bike built for two | scott x tessa
Because I couldn’t come up with a better title. Anyway! A little gift for @isaaclahys because apparently it’s super easy for me to write when I’m not agonizing writing my own ships. Somehow after sharing my writing woes with you and creating a writing plan, this idea smacked me upside the head and I had to bang it out while I have the inspiration. So have Scott and Tessa being all cute on a nice bike ride! (Also tagging @sgtbuckyybarnes for a few Perrie mentions.)
------
The heavy thud of a helmet dropping onto the table jerked Tessa out of her advanced placement biology haze, yanking her out of the riveting world of enzymes. Her fisted hand, which had previously been acting as a pseudo pillow on her cheek, landed on the table as she jerked upright, startled. Eyes wide, lips parting in a ready effort to apologize to the librarian, her panicked disposition eased at the sight of Scott’s lopsided smile.
“What’re you doing here?” Tessa asked, leaning back in her chair, arms stretched above her head. She sighed at the cracks and pops that ran up her stretched spine. Geeze, how long had she been sitting in that chair?
“Liam said you were studying and may need a ride home,” he explained, drumming his fingers on the crown of the helmet. What once used to be stark white was now mottled with dirt smears and cracks.
She froze midway through a yawn, her face sticking mid-contort with her tongue sticking out. His smile pulled back further on the side and he pushed a laugh through his nose. A burning flush crept up her neck and she leaned forward, settling her chair back on four legs. “Did he?” she mumbled, reaching for her phone. She noticed the little blue light blinking in the top left corner and then remembered. Her phone was on silent. She always silences her phone when she’s studying AP Bio. Because even though she needed the class it could still kiss her ass.
Swiping the screen with her thumb, she unlocked it and read the message Liam had sent an hour and a half ago, judging by the time stamp:
Nvm got a ride home frm Mase Don’t study 2 hard I’m sndin Scott if u don’t hve a ride
Tessa’s eyelid twitched, whether it was at the sight of Liam’s horrendous texting shortcuts or from the weight of studying for so long smacking into her, she didn’t know. Letting out a long breath, she rubbed at her eyes and then turned a smile up at Scott. “I appreciate it. You didn’t have to wait for me.”
“Oh, uhm, I kind of didn’t.” At her probing gaze, Scott rubbed the back of his neck. The thick denim material of his favorite riding jacket strained beneath his flexing arm. Tessa’s eyes traced the curve of the bulge a few seconds too long. “I kind of had detention.”
“You?” Her head tilted to the side. “All the teachers love you. What did you do?”
“I kind of fell asleep in English class.” His smile, so sheepish, pulled his lower lip in between his teeth and Tessa had a flash of wondering what that lip would feel like between her teeth. With a good shake of her head and a plastered on smile she forced that thought away, hoping beyond hope that her increased heartbeat didn’t
“Yeah, well, you get a werewolf pass due to your extracurriculars.”
“Not from Mr. Brady. Anyway…I came to see if you were still here. I called your name a couple times. Guess you didn’t hear me. Ap Bio’s rough, huh?”
“Yeah but…” she shrugged, “if I want to be anything like my dad, I need to take the class.”
Scott nodded. “I get it.”
And she knew he did. Wanting to become a veterinarian himself wasn’t an easy feat. She wasn’t as surprised as Kira and Lydia were when he first dropped into the seat next to her on the first day of classes. They even spoke about it when picking classes last semester, before the school year ended. He’d been going back and forth about it for ages, whether to stay on the normal science track or take the risk and try for the advanced placement. He didn’t feel like he was fit for it, smart for it, right for it. Tessa had no problems telling him all the ways he was wrong. It took her two hours by phone and she missed her nightly skype call with Perrie to do it but it was worth it. It was worth Perrie’s (exaggerated) wrath of being slighted to see the pride in his eye when he managed an A-minus on their first test. Scott didn’t have enough faith in himself; if she needed to slap him with a good dose of faith, so be it.
“So.” He tapped an uneven beat on his helmet and then picked it up, spinning it between his fingers. “Ready to go?”
“Home. Right, yes!” Tessa squeezed her eyes shut and quelled another yawn. Huh, maybe he came at the right time. “Just let me stop by my locker first.”
“No problem. Take your time.”
Tessa gathered up her books and, standing, nestled them into the crook of her elbow. She quickly glanced around the table, ensuring that she snatched up the candy bar wrapper that she left behind before the librarian saw it. (She was a total stickler for the rules, no eating or drinking being the biggest one. She apparently didn’t care when they were all biting their nails as exams came around.) As she lifted her backpack off the back of the chair her hair fell into her face. She blew it away a couple of times, grumbling as she lifted her strap up to her shoulder.
Fingers brushed against her cheek. She froze, a stirring kicking around in her stomach as she followed the fingers up to a palm and then down the denim-clad arm up to Scott’s smiling face. A shiver rolled down her spine at his gentle touch, as he pushed her hair behind her ear, his thumb brushing against her cheek. Her quick choice of a half-updo that morning came with more benefits than just appearing put together at the last minute, apparently.
“Thanks,” she said, managing a smile.
Scott shrugged a shoulder. “No problem.”
No problem. As if he were helping out a friend. Of course. Because that’s what they were. Just friends.
They walked shoulder to shoulder out of the library and through the different levels of the school until they reached the bank of senior lockers. Tessa quickly spun the dial on her metallic red lock to Liam’s numbers—09 for his lacrosse number, 27 for the day he was born, and 02 for being the second favorite child in the family—and threw her books in. She could deal without AP Bio for one night. She could only hope Ms. Finch didn’t throw a pop quiz at them.
Unzipping her bag, she swapped out a few of her notebooks, double checked she had her calculator for math, crossed off the day on her mini magnetic calendar hanging amongst the pictures of her and her friends, grabbed the jacket she’d borrowed from Lydia, making a mental note to clean it and bring it back the next day, and shoved it unceremoniously into her bag. (Another note: get out the wrinkles before Lydia stabs you with a heel). When she turned, Scott’s eyebrows lifted.
“Ready?” he asked, spinning his keys around his finger.
She nodded. “Ready.”
