I asked this a little ways back but you must get a lot of questions so if I may ask it again😅..

I would love to make some fanart of Hasa, but I would like to know his favorite brand of Splatoon clothing.

(I know you're super busy with commissions and stuff at the moment so it's totally fine if you don't respond! Your art is so gorgeous I'm not even lying when I say you inspire me! Keep it up💞)

I think I answered this ask already. Again, he doesn’t really go to one brand. He usually assemble clothes that are comfortable to wear.

my tablet is currently halfway across the country for repairs (my brother's the most tech-savvy in my family and asking him to take a look at it was cheaper than taking it to a shop) so i haven't been able to draw lately. i've made a bunch of traditional sketches in the meantime, but none of them are presentable enough to post here, so i decided to take a trip down memory lane and fill out one of foxorian's influence maps!

below the cut are the names of the artists featured here, as well as a little bit of director's commentary on how they've influenced me :]

yugo limbo (website, tumblr, twitter) - some time last year, i realized something profoundly unnerving: i actually... don't like the art in smile for me's original release all that much? that's not to say it's bad, just that there isn't a whole lot about it outside of maybe its architecture that stands out to me. which is REALLY WEIRD, considering i wrote a whole retrospective about how much this game means to me. art-wise, however, it was only after smile for me's release that yugo limbo's art evolved in a way that really resonated with me; i love how textured everything is, i love the way they simplify clothing folds and the way that skin wrinkles around the joints, i love their love for puppets; all of those things ended up worming their way into my art style and tastes one way or another, and i couldn't be happier!! it didn't feel right to leave smile for me out of the equation entirely, though, so i chose a piece that was both related to that game and that i felt reflected a lot of what i love about yugo's more recent art.

echobsilly (twitter, tumblr) - oh god, speaking of yugo limbo - god. i fucking love echo's art so much i have no idea how to even do it justice in writing. like many people i first found him through his smile for me/limbolane fanart and animations - and those are some of his best work, don't get me wrong, but i really wanted to include one of his original designs to make a point that he's just fuckin great at art in general. character design, facial expressions, body language, composition, LIGHTING... he makes it all just. so so so gorgeous. i always liked "painterly" art styles for lack of a better word, but i think his art is what first pushed me to embrace that more in my digital art. i also like how he talks about dr. habit like he's his dead wife. i'm very proud to call him a friend these days :]

japhers (tumblr, twitter, instagram) - i first found japhers' art in high school and he very quickly became a HUUUUUGE influence on my taste in character and costume design. one of the big reasons i never fully bought into the idea that men's fashion is inherently harder to design is bc so much of his art is already dedicated to exploring fashion Without the restrictions of a gender binary in place which is to say that he's really good at drawing buff dudes in frilly outfits. i also think he gave me more confidence to draw more intricate costumes without having to worry about super dainty and clean lineart, bc a lot of his art looks like it's kinda been carved/rendered out of sketches, and it is Gorgeous.

moe suppe (website, tumblr, cohost) - another artist i found in high school, albeit originally from a long-gone instagram account. his art is what kickstarted my desire to have some Roughness in my art, some Texture. it may not have stuck to my lineart, but it Definitely stuck to my rendering. it helped that i was going through a pretty big angel/demon phase at the time, which meant i was pretty immediately drawn in by his delightfully weird worldbuilding. i should probably read fear not now that it's an actual serial...

val wise (website, itch.io, twitter, instagram) - a more recent influence, but a pretty significant one nonetheless. i featured the cover of délicatesse here because it was the first thing from him that i had ever read, but in general his grasp on the human body really blows me away given how deceptively simple his style looks at first glance, especially his faces. the way fat and hair sits on her bodies, and how much it varies from character to character... it's beautiful without being So glamorous that it feels untouchable. his costume design is also great. i recommend his comics for low fantasy/ursula k. le guin fans who are Dying to see more fat characters in leading roles. i also just found out that i am of two hearts is free on itch.io, so i'll be treating myself to that over spring break.

partycoffin (tumblr, twitter) - if you have known me for any amount of time at all then this should not come as a surprise to you. i actually wasn't going to include partycoffin in this map at first, because while welcome home has inspired me in Many creative pursuits, i didn't think visual art was one of them? i definitely picked up some of clown's love for dramatic lighting and thinner lines with just a smidge of well-placed hatching subconsciously, though.

ryoko kui - probably the most recent artist featured here? anyways i have a confession to make: i have yet to read dungeon meshi. i just know that when i saw a post compiling a bunch of ryoko kui's sketches from her daydream hour series, i was so overwhelmed with this feeling of, like… "oh, yeah, these capture almost everything i love about women as flesh and blood people. when i draw women this is the kind of beauty that i want people to see in them." of course, ryoko kui is a great character designer in general, but something about her women specifically really speak to me. the earthier color palettes and rendering also do a lot to endear her art to me.

shuzo oshimi - specifically his art in blood on the tracks. something that really stood out to me in that series was whenever the shadows would get really intense, and you'd get these big blocks of black with just the faintest bit of hatching to soften out some of their edges. it was always very effective in creating this sense of claustrophobia. i really want to keep incorporating that in my more intense pieces!

person918x (tumblr, instagram) - i don't work with 3d art often and i don't see myself doing so any time soon, but the composition of person918x's pieces is something i take a lot of inspiration of. i also love his sequential art, as someone who does a lot of dream journaling it's sick to see the exact Vibe of a dream be put to (digital) canvas. i also firmly believe that he's one of the only people out there who knows what he's doing when it comes to using generative AI in art.

oops i made this list too long so now i have to put the last two artists in a new block.

