Haseul - Hara! They’re both very caring Mom Friends, amazing leaders, super talented, and just have very wise but fun energy.

ViVi - Okuda. They’re both sweethearts who have trouble expressing themselves at times. The cute but mature friends with common sense, but are still lots of fun. I can just SEE Okuda pulling a ViVi and getting fed up with her friends’ messiness and breaking all the dirty dishes lmfao.

Yves - Nakamura. I feel like I don’t have to explain much for this lmao. They both are the girl crush type with a very cool, flirty vibe. Two Miss-Steal-Your-Girls.

Jinsoul - Sugino! Blue color themes! And they both are the sweet “dumb” ones even though they’re totally geniuses. The ones who get lovably made fun of by their friend groups.

Kim Lip - Terasaka. They have low tolerance for bullshit, are pretty much Dads to their respective friends, won’t hesitate to shade you, and are pretty awesome leaders. They’re fun and have their moments of chaos, but they keep things together.

Chuu - Kurahashi ! They’re both adorable cuties with the sweetest smiles, laughs, and similar bubbly personalities. Super popular for their attitudes. Just the kindest souls with lovely voices.

Heejin - Gakushuu. They’re both all-rounded aces who excel at multiple things. They’re good at gaining attention and making themselves known. Also very popular for amazing visuals. Now please imagine Gakushuu covering ViViD.

Hyunjin - Chiba. They both can either be total professionals or complete crackheads. There is no in-between. Has the loudest best laughter. Can be very outgoing. Just a chaotic fun person to have around.

Gowon - Kanzaki. They both have very innocent, tiny, ethereal appearances so they decieve you. But they’re actually like the biggest crackheads. Constantly make random noises and laughs, they’re literally so funny. Looks like a princess, is actually a clown.

Choerry - Kayano. They’re both very bubbly moodmakers, always cheering up the others and maintaining their energy. Has moments of seriousness that surprise everyone.

Olivia Hye - Takebayashi. They’re both a lot more on the awkward side, but they have their own charms. They’re the ones who will subtly roast everyone around them. Very Tired.

Yeojin - Itona. They’re the babies of the group/class. Totally use that privilege to their advantage. Constantly roast everyone lmao. Aren’t super sensitive but still cute. Also they are very Short.

Rating Every Song On Blackpink's New Album

1. How You Like That - Love the instrumental in the chorus, I feel like the distirted kinda Lavender Town-esque notes really show how they're like snapping, they're at their limit. Also the "Look at you now look at me" part lives in my head rent free. 9.5/10. Docked half a point because it just kinda felt like any other Blackpink song for the most part.

2. Ice Cream - Simple but catchy, very different from their other stuff, I expected to dislike Selena in it but I feel like she really completed the song. However, I also have a lot of problems with it as well. Jisoo's ONE line?If it's unacceptable in a big group like Loona for Vivi to get only one line in a song, then it's horrible for Jisoo to get a singular line in a song with five singers. I also didn't really like all the innuendos of it. I have zero problem with the girls expressing their sexuality, I just personally dislike when cutesy things are made sexual. 7/10, it still slaps though.

3. Pretty Savage - I'm always slightly disappointed when a really good song is really explicit since that means I can't listen to it with my parents around, but I'll definitely be listening to this song on my own. I was hooked from the beginning, this song has such a "I'm a bad b*tch and you're gonna listen to what I say" vibe and I'm living for it. 9/10.

4. Bet You Wanna Ft. Cardi B - The Shakira reference, Cardi doing the intro, the vibe of the song, this song is just so good. Some collabs they do feel like the featured artist doesn't really fit with it, but Cardi B did fantastic and I wouldn't like this song without her. Rosé's vocals are making me feel like I've ascended too. It kinda gives me Ariana Grande vibes but like better. 10/10, nothing bad to say about it.

5. Lovesick Girls - Everything. Everything about this was perfection. It's so catchy, the music video is beautiful but so fun, the lyrics are really relatable to a lot of people, especially Blackpink's target demographic in my opinion. There isn't a single moment I don't enjoy. This song just makes me want to throw away any worries I've ever had and dance. As you can tell by my title thing right now, this song deserves SOTY. I love this song so much. I just. I'm sorry if this part doesn't make any sense, I iust love this song so much. 99999999999999999999/10.

6. Crazy Over You - I don't have much to say about this song. It didn't stick out to me at all. Probably my least favorite on the album, just didn't hit like the other songs did. It just felt kinda basic. Wasn't necessarily bad, just kinda the weakest link if the album in my opinion. 6/10.

7. Love To Hate Me - This. This is great. I was shocked by all the English on this album, and I definitely love this one. You can tell it's just a big f-you to their antis. It's so empowering. It kinda reminds me of In & Out by Red Velvet, but I think I honestly prefer this. 10/10.

8. You Never Know - Jisoo singing first was a really nice surprise. The rest of the song was also a pleasant song. It's just so sweet, but it's not like slow, but it isn't like intense, it's honestly like really comforting. I got like tiny chills listening to it. An amazing song to end out the album with.

This album overall? Amazing. Perfectly put together, almost every song just made me feel so happy and confident, and their talent shined through more than ever here.

the more i think about it, the less i think jaden jeong is a genius lol. i mean i already mostly stopped thinking that but like... like people say he’s responsible for scouting the members and putting them in units and stuff and we all love the units but.. we like the units especially because of their chemistry with each other as people, but if you’re looking at a pool of dozens of trainees and you want to choose twelve to arrange in three units with three different genre-scapes.. like... some of the choices are odd lol

we already knew that a lot of the predebut process was made up as it went, and we know that not all 12 members were selected ahead of time. like even by the time of at least yves and chuu debuting, olivia hye wasn’t even there yet. when she said that she was a trainee for one day, that doesnt mean she only practiced for a day with no prior experience and nailed it immediately, that just means that she was only an official blockberry trainee for a day, and even that is kind of obscuring the truth lol. it just means that blockberry was panicking trying to find someone to be the twelfth girl and none of their existing trainees were cutting it, apparently, so they scouted this member and took a chance on her. it’s not like they hired her normally and said “actually you’re ready to debut right now, let’s do that”, it’s probably that they were looking for someone who was already ready, and the reason it took a day is cause they had to take the teaser photos and get her ready and stuff lol. 

anyway that begs the question... why didnt bbc have that figured out in advance? we love olivia hye so it definitely worked out, but you know... what if it hadnt? why didnt they use any of the trainees that we know they had during the 1/3 and OEC debut eras... 

