dunmeshi au be upon you once more, this time in the form of a forever unfinished comic i made on whiteboard
pov i rewatched the laudna resurrection scene again.
i had thoughts about the in-au resurrection and i will put them below + a transcript of my handwriting
au tag
handwriting on comic:
"you know you saved my life, right?
...if we hadn't met when we did, i don't know how long i would've lasted.
these last few years have been everything.
...we defeated the thing that killed you.
we tried our best to find what bones we could from its carcass."
I WROTE A CONTINUATION FOR THIS BUT DIDNT GET TO DRAW STUFF FOR IT so here you go:
"we couldn't find all of them though. i think it was using you like some sorta bonemeal...
either way, we did the best we could.
i hope you don't mind the branches too much. if you come back, i don't know how you're going to feel.
but i want you to know, whatever... whatever happens, i'll be there for you. just know that i love you, and i'm here."
OKAY SO. OH BOYYY. as youve most likely figured out, this resurrection speech is totally torn from the c3 ritual with a little bit of treant + laudna skeleton flavor added to it and i did talk about why i thought that would be fun in a previous post
i dont remember what i said exactly but it was about how i thought combining the resurrection rituals in dunmeshi and cr/dnd would be fun, in that the soul would have to be called forth by the resurrector or someone nearby before being brought back
and with that the brainworms took root in me and i started thinking about what imogen would say before performing the ancient magic and this was born! i would love to go back and work on this comic more tbh
you probably also noticed this but ashtons there!! i just think hes neat ♡ i think hes a tallman... maybe fearne is also in the party (she would be an elf. thinking up a design as i type this actually) since thatd let her be friends with orym!!
#SHOUTOUT TO TUMBLR USER SHARKODACTYL BY THE WAY. THE WOOD REPLACING BONES THING WAS TOTALLY THEM#i am not a writer btw. i tried my best ♡#critical role#critical role au#cr imogen#dungeon meshi#imogen temult#southerngothic#cr fanart#critical role campaign 3#malus art#southerngothic farcille au

Initial Analysis of Kirara
After seeing some leaked gameplay footage of Kirara I think I’m a little higher on her character design than I was at first. Her in-game model looks quite nice and I do think she’s actually pretty cute. So I started looking at leaked details of her kit.
Kirara is a 4-Star Dendro Sword user who provides a shield and some decent burst damage. Her kit seems to be geared towards Aggravate/Spread teams, and although it isn’t particularly interesting there’s definitely some stuff to talk about.
Elemental Skill
This ability does a little bit of damage based on ATK and creates a shield based on HP. Yes, yes, I can hear you groaning, but we’ll get to that. The shield itself is pretty tanky and is comparable to Layla’s shield. But it can also stack its damage absorption, which means it can become even stronger, and the cooldown of this skill allows you to have 100% shield uptime.
Alternatively, you can hold the skill button to go Solid Snake mode and move around in a box. Running into enemies in this state deals a small amount of damage to them and a larger amount when the state ends, though it’s still nothing crazy. Also keep in mind that the hold variant DOES NOT create a shield without Kirara’s first Ascension passive.
Notably, while moving in the box, Kirara has increased movement and climbing speed and increased jump height. But she also consumes more stamina while climbing this way, which is dumb. From what I’ve seen she doesn’t move all that fast either, but this could still be a pretty useful Talent for exploration. It’s also quite humorous.
Elemental Burst
Kirara’s burst costs 60 Energy and deals a fuckload of damage. I’m not kidding, for some reason this ability has a higher scaling percentage than Zhongli’s meatball. Like seriously, why? I guess it costs more Energy and probably has smaller AoE, but it’s kind of wild to see this on a 4-Star character (inb4 HoYo nerfs it because they don’t want you to have fun).
After the initial explosion, you basically get a bunch of Dendro Jumpty Dumpties that explode on contact with enemies or after sitting around for a while. They deal very little damage, especially in comparison to the initial hit of this attack, so they’re meant more for enabling reactions I suppose.
Passive Talents
Kirara’s first Ascension passive basically just makes it so the hold variant of her skill creates a shield too, but at most 60% the strength of what you get from the press variant. This way you can still get a little bit of protection while using Kirara for on-field Dendro application.
Fourth Ascension passive gives you, wow, HP scaling on Kirara’s abilities! She gets 0.4% more damage to her skill and 0.3% more damage to her burst for every 1,000 HP she has. Unfortunately, her abilities still scale better with ATK so she essentially has the same problem Dehya has. Shocking, I say.
Third Passive Talent is identical to Aloy’s. Makes it easier to get meat.
Constellation
C1: Kirara’s burst makes more Dendro Jumpty Dumpties when she uses her burst, up to four extra if she has 32k HP or more. Should be very easy to do since she gets HP% from Ascension.
C2 is a weird one. Could be a mistranslation, but it seems like it grants shields to party members she hits in Solid Snake mode. In other words, this does nothing outside of co-op, but it’s kind of neat I guess.
C3 levels her skill, C5 her burst.
C4 gives you off-field Dendro application which Kirara pretty much doesn’t have otherwise. When you hit opponents with Normal/Charged/Plunging attacks while protected by her shield, she performs additional attacks.
C6 gives 12% more Elemental DMG to all party members when she uses her burst. Pretty straightforward.
Overall Thoughts
Kirara doesn’t look too bad. At a baseline she’s got a very sturdy shield for a 4-Star character and a nuke for an Elemental Burst, so I think she’ll find some use somewhere, assuming she doesn’t get nerfed into the ground. She really suffers from being unable to apply Dendro from off-field though. Dendro characters tend to live or die by their application, and since Kirara doesn’t deal very much damage outside of her burst she’s especially hamstrung by that. Constellation level 4 makes her a lot more functional.
I do think playing box trot cat will be fun in the overworld though, and I think it’d be interesting to see just how far we can push her Elemental Burst, getting those sweet damage screenshots. My guess is she’ll find her home in Keqing teams most likely, or other Aggravate carry builds.

4-Sided Dive Highlights - Critical Role C3 up to E52 (Mar. 22, 2023)
I will catch up with these if it kills me. No fluff tonight, only hard-hitting facts! Tonight's guests: Liam, Marisha, Taliesin, and Ashley. We open with a recap from the previous episode where the broom was murdered while the lights were out. A montage shows us all the times we featured Broomy on the show. Rest in peace, bristles. The rest of the opening is an in media res discussion about pickles and a Kentucky vodka/Koolaid/pickle juice horror. Ashley wins host and the script lampshades the irregular show schedule along with the chaos of the show at this point. Broomy gets a moment of silence and we are introduced to his replacement, Moppo.
What the Fuck is Up With That? We start with a discussion of creating Nana Morri. Ashley reminds us that the birdhouse her mom made (which looked like a hag hut) was a big inspiration for the character. The double-face situation and the ET neck were all Matt. Ashley did know she had two heads before everyone else; she sent him a whole doc of ideas at the start (tree house, creepy Swiss Family Robinson, Fearne's menagerie, beauty from a distance but creepy up close), and Matt came back and extrapolated upon it. Ashley loves the idea of all Fearne's wildshape animals being misfit idiots all the way down.
