I'm realising I've made these headcanons with Arthur, Charles, Sadie and Mary-Beth only brushing and then styling Female!Reader's hair lol, I hope it's ok anyway 😭

Arthur Morgan :

Arthur sees you minding your own business reading a book Mary-Beth gave you earlier that week. Your hair is unkempt, making you look a little disheveled. At least, this is what Ms. Grimshaw complains about. 

Let’s just say you’re just not in the mood to brush your hair. You’ve been on guard duty all night long and could barely sleep in the morning because of Bill and Sean’s argument, your hairstyle is obviously not your priority right now. You just want to be left alone and read your book… or sleep, which is not possible since Sean is still being loud. 

Arthur slowly moves behind you and first proceeds massaging your neck to allow you to relax a little after you tell him you need some time alone. His response is genuinely innocent and a little funny. "Then we’re gonna be alone together." he says, despite being aware of your overall fatigue. 

You chuckle, he smiles and sits behind you. "Let’s get tis hair fixed, shall we ?" he tells you right after grabbing an ivory comb he stole while robbing a house. The comb is very small for his large hand, almost looking like a doll accessory ! 

He loves your hair, whatever type it is. He loves passing his hands through it, massaging your scalp before brushing your beautiful locks with the tip of his fingers. This feeling is so good and often leads him to relax. 

He receives some side-looks from the rest of the gang. Such a large tank-built man calmly handling the task of combing your hair is somewhat funny to watch ! Especially when he profusely apologises whenever a groan escapes your mouth. "Sorry, sweetheart. But ‘em knots won’t untangle ‘emselves." he sighs. His hands shake a little, he doesn’t want to hurt you. 

He’s surprisingly very good at brushing your hair with this tiny comb ! You don’t really know much about it, but he had years to practice combing different types of hair with Tilly, and then with Mary-Beth and Karen. 

Arthur loves your hair, he loves its touch on his rough hands. It sometimes tickles him, so he chuckles while combing one of your locks, causing you to smile in return. His laughs are so rare, but so genuine ! 

While gently combing your hair, Arthur hums a few old ballads Hosea used to sing to him back when he was two decades younger. Between a few soft notes, he will ask about your day, despite knowing what you’ve been up to and how much you’re longing for some rest. 

So you talk, you complain, you laugh. And Arthur keeps combing your hair while complimenting it between a hum and a compassionate response to your restless day. He knows you’ll feel better after telling him everything.

You’re so tired that you end up dozing off after some time. Arthur smiles when he sees how much you’re fighting to stay awake and ties your hair in a low bun, lifting you up. "Let's get you to bed." he whispers as he carries you to his tent where you will be able to sleep without being bothered. 

He smiles for the rest of the day, still feeling the touch of your hair on his skin. What an amazing experience, he will surely do it again ! He even writes a journal entry about your beautiful locks and the way you fell asleep while he was mumbling his lovely ballads.

Sadie Adler :

It’s been a long day. You and Sadie robbed a local bank in the morning, then were on guard duty for the rest of the day. Now that the sun is going down, you can finally get some rest ! 

As a reward for your exploits over the past few days, Dutch has gifted you with a brand new ebony hairbrush he bought… or stole. Nobody knows how he got it, since it’s not Molly’s. But you don’t really mind, it’s still a very lovely gift from a man who is not forcibly known for offering stuff. 

You try brushing your tangled hair, but end up grumbling because how painful it feels. You spent your entire day with your hair running freely, it even caught a few bullets you can’t even manage to brush away ! This is one of the consequences of not tying your beautiful long hair while doing your jobs !

Sadie loves watching you grumbling about your hair and then calmly gestures towards you to get your hairbrush. "Lemme handle this, honey." she smiles, giving you a very charming look. How can you resist her ? With that look, you can reach the moon and handle it to her on a silver plate.

Her smile is worth everything you own. From your tent to your belongings… to your own soul. You give her the hairbrush, watching her move behind you, kneeling down while inspecting your hair. Well. "I see three bullets, your hair is a helmet !" she laughs. This is going to be a painful experience, you’re sure about that. 

Sadie also used to wander with her hair running freely. She hated untangling it, and her husband was always there to brush her beautiful blonde locks. Now, she is going to do the same for you. She adores your hair and would compliment it all day long if she could.

She starts by brushing your very ends, just like she does with her own hair. A technique which is definitely worth it since you don’t feel any pain, despite knowing about the bullets stuck in your hair and how hard it will be to get them out. "Almost done, honey." she coos.

Sadie handles the bullets with such an ease that you don’t even feel any pain. In fact, the only thing which makes you realise these bullets are gone is the soft thud they’re making while hitting the ground. "Well... I guess there ain't any more bullets left !", she chuckles.

Having long hair herself, Sadie knows how it feels like to endure pain while brushing her long locks. She is cautious with you, which might look a little surprising to the eyes of the rest of the gang who mostly sees her as a ruthless and cold-blooded outlaw. But, deep down, Sadie has a huge soft-spot for you. 

Having your hair between her hands feels great. Sadie usually loves passing her hands through it before kissing your temp or the to your head whenever you’re sitting on the ground, or on a log by the fire. 

As soon as she finishes brushing your hair, Sadie ties it in a braid. It would be a shame to have your hair tangled one more time, so her creation is securely tied with an ivory bow Karen offered you a few weeks ago, for a reason you completely forgot. 

Sadie compliments your beauty for the rest of the evening. You look so beautiful with your hair tied such way ! You’re a gem to her eyes, remember it. 

Charles Smith :

You just came back from your guard duty with Charles. The two of you share the same schedule and, despite him being silent most of the time, you really enjoy his company. It’s calming enough to make you feel safe. 

However, this morning, when you got up and took your rifle to patrol around the hideout, you completely forgot to brush your hair. Sean teased you about your hair looking like a dirty broom, but you did not mind at all. Charles, on the other hand, felt amused but also a little concerned. 

He adores watching you taking care of yourself. The way you comb your hair, the way you wash your face, the way you tie and untie your corset… he doesn’t say much about it, but he loves your routine. And having you walk around the hideout with your messy hair causes him to gently ask you if he can brush your locks. He wants to try something on you.

"If you don’t mind, I’d like to brush your hair, darling." he smiles. How can you say no to him ? He gently leads you to a small crate a little outside camp and makes you sit on it, moving behind you with a comb he crafted himself and offered you. He even carved some subtle flowers on it !

You already had the opportunity to brush Charles’ jet black hair, away from the rest of the gang’s sight. He enjoyed it so much that he started doing the same with you, finding this moment very relaxing. 

Having him brushing your hair is a very private moment for Charles, as much as the short amount of free time he’s granted to spend with you. He doesn’t want anyone to interrupt these very lovely moments he can enjoy with you. Not even his friends. 

