What’s your favorite episode and why?
I've loved Double Dipper and The Time Traveler's Pig the most.
I feel they're the perfect Gravity Falls episodes in terms of balancing the mystery element of the show with the characters and just being funny while also sharing important lessons.
I feel like they have far better rewatchability than say, Not What He Seems. And what I mean by that is not that they're better than NWHS, but that you can rewatch them more so over and over again and still have fun while NWHS is more an episode that hits hardest the first time and then is one you have to sorta control your rwatching of cause doing so too much can numb you to the shock factor it's meant to have. I mean, the plot heavy GF episodes are the ones I've rewatched fewer times for that very reason.
Meanwhile even after probably rewatching Double Dipper and TTP more times than I can count, they still are a joy to watch.
They're everything I love about Gravity Falls!

I'm very glad the Nimona movie was pretty good not only because i loved the graphic novel and the movie went through so much turbulence just to be released, but also because i got into several arguments in tiktok comment sections with people saying it was gonna be bad and i cannot handle when people dislike things i like
#its like a 7/10 or an 8/10 i think#assuming a 5/10 is like a regular schmegular movie#also one of the commentors said 'they canceled inside job for this??' in response to the trailer and like#first of all no they did not thats like saying 'they canceled i am not okay with this for inside job??' the two are not related#second of all. inside job is not that good#sorry it was rlly unfunny and kinda boring#sucks that it got canceled but i wont miss it too much personally#and thats ignoring the potential antisemitism and the time the alien mushroom character called a black kid 'tyrone' in the 80s episode#anyway yeah sorry but nimona was pretty good if you like gay cartoons for children like i do#nimona

4 for the wip asks :)
Thank you so much!! :D
Sincerely, Me is a very rough WIP name for this WIP fic. It takes place in the universe of the musical Dear Evan Hansen, and it came about because I had the biggest desire in the world to write something Kleinsen-related (Evan Hansen x Jared Kleinman). It actually technically takes place in the movie universe, and I don't even particularly like the movie (I have thoughts). I don't hate it or anything, but it could've been done so much better. Anyway, I made it part of the movie universe so some good content could come from there. So, I guess I'd have to call it Kalsen (Evan Hansen x Jared Kalwani) because they changed his last name for the movie.
It's mainly centered around their daughter, Paige, and her best friend, Tyrone. Paige is Cis and Panromantic, and Tyrone is Trans Masc and Straight. They were definitely a fun duo to write, even though I didn't write that much for this fic. I was actually planning on it being a big, multi-chapter fic, but I might just try to make it a Oneshot so I can just finish it and post it. I'm not sure I can make it a big, multi-chapter fic with this concept, anyway.
Here's a little excerpt for you:
She didn’t answer, opting instead to glance at the trees. “I’m surprised you didn’t mention Jared being Indian first.”
She was well aware of his distaste for her calling her dads by their first names. In her opinion, it was entertaining watching his mouth become agape whenever she did this, so sometimes she’d do it on purpose. It never mattered to her--it was sometimes necessary, to distinguish them, and the two of them weren’t fretful of this habit. However, Tyrone always suggested she call Evan “Dad” and Jared “Pitā” instead, which is the Hindi word for Father.
She never listened to this advice.
Tyrone began chasing a pebble with his shoe, “Well, he mentions being Jewish a lot more than he does being Indian.”
She sighed, crossing her arms as a sudden, harsh breeze cut through them, “I guess you’re not wrong.”
He didn’t stop harassing the pebble even when they approached her house. It was pretty average, as far as regular houses in suburbia went, being all beige and harsh corners, as well as a roof sharp enough to poke Santa on his journey every Christmas (she stole that joke from Jared).
Annnnd here's another excerpt that comes a little later!
“Paige?” She heard an all-too familiar voice float from the kitchen. “Is that you?”
“Yeah, Dad.” She began striding towards the source as Tyrone shot her a look. “It’s not as if I call them by their first names all the time.”
Jared was perched over the stove, nursing a bottle of water as he continued frying something on a pan. He enjoyed nursing a bottle of alcohol instead on some late nights, but he was trying to consume less for Bri’s sake. “Sorry about your sister. I thought she was going to be napping around now, but I guess it was my mistake assuming she would do anything I expect.”
Paige let out a snicker, “It’s fine, you know Ty loves her anyway.”
She leaned closer, trying to sneak a peek at his latest concoction, “I thought you wouldn’t be home. What is that?”
“I took the day off. It’s Rosh Hashanah, remember? This is chicken breast with leeks and potatoes. Your dad should be coming home soon from the park.”
Paige felt her hand connecting hard with her face, “Oh God. Oh no. I can’t believe I forgot!”
A strength she always prided herself on was her ability to remember dates more so than everyone else in her family. The fact this one slipped by her was frustrating, to say the least--not to mention Rosh Hashanah was always her favorite Jewish holiday to celebrate. Perhaps Grace was making her more distracted than she first thought.
She turned towards Tyrone, “I’m sorry, I still can’t believe I forgot about this. I was hoping we’d be able to hang out tonight.”
