oh this one is very hard, I enjoy lots of things so it’s difficult to condense down! In no particular order:

• my cat ozzy ohhh i love my lil meow meow i give him kisses on the head awww meow meow meow meow meow

• eating yummy food!! especially if I cooked it, then it feels extra satisfying! philly cheesesteak r my favorite cos it has all my favorite ingredients!

• playing my guitar/playing live shows! i thrive in metal music!! i also love listening to local bands, it’s so cool! I love creating and sharing music too!!

• rainy days!! I am quite found of grey skies and the mood that comes with rain. It’s my preferred weather!

• hanging out with my friends! nothing beats gathering together and having good laughs over some good food! Some of my fondest memories are spent with my friends!

Anyone else start as a fanfic writer then started writing your own original ideas, and the best way to do it is to write your drafts like fanfiction of your own work? Like that's the only way I get stuff done.

I write a story with the characters I like, write an arc with facts about the world and characters as it becomes relevant, no real point to the scenes except me having fun with a scene I happen to be enjoying. I take a character I wanna have fun with, say "Go do that important thing so we have a plot while you show off how cool you are", then add random ideas that sound generic but fun to act as story beats. They went to a town, they got beat up by monsters, they discovered a super power, they make friends.

I take breaks between writing the story to obsess over other stuff, then come back when I have an epiphany in the shower a month later and quickly resolve the current arc in order to jump them into the next one. Like, there's still continuity, they mention "Hey we just went through something, wanna talk about your feelings?" "Not really man, wanna go on a quest for that Macguffin and uncover our deep-seated issues that way?" "Sure!" But the story follows a barely-connected story beat with side characters and new world building for the new adventure. And then this happens over and over.

Then I come back, one day.

I'm 600 pages into this Sysphian writing style of starting arcs that have barely any organization yet undeniable continuity and I think to myself, "Man, what if I just start the whole thing over now that I know where the story KINDA goes." So I start writing my second draft...like it's a fanfic of my original draft. I can do whatever the hell I want with these quirky facts about the characters, maybe translate one hobby into a backstory, take this tragic fact about the backstory and make it into an actual trait that defines how they react to situations, take these two characters that would TOTALLY get along and make them friends, I can take a character who should be getting introduced way later and just introduce them now!

And then it's...it's good? It's something I would genuinely read without cringing at??

It's got foreshadowing and interpersonal conflict and secret passions and even more secret traumas and it's humorous and the introduction of characters or quests actually seem to...make sense??? Like oh shit there's actually a REASON we want this thing, it's not a Macguffin anymore! Oh crap these two characters who were later revealed to be related can have a really interesting dynamic if I introduce them like they know from the beginning they're related instead of dropping it like the most casual thing ever in an arc 300 pages later??? These two characters are prominent figures so they would likely get along but have SO much sass between their one braincell. Ya know, this guy would be a really great guy for them to talk to in order to solve that weakness they have, but they wouldn't fix it because they don't get along. OH MY GOD I COULD SHIP THESE TWO AND IT WOULD BE PERFECT -

And what I get is a story where a lot of things have changed, mainly plot-wise, but the bare bones of the former story is still there. I think "Would this character know anything about this topic?" and then think "Well I made them an inventor with a backstory like this, so maybe they wouldn't know it directly, but they'd know a famous story about it" or "Yeah, that knowledge works with their backstory. Actually, if I take that thing I can expand it into this whole other thing. Wait, that means they would definitely know this other character. Oh, they would NOT get along with this character, how can I get THEM in the same room?"

Bonus, because my draft is so long, I feel the natural urge to be like "I wanna write the most exciting scene RIGHT NOW, how do I skip over all the fluff to get to the stuff I wanna WORK with" and so I've written a way more interesting hook that feels more natural jumping into the middle of their lives. I don't have to have the long-winded backstory from birth to the present, but now I can have them reference their backstory as more of a mystery to the characters they just meet - who are learning at the same time as the audience. I can think about how this character perceives that backstory and chooses to describe it, how another who was related might see it differently, and make it unclear who had the more accurate recounting since, ya know, I didn't actually write it beat for beat in this version!

The characters sometimes evolve into something completely different from my original telling - and I have NO IDEA how but I'll take it man! I had a shy and nice character get introduced as a more mysterious but knowledgeable and competent character because I had finally figured his personality out later on. He's still a tragic and kind person, but now he's being introduced to someone who doesn't know him and I get to see how yo he would be so much cooler if THIS was the side of him we saw FIRST. This is how he acts to strangers, rather than bearing his heart and true personality on the first go around because in the first draft I just wanted to get to the part where we're already going with his true version.

This is just how I write fanfiction. This character had this thing about them, but what if it was introduced like THIS?!

Basically I'm an AU OC writer at heart. Ask me to pull a story outta my ass and you'll get the equivalent of burnt toast, but ask me to write a fanfic of my own characters and I am a Master Chef in my natural habitat making a buffet. Why does my brain work like this? Am I the only one that does this?

let me preface this by saying, bear with me, because although i gave this a lot of thought, it lowkey reads like a random cluster thoughts lmao. anyway, i came to the conclusion that if i ever were to potentially expand on this concept more 👀👀👀 that in my head, the boys are split into two crime families, with chan and minho being the two bosses. think of their dorm arrangements (3racha/hyune + minho and the minhoettes; if those are still their arrangements ? lol). i would also say the two families are on fairly decent terms.

chan, or should I say, chris, is the stereotypical mob boss who chooses to shield his lover from the violence and drug side of his work—but has no issue showering them with the drug and violence money. if you haven't seen goodfellas, there's a scene where karen asks henry for money to go shopping before he leaves, and he gives her half of this thick stack of cash before she drops to her knees and well... yeah. not sure why, but it gives channie vibes, imo. like he hates to be pulled away from his work, but if his baby needs him for a few minutes, even an hour or two, it isn't a problem.

i'd say as a mob boss, he's one that lurks in the shadows—he likes to protect his peace, to an extent. he'll pop out and show his face every once in a while to remind others of his territory. he's always going to get his lick back, but he plays things strategically as he's not someone who makes brash decisions; it might not happen now, but it will happen. he also tries to give back to his community and those who raised him within his neighborhood, etc. he's all about strong family bonds and despite him being feared; despite all the blood and threats, the violence and damage; he craves to be loved.

