My cats as fire and blood dragons because I want to use my platform to talk about my cats
Tiger: Vermithor. Old ass man, very lazy but aggressive when he plays. He’s kinda the most social of our cats, but because of that he’s unfortunately the favourite of every mildly sexist family member that comes to visit, which is very Vermithorcoded to me. Sorry Tiger :(

Archie: Sunfyre. Pretty boy, a bully to other cats but kinda pathetic and scared around anything slightly bigger than him. Has probably significantly impacted the mouse and bird population for the worse but gets away with it because he’s pretty and blonde-ish and is very Sunfyre-esque for that

Beau: Drogon. Look, I would say he’s the Cannibal if he were an all black cat, but he’s a tuxie and that I think gives more ‘spoiled angry baby’ to his overall personality. He’s mean, he hisses and growls a lot but he’s nice and protective of me specifically and I would trust him enough to bring in a haunted house that’s trying to eat me, so he’s gets Drogoncore <3

Rocky: Sheepstealer. I know- I know the fur colour kinda throws it off but trust me. This man used to be a stray that was so afraid of being around people, but when we gave him treats he immediately started acting like an affectionate housecat. He’s the smallest and skinniest of the boys, he’s a little scraggly but he’s a loyal lil guy and he reminds me sosososo much of Sheepstealer so yah :)

Nala: Meleys. She was a bad bitch and absolutely knew it. She was super agile and fierce, and kinda liked women and girls more than men. Wasn’t afraid to put the other cats in their place which is pretty Meleyscoded to me, and honestly she was an overall badass. She’s been dead for a bit, but I wanted to put her in anyways cause she was super cool and I love and miss her sosososososo much

This isn’t a definitive ranking by any means, seeing as I am just making this post to talk about my pets lol. My cats aren’t dragons, I was just feeling a lil silly today <3
#I love using my fandom related platform to talk about stuff that doesn’t really have anything to do with said fandom <3#also not gonna tag this as anything cause….yah

I love reading your realizations about TTPD! I think that just bc of the dense and emotionally challenging content matter in TTPD it can be harder for people to just drop in and out of casual convo about it (which is why discussions seems to be more lively around more surface level interpretations/muse talk/current events in swiftdom). Not that people don’t want to talk about the deep stuff, but it is harder for the whole dash to be cooking the same sauce at the same time bc some days I might just be too sleepy to delve into the psychoanalysis of exorsizing traumatic demons 😅. I find it helpful when people reblog their own related posts when a new interesting one pops up (and that’s also the best part of tumblr; the zombie like resurgence of older discussion material).
I do also think, fwiw, that there is a lot of hesitancy to discuss certain topics among fans who were on here when Taylor was. It’s not good or bad, and there’s certainly nothing wrong with airing on the side of respect. I feel like sometimes the culture on here tends to rely on euphamisms or censoring ourselves bc we’re worried that others might think we’re crossing a boundary. (Especially if we are trying to take our cues from people who have been here a long time - which could be a good thing!) And the tumblr culture of passive aggression and vague posting can end up being a strong persuasion against posting something that might be more “risky”.
I’m always trying to figure out where my boundaries are wrt what I will get into on my blog, and I often feel like my instincts are not quite in line with the majority of swifties I really really respect. So I keep my thoughts to myself… but maybe it’s okay to push a little further into more interesting subjects and there’s ways to do that and still be respectful. maybe Taylor herself changed the “rules” when she made it clear that she is not on tumblr (at least using her real name) anymore. I think that action sort of reestablished this space as a fan-only space and not a mutual relationship, which might change the approach to discussion, and maybe it’s okay for different blogs to have different personal boundaries. I would probably post differently if Taylor followed me, but she doesn’t, and idk if I would want her to 🤷🏼♀️ .
I think it’s okay to talk about art in a deep way and include public knowledge of the artist, and to connect it to my own life and even it’s okay to be wrong (not ok to spread lies maliciously though). Taylor releases art, not an autobiographical testimony (even if TTPD purposefully invokes and validates that!)… I honestly think it sometimes does a disservice to her artistry when we self-sensor our commentary. Art should be talked about!!! Idk I think I’ll always be navigating that dilemma as long as Im active on my swiftie blog (and, I think she will always continue to wrestle with her end of that bargain in her art for as long as she chooses to be in the public eye). And! I adore the space you’ve carved out here and the perspectives and opinions you share about Taylor’s ouevre!
Anon thanks for your very thoughtful insight!
I do get that TTPD is dense and I feel like I should get better at tagging so that people can skip it on their dash if they're not interested or something because my thoughts are often equally dense lmao.
That's actually a really interesting observation that perhaps some of the self-regulation comes from the fact that this actually used to be a platform Taylor engaged with and I hadn't considered that. I guess that may be one of the byproducts about being a latecomer to the online fandom (though not to tumblr or to Taylor's music-- e.g. I knew Taylor was on Tumblr but I was invested in other fandoms at the time so never really engaged in Swiftie tumblr until the pandemic because I can only handle one fixation at a time apparently lol) in that I don't don't know how much that has influenced fandom behaviour.
I count myself extremely fortunate for finding a small community here that has welcomed me so generously, so I largely don't see or experience negativity and have a mercifully curated fandom experience. But even at that, I feel the unease about the potential threat of, well, unpleasantness, and it's a weird sort of limbo to find yourself in when at the end of the day, you're just a person with a blog typing from the safety of your own little hovel like anyone else here.
And it's also such a fine line to straddle because on the one hand, you want to be respectful and not invasive, but on the other hand, the art is SO rich and SO revealing, and Taylor herself has spoken about how gratifying it is for her to be known, even the parts that would be considered unsavoury or unpleasant or prying, which I find incredibly brave. Obviously that doesn't mean people should be stalking her or making insinuations or presumptions or whatever, but I also absolutely agree with you that I think sometimes the policing (and I'm not talking about anyone in the community here, I'm talking about the internet in general) almost does a disservice to that wish of hers to be seen. I don't know if that makes any sense.
For instance, you all know how much I love TTPD with all my heart and think it's the quintessential thirtysomething album, because its themes and experiences are so, so, so common, if not in detail than certainly in emotion. The same can be said for her other albums. I have friends who have gone through the oven-microwave/wedding-no wedding/etc. experience and I wish they were Swifties because I feel like they'd be blasting this on a loop lol.
I can think of so many other examples, but the other day I was in the car with a friend and she started talking about something difficult she'd gone through last year in a way she's only beginning to really process now, and I had to resist the urge to say "there's a Taylor Swift song about that," but it was true-- what she was saying was just like, exactly what the song was about, with pretty remarkable parallels (and even wording). And all jokes aside about there being a song for everything, I was thankful that by being familiar with Taylor's work, I actually felt like I had an even better understanding and way to be supportive of my friend in her sharing this. And what I mean by this all is, what a gift it is that there is this art that delves into these very human experiences: not just the difficult, the sorrowful, the painful, but also the joyful and life-affirming. I'd have to imagine that's part of why Taylor feels it's so important to share her work: not just so that she's known, but that others can feel seen in return. Nobody is alone out there when you know that someone else has been there or can understand you. And why the good feels so good after going through the bad.
(Actually now that I think of it, I was at another friend's house the other day and we also had a completely different conversation that was exactly in line with "Robin" which is another example of the breadth of Taylor's songwriting and reflections on life.)
So while I absolutely understand being sick of rehashing the same old things all the time, to me the reason why I'm constantly thinking of this music is BECAUSE it's so relatable. Having conversations with friends here sheds light on new things or forms new connections. Thinking about my own experiences or those of my loved ones connects even deeper. I don't want to make presumptions, but I would venture to guess Taylor would find that really wonderful too, as someone who spends her life distilling her own lived experience into something weirdly universal.
There's obviously a line fans shouldn't cross when talking about these things, but I guess it's trying to figure out that line. And personally I'm just always trying to be conscious of if I'm being annoying by talking about these things over and over again, even though I'm not coming from a place of like, obsession (much lol), but more like, new understanding or appreciation on each listen. I've said before that Taylor's music scratches the same kind of itch that prestige TV dramas do, in that they're not only entertaining on a surface level (to listen to), but the storytelling is so interconnected, and having knowledge of not only her discography but the experiences that informed it I think makes it even more poignant. So you can enjoy the music for what it is (which I absolutely do -- I'm not saying I do a critical analysis on each listen! Some days I just want to yell I LOVE YOU AIN'T THAT THE WORST THING YOU'VE EVER HEARD), but it's also not wrong to be impressed by and inspired by the layers underneath.
I suppose I'm lucky in that my platform is tiny and inconsequential so I have certain freedoms I know many blogs don't, and I probably don't need to tread as lightly as I feel like I do right now. Maybe I'll get braver in the new year if the mood strikes lol.
Thanks so much for the food for thought anon!

Wolfe is kinda weird.. but what you said and what I have seen of Wolfie myself they’re just a odd person altogether because they’re always under Brent‘s post
like if they’re not first they’re definitely in there somewhere and there’s more things I can yap about, but I’m not gonna say it in this ask because it would be irrelevant of what I’m gonna say next
In my opinion, I have never seen any head cannon about the party crashers on Twitter or like any other platform they are on and it’s just you would have to search for that shit like deliberately go searching for it if you wanna find something like that and like use those sub tags or whatever they’re called to find something like that
because Twitter they are very good at hiding and they’re freaky stuff so I don’t know why they would know that unless they were talking about it in the YouTube comment which YouTube is kind of sketchy
so I would not guess they weren’t but I’m just rambling unless wolfe is projecting, and they have some deep dark secrets in their own mind but that’s debatable
Holy yap session
Long story short wolfe maybe is a freak in disguise and has a guilty pleasure of the crashers
projection always at the scene of the crime
I adore whenever anything happens because i always have no idea what anyones talking about and then in only a few hours i become painfully aware. I learn new lore to consider in my anyalsis posts. Love my anons
I like to think im pretty vigilant of main twt and unfortunately i also keep a eye on the reddit so i know most everything that happens. And for the life of me i couldent figure out what “hcs” and assumptions people outside of tumblr were making.
Even in tiktok where rpf thrives they mainly just ship them.i havent seen any hcs. The theory its cause of the new video would be valid but mostly people either related to the crashers struggles or teared up in empathy. I didnt even get in my anayalists posts out i was busy.
Its such a odd thing to be upset about im leaning towards the crush theory. Cause whatever parasocial hcs wolfs talking about doesn’t exist. Close to where the crashers are anyway.
theres so many things a “normal” person would be upset at this fandom for. The shipping Didnt come to mind first? the fuckinh headcannons are were wolf draws the line. did nobody hc brent as in love with him is that why were getting this lecture.
Somthing about this is rubbing me the wrong way. its lile he didnt even look at the fandom before yapping, what is he really mad about…
i dont appricate being called cringe btw. maybe get that fursona some real highlights instead looking it fell in a easter egg dyeing kit and we can talk about cringe.

