Summary: Matthew had a plan for how to tell his family about his boyfriend. This wasn’t it.

AN: My friends deserve treats so I wrote this in like 2 hours even though I've been blocked on like every WIP. Have some mindless fluff with lots of banter.

“Get up, you lazy idiot.” 

The door flies open before Matthew can do anything. He can’t move anyway, but if Brady had given him more than half a second of warning, he could have said something at least. 

This is not how Brady was supposed to find out. They were going to get everyone together soon and… tell them properly. Give Taryn a chance to give a shovel talk. Matthew’s parents were going to get the chance to be embarrassing. 

They still might do that, but Matthew’s brother and best friend is barely holding on to the tray of food as he gapes at the familiar man draped all over Matthew in his sleep. 

Shit, it’s a miracle Brady hasn’t screamed like a little girl.

I’ve been thinking about this particular Fuck It Friday a lot. What, if anything, I wanted to say. And honestly I’m still a little unsure and kinda flying by the seat of my pants here. Placing it under the cut, because it’s a sensitive topic that might not be your jam (and that’s okay!)

This past April I turned 38. I had been doing a lot of inner work and finally - fucking finally - felt like I had plans for the next steps in my life. Just over 2 weeks later I was given some News™️. Needless to say all of my well laid plans took a backseat. To doctor appointments, surgery, a very unexpected hospitalization, fatigue and lethargy like I have never experienced before, so 👏 many 👏 fucking IVs and tests👏… seriously feels like I’m working my way through the worlds worst bingo card.

And all of it the result of something I was confident I was too young to have. Wrong again. Hippo: 0 Cancer: who TF even knows, I’ve lost count

But as miserable as it’s all been, today is nothing short of a spectacular day. I’ll have my final dose of chemo, and celebrate moving forward with the people I love most. You know who you are. I love you more than I could ever express in a hundred lifetimes. And I don’t know how I could have ever managed through this without you. Sure I could have, but it’s been infinitely easier this way 💞 Thank you for giving me a safe place to exist and for always letting me feel like a normal human.

So I’m sitting in the recliner, super comfy and settled in, and watching the yankee game. Then all of a sudden out of nowhere the memory hit me of hearing my brother walking up the front steps behind me (the chair is near the door) after 11pm to tell me about mom. Knowing what those footsteps meant. I physically felt my heart drop. I opened the door, looked in his eyes, and fell into his arms sobbing. We were in the doorway and it was freezing outside and he eventually asked if he could come in. He made a comment that “ye golden girls” was on the tv, which it was. Then we sat at the kitchen table and talked and cried. I remember it all so clearly, it’s strange. I was just totally blindsided by this memory, I felt it viscerally in my gut, like it was happening again.

Shoutout to @shortstorylonger for recently introducing me to the ball and box theory of grief. I read up on it and it made a ton of sense. Something in my head clicked with this. Much better than Kübler-Ross’ DABDA, which is factual, but not necessarily helpful. It made me see how this intense pain won’t be so constant forever, even though it feels like it will be.

I never wrote a fic where I could not decide how to end it and just wrote two endings instead. I kinda love it though

The agent and the witch (Marcus Pike x fem. witch reader)

This has been one of my longest running WiPs (the document was from 2022) and I am super happy that I finally got to finish this one this year. Also Marcus Pike and a witch just makes sense.

Happiness is elusive, so this is a good exercise for me to think about it. Hmm… 🤔

My family. We’ve always been super close, and I’m so grateful for that. Especially the last few months, we’ve all really been there for each other. I adore being an aunt, it’s my favorite hat to wear.

My furbaby Oscar. My Sweet Boy. I can’t say enough good things about this little guy. He’s such a good boy, and such a sweetheart.

Stargate sg1. The show, the fandom, everything. I’ve made great friends over the years through shared love of this show.

My friends, particularly my pocket friends. I don’t really know many people IRL, but I do have amazing pocket friends, including all of you! I’ve met some incredible people, especially here on tumblr.

Laying in bed, super comfy and cozy. It’s just such a nice, peaceful feeling.

A bonus answer, because I actually thought of a sixth thing when I didn’t think I’d be able to come up with five! Watching baseball with my dad. We watch most of the Yankees games together (yay for the YES Network) and get really into it. It’s something that brings us closer together, and I love that.

Ooh, and a seventh! A really good cup of coffee. Whether it be my regular coffee with French vanilla creamer, or my fancy Starbucks order (triple grande white mocha with 1.5 pumps of white mocha, nonfat milk, whipped cream, and caramel drizzle). All together it’s delicious, but there’s something special about savoring that first sip.

Thank you for this ask. I took time while answering it and it made me grateful for what I have that brings me joy. Most of the time I can’t see it, so it was a pleasant surprise that I could come up with so many things.
