The power of having a Hispanic family that have impossibly high standards is being able to manage multiple personalities/identities like a pro. Going to my Grandma's house? Boom, I'm suddenly a Catholic girl that loves dresses and sewing. Dad's house? I'm a carefree and forgetful girl. Mom's house? I'm a straight-A student, with perfect attendance that knows 5 languages and can draw. Honestly sometimes I forget how I really am until I go on social media or go with my friends.

People have been telling me horror stories since last week.

My sister, apparently, screamed the whole time because mom forgot to schedule with an anesthesiologist so they only had laughing gas.

Mom was sick to the point where they had to go back and get a shot.

My grandma (mom's mom) wasn't allowed to go under or get laughing gas because she's in her 80s (not a wisdom teeth appointment)

My grandma (dad's mom) was also sick, but had my aunt with her to calm her down.

Mom's aunt's friend (or sister? someone) had the root still growing, so they had to do an emergency procedure or something.

Anyway.

I'm not allowed to eat for up to 8 hours before the appointment. Just to be safe, I was told 12 hours before. So, as soon as it hits 00:30, I can't eat anything. When it hits 04:30, I can't drink anything. If I do, then they'll call off the whole appointment.

Sigh...

I feel like I've just eaten my least meal on Death Roe...

i do love beard's tendency to learn. like. he truly loves taking in new information, and he loves teaching himself new things. a walking encyclopedia. if he doesn't understand something? he researches it. he takes the time to look it up, read about it, etc. beard's knowledge of things is very vast, and it's anyone's guess as to what beard might know. whether it's about fungi, the history of baseball, biology of trees, the dutch language, several pop culture related things, etc . . . it's a good guess that beard'll know something.

Oi. Just an aside thought I find myself pulling to the fore again.

Is just kinda wishing I had the cognitive space to really learn another language. (In terms of available mental energy for it and also having some formalized courses on it. I generally feel I learn better in a structured way like that.)

The big three on the bucket list (not necessarily in order):

Spanish - just, it's extremely practical, too, given just how much USAmericans speak it. (Obviously in just the immediate sense, but also. I do love learning abt dialects in any language - Spanish very much inclusive. Like It's neat even just getting whiffs of differences between different Spanish-speaking countries. Even tho I have a practically non-functional amount of fluency.)

American Sign Language - also from a practical angle. But it's also intuitively and structurally extremely fascinating. (I've taken an intro class in college an eternity ago - and I just remember some Deaf culture history pts + some syntax and spatial relations in signing. Like - shit like relating time/tense is just really neat.)

Korean - to maybe, maybe rekindle what little connection I still have to my mom's side of the family and her culture. I just… yeah. (Cue some feelings of grief and missed opportunities in this one.)
