I was gonna reblog this already after seeing the first addition but then gamlain came in and what the fuck I’m W H E E Z I N G
“disadvantaged background” that’s INSA-HA-HA-HA-HANE HAHAHA
PLEASE does the name “Drake Manor” mean NOTHING to you? 🤣🤣🤣
OK I know this is beating a dead horse with regards to criticising dumb writing decisions but how did Tim get to be “the smart Robin” when damian had a PhD level education in economics at 10?
#No nonono crap I’ve fallen to the dark side again#except I really don’t think this even counts as anti Tim#bc that person has GOTTA be memeing us#so I won’t tag it as such#Honestly can’t even be mad bc that troll is high key funny#I must admit that Damian’s insane level of education definitely bugs me#like#not only would he have not physically had the time to learn all that stuff#but he was also trained to be an ASSASSIN#not a Certified Expert In Everything TM#so why were his trainers wasting time giving him a useless PHD level education in some random subject that probably couldn’t even land him#a good job#At like age six#instead of him studying the blade (more)?#However#this is funny#so I’ll oblige#funni#also he tries so hard to prove himself I think he’s lying a lot#I choose to believe he was very academically smart and learned quick and got a very good education#but like#not nearly as much as he claims#Bc a PHD level in 6 subjects at age 7 is more like a joke from The Simpsons than an exaggerated backstory element#But still#I see no reason why Damian shouldn’t help Tim with his homework#especially if he was passive aggressive about it#it would be so funny

I am gonna bounce off these tags to talk about one of my favorite characters :P
#I must admit that Damian’s insane level of education definitely bugs me#like#not only would he have not physically had the time to learn all that stuff#but he was also trained to be an ASSASSIN#not a Certified Expert In Everything TM#so why were his trainers wasting time giving him a useless PHD level education in some random subject that probably couldn’t even land him#a good job#At like age six
So, I think that the insane level of education definitely is a comic-book-ism that couldn't happen in reality, but... lots of other characters get those so I don't mind :P No olympic archer is as accurate as comic book archers are, Bruce and other Batfam members are also portrayed as having insanely specialized skills they haven't dedicated a ton of time to (Bruce DC comics even wants us to believe is "near best in the world" for some ridiculous stuff which I think is way more of a stretch).
But anyway focusing on the "he was trained to be an assassin, not a certified expert in everything"
In his very first appearance, that might be true (they don't explain a lot of what his childhood was like period, other than he was raised by assassins, has experience living in caves, and his mother wasn't there for him).
But once he becomes an established character who Morrison's not intending on killing at the end of 4 issues, we do see that he was trained far beyond regular assassin training.
Batman and Robin #0, which is the issue that I think focuses most on his training, gets into it
He's not supposed to just be an assassin, he's supposed to master the arts and combat to prove there's nothing he can't do. Which makes sense for Ra's given that we see Ra's (especially in his early days) really respect various intellectuals, so I think him wanting his grandson/heir to be 'just' an assassin would be OOC.
Batman 666 also refers to Damian as 'trained from birth by the masters of the league of assassins to be the warrior-king of a new dark age', which would involve lots of fighting, but there are also a lot of skills he needs besides fighting.
And he indicates in Batman Incorporated that he has a lot more skills than standard superheroing (which lines up with his actions and abilities in other comics)
Batman Incorporated (2012) #1
And later on we do see him being the one to un-fuck Wayne financial stuff when it's in messed up and make the Batmobile fly. He definitely was given training way beyond typical assassin training
OK I know this is beating a dead horse with regards to criticising dumb writing decisions but how did Tim get to be “the smart Robin” when damian had a PhD level education in economics at 10?