Unsurprisingly, Charles does not talk much. He wisely thinks about every single one of his sentences and the topics he wants to talk about. "Would you like to go hunting with me tomorrow ?" he asks, carefully moving the comb through your hair. Since you love spending time with him, you accept his offer ! 

Charles appreciates the feeling of your hair caressing his hands. He strokes some of your locks while brushing them, fascinated about their silky touch. 

Your hair is undoubtedly tangled, and Charles, despite being very soft and careful, can not avoid hurting you a little. "I know it hurts, darling. I’m sorry." he whispers, making you feel sorry too. He’s cautious, and covers you with sweet nicknames whenever you groan. He absolutely hates seeing you in pain. 

When he finishes brushing your hair, he proudly runs his fingers through your locks, trying to figure out how he’s going to tie them. "Wait a minute, please." he smiles. There are many options at the moment, and your hair is flowing so gracefully that he can’t pick which hairstyle would suit you the best ! 

Charles brushes your hair in a braid while humming a song his mother used to sing him when he was very young. He then proceeds decorating his beautiful work with some daisies and kisses your temple to thank you for letting him brush your hair. You look gorgeous with your hair tied like this ! And Charles is proud whenever you walk past him shaking your long flower-covered braid ! 

He’s not ready to have the rest of the girls asking him to do the same for their hair. But seeing you so happy with your hairstyle makes him melt from the inside. 

Mary-Beth Gaskill :

You had a tough day. While you were just having a drink at the saloon with Karen and Bill, some time after collecting debts from a rich feller, someone caught you into a brawl. You’re somehow lucky Williamson was there to get you out of trouble, he’s the one who led you back to camp.

Mary-Beth is shocked to see you hurt so, as soon as Bill helps you down, she catches your hand and leads you to the tent she shares with the rest of the girls. She is not going to leave you alone today ! "You’re coming with me, Y/N dear !" she says.

She first talks about her day, about Ms. Grimshaw screaming at her because she was just reading a book, about chores… just to cheer you up. And then, she simply proceeds untying your hair and grabs her hairbrush. She always loved brushing your beautiful hair, especially knowing she will decorate it with several flowers and bows when she will be done. 

Having long hair herself, Mary-Beth knows what if feels like to untangle her locks. She does it every morning, shortly before getting dressed. As far as you can recall, you have never seen Mary-Beth with messy hair, even when you’re waking up before her. She is so perfect, all the time !

You kindly ask her about the book she is writing. You can’t see it, but she actually blushes while brushing your hair. "It’s still some silly scribbles, but I’m getting to something !" she tells you while chuckling of excitement. 

She adores the texture of your hair, rolling a few of your locks around her fingers while telling you more about her book and about a character that appears to be very inspired by you. The way she describes this beautiful and strong lady reminds you of yourself ! You’re beautiful to her eyes, and she doesn’t hesitate reminding that to you while brushing your hair !

Mary-Beth kindly asks you what hairstyle you would prefer. "You know, you’d look amazing with a pompadour updo, don’t you think ?". You can’t resist her beautiful smile, so you shrug while she gets a comb out her stash and starts back-combing your locks to give you more volume. 

"I’m sorry if it hurts, I’ll try doing it nice and slow, okay ?" she smiles after hearing you groan. It hurts, indeed. Your hair looks funny during the process, people who walk past you laugh at your sight. Arthur even takes his sweet time drawing you, mercilessly nicknaming you Y/N the hedgehog. 

Mary-Beth is extra cautious when she combs your hair. She wants you to look exactly like the character she had in mind, with the same Edwardian updo which suits any hair-type depending of the technique. Since she knows how to brush Tilly and Karen's hair, there’s no doubt she will do an excellent job styling yours ! 

While tying your hair up, you can hear Mary-Beth hum Lakmé’s Flower Duet. She can’t get this opera out of her head since Dutch played it on his gramophone. And this gives her an excellent idea ! As soon as she finishes styling your hair, she calmly gestures you to stay still. "I’ll be right back, don’t move !". 

You wait for about five minutes to see Mary-Beth come back with a large flower crown she puts on the top your fabulous hairstyle. You look perfect enough to make her blush whenever you glance towards her direction. She kisses your cheek when she’s officially done. 

You spend the rest of your day wandering around the camp with your beautiful hairstyle and your flower crown. Mary-Beth melts from the inside whenever you walk past her. The girls are obviously jealous of you, and Mary-Beth is so proud when she hears compliments about your hairstyle ! It was definitely worth it, since your day is now much better !

hypocrite girl very flawed she has her own damage when it comes to men hurting her that impacted her argument with mike - was max right that mike's unexamined sexism from living in a sexist society was impacting his overprotective/controlling behaviour towards el? yes. was mike right that max's enthusiasm for el's girlbossery was wilfully ignoring the fact that el is human and sometimes needs help? also yes. the layers, the complexity, very yummy

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I'm pretty happy with everything so far, but I really hope she's going to run into mike in the void (or wherever she is) and they get a bonding/working together side quest like robin and steve did. and then they somehow find a way out but max makes sure mike gets back instead of her and then el and lucas work together to save her

A: How did you come up with the title to [insert fic]?

lol ty I love talking about my titles. For Army Style, I had the idea of naming it after some old gay slang that could be thematically appropriate somehow. So I opened Gay Talk by Bruce Rodgers and went looking. Luckily it starts with A so it didn't take that long to find something fitting lol. It means, and I quote, "Beating the cocksucker after the act." It's technically slang from the mid 60s apparently but close enough.

For War Bonds, the fic was untitled until it was finished and I finally had to force myself to think of a title. Then it just came to me, and I knew it was perfect, because I'm a sucker for thematically appropriate puns lol. It's war bonds as in the bonds you buy to support the war effort, and war bonds as in the friendships you make in the army that also happen to support the war effort.

G: Care to share a favorite crack fic?

I'm into crack taken seriously. A few of my faves are:

Cafestrovalva (Doctor Who) - maybe my favourite Doctor/Master fic. It's a silly, fluffy, cute tea shop pseudo AU, and it's perfect.

Sadie, Sadie (Pet Shop of Horrors) - I know I've recced this to you before, but it's just so good. A very silly premise (Leon goes from 0 to proposing to D within two days all because Jill makes a joke) taken to its logical conclusion with amazing characterization.

The Couple Down the Street (Reanimator) - idk if this counts as crack considering the source material lol, but it's ridiculous and fun and again something with a very silly premise taken to its logical conclusion. Established relationship Dan and Herbert move to the suburbs under assumed identities to try to keep a low profile while continuing their experiments in the basement, of course.

ok so this post is like spawned from reading the notes on an age gaps in relationships post, that I just read while waking up today....

