It's fairly simple. You are a utilitarian, right? So you can understand killing yourself if continuing to live would have massively negative expected utility. Like if you're going to be tortured and shit.

Imagine that your conception of morality is in duty and loyalty, and (perhaps more importantly) your conception of self-interest is in self-perfection. In your view, what is good for you selfishly is precisely that your ideal self be realized in the world; what is bad for you selfishly is that your actual self fail to accord with your ideal self.

Imagine you have lost an important battle. Imagine you have disgraced your name and your lord. What are you to do now? Certainly your ideal self would not lose a battle. Going forward, your ideal self would not have lost a battle. Your ideal self would not have been the cause of your lord losing the war. You can never wipe away that stain. So long as you exist, you are lesser, there is a permanent barrier between you and the Good, between you and a life worth living, between your actual reality and being who you set out to be. You will never be who you set out to be, not even close, after a failure of this magnitude. You have lost your opportunity to be a man worth being.

But, perhaps you can die a man worth dying. What is the ultimate act, the ultimate display of commitment to duty? "If I can't do my duty, if I can't be a man worth being, then I would rather be no man at all". You can cease to exist, free yourself from living the pointless and dead-end life that would necessarily follow, and in the same moment reassert your absolute commitment to your duty, your lord, and your ideal self. Only an act so dramatic and a sacrifice so great as death can demonstrate now, in this time of all times, that you care more about these things than you care about comfort or safety or life itself. And such a man is clearly a loyal man, clearly a duty-doing man; such a man is responding to these impossible circumstance in the only way your ideal self truly could.