How did everyone feel about the Fey Realm? Orym was sad they had to leave so soon. Ashton loved the rule of chaos. Laudna loved Grandma and how creepy everyone was; Marisha loved the idea of having two heads to take over the work. (I haven't fully caught up in my show watch and I miss Laudna so much!)
Everyone thinks the break-in with the portable hole usage was fantastic. Everyone wants to know about the Fey creature riding the dragon.
Dani sometimes sends them lore updates during games: "y'all, that item is literally sitting on the table in front of you, that just happened an hour ago." Neat!
How did the Apogee Solstice go? Marisha: "medium." Matt said they went right down the middle, could have gone better and could have gone way worse. Ashley felt completely paralyzed by indecision; Marisha was proud she stuck to destroying the power sources. They wish they could have done more with their previous campaign characters.
Marisha felt like she was in a fugue state when Beau showed up; Liam was devastated he couldn't roll better. Ashley was really struggling against her personal desire to get them out of chains ASAP. Liam loved the "sweet sweet irony of Caleb being collared y Aeor tech." He was really excited about the idea of destroying Otohan's backback, frustrated in the moment with his rolls, and then on review still felt like he'd made the right decision pursuing that for his character.
Marisha was convinced she was going to watch at least one of her characters die. Liam short-circuited and couldn't talk for half an hour after the episode, and almost everyone (except Sam & Travis) couldn't sleep that night.
Liam had completely closed the door on Vax in his head. He never expected to see him again after the wedding. To have him show up now both flabbergasted Liam and blew him away with the recontextualized attack on Keyleth in Orym's backstory. Both Marisha & Liam kept looking back and seeing seeds that Vax might show up later having been planted very early in the story. "It's not the first time Keyleth's been attacked. Fuck!"
Would they be okay if either of their characters are dead? Yes, they trust Matt. Marisha would prefer Keyleth to die over Beau; Beau has more to do, and Keyleth's biggest fear was always "being the last leaf on the tree."
Liam always felt that VM was a complete, closed story, while M9 was more a chapter in those characters' lives. He feels they're often going to come together over the years.
Ashley felt she was too timid in the Apogee attack. She wishes she could take a second shot at it. Marisha was mentally tracking Keyleth's HP for the whole fight and panicked when she realized how close she was to death.
Liam loves the challenge of taking the straight man role (similar to Keyleth in C1), except EVERYONE is Grog. Everyone thinks Deanna and FRIDA will be a calming influence.
Ashley loves Aabria's range and ability to jump from comedic to serious on a dime. Christian is incredible and brings energy to the table.
Liam is jealous he doesn't get to play with them. Marisha laughs that every time she sits back and just watches the show, she's like, "damn, this is good." She never realized how much Travis has been emoting this season since she sits next to them. Ashley loves watching people perform and be at the top of their game.
The Tower of Inquiry! What has been your favorite scene not involving your character? Ash: Laudna & Imogen & the breaking rock. Tal: Chetney getting dark with the shopkeeper. Liam: Fearne & Chet sexual tension scene. Marisha: Chetney calling bullshit on Delilah, Fearne as a quokka.
Liam pulls again: What surprises have you discovered about your character? Tal: what punk in Exandria means for Ashton: "life's not fair, and you either believe that it's not fair because life is chaos or you believe life's not fair because there's a bunch of interventionist assholes above you who have decided that you don't get to be a winner. Is is it a world where there are winners and losers, or is it in a world where there are interventionist gods?"
Both Ashley & Marisha love Laudna's relationship with Ashton. Ashton brings up parallels Laudna wants to deny: "she really wanted to be past this." "Right! It's--how fucking dare you be past this? How dare you!" "Exactly!" Ashton chooses not to believe Laudna is past it, because otherwise that means it's a thing you can get past, which means Ashton is wrong, which is impossible. "It's amazing the way [Ashton] is obviously projecting."
Liam goes to Zephra a lot in his mind palace. He never expected how much he was going to think about Orym's dead family and wondering if they would meet again. He has synthetic memories of interactions of Orym and Will, Orym's mother...
Tal has enormous portions of Whitestone fastidiously mapped out in his head: he knows the library, the gardens, the clock tower, and the ruins to the east. He can walk there and back in his mind's eye.
Ashley has learned that she really enjoys making everyone else cringe, ahaha. She loves when she can feel Laura looking over in concern. Everyone LOVED her stealing Ira's spyglass. Everyone lists off Travis's tics that tell Ashley she's on the verge of going too far.
Character's daily routines? Every night, Laudna gets out her little house and tucks in the dolls and puts them to bed properly. "Pate has to die every night." Everyone adores Pate peeling his ribs open. Ashton's routine is medicinal chronic pain management and deciding every night whether he's going to get drunker or get angry tonight. Both Dani & Tal talk a little about their personal struggles with chronic pain and enjoying seeing Ashton learn to deal with it.
Favorite spell or class feature? Laudna: Form of Dread. Fearne: Sleight of Hand.
The Deep Dive! Orym feels completely played as regards Keyleth & the Apogee. Everyone agrees there were lots of failsafes to make sure Keyleth showed up even if he hadn't reached out.
Ashley is very curious to see how magic has been affected by the solstice, but she's more panicking that Orym is gone and she's off the leash (ha!).
Laudna will always be there to validate Imogen's feelings; it's okay to have these thoughts and questions about what if the Ruby Vanguard is right, examining whether the relationship with the gods is healthy or cyclical abuse. However, "we can all sit here and do a nice big thought experiment about what the world would be like without gods, but that thought experiment doesn't necessarily include all of the consequences of the Ruby Vanguard's plan...which is a world without gods, not necessarily a bad thing. Unleashing a god-eating-elder-old-one-type being, maybe a bad idea. Worse." Liam talks about how these people killed a bunch of people precious to him. Dani reminds us that the god haters killed Laudna and a god-lover (Pike) brought her back. "You can't deny the existence of the gods. All you can do is be really resentful of them." They're manipulative if you choose to take the cynical point of view; Caduceus, for example, takes the complete opposite viewpoint. Taliesin had to sit down and build a discrete theology for Clay.
Whenever Marisha and Taliesin's characters have conversations in game, she always thinks of things she wishes she'd said or phrased differently. Ashton really struggled with watching Laudna go through what he did, except with the support of so many friends. "Oh, fuck you!" It's an unhealthy, jealous anger. Liam loves the jealousies, the petty faults. Ashton probably does know abandonment more than anyone else in the party, but both Marisha & Laudna were affronted at his claim that he knew loneliness better than her.
Orym is worried about Dorian & everything going on in Tal'Dorei.
Fearne is terrified of Ludinus. Seeing what he did to Sumal put a lot of fear into her, which was a new experience for her.