changbin, strikes me as someone who is eternally faithful to the family. maybe..even to a fault (if this were a scorsese film, i feel he'd be one of the last to be murdered; and it probably happens off screen lol). but because he is loyal, he is most definitely chan's second in command, a real right hand man. if anything has happened to chan, then changbin knows that he must not hesitate, he must not mourn or act out—but to learn from chan and play things strategically. he must assume the role of the don. off topic, imo, he's someone that might show off his partner. bringing them to poker nights so all the others can drool over them. his lover is his prize and he'd go above and beyond for them. (has definitely been set up by a lover so he doesn't trust easily, but when he does, whew, he falls head first)

hyunjin is in it for the moneyyyy.. feel like he just wants to show off and get girls (and the mens...👀) and do drugs. he just wants to have fun, most importantly. life is like a video game to him; he's kinda just doing a bunch of side quests—but he knows everyone and everything, a real socialite. kinda perceive him as a friend of the mob who has serious drug connects. since he's everywhere all the time, just being in others business feeling like the cops would be trying for yearsss to pin him on murder or intent to distribute charges but they've only got him for possession once.

now jisung confuses me just a bit. originally i wrote this paragraph about how jisung and felix remind me of lenny from shark tale (another scorsese classic, sorta). they don't seem to be cut out for the life of crime and would rather just leave and be their true selves. but them mfs r not sharks!! leaving can be potentially dangerous and often has consequences (and those two would like to keep their fingers and well, their lives).

that being said, i had been internally debating on whether or not jisung would be perceived as someone who could potentially squeal if pressured heavily—which definitely would affect his rank/status.... but I think he's dedicated to prove himself in the life he was given. likely starts of simple; he's selling drugs n stuff. then, he's even handled a couple hits—so now he's looked at with respect when around everyone. and if he's honest, to be accepted and respected means a lot to him. he almost wears his murder count with such pride. has been told time and time again, not to act irrationally.

minho, is ruthless, and would like for his other half to be equally as ruthless. for that reason, he doesn't care to shield any of his work from you, and often asks for your opinion on things. if you're in the club and somebody hits on you or tries to start shit he wants you to be able to handle yourself; thus he recognizes you are your own person and not his property. i feel like minho would want to damn near fear his lover. yet I also view him as someone who is nowhere near ready for a relationship (doesn't have the time, he says) but is always at the right longitude and latitude to fuck yk?

because min is a scorpio I am also inclined to say that he is also a boss that lurks in the shadows—pulling strings behind the scenes. he's not a show off and he's not much of a talker either so but you better believe his actions speaks volumes. he fears no one and will more than definitely make sure he makes an example out of those who fuck up. low-key god complex; everything works out in his favor, especially if he's the last one standing.

nobody knows felix is apart of a crime family and he likes to keep it that way. he flies under the radar and because of it, he's made things that seem impossible happen. he gives a very trustworthy vibe, people feel comfortable around him—he deceiving them. but it's gotten him certain connections, through certain doors, and he's learned heavy secrets (blackmail champion). his kill count is unknown. no like he flies so far under the radar, not much is known about him. still, he says a lot about himself without saying too much.

thinking that seungmin is minho's right hand—his MOST trustworthy. yet I can also see seungmin as someone who may have ulterior motives: he's making his own moves and plays behind everyones back and can be perceived as untrustworthy if anyone knew simply due to the nature of what he's doing (building his own empire maybe who knows) honestly gives hitman vibes if im real (I think there's a very thin line between hitman and serial killer yk and well...hitmen don't take trophies...) seungmin is fr someone who shouldn't be crossed. isn't into dating but he might fuck around once or twice

jeongin chases that dream to be a Made Man™ since being a kid (similar to henry in goodfellas) I would say that he's really reliable. well, until he's not. he's handsome and the ladies love him, what can he say? thus, he stays IN the club unless there's an important play to be made. he's crossed between living his young life [drugs, parties, fucking] and going for his dreams and really committing to the mob life. every so often he has phase where he's getting back into the loop of things until something traumatic happens then he's off on a 4 day binger,,

* Now since she’s half elf and vampire blood doesn’t have an effect on her only because she took majority of her mother’s side. But every once in awhile she does get the cravings often. So she drinks pigs blood and makes it into boba 🧋 (I’m assuming there’s such thing as pigs in the universe 😭)

Oh my god!! Luna making a (quick) comeback!! Yeah, so rare. I've gotten way too into Palia, I'm not gonna lie. This random thought came into my brain while I was watching random videos, "who would they go for?" and it suddenly became a need to make this. I'm not gonna make any promises, as usual, I'm just trying to get myself in the creative mood after such a long time. I'm doing this for reasons that I will 99.9% not be able to fulfill once more. I found it really hard at first, not gonna lie.

There's something about her that I feel matches Jiwoong really well.

OH GOSH I still have your other DA question to answer, just remembered when I saw this one.

AHHHHH Soooo I've only played ONE Dragon Age Game, ONCE, and it was Inquisition and I NEVER finished it, why, I don't know. I bought it on a PS Store Game sale for 12$, and I loved it so much I didn't want it to end... but I don't remember much about it because I played it 5 years ago maybe? Though I should play it again... I bought ALL the DLC for it on ANOTHER PS Store Sale for 10$, so it gives me a reason to play it again.

BUT!!

Skyhold was ALSO definitely my favourite place there too!! I romanced Dorian because I liked his character A LOT (he became my fave character in that game) and I wanted my character to tap that LOL. For all the same reasons you had, and then some... I like to do adventures and then have a mundane cooldown period doing random tasks in games I play, so it was just a nice place to do mindless things.

I loved that game, mad at myself for not finishing it. For some reason when I play American RPGs, I rarely "finish" the final quests and just mindlessly do side quests. Listen, I have a collective 1000+ hours in Skyrim (I've replayed it 3 times!!) and I have NEVER EVER finished it. I always progress as far as the point where you have to pick a side in the main story and then I just... don't? LOL. I love my last playthrough of it.