Hello, hello, my lovelies! This is a Wind Breaker post and a personal post all in one, so I hope this doesn’t bore anyone too much. I’m going to try to be mindful of my tags and such on here, be very responsible with them.
Anyway, onto story time? I phrase that as a question because it is technically story-time in a way but also just me kind of rambling, as I am prone to do. This post might get long, but please allow me space to talk and go on tangents and such, my dears 💜 I really appreciate it when you all do allow me that and love you for it. But, to be nice, I will hide this under a read-more, haha.
This whole post and everything I’m going to kind of be talking about was inspired by, I guess, being the best phrase to use, a recent fandom post I made and a reply to it. It really stems from how I view a certain character and the language I use based around them, how I categorize them. Before I even get into it proper, I will say that the way I engage with fandoms and the things I enjoy might be a bit different from how others do – I do only watch the anime and read the manga for Wind Breaker and all my other fandoms and then I come and I write for the characters because it makes me happy to do so. I share that happiness with others, hoping to find a sense of community and fun. I read other people’s writing, whether it be fanfic, headcanons, or just ranting. I follow certain tags and love seeing pretty official art or fanart come across my screen but I don’t really go out and search for additional tweets from the author/cast, interviews, untranslated chapters, or additional materials that aren’t really available on my preferred watching/reading platform like special chapters, pages, etc.. It’s just never been a big thing for me. So, I will be the first one to admit that I might be missing information – my views and opinions are only based off the manga translations I’ve read and the anime itself and sometimes can be coloured by those in the fandoms whose stuff I’m a huge fan of and secretly hide behind my screen fangirling over without having the courage to go up to and tell ‘you’re frigging amazing and a large part of why I ever even got into this thing, bless you and thank you.’
Moving on…this is kind of about how I view Tsubaki and also kind of not. It’s not complicated or anything. That’s just the truth of the matter – this post and others that will follow it are both about this one thing and also not at all about this thing.
We’ll start off with the thing. I will admit that this is quite honestly possibly a matter of me reading a different translation from a more official one when it comes to the manga. There might be phrasing issues in what I read that don’t exist in other translations. There’s more than likely very much a lot that doesn’t translate well from Japanese into English, as I do know that personal pronouns are more gendered in that language compared to the pretty equilateral and simple ‘I’ that exists within the English language (English being a shit language overall in comparison to a lot of others). But there was a lot of things within the translations that I read that led me to personally start seeing Tsubaki as someone who is a trans woman. I cannot remember the exact whole quote, but upon introduction, in the translation I read, it said something like ‘I was born a man’ instead of ‘I am a man’, for example, as well as other character’s referring to Tsubaki in forms that aren’t traditionally used to address someone who is male, Tsubaki referring to themselves as a ‘big sister’, as well as reaction shots and moments from Tsubaki when others talked about their gender or used the term ‘crossdressing’ in relation to Tsubaki. It’s a bunch of little things that added up to me really interpreting the character in that way. I’ve had discussions with a friend who has also read the manga (the only friend I have who has read the manga haha) and their opinions lean more towards Tsubaki being non-binary who likes to fuck with gender and simply wants to live free of social norms around gender and I think that is an amazing, very valid opinion as well and just as good a take as mine. I have seen posts that do just say that Tsubaki is just a gay guy and simply likes crossdressing and while I don’t personally see the character the same way, again, very valid takes on all sides! My opinion and view of the character might also grow and change and morph as more and more chapters get released, who knows? But currently, that is how I personally interpret the character.
So, like I always do, I wanted to make a post explaining why I think this way about Tsubaki and because I’m me, I’m someone who likes to fully explain my reasoning. I’m someone who likes to come with screencaps, direct quotes, things that I can show and dissect to explain properly, with the dignity it deserves and the level of passion and commitment the person I’m talking to and the material itself deserves, ‘okay, this is what I’m thinking and why.’ Problem was, aside from maybe one or two pages, I was so caught up in reading Wind Breaker the first time that I didn’t take a lot of screen grabs. I also forgot exact chapters for moments so, in hoping to make that post (which I still very much will at some point), I was like ‘okay, I’ll do a quick speed reread. It will take a day at most.’
Before we move onto the reason I’m not quite doing that here, I will again reiterate that I do view Tsubaki in that way and, in my personal talks about that character, I will probably continue to refer to them using she/her pronouns or perhaps she/they pronouns. I am more than completely willing to use masculine pronouns to refer to the character in reader-requested posts and such, because I aim to please when it comes to writing for all you lovelies. But I am going to establish two tags to be used for any posts where I do use those pronouns when it comes to Tsubaki - #fem!tsubaki and #fem!tsubaki tasuku will henceforth be used for that. If that interpretation of the character is one that bothers you or is simply one that you don’t want to read about, that’s more than cool! My way is not the only way to view a character or in any way the exact right way to view a character. If you want to still see my Wind Breaker writing (my queue is currently at about three months and buried somewhere within those three months there are numerous smutty headcanons for multiple characters plus a couple fluffy pieces for Jo, Ume, Hiragi, and Kotoha), but don’t want to read anything to do with Tsubaki, block those tags and that should do it! If you simply don’t want to read anything I have to say about Wind Breaker, block my blog. It’s really that simple 😊 I won’t take offense to it, as long as you’re not a dick about it, I promise! I believe firmly in everyone cultivating their own internet experiences!
Moving on past that though, we’re going to kind of get into the reason why I didn’t just do that speed reread and make that post. It’s something I’ve vaguely hinted at wanting to do previously on this blog but have just never actually found the courage to do. It’s something that really hit me as I was rereading the first twenty or so chapters. It’s that I really, really kind of want to do a ‘read with me’ kind of thing. I want to really be able to talk about Wind Breaker a lot more in depth, I want to be able to share my thoughts on it, on the characters, on the moments between them, the story itself, the art, the differences in impact between the anime and the manga to me. So, while the idea still terrifies me, after getting support, encouragement, and love from three wonderful friends of mine, I’m trying to battle the anxiety and do exactly that.
You’ll start seeing these posts start to come out. I’ll be going chapter by chapter and sort of page by page for the most part. The first couple chapters, like most manga, are about twice the length of normal chapters, so they’ll be done in two separate posts/parts. These posts will be, as mentioned, page by page for the most part so, if anyone hypothetically wanted to, they really could just do an actual read-through with me, just with added commentary. The commentary and everything I say, to be as blunt, clear, and honest as I can be, is my own personal thoughts on the manga. Any analysis of characters or moments will be a very subjective one because it’s how I’m reading/viewing it through my own lens and with my own biases. Any negative or positive comments are simply how I see things and are, by god, the furthest thing from the only way to see things or even the correct way to see things. They’re all entirely my own opinions and, as I’ve said before, opinions are like assholes. Everyone’s got them, including me, and they can sometimes be shitty.
I will be doing everyone the decency of hiding all these posts under read-mores, as they will get very long since I talk a lot. Length is really going to be based on how much is actually happening in any given chapter but given the amazing pacing of Wind Breaker, they’re likely going to be long posts that I try to make as interesting and insightful as I can. I will also be hiding under read-mores for any spoilers, but I will not be using the #wind breaker spoilers or #wbk spoilers tags for chapters that have already been adapted in anime format. Anything after the current run of the anime will be spoiler tagged, so again, block those tags if those are things you really don’t want to see until you’re caught up. For anyone wishing to not see these posts at all but who don’t want to unfollow or block me, please block the tag #read with dee: wind breaker 😊