For about five minutes, both Liam & Marisha had all three characters sharing a map. Laura had said something about how Marisha's characters keep showing up: "Well, I habitually keep making characters that have an issue not working and just won't retire, so they just keep doing things, and maybe that speaks more about me than it does anybody else! Everyone else lets their characters rest and go to sleep, and I don't! I don't know why I'm like this!" It felt personal, but also representative of eight years of work building up the company and the world and the family. It hit everyone very hard and made them emotional.
Ashton is conscious that their abilities are a metaphor. Ashton does not know how his abilities work, but if he doesn't understand them, then neither does your enemy. He counts on being unpredictable. He's scared to death that he cares about Laudna.
Liam: "the three strange witches, their three bodyguards, and a robot." Orym would killed the halfling who surrendered but would have regretted it. Ashton took the locket because he believed this was not a dad who had something to lose; this was a dad who had lost something. "This was not an orphan being made." Ashton does not feel good about it, but there's no second guessing.
Ira is a regular old schmo to Fearne, which is a word I've never written in my life. Laudna is very taken by his confidence.
Laudna HATES not knowing where Laudna is. She loves having Pate with her all the time. If Imogen had been there during the dreams, she would have just held her hands.
Tal: FCG thinks he's dangerous because he's going to turn on everyone. Actually, FCG is dangerous because he's going to keep running headfirst into danger and everyone else is going to try to save them. "It's a monstrously selfish robot." How will FCG deal with someone eventually getting hurt in their defense? That they keep volunteering themselves for dangerous/painful tasks is a selfish sort of martyrdom.
One day with your character? Orym: gym, ballet. Ashton: concert. Laudna: taxidermy class. Fearne: Disneyland.
What would your room in Caleb's tower look like? Fearne's room would just be her own room but more expanded. Ashton: a mid 90s 16-yo kid's room. Caleb would have everyone's rooms connected. Marisha: Children's Museum in St. Louis.
What moments made you really feel you were in Exandria? Tal: the trudge through the snow with Lucien. That was the most he ever felt like Clay. Liam: going to Rexxentrum with the rain and griffin riders and arriving at the church and shattering the stained glass windows. Marisha: the jungle backstory conversation with Liam with the lighting cues and projections and the fireflies and the rain; having everything green and lush in her head really cemented the moment. Ash: descending on Aeor and realizing how old everything was. Liam: the Matron arriving on the steps at the end of C1. Taliesin: "I can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday and I remember every fucking moment of that day."
Favorite movie genre? Laudna: regency romance. Orym: Crouching Tiger, Errol Flynn. Fearne: soap operas. Ash: documentaries.
Post-Break Shenanigans: "Moving Out" on the Switch. I love silly little games like this and yet this one doesn't scratch the itch at all!
Orym understands Imogen's waffling about the Ruby Vanguard; he knows she wants a relationship with her mother. "It's a simple solution to a pretty complicated problem, though."
Ashton thinks Jiana Hexum is what he deserves. "I know a supervillain" is what he has to offer the group.
Fearne loved that Nana Morri came to her rescue, but just doesn't want her to get hurt.
Laudna loved the Fey Realm. She wishes they could have spent more time there. Liam wants the beating-heart topiary collection. Tal wants a mug.
Tal will drip out what happened with the kenku over the next five years. Ha! There's so much crosstalk; even with captions, this is awful, haha.
Fearne knows her position with the Ruidusborn means she might have been used as part of this plot. She's not excited about it, but it's such a complex problem that she's going to wait and see what happens. Fearne would be the least helpful in a move.
Laudna both misses Pate and his ability to heal her to full hit points. Everyone marvels at Matt's ability to rhyme off the cuff.
Orym is marvelling that the Wildmother finds him important enough to give him a sword. "I'm a real boy!"
The post-credits scene has an evil voiceover telling Ashley that she has no idea what's coming. Ominous!
ONE DOWN, TWO TO GO. Let's ride this train until the wheels come off!

I was bored so I said if I got 5 likes or more I'd compose a detailed post of both of my OC D&D parties and I got 7 soooo...
SOME CONTEXT: Both of these parties are original characters created BY ME for purely creative/de-stressing purposes. They both exist in Exandria of the Critical Role universe, specifically on the continent of Wildemount. For the lore nerds, the Shieldmaidens are active between 828 and 838 PD (Post Divergence), while the Headstrongs are active between 848 and 850 Post Divergence.
Obviously this is an amorphous AU canon where the events of Campaign 3 get resolved nice and neat, maybe the whole "moon's haunted" subplot isn't prevalent, idk. I came up with these characters before C3 started on that tangent, so just keep that in mind!
Headstrongs:
Vindithas "Vin" Morcoast (He/Him, Mixed Heritage (Elf/Orc), 11th level Gloomstalker ranger)
Another strong silent type. Kind of gives off "Cassian Andor meets Aragorn" vibes. Noble, loyal, but introverted most of the time.
Natural leader but actively avoids leadership decisions and roles, but believes in leading by example.
Has definitely killed in cold blood but isn't want to do it without good reason anymore.
Will use his rugged good looks to get better prices on supplies, but isn't proud that he does it.
Overabundance of natural talent means everything is kind of easy for him, so he does this thing where he'll either offer to help someone well past the point that they need it, or he'll just fix the problem and walk away.
Doesn't lecture people when they disappoint him, but somehow they know he's disappointed, and that makes it worse.
Never knew his father (an orc), and his mom (an elf from Bysaes Tyl in the northern Dwendalian Empire) committed ritual suicide when he was younger. His maternal aunts - all elven supremacists - consider him a stain on their family's honor and their sister's legacy, and have vowed to track him down and kill him.
He lost his left leg from just below the knee down in a trap when he was younger, and has a magical prosthetic made of some wooden and metal parts.
For obvious reasons he's a sad drunk.
Clainthryth "Clara" Lelista (She/Her, Human, 5th level Arcane Trickster rogue/6th level Order of Scribes wizard)
Think Jenna Coleman with some Eartha Kitt-levels of delightfully chaotic attitude mixed in.
Wisecracking personality, curious, quick-thinking, cultured but doesn't flaunt it.
She's a landscape painter by trade and profession, and her magic is all paint or art-themed. A sketched hand for Mage Hand, watercolor clouds for Disguise Self, making blades out of ink (a homebrew cantrip).
She's also a member of a clandestine organization that's trained in espionage to prevent conflict between different guilds on the Menagerie Coast, protect patents, recover stolen art, etc.
She got into sketching pinups and raunchy stuff as a side hustle when she was younger and her parents, who were also both artists and Renaissance af, were both like "Oh cool! She's so talented and progressive! Keep sketching nudes, darling!"
Flirts for sport.
She has an ear for voices and can copy people's voices with varying degrees of accuracy. She mostly just does it to make fun of people.
She might have a crush on Vin but like I said she flirts for sport so there's no way we'll ever know for certain...
Hala "Paisley" Andradari (He/Him, Hobgoblin, 7th level Battlemaster fighter/4th level Inquisitive rogue)
He's Sokka from ATLA, but a hobgoblin. Very similar personalities and foils, but with the benefit of experience that comes from being in his mid-20s. He's still sometimes an idiot though.
