At Your Side - Billie x fem!reader
𦹠⼠â・Ëâฺ âĄ
Summary: you and Billie attend a meeting together, however you had a long night last night but luckily Billie has a shoulder for you to lay on.
A/N: sorry this took so long but ask and you shall receive đ¤đ
No warnings
Based on this scene from the officeâŹď¸
𦹠⼠â・Ëâฺ âĄ
Billie stared down at her hands, moving and twisting the rings on her fingers absentmindedly as her team talked, mostly between themselves about details that weren't particularly important for Billie to know.
She was going on tour for her new album, 'Hit Me Hard and Soft', which meant a lot of meetings. However it was different, this entire tour would be different then her previous ones, because you were going to be with her.
Billie knew immediately she wanted you to be the opening act for her tour, she went straight to you before any member of her team.
Her knee bounced up and down as she tried to stay awake, which was hard but she knew she had to.
Billie hummed a tune in her mind, thinking about future plans in her head as she fiddled with her rings.
She was completely lost in her thoughts, slapped by reality when she felt a weight on her shoulder. She looked down slightly, trying her best not to move too much, and then she realised.
By accident, you had managed to fall asleep, your head falling against Billie's shoulder who sat beside you in the meeting room.
Billie looked down at you, slightly surprised.
You were at the meeting with her since you were going to be the opening act on the tour, and there were a few details Billie's team had to talk you through.
The meeting was nearing its end though, all the important things said and explained, and Billie would answer any questions you had anyway.
She knew you were up all night reading some book you had bought, or finishing a painting you had begun, it was a habit of yours she knew all too well.
She couldn't help but smile down at you, having the feeling of butterflies fluttering in her stomach. She took the time to admire your peaceful expression, how you smiled even in your sleep, how clear and soft your skin looked and the pretty rose colour of your lips and cheeks.
Billie soon realised she enjoyed the feeling of you laying your head on her shoulder, the closeness it brought. It felt as if a butterfly had landed on her shoulder, delicate and gentle. Billie could smell your vanilla perfume and she could feel your hair prickle against her neck, leaving a slight ticklish feeling she managed to ignore.
Her manager and team droned on in murmurs, she found herself not paying attention, her attention solely on you.
Billie found herself smiling without releasing, but once she did she couldn't hide it. She allowed herself to relish in your presence and under your touch.
She looked away from you shyly even if you were asleep and couldn't see. She felt giddy and completely happy, almost like all her other desires had vanished.
Billie bit her bottom lip as she looked down at her lap. She was sure she was blushing. It was a simple act and yet it had completely taken a hold over her.
As she stared down at the floor Billie realised how fast her heart was thumping in her chest, and how she had the urge to stay in this position and not wake you, bask in the feeling of your head on her shoulder.
You weren't big on physical touch, just offering a short and quick hug here and there, or slightly leaning against her when you two walked side by side, but in this moment you were completely still and relaxed against her. She could really cherish the moment, you didn't pull away and you weren't going anywhere.
Billie wasn't one to get nervous easily or often, she was usually quite a confident person. That never changed much when it came to people she previously had feelings for, but with you that all changed.
As she sat there in the meeting room, Billie was nothing but nerves, scared she would move by accident and wake you, scared that you would pull away and scared she that you may never get this close with her again.
She didn't realise the meeting had ended until people began walking out of the room, one by one, some stopping to talk with others.
Billie frowned as she remained seated, unsure of what to do. She watched people leave the room one by one as she contemplated if she should wake you or not.
Twelve became six and six became three and suddenly it was just Billie and you, alone together with you remaining asleep.
She looked down at you one last time, her smile returning as she noticed how peaceful you looked. She didn't want to wake you but knew you had plans of your own that you had to get to.
Billie hid her smile as she leaned slightly closer to you. "Ahem." She cleared her throat, "hey." She called softly towards you ear. Billie watched you stir awake slowly, your features turning confused as you adjusted yourself in the seat. "Hey." Billie said again, this time with you awake.
She hid her disappointment when you lifted your head from her shoulder rather quickly.
You looked around at the now empty room, which had been full when you arrived, and then to Billie, quickly putting the pieces together as to what had happened.
You cringed, feeling embarrassed, causing your face to flush as you stood up. "Im so sorry." You said, your voice slightly hoarse from sleep. "I don't remember falling asleep, you should have pushed me away or something." You joked, feeling awkward.
Billie looked up at you with a shake of her head. "I didn't mind." She had a small smile on her face that made you believe her words.
You smiled back. You were relieved that you didn't annoy her. "I'll see you around?" You asked shyly.
Billie nodded her head, slightly laughing as she watched you be all cute and shy. "For sure." She said confidently.
With one last smile to her you left the room, you face a rosy hue.
When the room was empty and it was just her, Billie laughed quietly to herself, beginning to play with her rings once again. She smiled at the memory of you asleep on her shoulder, noticing immediately how she longed for you to do it again.

So I was attempting to practice the Cyberverse style Optimus and Megatron, though as you can see, I got a bit distracted at the bottom left, and sort of just had to put something else to fill up space
I actually started practicing yesterday at work, drawing on my cardboard sheets, so it meant I was a bit more practiced when I started here. Though annoyingly, since I elected to not go over my pencil sketches with pen, I could barely make out details in the drawings, and I could barely tell what I was doing on Megatron
It was also going to be more than just their heads, but not only was Optimusâ body taking up most of the canvas already, I wasnât really sure how to draw it at the time. The stuff at the bottom right may have been for filling up space, but I also did need to try and at least practice their bodies
*sigh* the real struggle is making them 3D things. Itâd be so much easier to figure out the shapes if I didnât have to. But oh well, comes with the territory I suppose
But back to it, I think I did alright with the head sketches? They arenât bad, but they feel slightly off, like I havenât quite got them looking right
I probably need more practice, and to actually draw them full body. Also probably wouldnât hurt to look at more Cyberverse fanart for more exposure to the style
I probably also need to start actually drawing characters more consistently, instead of drawing sketches of characters once and then never doing it again. It means I never fully get the hang of it and I keep not really making much of substance
But yeah, I feel like drawing them again at a later date, possibly even with lineless. I just donât know what to draw them doing
But anyways, on to the bottom left
So I had finished the sketches, and my brain was like âwell since weâre here, and we have helm designs right there, we could try making up fankid designs?â and eventually I gave in and decided to start sketching. I knew itâd end up on the final product anyways, but I had to give in to my impulses
Sorry, Iâm sure people are sick of me bringing up this sort of stuff
Then with my first attempt, I ended up with something I actually quite liked. So I was like, might as well fully line and color
I still like the original sketch, so Iâm gonna put it here, and also since I feel like the vibes are slightly different from the final
But then a problem arose after lining and going to colors. Namely that I had designed this on a whim and I had no deep thought as to what colors to use
After some tries I ended up with what you see here, but Iâm not sure if I want to keep these colors. Iâm not sure it fits the vibe the original sketch had
The blue middle piece Iâm especially not sure on. I think it looks off, but I donât know what to color it
Oh also, his purple isnât exclusive to his helm, itâs his main color for the rest of his body too. At least thatâs how it is in my head right now
Also as you may notice between the sketch and final, the eye shadow came later, mostly because I thought he didnât have enough Megatron in his face. But also because of that, I hadnât made the eyes and eyebrows with that in mind. So if I draw him again, thoseâll get tweaked
I still in general donât know if he looks enough like Megatron. I suppose I should be wondering more if he should look more like Optimus, since general shape wise he takes far more from Megs, but Iâm also aware plenty of his colors stray more towards Optimus anyways
Oh yeah also, he has blue eyes here, but I really donât know about that. I wanted to give him something other than blue or red, purple being my initial choice, but I was struggling with the colors in general and so right now he has blue. It works but I wonder if it looks too much like a fusion of their eyes
He needs more work, just like Overdrive I think. But he is here
No clue his name. I wasnât even sure about his gender until drawing made me think âoh yeah thatâs a guyâ. I do have a name in my brain for a megop kid, that being Starcutter (which the two probably didnât pick), but I donât know if that works for him
I do think Iâm going with that idea I posed yesterday (well not yesterday, but yesterday I said âwhat if I put it in Cyberverse?â) of him being the secret megop love child that no one but Megs knows about
I donât know anything about him other than heâs probably on the Autobot half of Cybertron but was never really involved in the war much. To involve him in any plot, he probably comes over to Iacon after the war to try and make some name for himself
Also another idea is that he and Megatron met again during his multiverse adventures, in some universe where he was actually raised by Megatron, possibly where the Autobots and Decepticons never split because Optimus was able to properly reason with Megatron. They didnât take him on their multiverse adventures, probably because Megatron knows he exists in his own universe and doesnât know how to handle two versions, but also possibly because he died, I donât know. But it was these encounters that led to Megatron attempting to search him out when he returned to his own universe. This also means Dead End and maybe Astrotrain knows about the kidâs existence, but theyâre under the assumption they only exist in these wildly different universes, not their own. Which may lead to shenanigans
But yeah I havenât solidified anything else really I donât think. Should work on a name
And I think thatâs about it for now? Yeah I should draw more Cyberverse I guess

03. Bass Fugato
Chorus
Synopsis: Thingsâlifeâit streamlines, and maybe he never had to swallow anything at all. (tw manipulation and financial abuse, ig identity crisis on Curly's part? MINORS DNI.)
Word count: 1.7k
Chapter Navigation: [1] [2] [3] [4]
Notes: were this a full detailed ao3 fic I would've taken a lot more time with building to a flowers for the algernon subtext + symbolism leading to greater clarity moment but. this is stress relief, I do not have the bandwidth to be doing all that sauur yeah. sigh. what I have planned for 4 is so exciting tho muehuehe
Playing housewife for a wealthy woman was the last place Curly ever expected to find himself.
But here he was. And God help him, he was good at it. Better than he had any right to be. The rhythm of domesticity fit him too well, too snug. His cooking had improved, becoming something of an art form rather than a necessity. Cleaning was effortlessâhe liked things neat, and neither of them made much of a mess. The weekly routine of laundry, groceries, and tending to the yard around the house became second nature.
He told himself it was easy. Smooth. No rough edges, no chaos. Just⌠being.
It was the kind of life he'd thought about sometimes, late at night when his body ached and his mind wandered. Something simple, something still.
But when he looked in the mirror, there was a dullness in his reflection that hadn't been there before.
He stuck to you like a shadow, anchoring himself in the spaces you left for him. When you worked, he busied himself with small tasksâorganizing, polishing, preparing. At first, he thought it was temporary. Heâd find a job, something to keep him occupied, to keep him. But every time he tried to bring it up, you'd smile that soft, knowing smile and tell him, âWe have everything we need here, donât we?â
He had no reason to argue with that. Everything he needed was here.
Sometimes he'd hang out with Jimmy, and Jimmy wasnât particularly thrilled with how things were going. He never really liked you, actually.Â
âSheâs got you chained, man,â Jimmy had said once, leaning against the rusted hood of his car, cigarette hanging from his lips like an afterthought. âYouâre like her goddamn lapdog.â
Curly had just shrugged, not bothering to argue. What was there to argue about? Jimmy didnât get it. He didnât get how easy it was to just fall into place. Jimmy wasnât happyânever had been. His whole life was a mess of bad decisions and worse consequences, each one taking a piece of him that he never got back.
âYou donât listen to people who arenât where you want to be in life, right?â youâd told him once, brushing your fingers through his hair as he lay in your lap, staring at the ceiling.
Jimmy wasnât where he wanted to be. His family wasnât where he wanted to be. So where the fuck did he find it?
He wanted happiness. And you had it. You offered it with open arms and a steady presence, wrapped it up in quiet mornings and soft evenings where nothing felt rushed or uncertain.
It was enough, wasnât it?
And yet, in the stillness of it all, something gnawed at him. A restless itch beneath his skin that he couldnât quite scratch. Some nights, after you'd fallen asleep, heâd sit on the edge of the bed staring at the packed boxes still stacked neatly in the corner of the living room. Heâd tell himself heâd unpack them tomorrow, that it was time to fully settle in.
But he never did.
Because some part of him knew that once they were unpackedâonce everything he owned was neatly folded into the life you'd built for himâthere would be no going back.
So he let them sit. Just like he let himself sit in this comfortable limbo, caught between wanting to disappear into you completely and holding on to the last shreds of himself.
You made it easy, after all. Too easy.
When you called his name from another room, he was there. When you pulled him into you, he leaned without resistance. When you told him he belonged here, he nodded without question.
But deep down, he wondered if peace was supposed to feel like thisâlike water slowly filling his lungs, soft and painless, but suffocating all the same.
And if it was, did it even matter?
Because here, with you, he didnât have to fight anymore. And maybe that was enough.
Curly sat at the kitchen table, the hum of the evening blending with the quiet scrape of your fork against your plate. Dinner was simple tonightâsomething light and elegant, the kind of thing he never would have bothered with before you. Before this life.
He listened as you talked about your day, nodding in the right places, but his thoughts drifted elsewhere. It wasnât until you set your fork down and tilted your head that he realized youâd been watching him.
âYouâre quiet tonight,â you observed, reaching across the table to take his hand. Your fingers traced lazy patterns along his knuckles. âIs something on your mind?â
Curly opened his mouth, then hesitated. What was there to say? That he felt himself disappearing piece by piece? That every time he caught his reflection, he wasnât sure if it was him or the man you wanted him to be? He swallowed it down like everything else. You already had a lot on your plate. Pouring over work well past midnight, eating a little less. It would be selfish on his part.Â
âJust tired,â he said instead.
You smiled, squeezing his hand. Poor thing,â you murmured. âYou work too hard.â
He didnât work at all, not really. Not anymore. But before he could say anything, you stood, gathering the plates and carrying them to the sink. Curly moved to get up, but you waved him off with a soft laugh. âNo, sit. Relax. Iâve got it.â
It was small, but it gnawed at him. He used to take pride in doing things, in providing. Now? Now he wasnât sure what he was to you besides a presenceâsomething to fill the empty spaces of your life.
And then, so casually it felt like an afterthought, you said it.
âBy the way,â you called over your shoulder as you rinsed the dishes, âI talked to my accountant today.â
Curly blinked. âYour accountant?â
You hummed. âMhm. I had him take a look at your accounts; just to sort things out and streamline everything. I know you donât keep track of that stuff.â
A cold weight settled in his gut. âYou⌠what?â
âItâs nothing serious, just linked our accounts,â you assured him, wiping your hands and turning back to him with that same patient smile. âYouâve still got access to everything. I just had him tidy a few things upâmade it easier. You donât have to worry about it anymore.â
Curly stared at you, chest tightening. Youâd touched his money. His savings. The last tangible proof that heâd built something for himself before you.
And youâd done it so casually. Like it was a given. Like it was expected.
âYouââ He swallowed thickly, his voice tighter than he meant. âYou had him move things around?â
You blinked at him, your expression soft but unwavering. âYes,â you said simply. âIt just made sense.â
âMade sense for who?â The words came out sharper than he intended.
You tilted your head, a small frown tugging at your lips, like you were puzzled by his reaction. âFor you, of course.â
Curly searched your face, looking for... what? Some sign that you understood? That you realized how it felt? But you didnât, did you? You thought you were helping. And maybe you were. Maybe he should feel grateful, relieved even. But instead, unease slithered through his ribs.
He cleared his throat, his voice strained. âYou shouldâve asked me first.â
You smiled, brushing your fingers lightly over his knuckles, soothing like always. âYouâre overthinking it, love. I know finances arenât your strong suit.â
His jaw clenched. âThatâs not the point.â
You exhaled, amused, and sat back down across from him. âCurly,â you said gently, your gaze unwavering, âI take care of things so you donât have to. Isnât that what you wanted?â
He didnât know how to answer that. Because wasnât it? Wasnât this exactly what heâd thought happiness looked like? No more struggling, no more chasing after something just out of reach. Just... comfort. Stability. You.
And yetâ
He ran a hand through his hair, exhaling sharply. âItâs just... itâs my money,â he said, quieter this time.
You took his hand again, holding it firmly. âItâs still yours,â you corrected softly. âWeâre just⌠In this together now, yeah? All I did was link our accounts.â
He stared at you. âYou didnât think to ask me first?â
Your lips parted in a quiet sigh, as if the question itself was exhausting. âCurly,â you said, leaning forward, fingers brushing over his knuckles again, âI did it for you. This way, you donât have to stress about budgeting things separately. Itâs easier for both of us. Help me help you.â
His shoulders stiffened under your touch. âThatâs not the point.â
You tilted your head, smile patient and firm. âNo, the point is that Iâm making things simpler, my love. You always forget to track your spending, and now you donât have to worry about it. Iâm just helping.â
He swallowed hard. âIââ He cut himself off, running a hand through his hair. âItâs not about the money. Itâsââ
âItâs what?â you asked with a sigh, gaze locking onto his. âCurly, Iâm not controlling you. I just... connected things so itâs easier for you to access my money too. Thatâs what couples do, isnât it? Do you really think Iâm capable of doing something maliciously?â
He blinked, thrown off for a second. âI didnâtââ
âI know youâre not used to this kind of support,â you continued, insistent. âYouâre always so independent, so determined to do things alone. But thatâs not how it works anymore, right? You donât have to handle everything yourself.â
He exhaled sharply, fingers curling into fists. âThatâs notââ
âYou trust me, donât you?â
The question hung in the air, heavy and suffocating.
Curly stared down at the table, his pulse thudding in his ears. Of course, he trusted you. You were the closest thing to stability heâd ever had.Â
His mouth opened, then closed again. The words were there, but they felt weightless.
You leaned closer, resting a hand on his knee, gentle, soothing. âI just want whatâs best for you.â
The warmth of your touch should have been comforting, but all it did was make him feel smaller. Like a piece of him had been quietly set aside, rearranged without his permission.
He forced a nod, unable to look at you. âYeah. Okay.â
âOkay,â you echoed, smiling softly, pressing a kiss to his temple like it was all settled. âI knew youâd understand.â
Curly sat there long after you left the room, staring blankly at the flickering light above the table. The quiet pressed in around him, thick and suffocating.

Hello! This might be a silly question, but I was curious if you have any future Hazbin/Helluva fics or ideas planned once transmissions is completed? Whether it be Drift or Vox & Al centric or otherwise? Absolutely no pressure of course, you do whatever makes you happy at your own time, I know youâve sorta elaborated a little on it in other asks before but I wasnât completely sure lol (everyone btw please go read these fics and give them traction! They are so so good!)
Awww, Anon <3 You got me all blushy now! Really though, glad you like my fics! Was actually in the middle of writing up the next Transmission chapter too, coincidentally <33
But yeah, actually I have a list of different ideas for more helluva/hazbin shenanigans, mostly taking place in the same verse! Haven't decided which to actually start penning yet, and maybe you guys could let me know what interests you the most! Here's a short synopsizes of the ones I had sorta outlined:
For those of you that have read Statistical Outliers, you might remember Vox mentioning an event called the Grand Exhibition, an annual ball that's thrown by overlords for overlords. You might also recall that there's a party that originally inspired that one, a goetia party which even Vox described as 'beyond exclusive'. Well, our media man himself warrants an invitation to this exclusive event, the first overlord personally invited since the one that started the overlord ball! But there's both pluses and minuses to be one of the only Sinners among an echelon of demons who, um, have their own agendas. I say one of because now that's Lucifer is back and trying to spread his wings more, his daughter convinces him to take some of the guests from the hotel as a plus one, or two, or six. Which may include, the the ire of the devil himself, our favorite radio host. Sad as it is to say, Vox might just be safer dancing with Alastor than rubbing elbows with this crowd.
That's the short synopsis but it's kinda a celebration of the hellverse as a whole. You might see some appearances from characters you might not suspect, like Drift, the Sins, famous goetia, and potentially a dysfunctional work family of imps ;)
Another idea actually branches off an initiative that Charlie comes up with, with the assistance of Emily, hoping to help bridge the gap between sinners and winners. And what better way to do that than a friendly interview where Sinners can apologize to the Winners that they may have been sent upstairs before their time. That's the pitch, anyways. In reality? Vox, master of television, is brought on board to help make this whole thing run smooth. And of course he plans on bending it all to his own benefit. Everything kinda gets derailed when the first interview ends up being Drift, meeting the man he hit on accident. And you know? The victim here might not act the way you'd think for an angel.
Aside from some more Drift and Vox interactions, this one was going to go into the kid's backstory in more detail, and kinda comment on the disbalance between judgement of Winners and Sinners. What separates one from the other? Sometimes, all it takes is one bad day. Or being at the wrong place at the wrong time. And Vox is over here looking to make this whole thing turn to his advantage.
On the more Helluva boss centered side of things, I do have a fic regarding Striker and his backstory. Written from the perspective of Striker's childhood best friend, its a story about the wilds of Wrath, where rugged childhood adventures turn to gritty adult drama. Its a rollercoaster, meant to show off how exactly Striker got to be who he was and introducing another character who is going to feature here and there throughout the intertwined webs of stories, my helluva oc, Wyld. This one is already written out quite a bit, nearly 200,000 words at this point, just never published. Wasn't sure there'd be much interest in it. Fair warning, this one gets dark in places because it's very much inspired by gritty realistic westerns, like Eastwood's Unforgiven.
Those are the ones on the docket right now, mostly because those are the ones I've outlined so far, but I'm always adding to it. For anyone interested in my fics, the first one is Statistical Outliers, which is where the main man of television meets a scrawny hairball by the name of Drift and takes it upon himself to, uh, rehome him. And why does it seem like Alastor's sticky fingers are involved in this somehow? The sequel, currently ongoing, is called Transmission Not Received , which is a mystery that forces a reluctant Alastor and Vox to work together to figure out who's running across Pentagram City and nabbing kids from right under their parents' noses in the dead of night.
