#I only wanted to show some old zhanyi moments

I miss the times when zhanyi had moments like this:
I mean...tianshan is my favourite ship right now but years ago, I started reading 19 days because of zhanyi.
After re reading the comic for n'th times, I can see after jian yi's confession their development got slower and then story focused mostly on tianshan. But I feel like zhanyi's development has come to full stop right now :( they haven't got any emotional or significant moment for a long time, they're like background characters to tianshan's story.
I mean yeah, years go old xian made a good decision to focus and develop tianshan's relationship because zhanyi were light years ahead of them, and zhanyi were finally got to some points, jian yi confessed and zheng xi accepted jian yi's feeling for him and after that zheng xi seemed to develop some romantic feelings for jian yi but oh well. We never saw anything after that (also I'm not happy with the way old xian is going with zheng xi's character, it seems like he doesn't have any character out of jian yi anymore and he doesn't have any close relationship or significant interaction with he tian or mo like jian yi does,it's like his purpose of existence is only because of jian yi, I could go on but that's literally a different topic)
I know they are together in future, in Christmas chapters they seem to be living together, but their development has been so dry that I keep questioning myself how old xian is gonna make them a thing.
I can only hope for old xian to take a look at them and be like: oh yeah they're the main couple I need to start focusing on them too!
after tianshan officially became canon, I thought that old xian is gonna give zhanyi some major development to move their relationship from sided love to mutual feelings but it doesn't seem we're going back to zhanyi anytime soon. I believe zheng xi is in love with jian yi already"I'll go wherever you go" was his way of telling it, or jian yi's "no matter what happens, don't ever leave me". I wish we saw their reactions to these indirect love confessions.
#Sorry for the rant!!#I didn't supposed to write this much lol#I only wanted to show some old zhanyi moments#And feeling nostalgic#I get it why some zhanyi fans left the fandom long time ago#Some of them are still in but they don't interact much#It's sad but on some updates there's really nothing for them to scream about#The imbalance between couples is something that can get criticed about this comic#While I critic 19 days I still love it wholeheartedly#My love for 19 days hasn't decreased a bit after all these years#And I respect old xian's decisions#They can write their own story however they want#19 days#zhanyi#zhan zheng xi#jianyi

Zhanyi AND Tianshan? feels like a double ch., thanks for working hard, OX.
Not gonna lie, this feels like a bad omen to me. And it’s a little sad that we know more about his family than he does. Dude, you’re the heir to an not so reputable empire...
Some Zhanyi for our soul. I love the way Jian Yi looks at Xixi. And how Xixi expresses her feelings towards Jian Yi through her actions, for example: praying fervently. I'm not the only one who thinks that he's also praying for Jian Yi to never leave him, right?
He Tian was so shocked that Ox had to show us this twice. He completely understands what Mo is saying, the connection and significance the piercing has with She Li but... is it gratitude? Is he seeing him like another She Li? He Tian is having none of that, and he knows Mo needs some time to recover (and he needs sleep). What I like about Mo is that he’s already moving forward even just a little, he is like that and is one of the things He Tian likes about him: despite what happened to him, he isn’t afraid to the point of being immobilized.
1) HAHAHAH He just said bye! Not to just rest, he needs a moment to think. 2) My teacher self is both still worried about Mo's homework and loving that He Tian is thinking about Mo's future problems (and what he told Mrs Mo), but darling, you're absolutely deflecting here.
THE BLUSHING. He's blushing so much. My HEART. The little touch and acting out-of-character (he can be very pushy and Mo knows that). Mo’s love language is actions/acts of service.
This was so cute. The hand in Mo’s hair, the little tug of the shirt. The implied you don’thave to hurt yourself.
Okay, I'm gonna read too much into this (and rant): 1) I said it before, the She Li implications of the piercing. He Tian already tried to reclaim that memory with the studs, and Mo protecting them so much show us that he too wants to let everything She Li in the past (and that he really cares for He Tian. FINALLY! Tian’s feelings reached him). BUT:
2) He Tian's family (not just the Hes but Mr Jian too if they are really cousins with Yi) is from the mafia, they have to show loyalty, give proofs of belonging to the group, that they will follow the leader to the end. He Tian does not want that at all, he wants the opposite: true feelings. And true feelings is something his family doesn't show at all.
We know for a fact that He Cheng loves Tian and does what he can to protect him from their father and give him space, but he can't show it (I get emotional with Cheng, look at his death grip in the qiucheng illustration, that man has never done one thing he wants in his life, must live on headaches). He is a boss (not even the big boss! His father is before him and he works for Mr Jian directly, The Real Big Boss™).
The thing is: He Tian's love language is physical touch (what he needs to receive, gift giving seems his way of showing it), he doesn't get that from his family, he needs to know people will be there and he could do that by getting Mo to do things for him (as he has done before) or ask for a more concrete proof (wearing the studs), but now he is just wishing for feelings in return, or for Mo to accept he isn’t lying about them.
He understands Mo is not quite there yet (not unless he's under real pressure). But He Tian will show him that he'll have his back always.
Which bring us to the first panel: the perpetually looming presence of Jian Yi's dissapearance™ and He Tian's going away too, perhaps because of that. (Remember the ch. Yi was abducted by He Cheng -before his promotion as I call it because he wasn’t wearing suits- and Tian found them. So one, he saw Cheng and ran behind the car... or there is a reason why they go to the same school).

1)I was impressed from your answer to the other anon about zhan so I decided to ask a question about this topic. Zhan looks to me like a guy that will have a "normal" life like falling for a girl and starting a family with her. Do you think it was hard for him to leave this idea aside and fall for jian? At what moment he was like "i like him too it's mutual" I also wanted to ask about jian sexually because zhang was the only guy jian ever showed interest in and he rejected the idea of him being
Good evening, dear anon-san!
“I was impressed from your answer to the other anon about zhan”
You must be talking about this ask about the possibility of Zhan Zheng Xi being quoiromantic. It introduced a really interesting perspective and offered me a chance to learn something new and get some food for thought. Probably for you, too. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the answer, thank you!
“Do you think it was hard for him to leave this idea aside and fall for jian?”
I share your idea and the mental image of seeing ZZX as the one out of the four to most likely have a girlfriend, get married, and start a family. To have a “normal” life and future, for the lack of a better word. I always had that feeling mostly because his family seems to be the most ordinary. No absent parents, no connections to the underworld, no great tragedies or traumas. I don’t mean to sound like you would have to have something bad happen to you to “turn” you gay etc. More like he just always struck me as a character who would end up with an ordinary job and a wife and kids.
However, I’m not sure if ZZX was really seeing his future quite that way even prior to Jian Yi’s confession. I know ZZX is very mature for his age, but would a 15-year-old boy plan his future in such a serious way? I think, as any middle school boy, he found girls, crushes, and romance quite bothersome (ch. 51 and 102):
He just probably wanted to spend his days going to school, playing video games and basketball, reading his favorite comics, and hanging out with his best friend. Girls and romance were complicated and put him on a spot.
