Sooooo... I have this hc that Galvana left some blueprints of the Wubbox in the Ethereal Workshop from when she was making him, and when BeMeebEth got synthesized, they found them and got a lil obsessed with da wub. And then Wubbox found a path to the workshop after some events and the two just clicked well together and are kinda in a qpr. I wanna make a fix explaining my au but I can't write :(

HEY FOLKS DIDJA MISS ME. anyways here’s something I’ve been workin on for the past few weeks, some actual reference pics for the folks from these posts! I think it’s time they got a proper ref and lore post (it’s been, what, over a year since I made them?), soooooo :] buckle up. individual pics + bios under the cut; content warning for death, gore/body horror, unethical science and/or medical malpractice, I guess some minor mentions of self harm and emotional abuse… let’s just say they’ve been through a lot

CHIMERA

they/it - 23’5 - ~400 y/o - epic wubbox..?

Chimera can only be described as a true monstrosity among monsterkind. Its three components were unfortunately torn apart in an interdimensional travel accident, and in a desperate attempt to save them, their sibling Matrix decided to combine the three into one semi-intact body. Whether or not their efforts were successful is debatable; Chimera is highly physically unstable, and isn’t exactly all there mentally. It’s usually kept away from the eyes of the public, housed in the bowels of the Ethereal Island castle.

Resents Matrix for bringing them back, as they use this fact to control them. They insist that Chimera owes them their lives, and that they should be grateful, but constantly mistreats and neglects them.

Most of its original mechanical parts were damaged in the incident, so their body’s construction is supplemented by the body parts of other ethereal monsters.

EEKTO

The “primary” head, Eekto has the most control over Chimera’s body. It’s the only one who can see and hear clearly (though not by much…), so it serves as the collective’s eyes and mouth. Associated with the element of plasma, it now constantly leaks plasmic goop from its mouth, eyes, and neck joints, making it hard to speak without choking on its own saliva. The flame that engulfs its eyes grants Eekto enhanced vision in the dark, and allows it to detect things that aren’t visible to the average monster. In life, it was the oldest of the five siblings.

NOCK

The second most active head, what Nock lacks in hearing and sight it makes up for in chattiness. It’s the main mouth of the body, consuming large amounts of food at once in order to sustain all three of them. While usually relying on Eekto to be its eyes, it can also “see” by using its long, snake-like tongue to smell its surroundings, and is capable of picking up minor sound vibrations with the membranes of its Grumpyre wing “ears”. Nock’s demeanor is almost always disturbingly cheerful, and it seems to be in blissful denial of its current situation. It’s always happy to strike up a conversation with whatever monster happens to stumble upon them while lost in the castle- unless it’s Matrix, of course.

FRAKTAL

Fraktal, associated with the element of Crystal, was the worst fatality of the trio. Its head is basically all that remains of its original body, but even so, it’s in very bad shape. Frozen in a state of decay, it’s become a host to many crystalline growths that have covered its mangled face and “neck”. It is completely unresponsive to outside stimuli, and only ever moves when one of its other two siblings decides to move their shared body’s tail. The other two, however, act as if it is still alive somehow, treating and addressing it as such. Sometimes, though, one of the other heads may sense a signal from their tail; a faint, abstract thought that is not their own.

MATRIX

they/them - 11’1” - 431 y/o - rare wubbox

A self-proclaimed “genius” scientist, Matrix loves nothing more than to upgrade themself and others through body modification. Creating questionable prosthetics from miscellaneous materials, they kidnap and experiment on monsters against their will, leaving them mutilated at best, and in some cases, whatever unfortunate victim enters their lab never comes out. Matrix’s mission is to “improve” the lives of the Ethereal monsters, who they’ve proclaimed themself the leader of. They see other monsters as nothing more than test subjects who should be happy for the help they’re providing, falsely believing that their work will benefit monsterkind as a whole, and that anyone who opposes is simply ungrateful.

The first rare wubbox to ever exist, Matrix used their supernatural ability to create interdimensional rifts to access the human world. Inspired by what they saw, they rebuilt every part of themself in order to reflect that technological influence. Pleased by their transformation, they created copies of themself, which they distributed across the monster world; as such, nearly every rare wubbox is a clone of Matrix, with a few exceptions.

Using their aforementioned interdimensional abilities, they’ve shut off Ethereal Island from the rest of the monster world, preventing anyone other than themself from entering or leaving. Any Ethereal monsters who live on the Natural Islands are descended from ones who left their home island before Matrix and co’s arrival.