I think a big part of the discourse around age gaps in relationships is spurned on by again, the fuckin stupid ass elder millennials vs younger millennials (or even zillennials) and gen z bullshit "war". it's like, in the post I made like last month about a convo at my old work's staff christmas party in 2022, where one of the ladies in the finance team and the newish guy hired in my team (customer service)..... which was all about her being a 1989 millennial "just before the cusp of the 90s so I'm a REAL MILLENNIAL unlike you two (me and new emo guy who are 1995 (me) and 1997 (I think, emo guy)).... you fake-ass wannabe millennials. you're babies!!!! YOU GUYS HAVE NOTHING IN COMMON WITH ME!!!!" like yes we do, sadie. and i'm the cut-off for millennials in 1995. but I digress.

but to me, it's the elder millennials like this woman and even comedians (ie the elder millennial netflix standup special from iliza shelsinger whose 40 but was done in 2017 or whatever) who are breeding the idea that people in their mid 20s, born in the mid to late 90s are "uwu cute lil babies who i have NOTHING in common with, so therefore you are a child (and everyone else your age by extension are children), to me." in age gap relationship discourse.

like sadie, for the love of fuck. there is 6 years difference in age between us. you may be in you mid 30s, yes. so you obvs have a bit more life experience than me, in general.... and actually went through 9/11, possibly understanding the implications of it (which I didn't bc I was literally 5/6 years old in 2001 when it happened; but I still knew what the fuck it was... even though yes, we're aussie.... but this is always used as the major event that younger millennials are "too young to understand and that therefore means that they're not real millennials")..... and again, you really experienced y2k fashion properly; whereas I watched it unravel on TV. but that does NOT make me child, incapable of making my own decisions, according to you. apparently emo guy doesn't know what rent is..... when he was actively moving out of his rented place to move in with his girlfriend's parents (one of whom, we all worked with)???? like make up your mind.

but from the comedian side, particularly the iliza shelsinger special that im talking about, it's the insinuation that as a 1995 baby and the people just under me, like emo guy, have NO IDEA what a landline is???? and that again makes us babies.... children who don't know the ways of the world before our all-knowing smartphones, which are connected to our hands like edward scissorhands. again, of course i know what the fuck a landline is!!!!!! I used one up until about 2009??? when my friends finally started to get their mobiles. of course, it means that I didn't have my own private landline (and hamburger phone, thanks juno) to my own room, which was an expensive must-have, that very people few would have ACTUALLY HAD, in the 2000s.... bc by that time, cordless phones were a thing anyway. and the age gap between me and this comedian is 12 years. she's just turned 40, born in 1983. so, therefore, again, I am but a babe. a mere naive lamb in the world of more knowledgeable, wiley wolves. but you're in your 20s!!!! you DON'T KNOW THE HORROR!!! yes i do!!!! i fully do. bc we literally JUST GOT RID OF OUR LANDLINE PHONE LAST YEAR, IN 20 FUCKING 22!!!!! don't you dare tell me i don't know what it is.

moreover, bro. I am 20 fucking 8 (well, nearly). I turn 30 in two years time. yes, I may have never moved out of home (lol fucked up rental crisis.... and everything else, where the world is falling apart).... but I do pay my own car insurance and car loan (finally). hell!!!!! i BOUGHT my own car last year.... even if it wasn't fully in cash lol. I may have only had my first ever ~real adult~ job last year (kinda... and first job ever, period).... but that doesn't make me a child. I am still an adult, capable of making my own choices.... even if one of my choices is utterly refusing to date people... like, ever.... due to my horrendous past experiences with guys in my late teens. "but!!! but!! both of these women croon, YOU ARE STILL A CHILD! YOU HAVE HOPE!!! UNLIKE MY JADED ASS!!!" yeah. nah. my hope for the future fizzled out years ago. maybe not emo guy's. but mine defs has. and why is feeling jaded like a weird fucking milestone and badge of honour to wear???

in my actual life, one of my primary school best friends just divorced her high school sweetheart a couple of months ago. due to the guy changing his mind on having kids (ie he started wanting them, but he works one week one/one week off and fly in/fly out in the mines.... and since they were in another state, South Australia, they had NO family or friends to help my besite with the kid that she didn't even really want.... and he didn't want to do 50% of the housework and mental work for them). she owns a fucking house and pays house insurance. she works a high-powered government job in sydney now. my other primary school bestie, ironically, just got married to her uni sweetheart, and they're renting in the fucked up rental hellscape that is sydney. we all drive. we all have cars... even if I did take forever to get my full licence and my own car.

what, in any part of the above paragraph, is not a wiley adult wolf, just like both of these 80s babies think that they are???? both of these women who I've mentioned in this post would've had these conversations with past partners, and obviously with their current partners (the comedian had a kid in late 2022 I think, and the woman from work had like 2 or 3 kids, for example). they both own houses etc etc.

I agree!!! I very much think that Godot and Jake could be positive role models for the bastard trio where Gyro falls short. For example, both Jake and Godot pick up on how Gyro is ruder more often to Maggie than to Paxe and Sadie-Mae, which they find weird. Very unusual. They want to investigate it more without setting off alarms in Maggie's head that something serious might be going on. In the meantime, they occupy Maggie's time, helping her with homework, lifting her down from the monkey bars when she's stuck and calling for help, accompanying her on walks in the park (and chasing after her if she ever gets too far or tries to run off by herself).

One detail I try to carefully navigate through is understanding Maggie's reaction when she's around her peers and family members who don't really look like her. Johnny and his children have fairer skin, much like her classmates, and up until now, only Gyro had darker skin like hers, but even his was significantly lighter. Maggie's got darker skin like her mom, and with Gyro's constant mistreatment, she felt like she didn't really fit in. She later questioned if her father didn't like her because she didn't look like him. She favored the mother (in terms of appearance). Then along came Godot and Jake who have skin color of a shade similar to hers, who pepper in a few foreign words her and there like her father, who have darker hair like hers (well, before Godot's turned white lol)...They were like cultural role models for Maggie and helped her feel more comfortable. Coupled with the fact that Gyro really liked these men, they made her feel safer.

But that still didn't answer the question of why Gyro was especially rude to her whenever she wore anything yellow.

And wouldn't it be cute if Jake and Godot taught Maggie and her sisters a bit of Spanish? I think it would be cute. Like, Gyro doesn't know Spanish, so anytime Jake or Godot catches him being standoffish with Maggie, they cheer Maggie up by saying a lighthearted joke about Gyro in Spanish. Maggie understands what they're saying and laughs at the joke, and Gyro is completely clueless lol.

Ok so there's this one scene in Back to the Future Part III where a sheriff is teaching his son how to be sheriff and tough with outlaws. The outlaw tries to get smart with him and tells him to smile because the sheriff is always frowning, and the sheriff replied, "The only party I'll be smiling at is one that sees you at the end of a rope." And when the outlaw walks away, the sheriff tells his son not to give any of these outlaws any ground, and the son replied with, "I will, Pa."