we know some members were there for a while before they debuted. jinsoul was there, and also choerry was a blurred trainee when heejin was in a loonatv covering let it go (i think? or was it haseul covering vivid? lmao idr). we all are pretty sure that yeojin was intended for 1/3 and vivi was intended for OEC, but they had to rearrange things at the last moment, leading to vivi debuting with 1/3 before her solo song, and yeojin not ending up in a unit at all (though she’s been taken in by OEC and if loona ever returns to subunit comebacks i really hope frog eye circle is a thing). but also like... was choerry a candidate for 1/3? love cherry motion was definitely written with her in mind since it plays on her stage name, but she was there well before OEC, she’s one of the trainees who was with bbc the longest, around the same time that haseul joined but after heejin and hyunjin i think. was love cherry motion originally just the upbeat pop parts and didnt have that OEC drop, and they had to rework the song once it was decided she would be a part of that instead of 1/3? 

and like none of the yyxy members were there for any 1/3 or OEC era stuff, cause if they were, wouldnt yves have been chosen for OEC? i mean come on, it’s a no-brainer lol... and if chuu was there, wouldnt you have wanted to pair her and lip together just like 2jin, to highlight their friendship? 

i think things worked out, and i wouldnt change any of the units now, except for adding yeojin to OEC lol. i’d be okay with new additional units with new names, but as for these specific units, i wouldnt want to change them. but the vibe they have due to having the members that they do is probably different than what bbc had in mind. OEC is lighter with the presence of choerry (and yeojin lol, cause like when they break up into groups of four for things like vlives, of course yeojin’s with them. she’s in the same room as them too), yyxy is darker with the presence of yves, yyxy is calmer and more mature with the presence of vivi.... 

like if 1/3 was heejin hyunjin haseul and yeojin then they’d be more quirky than sensitive, even with around you and let me in in their discography. but with vivi and haseul together, their vibe becomes the dominant vibe of the unit, i think. 

when lip jinsoul choerry and yeojin are together, the vibe is chaotic and rowdy mostly due to choerry and yeojin bringing out the weird side of jinsoul haha, but if they were lip jinsoul vivi and choerry, possibly yves too somewhere, then the mature dance music side of the unit would be highlighted more, and seeing them together would be a little less energetic and more... cool 😎

when yyxy are all together, the vibe is actually the most chaotic, cause they all both have nothing in common with each other and also somehow sooooo much in common with each other. both things are true. i hate these dorks lol. i love them. i cant say who could have been in the unit instead though... because like, since all of them were brought on later, like, we dont know the other bbc trainees who were considered for it initially. i think the vibe they were going for with the solo songs could be highlighted well by a member like jinsoul (with her actual personality, her goofy quirky personality instead of the badass thing they had her do in OEC lol... i’m talking about black-hair jinsoul not blonde jinsoul haha), but i dont really know. 

again, to reiterate, i love the vibes that the units currently have. i just think its funny that this probably wasnt what jaden had in mind, and it didnt go according to his plan. it’s better this way though! i really hope there are subunit comebacks one day, with music and concepts made by people who really get what each unit is like now that we’ve been with them for a long time. an OEC comeback that captures the fun of their personalities, like girl front but multiplied by ten. a 1/3 comeback that maybe delves a little more into their serious sides, more like sonatine than love&live i suppose, but with the mood of a sweet crazy love or something. for yyxy i would kinda want something like so what, actually haha. something noisy and dense, and charismatic too. chuu can handle that, lol. i think all the members were able to fit their solo song and unit songs well, theyre very talented, but for some of them maybe its not where they would have shined the most, you know? maybe something made more with them specifically in mind would sound different from their predebut solo/unit songs, but sound even better because of it. you know? i hope so anyway

personally, it took me a few listens before finally liking it. but it didn’t take that long before it hooked me on. it reminds me a lot of an anime opening. my favorite part is when the music stops and yuju sings the chorus, when i first heard that on their comeback stage, it gave me chills

the music video was!! amazing!! i love how it gave a movie type of feeling. i’m still new to gfriend so... but overall, the music video is really nice and it made me feel things

gfriend is also known for their choreography, and they never disappoint. i really like the choreography and how it would sometimes split to a few members on the stage then all members.

i really really like the presence umji gave out during this era, something about her kept drawing my attention towards her every time I watched their stage.

the b-sides could all be title track worthy tbh. they’re vocals are all amazing.

i also love how they gave onda outfits that stood out more, like for example the white outfits, onda was all in silver; or the red outfits where everyone wore red and black while onda was in a more different pattern

i didn’t mind that they re-used the outfits but in different colour, I thought it was way better than adios era where everyone wore the same outfits, at least this era the designs for everyone were different

ALBUM SONGS

my personal favorite is definitely “no lie”, I just wished they would promote it more than “salute”. but I felt blessed that they actually performed “no lie”, and the choreography was amazing.

yet onda and yiren really suited the “salute” concept

i personally think that the line distribution is lazy, for example “no lie” and “player”, mia is singing the chorus over and over again. it’s like the producer made her record the chorus part then just used it for the entire song and not ask a different member to record the 2nd chorus.

OVERALL

overall, I really like this comeback. my only complain is that I wish the line distribution was fairer. it’s unfair to all members, including mia. I hope that she isn’t feeling overworked because of having to sing so many lines while doing the dance break as well.

I really like this concept on LOONA!!! i know it might seem like what other groups are doing, but this type of concept really suits them

overall, this comeback is really catchy, like it’s so easy for it to get stuck in your head. elly definitely slays this comeback, she’s literally shining. yoojung’s and lua’s rap parts are also a score. i just wished lua would’ve gotten a bit more lines.

the boyz - bloom bloom (the choreo is soooooo good. bg’s don’t do cute as much but they really should!!! the boyz proved that cute songs can have complex choreo with this one. i really think the choreographer laced it with crack it’s really sososo good)