10. meatgiri (twitter, instagram) - definitely the artist i've known about the longest out of this selection. i think i've been following her since…. oh god. since i was in middle school. way before she was meatgiri, even. i think her influence probably shows up the least in my art, but there are definitely some characteristics that stuck with me for a very long time (the lil block of black accompanied by one or two lines for shading on the neck, the looser lineart making it really easy to incorporate soft curves and sharp edges, the Eyes, etc etc.) i chose this drawing of her oc juniper bc i thought it was both reflective of her current art And a good embodiment of a lot of things i wanted to emulate from her art as a young'un.

11. dragan bibin (website, instagram) - specifically his 'deimos' series. much like with person918x, it's his compositions that really stand out to me the most, and you probably know by now that i'm a sucker for high contrast. i find it interesting though that he uses high contrast to obscure more than he does to highlight... helps a lot with giving the deimos paintings that air of Quiet Unease. another thing i want to incorporate in my horror-adjacent art! manmade environments gone wrong!

ah fuck i mean i’ve got some pretty fun stories. one of the best to tell was when my school underwent a school shooting drill, when i went to school in england. no one knew what the alarm meant because some idiot year11 was seen outside the site with the prop gun from the drama department. i was tryna do my maths club with my friends when our teachers start shoving us into classrooms and barricading the doors with tables and chairs. one of the teachers fully body slammed my friend out of the way.

i had a suspicion about what was going on but it wasn’t confirmed until our maths teacher told us to get away from the windows and that we couldn’t leave yet. eventually we were escorted out and there were special armed police. closest i’ve ever gotten to seeing a gun.

stuff like that never happens in england so it was so dystopian. we never even do gun drills so even the teachers didn’t know what to do. yeah but i think it was worse for the people using the sport facilities as they had to hide in the changing rooms. absolutely wild story, love to tell it over and over. safe to say i never went back to that maths aid.

Ohh the Xfiles fandom is old school. I've watched a couple seasons always meant to get back to it. Are you still active in those fandoms? I was on tumblr as a high schooler primarily for doctor who, harry potter, star trek. That was quite long ago although I still follow doctor who sometimes.

I have a couple friends who are big BTS fans, and I was super into classic rock at the time and they both sent me the Dynamite mv which IS a great way to hook a 70s fan into kpop. Since then I've gotten into a whole bunch of groups: SHINee was probably first. I'm also big into WayV (veryy excited for their new comeback the teasers look gorgeous!) Pentagon, Day6... Do you follow/listen to any other groups?

I can’t believe you saw SuperM in concert!!! that’s amazing. I have been to one kpop concert (BTS) and it was SO much fun. ugh to see Baekhyun live… but yesss you're right he is almost back! (and we're just not gonna talk about kai and sehun enlisting) Do you think Exo is going to have a comeback soon then?? Trying not to get my hopes up too much haha but I think it's what the world needs.

I really liked Grey Suit too! (Morning Star made it surprisingly high in my spotify wrapped, but Hurdle was the favorite for me). I will definitely check out the live session MVs! I love anything that highlights their vocals (and any time they lean into the superpowers).

Favorite Baekhyun songs are probably Amusement Park, Betcha, Privacy, UN Village. My favorite Exo solo album overall is probably Kyungsoo's though.

When I had covid, I luckily never fell ill, but I tested positive and this was pre-vaccine so there was (understandably!) even more precaution. But no symptoms! I just stayed inside and binge watched tv and tried to learn how to play guitar.

Omg, how lucky you are to have seen BTS in concert! Trying to get tickets are always sooooo crazy! A friend of mine tried to get tickets once and couldn’t.

Besides EXO, I really enjoy TVXQ, NCT and all their subunits.

Maybe us fans can manifest a EXO comeback after Baekhyun comes back from his military service. Crossing fingers!

I am so glad you didn’t have bad symptoms of covid. I also loved Kyungsoo’s solo album, but second to Suho (of course, hahaha) I loved Kai’s first solo album. His 2nd solo album was good, but I really enjoy his first one.

It’s hard for me to choose certain albums for a few of my favs so I hope you don’t mind me going off their greatest hits albums. Some of my fav artists and their greatest hits albums are Bruno Mars, Keith Urban, Maroon 5, and for Taylor Swift her two albums: 1989 and Midnights.

I was very involved in the Arrow/Olicity fandom when the show was on air, but not very much these days. As for The X-Files I still love all the fandom creations (gifs, edits and fanart). They will always be my OTP of fandoms.

Were you excited about the Dr Who’s David Tennant surprise return? I think it might have broken tumblr when it happened. Hahaha! I loved him in BroadChurch.

oh no i didn't mean quanxi, i meant that one random purple haired girl who appeared out of nowhere and was the mc's gf for a while i forgot her name. the one who had like bomb abilities or something and who was fighting with her ass exposed. manic pixie dream girl is a common trope in male-targeted media. i really really like the design of the face scar girl from the sequel idk what her deal is but she looks super cool and she seems like the kind of character that inspires good imagery in good artists because i've seen a lot of gorgeous fanart with her but i'm nottttt subjecting myself to that just for her

We’re back to the verse. “Under the surface, I hide my nerves and it worsens, I worry something is gonna hurt us.” That dissonance between what she’s showing and what she’s saying is back. She worries, it worsens, but she’s posing, ready to stop an avalanche. Mirabel is a beat behind, still putting together what Luisa’s telling her even while Luisa’s once again putting her body between Mirabel and danger.