And so the point is, Paxe eventually opens up to the idea that Godot and Jake are coinhabiting HER house (that's right, her house and not Gyro's lol), and she gets curious as children are. She tails Jake around the most, asking him what he does, and he explains in his own way that he's a rogue sheriff, and she's just. Taken by the idea of being a cowboy! So long story short, I can see that scene happening between the two of them, where Jake teaches Paxe how to be tough with criminals, and Paxe eagerly takes in all of the information. And Jake is so proud of her!!!! He pats her shoulder and tells her what a good job she's doing (gruffly, of course) and takes her out to lunch to have spaghetti, which she's not gonna say no to.

Godot taking care of Sadie-Mae is like a ray of sunshine for the girl. She thought that she was all alone in her pain and that she stood out in all the wrong ways. Then she meets one of the guys her buffoon of a father is dating and...she feels seen. There's this invisible connection between Godot and Sadie-Mae that subconsciously draw them together. At first, Sadie-Mae tries to dismiss Godot like she would her father, but he doesn't go away like she wanted. Instead, he stays and plays with her a bit, using her own words against her to poke fun at her. Light fun, and no matter what she says to him to make him go away, her words never hit him. He sits across from her, sipping his coffee, savoring the bitterness of it, and calling her "kitten" and "princess". He's so charming that her frustration kinda burns out, and she finds herself chatting pleasantly with him. He asks her about that favorite porcelain doll she always carried around, and she opens up even more, eventually gushing all about how she loves her doll. And she doesn't even realize it! When she realizes that she's talking to much or just generally sounding silly, she gets all self-conscious and clams up again. He picks up on her sudden shyness and chuckles--it was cute!

The next day, Gyro nearly falls out of his chair when he sees that brat Sadie-Mae run up to Godot after school and immediately ask him for homework help.

Also like....Godot giving Sadie-Mae a piggy back ride, come on now!!! And whenever she says to make a turn or go here or go there, he replies with "As you wish, princess". You know, general dad-daughter cutesy stuff.

But due to their traumatic backgrounds, do you think that Godot would be especially physically protective of Sadie-Mae? Like, sometimes a serious thing happens or appears on TV, and Godot immediately shoo-es Sadie-Mae off, so that she doesn't see what's happening. Same goes for the other girls. When the girls are on the playground and one of them goes out of his line of sight, he's out of his chair looking for them.

And omg!!! Ever hear of a kids game where the kids are playing on a playground slide and tree and pretend that the playground construct is a ship and the ground around them is the ocean? Well, the girls pretend that they're sailors tryna survive on their stranded ship and not get caught by three "monsters" lurking in the water. So the girls run and jump from one end of their "ship" to the other while Gyro, Jake, and Godot slip underneath them and try to grab them from the steps or slide, etc. It's a little pretend game of survival.

And Johnny loves Gyro's children and thinks of them as his own, but he's also got Julia and Marco to worry about. M&M has Reese, so I imagine that all of the adults work together to wrangle the kids.

Season 1 is great! You don’t really know any of the lore or gem stuff so you’re just kind of like “garnet has a 3rd eye..neat” or “rose’s room is all sorts of messed up.” Unfortunately I didn’t get into SU until about end of season 2 but it would’ve been awesome to see all the theories like garnet being a fusion all play out!

I’d say my top 10 in no particular order are:

1. Cheeseburger Backpack- it’s just really funny and classic Steven, I love seeing Pearl in dismay about the sea spire and her being huffy that Steven is solving these problems with things like bagels while Amethyst and Garnet hype him up!

2. Together Breakfast: I think the idea of the together breakfast is absolutely atrocious but that’s why I love it. Also like it’s kind of the first look at what Steven’s day to day life is like and how his relationships with the gems are. And especially in hindsight it’s kind of one of the first moments to hit you in the heart because Steven, a kid, has to run around and beg to have a meal with his caretakers.

3. Bubble Buddies: I mean. Steven and Connie. The glow bracelet. The friendship! And when Steven falls off his bike and just runs away crying while Connie is like O.O 😅 other funniest part is when they get in front of the roller coaster and think it’ll be fine, like no you’re either gonna get launched like you did or it’ll pop and then you get run over by a roller coaster omg. The animation is also amazing in this one.

4. Lars and the Cool Kids: Lars is one of my favorite characters so I love this first episode where Lars is in pretty much the whole episode. And it’s a perfect introduction to the Cool Kids with their classic attitude of cool kids that are actually cool. Also love the introduction of the chest touch Steven and Lars do 🥹

5. Beach Party: I really love this episode because it’s just really cute! We get to see the gems in different outfits and I love when each crystal gem gets paired with the Pizza they’re most like. And Nanefua and Steven are so precious together! Plus the opening scene where Garnet is just in the roof and Kofi is losing his mind is so so good. “Kofi you so loud! Aaaaah!” I just love Nanefua

6. Garnet’s Universe: I feel like I don’t even need to explain this one because it’s just 100% cuteness

7. Island Adventure: I loved seeing Sadie and Lars grow closer together and show that they do like each other even though sometimes they mess up or are kind of a jerk (looking at you mainly Lars). I really like how Sadie gets her little scar and keeps it through the whole show!

8. Monster Buddies: CENTI!!! I love the lore about corrupted gems we get here and also I just love Steven’s little Chaps song and Centi how she is. It’s a very cute episode but also makes me sad each time when Centi saves Steven but poofs

9. Alone Together: obviously this has got to be on here. Steven and Connie are both so cute in this and I love the mysterious but also incredibly silly Stevonnie here! And Garnet’s reaction really makes this episode 100x better. The first bit of Steven Universe I ever saw/heard of was gifs of the scene where Stevonnie goes to the Big Donut and Lara and Sadie are just all flustered lol

10. Jail Break: I gotta put this on the list because of the reveal of Garnet as a fusion and meeting Ruby and Sapphire. Stronger Than You is an AMAZING song and scene. I liked seeing Peridot be kind of silly too like when she’s wiggling to the escape pod with amethyst’s whip around her or saying “go to earth they said! It’ll be fun they said 😒”

6. Who would have really deep emotional thoughts at the middle of the night/ Who would have them in the middle of the day?

manner i feel like either one of them could have them at either time. tanner might be a little more likely in the middle of the night bc his sleep is a mess what with his nightmares and general fucked up-ness lol. morgan kind of is more triggered by things to have those kinds of thoughts so really it could happen whenever smth happens to make them happen.

jordam adam during the night, bc he doesn’t sleep as much as jordan obv so he spends a lot of time alone at night brooding thinking. jordan, probably not so much the middle of the day but right at the beginning in the morning. like while she’s psyching herself up to get up and start her day.

fadie (bc sarah is an actual name that evokes unpleasant thoughts lol) both of them, anytime, at the drop of a hat. they’re both really open though so idk if the thoughts would remain thoughts bc they’d both probably be really willing/eager to share them and talk them out, good or bad.