1team - vibe (cute chill bop of the century what can i say. if any bg just made this their entire concept i would stan forever)

golden child - wannabe (idk it’s just a bop. i was forced to do a dance cover of their song lady which i hated but grew to hate even more so the fact that wannabe snapped so hard was honestly shockingly delightful)

wayv’s awaken the world album (i mean i stan them but. i didn’t expect their first full album to be That good)

nature - girls (with nature i really just experienced wanting to like their songs but not, so it was really cool that this was my #1 gg song of 2020 for so long (it’s since been unseated for #3 BUT it’s still fantastic)

red velvet - psycho, bad boy, and power up (queens of interesting and unique concepts but these ones just felt very...easy for them? like they weren’t as special as almost all of their other songs to me? this is just me but i prefer when groups experiment and you get a ~controversial~ song rather than them just doing something basic that’s easy for the gp? like i respect it as a strategy but rv has proved time and time again that they’re better than that so i was pretty disappointed in these songs. full disclosure i still listen to bad boy sometime though lmao)

seventeen - fear/ an ode/247 ( i’ve talked about this at length before but seventeen is my favorite bright concept boy group because they manage to do it without it being overly cute and nauseating. their choreo quality also doesn’t change at all and i find that to be really refreshing. fear isn’t my style at all but mostly i just didn’t want fear from svt? like they did super well with it i just don’t know that i would say it plays to their strengths. also, the whole album was kinda disappoint for me but the most disappointing part was that performance team did a ballad. like i understand them wanting to show their other talents and i commend them but. i wanted a dancey thot bop. on the bright side we did get network love which saved this album for me personally.)

ab6ix’s album B:COMPLETE ( i love ab6ix’s title tracks sm but i hate this album with everything in me. like literally the maddest i’ve ever been at an album)

onlyoneof - heartbreak theatre (it’s produced by cha cha malone and you can tell he gave them something from the trash pile. ooo do all these cute videos with their producers where they vlog the process and the pd talks about their thought process in creating the songs and about the boys and it’s really really nice to hear their perspective but cha cha is the only one who didn’t film one and you can literally hear why in the song. it’s so obvious that he didn’t really try to understand their sound and it’s their only song that actively takes away from their discography.)

i get why they released svt jun & minghao’s my i was released in korean first but the chinese version has more ~sentimental value~ to me idk

exo’s chinese songs in general hit. like i don’t understand chinese so i can’t comment from that perspective but based solely on sound they don’t sound awkward and translated like a lot of other alt language releases? like i feel with many songs you can tell that it wasn’t written in the alt language but i don’t really get that feeling with exo’s stuff (and the rest on this list)

wayv/nct’s song comeback is better in mandarin but i’m hella biased so

Loona Reaction to Their S/O Choreographing One of Their Dances

Heejin:

Heejin is known for really practising to no end, she’s always in the studio. So when you walked into BBC and saw your girlfriend practising a dance routine, you ended up getting her opinions and help with the choreography so you could suit it well towards Loona’s dance style. Heejin sat at the edge of the studio and watched you work, mesmerized by the way you managed to put the perfect moves together to create a flawless choreography. She gave you water and snacks when you needed them, and made sure to cuddle you and tell you how good you were doing during your breaks in between dancing uwu

Hyunjin:

Hyunjin ended up turning the whole thing into a competition, fighting to be the next dancer in the practice room. It was all a joke and you both knew it, but Hyunjin could never stand to lose. She’d tease you about your skills every time you’d dance, just as she did about everything else. It was Hyunjin’s way of showing you that she loved you, and it always made you laugh. After staying late one night, only you and Hyunjin were left in the studio. She got serious for a few minutes, thanking you for all the hard work you put in for her and her members, before thanking you properly with a long kiss that left you both grinning like idiots.

Haseul:

Haseul would look up to your dancing skills so much, especially now you were choreographing for her and her beloved members. She always used to ask you for help with her dances before, and now she had an even better excuse to. Haseul asked so many questions and was so curious about your choreographing process, she always admired your talent to make the dances fit so perfectly with the music and for so many members, she knew this time around would be a challenge. Haseul would endlessly compliment you, reminding you of how talented you were. Getting through the tough job was easy with your girlfriend’s endless support.

Yeojin:

Yeojin would be so playful with you, bursting into the studio where you were working just to switch on some upbeat song and jump around with you. She’d tease you lots while you were teaching the girls, and the other’s would find your relationship so adorable. No matter how goofy she was with you though, she knew how much work you’d put in and she made sure you knew how much she appreciates everything you do for her. Yeojin would tell you all this while out on an ice cream date, trying hard to cover her blush as she finally properly opened up to you.

Vivi:

Vivi would make sure she paid extra special attention when you were teaching the girls the dance. She wanted to really impress you with her dancing, so she worked harder than ever. Vivi knew how much time and effort you’d put into creating this beautiful choreography for her group, so she wanted to do it justice. She’d stay later, dancing and dancing until she practically dragged herself back up to her room. The end results were worth it for Vivi though; the proud look on your face as she hit every beat made her heart flutter to no end.

Kim Lip:

Kim Lip would do her best just to see her as your choreographer when you were teaching the dance, because she knew she would never learn anything otherwise. It was the late night dance practices with just the two of you where she really had her phone. She’d tease the hell out of you, wearing clothes that hugged her figure as she danced intricately. Every time she caught you staring at her in the mirror she’d tease you more until both of you couldn’t take it. You’d race out to your car, driving the both of you home so you could continue your fun with each other properly ;))))

Jinsoul:

Jinsoul would honestly be so giddy and whipped the whole time. Her members would notice how her standard of dancing had dropped; they realized soon enough that it was because she couldn’t think straight around you (literally lmao). She’d smile like an idiot every time you talked to her and she’d be beaming every time you had to pull her close to you and help her out with a move. When she got more used to it, she’d be back to her goofy self, but she still never got quite used to the paradise that was seeing you every single day without having to take that painstaking time away from each other while Jinsoul was busy with schedules.

Choerry:

Choerry already knew you were coming in to choreograph a dance for Loona because you asked her for her opinion on her group’s dance style; you wanted the dance to be perfect for your 12 favourite girls. Choerry ended up coming into the studio with you, helping you choreograph each step, helping one another out and creating a dance that was one of the best you’ve ever done. Both you and Choerry were good choreographers, but together you always worked better, both on and off the dance floor.

Yves:

Yves would make your life practically impossible while you were working as a choreographer for Loona. She’d ask you for private lessons, even though she was already nailing the dance just so she could show off and get you all flustered. She’d be all like ‘hey Y/N, am I doing this right?’, knowing full well that she’d aced the move. Yves just wanted you to watch her dance, especially when it was a sexier choreography than usual, and it was her speciality. She’d often pull you closer so you could show her the moves properly, waiting for her moment to catch you off guard with a deep kiss.

Chuu:

Chuu would run into the dorms, telling all the girls that you were the mystery person choreographing their next dance. The girls jumped for joy with Chuu, because they knew so much about you because you were all she ever talked about. Chuu always bragged about how talented you were, so now they were going to see it firsthand. Chuu would be so excited to start learning the choreography, admiring the way you taught the girls the dance and drooling over you every time you added in a sexier move. The only problem with this one is that Chuu might just get too distracted by you to actually learn the dance lmao

Gowon:

Every time she’d perfect a move and you’d congratulate her, she’d jump around with a little ‘Asaaa’ that left a big grin on your face. Gowon couldn’t help but notice how you couldn’t take your eyes off her in the mirror, and she teased you endlessly about it when you got home later that day. She’d work extra hard to keep getting praise from you, and she wanted to show you that your hard work was being appreciated. Gowon would be the one that stuck out on all the performances this era, and you were just so proud of her.