They were the one who rebuilt Chimera, and the perceived success of this operation is what inspired them to experiment on other monsters in an attempt to make them better than they were before. They also use this fact to keep Chimera under control, constantly reminding them that they literally owe them their lives.

Their extra set of tail-arms were assembled from parts leftover from Chimera’s creation. These arms are very flexible, and can extend and retract slightly, though they are not as strong as one may think. (Which means that unfortunately, Matrix can’t do the Doc Ock arm walk thingy.)

While Chimera’s components are affiliated with three of the Ethereal elements, Matrix is affiliated with the Mech element, and was taught the basics of engineering by one of their creators, a Vhamp named Khord. In the present day, they find Mech-element monsters the ideal subject to use for their projects.

ZYPHUR

it/its - 12’3” - 427 y/o - common wubbox

Scarred and damaged- not just physically but mentally- by the horrors it’s had to participate in, Zyphur is Matrix’s unwilling lab assistant. Serving as the brawn to its sibling’s brains, its main role is to gather subjects for Matrix to use in their experiments; it’s easily large and powerful enough to capture and restrain the other Ethereal monsters, but that doesn’t make the process any easier for all involved. Zyphur resents its job, and feels terrible forcing its captives to participate in the twisted whims of its older sibling, but it really doesn’t have a choice. It depends on them for food, shelter, and care, and feels obligated to help them due to familial ties. Despite this, Matrix constantly berates, mistreats, and manipulates it, keeping it as their own little lackey for whatever tasks they need done.

It was forced to help gather Chimera’s body parts immediately after the accident, and assisted Matrix in reassembling them. It was in a state of shock the entire time, still reeling from its own injuries, and begging its one remaining sibling for some semblance of comfort, which it never received. Before the accident, Matrix was often dismissive but still kind towards Zyphur, but this soon changed to pure disdain and superiority towards it in the aftermath.

Ended up the least scathed after the accident, with its most major injury being a severe head wound, practically ripping half its face apart. Despite Matrix’s efforts to repair it, this wound never healed properly, leaving a massive scar on one side of its mouth.

Associated with the Poison element, which is clearly visible in its eyes. Its major bodily fluids (notably tears, blood, and saliva) are tinted a vivid green and are somewhat acidic, leaving marks on whatever they touch. They are also toxic to other monsters and may cause skin damage or poisoning when exposed to them. In theory, Zyphur is capable of spitting jets of poison saliva as a defense mechanism, but tends to just let it passively drip out of its mouth.

Due to the extreme neglect, trauma, and isolation it’s had to endure, Zyphur is somewhat developmentally stunted, and behaves much younger than it is. When the Cataclysm and subsequent accident happened, it was mentally around 15 years old, and hasn’t emotionally progressed much since.

Most of the time, when its parts haven’t been repaired for a while, the edges of its gauntlet pieces are broken, with pieces of the prongs on the end often missing. This damage is self inflicted, fueled by Zyphur’s guilt towards the pain others have suffered because of it. It feels that Chimera’s components didn’t deserve to undergo such a horrible fate, and that it should have taken their place instead. Matrix simply sees this damage as the result of clumsiness, and often scolds it because of this.

Refuses to interact with Chimera- or any other monster, really- whenever it can help it; the feelings of guilt it holds about their situations are too painful to bear.

Very malnourished, and doesn’t get to eat real food very often. Its main diet consists of Matrix’s leftovers and whatever mutilated, “unusable” monster parts remain after their experiments.

ALVA

it/its - 13’5” - 433 y/o - common wubbox

A brilliant (albeit shut-in) scientist, Alva is the creator of Wublin Island and its denizens. When not looking after its “children” (the Wublins), it spends most of its time tinkering and experimenting with new ways to put the knowledge gained from its previous projects to good use. Between these two tasks, it’s almost always exhausted, and tends to overwork itself, refusing to sleep for days and putting its work and the needs of the Wublins before its own well-being. Despite this behavior, Alva is mostly satisfied with the life it’s built for itself.

One of the oldest living wubboxes from the Dawn of Fire, and one of the first to be created; it lived through the Cataclysm but doesn’t like to talk about its experience very much.

VERY bad at caring for itself in general; it doesn’t replace its parts as often as it should, causing itself chronic pain and fatigue. Alva tries to remedy this by occasionally using a shoddy cane it made for itself, but doesn’t do so often, insisting it’s fine- often while visibly having difficulty standing and walking.

Adores the Wublins and would do anything for them; though it’s quite exhausting caring for them all, it loves them very much, and tries its best to keep them happy. This also involves it hiding any sort of negative emotions or pain it feels in front of them, as it doesn’t want its children to worry about it.