Ok I have to go off about Luisa’s look for a minute because I’ve been watching Encanto daily (sometimes twice a day) in that honeymoon phase of wanting to see every detail and I’m quietly taking notes on her outfit so I can make it for myself and I have a lot to say about it

So it’s clear her whole look is about practicality, right, she’s sweet, she’s femme, but she has a lot of manual labor to do on the daily and her whole self-worth is riding on doing it well. So everything she’s got going on is supporting that goal! 

Her hair: gorgeous, I would pay so much money to see it down, but she can’t afford to have it in her face or in the way. So she’s got it braided on the side, which is pretty and decorative but also a braid can sometimes hold onto your little short tendrils that would pop out of a regular ponytail, and we know she has some little tendrils! 

Also, the bun! It bounces like it’s not super tight, so probably she’s not taking a ton of time in the morning to get it precise--again, it’s a practical choice, she’s working out before the coffee’s even ready. A quick bun is up off her neck, out of her face, nothing dangling that’s gonna get caught on the bottom of a church or whatever. She has a nice thick ribbon for it too, because all that hair is probably pretty heavy.

Honest question. Don't know if this has been asked before, but why do you draw Daroach looking so angry? Like, it's really cool, and I like the way you draw him! I'm just curious since it keeps catching me by surprise.

I can't tell by the wording if you mean times I have drawn him angry or if you mean in general, so I'll answer both. Daroach isn't a super expressive guy, compared to the rest of the cast at least. While his Mass Attack dialogue shows him to have a very flamboyant personality, the way he physically acts is a whole lot more subdued. This might be in part because of limitations that come with the pixel based and light on story SqSq as well as having a very stiff model in KSA, but I do think it's also deliberate as he's the kind of guy that keeps his cool even when in a dangerous situation. That's part of the appeal of a gentleman thief; they are criminals that don't act like your typical thug, but like a charming aristocrat. But that aside, recently I've been trying to push his expressions. I'll try to make him look pissed, but not to the extreme as other characters as he tries to temper himself. Kirby has no reason to not make it clear to someone why he's pissed, whereas Daroach has an act to keep up. If I did actually make any one of my comic ideas you'll never find my SqSq rewrite then I'd a save a real furious Daroach for when shit's really hit the fan, the situation would feel a whole lot more serious when he's dropped the act. It's tempting to just go all out on every expression, but depending on the context a more contained look is the better fit. Maybe that's what you've seen, just me experimenting with a guy looking mad but not to such an extreme so that it's obvious he's mad? If that's not what you meant, well here's option B! Any differences I make when drawing these characters are for one of two reasons: 1.) It's easier to draw, i.e. Sectonia's wings are gorgeous but a bitch to draw so I simplify them. 2.) It's more expressive, i.e. bigger ears on Mags, flow-y hair on Taranza, actual mouth and hands for the Mages, etc. None of these are me "fixing" the characters, I just recognize that these guys were designed with video games in mind and not my silly comic ideas that require more flexible and expressive easy-to-draw characters. With Daroach I found myself struggling to get many expressions with his more rounded eyes, so i went for something more diamond shaped because it's easier to work with. I think this is what you are referring to as angry? It's intentionally sharper on my part I'll give you that.

In terms of official art I think he looks really good in that one KSA piece, I actually reference this more that his other appearances. The eyes kinda looks diamond shaped if you squint.

But the main reason is despite the mountains of Kirby fanart my biggest art inspiration is Megaman and I draw Daroach like I do Zero LOL

Gaga, oooh la la! Yes, you were right. You did have a perfect idea for this category! Fit into the cheesiness of Ruby-Spears with your dialogue on point and the perfect twist to Wily’s plan leading to his downfall. Easily made me laugh the most, as I could hear their voices as I read through this whole thing.

Even though I never had one, I should have realized that was an Atari from the beginning. LOL Clever job with that twist at the end, as well as the cute part between Heat and Fire proving love can find a way without mind-controlling. Very cute comic!

Oh, Neo World Three, always screwing up a plan, and yet it still somehow working out in the end. Although with Charlie not getting hypnotized, will he still fall for Tesla? As always, you are so ambitious with your comics. And this one is such a wild ride. Even with a few heavier battle moments, the puns, the pairings, the frog and prince plot spin all made for really amusing content. Loved a lot of the crazy emotions and faces drawn, between Ninja Froggy Time, Spark Man both feeling it and getting ignored, and so many more. But again, you are being rewarded for something else.

Love is what I feel for this image. Gosh, those eyes just draw me in, with those super-stylized extra long lashes. The flow and movement of the pic from her hair to the dress blowing around in all it’s pieces, to the unique leaning pose. It’s just so different and gorgeous and totally won me over, so thank you!

Pants are optional. Gosh, she’s so cute and so adorable here! Even as simplistic as the background is with her name and the green heart, it just works so well with the colors to tie into her outfit and still make the main art pop out. I love it a ton, thank you!

So much variety! I really do love the final pic the most with the heart hand pose and appreciate the wishes. But there is so much cuteness throughout! Fancast ideas for Jaehaerys and alysanne (in their last decade), Rhaenys, Corlys, Baelon and

Hi there!