Hoping to get the next chapter of Transmission up soonish and, boy, is it a doozey!
Either way, let me know what you guys think, maybe check out the fics if ya see something that interests you, and a special shout out back to Anon for making my day! <3
Thanks for the ask! <33

and a Uyghur boy whoâs moved to her community from China after finding acceptance in an online community (even when he doesnât agree with their more extreme views) - but when he gets to know Bugz, he has to decide who truly deserves his loyalty
great mix of sff and culture, the future while also very real community traumas of the past (and present)
#walking in two worlds#the everlasting road#wab kinew#aroaessidhe 2024 reads#This has some REALLY interesting and important concepts!#I just think it could have used some more development⌠Obvs this is YA and Iâm an adult I know Iâm not quite the audience!#Thereâs a lot of depth in the setup of the characters but I feel like it skips a lot of the progression#I think there could have been space for more development in a lot of places to make the story feel more dimensional#- but also has so many plot threads that maybe that would have bulked it out too much#It does also jump around quite a bit between the different parts but I think that makes sense with how juggling with irl / online life.#sheâs got a lot of internalised fatphobia at the start (and the love interest going âI donât think youâre fat!!â when people call her fat..#then in book 2 suddenly sheâs okay about it - again I wish there was some progression!#her brothers cancer journey is. basically all offscreen lol mostly as set up for plot in book 2. so it doesn't have the emotional impact it#could have..#I liked the way it integrates her culture into the game in a really cool way (though I would have liked more detail there)#also having auto language translators but they regularly don't translate quite right / still run into issues - realistic!#the parallels drawn between his being taken from his family and put in a state education school and Indigenous residential schools#the way that a future world will never be as separate from the past as ur average sff future often portrays#but yeah anyway lots of good ideas execution not so much for me..

Ep 4 :)
#I LIKE Dostoyevsky. I like how mysterious and unreadable he is. What is his goal!!!! Why does he do what he does!!!!!!! He's very cool#I think knowing his ability now REALLY adds to his character. Him being so smart so manipulative so disruptive in the way heâ#seemingly kills people on touch! Only added to this impression of him being âdemonâ and âinhumanâ#But now that we know his ability you realize... That's all his doing; no ability.#His ability in a way does help humanize him by reaffirming that except for the moment he diesâ he's got no superpower at all!!!#It's just him.#And yet at the same time also solves the exact opposite role of dehumanizing him because if it's not his ability that makes him like *that*#then he's even different than other ability users!!! Thenâ if not an ability userâ if not a non ability user: what is //he//?#It's all SO compelling!!! Also makes for an extremely insightful narrative parallel with Dazai#Not an ability user not a non ability user. Not good not evil. (I feel like Dostoyevsky does exceed the definitions of good and evil asâ#much as Dazai does. If he causes evilâ yet does so with the intention of bringing salvation to humansâ is he really *simply* evil?)#Both have these borderline superpowers that make them extraordinary beings (we can call it super intelligenceâ but it goes from controlling#their own heartbit to everything else) but are unrelated to their respective abilities! Once again making them neither this or that#I find Karma's words at the end to be extremely insightful.âAce was evil for sureâ but this man isn't even evil.#He's a being from the beyond. A being that exceeds human limits.â Like!!! That's all that there is to it!!!!!!#Back to this chapter / episode. There's some themes / worldvies once again I don't agree with but narrative wise I think it's extraordinary#I feel like after the Guild arc the writing really matured a lot and this is a kind of preview of what the doa arc is going to be like#(aka very very well written especially if compared to the previous arcs)#The plot twists of this episode are all so unpredictable and exciting!!! I think it's remarkably witty how it takes advantages of previousâ#clichĂŠs - villains always revealing details about their own ability in a way that is quite baffling - to actually surprise the audience.#It's so effective. How skillfully unpredictable Dostoyevsky is to the point you can never guess what he will do next!!!#Him killing Karma is... Idk so so soooooooo interesting. I could talk about this forever but I'm being very dispersive in the rable andâ#running out of tags. The whole episode you're sorta rooting for Dostoyevsky. He's very cool and comes out charming in the way he keepsâ#surprising the audience. He looks bothered by Ace's disregard of other people's lives and that makes him sympathetic too.#But then he kills Karma out of nowhere and it's an âAh! You fell for his lies tooâ remember he's nothing but evil. He cares just as little#about life as Ace doesâ. And then??? Karma in his last words is himself so generous in his words to Dostoyevsky. It's baffling.#And it almost feels like thenarrative is once again turning around and telling you you should root for Dostoyevsky.#It's endlessly fascinating.#I have more to say about the worldviews I don't share and the art style Dostoyevsky was portrayed with this episode (love it!!)#But alas ran out of tags

OMG so glad people are talking abt azrael 1995 i have sooo many thoughts about it. Denny OâNeil has worked on so many amazing comics, but Azrael 95 is like his little personal project and thereâs so much weird shit that occurs narratively and thematically that makes me wonder abt the guy sometimes.
On the topic of Batman being a POS to Azrael, at least part of that is because OâNeil probably needed to get Azrael out on his own. If he had Batman agree to go with JPV to fight the order of st Dumas, the comic would be Batman, fighting the order of st Dumas, instead of Azrael. But it definitely gets kind of excessive. And it doesnât explain why he canât like.. train JPV off âcameraâ so to speak or in the background or even in a mini. Batman often comes across like he just hates JPV. I personally read this as a consequence of JPV being a reminder of his weakest point in Bruceâs life since his parents died: Batman at his most vulnerable. And also a reminder of his fallacy of judgement w Azbats of course. Also, the âlessonâ of Knightfall kind of fails within Azrael: Batman frees JPV to discover his own identity and find himself outside the Batman mantle, he literally lets JPV walk away from the alternative, jail: and JPV ends up in a homeless shelter and spends the rest of Azrael 95 still trying to figure out who he is, never quite succeeding for long. It can be taken as an meta ironic play on the fact that how Batmanâs identical lesson he receives from Knightfall continues to be rehashed arc after arc event after event, Bruce never really learns his lesson either: heâs always pushing someone away, heâs always falling too far into the Bat mantle and trying to do everything on his own. Neither âlearn their lessonâ and so Batmans apparent hatred of JPV could be taken as a disgust and uncomfortableness with this fact.
The whole âgreatest mistakeâ but is so funny to me because because itâs such a common way that Batman referred to JPV and making JPV Batman during Knightfall I literally made a joke drawing when Jason came back to life and Bruce called him his worst mistake instead, with JPV holding a mug that said: âBatmanâs Second Worst Mistakeâ. Would post it but I donât have it rn unfortunately. Point is youâre so so right.
I really really recommend reading Knightfall by the way, I know itâs like 72 issues but itâs so so good. The BBC Radio Drama is a good substitute tho, a lot of the dialogue is ripped straight from the comics, but it misses a few moments.
JPV could technically return to school, youâre so right, and Itâs strange that it doesnât really come up so much. And I hadnât really thought about why he doesnât. Even when he has like his âlol Iâm going to be normal and not Azrael arcâ I donât think he talks about returning to grad school. Could be forgetting tho.
A Lot of details about Jean Paul and his âcivilianâ life make no fucking sense. Idk if youve read NML yet, but a lot of those inconsistencies start to shine through there, which is super strange given Iâm pretty sure Denny OâNeil was writing those issues too. Basically, we get indications that JPV never had a ânormalâ life, despite his computer grad apparent civilian life and pretty average behavior v early on in Sword of Azrael. (Vague bc Iâm Trying not to spoil in case you havenât read the issue Iâm thinking of here) Which is so weird. Honestly one of the things I think Rebirth did well was how they retconned these aspects of Azraels character into one clear story which encapsulated them both.
I'm reading the OG run of Azrael (1995) by Denny O'Neil and honestly Batman/Bruce just irks me in a way I really didn't expect. I'm reading issue #36 and my biggest gripe is...why doesn't he teach him?Like legitimately why doesn't he teach him, or atleast send him to someone who could. That just feels so obvious to me.
It's obvious JPV is a danger to himself and others, and it's obvious Bruce's initial plan of just....giving him the mantal without any help and extremely minimal training wouldn't work but even if he says he doesn't blame JPV um????? You sure aren't acting like it???? Seriously that guy needs an ACTUAL therapist (and no, Brian doesn't count when he so obviously needs his own mental help). He is traumatized, extremely repressed, and is being actively manipulated by Lilhy and I'm just.....MAN.
People say Jason is his greatest mistake but honestly I think it might be tied with JPV at this point, bc unlike Jason (I may be wrong, haven't read Under the Red Hood yet), Bruce has so. many. chances. It's so obvious Jean-Paul looks up to him, he wants to do something good and I get he wasn't Bruce's responsibility, but I do think after Bruce took him into vigilanteism he has an obligation to help. He took those lessons to heart and made them vital parts of himself, that he had to help people and he had to go out in order to do that.
Like JPV had a life. He was getting a degree in computer science for christ's sake. Why didn't Bruce just...let him go back to that? (Tbf i may be misinformed on that last part , I did not read the Knightfall saga I listened to the radio drama instead when I found out there was one.) But seriously. He's rich. Just...get him a psychologist and leave him alone.

Do you have any general hcs of the 1bit/1beat cast? Anythings fine
Kind of rough but
-I've played around with the idea with Eruno being from an orphanage/foster home(the "because you've got a proper family" bit) but I go back and forth on this one.
-Nio and Sakuma are friends! He does shifts at Bitwave they hang out there. The poor boy needs someone to fend off the fangirls.
-Eruno and Akitaka accompany Haruya on deliveries sometimes. Pals.
-When Aira's mimetic muscles get installed she doesn't really quite get how to use them immediately. Her expressions start out real stiff(which she expresses dissatisfaction with, and gets help from the others) to real exaggerated and overplayed(think unbridled rage or pained anguish at things that just kind of annoy her).
-Also she has Kiri make her taller so she can grow alongside her friends!
-Also Also by 1beat she has at LEAST one sibling who's just, a really muscled out doll in frilly clothes.
-Meru listens to death metal. She'd hoped it'd help her stay up better but now she just kind of likes it.
-Outside of tending to the shrine, Hakuhi has embroidery as a hobby.
-Izuchi took piano lessons when he was younger(parents made him do it to try and play up the prodigy genius image). He quit.
-That potion thing he made in 1beat was ripped from Kirai's anime but in part he'd made it after Eruno came to him Demanding a way to make her dog live longer.
-He went to Blue sun college(less because he thought he needed to and more for the benefits a degree there would give him) and got into an apprenticeship with Kiri. He keeps the lab when Kiri moves to Coco Alley(easier to skirt by the law). Familiar with the Blue Sun Trio to some extent.
-He has a sweet tooth but doesn't really admit it because he deems it unhealthy.
-While he did have a hand in the creation of the master program, he doesn't stay on the team after it's finished. Does continue to get occasional updates about it from Hiyu and Nanase though.
-His room is all clean and organized on the surface(maybe a few seashell displays, a poster covering a hole in the wall) but he keeps all the goofy weird shit stored away in drawers and under his bed.*
-I've played around with the idea of there being a 3rd Nasuga sibling who's just too young to be relevant in the game(<-no canon basis i just thought it'd be fun) but I'm not sure if I'd keep that.
-Enri has a pet hamster! He's like the band's son.
-The gang Kirara used to be a part of was like a sparkly gyaru girl gang. She never really enjoyed fighting but took a lot of lessons growing up so she was really good at it. The gang is still going strong though and at least a few of her Gyaru Friends are members(and there's at least one member who's just a plain normal ass girl that hangs around them but that's getting into oc territory).
-Rocca ends up growing up to be like Really Fucking Tall. Momori models clothes on her and remarks that she could be a model if she didn't trip over herself so much(not that she'd want to be one anyways).
-Mary has 3 siblings, they've done a way better job at staying out of the public eye(and have grown somewhat distant from her as a result).
-On account of being friends with a lot of the townspeople and having a lot of relatives, Hitohito is just one of those guys with a lot of connections. In a "guy who knows a guy" way.
-Chino is Coco Alley's mom jkasdsa.
--She brings Sora(was familiar with his family and doesn't want him to get too lonely) cookies and flowers sometimes and while he's dismissive about it he does secretly appreciate it.
-Tobari is the heiress to a big tea emporium who dipped because she got bored and/or got into a disagreement with someone over there, but continues playing up her Elegant Fancy Lady image despite living paycheck to paycheck(which I mean, good for her I guess.)
-Although Sagara knows Asuto through Hitohito, they actually interact fairly regularly in anime forums.
-Hitohito, Izuchi, and Sagara were on friendly terms when they were kids but grew distant for reasons. Hitohito and Sagara had gotten back in touch and still hang out. Heat reached out to Izuchi but was promptly brushed off, still looks out for him. Izuchi and Sagara have a weird frenemy/rival thing going on.
-Sagara has no siblings she just kind of lives alone with her mom who may or may not hate her.(although it's less "hate" so much as disappointment)
-Sagara's chicken avatar is modeled after one of her childhood pets.
-Sagara definitely Naruto runs.
-She holds DnD(\Dnd adjacent. Just some ttrpg I'm not an expert) sessions at every couple of weeks. I'm not saying Izuchi willingly participates(those commoners are hopeless without his guidance), just that she didn't exactly have very many other people to invite(Hitohito and sometimes Meu and eventually Nanashi).
-She has a knack for trying to help townspeople as part of some sort of Magical Girl Code but isn't as good at it as she thinks she is.
-She has a compartment in her arm warmers that's full of bird feed, she's made an alliance with the pigeons.
-While she does cool it with the Organization stuff, she never drops the chuuni behavior. Eventually opens a small cake shop with some edgy chuuni-esque title(debated on whether it should be in the same place Little Berry was, like after little berry closes its doors).
-Nomiya and Hiyu butt heads a lot but they both get along fine with Azusa. Somebody needs to be nice to her god damn it.
-The Kujohs have a pet dog but it's actually Azusa's. Following with the rest of the family, it's a big intimidating dog that's actually just really chill. Enri has tried to look past it but he's always very leery about visiting them.
-Nomiya's riding an adrenaline high throughout most of the game but his more calm demeanor in his events is just him going in the opposite extreme as a result of coming down from it. He's usually fairly loud and confrontational, just not THAT loud and confrontational.
-He keeps in closest touch with Tobari after the hackers are disbanded. Somewhat on account of her being able to hold her own in Break Passage the best out of the other three. She views him as a weird little brother.
-The hackers hold gatherings in memory(or what little of that memory they even retained. It's mostly secondhand from Nanashi) of Mikado where they commit minor crimes. The gathering was Kotora's idea the crime was Nomiya's.
-Sagara has a journal that she calls the Abyss Tome that's just full of fanfiction and anime drawings of herself and her friends(/enemies). Has a bunch of spell names listed down in it.
-Saaya and Meu are friends! Saaya comes to her for divinations about her love life a lot and just ends up venting. Meu's happy to listen though and tries to comfort her the best she can.
-Speaking of therapy though, Saaya does get therapy sometime post-canon and distances herself from Nanase(while a lot of Nanashi's friendships that start off on the wrong foot have room for growth, the memory thing makes things kind of... weird with her). She's in a much better state by 1beat.
-Saaya writes a lot of poetry.
-Yoh and Sagara are related. Somehow(I did consider nephew at one point but that didn't really pan out).
-So are Hiyu and Arumu. They've got that green hair and funky eyebrows.
-Akuta and Kaori date briefly(well, she's a fan of his work, and he is rich, and while he can't speak multiple languages he is well-spoken, what could go wrong?) which just ends in them breaking up over a disagreement over a book's ending. That was more the final straw though, actually getting to know him put into perspective just how far from her expectations he actually is and she's not super pleased about it. They do stay friends but something something important lesson about your idols being people.
-I feel like I've said somewhere that Kotora leaves the cafe to Rocca when he retires but I need to clarify that Kotora keeps being the cafe guy well into old age and that Rocca would be a whole adult by then.
-Kaori was the youngest of her siblings and only one to stay with her mother, she sees her dad as a good for nothing deadbeat(it wasn't an amicable divorce) and the ordeal heavily influenced how she views romantic relationships as a whole. Grew up somewhat distant from Kotora and their sister but reconnected in adulthood.
-Her "ideal guy" is just the best traits of her favorite book leads cobbled together like some kind of frankenguy. (And she might be internalizing something... who knows)
-The world did enter a more 'cyberpunk dystopia'-esque futuristic state a long time ago and the return to more traditional old timey ways is sort of in response to that, but Yasune is the only one who'd actually lived through it. Although then again the 2nd oldest character in the game is only 36 so...
The post is starting to not process so I'm going to cut it off here.
#*The example I had listed on my hc file was 'life sized Danny Devito cardboard cutout' but I don't know if I want to keep that#The piano hc was more the remnant of a sweet beach band au I had because I was thinking about rainbow rocks again#Sweet beach is interestingly enough my go-to for aus. I've never even told you guys about the fantasy au#(they're just adventurers though it's nothing extravagant. It doesn't even cover all the characters)#Mary's parents were in the picture when she became an idol but her siblings were raised by their grandparents.#Tobari stays at hotels and spends most of her paycheck on fancy tea.#she's kind of ridiculous levels of Jack-Of-All-Trades but it helps that she's a fast learner#Chino wasn't incredibly close with Sora's parents(friends maybe) but that won't stop her from looking out for the boy. New son#Haruya was probably pals with his brother. Regardless of how he may have felt about Sora himself(scary)#Kirai probably made an offhanded comment about outgrowing everyone someday so he's really pissed when he ends up#shorter than both Haruya and Rocca#You probably were wanting more 1beat hcs but as much as I love the 1beat cast I've only replayed recently#so none of my thoughts about the cast are quite fully formed yet#Might make a follow up eventually though because the hc file is Long#Omitted most of the ones I've already talked about but since those are scattered about my tags and the server I probably#should've included some of those too. Feel free to ask for elaboration on anything#Some of them get kind of lengthy too and I left most of those out but I did leave a few in and just heavily handwaved the details#Some of the shorter ones were shortened too because the post just wouldn't process ashsaldhjka#pieceofcake.txt#cakeheadcanons

..... After playing the new Baxter Dlc for Our Life I don't think this will be a purely Obey Me blog...
Listen I ALWAYS loved Cove, but I played Our Life before making this blog! Now that I've played the Baxter Dlc I'm itching to write something for him! And Cove to!
#granted this wouldnt become a spilt blog#my main focus has been and will always be Obey Me on this blog#i just mignt write a handful of things for Our Life#listen Baxter is too much of a brat for me NOT to#hmmmm. i saw someone in the Our Life tag mention poly Mc/Baxter/Cove and i cant get the thought of my mind#not me day dreaming about a fic on how that would go...#maybe Cove finally realizes his feelings for Mc when Baxter moves in... while also being drawn to Baxter#Baxter noticing that Cove likes Mc and tries to take a step back. believing that they would be the better couple#but Mc doesnt let him. they firmly grasp onto both Cove and Baxter and refuse to let either of them go#so the three spend three months dancing around each other and never quite admiting your feelings for each other#which i know is rare for Baxter but he truly believes that he would only get in the way of your and Cove's relationship so he tries to#distance himself. and Cove has low key abandonment issues so THAT causes Problems. and Mc is stubborn and doesnt give up easily#then during Baxter's last day the three of you end up all making out. maybe drunky? idk. havent hashed out the details yet. and when you#and cove wake up Baxter is GONE because he panicked. and doesnt reply to your or Cove's texts for five years until you and cove see him#again when youre planning Scott and Jude's wedding.#so uh. yeah. sorry for the ramble but thats the basic idea lol.

very messy word dump below the cut + in tags :^) heh
okay itâs officially been a full day since reading this and iâm going to write down everything i remember feeling from day 1! and then in the tags im going to reread this (for the third time within 24 hours) and add thoughts that i didnât put down here. SORRY FOR THE MESS & NO PRESSURE TO READ ALL THIS SJKDMF IT IS JUST A LOT OF WORD VOMIT BC IM INSANE OVER THIS FIC
okay i should start from the beginning. Wait Iâll use caps so itâs easier to read if youâre reading it bahahhaa OKAY. The way you write alpha / omega!!! Itâs different from what Iâm used to readingâ and I mean it has a lot of a depth. The way you wrote reader being an alpha = being so protective over Aventurine fucked me up so bad /pos. Reader just wants him safe and theyâre so real for that.
Going off on that, I LOVE HOW U WROTE THE READER. Understands Aventurine so well. Will literally do anything to keep him safe. Understands what sets him off and what heâs comfortable with. The part where Aventurine was talking about the next mission & reader seeing right through him ): are you serious /pos. WAIT I SKIPPED TOO FAR AHEAD. When Aventurine was trying to get reader to join the IPC? Dead. Evie DEAD. Reader saw right through him omg. Being able to notice the little changes in his scent, the way he tries to mask it etc etc. I love that so bad.
WHEN READER FOUND HIM IN HEAT FUUUCK. ARE YOU SERIOUS /pos. Fighting the urge to help him vs waiting to just make it better because reader has the power to ): I loved that so much. The struggle was so real. Literally bringing a doctor just to hear that he needs an alpha to help anyways omg. Lowkey when the doctor said that I was like PLEASE LET US HELP YOU PLEASEEEEEEE. But also. I didnât want him to be scared either you know ):
I skipped over another scene sighs. THE part where reader said âI like your eyes because theyâre yoursâ and then the end. Him saying he likes our scent because itâs ours. Are you serious /pos. Be so serious /pos.