Inherited the gift of the spark of life from its creator, a Galvana named Ivolta, who was the original inventor of the wubbox.

Typically doesn’t interact with the outside world much, but periodically allows airships from other islands to bring it supplies and monster eggs. It doesn’t like to leave the island, but may do so on rare occasions if its expertise is needed- namely, it was recently contacted by a team of monsters who want to use its statue-waking tech to reawaken the newly discovered Celestials.

Before the fall of Starhenge, Alva was Matrix’s best friend; the two were very close, bonding over their similar interests in robotics and bioengineering, and often collaborated on projects. However, after seeing how drastically different they are now and how harmful their “work” has become, it is disgusted by them, refusing to speak to them, despite their constant, oblivious attempts to befriend it again.

I have a headcanon that the Earth Wubbox stinks of a city car, exhaust and gasoline, and the Plant Wubbox is most sensitive to his smell. Although when he sleep or calm for a while, he smells of damp earth

I also saw some people's headcanons on the relationship between epic wubboxes and colossals, so here are some of mine about earth ones :D (I liked the idea, I wanted to write about it too)

The earth wub is crazy, hyperactive and very noisy, it is very difficult for other wubboxes to find a common language with him (if, of course, he talks at all...). But Sollum, on the contrary, is slow, silent, and thoughtful. He and the earth wubbox remind me of a kind of owner and his reckless cat, wich rushes around the house and demolishes everything in his path

Since I love the Wublin island so much. I might as well talk about my headcannons about the Wublins. You can’t stop me! I will try to remember what I came up with the others from before. Something will change.

First thing first, for what I’ve known the Wublin’s aren’t related to each other. Regardless I see them as like a group of friends that are weirdos. As for ages, the oldest would the first five wublins, Wubbox and Monculus. With that out of the let’s begin!

Brump: (He/Him) The most easygoing guy around, you need a hype man to pump you up? Brump’s your guy! He maybe gross to others but he couldn’t careless, he like the way he is. Plus he is blind, there’s that.

Zynth: (Any pronouns) Doesn’t talk a lot, even when they do it’s inaudible. Zynth uses the most electric out of all the others. Like bright lights and will stare at it until it turns off. It’s tail is always on and makes a good nightlight.

Poewk: (They/Them) A total mystery, no one knows what’s really under that mask. Never speaks, just stares at you. Until they tap in morse code. Loves to knit anything, mostly blankets. Both Poewk and Whajje are the closest to Sceemu and help with communication for Sceemu. Loves DnD but none of the other Wublins know how it’s played. They found out that some members of faerie island are fans of DnD.

Thwok: (He/Him) Looks classic but really a huge dork like the rest of the Wublins. A huge fan of classical music and jazz. Takes good care of his fur which is silky smooth. Due to having a long tongue, he can not talk clear, the tongue stays out and doesn’t go back in. Still has taste.

Dwumrohl: (He/Him) Having many arms, means he can hide a ton of things, mostly snacks. Great at tell stories especially for those who can’t sleep. Loves telling joke and yes, every punch line is ended with a ‘Ba dum tss’.

Zuuker: (He/They) They breath by inhaling from their nose and exhales out of their hole. Don’t stand next to them, he gives off a lot of heat. Secretly an art critic, but he will not be nice and will hurt your feelings. Has really bad allergies and if they sneeze too much fire will come out of their hole.

Screemu: (They/Them) Due to being deaf , they are oblivious to everything. Communication is very hard for them. You can write to them or sign to them. Beware they scream talk sometimes. Have to have someone babysit them, it’s usually Whajje or Poewk. Screemu’s actions/ behavior is creepy to others. But really just goofy. Loves making sculptures with clay, twigs and ribbons. Screemu is also very sensitive and will cry.

Tympa: (He/They) Heavy Metal and Rock fan, like Brump a hype man. However doesn’t think twice, he’s a ride or died friend. Great at playing soccer and likes watching other sports. Due to banning they’re eardrums, they have a constant ringing in their ears. It doesn’t hurt or bother them, just hard of hearing.

Dermit: (He/Him) Shy at first, but when he warms up. He becomes a fun guy to hang out. He’s skin condition is unknown but it’s a fungus. Luckily it is not contagious. To keep him from itchy skin, he has to have a strict skin care routine. Which he hurts doing it because it take so long.

Gheegur: (He/Him) Shy and quiet guy. Soft spoken, hates conflict with his friends. Which rarely happens. Like Thwok he a big listener to jazz. A hopeless romantic along with Whajje, the two watch a lot of romance movies/shows and get too into it. Writes poems about romance and gets embarrassed about it.