- travis and connor stoll r way too underrated. the two have been head counselors of the hermes cabin since luke was revealed as a traitor, can u imagine the stress? luke, the person they probably looked up to as a brother, betrayed them. and they didnt even have time to process this when they were  thrown the roles of being hcs. that would have been so stressful and i would probably have broken down if i were them. the stoll brothers taking turns to wake up at ungodly hours because a new camper is crying and homesick and terrified, the stoll brothers having to comfort and take care of new campers, having to deal with the amount of people in that cramped space because not enough campers are being claimed fast enough. having to resolve issues between campers in the hermes cabin all the time. the stolls arent just comedic relief, and we need to stop treating them as such

- annabeth isnt smarter than leo but neither is leo smarter than annabeth. ive seen a lot of discussions about who is smarter and heres my hot take on it: neither. theyre equally smart, just in different ways. leos a genius mathematically speaking. he has no issues solving math problems meant for people much, much older than him. annabeth on the otherhand, is great at strategies etc. she can make an army of 1000 more powerful than the enemy, even if theyre outnumbered. so in my opinion, both are equally as smart//u cant compare their intelligence, because their talents lie in two different areas.

HOWEVER, i have seen multiple posts BY pocs talking about how they didnt really like rick’s representation of piper, and thats an issue. pocs have been and are still oppressed and discriminated against by many. as a white cis man, we cant really blame him for not knowing (tho he could have done a research,, asked some pocs,, idk), but by representing pocs in that manner, hes influencing impressionable kids/teens into thinking “oh pocs wear feathers in their hair all the time” etc, which isnt true. the pjo/hoo series is extremely successful, and kids who read the books will probably start forming inaccurate opinions on pocs. the amount of fan art that depicts piper with feathers in her hair dont help either. “but rick said so in the books, so its canon” yeah well rick isnt a god and he can get some things wrong at times. im not saying we should cancel him, im saying we should start educating ourselves and not spread false info like pocs wearing feathers in their hair all the time. also that snake song shit where she sang Summertime was just- yeah. bc heres the thing you can be racist, and still include minorities, but portray them in a racist way. And even then, ignorance isn't a thing to admire. Getting those facts wrong still has a major impact. It continues to perpetuate racist stereotypes.

- the fact that most of the strong female characters in the series refuse to be “girly”, and ngl i dont really like that. just because ure girly doesnt mean u cant be strong. 

- piper would have been a great way for him to start making the strong characters act girlier, but instead he went with the “I’m not like other girls” trope which is quite obnoxious to hear constantly, and I don’t think it’s necessarily great for younger girls to read that idea growing up.  the closest we've ever had to a strong female character who was also into "girly" things was Silena. when I was younger I admired Piper's "I'm not like other girls" thing, but then I got older and realized that the whole mentality of "not like other girls" is super obnoxious, and a little bit toxic

I have to say, I really enjoying Laws of Attraction. I really do. This book makes it up for PB to give up on heavy potential books like Distant Shores and Foreign Affairs. (The tragedy they did to those books even tho I still like them. Side Note: Slow Burn is a great book too) It feels like whoever the team is behind this book actually took their time to stay on course with the plot, characters have well placed personalities...it's just outstanding so far. This is a prime example of how Open Heart should had been. (Not to talk about that messy book.)

I even love all the characters.

The MC: There have been some incompetent MC's that makes me want to choke them, but this one I like.

Gabe Ricci: Sorry but not actually sorry Ethan and Sam stans but Gabe to me is a perfect written boss. He is much more chill. He recognizes MC's work ethnics unlike Ethan who belittles the MC, keep their relationship a secret, and doesn't appreciate the MC until the third book when the MC had to save his ass from a huge lawsuit. And Sam who would risk everything and destroy his/her home for the nanny. Like, I love the slow burn with him and MC. Like he knows he want MC but he want to focus on the case and I can respect that. Especially, if he's your route, It looks like MC is the one who perusing Gabe and when Gabe is fighting to not cross that taboo line, MC goes to have these random hookups. The angst and drama is keeping me interested. And I know it is working because I see people in the fandom PISSED that Gabe isn't dicking them down yet. Lol. I love it.

Ashlinn: What a sweet angel. She is perfect wifey material. I love how she started as a quiet nervous person and by each chapter, she grows into a much more confident woman. That chapter with the actors and she placed Beau in his lane, I lived. If she was my type, I would romanced her with my MC. Maybe in my next run of the book.

Beau: Ok I knew Beau would be that fuckboy character just because he has family ties to the firm. Typical frat boy. I knew we would hate him, especially after he took credit from MC's hard work, but again the character development of him to be more serious just make me like him. He earned extra points for taking the heat for MC and the rest of the team in today's chapter. I would loved if he was an LI option.

Martin: I know he supposed to be the villain and be this "I'm better than you" jackass but I can't be mad at him. Again the character development. He's trying to stay snarky but he's slowly warming up to the team. It's cute that he thinks he's MC's rival, but we all know. But real tip, the man needs to be laid. MC would help.

Gigi: Sis! Queen! Ride or die! I. LOVE. THIS. WOMAN! Just her everything is just god tier. I know she mentioned a girlfriend in the beginning of the book, but what would it been if our wlw sisters get to romance her? The dynamic between them would be powerful. (I wish my MC could romance her. I'll put a ring on that finger fast.)

Sadie: Boss ass bitch. I like her. I seen people upset that she yelled at the team in the chapter, even tho it is the team's fault to give Marcus information before them. Honestly, they could had waited to tell Marcus after they notify Gabe and Sadie. I've even seen folks on here saying "She does nothing for the case but judge" that's the point. She literally put trust in the case in Gabe and the team's hands and Gabe keep her up to date about it. So she has all the right. Plus, she the type to like it when people go for what they want. I saw comments about when Mac requested a room by the lake at her home. Sadie expressed the expression "Closed mouths don't get feed" and I kinda respect her for that.

Marcus: Yeah I dig this character because I can relate to him. As a black man myself, I get why he don't be too comfortable with lawyers. In RL, it is so hard for black people to trust the justice system. There would be so much evidence that proves that you're innocent but the police would do the bare minimum or none at all policing because they made up their minds that you did it. Then there would be slimy lawyers that tells you to plea guilty because you can't win. So I can understand why Marcus acting this way. Yes, he should believe in this team more, but I understand where he is coming from. (Sorry that I put real issues in this lol) Now to the juicy topic. I knew Marcus wanted MC since that walk they did in a couple of chapters before. And yes it is so unprofessional and unethical for a lawyer to sleep with their clients. But, did I spend the night with him regardless? Yes. Yes I did. To be fair, Marcus asked MC for comfort and relief. MC never showed any interest in Marcus or perused him. He ASKED out of trust. So to me this part got me actually thinking. Should my MC give in to him so he can keep the trust in MC or MC turn him down and he would change his perspective of MC later down the road. Either or I feel like consequences is going to happen and as I am an angst trash, I went and gave Marcus the night of his life. If it's not your cup of tea (Again shout out to the wonderful wlw ladies out there) totally understandable. But I like Marcus. If he becomes a potential LI which it looks like then Gabe has some serious competition because I might switch up.