But I suppose you meant that more in the sense of going against the norm in general. I don’t know if ZZX had been planning/expecting/dreaming to have a normal life with a wife and kids but I do believe he very much identified as a heterosexual. And I most definitely believe finding out about JY’s feelings for him and later about his own feelings for JY must have become as a shock and required him to figure himself out again. He might not have been planning to have a wife and kids in so many words but to reach his resolve regarding JY’s confession he must have had to give his future a serious thought. And to realize he might have to give up those “normal” things was probably difficult despite the fact that his love for JY was gaining a new kind of tone.
But instead of thinking there’s some “normal” direction in life that he has to follow, I think ZZX puts more emphasis on making sure his romantic relationship is loving and caring. That comes across by the way he turned down Xiao Hui and how he acts around his younger sister (ch. 159 and 262):
When it comes to both platonic and romantic love, ZZX is serious-minded, loyal, in it for the long haul, protective, and caring. That’s the kind of brother, friend, and partner he wants to be and grow into. Of course, being in a same-sex relationship wasn’t most probably ZZX’s first idea for his future but “normal” wasn’t as important as being with someone who couldn’t be replaced. If he wasn’t thinking so far ahead already, he might have accepted XH’s confession. I mean, what teenage boy wouldn’t want to have a girlfriend even if they didn’t have the first clue about love?
So, in short, I don’t think falling in love with JY was so much about leaving the path of normal in ZZX’s mind as it was about finding what he wanted in a surprising and somewhat shocking direction.
“At what moment he was like "i like him too it's mutual"”
Personally, I see two turning points in how Zhanyi progressed: “do you like men?” and “do you like me?”. In my head, they divide their story and ZZX’s character development into three segments.
The time before JY kissed ZZX JY’s love had been unrequited for a long time, but he hadn’t been fully hiding his affections. He jokingly clung to ZZX and often sneaked physical contact and made mischevious, half-serious passes at him. It was a strange mix of joking around but being serious at the same time. And a lot of the pull of the story in the early days was based on the thrill that we as readers knew about JY’s feelings.
As far as we know, ZZX didn’t know about JY being in love with him but...I don’t think he was completely oblivious, either. I’m not talking about him just getting ragingly embarrassed whenever JY clung to him but rather him being aware of JY’s feelings in a more serious and specific way at least on some level. Two instances especially come to mind.
When ZZX took JY to mountain climbing on his birthday because - and I quote - there was “a place he had always wanted to bring JY to”. As typical as it is for teenage boys to say such things to each other, I’m even more interested in the little moment they had about making wishes to the stars (ch. 113):
According to ZZX, one has to keep the wish in their heart for it to come true, but JY wanted to try to guess ZZX’s wish through his palm. First of all, the chapter ends after that panel with ZZX asking “Did you guess it?”. The question was highlighted by appearing on a blank white background on its own which suggests it wasn’t ZZX just simply asking. Was his wish perhaps something along the lines of always being together with JY?
Another thing that always catches my imagination about that panel is that it also looks like JY is trying to teleport his own wishes over to ZZX. He wants to voice his wish (confession, feelings) but it’s scary for various reasons. So, he sneaks yet another moment of physical connection (and quite tender at that) with ZZX and perhaps has a little moment for himself imagining and dreaming what it would be like.
The first sign that ZZX might be aware of JY’s feelings is immediately followed by another in the next chapter when they’re on their way back home. Before they part ways JY calls for ZZX and begins to say something to him (ch. 114):
To us, of course, it was clear he wanted to say something. Perhaps something along the lines of “what would you say/how would you feel if I told you I like you?”. Whatever he wanted to say he came close to saying it but changed his mind. But did ZZX also catch something? Because his reply was somewhat interesting:
I don’t think he meant it as merely “I’ll wait for you at the station tomorrow”. I’m sure he didn’t know what was bugging JY exactly but it was something and clearly meant a lot to him. And he wanted JY to able to confide in him because as far as ZZX was concerned, they were the kinds of friends who wouldn’t have to keep secrets from each other. But he didn’t want to pressure JY either. “Whatever it is, I’ll wait for you until you’re ready.”
Could all of that hint that he had a feeling, an inkling, something, about what might have been on JY’s mind?
“Do you like men?” and JY’s sexualityThese two themes intertwine, so I’m going to give you my two cents about JY’s possible orientation at the same time. Let’s start with JY. You didn’t make any direct suggestions but mentioned him only being attracted to ZZX but also rejecting the idea of liking men in general (ch. 142):
Personally, I interpret JY as a budding homosexual despite what he said to ZZX. I don’t see his words so much as a rejection of the idea as ZZX just asking him the wrong questions. The kiss wasn’t about JY liking guys (and coming out to ZZX) but him liking ZZX.
We haven’t seen JY being attracted to guys in general, but I think he’s very much still figuring out his sexuality despite his feelings for ZZX. Even if he had been in love with ZZX forever he was still scared and unsure. It seems that his feelings for ZZX and ZZX later returning them have both confused JY and taught him new things about himself (ch. 143 and 187):
Then again, there have been a couple of times when being attracted to guys in general has been brought up regarding JY’s character (ch. 108 and 122):
But I would read these moments as JY being a typical teenage boy. As a 15-year-old boy having a secret crush for your best friend, you wouldn’t probably be open about what or who you like. Especially, to another guy. I’m sure he’s more than aware of the risk that kind of confession would mean. Not only confessing his feelings for ZZX could go horribly wrong but people knowing about him could (and probably would) attract discrimination. Some time ago I answered another ask about homophobia in 19 Days if you want to read more about this topic, but overall I think JY denied He Tian’s playful suggestions because they’re teenagers and boys.
Overall, I think Zhanyi is very much a coming-of-age story and deals with identity-related themes. That entails a lot of vagueness, confusion, reflection, and hazy, ever-developing feelings. I don’t think it would be impossible for JY to identify as a homosexual after the turmoil of his teenage years.
But let’s get back to ZZX and what that moment in the rain meant for him. The kiss flipped their relationship upside-down in ZZX’s head. It wasn’t the usual case of JY just being an idiot and messing around; he couldn’t just get embarrassed-mad at JY or otherwise brush it off. He was shocked and confused but above all, he saw his lifelong best friend crying and being so scared ZZX would abandon him in disgust.
ZZX realized that despite all the years they had been best friends there had been this huge part in JY he hadn’t known about. In my mind, the first initial revelation marks the second segment in their story. Suddenly, ZZX was in a situation in which he had to figure out and build their relationship from the start in his head. He saw his childhood friend in a completely new and strange light (ch. 151):
There’s always been one thing I’m a bit confused about when it comes to the time after the kiss but before JY’s final confession. ZZX asked JY multiple times about what he was really thinking and feeling (ch. 147, 150, 152, and 153):
Did he just want JY to be honest with him? Open up and trust him? Or was distressed by the idea of not knowing about and understanding something this fundamental about his best friend? Did JY hiding things make ZZX uneasy because it proved their connection wasn’t 100% and he didn’t really know JY after all? I’ve always struggled to understand what the questions were all about. But I suppose it fits ZZX’s character that prefers to be straightforward and not have secrets that could lead to misunderstandings. From his point of view, I guess the situation was also a bit unfair. He saw clearly that JY was suffering because of him but he didn’t let ZZX help either by allowing them both to be on the same page.