Olivia Hye:

The whole situation would make Hyejoo super duper shy. She could never hide the deep shade of red that her face turned whenever you did something sweet, and it didn’t help when the members kept gushing over the two of you. After you complimented her dancing skills and called her Oli, the nickname only you used, she was fit to pass out with the shyness. It’s not that she didn’t enjoy it, Olivia Hye was just too whipped to really express her emotions, so she just stuck to getting flustered as hell instead.

15 Underrated Girly Kpop Songs That Make Me Go Absolutely Feral

When it comes to girl groups, more than anything I am a Blackjack and Blink. I like to listen to girl songs that make me want to murder men (and believe me, that blog post is in the works). But I’m also a ONCE, as TWICE are my sweet darling babies, but they’re about as girly as I can tolerate. I’m not one for the super girly concepts. I mean, did you guys ever see MINX? Occasionally I ironically jam to Shakey Love Shakey Shakey Shakey Shakey Love, but it was an absolute blessing from the K-pop gods to rebrand them as Dreamcatcher. It’s really only the A-list girly songs I tolerate, like GFriend or Oh My Girl. Everything else below them just seems really cringy.

Except for a few chosen few that are so good that they make me absolutely lose all of my shits. And I’m talking about songs that nobody seems to know like at all. Either these songs came out when the groups were still under the radar, before they had their big smash hits, or they just never seemed to rise to the top. But they are still valid and important. Videos are linked in the song names, since Tumblr won’t let me add more than five videos, but here we go.

15. April- Dream Candy

April is one of those rare groups that pull off the girly concept so well but don’t ever seem forced, like they are just truly naturally sweet and pure and precious. Honestly all of their songs are great, and it’s tragic that they haven’t had a comeback in 2019. But their debut, Dream Candy, is the one that really gets deep in my soul to that animal part of my brain that makes me scream this god damn chorus. But only really at the end. I never really listened to this song until it came on shuffle one day when I was walking home in the rain, and thought, why not listen to this awkward girly song, and then the last chorus hit and OH MY GOD. It’s a good one guys.

14. Momoland- Jjan! Koong! Kwang!

So this song comes out by some unknown group called uh, Momoland?, with a title that is just a bunch of sounds that don’t exist in English, and I felt like I was the only one on Earth that was like, “This is fine.” I was honestly in some I Am Legend universe where instead of me being the only living person on Earth, I was the only one that liked Momoland’s debut. As time went on Momoland started putting out what is pretty much some of the worst K-Pop that exists (I mean, have you SEEN the video for Wonderful Love? Try not to cringe challenge) and sadly enough this group just faded into obscurity and never had any huge, Earth shattering hits or anything. 

13. DIA- My Friend’s Boyfriend

On paper this song is awful. I mean it’s a song about being a petty bitch who has decided to steal their friend’s boyfriend, hence the title. Also the song ads cute little quirks like *squints eyes to read this metaphorical paper closer* coughing. Also the video has an unnecessarily long intro. But believe me when I tell you that this is an absolute slapper.

12. Gugudan- Wonderland

It’s a crime that Gugudan has never really hit it off, even with two I.O.I members. Their debut has this amazing Little Mermaid concept and believe me when I tell you that this chorus is best when screamed at the top of your lungs. After all the screaming I am basically in a manic state by the la la la’s.

11. LOONA 1/3- Love&Live

You’ll notice that the main theme of this list is that the choruses are absolute fire. But this one comes in and basically knocks the wind out of me with sweetness, like some kind of aegyo Kool-Aid man. It’s really the music that does it for me in this one, along with the melody, along with Heejin’s perfect high note. If this song doesn’t make you smile then you are a robot, like ViVi. 

10. Shannon Williams- Why Why

If Ant and/or Dec were here, they would hear this song and definitely say that Britain’s Got Talent. Shannon is the British IU,hands down, undeniably, I will not be taking questions at this time. But it’s very sad that her career was nonexistent after this came out. Was it the fact that this features a sixteen-year-old grinding against faceless boys? Or that this video widely revolves around her intensely stalking someone? It can’t be the song because that is perfect. 

9. AOA- Bingle Bangle

Okay so some history for those non-Elvises out there. AOA was THE HOTTEST girl group for a good minute, with so many timeless collaborations with the Brave Brothers that really changed the shape of female K-Pop for a while. And then ChoA left the group. And without the only member who could actually sing the face of the group, AOA kind of went quiet, save for a few Jimin solo songs. Then AOA came back with a new sound, and while everyone else thought it was terrible, I thought it was a bop! And I love the video and the concept! And the dance for this is so fun. Bingle Bangle is a real yes for me dawg. It’s only too bad that they lost yet another member and their concept was handed off to FNC’s new girl group. Speaking of which...

8. Cherry Bullet- Really Really

Yeah so they literally gave this entire “girls in a video game but it’s fun and cute” concept to Cherry Bullet, and they hit the ground running with it. This comeback in particular is my favorite of theirs because it hits one of my favorite pop music tropes: Having A Funky Instrumental Chorus, Only At The End To Put Words Over The Music. It ticks all my boxes.

7. Rainbow- Whoo

If you ever wanted to hear a song that made you scream “RAAAAIIINBOOW AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!” then this is it. At this point in this list we start to hear the songs that make me truly insane, and this song absolutely destroys me. It’s really sad, however, that this is basically Rainbow’s swan song, as it was their last song before disbandment. 

6. Matilda- Macarena

I bet you haven’t even HEARD of Matilda. I bet you didn’t even KNOW that MATILDA just DISBANDED a FEW MONTHS AGO because ALL THEIR SONGS WERE BAD except for THIS ONE which is just full of CHAOTIC GOOD ENERGY and if you don’t ENJOY THIS then GET OFF MY LAWN. 