A Short Discussion on Fandom Culture
I’m going to admit: I’m very unfamiliar with fandom culture. I only really got into fandom in the past handful of years, and before that I observed from a distance. I always was one to enjoy media in a very insular way and my internet usage existed elsewhere. Because of that, coming across fandom discourse that seems to be run-of-the-mill to folks who have been in these circles for a long time has been a little jarring for me, especially because of how emotionally people engage with said talking points. It definitely does not help that these points are being discussed on twitter, a platform notorious for limiting your ability to communicate to the best of your ability, but even then I find it kind of fascinating how emotional fandom spaces are. As somebody who has problems with not approaching anything with her emotions and keeps things very analytical and logical, I kind of love it. Sometimes. Other times, it tends to make my brain bootloop trying to comprehend the kind of stuff people say.
For an example of this, I want to approach a particular twitter thread from my perspective as somebody who is new to this whole fandom thing and only started engaging in full capacity through fanfiction just under a year ago. I’m also just curious to see what happens when something like this is thrown into the ringer.
So the tweet goes as such: in a quote retweet asking for what amounts to Honkai: Star Rail related hot takes, a twitter user writes:
“Headcanoning a characters[sic] sexuality is the cheapest way to relate to a character. And many of you in this fandom who do so, only do so because that's all YOU are. No character, no life experience...just a bunch of robots who have nothing more to them than their sexuality.”
Rhetorically, the first tweet of this thread has holes more numerous than moldy cheese, but that’s something I’ve been trying to keep myself from picking at because, at the end of this day, this discourse doesn’t have much room for rhetoric or anything of the sort. Like I said in the opening, it’s almost all grounded in emotion, and it seemingly always has been if my many hours of watching fandom historians talk about the exploits of various characters on early fandom internet are to be believed. And it’s important to remember that’s really where fandom comes from: this entirely emotional and completely illogical connection we have with characters and stories that make us incredibly giddy and excited to even think about. It’s an excitement that leads us to draw, write stories, and create headcanons because the only thing better than the characters we like are versions of characters we like that we can relate to.
When I first read this tweet, one of my first thoughts was “what does ‘cheap’ mean in this context?” Because it really is kind of an empty word in this context since it’s assigning value to something that simply doesn’t. What constitutes a “cheap” way of relating to a character? Why is relating to headcanoned sexuality less valuable than relating to something like headcanoned race or gender or trauma? In fact, how is any of that less valuable than relating to canon race or canon gender or canon trauma?
Later in the thread, OP brings up an example with a web manga called She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat. I will admit first hand I have not read this, but the summary they gave talks about one of the characters having an upbringing which did not discuss any concepts of queerness and ends up having a discussion with another character about being gay, where she comes to the conclusion that she is gay. They then go on to say:
“THAT'S a real relatable story and that's what the story is about, so for me in comparison slapping a "she's lesbian" onto a character who's story is not about that In an attempt to relate to them feels cheap, when there are REAL relatable gay characters who's stories tackle these sorts of issues. Like make a Doujin/fanfic those[sic] never hurt anyone but all this fanon being canon stuff just feels kinda cheap from where I'm standing.”
I’m going to get out of the way the one single point out of this thread that I agree with: and that’s the fact that I’m not a huge fan of people asserting things that are very much not canon as being such. There is a difference between canon and implication, and a lot of people jump the gun rather quickly when they see something that softly implies queerness and call it canon. Now, will I admit that the line between canon and implication is rather fuzzy? Of course. At what point did Kavaithem become indisputably canon? I don’t know, and I don’t know if anybody could point it out. But as far as I’m concerned, even as somebody who isn’t into BL, it is as close to canon as something can get without there being an Azure Waters moment.
Aside from that, I think something that needs to be kept in mind is that why people want to relate to characters differs wildly. I would aline myself somewhere in the same realms as the OP in terms of why I relate to characters: I find a lot of value in headcanoning certain characters in certain ways and exploring those relationships. That’s why I love writing Arlefuri so much: there’s layers to it. It is a really fascinating ship to engage with on an intellectual and artistic level, because it is toxic if you choose to depict it that way. That’s also why I love headcanoning Hu Tao as ace, even though I am very much not ace. Hu Tao is such a fascinating character to me, and especially as a character that gets very sexualized all over the place online in a very specific way, giving her back sexual agency to me is very fascinating.
But there’s an entirely different side of the story: people headcanon characters as a certain sexuality because it makes them happy. And if you really want to be reductive, you can take the entire previous paragraph and translate it to “I headcanon Arlecchino as a lesbian and Hu Tao as asexual because it makes me happy.” Just because I can throw some intellectual reasoning behind it doesn’t mean that it’s automatically more valid than the person who headcanons Robin as a Lesbian purely because she’s pretty and has jewelry on her face with the colors of the lesbian flag. And again it goes back to that idea that this entire fandom thing to me is letting the emotions win over the logic and doing whatever makes you feel happy. And for some people, that’s headcanoning their favorite character to be their sexuality because they have no other way of expressing their sexuality, didn’t get to grow up expressing their sexuality, or because their sexuality isn’t expressed commonly in media and they want to feel represented.
“… Relating to a character has gotta be something deeper, so slapping a "She's lesbian" onto a character who's story isn't about that when there are stories that protray[sic] real and relatable struggles is cheap to me. A good amount of my favourite[sic] characters aren't my sexuality and I don't have to headcanon them as such, just for me to relate to them. So here's where it is, if you need to rely on some headcanon to make a character relatable then what does that say about you?”
I really don’t think there are people that headcanon a character as a sexuality purely in order to relate to them, and instead I think it’s the other way around. People will relate to a character and headcanon them to be their sexuality just to make relating that much easier and more enjoyable. (Again, the idea that this is all just for fun and people do it to make their time interacting with things more enjoyable.)
So no, I definitely don’t think that relating to a character has to amount to something “deeper,” because, putting aside the fact that “deeper” doesn’t really mean anything, it’s important more than ever to remember that maybe to me or you saying a character is a lesbian might not mean much, but to someone else, it might mean the world. And beyond that, there is nothing else anybody can say about the person behind the screen aside from that person themselves. Nobody can say how shallow or deep of a person they are, because we’re all people hiding behind screens and keyboards that only share very curated versions of ourselves to the people out there, even if reflexively, so the person that headcanons a random character as a lesbian for no other reason than they want to might have the most interesting life behind the screen, and they interact with such “simple” headcanoning because they want some normalcy or simplicity in their life.
To me, how somebody chooses to headcanon characters tells me nothing about who they are because there are an infinite number of reasons why they might do such a thing in such a way. And after watching toxic fandom for a while now, I really think that’s where things break down: people forget that the person on the other side of the screen isn’t them. They make the assumption that the person on the other side of the screen has their life or their belief system, but was led astray. That’s not true: even the OP of this thread lives in a completely different situation from my own, has entirely different life experiences from my own, and has a completely different belief system to my own, and when toxic fandom forgets that, they go into discussion with the belief that some strongly worded tweets will “set them straight” so to speak, when in reality even a two thousand word essay talking about a short tweet thread probably won’t sway the OP at all, and I accept that. That’s why my main purpose for this is to talk about toxic fandom culture I’ve seen at large, using OP’s tweet as a starting point. I want to share my opinion just as much as OP did.
And, for the record: as a person who likes to headcanon and relate to characters much the same as the OP of this thread, I can pretty confidently say that I have a lot less character and life experience compared to the people on my timeline that headcanon out of nothing but vibes. People that are willing to engage in pure and fanatical whimsy just because they feel like it are often the most interesting.

Wait....what if they're actually a cult of puppets.... (TW: for mentions of cults and spoilers)

I found this thread on Twitter and Andrew Allen (one of the writers of the game) said the following
I'm starting to think the whole "Family thing" may not be like "Oh they're an actual family" but rather a "What if this is a plot line is a more obscure reference to actual cults, and a some sort of tw: for serial life killers"///The Charles Manson cult. Who also referred to each other as family"//
I want to add things that reinforced this point or something that might be related to that theory.
The fact that Mortimer (as far as in the gameplay) is the only true voice and it's always right about stuff. What I mean with this is that I was wondering why the characters never hated Mortimer even tho he pretty much verbally and physically abuse them. Even at the last tape of their storyline (minor spoilers) Riley never said Mortimer was a bad leader but just said that he was becoming unsteady.
Mortimer's changing behavior towards the tapes. I won't give spoilers since I don't want to spoil stuff for everyone. I just realized that Mortimer does kinda have that slow descent into madness and paranoia that cult leaders tend to have as their rule start to become more unsteady and abusive.
This particular chorus + one of Mortimer's sentences in show everyone.

In Defense of Abuela Alma
It will be a bit surprising to say that one of my favorite characters from Encanto, was Alma Madrigal. As far as I see, the majority of the fandom doesn’t really seem to like her as a character or as a protagonist in general. It appears that the fandom seem her as villainous rather than antagonistic (which is her actual role.) After talking with a fellow Tumblr pal, I decided to give Alma a small the defense in regarding her role as a character.
Disclaimer: I am not going to justify Alma’s actions as she’s clearly in the wrong in the movie, but I will defend her as a broken woman with good intentions but who never really saw the way for her mistakes instead of a cruel figure who gets “redeemed” because of power of love. Still, I am going to adress her flaws as a character, and give my perspective on the roots. Still, there will be not justificiations, and this is just for entretainment :)
She’s a very complex character and an amazing example of how grief and trauma can affect us.
I’ll break my defense through parts and also take my family experience and my perspective as an actual Colombian woman from a similar family structured as Los Madrigals in Encanto (and maybe go over the reasons about why I never really dislike or hate Abuela.)
I am not here to change minds, but just rather present my perspective on Abuela in this very long post. I’m also doing this for fun and talking it as a fun writing exercise :D
Part 1. Alma is an antagonist, not a villain
Before y’all come to bash me with the whole “Aren’t those the same thing?” Let me tell you that an antagonist and the villain are not the same thing. This honestly is one of my biggest pet peeves in storytelling.
Yes. A villain can be an antagonist (which is mostly the roles), but an antagonist isn’t necessarily a villain. Let’s get through the basic definitions.
A villain is an evil doer who purposely harms people and will directly oppose the hero or protagonist with the intent of harm.
An antagonist, is someone who opposes the view of the hero but doesn’t necessarily mean that they have bad intentions.
Abuela Alma never had bad intentions throughout the movie, but she opposed Mirabel’s view on how the magic could be saved and what is really tearing this family apart. She never really tells Mirabel off with bad intentions, she just has a different perspective that opposes her which creates conflict.
The reason of why we Alma is seen in a bad light is because we are seeing Mirabel’s point of view in the entire situation. We know how Mirabel feels and how she feels, but we don’t really see the full Alma Madrigal in the film but rather glances of her that make her seen as the “bad guy” of Mirabel’s story.
Still, that does NOT justify Abuela’s terrible actions. I’m just stating that we don’t get to really see how Alma perceive things which can explain (NOT justify) the way she acts.
One of the things I find interesting when analyzing characters (still, taking from the previous point) is how the story can actually shifts perspectives, roles, and overall who is the actual good guy of the story. Encanto doesn’t have villains, it just have complex antagonist that challenge Mirabel’s POV (like the town talking terribly about Bruno, or her difficult relationship with Alma.) Just like the town’s perspective of Bruno, Alma’s perpective on what’s right is meant to clash with Mirabel’s perspective on the things, which creates conflict and advances the story but doesn’t necessarily make anyone from the sort the antagonist.
Of course that many people were wrong about Bruno and what was really causing the conflicts, but there are not really strong reasons to make them villains. Not to mention that the movie is not about who is wrong or who is right, it was about a dysfunctional family accepting themselves, which really highlights Alma’s role to oppose Mirabel’s view but also represent the other side of the argument.
Alma’s antagonical role, in structure wise, represents the argumentative side in oposition to the role Mirabel plays in “Encanto.” She, as a character, perfectly balances out Mirabel better than the town or any of the family members like Isabela (who also seems to have conflict with Mirabel in the story), and her interaction with Mirabel throughout the movie is more intense because they are kind of the two sides of the same conflict:
What is really best for the Madrigal family and how can we preserve the magic?
Still, everyone’s entitled to their own perspective and opinions and portray the character as they want. I just disagree with the way some people portray Alma, which is fine not everyone is going to like her, but I feel that she is a great character to analyze over rather than just say she’s a bad person.
Part 2. Abuela does love and cares for Mirabel and her family, She’s just taking her role as the matriarch of the family.
Alma can be seen as quite cold and strict for being an abuela and placing a lot of pressure under her family, which can make believe she only cares about their gifts. Let me tell you that my Abuela was certainly like Alma when growing up with her. Just as Alma, my Nana lost her husband at a pretty young age and had to take care of six children all by herself. Based from stories my mom and my aunts told me about my Abuela, she was quite stern and could be quite mean at times, but that was the way she was raised as and she had a lot to carry (plus grieving over her death husband.)
They never justify her actions, but they mentioned that my abuela had to make a lot of sacrifices just like Alma had to make. She made a lot of mistakes, but did what she thought was best for the family and as the matriarch. Abuela is very respected in our family as a woman who rose from poverty and raised my amazing family by herself, and now gets to travel a lot + she’s a very sweet woman with a gentle soul who makes mistakes as a human being.
So, I could see a lot of my abuela in Alma Madrigal. Both had to be stern because she needed to keep order around the house as a matriarch. At first glance you could believe my Abuela didn’t care about us just like people believe that Alma doesn’t, but in reality both always thought about their family in the actions they took. I’m not going to say that they were the right actions, but both have good intentions.
Now, let me talk about the important role Alma has as the family’s matriarch and abuela. Maybe my Hispanic culture is a lot different from other cultures (I’m taking the American perspective, since I live in the U.S.), but Hispanic abuelas aren’t your sweet old ladies that bake cookies. They are quite stern, strict, and will not hesitate to correct you, or hit you with a chancla for misbehaving. Still, they show how much they love you in their own though way just as Alma does with her family. After watching once against the breakfast scene. Let me tell you that is Alma is acting just as a Hispanic abuela and a matriarch would. My abuela was quite stern and strict with me, but she only wanted to see me grow into the best version of myself just as Abuela wants for her family.
I’ll go on to talk about the probably reasons of her “cold demeanor” and the pressure she places in the next section because I noticed something important about her role in the story and story building of the movie that I don’t know if it is addressed in here, but I’ll address it anyways because it is very important about understanding Abuela Alma in Encanto.
Anyways, I was rewatching as many scenes with Alma interacting with the other family members, and I was trying to look upon her expressions and her tone of voice. I found myself chuckling at how cute her positive interactions were or how soft her tone was when she spoke (when she was not upset.) I honestly love the way she speaks with Mirabel in most of her scenes. Her tone is not cold or distant, she speaks with noticeable love and affection. Of course that she scolds her, but she still sounds caring. She just acts as a mother correcting her child with Mirabel in most of the misunderstandings prior to the whole climax of the scene.
I also loved the fact that, even though she didn’t really appreciate having animals on her seat, she thank Antonio for his consideration instead of scolding him for his actions. I know that some of you would say that she didn’t do that because he was a child, or that her parents were around, but in that same scene she scolds Mirabel. As I mentioned before, Hispanic abuelas will not hesitate to correct you if you did something wrong or scold you. That means that they don’t care if your parents are around, you’re never save from the chancla. I guarantee that fac based on experience.
Anyways, Alma in majority of the film treats her family with respect but is quite strict and a bit pushy, since she’s the leader of the Madrigals and the martriarch. Still, she genuienly showed cared for the family and never really was that mean to them. When she was angry or scolding them, for me (since my Abuela is like that) she was just taking her role and the duty to mantain things in order. She was correcting them when she felt whenever it was needed, but she does show love and appriciation for them in her tone of voice. Still, she made serval mistakes with her family, and that is not excuse to how they negatively affect it.
Before y’all come with the whole “She was blaming Mirabel for the magic being lost.” I think it was something she said in the heat of the momment, I’m NOT saying that what she said was okay, but I’m only saying that she never really meant that. In that scene Alma was probably upset over Mirabel for “misbehaving” (more on that in another section), and Casita being a mess. It also didn’t help that Mirabel was rambling about the magic, and Alma was having none of that. It had happened to me and many loved ones that we scream things that we never meant to say. We are just not thinking clearly. I do believe that is what happened with Alma in that scene as later in the film she tells Mirabel that was never her fault.
Note: I like of the cracks of Casita really represents how the family is really falling appart, and I just find quite heartbreaking the final cracks are dividing Mirabel and Alma after she tells her Abuela about why she is wrong.