Gosh I need to replay some of this stuff, you know? I think I just... don't because I'm paying for a PS Plus Membership so I feel like I have to ALWAYS play something new from their game catalogue to get my money's worth, LOL. Ugh. I'm so weird about games.

ANYWAY, yes, I should replay Inquisition since I want to play the DLC I bought years ago, LOL. Just don't know when I'm going to squeeze it in because I am playing Outer Worlds right now (GREAT GAME), and I want to squeeze one more PS Plus game in between finishing that and when Assassin's Creed Shadows comes out in November; I pre-ordered the season pass edition so I'll be playing that for a few months LOL AHHHHHH.

Random TOTK thoughts since I'm back in work today but am very 'head empty, only Zelda' so have some things I'm in love with:

I love how, although there is some 'who are you? Oh, yes, you're that swordsman' reactions to Link, in general NPCs (especially ones who had side quests in BOTW) know who Link is. It makes everything more cohesive and gives a depth to the world for both games

All BOTW side quests are canon. Link's house (which Zelda now lives in *wiggles eyebrows*)? Canon. Tarrey Town? Canon. Yiga Hideout? Canon. Weirdly presented penpal quest that creeped everyone out? Canon but JUST FRIENDS.

Mattison implies that around 5-6 years have passed (since she didn't even exist in BOTW but now is a walking, talking, reading child...unless Gerudo grow and develop quicker than we expect). And you can see that in the age of some of the younger characters like the Sheikah and Rito kids. And it also helps with the belief that they had time to dispose/repurpose the Sheikah tech into the new tech. Especially if it all stopped working.

Link is so much more expressive this time round but in appropriate ways. They took care to not just have him blank faced or generic emotional response. The first tower scene is panic and wtf but all the ones after that are slightly different than that first one because he knows what to expect. I wish they'd had different reactions for the different geoglyphs but the spoilery post final one has a much more intense reaction at least.

I still haven't stopped opening the item menu everytime I want to change abilities...

The cutscenes are getting me right in the heart. No spoilers but I had to spoil myself for the end because I got too emotional and couldn't wait the next 100 hours it's going to take me to finish to find out how certain things are resolved.

Shrines are genuinely difficult at times. Probably because I keep underestimating some of the abilities. I've seen some uses online that are so 5 head it's unbelievable. I'm going to watch so many let's plays when I can to see how people did things differently.

I have stumbled across more than a few enemies that I have noped back out of ASAP. Even with my new confidence on fighting enemies from my recent BOTW playthrough. That is a later goal.

All the new characters and existing significant NPCs are amazing so far. And there is a lot of hope in the rebuilding which is nice despite the Upheaval. People are looking to the future everywhere and it warms your heart :)

Just Want You To Know- (oh god why am I doing this to myself) Your break-up song with him. Something happened, you two just weren't compatible in the long run, but god he misses you. He wants you to be happy, and he wants you to think that he's moving on from you, because he knows that you'd be worried and upset if you realized he was still devastated from your breakup. But he would give anything if you could try one more time. (I linked the music video cause the song is bittersweet, but the music video is so goddamned funny)

Chances- This man is a hopeless romantic. Utterly hopeless, and he is blown away by how many completely random and out-of-his-control things had to happen for you to end up by his side. It's over-the-top, dramatic, and romantic as hell.

As Long As You Love Me- Quest's Angel could come from any background, Have done just about anything, and his love would not change. He loves you, not where you came from or who you were before him. The here and now are what matter to him, and in the here and now, all he asks is that you love him.

Love Somebody- This man is so in love with everything about you. Poetic, energetic, yet really grounded in real life. These are the things he openly admits he feels about you.

Helpless When She Smiles- You would almost never be able to get him to admit it, but this song is him with you. You bring reason and life and joy to him, drive him insane, and he'd do almost anything to make you smile. You're a calm in the storm of life and his mind, but you're also a storm in and of yourself, but he'd stay in your storm forever.

Treat Me Right- This boy gets a good breakup song. Hopefully not with you. I'm kinda picturing this one as him finally leaving the ex that hurt him so badly. He adored them, and they were fine in private, but around their friends, they would talk shit about him, and be horrible to him, and he finally realizes he deserves to be treated better than that. I just can't hurt him. I really can't. His break-up song is him realizing just he deserves to be happy and treated well.

Nightowl-

Hey Mr. Dj (Keep Playin' This Song)- You and Nightowl at a club, and he's just praying that the DJ will play any song it takes to keep you in his arms. You look so good out on the floor, and he'd stay there all night with you if he could. Also, super horny song, perfect for the eager puppy :)

Passionate- ... yeah... eager, passionate nightowl... I just think that he would be this forward. Hell, he IS this forward in the game. Just... owl, please, why are you like this?

Chateau- Ok, so, Robo's headcannon that Nightowl and You divorce, but that you end up back together? This is the break-up/getting-back-together song. Nightowl still misses you, still remembers the little things about you. He meets up with you years after the divorce, just wanting to catch up, not planning on trying anything, but he then sees you and can't help himself. He'll respect what you want, but he's not letting this chance slip away. Still kinda boyish and bouncy, but matured. Perfect for 30/40 year old nightowl.

Toaster-

Safest Place to Hide- The world and work are really rough sometimes. But you and Toasty find a little peace and quiet with each other. This song just is the calm comfort that is Toasty's love for you..