5. Berry Good- Angel

Berry Good was destined to be one of those girl groups, like Matilda, that came from a tiny company and was just given bad songs and were set up to fail. So they crowdfunded, and somehow made two incredible comebacks, Don’t Believe (which is a whole other story that we won’t get into today, but it’s an amazing song that you should check out) and prior to that, Angel. I don’t even know where to begin with this song because it literally makes me forget who I am and why I exist. It’s a banger?? This song starts off so soft and pure and jumps right into a chorus that makes you bang your head and scream “I TAKE A CHANCE, YOU NEVER KNOW” as loud as possible. And right when you think you can’t take it anymore, that you are gasping for air because you are drowning in perfection, THEY GO EVEN HARDER. Like, girls, you did not need to go that hard. Holy shit. They go full IU in Good Day. I don’t know why we were blessed with this, especially since after this all their other songs have been garbage, and they’ve been so unsuccessful that they lost their strongest member and they’re heading for disbandment. But we have this gem, and I’m thankful for it.

4. 4Minute- Heart To Heart

Back when 4Minute was just another 2NE1 clone, trying to compete in the market of “Girls Who Look Tough But Are Actually Sweet” 4Minute, aka The HyunA Group, put out this. Third Geners, this is what Second Gen was all about. This is the meaning of Christmas, Charlie Brown. This song is everything. It’s perfect. And it’s too bad that 4Minute didn’t really stick with this sound, but also not, since with their more mature concept they wound up getting pretty famous once Park Bom... I mean, we’re not gonna talk about it. 

3. Hyolyn- Bae

Okay so I know that Hyolyn as an entity is not technically considered underrated, but her entire solo career is being slept on and I don’t understand. With Sistar gone, and now Red Velvet carrying the torch for summer anthems, Hyolyn doesn’t necessarily have to give us one of the best summer songs of all time but she did. Every second of this song to me is perfect. And yeah okay I’ll admit it, I am a Gay, I am attracted to women, and Hyolyn is a lot of. A lot of wow. She and HyunA are exactly my type, and this video is a lot. But the SONG you guys. It’s so much that I told even regular people who listen to English music to listen to this song. They didn’t, of course, because the world doesn’t appreciate Hyolyn like I would, I mean like I do as a fan and nothing else. This song was my summer anthem in 2018, Power Up wishes it was this good.

2. BESTie- Thank U Very Much

One of the things that really got me into K-Pop during the Second Gen was that it sounded so much like pop music from my youth. This is gonna sound weird, but I grew up in a Wiccan Neo-Pagan household where 90% of the music we listened to was traditional Celtic or New Age, and if it was ever anything else it was like The Beatles (my Mom and her sisters were one of those screaming and fainting Beatles fans, the trait that was clearly passed down to me, based on what happened when I saw G-Dragon live, but that’s another story) or ABBA, or any kind of British/European pop/rock from the 70s or 80s. So once I was old enough to really find out what kind of music I liked, I dived deep into cheesy pop songs like S Club 7, Britney Spears, and the like. But I always had a soft spot for ABBA. The melodies, the music, the strange lyrics that didn’t really make sense or weren’t quite grammatically correct but it worked. I feel like that love for obscure pop, along with the 90s and early 2000s bubblegum pop, pushed me right into the K-Pop scene. And this song is the best example of that kind of weird melody with oddly used English words, but it works in the best way. The chorus of this song sounds like it was written by ABBA. The ending of this song is transcendent. Tell me you can’t picture a Korean Meryl Streep in overalls singing the ending of this song while dancing on a beach. This song makes me lose all my shits. But I do have to say that this video is uh, Not Good, especially compared with how amazing the song is. But these underrated bottom of the barrel groups don’t have much to work with in the first place, so we can’t really fault them. This song holds up, and is going to hold up for a very long time. I stan.

1. Laboum- Shooting Love

So like I said before, I don’t typically like the super sugary, super tacky, super girly girl concepts. BUT I LOVE LABOUM. ALL their girly sweet songs are AMAZING. They somehow get everything right, in their own unique way. They’re not at all like “Oh, they’re like GFriend”, “Oh, that’s like Lovelyz” or anything, if you get what I’m saying. Laboum had their own cheesy yet perfect style of girly. Aalow Aalow: A CLASSIC. Journey To Atlantis: A CLASSIC. Hwi Hwi: A CLASSIC. Only U: YES YOU GUESS IT, CLASSIC. Sugar Sugar: DON’T MAKE ME SAY IT AGAIN. I could have made this whole list with just Laboum songs. So I made myself pick one by listening to as many old Laboum songs as I could before I would become an absolutely menace to society, as I am not responsible for my actions after listening to so much girly perfectlon at once. If I was arrested and went to court for I dunno, causing distress and mayhem to the citizens of my city, my lawyer would call it “the Laboum defense.” “You see, Your Honor, my client listened to a lot of Laboum songs, and lost control of themselves and became an entity, a ball of energy, a comet destroying everything in its path while screaming cheesy Korean lyrics.” And I would be set free, of course, because who wouldn’t lose themselves completely to the power of Laboum? But anyway I picked Shooting Love, as it puts me in a manic state from the very intro until the last second. And let me just say now that I deeply mourn this old Laboum, as they came back in 2018 with a new concept that makes them sound lobotomized compared to their old sound. Like slow R&B is fine, but compared to this it’s drab and slow and dull and I hate it. I Hate It. Bring back cute Laboum in 2020, or at least study Apink if you want to see how to properly change an aging cute group into a mature group. I could go on, but now I have the urge to listen to more Laboum. You’ll see me on the evening news tonight, I’m sure.