I just finished my first novel length fanfic!! How did that happen? I'm still a little bit in awe of myself and very very proud. I've been thinking about how I got to this point and I want to share what I learned while writing it, because writing can be a solitary, independent activity, but it doesn't have to be. So, in case this is useful to any other fic writers out there...
Three Things I Learned While Writing My First Novel Length Fanfic:
1. “Write for yourself” is bullshit advice in an ecosystem driven by sharing
I started writing my novel-length fic, Bring the World Back Into Tune, in November 2020. Four or five chapters into posting it, I almost abandoned the project all together. Why? Because I felt “nobody” was reading it. The Old Guard fandom is dominated by Joe/Nicky content. There are so many reasons to love Joe and Nicky and their relationship, but compared to my Joe/Nicky fic, Bring the World Back Into Tune (btwbit, hereafter) was getting a miniscule number of hits and comments and kudos. And I thought it was a better crafted story than anything else I’d shared at that point! I wanted to tell this story, but I also wanted to share this story, and those are related but distinct.
Fandom is an ecosystem built on sharing. These days, Archive of Our Own has given fandoms a safe place to host creations. Tumblr is a platform designed to promote engagement by sharing and re-sharing content. Discord is a platform designed for discussion. I am not a fandom old, so I can’t speak to this personally, but the folks who were creating and mailing physical zines? That was also an ecosystem of sharing, the internet has just expedites the time frame. Fandom is about sharing, not about creating.
I didn’t quit writing btwbit because there were people who told me they were enjoying reading it, because I had a handful of people who were commenting on each chapter. I realized that “write for yourself” was bullshit because I was already writing for an audience. Maybe it wasn’t the audience that I’d dreamed of, or as big an audience as I’d hoped, but I realized that internet fandom had given me an audience and so I started writing for them. Each chapter was a gift to the folks who were reading the story. Framing why I was working on this huge, sprawling fic in this way helped keep me motivated to finish it.
I also realized that audience and community are related. The more people I got to know by being present in fandom spaces -- in AO3 comments, in tumblr group chats, in discord servers -- the more people I got invested in the fic because they liked me, not necessarily the ship or the premise. Part of finding my audience ended up being building it, and that too contributed to my enjoyment of writing the story.
2. Beta readers are the best thing you can do for a fic
I think I may have said this in every single author’s note, but btwbit would be a very different and much worse fic if it weren’t for marbletopempire’s beta work.
I didn’t start out with a beta because I’ve a degree in English literature, damnnit, and I’ve got confidence in my ability to craft a story. I am also a damn good beta reader myself and I know that beta reading is a relationship built upon trust. When I started writing btwbit, there wasn’t anyone I trusted with it.
Marble became my beta because I began beta-ing for her. And I began betaing for marble because I was commenting on every chapter of her fic. I found her because I was engaging with the fandom. I was willing to let her into the writing process for btwbit because I had gotten to know her as a writer and a friend.
There were a couple of pivotal moments when marble gave me notes that came down to “would your characters really do that?” and every single time the answer was “no, they wouldn’t.” Sometimes this made the story longer. Sometimes this was a reminder that btwbit was not every Book of Nile story, it was my Book of Nile story, and, ultimately, a romance.
Also, find people to help you get the details right. Sometimes research is enough, but sometimes a conversation with a person who has experiences different than your own that might help you bring realism and nuance to your characters is transformative. @nevermindirah helped me out a couple of times and their insights helped shape and define a couple of pivotal moments of the fic (and I learned stuff that didn’t make it directly into the fic, too).
3. The hardest things to write are often the most rewarding
Mostly I’m talking about writing smut.
But, yeah, sometimes writing is hard, but with a community and audience by your side, it is very very worth it.

——— BASICS !

(PEN)NAME: livita, but everyone just calls me livi
PRONOUNS: she/her. i won’t throw a huge fuss if you call me they/them or he/him, though, because i understand not everyone would be able to remember what everyone’s pronouns are on this hellsite
ZODIAC SIGN: aries-taurus cusp
TAKEN OR SINGLE: single but not interested so whatever you do, please don’t seriously flirt with me, i’m begging
——— THREE FACTS !
i have a dog named ‘zuko’ i regularly walk. he’s a miniature american eskimo and for some reason, he really likes rice, oranges, and sponge cake, so me and my family like to joke that he’s an ‘asian dog’ instead of an american dog.
i know it’s probably a running joke at this point considering most of my muses are from very obscure fandoms, but the less mainstream a series is, the more likely it would be that i’m into it.
i may not want to have sex with anyone specific despite constantly being horny, but i still love reading h/entai because 2D coochie and d/ick is very 👌 imo.
——— EXPERIENCE !
PLATFORMS USED: gaiaonline, quizilla, email, discord ( but i discovered it wasn’t for me due to the character limit ),
i think i’ve been roleplaying on tumblr ever since i was 17?? and as of now, i’m 25, so that would amount to... 8 years in total.
——— MUSE PREFERENCE !
GENDER: male and masc-leaning muses, tbh. i mean, as much as i may adore writing with female muses, i don’t often tend to pick up female muses myself, due to the fact not many from canon series really appeal to me, to the point where you could say i’m just picky. /sweats while nervously gesturing to my muses list that contains only two female muses with the rest solely comprising of men and (1) non-binary person, whose gender is canonically a huge spoiler/not meant to be known until way later on in the game
honestly, it could be that i’m just very underwhelmed by the way people write/design women, but rarely would a female character make me go ‘!!!’ in the same way male characters usually would. also, even when i do like a female character’s design, their personality might not be eccentric enough to my tastes... but as soon i pull fiorito from granblue fantasy, i might add her to my multi. ofc, i would also pick up kokoro surugadai from monark too, if only because she’s autistic coded and i relate to her very heavily as a character, but she reads to me as a fifteen year old ( despite having attended college overseas ) and unlike with ryuto, aging her up would make me uncomfortable.
LEAST FAVOURITE FACE(S): as of recently, it has just been those from honkai impact, genshin impact, drakengard 3, and fire emblem: three houses, for simply... personal reasons i won’t get into here, but it’s not as if i won’t interact with muses that specifically stem from those series. i just might not follow or approach those blogs first.
MULTI OR SINGLE: despite the fact i have a multi, i’m honestly more used to running single muse blogs, but so far, i prefer single muse blogs if only because they’re much easier to organize and require less tags/pages to seem ‘complete’.
——— FLUFF / ANGST / SMUT ! ♡
FLUFF: i am a big fan of fluff, tbh. in fact, it doesn’t matter if it’s even platonic or romantic... i just like writing my muses hugging someone or expressing their affection for someone, because whenever it does happen, it’s really wholesome and makes my heart come alive. ofc, i may not get to write it as often as i’d like, but i honestly love those soft, tender moments between two muses who care about each other a lot.
ANGST: i’m not a fan of piling on angst with more angst for the sake of being edgy, cause there comes a point when it simply becomes too much, but angst with a happy ending is my sort of shit. i also like when muses react to/learn the sad stuff that happens in another muse’s past or muses talking about sad stuff with one another, whether it be about their own feelings or whatever it is that is currently troubling them.
SMUT: I LOVE SMUT. i just have to be in a certain headspace to be able to write it well, which is usually whenever i’m on my period or i am super horny. contrary to popular belief, though, i don’t exactly touch myself to smut rps or anything weird like that; in fact, beyond my face just being ‘C:<’, i don’t actually react much to smutty replies/asks, ooc speaking. ofc, i’ll try my best to portray my muses as canonly as possible when it comes to sexual scenarios even if their kinks don’t align with mine, but my favourite dynamic to write will definitely always be maledom/femsub.
PLOT / MEMES: memes, if only because i’m more of a wing it sort of roleplayer, meaning i would prefer sending in a meme and continuing the answer to that meme into a thread most of the time. honestly, it’s rare i would even come up with ideas on the fly, especially when it comes to muses from series i’ve never bothered getting into and besides, after recent events, i’m now hesitant to bring up rp stuff out of the blue all willy nilly, but if i jive with someone ooc *coughs* rae *coughs*, i can plot up a storm with them.

