I have been thinking about Colin’s eyes.

How Pen called it a “remarkable shade of blue”

And how it shines even brighter when it is kind.

Colin’s eyes are the colour of the deep part of the ocean. The deep sea absorbs all the light because there is hardly any sediment that the light can reflect on.

Colin’s eyes reflect the depths of his soul. And how the above definition of the deep ocean absorbing the light can be used to define Colin’s character.

Kindness is at the core of Colin’s soul so much so that he developed a saviour complex. He absorbs everyone’s burden and takes care of it before his own.

He couldn’t find the light he often absorbs and hides inside himself that he traveled around the world, sailing on oceans, to find light within him.

Only to find it staring back at him, back home, like two blue pools, bright and shining, always surrounded by light.

A light that was ignited by his kindness.

Colin’s dark blue ocean eyes are the first laughing eyes Pen has ever met. Can you imagine if Pen never met Colin and the Bridgertons, she would have been as shallow and vain as her sisters? Or vindictive and jealous as her mother (maybe she was with LW?)

But can you also imagine how long she’s been wanting to compliment Colin’s eyes? His soul? His kindness?

She never just saw the blue of his eyes. She’s always looked into his soul. And never once found it lacking.

So, when Colin gives the compliment back as he says, “You make me see the world in ways I’ve never seen before.” It’s him finally understanding that it’s the light of her soul he’s been trying to find all this time. And that he never lost it at all. He just needed someone to reflect it back to him.

Such as her and her sky blue eyes, complimenting his deep blue ocean ones.