Unsuspecting Sunday Afternoon- Idk, this just feels like the kind way Toaster would realize how he feels. He sees you, talks to you a few times, and he kinda has a sense of what's going on. But then there's that night, talking about Bloomic, about letting things go, and you whine when he says that you should probably log off so you can be ready for work the next day. He says goodnight, logs off, and it just. Hits him. Just how much he cares about you, how much he wishes that he could keep talking to you. It was a completely normal day, and the days are going to keep going forward, but now he knows how he feels about you, and its like the world has changed, but just for him. And he has no fucking clue if you like him too. And it kinda hurts, cause he really hopes you do.

as for his story quest or hang out (i could see him having either, but i think he'd most likely have a story quest instead of a hangout! nothing too long, but since he's the traveler's second companion a hangout event seems a little redundant - they're usually 'hanging out'! lol) i've thought about it off and on and i think it'd just be a one part quest; he doesn't remember much of his past besides vague things, so it'd probably deal with him regaining those memories.

i imagine that, fitting into a canon game timeline, he'd of regained most of his memories post-chasm yaksha event. that would've triggered a lot of his memories to come back, since the chasm is where a very significant struggle in his past took place. he's an old cat lol. if not at this time though, i can for sure see him regaining all of his memories in the sumeru archon quest line, since memory and timelines are such a big thing there. by the desert and fontaine's storylines, kou has for sure gained all of his memories and i think he'd of had a character quest by then.

i don't have anything concrete, but having him run off for a longer time than the traveler is used to having him be gone would probably be the push for them to find him/the beginning of that quest. something like paimon stating "it's been a while since kou's been around, hasn't it? where did that cat run off to now?!" and prompting the traveler to asking around if anyone's seen him (probs in liyue). little search quest, finding clues while running around liyue. find some clues at the cave that they originally found him in, maybe use elemental sight to see that he's been there recently. follow that out and find kou? something like that!

i dont think i've really written in depth on this blog about kou's background. or like. anything LMAO,,, i just share silly art that i make of him. but his story quest would be very melancholy. tl;dr, he's a nekomata originally from inazuma who was tricked into servitude and was the mochizuki clan's property (assassin? "political helper" lol??) for a few generations until towa. towa stole him away from inazuma and they went to mainland teyvat, mostly traveling mondstadt, liyue, and some of sumeru; focused on liyue though. the cataclysm happens, towa is a healer and good soul and volunteers his help; kou of course sticks by his side and fights that good fight. but towa saw how much it took out of everyone, and how even those that weren't humans couldn't handle this much fighting and suffering; towa didn't want kou's entire life to be spent fighting for others, and decided to use a bit of underhanded trickery himself, to seal kou away.

it was "for his own good", but that doesn't change that kou felt betrayed by it. he was prepared to die and would have welcomed it, if he could have perished protecting towa. he hadn't been fighting for liyue, or for the 'greater good', he'd only been fighting for towa - his "special person". that's who he was forgetting and what he felt he'd lost after waking up, and he only got vague feelings and splintered memories of happier times with him. his story quest would definitely focus on him remembering towa and the events that led up to his sealing and the betrayal he felt by it, and the pain of losing towa not only once but remembering it all over again and feeling like he'd lost him a second time.

like any good quest, there needs to be a fight >:3c which i think he'd be the boss of his own quest, with the traveler fighting him. they fought him once before when he had just woken up in modern teyvat, but by this time i think with him a lot more lucid (even if he's in emotional turmoil) they wouldn't be able to overpower him like they had before. i think it'd be a scripted end to the fight, where kou's pinned the traveler down or something but instead of finishing them off, the traveler feels tears hit their face; straddled over them, kou's chest heaved with sobs. his red eyes shone like rubies through his tears, his mouth twisted into a pained grimace. though his metal claws was poised to strike, the traveler forgot about any imminent danger to themself ; in that moment, all they could feel was a resounding sadness. something like that - kou yelling that he can't handle being left again. he doesn't want to lose the traveler like he lost towa. eventually they're going to leave, when they reunite with their sibling, right? cue traveler consoling him and calming him down, AND A HUG there needs to be a hug after all that.

as is the way, there's of course that moment after the quest where kou's just standing someplace outlooking the scenery wistfully. no further dialog from him, just one of those "he looks like he needs a minute to himself..." traveler inner thoughts pop up.

Fresh Powder in the Pine Trees; Ch. 1: Welcome to Cloud Recesses

Wei Ying is early. Wei Ying is almost never early, especially not when "early" is before dawn. But living - and now working - with Wen Qing comes with certain sacrifices. Like getting up before the sun to get to the resort by 6 a.m. so she can start setting up the clinic, even though he doesn’t have to be there for the welcome meeting until 8. 

He considered going back to sleep in one of the clinic chairs, but he was already awake and decided that he might as well stay that way. Wen Ning was there too, and together they managed to test all of the Ski Patrol radios with as many Disney songs as they could remember -- sleepy renditions of "I'll Make a Man Out of You" and "Hakuna Matata" crackling back and forth through the handhelds -- until Wen Qing kicked them out. They’d wandered up to the lodge to grab some coffee or something, but then Wen Ning left him to go meet the patrol dogs like a traitor. It is part of his job on Ski Patrol, but still. Rude. 

So, Wei Ying presses on without him and finds himself alone in the Cloud Recesses main lodge an hour before he’s supposed to be there, looking for coffee. 

The lodge is still cold from the night and smells like freshly shampooed carpets and burnt dust as the heaters work to fill the large open space with warm air. It’s still three days before the resort opens to the public and it’s so quiet. There might be ten other people in the whole building. It would be unnerving if it weren’t so damn peaceful. 

Wei Ying shivers even inside. He shrugs into his blue and white jacket with the Cloud Recesses logo on the chest and “Instructor” embroidered in white on the back. It’s a nice jacket, way nicer than he could ever afford on his own -- layered Gore-Tex with a lining that’s soft as well as warm, long enough to fit his torso without swallowing the rest of him whole. They gave him pants, too, but he leaves those in his bag until he needs them. The thermals under his ripped jeans are warm enough for now. 

Early morning light filters through the tall windows and Wei Ying can see the chairlifts, still as the trees, black-cushioned seats dusted with week-old snow. He stuffs his hands into the lined pockets of his jacket. His body is still waking up and a meandering quest through the unfamiliar lodge for coffee seems the perfect way to pass the next hour or so. If he happens to find a box of hand warmers on the way, he won’t turn one down. 

The blessed smell finds him somewhere near Ticket Sales. He follows it into what seems to be the pass office, if the corner with the camera, chair, and printer setup is what he thinks it is. The coffee pot is sitting against the wall on a little table of its own with styrofoam cups and dry creamer packets. 