Hum... I have a lot of trouble fancasting characters for two main reasons. One, I am an annoying nit-picker who wants the actors to look as close to the characters as possible and goes as far as to be bothered if a character was meant to have green eyes and they have blue eyes instead - looking at you HP - so as you can imagine, it’s a once in a blue moon thing that I think someone is an accurate representation of a character. Then, adding to this, Targaryens are especially hard to cast because they are meant to be otherworldly beautiful and I think no human can match them. Thus, any casting choice will in itself fall short. That being said, some can be closer to what the characters should look like than others. And some can just be a straight up NO! Y’all know who I am talking about no need to spell out the obvious 😌

All of this is why I mostly prefer art and illustrations rather than using real people, and thank the Seven that there are so many super talented artists giving us all reality can't 🥰 I imagine most characters of asoiaf as some artist or another drew them, not as actor X or Y.

But you want some fancasts so let me pull up my sleeves.

I will admit I never considered who could play Jaehaerys or Alysanne, especially  in their older years. This is especially hard for me because I don’t know that many older actors, but I prefer to be a “can” popcorn rather than a “can’t” so I did some research on google to try and answer this one. Hey, it’s not much but still better than saying “No freaking idea”.

Starting with Alysanne, because ladies first, I think Eva Marie Saint could be a good choice, when she was younger and older. Very delicate features. A very royal look to her. And not a very tall woman for what I could gather (1.63 m).

And she aged very well! Can you believe she is currently 97?! WOW! Yes far too old compared to Alysanne but oh well XD they aged faster back in the day I guess 🤷‍♀️ Older actors are hard ok?! Leave me be.

For the Old King: Clint Eastwood, both in his younger and older days. Very handsome man - as any proper Targaryen should be - imposing presence as a king should have. I also think he would be very good at portraying Jaehaerys’s harsher and more unforgiving side very well and at making people not like him at times.

Definitely looks like the Old King on this one. A wise look in my opinion. He’s only missing the braid.

For Rhaenys TQWNW I have thought about before, yes, and I love the choice of Gal Gadot for a young Rhaenys. Has the dark hair of a Baratheon and is tall as well. Not to mention very fine and delicate features as befits any Targaryen. That would be the actor that most resembles how I picture Rhaenys. For an older Rhaenys hum... maybe just age Gal XD

Fierce and stunning like a true Targaryen should be!

For Corlys I would say Gary Oldman and shout out to Longclaw_1_6 over on AO3 who actually suggested him as a fancast and I definitely agree! I can’t even explain why but I get major old scoundrel vibes from him. He also has a very noble look to him idk and at the same time kind of a “nerdy” look that contrasts to how gorgeous Rhaenys would be - I like to think he won her over by his sweet words and seduction skills more than by his looks XD. I think he could make both a good young Corlys - in his younger years - and old Corlys - if only there were time machines that is 😂 Not to mention that Gary is such a GREAT actor!

As for Baelon. Hum... I think Heath Ledger would be the closest to how I picture the Spring Prince. A very handsome, almost beautiful man but masculine at the same time, with a boyish look to him and some curls! My headcanon is that Baelon had curly hair 🤗 Unfortunately the very talented Heath is no longer with us 😔 but a girl can still dream.

I’ve just seen a fanart (which was super gorgeous but) of Azriel and Elain as spies and I had to do a double take because I thought it was Gwyn. As someone who actually likes canon Elain, it makes me so angry when elriel shippers make up this personality for her just so that she can compliment Azriel. Same with Azriel—“he’s gonna step out of the darkness for her.” Girl, that’s not what healthy love looks like! If they have to do a 180 to their personalities to fit each other, maybe they’re not equals at all?

Elain won’t be a warrior or a spy and there’s nothing wrong with that (there are no canon hints about this and Elain despises violence). Not every woman has to kick ass to be a badass. She’s meant to be fierce in her own classy way, much like Lucien. I’m so tired of these people claiming they love Elain but changing her personality every 2 seconds to fit another man’s. Aren’t y’all tired?

If they have to do a 180 to their personalities to fit each other, maybe they’re not equals at all?

For real, neither of them should have to radically change in order to fit into one another's lives.

Literally Elain despises violence, she's had over two years around people who are well trained and she hasn't wanted to, at all, because that's not only not who she is, she actively dislikes physical violence. Elain + daggers = a big nope. She doesn't like them, she doesn't want them, she wants nothing to do with what is central to Azriel's life.

And like you said, that's fine! That's great! That's just who Elain is. Feyre already told us that Elain has her own kind of strength, and it doesn't include being a warrior. Considering how fiercely this fandom tries to protect her "traditional femininity", it's weird how people also want to strip her of it.

would you mind explaining a bit about genishin impact? i'm curious about playing it and i see you post about it a lot! what do you like about it? any tips for new players?