Except what she wasn’t ready for was approaching the lone motorcycle in the parking lot and suddenly remembering that—duh!—it was what he’d taken today and she’d have to get on it. Her fingers tightened against the strap of her bag and her lips pressed together. How the entire existence of his helmet wasn’t a clue to her made her mentally slap herself and tell herself that maybe Perrie was right and she did need a break from studying. How could she miss that?
Scott loved that bike. He kept it clean and kept up with the oil change and the maintenance and made sure to get the inspection done as early as possible. Even if a little bug got smashed on the number plate at the front he’d be sure it was gone before his next trip. As if sensing her growing apprehension Scott flashed a smile at her over his shoulder, “Don’t worry, I’m a safe driver.”
“Great.”
It wasn’t him she was worried about; it was everyone else. Everyone else and their blind spots. Everyone else and their blind spots and the sheer statistics of motorcycle accidents that her father had drilled into her head ever since she brought up the idea of following in his medical footsteps. Because she needed to see the reality of the world, he’d said. Needed to know what happens when people play games in traffic, he said. Needed to really get what could happen when no one was paying attention, he said.
She saw it, she knew it, she got it. And it’s why she’d avoided getting on that thing ever since the moment Scott walked away from Crowe’s Nest Cycles with keys in his tight fist. Since then, as far as she knew, only Isaac and Kira got rides on it. Hell, if Stiles wouldn’t sit on it she wouldn’t either (hey, he had to be right about something sometime.)
But then Scott flashed that smile at her and she felt her resolve crumbling. Scott wouldn’t let her get hurt, she told herself as she watched him lift the bike seat to bring out another helmet. This one was red. She’d seen Kira in it before. Her mouth twisted for a brief moment at the thought and then pushed it away. They were good. They were friends. No sense in getting bent out of shape. Before you get bent up being flung over the handlebars! her mind screamed. She batted that away.
“You have a jacket right? That one from your locker?” Scott asked her. She nodded. “You might want to put that on. Just in case. Not that I don’t like your shirt.” He nodded towards her scoop neck tie-dye tee; an afternoon diy stress reliever she made with Perrie, Kira, and Mel. Hers was the only one that ended up looking like an actual tie dye shirt compared to their blotted creations. “But, I mean, it looks a lot better when you don’t have road rash.”
She nodded but couldn’t unlock her elbows from being pinned to her sides as she stared at the green bike. Statistics flashed through her mind. Did you know motorcyclists face more injuries and fatalities than cars? Did you know motorcycles make up 14% of all traffic deaths? Did you know in 42% of all fatal car accidents the vehicle was turning left when a biker was overtaking? Sheesh, if her father wanted to scare her away from something, he really knew how to make a lasting impression.
“Hey.” The tender tone to Scott’s words made her blink and then suck in a breath. He stood so close; she could almost feel the heat radiating off his skin. She could smell the distinct spicy scent of his body wash wafting off him, crashing over her. “Don’t worry, I won’t let anything happen to you. Okay?” He grasped her elbows and gave them a squeeze. “I’ll drive slow.”
His thumbs rubbing over the joints of her elbows—or the lateral condyle as her bio book said—and that was it. She came undone. “Okay,” she said, nodding, swallowing the lump that had risen in her throat.
“Okay,” he repeated. He stepped away and she almost made a noise at the lack of heat near her. Get a grip, Dunbar. This isn’t friend behavior! She turned away from him, ducking her head to wiggle the jacket out of her backpack. She zipped it back up and put it on. It was a little thick for April but it would do on short notice. He held out the spare helmet to her and she took it, briefly look at her reflection in the visor and pulled it down over her head.
The cushioned inside squeezed her face but after a few seconds it grew comfortable. Scott stepped forward and adjusted the strap and then wiggled her head, making sure it fit properly. When he was satisfied, he gave a thumbs up which she mimicked. He slid his helmet over his head with ease, keeping the visor open as he went back to the bike. He stuck the keys in the ignition, swung his leg over the bike, settled on, turned it on, lifted the kickstand, and—
Tessa jumped when the motorcycle roared to life, easing into a settled purr a few seconds later. He pulled on some gloves and then turned to Tessa. “Okay,” he called out over the noise, “you’re going to get on the back. Your feet go here; keep them there. Don’t take them off unless I’m stopped. Don’t touch the exhaust pipe or muffler, you’ll get burned. It gets pretty hot.”
I bet it does, she thought, her eyes roaming Scott from head to toe. It was one thing seeing him ride around on the bike it was another to…experience that up close. The air of danger that came of him in waves and called out to her, dare her to get closer.
“…and lean when I lean. Got it?”
“Oh, yeah! Got it!” Tessa blinked and shook her head and approached the vibrating bike. She eyed where he said to put her feet and, after taking a breath, mounted. It wasn’t too graceful, she felt like a dog lifting their leg for a moment, but managed to settle on and scooted forward until she was comfortable enough in the seat. The vibrating metal beneath her matched the vibrating in her heart as her knees rested on either side of his thighs.
“You’re gonna need to hold on,” Scott called out.
Hold on. Right. Easy enough. She breathed out, breathed in, and leaned forward, wrapping her arms around his midsection, pressing into his back. She thanked god for having the helmet on to cover the bright blush that pooled into her cheeks as she felt his stomach expand and contract with every breath.
Reaching down, Scott patted her crossed arms and then lowered his visor with a snap. “Here we go!” He said and, with a twist of the throttle, he hit the gas.
A little shriek escaped her throat as they gained speed in what felt like the space of a blink, feeling the pull of drag on her body. She held on tighter, the thought of how is this slow? raced through her mind as he pulled out of the school parking lot and took off down the street.
Beacon Hills by motorcycle may as well be a different world than Beacon Hills by car. Being out on the road, wind and scenery rushing by them, her heart thumping beneath the roar of the engine. It was…exhilarating, actually. Nothing around but the road and the lush green trees and the jewel toned sky and the boy with a soft heart. A grin split her face and she rested against his back, tense muscles relaxing.
It wasn’t until they finally came across a red light, the same one she, Lydia, and Allison stopped at the night of the deer accident, that reality came back to her. She tapped him on the shoulder and Scott’s helmeted head turned sideways. “I don’t live this way!” she called to him.