ZZX was trying to be considerate and supportive but he wasn’t ready to jump fully on board with JY’s feelings. Especially, since he felt like he didn’t have all the answers yet. However, him being understanding but hesitant seemed to cause JY more pain, and it was a bit of an emotional limbo for both of them.
“Do you like me?” and ZZX’s resolveZZX came the closest to losing JY for good when he was kidnapped the second time. And this time around he had been even more helpless than when He Cheng had come for JY. I think all of that helped ZZX in reaching a resolve regarding his feelings for JY. Somewhere along the way, JY had become someone who couldn’t be replaced in more ways than just friends. And the thought of not having JY in his life both scared him but also made him realize the romantic feelings were mutual. Perhaps they had always been there - lying dormant or mixed in with his more platonic feelings.
I see this resolve being a noticeable change in ZZX’s character. He matured, adapted this new level of responsibility and seriousness of returning JY’s feelings and wanting to protect him. Overall, he was on a much firmer footing again - or, as JY put it, he leveled up. By making up his own mind and acting more confident he could now ask JY to give him his answers, too (ch. 206 and 207 and 209):
For ZZX, the feelings were already mutual when JY officially confessed. His answer wasn’t “me, too” but “I know”. When ZZX kissed JY’s forehead I saw them becoming canon. ZZX still needs time to get used to it all but he did accept and return JY’s feelings and made a promise of sorts that JY did have a future with him. And this marks the third segment of their story. Now they can start figuring out this new aspect of their relationship.
Phew.
This was the first more comprehensive question and answer I’ve done about Zhanyi. It was nice and refreshing to talk about them for a change! So, thank you very much for giving me this chance. I never thought I’d have to this much to say about them. I hope I managed to answer your question to your satisfaction!
PS: Also, thank you for your concern and consideration. It warmed my heart, and I appreciate it!

My thoughts for Zhanyi development.
I have read a lot of theories and very interesting posts about when or how our lovely ships will finally get together and all the things that Will come with it.
Zhanyi and the future we all know
So, I'm going to start with zhanyi because of the recent complaining about why this Ship is receiving so little attention recently in the Manhua. And it's true that these two have been acting off screen, but I think that Old Xian is making it on purpose because Zhanyi has already reach the first steps of how this childhood friendship becomes a love story before Jiang Yí's kipnapping.
One of the reasons I have for saying so is that at the beginning of the manhua when xixi is telling the history of how his friendship with Jiang Yí was and how he suddenly disappear, he still call him a 'friend' or a 'close friend' at the time they enrolled high school.
However, characters' development has been huge and nowadays, their attitudes are way far from what they used to be (including he tian and mo), the author is seemed to have taken another path from what she started writing and it's great! The gags are still there but now we can see more complex characters with different and more realistic attitudes to each situation they face. Therefore I think that when the manhua reachs the part when they enroll high school, we will see a different xixi that maybe won't be in love with Jiang Yí in the same way he is with him, but more as a really close friend that is becoming something deeper but that his actual ming can't really understand or accept even though he thinks he has.
So, they will finally reach that last step after their meeting 3-4 years in the future as we saw in the specials.
Actually is really interesting when we compare then with the ones we had in the first chapters in which Zhan is seemed to be angry, even confused and sad of seeing his friend after so many years of knowing nothing about him, so the only way he knows to face it is acting in a more defensive way as he used to be in the past. He doesn't want to get himself exposed, he doesn't want Jiang to know how much he got affected since he got away. However Zhan has shown to be a very kind person who is able to forgive, and he ends up being the Zhan we all know again as we saw in the christmas and Valentine specials.
Most of the romantic development will be seem after the time skip
For both Zhanyi and Tianshan, time will be the obstacle which will define their future. Our boys have grown a lot since the beginning but what they feel and think about each other isn't still very clear at all, specially for mo guan shan (although I would like to make another post about it). This is really interesting to me because, as a 15 years old myself when I started reading one year ago I have always liked to compare their daily problems with mines and what I see around, and I have to say that Old Xian has made a great job writing her characters. But one thing I disagree with the fandom is that as children they are not really sure about what they 'like'. I'm not saying that we are sure about everything in our lives but I think that at this age 'that kind of likes' have at least started developing for some time. I'm not really into Lgbt themes so I don't know if it is different for them, but from mine point of view they are actually more in a rejecting phase than 'what is that? Phase'. I think that they all are very awkward about it in a deep place in their minds but they are afraid of how to face it, specially mo and xixi. So I think that the time for they to think deeper about that will be high school. A time when they won't see each other so they will be able to realise how much their bonds matter to them and how much they could lose.
However, I guess that zhanyi will be very different from Tianshan, these are my headcannons:
Zhan will still be insecure about his relationship with Jiang Yí although he won't show it, specially not knowing when he would disappear again.
They will first try to recover their friendship, but Jiang will still push to bother zhan
They will have a bonding moment in which zhang will talk openly about how he has felt all those years and then express his feelings to Jiang in a more clear way
They will still live together although they aren't thinking to engage soon
Zhan will still keep their relationship as a secret for everyone but his sister that may be the one who will help him to feel more confortable with it
Zhan's sister will still be a little jealous of Jiang Yí and will make jokes about how he is still in high school, but at the same time, she will be happy to see him again.
Zhan and Jiang will still be bothered around Tianshan moments and make jokes about them to bother mo.
This is my first post and sheet, I hope you enjoy reading it. :)

who told zzx about the mountain he took jy on his birthday? what if that was his father, and that's a place he proposed his mom?😆😆😆
as far as the audience knows, no one told zhan zheng xi about the mountain he took jian yi to on his birthday, and there is nothing within the story to suggest or imply he was told about this place from anyone. when he calls someone, presumably to be one of his parents, he says ‘I have something to do today so I’ll be home a little late’ and I think if he had been told by either one of them and old xian wanted to imply it, he would have spoken it a bit differently like ‘I’m taking jian yi to that place we talked about so I’ll be home a little late’ but he doesn’t.
considering how extremely hidden and tucked away this particular mountain is, I don’t think its a place other people know about — which I think is old xian’s intention; it’s supposed to be a special place for zhanyi. not to quote the song ‘somewhere only we know’ by keane but that song title seems very fitting for them when it concerns this mountain top.
they were being driven to a place so far off, it took multiple stops and it basically had no other people around (even on normal ground level) when they arrived.
as they start to walk up towards the mountain, jian yi even mentions ‘there isn’t even a path anymore’ which suggests that they moved far off from the original trail marked for people hiking and veered off into their own made up path. at this point, they’re no longer on the stairs/trail and they’re basically walking through leaves, dirt, trees, and have to move branches out of their way to keep going ~again this isn’t some sort of open area that’s easily accessible, which shows how extra difficult it is to find.
zhan zheng xi has clearly been there before though as he remembered exactly where the spot was with no map or gps, etc; how he discovered it is unknown, but the most logical theory to me would be that he might’ve gone hiking with his family in that area at some point in his life (although I think they probably stopped at a different, more open and widely known area by people walking through - they probably followed the actual pathway back then) he veered off to do his own thing separate from them and found it by accident. the whole hard to find, tucked away, and secrecy aspects of it all leads me to believe that this spot on the mountain was only known by him (and now jian yi).