[INTERVIEW] LOONA for the 10Star Magazine cover story (May issue) by 10Asia

The concept of the photoshoot is ‘girls in a fairy tale’. We often dream of being the protagonist as we read fairy tales as kids. Is there a particular character you wanted to be, or liked? HeeJin: “I wanted to be Jasmine from Aladdin. Maybe it’s because I learned belly dance as a kid, but Jasmine was so pretty to me. I wanted to try her clothes and her hairstyle.” HyunJin: “Snow White. I could have fun playing with the dwarves and meet a handsome prince too. And experience coming back from death. (Laughs) I like challenging myself on new things, and I wanted to become Snow White and experience lots of extraordinary things.” HaSeul: “Beauty and the Beast for me. But not Belle, I empathize more with the Beast. Watching it as a kid, of course the beautiful Belle was the protagonist, but rewatching it after growing up a little, I could see the Beast’s perspective. I felt sorry for him, and could empathize with the Beast being tender on the inside but pretending to be tough on the outside.” ViVi: “Not a fairy tale, but the Little Mermaid from the Disney film. Ariel is admirable for setting out for love and her dream. I like that feeling of freedom.” Yves: “Little Mermaid for me too. My aunt owned a video rental store and she would show me The Little Mermaid every day. It was so pretty seeing her swim with her fins, red hair waving in the water, and I would copy it all the time. I remember pretending I had fins.” Olivia Hye: “Mulan for me. She’s so awesome. She has a different feel from the other princesses and I like her because she’s brave and gallant and strong.” Yeojin: “Thumbelina. I’m small and so is she so I think it’s a good fit. And the Frog Prince too, even though that wasn’t exactly what I wanted to be. I just have a soft spot because my symbolic animal is the frog. LOONA has three units and one solo unit. […] Could you boast about the concept of each unit? Yves: “LOONA yyxy feels like a bouncy girl. Fresh and unique. Each member has a symbolic emotion. I’m faith, Chuu is love, Go Won is hope and Olivia Hye is anger. Those emotions come together to form youth. So I want to call LOONA yyxy a shining youth.” HaSeul: “Loona 1/3 is a unit of innocence. HeeJin, HyunJin, HaSeul, and ViVi express the freshness of first love. Our unit song is ‘Love&Live’, and it’s a song that confesses wanting to meet someone after hiding our feelings for a while. I’m sure that whenever you listen to this song, you’ll feel nostalgic and soft.” Kim Lip: “LOONA ODD EYE CIRCLE is a sexy and powerful unit. We had a girl crush concept unlike the innocence of the full group, so we left an intense impression when ODD EYE CIRCLE first appeared. We’re different right from the gaze and atmosphere. (Laughs)” YeoJin: “I’m in a solo unit. Our label actually told me that ‘Yeojin, you are the hidden card of LOONA!’ I’m not sure, but I think they trusted that I will be able to do well on my own. I’m a little insecure because I didn’t train for very long, so I do extra practice on my own without the unnies. But I think I’ve grown for sure compared to when I started, because HeeJin unnie and Choerry unnie helped me a lot.” There are many members, so there must be someone with a unique nickname. Could anyone say that my nickname is the most unique? HeeJin: “Me. The fans call me Dangun because I was the first member to be revealed. With this name they’re saying that I was the one who made LOONA. It’s a really meaningful nickname and I love it, so I always say Dangun Heejin when introducing myself.” Yves: “My nickname is the Soft Jaguar. My solo song had an elegant and chic concept so our label gave me the swan, but fans said I have charisma like a jaguar on the stage but have a soft side off of it, so they gave me this nickname.” Chuu: “I’m a gang-ur-jwee. Not a gang-ah-ji (‘puppy’), you have to roll your tongue like this. Isn’t it cute and unique?” Go Won: “I have one that’s more of a good fit than unique. I’m the ASMR of LOONA. People say my voice has a bright feel, and fans say it’s like a fairy voice, so I think ASMR is a good fit. Like a comfy voice you could fall asleep to. I think it’s addictive.” You recently finished promos for your second promoted track, “Butterfly”. You had good results, getting to first place candidates on music shows, and the music video breaking 20 million views. It must be a special feeling. HyunJin: “It was short so I feel unsatisfied, but also content that we had awesome promotions. The ‘Butterfly’ choreo doesn’t have spots for resting. I’d never practiced so much in my life. I think the good results might have been due to the hard preparations. We’ll show you more growth next time, prepping even harder. And I’ll hope expectantly for first place too.” Chuu: “For this album we practiced all night and into the morning. It would have been easy for members to get on edge, but we understood and cared for each other so it made our teamwork even more solid. There were lots of funny moments too, taking care of each other’s meals and waking each other up. Even apart from the results, I think this promo built a lot of good memories.” JinSoul: “Not only did we get better results than ‘Hi High’, but I’m proud that we were able to really feel our growth. The members practiced so much leading up to the comeback. We grew closer and also our skills grew a lot. There’s also this confidence that we’ll be able to show even more based on the experience from this time.” “Butterfly” got attention for beautiful formations and a dynamic yet gentle performance. Especially the jumping move. Go Won: “I was the one in the jump part. I get scared easily, so when I first climbed on the members I couldn’t even stand and would just tremble. But Olivia Hye and Yves [unnie] told me ‘Don’t worry, we will never drop you’. So we trusted in each other and I got up there to do the choreo.” Olivia Hye: “I could feel Go Won unnie shaking up there. On some days she would go up comfortably, but shake on other days. So I did the performances nervous every day. I got nerves no matter how much I practiced, but now that it’s over it’s all good. (Laughs) I also have good memories from her trying out lots of shoes to find one that doesn’t hurt when stepped on, since we wear boots.” Even in this short interview we can feel LOONA’s charms. What’s the team’s charm, according to the members? HeeJin: “I can confidently say that we have charms in twelve colours for twelve people. Every member has a different charm. Some of us feel next-door, others are sharp. We’re also down-to-earth unlike what you might expect out of the girls. We each debuted with solo songs through the LOONA project, and they all have different concepts and charms. Oh, and LOONA is also tops in terms of handling different concepts. (Laughs)” ViVi: “I think LOONA is most beautiful when all twelve are in the same picture. Each member is different, but in the full group we become pretty and innocent.” Yves: “Mystery. LOONA’s music videos contain our narrative/universe. So that leads fans to predict different theories through them. Even for us, it’s fun to piece things together like, ‘Was this the meaning of what we filmed?’ If the videos were just pretty to look at it might be a little boring, but I think this makes them interesting.” HaSeul: “The pretty and lovely LOONA members are themselves the charm. I’m proud that I’m part of LOONA, and I’m proud of our members. I look at the photos and videos of the members often, and every time they’re so pretty and bright. They tell me I have Dal-bushim (‘LOONA pride’), but even beyond that I think LOONA has a wholesomeness that makes you feel good.” Could you name a reason to fall for you? Chuu: “I have the charm of making you happy. Your happiness index will go up when you look at me. Fans also tell me that looking at my videos or photos makes them feel warm, like in sunlight.” Yves: “You’ll fall for my chameleon-like charms. A lot of people see my calm side, but I can dance hip-hop intensely, or mesmerize you to a sexy song. I’m adorable when doing aegyo and can immerse you in emotions with a ballad. It’s the charm of making you curious and expectant.” Choerry: “I’m probably the only member of LOONA who can handle every single concept. I can span all of innocent and sexy. Fresh like a vitamin, but girl crush charms popping out too. That odd charm is the reason to fall for me.” HeeJin: “I’m sharp on the stage, but like a cute and lovely little sister off the stage. I think that gap is why you might fall for me. I showed off both my vocals and belly dance on MBC’s Masked Singer recently, and many people told me that that’s HeeJin’s reverse charm.” Kim Lip: “You’ll fall for my many talents. I’m good at everything. I have passion and ambition too. So I tried lots of different things. For music I learned piano, violin, guitar and gayageum, and in sports too I tried everything I wanted to. I’m a fast learner too but I think I’m just really curious. And yet I’m shy, so I can’t show it all and get embarrassed instead. Many fans think that’s adorable so that must be a reason to fall for, right?” Olivia Hye: “I’m part of the maknae line, but I’m tall and charismatic. My looks might make me seem chic, but my voice is cute. I’m cool on stage, but have a lot of everyday aegyo. I think that clear difference might be what fans like in me.” ViVi is LOONA’s only foreign member. Because of your cute looks and imperfect Korean, we felt like the members adore you despite you being the oldest. ViVi: “The members help me a lot. HaSeul especially. I don’t know a lot of things when we promote because of my Korean, but each time the members explain in many ways so it’s been fun. They all say that I’m like the maknae. It might be because my personality is to lean on friends and family a lot, but also because my Korean is kind of like a child so that feels like a maknae.” YeoJin is the team’s youngest. I've never in my life had such strong feelings for a girl group for the 3 years I have been listening/watching kpop. these girls are probably some of the most talented group of girls I have ever been privileged to follow from pre-debut to debut. every single one of them are likeable, funny, kind, understanding, it's like they're real people.