“I know,” he called back. “I’m taking the long way. You doin’ okay?”
Doing okay? She was…she was…hmm. She was with Scott, riding around the empty streets on the edge of Beacon Hills, not being peeled off the ground. And he was taking the long way. To make her more comfortable or just to spend extra time with her, either way, it was sweet, and she was going to recount every minute to Perrie for sure.
In short: she was awesome.
“So, uh…since we’re taking the long way…do you think we could make a pitstop?”
He shrugged. “Sure. Any place in particular?”
“Ruby’s?” Her stomach growled at the thought of going to the city’s teen hangout, a diner in downtown Beacon Hills that had the best shakes and burgers to offer. “My treat.”
He shook his head. “My mom wouldn’t let me take you home and eat with you without offering my share. My treat.”
“Fine.” Tessa’s hidden smile magnified her words. “Then I get the tip.”
“Deal.”
The light turned green and Scott surged forward. This time Tessa let out a little laugh, the noise being carried away by the wind as she held on a little tighter.

Introduction: Hi! I’m Annie, I recently graduated as valedictorian of a class of almost 700, and I’m about to be a freshman at Johns Hopkins (go blue jays!!). High school was some of the best and worst moments of my life, and looking back, there are so many things that I wish I’d done and things that made me successful, so I wanted to share them! Of course, disclaimer, these tips may not apply to everyone!
(These tips generally apply to all classes, but if you have a specific subject you want tips on, I’ve taken these AP courses: european history, world history, us gov’t, macroeconomics, lang, lit, calc ab, chemistry, physics 1, physics c, environmental science, art: drawing, biology, human geography, chinese, and art history. Feel free to message me!)
College applications are a crapshoot- I can’t begin to tell you the number of incredible, brilliant people with extraordinary, international level achievements that got denied at top schools in favor of those lacking those accomplishments. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean those who got in don’t have qualities that earned them a spot, it just speaks to the unpredictable nature of the college application process. When deans of admission at top schools openly say they could reject all admitted students and build the same exemplary class from the waitlist, or that they have enough qualified applicants to fill 3 or 4 classes with, there’s a certain amount of luck involved. Therefore I urge all rising seniors to go into this process realizing that the odds are not in your favor. I went into the process with too much blind hope, too confident in my ability to be that lucky 1 in 10 (or less) that would gain admission, and I was sorely disappointed. So that leads me to my next tip…
Don’t do things just for your college application- Those slim acceptance rates are the exact reason I urge you not to join things solely for how good they look on a college application. It seems counterintuitive; wouldn’t they give you a better chance of acceptance? However, my point is not to dissuade you from extracurriculars, but rather to commit to ones that genuinely make you happy. As I wrote above, the process is so competitive that even international achievements may mean rejection, so don’t waste your high school experience by dedicating so much time and effort to something that you feel obligated to do.
Try everything your freshman and sophomore year- My biggest regret is not joining clubs where my passions lie simply because I was too lazy or scared of things like public speaking my freshman year. It’s much more intimidating to join as upperclassmen, and you may not be able to participate at all the levels/in all the ways people who have dedicated 3-4 years can. Even if you don’t think its for you (like debate for me because of my fear of public speaking), I urge you to expand your horizons and push yourself out of your comfort zone. Many clubs give you great opportunities to build leadership, public speaking, etc. skills and to find your passions.
Know both sides of the flashcard- I learned this tip from my organic chemistry class, and I’d never though about how useful it is. For example, if you’re memorizing polyatomic ions, it’s extremely important that you know both the formula and the name, as either version may show up on the exam. Not doing this also makes the weaknesses in your memorization evident- whenever I study vocab, I tend to glance at the side with the term and only memorize the definition. This meant that when I was given only the definitions, I couldn’t remember the word they defined, because I was so used to being given the vocab word and responding with the definition.
The first lecture of the unit is one of the most important for STEM classes- I know the beginning of the unit can often seem like the perfect time to tune out, as it goes over information you’ve previously learned or the easiest material of the topic, but it often forms the foundation for everything else in the unit. For example, the first lecture on a stoichiometry unit will probably teach you dimensional analysis, a skill integral to calculating molecular or empirical formulas, moles or grams of a substance, etc.
Buy/sell books secondhand- Everyone knows how expensive college textbooks are, but between SAT and AP prep books, and books for English, high school books can cost quite a bit of money too. Unless they redesigned the exam recently, you absolutely don’t need the newest edition of the review book, so buy from upperclassmen and then sell it to underclassmen the following year.
Learn to self study- Unless you’re really lucky, you’re guaranteed to have a teacher who doesn’t teach, teaches badly, or whose teaching style just doesn’t work for you. Personally, I find that self learning, especially if I’m struggling because resources such as textbooks and online explanations, and videos seem to contradict, really helps me understand the topic throughly. In AP bio, my teacher had us create claymation videos on the processes of cellular respiration and photosynthesis independently. It was incredibly frustrating and confusing because all the resources described the cycles in varying degrees of details, but I felt like I genuinely understood the topic, instead of having been spoon-fed the information and memorizing it. Obviously, this method isn’t very efficient for frequent use, but the key is to try to understand the material independently instead of going to the teacher the moment you hit a snag.
Keep your backpack/binders/notebooks reasonably organized- When teachers ask for homework to be passed up and you have to dig through mountains of papers in your backpack, not only is that super stressful, but a lot of teachers won’t let you turn it in after they have already collected all the papers. I was definitely guilty of being lazy and just stuffing papers, once I got them, into my backpack instead of taking a few seconds to slide them into a binder, and as a result I got 0s on lots of homework because either I couldn’t find it at the time or because everything was so messy I didn’t remember there was homework. Try to have some sort of organization system going on or at least a homework folder, because those 0s add up and can be the difference between an 89 and 90.