Hi! Okay, so Genshin Impact is half-typical RPG and half-typical gacha game, which means you can play it without ever spending any real money on it, but the temptation is going to be there and that's something you should know going in. But it is possible to play it completely free and have a very rewarding experience, since none of the story is locked behind a paywall. (Just better chances at special characters and weapons.) I like it because I'm a big fan of RPG games, the Final Fantasy and Tales of series are my favorites (well, I've played a handful of Fire Emblem games and one or two Dragon Quest games), I like pretty characters and pretty worlds and running around as a playable character and watching the cut-scenes and gathering up materials to craft my weapons, etc. I like it because it's not super difficult, but it has a huge open world and some inventive combat styles. At it's heart, it's an exploration game, you're meant to go looking into every nook and cranny, while also coming to care about the story as you meet new characters in your journey. And that aspect of world exploration is SO SATISFYING because LOOK AT THIS STUNNING SCENERY:

These are all places you can run around in the game! And some of the character designs are OUT OF THIS WORLD, like Zhongli's character design is absolutely killer:

That's what initially attracted me to the game--I was hearing a lot of people talk about it, I was seeing the occasional gorgeous piece of fanart, and so I got curious enough to go try it out! And it was fun to explore! It's not super hard, unless you want to get really into the technical stuff, otherwise it's meant to be able to be played casually, you can run around as much or as little as you want when you start playing, you can play for an hour a day or even ten minutes or you can settle in for a five hour playing session and still have plenty left to do! It has your basics: You collect characters, you collect weapons, you collet artifacts (accessories), you level up your characters as you move through the world and the plot unfolds. (Which I genuinely like! The game probably isn't even half finished being updated yet, so it's hard to say what the end of the story will be, but I like the whole "gods fighting against gods while walking among the mortals, and the time of the gods may well be coming to an end" story!) Advice I would give to new players: - Understand that you're meant to be switching between the characters you play as, you're not meant to have only one character that you keep out 95% of the time. The game is designed around characters complementing each other, so you will have a main damage dealer that will be on the field most of the time, but you're also meant to be flipping over to reapply your shields or your healing or giving a quick burst of an elemental power before switching back to your main damage dealer. - It took me awhile to realize that Genshin Impact isn't really about, say, facing off against a fire enemy and hitting it with a water attack. Oh, it works more efficiently that way, you'll definitely do a lot of damage, but not all enemies have an elemental weakness that you're meant to exploit. Some do, but most don't, and that means elemental combos are about the specific reactions your characters make. It's about putting (for example) a fire wielder and an electric user on your team, hit the enemy with electricity, then switch to your pyro character and hit them with an elemental attack, and BOOM!, you get way more damage through the status YOU THE PLAYER are applying to them. - Absolutely do not try to level everyone evenly, you cannot do it, there are not enough resources in the game for it to do it comfortably. Your goal is to get a team of four characters (eventually two teams of four, but focus just on your main party) that work well together and focus just on them. - Your main character is actually a very solid unit and worth leveling up, so don't leave them behind when you get shiny new characters! XD - Use up your resin every day, because eventually you're going to burn through everything you get and be time-gated while you wait for it to refill. (Do not use condensed resin or primo gems to refill your resin until you're much later in the game.) Don't worry too much about having to spend resin perfectly, you're going to go through everything you're gathering eventually, just keep half an eye on which weapons you're leveling that will need it, which talent books you need for your mains, etc. There's no rush, you'll get it as you go, and if you're not feeling it a particular day, make some condensed resin (through one of the crafting benches in the cities) and use those the next day instead. (You can only have 5 of them at any given time, so you do still have to keep using them, but they're a nice way to burn off some resin if you don't have time to do anything right at the moment.) - Work on getting your Adventure Rank up to at least 25 or so, a LOT of stuff opens up/becomes available when you get to certain AR ranks, so it's worth pursuing that right away. - Work on getting the nations opened up (through finding the Statues of the Seven), even before the quests take you there, it's worth having those areas open so you have a wider variety of choices for things. (Domains especially!) The more teleportation points and chests you find, the more primogems you

have, which means you can do more wishes/rolling on banners to get new special characters. And, finally, have fun talking about your game experience! Talk about the stuff you're doing early on or ask questions if you don't understand something, go check out some of the incredible fanart in the tags or on Twitter, you'll eventually start getting invested in some of them because the art is just SO AMAZING and the storyline is really cute (and surprisingly funny) and just have fun. It's basically a Triple A RPG that's free because they're getting their money through people spending IRL money for more rolls for characters/weapons and, yeah, it's predatory but it's also doable for free and STUNNINGLY PRETTY.

3. Did someone refer him to you or you found him on your own? A little of both, I guess. @erlkonigstochter watched the first Thor movie before I did and told me it had a quiet overlooked nerd vs. loud popular jock thing going on, so I was kind of predisposed to sympathize with Loki even before I watched it. and then of course I saw it and it turned out Loki was goddamn tragic and also fuck Odin because WHO FUCKING DOES THAT WHEN THEIR KID IS ABOUT TO COMMIT SUICIDE, HOLY SHIT (yeah overidentifying with Loki in multiple ways has always been part of why I love him). I can’t remember if I properly got into the fandom as such until after Avengers, but I definitely didn’t start trying to write my own fic before then, and fandom was very much a feedback loop--gifsets and meta made me notice things I wouldn’t have noticed otherwise (like...I don’t think it even occurred to me that Loki was probably tortured before being sent to Earth until I saw others discussing it and pointing out the onscreen evidence, and then of course it was obvious) and have feelings about those things, and fanart gave me more feelings, and so did fic, which also gave me various ideas. so in the absence of fandom, I think it’s safe to say I still would’ve liked Loki a lot, but it’s hard to say if I would’ve gotten in so deep.