The Hookups: I enjoy them. I like Lisa (The Robin sprite I think is her name in this book. I can't remember. How awkward it is to be playing The Nanny Affair while playing this book because of Robin/Lisa) And Tyler. Yes my MC did do that mlm threesome with Tyler and the PI (who name I also forgot). Yes MC gave the PI that good dick while Tyler watched. I feel robbed slightly that my MC didn't dick down Teddy after we made out with him in the club but the threesome made up for it. These hookups wouldn't happen if Gabe and Ashlinn isn't giving us this wonderful slow burn romance. But I enjoyed it.

Overall, I really like this book. I say this book is A tier. It has it moments like the group trust trip..that was weird but still. A tier. Close but not S tier like Blades. (That book is *chef kiss* Closer we are to the what will be insanity that is Blades 2 and I can not wait!) I hope this is the same team that is doing Crimes of Passion. (The acronym of Crimes of Passion is CoP...I see what they did there.) That book screams LoA's spin off. But still I'm really enjoying LOA. I just hope this not going to be a standalone book. It said it is a series at the beginning of the book, but PB been shady about that lately. Let it stay as a series. Hopefully it is a series.

“Steven and Rose became my favorites because they’re initially portrayed as being “Better”/“more innocent” than the other characters-- only for the show to gradually TWIST REVEAL that they’re just as messy as everyone else, if not more.”

Tell me about it! I really love this kind of characters (arcs) I think this is the reason I loved Steven Universe: Future so much, I really loved how they deconstructed and developed Steven in it, since then he has become one of my favorite characters because of it (and I always thought Rose quartz was an amazing developed character).

Like you said they explored the concept of a seemingly “better” and more “innocent” characters being as messy as any other character in the show, in a way every single character on Su has done something messy, but that doesn’t stop them from changing and becoming better.

Every single character in the show is very very flawed, and this is innovative in a way.

Usually if you pick a show there is a consensus on which character is the best, usually there is only one or two character who are the author’s darling and it’s them who are given flaws and all the character development, but in Steven universe I think many if not all the characters could fit into that criteria, all of them are very well developed.

Like I said this is probably why Steven become one of my favorite characters in Future, the show managed to make feel uncomfortable about Steven’s actions of all people and consequently made me feel uncomfortable about his character and many thought this was a sign of “bad writting”, when in reality this was intentional and anything but bad writting.

I hoped to not be the only one who really liked Future and Steven’s development in it, I feel a little less alone now.

I recommend following @faelapis especially if you’re not already, I absolutely love his meta lol (it’s part of why I rarely feel the need to write my own SU meta. because he’s probably already written it better than I could XD)

I think my favorite thing about Future is the message about how........ When you get older, your character flaws that adults thought were “cute” and “harmless” when you were a small child suddenly become SCARY in a way that is impossible for them to downplay/ignore.

 Like: Steven’s anxiety about being powerless/useless/unable to do things without his parental figures babysitting him was always turning him into a monster, all the way back in season 1.

But in season 1, that anxiety turns him into a “fluffy adorable cat monster”

While in Future, he’s a looming city-sized kaiju:

lol that’s why I love SU Future so much-- because it also like, recontextualizes  a lot of the earlier seasons of the show?

It’s not just that Steven makes a bunch of bad uncomfortable choices, it’s also that you start to realize he’s been making these bad uncomfortable choices the entire time!!!!!!! The entire show! and you just didn’t notice because he’s been a small child who didn’t have a lot of power.

So watching Steven Universe Future is like:

“Steven would never do that--oooooooh wait no never mind, he would definitely do that, there was an episode a while back where he literally did exactly what he’s doing now, it’s just that back then the characters (and audience) didn’t treat it as seriously as they should’ve because Steven was a Babey.” XD

Like-- Steven training to fight in order to avoid his emotions in Fragments is like Steven training to fight in order to avoid his emotions way back in Mindful Education, Steven attempting to control Lars and Sadie’s relationship in Little Graduation is like Steven attempting to control their relationship in Island Adventure/The New Lars, and so on and so on. Steven’s making almost the same bad decisions he made as a smol child, but now that he’s older no one thinks it’s “cute” anymore, and he’s a lot more afraid to ask for help because he knows he’s an “adult” who’s supposed to be able to figure these things out on his own.

So I went with the AU version for them because I would have more to talk about since 1) both Liz and Rorke are alive and 2) they know their relatives (unfortunately). Elliott: 

Is the more extroverted twin. 

Also the wildest. He scared Liz and Rorke more times than they can count by doing something not so safe. 

Is very protective of his younger sisters. 

Inherited his dad’s height and ended up being one inch taller than him. 

Has a close relationship with Merrick. 

When he was a toddler he would climb out of his crib in the middle of the night and play with his toys. That’s when Liz and Rorke knew it was time to get them toddler beds. 

Even though his interests changed over the years, he still holds a very close bond with his twin. 

His favorite food is chicken tacos. If he could he would eat them every day.

When he was a toddler his favorite thing to do was finger paint. And half the time it did not stay on the paper. 

Broke his ankle while roller-skating when he was 10. Elliott and Sadie drew pictures on his cast afterwards. 

He went through a phase where all he wanted for lunch was peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Liz didn’t care she found it cute and it’s not like pb&j is hard or time consuming to make.  

Has a very close relationship with uncle Logan. He loves doing things with him, even if it’s just finger painting. 

Liz picked out his name because she liked it. However she’s not a fan of the actual meaning of it though. It means ‘barrel maker’. 

He looks more like his dad than his brother does. 

Sometimes he’ll sit with Keegan in the rec-room and read with him or he’ll paint while Keegan reads. 

Sadie: 

She’s daddy’s little princess through and through. She had Rorke wrapped around her finger the moment she was born. 

She’s 14 months younger than her brothers’. They knew they wanted another kid at some point it just happened a lot sooner than expected. 

She was good sleeper as an infant and both Liz and Rorke were ecstatic because of it. Having three kids all under the age of two is a lot of work and very tiring. 

She looks like a mix of both parents, but has her father’s personality. 

A tomboy growing up, she also loved her barbies and would play for hours on end with them. 

As she got older she became more blunt which did cause a lot of problems. Sadie did not have a filter for her voice. 

Get’s along great with Keegan and uncle Logan. Keegan has that laid back attitude where you feel comfortable and Logan is just the fun, loving uncle. 

