The Wayhaven Chronicles - Update 10/Nov/2023

Super busy week this week! We have a very strict schedule to ensure this Christmas story is released on time, so it’s full steam ahead :D

We decided to do this game on the Ren’py engine, which obviously is quite the switch. It will still be text-based, but we can add a bit more pizzazz to it with some fun Christmas designs, GUI, as well as add in some music!

Obviously, this does present the problem of not being able to transfer in saves from Choicescript, but as this is a stand-alone story not affected by main game events, so that’s not a worry.

But I do want it to be super quick and easy to make your MC in this game seeing as you can’t just transfer them in—definitely not have to go through dozens of screens to do that! So I’ve managed to come up with a way to make it that you can pick your stats on one screen—simple and quick!

Nai has been designing the GUI aspects, and they look SO merry and amazing! You might have seen the work-in-progress stat screen I was just talking about this week that she posted.

It’s been quite the experience re-learning how to code GUI again, as it’s been quite some time that I’ve worked on Ren’py, and it’s been updated quite a bit since then :D But it’s coming together really nicely, so very pleased with that and the feel it’s giving to the game!

Something else I forgot would need to be thought of is fonts. So we’ve been trying to figure out the best font to make it unique, Christmassy, but very readable.

We’re also starting to think about how to look for some testers for releasing it on Mac computers. I’ve never had issue with releasing visual novels on Mac in the past as Ren’py games seem pretty stable on those, but we want to be super sure of it before being able to say yay or nay! :D

And then of course there was writing and coding the actual game itself, hehe! I’m having to be more strict with myself on too many dialogue choice sets seeing as it’s supposed to be a lighter game…but you guys know what I’m like by now, lol! Still want it to feel like a Wayhaven game and just as immersive 😁.

so it’s almost been a year since i properly ( there's no way to properly do it but you understand . . ) started self-shipping , i think ? and it's ( in all honesty ? ) helped me through much of the year i started this blog back in march i believe , but i consider our anniversary to be in may ( i thought it was august but a very silly girlie got dates mixed up with lore if you could believe ehe ; ) which . . is five months off but it still feels pretty close ! he’s become such an intrinsic and important part of my life now that it feels as if it’s always been this way i guess . i’ve said it before but his character is just so kind and gentle and caring but also he’s reminded be how lovely it is to actually romanticise life a little bit and how good it feels to embrace your passion/s i um . . i love him very much ? 🩵🥺

he’s such a genuine source of comfort and so very dear to my heart , and I truly think he’s going to be my love favourite forever and i can't wait to do more ship stuff in the coming year hehe ! i’ve been with this series for sixteen years now . because i'm old . ( /j ) it was such a huge staple of my childhood and maybe i’ll talk about it someday - i'd like to ! - because many of my dearest memories are centred around this franchise. perhaps this blog was always inevitable in that way , i like to joke about self shipping with him is like a long term membership bonus . . but either way , in a sense i feel so lucky i get to express my love for it in this way if that makes sense ?

marianne ( having been made this year ) is also important to me in a way that’s . . come to surprise me , honestly ? i haven’t had an ‘ oc ‘ in a very long while so perhaps i just forgot about how emotionally attached you can really become . it’s probably also no shock that despite being a self insert, she’s very personal to me . . as someone that admittedly struggles with quite a bit of negative self talk, being able to say i like these parts of myself that i implement into her character has been quite healing for me as well ! and being able to rediscover my love for collecting flowers and coffee was also something really fun to do ! to the person that designed her ( you know who you are hehe ) I’m so incredibly grateful you bought her to life. It truly does mean sm . . as well as to everyone that's drawn her of course hehe , im always so giddy to see my little beloveds drawn so prettyful !

