Floods are so normalised where I live. My mum will come in from work and say "town centre's flooded" and my only response is "what, again?"
In year six we were told that floods count as a natural disaster and we were just like... "But it floods all the time" and our poor teacher had to break it to us that technically, it counts.
#Took a photo of a local river which was so flooded that six fields around it were so full of water#That you couldn't actually tell where the river ended and the what-had-been-fields began#Sent it to my family like “derwent's burst its banks again”#I mean there were flood defences and we were STILL driving through like three inches deep water#You know you get a flood alert and you're just like “eh I'm sure it's fine”#There's pubs in the local city that are so used to floods that they just put crates on the floor for people to walk on and carry on as usua#There's a caravan in a field near us that's on 3 metre high fucking stilts simply so that it doesn't get flooded because it's that fucking#I mean I know this might not be that unusual but genuinely#Nobody in yorkshire gives a fuck about flooding#yorkshire#uk#flooding#It's fucking raining again#Bet it's gonna flood#Don't worry all the shops in town have sandbags stored behind the till#I mean seriously is this normal or are we just overly casual about this#The floods here are often quite mild#Granted#But they're often quite serious#Idk