“Well, I can’t see why he can’t stay for dinner.”
Her mouth agape, she turned on her heel to face Jared again, “Who are you and what have you done with my father?”
When he gave her a questioning look, she continued, “You’ve never let anyone stay over for Rosh Hashanah. It’s family time.”
Tyrone gasped, bouncing on the toes of his feet, “Does this mean… you consider me family?”
Paige grit her teeth and elbowed her friend, a fruitless attempt to calm him. One of the things that annoyed Jared the most was people who weren’t part of the family trying to insert themselves into their tight-knight dynamic. Sure, it seemed for a while Tyrone was the exception, but it was still thin ice to tread. A reason why was because someone else, someone older, tried doing the same some time back, and ended up uprooting all of their lives once it was revealed they were a no-good scam-artist. And, for irony’s sake, that person ended up being Grace’s current foster father.
Just for some context, Bri is Paige's little sister (So Evan and Jared have two daughters) and Grace is Paige and Tyrone's bully (mostly Paige's). And I was planning on having it be revealed to Paige the first time all of the events of the musical (Connor's death, The Connor Project, Evan's speech, etc.), which was never mentioned to her before because Evan and Jared were too embarrassed by it all. They kind of wanted to sweep it under the rug, which evidently wasn't the best way to handle the situation.
#ask game#dear evan hansen#this is actually so fun to do#sorry for it not being bob's burgers related but this fic still holds a bit of a place in my heart#i actually kind of miss it and do want to finish it one day. if i recall correctly there aren't any kleinsen parent fics#so i really wanted to get on that. and making grace tyrone paige and bri to flesh out the world here was fun#i think part of me headcanons that tyrone used to have a bit of a crush on paige but got over pretty quick (they're just besties)#i like to think paige and grace might have something going on later because i was planning on making grace a complicated character#and giving her a whole redemption arc

OH MY GOD I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONY ONE 😭
Tyrone was my absolute favorite but when they did THAT . I think it was scary because he usually doesn’t look like that. Shadows as a kid are spooky so that but on our comfort character is a nightmare. Plus his eyes look so blank and that’s uncharacteristic.
LIKE BRO DON’T DO THAT I LOVE YOU
You know what, I’ve been tagged in so many of these tagging games, I’m gonna start one of my own!
This came up in a conversation with my friends, so I just gotta know:
What was your childhood fear (and why)?
What haunted your dreams, made you afraid of every shadow, and caused you to ask your parents to check in your closet and under your bed?
Since this is my tagging game, I’ll get the ball rolling with:
THIS. FUCKING. THING.
For those who don’t know, this is Tyrone from Backyardigans and this episode is called “Whodunit”. Backyardigans was my childhood, and I still watch it from time to time, but this episode absolutely creeped me out as a child.
Tyrone is a sweetheart and I love him in any other episode, but…
👆👆👆
LOOK AT THIS!!
LOOK AT HIM!!
LOOK AT HOW CREEPY THEY MADE HIM IN THIS EPISODE!!
THIS IS SCARY FOR A LITTLE KID!!
HE LITERALLY MADE HIS FIRST APPEARANCE BY POPPING OUT OF THE MIST!!
THEN RAN AROUND THE SHADOWS LIKE A FREAKING GOBLIN!!
I LITERALLY HAD NIGHTMARES ABOUT THIS DUDE!!
For those I tag, you don’t have to participate if you’re not comfortable sharing, especially if it’s a sensitive topic. But if it’s an embarrassment thing, I started it off by saying I was afraid of a cartoon character that was only creepy for one particular episode. We don’t judge here. This is a safe space.

Trying to get more into old movies because of this blog (I only know about half of these people and feel like a poser) do you have good recommendations on where to start or is it just a situation where you watch stuff and find what you like as you go?
you are not a poser <3 i myself am just here for the hotties.
here is my quick and dirty list of fun films to start with if you're new to old movies. and of course if you like one of these, do try to find more stuff as you go! there's no bad way to try out old movies.
(this list is not official and is SUPER quick. i'm tagging for content warnings where I can, but if I forgot something let me know.)
"I want to watch something SILLY!"
The Court Jester (Danny Kaye, Angela Lansbury, Glynis Johns, Basil Rathbone)—everyone in this movie is hot. everyone is in fancy medieval dress, which makes them hotter. everyone here is very silly. You can stream this on Hoopla, last time i checked, so you might be able to stream it through your library!
Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang (Dick Van Dyke, Sally Ann Howes, Lionel Jeffries, Gert Frobe)—some people hate this movie and to them I say What Is Wrong With You. dick van dyke is a hot absent minded inventor who lives in a windmill with his two adorable children, his gorgeous sheepdog, and a grandfather who is categorically useless. it feels like the two films mary poppins (1964) and willy wonka (1971) had a baby and that baby was born on roller skates singing an old broadway showtune. this one has been showing up in some odd places lately—I think you can catch it on Tubi or Hoopla? It's definitely around.