You’re gonna get senioritis, badly, and that’s ok- I’ve always been the type of person who did every homework assignment and was very focused on grades, so the idea that I would completely let myself ago seemed absurd to me. Don’t underestimate what senior year does to you. I can honestly count on one hand the econ worksheets that I actually turned in during senior year, and I made my first B in a grading period during the spring. I was very stressed about how awful my grades were, but unable to muster the energy to do anything about it. And you know what, it’s ok. It’s senior year, you can give yourself a break. Yes, your senior grades are still important for college applications, so don’t go from straight A’s to straight C’s, but for the most part, all the hard work is behind you. Do keep in mind that these habits may haunt you when you’re a college freshman. I haven’t started classes yet, but based on how little I studied for the math placement exam for my college, senioitis doesn’t magically end when you graduate, so don’t let it get completely out of control during the year.
Learn how to do math without a calculator- If you take either of the AP Calculuses or the SAT, you need to master this skill because there are sections of the exams that are strictly non-calculator. Beyond that, when you get to calculus, you’ll be introduced to complicated concepts, where not being able to multiply by hand will drag you down.
Keep old notes- Not only for finals, but some topics are very interdisciplinary, like biochemistry, so it’s very important that you have a working knowledge of both biology and chemistry. As you take advanced classes, such as for me, taking physics c after physics 1, it will be assumed that you have completely mastered the basics, and they will be skipped or referenced very quickly. It is very useful to look at notes on the basics, which provide the foundation for the advanced material you learn.
Invest in a whiteboard- Whenever I was learning about processes or cycles, from the Krebs cycle to organic chemistry mechanisms, it was really useful to practice drawing the steps over and over again. Then when it came to the test, I could do a brain dump and draw out the information as a reference.
Understand formulas instead of blindly memorizing- This basically has physics and calculus written all over it. In physics, you should be given formula charts during exams, and in any case, something like F=ma isn’t terribly hard to memorize. The problem comes when there are a multitude of formulas that are derived from one of the fundamental equations. Of course, deriving from scratch each time is incredibly tedious, but I want to dissuade you from simply memorizing it or storing it on your calculator, because that means you probably don’t understand the physics behind it. What makes physics so difficult and different from any other subject you’ve taken is that every problem will have a slightly different scenario that tests your understanding of the physics behind it.
Use all the time given to you during tests- I know I hate looking back through my test because I just get so bored halfway through, but missing points because of silly mistakes is honestly the most frustrating thing ever when you had plenty of time to check. Depending on if I have time, I like to cover my original work and resolve the question. If checking answers is not your thing, try slowing now when you first see each question, and checking your work briefly each step.
Form study groups- Talking about something, especially teaching it to someone, always helped me remember something so much better than reading it on paper. It’s also so important to have second interpretations of the information you’re studying to ensure that you don’t make a huge misconception.
AP students: released/practice exams are your best friend- Obviously, they’re the best resources for studying for the AP exam, but they’re also a great tool for a hint at what your teacher’s tests may look like. AP teachers have access to tons of College Board material and will often use questions directly from old exams.
If you start getting confused during a lecture- Many times this is because I didn’t pay attention during the very beginning, so I’m missing that important foundation I talked about in the previous tip. Of course, I typically wouldn’t recommend doing things other than listening to what is currently being taught, but in this case, I would just get more confused and it’s a waste of time. So I discretely go back to my previous notes and focus on understanding them.
The most stressful part of schoolwork is just thinking about your assignments- There’s always specific period of time that threatens to kill me- a week where I had two competitions simultaneously, in cities 3 hours apart. When you’re taking 7 AP classes at the same time, just reading over your to-do list will make you want to cry. Even on a normal day, as I go to classes throughout the day and my list of homework gets longer and longer, it makes me so stressed to where I’m planning out how to finish everything and I’m no longer listening in class. It overwhelmed me so much that I just wanted to take a nap and avoid school. But every single time, stressing about the work I have is 1000x worse than sitting down and actually going through each task. I find that what had seemed impossible before was very doable, and many times I even finished early enough to relax before bed. Keep a positive mindset, don’t underestimate your abilities, and have the discipline to start working immediately on the hardest days, and you’ll be fine. Of course, this doesn’t mean that the workload that is able to be handled by one person can work for another, and things like mental illnesses are things I have no experience in, so this is definitely just something that worked for me and is not applicable to everyone.
Best of luck with high school! If you have any questions, feel free to send me an ask!

Mystery Solved
To: @felicityollies
From: @ginervamariechaseeverdeen (Lauren)
Merry Christmas! I hope you enjoy this hopefully fun high school AU about a mystery, hacktivism, the Arrow, a game of Secret Santa, and the start of Oliver and Felicity’s relationship!
>>––––––––>
“Frack! Of course, I would get stuck with Oliver fracking Queen, Mr. Perfect Billionaire who has everything and anything he could ever want. What in the world am I supposed to get for someone like that?” Felicity ranted to her friend Alena while they sat in her car during lunch.
The two girls first met when Felicity was freshman and Alena was in 8th grade, when Alena’s parents moved her family to Starling City. They had hit it off rather quickly, which was unusual for the two girls who were usually loners, but they bonded over their shared love of tech and eventually discovered another mutual interest—hacktivism. And that was the beginning of Helix, their hacktivism club in which they gave themselves projects ranging from breaking through the school’s pathetic firewall and into the system to fix an unjust grade—there was absolutely no justification for getting a failing grade in PE just because you couldn’t do a perfect pushup— to their current project, finding the identity of the Arrow, a vigilante who had been actively working to take down many of the city’s rich and powerful for the last few months. As well as discovering his identity, they were also trying to determine whether he should be stopped or helped. So far, however, they hadn’t made a lot of headway.
“I don’t know,” Alena replied, “but you should at least be glad your AP Bio teacher is letting you have a Holiday party and do Secret Santa on the last day of class since you’ll have already taken your AP test. Advanced Physics is just studying for the final which will be oh so much fun,” she sighed.
Felicity just laughed. “You take apart a computer and put it back together blindfolded, but physics just might defeat the mighty Alena. On another note, any leads on the Arrow?”
“I think he’s working out of the Glades. See?” she turned her laptop to face Felicity, and on the screen, were several videos taken from CCTV showing the Arrow riding his motor cycle down the same few streets in the Glades.
“He’s smart. He isn’t taking the same route every time, but he’s not that smart, because he’s just switching between four different routes. Now if we look at these streets on an overhead map, we should be able to triangulate his point of origin.”