“this is.. a place I’ve always wanted to bring you to” this part doesn’t have much to do with your question but I just have to talk about this line. he is genuinely so thoughtful and sweet. zhan zheng xi literally stood at the top of this hidden mountain one day and thought ‘I would like to take jian yi here one day and show it to him’ as he gazed upon the magnificent scenery. such a secluded place and all he thought about was jian yi and bringing him there to share the beautiful sight with him. he just knew jian yi would enjoy it and he even packed sparklers in his backpack for them to use once they got there; he literally had a whole plan laid out for jian yi’s special day and in the end jian yi was moved to tears because he was overwhelmed with happiness. the entire mountain top scene was one of the top most romantic moments in the comic imo. the use of the word ‘always’ also has me spiraling into my feels because it shows that he had been thinking about doing this for a very long time and it was something special and important to him. the ellipses shows zhan zheng xi’s hesitance, almost as if he was slightly embarrassed to admit this slight confession.
but it ends up demonstrating to jian yi, who had been dreading the thought of a long walk before, how serious zhan zheng xi was and how much thought he put into this. as you can see below, his entire attitude changes once zhan zheng xi says this. he seems taken aback by the confession at first but then when he fully registers it all, he starts grinning and becomes more than compliant to take this long walk.
so I don’t believe anyone ever did tell zhan zheng xi about this place. however, if someone did, it would be really sweet and make the most sense for him to have heard about it from his parents considering how secretive this place already is. especially since then it would also have a double romantic meaning to it (as the scene is already pretty romantic), considering it used to be a special place to people who are also special to him, and he wouldn’t bring just anyone to a spot so important to him — a spot that in your theory would have been used by his parents in a romantic sense (the proposal).
I really hope old xian brings this place back up again at some point, even if its when they’re older in the future. I’d love to see zhanyi revisit their special mountain top another time. imagine them going there for alone time. (´♡‿♡`)

(1/5) am i the only one that think tianshan won’t be going to be he cheng’s house? like old xian gave no hints or implication whatsoever that they were heading there like zhanyi were. I know some ppl were saying it’s bc xi has their backpacks but 1.) they don’t actually even know xi followed jian yi there 2.) tianshan left their bags at school like they clearly don’t care enough about their bags to go and get them so immediately 😂. like if they were that obsessed with their bags, they would’ve
(2/5)taken it with them in the first place. it’s not like they’re goody goody students either I mean they were skipping lol. I could see xi bringing it back to them later on in the day or even the next day at school. 3.) I feel like if ox wanted to have tianshan over there she would’ve done some sort of direct thing like with zhanyi (zhan saying he’s going with and qiu saying fine) not some sort of thing where fans have to try and connect some far away dots to get them there. 4.) he tian still doesn’t quite get along with he cheng and tends to avoid him unless he wants something from him (like using his men or asking him for custom earrings) so I don’t see him comfortably going over there just for bags 5.) I see it more likely that he cheng will see their bags that zhan brought, xi will tell him it belongs to his brother, and he cheng will probably head over to where he tian is with mo finding his bro as he does so easily as per usual, bring both bags and (also maybe) bring the earrings then. so I kinda find it a bit of a rush in assumption for people to just assume it’s gonna be all four there simply bc they want it to happen?? (and I’m not saying I don’t want it to happen btw, it would be nice lol, I just don’t see anywhere where it’s SERIOUSLY suggested and I feel like I see most ppl talking about it as if it’s for sure they’re gonna show up and i’m like ‘???’ lmao) and I’m not saying it couldn’t happen either, it is possible but I guess I just don’t think it’s VERY likely as in 90% to happen like others suspect it to (or want it to) bc nothing explicit was confirmed. maybe it’s just me tho.. bc I don’t wanna get my hopes up for nothing *hides in cave* ty for reading my long ass message lol
Wait...I know you...There’s no mistake. /Skyrim guard
For starters, I don’t think there’s EVER 100% certainty something happens in this manhua. C’mon, it’s OX we’re talking about, they always find a way to surprise readers, besides thinking about these kinds of scenarios is always fun 😂. Personally, I do find it possible, that boys just might eventually meet together alongside with Qiu.
It’s not just about the bags to me. If we go back a few chapters, the first thing OX shows us that day is Jian Yi complaining to He Tian, i.e. formally informing him that he’s now living with his brother and asking him to watch his back.
He Tian appeared to be low-key concerned because when Momo asked him about the contents of his talk with JY, He Tian quickly changed the subject. It just might be the first hint that He Tian could end up going there (for JY’s sake at that) -- however, he’s gushing over Momo’s concession so much now that I’m unsure if he remembers 😂. Still, in earlier chapters, He Tian was quite bothered with He Cheng showing such a keen interest in his schoolmate.
As for the bags & skipped class -- it’s just an impression that I got, really -- He Tian arranged for them to, perhaps, meet sometime in the evening and return the bags (apparently for a monetary reward too). Now obviously if neither JY nor XiXi show up (due to being held up by brother Qiu), HT might give either a call and Jian Yi could literally complain again, which might spur HT to pay his bro a visit. Of course, it’s nothing 100% certain but it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility either.
Now whether HC shows up or not, that’s an entirely different question, lol. Cause the infamous panel of him drinking and his watch showing an odd time might just hint that he’s not in China at the moment, and it could be that boys will be left in the care of brother Qiu only (poor sod 😂). Or maybe that panel means nothing and it was drawn randomly, lol.
So is there an ostensible reason for HT to head there? I suppose there is -- he knows his brother has some plans for JY, he is informed that JY somehow ended up living at He Cheng’s. School bags might be playing a secondary role here. And again, also an impression of mine, He Tian has become more relaxed about HC with Momo at his side -- it’s almost like having Momo nearby grants him courage. He doesn’t seem to be as averse to talking to HC as he used to, so maybe he’ll be willing to face HC directly now.
Certainly, as with everything else, it’s pure guesswork. Just as many others here, I do want it to happen a little too much, mainly because I wanna have some light shed on the mob business, and I believe that only He Tian could elicit some coherent answers regarding JY situation from either Qiu or HC. I’d be delighted if it happened, but there are also some other fascinating ideas out there.
For instance, there’s another scenario that keeps playing in my head, and that is He Tian and Momo running into She Li and his grunts while they are having their blast after school. That would be also quite fun to behold. Maybe even more fun than all of them gathering at Cheng’s.

