I had an interesting conversation earlier with a friend about the movie, because they didn't understand why I was so intrigued by velvets character "when she's obviously just a villain"

Because that isn't how these movies work and both of the green noodles are stressed out TEENAGERS.

And I love Veneer, he's a sweet heart, but he was also part in using Floyd's essence to make his job easier.

There is obivous issues from home coming in to play with the twins (?wasn't clear) plans to further their career.

And based on their suits..... I wouldn't be surprised if what they where doing was COMMON among musicians of their people.

Because trolls aren't considered a major anything in their universe, listening to their arrest charges, it made it sound like they got arrest for PET abuse and substance violations

Oh no yeah I was thinking abt that a lot, literally in the middle of writing a post about them for the au as we speak lol. I am CONSTANTLY thinking about how the bergens treated trolls as nothing but little animals for god knows how long, EATING THEM every year, keeping them trapped there...and those guys made peace with the trolls. The trolls LOVE the bergens now! And it hasn't even been that long! But Velvet and Veener have the hammer dropped on them SO hard for doing something very similar to one troll. Sure, they were frauds, and sure, they hurt Floyd and what they did WAS incredibly wrong...but the same time they're teenagers. Like. 16 at the oldest. And their parents are NOWHERE to be seen in current day. If they're alive, they clearly don't give a shit about their kids. It wasn't even jail they got sent to, it was prison, which is much harsher in comparison. Veneer is a sweet guy, a very soft-hearted kid who is a very good character as well. But like you said, he participated. SOMETHING had to be up with their upbringing. Veneer hardly spoke and looked panicked when Velvet flipped the table...and Velvet, who was probably what, 10? 9 maybe considering how small they looked? She flipped an ENTIRE TABLE with THINGS ON IT by herself. There had to be so many events leading up to that even at such a young age to cause her to have that massive of a reaction to a question as simple as "how was school today?" Like no way they had good parents when Veneer is obviously afraid of speaking out and Velvet has a whole airport full of emotional baggage that turned her into the person she is now. And they're not even 18 yet! What the fuck! Someone help these poor kids!

Hola, today I'm gonna curse your dashboards with some good old Mirsan and the reasons why I ship them the way I do since I've only ever really talked about Inukag. So if any y'all read my one post about Miroku's character then y'all know that our beloved monk has basically had a hellish life. From any early age he'd been counting down the days till his curse finally killed him just as it did to his grandfather and father.

Due to this Miroku would often flirt with random girls or con rich people out of their things and money because he was literally a man on death row. It's quite clear that in some aspect Miroku had in a way accepted that he was going to die whether he wanted to or not, and his only mission was to at least take Naraku with him. Miroku was a man who basically just did his own thing because he had no other reason to do anything else, even when he'd first started hunting for Naraku with Kagome, Inuyasha and Shippo, Miroku's main concern was to try and continue his bloodline because he believed that he was going to die no matter what he did.

That is until Sango showed up.

Now imagine this, you're Miroku and your whole life has been ruled by death and the shadow of your worst enemy. You grow up thinking you're going to die and you've come to accept this fact. You keep your new companions somewhat distant from you and keep being flirty and good natured and giving them advice because there's just really no point in trying to establish relationships when you're dying. Then you come across a woman who just like you had been through hell, she lost everything in a blink of an eye and was willing to die once she'd gotten her revenge. You see this woman and you want to help her because unlike you she has a chance to actually recover from Naraku's treachery. So you offer her a silent invitation to seek support from you and she takes it. However instead of her using you as a crutch for a one time thing she instead does the same thing for you.

That's basically Miroku and Sango's relationship. In the beginning Miroku had offered Sango silent support through his kindness and willingness to help her and listen to her when she needed someone to talk to. He did this and in response had unknowingly given Sango something that she had desperately needed when she'd been faced with the tragedy of her family and village.

Miroku gave Sango a reason to keep fighting.

He gave her a reason to push through and to keep going on with her life and gave her the reassurance that she wasn't alone anymore because he too faced hell. Miroku gave Sango hope and in response to this she decided to do the same thing for him. I'm guessing that on some level Sango knew that Miroku had somewhat given up on trying to cure his curse. She saw someone who despite the flirtations and good natured smiles and wisdom was actually somewhat kind hearted and saw himself as extendable which we see plenty of times in the manga and anime where he'd use his wind tunnel with little to no care at all despite being warned several times to be careful. Sango saw something that no one else saw and she'd latched onto Miroku so she could give him the same support he'd given her.

Of course in the beginning Miroku kept a somewhat distant relationship with Sango because he didn't want to get her mixed up with the wind tunnel. So he'd always insist that he could handle missions himself and that he was fine but Sango was a determined and passionate person who refused to leave him. Like a dog with a bone Sango held on and slowly but surely started to get closer to Miroku despite his best efforts. They talked to one another more than they did with the others and fought side by side hundreds of times saving each other's lives time and time again. It was because of Sango's love and devotion and passion to stay by Miroku and to hold on to him and give him support that made Miroku finally fall in love.

But that wasn't all that Sango had given to him. Oh no.

Sango gave Miroku hope.

She gave him hope to have an actual future without the wind tunnel. For the first time in his life he was given a reason to actually feel hopeful about his future. Because Sango gave him that reason. By staying by his side and helping him and their friends find Naraku and actually get a fighting chance to defeat him, she'd also given him hope.

The reason I love them as much as I do is because Miroku and Sango had given each other hope and a reason to keep fighting. They became each other's reason to live and became each other's support. They complete each other and it's beautiful.

I think the most beautiful thing about writing of Howl and Sophie's pair is that they are written as people before being written as a pair. Let me explain this very quick.

The thing about book Sophie and Howl is that they are not really fully fitting into any "classic" romantic trope. They are not exactly enemies to lovers, as their angry chats are definitely cannot be considered a life or death battle, they are not rivals to lovers because the only aspect of rivalry between them is the cleaningness of Howl's room. They are not friends to lovers, as their relationship just doesn't fit into "friendship" structure at the very start, nor they are roomates (yes, they live in the same house but that's not the core aspect of their relationships). Of course, you can go on and fit the name of the trope you found specifically for them, but that's the thing.

They simply cannot be processed through a pairings lenses only, in order to understand how they act in relationship you need to analyse them separately, as a characters first of all. Cause that's what the book itself does!

Sure, it doesn't have a whole lot of romance instead, but it gives us time to learn and observe the life of incredibly written, alive characters, understand them as personalities first of all, while slowly immersing the dynamic between two characters (in this case, Howl and Sophie) into work. They are written as personalities, both being fully separated and interviewing, changing eachother's point of view.

It's difficult to find a trope for them. They're are not a trope. They are Howl and Sophie, and that's probably the only way their dynamic can be properly described. Just as real people, they are not really fitting into the boxes of linial character progression, but go way deeper into being complex, filled with little differences and moments only people with their personality can have in romantic (or any different) kind of interaction. They're imperfect, and silly, and multidimensional and the reader knows them well enough to imagine them interacting way beyond of what the book says to them.

They are being people before being a ship, a pair of a trope — and that's why they work so perfectly charming in the end.

Howl and Sophie are unique in being themselves.