Her favorite colors are blue, light green and maroon. 

One of her favorite hobbies is to read. And has multiple bookshelves filled with books.

Madelyn: 

Maddie was not planned at all. Both Liz and Rorke thought they were done having kids, three was enough and then Liz ended up falling pregnant. 

She’s the only one that ended up having blonde hair and blue eyes, while her siblings have dark brown and brown eyes besides Cooper who ended up with pine green eyes. 

She’s a music junkie and you’ll always find earbuds in her ears as she does things. 

Not very talkative, she prefers to be quiet. But if she has something to say she’ll say it. 

Had to wear glasses since she was six months old. 

Her nicknames are Maddie, Mads, sweetheart (Rorke) and sweetie (Liz).

Looks up to her older siblings, Cooper a bit more due to his relaxed and calm personality. 

Liz was the one to pick out her name cause she liked how Madelyn Rorke rolled off the tongue. 

When she was a toddler she has this plush dog that she took everywhere with her.

Hey, that's not boring at all! Arthur is very important, I'm excited for this :D thank you. (I’m sorry it took such a long time)

How I feel about this character

This is gonna be a very generic answer that I assume most players share about him and it’s what makes him one of the best main characters in a game... But... I just love his personality, how real he feels. How he has these two sides, a rough outlaw and a tender man. I can't get over how much I love his journal and the fact we can read his thoughts so easily, it's such a great way to see his true self. And he's also very funny in it, which is another bonus :D. Another thing for me is that I started playing this game in the middle of the pandemic and when everything was closed and quarantined, I played the game like every single day for several months. Arthur grew so close to my heart in that time, I actually loved spending time with him (I know that sounds pathetic, bear with me) and exploring the world with him. I took every single thing that happened or that we found very seriously as if I was there with him experiencing it. But like I said, I feel like a lot of people have a similar positive relationship with him, that's what makes him so loved. We feel like he's our actual friend and that's why the ending is extra heartbreaking. He's gonna be forever in my heart :'D

My unpopular opinion about this character

I don't know if this counts here because it involves another character but I don't think I have anything else unpopular about Arthur. So when I first played the game, I actually rooted for him and Mary and I enjoyed those missions with her? I think the mission when they are in the Saint Denis theatre is really sweet, especially when it lets you to try to make a move on Mary but Arthur is so awkward and he backs out at the last minute lol.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

Well besides the obvious "I wish he survived and helped John and Charles build Beecher's Hope", I just wish he had a lot more happy moments in the game? Everything around him is always crumbling, I just want him to be happy. Maybe another thing - I saw some people say how his story would be better if he started being more honorable from his own accord and not because he got sick, and I guess I have to agree with that (however, I played him fully high honor from the beginning, so to me he is always like that :D). But overally I like his story how it is... Thank you so much for the ask! ♥

Top 5 animated movies:

1. Whisper of the Heart - Such a cute and whimsical slice-of-life coming of age story, and so inspiring for creative types! I love how Shizuku sees her fantasies come to life in the world around her, and how she just follows her whims to wander the city and treats each day like an adventure. I see a lot of myself in her. The grandpa and his shop are so cool! I want to find a place like that in my city! I love how she and Seiji inspire and encourage each other to improve themselves. Even though they’re so young and I usually hate that kind of thing, I think it’s a very realistic portrayal of what true love and a healthy relationship should be. The way her writing is treated as a creative process and something she can polish with hard work is just such a wonderful message and so inspiring to me.

2. Spirited Away - I love the Japanese culture and mythology, and the serene, still tone of the film. Truly beautiful. The way it doesn’t paint the spirits and gods in a bad light is good and correct: they were the careless humans who went into their world and took what they shouldn’t have. But it still focuses on the supernatural and eerie elements, often without even explaining anything, which I love. And the bathhouse feels like a real functioning place with workplace culture and all. And of course it’s great that Chihiro steps up and learns to be strong. I just love it.

3. Howl’s Moving Castle - I love all the characters so much, and all the magic and whimsy. The fantasy European setting is so charming, and they did a good job depicting Western magic. Ghibli movies really have such mundane magic, and they make me feel like my life is magic too. Sophie is so good and strong and I love seeing her come into her own. And Howl is hot. lmao

4. My Neighbor Totoro - I had the original Fox dub of this on a bootleg VHS my grandma made us when I was literally like an infant. My parents threw it away when I was still young- like no older than 5- because it “has Eastern religion in it” 🙄 Too bad for them the damage was already done lmfao. It was definitely one of the biggest influences of my formative years, I loved it so much and I’m so grateful to it. That mundane magic I talked about before, and just introducing me to a totally different worldview from my sheltered white American Christian bubble. I was fascinated by every single aspect from the traditional Japanese-style home to the bentos to the shrines... I really admired Satsuki and how grown up she was, taking care of her little sister like she did, making the lunches, all that. It’s really such a charming movie with great music and such a realistic depiction of childhood. Plus who doesn’t love Totoro himself?? And catbus! Iconicccc. I still look for little portholes in bushes and trees to this day lmao

5. Mulan - My little 8-year-old enby ass crying in the living room and repeatedly playing the Reflections scene over and over makes so much more sense now 😂 But really it’s just such a great film with a unique art style, fun characters, and great music. I love how Mulan fights for what she believes is right, and wants to protect her father. And I think it’s great how she also fights to find her own place in the world. I like how they don’t make it a “not like other girls” thing, but just that she personally somehow doesn’t feel comfortable in her own skin with the makeup and all that. Between her living as a man and the clear romantic relationship between “Ping” and Shang, it’s pretty good queer representation for a 2000s Disney movie lol. Also Mulan and Shang can both get it I mean what.

Honorable Mention: Prince of Egypt - That animation tho! So fucking cinematic!! And the music and everything just ugh so good! The characters are really compelling too and you can totally feel the brotherly love and familial issues.

Top 5 live action movies:

1. Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day - This is a movie where you can’t look away for a moment or you’ll miss something important. It really is just one entire heck of a day for the main character like howwww does so much happen. It’s really just written so well honestly that they manage to pack so much into a single movie and a single day. I aspire to that level. The 30s setting is so great with the costumes and set and music ahh I get so much inspiration from it. Every single character (and actor for that matter) is just fantastic. It’s super funny- that situational comedy is my jam. And there are touching moments that give me inspiration for my own life. I relate to Miss Pettigrew with her clear social anxiety, and perhaps neurodivergency? But I love how the events of the film bring out the best in her. And Delysia is just so charming! I want her confidence

2. La La Land - Such a fun and whimsical musical about life for creatives in Los Angeles~ It makes me feel nostalgic and proud to live here. I love all the different homages to classic Hollywood, and the music is so good!! The love story feels realistic and I actually really like that they don’t end up together in the end. They just encourage each other to be better, and if that means being apart, they’re willing to do it. It is another one that gives me inspiration for my life and creative endeavors, especially The Fools Who Dream 😭 Gets me every time.