I don't know if you felt the same, but the last chapter gave me the impression that old wants tianshan to progress a bit slower then it was progressing. Like, on chap 199 He Tian and Guan Shan seems to be very comfortable with each other and chap 200 has this awkward atmosphere... And the way He Tian acts in the last chapter leaved me a bit disappointed, it seemed like they gone one step forward and then one step back.
i have a lot of mixed feelings about this chapter tbh, on one hand im really happy that chapter 199 wasn’t just an interlude and that old xian decided to continue it, and the thought of he tian buying an earring for guan shan and going to his house just to give it to him is frankly adorable to me (i bet he even reharsed how to do it, that nerd), but on the other the way old xian decided to portray it did leave me a bit disappointed, and i can’t say that i wasn’t expecting a bit more from he tian after everything that happened
(putting the rest under a cut because it got quite long;;;;;) [so strange, that never happens to me……..]
i personally didn’t perceive the weird atmosphere you felt in this chapter, the previous one was definitely lighter, but i think that even in their most gentle moments he tian and guan shan always have an underlying tension between them, which is not necessarily a bad thing!! but in these early stages of their relationship it can kind of escalate and get out of control for better or for worse, especially in a more serious situation
i did feel like we had a minor step back in their relationship in this chapter, tho, and to me it’s mostly because of he tian’s actions. i saw some people on my dash that guan shan felt off as well for them because three chapter ago he was walking comfortably beside he tian, but the way guan shan acted make sense to me, and we can’t forget that he tian showed up at guan shan’s house uninvited, so the situation is a bit different (last time something like that happened it was she li in he tian’s place, and look how well that turned out)
don’t get me wrong, i CAN understand why he tian acted like that, we have been proved time and time again that that is his own misguided way to show that he cares about and that he’s interested in guan shan (and i also have the impression that he is kinda terrified of a final outright rejection, but that’s just a personal theory of mine), but still, at this point i do feel like he should know better when it comes to guan shan
so yeah, this did feel like a step back to me, but it’s also one that im willing to forgive for now, because their relationship has always been constantly, albeit slowly, progressing and moving forward. what happened in this last chapter is the first time i felt like they went through a regression (unlike with jian yi and zheng xi, where we’ve been having them making two steps forward and three steps back in quite a while by now), so i can overlook it if it turns out to be a one time thing only, or if it gets properly called out and dealt with in the upcoming chapters
i don’t know if old xian did this on purpose because tianshan was moving too fast tbh, i have to admit that would feel kinda weird to me, because i think they still have a long way to go before getting together, and they also don’t have a future already set for them like jian yi and zheng xi, so old xian can do whatever they want with them. it might be that old xian doesn’t want tianshan to happen before zhanyi does, which………could work if it’s done right, but it could also ruin them. my biggest fear is that, whatever the reason may be, old xian will keep them stuck in the same place and make them run in circle over and over again like it happened with zhanyi: im already frustrated enough at their lack of progression, i don’t want this to happen with tianshan as well
the only thing we can do is trust old xian, tho, so let’s just keep our fingers crossed and hope that we’ll keep going to have the same wonderful progression we had up until now!!
#harukaaiko#19 days#tianshan#ask#im so sorry for how long this is#i hope it at least makes sense!!#also!! i did get your other message and im really sorry for not replying to it yet!!#this past week was pretty tough for me#but in the mean time thank you so much!!!#i hope you're going to have a wonderful day!!

A is for Assassin (Part 4)
Thanks again for all of the amazing feedback <3
So just a forewarning: Jian Yi’s personality will be different in this than in 19 Days, as will his relationship with Zhan Zheng Xi due to the fact that they’re not in high school
I hope to delve more into Jian Yi and Zhan Zheng Xi’s characters and relationship in the next one <3
For now, enjoy!
Assassin’s AU
Pairings: Zhanyi / TianShan
(Part 1) (Part 2) (Part 3)
Jian Yi plopped down on the bed with an exaggerated sigh. He stretched his arms above his head with a yawn, his shirt hiking up to show a glance of milky white skin.
Zhan Zheng Xi ignores him, crossing the hotel room to the small desk and dropping the bag into the chair.
Jian Yi watches him, raising himself on an elbow as Zhan set up his computer and equipment.
“Don’t you ever relax?” he called, “We just got here.”
“We have a lot of work to do,” Zhan stated.
Jian Yi pouted.
“But we can take a second to relax.”
Jian Yi rose and threw his arms over Zhan Zheng Xi’s shoulders from behind him. The latter stiffened, but remained still as Jian Yi’s chin fell on his shoulder.
“Zheng Xi,” Jian Yi whined, his lips brushing Zhan’s ear.
Face hot, Zhan tilted his head away.
“What?” he bit out.
Jian Yi grinned.
“Let’s go skinny dipping in the pool,” he murmured.
Zhan Zheng Xi elbowed Jian Yi who yanked away with a short laugh and a bark of protest.
“Stop it.”
“Stop what?” Jian Yi asked innocently, “I just want to go for a swim.”
Zhan Zheng Xi sent him a glare, his cheeks red, and Jian Yi beamed his own flushed a light pink.
Before either could say more, the door burst open and a flurry of red hair and burning eyes charged in.
“You’re fucking kidding me!”
Both assassins jumped, and a fiery Mo Guan Shan glared at both of them. Behind him, a bemused He Tian leaned against the doorframe.
“You guys are assholes,” Mo Guan Shan barked.
“Keep it down, there are people in the other rooms—“ Zhan started, but Jian Yi cut in.
“What? Why?”
Mo Guan Shan jabbed a finger towards He Tian.
“I’m not rooming with him!”
Zhan Zheng Xi glanced at He Tian, who returned it with a small smirk and a shrug.
“But me and Zhan Zheng Xi always room together,” Jian Yi protested.
“Don’t act like it’s all the time,” Zhan said, turning away.
The others ignored him.
“I’m not sleeping with He Tian,” Mo Guan Shan blurted out.
Jian Yi blinked.
“No one asked that…”
Mo Guan Shan’s face burst into flames.
“You know what I meant!”
“Jian Yi will room with you,” Zhan said without looking at either, beginning once again to set up, “He Tian can room with me.”
He Tian disappeared and Mo Guan Shan’s shoulders visibly relaxed. The only one who had a problem was Jian Yi, whose face fell.
“But Xixi—“
“Stop calling me that.”
“—please—“
“Shut up.”
After about twenty minutes of whining and sharp retorts, Jian Yi finally gave in and grabbed his stuff, disappearing. Mo Guan Shan didn’t thank Zhan, but Zhan didn’t expect him to. Still, he could see how grateful Mo Guan Shan was as he left, not even sparing a glance to He Tian when they passed each other on He Tian’s way back with his luggage.
That night was cool and calm. Still at the brink of summer, the sky was light and the sunset had a smattering of yellows and oranges and blues.
After setting up all his gear and making sure everything functioned, Zhan stepped out onto the patio to find He Tian already leaning on the railing, a trail of smoke twirling up from the cigarette between his fingers.
Their room overlooked the busy town, which was slowly down as the night drew closer. If He Tian heard him step out, he didn’t say anything.
Zhan contemplated leaving the man to himself before stepping up to the railing, too, and taking a deep breath of fresh air.
He Tian glanced at him and smiled that odd, hollow smile he always had.
Zhan could never really understand it. He Tian was a mystery to him, but he was honestly a mystery that Zhan thought best left unsolved.
“Nice weather,” He Tian commented, “Good for us. This first hit should go off smoothly.”
Zhan Zheng Xi shrugged.
“We need to be prepared for anything,” he pointed out.
He Tian hummed and took another drag, his dark eyes fixing on some point far off that was invisible to Zhan Zheng Xi.
They knew a bit about each other, which came from working together—they’d naturally had a few conversations, but over the course of their (timid) friendship, neither got the complete story from the other. He Tian wasn’t like Jian Yi—he didn’t bother Zhan Zheng Xi until he finally spoke, or revealed anything voluntarily about himself in the hopes that Zhan would do the same. There was an understanding between them that He Tian wasn’t going to volunteer any information about himself to Zhan Zheng Xi, and Zhan Zheng Xi wouldn’t, either.