“Anyone mind if I help myself here?” he says. He waits. 

His voice is loud in the empty room, but nobody responds. He shrugs and reaches for a cup. He resolves to come back when he knows people will be in here to thank them for the coffee and try to make friends. He’ll make them a new pot, if they want. He’s just pleased to have found it.

Steam warms his cheeks as he takes a sip. It’s strong and just this side of burnt; perfect for a random coffee pot in the middle of an empty ski resort lodge. He considers his quest complete. 

He turns to head back to the clinic, possibly to share his bounty, when the single most beautiful man he has ever seen stops him in the hallway. 

The man is wearing the ski resort’s colors and vest, but the blue and white don’t look like a uniform on him, they look natural. They look like his colors. He’s Chinese, but that’s not surprising at this resort or in this town, which is a very nice change of pace for Wei Ying after his last winter in Idaho. His hair is cropped short on the sides, but long enough to be wavy on top and his bangs fall artfully over his eyebrows. His eyes are honey-brown and bright. 

He looks like a fucking model. His face even has that ice-cold runway expression that accentuates his cheekbones and makes Wei Ying want to drool. Cool and unimpressed in a natural way, and Wei Ying is positive this man has been called “Ice King” at least once in his life. 

Wei Ying tries to keep from staring, he really does. But it’s early, he’s barely had a sip of coffee, and this man is just actively pressing so many of Wei Ying’s buttons. 

It’s almost a reflex (he’s not sure from where, but he’s not going to look at it too closely) to offer the beautiful man his cup. 

“Morning!” he says, instead. Trying to smile the sleep from his own eyes.

But the beautiful man huffs at just him with bored disinterest and Wei Ying somehow manages not to drop to his knees on the spot. (So. Many. Buttons.) 

“Ah… sorry. Is this your coffee? I smelled it from the lodge and called out to see if anyone was around--”

“What are you doing here?”

He’s looking at Wei Ying like he’s disrupted this man’s early morning serenity. Or like Wei Ying is the reason there will never again be serenity on Earth. 

“Ah, like I said, I was just searching for…” he trails off, raising the steaming styrofoam cup as evidence. “I’ll make you some more!” he offers, even though there is still plenty left in the pot. “Or I’ll bring you some or something. I’m a new instructor at Juniors’ Club, so I’ll be around…” Wei Ying trails off. 

The man’s eyes flare with… something. Something like anger. Or maybe just surprise? The man’s face really doesn’t give Wei Ying much else to go on. And he’s not sure what he’d said to cause such a reaction, so he just hopes that shutting up will help. His mouth has gotten him into trouble almost as much as it’s gotten him out of it. 

The silence grows heavy as neither of them move. The man’s jaw works like he’s trying out words in his head and then crushing them between his teeth, agitation mounting in the curl of his fingers. He’s still looking at Wei Ying and Wei Ying has never wanted to melt into the floor more. His eyes flick over Wei Ying’s body once, twice, then seem to settle somewhere over his shoulder. 

“Your attire is inappropriate,” he finally says. 

Wei Ying almost misses the words for the sound of his voice. It’s low and smooth, but tight with something. And the syllables are clipped like they had to fight to get out of his throat. 

But then the words catch up to Wei Ying’s brain and he blinks. He looks down at himself. He doesn’t think he’s failed to dress himself. Sure, these jeans are a bit tight, but nothing close to the tightest pair he owns, and it’s not like the snow jacket he’s wearing could be considered revealing? 

“Wha--” he starts, but the man cuts him off and… lists.

“Your jeans are torn and too thin for the weather. Your thermal layer is showing through them and it, too, is inadequate. Threadbare. Your hair is a mess. And your shoes…” He trails off with a breath that sounds exhausted and self-explanatory. 

Wei Ying looks down at his red, beat-up Chuck Taylors. They’ve definitely seen better days, but he was waiting on that first paycheck to be able to afford a new pair. He’s waiting on that paycheck for a lot of things. 

“They’re not that bad,” he says, trying not to sound as defensive as he feels. 

“There are holes in the canvas and the sole is separated at the toe. You work around snow. They are not appropriate.”

Buttons or not, the man is being a bit of a dick. And while there are certain situations in which Wei Ying is totally into that, 7 a.m. on a workday with a man he’s not fucking and whose name he still doesn’t know isn’t one of them. 

“You know this resort is mostly staffed by ski bums, right?”

“And they comport themselves in a respectable manner when wearing the emblem.”

“Oh, it’s ‘the emblem,’ got it.” Pretentious dick. 

The man’s face is still ice cold and beautiful. He’s angry -- angrier than Wei Ying thinks dress code violations warrant. But Wei Ying feels his own agitation mounting in response. Which is. Not good. 

The problem is he’s tired. And when he’s tired, his brain-to-mouth filter, well… 

"Basket or no basket?" he asks. 

The man, reasonably, returns, "Excuse me?"

And Wei Ying clarifies, "The ski pole stuck up your ass."

It’s not a good interaction. Wei Ying recognizes that even as the words are coming out of his mouth. This very sexy man is probably someone from Pass and Badge. Maybe HR; their offices are nearby, too. It won’t be great to have made an enemy this day, but maybe Wei Ying can find him and smooth it over later.

He all but sprints away after that in a valiant attempt to keep his mouth from saying any other potentially career-ruining phrases, like “fuck you” or “fuck me, please.” 

Whatever. It’s almost time for the welcome meeting anyway. He’ll deal with the consequences of his stupid runaway mouth when he’s not too tired to filter his words. It’ll be fine. Probably. 

He chugs his coffee and it scalds the back of his throat. 

When he makes it back to the main lodge dining area, people are already gathering around the quarter-cut bagels and plates of fruit. Cartons of Starbucks coffee sit surrounded by neat stacks of paper cups. There’s juice and water laid out as well. 

Wei Ying grabs another cup of coffee and then snags a seat at one of the long wooden tables next to Nie Huaisang. Nie Huaisang looks as tired as Wei Ying feels, but he perks right up when Wei Ying starts in on the tale of the Quest for Coffee and the Extremely Hot Bitch: a mildly exaggerated recounting of the morning’s events. 