im queer and suffering. i just barely held myself off from flirting with lace because im saving myself for neve okay but then bellara upgraded from "cool and cute" to "yeah i need to romance her" and then i recruited lucanis. need i even say more. hes the kind of Complicated i always go nuts for. i think i can restrain myself with him though because it would be fun to romance him with a mage perhaps. another time. its fine. i can do this. morrigan is heading deeper into true MILF territory and i'm here for it. she looks really good. it feels like she's growing well into herself in general, and mellowing out. (possibly she was already like this in dai but i never saw because i was only ever able to play the default world state where she didnt have kieran. speaking of which, i really thought id have to pick more choices at the beginning. does davg morrigan have kieran? did she take the well of sorrows? my lavellan took it but that wasnt something i could input so!! im curious if thatll come up). i loved the comment she made about pissing solas off with trying to explain elven history to him hehe

so i DID expect lace to get magic but i did NOT expect it to happen in such a spectacular valta-esque fashion, damn. that was a "holy shiiittt" moment for me. varrics cryptic statement about it being bad is concerning but im gonna keep living in blissful ignorance right now and enjoy how excited lace is to feel connected and explore her new abilities

before that bit, there was that super sweet moment between rook, lace, and neve that really stood out to me ;w; i chose the dialogue option "we shouldnt be at each others throats" which lead to lace reassuring neve she wasn't blaming her for how things happened, and neve responded with pointing out lace shouldnt be blaming herself either, then i picked "we have to support each other" which was so lovely.... what a heartfelt conversation, a feel-good moment that bolsters the team dynamic. i looove it. i'll always take more companion/companion connection like that <3

i feel like i'm slower to pick up new game mechanics than i used to be as i get older because i'm definitely still getting used to both the combat and all the gear and such, but i think i like how it's set up in this game. i haven't levelled up a merchant yet but the whole reputation thing is neat and adds more weight to a trading system that is often forgettable / not really integrated into the story in most games. working towards upgrading both the shops and the items is interesting. it also takes the stress of inv management off my shoulders lol amazing, getting to loot without the hassle of sorting through it all and constantly running out of space? im here for it

then i headed off to antiva and took a screenshot of every cat i saw and/or pet. it's cool to learn more about the crows. naturally, i was excited to be in a city again and it did not disappoint. theyre sooo well crafted, absolutely beautiful and designed to make them feel genuinely alive.

the prison was also gorgeous. the environments in this game kick ass. ive stopped so many times just to take in the view. stunning. that giant skeleton on the sea floor caught my eye too.

the fact that "oof" is a dialogue option is SO FUNNY....

the scene of bellara trying to fix the archive spirit crystal and reading her packing note is what sealed the deal for me. i picked the purple option after watching her hit the thing in frustration, the "can i try too?" one and it was so cute. failed to resist flirting and that was also cute af

that said, im already thinking about bellara/merrill bc how can i not... idk if merrill will come up later in some other fashion so this might not make sense, but i can imagine merrill relating to the veil jumpers and being in contact, able to help them with artifacts. if bellara knows about merrill and what she accomplished before the breach and magic getting wonky, she probably looks up to her a bit. and i think bellara would remind merrill of herself as she was before everything terrible happened for her 😭it would be nice for her to have someone who can both meet her on the same level re: technical/magical knowledge and in such a chipper, enthusiastic way

i think i'm still gonna romance neve though, i just feel like she and my current rook Work. i loved the detail that they never met before despite both being associated with the shadow dragons and neve saying because she's more of an informant, rook mightve acted on her info before. i also chose her to help me during solas' ritual so she got hurt, which added more emotional connection ;w;

Eilwyn: You might have me confused with Calypso... It's inconvenient to have another Milotic in town because everyone thinks I'm her and vice versa. You can tell us apart because she has really long head fins and I'm prettier.

// ... but fun fact, eilwyn is my other wondermail recruit! dielle being the first one. for a while I waffled on having them in the comic- having a team of 5 already felt like a lot to juggle in terms of their personal relationships to one another, and adding another character kinda late into the game felt like it wouldn't have worked out. but I still really liked milotic and wanted one to appear. so in chapter 4, I decided to put a milotic in the beginning to act as a sort of placeholder- basically buy myself some more time to decide if I wanted to include the milotic character, and then if they did show up, I could point at chapter 4's intro and be like "look!! they were foreshadowed :)"

the thing is I thought for sure I was gonna use the goldeen hybrid design later attributed to "calypso" here- I like goldeen a lot and the general frilly goldfish look, and was pretty happy with the demo sketches I made for her.

but then actually drawing her, even for the 2 or 3 panels she showed up in, was a bit of a pain... I don't know what it was about her, maybe trying to make her eyebrow antennas go over her head fins consistently, or maybe the head fins were just too long for me to manage in a consistent way? either way, it was enough that I decided it was a sign to not have the milotic character. and then months later i remembered that I love finneon/lumineon a lot and could make a milotic with those features, and eilwyn was born!