“So you worked with Mo Guan Shan before?” Zhan said after a few minutes of peaceful silence, “Is he trustworthy?”
He Tian nodded.
“Yeah. He’s good at what he does. He has a bad attitude, but he’ll do what needs to get done. He needs the money.”
“Good.”
He glanced at He Tian.
“Does he not like you?” Zhan asked hesitantly.
He Tian sighed, his shoulders sagging in a way Zhan Zheng Xi hadn’t seen before.
“Nah,” He Tian said, “I did something stupid. He’ll get over it, I guess. We work fine together, though.”
Zhan Zheng Xi hummed, letting the subject drop. He Tian looked at him, his lips turning up in a crooked smirk.
“I’m just waiting for you and Jian Yi to fuck already. Sorry I had to mess up the opportunity.”
Zhan Zheng Xi’s face burned and he threw up a middle finger at He Tian and laughed. The latter dropped his cigarette and snuffed out the end with the toe of his shoe, tossing a small wave to Zhan Zheng Xi.
“I’m heading in. Night.”
“Night.”
The glass door slid closed, and Zhan leaned on the railing with his elbows, gazing over the city. His mind swirled as the cool air brushed against his warm cheeks, and he forced it to calm the stupid throbbing in his chest.
The room was dark and peaceful, and Guan Shan’s body slowly relaxed, his muscles unwinding. He could almost feel the cold press of metal from his knife below the thin hotel pillow, and he closed his eyes.
“Mountain.”
His brow furrowed.
“My name’s not mountain.”
A pause.
“Mo Guan Shan.”
“What.”
“…Is your red hair dyed?”
Mo Guan Shan lifted a hand from beneath the covers and pinched the bridge of his nose.
“No. Now shut up. I’m trying to sleep.”
“Oh. Sorry.”
There are another, longer pause, and Mo began to relax again when—
“But was your father a redhead? Or your mom? Or both? Do you have siblings? Are they redheads?”
Mo Guan Shan growled and grabbed the thing nearest to him—a water bottle from the side table—and tossed it in the direction of the other bed. By the thunk and whine that followed, Mo guessed that he’d hit his mark.
“I’m trying to sleep. And it’s none of your damn business.”
“Okay, okay, sorry. Goodnight.”
Mo Guan Shan didn’t answer, but forced his eyes closed.
A second later—
“Mo Guan Shan?”
With a flurry Mo Guan Shan ripped the covers off, grabbed his phone, and stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind him.
The morning found all four assassins gathered in Zhan’s room around his computer, ready to get down to business. Zhan was calm and collected as always as he pulled up the necessary files, and He Tian absentmindedly picked apart his glock to clean, and Jian Yi bounced at Zhan Zheng Xi’s side, munching on a plate of scrambled eggs Zhan Zheng Xi had brought up for him.
The only one seeming to actively dislike being there was Mo Guan Shan, who had dark bags under his eyes and scowled at anyone who looked at him. He stood next to the desk, the furthest from He Tian and Jian Yi as he could be without placing himself entirely away from the conversation.
“Here it is,” Zhan Zheng Xi announced, drawing the others’ attention. On the computer were the files of two men, both wearing suits. One was a tall, lean blonde with a small mustache and high cheekbones. The other was a thicker, barrel-chested man with short black hair and clean-shaven face.
“Giori Morretti from Italy,” Zhan stated, pointing to the blonde before moving to the dark haired man, “and Bruno Morretti. They’re cousins, but apparently they’re like brothers. They run a drug smuggling business together, but lately they’d been stepping on a lot of toes, trying to claim territory that isn’t theirs. We need to take them out quickly and quietly—but it can’t look like an accident. It’s supposed to send a message, so all weapons are fine to use.”
He Tian slowly began piecing his glock back together, eying the screen, while Jian Yi chewed on an egg thoughtfully.
“Where at?” he asked, “Can I get ‘em?”
Zhan shook his head.
“Maybe Bruno. He’s seen walking around with only one or two bodyguards a lot. He apparently doesn’t worry too much about safety. But Giori is more careful. His weakness is apparently the clubs downtown. He’s the partier of the two. He likes strip clubs and drugs, apparently.”
He Tian raised his chin.
“I can take out Giori,” he said.
Zhan Zheng Xi met his eyes. An understanding passed between them.
“Are you sure?”
He Tian nodded.
“Okay, then,” Zhan said, turning back to his laptop. Mo Guan Shan’s brow furrowed as he glanced between the two, and when he looked up, Jian Yi looked just as confused as he was.
“I think Mo should go with you, though,” Zhan added on.
He Tian’s eyes narrowed, and for a moment, Mo Guan Shan thought he was going to protest. But then he sighed and nodded.
“Alright, fine.”
“Why two of us?” Mo Guan Shan asked.
“Safety in numbers,” He Tian joked before Zhan Zheng Xi could answer.
Mo Guan Shan frowned at him. He Tian raised an eyebrow, his eyes fixing on Guan Shan’s. Finally, Mo Guan Shan had to turn away.
“Bruno’s spot is here,” Zhan Zheng Xi went on, “It’s a few blocks from downtown in an old abandoned warehouse—as expected. Jian Yi, you should be able to take him out from this building across the street. It’s an old theatre and it has a balcony, but you’ll have to be quick, because they’ll swarm on you the moment the shot goes off.”
Jian Yi nodded excitedly.
“I’ve got it.”
“He Tian,” Zhan Zheng Xi went on, “I’ll give you a list of the clubs Giori frequents. We’ll have to track him the next few days and see if we can anticipate where he goes.”
“Got it.”
A few hours later they broke for lunch. Zhan Zheng Xi stayed in his room to work while Jian Yi brought them both food from downstairs and He Tian left. After a split second, Mo Guan Shan followed him.
“Why am I going with you?” he asked.
He Tian glanced over his shoulder.
“We shouldn’t discuss that in public.”
Mo Guan Shan grabbed He Tian’s arm, causing the taller one to look at him in surprise.
“Then let’s talk in private,” Mo Guan Shan snapped, waving the key card to his room. He Tian reluctantly nodded, and followed the redhead back to the hotel room.
As soon as the door closed, Mo Guan Shan whipped towards He Tian.
“What the fuck is going on?” he asked, “Do they not trust me or something? It doesn’t take two of us to take down one guy.”
He Tian turned his face away.
“It’s not you,” he stated.
“Then what is it?” Mo Guan Shan demanded, “I’m not here for you to babysit me, or me to babysit you. I’m here to do a damn job. If they don’t need me—“
“We do need you,” He Tian interrupted.
Something in his tone made Mo Guan Shan pause, and he watched in mild surprise and much curiosity as He Tian ran his fingers through his hair.
“Zhan Zheng Xi knows this, ‘cause he did a background check on me when we worked together for the first time,” He Tian began slowly, “but… my past isn’t what you’d call clean.” His lips quirked into a mirthless smile. “I had a small… interest in drugs.”
Mo Guan Shan’s eyebrows shot up.
“You were a druggie?”
He Tian’s eyes darkened, but he didn’t reprimand Mo Guan Shan. Instead, he forced a shrug.