Whajje: (She/Her, Trans) The mom of the group, a total sweetheart to everyone. Love to bake. She can only says ‘Whajje’ and everyone understands her. Whenever the T.V is down, she’s the one who has to take place it’s place. During the start of spring and fall, her feathers will shed. Which gets bad and doesn’t help with her self conscience.

Creepuscule: (She/Her) She a hot cheetos girl, will fight for you if someone upsets you. Great at doing makeup and nail art. While doing either, it’s the perfect time to spill the tea to her. Has no content of time and bad at planning things. Like Brump, she’s love the way she looks and makes you feel beautiful too.

Blipsqueak: (It/Its) The smartest of the group, however it can only say either ‘Eyes,Ears,Nose,Toes’ which makes them sound stupid. The lasers are scanners, like a laser pointer please do not look directly into it! It can in fact smell, hear and feel things which it’s feet.

Scargo: (He/Him) He’s autistic, due to this the other have to make sure he’s not overwhelmed. Love to fidget with toys like Rubiks cube but mostly just happy to tap he’s hands on something. If he does get overwhelmed he’ll just hide in his shell and scream.

Astropod: (He/Him) The chills and cool bro around. His back shifted different shades of purple don’t stare at it too long or you’ll get dizzy and pass out. If you were to lick him (why would you, gross) but if you do, you will go on a color trip. Just ask Thwok. He’s little hands do work, just with a little help.

Pixoloti: (He/Him trans) Has ADHD, is a huge nerd. Video games, Movies, Comic, Anime, you name it, he’s a fan. He gets big zoomies, like a cat at 4am. He’s hands and feet are switch, he walks on his hands and everything else like grabbing with his feet. He’s whiskers are use to smell things, they will wiggle around to smell.

Bona-Petite: Bona(pink he/him) Petite(blue she/her) Petite is a chaotic little gremlin. Bona just puts up with it and doesn’t bat an eye. The two can not be separated for long or else Bona will fall apart. Love spooky things and anything horror. Petite has a potty mouth and now has a swear jab. Which gets filled monthly.

Maulch: (He/Him) Looks mean and scary, but really a soft guy and smell like fresh mulch. Love to just stop and smell the flowers. He likes to eat his own berries and doesn’t mind the taste. A man of few words. Is Nearsighted and refuses to were glasses for his bad eyesight.

Fleechwurm: (She/They) If you thought Petite was bad. Well, Fleechwurm is worse. She acts nice and innocent, but will turn on strangers and steal they’re stuff. Like gum and candy. The other have to carry them around and they don’t weight no more then a couple of grapes. However, she is only close and will never turn on Scargo.

The colossals, to me, are a bunch of people who focus on the big picture but end up skipping over important details. A big example is not thinking about how to make sure the continent exists forever and the argument that led to the end of the dawn of fire. They rely on the celestials to refine details of their work

Once they went into their slumber, they became a bit unstable with the fact they were constantly thinking despite being asleep. Currently they are trying to regain stability

They are eldritch beings and contacting them without proper preparations can lead you to madness

Their existence is based on faith, basically no worshippers = death

For them individually...

Grennitch- A serious one who loves nature. They look over the land with appreciation of the hard work of others

Frigil- So sooo sad. They are shy and clingy, as well as easily moved to tears. They try to act strong though

Zeffree- Machine liker. They like taking on big projects and showing them off to others, and enjoys teaching others too

Hyddryd- Adventurer. They hate staying in one place. They bring materials from the places they explore

Sollum- Doesn't exactly enjoy doing work, they rather do things solo. If they have to work then they'll work, well only after being forced to

Fire colossal- Sweet but also very strict, a bit too strict...

Zarroë- Just likes to be there. It grew an attachment to the prototype monsters so it decided to stay behind in the pocket dimension. Very creative and was close to galvana

For the epic wubs, here's something to note... the colossals weren't that good to them. It varies on which colossal, but they hurt the wubs

Plantie has very complicated feelings with Grennitch. It worships them but curses their name. It loves but hates them

Coldie was traumatized severely by Frigil. But frigil doesn't realize that and still tries to talk to it

Airie likes Zeffree because they're nice, but the colossal tends to accidentally push air to its limits

Waterie doesn't know what to think about Hyddryd, so it doesn't think anything about them. It doesn't like them all too much though