Both of them are still giggling as the welcome meeting begins. 

A deep, almost-familiar voice says, “Good morning, and welcome to Cloud Recesses. My name is Lan Huan and I am the owner and director of this resort.”

There’s a sinking sensation in Wei Ying’s stomach as he looks, as the voice continues.

It’s not the man he ran into earlier. He’s about ninety percent sure. This man is still absurdly beautiful, in much the same way, but he lacks the Ice King vibes Wei Ying distinctly recalls from earlier. Director Lan is a warm person. Not the stone-cold bitch Wei Ying wanted to drop to his knees for in Pass and Badge. 

But there’s a looming sense of dread as he continues talking, greeting familiar faces and smiling at all of the new ones. 

“I’d like to welcome back Wen Qing as our clinic’s head nurse. We appreciate the changes you’ve made and thank Caiyi Town Hospital's emergency department for lending you to us for a third year in a row.”

(In truth, Wen Qing volunteers every year, practically begs to go, and they let her because the ER doctors can only take so much of being told they’re wrong to their faces.) 

Wei Ying lets the genuine smile on Wen Qing’s face distract him for a moment. He waves and gives her a double thumbs-up from his seat. She waits until she steps away from the director and out of the (metaphorical) spotlight to roll her eyes pointedly at him. She takes her seat back among the row of people Wei Ying presumes to be department heads (he recognizes Nie Mingjue and Uncle Song among them), right next to--

“That's the guy.”

Nie Huaisang looks at him and tries to follow his eyes. “Which one?”

“That guy,” Wei Ying doesn’t point so much as gesture subtly, “the one next to Wen Qing.”

“That’s the guy?!” 

The sinking feeling returns with a vengeance at the alarm in Nie Huaisang’s whisper. And then doubles down at the glee that Nie Huaisang fails to suppress in his eyes. Nothing good can come from this. 

“Oh no. What, is he my boss?”

Nie Huaisang stops trying to hide the glee altogether, embracing it, almost cackling with it. "Dude, he's not just your boss,” he says, “he's your boss's boss. That's Lan Zhan, the director of Ski School."

Oh no. 

"Lan Zhan?"

He thought Director Lan’s voice and face were too familiar. Turns out --

"Yeah, he's the owner's brother."

-- “family” was on the right track. 

“Right...”

The owner's brother. Who runs Ski School. Which runs Juniors' Club. 

Wei Ying slumps in his seat and resigns himself to teaching the 4-6 year-old ski lessons until closing day. 

Fuck.

omg im so done i had to run. to the other side of the CITY. to deliver some random bullshit to a family member who hates my guts and keeps hitting me just so that he could go and be like. "umm you werent fast enough". ok. i go home. i asked my mom for tea once i get back. she goes "sure". she forgot it. im like ok whatever. she just starts talking on the phone with some friend. friend is boasting on how annoyed she is about the fact that homeless people with blankets walk around and stay inside the heated waiting rooms of train/bus/metro stations. she talks about how so many of them end up dead or genuinely murdered at the late hours and how annoying that is to her because more of them pop up after that. she tells the story of some other day how she kicked out some homeless woman from the station and ridiculed her because the woman said she had a job which this friend didnt believe. my mom nods along to this and talks about how "there is so many stupid people in this world". the cop guy starts messaging on how there's new supplies of outfits and guns that are being registered and shipped around in his name. he comments on how he hopes that these won't have to be refunded and get a legal process on it because as always he mentions periodically, every young person coming to work with them eventually kills themselves on-duty and he has to "clean up" their "belongings". he is still on his quest to get me to work there with him on this. right now as all of this is going down i am pretty much late to a meetup of a family member of mine who pretty much guilted my mom into forcing me to visit them. they will tell the stories (which are just everyday retellings) of all the illegal things their company does with them, chemically poisoning and burning their skin, illegally revoking days, the disgustingly inhumane working condition, the sewer water they're working in with the electrical cords sparkling next to them, and ill just hear this over and over again. im sorry but i am just so tired of all this like i hate all these people i hate everything that is going down and i hate the fact that im a part of this and i hate how this entire "family blood bond" goes so far . my mom already disowned me as her child but since im not married im also not my own person for her. so i cant act physically go anywhere alone i cant have my own money since she'll just steal it all i can't buy anything cuz she'll intentionally break it. im just so done with everyone i know im done with the fact that i barely have anything and i cant do anything and that i get to hear all these fucking horrible shit played along as normal by people of zero morals. like i need to burn myself and all my belongings down and start from scratch i genuinely just feel like im in quicksand and will always be as long as im here

Mostly Yandere writer- just cuz I'm good at it than anything else

No smexy time bcs I'm gonna get cancelled if I even tried- so yeah no not happening.

I'm not one to write long stories or pieces in general- just because my organization can get shitty- really shitty. I try to keep it at headcanons, blurbs, and longer pieces are like 1k-3k depending on the matter. If I know the plot isn't bad I could probably write more honestly.

My writing does have topics like manipulation, blood, murder and you know- the things you would perhaps see in anything yandere related. If you don't like this then please take your leave because I do try to ensure I put warnings down for everything.

Unless specifically requested for male or female MC I keep my MC genderneutral-

I'll take like 3 requests at a time- since as you know, I have 2 other blogs and I have like...25 requests in total on my main. So I think you can understand the low number. That being said, it might take me a while- depending on how busy I am on my main and my life.

A few guidelines in case someone requests something:

Please put detail if you can- it makes the writing process faster and makes my planning easier, and more well-defined.

This isn't needed, but just so I have a better idea- put like a horror rating of 1-10. On my main ppl have asked me to go heavier on the horror and I'm not sure how far I should go- so just cuz. Yes, it is absolutely ok to put a 1.

For characters coded children will only be written platonically (Ex. Qiqi, Diona)- this doesn't include the teens (Ex. Razor, Xiangling)

I've like barely touched Sumeru lore surprisingly and haven't watched gameplay of the main quests so- I need to catch up really badly. That being said, any Sumeru characters I will research heavily before I dare write for them.