“It was a long time ago,” He Tian said, “Zhan Zheng Xi just wants to make sure I can be trusted going back to a place like that. I don’t blame him.”
So it was a babysitting job, Mo Guan Shan thought. Luckily, he was smart enough to keep that revelation to himself.
“Can you be?” Mo Guan Shan asked.
He Tian met his eyes.
“Yes.”
Guan Shan forced himself to stare back. Those hard gray eyes didn’t waver. He Tian’s dropped from his to a lower part of his face, and Guan Shan’s ears burned as he remembered the tingle in his lips that had lasted an entire night after their last mission together. He shook his head and pushed past He Tian.
“Fine. Whatever. I’m hungry, so…”
A hand caught his elbow and Mo Guan Shan froze. He didn’t turn around, but he could feel those sharp eyes burying into him.
“Mo Guan Shan.”
That voice forming his name sent a small tremor down his spine which he tried hopelessly to suppress.
“…Let go of me.”
The fingers loosened, but didn’t let go.
“I want to talk about that night.”
Mo Guan Shan gritted his teeth.
“I don’t. Just forget about it.”
“…What if I don’t want to forget about it?”
Mo Guan Shan’s heart pounded in his chest. He yanked his arm free, his fingers curling into fists.
“Then do it anyway.”
He left, practically sprinting down the hall, leaving He Tian standing in the bedroom by himself to watch him go.

Sorry in advance about my bad english. (1/2)I have this theory about he tian. in the past he tian was that kind of person which when he's interested in someone it's only for a short time until he gets bored and moves on to the next.(not talking about sex, just his typical behavior and flirting). For example: when we first introduced to he tian(ch60) he has his arm around this guy but then we don't see him again because he got bored of him. Then he's relationship with jian yi, don't know if he-
Good morning, dear anon-san!
“Sorry in advance about my bad english”
Don’t worry, your English is very good and perfectly understandable. It’s not my first language either, so I more than know the struggle. It takes courage to publically use a language you’re not 100% confident with, so pat yourself on the back today! (^_^)/
In my mind, your theory can be answered or summed up in one general question: What could be He Tian’s objective to get close to his classmates (including both Jian Yi and Mo Guan Shan)? I feel like pondering that question might help shape your theory. But first, let me address a specific chapter you mentioned.
“when we first introduced to he tian(ch60) he has his arm around this guy but then we don't see him again because he got bored of him“
Your memory was a bit off about who had his arm around whom but this must be the panel you’re talking about (ch. 60):
To be honest, I would be hesitant to think the HT we saw in ch. 60 and 61 is the same HT we know these days. To me, he looks like a fairly random black-haired classmate setting up a situation for a Zhanyi moment. I’m not saying he’s not HT but rather that it’s unclear to us was OldXian planning on making an actual character out of him at that point yet. Let’s remember that it took about 40 chapters for HT to appear in the comic again after that (ch. 102). So, I wouldn’t read too much into the two passer-by characters or make conclusions about HT “in the past”. To me, they look more like two random classmates.
Secondly, HT doesn’t feel like HT in his supposed first chapter. I’m having a hard time imagining the actual HT letting someone put their arm around his neck like that. We know he’s putting on a mask at school but playing the more submissive one feels quite out of character. Let’s remember we’re talking about 15-year-old boys who often assert themselves physically. That kind of hold shows who’s currently leading and who’s following - or rather, who’s allowed himself to be led.
All of that being said, though, your theory kind of intrigued my inner headcanon machine. The nameless guy seems to be somewhat physical in general which I find interesting (ch. 61):
My mind is coming up with questions and ideas about what kind of person he is. He gives off a carefree and somewhat dominant vibe. Like, imagine HT is walking out the school doors and Nameless Guy spots him in the crowd, catches up to him, and casually throws his arm over HT’s shoulders, maybe even pulls him a bit closer. Asking “Yo, what’s up? You wanna shoot some hoops?”. He maybe has lively eyes and easily initiates conversation.
Overall, though, I think we can exclude this HT and the guy hanging around with him. That moment was the very early days of the comic, and I doubt it’s not that tied to the HT introduced in the later chapters.
“when he's interested in someone it's only for a short time until he gets bored and moves on to the next”
Before I get to HT’s early relationships with JY and MGS more, let me address your idea in a broader sense. Generally speaking, I don’t think HT was switching his interest out of boredom. I don’t even see him switching. He wasn’t looking for BFFs but his objective wasn’t to aimlessly wander from one friend to another, either.
Rather, HT’s relationships with his classmates have always been about distance. For most of his classmates, he’s living a double life. He appears the carefree, outgoing cool guy when actually there’s a whole other side to him as well. That distance and solitary are very paramount and self-initiated by HT. It’s a part of the savior/hero role he has taken on in order to distance himself from the legacy of his family. He’s far from being the same kind of carefree teenager as his peers at school and yet plays one, probably even craves to be one for real.
It’s also important to remember HT is on a mission, and his objectives to befriend people are somewhat selfish. He wants to become someone better by doing good deeds and becoming a savior of sorts. When JY bumped into MGS, HT seemed to almost itch to use his strength for good and eagerly stepped in to effectively take control of the situation (ch. 116):
Instead of moving on because of boredom, I would rather say he’s roaming, searching for people who would need someone standing up for them. He doesn’t randomly drift among people but chooses them according to who he thinks is being oppressed and wronged. He’s looking out for his friends but it’s always one-sided; no one is allowed to get close to him in return. It’s not a part of his role because it can put innocent people in harm’s way and he doesn’t feel like he deserves those kinds of friends. At least not until he’s done enough good and become a better person.
“Then he's relationship with jian yi, don't know if he liked him but maybe he was interested in him but it didn't go anywhere because, well zhang. So he moved on until he meet mo.”
Some time ago I answered another ask about what do I think about HT and JY’s friendship. I remember being annoyed by HT at first because I took him being so chummy with JY as a potential third wheel. Love triangles are really not my thing, and I wanted to shoo HT away. However, I don’t think HT got randomly interested in JY. Rather, I would say he probably got closer and closer out of loneliness. Out of the three, JY was the first one who almost sneakily reached a deeper connection with HT.
Secondly, I think HT also got closer to JY because he knew who JY really was. I believe HT was aware of JY’s family’s connections to the same underworld HT was defying. And who would need his protection more than an oblivious kid who was about to be pulled into the same darkness HT had been trying to shed his whole life? Again, I don’t think he randomly switched interests but rather he has his own goals and motives.
Thirdly, I wouldn’t say HT has moved on from JY to MGS. They still have their own unique connection and he’s still very much looking out for JY. It’s just that his interest in MGS - which was also sparked by his need to protect and save those in need - developed to be different in nature. And even if HT hadn’t fallen for MGS, I doubt he would have easily been distracted from his mission to make MGS into an outstanding person and move on to another person. Let’s not forget that besides being someone in need of saving, MGS also acts as a guiding light of sorts for HT. He’s the kind person HT admires and wants to keep around so he won’t stray from his path.