“I completely agree, but that might have to wait until after school because the lunch bell should be ringing in three, two, one.”
A shrill ringing sounded from the school and all the students who had been eating outdoors despite the chilly December weather began to head back inside.
“It’s a little eerie how good you are at that,” Felicity laughed as she turned off her car and climbed out.
“It’s a gift,” Alena responded a bit sarcastically. “See you after seventh period?”
“Yep! And then we can get back to work on our project. Mom’s working the late shift again tonight, so my house is open.”
“Sounds good!”
The two girls separated to go to their respective classes, Felicity heading to AP Biology. The AP test was tomorrow, so she probably should have been paying better attention, but her thoughts kept coming back to Oliver Queen and what she should get him for Secret Santa. Despite the fact that they hardly spoke, Felicity liked to think she knew him pretty well. He was a year ahead of her, and his first three years of high school, Oliver was a notorious party boy, skating by in his classes and dating every pretty girl in school, but mostly Laurel Lance, his on again off again girlfriend since middle school. After his father had died in a boating accident last summer however, something had changed. He stopped partying so much, started actually trying in his classes, was currently off again with Laurel, and maybe for good this time, and apparently got into weight lifting. Because he had gotten really buff, not that Felicity paid much attention or anything.
Oh, who was she kidding. Oliver Queen was really cute and every girl in the school knew it. Not that it mattered what she thought of him. Oliver Queen had a very specific type: tall, blonde, and beautiful. So, a short goth chick with black hair and purple highlights didn’t exactly fit the bill.
“Maybe I can get him some workout clothes,” Felicity muttered unintentionally to herself, staring at the muscles in Oliver’s arms. Her brain to mouth filter was a bit faulty from time to time.
“What was that Miss Smoak?” Mr. Raymond, the teacher, asked and all eyes were immediately on Felicity.
“Nothing,” she said softly and began blushing, staring down at her desk.
“I know this material may not be challenging to some of you,” Mr. Raymond said looking at her pointedly, “but that does not mean that other students do not need this review session. So please refrain from speaking in class.” Then he began to carry on with the review.
When the bell rang at the end of class, Felicity gathered her things and began to walk towards her last class of the day. Before she could make it out of the Biology room however, someone called her name.
“Felicity Smoak?”
She turned around to see that it was Oliver Queen talking to her. Well this was an interesting turn of events.
“Yes, that’s me,” she replied.
“I’m Oliver Queen.”
“I knew that. I mean I think everyone in this school or maybe even the whole city knows that. But you were probably just trying to be polite and introduce yourself and I’m babbling like an idiot which will stop in three, two, one. Can I help you with something?”
“Yes actually, I’m having a bit of trouble with my computer, and I hear that you’re really good with them. I was wondering if you could maybe take a look at it.”
“Uh sure. What seems to be the problem?”
“Can I bring it to you tomorrow? It won’t even turn on right now, so I didn’t bother bringing it today.”
“Any ideas why it won’t turn on?”
“Um, I spilled a latte on it,” Oliver responded like he wasn’t completely sure that was the reason.
“Okay then. I’ll look at it and see what I can do. Just bring it to me tomorrow morning. I’ve got to head to class now. Don’t want to be late! Bye Oliver!” she called as she sped out the door and into the hallway.
“Thanks Felicity,” Oliver said, grinning a little as she hurried away.
>>––––––––>
That afternoon, Felicity and Alena took up residence in what was formerly the spare bedroom and had, over the years they lived in Starling City, turned into Felicity’s office and computer workshop as well as Helix’s unofficial base of operations.
“Any luck discovering his base?” Alena asked.
“If my calculations are correct—” Felicity began.
“And they always are!” Alena interrupted her before smiling sheepishly and motioning for Felicity to continue her thought.
“If they’re correct, then the Arrow Cave is somewhere on this block,” Felicity said as she pointed at a street with practically nothing on it.
“Well that makes no sense,” Alena said. “All that’s there is the Queen’s old steel foundry and that shut down years ago. Why would his base be in an abandoned part of town?”
“I know right! It would make so much more sense to work from a populated area so that he could come and go without attracting so much notice on CCTV as the only person who ever went there.”
“Exactly. Also, I’ve cross referenced the list of all his victims so far, and I think you’re right. It’s not just the rich and powerful he’s after. It’s the corrupt rich who abuse their power. With a little more digging, I found lots of dirt on all the victims that could have potentially landed them in jail if the SCPD was actually competent and active in the Glades,” Alena told her friend.
“Have you figured out who he’ll go after next?”
“Well, I have a list, and it keeps growing. There doesn’t seem to be much of a pattern to the order he’s going after these guys, so it could be any of these people or even someone we haven’t thought of.”
“Well I guess our best course of action would be to hack the CCTV near the old Queen steel foundry and see if anything turns up in the next few days. Speaking of the Queens, you’ll never guess what happened to me today.”
“You figured out what to get Oliver for Secret Santa?”
“Nope. But it does have to do with Oliver. He asked me to fix his computer because he apparently spilled a latte on it.”
“Well he came to the best. I’m just surprised his parents won’t just buy him a new one. It’s not like they can’t afford it.”
“Well, the whole thing was a bit suspicious. I mean, Oliver Queen has never spoken to me that I can recall, and then he didn’t seem super sure about his latte story. He’s bringing it tomorrow, so we can take a look at it and see if anything is up.”
>>––––––––>
The next morning, Oliver Queen approached Felicity as soon as she got out of her car holding a laptop riddled with what appeared to be bullet holes.
“Uh, that doesn’t look like you spilled a latte on it,” Felicity blurted out.
“Well, good morning to you too, and my coffee shop is in a bad neighborhood,” Oliver replied with a grin and shrug before handing her the laptop.
“So, I’ll take a look at it and see what I can do. I’ll let you know by the end of the day tomorrow if I’ve salvaged anything.”
“Thank you, Felicity! I really appreciate it!”
“You’re welcome, see you later Oliver,” Felicity said quickly as she put the laptop into her backpack and dashed inside to find Alena before their first class of the day.
“Alena,” Felicity furiously whispered as she found her friend at her locker. “You have to see this!”