His nickname comes from a paisley-patterned sash he wears constantly (I wanna say it was the first big thing he acquired through trading as a sailor, so it has sentimental value to him?)
He's from Tussoa and his dad was a ranger serving the city, who was a close friend of Tussoa's Marquis (he was one of her most prominent supporters before she was elected to her position).
His mom was killed by pirates with the Revelry (big pirate brotherhood on the Menagerie Coast)
He wanted to become a ranger like his dad but can't cast spells for crap, so after going on a soul-searching journey where he served as a privateer on a ship and fought pirates, he came back and joined the Zhelezo (equivalent to the town watch on the Menagerie Coast. Every city has 'em).
Percy de Rolo is one of his idols and inspirations. Not the whole "he invented guns" thing, but just his mechanical inclinations and tinkerings and stuff.
His big gimmick is very RDJ Iron Man-coded: He goes up against an enemy, gets the shit kicked out of him, does some sulking and self-reflection, and comes back with a weapon or invention that can counter exactly the shit-kicking move that hung him out to dry the first time.
Tovae Seastone (She/Her, Quarter-elf, 10th level College of Swords bard)
Wiccan Folk Punk Swordswoman.
She's snarky, she's chaotic, she's dry-humored, she's anti-authority and pro-creativity and thrift...She's the closest to a Talesin Jaffe character this party has.
Believes in leaving "moral echoes" and that small positive choices can incite real change across multiple lives.
Is a bad influence. If someone has an idea that involves breaking the law, she is 200% down to clown.
Before joining the party she worked as a trick swordswoman for a traveling performers' troupe, which is how she met Tali and eventually Zaya. She mostly just did tricks with swords but also fought in underground matches for money, and did some Robin Hood shenanigans to help people.
She also knew Clara before the party formed as well - they met and worked together a few times to steal back some art from a wizard who was easily offended.
Spends any fun money she gets on hats and portable musical instruments (she likes finger cymbals and kalimbas).
Ferociously haggles for everything and is the party's face during any shopping escapades.
Shiloh Neilsson (He/Him/They, Stout halfling, 10th level College of the Road bard)
Halfling grifter with some dwarven heritage, a transatlantic fashion sense, and a surprisingly good right hook.
Hyperactive, impish, extroverted, and ludicrously optimistic.
Most of his schemes revolve around making money and impressing girls, in that order.
He essentially talked his way into an apprenticeship with Clara's guild and has been raising hell ever since. She thinks it's funny as hell.
Definitely hiding his big sad feelings with humor. Who or what hurt you, my guy? <3
He's an aspiring Triple Treat but his acting's a little stunted.
Big thing is graffiti art - Where Clara's art-themed spells are precise, elegant, and deadly, Shiloh's are VERY untrained and look straight-up like doofy street art.
He's related by blood to a Dwarven player character from CR but I won't say who.
He owes some very unpleasant people more money than he'd care to admit.
Zolzaya Moss (She/Her, Goliath (with mixed heritage), 11th level Way of Four Elements remastered monk)
Eight ounces of Lesbian dumbass.
Seems kinda fidgety and ADHD-coded (well, she IS) but is actually weirdly insightful and usually knows a LOT more than she lets on.
Except with girls. She can't flirt for crap and is completely oblivious to flirting directed at her.
Eats like Luffy from One Piece.
Fights like Aang from ATLA but angrier. A neat trick she does is to use the water and air pockets in a target's body to magnify blows and amplify internal damage in a really nasty negative feedback loop.
Sleeps better in a tree than in a bed (its because she oversleeps in a bed and falls out of trees to wake up)
Agroforestry is her special interest.
She smells like rain.
She is tangentially connected to the Shieldmaidens adventuring party (They adopted and basically raised her)
Tali Rootcaller (She/Her, Half-Elf, 10th level Swashbuckler rogue)
Pale pirate goth half-elf.
Vaguely Anya Taylor-Joy looking?
Hair, lips and legs like Dana Tan from Batman Beyond.
She's not really a pirate - acrobat and tightrope walker, actually - but she's adopted the affectation and the aesthetic with a marvelous grace.
Bubbly, curious, sociable.
She breaks the "rogues need tragic backstories" bullshit by having two very alive and loving parents. Dad's human, mom's an elf, specifically a pallid elf priestess of the Moonweaver. Pallid elves are from the Cyrios Mountains. They have a unique elven culture that Tali wants to honor and learn more about
Her parents were a gentleman and lady thief duo that got famous for stealing from the rich and using some of the money they made selling the stuff they stole to support lower-income communities along the Menagerie Coast. They got into trouble with the Myriad though (Wildemount's major crime syndicate) and went into hiding with the leader of the performers' troupe Tali later joined.
Kind of a city girl at heart but she's lived on the road long enough she can rough it with the rest of them.
Like Tovae she's got a habit of pulling a Robin Hood in towns they visit, picking out the richest asshole and redistributing his shit.
Legs. For. DAYS.
She swings both ways but gets a look at Zaya's monk bod and its that freeway exit meme with heart eyes.
She and Paisley kinda have a simultaneous unspoken thing going on but it never really develops.
Psolana Koa (She/Her, Tiefling, 10th level Echo Knight fighter)
Tiefling surfer girl. NOT a beach bunny, a surfer girl.
Light blue skin, cyan hair, and stubby backward curving horns that are asymmetrical - her right horn has two "nubs" sticking out of the base.
Grew up with a fair amount of money since both parents were renowned artisans (they handmade surfboards and seashell jewelry).
A decision was made at some point during her characterological development that a.) there is a surfing culture on the Menagerie Coast, and b.) tieflings kinda helm it.
Her fighting style is based around throwing knives and daggers. She throws, teleports to her echo's position, repeats the process.
Surfs like she was born to do it, and thanks to being an Echo Knight, she windsurf the same wave from multiple angles.
Got her Dunamis abilities from a grey-white bioluminescent tide, and her echoes look like sea spray and foam.
Out of combat and out of the water though? Total klutz. Gets her horns and tail caught on things, slips, loses her footing, etc.
Her parents - especially dad - were part of an environmentally-conscious surfing community that protected the coast from exploitation and monitored the local coral reefs and stuff, but were forced out when a new leadership took over and started promoting localism on surfing beaches to a violent degree.
Acts cool when she isn't trying, but when she tries, she isn't cool.
Pansexual, politically progressive, vegetarian (except shellfish. She INHALES shellfish).

I’m with you on not being super into all the C1 tie ins to C3. Im not as big of a fan of this campaign’s overall story (so far) as I was with M9 or VM at this point in the campaign. I’m also really trying to figure out how it would work if orym’s story wasn’t so directly tied to keyleth and the air ashari, you know? like what else is matt supposed to do if liam wanted orym’s story to be so closely intertwined with keyleth? i guess he could have said no or tried to redirect liam but idk, I really don’t think there were a whole lot of other ways when you have two characters so deeply connected to C1 characters :/ it annoys me because I really love laudna and orym and their stories but I do think it kind of hurts the overall story by being so deeply tied to C1. idk it’s hard
This is a great ask and I'm going to kind of use it as a jump-off point to explain some of my feelings surrounding the tie-ins because I think Laudna & Orym are actually a great place to start, but apologies because this might get long.
