i'm writing an outline for my oral bookreport for school. And i chose to read the old guard graphic novel because i love it and it's so rare that we get to choose a graphic novel. And now i have to figure out how to describe Joe and Nicky's relationship without telling my class that they are in a real, gay relationship.
You might ask why? Becasue my class is really queerphonic and i don't want defend myself and the book for an hour.
Why did you choose it then you may ask. bc i made it my mission to present increasingly gay books without telling them outright how gay they are. Maybe they are going to read them.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo Book review
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid (2017)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Tumblr media
"Doesn't it bother you? That your husbands have become such a headline story, so often mentioned, that they have nearly eclipsed your work and yourself?" "No," she told me. "Because they are just husbands. I am Evelyn Hugo. And anyway, I think once people know the truth, they will be much more interested in my wife." (p. 385)
i finished this book september 11, 2023 at 2am because this is a book you can't put it down!
the story follows Monique Grant, a small magazine writer in New York, getting the proposition of her dreams! for some reason, old Hollywood star Evelyn Hugo has requested her specifically for an interview, to the confusion of her boss and Monique herself. Then, when she meets the icon, Evelyn claims she wanted Monique for a specific reason and also not for an interview, but a biography, that will be released after her death. Evelyn is sharing the story of her life, a story surrounded by lights and fame, of blitz and glamour and also of a forbidden love and found family. At the end Monique learns of a truth that shakes her very being.
this book is so beautiful, so touching, outstanding and spectacular and at this point the best book i’ve read all year, maybe even in a while.. i dont have anything negative to say, such a good experience it was to read! 💖 the life of Evelyn Hugo and how it affected Moniques life is such an amazing journey to take and i recomend it to everyone who is interested in historic books and LGBTQ+ stories. 🌈
the trip back in time to the blitz and glitz of old Hollywood, through the lens of Evelyn Hugo, a character based on all the movie actresses of the old times, told through eras of the husbands, telling the story of the truest deepest love and such a beautiful found family that will make every queer person jealous 😍
i love this book much more than what i had expected i would and its my advice not to let the hype ruin this for you, in the case that anyone reading this hasnt already read the book. Should you come across it, do yourself a huge favor and read it, it's not that long, and you'll thank me ❤️

Book review: Nina Lacour
Tumblr media
Rating:
We Are Okay - 2⭐️
Hold Still - 3⭐️
The one thing that caught my eye about these books was the cover. Then I read the comments and they pulled me towards the book. I like a good depressing book, and so I had my expectations high. However, I was disappointed. Perhaps it was due to the high expectations brought upon me by all the hype, but for me it just didn't measure up. I expected to feel a bit more. It was an easy read, though, and I don't think it was too much of a waste of time. They are both good young adult readings.
These books are about the loss of someone close, and the mourning and recovering that comes with it, not only individually but also collectively. You learn to be alone, and that moving on is not at all a blasphemy. You have that right. These books also includes queer characters and, considering the years in which they were published, I think that was important as well. It was emotional, I enjoyed reading it and following their evolution. I recomend them to you all, because they cover topics that need to be discussed. However, in the end it didn’t captivate me as much as I wanted it to, it wasn’t very impactful, and I also don’t think that will leave an impression on me, in the future.

just finished the book what the fuck
Tumblr media
Disjointed thoughts below the cut. tl;dr highly recomend this book. SPOILER WARNING
GOOD BOOK.
only critique is i think the ending wrapped up really cleanly in a way where i'm deeply having to suspend my beliefs with regards to like. Daphne and Silas being able to 1) BOTH pass in public immedietly 2) so cleanly smooth over all the, yknow. murder of multiple powerful people and such 3) Lord L being so chill about Braxton freezing over and saying it wasn't Silas' fault? like that was strange. but i guess he just wanted to fuck him so :/ maybe he was just lying idk
Other things: i LOVE when queer characters are written well and are clockable in text, i.e. when they don't have to come out for you to KNOW/you know before it is textually mentioned, specifically due to them being written with like. The Knowledge. like how Gideon never says she's a lesbian etc but u KNOW. anyway i knew something was up w Daphne immedietly (hooray!) and Mary as well..... angry dyke alert!!!