I drew this and I was like "ok actually i DO want a milotic character after all", and I spent a lot of time figuring out a way to incorporate eilwyn into the narrative! and now they're here and I love them :) so I guess calypso here in a way is a proto-eilwyn. I don't blame folks for getting confused since milotic is such a standout design for a pokemon and I otherwise try to avoid having dupe species for NPCs with speaking roles, so instead I think it's fun to lean into it hehe

Do HB and YJ end up together (romantically) in canon, or are the shippy drawings of them just for fun? 2. If they end up together, was HB's hypnosis involved in attaining YJ? 3. What kind of business does Honey Badger run? (The more in-depth you get here the happier I'll be). 4. What is Yellow Jacket's day job? Is he good at time management like Clark Kent, or always having trouble with being late to or skipping out on things like Peter Parker? 5. Do you have any posts dedicated to worldbuilding? Do you have any posts where you summarize all of your main characters and their personalities, like as a rough guide I could read? I tried going through the tag but I wasn't seeing anything. 6. Not a question, but I love love love that HB has hypnosis as a power, it's such a fun power both visually and storytelling-wise.

AHHHHH THIS ASK IS EVERYTHING I'VE EVER NEEDED... first of all, thank you sm for the interest in my ocs! ;V; lovely people like you are the reason i love sharing them <3 WITH THAT BEING SAID, here's some oc info! >:]

1: mostly for fun! although i enjoy playing with the idea, i'm not entirely committed to them ending up together canonically. reason being is that the plot i've developed isn't as fleshed out as i'd like it to be in order to handle that seriously. however, what i can state canonically is that the relationship is non-threatening to YJ. this intrigues HB, and sometimes frustrates him; not being taken seriously and all. it's just in YJ's nature to be a little cocky bastard LOL, he loves getting the best out of HB! that isn't to say HB isn't formidable and dangerous but... well, he let's the superhero get away with a little too much sometimes. sigh <3 but this is canon. it needs to be.

2: although my first response was a shy maybe, in those situations, the commitment wouldn't stem from HB hypnotizing YJ for that gain... canonically, he only uses it to interrogate and intimidate YJ. everything else is for fun :]c hehe. honestly, it'd be YJ making the first move, if i had to say U//v//U

3: HB is a CEO of a prominent robotics company in the setting! i recently thought to myself as him using this company as more of a disguise for deeper and darker works going on behind the scenes. perhaps a portion of the company's products is used to assist superheroes' abilities, which are prominent in this setting. but in turn, this gives him the ability to lock them all down with a push of a button. very fun to think of..... even if it's giving incredibles 2 plot LOL.

4: (spins around in my chair) YJ works for HB's company - DUN DUN DUNNN!!! but he doesn't know it. personally? can't blame him, i don't know what the CEO of the job i work for looks like, nor do i care. YJ truly lives up his name, he's a real worker bee! (worker wasp?) he manages his time exceptionally well, just tends to show up late. he is usually sleep deprived in the day, but hyper at night.

5: at this time, the only resources i have is going to be their individual toyhouse pages (chaotic i know). as for the world itself, it's set in 1970s las vegas. the 1970s aspect is mingled with modern amenities, like a cassette futurism type alternate universe. but i hope to straighten things out soon and perhaps build up a google doc or something to show you guys! <3 YJ's page - HB's page / they also have playlists if you're interested! Dearest Diary,

Today was a little hectic.

The plan for today was to cuddle up with Cole and be little snuggle bunnies. I was very tired and in a lot of pain this morning, and I was excited to have a lazy day with my love.

Then… I get a late notice message from my manager (I love them so much aaaah!)

Turns out there is a photo shoot I could fill in and model for tonight, and I was asked if I could come drop in and do it!

That…... Made me a little flustered! I greatly struggle with change, and was slightly perturbed by my sudden change of direction of the day.

I came to the shoot, unprepared and uninformed, and was MORTIFIED. everyone else came dressed as they should be, while I assumed they would be styling done on set. I looked so different from everyone else. (My greatest fear)

But in counseling, I have worked on not telling myself mean stories about myself. My knee-jerk reaction was to spiral, repeating phrases to myself about having everyone will make fun of me, no one likes me, that I am ugly, and not meant to be doing this. It took hours for me to shut it out.

I met some really nice people, and turns out they all thought I was lovely! I was so relieved to be treated with kindness. I see myself in such a negative light, that I don't understand how anyone could show kindness to such a worthless thing like me. It was the kind girls that I met there that helped me snap out of my funk! They said such kind things to me!

The photo shoot was for this really cool new fashion line! I was wearing all these cool prototypes, and will be attending a huge launch party when the line debuts in January! I got a long, super well with the nice guy who designed all the clothes!

I may be collabing with him and starting my own fashion line.....? Stay tuned!

Cole was so kind to accompany me the whole time. He is the best thing that has ever happened to me.

oh, my living situation is unchanged, my small childhood bedroom where the only place i can sit is my bed, which isn't bad but also it makes me love interior design, specifically colours and furniture, like desks, which there is a lack of in my little room. living situation will be unchanged for at least 2023, and even if i could get out, i don't know where i'd go, so i feel a bit hopeless since i don't have a big picture for my life, i just have a little picture with small stepping stone milestones, but the picture is slowly getting coloured in... oh can we add in how my only friend in this town moved away? yeah, i'm stuck for at least 2023, and with the way my mental health is going (badly) i might not get far in general i'm afraid.

anyway, you asked fun questions, and i gotta say, i love colourful food, so i'd be doomed if i had to have e.g. only red foods (sounds like a lot of tomatoes) and it reminded me of how many foods are beige or red, or green or brown.. or just burn everything to a brown or charcoal but i'd need a sauce to go with since it would be dry as heck ahh...

horror movies? i can see myself either getting the hell out of there quickly, or just dying very easily from something unrelated (knowing my anxiety, my heartrate and blood pressure would probably kill me first) but i think i'd just die easily, there is no final enby here sksks.

a completely useless superpower? all i can think of is how Pietro died in Age of Ultron... fast but not fast enough and no super healing:/ he deserved better...

how do u manage to balance studies and read tons of books and short fiction w/o getting sucked to the time-suck of social media!! re: tumblr?? 😭😭😭 it’s may and i havent read a SINGLE book :(

short answer is that i really don’t read a ton whatever you may perceive 😭 however what has helped me read a little more than nothing at all is probably the following !

1) social media is designed to be so accessible and easy to mindlessly scroll - you’re not weak for falling into it but you can put things in place to make it more difficult and reading the more appealing and natural choice!

you can use tumblr to your advantage if you struggle to stay off it which i do also! seeing as i am chronically online, i have links saved in my drafts and also on my notion app which i use for studying so it’s always there! so i don’t set myself strict times to read short fiction, it’s more a ‘ok i am bored i want to scroll tumblr, wait lemme go to my drafts first and now i am scrolling through a story… and this is called reading..’ though technically i am still in the app…

other options u could consider if you do want to stay off the app more: block it/time limit of say 5-10 mins at a time/per day! check your average screen time for tumblr and set aside that time to read instead! keep a short story link open, take a light book with you when you’re out and about, put a book physically on top of your phone, use your phone as a bookmark so you HAVE to open the book to use it etc . trick yourself essentially

2) on the topic of books and studying, i personally have realised that i just don’t have the energy during term time to keep up an ongoing book - my current read i have read 1/3 of since um? january? it’s.. slow. but that’s ok! reading doesn’t have to be about speed :-) also 1-2 excellent books that you really enjoyed is better than a heap of mediocre drivel for the sake of reading so no need to compare yourself to what you THINK you should be reading (or to me or anyone else!)

so i tend to read mostly in the holidays now and during term time, short stories are my beloved for my attention span/time! mentally the idea of reading a short story is more manageable than reading a chapter or what not for 20 mins and also i can drop it if it’s not interesting so much quicker :-) obvi might not be the case for you but more generally would recommend easing back into reading with some shorter works or old favourites if you find the idea of a novel more daunting compared to just opening tumblr and scrolling! or start books when you have more free time e.g. holidays (all the books (4) i have read this year have been during a break!)