hello! may i ask some tips about the instragram acccunts the GoM + kagami could have? like of sort of post, amount of followers, stuff like that THANK U and have a great day !!
THIS IS ACTUALLY HILARIOUS SINCE I BREATHE OFF OF INSTAGRAM LFMAO
[Headcanons]
Kuroko Tetsuya
HELP WHAT IF HE HAS NO PRESENCE ON SOCIAL MEDIA TOO—
professional lurker
never comments on anything unless it’s to congratulate under a friend’s post or something like that
probably started using it because Ogiwara moved from letters and texts to just... instagram (technology advancements, jazz hands)
his account is on private, and he only lets people he knows follow him
all of his posts are pictures to commemorate something or just really wholesome group pictures
DEFINITELY has that picture of the GoMs at his birthday OVA
DEFINITELY also posted the big birthday picture taken at the end of the party
and also had typed very sappy BIG paragraph captions for both of these posts, talking about the journey and him being grateful… y’know, him being him
HIS ENTIRE COMMENT SECTIONS ARE JUST EVERYONE SOBBING AND KEYBOARD SPAMMING??? ONLY LIKE MIDORIMA AND AKASHI POST COHERENT RESPONSES UNDERNEATH
@kiseryouta: kuROKOCCHIIIII!!NEJWIEISK
@momoiowo: TETSUU (ʃƪ˘・ᴗ・˘) YOURE SO SWEET REEEE
@a_daikiii: i stg quit being so corny no one died yet🙄 and @momoiowo relax smh
@shin_chan77: I suppose I can express some form of gratitude for being in my life despite you being a blood type A. (insert a giant paragraph after this)
@4k4shi: This was very touching to read, Kuroko. I’m very glad that our… (insert him going down memory lane)
Murasakibara has no comment LMAO
his entire Seirin team are his hype men under his posts
his profile picture is literally the gray default blank head because he didn’t even set up a profile picture for himself
he has like 20 followers max or something?
8 posts? like, he only posts on special occasions or big events
his occasional stories are always comprised of Nigou and blurry Kagami pictures/videos running away from Nigou UH OH (courtesy of @dust-of-fandoms)
@tetsuya11 for his user handle
@dust-of-fandoms JUST MADE AN INSTAGRAM FOR HIM HERE!!
Kise Ryota
uses his instagram account as a portfolio for his modeling career
majority of his posts are actually pictures he managed to snag from his frequent model shoots
it looks SO professional… but then you look at his IGTVs and his reel videos
his reels are either short clips of mini vlog series he does whenever he visits the GoMs or when he’s recording his Kaijō teammates doing tricks and dunks
his IGTVs are either skincare tutorials, fashion advice… or just… unexplainable, out-of-context shitposts of Kise running away from what fans assumed “a green-haired man” or some “captain”
follower account?? 124k
who wouldn’t resist a hot model?
DEFINITELY HAS A TIKTOK I CAN FEEL IT
@kiseryouta with an official verification next to it
people either love him or hate him
posts a casual selfie from time to time, and people praise him for “being real” LMAODOA AND HE’S JUST STARING AT HIS PHONE LIKE “??? IMIG BUT I JUST FELT CUTE TODAY”
his captions feel fake LMAO like: “Wow! today’s so pretty today!” as he puts a selfie post OR “What’s your favorite game?✨” under a professionally-shot model picture that does not correlate with the caption???
has posted shitposts on his stories and his fans are utterly confused… only the GoMs get it LMAO
Midorima Shintarou
ONLY reason why he has social media is because Takao convinced him that he could let everyone know the daily lucky items for each signs for every post he makes
so for the first 2 months of having instagram he just casually posts a “daily horoscope” report(?) for the day
his content attracted in all the astrology fans and people who are devoted to tarots
and he’s CONFUSED.
… Takao may or may not have played a hand in messing with the algorithms to expose his account to bigger audiences
once Midorima finds out he’s MAD LMAO *insert Takao pain noises*
either goes down two paths: just casually continuing to post the daily Oha Asa predictions without interacting with anyone OR deleting his account and making a new PRIVATE one just for communication/lurking purposes
so he can honestly have 10k followers if he chooses to be a horoscope account or like 3 followers on his private, take it or leave it
maybe he has two accounts if he feels that having instagram has its merits
definitely has a shit ton of random stuff/posts in his saved collections
boomer energy, like… what’s a “reels” feature?? people talk to their phone camera and record that?? he’s squinting really hard and scratching his head
either has 356 horoscope posts on his “main” or like 19 posts on his private
has a rubber duck as a profile picture for BOTH ACCOUNTS HELP HIM
@oha_asa_ for his horoscope account or @shin_chan77 as his personal because he doesn’t know how to change his username (thanks, Takao LMAO)
Aomine Daiki
he doesn’t give a shit about instagram LOL
it’s MOMOI who handles his account because he doesn’t wanna bother with it LMAOO
she would tease him and try to “encourage” him to stop lazing around by taking pictures of him whenever he’s snoozing and posting it
but he’s so damn good-looking that his sleeping pictures got some traction with new fans
Aomine is still sleeping
his account also has pictures of him eating at Maji burger or at a café, and of course Momoi is the one snapping these photos of him
he started caring about it a little more once Momoi told him that he can post videos of himself doing trickshots and one-on-ones to potentially find worthy rivals over the internet and meet up
so now his account (videos, reels, IGTVs) are all riddled with basketball/small parkour footage shot by yours truly, Momoi
so his fanbase is split between thirsty people and people who genuinely admire him for his skills… but I mean there’s also people in both categories, anywho
he’d totally follow his favorite Japanese idols on IG if they had one
also would follow any NBA-related accounts/players he admires
has like 2.7k followers (but growing really fast) with like 176 posts of videos and random pictures of him
his profile picture is literally a picture of him sleeping by Momoi
@a_daikiii
Momoi Satsuki
LOTS OF REALLY cute, playful selfies, and a lot of them are used with cute filters from the Snow app
sometimes would post herself doing a really cute Tiktok dance while in her school uniform
she doesn’t post too much; she’s actually more into posting IG stories and making highlights out of them and then making highlight covers have a coordinating theme together
very aesthetic theme on her feed overall hehe
definitely uses her account to comment on other GoMs posts, often commenting something snarky on Aomine’s and Kise’s
actually has 1-2 IGTVs on the Vorpal Sword’s big game against the Jabberwocks
doesn’t have much of full-body shots/outfit pictures other than mirror selfies because Aomine refuses to take good pictures of her
only when she sees Kise or Kuroko is when she can ask either to be a photographer
she’s definitely gotten a few small collab offers from small businesses, but she usually ignores them because it’s not exactly her thing
her profile picture is just a selfie with a sketch-line cat ear filter
uses a bunch of emoticons on her bio, captions, comments, everything
⌒(ㅇㅅㅇ❀)⌒ or ☆⌒(>。≪) or .₊̣̇.ෆ˟̑*̑˚̑*̑˟̑ෆ.₊̣̇.ෆ˟̑*̑˚̑*̑˟̑ෆ.₊̣̇.ෆ˟̑*̑˚̑*̑˟̑ෆ.₊̣̇.ෆ˟̑*̑˚̑*̑˟̑ෆ.₊̣̇. you get the picture
967 followers… that looks way too specific, but it’s somewhere around there; a lot of them came from Aomine’s account after they saw who’s been taking his pictures, and they wanna learn more about her??
around 40 posts?
@momoiowo
Murasakibara Atsushi
Himuro showed him how to use the app, but Murasakibara doesn’t find ANY USE FOR THIS LMAOO
he’d probably only get on it to look at food on the explore page and drool about the cuisines
keeps tabs on local places/restaurants/shops on instagram; those are probably the only accounts he’d follow tbh
it’s probably like ONE post and it’s an old picture of a dango on a plate he ate like 2 years ago
I have this image in my head that he has a really cute bento art as his profile picture?? can you imagine a Rilakkuma-shaped rice as his PROFILE PICTURE?
his bio is definitely: “hungry”
and that’s it
27 followers, and it’s literally just his Yōsen teammates, the GoMs and probably some other classmates of his
his captions are literally empty or 1-2 words
@oomaib0
Akashi Seijuro
only uses instagram because it’ll be beneficial for his company and to expand social networks, plus getting those sweet business deals and engagement
he doesn’t mind seeing really wholesome videos on the explore page though
when he wants to relax, a cat video melts his stress away
laughs to himself while he reads all the shenanigans underneath the GoMs’ posts
DEFINITELY loses a few brain cells seeing trolls and idiots on the internet… especially on controversial or political ones LMAO
he at first had to REFRAIN himself and take deep breaths before he just scrolls on, but he eventually got used to them and can now easily ignore them as easy as he breathes air
he actually enjoys shitposts and meme videos?? like he may not completely understand the meme trends sometimes, but he’ll still find it amusing enough for a chuckle
he ends up being the one who uses instagram the most? like Kise posts a shit ton, yeah, but Kise doesn’t really sit down and just scroll endlessly; Kise releases out content, while Akashi consumes the content
he reasons with himself that it’s to study his current demographics for the company, and while that may be true, Akashi just enjoys social media, plain and simple LOL
he does get to study the behaviors of all the generations using the platform, young folks and old folks alike, and it does get him excited in using his analytical skills to try to figure out people BEHIND a screen rather than those in front of him
it makes a really good challenge for him when he wants a good mental exercise
he has a post or two about his horses, his manor, and a video or two on him playing his violin?? but most are business-related, them being advertisements or business contracts/offers… things like that
his highlights are all about Q&As regarding the company, his background, his skillsets, etc. like an actual resumé
actually links current world issue cards/petitions on top of his company website; he’s quite an advocate
he actually doesn’t post about basketball because that’s something very close to his heart since it reminds him of his late mother… having that mixed in with his company-related posts feels wrong to him
27k followers, most of them are business-related accounts AND some are some followers his father bought for him without Akashi’s input to inflate engagement, etc.
@4k4shi… oh he thinks he’s SO CLEVER FOR MAKING THIS USERNAME LOL with the 4 being his jersey number and the 4s looking like As… AKASHI PLEASE—
his profile pic is like a professionally taken picture, nothing less for our king
his grammar and syntax are impeccable on social media; after all, he’s still being judged for how he carries himself even on the media
Kagami Taiga
mukbang guy… DEFINITELY
hot guy eating nine plates of steaks
IGTVs are filled with mukbang videos because Kuroko said he could make a living off of his appetite
HE COULD MAKE MONEY OFF OF JUST EATING? SIGN HIM UP.
on his posts, he posts dishes he makes for the day/is proud of and talks about the dish and ingredients briefly in the caption
that, or he has pictures of his new basketball shoes LMAO
or all of his basketball merch
HE’S DEFINITELY POSTED PICTURES OF LANDMARKS AND OTHER ICONIC PLACES HE’S TRAVELED TO (*cough* in America)
has a generic Jordan brand logo against a dark background as a profile picture
doesn’t have his face anywhere unless it’s in a mukbang video
279 followers or something
why do I have a feeling that he’ll accidentally blow up when Alex takes his phone to do a quick selfie on it?—