Earthie worships Sollum a lot and wishes they'll notice their efforts one day

I should mention, the gold island epic wubbox forgot who their colossal was

hot take (and spoilers) regarding part 2 of feast-ember (i genuinely can’t believe the monster handlers labeled it as “electric boogaloo”. i love them)

i was absolutely not expecting both epic wubboxes to come out at once, but it feels really appropriate. i love both their designs and songs VERY much.

however i have an issue with fire oasis now. the song is getting really cluttered. i think where rare wubbox plays is just fine, but epic? i think the song would’ve benefited from them playing in whaddle/cheruble’s verse with a bit of a softer vocal (kind of like in gold island) to fit the Vibes. instead they just mashed it together with the rare and called it a day. in other words, it’s air island all over again.

i don’t have any issues outside of this. absolutely LOVE epic buzzinga and rare knurv, just wasn’t expecting either of them to show before anyone else

YES! I would love to! Sorry for delayed response.. life happens. There's just.. so much to say about Arc. They are just...mmmmmm!!!! so blorbo!!!

Not only are they the funniest damn guy, they're a pseudo-mascot of the rp discord server I'm in!

They're!!! Like a big ol' lizard!! And my absolute dork.

There's also a running joke where if you say the word "arc" in any way, Arc will magically appear to say hello. Nobody is safe. But people love it!! And I love Arc's eccentric mad scientist nature.

Arc uses They/He pronouns, and while they prefer they/them, he/him is appropriate too if that is easier for the other person to refer to them as. They have a preference for they pronouns because it refers to both Ray and Spark! And while Arc finds great pleasure in individuality, they can't deny that the two other wubboxes are responsible for their existence at all.

As for their personality, they're very outgoing, adventurous, but still remain very welcoming and cheery. They can't stay in one place, and are constantly on the move. They want to know all there is to know about the observable universe, that being the main driver for their expeditions. Often they can absolutely explode with questions, asking too many at one time from pent-up excitement. Anyone that Arc has ever had interest in will know how little they understand personal bubbles.

Arc can absolutely flip on a dime, and are mildly unpredictable. Fortunately, they have the sensibilities of Spark, something that did not exist in the original rare wubbox, and is still exploring this part of themselves.

I've gone over this before, I think, but Arc is a wubbox fusion! The wubboxes involved are Ray and Spark, the two dorkiest wubboxes, and the two sides of Arc, like the right and left brain.

Spark is constantly anxious, incredibly sweet, and also the emotion and musical part of Arc's mind. He keeps the emotional connections to memories, but does not have the memories himself. He's very musically inclined, and can remember voices and songs.. but not names or faces. He only becomes stable enough to stand on his own when melded with Ray, and that's where his character really shines through. He always seems to be trembling like a newborn puppy, and only feels normal around Ray.

Ray, on the other hand, is logical, brash, and ever-curious about fucking everything ever. He gets himself in danger as a result, and can explode with questions. He has all the information, and is more than happy to tell you everything he knows, but he has no emotional attachments to any of them. Ray often feels very empty as a result, and where there would be other feelings are replaced with anger. He has quite the temperament, and can get angry when he doesn't get what he wants out of a inability to understand in the emotional sense.

Often when Arc is feeling absolutely fantastic, both sides actually lose individuality, but the worse they feel, the more separate. But it can be somewhat controlled, such as when Ray and Spark make calculated movements like dancing and running, they work in tandem. Although when they are asking questions, they work separately, Spark asking the questions Ray comes up with as he writes and observes. It should be assumed, but they can actively hear each other's thoughts at all times.. unless they get into an argument, then the separation begins to occur.

They love music with a passion, and are always listening to a song through their headphones! They actually have very sensitive hearing, and the headphones work to block out sound and to provide music for the Spark in him, who finds himself needing it sometimes when he gets too stressed out or when he needs a break, leaving Ray in control.

Ray and Spark both receive euphoria in this state as well, both receiving the lacking elements of the other. When necessary or wanted, though, they can take control individually as well of the body.

For example, Arc can write and participate in a conversation at the same time, the writing being Ray, and the expressing being Spark. Often times, Arc will use Ray's handwriting for notes since it is robotic and clean. Spark's handwriting is a fucking pain to read, but it is full of character, being very shaky and expressive. Arc never uses this one. But the two sides can work to make an in-between, which is both clean enough to read, yet still looks like genuine handwriting! This one is used for personal uses, such as writing journal entries about their day, or letters to others.

Not only this, but while it may seem as Spark is unstable, as is Ray, feelings of anger can split the two, not only sadness. And while disagreements are rare, they do happen. And so if both sides fight, then the two are individuals again.