“What? Why are you being weird?” Alena asked, very confused.
“Oliver gave me his laptop in the parking lot and you’ll never believe what it looks like. Here look,” Felicity told her as she shoved her open backpack into Alena’s face.
“Uh dang, his coffee shop must be in a bad neighborhood or something…”
“Yeah that’s what he said,” Felicity muttered, frustrated with all the secrecy. “How in the world did Oliver Queen get a laptop riddled with bullet holes?”
“No idea. I think we need to investigate this at lunch.”
“Most definitely. There’s definitely some funny business going on here.”
“Do you think it has something to do with our secret project?” Alena whispered as the girls headed to first period.
“But why would Oliver Queen be involved with the Arrow?”
“Well he is rich…”
“Yeah but I don’t think it’s necessarily on par with the previous victims.”
“Maybe he has a deep dark secret!” Alena whispered with a chuckle.
“Oh yes,” Felicity responded with biting sarcasm as they walked into their classroom, “he’s secretly using his wealth to force the citizens of the Glades to do his bidding. Honestly though, this is weird.”
>>––––––––>
“Okay,” Felicity said as she sat in her car with Alena at lunch that day, “hook me up!”
Alena plugged the cord coming out of Felicity’s computer into Oliver’s very dead laptop so that Felicity could attempt to extract any surviving data off the hard drive.
“Well, well, what do we have here?” Felicity asked as she looked through the data she was pulling from the destroyed computer. “It seems that Mr. Queen is taking things that don’t belong to him. This computer says it belongs to a Mr. Warren Patel.”
“And a quick search on him tells us that our dear Mr. Patel is rich and is competing with Oliver’s new stepdad to buy Unidac Industries. Oh, and surprise, surprise, he’s on my list of potential future Green Arrow victims,” Alena informed Felicity.
“Why would Oliver have his laptop? Do you think it’s some sort of corporate espionage? I mean, couldn’t they have had someone at Queen Consolidated attempt to salvage the laptop if it was? And I still can’t figure out how the laptop got shot up in the first place,” Felicity babbled.
Alena gasped, putting pieces together as Felicity babbled. “What if…” she trailed off.
“He couldn’t be. There’s no way!”
“But our footage from last night shows the Arrow definitely going to the old Queen foundry, so that’s got to be his base. And Oliver has gotten suspiciously buff this year which matches the Arrow’s description. Think about it. And now he’s got this laptop. It just adds up,” Alena argued.
“I mean, I guess you could be right. Now that I think about it, based on the SCPD’s witness descriptions of the Arrow, he seems to have the build of a teenager or someone in their early 20s rather than an older guy. And I’m almost positive I remember something about Oliver taking archery lessons in middle school. And it would make sense that he wouldn’t be going to parties anymore if he’s out all night as the Arrow…”
“I think we might have finally found him. Hey, what’s that?” Alena asked, pointing at Felicity’s laptop which was now displaying a blueprint of the exchange building.
“If Oliver really is the Arrow, he must be after someone at Unidac Industries auction. But why would Warren Patel have had blueprints of this building. Unless of course he’s planning to try something at the auction this weekend which would make him a valid target for the Arrow.”
“Felicity, I think we’ve got to get this to Oliver. If he really is the Arrow, which despite the evidence, I still think is insane, then he’ll need this information.”
“Yes, but what if Oliver’s not the Arrow? I still think we need to get this info to the right guy…”
“True. But how can we tell for sure. We can’t just go up to the guy and ask him point blank without seeming like we’ve gone nuts.”
“And it could be dangerous. What if he doesn’t want anyone to know his secret? But Alena, just imagine if he is the Arrow! You would never be able to make fun of me for my tiny crush on Oliver ever again. I mean he would basically have the total package: handsome, mysterious, strong, fighting for justice…” Felicity began to babble again sharing more than she initially intended.
“Felicity, you can stop with the many virtues of the new and improved Oliver Queen. He’ll probably get back with Laurel again before you know it. Arrow or not, you should probably move on. You know Cooper has been hinting that he wants to take you to the Christmas dance.”
“No way Alena. Coop may be pretty cute and smart, but can you honestly tell me he doesn’t seem just a bit devious.”
“Felicity, that’s a load of crap and you know it,” Alena laughed. “But let’s get back to the subject. How do we figure out for sure if Oliver’s the Arrow without asking him outright?”
“Hey! I’ve got an idea!”
“What?”
“So, Secret Santa is tomorrow, and I have the perfect idea for a gift for Oliver.” Felicity told Alena with a smile.
“Which is…” Alena urged her friend to continue.
>>––––––––>
“Thank you everyone for bringing your Secret Santa gifts. Please come up to my desk to find the package with your name on it. You may then open them and try to determine who your Secret Santa is. After that, we will enjoy some of the wonderful looking snacks you all bought while we watch a Christmas movie. Now let’s begin this holiday party,” said Mr. Raymond.
Everyone grabbed their gifts, returned to their seat, and opened them, eager to see what they had received. Felicity was too busy watching Oliver open his gift from her to pay attention to the bag with her gift. As soon as he opened the box to see a Nerf bow and arrow, a brief look of worry appeared on Oliver’s face before he schooled his expression into a more neutral look.
That look was all the confirmation Felicity needed. Oliver definitely had the look of a guilty man on his face when he saw the bow. He looked worried that someone knew his secret, so Felicity planned to confront him with the laptop after school. Turning her attention to the movie, Felicity forgot about her unopened gift that sat on her desk.
>>––––––––>
At the end of the day, Felicity and Oliver both approached each other in the parking lot.
“Can we talk somewhere more private?” Oliver asked tensely.
“We can sit in my car if you want,” Felicity offered.
“Let’s go then.”
“Okay, this one’s mine. It might be a tight fit…”
“I’ll manage,” was Oliver’s only reply.
After the two squeezed into Felicity’s tiny car, she pulled out the laptop and handed it to Oliver as well as a flash drive with all the information she extracted from it.
“So, this laptop isn’t yours—” she started to say before Oliver interrupted her.
“How did you find out I’m the Arrow? I know you were my Secret Santa Felicity, but how did you figure it out?” he asked gruffly.