Put either romantic or platonic on your requests please- otherwise I will hold myself back on the romantic and barely write anything remotely romantic- (my main has caused me a lot of weird habits help-)

(I haven't had the chance to play his quest yet, so forgive me if this clashes against anything we learned).

Your fingers were already twitching to get back on the machine that lay before you again, aching to touch, to explore, to learn every crevice better than you know the back of your own hand. After all, what were some calloused hands covered in knicks from the times you forgot to put on gloves compared to this beauty before you? Shining in the low light of the lamp you had flicked on to get a better look at this cyborg and the holographic screen currently pulled up with its blueprints. Or, what you could make of them with the screening you did.

There was a lot to uncover here between layer upon layer of metal plating, cables, and tech you had never seen before. Each little detail reflects a neon blue in your eyes as you take it all in.

This would be worth the headache you'd get later. A few pills aren't enough to equal out to the marvel you had access to.

Well, keyword here being had as that space cowboy groaned as he woke up. His hands immediately ran over the once damaged torso he had come to you for.

Just thinking about it had you clicking your tongue. Annoyance is clear in your expression as you meet Boothill’s eyes. Another thing you want to dissect, but it's best not to look too over excited. Not yet, anyhow.

“What kind of idiot gets hit by a ray gun and decides the best thing he can do in the moment is stumble into some random shop for cover?”

He was just lucky you knew a thing or two about this stuff, though the sign outside reading ‘repair shop’ must have been what drew Boothill in. He's literate, at least. That or extremely lucky.

“I wasn't exactly in the best spot to fuck around, so I had to get my shit together. Pull myself up by my bootstraps and figure out what backup plan I could rely on. Stumblin’ in here just so happened to be my plan to make a break for it.”

And he had a foul tongue.

Your fingers danced over the blueprint again, scouring it over with the same intensity you did the gift that had quite literally dropped at your door to find where his Synesthesia Beacon is. You'll have to alter that later, maybe make it so he can't speak to you so crudely. After all, something even Aeons themselves would stop to take a spared glance at shouldn't be so crass.

“I was under the impression a southern gentleman would know it's best not to waggle his tongue like that in front of someone he's in debt to.”

“Nah, that ain't it. That's for ladies and fine folks and from what I can see,” his eye (the one you can see) looked around your workshop, taking in the tools lining the walls, the rags thrown around the disposal bin, and finally: you. You in your oil covered glory with specks of ash on your cheek from trying to scratch an itch with your gloves on. “You ain't no lady.”

“Oh yeah?” You asked, head cocking to the side.

“‘Sides, I'm not a stick up the ass southern gent either.”

“Seems we're at a draw then.”

You rolled your eyes as he said something about a standoff. Boothill really is playing into every cliche you know about those western movies from the planet Earth. Dingy old hat all the way down to the spurs on his boot.

Wait a minute, are his shoes part of his leg, and he just has a sole slapped on the bottom?

That's gonna have to be addressed later too.

“So, space cowboy, are you going to tell me how you got into trouble in the first place? That way, I know what to chew you out for.”

“Don't see how that matters to ya, mechanic. ‘Sides, it all worked out in the end, didn't it?” Boothill shrugged.

He was so lax. Far too casual about nearly destroying something so state of the art even the friend you had called in to discuss what parts needed to be replaced couldn't be named. Though, she did give you an odd look on her way out.

“Alright Boothill, it seems we need to lay down some ground rules.” You marched over to him, not caring one bit as the man flinched the moment your foot stomped down between his open legs (not that you're sure he has anything down there anyway).”First, open communication does tend to help in new partnerships.”

Boothill’s eyes flicked from your well-worn boots, tattered at the edges, revealing the steel toe underneath, back up to you. “Partnership? Are you for fucking real?”

“Dead serious.”

He had a little bullseye for a pupil, glaring up at you in what you could only guess is annoyance or pure unbridled astonishment that you'd go around ordering the guy who had tried to grasp for his gun to point at your head as he came in.

You'd have to see if the other eye matches sometime.

“Come on, Boothill, whoever was fixing you up before clearly wasn't who you ran to, meaning you had no other choice.”

“I was in a bit of a pinch you see.”

You gestured to one of the plates on his chest, one crossed over with a giant X that had your eye twitching at the thought someone dared to damage this body in such a way. Or at all, really. “And when I get the material in for your ‘pec’ there, I can fix you up and make you look all…spiffy.”

Sure, that sounded like something a cowboy would say.

He snorted out a laugh, and you couldn't help but wonder if he could huff out steam if his body was overheating to help cool it down. After all, it would only make sense that Boothill had some sort of internal system to keep the heat down.

“And what the fuck makes you unable to do it now?”

“The IPC. What you're made out of, buddy, is hard to come by when they have a monopoly on the metal.” You said as you tapped his chest, your knuckle rapping against the very plating you were talking about.

Boothill couldn't help but scoff, his lips curling up to reveal the sharp teeth you had run your finger over before to figure out what their purpose was.

To help make bullets, you learned.

Truly, whoever made this machine, this Aeonsend itself, was a genius beyond your caliber, but you had to start somewhere to grow even if it meant studying their work with a fever.

“You're about as crazy as a loon, pardner."

Your brow quirks at the word, ‘partner’ coming from the man who had literally just been whining about the idea of collaborating before.

His mind seemed to change far too quickly, settling on one thing to the next with an ease you'll have to learn to get used to. Still, you held out your hand as you asked: “So it's a then deal, cowboy?”

“It's a deal.”

His hand fit perfectly in your own, digits that flexed with ease despite their composition, the cold feel of metal you've grown so used to, and the WD-40 you had used to shine him up all clean earlier.

You'd have to figure out how his hand worked, too.

he's laying on a metal slab in your lab, half of his chest popped open, your fingers fiddling inside with the tubes that feed into a fuel tank. you acquired top-grade Neutrinoil(TM) and you simply HAD to deep-clean and upgrade his plumbing. so he has to watch and bear it while you're straddling him, hands in his guts, cooing about how perfectly efficient he's about to be, how much energy he'll have, how that "awesome new engine's gonna exploit every last drop, not an inkling wasted, and this beautiful machine will run for ages."

