Pirate GFs!
(I’m learning how to pose in Final Fantasy XIV! My lighting leaves something to be desired but I’m happy with how this turned out overall)

I’m very much the second. Chapter 31 of The Tomb of Time was meant to be a pivotal action setpiece but that got delayed a chapter because I decided to add 6K extra words of Max having an Episode 5 style nightmare sequence. Sometimes the simple ideas grow like weeds.
ao3 writers are either *90% of works are short oneshots* or *physically incapable of writing a oneshot, everything must be expanded upon*

The Tomb of Time, being a crossover between three very tonally different series, is probably the most self indulgent thing I’ve ever wrote. Stat wise, it’s doing quite poorly compared to my more focused fics. I’m sure I have more than a few subscribers who question why I waste time working on it when Canaan Valley has much better metrics. I’m sure many see it as a disappointing follow up to The Words I Cannot Speak.
I still write it anyway, because it’s so fucking FUN. Mashing my favorite blorbos together in one of my favorite settings, weaving in connections with the themes of the original canons, making OCs and lore for them— Yeah it’s not the path to becoming a Big Name Fan but who gives a shit when it sparks such JOY. I’m having the time of my goddamn life and I think it really shows in the writing sometimes.
And hey, I’ve picked up a few lovely nerds who are into it too! Make something with passion, however self indulgent it is, and someone else will appreciate it. Just a matter of being patient enough to find them.
Self care is writing fan fiction that you are the sole target audience for.

I firmly believe you can’t do a faithful adaptation of The Locked Tomb. Like how would you even adapt Harrow the Ninth. The narration/POV fuckery is integral.
That said, I’d love to see an animated spin-off written specifically for that medium.
I firmly believe that some stories can never be translated into a different medium and that's okay
