#I like this version of Shiho better

One of the big things I was wondering about for the Whisper Me a Love Song adaption was how they'd handle Aki. I remember when my bestie rec'd WMALS to me they said something to the effect of the main couple being great but the side couple being even better, and they were 1000% correct and Aki quickly became my fav. And so far in the anime version, it feels like they're doing a wonderful job!

So much of Aki's character is just brimming with painful but beautiful angst. Aki's default state when dealing with Yori is supportive friend, but that pushes down her own feelings for Yori regularly. When she hears someone confessed their love to Yori, she teases a bit, but when Yori says she might love this girl back, for a split second Aki's eyes well up.

It's so brief, but just that brief expression carries SO much pain in it. But as Aki does, she covers it up quickly, trying to be a wingman for her best friend, because performing that role is easier than admitting her feelings, admitting how much she's hurting from this unrequited love, and deep down the roots of this hurt coming from her recent friendship with Shiho falling apart.

Aki's downright relieved when she learns that Himari told Yori that she was just in love with her music, not her, joking about it, and looking pleased. She says it's hilarious, and it probably is to her, but deep down it means that she can still pine for Yori without worrying.

Then Yori keeps talking about this girl. And in a brilliant shot, you can see a blurry Aki in the background start to realize that Yori isn't letting up, and it's heartbreaking.

When she comes into focus, you see that she's blushing. She defaults again to advice giving/jokey wingman best friend, but you can see the hurt, especially when Yori keeps going about this girl.

The subtle expressions that don't linger very long have me very excited for this series and what's to come with Aki.

And everything else seems super well done so far, and Himari and Yori are perfectly cute with Himari's bubbly energy matched by Yori's dweeb lesbian style.

The OP also has me SUUUPER excited because of the shots of Aki and Shiho mirroring each other, showing already that we may get to the root of her angst in this adaptation. And hopefully get to the happiness and healing that comes from working through the angst.

so, i started thinking (which is already a dangerous task for me to do at any given time), and it lead to me asking a question: "Why is WxS Kaito in Solid Heart?" and it sent me down such a deep rabbit hole of realisation that i'm going to word vomit everything into this post.

so first, for the unitiated: during the second april fool's day event, the cast of project sekai was stuffed into a single school: the All Music Mikudemy (or just mikudemy from here forward), and organised into four classes, with one from each unit entering each class. cautious heart, with honami, haruka, kohane, tsukasa, and mafuyu; passion heart, with saki, minori, an, rui, and mizuki; solid heart, with shiho, airi, akito, nene, and ena; and pure heart, with ichika, shizuku, toya, emu, and kanade. but one additional part of it is that the virtual singers also got shuffled into these groups, with one from each sekai (two from vbs) entering the four classes: 25ji miku in pure heart, mmj rin in passion heart, vbs len in passion heart, l/n luka in cautious heart, vbs meiko in cautious heart, and wxs kaito in solid heart.

we know it's these specific versions of the virtual singers because of minor design details shown through their live2d models and the way they behave (or, for miku, it's really obvious she's from the empty sekai). rin having the stage sekai ribbon specificially, len wearing the uniform like he does his street sekai jacket, luka's sweater having the same blue accents and her wearing the same locket, meiko wearing the same earrings she does in the street sekai and using the kamiyama uniform's tie, and kaito having the same mustache pin he wears on his wonderland sekai uniform. there's also the fact these six are considered the "initial" virtual singers of each group and were part of the cast of the 2.5 anni virtual singer event. which was probably what decided who would be part of the mikudemy in the first place.

all of this established, i again ask the question at the core of this: Why is WxS Kaito in Solid Heart? the way he behaves aligns far more with the vibes of cautious heart, especially with the fact he's the initial virtual singer of tsukasa's sekai. his controlled, older brother air (if emu's "kaito onii-san" says anything) matches the way tsukasa feels and behaves regarding saki, that's certainly a large part of what formed kaito into the sekai in the first place. he's the leader of the virtual singer theatre troupe, he handles most of the directing for their shows, he functions as the "straight man" to the comedic natures of the wonderland sekai cast. everything kaito is aligns with cautious heart, not solid heart. so Why?

the short, and probably real answer if we assume colopale didn't put a ton of thought into an april fool's event, is that they otherwise wouldn't have a virtual singer for solid heart. none of the chosen cast fits the description of solid heart, most of them significantly worse than kaito does at first glance, and cautious heart already has two of the major "mentor" virtual singers in l/n luka and vbs meiko. the closest to a solid heart rep beyond what they already have would probably be vbs len, but i definitely agree that he's better fit for passion heart, for reasons i'll get into later as i answer the big question (including but not limited to: keeping len with rin).

but i think there's an actual reason behind kaito's solid heart placement, something i discovered by looking through the other virtual singers and why they fit the classes they've been assigned.