“Well it wasn’t that hard after my partner and I put the pieces together. You have the right build, you used to take archery lessons, you’re never at parties anymore, and you gave me this sketchy most definitely bullet ridden laptop. And it’s most definitely not yours. Mysteries bug me. They need to be solved. By the way, that flash drive contains blueprints of the exchange building where the auction for Unidac Industries is occurring tomorrow. One in which both your stepdad and Mr. Warren Patel, the owner of this laptop, are participating in. And it seems like Patel is up to something suspicious.”
“Are you going to tell anyone?” Oliver asked point blank.
“No. I think you’re doing a good thing. I don’t exactly agree with your methods, especially the killing, I really wish you wouldn’t do that, but if I were going to turn you in for being a vigilante, I’d have to turn myself in for being a hacktivist, and I have no plans to do that anytime soon.”
A small smile appeared on Oliver’s face. “Felicity Smoak, you are remarkable.”
“Thanks for remarking on it,” she replied with a shrug and grin.
“You know it’s funny,” Oliver told her.
“What?” Felicity asked very confused.
“Did you even open your Secret Santa gift?”
“Uh no, I actually was more concerned with being sure if you were the Arrow based on your reactions to your gift. I think it’s in my backpack though.”
“Why don’t you open it?”
“Uh okay then…” Felicity trailed off as she pulled the bag out of her backpack, pulled out the tissue paper, and found a sprig of mistletoe inside as well as a Bill Gates biography.
She made eye contact with Oliver, and he smiled back.
“I was your Secret Santa. It’s kind of funny that we both got each other. I wanted to get you something you might enjoy and something symbolic. Felicity, ever since you and your mom moved to Starling City, I’ve been fascinated with you. You’re smart and kind and you don’t care what anyone thinks of you. And most of all, you stand up for what’s right. I never realized before this year that I kind of liked you. I think I have all along, but I was too caught up in my old lifestyle and in Laurel that I never really looked at you like that.
“I’ve been trying to come up with a way to talk to you all year, but then I decided that I didn’t want to put you in danger by associating myself with you. If my enemies ever find out who I am, my friends and family will all become targets. But, this computer stumped me, and I hoped you might be able to help. So, anyways, Merry Christmas Felicity,” Oliver told her stunning Felicity into silence. He slowly started to lean towards her when Felicity interrupted him.
“I’m Jewish,” she blurted out.
“Well then, Happy Hanukah,” Oliver chuckled and then leaned back in.
Felicity met him half way and their lips met in a soft kiss.
“I’ve had dreams about this,” Felicity mumbled.
“You have?” Oliver asked, smiling.
“I said that out loud didn’t I?” Felicity panicked.
“Yes, but I like that you speak your mind.”
“At least someone does. By the way, do you happen to have any openings for tech support in this whole Arrow venture? My partner and I have decided that you need the help, and if this laptop is any indication, you do not treat technology with the care it deserves.”
“Are you sure you know what you’re getting into? You know the risks?”
“As a matter of fact, I do. The members of Helix already break the law to fight for justice. We just want to join forces with you so that we can all be more effective,” Felicity explained.
“And Alena is trustworthy too?”
“What? How did you know she’s my partner?” Felicity asked, thrown for a loop.
“You’re not the only one good at solving mysteries,” he said simply.
“Well, okay then. Yes, she’s trustworthy. You have to be good at keeping secrets to do what we do.”
“Then I’ll see you both at— “
“At the old Queen Steel Foundry in the Glades tonight at 7. We’ll be there.”
“I think I need to stop underestimating you Felicity Smoak.”
“Like I said, mysteries need to be solved.”

Hello tumblr, my guy, my buddy, my ol’ pal.
So here’s the thing. I found this awesome website online (actually,, some girl in one of my college groupchats sent it out to help us other freshies) and I love it and I’m super grateful for it because it’s allowing me to make my 4-year plan super easily without having papers all over the place and pencil markings and clutter. Really, it’s an amazing tool, and it’s truly a beautiful thing that my school is filled with so many computer science nerds who just want to help everyone as much as possible. First the website for the schedule, now the website for the 4-year plan? Incredible.
The problem is not with the website (it’s truly a wonderful thing). The problem is my desire to complete a minor in Spanish. I’ve been taking Spanish classes in school since seventh grade. It’s been a rough ride at some points, but I got a 5 on the AP exam, and that’s really what counts at the end of the day. Unfortunately, with my desire to go to pharmacy school, I’ve got a bunch of other requirements that I have to complete, some of them beginning as early as my freshman year. I’ll have to take five Spanish classes in order to earn the minor. From the way my schedule is looking, I may not be able to do them consecutively which is a HUGE shame because a big part of language learning is engaging in the language on a regular basis (reading, writing, listening, speaking, even thinking), and I won’t be getting that. Even if I decide to take Spanish this fall, I couldn’t reasonably take it in the Spring (technically I suppose I could, but there’s literally no sense taking 18 credits if I don’t have to, especially not my freshman year when I would have a full courseload without it already). If I decided to still go for the minor, I could be done by the end of my junior year which wouldn’t be bad and it would leave me with a little bit of leeway in case one of the classes I want to take gets filled.
Speaking of classes getting filled: I looked at a lot of my course requirements (I really wanted to do the cell biology series as my Bio Lower- and Upper-Level Requirements, but I have to take Microbiology for pharmacy school instead, so if I still want to do it I’ll just have to add an extra class to my plan), and a lot of them are filled to the brim with awfully long waitlists. Imagine getting to your junior year and there’s a class you have to take in order to continue with your major requirements and it’s full. What do you even do at that point?
I don’t really like that I’m leaving a lot of my gen-eds to the end of my senior year at all. This is different from high school where the guidance counselors will make sure that you get into your required classes. Here, it’s totally down to you and your preparation. I’m getting the feeling that I have to be ready at a moments notice to go in for advising so that I can create my schedule as soon as possible or else I’m going to end up with a problem. This is actually causing me a tad bit of anxiety over the process. I don’t want to be kept from graduating on time because I can’t register for a single specific class.