more thoughts.... really love how this book Went There wrt depictions of things that are deeply upsetting, because it wouldn't make sense for the plot and setting for it to be held back at all. felt very genuine, visceral. Loved the action scenes. also loved some of the musings Silas had about gender and society and such, it all felt like. earnest? in ways that often ping me as "gender 101 has entered the chat" but mostly felt fine here
i think those are all my immediate thoughts. ✌️ i feel like i only have 1 way to read books and that's a violent binge that leaves me staring at the wall
book update, i started reading the spirit bares its teeth today and it is REALLY GOOD (currently on ch 4). highly recomend picking it up im excited to read more. also i am reading it as a PHYSICAL BOOK (‼️‼️‼️) which is a real game changer tbh. ive been on a streak of ebooks/audiobooks for convenience/reading while driving-ability for the last several years but there really is nothing as good as book in my hands

hi! ive always thought that i was comfortable with my gender but lately ive been thinking about it a lot and im not so sure about it anymore. im not in a safe environment so i cant explore it too much. just wanted to ask u about some articles/books or any piece of media that you would recomend to explore gender and have a better understanding of it. u can totally ignore this if u dont feel like answering, it might be tiring and its not your responsability to help/educate me.
thank you so much for waiting on this, it’s been a busy week and i wanted to give you a thoughtful response
i completely understand what you’re going through. i personally grew up conservative and did not get the chance to experience lgbt/queer lifestyle until i left home. it’s very frustrating to not be able to explore who you are until adulthood and i empathize
one thing that important to remember as far as gender and sexuality go is that you don’t need to know who you will be tomorrow, the next day, next year, or in 2050. all you need to know is who you are in this moment, and all anyone has to understand is who you say you are. you don’t have to decide who you will be for the rest of your life right this second, you just have to Be.
and there doesn’t have to be a label on it either. lie to the barista when they ask your name, refer to yourself as a man or woman or nonbinary person, make and consume art about trans and nonbinary people but don’t rush to box yourself in. you will grow into yourself. be patient.
it’s hard when you’re closeted. my best advice is make friends with other trans people. trans forums on reddit and trans communities on here are very helpful. even more helpful are in person communities. great places to start are zine libraries and anarchist bookstores. it might be hard to believe in certain areas but i promise there are some near you. google is your friend 💜
if you have trouble finding those, planned parenthood in your area can help. check them out :)
some books:
- stone butch blues (duh)
- everyone is gay by kristin russo (who is a friend of mine!! her work is great even if this is a little dated now)
- quick and easy guides series from oni/limerance (my book will be part of this but there’s some really excellent gender ones)
and good luck anon!

Hi! I just read the all for the game series and i absolutely loved it. If you haven't read it - its a ya book it includes serious issues (rape, figts, drugs, self harm...) there's action and mafia stuff and so on...obviously its also gay - i liked it bc bing gay wasn't the main plot of the book -- the main character just fell in love with a guy and that's something i would love to see more off. So if you have any recomendations of similar books - so action, serious drama, and queer representation i would love to read it
I asked a friend who has read and enjoyed All for the Game (and who has their finger to the pulse of YA) and they came up with some comps!
The Friend Scheme by Cael Dietrich (storygraph) High schooler Matt's father is rich, powerful, and seemingly untouchable—a criminal with high hopes that his son will follow in his footsteps. Matt's older brother Luke seems poised to do just that, with a bevy of hot girls in tow. But Matt has other ambitions—and attractions. And attraction sometimes doesn't allow for good judgement. Matt wouldn't have guessed that when he makes a new friend, one who is also carrying a secret. The boys' connection turns romantic, a first for both. Now Matt must decide if he can ever do the impossible and come clean about who he really is, and who he is meant to love. via The Storygraph
Once and Future by Cori McCarthy and Amy Rose Capetta (storygraph) When Ari crash-lands on Old Earth and pulls a magic sword from its ancient resting place, she is revealed to be the newest reincarnation of King Arthur. Then she meets Merlin, who has aged backward over the centuries into a teenager, and together they must break the curse that keeps Arthur coming back. Their quest? Defeat the cruel, oppressive government and bring peace and equality to all humankind. No pressure. via The Storygraph
Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas (storygraph) Yadriel has summoned a ghost, and now he can't get rid of him. When his traditional Latinx family has problems accepting his true gender, Yadriel becomes determined to prove himself a real brujo. With the help of his cousin and best friend Maritza, he performs the ritual himself, and then sets out to find the ghost of his murdered cousin and set it free. However, the ghost he summons is actually Julian Diaz, the school's resident bad boy, and Julian is not about to go quietly into death. He's determined to find out what happened and tie off some loose ends before he leaves. Left with no choice, Yadriel agrees to help Julian, so that they can both get what they want. But the longer Yadriel spends with Julian, the less he wants to let him leave. via The Storygraph
The Extraordinaries by T.J. Klune (storygraph) Nick Bell? Not extraordinary. But being the most popular fanfiction writer in the Extraordinaries fandom is a superpower, right? After a chance encounter with Shadow Star, Nova City’s mightiest hero (and Nick’s biggest crush), Nick sets out to make himself extraordinary. And he’ll do it with or without the reluctant help of Seth Gray, Nick's best friend (and maybe the love of his life). via The Storygraph
Wolfsong by T.J. Klune (storygraph) Like All for the Game, this series deals with heavy topics, which has led to a lot of fan crossover - but be forewarned, this series is not YA! I advise checking out a list of content warnings in advance.
In my own digging, I happened upon Tom Ryan, who might be an author to look into. His books, such as I Hope You’re Listening and Keep This to Yourself seem to have dark themes and high tension. The Girls I’ve Been by Tess Sharpe also looks promising.
If you don’t mind fantasy elements, there’s also Legendborn by Tracy Deonn, Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan, We Ride Upon Sticks by Quan Barry, and The Raven Cycle series by Maggie Stiefvater - which I know has some crossover fandom with All for the Game.

🦚 - Are there any queer books/shows/etc. that you would suggest? 🏳️‍🌈 - Do you enjoy the colors of your preferred flag? Do you incorporate it into your outfits, decor, etc.? 🏳️‍⚧️ - What Flag do you think has the best color scheme? Sorry if it’s too much
nah there isn't such a thing as too much when it comes to asks. i love them! thank you!
🦚 - Are there any queer books/shows/etc. that you would suggest?
man or man you discoverd a black hole. i just cannot, when i do recommendations, stop at one, two or three max shows i absolutely want people to watch. so prepare yourselves for a long list
ah, was i supposed to specify what "queer show" means? i'm not sure i know exactly, so i'll just list titles that i like with open queer characters
i'll do the ones, that has canonical bisexuals (cause i feel like we could use some bi visibility)
1. stumptown. it's a show about the true bi-saster, dex parios. did i mention she also has ptsd? did i mention whe also has autistic brother? didi mention she's played by cobie smulders? and she's also badass! i have a crush on her. show's funny and other characters aee great as well. be aware tho, the show was canceled after the first season. sadge
2. everything sucks! the show was also canceled. sadge. and also it's about a lesbian. but there's a bi character in it, and the story is great, also atmosphere is so nice, and overall anly positive feelings
3. atypical. it's okay, i guess. i fucking hate it tho. i shipped these two bi girls so hard tho. i fucjing hate how the show handled it all tho. can anyone ask me why i hate cazzie so much? i'll gladly answer! untill then, the show is nice, humor is excellent, and the main char is autistic as well, and there are TWO bi character, how cool is that? i hate it tho. so fucking much (and i haven't seen the 4th season, btw. i should)
4. harley quinn. ???? if you okay with violence, it's a great show!
5.the bisexual. i guess i wouldn't fully recomend it, i feel like it's not everyones cup of tea, but i just think more people should know it existed. it's about a bi woman who her whole life pretended to be a lesbian and now trying to reunderstand herself
6. the owl house. almost forgot about the owl house. did you know luz is bi? i cannot wait for the show to admit it (writing fanfiction about herself and fictional men doesn't count, lesbian amity did it as well)
7. dead to me. i wouldvery much recommend it to everyone! tho there isn't that much queerness, buti promise you, it's all worthit!
8. arcane. i don't care, vi is bi, and so is cait. i don't care.
i guess that's it. the list isn't as long as i would want it to be((((((( there are so little good things with canon bi's as you see...
as for the books, i've stopped reading them before i stopped being homopgobe so i don't have any recomendation on this regard
anyway, the peice of media that made me stop being homophobe - the game life is strange. the main char is also bi how cool is that!
🏳️‍🌈 - Do you enjoy the colors of your preferred flag? Do you incorporate it into your outfits, decor, etc.?
at first i didn't really care for the colors of bi flag, but when time went past it grew on me, and i genuinely think it's the best flag ever. i don't it anywhere really, partly cuse i'm closed irl, partly cause i don't really like the ideaofusing flags' color schemes in anything otger than flags or tge images of flags, and partly cause i'm bad at colors, like my favourite color is violet and i have approximately 0 (zero) pieces of clothing in violet, so...
🏳️‍⚧️ - What Flag do you think has the best color scheme?
yeah, bi flag, for sure for sure
and again, thanks for the asks!

LGBTQIA+ BOOKS
To celebrate the beginning of Pride Month, I want to talk about one of the things that I love and that’s BOOKS. And not just books, but books that feature LGBTQIA+ characters and story lines.
You have no idea how excited I get when I find out a book includes a queer character. (Especially when it is done in a new and exciting way without stereotyping)
This post will feature some of my favorite queer books that I have read. I will include a brief description of why it is on this list and I will also link it to a Goodreads page where you can read all about it.
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz - First of all, it is beautiful. It’s about two boys, who are best friends that fall in love. You get to follow Dante as he explores and dicovers his sexuality, Ari as he defends Dante and pretends he’s not totally in love. They both have amazing accepting parents. Did I also mention, they are Mexican. What more could you want?!?!
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell - A fantacy spin-off baced on a fanfiction from Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Baz is a hella gay magic vampire who just wants to get good grades, make his family happy and kiss Simon before they have to kill each other. Simon Snow is the oblivious chosen one who is convinced that Baz is up to something and just wants to live up to everyones expectaion of him. Correct me if I am wrong but I’m pretty sure he is BI. Adorable, must read!
Fan Art by Sarah Tregay - Jamie is in love with his best friend Mason. All the fangirls in art class ship it. After being tasked with publishing a cute queer comic in the schools magasine, things get out of hand for Jamie as he tries to keep his sexuality and crush a secret. Another lighthearted cute story about crushes and missing some obvious signs.
How They Met by David Levithan - A collection of stories about love. Including a lot of same sex relationships. Both cute and angsty stories, a good variety and very well written with a great story behind how the collection came to be.
Grasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith - Follows a possiably bisexual character as he sorts through his feelings regarding both his girlfriend, and his best friend Robby. At the same time, the world is coming to the end at the hands of some very large praying mantises. Unbelievably unique and disturbing in the BEST way.
Cherry by Lindsey Rosin - A completely honest account of losing your virginity, exploring sex and realtionships and sustaining friendship throughout your teens. Follows 4 girls, one of which discovers her sexuality while attempting to complete a “sex pact” set by one of the other girls. Real, funny, intelegent. highly recomend.
I intend to add to this list as the month goes on (I have a pretty good book collection). Feel free to add more of your own and also I would appreciate any recommendations of books to read <3
