I’ve read six Hamlet retellings and I find it interesting that of those Horatio is the only character who NEVER gets his name changed. Everyone else will be completely renamed but not him.

Hamlet becomes Ben or Hayden. Ophelia becomes Lia or Felicia. Even Claudius gets the small change of Claude or Claudia.

But Horatio is only ever Horatio.

I like that the narrator seemingly chose stanley as his targeted office worker that would best fit his story just by how he eagerly functioned and followed every command given to him. and then the moment stanley did not get to press his buttons, he made sure to make the narrator’s life a living hell. imagine choosing the guy who usually always listens and then find out he specifically has it out for you.

sometimes the trans-specific rook dialogue is nice but sometimes it's just hilarious. davrin was flirting and rook was given an option to tell him about it but he went "are you sure you're okay with .........what i am..." and davrin replied "? Well. what are you." which is probably not the ideal response to that situation but you really can't blame him for thinking rook was about to reveal he was a werewolf or something.

there's something sadly funny about the way that Kaladin goes into literally every situation thinking "Too bad I'm not cool anymore 😔"

I mean. I get it. Depression fucks your brain up and you feel detached from yourself and any skills you have or had. The PTSD and chronic fatigue are keeping him from doing things he once managed with far less effort. And it's rather impossible to feel like you can just... do things like you used to when you're struggling at a basic level to simply be.

Still, literally everyone who knows him is like "Kaladin you're so storming cool" and he goes "They're referring to the person I was, who is dead. I'll never be cool again. I'm sorry."

The most hilarious thing? He walks into these moments, thinking 'too bad', and then he does the most objectively amazing thing possible while everyone else just watches in awe.

Kaladin, three seconds after absolutely changing everyone's outlook on life: Aw, it's too bad the person I just was died again. Guess I have to find something else to be cuz I sure can't pull that off anymore.

mission launch for minkowski's crew was in march 2013. ostensibly, they were put through some mission training, though the extent and effectiveness of that is kinda dubious. pagliacci takes place in 2013, exact date unspecified. but it has to be early. let's say... mid-january.

eiffel thought he had ruined the rest of his life before he'd even turned thirty. he probably spent his thirtieth birthday in jail. and then... for some number of days, weeks, maybe even a couple of months, he exists in this state of, well. of limbo. cutter gets him released from prison, and flies him out to canaveral. he doesn't speak to his family, obviously. they don't want to hear from him, and don't even know. he's still a prisoner, but no one around him knows that, either. at some point in this time frame, goddard first exposes him to decima, before hilbert even knows who he is. and he lives wherever goddard is accommodating him, and he has to go about his day-to-day life in this transitory state between a 26-year sentence he'd just started really grappling with, and the very immediate reality he's now about to be sent into deep space instead.

they give him a certain amount of freedom; it's not like he can go anywhere. he doesn't do much, anyway, is not feeling appreciative for his momentary second chance at life, given the circumstances. he blows off most of his mission training, and they're surprisingly lax about that, which in retrospect probably should have been a sign. he sits around and smokes, mostly. gets takeout food. but he goes to see movies, as much as he can. as much as he wants to punish himself, he needs to do something, or he'll go crazy, and it's not like he'll get a chance to see a movie in a long time. he was already resigning himself to maybe never going to a movie theater again.

the film adaptation of les misérables was released in december 2012. it's entirely feasible it could've been one of the movies he saw in this time period. i think the idea adds some resonance to his shared reference with minkowski in the finale, at least, in the way it pulls things full circle. intentionally or otherwise. and, incidentally, the 2012 film adaptation of les misérables, a story that notably features an ex-convict protagonist seeking redemption, was released on december 25th. call that serendipity.

So In Stars And Time is out and I'm a little flabbergasted

See, I have not heard of this game at all before it came out and started seeing it on my Tumblr, and it looks really cool! Nice artsyle, interesting gameplay, but the premise took me by surprise.

Basically, at least from my understanding, you're trapped in a time loop by some higher power (maybe that character with a star for a head), and are working to break free from it.

I don't have a problem with this at all. What leaves me flabbergasted however is the sheer scale of a coincidence I have encountered.

I've been working on my own story (I guess you could say that) following a scientist-looking fella, who learns that they are in a time loop (which is actually a repeated experiment in order to create the perfect star) which started because of a deal made they with a higher power (who I imagine to basically be Bill Cypher if he acted like Ford) and it would follow the scientist trying to break free.

But the cherry on top? I designed my higher power in a way which looks a lot like the star person from ISAT.

Ya see what I mean?

But what I find so funny/confusing is that this was sheer coincidence.

I couldn’t have copied them because I started work on this project long before I knew In Stars And Time, and they couldn’t have copied from me because I never posted anything about my project until now (and also because I practically don’t exist).

So the way I see it, I have encountered the biggest coincidence of my life, and I find that hilarious in the grand scheme of things.