first, let's look at luka, meiko, and cautious heart as a whole, since i already have a short (by my standards) description of what makes cautious heart cautious heart on my blog as is, it's just more focused on why tsukasa's in it in particular rather than about the class as a whole. cautious heart is, by description, a grouping of natural leaders that handle those around them with great care and kindness, often to a point it begins to reflect poorly on their mental health (look at honami and mafuyu). all of them come from some level of "talent"—haruka is regarded as a perfect idol, kohane has a natural gift for singing, mafuyu's... entire story—but where this separates from pure heart, who carry the same trait, is the way this impacts their lives, starting in some way negatively. as their talent brings with it expectation, either from themselves (tsukasa and mafuyu) or the world around them (everyone else), and this expectation is something that weighs heavily on these characters. a massive central part of all of their themes is this expectation, the impacts it left in their lives, and how they move forward with this expectation. some of them leave it behind them (mafuyu), some of them chase with the dream of overcoming it (kohane and tsukasa), and some of them completely redefine what these expectations mean (honami and haruka).

if we look at l/n luka and vbs meiko, we can immediately see a couple throughlines to this theming: namely the factor of talent and leadership. luka is the senpai of the school sekai, having knowledge of all four leo/need instruments to a degree that she can reliably teach the members of the band how to improve throughout their entire story, and being the only one to genuinely test shiho's mastery of the bass earlier in the story. the role luka plays in the stories of leo/need's members matches the role honami plays in the relationships of the band, sharing that same unending drive to care and support the others in the group, something especially shown through her roles in Stella After the Rain and Live with Memories. vbs meiko is very much the same way for the street sekai, being the owner and bartender of crase cafe and holding a mentor role for the other virtual singers and members of vivid bad squad. she doesn't step in to assist with improving their singing until vbs get noticeably better, roughly halfway into their journey to surpass rad weekend, because not only does it provide opportunities for the other virtual singers to provide their input, but her teachings exist on a level above what the others offer at first.

both school sekai luka and street sekai meiko stand on a level beyond the other virtual singers in their sekai, and choose to offer their wisdom akin to a parent or a teacher rather than peer-to-peer like many of the other relationships with the virtual singers tend to be. they are leaders within their sekai, even looked to as such by those that made the sekai they're part of. perfect fits for cautious heart.

then there's rin and len. the former is really easy to assign to passion heart; stage sekai rin takes most after minori, if not clear by her being the least experienced of the six and her role in Hear Me! Hopeful Stage and Connected by Painful Hope (performing two different roles for minori and haruka respectively but they're both parallels to minori's own role in the idol group; rin's empathy and understanding for minori's struggle and the extra perspective she gives to haruka that she otherwise wouldn't have considered). everything about mmj rin connects back to minori in some way, and as a passion heart student herself, it was a given that stage sekai rin would be assigned the same class.

but len approaches passion heart from a completely different direction, something that adds a new perspective to the class and their stories. because on the surface, len would be better fit for solid heart: his relationship with akito is one of the core dynamics of the street sekai, he's constantly in competition with street sekai rin, and even to some degree with miku (mirroring the early dynamics between akito and an), and he played a major role in akito's chapter of BREAK DOWN THE WALL. most of the evidence points toward solid heart vbs len, but i believe the part that puts him in passion heart is the fact rin is a given to go there. because rin and len are a pair. they share a number, they're both kagamines, and across every sekai they have a special relationship that works as a motivator for at least one member of the sekai. and out of every group, it's vivid bad squad that puts the most emphasis on the importance of partnership. it's a massively central and unendingly important aspect of its story and the growth of its characters.

street sekai len takes this pairing of rin and len to an extra level, as their relationship is the example of vivid bad squad's partner dynamic. every time conflict arises between the two, it's ultimately born from wanting to be a better partner for the other; something that's directly paralleled across both the bad dogs and the vivids. entire plot points are built from the importance of this dynamic, the fact they are the most important people in each other's lives (not even in a shipping sense, this is just direct storytelling; to deny that fact is to deny the essence of the group itself), and that manifests itself into the dynamic of rin and len. a pair of virtual singers whose relationship transcends sekai. no matter the circumstance, no matter the personality they're given, they are partners.

and when you look at passion heart through this perspective, you can immediately see a pattern: every member of passion heart strives to embody a certain light they were given. saki with tsukasa, minori with haruka, an with nagi, rui with tom gray, mizuki with yuuki. and, within their own groups, their stories develop their characters through their relationships with others, having entire events around a particular, vitally important person: saki's Parallel Harmonies with ichika, minori's entire dynamic with haruka, an's entire arc from Bout for Beside You to Whip the Wimp Girl!!, rui's relationship with tsukasa after the main story, and mizuki's My Footprints, Your Destination and Our Escape For Survival for ena and mafuyu respectively.

passion heart is built around its relationships, the importance other people play in their lives and growth. to not include the inseparable pair of rin and len in that class would simply be a mistake.

this brings us back around to kaito and solid heart. what about wonderland sekai kaito connects him to the themes of solid heart? well, if school luka and street meiko are cautious heart students at the ends of their journeys, and street len is a new perspective on the meaning of passion heart, i think wonderland kaito is meant to be both of these things. because kaito is the solid heart connection to cautious heart, a representation of what they're capable of by embodying a class solid heart often envies.

wonderland kaito pulls a lot from tsukasa's character (obviously so, as a manifestation of his emotions), and tsukasa's story, despite himself being cautious heart, reflects the themes of solid heart. specifically the events On the Stage of Dazzling Light and Towards the Phoenix at the Sky's Edge. stories about tsukasa's struggle to perform as the actor he wants to be, the latter specifically putting him in a position of intense longing for a goal he feels is lifetimes away from him. yes, both of these are for the sake of the character he's playing, but that reflects perfectly in the stories of solid heart, who put their all into their work to achieve the goals they've set out for themselves, and will put themselves through the most difficult climbs just to reach the top of the cliffside. if the way his story presents itself wasn't better fit for cautious heart, and nene wasn't already a perfect solid heart student, tsukasa would be solid heart. and kaito, carrying such a major piece of tsukasa: his dedication to his craft, is the solid heart within tsukasa. the drive to grow, the will to keep pushing no matter the challenge, the willingness to try anything that might lead to success, even if they get hurt in the process. yes, he acts more like cautious heart, but that's the point.

shiho has always been an odd one when it comes to solid heart's themes. yes, they act like a member of solid heart (all the way down to the common mischaracterisation of them being an asshole, a universal trait of solid heart characters), but their story has always worked in contrast to the rest of solid heart. solid heart characters come from a position of inferiority, feeling the need to overcompensate and push themselves to their limits in order to "keep up" with the rest of their groups' capabilities. shiho has never had this struggle; they've always been skilled, the most experienced member of the band. shiho has an entire event, Don't Lose Faith!, that has ichika confront them about the fact they hold back to not outshine the other band members, so they don't glow too bright and take the glory for themselves. it's the opposite of what solid heart has always needed to do. because shiho, like kaito represents, is already there. their drive was uninhibited by their environment, save for the struggle to find a band they can participate in. their actual ability as a musician has never been hampered by the world, while the rest of solid heart run off the belief they're worse than their group because that's what the world has told them, directly or indirectly. shiho is the sunlight that solid heart is capable of achieving.

so wonderland kaito, much like shiho represents, is an embodiment of what solid heart can do with their determination to grow despite the challenges. because they look up to the cautious heart students, they're envious of their skills and talents. but kaito is the proof that they can be that.

that, i think, is why kaito is solid heart. the virtual singers are representations of these characters' feelings and aspirations, and wonderland kaito serves as an embodiment of the goals of solid heart. their mission to be like the cautious heart students that seem to have everything together. kaito shows them that it's possible by being like cautious heart but still solid heart.

the most ideal ending for haibara ai/ miyano shiho/ "sherry" imo

it's no secret that i love haibara ai's character and her arc. from someone who lost everything: her childhood, her family and freedom; to escaping and she learning how to trust again/ gaining a found family, is just beautiful.

even though i'm a coai shipper (and of course I would be very happy if they're canon) i don't mind if they never get together (tho i hope they do, it would soothe my shipper soul), because ai's character arc can still be completed without coai being a thing.

her arc can only be completed if these things happen:

Haibara Ai must return to being Miyano Shiho:

evidence 1: ch. 1110, where conan was wondering why he hasn't grown taller. It's probably because of APTX-4869 is a cell destroying due to apotoxin properties explained in the haido hotel arc, making it impossible to grow/ eternal youth. Even if she stayed a child to relive her childhood, she would stay a child forever based on this info from this chapter.

evidence 2: ayumi and conan inspiring her not to run away from her fate. She got braver & motivated to live through her connections with people and became a better person. by returning to her true, but reformed self, would be the ultimate completion of her arc because she's confronting her fear and she's no longer running away from her past.

She must be a part of the final battle, both as the biochemist, inner informant but also a strategist:

people know that haibara ai is hiding stuff about the BO from conan mainly because she believes it's not safe without the enemy revealing all of their cards and one false move will have a ripple effect of negative consequences/ endanger the people around her like how the BO got rid of Akemi/ her parents.

shinichi ignores her warnings anyways and she always has to track him to give him the spare antidote/ rescue him multiple times, so it makes sense why she wouldn't tell him everything.

like conan/ shinichi already failed twice in his encounter with the BO on two seperate occassions. if vermouth didn't already have favoritism feelings from the NY case for conan, detective conan would've ended in ep. 345 and if gin hadn't doubted himself to stop checking the lockers after finding conan's tracers twice/ double checked with pisco, it would've ended earlier (i mean that guy shot his arm to neutralize a tranquilizer. i'm convinced he could probably survived being kicked with the super shoes/ other defense measures, anyways i digress).

i am in the minority opinion, where i don't think haibara ai has the complete antidote bc she has incomplete data. she could only create a temporary antidote with the bloody floppy disk found in the desperate revival arc, which only has part of the original composition of the APTX 4869 and is using paikal as a substitute base (not the actual base in the original version), which is incomplete and temporary.

APTX was built off of her parents research/ other people's research over 50 years ago, whose data she doesn't have, so it makes sense that she probably doesn't remember every part of what made up APTX. If she doesn't know enough of the original components of APTX 4869, then obviously she can't come up with the antidote.

i see a lot of grief about haibara not telling conan everything about the BO, but i think this is in part due to conan hiding stuff from her / continue to put himself in danger & almost dying multiple times after she warned him not to be so reckless/ not all of the higher ranked members of the BO have appeared. honestly if conan let's her in on akai, yusaku/ yukiko, the intelligence officer moles in BO, FBI planning, and heiji, without hiding stuff from her, I think she'd probably feel comfortable revealing more information especially about the base of operations that she knows about and the combined intelligence will be the death of BO.

also akai was in the BO too/ should know some things considering that he was sent on missions, but idk why people are only giving grief to haibara, considering she has expressed multiple times that she only knows the names of things but she was only exposed to things pertaining to her. Even though she grew up in the organization, she also doesn't have the full picture of the organization, as she never met high ranking members like Rum/ Pisco, she's only heard their names/ rumors.

I digress. Haibara Ai has to be part of the strategy team to take down the BO in the end.

side note: only three figures in the entire series has been called a "silver bullet," which are Shiho, Shinichi and Akai, they're the three that will play the biggest roles in taking down the BO.

Shiho confessing who she is to Ran, the DB and the police

I honestly think that Shiho should be the one to confess to Ran that she's the creator of the drug that turned her boyfriend into a kid before Shinichi tells her. She's probably not asking for forgiveness and she'll probably tell her that Ran reminds her of her sister, Akemi, who died because she got in the way of the BO, expressing a desire to keep her safe but unintentionally hurt her, taking the blame. But when Shiho does this, it will be when the antidote is permanent/ the conflict is nearing the end. Ran would then be brought into the fold and finally become an ally (considering how Aoyama-sensei is probably saving Ran to be a part of the main conflict later, somehow, since her 17th birthday is a significant plot point).

I think Shiho will tell Ayumi, whom she's closest to. To basically tell her the truth and to tell them not to become involved in the main conflict or something. Idk, but I think her telling the DB would be significant somehow.

Idk if she'll reveal the truth to the police, but I do believe that she should have some consequences for her actions. but considering that jodie/ the FBI offered her witness protection, it will probably be alright and i'm not going to comment too much considering i have no idea how japanese laws would handle someone like haibara.

Shiho staying with Prof. Agasa

a lot of people are convinced that she'll go live with the Akai family, but I seriously doubt it. they might acknowledge that they have a relationship but being sentimental enough to form a close-knit bond, idk. there's enough chapters highlighting the akai family/ haibara ai strained dynamic to prove that she would probably go with the professor in the end.

i feel like she would stay with the professor as a daughter figure, helping him with his inventions like how she is now, but maybe traveling more (considering she grew up overseas).

anyways she'll be free/ enjoying her freedom and maybe she'll go study/ get a PhD in medicine or something else.

also if the end ship isn't coai, then i would much rather her be single in the end than in a potential romance.

but either way, her arc would be complete: she has a found family, she's no longer haunted by the BO and she's finally free to live as herself.

Haha I never process ShinRan in my adult brain. Him always gaslighting her is so true LMAO To tell you the truth, I dislike the whole childhood friends to lovers theme, so I don't have much care for many canon relationships in the manga. I gravitate towards the more fun (thus CoAi; BO is a fun plot and it's the centre plot of theirs) or even toxic (like Kogoro and Eri, but omg Kogoro is a POS who doesn't deserve her).

I don't know if my opinion is unpopular but I prefer Conan to Shinichi, even if they are the same person, so I haven't the idea of ShinShi. In an AU, if ShinShi somehow met (without the APTX 4869), how and what would it be like in your opinion?

ShinRan just seems so childish to me now compared to back when I was a kid🤣. Same, I don't really care for that trope, but especially in Detective Conan because it's so damn overused😭. I think the only couple that isn't childhood friends to lovers is Takagi and Sato. Oddly enough, the only canon couple that I actually like with that trope is HeijixKazuha (who are FINALLY canon after all these years.) Idk why but they've just always felt like the better version of ShinRan to me.

On the one hand I want Kogoro and Eri to get back together, but on the other hand I think that she deserves so much better than him, even though it's plainly obvious that they still love each other.

It.... Might be an unpopular opinion? But I definitely understand that feeling, lol. Conan and Shinichi honestly feel like they're two different people when they aren't, and it's because Shinichi has changed a lot during his time as Conan. Also because of the fact that whenever he's thinking to himself, he still sounds like Conan, whereas in the English dub (which is what introduced me to this series) he sounds like his teenage self. Which makes it easier to remember that Conan and Shinichi are the same person.

Without APTX 4869? They wouldn't get along AT ALL at first🤣. Shinichi would still be an arrogant dumbass who thinks he knows everything and is the greatest thing to ever happen, and Shiho would not want to entertain nor tolerate his bs. So she would find him extremely annoying. With Shinichi I feel like he would find her interesting since she's the only girl (other than Sonoko, but she hardly counts) who doesn't seem interested in him at all and doesn't act like one of his fangirls. So basically, he'd see her as a mystery he needs to solve.

Miku: MMJ and WxS Miku can, VBS Miku probably could if she wanted to, L/n and 25ji Miku can’t.

Luka: I don’t think any version of her can. VBS and 25ji Luka probably claim that they can but make no move to prove it in order to mess with the others.

Rin: She’s a little less confident and fumbles the landing a bit, but she probably can. The only version that can’t is 25ji Rin, and L/n Rin has only tried once.

Len: Every single version of Len can do a backflip, including 25ji Len (this version is not aware he can do a backflip but if he tried he would land it).

MEIKO: Maybe she could, but she’s not going to try regardless of which SEKAI she’s in.

KAITO: Probably not. VBS KAITO is like Luka in that he claims he can, but he actually tries and fumbles massively. WxS KAITO is the most likely to be able to do it but he doesn’t try.

Ichika: Probably not, but if she really wanted to she could learn how to.

Saki: No, and for the sake of her health it’s best if she doesn’t try (she is lowkey disappointed by this fact).

Honami: No, and it’s never crossed her mind to try.

Shiho: No, she’s too focused on her bass and the band. She could maybe learn, but Ichika would get it quicker.

Minori: Not right now, but she’s learning! I believe in her (she has failed quite a few times now but she is getting better).

Haruka: If she wanted to learn she’d get it relatively quickly, but learning how to backflip is not a priority.

Airi: I can see this being a skill she picked up during her TV days. She’s confident about it, too.

Shizuku: I’m sorry I just can’t imagine Shizuku doing a backflip.

Kohane: No, but I can see Akito teaching her how for the sole purpose of surprising the rest of VBS.

An: Maybe? I can see her being able to but also it would be funny if she thought she could but misjudged how hard it is.

Akito: Yes, he is canonically good at anything involving physical activity, he probably learned how as a kid and was able to keep the skill as he grew up.

Toya: No, he wasn’t allowed to try things like that as a kid and I think he’d struggle with figuring out how to do it.

Tsukasa: He says he can, no one has seen him do one.

Emu: Yes, and she doesn’t realise it’s an impressive skill. The first time she did one in front of WxS while excited they just stood there shocked.

Nene: No, and she has no intention of ever trying.

Rui: He can’t, but the moment someone asked if he could he got the idea to implement the function into Robo-Nene.

Kanade: No.

Mafuyu: No, her mother would think it’s a waste of time learning how to.

Ena: No, and she doesn’t want to learn how, but she is lowkey jealous her brother can.

Mizuki: Probably not, but I can see them deciding to learn how because they’re bored.

Now onto business, hope you don't mind: I've seen some people around saying that Taiga never cared for An to begin with. Obviously, my first instinct was to say that An is Taiga's niece and he did care but... To what extent? His acts were only caused by grief as a sort of "necessary evil", but just how much did he care if he destroyed Vivid Street and vbs in such gruesome ways?

I couldn't pull any proof by myself so I wanted to ask you instead! What do you think?

Hoc you are my first follower twice now (thrice if you also count my main account), and I believe you've actually got to send the first ask twice as well - one of those asks was just shorter so I opted answering it before yours. It's actually hilarious.

As for the question... Very, very tough to answer this. This is also something I choose to believe we'll find out more about in An5, but for now I will say this: he did care. He just didn't care as much as others thought, we thought, and most importantly, as An thought. But he did care. He just cared about his own ideals and emotions more.

Here's why I think so, although bear in mind it practically borders on theory territory because of how little we actually know about Taiga's inner thoughts.

1) He knows singing is An's coping mechanism, and he urges her to use it.

This is something that we, of course, see with our own eyes for basically the entire An's storyline - at the very least, since An2. An also openly states it herself... In Vivid Old Tale second sidestory!

Quite fitting.

Those are nearly the first and only words Taiga directs to An after telling her the news. Sing it out. You know you want to.

This is vague, and it can be interpreted differently, but this is what I can see here, at least. He wants An to sing. He challenges everyone, but he wants An, An specifically, to fight him - with all that anger and distress she's got, and showed him a second ago. She blows up at Taiga and Taiga immediately says: redirect that into your singing.

And he is not wrong.

2) He knows exactly where An's roadblock lies, and pushes her to break through it (in the worst possible ways).

Since Resonant Town at least, we have a very consistent topic with An: she struggles with her singing, and she feels stuck as her teammates are moving forward. At the same time, her teammates are all going through... Discovering their feelings, as well. Kohane in Kick it Up a Notch, Touya with composing since Walk On and On but moreso in The First Concerto, and Akito in Burn My Soul; all of those have to do with feelings. And for all, ultimately, accepting and embracing those feelings, whatever they are, leads to a breakthrough.

An is the only one who has not done it yet. She is avoiding it, she's avoiding all of it as hard as she can, believing that singing more and more is the only solution to her problem - but she is stuck.

But in Resonant Town, we also see something interesting: An actually sings... Very differently when she allows her singing to speak through her song. That yearning, desperation, struggle - it colors her singing. Is it better? Up to debate, but I believe if Shiho has heard both that version of An and then her usual singing, controlled and devoid of those emotions, and found that something is lacking, and then L/N Miku echoed her sentiment as well... Then yes, I believe that An Shiraishi is An's true potential.

Then, there's this moment in Light Up the Fire; yet again, An tries to avoid confronting her feelings. The moment she tries to do that, she crumbles: Taiga then notices that and provokes her further. He says things that he knows will hurt, because he wants it to hurt; and he wants An to sing with that hurt, because that's what she should allow herself to do if she wants to have the power to surpass Rad Weekend.

Once again, he is proven right. It's very likely that this is the direction An's arc will go to: accept that grief, anger, fury, everything, and sing with it, not despite it.

3) He does care about other members of the team, as well.

Some less, some more; I think he cares most about Arata both because he's given him advice twice and because he sees himself in Arata. The advice he's given to him is something that Taiga himself took to heart; something that he believes has made him strong.

But: the fact that the battle happened at all is a sign that Taiga at least isn't indifferent towards An, and the rest of them. He wants them to surpass RW, to follow through Nagi's wish; if he hadn't, he would've just stepped aside and let them struggle and ultimately fail. They needed this - this push - to understand what they were lacking.

It doesn't mean he is not an asshole. It also doesn't mean he isn't cruel. But ultimately, an answer to your question: Taiga cared.

It can be argued he's done that for Nagi's sake, too, and not his wish alone. It's a very solid opinion as well, and I think a truthful one. But Taiga is also someone who ultimately didn't care enough about what Nagi wanted, too: this is important. He wouldn't have done something just because of that - for Taiga to do something, he has to have at least some personal stake in the matter.

I think he got attached to VBS and their team, despite trying to be skeptical: that attachment led him to do things he did, but he also resented it, because he didn't want to believe that Nagi was right about future generations; he still wanted to achieve their dream by himself, not pass it over to some strangers. He believes that he alone deserves to carry it, and seeing them come so close they might actually reach out to it is the main source of his anger and cruelty - not his grief alone. Part of him wanted to kick VBS and the team down so hard they wouldn't recover, proving that desire to carry on by himself right; but a part of him... Well, a lot of inner battles going in that man's mind, I'm sure.

I didn't think he ever cared about An as much as Ken did, or as much as Nagi did; my controversial opinion is that he didn't have to. At the end of the day, An is not his child, and is not a child he is obligated to support in any way that is beyond basic civility to her. For Taiga, An is just a friend's kid and Nagi's niece, not really his. And I can't argue with that, honestly; he and An just had... Different perception about who's who in their lives. That's upsetting, but before Taiga did something that horrible, I couldn't blame him for that.

I don't know if there was genuine care in there, to be honest. But I think there was definitely attachment and a little bit of hope. But above all that, there was selfishness - and once again, this is the overarching theme of VBS - and that was the reason Taiga did what he did.

i was reading comments under a video showing the “accept maruki’s reality” ending to persona 5 royal, and i saw a strange amount of people defending it? well, i don’t know if “defending” is the right word per say, but a lot of people said they favoured it over the “return to reality” ending. and i genuinely cannot understand why.

i completely understand that it's nice to see everyone happy and getting along. and it's definitely nice seeing akechi finally have a place of belonging. but i also know it's just a fabricated reality. it reverses all of the emotional development the cast went through and it's like the "and they all lived happily ever after" ending that most storybooks have.

the blind acceptance of maruki's reality completely backs up maruki's motive as well. it's so much simpler to take the easy way out of a situation than work towards an ideal outcome. i understand that. i myself have struggled with mental health and personal issues where i sometimes just wish i could snap those problems away and live my life in peace. but it just ain’t right, yknow?

maruki's reality went against all of the characters development over the course of the game, too. ryuji realizing he didn't need the track team to have a place of belonging, ann working to become stronger for shiho, makoto not wanting to be a pushover and work to become a police commander to avenge her father, they worked for the outcomes they were given, and it was so rewarding to see them grow as the game progressed. and while the maruki reality is nice, because it definitely is, it's not the truth. it was a path chosen for them by an outside influence. a life without struggle is meaningless, you don't learn anything that way, it doesn't MEAN anything.

it reminds me of fanfiction authors who disregard specific aspects of characters so they can make a pairing work better, like yeah you’ve got a sweet emotional love story with two characters you like, but is it really those two characters? or is it just a “perfect” version of them made so that you can take away the extra steps needed to write a meaningful relationship?

i guess my passion comes from a personal place. i’ve dealt with my own mental health for quite some time, and there have been times where i just wished the pain could stop. but now that i’m where i am now, if i was given the opportunity to erase all of that pain? i wouldn’t take it. that pain made me who i am. it made me stronger, it taught me things. i walked my own path and got an outcome i’d consider my ideal reality.

All we know is that Tsumiki seems to take on the role of a sort of caretaker for Megumi and was apparently kind. But we only get that information from Megumi’s pov, iirc. :oc

So that information could have been super biased.

And in Project Sekai, we actually get to know both Shizuku and Shiho.

Since both are part of the main cast within Project Sekai (there’s like 20 of them in total. Don’t worry, it’s great~). So we get to know how both act, think, and talk to one another.

And I think Shizuku and Shiho’s relationship are much healthier than Megumi and Tsumiki’s. Since I feel like the Hinomori’s actually get to understand each other and know each other so deeply, ya know?

Yes, Shizuku took care of Shiho emotionally when their parents couldn’t (similar to how Tsumiki took care of Megumi), but Shiho doesn’t have this idealized version of Shizuku in her head where Shizuku can’t do anything wrong.

Shiho’s is super aware of Shizuku’s flaws and still accepts/loves her for it. And because of that Shiho was one of the only few people that Shizuku could comfortably be herself around and not have to live up this “perfect, mature, and mysterious” mask of Cheerful*Day Shizuku. (Of course Shizuku would still hide her pain away from Shiho during her time within Cheerful*Days but that’s a separate issue lol)

I think Shiho just idealized Shizuku a normal amount compared to Megumi imo.

But I suppose there was this one time where Shiho did almost idealize Shizuku too much tho. :oc

In a story event where Shiho remembers her first time doing an Tsukimi during kindergarten (it was the same time when Shizuku comforted Shiho when their mom wasn’t able to show up), Shiho realizes how much Shizuku has supported her while she feels like hasn’t done so towards her at all.

But within that story event, when Shiho told these feelings to the Vocaloids within her Sekai (it’s a whole lore thing lol, ya don’t need to know kek) and how Shiho really sees how much Shizuku is working hard on her profession as being an idol. Shiho felt like she couldn’t compare, and that she felt like she never had supported Shizuku like how Shizuku has supported her.

However, Miku told her that she thinks it’s not true and suggested that Shiho have supported Shizuku in ways that she didn’t even realized.

At first Shiho was hesitant about how true that statement is, but near the end of the day, when Shiho decided to watched the livestream of MORE MORE Jump…

Shiho gets to see Shizuku telling her fans how much Shiho means to her and how Shiho’s presence during her childhood has helped her immensely for she never felt alone due to Shiho always being there. And how Shiho’s determination and dedication towards her dream even during hard time has help inspire Shizuku during her own hard times to always try to do the same within her own idol career. Thus why Shizuku would wish for Shiho to let her take care of her little sister since she felt like Shiho has always supported her.

And while Shiho is a bit embarrassed that Shizuku talked about their childhood memories to her fans, Shiho is deeply touched to learn that Shiho has been supporting Shizuku as much as Shizuku has to her. Hence, put the end of Shiho idealizing Shizuku too much and think lesser about herself in comparison.

While Megumi… well. For those whose caught up with the jjk manga (honestly I haven’t caught up, i only remember reading the beginning of Gojo vs Sukuna fight before getting hyperfixated on bg3 lol), then ya know how the Fushiguro siblings storyline has ended.

i think the most gut wrecking thing to me is

learning that yusuke transfers to shujin, because i don't think we've ever really heard him talk badly about his school the same way shujin is talked about, also its like a specialized school for his art right?

why would the perfect reality be to transfer to another school that's art program is probably mid art best

also brings me back to your original point that maruki is and awful therapist because he obviously did this because he thinks joker would want all his friends at the same school but like, think about it

why the hell would joker ever want to stay in shujin willingly?

shujin from the start to end shujin was literally awful to him , the only reason he wants to stay in tokyo is because of his friends not some hell school that was ready to expel him for breathing wrong (and also no way he would want his friends to endure that)

basically everyone in shujin can choke (except for the newspaper club girl she's cool)

AUGH THE THING ABOUT IT TO ME IS LIKE. the game COULD have gone and made marukis reality perfect at least from a viewers standpoint by NOT doing all of that and incorporating jokers happiness into it so that it would seem like a really good deal, but i think like. thats one of the whole things about marukis reality. like his reality is HIS version of every one else's happiness; its what happens when one person calls everyone elses shots. im not sure if atlus went about it in the PERFECT way, because to be honest i have not spent enough time analyzing all of the moving parts, but i do think that things are meant to call attention to the fucked upness of marukis whole thing.... in the end, they dont have the agency to change, or advocate for themselves so that maruki could change it into a "better" perfect.... in the end, it just ends up being that everyone is all under maruki's thumb, absolute and no exceptions

So, I always thought that Joker should have got a FeMC equivilant with Royal. And when Violet was revealed, I thought it was her. Now, I am not a big fan of her in Royal so I am using her as the 'face' for Female Joker. Partially because there is more fanart of her so more options

Akari works as a negotiator. Arriving for business deals, hostage negotiations, anything. Wearing a.... Modified version of her old outfit to add intimidation/to throw off the opposition, she has a near 100% rate of success in scoring her client the best result. The reason it's not 100% is because she will never screw over those being victimised. If she's hired to make a negotiation against a weaker party, she will do all in her power to make it better for them.

Ren tries not to think about it until lunch time, at least, when Shiho sets her lunch down and glares at the box. "We have these strange powers. . ." She sighs. "I don't know. It feels like we could really change something for the better, though, and like we aren't even trying to." Ren can't say he disagrees. They could change something for the better. "If that other world has any impact on our world, we could." Ren taps his pen. "We don't know that for sure, though." It's all guess work and speculation. Shiho and Ren are both trying to figure something massive out from maybe three clues. "And we won't know for sure if we don't try." Shiho looks towards the door. This abandoned classroom rarely has any visitors. But it doesn't mean it has none.

First thing

(warning:all caps) HARUKA?????? LIKE THE MOMENT SHE STARTED SINGING MY JAWS DROPPED. SHE SOUNDED GORJEOUS. I REPEATED TIMESTAMP 1:28 SO MANY TIMES I HAD LITERALLY ASCENDED. RUI TOO AT 0:33 THAT WAS AMAZING. AKITO'S GROWL WAS SO GOOD. AND THE ART IS SO PRETTY THE LIGHTING THE OUTFITS THE VOCALS THE HARUKA (I really like haruka idk if you can tell). THIS WHOLE COVER HAD ME STARING AT MY SCREEN IN SHOCK. 17382947193728/10

Oughh this song...this might be my NayutalieP bias showing by this was ADORABLE. The little chibis were amazing. They really just added some of the best characters and had them sing one of the best songs in the game. The one thing that stuck out the most to me was the MIXING OMG. They all blended so well and Emu/Mizuki's vocals had me ascended. Those little symbols that represented each character was so cute (count pearl and Kohane...). I know a lot of people wasn't a big fan of the devil manners and alien alien covers but honestly their definitely my top 3.

Honestly at first I had kinda mixed feelings about this. But then I listened to it and omg. Yes. The mv is my favorite, besides maybe the Alien Alien one. I never knew I needed Toyamino in my life before this. Honestly I was never a big fan of booo, especially the MMJ cover (I'm sorry 😔) but this cover is just. Yes. Minori's chibi was so cute and THE OUTFITS??? Yeah definitely a fav.

Man, I have so many feelings about this. I love Setsuna Trip so I can't really bring myself to really hate it. Shiho absolutely ate and left no crumbs. Airi slayed just as hard in this as in the original minoairi cover. I love how everyone yells "Hah? More guitar!" I saw that some people really disliked Kanade in this but I don't think she sounded too bad! Her voice was sometimes drowned out by the music and the other voices sometimes though...but she really harmonized well with Airi and Shiho. The art and MV is so bright and flashy it makes me feel like I'm at a disco party. Kinda reminded me of an anime opening lol. Overall I think this cover was a bop

Honestly I have no really strong feelings about this. I mean Honami sounded so angelic in this and everyone harmonized so well. This was one of the rare times where the Vocaloid actually mixed really well with the others. The MV is definitely my favorite (besides maybe Devil's Manners). The art is so pretty (Mafuyu my beloved) and the purple lighting??? Yeah I'll take this. No strong opinions I just think it's really pretty. Would sleep to this.

They really just took my favorite characters and Vocaloid and made them sing one of my favorite songs. This entire cover was targeted to me. The strong vocals really made the chorus Pop Out. They all sounded so pretty please SEGA release a full version it would be a crime to not. Also the mv made all my girls look GORGEOUS. I love how dynamic(?) it is (lots of motion, idk what's the word for that). Amazing. My skin is clear. My crops are watered. My grades are up. I have 20/20 vision. The sun is shining. And it's all thanks to this cover.