they acknowledge their LGBTQ+ fanbase, they know they have power to spread awareness, they see that they don't have to be some cookie-cutter bullshit (NOT CALLING OUT ANY OTHER GROUPS) to be interesting and successful. their music and videos carry so much meaning and are given so much care. it's not like the members are out of the loop, either. the company involves them and cares about them.

oh yeah, BlockBerry Creative. AMAZING agency. the best. you can tell if they could give the girls the world, they would.

in the end, yes, they are idols. they have jobs and they sing and they dance and they perform for us. but LOONA is something else. watching them be on stage as 12 once almost made me cry, just because they were TOGETHER. I really see them as a catalyst for change in perception within the industry. everyone is against them and why?? because they're different. they're telling a story others are too afraid to tell. 1 million+ views on a purposefully late uploaded debut stage.

I believe in them. in everything that they do. in everything that they stand for. as a group; as individuals, as human beings. I SEE them. we SEE them. we need to let them know that we see them. before LOONA I never thought I would actually be too emotionally invested in kpop because I thought it was trivial.

but for LOONA; a little bit of my heart belongs to them. I can confidently say that I love them ALL. that I would give my soul to see them together for the next 5+ years. my love for them is so immense.

hyunjin: MY BABY i hav such a soft spot for hyunjin and it’s hard not to??? she comes across as a little quiet at first and she acts like she doesnt care but she does u know she does shes not fooling anyone idc how many times shes told yeojin 2 shut up on camera i know she’d be one of the first if not THE first girl 2 be by her side (and any members side) if some shit went down. shes such a determined little thing too and when she has her eyes on something she goes for it no thinking abt it no questions asked she just does what she wants and thats something so impressive for a girl her age to be able to do. i feel like shes the type of person to just sit in the back and watch more than participate bc she doesnt mind if the other girls take the spotlight like shes such a chill, laid-back soul. i aspire to be like her. and shes so fucking funny really it’s almost criminal how hard she makes me laugh. haseul: the absolute love of my life? THE jo haseul?? theres a reason shes the member i latched onto the most at the beginning and ultimately kinda the member that tied me down to loona for good. like i was onboard w them from the get but it’s her that sealed the deal. i dont joke when i say she really is their guardian angel and no matter what u think of her in the comparison to the other girls u cant deny the fact that shes born leader material. she makes the other girls feel good and at-ease yknow. like she was always around vivi in the 1/3 loona tvs and u could tell it was like 2nd nature to her being by her side as vivi navigated her way through a country and language she wasnt all too familiar with. and like w/ yves for another example like yves if all facts check out was only w/ bbc for a three week period before they debuted her so obviously she wasnt familiar with any of the girls which is why she was so awkward at first. but haseul? bless her soul she did all that she could to make her feel at home. and she has such a beautiful voice i feel like not enough ppl praise her for it. also fuck yg for making her feel bad during mixnine she deserves the world and he can suck my big toe

yeojin: miss thang miss thang. what 2 say what 2 say. first things first shes a trooper. shes a baby i mean a lot of them are babies but yeojin is an actual baby baby i almost fainted when i learned how old she is. but despite her age shes so firm yknow. when shes doing things she wants to do them right to the best of her abilities and shes always striving to be better which is so admirable bc for me personally at that age i was a goddamn mess i couldnt be doing and juggling even a third of the shit she does. and shes right next to hyunjin when it comes to making me laugh shes just so loud and full of energy even 2 the point where i get tired watching her and im loud and full of energy but her being loud and being full of energy kicks my being loud and being full of energy in the ass. if any of that made sense. but theres never a dry eye in sight when shes in the room and u can tell shes such a joy 2 be around as much shit as the other girls give her lol i just feel real protective of her bc shes just so full of life and laughter and i just want her to be out here living her best life

vivi: it needs 2 be said that i have such high respect for any kpop idol who’s from another country bc theres just so much thats going against them. miss vivi is away from home away from her comfort space away from her friends and family away from a place where she can speak proficiently and fluently bc shes struggling to learn a new language and?? on top of that shes doing all the other standard idol stuff. thats some tough shit thats some scary shit but she takes it all on with a brave face and an open mind. and being able to slowly watch her build up more confidence in the language and basically everything else has been such an honor. like when im out here on my weak shit feeling sorry for myself i gotta think 2 myself what would miss vivi do? how would miss vivi tackle this? i lov this girl honestly i would die for her she does so much and i feel like not all of it is fully appreciated but she’ll have her moment i know she will and it’ll only be a matter of time before ppl see how amazing she is 

kim lip: giiiiiiiiirl. lip is such a strong person. like in all aspects. shes crazy talented it’s a little scary to think abt how much she’ll grow once they properly debut as a group and she gets more experience bc?? she just has so much going for her. her charisma is off the charts she can easily pull a crowd if her solo being a real big jumping point in spreading the loona name says anything at all. and shes such a good pick for the oec leader she definitely has those vibes like u just cant help but listen to her regardless of whatever bullshit she says and she says a lot of bullshit but do i liv by that bullshit and eat it up like shes spouting out the new testament u can bet ur ass i do. lip is definitely one of those girls that u cant help but be drawn to like u just want 2 be her bff bc once u remove her from the stage she has such girl next door vibes i feel like she’d be the type of girl u see in the club and u make small talk by the bar bc u made eye contact by accident and all of the sudden before u know it youve spent ur whole night w her and u hav her phone number and plans to meet up next week bc shes so friendly 

jinsoul: i make fun of her a lot. but w good reason: shes easy 2 make fun of. shes so quirky but not in the ironic way like shes really quirky and a bit of a walking disaster but it’s charming and she makes it work. even if shes not ur fav? shes still? kinda ur fav? even if u dont know it? if i made a list of some of my fav loona moments i assure u she’d be included in about 80% of it like shes such a staple to the group i really cant imagine her not being w them i mean i cant imagine the group w/o any of them but jinsoul especially. sometimes i watch loona vids knowing good and damn well shes not gonna be in them but i still end up thinking where is jinsoul?? bc not 2 speak for everybody (i will tho) but no one can get enough jinsoul. also her voice? i love it it’s one of my favs in not only loona but kpop in general. both speaking-wise and singing-wise. it’s just so pretty i really did astral project the first time i heard sitr & love letter. true out of body experiences 10/10 would recommend the yelp reviews are in shes 100% worth It. what is the It shes worth? idk but whatever It is .. shes worth It.