KNOWING YOUR PARTNER WELL CAN POTENTIALLY MAKE WRITING TOGETHER A LOT EASIER. ( REPOST DO NOT REBLOG ! )
Casually yoinks this from Aid
✿ NAME: Kindynos, feel free to call me Kin
✿ PRONOUNS: He/him
✿ PREFERENCE OF COMMUNICATION: Discord, I don’t mind IMs but I don’t have Tumblr open all day like I used to, post replies also make me wag my mental tail.
✿ NAME OF MUSE(S): Masador, my other muses are on my multimuse and I have weird feelings about that place atm
✿ EXPERIENCE/HOW LONG (MONTHS / YEARS?): I have around 15 years of experience, but like most people, I was a cringy asterisks writer at start, idm inexperienced ppl as long as they are willing to learn and have fun.
✿ PLATFORMS YOU’VE USED: Msn way in the past, deviantART and tumblr, usually IM RPing is not my prefference.
✿ BEST EXPERIENCE: I remember back on deviantart i had A LOT of really cool RPs that were big on development, whole stories with charas dying and all and had a couple RPs where I cried because they were very touching. I believe the times I had the most fun RPing were on deviantART and the start of my times on tumblr, at the OFF fandom, near the end of the OFF fandom is when things started to go.. downhill i believe.
✿ RP PET PEEVES/DEALBREAKERS: kinda like aid said, ppl that have rly tiny themes and fonts, do you really want me to read what you are typing or are you in for the aesthetics only? My other huge pet peeve is people that hoard threads, like every single starter call, make a shitton of startercalls, never reply to anything and then cry because they are overwhelmed, I understand wanting to RP, but have self restraint.
✿ FLUFF, ANGST OR SMUT: i like angst but at the same time I’m more in for development RPs, deep conversations about morals, views, opening up and trust, doesn’t have to be angst necessarily, it could be two ppl having lunch and just talking about life, I know they aren’t people’s cup of tea anymore , but i life for RPs where characters get to know each other, nowadays all I’ve done is tell ppl stuff like “what if X character told your character this sad thing” because people just don’t wanna do it i guesss
✿ PLOTS OR MEMES: It really depends, I like plotting but people never go through with them anymore, pessimistic I know but it’s been like that for a couple of years now. Memes are fun for quick one offs that people can reply to fast and sometiems they escalate sometimes not.
✿ LONG OR SHORT REPLIES: I like to do long responses, I love being able to rescribe stuff and pour my heart into writing, some of my characters aren’t shown well on short responses, they think, observe a lot and use a lot of nonverbal cues which are hard to put in a single paragraph.
✿ BEST TIME TO WRITE: at night usually, but during day I can as well, and I don’t mind it either, I’m always up to writing and if people approach me wanting to RP I’ll be open .
✿ ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE(S): Some of them, Masador in particular? Not really, while he has some things i can relate to, for the most part we are very different, I like to write characters that are unlike me as it allows me for more creative expression.

I have a PR question. How do we know if a non-paparazzi photo is staged/arranged or not? I’m talking about random pictures someone takes of him and his supposed dates. ☺️
I don’t think you can know for sure, Nonny. That’s kind of the beauty of it 😊
If you’re interested in joining today’s class and read a little more about stuff, click below.
Disclaimer 1) I really shouldn’t be any kind of authority in terms of pr and of famous people pr but since many people here are presenting things as true statements without knowing anything about anything, it’s only fair that I tried to explain some stuff while knowing, like 5% of stuff.
Disclamer 2) I’m not really interested about talking specifically about Timmy’s situation. His dating life is either a private thing that shouldn’t be commented as a public topic or a pr thing that I don’t want to encourage it by commenting. Or both and see all of the above.
What I’m interested in, is talking about pr strategy and public images in general ways, why it’s there and how it works and that’s about it.
That being said, let’s start today’s class.
My belief when it comes to pr and related stuff is that knowing the ‘truth’ is less important than having as much knowledge as possible on the subject. It’s kind like math. If you have an equation and someone gives you the answer but you don’t know how to get to there yourself, knowing the answer doesn’t get you much. But if you have all the keys to resolve the equation, you can try to find the answer on your own. And, even if you don’t find the answer, knowledge will help you understand the logic of it. Why it’s there. What it says.
So what’s our equation today? A content of one (or more) public person/people taken from a smartphone camera of someone we don’t know.
Smartphone content isn’t inconsequential. Using ‘low’ quality camera instead of a professional one says something different. It’s supposed to bring more authenticity, closeness to the audience, spontaneity. It feels truer because you could be the one taken it, since there is a large chance you own a smartphone when you probably don’t own a professional camera. It has to be genuine if you could be the one taking it, right? You would have any interest in taking part of something fake, wouldn’t you?
It can feels logical like everybody knows that or it’s not really important but it’s something that is actually thought through by professionals when it comes to create content. There is that brand of cooking videos (you know the one you stumble on when you remember Facebook exist and that show you recipe that always look really easy to make at home and delicious (and also overly greasy and/or overly sugary) that was explaining how they could totally shot their videos in professional kitchen with high quality stuff but choose to do the complete opposite instead? Because their goal is to make their audience feel like they can make the recipe at home so they shot their videos on small kitchen with smartphones.
Creating professional content on un-professional devices is a real thing. Half of the business of influencers people is built on this. To think that the strategy has stayed only in the influencers people business would be very naive. In the famous people world, content created on smartphone is used for these bts vibes. We’re showing you what you’re not supposed to see so you feel like a part of it. This is how the famous people you love are in real life, when the camera is off. Except they’re not off, since you’re seeing it.
You’re not part of it, we’re showing you just enough for you to want it, to envy it but you’re not.
Let’s go back to the casual pic of that public person. Truth is, you could be taking the picture yourself and still don’t know what you’ve taken.
Say I’m well known top model who has signed a new contract with a clothing brand. I have pap walks to put the clothes in online articles and magazines. Of course pap pics also ends up on social media but they aren’t the type of media design for the platform. Pap walks create some distance from the audience because they often looks like real photo shootings. Part of the audience is defiant towards it. Either it’s an invasion of privacy or it’s staged. It’s not that positive.
What’s positive is me going out in my brand new clothes and cross path with people who recognize me. They wouldn’t know anything about my contract but would do all the job themselves without knowing they’re doing it. They would take a picture from afar, maybe a selfie, share it on social media with a cute context. A story. Write about that cute dress I was wearing, what my coffee order was (omg, she likes almond milk like me!), what’s the interaction was like. Was it staged? I like that dress and I really wanted to go for a walk and for that cup of coffee. And the fan was nice, everything was genuine. Yet, I still went out to be seen and the clothing brand is happy.
The problem with that scenario is that I’m not in control of anything. Maybe nobody will recognize me or care enough to take a picture or something went wrong with the fan/person I’ve seen and instead of a cute story I have someone insulting me all over the internet. Lot of time lost, some risk taken, not much result. Wouldn’t be easier to take a friend or a PA who would snap a few pictures and we’ll be home in 5 minutes, job done? Pr team get the pics and share them with the world with one of the twelve stan accounts about me they’ve been running for years. Even write a little story to go with it if they’re inspired enough. If you think it’s too much, you’re naive. Everything that can be faked or staged to save time, money or give you more control of the result, has already been faked and staged by someone. Multiple someones.
My take on this would be, the bigger you are, the more money you have to carry on your shoulders, the less you let things to chance and the more you take control of your narrative. PAs, agents, PR people,… When you have a whole team around you, you don’t (overly) pay them as secretaries. They’re not just here to handle your planning and bring you coffee or you would only need one person, not 7 of them walking around you all the time.
But what if there is no contract? What if I’m just wearing that dress because I like the brand? Or maybe there is a commercial deal with the brand but I have no obligation to wear it on my daily life or been seen with it. Wouldn’t the pics look exactly the same to an outside eye?
Of course I can go low key, move only inside cars with tinted windows, don’t walk around in popular places and only go in isolated, private places. I can. But maybe sometimes I’m tired of it. Maybe I just want to meet my non-famous friends where they like to go and fuck it if I’m seen there. Pics taken by people would look like they’re staged. Except maybe they’re not.
But if I stop caring, I indirectly accept that however I’m seen becomes part of my public image. And if it has become part of my public image, I should accept that it will be monitored to some extend by my team, and eventually by myself.
So how do we find the answer? We can’t. Based on a single photo alone, I don’t think we can. Unless you’ve seen contracts or you know the person personally, you can’t really pretend what’s going on being doors. Even so, would you know everything? Sometimes a contract is just a contract. Something a commercial deal is also a friendship. Sometimes a real friendship became public et become part of your public image. Sometimes you don’t really feel like talking about commercial deals with that cousin you’re seeing 5 times a year and doesn’t really care about what the details of your fucked-up public job are. So even your own family doesn’t know the truth about everything.
What we can do, if we’re interested in doing it, is look at every piece of content and ask ourselves. What are we seeing? How is it made? For what purpose? How that type of content is used in different contexts?
With more context, you can make interpretations for yourself. Will everybody will have the same? Of course not. Mathematicians, physicists, chemists, spent their time disagreeing on interpretations of stuff, how can we expect people to agree on the interpretation on something based of human behavior?
From what I’m seeing, PR conversations seem to be going on in many (many) fandoms. From a PR point of view, I don’t think it’s not a bad thing, whether what we’re talking about is real or fake in the first place. Having people think it’s fake and people think it’s real makes the conversation going. They’re always be people who would want to defend their point of view, their opinions, their favorite celebrities. Names will keep being mentioned, pics shared, word spread. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and algorithms are happy.
My best advices, I guess, is, first, remember that you aren't obligated to have opinions on everything or to care about every aspect of the life of an artist you love, even when media and people would like you to think you are and you should. There is even things, such as dating life of other people than yourself, you shouldn’t really have opinions about at all.
If romance, love and sex keeps getting used to sell, it’s because it works. Think about all the books, all the movies, all the stories where a love story is integrated in an action movie/horror story/sci-fi scenario even when it has nothing to do with anything. Romance/love/sex sells since forever and probably for a long time. Because most people think falling in love is the main purpose of life and the most important thing in the world.
My second advice would be, don’t be naive but don’t be cynical either. Contexts and nuances are always important.
Anyways, like always I don’t have an answer and I’m barely even interested in the answer but I hope I'm able bring some perspectives to things because it’s important. More than ever, content is a tool. Since everyone is part of an audience, if not potentially part of all audiences , we should all learn more about how the tool works.
Of course i'm joking about the concept of class. I'm not a teacher. I'm only sharing some personal knowledge and opinions. I can be wrong or contested. No hard feelings against anyone.

Hey guys! I’m Valencia (my pen name) and I’m new here! Of course I heard about tumbler before, but i never actually used it. So take this as my introduction of some sort. I’m a libra and I’m 18. That’s all the private info i can share with yall about my life. I’ve been writing for many years. I was always interested in arts, poems, novels, theatre and acting. So I started doing all of these at a very young age. I started to professionally learn art when i was in 3-4 grade. And before that i used to take classes in my school and practice drawing with my mother. Who was a great artist btw. I can sketch pretty well now. Then at grade 5 I attempted journaling for the first time. It was hard to keep up with the daily routine so I started doing it less and less. But i still did it sometimes till 8-9th grade. But at the peak of my journaling hobby, i got into that geeky phase of life, which I’m still in even now. So whilst exploring new fandoms and genres, I discovered something really engrossing. Fan fictions. Yes. My love towards writing started with fan fiction. Call me mid or embarrassing, i used to read and write fanfics of my then favourite characters. But when I thought that i read enough to gain the basic knowledge of writing, I started to compose my own stories. Some were desperately horny and some were..cheesy?. But still, i was getting somewhere. Then I started to read actual good compositions and novels. But whether you find it hard to believe, I thought that the “big” novel writer’s stories and writing abilities were very similar and almost same with the digital authors. And by digital i mean the writers who uses the online platform to share their thoughts. Like wattpad, tumblr, manga, fictionaut, sqaurespace etc. Just because these writers compose fan fiction or erotica, doesn’t mean they are less of an author than the “big” mainstream artists. Everyone always underestimate the fiction writers but in reality, I’ve seen far more better fictions than actual novels. And I’m not ashamed to say that my writing for love started with the fan fictions. I have my notebook full of fictions. And for someone like me who has difficulty in finding originality in everything, i was an easy way for me to enrich my skills. But in time I learned how to incorporate my originality with my ideas. Enough of me talking about my writing journey, lets get to interesting stuff.
What I’ll write about/what is accepted :
I’ll write smuts most of the time. But it’ll most probably be one shots as i find it hard to create a whole story with only the sex plot.
I’ll occasionally write a series of fan-fics. It’ll be fully story driven and it’ll take time to write
I’ll sometimes publish my own original stories if i think they’re good enough
I’m in almost every fandom you can imagine so I won’t have any problems taking requests.
I’ll occasionally write poems
I’m lgbtq+ friendly so if you have any requests related to that, feel free to ring me up
I have very specific kinks and sexual desires that I’m comfortable with. So i request everyone to be respectful towards that
And lastly, I’ll sometimes write about sensitive topics which matches my theme, so if that’s triggering to you, you can and should ignore those posts.
What I won’t write about/ what is not accepted :
One shot Fluffs. I do not know how to write fluffs and on top of that writing it in one shot makes it harder for me. Although some fluffs will be included in my writing, but only in my serieses.
I’ll not write about suicide. Sure some story will mention death and things, but personally, I won’t write a story that ends with suicide or the main lead kills herself. I’m traumatized with these stuffed so please understand.
I won’t write about incest, age play, voyeur, extremely sadistic stuff (cutting so much that the blood will make a pool, beating so much that they lose consciousness, verbally abusive to the point it’s unbearable) but sometimes this things needs to be included in the story to make a character ark. But please don’t request me to write a fic where loki fucks her unconscious and almost kills y/n. It is just an example.
Body imagery. I suffer with body dysmorphia. So pls don’t request to make a fic with a girl with “blonde hair blue eyes small waist and big breasts” like no. The whole point of “y/n” is to imagine yourself. And I don’t want anyone to change their imagery to fit into the toxic standard of a “beautiful” character.
Cheating. this isn’t that of a big deal to me. But I don’t know how to redeem a cheater in the writing form. I don’t how to write about it and pretend that it’s forgivable. I will rarely create stories with this plot which ends up okay in the end. Like yeah in a toxic relationship. Fine. But I won’t feel comfortable writing about it when the characters are aware of the cheating but still chooses to unsee it. If you know what i mean
I won’t write about problematic celebrities or celebrities I don’t like
Racism, sexism and homophobia is highly restricted here.
As a muslim, I won’t tolerate islamophobia or won’t write about triggering stuff that includes my religion. (Like the so called “oppression”, terrorism and anti-islamism)
I won’t tolerate bad behaviour, cursing with an intention to insult, harassment, bullying, spamming and illegal promotions
And lastly, pls be respectful towards me, the author. Sometimes i won’t have time in my hand to write. Or sometimes you might not like my writing. Incase that happens, pls ignore my posts instead of harassing me. Thanks!

Sorry I never post personal, non-Lasso-related stuff on this hellsite but I’ve been thinking about this friend I had growing up;
So when I was about 11/12, I started entering online fandom spaces. I don’t think my parents really understood it (and still don’t), but I was fairly upfront with them about the accounts I had, the fact that I wrote and read fanfic (even though they barely grasped the concept of fanfic), and that most of these sites had a direct messaging feature.
I was on Wattpad for a while, and there was this one person who said she was about a year or so older and lived in the UK. We messaged back and forth on Wattpad about our shared interests, before we moved to exchanging numbers so we could talk more regularly/properly. Shortly after I gave her my number, we facetimed each other (mostly to verify that neither of us were lying about who we were) and then after that we would talk almost every day after school and regularly video call when it suited our respective time-zones and schedules.
Anyway, this continued very amicably from when I was about 12 until the day of my 15th birthday. We had discussed our birthdays before as just a general point of conversation, and she must have noted down the date and sent me a video of her and her family all singing me happy birthday, which was very sweet and I loved it. Anyway, I was so happy that I showed my parents and I was like “look! My friend from the UK just sent me this video!! Isn’t that wonderful?” And my parents absolutely cracked it with me. I was so confused?? Because I had literally never lied about any of my online activities or tried to hide anything, and they always were like “yeah that’s fine whatever”
They started lecturing me about stranger danger, and how I can never speak to people online over the phone because you can never know who they really are. I was absolutely crushed, honestly, because we had formed a really lovely friendship over the internet, and this was a time in my life when I was really struggling to make friends at school and in real life. I was really lonely, and one way I had found to combat that loneliness was escapism through my fandom spaces and finding other people online who liked the same things I like.
That was the very last time I ever spoke to her because my parents made me delete all of her contact information and block her on everything, and then spent the rest of the night telling me how reckless it is to make friends online. To this day, I still miss her so much.
As I got older, the more and more I got frustrated with this mentality. I understand that horrible things do happen to children online all the time, and it’s not uncommon for children (particularly lonely teenaged girls with low self-esteem and virtually no support system in real life) to be the targets for online grooming and abuse, but it just frustrates me how out-of-touch our parents are about these things. They didn’t grow up with technology. They didn’t grow up learning how to use it. They didn’t grow up with every other kid their age using it. They don’t understand how kids (like me) sought social refuge in online fandom spaces. They don’t understand that most people in those spaces are genuinely like-minded individuals who want to share that space in the same way. They just watch all those “EvEry ParEnT sHoULd wAtCh tHiS!1!!” news reports on television about every 1-in-100 cases on a child entering a space like that on the internet and being the target for abuse. It doesn’t happen nearly as often as people warn it does, and I feel that media outlets are so quick to weaponise boomers’ paranoia and absolute fear of “stranger danger” that they don’t even bother to teach them ACTUAL safety tips for them to pass on to their children that could keep them safe online.
You can’t just teach your kids to NEVER talk to people online. You can’t just teach your kids to NEVER use the internet and social media platforms for exactly what they were designed for. And if you do, you’re part of the problem and we’re only going to raise another generation of kids who don’t know enough about cyber-safety to use technology and social media every day.
#ray rants and junk#I’m sorry this is personal but like it had to be said#I’m so sick of hearing parents bitch about things so beyond their comprehension#and the WORST part is that like#they don’t even WANT to understand it#they’re just like#well I’m the parent and I know more about everything than you do and when I was your age blah blah blah#they will never understand what it was like for us growing up on the internet#(also I was born in 2003 and both my parents were born in the late 60s for reference)

If you have a Tumblr and you're on it a lot like I am, I really highly suggest joining the same fandom on reddit. I have 10 reasons.
1. They're 2 sides of the same horrific political echo chamber. While Tumblr and twitter are screaming and crying about the producer possibly using a homophobic slur in 1956, reddit is screaming and crying because a minor side character is bi and they simply cannot relate anymore :(. Both platforms firmly believe that ALL movies, tv, books, magazines, comics, blogs, posts, tweets, and news providers should be sanitized until they churn out pure propaganda; they just disagree on what the propaganda should promote. (They also both pretend it's only propaganda if they don't agree with it.)
2. You might forget cishet people exist. To remind yourself, so that it's not jarring when you rejoin the real world, you can find all the cishet people in America on reddit. They have straight ships. They do not see the subtext. They think you're nuts for saying Sherlock Holmes and John Watson are together. I promise you that you need this slap in the face occasionally.
3. Reddit lets you show tiddie.
4. Tumblr praises and criticizes media based on how progressive it is. Reddit praises and criticizes media for like, everything else under the sun. If one platform HATES your favorite show, the other one probably loves it.
5. With really divisive tv shows like always sunny, you'll get to see 2 totally different plot breakdowns. It's like watching the show twice. Once "Tumblr style", with lots of ships, subtext, longing, pining, fanfiction, fan art, and slowed-down 3 second gifs that make every scene look romantic and sexy. Tumblr style fandom is intense, emotional, and deeply connected to the underdog characters. Then you can watch it again "reddit style", with pages of analysis on writing styles, acting styles, line delivery, and the items in the background, but no mention of The Way Those Two Looked At Each Other™.
6. When your normie work friends ask you what you thought of something, you can give them the normie answer. (Hint: there are 0 normie opinions on Tumblr. They're all bonkers in funking yonkers, I promise. If they seem normal to you please talk to a well-adjusted adult who supports themselves in the real world)
7. It is SO FUN to dump all of tumblr's hcs on your "reddit friends". I dare you to find a friend who uses reddit and then tell them about the absurd amount of gay porn for star trek. Tell them there's gay subtext in every episode of Merlin. Show them jack and ianto making out shirtless in the lab if they're a doctor who reddit friend. Remind them that Dennis had a m/m/m threesome in the pilot episode. Point out the 45x johnlock's close friends assumed they were together. Rant about whatever tf happened in supernatural with the gay angel. Every time one of my reddit friends (republicans if I'm not being clear enough here) recommends a show to me I immediately tell them how gay and GNC his faves are. This is a very fun game that will alienate everyone that you really don't want as a friend anyway.
8. Reddit also has a horrible UI and the messiest code I've ever seen, a poorly-functioning mobile app that crashes constantly, and community guidelines that are fuzzy at best. Anyone from Tumblr should be perfectly comfy there.
9. Entire fandoms dry up on Tumblr after someone involved does something unprogressive. You'll find the remaining fans on reddit because reddit doesn't give a fuck about progressivism.
10. And lastly... Because a LOT of bloggers on this hellsite need to learn that the culture here isn't the culture of the world. It's NOT pedophilic to like a post written by someone younger than you, and it's NOT sketchy not to have all your personal information in your bio. No one cares about your carrd/pinned/DNI, no one is going to read a terms and conditions document to find out if they're allowed to follow you. The rest of the world doesn't hold insane beliefs like "all harry potter fans are fascists". No one is going to tw food, alcohol, swearing, smoking, or thin bodies. And before you go "I know it's not like this irl but -", You're wrong, you DO think the real world is like this and I see it all the time. I see y'all out here being Karens about the nonsensical expectations that you developed here. I see you harassing actors for stuff their characters did! Do not do that! The cure for Tumblr psychosis is to get OUT of the feedback loop and read another opinion once in awhile.