So, Laudna & Orym to me are two sides of the spectrum in-terms of Campaign 1 tie-ins, being that I enjoy one and I'm not so hot on the other. I should also preface with the fact that I think I am very hard to please with the callbacks, I view them with a lot of scrutiny, so where I find something a bit unearned, others can still heavily enjoy those callbacks. As always, personal preference is at play.
I enjoy Laudna's ties to C1 and here's why: I feel like they have a purpose and answer a question about the world. Laudna is a direct answer to the question of "What about the ones that Vox Machina couldn't save?" and that's only amplified by Laudna being killed directly for looking like Vex. She was killed not only because VM couldn't save her in time, but because of VM. I'm not going to laud these movies for their writing or how they answer the questions, but I'd sort of relate it to Spider-Man: Homecoming or Captain America: Civil War tackling the question of "What about property damage/civilian casualties in the MCU?" Like, it's not a question that every viewer has, but when you see it posed on screen, you go, "Hey! Yeah, what about that?"
Other than Delilah being in her head (and Delilah is already a very enigmatic presence, we don't know much about her other than basic outlines like: Raises Dead for Love, Kicked out of the Cerberus Assembly because Too Fucked Up), Laudna doesn't actually have a ton of connections to C1. She's from Whitestone, yeah, but she's not usually the one bringing that up. She name dropped "de Rolo," but she doesn't actually know the de Rolos, you know? When people have suggested getting in contact with the de Rolos before I don't feel like that actually comes from Laudna a lot- it's "The Lord and Lady from Laudna's hometown," someone else is bringing it up. Marisha as Laudna isn't really milking that connection. It's built in to reap potential future dividends, but doesn't actually affect too much with the current story. On a more personal note, I like that it's not too on the nose- back when everyone was guessing if Laudna was the Keytleth or Vex body, I was very satisfied to see it be Vex just to have it be a little less direct. Laudna's backstory brings back a character with a lot of questions into focus (Delilah), and answers a question (see previous paragraph) that I think is interesting to be explored.
Contrastingly, I'm not really sure what Orym's backstory answers other than "What is Keyleth's bodyguard like?" which at least I personally wasn't too curious about. Orym is connected to Keyleth because he is. I feel similarly about Derrig- I have no problems with Will, but what does Will being Derrig's son add to the story other than "That's a character we've seen/heard of before, that's neat." Not much, to me.
And to be clear: This is no hate on Liam. What Orym does clearly do to aid the story is that Liam enjoys crafting the story this way and is delighted to play a character connected to Keyleth and Derrig. If Matt hadn't implemented the no C1 connected backstories in C2, I believe Liam wanted to there as well (though I may be getting mixed up- maybe that was Taliesin).
I'm just particularly hard to please on this topic, but there are obviously a ton of critters who hear "Keyleth" and flip out every time because they love this sort of connection and are on the exact same page as Liam.
I also think post-campaign beginning, Liam is not the only one guilty of "connecting just to connect," multiple times Keyleth and the de Rolos have come up as potential connections and solutions and often by various different cast members. They just have fun throwing around the idea of reconnecting with those characters because they love and miss them. But because they are so entrenched in the backstories and have come up so much since the start of C3, whenever I hear it I get this sort of "Again?" feeling. I guess it's sort of the idea that Exandria is this wide, wide world, but the party keeps coming back to potential solutions that they have never made physical contact with and are on an entirely different continent.
Because truly, I think the idea of Keyleth resurrecting Laudna is kind of cool, right? I mean, I'd always have the gripe about Bells Hells not really having a lot of challenge in it if that's what they go for. But simply from a meta perspective, I understand it's cool. If there had been minimal to no C1 references up to now and Keyleth came in to save Laudna somehow, I think I'd be jazzed! How cool! But the oversaturation has me very not jazzed about it.
As I mentioned in my Laudna-Hollow-One-Complication post, there are still ways I could enjoy Keyleth coming in to help if it does happen. And the tie-ins as of yet have not been a campaign dealbreaker to me, just something that I could do without.
And to finally touch on what you mentioned: Yes! This is something that players want, continuously bring up, and enjoy. There's not much Matt can or should do- this is a part of the story his players want to engage with and he's making it fit in. The most I can say is that maybe he should make access to such high level characters come with caveats, but we haven't really seen how he's going to handle it yet, so I can't criticize anything Matt has done with regard to the tie-ins.

Got kinda bored watching Rebuild 3. They really Gainaxed it up with lots of robot fights. I know Evangelion is technically a mecha anime, but the appeal is very different from, say, Power Rangers. Every one of Evangelion's fights reveal something about the characters fighting. And it's not just cute little Aesops about caring about your friends; it's heart-wrenching, vulnerable stuff. Characters in Evangelion actually experience the horrors of war.
Rebuild 3, on the other hand, starts with a neat action sequence in low-Earth. We get to see what Asuka and the new girl in action. But the stakes and consequences aren't set up until the climax of the fight! Asuka gets in over her head but Shinji ex Machina saves her and their team gets what they want with no consequences. She doesn't even comment on it later.
The other really interesting thread in Evangelion is the mystery/conspiracy plots. Gendo does have a conspiracy up his sleeve, but he's apparently doing it almost solo (Fuyutsuki, Rei, and Kaoru are helping him out) in the abandoned shell of NERV HQ. So there's no double-crosses, no tense secrets or startling revelations. The mystery is just between the writers and the audience, and it grates even more because of how tight-lipped most of the characters are about everything else going on. Asuka lost an eye in the decade+ that passed between films*. Why? What happened? There's no answer because the writers think that mystery is more exciting than exposition. It's C3-PO's red arm all over again.
This is the curse of Gainaxing. The original series was really deliberate, even methodical, in how it set up actions and consequences, cause and effect, and meted out information. The plot affects the characters and the characters drive the plot. So when it got a little screwball towards the end with the insane supernatural stuff, I stuck with it because I cared about the characters. But it's easy to copy that tone and mood without understanding the storytelling skills that make it work.
#*in canon#evangelion#film crit#okay so WILLE rescues Shinji from orbit right#and they place him in custody so that he can't cause 3rd impact 2#then rei rescues him on Gendo's orders and he does anyway#how would Gendo have started the third impact if Misato hadn't de-orbited Shinji?#it's not a story-breaking plot hole but it feels like a symptom of lazy writing

that's impressive;;; i have never managed to get further than c3 haha;; and thank youuuuu (≧▽≦) im sad xiao's leaving soonw though... maybe i will write a little something for him, and re-reread your story for comfort,,
ahh i didn't know amber's c2 could do that!!! she is so cute <3 (which makes me think it's also a shame that they removed her little dance from the beta version of the game...)
ahaha jade reminds me a little bit of barbatos; very butlerish, and i think he would scare me if he were a yandere bc he would be so stoic and calm while literally making you miserable (´-﹏-`;) i still dunno much about the octavinelle guys, because i haven't had the time to play, but floyd seems pretty neat! he looks unpredictable and fun haha, i can't wait to see these guys together;;
exactlyyy (≧▽≦)!! which reinforces my point that the heartslabyul boys are just that good, haha
right!!! ( ꈍᴗꈍ) octavinelle has a vibe that just makes you wanna learn more about it. im also interested about draconia, mainly lilia and malleus... lilia especially! actually, he does throw me off a bit, because of the contrast between his voice/behavior and his appearance. but his design is too cute, i can't not like him;;
ofc!! hehe, actually, im planning on starting either tmrw or this weekend, if i can. ill have free time to do that, so!! (≧▽≦) colorful things are my cup of tea, i hope it'll be fun to watch :P
omg i think so too! cause riddle seems irritable when someone expresses disagreement about the rules set for the dorm, i think? but as long as you obey these (very ridiculous) and numerous rules, you should be fine, i think, whereas scaramouche is a little scarier because power aside, he seems like he would be a bit less predictable... serious, but also a bit brattier, and the way i view him, darling would probably have to learn by themselves how to behave around him ( ・ั﹏・ั) but that's only my interpretation hehe!! i still don't know enough about riddle... and thank you for the support!!! it's coming along, slowly because i don't always have that much time but surely!! i don't think it's gonna be very long, but it's something already aha
ahh TT thank you!! i really hope i can get his and riddle's;; sorarus would be nice too (i once again learn a nendoroid form of him exists!!), but that would be such a complicated task... too many nendos and so little money...
(i still haven't reached that point to the story, sadly TT but from what ive seen, i can see where you're coming from 100%!! they all have their appeal, and as of now i personally like ruggie the most in that dorm bc he looks really cute and i have him in my team haha! he looks so mischevious with his battle pose; it's adorable!! and i know i would spend my time there too, it's just that pretty! ramshackle would probably really feel like home, and what better place than that? (◍•ᴗ•◍) )
aaaa you are right;; aha i guess he could be a little bit of help to the darling if they managed to play what cards they have right, too,,
i personally like him as well!! i admit i get a little bit annoyed when he gets us in trouble, but he's endearing, and it's good not to be alone in a new and intimidating place such as this, like you say!! plus, he's funny, and he has a cute little face. I can only hope the bond between our Prefect and him grows stronger as the story progresses!!
(ps: sorry for the late answer (^~^;)ゞ since im not sick anymore, i had to start being active again so i haven't had as much time haha )
C3 is still very good! It feels as if the time for his and Shenhe's banners went by so quickly. I'll also miss him. D: But you should totally write something for him! He deserves it! <3
Yes!! Amber really is the cutest. It's so sad her dance was removed. >_< But her c2 is lots of fun and it makes it quicker to detonate Baron Bunny instead of having to wait for the explosion.
Aaa you're right! I can see it. Jade is the type of yan who will smile at you even when you're crying. orz He downplays the situation so much, to the point where you might catch yourself thinking that it isn't so bad. And Floyd!! On their own, both of them are terrifying, but when they're together it somehow feels even more intimidating. Every time I see them beside Azul I can't help but picture a mafia boss with his two most trusted bodyguards. ^^;;;
I adore everything about the ocean, so the Octavinelle trio has a special place in my heart. (∩˃o˂∩)♡ I feel like everything about Octavinelle, from its aesthetic to its dorm leader, is meant to pull you in. It's enticing with its pretty color scheme and comfortable lounge. But beneath all of that there is an unsettling darkness. Something like the depths of the ocean, where the deeper you go the colder, darker, and crueler it becomes.
Diasomnia is also very cool! I have one card from that dorm and it's a Silver card. I'm curious to learn about the others as well, both through the main story and through the card stories! Lilia's design is very cute! His behavior reminds me of Venti. That carefree type who's hiding more than he lets on... I like his personality a lot, though! He's very fun.
Omg I really hope you enjoy Nanbaka!! It was very enjoyable for me, so hopefully it's the same for you. :D
That makes sense! With Riddle, if you can use magic, he'll slap that collar on you for disobeying him and that's it. T_T He probably lectures you and expects you to follow through with whatever punishment he's going to dish out (like writing an apology letter or having to do chores). But if you follow all of his rules and act accordingly, then he becomes easy to please (for the most part). One slip-up and he's back to angry Riddle. :( With Scaramouche, there isn't much leniency and he's much more volatile when it comes to punishments. If anything, Riddle's punishments are probably very vanilla compared to some of the stuff Scara subjects you to. ;;;
Oooh, even so I'm eager to read it! Hopefully the writing process continues to go smoothly!
Yes!!! I can't believe I missed Soraru's nendoroid... What was I doing?! orz He's literally so cute. One day I hope to welcome nendoroid Soraru home so that he can sit beside Mafu on my shelf. ^0^
Omg Ruggie. <3 Another beloved. He is just so cute! I love how mischievous he looks. His laugh is everything!! You have very good taste in characters! I also think Ramshackle dorm feels like home, considering it’s the place where the mc stays with Grim. Despite how it looks, I think it would be very comfortable and fun to live in, even with the ghosts!
As silly as Grim can be, especially when he’s causing trouble, he’s a genuine friend. His energetic personality definitely helps lighten the mood of being stuck in an unfamiliar world!
And I’m glad you recovered!! It’s always a relief not feeling sick anymore!

Chester and the Jesters (FNAF SB fanfic) C3 - Deal
In Summary:
The new tech sure does seem a little strange. Chester (at least, that's what their name tag says) doesn't seem as concerned as they should be about the high turnover rate here at Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizza-Plex, or the numerous rumors about what happens to people who take the night shift. And to make matters worse, there seems to be some kind of criminal on the loose! The cops say they think the criminal is hiding out in the woods somewhere near the pizza-plex. Stress is high at the plex these days, but Chester is stoic as ever. Say, come to think of it, no one can seem to remember where Chester's application went or who they interviewed with. Their employee file is misplaced or missing just like everything else in this place. But the new tech does a good job completing their tasks, and has their own badge and everything, so of course they must belong here. It's not like someone would sneak into the plex and go this far out of their way to impersonate a low level technician. Right??
Things To Know (always read responsibly!):
Biggest warnings are for blood, death, knives, murder, the police, violence, also the OC is at one point hit by lightning. All fun stuff
About 70,000 words in total, 9 chapters, so roughly like. 7,500 words per chapter
This is an OC story, not a reader insert or a self insert! But if you want to imagine otherwise be my guest lol
Angst, fluff
OC x Sun & Moon, there's romance but zero spice
Occasional swearing
Heavy focus on Sun and Moon but most of the rest of the gang is there too :)
Afton doesn't exist, sorry peepaw, Vanessa is here but she's very chill. She's a kickass gamer girl lmao
Moon does an attempted murder but its fine. He's just a lil guy ok
OC uses they/them and also sign language most of the time
Impersonation, lying. There's also manipulation. Yall I wasn't kidding about the angst
There's also a lot of focus on how they're all robots, very cool robots with feelings lol
That's all I can think of, as always please lmk if I should add anything!
Ao3 Link: Right here!
Start reading here: Chapter 1

C3 - Deal
There was plenty to distract Chester from their thoughts. They had a lot of work to do, if they wanted to keep up this ruse. Mostly a lot of reading. Firstly, however, they had something a little more pressing to take care of. Being a human person with needs to fulfil was highly inconvenient.
Sneaking into the kitchen of a little restaurant called ‘El Chips’ proved to be much easier than Chester had feared. Still, they needed to be careful. They had to take only what wouldn’t be noticed if it went missing. That meant taking one taco shell from an already open bag, loading it with toppings from mostly full containers, and eating it over the big industrial sink to be sure they didn’t leave any mess behind. Taco devoured, they moved on to the next restaurant to repeat the process.
Chester slowly ate their fill, ignoring the little voice in their head that reprimanded them for stealing. Stealing from large corporations was easy to justify, especially when they were starving.
With food out of the way, the only other pressing physical matter was sleep. Chester imagined the moment they stopped moving for any length of time they’d pass out again, just as they had last night. There wasn’t time for that, though. They weren’t in a whole lot of danger if they went another sleepless night.
Chester found their way back to the employee stock room, where they located every technician related book they could get their hands on. Piling them all up in a neat stack on the floor, Chester grabbed the first one and began to read, opting to pace as they did so.
Through the night they read, puzzling over confusing terminology and unelaborated acronyms. The clinical nature of the manuals was mind numbing. Hours passed, and Chester started to get desperate. These weren’t books for beginners on the topic, and these concepts were extremely advanced for them.
The book on animatronic construction turned out to be their saving grace. This book was loaded with pictures and detailed diagrams that were well labeled. With the help of diagrams, Chester found they were grasping things far better than before. It was a start, and that was all they needed. They could build the rest from this first bit, once they understood it well enough. Like a giant puzzle, to which they’d just found their first edge piece.
Also not unlike a puzzle, was learning about how the animatronics were built, how all the little pieces fit together. Chester actually found this fascinating. The animatronics were even more involved than they had originally assumed. Roxy, the wolf animatronic, had all sorts of sensors in her head, since she was built for racing. All of the glamrocks had an impressive amount of dexterity in their hands, so they could play their musical instruments, but Monty, the alligator animatronic, had the most complex hand structure, as he was meant to play mini-golf as well as his instrument.
At first, Chester was confused by the exclusion of that Sun animatronic they'd met, especially when the book seemed to include diagrams for animatronics that weren't even in service anymore. With the discovery of a second book of animatronic diagrams, Chester quickly realized the reason why. The daycare attendant, as the book called Sun, was the latest in the line of animatronic developments. His construction was so complex and involved, it filled an entire book on its own. Granted, the book was much smaller than the others, but still. Finding this book to be very involved and intimidating, Chester set it aside for the time being.
For the rest of the night, they read. And the night after that. The night after that they finally decided to sleep, finding that spare uniform closet they'd spent their first night in, and using a small stack of shirts as a pillow. By then they were practically dead on their feet, and they had no trouble falling asleep the moment they laid down.
Chester went on like this, and they were careful. They were observant. They listened to the other technicians, watched them work when they could. On their breaks they sat in the back corner of the employee break room and sipped at a styrofoam cup of coffee and listened to the other employees chat about their jobs. Brandi kept them company on occasion as well, when their breaks aligned. She really didn't seem to mind that Chester didn't have a lot to say, saying it was nice to talk as much as she liked without getting interrupted or talked over. Chester liked the company, and relished in the simple calm of normal conversations.
Chester picked easier tasks from their list and avoided drawing attention to themself. They read and studied and read some more, re-reading the same books until the repetition stuck. Some parts were damn near torturous to get to stick in their brain, but if they could manage to convince their brain to be interested in what they were reading, they could manage.
Of course, Chester had always learned best with hands-on experience. There was only so much they could glean from the books, especially when they didn't have the vocabulary for a lot of the technical jargon. They were relieved when their schedule finally changed to the night shift, the night of another storm. Working the night shift meant they could take their time with the tasks, there wouldn't be anyone around to see them struggle and experiment as they carefully puzzled out how things worked.
The night shift quickly presented other problems, however.
Firstly, Chester would need to find somewhere to be during the day, on their off hours. They might be able to just masquerade as a guest every once in a while, but if they were spotted multiple times by another employee who recognized them, things might get a little awkward. If they couldn't leave the plex, that made things difficult. Chester resolved to find somewhere by the end of the night.
Secondly, Chester was not entirely alone in the complex at night. The animatronics were still here, wandering the halls. Seeing as Chester was technically allowed to be here at night now, they hadn't thought this would be an issue.
They were very wrong.
Usually, when Chester ran into an animatronic during the day, the bot wouldn't pay them much mind, some even flat out ignoring them. During the night, however, things proved to work out a little differently.
Chester glanced over their shoulder. The wolf robot was following them. Roxanne, Chester recalled. Chester had just come from the food court, having grabbed a large cup of water from one of the many soda dispensers to sip on while they walked to their next task, and they were certain that the animatronic was tailing them. Chester took a few turns at random, crunching on ice from their drink and trying not to panic. Roxanne followed. Anytime Chester glanced back over their shoulder, they could see glowing eyes boring straight into them.
Finally, Chester stopped and turned to face the wolf. "Why are you following me?"
The wolf stalked forwards, footfalls heavy enough the shake the pants around Chester's legs. The wolf’s hands twitched in a way that made Chester uncomfortable. "Don't be s- don't be scared. Don't be- employee profile not found. Are you lost? Lost? Are you-"
What the hell? The wolf seemed to be experiencing some sort of system error. Her voice lines were all choppy and strained. She kept twitching and snapping her jaw open and closed. Chester took a few steps back.
"Hey, kid! Hey-" Roxy made some sort of horrible groaning noise, accentuated by the loud whirring of fans. Her expression was a horrible mix of pain and anger. "Are- lost- are you… barcode valid. Profile not found. Barcode-"
Chester fumbled with the signs, their hands shaking. "A bunch of computer files got corrupted, that's why I don't have an employee profile. I have a paper file."
"…Paper." Roxy shuffled closer, staring down at Chester suspiciously. "Profile not found."
"I could show you?" Chester offered. "Show you my profile? The paper one?"
Roxy’s expression looked strained. She kept balling up and flexing out her hands, metal clicking and scraping together as she did.
Chester started walking. Roxy followed. Chester tried not to let their nerves get the best of them, even though they could feel Roxy staring daggers into their back. Where was that office?? Chester glanced nervously back at Roxy, who stalked heavily behind them. She looked like she wanted to strangle them.