3) bit of a sidenote but i do find that posting and reblogging about books and short fiction and following people that do associates tumblr with reading for me! this helps with point 1 but also generally turns tumblr from a time suck into a more beneficial place (a good time suck?) - short story recs from bloggers are unerringly so good and a lot of books i like i first heard about on tumblr also! might be something to consider :-)

A smile plastered on my face, I'm so happy for them! My attention was stolen when Venti decides to say his idle line "Come on Traveler, let's go! The world is full of lost ballads just waiting to be rediscovered." I put my phone down then grab my controller again "Ok ok, I will pay attention to you now" I chuckled humorously "Good! Just don't make me murder your friends."

The moment he said that line, my thumb suddenly stopped pushing the joystick, did he just..... did I just heard that right? Murder... your friends? What does he mean by that? Someone never mentioned this voiceline of his, I should check the character icon. I clicked on the character icon then proceed to his voicelines, I checked every details but I can't seem to find it, maybe it's a bug? The fact that I was talking to my friends.... maybe Mihoyo intended it?

I shrugged my shoulders then continue to the domain to farm for talent materials. After countless of grinding, I started to have fun with his wind current while harassing random hilichurls for fun, I made him sat at the Barbatos statue "You finally came home..." I smiled as I touch the screen, Venti looked at the camera then smiled "That's so cute! He smiles when he looks at at camera!" I awed, I continue to fawn over him.

I hurriedly grab my controller then check my characters, all of them were Venti! I can't find a single character other than him! What's going on!? I check my weapons but they are okay, I checked my profile and nothing changed but my icon was set to Venti, i checked my primogems and fate but nothing changed, in fear of getting hacked, I contacted Mihoyo for customer support, I can't lose Xiao, I whaled for him! I restarted my ps4 then go back to sleep, in hopes that it will be resolved next morning.

I put my phone down then open my ps4, I prayed to myself that everything is back to normal. Happiness washed over me when I saw that my original party is deployed "must've been a crazy bug.." I chuckled, I change my icon back to Xiao then continue with the grinding "Ooohhh timmie's birds" I smirked, I switched to Xiao then climb the nearest cliff, I glide then plunge on the birds "Free fowls!!" I exclaimed then claim the fowls, my character suddenly switched  back to Venti, I didn't even press anything other than claim fowls "You know I'm getting impatient.." Venti said, again this was not even in his voice lines, then I notice that something is odd with my venti, he kept saying weird lines everytime my attention is drifted to somewhere else, could it be Mihoyo's doings? I hope so, I don't want a ddlc fiasco again.

After farming for his ascension materials, I quit genshin then read some fanfictions in Tumblr, I came across a Kaeya fanfic then proceed to read the contents. All of a sudden, my ps4's screen started to distort, my eyes widened at the sight of it, then a bright light surrounded me, making my head dizzy

"Traveler, you're awake" I woke up to a familiar voice reaching my ears, I blinked my eyes slowly to realize that I'm not in my room, where am I? My jaw dropped when the person I saw in my eyes is none other Venti, this is impossible! He's not real! "Venti...?" I tilt my head in confusion, there's no way this is real.... this must be a dream! The bard showed a genuine smile before putting down his lyre "I'm happy that you pulled for me, I will go crazy if you pulled for him instead, hehe." Venti had a patronizing smile after that, my eyes widened as I sat up "Venti? There's no way that you're real!" I said, feeling my empty pockets, Venti sighed as he stood up, he had his lyre in his hand "Come on Traveler, let's go celebrate the windblume festival." the God reached out his hand, I was reluctant to respond to his offer, he seems a bit suspicious to me, considering my ps4 sucked me in Teyvat. Not to mention, he said these weird lines when I was communicating with my friends, and my controller would move on its own when I'm playing another character "What are you waiting for?" A smile was om his lips, I took his hand then stood up "Ok, let's go." Venti giggled as he led me in Mondstadt, I gaze behind to see the Vennessa tree.