Answered before but answering again because I want to share a few! currently I have 68 songs on my general Loki playlist, which I rarely listen to because I’m a baby and some of them make me too sad. but! I also have a handful near the end that I’ve been meaning to post as a mini-fanmix, because it’s actually not terribly sad and it’s about a very specific topic: post-IW/Endgame Loki recovering in New Asgard because fuck canon actually, and it’s kind of bittersweet because trauma’s a bitch and he’s going to be dealing with all this shit for a long time but also he’s alive to deal with it and so is Thor and they’ll help each other heal because again, and I cannot stress this enough, fuck canon. so far it’s got: “No Monsters,” Roddy Hart & The Lonesome Fire “Tender Offerings,” First Aid Kit “Falling Slowly,” The Swell Season “Saturn,” Sleeping At Last “Never Quite Free,” The Mountain Goats, which really kinda sums up the whole concept and then some combination of “In Harmony,” “In the Silence,” “Going Home,” or the original Icelandic versions of them, all by Ásgeir. these are all extremely gorgeous songs by the way, the whole list, and most of them are even available on Freegal, if your library has that.

oh and the other super-specific mini-mix is about Loki’s time in the Void, and so far the only one on there that’s a sure thing is “Meet Me in the Woods” by Lord Huron (possibly also “The Yawning Grave” by same). other possibilities include “The Colour out of Space” by Matt Pond PA, “The Cold, the Dark & the Silence” by Sea Wolf, “The Void” by Metric, and “Was There Nothing?” (or its Icelandic version) by Ásgeir, but tbh most of those are based on the title more than the lyrics. also it’s sad.

16. How would rate yourself as a Loki fan from 1-10? (1- casual,  10-stan™)  I’m gonna be totally honest here and say that I probably have to admit to 10. I mean--I’ve written a bunch of fic. I’ve made multiple custom figures. I’ve cosplayed five different Loki outfits (all fairly straightforward, but still). and of course, I have an army, which doesn’t even include all the other Loki stuff I have like prints and t-shirts. all of that speaks to a certain level of fanatical dedication, you know?

 Soulmate AU

Setting: School

It is said that the first thing, whatever it may be, said to you by your soulmate, would be imprinted onto your inner forearm like a tattoo. So there may be instances where the first things said might be super vague, something like "hey" or "hi". Then there were also the super-specific ones like "I remember seeing you at the bar last night, you were gorgeous, but I didn't think to say hi- so it's funny how we're meeting here again at a supermarket in the grocery lane." Last but not least, there were ones where it was just plain confusing.

"'Hi, I was wondering what kind of program you used?' I mean, who even asks that the first time they meet?" Ally groans as she stares at her forearm. No matter how much she thought about it, it just seemed impossible. It was always said that your soulmate was who you'd spend the rest of your life with and that you'd be lucky if you ever met your soulmate in your teenage years. Not many meet their soulmate this early on, after all, the world is so big, to make sure the two people meet, would need many variables to align. This made Ally feel slightly better about not meeting her soulmate yet, even though that particular sentence still confused her. It led her to wonder what kind of circumstances she and her soulmate would meet in.

At this time, Donut was also wondering about her soulmate. 'CSP'. That's it. That's all that is written. What baffled her the most, however, wasn't the short 3 lettered word or acronym. It was the fact that she didn't know what CSP meant. It wasn't like she didn't try searching online either, but all she got was "content security policy". Content security policy?? In what world would the first thing your soulmate say to you be content security policy? Did that mean she would have to try and get a job in that? Or maybe she just had to ask her soulmate what the acronym for content security policy was. No, that'd just be plain stupid. Imagine going up to everyone and asking that. Donut laughs a little at the thought, but she can't help but wonder if that's really how she'd find her soulmate?

Thankfully for both, it didn't take long for them to meet. As fandom people, it was only normal to be producing and enjoying fanart and fanfictions. So that's exactly how, and when it happened. It was at lunch, Donut decided to go to the Steven Universe fan club. She always enjoyed walking through the club room looking at the fanart which usually lined the club room walls. As she scanned through them, a certain fanart caught her eye. Intrigued, she had tapped a nearby person to ask them who drew it, and they pointed her to a girl- Ally not far off, sitting at one of the tables scribbling away.

Walking up, Donut decides to start the conversation up different. "Hi, I was wondering what kind of program you used?"

"CSP." Ally answers without looking up. Neither had realized what just happened until a second later Ally looks up almost aggressively. This only confirmed Donut's thoughts as she let out a small gasp.

"You're my soulmate???" Donut asks almost unbelievingly.

"Ok, but why are you taller." Ally seemed conflicted. "No, I mean- un-ask me that- please!"

"WH- I can't just un-ask you something like that!" Donut almost laughs at the absurdity of the request, but also slightly disappointed at her reaction. Did that mean Ally wasn't her soulmate? Or maybe they weren't meant to be soulmates? It is often said that one would feel a spark when they met their soulmate, but none of what was supposed to happen was happening.

"Oh, right, sorry, that was rude." Ally apologizes almost embarrassed but seemingly deflated.

"Oh pfft, don't sweat it, it's good! You see, so many people can ask you the same thing- so it probably isn't even me, I mean there are so many people on earth- y'know?? I'm sure you'll find the right soulmate." Donut says starting to ramble in an attempt to cheer Ally up. "Plus, we can just be soul mates with a space in between. Yes. We will be great friends or mates in this case!"

And that's what they did. They became soul mates. Kind of like when one would say 'Oh, this is my girl friend, with a space in between the girl, and the friend.' They would talk for hours on end about their ocs, and that's when Donut realized something was wrong. Something very wrong indeed, she may or may not be catching some unwanted feelings for her soul mate. Which was wrong. So what does a normal person do when they figure out something is wrong? They deny it.