3. Mamma Mia - This is my shameless feel-good movie. I love just putting it on in the background as I clean or whatever. It’s just so upbeat and fun!! I love Amanda Seyfried and Meryl Streep especially. And I like that the main character learns what she wants (and doesn’t want) out of life right now. And I love that they depict older characters and women!! having full and rich lives including romance and sex. The message that it’s never too late for love is so great! And also just like please communicate and you will probably save yourself so much heartache lmao.

4. Across the Universe - I have an affinity for the 60s and 70s, and I love how this movie kind of takes you through that era with the various characters. It’s such a fun movie with great costumes, cinematography, and music! I just love all the covers of the Beatles songs!! I honestly like them just as much as I like the originals. This is one of the first things I ever saw with positive/neutral queer representation?? Like Sadie is presented just as she is, without it being like WHAT SHE LIKES WOMEN?????? I”MPOSSIBLE !! Or making it all about sex or whatever. It’s literally just like “I want to hold your hand.” Also the whole bit with Eddie Izzard is just incredible lmfao

5. LOTR - My first fandom~ I love these movies so much ughhh. The music! The costumes! The characters! The world! The high fantasy!! I think PJ was so true to the books, or at least as much as he was able in just 10-ish hours. I love that they just went for it and filmed all three in one go, and made them over 3 hours long, which was basically unheard of at the time for blockbuster films. They did so good fully representing the different races through costume, language, culture, and the music too. I literally used to just lay on my bed for hours at a time in junior high, listening to the soundtracks and being immersed in the world. My friends and I would often play pretend that we were in Middle Earth (so lame for middle schoolers lmaooo). I love every single (not-evil) character and I will fight for them. I will especially fight Denethor I don’t even cARE !

Honorable mention: A Little Princess - Sooo whimsical and lovely, even when the girls are going through hardship! I love Sarah and how she literally does magic and even puts a curse on what’s her face omgg. She’s so charming and a genuinely good person too, even though she could have been a spoiled brat. The big climactic scene is so !! Omg I still get the adrenaline when she’s crossing the board and then hiding from the police even though I’ve seen this countless times since I was a small child. And it’s so wonderful that she’s reunited with her father, and they adopt the other girl. It taught me at a young age that the world isn’t fair and people will be nasty and abusive for no reason, but that you can still believe in magic and “fancy yourself a princess.” And the neighbor guy taught me that strangers will step in to help out of the goodness of their heart.

Top 5 TV shows:

1. ATLA - One of the best series of all time. The worldbuilding, lore, storyline, character development, animation, music, etc, are all incredible. If they had gone with the original intention of making Zutara canon it would have been literally perfect and so subversive and innovative! As it is it is still nearly perfect and they still did an amazing job with Zuko’s redemption arc. I just ignore that very last scene tbh. In my mind, it didn’t happen. The series addresses so many issues like imperialism, sexism, abuse, family, disability, war, etc, in a very realistic way. Uncle Iroh is literally a treasure.

2. Steven Universe - So charming and wonderful!! I just love it so much!! It is so goddamn queer, it makes me so happy. Stevonnie is the nonbinary representation we don’t even deserve!! I love every single character. I love the animation and the music too! The bgm is so bubbly and glitchy and cool, super on point for trends these days. And the original songs are so charming~ It also deals with a ton of important issues like imperialism, interpersonal relationships, oppression, self-identity, abuse, leadership, mental health, boundaries, consent, brain-washing, unlearning unhealthy behavior, etc. I love that every single character, even minor ones, get character development and a chance to be strong and improve themselves. And it shows that even the ones we initially think are super strong and have it all together, actually have their own issues that they struggle with too.

3. Yuuri!!! On Ice - This show!!!! Oh my goddddddd. Literally perfect. I love that it just subverts every single trope???? Especially with the events at the beginning and the big spoiler in episode 10. Simply incredible. I love every single character so much??? Even ones I was expecting to hate, like how Yurio is a little shit at the beginning, and then when Lilia is introduced as this super severe tyrant, but she ends up just being a good, yet strict coach because she really wants Yurio to succeed. It’s honestly just so wholesome! The music is so amazing and the ice skating is really realistic too! It really shows that they had an actual skating choreographer and worked off video of him performing. I love how realistic the whole show is like with lots of social media, youtube, instagram, etc. And it does a queer romance without it being a gimmick. It’s just a sports anime with a side plot of a romance but it just happens to be gay. And Kubo-sensei has stated that homophobia doesn’t exist at all in their world which makes me so happy. It’s honestly so queer and I adore how all three main characters are genderfucks a bit. I also love how realistically Yuuri’s anxiety and depression are portrayed. I relate so much to him, especially because mine exhibit in the exact same ways as his. It’s another one that inspires me to fight to be better and live the life I want to live.

4. OTGW - So charming. A perfect addition to the canon of New England fairy tales. The music is great, the animation is wonderful and nostalgic, the characters are fun and interesting and spooky. I love how liminal it is and you aren’t really sure where they are or what’s going on for the majority of the episodes. Greg is the most realistic depiction of a small child and the brothers’ relationship is the most realistic I think I’ve ever seen in my life lmao. He’s just so random and weird and has such Little Kid Logic I love it so much lmao. The story is perfectly contained in its 10 short episodes, and it gives a very satisfying ending. I still can’t get over how many huge stars were in it too?? Like fucking Tim Curry as Auntie Whispers???? I can not believe.

5. Inuyasha - I’m weeb trash and this show is also trash but I love it so much okay. As a big fan I hold so much against the anime for changing things from the manga, but even so I love it. Overall I think the animation, music, and voice acting is perfect. It’s so cool with all the mythos of youkai and the shikon jewel, plus I love traditional Japanese culture stuff. And isekai type stuff is my jam. If I found a portal to another world or to the past you bet your ass I’d go through it. I totally don’t still look for portals as a 30 year old adult, I don’t know what you’re talking about 😂 Kagome is such a great mc tbh like she’s so smart and strong and talented and kind I just love her so much??? I want to be more like her. And I love all the characters honestly. I have to overlook some questionable 90s anime tropes for certain ones, but I still love them. As much as we rag on the constant upgrades thing, the battles and stuff are pretty thrilling, and overall the series is good fun. And yes Sesshoumaru is my husbando, next question.

Honorable Mention: Doctor Who - I love how this show manages to be like every single genre?? SciFi, historical, comedy, thriller, mystery, slice of life, etc. I love all of the Doctors, and all of their companions. I just love how much the Doctor loves humans, and how much faith they have in humanity. And again it’s that whole isekai, time travel, normal modern human goes on magical adventures thing. I would go with the Doctor in a heartbeat. I still cry over Donna 😭