I think I’m going to try to take at least two requirements for pharmacy school each year which should bring me up to eight courses over four years. And then there are the courses that will already be covered as a result of my major... I’ll calculate it all out at some point.
I’ll need to take the foreign language placement test first before anything gets set in stone, but it looks like I might be skipping Spanish class this upcoming Spring. That should be okay, at least I’ll get a start with college Spanish.
I’m just worried that all of the good and fun and easy gen-ed classes are going to be reserved for freshmen (like they were this year) when I want to take them since I can’t take too many of them yet due to the massive number of pre-requisites I’ve got to get done. This really is a lot to think about, but I’m honestly just so thankful for this website.
Oh, and also? I got a headache after writing that first part so I won’t be able to finish a hundred pages before going to bed tonight :(
July 12, 2019
Update: Nothing was wrong! I was overreacting!! I have, in fact, not dishonored my entire existence and am currently in the process of planning our second DnD day for this arc. Finally, I can breathe easy (instead of, you know, my heart beginning to race every time I wondered why everyone had gone on radio silence).
Also, I bought “Super High Rise Skinny Ankle” jeans today and they’re lovely. They’re super stretchy (just as I like my fake denim), and it means that the only thing missing from my denim wardrobe right now is a pair of comfy mom jeans. I might try to order some of those online. I think I need to start planning out my ~style~ for college so that I’ve got at least a somewhat consistent look going on. As I’ve said before, I want to feel comfortable with everything that I wear, and I don’t want to wonder about what I’m going to pull from my closet next (besides, I’ve heard that you end up wearing way fewer clothes in college (though I’ll probably still buy a bunch)). I’d like to go for sort of a soft grunge look, if that makes sense. Time to go on a Pinterest pinning spree!
Unpopular Opinion: Disliking something that other people like is not a character trait! No one wants to praise you for it!
When you say/comment something like “Oh, I never wasted any of my time on Game of Thrones, and I’m happier for it” or whatever, it just makes you seem like a pretentious prick, not a wise old sage. And I know that’s true because I, myself, am often a pretentious prick, so it’s easier for me to spot the people who want to look better than everyone else in the eyes of others. Honestly, it’s one of the worst things you can say to someone/around people who like The Thing. They don’t care! They find enjoyment in Game of Thrones or WWE (which I can’t stand but that’s because it’s not for me and I’m not going to push it into other people’s faces that I dislike something they enjoy) or Harry Potter or even a religion or literally anything and that’s what matters, not your dislike of The Thing. It’s just not nice.
This isn’t me saying that people shouldn’t have/express negative opinions. I think counterculture can, in some cases, be beneficial to the overall mainstream culture. It’s just the whole, “Well, I don’t like The Thing because I’m an intellectual and I’m insinuating that you are not through this expression,” which is disgusting. Go ahead! Hold Game of Thrones in contempt because it displays the worst parts of human nature (human nature is often awful though, don’t forget that) in a super extra way (I haven’t watched the show yet, but I’ve heard that it can get to be a bit much at times (I have read the book and even that gets to be a bit much at times))! Just don’t bring that up in a group of people who like The Thing. Spoiler Alert: They will likely not change their minds about The Thing, nor will they suddenly begin to like you more.
Speaking of Game of Thrones! The book just keeps getting wilder and wilder. [Spoiler Alert] I knew Sansa was going to end up betraying her family for the life she wanted. I feel bad for her, but I still knew it was going to happen. Also, reading about that ice zombie thing late at night was terrifying. I cannot stand the thought of undead things so I hated that a lot (but plot points and monsters and magic, oh my!). Last but certainly not least, I really hope Arya is okay. I love her with all my heart and I just want her to be safe. I mean I also want her to tear out the hearts of those who have wronged her and her family, but most of all I want her to be safe. That’s all I’m at liberty to say at this point, I think. I’m going to try to get through another hundred or so pages before I head to bed tonight.
I’m thinking about going through my posts and adding tags to them to sort them. I’ve got over a thousand posts, so it’ll take a while, but I think I’d like to do that for the sake of organization.
Additionally, Pewdiepie as the biggest Minecraft channel? I dig it.
Today I’m thankful for these new jeans. I’m going to go try on a bunch of my outfits after writing this and I’m sure I’m going to love practically every last one of them. Life’s going to be grand.

4.26.17 - a visual summary of my life for the past two weeks. i'm pretty proud of myself for the psat score considering i didn't study well! 17. Q: What are some of your favorite studyblrs? A: I love every studyblr I follow so check them out in my sidebar!! 18. Q: How do you like to take notes? What method is your favorite? A: I literally just will take handwritten notes with bullets being the most important, dashes next important, arrows being examples/effects/what it leads to, and stars being specifics/need to know! I like it a lot and it's just efficient for me. Other ways I've heard of and like are post it notes in textbooks to summarize, cornell notes, and mind maps! 19. Q: What’s your must-have piece of stationery? A: 100% sticky notes. I love them, I use them all the time, and I can't live without them. 20. Q: Where are you hoping to be 5 years from now? 10? 15? A: In five years, I want to be in college at NYU and to have figured out what I want to be. In ten, out of school and working a job and (maybe) married to someone I love a lot. 21. Q: What are some of your subject-specific study tips? A: I'm going to break it down by subject: • Science: Study concepts, not specifics unless told to, it's a waste of memory to study everything. I found this out the hard way this year with AP Bio. • Foreign Language: Look at patterns + find exceptions to the patterns! Also, listen, speak, and write in the language you are learning even when you are not in class, it helps a LOT! • ROP/Hands-on Classes: Stay on top of assignments + if you miss one, ask to make it up, they'll always give you something :)! • Math: Study processes/formulas, not exact problems unless instructed to, it helps save a lot of brain space! • Native Language: Pay attention!!! Your teacher may mention stuff that you need to do or will help you later! • History: Study causes + effects unless instructed to by your teacher, it's easier!! 22. Q: How much noise do you like when you’re studying? Do you like to listen to music/white noise, or does it need to be silent? A: Oddly enough, I can do both! With music, it just takes me longer to get into studying, but I can do it, but I prefer silence, so I tend to do my homework at night 🌙 23. Q: What gets you out of bed in the morning?