"Yeah, then there's that boundary between acquaintances and friends." Ally says thoughtfully. The two were currently sitting at lunch talking about different types of relationships.

"I have like- friendship tiers I list everyone in. As you said, there are acquaintances, then there are friends. For me, there are three levels of friends: 'just met', close friends, and best friends. Then there is the slightly different topic of girlfriends. For instance, Theo would be a close friend." Donut starts to list off a few more examples as Ally listens, "And you- y'know you're like a super great friend, but I wouldn't date you. I mean, it's not like we're actually soulmates." She adds shrugging a little.

"Yep." Ally nods and that was the conversation; their attention brought back to fangirling over their ocs. If Donut could give herself a rating on how she did, she'd say she did pretty good, except she didn't.

A few months pass and Donut realizes her feelings were back, or more accurately, never left. So she decided, if Ally was interested in someone already, she'd just be a good friend and her ultimate wingman, but if Ally wasn't, she'd ask her out or something. Or not, since she's an awkward gay.

"So do you have a crush on anyone right now-" Donut had started the conversation, she'd ask every now and then just out of curiosity, except this time, she was going to make a decision afterwards.

"Huh, I mean everyone has one right, so I guess." The two were sitting at lunch again, just talking and enjoying each other's company.

Donut took a bite of her sandwich before looking back at Ally, "Oh?? So you do have one?" Now she was curious about who caught her soul mate's eye. "Who is it?" She asked almost a little too curious.

Ally didn't think much of it, however, and just shook her head. "I'm not telling you."

"Whaaaat- why not??" Donut whines. She really wanted to know now, who the mysterious person was.

"Why do you want to know so badly??" Ally crosses her arms almost defensive, but more flustered.

"Because I'm curious!" Donut exclaims. "I mean, you'd be the same if I said 'Hey Ally, I have a crush too.'" Lunch was almost over by this time, but hopefully, she could figure out who it was before then. Maybe a little push would help.

"You do? Who is it?" It was Ally's turn to be curious. "Y'know you should totally just ask them out, if it were me, I'd just ask my crush out."

"Yeah right." Donut snorts. "Like YOU would actually go up to your crush and just ask them out. That's not something the Ally I know would do." Donut teases Ally nudging her playfully.

"Shut up!" Ally clicks her tongue. "You are underestimating this gay. I would definitely ask them out. Anyways, what's your crush like huh? Since it doesn't seem like you'd be telling me the name."

"You're right I won't," Donut says with a smug look. "And I ain't telling you none of that." She was wrong. They spent the rest of the lunchtime talking about what their crushes were like. Right before the bell rings, Donut decides to go for it. "Wait-"

"Yeah?" Ally asks turning around, she was getting ready to go to class, but she decided that could wait. "What is it?"

"Good- luck in class!" Donut says after hesitating. She was going to ask Ally out, but on second thought, she could wait until later, or just not do so at all. She's pretty good at procrastinating anyways.

"Really now, I saw you hesitate." Ally crosses her arms in front of her chest. School can wait, whatever Donut was going to say had to be way more interesting than spending an entire hour in class listening to the teacher drone on about a random subject.

"IT'S NOTHING OK, GO TO CLASS." Donut was extremely flustered by now, she didn't think Ally would think too much of it, and now it seemed like she would have to tell her what she was going to say. Ally laughs a little and that makes Donut blush even more. "D-don't laugh!"

"Well it's funny watching you struggle for words, it doesn't happen a lot." Ally snickers some more. "So what's up my soul mate?" She had an idea what this was about, but she didn't want to ruin the fun.

"You're enjoying this aren't you- Oh my god. YOU'RE SO MEAN. I'M REALLY STRUGGLING HERE. Alright. I'll tell you, but if you laugh I'm leaving." Donut grumbles as Ally nods and laughs again. "Well uh, I think you're really cute- and like full homo-"

"There you go. Congrats." Ally giggled. "But really, I wasn't expecting this."

"What do you mean?"

"Remember when we had that conversation?"

"Which conversation- we've had many." Donut frowns trying to remember what Ally could be talking about.

"You said and I quote, 'You're like a super great friend, but I wouldn't date.'"

"That was-" Donut stammers completely forgetting they had that conversation, she then lets out an audible groan attempting to cover her face. "And like-"

"Yes?"

"Do you wanna like- go out with me?"

"I don't know hmmm-" Ally pretends to think about it. "What should I do..."

"C'MON ALLY. It's a yes or no question- the ones you're good at?" She then repeats in a slightly mocking but joking tone. "'Hey Ally, cats or dogs?' 'Yes'"

"Wooooow, don't make fun of me." Ally shakes her head in mock disappointment. "So rude. And I can't believe you don't want to be soul mates with a space anymore, I'm hurt."

Donut rolls her eyes a smile tugging at her lips. "So...?"

"Well- I have to go to class right now, so I'll let you know after school ok?? I'll definitely think hard on it." Ally winks as she turns to head to her class. Donut nods and gathers her stuff as well, there wasn't much time left to get to class before she was considered tardy. But that was hardly her concern at the moment. This whole thing had gone way better than Donut thought, and she was glad that Ally didn't flat out reject her which would've been quite devastating. On second thought, she also couldn't help but think maybe they really were soulmates.

I think its kind of strange that we automatically associate Arya with disliking gowns and short hair. Like i get why we do it, but when you look at the books it doesnt make a lot of sense.  Now i am not knocking anyone’s fanart or fanfiction here. That would be a bit much and this fandom gets such amazing fanart/fanfiction ! What i am talking about is how the fandom as a whole deals with feminity and what is feminine and what is not and how we deal with that.