No way.... all of this seemed real... the designs.... the npcs.... all of them are accurate! The only difference is that I don't see control menu "Isn't it beautiful? Traveler?" Venti turned to me, I nodded with hesitant. As my eyes scanned the whole city, Fischl and Bennett were talking to each other, Kaeya,Rosaria, and Diluc at the same table, although Diluc seems poker faced, Barbara was performing for the crowd, Jean and Lisa are eating together, Albedo,Sucrose, and Timaeus are experimenting,Amber is seen gliding, everything seemed lively more than the actual game.... "Come on Traveler!" The bard took my hand without giving me time to consent.

The rustling sounds of the leaves snap me back to reality, it still feels like a dream, did Mihoyo said something about this? The atmosphere is so lively and different "Uh oh woahhh!! Watch out!" Amber then crashed into Noelle, I giggled slightly then turn to the bard who was playing the lyre for a small crowd, as the sweet melodious tone halt to stop, the crowd clapped their hands, I smiled a little bit as I made my way towards him "Did you like it?" Venti inquired, I nodded then smiled, the bard chuckled as he took my hand then led me somewhere.

I realized we were getting far away from the festival, perturbation washed over me "Venti.... where are we going?" sweat dropped on my temples, Venti looked at me with a menacing smile "Somewhere..." 

He led me to starsnatch cliff, the breeze of the wind soothes my nostrils, I can't believe all of these are real.... Venti picked a Cecilia flower then hand it to me, I narrowed my eyes "Are you really.... real?" I gaze at his eyes 

"I'm aware that all of us are just video game characters, that's why I'm a God"

My eyes widened as he said that, he tucked the cecilia behind my ear "Y/n, will you stay here forever..?" The bard took both of my hands, his puppy eyes gleaming, I do want to visit Genshin.... but that does not mean I will abandon my world 

"Venti.... I have my friends and family there..." I said, I averted my gaze to the floor, his grip on me got tighter "Y/n, your world does not need you" his tone was a mix of devastate and anger "All you need is me, you belong here" 

My eyebrows furrowed, what does he mean by that!? "No! I can't just leave everyone! My friends care about me!"  I screamed in frustration. He then uses his anemo powers on me that sent me flying through the air "Arghh! Let me go!!" I desperately try to break free

"Don't you see that I love you? I don't like it when you control me everyday" Venti was feigning sadness on his tone 

"Because you're never real!" I retorted back, a grin was marked on his face "I ever regret pulling for you!" I yelled. The bard went closer then cup my cheeks "So? You already got me, you did this to yourself" then his hands swayed, causing me to fall of the cliff, my life flashed before me, this is it....

i do have some ocs! ive been working on them on and off since high school and i still dont have an overarching story or anything for them but i'll go over the basics if anyone's interested o.o

the basic premise is a group of friends who start a band called good question, but ive always considered the main couple of this universe to be renee and pj (who i just renamed a minute ago dont worry abt it) even tho they aren't really in the band. the band is made up of alysha on lead guitar and vocals, juan on drums, and anis on bass, with meg as a roadie and sati as their social media manager (and also regular manager). calypso is the newest addition to the group, they're the youngest and im not entirely sure how they'll fit in but i think they're just gonna be a younger college student or something. ive sketched and drawn everyone in the group, some more than others, but i'm still really working on their designs and physical & personality traits and backgrounds and all that. i know that pj likes anime and sati & anis are exes and alysha is an amputee and renee is jewish and all kinds of stuff but i haven't really fleshed them out as much as i want to eventually. lmk if ur interested in hearing more abt them bc it would definitely encourage me to work on them more hehe

i dont really remember what my first internet media was, but i feel like it mostly started with youtube and stuff like charlie the unicorn. my first fandoms were book series, the hunger games and hp and the mortal instruments and all that, and im absolutely not into most of it anymore except the hunger games i still think they're brilliant

i'm definitely proud of some of the stuff ive made! i havent been working on my skills as much lately but my gf has been inspiring me bc i love drawing her body <33 so other than those drawings of her in my top posts rn and that taz comic i did a while ago i like these too