"if ya like it so much, why not drop by my ship later? i could show ya a trick or two. put that new energy to use."

you perk up with excitement, and for a glimmering instant he thinks he's got it in the bag, until you gleefully announce, "oh, no, let's do it in my workshop! i'll hook you up to the scanners first, i must collect as much data as possible!! wait, is it a physical trick or should i also plug in the peri-mental data receptors?"

Writing An Exchange Book Review

    As a minor author, trying to get readers interested in my books has been difficult. I am competing with new, seasoned, and dead authors. Standing out is quite challenging.

    Getting more book reviews is one way to get in front of the pack. I started my quest by begging friends to read my book and post a review, but I quickly exhausted this resource. So, I contacted random authors to ask them to exchange reviews. This effort has been mostly successful, and with a lot of hard work, my first book now has 58 reviews. Yay!

    I thought it would be fun to explain my process. It begins by selecting an author to approach. I first examined their content to see if I was interested in this. I also read the book descriptions, and Amazon usually allows potential readers to review the first chapter. Existing reviews are also an excellent resource.

    My ultimate deciding factor is to ask myself, “If somebody gave me this book for free, would I read it?” The answer must be between “yes” and “I guess so.”

    A key aspect to getting the other author to agree is to include a brief book description. The idea is to warn them off if my books are not their cup of tea. “This is a first-person drama about a vampire who forces an author to interview her. It contains mild gore.” Including this basic information has saved me tons of grief. Plus, I get better results.

    I do not target big-time authors; instead, I go after new authors with two or fewer books. We are in the same boat, which is amateurs with potential. We figured out how to throw a .epub file on Amazon. Side note. 99.999% of the population has not achieved this worthy goal. Yes, we are truly better people.

    However, there is a problem with this class of authors. Only a few people have read their book, and there will be grammar, spelling, formatting, plot, logic, character, and description issues. Run-on sentences that run on while they are running on? You bet!

    There is another problem with this kind of exchange. Authors spend a lot of time writing. This means other books… Well… Suck. Why? They do not have our type of characters, story, writing style, or book category. As a result, authors in a review exchange need to accept that they only like a specific type of story and can spot writing flaws like a hawk.

    Allow me to re-state the above paragraph. Just because a writing style is unique, that does not make it wrong. For example, I have never encountered two books that use the same dialog integration format.

    There is a particular category of book that has a unique problem. If the book contains heavy fantasy, science fiction, alternate reality, or superhero, the author must immediately pull the reader into an alternate reality. That transition is ultra-difficult, and the pitfalls are immense. Want proof? Have you ever met a vampire? Will you? Of course not. Now, let me try to convince you (in my book) that vampires live next door. And we are on Mars…

    The fantasy category has another problem. These authors have lived in their wacky, made-up world for years and have difficulty thinking like a reader. This book class needs far more beta reading, editing, and concept work than a standard book. Of course, amateur authors do not have this extensive network of support. Therefore, I take special care when considering this book category for an exchange. I guarantee these stories will be a bumpy ride.

    I also do not do an in-depth plot investigation. People reading reviews want clear highlights. “Outstanding book, worth purchasing.” To explain this issue, I found this deep-dive movie review for Clear and Present Danger. It is too highbrow for the average reader and does not provide a quick path to “buy it now.”

    There’s a little bit of Mr. Smith in Ford’s Jack Ryan, and there’s a little bit of Capra in the techno-thriller as written and rewritten by Donald Stewart, Steven Zaillian, and John Milius. Unfortunately, this calls for an overblown denouement in which an outraged Ryan gives hell to the chief. This exchange of “how dare yous” aside, the film is certainly more adult in terms of real issues than “True Lies.”

    Four of my exchanges were awful, and I can trace the issue back to an exchange partner who did not go into the process with the right mindset.

    Now that I have a book to review, I read it cover to cover. While doing so, I take notes, including the main character’s name, locations, plot, and other vital details. Plus, I informed the author about major type-os. If the issues are too numerous, I will say, “Hey, I spotted a few errors. I suggest you give it another self-edit.”

    What if the book is below average? I am good at locating positive points and cheerfully describing them. So far, I have not encountered a book so bad that I had to call off the exchange.

    I know how difficult it is to put something out for the world to tear down. There is so much competition. Plus, famous authors have already written easy-to-write concepts to death. It nearly impossible to come up with something new. Plus, books are 60-200 thousand words, meaning there are 60-200 thousand places to make mistakees! See, nobody is perfect.

    How long does the entire review take? Typically, a week of reading, twenty minutes to write, and fifteen minutes to edit. Do I cheat by reading the existing reviews and making something up? No, I consider this to be dishonest.

    I shoot for a 200-word review and take a three-paragraph approach. The first contains an introduction and what the book is about.

     “A friend recommended The Title by Major Author, and the description sounded interesting. Major began his story in a dystopian future where America has suffered a horrific war. A nation formed from destruction, and the new government thrived. However, Tony and her misfit friends suspect something is not right.”

    You will note the lack of gushing descriptions or endless compliments. Why? This is how genuine reviews read. “Hey, I got this book, and it was cool.”

    My second paragraph describes the story and answers why it is a good read.

     “Unlike other time travel stories, Major Author thoroughly analyzes the science necessary to make time travel possible. Major put much effort into explaining exactly how time travel technology worked. The unique plot revolved around a daughter attempting to prevent her mother’s death in the past while the Time Cops stop ‘him’ in the future.”

    The last paragraph contains praise, but it should not be over-the-top.

     “The Title contains great dialog and superb descriptions. I loved the Australian twang and friendly interaction. I recommend this book to three friends and look forward to Major Author’s next work.”

    That’s it! It’s a three-paragraph review, but I intentionally let out some details. How about a good quote? Some review sites ban reviews with quotes, and they have burned me more than once. I avoid giving away the plot because that is what the book blurb is for.

    I enjoy review exchanges and read many books I would have never picked up. The wonderful authors have provided great tips and pointed out ways to overcome my writing flaws. With some luck, I will reach my goal of 100 book reviews per book, bringing me one step closer to being recognized.