Okay the scent gland scenes actually fucked me up so bad (I unfortunately did not dream about anything but maybe that is for the best because Iâm still recovering from this scene). The part where he asks for just the wrist. Reader struggling when they FEEL HIS TEETH GRAZE THE WRIST IM GONNA EXPLODE OMFG. The immediate pulling away because we donât want to scare him please. + the scent gland scene at the end. HE DIDNâT FEEL LIKE HE HAD TO BE ON TOP. We could lay side by side ): I was so happy that he was okay with that omg. Literally all giddy like aaaaa!!!!!! IM NOT A THREAT!! Actually thatâs a lie I wasnât giddy. I was literally in tears jejdkckckckk Aventurine đđ ughhhhhhh /pos
I wonât comment on the actual scene (I am commenting on it right now actually) because I was literally so sad and my heart hurt so badly for him. I wanted him to see himself from our POV for just one moment so he can understand that we genuinely love him and treasure him & want to keep him safe. ):
ABOUT YOUR WRITING ITSELF : insanity. I will just say insanity. How should I put it in wordsâŚ.. just thinking about this fic again is taking all the words out of my mouth shejdjfjj (I say this as I type a 27738 page essay about it). I love how you write. I really do. Your writing style is so beautiful. I havenât read the other tags under your fic but Iâm sure many others have said the same thing!!! They word it better than me Iâm sure bsjsjsjsjsk
I just love everything about it. How you add in little details (oh! Speaking of detailsâ Aventurineâs reaction to reader cozying up to her husband in the other fic) HEJDJJDJDJ omg. But in this fic, the little signs of him being scared. Scared 24/7 actually ): I love how you conveyed his fear so much. And the way he tries so hard to hide it. HIM CRUMBLING DOWN TO HIS RAW SELF WHEN HES IN HEAT. AND THE FEAR THERE TOO. INSANE.
^^ How you wrote him so adamant about not needing help at first âŚ. To him asking for the scent gland âŚ.. to him agreeing to use reader. It was all so real. He didnât just change his mind like oh okay! It took him a while to be okay with it and I love how real it all felt. You write dialogue & little details so wellâ it actually drives me nuts (/compliment /pos)
Oh this just reminded me. Your description of how Aventurine smells killed me /pos. And how you describe his scent as sweet. Iâm really not okay /pos. It fits him so well. And ⌠for readerâŚ. the scent after rain ? Oh my god ???? I love that smell so much. Itâs so comfortingâŚ. OMG. COMFORTING????????? BECAUSE. Oh wow. Iâm really not okay now. I JUST LOVE ALL THE DETAILS LIKE THAT )))): itâs so clear you put so much thought into all these things because your fic has so much depth. I lowkey yanked out Notibility for your other Aventurine fic to highlight the parts I wanted to comment on ehdjdkkck I was annotating it like a book (Iâm so sorry if this is creepy I promise I donât do this on a regular basis. I donât annotate fics normally. Actually please disregard this because Iâm a bit red admitting this) (I just have the memory of a goldfish and can only remember feelings and not actual content) (Thatâs a lie because here I am remembering a lot of this fic MOST LIKELY BECAUSE I READ IT WITH MY EYES AN INCH FROM THE SCREEN PROBABLY I WAS LIKE O_O) /pos
NIGHT FLOWER: part i
Your place in the world was one of a tool. This was true of every slave: you were all things to be used. Kakavasha understood this about you, and he understood this about himself. It was how he survived all those years ago, and itâs how he survives now. And so, when Aventurine goes into his first heat in years and decides to suffer it alone, you can only think of one way to get him to accept your help: You offer to let him use you.
written for @/lorelune's spring fever collab & @ficsforgaza
13.5k words of omegaverse, mutual pining, hurt/comfort, angst with an eventual happy ending. gn alpha reader + omega aventurine (they each have both amab and afab genitalia). explicit piv sex, reader bottoms, the sex is consensual but emotionally complicated and deeply sad. cw slavery, racism, gendered violence, including very brief and non-graphic (but direct) references to sexual abuse during slavery. the sa and slavery are not eroticized. dead dove do not eat, mdni.
thank you to @acerathia, @minnaci, @owlespresso for all your help with beta reading and to @kosmiccarma for brainstorming omega aventurine hcs!
âIâve alwâââ lâved âââ, Kaââvâsââââ
You knew it from the moment you met him.
Gaunt, pallid, weighed down by heavy chains. Irises that glowed like the auroras back in your world. Delicate features that made every passerby in the market stop to read the description on the placard. (Sigonian, it said, although you couldnât read at the time. Avgin. Male. Omega. Sixteen years old. Sixty Tanba, no tax.) He had an all-consuming scent that was impossible to ignoreâone that possessed you, made your heels dig into the dirt, every atom in your body resisting the impatient jerk of the chains at your wrist. Even through your muzzle, through the perpetual stench of carbon-steel and blood, you could smell it: honey and wildflowers. A fragrance that settled deep within you, flooded you with a warmth that felt like home.
Aventurine is not a spiritual person. He once told you this, his smile cold in the glow of an artificial moon. He'd been deeply religious as a child, but hasnât since cared for fairy tales about fortune and fate, three-eyed goddesses or merciful rainfalls. Hasn't thought about anything like a destined love. He thinks the idea of a true mate is laughable, that no such bond could ever be forged between an omega and an alpha. That nothing so unconditional could ever exist.
You know differently, of course. You've known it from the moment you met him, from the second you laid eyes on him and thought, I need to help you, and I need to protect you, and I need you to be safe, and youâd never once heard the word âloveâ in your lifeâslaves are never loved by their masters, after all, and you'd always been nothing but a slaveâbut every atom of your being knew that you loved him, that you'd always love him.
And when your master cradled your face that night and crooned that he owned you, that you'd always be his obedient, alpha petâfor the first time in your life, you knew that he was wrong.
You didn't belong to your slaver.
You belonged to him.
To Kakavasha.
These days, Aventurine does not smell like honey, and your jaw is not restrained.
Your muzzle was one of the first things that Aventurine threw away when he bought your freedom. According to the Amber Era system, it had been several months since the murder of your shared master. Ninety-five Star Calendar days after the Interastral Peace Corps had arrested Kakavasha. An entire rotation around the black hole at the centre of your wretched galaxy, all of which had been spent in the captivity of some new mistress. She picked you out because she liked your calming scent and the look of your face, but mostly she used you for the fighting pits just like your old master.
Aventurine had been sitting in the audience of your final match, then bought you out right after you won. âIâm in need of a fighter,â heâd said, smiling in his thick furs and jewels. He played the part of a slavemaster perfectly, his gloved hands wandering the span of your aching shoulders, touching the bloodied maw of your mask. âAnd Iâd be willing to pay top credit for yours.â
She protested. You were her most prized possession, one of her greatest investments. Slaves from your planet were hard enough to come byâalphas capable of reproduction, nearly impossible. And you were so well-behaved, so poised, so endearing in a way that was rare for alphas. She was fond of you. Her omega slaves were fond of you too. They would be distraught if you left, and that would complicate her household affairsâand surely Aventurine, as a respectable owner of human capital like herself, could understand how inconvenient that would be?
Aventurine bared his teeth in a gracious smile. (Youâd never seen Kakavasha make such an expression beforeâso disarming, so cunning, a crescent moon beneath snake eyes. Heâd never smelt like this either, like an expensive cologne layered with bleach, and it left you feeling nauseous, wondering if he was ill.) He flirted his way into her good graces, made her an offer she couldnât refuse, and then he brought you into the first-class ship on which heâd arrived. You were so stunned by its luxuryâthe handwoven carpets, the crushed velvet seats, the imported tea from several galaxies away and the custom-ordered outfit he had bought for youâthat you nearly missed the tremble in his hands as he punched numbers into the remote control lock for your chains.
He had regained his composure by the time he pulled away your muzzle, though. He threw it carelessly to the groundâyour titanium chains, too. Then kicked both away with his shined leather shoes.
âThere,â Aventurine said, smiling cheerfully. âMuch better, donât you think?â
âVashaââ you started, voice thick with wasted grief, and all you wanted to was reach for him, to double check that he was real, but he placed a finger to your lips and stopped you. You stiffened at the satin touch, but he seemed unbothered.
ââAventurineâ,â he corrected.
You stared blankly. âWhat?â
ââAventurineâ. Like the gemstone. Thatâs my name now.â
âYouââ Your voice caught in your throat. You realized that youâd been holding your breath. You always had the habit of holding your breath in the luxurious, private rooms of very rich men, because you never liked what happened in them. Forcing yourself to breathe, you asked, âYou gave yourself a new name?â
âNo. The IPC gave me a new name. They gave me a job, too.â
âA job?â you asked, voice faint. Now that you were breathing again, you were noticing once more just how bizarre he smelled. Sterile and expensive and completely foreign. âYouâre free now?â
âWell, Iâm a freedman, but I donât know if Iâd call myself free. Iâm a bit⌠indebted to the IPC, letâs say. But thatâs fine. I canât complain. I meanâlook around. This beats the fighting pits, doesnât it?â He gestured lazily at your surroundings, and you nodded.
âItâs nice here,â you replied, feeling absurd but not knowing what else to say. Once Kakavasha got talking, it was impossible to get a word in edgewise.
âYou like it here? Good. This roomâs yours. Mine is the next one over. Youâll live and work here, with me. Iâll make sure youâre paid well. Full benefits, vacation, salary, and overtime. The standard pay for your role is seventy-thousand credits per month, but Iâll see if I can get you more. HR is pretty strict about their hiring policies, butââ
âYouâre hiring me?â
Aventurine went very still, his smile tightly controlled. His eyes remained fixed on you, but they seemed less snake-like, now. They looked more familiar. More afraid.
âIâm offering, yes,â he said neatly. âYouâll be part of my personal security detail. I donât have the contract for you to review yet, unfortunately. I didnât arrange one ahead of time because, wellââhe laughed, as if this were polite conversation and he were making a joke about the weatherââI didnât know if Iâd find you alive. But things worked out in my favour. They always work out in my favour. Iâll make sure theyâll work out in your favour too, so long as youâre with me. So youâll consider it, wonât you? Staying withâworking for me, I mean.â
Your eyes went soft. Beneath the artificial fragrance, you finally caught a hint of his familiar scentâmore wildflower than honey at that moment, the way it always is when heâs scared.
âKakavashaââ
âName your price,â he said loudly, âand Iâll match it.â
You sighed. âVasha,â you said more gently, and his shoulders relaxed at the subvocal shift in your timbre, at the famed alpha Voice that necessitated your muzzle, âI donât care about the money. Of course Iâll stay here. Butâwhat happened? Why did you kill him yourself? Why didn't you let me do it? That was the plan. It was always supposed to be me.â
It was my job, you thought then, just as you had thought to yourself every night, curled up in your bed and trying to recall the scent of fresh honey, to keep you safe.
He shrugged and said, âIt would have been too risky to involve you.â
âYou were caught and sentenced to death. The risk was already too high.â
âBut the stakes werenât,â he replied simply, and before you could ask what he meant by that, he continued, âand it worked out, didnât it? I work for the IPC. You work for me. Weâre freedmen now. Whatever I've lost, it doesn't matter. Our gains far outweigh it.â
âAnd what have you lost, Vasha?â
He smiled at you, charming and distracting. A crescent moon beneath snake eyes. âNothing of value,â he reassured you, and even though you could feel the calm of an omegaâs voice washing over you, even though it released all the tension in your body, all you could smell was cologne and wildflowers, and you knew that he was lying.
Vasha once told you, curled up and quiet on the basement floor, that he despised his eyes. They were supposed to be a sign of blessing from Gaiathra Triclops, but they'd never brought him anything but trouble. They were the first thing that the slavers always noticed about him, the feature that made him such an alluring commodity. Their aurora glow, their strange beauty, their promise of a rare opportunity: a chance at owning a specimen of an exotic, endangered species, possibly the last of its kind. These are all things that you've heard in the parlour of your masterâs house as he entertained rich company, the crowd of them gawking at his human curios.
Avgin are said to make the most beautiful slaves, he'd often say. And Avgin omegas are said to be the most beautiful among them. What do you all think? They'd all hum, peering closely at Kakavashaâs features, and inevitably someone would joke, I think I'd like to borrow him sometime, and then they would all laugh while your pulse ticked up and you imagined tearing at their throats. Vasha would search for your gaze in these moments, giving you a long, pointed look: Don't do anything stupid.
Heâd always been so blasĂŠ about it, the way people fixated on his Avgin blood. You'll never understand how. He didn't react to any of the comments, the groping, the innuendos. He was, however, distinctly unimpressed at the way that your master liked to play him up as a rare and expensive acquisition, as a sign of his own status. It's embarrassing to watch, Kakavasha had remarked. Everyone knows that Sigonian slaves are uncommon but cheapâpeople always think weâll bring them more trouble than our worth. This was how Kakavasha had ended up in the market in the first place: because his last master had been robbed, and he'd been wrongly blamed for it.
The blame, to this day, has never stopped. Peopleâpowerful people, politicians, businessmen, socialitesâlook at Aventurineâs eyes and immediately reach for their pockets. You've seen it for yourself, these spineless despots and scammers feeling for their wallets. Sigonian, you know they're thinking. Liar, cheat, thief, whore, worthless, worthless, worthless. Your hands tighten around your blade each time, a loaded gun with a finger on the trigger.
Alphas are said to be violent by nature. Aventurine has often called you the one exception to this rule: the most docile, good-hearted alpha he's ever met. But this is a lie. You do have a predator instinct, and it comes out in full-force whenever youâre around these particular types of men. These types who notice Aventurineâs eyes and see a thief; these monsters who see his irises and imagine what it would be like to bed him. Youâd kill them if you could. It would be so easy, especially now that you are an IPC dog. The Company is already such a violent force; what would be one more murder?
But Aventurine has never ordered you to punish anyone. (Don't do anything stupid, he always tells you with a glance, smiling through every humiliation.) Nor has he ever seemed bothered enough by these meetings to try concealing his heritage.
A fellow Asset Liquidation Specialist once asked why he didn't just hide his eye colourâit would likely be better for fostering relationships, negotiating dealsâbut Aventurine had shrugged it off. I'm a gambler working with the IPC, he'd said. Do you really think a pair of coloured contacts would make anyone trust me? He'd laughed, and his voice had carried a threatening edge, and his coworker had shifted visibly at it. Being an Avgin is the least threatening thing about me, wouldn't you say?
You think that Aventurine likes being seen as a threat. Sometimes you wonder if this is why he doesn't mind wearing his eyes so much, but abhors keeping his scent. He washes his clothes until they're free of his disarming sweetness and then masks himself with an unsettling blend of ambergris, jasmine, and wood. And he is on suppressants all the timeâhasnât had a single heat since the day he killed his master. Hasn't smelled like himself, either.
At the end of the day, itâs manageable being an Avgin in this business, he often comments, spraying half a bottle of masking cologne on himself, but you can't be an Avgin and an omega. Wouldnât you agree?
You'd know better than me, you reply, noncommittallyâand truthfully.
But you're an alpha, he observes. Don't you have an opinion?
You don't pay me to have opinions, you always remind him, stone-faced. You pay me to stand here and look scary. And Aventurine always laughs at this, and he always wires you money and calls it a bonus as he pesters you for an answer, and he always gets distracted and starts scrolling through all his shopping wishlists instead. I saw this thing the other day and thought of you. And this too. Would you like either of them? Would you like them both? Iâm a very generous manager, you know. I'll buy you anything you like.
But even though he always gets distracted, Aventurine never forgets. Sooner or later, he inevitably circles back to these questionsâthese anxieties about his scent, about his eyes, about his blood. He never cares for anyone elseâs opinions, but he's always been curious about yours. Even when he was Vasha, he wanted to know what you thought.
Heâd been sixteen years old and delirious with heat the first time he asked you, face wrinkling with pain as he spilled his thoughts. It was so incoherent, so sad, you thought it must have been about a fever dream. Mama Fenge, he kept saying. Mama Fenge blessed me, She blessed me, I'm blessed, it rained when I was bornâdid you know that? My luck, I was lucky. The Katicans, they never caught me. They got everyone else, but not me. I was blessed by Her. I'm going to save my people. I will. I'll save my sister. My eyes are proof. My mistress liked them. Said they're beautiful. Worth sixty whole coppers. A blessing. He pulled you close, pressed his scalding face to your scent gland, and his whole body shuddered with relief. This was the first and only time he'd allowed you to hold him, and it was only out of desperation, out of his mind. Do you like them, alpha? Do you like my eyes? Why? Is it because they're beautiful? Because they're from Gaiathra?
âI like them because they're yours,â you'd replied, and Kakavasha had laughed deliriously.
This is when he told you he hated them: I'd close them forever, if I could.
When you were youngerâdumberâyou had a habit of squirrelling away every spare coin you came across. You collected them in a little purse that one of the omega slaves had sewn for youâa thank-you for always keeping the other alphas away from herâand you hid it underneath a loose floorboard. By the time that Kakavasha was arrested, you'd saved up twenty-nine Tanba. Youâd wanted enough to buy Kakavashaâs freedom and then to set him up for a comfortable life.
It had been a stupid plan. An embarrassing one. If you ever confessed it to Aventurine, he'd laugh at you. Slaves can't buy other slaves, he'd say. Leave the schemes to me next time. Youâre too good-hearted for it.
Youâd already known that, of course. You knew that you didn't have the status to buy him or mate him or even just provide for him, but you wanted to. God, did you want toâyou spent every waking moment thinking about it, every sleeping moment dreaming of it. It wasn't even that you desired him, though he was beautiful and fragrant and more delicate than anything that had ever touched you in your life, which was only your masterâs hands and your muzzle and your chains. Aventurine would feel so soft in comparison, youâd always figured. It made your heart ache, thinking about getting to hold something so lovely.
But reallyâthat desire came second. What came first was how mated omegas feel safe around their alphas, and you so desperately wanted him to be safe. Kakavasha had looked so frail, so grim, as your master took his chains and led him home from the market, and you could smell the fear coming off him in waves. And you could do nothing to stop it. You had nothing you could use to stop itânothing other than your hands that could kill for him and your pheromones that could soothe him and your useless heart that wanted to collect sixty Tanba for him. That was all you had.
So you failed in the end. Of course you did. You didn't have the status to buy him or mate him or even just provide for him. You couldn't even do for him the one thing you could have doneâwhich was to kill. And Kakavasha suffered for your incompetence. He had to dirty his hands with blood and gamble his way into wealth and then suddenly he was freeing you, not the other way around.
And now you are comfortable. You'll lead an easy life from now, Aventurine reassured you when he brought you onto his ship all those years ago, and he's kept that promise. What about you? you'd asked him then. Will you lead an easy life with me, if you're working for the IPC? And he had smiled and lied to you: Yes.
It had been a painfully obvious lie. If you were a smarter person, you'd have never believed it in the first place. Aventurine has no interest in leading an easy life, because an easy life would be less profitable, and less profit would mean less safety. And he is always, always worried about being unsafe. It is indiscernible to everyone but youâan alpha (his alpha, always his, even if he doesn't want you) who has watched over him for so long that you can detect every shift in his scent. No matter how much cologne he drowns himself in and no matter how strong his suppressants are, you know when he is afraid.
And here is the bitter truth, the ultimate proof of your shortcomings:
Aventurine is always afraid.
It is a beautiful day on Agnisahr, and you can tell that Aventurine is about to throw up from worry.
You're sitting in the middle of stunning wealthâAventurine in his feathers and jewellery, you in your tailored jacketâin a lobby made from marble and pale sandstone, with a view of palm trees and rolling, scarlet sand dunes beyond the window. The waitstaff addresses him as Honoured Guest and they keep his crystal chalice filled constantly with waterâone of the most expensive commodities on the planet. Aventurine has been drinking from it religiously, which is strange as he typically has the habit of forgetting to hydrate. A faint wildflower scent is drifting from his slender form. These are the only giveaway to his mood: he's otherwise as pokerfaced as ever, smiling calmly as he discusses his plans to sabotage the local government and acquire the planet for the IPC.
âThis is a very dangerous mission,â you state flatly.
âAll my missions are dangerous.â He takes a sip, one pinky up. âThe IPC pays me well for a reason. As they sayââ
ââHigh risk, high reward.â I know.â You try not to sound bitter, though you allow yourself to sound tired. âI still do not think the risk is worth the reward in this case.â
âI think over 5.6 million in credits is a great reward, actually. We could do a lot with that kind of money.â
You raise a brow. âWhat could an extra 5.6 million get you that you can't already buy?â It isâas Topaz would sayââchump changeâ in comparison to his current wealth, which sums to a number so vast that you can't wrap your head around it.
Aventurine pretends to miss the point. âTons! We could buy a new spacecraft. Get another mansion. Orâwe could take a vacation to Penacony. I hear it's quite nice there.â A playful smile. âI could get us a penthouse unit. With a featherbed.â
You frown. Sometimes Aventurine likes to flirt when you're being stubbornânot out of interest, but as a ploy to distract you. Heâd developed the habit after he joined the IPC. It used to fluster you, but now it only makes you cross your arms.
âYou could die,â you point out.