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Jane Powell, Julie Newmar, Howard Keel, Russ Tamblyn)—my problematic fave. everytime i watch this i change my mind whether it's a sexist pile of garbage or a feminist paean, and fellas, today we're on the feminist paean bandwagon!! jane powell's millie is truly the star of the movie, she is the hero she drives the plot the narrative is on her side, and besides all that there are seven very hot men dancing next to her and six beautiful ladies making me bisexual. (on Tubi last I checked.)
The Duke Is Tops (Lena Horne, Laurence Criner)—I get a huge kick out of watching Laurence Criner and Ralph Cooper swindle everybody while also trying to put on a show; there's just something silly and sincere here, plus you get a ~musical extravaganza~ at the end when all is right as rain again. Free on YouTube I think?
"I want to watch something DRAMATIC that may make me FEEL SOMETHING."
Witness for the Prosecution (Marlene Dietrich, Tyrone Power, Elsa Lanchester)—I love a campy twisty turny mystery, don't you? :) I'm not going to talk about this one much because it's better to go in blind, but if you like Agatha Christie stories you'll probably like this.
To Be Or Not To Be (Carole Lombard, Jack Benny)—always relevant, always makes me laugh, also makes me cry. this takes place in poland during wwii so big tw for nazi imagery and mentions. (don't worry. this movie fucking hates nazis.)
Seven Samurai (Toshiro Mifune)—this one is Great Cinema™™™™™™™™™™™ for a goddamned reason
"I want to watch some stuff with the scrungles in it!"
Mr. Washington Goes to Town (Mantan Moreland)—I've been checking out more of Mantan Moreland's stuff because every time I see him in something I think he's delightful, and I really enjoyed this silly-spooky comedy. Does this story have a brain cell? No. Are the special effects and goofy slapstick fun? Yes. This is a fun example of an all-Black cast in a film that was made for Black audiences, and is a striking counterpoint to the stereotypical representation Black actors were given in white-targeted films, showing the enormous amount of talent and artistry the racist studios missed out on by excluding these actors. This is not A Great Film™ but it's still A Fun Time,™ with a goofy Laurel and Hardy type vibe. (It's free on Youtube.)
The Red Shoes (Robert Helpmann, Leonide Massine, Marius Goring)—hey kid, you wanna watch something fucked up? This movie is so fucked up. It's about ballet, it's about art, it's about technicolor, it's about dance and toxic relationships and making theatre and nightmares and ambition and death. A lot of these recs tend on the silly side (because I tend on the silly side) but this one is actually Serious Film and will definitely help you chat up Martin Scorsese should you ever meet him. Big content warning if you can't handle dark themes right now—this movie's pretty dark, not in the gore way but in the Haunting Creepy Image way. (it's also free on Tubi and Kanopy most of the time.)
The Invisible Man (Claude Rains)—my favorite of the vintage horror flicks and a great introduction to Most Dunked On Hot Vintage Man of All Time, Claude Rains. (it helps that you barely ever see him!) Very very silly but the special effects are just plain fun. (I think this is on Internet Archive in full?)
"Can I just get more hot people please?"
Flower Drum Song (James Shigeta, Nancy Kwan, Miyoshi Umeki, Jack Soo)—there are so many unbelievably hot people in this movie which is somehow very good (thanks to its cast) and also incredibly, horrifically bad (thanks to its white team of writers, directors, and producers). on the one hand, it's a mostly Asian cast in a big budget, beautifully designed MGM style musical! there's dream sequences, lots of fun dancing, crooning Rogers & Hammerstein cabaret moments, and just charm galore. it is also freighted with so. many orientalist assumptions and stereotypes, absolutely ridiculous shit that the writers ABSOLUTELY should have known better about in the 60s and nonetheless carried into this. this is a hard one to recommend because I loved this cast, and I loved seeing them in a context beyond the usual stereotypical bit parts so many of them frequently were limited to—yet the movie itself perpetuates so many stereotypes on its own it can be a hard one to watch, and I totally understand if it does not work for most people. tl;dr watch for Shigeta, Kwan, Umeki, and the others, but content warnings galore for one (really bad) case of yellowface casting, orientalist tropes, extremely stereotypical character types, etc. (On Tubi/Kanopy last I checked.)
Charade (Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, James Coburn)—this movie feels like a Hitchcock movie except I had a ton of fun watching it, which I can't always say for a Hitch film. (I told you my taste was bad.) This one is free on YouTube and thank god because Audrey wears a lot of Givenchy, Cary Grant wears spectacles and keeps almost dying, it's very exciting and thrilling and funny and sexy. I don't think there are any content warnings but it's been a minute since I watched it. (I should go watch it right now.)
The Big Sleep (Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall)—they're so hot askjdljhjghladkghjksahkhgslkahgshskjhgsalhgsahgjh. i like this one a lot :)
[this is NOT A FULL LIST of all the hot vintage movies to start with but it might give you some starting places! i banged this out as quick as I could at 2 am, so apologies that it's sloppy and not perfect.]
#recs#asks#coffee night#me 10 seconds after posting: oh fuck wings why didn't i mention wings. oh fuck sherlock jr. ohhh little women. oh CASABLANCA oh NO