To summarize, I don’t see HT being led by fickle and ever-fluctuating interest until he gets bored with someone and moves on to the next person. I don’t see that in ch. 60 or his relationships with JY and MGS. Instead, he has his own objectives and missions. He’s motivated and guided by his goal of becoming a respectable person by protecting and helping others. However, I would say there’s a certain level of distraction involved in his way of doing things. His goal is to change his destiny, so not getting involved isn’t really an option. He wants saving and protecting to be a part of his nature. Unfortunately, you can’t save everyone, and I’ve always been wondering if HT will end up trying to do just that only to learn it’s not possible. Will he feel responsible and guilty for not being able to help and save everyone?
Your theory has interesting possibilities, and I agree with the overall idea that HT was looking for a clear direction when all he had was an abstract ideal. And I think he found his direction in MGS - in various ways. Thank you for sharing your interpretation with me, dear anon-san!

I don't know if you know kpop but if you were to put the boys of 19 days in a kpop group what headcanons do you have for them? Positions? I love you 💗
(´♡‿♡`) hello, first of all that ‘I love you’ warmed my heart more than you can imagine and I probably wouldn’t be able to convey my gratitude for your kindness no matter how much I tried. now to answer your question… unfortunately I know literally nothing about kpop besides the fact that its korean pop. I once watched a compilation video of some funny moments between kpop stars but I don’t have enough knowledge on what positions there are for kpop or how that industry works, the training etc. so I don’t think I will be able to answer this and for that I apologize immensely.
however, I don’t want to leave you completely hanging — so, since I had another message in my ask box to which I believe is slightly similar to your own question, maybe you would be interested to know what I think regarding this as well since it also has to do with music/roles. I hope this will be able to make up for that.
question from this anon in short is: what do you think their band roles are?
the post they are mentioning that I reblogged is this one in case anyone is wondering. I agree it is strange that some people believe if someone already has an instrument to play it means they cannot be the vocalist, its a very false thing to believe; but maybe they just don’t know or forgot thats not really how bands work most of the time. in fact the majority of singers in bands do, do more than only singing and often play an extra instrument; its actually less common for vocalists to only sing in a rock band.
now to get to actually answering the questions, I think the official artwork which straight up show what they play, as well as hints, and their personalities help to give away what roles they have in the rock band illustrations old xian has drawn. to help explain, I think the positions they have will be similar to how it is in the story ‘given’ by kizu natsuki (which if you haven’t read yet, go read it now, its amazing. mafuyama are my otp, I’ve been reading it for years). you can see their band roles in an edit I made here. essentially there is a vocalist/guitarist, drummer, another guitarist, and a bassist. so this is what I think:
jian yi is the vocalist/guitarist:
(some images taken by the microphone post made by radonyx)
as you can see jian yi has a deep red guitar, which peek — also happens to match zhan zheng xi’s deep red drum set, strapped around himself in the top left image so its automatically a given that he will be playing the guitar. a regular guitar typically has six strings and its sound a bit lighter compared to bass guitars which I think would pair well with jian yi’s voice, who I believe to be the vocalist. jian yi has a very boisterous, outgoing personality, and is far from shy so this role, usually put at the forefront + center of attention, wouldn’t particularly bother him. and not only does he seem comfortable enough for the part — as you, I, and apparently some others believe, it looks to be that there is a silver microphone peeking through, hiding behind zhan zheng xi’s drum set. of course this is just speculation, but it very closely resembles microphones that have a flat top and doesn’t look like it could be much else. its seems to be that zhan zheng xi and jian yi like to keep their instruments together backstage from the official illustrations provided; however, there is a reason I believe zhan zheng xi wouldn’t be the singer out of the two which I will get to later. I imagine jian yi to look something like this:
singing with his guitar in his hands (illustration taken from the promotion of the anime ‘given’ which will be coming out soon). and here is a quote that old xian put in their new artbook (it goes with the illustration of zhanyi wearing matching rings and jian yi with his nails painted black) translated by the lovely @thingsthatfml.
“In the backstage of a musical performance, where the staff run restlessly and busily, only when I sit beside you do I feel at ease/feel the most safe.”
it’s a nice quote and its one I see in the point of view of jian yi who may be feeling a bit nervous before a show; he goes to find comfort and the feeling of protection from his safe haven, the love of his life — and sits beside zhan zheng xi who has sworn him protection since they were young and has always showed him the most care and love in his life. if you would like, check out this amazing fanart of jian yi singing made by trmk1. it is one of my favorite fanarts of him ever.
zhan zheng xi is the drummer:
as shown in the illustrations above, zhan zheng xi is displayed holding drumsticks in his hands with his deep red drum set nearby him — so it’s automatically a given by old xian that zhan zheng xi would be the drummer, and it makes sense because it fits his personality well. its an instrument that is never typically in the front and center and is usually in the background, which goes well with his very ‘keep to myself’ (unless you’re jian yi) personality; now while I don’t think zhan zheng xi is shy, he is not outgoing either. zhan zheng xi is sociable when needed to be but isn’t one to want the spotlight on himself so this is why, for me, he wouldn’t be the vocalist (even though his deep, husky singing voice would no doubt be hot, him being the vocalist in a band doesn’t feel as though it goes with his personality). drummers are also usually the main one responsible for the rhythm of a song, generating a beat and timing for others to follow. drummers also need to know how to accentuate/highlight the rhythms, volume, and have speedy reflexes to go well with certain instruments or quick vocal changes — a responsibility which would be handled well with a serious man like zhan zheng xi.
he tian is the bassist:
he tian would be the one to play the bass guitar. as shown above, his guitar is black and white with 6 strings. a bass guitar usually has anywhere from 4-6 strings. the sounds of a bass guitar in contrast to a regular one is that a bass guitar’s notes are about an octave lower — it sounders deeper than a normal guitar, which is what jian yi and mo would play. bass guitars are also usually a bit larger with a longer neck than regular guitars. I see he tian as the type to try to chase and master something that would be more of a challenge for him, so he would probably go with the one with more strings (plus as shown in the image above, his guitar has 6 strings). bass guitars are also known to be an instrument that works well with the drum set to create a good, cohesive rhythm and/or harmony. the bass guitar is probably something he would master quickly. he tian would probably be the second likely one to sing if not jian yi, given that he is also outgoing like jian yi and doesn’t appear to be very shy; however, to me, he doesn’t seem the type to be the first one to jump at the opportunity to sing either.
mo guan shan is another guitarist:
like jian yi, mo seems to be interested in guitars as heavily hinted in chapter 226 when he passes by a store displaying guitars and he seems to pause and stare at them longingly. normal guitars usually give the player more freedom to go off script with its lighter sounds and for mo it would fit him best because he could control how intricate (or not) he wants his sounds to be, how much attention he wants to attract with it etc., and given his nature of wanting to be as far away from the spotlight as possible, this would be the most comfortable role for him since he would have control over the amount of attention he could grab, essentially just doing what makes him most comfortable. out of everyone he is the least likely to be the vocalist as it wouldn’t fit his character, because being the vocalist usually means being at the forefront and center of display and that is exactly what he despises the most — it’s makes him extremely uncomfortable and he hates, hates, hates it which is also one of the reasons why in chapter 216 he didn’t want to be a model even though the job had good pay.
so in conclusion, I think their band roles are: jian yi = vocalist & guitarist, zhan zheng xi = drummer, he tian = bassist, and mo guan shan = guitarist.