What are your thoughts on fanfic writing in the f1 fandom? I am pretty sure I saw you tweet about it at some point something small but I was too scared to interact with you on it over at twitter :D

So, this is a hotter topic than I’d really like it to be on my Tumblr and it’s my own fault but. Here we go.
RPF has some questionable ethics and some even more questionable origins. I’m ancient enough that it just used to get straight-up published as a ‘5 minute fantasy’ in young women and girls’ magazines where you’d get like, some 15 year old’s daydream about meeting a boyband member on holiday and falling in love and this was for some reason just treated as an absolutely normal bit of publishing not like ‘what the hell, that would be illegal’ and ‘why is this the fantasy we are encouraging girls to have as an ambition when it comes to sports or even pop success’ and y’know.
Anyway, the 90s: really can’t emphasise enough how fucking weird having only a few sources to get your media from makes them.
Back to RPF; its roots are in political obscenity, if you want to talk about the bawdy stuff. The French Revolution, in particularly, wrote lots of erotica (the kinkier the better) about the royal family as part of refusing to acknowledge their divine rights under the church. It was an anarchical refusal to accept the situation as it was and to undermine it.
Beyond that you’ve got historical fiction - Thucydides was all about working up a really good narrative take* on the Peloponnesian war back in the fifth century BC. Extra scenes, big dialogue, you know. If he’d known about self-lubricating buttholes then you BET Herodotus would have put them in the Histories.
Point is: writing fiction about real people isn’t really that weird, Shakespeare did a load of it. But we tend to problematise RPF and consider it strange, even amongst fanfiction.
Now, to 21st century sports and specifically F1. We speak here on Tumblr dot com, the audience where F1 fans skew most largely LGBT, non-cis and female or non binary rather than every other platform which is full of cis het men. Here is where we talk about fanfic. Because they don’t know we’re here, I assume, is the logic.
(they kinda don’t, to be fair)
Most of us do not see ourselves in sports. Most sports media is not aimed at the way that a lot of us were socialised to engage with stuff and most of us - lucky buggers like me aside - do not get to write the narratives of the way sport is engaged with or talked about or who does it.
A lot of us who live here on god’s abandoned internet have drifted in and out of fandoms and a lot of that will have involved engaging with fanfiction. Fanfiction is a really fun sandbox to play in, as an adult - we get told to stop playing, as we grow up and it’s no surprise that we still want to.
There’s a six monthly cycle of some AAA game that asks the question “is shooting people bad?” that prompts 10 broadsheet newspaper pieces on Videogames: Not Just For Kids Anymore (and sub in comics/superheroes/etc for games there) that makes everyone who knows that roll their eyes. Games and comics and superheroes are big, legitimised industries now that turnover hundreds of billions of dollars.
Fanfiction is an outlier, as the purest form of play in a lot of senses. Unfettered, it’s the democratic media platform; there’s no minimum standard for publishing, there’s no real limits beyond your own ethics on what you can publish. it doesn’t turn a profit, by its very definition and it allows lots of games and versions of itself within that.
For something with a ludicrously broad definition that encapsulates hugely different types of works, it has defined forms; from drabbles to wingfic, as structural formats, we also recognise fluff or hurt/comfort as genre. Fanfiction isn’t really the thing itself, it’s the bookshop and what you find in it will vary on where you look and often, the advice of the bookseller or friends you speak to.
If you’ve enjoyed wandering that bookstore and adding to its shelves as part of the way you engage with media and then you come to a sports fandom? Well, you’re gonna look for the fic. If you don’t see yourself in the sport, as a woman or a queer person then you can write yourself in. It’s sad that we sideline the fantasies where we exist - given they’re entirely normal to have - into places where we jealously guard them away from the reality we daren’t intrude on but that is how it is.
And fuck: if your whole reason for liking F1 is cus you wanna marry a driver and you’re writing those 15 minute fantasies about them like you’re 15 and they’re a poster then it’s not doing any harm - it’s a lot healthier than stalking them. You might even work out what you really want or more things about yourself, in the process.
(if it’s ‘to marry an F1 driver’ then I suggest you take some boring swimwear snaps somewhere that looks expensive, stick ‘em on Insta and wait for the DM slide)
One of the things I like best in fanfic is the possibility of a queer narrative without complications, of telling queer stories without having to justify them as Issues, of letting us see ourselves and our own awakenings because fuck, you know the big book shop (if such things still exist) has one shelf of expensive, niche published novels you find difficult to related to and three sex ed books.
F1 fanfic was one of the ways I wandered back to the F1 fandom and one of the reasons I work in the industry now. It was enough of an in to make me want to really think, to have that new crush energy of obsession and enjoyment, about motorsport in a way I’d drifted away from as I felt sidelined from the sport through my early-to-mid 20s. I found brocedes much more compelling, as an interpretation and a way of processing the intense rivalry between Lewis and Nico - even knowing it was fictional conjecture - than I did the equally fictional conjecture about their psychological states and potential weaknesses published in the sports papers.
So, yes, I have read some excellent Formula 1 RPF. I have written some frankly mediocre and in retrospect very poorly edited F1 RPF that I posted to Twitter in a drunken moment of excitement because I was happy I’d finished it and forgot, idk. I have a tricky relationship to being a Notable Person I guess, I hadn’t intended any harm and was mostly worried I’d get flack from the industry. Lol. Anyway, only saying it cus like; this isn’t just me talking about things theoretically.
There’s a lot of F1 RPF that is more insightful than a lot of columns about ‘inside the drivers’ minds’ working off very little more than the RPF is.
Some of it, I won’t lie, I find really fucking weird but I guess like, that ain’t for me. There are a lot of problems with RPF - it’s too male, too frequently misogynist, too keen to reinforce homophobic ideas, too often white and blonde, not radical enough but those issues are for the advanced class rather than the 101 overview I was aiming for here and go well beyond F1 or RPF.
Shit I should be writing the weather report. Fuck. I’m the worst. Err, there you go, that’s a whole thing.
(I don’t read very much - I am busy af - but occasionally and especially on long haul flights when the idea of anything other than soothing is impossible)
*Actually tbh Thucydides couldn’t write for fuck but it was early and you know how when a tag’s young you’ll read a lot of mediocre stuff?

FANFIC WRITERS TAG GAME
***
Thank you @hvae for tagging me this was fun // I don't have many that I'm close enough to tag. @youshineshine @suzy-rainbow @eeunoia
***
01. what fandoms have you written for (but do not currently)?
I used to write for Kimetsu no Yaiba (I might when that anime starts back up again🤧) and also like once I tried to for Noragami
02. what fandoms are you currently writing for?
I write for The Boyz and ENHYPEN
03. how long have you been writing?
I started writing about 6 or 7 years ago if I count the time I tried writing for Noragami. I officially started writing and posting works in 2019
04. on which platforms do you post your stories?
K-pop on Tumblr only. Anime/manga on AO3.
If you like kny and inotan then check out my AO3 cause that was like all I wrote
05. what is your favorite genre to write?
Romantic fluff. Also family fluff. So not just biological family, I love found family with friends. You can really see that in my kny works
06. are you a pantser or a planner?
I think both. I come up with stories by a single scenario in my head and then it kinda either goes from there and I make stuff up as I type or I build it out and set a timeline before writing (this is usually only the case if it's gonna be more than one chapter)
07. one-shot or multiple-chapter?
One-shots… finding the motivation to write multiple chapters works is so ugh. The reason why I stopped writing what I was for Noragami. If it's a one-shot I don't have to be worried about minor details and a timeline. When a chapter is done it's just done and I don't have to worry about it anymore!
08. what is the perfect chapter length in your opinion?
For me personally, I have to write works with at least 1k words, or else I feel like it's too short. Tho if it's in line with a smau I don't feel that pressed to make it long or anything. I'm not sure if I have a perfect chapter length yet since I'm still in the middle of writing my first multi-chapter fanfic, everything published before was just one-shots that were varying in length.
09. what is your longest published story?
Currently, that would be, I Miss You. My inotan fic on AO3, but only by a little, soon, No Doubt In Us will take over when I post chapter 6 (which that chapter is so far the longest fanfic chapter I've ever written, it isn't even that long tho).
10. what story did you enjoy working on the most?
I think either, I Miss You or A Second Family(another intan fic). I just absolutely love family, especially found family. Finding comfort and love with those you aren't related to is something I yearn for. That's how I am implying Chanhee and Y/N's relationship is in, No Doubt in Us without actually writing their whole story out. They aren't a thing and never will be but they are more than just regular friends. They both are part of good families that they love, but the two of them are so involved with each other's life that they can't imagine not having the other around. They are very important to their own characters and how they turned out, they are siblings at this point.
11. favorite request you’ve written and why?
I only ever got one request, it was also the first thing I wrote for my blog, and boy was it hard. Read it here
12. are there reoccurring themes in your stories?
Any kind of themes that involve love, not in just the romantic form but all types of love. That's what's so fun about love there are a lot of different kinds! So themes kinda vary but it's always about some type of love.
13. current number of wips?
If you count ideas as wipes then 4-5 if not then 0
14. three things you’ve noticed about your writing?
I'm not very good at writing dialogue and don't write it as much as I write actions and feelings, I think. I don't talk with others much so I have trouble figuring out how normal conversations go with certain characters.
I also write more than I realize/plan to. Like I think, "this idea isn't even going to be 1000 words!" And then it's multiple thousands. This doesn't apply to just fanfic it always happens for school papers too.
15. a quote you like from a published story?
“[...] placing a chaste kiss on his lips. I could feel his lips form a smile against mine which made me smile too. I pulled away laughing, the happiness I’m feeling right now seems unreal, but looking at his smile, the reddish color that dusted his cheeks and ears told me just how real it was."-- Not as a Friend. I just love fluff, what can I say! Also decided to pick from my K-pop works since that's what I'm known for here.
16. a quote from an unpublished story?
Cw/Tw: blood, implied domestic abuse
"He sneers at her and spits in their direction and walks out of the room. One, two, three, four, seconds pass when the sound of the front door slamming closed. Relief floods her body, she feels so weak but she slowly lifts her body with one hand and brings herself to her knees, placing inosuke on the bed. She brings the hem of her shirt to her nose, sooking up the blood still dripping down her face, waiting for it to stop bleeding. "My love, I'm sorry...I'm so sorry you were born into this kind of family.""-- another kny story, but it's about Inosuke's mom. I don't think I'll ever finish this. As much as I want to, idk it's so fucking angsty I literally can't handle it.
17. space for you to say something to your readers
I used to be very pressed about the numbers (on my twt acc) but then I said fuck it. I've learned to appreciate what I have at the moment and not focus on what I wish I had. So all of you that do read my stuff, thank you! You're likes and rbs mean a lot to me.