choerry: i just want her 2 be my little sister wow. miss yerim really has my heart. truly the embodiment of :) . shes so smily and has such a strong energy u cant help but like her. in every loona tv shes in shes making someone laugh or smile and it’s no coinkidink it’s bc shes really just that much of a ray of sunshine and u cant help but fall for her. give her some time i pledge w my life that once they debut she is going 2 shine on variety shows theres no way she wont. she has such good sense and shes so flexible. and if lcm is anything 2 go by shes able to switch it up and kill different concepts and sounds at the drop of a hat. def one to keep ur eye on bc u just know shes gonna go far in the future theres no way she wont she has all the tools in her arsenal to make it big no problem. does she resemble the annoying orange? yes and i’ll hate kim lip forever for putting that image in my head but that wont stop her shes truly a force to be reckoned with.

yves: my baby! u didnt hear this from me but i lov her a lot. she was kinda just thrown 2 the wolves w/ her three weeks of training i can only imagine how nerve wracking it must’ve been for her. here is an army of girls bbc has as potential loona members whove been training for years/knew the other girls who were already chosen as loona members/have even gone along for the ride with the chosen loona members to film their mvs and yet shes the one who was picked to be added after three weeks of her being w the company. three weeks !!! thats a lot of pressure but despite that she gave us everything she got. she was real nervous in the beginning anyone could tell when u watched her loona tv arc but she got over it and by the time chuu’s arc rolled around she was joking around w/ the others like it was nothing. shes so funny too but in an awkward way. like she doesnt mean to be but she says and does shit that makes u ?? and u cant help but laugh. her gig with marishe? i have never seen anything funnier like that bitch really took 100+ photos all w the same face and w the same three poses if that’s not talent idk what is. and i dont think it’s been confirmed in writing yet but shes gonna be such a good leader for the eden unit i feel it in my bones 

chuu: when i tell u my heart has skipped a beat over this girl. im not saying it 2 be dramatic im deadass. my heart has skipped a beat multiple times watching her whether it be a fancam or a loona tv or even a selfie. i’ve watched that little instagram update of her in her pig onesie more times than i want 2 disclose. her voice???? oh my god im in love with it. shes such a strong singer like STRONG and u can hear that in heart attack and girl’s talk and see saw but if u listen to her covers shes done before being introduced as a member it’s like !!!!! wow. and she makes a lot of noises. like just incoherent sounds and its so cute i could cry. like i dont have the attention span 2 sit and watch a vlive if it’s not subbed … but i’d do it for her just bc i love hearing her talk i love her voice on any and all levels u could love someones voice. and all her little mannerisms are adorable and this could really turn into me typing a whole mla formatted essay on how i find her 2 be one of the cutest girls in the world but i’ll spare u. and ofc shes not just cute like i said before this girl is talented and i cant wait for loona to grow as a group so she can be on bigger and bigger platforms for more and more ppl to hear her sing bc thats just how it should be

gowon: i lov her i lov her i lov her!! i’d do just about anything for this girl if she asked but i feel like regardless of who u are u wouldnt be able to refuse her even if u wanted to. i latch onto every word she says everything she says is gold. shes so giggly and a lot of that giggling is bc she probably feels awkward but it’s still real cute. shes also lowkey highkey gotta mouth on her like she’ll really come for ppls throats if she feels it’s necessary and thats beautiful to me. she doesnt get enough credit but as pretty as she is more attention should be focused on her talents bc she is a talented girl. her vocal tone is high and ‘cute’ but i think it melds so well w/ the other girls’ voices and theres a lot of opportunity there if and when they decide to create new sub-units/have more duet songs. and my girl can dance im tired of ppl overlooking her bc?? her pre-debut vids are a little stiff ye but theres so much potential there shes such a gem and i cant wait for her to grow more bc i know theres so much she could be doing w/ what she has

How to get into LOONA

Since it’s coming close to their official debut, people might be looking to get into them and I’m brilliant at gathering any information that isn’t to do with my actual coursework, I’m going to make a post of helpful LOONA information and links.

This series is actually what makes a lot of people love the group as they are all really funny, hardworking and have big personalities once they get past their initial nerves about being on camera. A lot of the memes come from this series too.

I’ve put the rest of the info and links under a read more because it’s a lot (my apologies to mobile phone users).

Ok so first of all the name LOONA comes from the group’s Korean name 이달의 소녀 which means girl of the month (because the concept was that they released a new video or member nearly every month pre-debut), in their English name the hangul has been shortened to ㅇㄷㅇㅅㄴ and then the shapes of the characters have been rearranged and stylised as LOONA. 

They’re a really great group to get into because as I’ve said before they all have very unique and bright personalities, they can pull off so many different musical styles so well (like wow queens of versatility and talent) and their storyline has enough complexities and theories that they could write several books and make a movie on it (I’m not going to go into that in detail here though because it would take too long, there are already videos on it and it’s basically as confusing as HYYH at this point if not more so). On top of that, their company (Blockberry Creative) has been pretty good to the fans and the girls so far. They post everything in Korean and English, put subtitles on all of their videos and frequently ask the fans about opinions on things like which countries they should go to in the future and so on.

Anyway, getting into the members, there are 12 members of LOONA and they each have a solo song and a representative animal and colour. The members and their solos, animals and colours are:

Yeojin is the youngest member (2002) and ViVi is the oldest (1996). ViVi is also originally from Hong Kong and she’s had to work pretty hard to learn Korean, but if you watch LOONA TV you will see that the other girls support her a lot, her Korean has gradually improved and she seems a lot more comfortable communicating now.

They also have three main subunits, which all have different concepts. These subunits are:
