Mythoscember Day 29 - Hippocampus
Veil nebula hippocampus!!!
Why veil nebula?
Because, I threw out following the mythology long ago when I did Skyrim Arvak.
And nebulas are pretty
This was one of my favorites to do back in 2019, but man those stars are so much easier in digital...
Ugh, I just love this so much... I'm a sucker for stars

qotd: if you were a cloud, what type would you be specifically?
I mean i guess rain is like sky crying but all gray clouds don’t rain whole time and so I don’t cry all the time. But you can be gray cloud what looks sad but trying not to cry but sometimes you can’t hold it and pouring rain starts.
So probably something like that if this even made sense.

I still vividly remember one camping trip when I was about nine, we went up to the Colorado Rockies for a week, and one night my dad took my brother and I up to a little picnic area on the campground that was...I wanna say a good few hundred feet from where we set up.
There were no lightposts or poles, we were miles away from the nearest city, and I'm pretty sure we had to hike a mile or more to the nearest bathroom unless we wanted to go in the bushes.
So my dad took us to a picnic table and told us to close our eyes, so we did. He turned off the lantern and after about thirty seconds he told us to look up.
To this day, I cannot articulate the absolute magnitude of ethereal beauty that graced my young tiny self in that moment. I've tried, believe me, I've tried!
I remember opening my eyes to see fields of little lights in oceanic swaths of colours that I'd never seen before or since. I remember looking from horizon to horizon, following that thin band of darkness within the river of the Milky Way, in utter awe and fascination. I remember my mouth staying agape, staring at the great expanse of the heavens and getting lost trying to commit every little detail to my fragile memory. I remember the heartbreak when my dad turned the lantern back on and ushered us both back to the campsite, because it was way past both our bedtimes, and also past his.
I remember the night sky, even now. And I know no image or painting or computer render could ever do it justice.
I think one big reason why we don't consider the stars as important as before (not even pop-astrology anymore cares about the stars or the sky on itself, just the signs deprived of context) is because of light pollution.
For most of human history the sky looked between 1-3, 4 at most. And then all of a sudden with electrification it was gone (I'm lucky if I get 6 in my small city). The first time I saw the Milky Way fully as a kid was a spiritual experience, I was almost scared on how BRIGHT it was, it felt like someone was looking back at me. You don't get that at all with modern light pollution.
When most people talk about stargazing nowadays they think about watching about a couple of bright dots. The stars are really, really not like that. The unpolluted night sky is a festival of fireworks. There is nothing like it.

Vulcan teen on Vulcan [tiktok] saying "I have just lost track of my father in the grocery store." The camera turns to show the viewers the grocery store in which almost every single older middle-aged man has a bowlcut and long robes. Camera turns back to show the teen's face which is expressionless and yet communicates all it needs to.
#vulcans#I don't think all Vulcans dress the same and headcanon that there's a buunch of different styles on Vulcan#BUT I DO think that older middle aged men flock together regardless of species#and that it's funny that Vulcan has like The Vulcan Hair[tm] - why'd they do that to themselves HEHEHE you're lucky your dad's telepathic#I really wanna see fashion subcultures for other plaaaanets in star trek#I wanna see Klingon Goth#I wanna see fashion styles specific to that species because of that species' culture#like how we have niche niche fashion trends#the other day I thought about it being Vulcan counterculture to do your makeup as if you've been crying#popular with teens but adults do NOT like it