âYou'll protect me.â
âNo, I won't. You always find a way to get rid of me when things are most dangerous.â You give him an accusatory stare. âYou never let me do my job.â
He's too shameless to deny it. âAnd it's worked out fine, hasn't it? I haven't died so far.â
âYes. Just by dumb luck.â
âI beg to differ. My luck is quite reliable.â He sets down his glass. Glances back outside. A microexpression, brows knotting for the briefest second as he studies the sky. âI'm not worried.â
âYou're a shit liar.â
That gets him to look at you, letting a small frown pass over his face. âNo, I'm actually a great liar. You're just too good at reading me. It's very inconvenient, you know.â
âI can't help it.â You lean toward him, making a show of it as you sniff. An orchid-like scentâfaint but unmistakableâhas seeped into artificial ambergris and wood. âIt's hard to ignore.â
He hums. He isn't frowning anymoreâbut doesn't look happy, either. âI should change suppressants.â He taps the side of his empty glass, fidgeting. Aventurine never fidgets: it's an amateur giveaway. âThese ones clearly don't work well enough.â
âThat won't help. I know you too well.â Your eyes soften. He's looking outside again, the blues of his irises distant. âYou're worried, Aventurine. More than usual. Letâs back out of thisâlet Jade handle it.â
âThe mission isn't what's bothering me,â he says patiently. âI just don't like this planet.â
âBecause you can tell it's dangerous.â
âNo. Wellâit is, but nothing I can't handle.â He leans back. âI just dislike the weather here.â
You arch a brow. â...the weather?â
âYes,â he says neatly, âit's too dry here. I'll break out.â
You open your mouth. Close it. It is possibly the most absurd thing you've ever heard, and certainly the worst lie that's ever come from him. For as long as you've known him, Aventurine has had flawless skin, marble-smooth, and ever since being freed, heâs never really cared much for looking handsome so much as looking rich. But he maintains his serious expression: all-in on the farce. âDid you know that outside the capital, this planet hasn't had any natural rain in a quarter of an Amber Era? And the stellar winds are terrible. I don't know how people live on a planet like this.â His eyes narrow at the cloudless sky. âThe IPC is going to need to do a lot of terraforming if they want to make this into a merchant hub.â
âAventurine.â
âIt'll be a pain crossing the desertâthe elements will ruin my clothes, you know,â he continues. âIt won't be so bad while we're on the ships, but weâve got to go outside from time to time. Can't make any friends otherwise.â
âAventurine.â
âAnd there's nothing to do for fun when weâre not working.â He sighs dramatically. âI can't wait to get our 5.6 billion and leave for someplace else. I'm being serious about Penacony, by the wayââ
âAventurine.â
ââthough not about the featherbed. I'll get you your own room, obviously. And I'll buy whatever dream experience youâd like. What kind would you want?â
Finally allowed a chance to speak, you say, âOne where you retire.â
âRetire? Why would I ever do that?â
âI don't know. Maybe you decide you've made enough money.â
âNo such thing.â
âThen you can settle down with someone.â
That makes him smile. It feels mocking. âMe? Settling down? With who?â
âWho knows. Someone who will treat you better than the IPC, I hope.â
âAnyone that nice would run in the other direction. But never mind me. This would be your dream experience. What happens to you in it?â
âI stop chasing after you and get to live out the rest of my days in peace,â you say dryly, and Aventurine blinks. âPlease stop deflecting. The IPC gave you a suicide mission. We will both die if we stay here.â
He looks serious now. âI wouldn't let you die.â
âYou can't know that.â
âWell, I do. And I've got decent chances at surviving tooâat least one in ten.â
You feel like sighingâa deep, aggravated noise is heavy in your throatâbut Aventurine doesn't enjoy it when you show anger around him. It's the one omega instinct that he can't ignore, you suppose: unease around an aggressive alpha. Voice tightly controlled, you say, âYouâre going to bet your life on one in ten?â
âSure. My chances were worse on the last planet, and things worked out great. It'll be the same on Agnisahr.â Aventurine raises a hand, calls for the bill. The conversation is over. You lean back in your seat, watching sourly as he pays tens of thousands of credits just for water.
âYou know, they say the royal family is backed by an Aeon,â you can't help but point out, once the waiter is gone. A last-ditch effort. Aventurine smiles at it, amused. Like you're a child.
âSo what?â He glances outside, at the desolate landscape beyond the oasisânothing but red sand, a blue, rainless sky, and two radiant suns shining above it all. âThe protection of a god is nothing compared to the schemes of human beings. And gods abandon their people all the time, anyway.â
During your tenth day on Agnisahr, you realise that something is deeply wrong.
It takes you some time to understand whatâs happening. At first you think that whatever political danger youâve intuited is much worse than you thought, and thatâs why Aventurine has been so pale, so discomforted, so exhausted. Then his scent starts changingâhe switches clothes two, three times a day (because of all this heat during Agnisahran days, he tells his new business associates) and spritzes his nape with his cologne almost religiouslyâand you wonder if he is sick with something. If the food in this planet has something that disagrees with his Sigonian biology, or if he has picked up one of the local filoviruses, or if someoneâs poisoned one of his meals because theyâve correctly identified him as a threat. Aventurine dismisses every single one of these theories when you bring it up, andâas if in denialâonly attributes it to the weather. (Iâve never done well in deserts, he tells you, his eyes on his phone screen. I'm not used to them. It is above 300 Kelvin, and you do not see a single bead of sweat on his neck, and his cheeks are not even a little flushed.)
You only figure it out when he is too ill to get out of bed one morning and forbids all the IPC staff from coming near his hotel room. It sets off alarms immediatelyâAventurine, no matter how sick, will work and see through meetings as long as he is mentally capable of itâand so you naturally ignore his orders and check on him, using the spare key to his sleeping quarters that you're given as a policy. And as soon as the door cracks openâas soon as you step inside only to be hit with a violent, cloying sweetnessâyou realise whatâs happening and slam the door shut behind you.
âYouâre in heat,â you blurt out, and Aventurineâa shivering, panting mess on the bedâgroans in response.
âWhy are you here?â He turns toward you, still lucid enough to glare at you through the tangled mess of his hair. His voice is weak, but no less self-possessed: âI was very clearâno company today.â
âI am your personal bodyguard,â you remind him mildly. Your voice is calmâboth non-threatening and non-condescending. âThose orders donât apply to me. If things feel suspicious, I look into it. And they felt very suspicious.â Your brow knits as you study his clothes. Mulberry silk clings to his form, soaked through with sweat. Thin, eucalyptus sheets are tangled up around him. There are only two pillows. No water bottles. No knotting toys.
Nothing.
âYou didn't know you'd be in heat,â you realise. âWhat happened to your suppressants?â
âI don't know.â Thereâs a quiet, frustrated edge to his voice. Vulnerable too. It makes you think of when you were both still slaves, and Aventurine was confined to the basement of the manorâthe one that all omega slaves were made to ride out their heats in. Either they would do it alone or were ordered to spend it with some alpha, usually either a friend of the master or an alpha slave he wished to reward. That's when they're most pliable, he'd tell his guests, or sometimes even you. They get so desperate they'll present themselves to anyone. Then amused laughter from the other partyâHow obscene!âas you looked away, blood hammering in your ears.
You had been your masterâs favourite. His most obedient, most profitable petâstriking enough for his guests to admire, deadly enough for his audiences to bet on, docile enough for him to enjoy. Good enough for him to reward, and he often rewarded you with his most beautiful slave: his Avgin omega. Just don't mark him, heâd said, fastening the muzzle around your mouth. It'll ruin his market value. Who knows if someday he'd sell Kakavasha off to some alpha master who wished to claim him, he said. Though I don't think there's anyone in this star system who'd want a Sigonian for a mate, let alone a Sigonian slave. Then heâd paused, eyes scanning over you. As if contemplating. But maybe they'd try to get Avgin whelps out of him, he added, and you felt like throwing up.
You'd never mate him in those moments, your muzzle always prevented you from saying. You didn't even want to think about touching him, and he didn't want to think about it either. Even in the cruel grip of his heats, with nothing but the thin mat beneath him and his slaveâs rags around him, Kakavasha hadn't wanted any kind of contact from you, rejecting any chance of solace. Don't, don'tânot again, not again, he'd begged. Then as the nights marched on and his mind grew hazier, heâd start whimpering too: It hurts, alpha. It hurts. Help me. It hurts. Don't touch me. Not again. It hurts. It hurts. Stop it, please stop it.
It gutted you.
It went against every instinct, not to touch him. To let him lie there, in scorching, lonely pain, when all you wanted to do was to dispel it. It would be so easy to press yourself against him and let his skin cool against yours, do the one thing that your body was good at other than killing. But not again, not again, I can't anymore, I don't want it, I never wanted it, and all you could do was sit there, unmoving. Watch as the most delicate, precious thing you had in your life shatter.
And standing here now, watching Aventurine shatter before you once moreâit is unbearable. He needs a nest, you keep thinking. He needs a nest and some water and some kind of touch, some kind of relief, but not again, not again, and youâre still a slave, still a worthless and stupid slave, and Kakavasha is still crying on a basement floor and you can't do anything for him.
âYou need help, Aventurine,â you say, voice soft, and his whole body tenses. His scent dips, and the scent of florals overwhelms you.
âNo,â he breathes, âI don't.â
âYou do. You're sick.â You bite your lip. Your heart splits as you suggest it, but you say, âI can call a professional.â
âNo,â he spits. The facade is gone. The poker face has cracked. The anger and the pain and the fear are all on full display, and his voice sharpens: âNo strangers.â
No foreign scents, you realise he's demanding. A new scent would probably make him feel unsafe.
Then let me help you, you think of pleading, but not again, not again, and you're filled with so much shame at the thought that all you can do is look away.
âThenâcan I do anything?â He goes still. âNotânot that, but something to make you more comfortable. I can build you a nest, at leastââ
âNo.â He takes a deep, shaking breath. âNo nests. I don't need oneââ
âYes, you do.â
âNo, I don't,â he says. His voice is wavering now, on the verge of crumbling with fever and pain. âI've neverâIâve never needed a nest, I don'tâI don't want toââ He presses his face into his pillow. âI needâI need to be alone, fuckââ
He doesn't mean to whine. The cry for distress is instinct, something that all omegas are programmed to do in heat. Youâve heard that theyâve evolved to make this noise as a way of appealing to nearby alphas for help, but you think this must be a lie as you never once saw your alpha master giving mercy to any of his omega slaves. Still, whether it is your biology or notâthe noise that Aventurine makes has your heart aching so much you can't help but step forward. But he shakes his head and inches away, shuddering violently, and then his voice echoes again in that cold basementânot again, not again, and don't touch it anymore, don't use it anymore, don't use me anymore, not again, and it's all you can do to back away until your spine is pressed against the door.
âI'm sorry, Vasha,â you say, strained. âIâm sorry. I'll leave you now.â
As the door shuts behind you, you catch a final glimpse himâface pressed into the pillows, shivering.
If you didn't know better, you'd think he was crying.
When you were both slaves, Aventurine hated seeing you during his heats.
Kakavasha was normally calm around you. Most of the time, he was even friendly (he was friendly to everyone whom he thought could be useful), but he was different during his heats. Sometimes he was vicious; mostly he was withdrawn. Nearly always, he wanted to be left alone. In those moments, all he could register was your alpha scent and his memories of what other people had done to him during his heats. And while you'd have hated to leave him, despised the idea of him being offered to another alphaâeven more than that, you hated violating this boundary of his. Hated that you were allowed to do whatever you wanted to him. Hated being the reason he felt so unsafe.
Hated being an alpha.
Now that you no longer have the orders of your slavemaster hanging over you, it is the least you can do to respect Aventurineâs wish of being left alone. He has every right to privacy, and you have every obligation to give it to him. But instead you have been standing here, outside his door, for a full system-hour.
Every time you try to leave, your body is wracked with anxiety. The thought of other peopleâother alphasâcoming near him in this state makes you seethe, your hands flexing at your side. The predator instinct comes out, and the people around you notice it. Every person unlucky enough to walk down this hall scurries away under your glare, even the other IPC staff wandering about to look for Aventurine: Must be their mate on the other side, they remark to one another, and then they're gone.
It is a hard thing to hear. You are not his mate. You are not even a heat partner. If you were, then he wouldn't be in so much pain. Not now, and not back then.
Aventurine has never had easy heats. You keep replaying your memories of all his past ones, each one a wound in your heart: the aching sweetness of nectar and honey; his withering body as he clutched his abdomen and curled up; the tears and sweat staining the mat beneath him. And above all: the fear. The scent of it, the sight of it, the sound of it in his voice. Stronger today than any other day.
By instinct, you know that he cannot persist like this. That this time is somehow worse than all those other times, and that he will become seriously ill if left alone.
After nearly an hour and a half, you finally open the door, fearing the worst.
âAventurine?â you say quietly, but there's no response, and your stomach drops as you see him.
His body is pale, listless. If it weren't for the fragrance washing over you or the sweat on his temple, you'd worry that he was dead.
Tentatively, you reach out. Rest a hand on his forehead, and it scorches you. He stirs at the touch, doesn't open his eyesâbut the quiet sigh of relief is unmistakable. His fingers twitch, as if wanting to reach for you.
âAventurine,â you say gently. âAventurine, I'm going to take care of you. Is that alright?â
He doesn't respond. You grimace, pulling away to fetch things for him: several spare pillows from the closet, an extra blanket too. From his suitcase, you grab a few of his sweaters, all thick cotton and fleece. Heâd had a sense that Agnisahr would be cold at night. Deserts always get cold after sundown, since sand doesnât retain heat, he'd told you while he was packing. Or I think so, anyway. Don't know why. Must have read it somewhere. Then heâd given you a long, unreadable look before saying, Make sure to bring a jacket. The warmest one you have. The elements on a planet like Agnisahr can kill a personâeven a person like you.
Iâm sure Iâll be fine, youâd dismissed him. I can survive anything. Any kind of weather, any kind of illness, any kind of pain: these are all things your species is known for being able to endure, the trait that made you such a prized slave in your masterâs eyes, such a useful agent at the IPC. You hadnât given Aventurineâs warning any thought and hardly paid attention to what youâd thrown into your own suitcase.
It surprises you, then, that you find one of your sweaters in his luggage. Made from Sedanian cashmere and heat tech designed by the Intelligentsia Guild. Cloud-soft and warm to the touch. Aventurine had bought it for you before you were deployed to Jarilo-IV to collect intelligence for Topaz. Warmest thing in the known universe, heâd commented. One of a kind, too. Remember to wear it, alright? Don't let my money go to waste, now.
You stare at it, kneading the fleece between your fingers. You hadnât mentioned wanting to bring this sweater. Youâd lost it in your closet some months ago and forgot about it. Aventurine must have remembered and gone looking for it, becauseâwhy? You aren't sure. Probably because itâs warmer and softer than anything he owns, you guess. Of course heâd want to wear it.
You throw it into the pile of things youâve collected for him.
You take it all to his bed, the mattress dipping as you sit next to Aventurine. One by one, you scent each item with your wrist, watching him carefully the whole time. Youâre quiet as you lay them out around him, leaving him undisturbed as you build a nest. You order water and electrolyte drinks too, and youâre quick about going to the door when you hear room service knockingâwith how feverish he is, he probably badly needs it.
Aventurine is awake when you come back. His breathing is still laboured, painedâbut calm.
âI said I didnât need a nest,â Aventurine says, though he doesnât sound angry. You wonder if heâs too weak to be. His voice is faint, and his eyes are barely openâfocused on the pile of blankets and clothing around him.
âYouâre welcome.â You open a bottle of water, hold it out to him. âDrink.â
Aventurine pauses, stares at the offering like it's some kind of foreign object. But he accepts it eventually, sitting up and taking it from you. He winces with the movement, which he tries to hide. He ignores your frown as he drinks, and he doesn't stop until the bottle is empty.
âThere are more,â you say, pointing at the several additional bottles on the nightstand. âAnd some food and some painkillers. I don't know how well theyâll work. This isn't a normal heat. If you're alright with it, I'll call a doctor andââ
âEverything smells like you,â he says quietly, and you stop.
â...yes. Unless theyâre mated, nests usually feel most comforting to an omega when they smell like an alpha.â You swallow, looking away. â...you don't have a mate, and you didn't want a professional, so this was the only option I could think of. I'm sorry.â
âItâs fine,â he says. He picks out one of the sweaters that have made its way into the nest, the Sedanian one. âI don't mind it.â
âOh.â You let out a breath. âThenâcan I call a doctor?â
His grip on the sweater tightens. âNo.â
You frown. âAventurineââ
âIâve never needed a doctor before,â he says. He sounds unbothered, but he's fidgeting with the sweater now. âI don't need one now.â
A lie. He almost certainly needed a doctor in some of his prior heats, but you don't push the matter. âMaybe you don't need one,â you say instead, âbut it would help.â
âI don't need help,â he says, and you look at him in disbelief. He catches your expression, and the corner of his mouth lifts. âNot more than you've already done, I mean.â
âIâve barelyââ
âContact Topaz. Tell her I'm incapacitated. Tell herâŚâ He hums. âTell her I have food poisoning. The personnel too. It's not time-sensitive, our business on Agnisahr, so it shouldn't matter if I need a few days off.â
âYou really needââ
âGive my regrets to our Agnisahran friends. Deliver it in person. They see you as my right hand, so theyâll most appreciate it coming from you. Topaz can help you with the verbiage. Andâtry to socialise with them a little, won't you? I think that little omega princess of theirs likes you. Some of the courtesans too, and they have surprising influence.â
âI do not want to be around any omega other than you right now,â you say before you can stop yourself, and Aventurine stops, blinking. His expression is blank, if perhaps a little curiousâbut his scent shifts. You can't identify how. You add quickly, âIâm not leaving you alone when youâre this sick.â
âAh. Right.â Aventurine looks away. His voice sounds strange, and his heat must be getting to him again, because it carries a hint of pain. âBut you have to. The IPCâs goals take priority.â
You frown. âYour life is more important than the IPC,â you say, and he laughs. Loudly.
âWhat? This is just a heat. Iâm not going to die.â
âYou donât know that without seeing a doctor.â
âI do. Iâm willing to bet money that I wonât die.â He cuts you off before you can reply: yes, you're always willing to bet on your life. âAnd even if I do, that would still be less important than Agnisahr. Do you know how many resources are on this lifeless rock?â His mouth slants. âIf we mess up here, Iâm dead anyway.â
âI wouldnât let them touch you.â
âYes, you wouldâbecause they would kill you too.â Aventurine sighs. His eyes close, and his brow creasesâa sign that whatever reprieve he was lucky enough to get is about to end. âGo do what I asked. Donât do anything stupid. Iâll⌠see a doctor if you do.â
You stand immediately. âAlright. Iâll be back to check on you.â
âI know.â
You stop at the door, giving him a long look. Seeing him like thisâlying on a proper bed, cradled in a warm nest, with water and food and medicine nearbyâyou feel a little better. This is leagues beyond what heâd been afforded in his days as a slave, at the very least. Even if he isnât free, at least he isnât trapped.
But it still doesnât feel good, having to step away. The last thing you want to do is talk to other people, pretend to have interest in other omegas. There are an astonishing number of them who are interested in you on this planetâthat princess, and some baronâs son, and one of the princeâs favourite paramoursâbut you canât bring yourself to care even for business purposes when Aventurine is like this. You can't act as if you are enjoying yourself when you know he is in pain.
You wonder about telling Topaz the truth. You wonder if sheâd be worried enough about Aventurine to let you neglect this mission and cover for you instead, without letting Jade or Diamond or anyone else dangerous know. Not that you think that anyone at the Company particularly cares about Kakavashaâitâs only that heâs valuable. Aventurine of Stratagems is valuable. How many worlds have fallen because of him?
But he seemed unwilling to bet on his worth to them. Which is startling, given how often he's bet on it in the past.
âWhatâs so important about this planet,â you canât help but ask, âthat the IPC would rather you die than lose it?â
Heâs silent for a long moment. His eyes are closedâhiddenâbut you can see his knuckles whiten as he clutches the Sedanian sweater.
âCopper,â he says. âThey want it for the copper.â
When Kakavasha first suggested a friendship to you, it had felt like something in between a proposition and a threat:
Go ahead, he'd said. Use me as you wish. You can even stab me in the back if you want. Just be mindful of this: I don't make deals that don't pay off.
It might have been a strange way of making friends in any other circumstance, but in a house of slaves, it was a natural one. You had not been a clever personâstill aren'tâbut you understood that your place in the world was one of a tool. This was the place of all slaves: you were all things to be used. Your body was a thing to be used. It was valuable for its strength, for its hardiness, for its threat in the arena and for its convenience in your masterâs bed (or in a dark basement, or within a heat house, or inside whichever omega your mistress ordered you to calm down). It did not surprise you that Kakavasha wanted to use it as well. It did not surprise you that Kakavasha expected you to use him in return.
You never would have, of course. Kakavasha was not a thing to be usedâhe had always been a mate. Though you were happy to let him use you, because all you were was a tool anyway, so it was really all you could offer him: to be used.
None of this has changed for you. You don't think any of this has changed for Aventurine, either. With each new friendship he makes, he repeats those familiar words: Use me as you wish. And with each person who accepts, this is exactly what they do: they use him, and they use him, and they use him until suddenly they notice he's tricked them and they've got the losing hand.
You damned gambler, they always spit. You Sigonian wretch. All you know is how to manipulate people. Thief, liar, cheat, whore. Despite all these insults, Aventurine always smiles at them. Cry as they might, heâs won his bet and has their world in his palms.
Winner takes all, he sometimes gloats.
Winning and losing. Using and being used. Exploitation and treachery. This is all Aventurine knows; these are his great guiding principles in life. (He's told you this point blank, stacking up chips in his favourite gambling dens with a self-satisfied grin.) You often find yourself coming back to these conversations, particularly when you need to convince him of something.
And right now, you very badly need to convince him of something.
Aventurine is ignoring his doctorâs advice. His suppressants are unstable in extreme temperatures, he's been told. During travel on Agnisahr, they'd degraded, and now heâs experiencing his first heat in several years. Of course it's going to be painful, his doctor had said. I can prescribe you some medication to ease the symptoms, but reallyânothing will work better than a heat partner. It doesn't need to be a mate. Any alpha will do.
The doctor had been an alpha. You had asked for a beta or omega, but alphas tend to dominate in Interastral Medical Schools, so they're in short supply. Aventurine had been still the whole time, face unreadable, but you could tell he wanted to throw up at the stench of an unfamiliar alpha. You had stepped between the two of them, not bothering to hide the animosity in your voice. Weâll take the medication, you had said, and the doctor had sniffed the air and nodded at you in approval.
Probably won't need it. An alpha like you could sort him out with just a few rounds, he told you, and both of you stayed quiet as he left.
You still aren't talking, or even looking at each other. Aventurine has lay down in his nest again, closing his eyes, while you stand as far away as physically possibleâat the door where you'd just shown the doctor out. With the room shut off again, windows closed and door locked, Aventurineâs scent is starting to flood your senses once more. Out of the corner of your eye, you catch him shivering.
âWhat do you want to do?â you ask.
âNothing.â He swallows. âI'll be fine.â
He's afraid. You can tell he's afraid. And you can tell heâll be more afraid if you take even a single step closer to him, so you nod and say, âI'll go pick up your medication, then,â and Aventurine doesn't stop you. You can see him curling up in his nest, face pressed into the cashmere sweater.
But he still doesn't stop you.
After a few more days, Aventurine finally breaks.
There is a rare sag to his shoulders when he calls you to the room, along with a taste of dread in the air. You haven't seen him so vulnerable in years. Aventurine is not an open person, so cunning and self-possessed in his wealthâbut Kakavasha was more brittle, more powerless, flayed raw and open even though he didn't often get the whip. (It would ruin his value if he ever scarredâhis looks were his greatest selling point, your master said.) He was especially defeated when forced to spend his heats with an alpha he didn't want. You wonder, a vice grip of pain around your heart, whether this entire situation is simply an extension of that. Whether he is calling you here against his will, this time compelled by his pain, rather than his master. Whether this luxury suite feels like that wretched basement to him.
He doesn't look at you when he talks, nor does he sit up. He remains curled in his nest, nearly clinging onto the blankets and clothes.
âThat stupid medication,â he pants out, sharp even in his heat, âisn't working.â
âI can tell.â Your brow knots. Heâs in so much pain, it is palpable. âIââyou hesitate, voice dropping. âCan I help you?â
He goes quiet. As both Aventurine and Kakavasha, he has always been disinclined to accept help from other people. There is no such thing as unconditional help in his mindâonly leverage and weakness. He hates it when people have leverage over him, and he hates being weak. Both are things that can be exploited, and Aventurine always needs to be the one doing the exploiting. He always needs to be in control.
Even like this, the last threads of his sanity about to snap, with every circuit of his omega biology trying to drag him into insensible lust, he fights viciously to be in control.
Winning and losing. Using and being used. Exploitation and treachery. Control and being controlled. This is how he's always lived. This is how he's always survived.
This is the only way to let him maintain control when he is most afraid of losing it.
âI don't mind,â you say quietly, âif you use me.â
Even through the haze of heat, Aventurineâs eyes sharpen. âWhat?â
âI don't mind if you use me,â you repeat, voice neutral. Unfeeling. The proposal might sound cruel to someone else, but not you. After allâyour place in the world is one of a tool, and this is what you've always done as an alpha and a slave: sleeping with people to take care of their needs, or sometimes just their desires. It did always make you feel strangely hollow, but you think it will feel just fine with Aventurine. All you've ever wanted to do is keep him safe, and surely, this will do that, butâ
âI'll only help if you want. I don't want to force it.â You lower your eyes. âBut if you do want it, I'll be careful with you. You can lead. I promise.â
â...I know.â Aventurineâs voice is weak, cracks with pain, but you can tell he's speaking with clarity. âI know you will be.â
You look up. âThen you'll let me help?â
Aventurine looks awayâa sign that he cannot adopt his usual smile. Heâs clutching that sweater again, pressed close to his chest.
âJust your wrist,â he says quietly.
You listen carefully. âWhat?â
âI justâI just want your wrist.â He looks away. âYourâyour scent gland. Only that.â
âOkay.â
You get up, then falter. When it was your job to comfort your mistressâ omega slaves, you were told to enter their nestsâno permission needed from them, no permission needed from you, because only her permission ever mattered for anything. The omegas were usually too delirious to care, often had even begged for it with the state of mind that they were in. But Aventurine is different. He's not like you, and he's not like them. He's never bent to any of his mastersâ wills. And even if he did, you wouldn't want to have him bend to yours.
Instead of climbing into his nest, you ask, âCan I sit on the bed?â He doesn't answer. âJust the edge of it,â you add, and you hear him exhale.
âFine,â he says, breathing measured.
âThank you,â you say, and he gives you a confused look. But then you're reaching out with a hand, offering it, and he is quickly distracted.
Aventurine drops the sweater, grabs your hand almost immediately. He turns over your palms, fingers tracing your heartlinesâas if testing you, as if mapping out territory. He runs his thumbs along the veins of your wrists, too, right over your scent gland, and you have to force yourself not to shudder at the feeling. You only stay still, letting him explore the contours of your hands, letting him acclimate to the feeling of your skin. He laces his fingers with your own, a latticework trap, and he finally drags his wrist along yours.
Both of you inhale sharply.
You can't react. You know it'll scare him if you do, but it's hard to keep still. The way his scent blossoms, the way it mingles with yours, the way it all washes over youâwhat you're doing can hardly be called touching, but you feel like you're going mad. Especially when he flushes like that, his vibrant eyes fluttering shut. Especially when the sweetness of honey overtakes your senses. Especially when you can smell the way his body is reacting, all that wetness and heat and slick dripping between his legs. You don't miss the way his thighs rub together, nor the hard outline of his cock straining against his pants.
Aventurine shudders. He brings your hand up to his face, rests his cheek in your palm. His skin is flushed and burning with fever, and it's no wonder that he's sighing with relief at your touch. You try not to stare at the way his mouth falls open. He looks at you for a moment, his gaze a hazy violet and blueâbefore he closes his eyes again and presses his lips into your wrist.
Fuck.
âAventurineââ You have to stop, voice strangled, when you feel the full softness of his lips working against your skin. Heâs panting now, laboured breaths sweeping over your veins. Then you feel his teeth catch, a gentle nip on your flesh, and when he groans into your racing pulseâdeep, relieved, desperate, a noise that makes your gut flare with heatâyou realise you can't do this.
You pull back your hand, and Aventurine startles.
âAventurine,â you say, voice strained. Maybe we should stop, you want to say, but he cuts you off.
âI needââa shaky breathââI need more.â
You watch Aventurine carefully. His pupils are dilated, blue irises nearly eclipsed. His cheeks are rosy, and he can't stop panting. You can fully smell his arousal now, even through his silk clothes. He's desperate, needing to be filled.
But he also looks torn. His brows are knotted, and you can taste a faint hint of fear in the air now. His knuckles clutch at the sheets, almost white, and he stares at them. He can't look up. He can't look at you. His whole body is tense, like he wants to boltâand if he weren't so weak, you think he might actually.
âAre you sure?â you ask.
He doesn't nod. He also doesn't shake his head. His arms clutch at his midsection as he winces. He doesn't look like Aventurine. He looks like Kakavasha. It makes your heart ache as you watch him give into his bodyâs demands, wearing the same expression he did on the day your master bought him.
â...don't use your Voice on me,â AventurineâKakavashaâsays quietly.
It takes you a moment to realise what he's asking. âI won't.â
âAndââhis eyes somehow grow even more evasive, hidden by his long lashesâ âdonât touch my commodity code.â
His commodity code. His commodity code that is seared into his scent gland. His code that, if you kiss, will ease his agony instantly. His code that, if you biteâwill chain him to you irreversibly.
âOf course I won't,â you say instantly.
He closes his eyes. Takes a deep breath.
âAndââ Aventurine looks away, jaw tight. His voice is quiet but wrought with tension: ââI don't like when people put things inside me.â
Something claws the walls of your heart.
âThat's fine too,â you reply. âI don't mind doing it the other way.â
Aventurineâs sigh is nearly inaudible, but unmistakable. His scent shifts a little bit, the wildflower fragrance fading ever so slightly. But he doesn't come to you. He merely sits thereâwaiting. Expecting. Maybe dreading. Even in the senseless daze of heat, heâs too anxious to move.
You approach slowly. Though you're overwhelmed by the bouquet of his scent, though you feel a curl of heat in your belly in response to itâyou are slow. Alphas are supposedly victims of insatiable lust whenever around an omega in heat, absolved of every action they take, but you are convinced this is a lie. You have never once wanted to handle Aventurine with such cruelty. You think that inflicting violence on him, more than anything else, would go against your biology. Every molecule in your body would reject putting him in such pain or inciting such fear. So you are careful when you approach him, slow as you inch up to himâbut you do not think it helps.
Aventurine lies down, his face turned away from yours. His eyes squeeze shut, like he's expecting this to hurt. Uncertainty gnaws at your gut as you lean over him, draping your body over hisâthe only position you've ever taken an omega in, other than mounting them from behind.
(You do not want to mount Aventurine. You never have. It is an impersonal position, a position that omega biology supposedly would force him to enjoy, a position that alphas have likely dictated him to enjoy. You think there is nothing you would hate more. In your weakest, most selfish moments, in your worst ruts, when youâve allowed yourself to fantasise about mating Kakavashaâyou are always facing each other, and he is always looking at you with his eyes you've always loved, and it always feels intimate. Never impersonal. Never dictated. Never forced.)
Aventurine is so honeysweet beneath you. More fragrant than any omega youâve ever been with. You glance at his commodity code, trying to ignore the scent of his branded skin, then lean down to press your face against the other side of his neck, where a faint scar mars the otherwise flawless slope of his nape. Like every other omega slave you've ever slept with, the scent gland there has been excised: a precautionary measure to reduce the risk of an unwanted mating bite.
(Not unwanted by themâthe wants of a slave never matterâbut unwanted by their owners. A mating bite would ruin the code seared into their neck, claim an omega more deeply and permanently than any titanium collar or carbon steel chain. It would hurt their resale value. Only owners are allowed to claim slaves in such a permanent wayâand the wants of a slave have no relevance there, either.)
It's a funny thing, this surgical scar. Even with their gland missing, you've noticed that most omegas like having their neck scented by you anyway, probably from some vestigial instinct. You guess that Aventurine won't be any different, that maybe it will comfort him. But when your lips skim the scar left on him by his owner, his entire body stiffens beneath you. His fragrance cuts into your lungs, sharp.
You recoil, as if burned by the touch of him.
âSorry,â Aventurine is quick to say. He tries to glance at you, but his diamond pupils quickly avoid you again. âDonât worry about me. Just do whatever you need to do.â
âBut you're scared,â you point out, and you see his brow twitch. âYouâre scared when I touch you.â
âNot scared,â he lies. âJustâŚâ
When his eyes finally look at youâland on your lipsâyou understand.
A bite would claim an omega more deeply and permanently than any titanium collar or carbon steel chain. If you lost your mindâgive into the insatiable lust of an alpha whenever around an omega in heatâyou might bite him, and then you would own Aventurine.
And Aventurine would rather die than be owned by anyone again.
He doesn't need to finish his sentence. You already know what you need to do.
âIt's okay,â you say gently, and his brow knots. âI have an idea.â
Aventurine is always afraid.
This is a fact that has haunted you since the day you met him. You've wondered about how to fix itâthe bare minimum as his mate (always his, even if he doesn't want you)âand youâve never quite pinned down how. Because when someone has spent their life in perpetual fear, how do you make them feel safe? When their life is constantly at risk, how do you ever make them feel calm?
You still aren't sure of the answer. But after seeing Kakavasha become Aventurine, you now have a good guess.
It is clear from his scent that Aventurine does not feel remotely safe right now. Not when you leave to fetch something from your own room, and not when you return. The anxiety thickens when he sees, in your hands, a very familiar muzzle.
Aventurine stares. He is not smiling, but he also does not reveal his discomfort on his face, even as beads of sweat line his temple. But his voice is too controlled, too calm, when he asks, âYou kept the mask.â
You nod.
âI told you to throw it out,â he points out, âwhen I freed you.â
âI know. Sorry. I don't know why I kept it.â You remember how tightly you clutched it before the incinerator, thinking about how strange it would feel, discarding something that you'd worn everyday since you presentedâbut you don't tell him this. Instead, you say, âBut itâs convenient.â
Before Aventurine can say anything, you toss him the remote.
âYouâre afraid of my bite and my Voice, but you don't have to be with this,â you explain. Your tone is gentle, soothing. Probably disarming coming from an alpha, with how he is in heat. Perhaps that's why heâs studying the remote rather than chucking it away. âYou'll be in full control if I wear this.â
Control. Mere seconds after you say it, you can smell his fragrance change again, mellowing. It's only a brief moment of calm that fades when you latch the mask onto your face, but he doesn't smell as nearly as stressed before.
Aventurine watches you carefully as the carbon steel swallows your maw, its old and familiar edges biting into you. For the first time in years, you cannot tell what he is thinkingâtruly poker-faced even to you.
âYou aren't bothered by wearing that thing while we do this,â he saysâasks?âand you shake your head. The muzzle was part of you for years. You were wearing it when you killed someone for the first time. You were wearing it when you went into rut for the first time. You were wearing it when your master had sex with you for the first time. It doesn't bother you that youâll wear it when you have sex with Aventurine.
If you could speak, you would ask him, Why do you think it would bother me? But all you do is gesture for him to sit up. To switch places with you. You lie downâsomething you've never done with an omegaâand wait for him to get on top.
Aventurine stares at you for a long, quiet moment. It's followed by a sigh of relief. Disarmed, heâfor the first time in any heat you've witnessedâfinally relaxes. His scent wafts over you as he climbs between your legs, and you can feel the heat radiating from his hands as he parts your thighs, almost scalding.
He doesn't bother getting you ready, too needy to think rationally, but he doesn't have to anyway. You've been wet ever since you felt his mouth touch your wrist, hard ever since you heard him groan into it. You're equally desperate to get some relief as you feel his cockhead sliding against your opening, leaking all over your entrance as his slick drips onto your thighs. His breath shakes as he enters you, and he can't hear it with how you're muzzledâbut you groan just as deeply as him at the tight stretch.
You hear him swear when you clench around him, watch him lean over you. His arms shake as he supports himself, refusing to succumb to his heat even as he chases his relief. You seek out his gaze (just as in your dreams, facing each other, intimate), and his neon eyes catch on your eyes for a brief, breathtaking secondâ
âbefore he looks away.
There's a flash ofâyou don't know what, maybe pain? Or fear?âin his irises as he does. A twitch of the brow, a tell he'd normally rather die than let slip. You have the realisation, as Aventurine moves inside you, that even while you're muzzled, even while he has complete control over youâhe still can't stand having sex with you. Probably because he can't stand being in heat in general, you tell yourself. Don't touch me, don't touch me, don't use it anymore, don't use me anymore. He'd have this reaction to anyone.
Stillâyou didn't expect him to have this reaction to you.
Your hands twitch, possessed by an old instinct to cover your eyes. But you'd probably scare Aventurine if you moved your arms, so all you do is dig your fingers into the sheets and squeeze them shut. You tell yourself again and again that he'd hate having sex with anyone in these circumstancesânot just you. And then you tell yourself, as a desperate, broken moan leaves his branded throat, that he would also come inside anyone in these circumstances, caught within the cruel grip of his heat.
Aventurine stills inside you as he finishes. He pants, sweat dripping down his temple as he shudders in his ecstasy, his spend hot and thick inside you. You can feel his fever break as he comes down from his high, the heat coming off his body easing into a manageable warmth.
Do you feel better, you try to say, but you can't move your mouth while your mask is on. So you wait patiently for Aventurine to come back to himself, watching him carefully as he pulls out and rolls onto the mattress beside you. He finally glances at you then. His eyes narrow once they land on you, confusion flicking through them. Then displeasure. He reaches for the remote.
To your surprise, he immediately punches in the code to unlock your muzzle. Aventurine has apparently remembered the numbers after all these years, as if the moment he freed you has been since seared into his memory.
âAre you okay?â is the first thing you say, and Aventurine gives you a confused look. Heâs still panting, dazed, so you ask, âCan I check your temperature?â And when he nods, you confirm your suspicion: he's still much too warm.
There is an ache between your legs and a strange hollow in your gut (because you aren't very experienced with receiving, you thinkâyour body likely just isn't used to the feeling of it), but you quickly forget them. All you can think of is Aventurine, and how heâs still unwell, and how you need to comfort him. The instinct is so strong that you don't even say anything as you get up, straightening out your clothes.
âAre you leaving?â Aventurine asks. His voice is neutral, completely unbothered, but the thought is so horrific to you that you turn back to him with wide eyes.
âOf course not. I'm going to get you water and medicine.â A beat. You stare at Aventurineâs eyes, then think about how he hid them from you during sex. The hollow feeling comes back, but it's mostly eclipsed by your anxiety at the next thought: â...do you want me to leave?â
âDo you want to?â
âIââ I'd rather die, you think. Being forced to leave him right now would feel like tearing out a piece of yourself. You don't know if there's an alpha in this world who could leave their mate in the middle of a heat. And even if he is unmarked, unattached to youâyou still think of yourself as his mate. (His, always his, even if he doesn't want you.) âI would prefer not to. I am your heat partner. I'm supposed to take care of you.â
You hear a quiet breath. âRight. Of course. You're always so conscientious.â Aventurine nods, as if convincing himself of something. âTry not to take too long.â
âIâll come back soon,â you promise, and the air sweetens. Encouraged, you add, voice gentle: âIâll bring that medication, and then we can have sex as many times as you need after I come back. I'll make sure you're not in any pain anymore.â You pause, studying him. âIs there anything else you need to feel better?â
His fragrance changes once more, this time in a way you don't totally recognize. âNo.â His voice sounds strange. His scent is still foreign, fluctuating, possibly hinting at some kind of pain. The heat must be getting to him againâand of course it wasn't enough, what you just did, what you can provide. He likely needs to be filled to get any kind of lasting relief, but you left him empty. âNo, that's all I want.â
You nod, forcing yourself to look calm. Ignoring the emptiness in your gut. It didn't feel bad, but you hope it'll feel better next time you have sex. You think it will. Alphas are supposed to be filled with an insatiable lust near omegas in heat, after all. And even though youâve never felt that beforeânever felt anything sleeping with all those omegas in your mistressâ houseâyou are sure you'll eventually feel it around Aventurine.
But the feeling never comes. Even though you can tell that his heat has returned by the time you're backâsweat beading his temples, laboured breaths at his lips, his bottoms now discarded, with full evidence of arousal between his legsâyou don't feel much of anything as you reach for your mask again.
âDon't,â Aventurine says, before it can clasp around your face. You give him a curious look. He explains, âDon't. I don't want to have sex again. Not yet.â
You stare at him, shifting. Uncomfortable. Uncertain. Not knowing how he wants to use you. âWhat can I do?â
He gives you a long look. âCome here. I⌠I want your scent gland.â
It's a sensible request. If there's a way to seek relief without fucking someoneâwithout fucking you, which he clearly hated doingâyou're sure Aventurine would prefer it. So you climb into his nest, holding your wrist out for him, andâ
âNo.â His voice is quiet. âI want the one on your neck.â
â...oh.â
You stand there, not sure where to move. If he wants you in his nest again, or if heâd rather do this standing. Youâre relieved when he demands, âLie down.â
You expect him to get on top of you when you do. Assume that he wants complete controlâbut he instead lies down beside you. Presses his body into yours, and then his face into your neck. His nose and lips brush against your scent gland, a full-body shudder running through him, andâ
âand now you know for a fact that it is a lie that alphas want nothing other than to fuck an omega when they're in heat. Because even like this, with his lips sweet on your neck, with the sheets soaked with his slick, with his spend leaking out of youâyou do not want to have sex with Aventurine. You only want to hold him. You only want him to keep scenting you. You only want to scent him back.
You only want him to feel safe.
You breathe in deeply, lungs flooded by honey. You think of what it felt like to hold him in that cold basement, when he was delirious with fever and pain, and you think about how different his scent is now. How much sweeter it is. How much calmer he feels.
âDo you feel better?â you ask, and he doesn't respond, but you know the answer. His hands come up to dig into your shirt, and he presses into you like you're a sweater in his nest. Silence blankets over you both, calm and warm. His laboured breath starts to improve.
He does eventually speak.
âHas anyone ever told you,â he says, âwhat you smell like?â
You stare at him. Your master used to say that you smelled good, but he'd never elaborated, and you hadn't wanted him to. âNo.â
Aventurine breathes in.
âYou smell likeââ A little sigh, shaking and feverish, leaves him. âYou smell like rain.â
Your eyebrows tick up. âRain?â
âYes. Or not just rain, butââhe pauses, next words quietââmore Iike after it rains. You smell like the desert after a rainfall.â
âOh.â You don't know what to say to that. Feeling distinctly like it's a silly question, you ask, âIs that a good scent?â
âSome would think so. Especially to people from the desert. You probably smell like a blessing to them. AlthoughâŚâ
Aventurine goes quiet again. You stare at the chandelier above you, all crystal and white gold, and wait.
âAlthough?â you prompt.
â...although I wouldn't really know,â he says. âItâs just a hunch. I bet it's why so many omegas on this planet like you.â
You couldn't care less about those other omegas. All you care about is Aventurine. âAnd?â you say. âDo you like my scent?â
His reply never comes. He just breathes deeply again, seeking relief from your neckânot intimacy. Any alphaâs scent would work; that doctor told you so. Any alphaâs touch would work, too. There are no special feelings involved here. Your place in the world is one of a tool, and tools are never especially liked nor disliked. Their value exists only in how they can be used.
You don't know why you even bothered to ask the question.
But then something strange happens: Aventurine curls against you, pressing even further into you. His lashes flutter against your pulse again; it ticks up in response, beating fast against his lips.
âI do,â he says quietly. âI do like it.â
You swallow. âBut I guess that's because you're in heat. Any alpha would smell good to you, wouldnât they?â
âNo.â His fingers dig into the fabric of your shirt. âNo, I like it because it's yours.â
You know better than to read too much into his response. Aventurine had already said it earlier: No foreign scents. He's only tolerating this whole arrangement because you don't smell unfamiliar to him. Only able to use you because you are the least threatening option.
But the words break something in youâbreak the thing that made you unable to throw out that little pouch of copper coins that you were saving up for Kakavashaâs freedom, the part of you that made you wear that carbon-steel mask for him. It is this part of you that has your eyes squeezing shut and your arms wrapping around him. You know heâll recoil, reject you, but just this onceâyou need to try.
Aventurine doesn't push you away.
He melts into you instead, inhaling deeply. Your scent gland tingles with the warmth of his breath, the feeling of his lips. He seemsâcomfortable.
You can't fathom why heâs staying in your arms. Perhaps he's simply desperate for some kind of relief from his heat, just like when you held him in the basement while he was delirious from pain. But Aventurine had spoken to you with clarity just now, and his skin doesn't feel scalding so much as warm, and his scent is so different than from that moment. So sweet and so gentle, without a trace of fear. It makes your heart squeeze. As much as you've always wanted Aventurine to feel safe, you'd never imagined that his scent would be so beautiful when he is.
It makes your heart ache. You've never held anything so lovely before, and youâve never felt so warm before, and it all makes up for how badly it hurt to let Aventurine inside you. How hollow it made you feel to let him use you. How none of that matters as long as you can keep him safe like this, because you belong to Kakavasha. You'll always belong to Kakavasha, in a fate that was chosen for you on the day you met him.
You're his, always hisâeven if heâll never want you.

I don't know, I get tired of a lot of positivity
Like yes yes, the world's wonderful and I'm so strong or whatever generic thing is being said (because it's always so generalized to the point of meaningless), but you know shit is what it is, and the only way forward is with changes I manage to make... which you're not helping with at all
And as for like... my internal mood, I'm deeply isolated, sorry if hollow platitudes don't sooth the gaping maw inside me
It is what it is, and I probably get my shit together enough to do stuff like teach out of my basement like I'd like, it's just I believe that I'll be alone in a crowd like I've always been
But positivity... I just... I kinda get sick of it. There's this guy on youtube I watch who talks about economics stuff, he's recently started doing positivity and... I just fucking know his personality enough where it's like sorry mate but I'm not interested in hearing you spout Secret light kinds off drivel
...I don't know, I suppose it boils down to this
One, I can barely fucking take in positive things said directly to me, about me. Generalizations don't help even a little... I'm a mess, I'd really like someone to toss me a life preserver instead of always tossing confetti at me while I struggle to stay afloat... doesn't help
Two, the world is a terribly imperfect place, and rather than taking a mentality of "everything will work out", I think it's important to acknowledge that sometimes good people live alone, die alone, and they never got the break they needed and slowly bled out
I think it's worth knowing that if you can't step in and help yourself, then maybe no help'll come at all
...I don't know, I suppose in the end the core of what I'm saying is a lot of positivity seems like self help tier stuff and... I get tired of that, and I see so many good people struggling and... eh... either I can at least come in and say something positive custom fit to them, or I can keep my mouth shut
Just fucking let me rot. Help or let me fester on my own, you know?
I got rid of the trailer, I maybe did something like cleaning though I can't tell... at what point will my pace on trying to make things better be good enough for people, and I'll be able to stop having people tell me to fix my life... as if I hadn't thought of that already
...everyone means well, it's just tiring
#it's like when people make you being suicidally depressed about them#I... don't really want to say some more specific details cause they might be able to pick themselves out of a line up#but it's just like... man... is this more about trying to get me in a better place; or about making you feel better#wears me out#mm tag so i can find things later#just seems impossible for people to not offer advice on things#the thing people never think of with advice; is that people living a situation often have thought about that situation a whole lot#it's like why... with my friend that's looking for theatre jobs; I don't offer a lot of advice because I figure they've done quite a bit#just kinda... offer to help the best I can and ask what they need; and then mostly just listen#it's not like I never ever say anything; it's just I try to back up advice with something concrete#like... for instance if I wanted to suggest someone do therapy; then I'm gonna be offering to help them find a therapist as best I can#cause I get that it's not like you just 'go to therapy'... getting started on things is often the hardest part#eh... keeping this as vague as possible cause I want the actions I took not the details#but when I had a friend who was someone who didn't treat them at all well#I didn't directly try to get them to leave cause I know that... it's hard; they were in deep#instead I just made sure to validate their perception of reality a whole lot#counter the literal gaslighting by just pointing out that they made sense and questioning how reasonable their partner was#and then I attempted to get them in touch with some other people so they were less isolated and had other people to validate them#and thankfully they're not with that person anymore; they're doing a great job at life and are much healthier now#...but advice... honestly I don't think I gave them much#I more asked leading questions to try and shine a light on things; or would brainstorm about what to do with various stuff#they were real stuck; and it was painful to see them stuck in such a bad situation; but... better to sit with them than push push push#it felt like if I gave them my actual advice; dump that abusive freak; they couldn't have heard me#it was easy for me to tell them the solution; but that didn't account for all the barriers to implementing that solution#in this case; many of the barriers were internal; but internal or external; barriers are barriers#I don't know... I just think sometimes you gotta be comfortable sitting with discomfort along side someone#unless you got an actual fix; and you're willing to put in the work to fix it... shut up about fixing and just be there for them#mhh... we'll take one of the only things I'm actually capable of doing instead of something more serious#if someone wants a minecraft server; I can either fucking help them set it up; or I can kinda keep my mouth shut#if I'm not helping them set it up; I can give them shit like 'that sounds cool; I bet you could do it'

â all of me
- gojo satoru x reader
you understand that some things in marriage just needs compromise. and he soon understands too, when you're at your most vulnerable and he fails to be by your side when you need him the most
genre: angst, hurt/comfort, established relationship (you're married & have a son!) argument, feral gojo, mentions of injury & blood, fluff
note: if it isn't obvious by now i'm in the mood of angst-hurt/comfort this week HEHE :)) this is longer than the usual love entry, so i hope you'll enjoy it!
a part of gojo's love entries
general masterlist
Bantering with your husband is not uncommonâin fact, it happens on daily basis.
"Satoruâ I'm talking to you!"
But having serious arguments with him is another matter entirely.
Your fists tightening at your sides, facing his unamused expression. How insufferable is he? You told him that everyday, but right now, he's truly surpassed previous levels of infuriating behavior.
"And I can hear you, sweetheart," he retorted, casting a glance your way. The term of endearment he used for you sounding almost like a sneer to your ears and you felt offended.
"I don't think you're taking this seriously," you griped, trying to calm your emotions, still balling your hands. "Someone is following our son on his way back from schoolâhow can you be this... flippant?!"
Numerous photograph of your son exiting the school building from different angles had arrived in your mailbox, and if it wasn't a creepy warning from those who placed a target on his back, then you didn't know what it was.
Satoru let out an exasperated grunt. "I'm telling you, I'll pick him up for the rest of the week. No one will lay a hand on him."
You gritted your teeth. "And I'm telling you, they're trying to make you do just that. Even morons know not to mess with youâ they're leaving hints, and you're taking the bait!"
Contrary to what you believed, Satoru felt just as worried as you upon knowing that someone might have marked his precious son, who was now six years old and had recently started attending preschool.
But this is where your approaches differ. You are always the cautious one, overanalyzing each detail, while he leans towards being impulsive, often resorting to brute force.
"Who do you think can stand a chance against me?" Satoru challenged with a real sneer this time. "Remember my words, wife, no one is going to hurt me, you or our baby. I'll end them where they stand."
"That's not the point!" you threw your hands in the air, irate. "Satoru, they're going to take advantage ofâ"
"Look, I don't want to argue with you." Satoru's gaze was hard on you, his tone clipped, and it made you stiffen. "His safety comes firstâ and you, of all people, should know I'd never let anything happen to him. You need to quit nitpicking and have a little faith in me."
"I know you are more than capable, but you are notâ!"
And then he said it, and his words piercing through you like a knifeâ
"Don't compare me to you," your husband remarked a little too coldly. "I can do things you can't. Just rest your pretty head, I'll take care of the rest."
Nevermind that he blatantly dismissed your skills as a jujutsu sorcerer, nevermind that he totally didn't listen to you at allâhe just went and made himself look like some sort unparalleled god, forgetting how much his hubris could actually take him.
And all these thoughts only made you angrier.
"So be it then." You tried desperately to hold yourself from shaking because you'd be damned if you showed it to him. "A word of advice, Satoru: beware of your arrogance."
With those words, you spun around, marching off toward your son's room, because no way in hell was you going to sleep with that obnoxious prick tonight.
But when you caught the sight of your baby scuttling away from the gap in the door, a fragment of your heart crumbled. Oh. He has seen it all.
In Gojo Satoru's mind, he is made of two things: a powerful jujutsu sorcerer and a family man.
With his immense strength, comes a certain responsibility. And with that responsibility, certain habits have formed. If you just took a few seconds to breathe and looked back throughout the past decade he'd spent with you, you'd know that in factâ
It was also his way to shield you. Satoru stands by the principle that you and his little boy must be protected at all cost, and he most certainly would pull all stops to do just that.
But frankly, he couldn't deny that he felt insulted by how defiant you were. Did you really think he would let anyone ever touch yourâhisâson? He wouldn't, they'd meet his wrath first and you should've known that.
Still, something akin to guilt nudged at his conscience as he lay alone in your shared bed that night. It felt strange not having you cuddling him. He felt empty.
. . .
None of your shampoo-scented pillow, none of your nightdresses, all of it replaced by a single photo hanging in the wall and the urn of ashesâ
Abruptly, he jerked his eyes open, shaken from the most dreadful nightmare he had experiencedâ
Of you no longer by his side.
âMama.â Your little boy looked up to you with his doe-blue eyes in the next day, his hand gripping yours. âIâll be fine.â
You were accompanying him to the preschool. While Satoru had requested Ichiji to drive him, you insisted on tagging along to keep a watchful eye as well. You'd leave your husband to pick him up later just as he wanted.
âHuh?â you turned to him, tilting your head.
âI'll stick by Uncle Ichiji's side the entire time,â he replied in a murmur. âAnd papa will be picking me up too later. If there are bad guys, they'll get him first.â
You bit your lip, feeling a wave of guilt wash over you. Your boy witnessed your outburst last night and hadn't inquired about it until now, and even then, he was trying to reassure you.
âSo⌠donât fight.â His round, cerulean eyes then darted towards you, blinking hesitantly, causing you to catch your breath.
He looks so much like Satoru. At six years old, he was the spitting image of him, except his personalityâhe took after you in that area. It was as if your son was a softer, more innocent version of him. And your heart twisted, remembering your argument last night.
Don't compare me to you.
With a sigh, you bent down to be eye-level with him and managed a smile, holding both of his little hands. âIâm sorry⌠it was just misunderstanding last night, okay? Donât worry.â
ââŚreally?â
âReally. Mama and papa were just tired,â you tried to reason, a thin smile on your face. "It's going to be okay, just like you said, yeah? Papa will beat the bad guys out there."
âWill he pull through...? If they bring a knife, and he's just there laughing, they can cut him.â
A giggle escaped your lips at your baby's innocent wonderings, easing the ache in your heart as you recalled how Satoru humored him in so many ways.
You gently poked your son in the cheek. "Nah, do you remember what he always goes on about?"
He puffed up his cheeks in response, his expression turning sour as if combing through memories of hundreds of shenanigans Satoru had instigated to recall his words. You let out a hearty chuckle, finding him so adorable.
"He's strong, he's going to win. He always does."
"Oh. Mmm." Your son scrunched up his nose cutely, before looking away and squeezing your hand. A sincerer smile bloomed in your lips, heart melting at the sight of your growing munchkin.
You will protect him. And maybe you could patch things up with Satoru later that night. Maybe yesterday you were just too paranoid.
That was the plan... at least until your son suddenly screamedâsomeone wrenching him from your grasp. Without a second thought, you reacted, flipping the attacker away from you and him.
. . . and that was the beginning of how everything started to unravel so terribly that day.
"Gojo-san...! There's been an incident!"
He got that call right after he finished some things with Yaga. Satoru teleported to the preschool right away, only to be greeted by a scene of utter chaos.
Several teachers stood outside the building, and police officers were present at the scene. It was all a blur of cursed energy until his eyes caught sight ofâ
His little boy, red-faced and obviously in fear, was clinging to Ichiji, who was frantically making calls. Some teachers gathered around him were seemingly trying to coax him to speak.
He didn't waste a second to dash towards him, tearing through the crowd.
"Are you okay? Hey, buddy, what happened?" Satoru pulled him away from Ichiji and turned him over, crouching to his level to check for any signs of injury or harm.
And upon seeing him actually here, his son's eyes immediately welled up with tears, and Satoru felt a chill run through his veins as he broke into sobs, which quickly turned into heart-wrenching wails.
"Mamaâ! F-find mamaâ!" the little boy choked out through his tears, clutching onto his shirt tightly and crumbling in his embrace, thoroughly inconsolable.
Satoru's sharp gaze quickly swept over the scene, seeking any clues, while he tightened his hold over him. It was then he noticed traces of your cursed energy mingled with blood.
They hurt you.
"Hey, kiddoâlisten to me, it's going to be alright, yeah?" Satoru said, gently pulling away to wipe away his tears, holding the boy's face tenderly in his hands. "Go with Ichiji for now, okay? I'm going to bring mama back, I promise."
He didn't need to be told twice. Your son is always obedient when it matters the most. He gave him a small nod, still shaking with tears.
"Don't worry," he flashed a reassuring smile and ruffled his hair. "I'm the strongest, remember? I'll get her back," he vowed once again. "She'll be fine. Wait for me until then, yeah?"
Ichiji was ready to leave as he had called for those in headquarters as backup in case anything were to happen again. Trusting him to keep his son safe, Satoru took off as soon as he could no longer see the sight of his son's tear-streaked face trying to watch him as the car pulled away.
"I won't repeat myselfâ where is my wife?"
Satoru wasn't playing this time. He skipped past taunts and just plain threats. These little fries, he thought.
The man he held by the throat was in a lot of distress. "Hyaaa! It's him! Please, please, let me go! I'm acting under orders!"
He then flung him across the wallâ might have added more cursed energy than necessary.
At the moment, his entire focus was on trying to locate you. He couldn't let his mind wander to anything else; in fact, he didn't permit himself to.
It didn't take him long to piece together the general location of where you were through the residual of your cursed energy. They stationed several hooligans in this abandoned warehouse to stall him, but he got rid of them quickly and he could sense that you were close by.
"It's Gojo Satoru!"
"Run! Ruuuun!"
What a pain. They picked the wrong person to mess with, and Satoru's lips curled into a manic grin as he opened his palm, pulling them inâ
"Cursed Technique Lapse: Blue."
Chaos erupted as the building collapsed around him. He hoped you would realize he was here and manage to avoid getting caught in the wreckage. He was sure you'd know though.
And true to his thoughts, soon he found youâ blasting your attacker away with a powerful kick.
Satoru thought that you were a sight to behold, really. And he was about to call out to you when he felt it.
It happened almost in an instant. The way his heart dropped to his stomach, and how his body reacted, barely whispering the incantation for Red as he shot it at something lurking behind youâ
At that moment, the only thing you were aware of was the foul stench of a curse. Time seemed to stop before the overwhelming force of Red expelled it away from you.
But before then, you experienced a searing, white-hot pain that scorched through your flesh and pierced your abdomenâ
"Y/Nâfuckâ!" The voice that came from Satoru's throat was raw and laden with panic.
He pulled you against him protectively as you collapsed, blinded by pain. He immediately felt warmth spreading across his lower bodyâyour blood was rapidly drenching his shirt, and he felt a shiver down his spine.
You held onto him tightly while suppressing your scream, feeling every bit of your strength drain away along with the dark crimson blood that poured out of you.
"âtoruâ" you managed to croak amidst the scalding pain, curling and whimpering in his hold.
"Heyâ sweetheart, pleaseâ" his voice rang in your ears, as he pressed down on your wound. His hands were shaking, and you clawed at him and groaned in agony. "I-I'm taking you back nowâ You're going to be alright, yeah?"
The wound was beyond anything you had experienced before, causing you to cry out and gasp for air. It was almost as if something fried your insides. It was hard to stay conscious.
"I've got you now. You're going to be okay." His voice was coarse, as he hurriedly carried you out. And he tried not to let the full-blown panic take over him when your body went limp in his arms, your breaths slowing, head lolling in his chest.
"You're going to be alright! You hear me, sweetheart? You're going to make it. Our babyâ he's waiting for you. I promise you, you're going to be fineâ"
Perhaps he was trying to tell that to himself, because despite the excruciating pain, a wave of reassurance washed over you.
You were in the arms of the strongest sorcerer alive, what more could you possibly afraid of?
A special grade curse. They had actually unleashed a potent curse and likely aimed at him as their final cardâuntil it veered off course and struck you, leaving a searing gash across your abdomen.
Satoru felt numb as he sat in the waiting room in his bloodied uniform. You got hurt so terribly right in front of his eyes, and all he could feel was this profound void that seemed to bore through him and pierced his soul.
He was supposed to protect you. He said it to your face that nothing and no one would touch your son, and it was in his wedding vows that he'd protect you with his life too.
And yet what happened?
If only he was faster. If only he was able to pull you to him and protect you with his infinityânone of this shit would have happened.
Seeing your face twisted in agony and smeared with blood made him feel sick to his stomach. Inside that OR, you hovered on the brink of life and death, and he was here, unable to do anything.
Satoru rested his head against the wall, feeling a sharp pain surge through his chest. He remembered waking up to your face every morning, the way your touches felt, and how you had brightened his world for the past decade. If he lost you now... he wouldn't survive it. He would wreck anything, everythingâ
"Papa!" and came his voice of reason. Satoru immediately discarded his bloodstained jacket by instinct, throwing it away before his boy could see it, with Ichiji and Megumi closely trailing behind.
His son crashed himself into him and threw his little arms around his torso, cryingâand in that very second, the thump of his heart sounded louder in his ears. Somehow it felt like a knife that twisted his insides.
"Hey, kiddo." Satoru repositioned him so that he would sit on his lap and hugged him, patting him in the back. "There, there... it's alright, yeah? Mama is inside, she'll get better soon."
Your little boy pulled away and wiped his eyes, and Satoru chuckled as he helped him blow his nose. His child was incredibly adorable, and his actions mirrored yours to such an extent that it made Satoru's heart soften.
"Mama g-got hurt trying to... tell me to g-go..." the boy suddenly said amidst his quieter sniffles. "And... she s-said... papaâ i-is strong and g-going to win..."
You believe in him. Ignoring the ache in his chest, only able to reply him with a "Yeah..."
Not long after, Shoko emerged from the operating room and informed him that the surgery had been successful, though you would likely need to have a one-week stay in the hospital for observation. He intended to move you to the VIP suite and stay the night there, but then he remembered his son, who was holding his hand.
Satoru crouched down and patted him in the head, fixing him a smile. "See? Mama is okay, but she needs to sleep here to get even better. Now you go home first with big brother Megumi, yeah?"
Your son adored Megumi and often begged you to let him stay over at his place, but this time he looked hesitant, fiddling with his little fingers. "Really? Mama will be home... soon?"
"Mm-hmm, the more she sleeps here, the faster she'll go back home, alright?"
And with that, his baby nodded and Satoru turned to Megumi with a nod. "Thank you for this, Megumi."
The boy whose life he had once saved on some sort of a whim, now grown up and shared the same concern he had for you, Fushiguro Megumi had never before witnessed his benefactor expressing such sincere gratitude for anything before.
When you came to, your body felt as heavy as lead.
The discomfort in your abdomen made you flinch, and you almost let out a groan until you turned to your side and saw him.
Satoru was asleep while sitting in the sofa next to your bed, dark circles evident under his eyes. It might have been your imagination, but his cheeks appeared to be slightly red too.
You tried to recall what had happened to you when it came backâyou urging your son to run away as you let yourself being taken away, almost escaping from that warehouse, the flash of excruciating pain, and Satoru's stricken voice.
So he must've been here since last night. Any remnants of your disagreement seemed to have vanished, seeing him there with you, barely covering himself with the blanket, with a frown still marking his forehead even in his sleep.
You wanted to reach out to him until the movement sent a sharp jab to your stomach and you cried out a bit.
In that split second, Satoru's eyes jerked open, and realizing you were awake, his gaze locked onto yours. "Y/Nâ" But your strained whimper and expression told him everything. "Does it hurt? I-I'll get Shoko, waitâ"
And then he hit the call button. Throughout it all, he kept a firm grip on your hand for reassurance. A few minutes later, Shoko arrived and examined your wound, subsequently administering painkillers to alleviate your discomfort.
"It's going to leave a scar," she explained grimly, showing the mangled skin where the curse had made its mark on you, and seeing that, Satoru clenched his fists.
Shoko sighed, empathizing with her friend's frustration. "It's going to fade with time, don't worry. You did well, Gojo. You brought her here quickly. Had you been even slightly later, there could have been an irreversible damage to her organs."
But your husband remained quiet, unable to bring himself to look at you. And after she left, you tried to finally voice your question to him.
"O-ourâ"
"He's fine," Satoru immediately answered, squeezing your hand. "Our boy is fine. I'll tell Megumi to visit laterâhe's with him."
A sigh of relief came out of you. "Thank... goodness."
But his expression seemed to fall even further after hearing your response. Satoru settled himself on the seat next to you and lowered the rail on your bed, allowing you to be even closer to each other.
"Do you not feel any pain anymore?" he asked then, gently tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear. He looked so sad, a stark contrast of how he usually was, and it bugged you.
"No... I feel fine now."
"Then, can I hug you?"
Of course you nodded without a second thought, and carefully, he wrapped his arms around your body, pulling you close and resting his face on the crook of your neck.
You knew what it was. Satoru was still visibly shaken by what had happened to you, and he wasn't great at expressing himself, so he tried to find consolation through this physical closeness instead.
"I'm okay..." you patted his back, trying to convince him. "I'm alright now, yeah?" But to your surprise, suddenly his whole body started to shake. "Satoru...?"
ââŚâm sorry.â His voice was barely above a whisper as he nuzzled you. âI shouldn't... have let you get this hurt...â
It always amazes you how Satoru always gets this distressed whenever you sustain any injury. You had seen him cry precisely two times nowâonce after you gave birth to your son and experienced severe bleeding, and now.
"It's not your fault..." you whispered in response. "You... have protected me well."
He held you tighter, his tone faltering. "I didn't."
"You have..." you stroked his hair, trying to convince him. "I'm still here, aren't I?"
Hearing you say that made Satoru's chest ache. The thought of something like this happening to you was unimaginable, and now that it had, he couldn't come to terms with seeing you hurt right in front of him.
"Don'tâ" he choked on his voice, his breath trembled against your neck. "Don't ever put yourself in danger again. If something happened to you, I wouldn't be able to live with myself..."
You couldn't make that promise. Despite the pleading in his voice, you knew deep down that your son's lifeâand hisâmeant more, and given the chance, you would obviously save theirs for yours.
âSatoru... I love you, you know that, right?â
So you simply embraced him close, hoping that in this life, you would live long enough that he would never have to see you like this again.
Epilogue
"Papa, how do I become stronger?"
Satoru blinked when his son asked him that so innocently and curiously, taken aback as he led him to your private room later that afternoon. "Oh? What brought this on?"
His first and only son, a perfect miniature of himself, pursed his lips. "I don't want Mama to get hurt again..."
Satoru's heart warmed at his babyâs sincere words, and despite himself, he chuckled.
"What's funny?" his son leveled a glare at him. "I'm being serious."
"Well, aren't you such a good boy? Don't worry, kiddo, I'll teach you my ways~"
"What ways?"
"Well, no need to rush, pumpkin. First of all, you will have to harness your skills and then you have to be more like meâ"
"Do I have to be like you Is there no other way?"
"â? What's wrong with being more like me?"
"Everything...?"

Sukuna has never said no to you.
It didnât matter what the request was, simple or complicated, easy to fix or a days-long job, Sukuna was always at your side, completing the task as fast as he needed to to keep you satisfied. He would love to deny it, youâre sure, but evidence proves time and time again that he puts your needs and wants at the top of his priority list.Â
And you were curious how far you could go with it.
The two of you are sitting in your underwear at the breakfast nook, warming yourselves in the bay window while the morning sun starts on the leftover night time chill. It wasn't quite time for breakfast, still too early for the both of you. In the meantime, you sip on your morning brews, preserving the comfortable silence. Sukuna is flipping through the day's newspaper, his eyes are groggy with sleep and he hasn't said more than a handful of words to you yet. He wasn't a morning person.
You were starting to change that.
"Kuna," You call to him, nudging him with your foot from your corner of the window bench.
"Hmm?" He doesn't look up from the paper, but his hand reaches down and grabs your foot, pulling it into his lap. His thumbs start to subconsciously knead at your muscles.
"I want these." You hold up your phone, which you had previously been scrolling through in an attempt to find something ridiculous for this exact moment. You were sure you had found it, something even Sukuna would find unnecessary.Â
And yet, he merely glances at your screen, takes in the sight for all of two seconds, and then returns his attention to whatever news article he was in the middle of.
"My wallet's on the counter." He clears the sleep from his throat not sparing a second look.Â
You blink at him in surprise.
"D-Did you even see what it is?" You flip your phone around to make sure you were displaying the correct thing.Â
Sukuna is frowning before he looks up again, curious at your persistence. He gently cups your hand, bringing it only a minuscule amount closer to examine your screen a second time.Â
You were on one of the most luxurious brandâs websites, showing him an incredibly regular pair of panties, no straps, no details, all black- with one of the most outrageous price tags you had ever seen for something so ordinary.Â
Sukuna cocks a brow at you over your phone, "Can't imagine you need more panties when you're constantly stealing my boxers. But whatever, hand it over. I know my card number-"
"Kuna," You interrupt him with a surprised laugh, holding fast to your phone when he tries to pluck it out of your hands, "they're a thousand dollars."
He glances back, his eyes focusing lower on the screen where you know the price tag to be. The newspaper in his hands drops down, momentarily forgotten by what he sees. For a moment, you think you've found his limit.
"Wait, are those red one's assless?" He points just below the price, where the recommended products are depicted. "Get those too."
You drop the phone down so that he meets your eyes, which are wide with shock.
Sukuna always took care of you. Always insisted on being the provider of any single thing that you may need; a warm meal, a soft bed, anything your eyes twinkled at that was available for purchase- even if you would never think of buying or owning it. Granted, you never wanted much in terms of material possessions, so you didn't realize the true extent of Sukuna's leniency until now.
It was slightly intimidating, and part of it felt wrong. Sukuna had money, plenty of it, but that didnât mean he should feel the need to spend copious amounts of it on you just because you could ask him to. He was giving you too much power, it felt like.
You huff through your nose, frowning at him, which only has him tilting his head further to the side in question.
You ignore it, setting your phone onto the window seat and crawling your way closer to him, until you can gather up his face in your hands and lock his gaze into yours.
He glares at you past smushed cheeks, but doesn't make a move to break free of your hold, humoring you. "The hell are you doing-"
"You know you don't always have to say yes to me?"
Now that has him taken aback. His mouth automatically opens for a witty response, but your question seems to have effectively taken the words from his mouth. You can see the cogs in his head turning, and what you wouldn't give to peer inside his mind and hear his thoughts.
It takes him a moment, but eventually that familiar confident smile stretches across his sleepy face. His hands seem to instinctively slide their way up your bare legs until his fingers grip your hip bones, pressing into you.Â
He hums, "When have you ever said no to me?"
You scoff, ready to give him a prime example, but end up coming up short. The two of you loved to tease each other with disobedience, but in the end you were eager to give Sukuna anything his heart desired. You loved to please him, it was one of your favorite things to do, in fact.
"You never ask anything ridiculous of me." You remind him, smiling as one of his warm hands slides back down your waist and dips into the pair of his boxers you were sporting that day.Â
"You know what's ridiculous?â His voice wraps around your throat, and suddenly has you swallowing past the delicious grip. You're folding into him before you even realize it, at the mercy of his calloused hands. "The implication that I wouldn't do just about anything for you."
You can't help but sigh hopelessly, although it comes out as a desperate noise that pleads him for more. You really were all his, just like he loved to tell you.
"Now hand me your phone." It's a whisper, coaxing you. "I wanna see you in red."
You canât say no.Â
At least it was mutual.

"I know JK Rowing is a terrible person but her books are so good-"
You sure about that?
I mean, just for a start, have you taken a good look at her fantasy creatures lately? A whole bunch of them are straight-up based on malicious and dehumanizing stereotypes about actual people.
Remember the werewolves? And being a werewolf was made into a kind of metaphor for having AIDS?
And you know how AIDS was first associated with gay men? And how conservatives back in the day were claiming gay men were preying on children in order to convert them to gayness?
Remember how Fenrir Greyback preyed on children in particular? Yeah, she put that subtext in there. She was an adult in the 90's. She knew damn well what she was doing.
Remember the house elves? Remember how most of them loved to serve and needed to have a home and a master or else they just wouldn't know what to do with themselves?
Did you know that's literally what slavers in the American South said about the Black people they kept enslaved? Go look up the happy slave myth.
Do I even need to get into the goblins and the antisemitic tropes they're based on? No, folkloric goblins were not gold-hoarding bankers waiting for their chance to stab humanity in the back.
"But the characters are so good!"
Are you kidding me?
Most of her characters are pretty one-dimensional, including Harry. Her idea of making a morally complicated character is giving a tragic past to a bully. Numerous characters are little more than stereotypes. (Looking at Fleur right now.) Literally anybody, including you, can easily make dozens of characters just as good, if not better. (It doesn't exactly take a lot of character designing skill to go, "hey, actually, having a sad backstory doesn't make it okay to bully children" or "hey, maybe I should not base a character on the first stereotype that pops into my head.")
"But the rest of the worldbuilding!"
Sorry, but her worldbuilding is just as basic as her characters. Magical castles and secret passages are stock tropes. Magical people who keep their true nature secret from humanity is the premise of pretty much every White Wolf TTRPG. Most of her fantasy creatures are just common European fairy tale and folklore creatures with shitty stereotypes projected onto them.
I'm not saying "basic worldbuilding bad." I'm saying, you could do just as good, if not better, with minimal effort.
Also there's her magical bioessentialism, where only Harry's abusive blood relatives could provide him with supernatural protection from Voldemort. Rowling thus effectively declared that non-biological family isn't quite real family, and that abusive biofamily can give you some essential thing that a loving, supportive family that isn't related to you just can't.
The Hogwarts houses are one of the most insidious elements of her worldbuilding. The idea of being sorted gives you a little dopamine hit because wow now you have a li'l niche where you belong!
But the actual function of the houses and sorting system and the House Cup is teaching children to see each other as rivals, and ensure that the most toxic views of the upper class get passed on to every new batch of kids sorted into Slytherin.
Hogwarts effectively prepares children for a dystopia where magic serves to distract its citizens from how nightmarishly awful it is. Economic inequality is so bad that people like Arthur and Molly Weasley can barely afford to put their kids through school, casual sadism is just an accepted norm in everyday society, and non-humans are second class citizens. Rowling sorta acts like she thinks this is a bad thing with certain lines she gave to Dumbledore, but in the end, her special boy protagonist becomes an auror; IE, a defender of the status quo. So.
If you've never seen it, Lily Simpson's video goes into even more detail on how the worldbuilding of Harry Potter is actually incredibly fucked up, and how it betrays small-minded attitudes on Rowling's part. There's no separating the art from this artist, because Rowling's rotten values pour out of nearly every page.
youtube
Yes, there are many things in Harry Potter that evoke feelings and inspire people, but there's absolutely nothing in it that this series has a monopoly on. You can find those same experiences in much, much better media.

âAlright, before you go, I posted in the announcements who you will be doing the project with, please check well who you were assigned withâ sentenced the teacher, taking his stuff.
You sighed, you had completely forgotten to check your notification tray for any notice from the app assigned by your professors for your subjects. You quickly grabbed your cell phone, unlocking it to look for your name next to another of your classmates to work together, you wanted to check it now so you wouldn't let go of whoever you were assigned to on a project of high importance to you.
And there it was. Bang Chan. You didnât have any expression, you didnât know him very well, but his face sure was quite familiar to everyone. You looked up in search of your partner, reflexively adjusting your glasses, and looked around the room until you found the guy, who was also sitting there checking his cell phone, and looked up to look for you, exchanging glances.
Chan was quite popular, charming, he was attractive and athletic but he also had a taste for complicated subjects, after all he was in a career where merely numbers and physics were required. And your project was something you were not going to take lightly, besides you had a short time period, it was just Thursday and the professor wanted the most perfect project on Monday and, you knew he was secretly hoping for something extraordinary as you were the best in his class.
You saw Chan approach you, and you couldnât help but judge him at first sight, he was popular, he was part of a fraternity, and he had a reputation among women; deep inside you felt that he was not the perfect candidate to pair in an academic project but you tried to relax and not stress too much, it would only be a quantum model of which you already had your objective and ideas of what to do, the problem was a bit of paperwork where you had to explain in detail perfectly every part of the model, followed by a few long equations that made your head hurt just thinking about them.
You couldnât help it, school and your major were never something you joked about, you were there to study and excel if at all possible, you loved to retain information and be complimented on your hard work, and you were always an overachiever from day one.
Finally, after years of sharing the same major, for the first time you observed Bang Chan up close and in detail. You looked up as he was standing and you were sitting. He really was handsome and you recognized him instantly, he had a face in perfect harmony with the rest of his muscular body, he was wearing all black, black combat boots, black jeans slightly tight on his thick athletic thighs and a plain black cloth shirt, highlighting more his tanned ivory skin. You suddenly felt nervous, after all you werenât a robot and you were still a young woman, stressed out and a college student spending more time on campus than anywhere else; so your brain instantly processed that he was one of the most handsome and popular men on campus, near you, paying attention to you.
âY/n, youâre my partner, for the project,â he said, with a tender smile revealing unusual dimples beside his smile.
You nodded being a little surprised that he knew who you were instantly, also thinking that you had never heard his voice before, the class wasnât that interactive anyway, in fact almost none of them were, so you rarely heard him speak in the four classes you shared. You didnât know what exactly you felt inside you⌠but you liked it, you were starting to recognize Chanâs hype, from what commonly many other girls thought, yes he was attractive and he took advanced physics classes with that face? It seemed unreal.
You suddenly thought that to take advanced physics classes was for a reason, it seemed criminal to have that face, body and reputation but in the mornings to take hard subjects.
âMmhumâ you hummed coming out of your trance, concentrating on the main thing, the project, âI have an idea of what to do, I can divide what materials we would occupy, to work together and do it, if you want to discuss what it is, we can go outside and talkâŚâ
âOkay, letâs go but Iâm sure Iâll agree with youâ he suddenly interrupted you, leaving you with the words unfinished in your mouth and this one slightly open.
You nodded again and stood up abruptly, finally walking out of the room.
Chan saw you with tenderness, the truth was that for a long time you had caught his attention and he had his eye on you. Since last semester, in one of your final projects before leaving for summer vacation, since then Chan has not stopped thinking about you, since you spoke so clearly and confidently, like a little know-it-all, you were like a challenge for him, something so unreachable and difficult to achieve; since then he did not associate with more women and lived his day to day with the satisfaction of seeing you far away from the classroom. It seemed like he wasnât, but he really got shy when it came to you, as he had you on a pedestal where you were a beautiful girl, intelligent, worried about her grades and made proper use of the university campus, genuinely studying. Chan had this innocent crush on you âat the beginningâ, you had a nerdy, innocent and docile appearance and your voice was so unique, from one day to the next you drove him crazy and, when he found out that by fate you would work on a project and that there was a perfect excuse to get close to you, his heart wanted to burst out of his chest and he almost went running to give head to his professor for choosing such a perfect match, finally, after months of just seeing you.
Chan sighed, following you and listening attentively to you speak, completely fascinated in you and finding it difficult to retain the information you were telling him about something extremely important and which you spoke passionately about, all his mind could see was you, moving your lips, while the wind moved your hair gracefully, for him you were just saying blah blah, Chan; he only retained information when you pronounced his name. Chan licked his lips, absorbed in your eyes and then your lips, leaning towards you, causing you a little nervousness. Chan frowned softly, his hands clasped behind his back, nodding, pretending to be listening to you. He hadnât felt like this in a long time, the excitement and innocence of liking and being interested in someone; before you, he lived from one-night stands and on the edge, trying every girl, until he was satisfied, but you, there really was genuine interest.
âAmmh, can you text me everything anyway to my number?â he said, absolutely lost on the topic as he focused on your sudden closeness.
You nodded with a smile that made him melt, he liked you way too much and immediately handed you his cell phone so you could take down your number.
âMm, how about if we start working on this from tomorrow? I think it will take some time and if we do it sooner is betterâ you commented, to which Chan nodded frantically at your slightest request.
Then he thought, he had to tutor students in grades below him, go to the gym and then he had a birthday party for one of his dorm mates; but he couldnât say no to you, he could cancel everything if possible to spend the whole day with you, plus of course, the project was important.
You bit the inside of your cheek somewhat nervously, feeling kind of silly that the only times you invite a cute guy to meet and see each other is only for college work.
âHow about tomorrow at 5?â you said again.
Chan felt so fulfilled, it wasnât a date but he would finally see you outside the classroom, close up.
âSure! Thereâs a coffee shop around here two blocks from campus, letâs go tomorrow to work on the project and if you want to eat Iâm buying, it doesnât matterâ he smiled at you.
Now you were the one who was somehow captivated by his smile.
âYesâŚâ
âIâll send you the address to meet us there.â
Chan was more than excited to at least spend more time with you.
[âŚ]
You were particularly nervous for some reason, since yesterday you kept thinking that genuinely Chan looked like a nice guy, he was kind, attentively answered your messages and easily understood every single thing you told him about the topic for the assignment. Plus he was quite attractive. And your friends started to bother you a little bit too, making you rethink the whole situationâŚ
In your time in college you only concentrated on your classes, you did have the occasional crush on the occasional guy, but no one worth your valuable time. So you got over it right away and went on with your quiet âand stressfulâ college life, however⌠that had led you to be completely inexperienced. The issue never bothered you, until you were about to meet another attractive man whom you had a concept that he was absolutely the opposite of you, partying, sociable and charismatic.
But once you arrived and found him there, you realized the similarities you shared, after all you were both studying the same major. You got to know him a little, relaxing the atmosphere, you learned that he had studied to please his father but that somehow he was great at mathematics which softened his studies. That he tutored and that he played a lot of sports. He really seemed nice and his eyes sparkled when he talked to you, an inexplicable fact for you, a reality that he was talking to his crush, for Chan.
And then it was time to meet you. You didnât quite know what to say, more that your major choice was a matter of enjoyment and you were happy studying what you had been chosen to study. You felt slightly silly since there wasnât much to say, or at least you thought so at the time.
Then between the pleasant conversation and a cup of coffee for you, and three for Chan, you continued working on the written work, both concentrated and absorbed that the time passed so fast for you, giving you 10 o'clock at night, just the closing time of the coffee shop.
You both picked up your things in sorrow, you had made enough progress, but there was still quite a bit left to do and that made you uneasy somehow, you couldnât help it, you were going to be quiet until it was finished or almost done, so you suddenly blurted out:
âYou live in a frat, right?â
âMmhu, yesâ Chan replied somewhat embarrassed.
He suddenly felt pathetic to be part of such an outdated tradition system.
You sighed, you both carried all the stuff to make the model and had to assemble it as soon as possible. Once again the cool autumn wind hit your bodies.
âWe can go to my apartment to⌠continueâ you added, looking him in the eyes and avoiding using the word finish so Chan wouldnât be forced and feel it tedious.
Chan nodded softly when in reality he was more than excited to meet your place. The two of you took an app ride to your building just a few minutes away from campus.
You werenât a big fan of college dorms and you weren't interested in joining a sorority either, so a quiet apartment in a neighborhood in the middle of the busy city was more than enough for you.
Chan didnât think he was able to contain his excitement, watching you fondly in the night light as you made your way to your apartment; until finally arriving where he naturally asked you:
âAnd do you have roomates?â
He found it a bit impressive that you live a bit far from campus in a decent building on your own.
âUmhm, at the moment I donât have any but Iâm looking and I have candidates.â
Chan nodded in understanding and inwardly thinking that it would be more than a treat to be able to see your apartment. You really were looking for a roommate, living alone and being a college student paying for everything could be stressful.
âYou can leave things on the tableâ you said, also leaving your laptop there.
He listened to you and slyly looked around the place. It was a nice place, with just enough room for you and someone else, with a big window reflecting the lights from the building across the street. You a little, not uncomfortable, but strange to have a man in your apartment looked so out of the ordinary, if you were even sharing time with another man was something abnormal, let alone a handsome and popular guy like Chan was.
âWellâŚâ you spoke, somewhat nervously, lifting your glasses to rest the bridge of your nose for a second, rubbing it gently, suddenly you looked into the kitchen and were embarrassed to realize you hadnât eaten and he would probably be hungry, âGod, I never asked, do you want some dinner? I tend to forget about food when Iâm under some pressure.â
Chan looked at you tenderly at first as you spoke, then his expression changed to one of concern.
âAre you skipping meals? Are you stressed now?â
His sudden answers surprised you.
âOh, no, itâs just that⌠I usually work and do homework continuously that itâs very common that from time to time, I donât eat, but if you want to do it we can order something, itâs kind of lateâ you answered somewhat nervously, the tiredness and Chanâs attractive image in your apartment were starting to be a certain kind of effect.
âAlright. Letâs order somethingâ he smiled, Chan wasnât that hungry but hearing that you used to skip meals he wanted you to be fed well instantly, besides if you were going to finish the project, he wanted to have all the energy he needed.
You smiled nervously and soon after you started your activity, you typed fast in your essay, Chan was in charge of assembling the model without difficulty. Then dinner arrived, both of you were already tired, your only time to stop was in the small talk in the coffee shop and when you headed to your place.
âCan you pick up dinner? Iâll go changeâ you blurted out suddenly, in a deep tone of voice as you were tired, a little more relaxed with Chan.
He saw you, he was surprised, since you had not spoken to each other for minutes since you were both concentrated in what you were doing âunlike him who also paid attention to you from once in a whileâ, your tone of voice seemed to him suddenly and somehow, something so captivating and seductive that he kept watching you, who you, without taking any notice of Chan standing in front of you on the other side of the table, took off the oversized cardigan you were wearing, somewhat exhausted in search of something more comfortable to be in your own apartment, leaving you only with the thin white tank top you were wearing underneath that garment.
Chan couldnât believe it, he was transfixed and completely hypnotized by your action, absorbed seeing every detail, slightly exposing your chest through the circular neckline of the blouse, your shoulders, your arms and your figure tightly wrapped in the fabric. Chan swallowed nervously clenching his fist, he felt so pathetic going crazy just because you showed so little of your skin. His eyes traveled quickly all over your body, not wanting to miss any detail.
You noticed it, you felt his gaze on you and saw him confused, you felt so watched and analyzed, you could only say:
âIâll go to⌠put on something more comfortable.â
Chan reacted instantly, letting out a nervous chuckle and nodding, turning to pick up the food left at your door. You didnât know exactly how to feel, his gaze was so new to you, you had never felt such expressive eyes glued to you from another boyâŚ. or probably they used to look at you like that, but you never paid attention to them, but with Chan, it was inevitable not to pay attention to him, he was with you, alone, in such a nice night; your mind was spinning, thinking about the infinity of things that usually means when two young people are alone and attracted to each other but, did you really like Chan or were you already losing your mind because of tiredness and stress, you didnât know well, you were ridiculously inexperienced that your concept of attraction was maybe based on movies or experiences told by your friends.
Still you decided to ignore the thoughts and wanted to get comfortable at home, you had been wearing jeans for hours and you were dying to take them off, you would take off your bra if you could but you didnât feel confident enough, so you left that tank top on and put on the comfortable shorts, your body was starting to heat up and you knew exactly why, but you didnât want to accept it. You returned, finding Chan preparing food on the small nightstand between your living room, greeting you with a smile and gently asking you if it was okay to eat there to which you nodded.
Once again, Chan ran his gaze over your body, he had never seen you like this before, the sudden exposure of your body drove him crazy and made him feel sick, nor did he want to feel this way as it seemed unhinged and depraved, but he couldnât help it, there was no turning back. At first it was a cute crush on you, then it involved a couple of desires and dirty thoughts that wouldnât leave his mind. Chan, like any interested guy, casually asked among his friends if they knew you to which none of them knew how to answer, only a guy a year older than him, who was also in the same faculty, saying that you were very pretty but that there was no record of you dating on or off campus, that you were so reserved and that he wouldnât be surprised that you were probably just studying, in the end he revealed that he had confessed to you and you had rejected him without giving him any reason. Chanâs silly and immature friends joked that you might still retain your innocence and that girls with a certain nerdy appearance used to be somewhat transcendental in sex, that they were shy and innocent at first but once you give them your trust to give them pleasure they wereâŚ
Chan refused those thoughts outright, dismissed them as misogynistic and was upset for days. He did get to see your innocence but it wasnât something he fantasized about sexually, in fact, he never fantasized sexually about you, until that comment fucked with his head.
Because it was true, your private life was so private, you were not known to have had or dated anyone on campus and he found you so fucking interesting suddenly overnight, two intentions merged, Chan could desire you so purely by holding your hand and filling you with kisses, at the same time he could desire from you to fill you with his cum and fuck you to exhaustion. At the moment he was balancing the situation so well, he was doing so well that he had learned to stay away so long, as he didnât know how to handle it, until now when the opportunity to be with you presented itself.
Chan was thinking about the fact that he hadnât fucked a virgin woman since high school, when he lost his virginity to his first girlfriend too⌠but you had him all messed up and he could promise to be just as sweet to you if you give him the chance.
He cleared his throat and tried to come out of his trance, but when you approached him it was his dream and doom, looking to him so beautifully carefree in your shorts and tank top; still Chan did his best to behave himself and not want to ruin what he felt was just beginning.
You both started to eat sitting on the floor, close to each other, at first a little awkward, but quickly Chan knew how to soften the atmosphere, saying the right words and bringing up conversation topic after conversation topic, just to take your thoughts away a little, otherwise an incredible tension would have formed, as you were already starting to look at him closely and by the end of the night, you finally recognized how much you could get to like him, he was funny, handsome and you shared the same interests academically, you thought he could even be almost perfect. When you finished and cleaned up a bit, Chan watched you, so determined towards the project, going quickly towards it, ready to finish it, the truth was that you didnât know exactly how to react, what would be the next move and you just got distracted escaping towards the project. He, somewhat frustrated, continued with you, just to keep breathing your sweet scent and to see your body in your comfortable home clothes.
Half an hour later, the meal instead of lifting Chanâs spirits did quite the opposite, relaxing him and making him tired and sleepy, plus the continuous hard work was beginning to stress him, but being with you rewarded him for everything except the tiredness in him, unfortunately. Chan watched you carefully, working non-stop, talking to him about the project with your deep and slightly tired tone of voice that seemed to Chan so seductive, he was beginning to lose himself, he was between drowsiness and desire, looking boldly at you, without thinking straight, he was about to hush you, take you and put you on his lap so you could both rest and, if possible, he would take you to bed, telling you how hard you work and that you should rest, that college matters, but not as much as yourself.
You once again noticed his heavy gaze on you, you saw how it was so likely that this time he was not paying attention to what you were saying, how he licked his lips and you became more nervous, more than the previous times, there was something so heavy in his presence that you had never felt before, you did not complain but you felt that at any moment it could get out of control⌠you thought if this was the sexual tension that you had only heard about.
Chan carved his eyes tiredly, he didnât know how to stop you or tell you no, but your voice was stimulating him more and more, in a way to put him to bed and not exactly to sleep. Chan could only think of how suddenly he wanted to almost kiss you to shut you up and make you feel good.
You had already noticed his behavior, at times he looked tired, at times he looked at you in a way that made your hair stand on end.
Finally, he called your name, so serious, with a tone of voice that surprised you, made you stop talking about equations for a moment and look him straight in the eye. His gaze was dark and penetrating, you had never been seen like that before. You were both sitting next to each other, working close, so Chan leaned towards you, so ready to say what he felt from the start, he didnât know exactly what he would say but heâd make sure he had you tonight; he was in agony, he couldnât take it anymore with the sudden tension that escalated quickly and with your particular voice that was starting to excite him to stratospheric levels, and having him there in misery, unable to do anything, that wasnât exactly what he was looking for.
He licked his lips and every part of you saw it coming, you knew it so deep down, you werenât that dumb, his look and little actions spoke for themselves, you knew Chan was lusting after you and you panicked slightly not knowing what to do.
âYou can take a nap if you wantâ you suggested kindly with a smile, hiding your nervousness at having him around, âYou look tired, itâs okay.â
Chan was about to protest, he saw you confused and got caught in your captivating but hard to read gaze, your glasses reflected his tired body and unsweet intentions, so he decided to take a step back and agree, somehow he felt embarrassed and decided it was still better to keep his distance, even though that wasnât specifically what he wanted.
He nodded, with a smile and somewhat embarrassed, âReally? Youâre okay with that? I donât want to leave you..â
He did get tired, but now he didnât know if it was from the continuous work or from not being able to do anything with you.
You didnât know why you did it, but you grabbed his shoulders and nodded, eyes shining, feeling so good to touch his strong body. You hadnât touched him, maybe you just wanted to play a little and decided to kill your curiosity, how a man like Chan felt.
Chan subtly saw your hands on his shoulders and lost his mind again, but he sighed, calming down and getting up from his chair to rest his body on the couch. You no longer said anything, again the tension returned, with a silence. As much as Chan didnât want to think about it, he thought of your smile, the way you spoke to him and of your gaze suddenly meaning so much to him, your bright eyes, almost asking to be touched by him, he could feel it, but he felt paranoid for a second, to which he only let his body fall on your couch, with his forearm on his forehead, the other hand on his abdomen and his head leaning back on a cushion, slowly closing his eyes, shutting off every one of his thoughts for a moment.
But it was true, you didnât know how to say it, but being touched by Bang Chan just now didnât sound so crazy to you. You were so ready but so not ready at the same time, you wanted to do it, you didnât know how to tell him, it scared you since you didnât know how to do it and you were in a continuous internal battle. You were slightly insecure, he was handsome and popular, with much more experience than you and, maybe it was something typical that you like Chan, since everybody likes him, but you were dying to try him even onceâŚ
Fifteen minutes later, of which you found incredibly stressful, as you continued to work on the project, chasing away every thought and more than okay with Chan staying quiet and napping on your couch, as you liked him incredibly well, you checked the time and became a little alert when you saw that it was almost one in the morning and you had no notion of time, you understood that Chanâs tiredness was justifiable and almost necessary and you were already starting to feel more stressed, as well as embarrassed by the fact that you had kept Chan working on the project so late. You reproached yourself, debating whether to wake him up and tell him that you could continue tomorrow, that it was almost done and you were missing something so minimal⌠or if you should let him stay over just for tonight since it was late.
You didnât think so much about it though, as you suddenly felt large hands on your shoulders, massaging you and scaring you slightly. Chan giggled, he had woken up, more energetic and with the great intensity and willpower to try with you, something in him told him so and it was something he couldnât ignore, so, without you noticing, he came up behind you, finding you still in the same position, working.
âGod, Y/N, you need to relax, okay? Itâs late you should rest, youâre really working hard on this.â
Your body tensed incredibly more, you really didnât expect it, much less that he was touching you, with a slightly thicker voice than usual. You raised your gaze, his long fingers were still resting on your shoulders, magically he looked better than a moment ago, more energetic and with a flirtatious expression on his face.
âYouâre awake alreadyâŚâ you replied nervously, not wanting to scare him away, like a few minutes ago.
âJust like you, itâs late. Has anyone ever told you how hard you work? Are you usually this demanding of yourself?â
You didnât understand what was going on, it was as if he had suddenly changed but at the same time he was still the same and there was something that pleased you so much, like the sudden touch towards you.
You nodded, somewhat submissive with your head spinning not knowing how to react properly. Chan took the chair with agility, sitting down in front of you, stopping touching you and leaving you perplexed, blinking slowly letting you think that you were so tired that maybe you fell asleep deeply and that all this was just a dream. But it was so real and suddenly you were so awake.
âLeave all that for a momentâŚâ he whispered slowly, gently removing the pencil from your hand and placing it on the table, âLet me take care of you.â
âWhat?â
Chan didnât touch you again, he just stared at you, long and determined seconds that made you feel the lack of him in you. He leaned back in the chair, enjoying your tender expression of confusion. He had enough, he would try, he would do it for the incredible, heavy tension between you, and if you didnât want to, he was going to understand but he already knew that was so unlikely. So he was direct, he always was, there was just something about you that kept him shy, but not anymore, he wanted you, he needed you, it was almost as if the night was asking for it too, something in the air drew you to each other irrevocably.
âYou deserve to relax. I want you. Just tell me what you want, whether you want it or not, I wonât be weird about it afterwards, I promise, I just⌠canât get you off my head, I need you.â
âHow?â you mumbled, still in disbelief.
Chan smiled sideways, chuckling softly. âYou know how. Want me to show you, sweetie?â
You nodded softly, wanting to put all shyness aside but you couldnât control it, you were turned on and it was your first time in a situation like this, with intense tension that you even heard every breath and loud heartbeat in your ears.
You had done it before, kissing boys but the experiences were so insignificant that you hardly remember it or count it as experience, since you had learned nothing.
Chan moved dangerously close to you, resting his big hands on your bare thighs, stretching slightly and attractively his neck detonating little veins, his big straight nose so close to your face, with a smug smile, he said again:
âCan I kiss you?â
And it took only a small push of your yielding body to touch his lips, feeling at first the softness and plumpness of his full lips at the impact. Your body temperature rose madly, new sensations were taking over your body, it wasnât the same ones that you had done before, his kisses were deeper, steady and passionate that it was hard to keep up with him and you were in between enjoying and thinking you wanted to do it right.
You let yourself go but you were still tense and Chan noticed it in the instant, with your body slightly trembling, he just wanted to make you feel good so he gently pulled away from you, leaving you missing the feel of his lips.
âDo you want me to stop?â he whispered, squeezing your thighs, feeling your muscle tense.
But your face reflected something else, your eyes were shining seeing every detail of Chanâs face up close, you were so ready but you had the tingle of wanting to get it right. He could see your nervous body, your countenance begging, still he didnât want to continue if you were going to be nervous and almost resisting, he couldnât read you clearly, he was really turned on, the slightest interaction with you made his body very blissful.
You denied, you knew you were so stiff and situations like these needed two relaxed bodies giving themselves, you were nervous but decided to confess it:
âItâs just⌠I want to do it right.â
Chanâs smile widened, your kiss was so tender and shy that thoughts of your innocence came back to his mind, he wanted to try so many things with you and make you explore, but he didnât want you to feel insecure so he would patiently teach you step by step if necessary.
âItâs okay, baby, let me handle itâ he whispered, with an endearing and understanding tone, still close to you, everything about him made you pleasantly uneasy, âI can teach you, just for your pleasure, okay?â
You nodded, lost in him, you noticed he looked genuinely interested and patient. Chan moved away again, leaning back in the chair, rubbing and patting his thigh with his veiny hand that was having an effect on you.
âCome here, to teach you how to do it better, although I was already loving the way you were doing it, princess.â
Chan ran his tongue over the bottom of his front teeth, waiting for you, and for you, every sentence of his almost made you sigh, you were so turned on, you knew exactly the feeling, you needed Chan now. You were a hot mess, you wanted and needed him so quickly and without much thought, you sat on his lap, trying to put your embarrassment aside, you sat down facing him, with your legs in the air on either side of the chair, Chan was surprised and felt so delightful your weight on his erection, he didnât think you were going to position yourself like that but you left him absolutely charmed.
âIâm going to kiss you, try to keep up with me and move your sweet lips over mine, relax and let yourself go, beautiful, okay?â
He again took hold of your face with one hand and the other held your waist, you felt his sweet kiss at the same time you were dealing with the bulge between his pants pressing against your pussy. He was so hard, you could feel it if only through the slightly thick, rough denim of his black jeans. Chan was dressed so attractively, in a plain white shirt and leather jacket that he left on the rack in your entryway, with long silver chains decorating his collar and thick bracelets on his right wrist. You could feel how big he was, despite having clothes on, the thought of seeing a cock for the first time made your skin bristle with excitement, just imagining Chan, as something in yourself told you he should look so fucking good naked.
âOpen your mouth widerâ he whispered, panting and over your lips after a loud crash of your lips, as you parted almost non-existent inches apart.
You obeyed him and agilely he took you again, this time introducing his tongue and making the act slower and more sensual, so captivating that he even managed to relax you, you only lived from the sensation of letting yourself be carried away by him and with your face leaning on his hand. They had never made you feel this way that you slowly resented your throbbing pussy in desperation, suddenly so wet begging for attention.
âMmm, I love your kisses, fuckâ he mumbled senselessly as he pulled inches away from you.
You kept kissing, his face colliding with your glasses, but you didnât want to take them off as you didnât want to miss any tiny detail every time you parted for seconds. Chan, sesually and panting moved his kisses down your neck, filling your body more with euphoric and new sensations, his lips brushed your neck, giving soft and small sounding kisses until he subtly licked it, to suck your sensitive skin, using his teeth, causing you a pleasurable and short sting that reached every corner of your body, making you moan and leaving a mark on you.
His hands went down to your torso, to lift your blouse and finally feel the brush of his hands across your soft skin, he squeezed of your body, slowly lowering his lips, resisting the urge to fuck you hard, enduring the pain of his throbbing stiff cock trapped in his pants and being pressed against your body and you continued to feel his lips and the brush of his nose and heavy breathing across your skin going lower and lower, as well as constant little nibbles, leaving fresh new hickeys on you, Chan couldnât help it, he was going crazy with the idea of you just being his, leaving reddish marks on you and biting your sensitive skin and it just turned you on so much. Reaching your chest, you twitched your body a little, moving it sharply and surprising Chan by the pleasurable friction of you on his cock. He grunted and pulled his lips away from your skin for a second and, almost as if an imaginary light bulb lit up above your head, you understood that being on his erection also made him feel good, as much as it made you feel good, since his erection was rubbing against your pussy, covered only by your wet panties and thin shorts; so you moved, stirring on his cock and intentionally grinding it harder.
Chan moaned, letting out soft, sonorous âA-aah, mmmâ and then he raised his gaze, staring into your eyes, causing you to shiver at his lustful stare.
âFuck, you want to move for me? Go ahead, baby, go fucking enjoy my cock with your clothes on, fuck, are you a little horny? Unable to wait and fucking me with your clothes on. Go ahead, enjoy and cum for me like thisâ he licked his lips, leveling his face with yours, talking to you in such a sultry tone that it made your cheeks burn.
You were so uselessly horny that you were enjoying to the fullest bouncing on Chanâs cock under the hard denim, pressing all over your pussy, your labia, moving them nimbly that it made you blur your vision.
âYes-Keep moving, baby, youâre doing so good, beautiful.â
His voice aroused you more and more bringing you so close to your orgasm, you were so concentrated in the sensation of your movements on his cock, you couldnât stop, you moved your hips and Chan helped you with his hands squeezing your waist; you felt so hot and trapped, so desperate to get your clothes off but you didnât want to stop, you werenât going to stop until you were tired, it was as if you had no choice but to climax right now, just like this. Chan watched with desire and tenderness your very focused and excited expression, sighing and straining to make you feel good at the same time you were making him feel that effect on him, squeezing his cock so hard, expelling precum and not so far from his ejaculation.
He admired the marks on your skin, witness and proof of what was happening, the top girl in the class, all aroused rubbing herself on her classmateâs cock, seeking pleasure and her climax. Chan bit his lower lip and caught your lips again, touching your restless and desperate body, he was about to cum. You were starting to get tired but it was a tiredness inexplicably so hot, your chest was burning from the constant strong heartbeat, you were at your limit and you were doing almost nothing, but both of you were a mess of heaving breaths, Chan didnât want to change anything about you either at that moment, he just squeezed you tightly enjoying every movement until he cum inside his underwear, in a gasp, throwing his head back, feeling one pressure release pleasantly but another coming so abruptly and quickly not wanting to finish yet with you. You held onto his shoulders tightly, pressed your legs into his body, Chan knew you were close so he encouraged you, with a kiss on your mouth half open and words that warmed even your ears:
âGo on, cum, princess, let yourself go⌠Cum for me.â
You gasped in despair and a little high-pitched moan, you cum all over your panties, leaving you flushed, breathless and with your pussy sticky. Seconds later you wanted to catch your breath, you still felt immobile before his big hands squeezing your body, you were at levels of agitation you didnât think youâd reach in the near future with another guy.
Chan also had his breath hitching, yet the thought of still not even remotely finishing with you came back to him, reflecting a smile on his face.
âLet me take care of you, okay?â
You looked at him with big pitying eyes which drove him crazy. Chan thought about the idea of your pussy a little battered from being in constant motion with the hard friction of his clothes, he wanted to treat and tend to your sensitive center, now, he needed it.
âYes, Chan.â
âThatâs my good girlâ he said proudly, shuddering every inch of you, you felt so good he said little things to you, âWhere are you most comfortable, baby? Huh.â
You looked at him for only short seconds, you were so excited and filled with the accelerated feeling not knowing what his next moves would be on you, you were more than willing for anything, for him to take you and fuck you, you just wanted to be filled with that sensation again and more with someone like Chan, who looked so sure of what he was doing and looked so fucking good doing it and in a mode of excitement and pleasure, every part of him was transpiring sex and you were losing your mind little by little.
âIn my room, in the hallway ofâŚâ
You werenât even finished, when Chan stood up, carrying you, grabbing your ass and carrying you to your room where he left you sitting on one of the edges of the bed, your feet touching the floor, he positioned himself on his knees in front of you.
âDo you want me to make you feel good, pretty girl?â he said again, once more so excited, about nothing short of taking your clothes off.
âYes, Chan, p-please.â
You were so needy again, you wanted to be filled with the extreme sensation that seemed to have no end. He smiled.
âIâm going to take off your tiny shorts and panties, yes sweetie?â
You nodded, excited and nervous that he is about to see your private part, but it was throbbing intensely, it was again getting more lubricated and wanted to be treated with attention. Chan tugged at your shorts and panties at the same time, impatient to taste you and merely seeking your pleasure.
He slid the garments down your legs until they were off and admired your wet, glistening pussy, somehow it looked slightly swollen, begging to be attended to and touched.
âYou try hard and work hard, you deserve to get your stress off, let me do itâŚâ
Chan said it, in such a thick voice so lost in the image of your pussy. You were so nervous, almost wanting to shiver but you moaned as you felt his lips on the skin of your mons pubis, giving you kisses and leaving little hickeys, nibbling the area, until his mouth took your clit, making you squeal; you were beginning to relax and let yourself be carried away by the tingling of the tip of his index finger caressing your soft, moist vulva, playing with your wetness, until two of his fingers teased your entrance until he inserted his fingers, while his mouth never let go of your sensitive spot, licking and sucking it gently, causing you pleasure and the beginning of trembling in your legs.
Chan fucked you gently and deeply for a few moments, teasing you and reaching sweet places inside your tight pussy, but he withdrew his fingers from you, positioned both his hands on your thighs, squeezing them gently and began to move his mouth all the way down your vulva, licking the right places, sucking delightfully on your labia and filling himself with you, from his chin to his nose, so focused working on you. You felt so hot, somehow he looked so good eating you out while you were a panting mess, arching your back and being pleasured.
He stroked your clit again and sucked gently but with moderate intensity, humming mmm, that caused a sweet vibration in you, you were feeling so good you could feel your second orgasm again. Chan parted your folds so he could rub his mouth better inside them, you were so satisfied you thought of the myth that college boys didnât know how to eat pussy, but no one like Chan, doing it so expertly he had you soaking wet, whimpering and shivering just with his lips, tongue, and mouth. He moved inches away from your pussy, to spread your entrance with his hand and insert his tongue deep. At the same time, his finger again caressed your clit, bringing you to orgasm, contracting your legs, being careful with him between them, arching your back, and in a loud moan calling out his name, the great sexual tension built up was released with his mouth on your pussy.
Chan didnât stop working on you until he stopped feeling your last intense trembling and stopped watching your body collapse until it became softer tremors and he smiled. He didnât think he could leave you alone for now, let alone finish the project now that you were just starting, but right now, his satisfaction was to fulfill his goal, by making you feel good and de-stress a little because you were worth it and deserved it. He was there to give you a good time.