 For the dresses, she doesnt complain about gown until she is on the run. The first time she complains about wearing one is at the brothel. In fact when she goes to her chambers before fleeing the Red Keep she takes some of her gowns with her and she doesnt need to. From all we know she does not intend to sell them. 

“Arya knelt in the dirt among the scattered clothes. She'd been lying on top of Needle, or else it would have been gone too; it was worth more than all the rest together. Since then Arya had taken to walking around with her cloak draped over her right arm, to conceal the blade at her hip.” - Arya V, AGoT

Arya intends to sell the bracelet, but doesn’t say anything about selling the gowns. Except for when she is on the run Arya does not complain about wearing gowns. Presumably Cat wears a dress or a tunic and skirt and i’m pretty sure that Mercy and the Ugly Little Girl wear something similar. She doesn’t complain about it. She never asks why she cant wear something else. She never argues about it. She just wears them without comment. She wore a shift dress in Harrenhal too and didn’t complain and being made to wear one except for the fact that it was scratchy. Arya doesn’t seem to have that big of a problem with dressed and gowns, except for when she is on the run or she considers them too frilly. 

As for her hair. Arya’s short hair is not a choice (silly as it is i always find myself grabbing for my own when i read about Yoren’s haircut). Before everything goes to heck its clear she doesnt really care about it, which is typical of a nine-year old and older. She does not take care with her hair like Sansa does, but we never hear her complaining about long hair. Even when she is on the run, she does not complain about her hair growing out. 

Arya clearly does not care about her hair and that is fair. The thing is i am against the assumption that because she may not really care about something she is completely against it or dislikes it. I think part of the problem is that hair is just another thing to check off in people’s list of how to compartmentalize. She is a tomboy, so she has to hates dresses and has short hair. Got it. 

The odd thing is, we see a lot of depictions of Dany with this long flowing hair and her hair is gorgeous. In the books, though, she hair is short. Considering it was burnt off in AGoT and its about two years after in ADwD, there is no way for her to have flowing locks unless Targ genes are like super generous. 

Hair in the ASoIaF verse definitely has meaning, but i dont think it has much to do with femininity vs masculinity. For Arya, Dany, and Sansa hair changes meant going on a new path. Hair in this case is less about the personality of the character and more about the symbolic act of cutting hair. Dany and Arya did not choose to have short hair, just like they did not choose to go on these new paths. 

I dont know really know how to wrap this up...so i guess what im saying here is im here for more representation of a long-haired Arya and a short-hair Dany.

CATEGORY 2 (Humor):  I Feel All Mushy Und Tingly Inside

For the humor category, our participants were to draw something in which a character had created some sort of mind-controlling device or concept to make other characters fall in love in a humorous way.

Gaga, oooh la la! Yes, you were right. You did have a perfect idea for this category! Fit into the cheesiness of Ruby-Spears with your dialogue on point and the perfect twist to Wily’s plan leading to his downfall. Easily made me laugh the most, as I could hear their voices as I read through this whole thing.

Even though I never had one, I should have realized that was an Atari from the beginning. LOL Clever job with that twist at the end, as well as the cute part between Heat and Fire proving love can find a way without mind-controlling. Very cute comic!

Oh, Neo World Three, always screwing up a plan, and yet it still somehow working out in the end. Although with Charlie not getting hypnotized, will he still fall for Tesla? So cool and suave Blues is. You can’t control his love, but he can now control yours! I think Kalinka wins either way, even if poor Over-1 feels like it might have not gone to plan.

As always, you are so ambitious with your comics. And this one is such a wild ride. Even with a few heavier battle moments, the puns, the pairings, the frog and prince plot spin all made for really amusing content. Loved a lot of the crazy emotions and faces drawn, between Ninja Froggy Time, Spark Man both feeling it and getting ignored, and so many more. But again, you are being rewarded for something else.

For the wildcard category, all anyone had to do was draw me something Valentine-y featuring my favorite Megaman lady, Hoshikawa Akane. This act of mine hasn’t changed since Star Force came out, and yet you still all put up with me?! Well, now deal with me gushing over these pics, in a category just meant to tempt me.

Love is what I feel for this image. Gosh, those eyes just draw me in, with those super-stylized extra long lashes. The flow and movement of the pic from her hair to the dress blowing around in all it’s pieces, to the unique leaning pose. It’s just so different and gorgeous and totally won me over, so thank you!

Only you would both call me out as a simp and craft a piece around SIMPsons references, knowing how much I would enjoy it. I appreciate the volume and range of Akane’s in varying styles to tide me over. Super cute, super deformed, super hot and super humorous. Throwing in old pics you have drawn for the Kattelox gallery was perfect, and I don’t deserve you humoring me as often as you have over the years. Thank you!

Pants are optional. Gosh, she’s so cute and so adorable here! Even as simplistic as the background is with her name and the green heart, it just works so well with the colors to tie into her outfit and still make the main art pop out. I love it a ton, thank you!

So much variety! I really do love the final pic the most with the heart hand pose and appreciate the wishes. But there is so much cuteness throughout! From the young lovebirds, which hardly anyone draws them from that concept art style, to hitting the major holiday costumes which tie into other contests/events I’ve held or helped out with over the years. The page of chibis is just super adorbs. Thank you for drawing so much of her, I love ‘em all!