Rounding the corner, Chester's eyes fell at once to a 'STAFF ONLY' door a short ways down the hall. The door had been left cracked open, and a light was on in the hallway inside. Chester hurried to the door, Roxy following along behind them. Relieved, Chester spotted the small office down the hall. They hurried inside and fumbled through the filing cabinet, setting their drink down on the desk between the computer keyboard and a pack of blank printer paper.
"Here!" Chester pulled out the file they'd filled out with Rosa. They held it up to Roxy, who Chester only now realized was standing directly between them and the door, the desk blocking their way around. Boxed in, Chester couldn't do much but wait nervously as Roxy scrutinized the form.
They waited for long enough to wonder what would happen if Roxy saw through them, somehow figured out they were a farce. Would she call the cops? She looked like she wanted to just throttle Chester.
"Employee profile… profile verified." Roxy’s shoulders fell in visible relief. She blinked rapidly several times, gaze eventually falling on Chester. "Well that was… annoying. Whatever that was." Roxy put a hand on her head. "Thanks for clearing that up."
Chester cautiously lowered their form. "Are you… alright?"
"I'm fine, looser. Be more careful next time, alright? I couldn't think straight for a while there, thought you were some kind of intruder. There were lots of conflicting error messages..." Roxy shook her head.
"Sorry. A lot of files got corrupted a few days ago and my employee profile was lost," Chester signed.
"Again?? What a pain!" Roxy groaned, rolling her eyes. "One of you little techies needs to fix whatever keeps corrupting files."
Chester nodded. "You didn't… you didn't happen to alert the authorities, did you??"
"Us animatronics don't have the authorization to call the authorities directly. I did send a notification to the security staff, but there isn't a night guard on duty," Roxy explained.
"Good. Wouldn't want to bother the police over nothing." Chester breathed a little laugh.
"Right." Roxy pat Chester on the shoulder with a surprising gentleness. "Sorry if I scared you, I wasn't really… aware of things. You alright there tech?"
"I'm fine, thank you," Chester signed. They took a deep breath, calming their nerves.
"Great. See ya around, looser." Roxy turned and left the office.
Chester glanced down at their employee form. Maybe they should print a copy of this thing. They carefully rolled the form up and tucked it into a pocket on their toolbelt.
Ignoring their tasks for now, Chester searched up and down access tunnels in search of some sort of office with a printer. They were keeping an eye out for the other animatronics as well, not wanting to run into the same issue as before with Roxy. They had to wonder why Roxy was suddenly having these issues; Chester had spent a good deal of time with her when they’d fixed that bumper car for her. Roxy hadn't said a thing about not being able to find their employee profile then.
"What do I have to do to find a stupid printer in this place??" Chester grumbled, pulling the door of a cleaning supplies closet shut. They tried the next door down the hall, and paused. "Oh."
The room had a line of computer servos along the right wall, little blue lights blinking through metal grates and between fans as big as Chester's head. Along the left wall was a computer, some filing cabinets, and one of those big office printers. Chester flipped the lights on as they stepped inside.
Chester took out their employee form, setting it carefully over the glass of the scanner at the top of the copy machine. They powered it on and figured out the buttons and controls easy enough. They scanned their form, then hit print.
The lights flickered while Chester waited. They could just feel the rumble of thunder, even as deep in the complex as they were.
Chester checked the tray once it sounded like the machine was done printing. They frowned when they found it empty. Chester tried printing one more time, but were met with the same results. They tapped the printer's little screen to wake it up, wondering if maybe it was out of ink or something. The screen flashed an error message: 'No paper'. Chester checked the paper tray and sure enough, it was out of paper.
Grumbling about their luck, Chester hunted through the room for some blank paper they could use. The filing cabinets were full of organized folders and documents. The desk holding the computer didn't even have drawers. Chester huffed. They knew they'd seen a pack of paper back in the office they'd gotten their employee form from. With no other options, they left the room to go get some paper, flipping the flickering lights back off. They shut the door behind them, ignoring a strange little feeling like they were forgetting something. They’d be back soon anyways, even if they were fairly certain they were just tired and imagining things.
Chester didn't think they'd be getting through all their tasks tonight. They'd at least gotten the high priority ones sorted. They scrolled through their task list as they sipped their water, plotting out which one to tackle next, making their way back up a stairwell and into the main complex.
Vibrant neon struggled to illuminate wide halls, sharp primary colors fading into shadow before the light could reach the high ceilings, the outline of rafters barely visible in the dark. Chester eyed their map. No matter how many times they walked back and forth across this place, they couldn't seem to get a sense of direction.
Chester paused, glancing back down at their map. They could have sworn there were two hallways on the left side of this corridor, but now the map showed only one. Chester looked up, eyes moving along the wall. They spied only one hallway through the shadows. Chester shook their head. Their lack of sleep was really starting to get to them.
They started walking again, but they instantly felt uneasy. Chester kept checking over their shoulder, thinking maybe another animatronic was trying to follow them, but there wasn't anything there, just a water fountain and a collection of benches. Chester tried to carry on, but the feeling persisted.
There was another rumbling roll of thunder, followed by another flicker of the lights, neon lighting dying out, leaving Chester in absolute darkness for just a moment before coming back to life. They wished they'd grabbed one of those flashlights from the employee stock room. They wondered if the power would go out.
Chester paused again, turning to look behind once more. They could have sworn they'd heard a sound, like jingling bells.
The sound came again. Bells for sure, the sound light and quiet. It sounded like it was coming from above them.
Chester looked up.
Something looked back down at them from the rafters.
There were a pair of glowing red lights, the vague shape of long bending limbs. Whatever it was made a series of sharp mechanical clicks, and then spoke.
"Trespasser. Rule-breaker. Transgressor. You are being- Transgressor. Being- are being detained. Do not struggle."
Chester took several steps back, watching those limbs unfold and move as whatever it was followed them, moving across the rafters.
"Wait, I'm not-" Chester fumbled with the signs, more than a little freaked out by this thing in the rafters. "I'm not trespassing! I work here!" Chester reached for the pocket with their employee form. It wasn't there. Dread set in as Chester realized they'd left it in the printer.
Uh oh.
"Liar. Naughty transgressor. You are- do not struggle. Do not-" There was another loud series of clicks. The sound of fans whirring was audible even over the clicks. "Employee profile not found. You are- barcode valid. Profile not found. Trespassing. You- rule-breaker. Do not struggle. Transgressor."
The shape groaned, red lights vanishing for just a moment. When they reappeared they fixed instantly on Chester, who stiffened. The shape dropped without warning, long limbs reaching for Chester.
Chester jumped back, their drink slipping from their hand, water spilling all over the floor. They got a brief glimpse of the thing for only a moment before the figure leapt at them again. An animatronic, one they didn't think they'd met before, his round head and slender form silhouetted by neon lights. The lights gleamed off of shiny golden bells adorning the animatronic. The bot was crouched on all fours, limbs shuddering as red eyes fixed on Chester just before he lunged.
Chester dove to the side, metal casing brushing their arm. They didn't waste a second, breaking into a sprint as they regained their footing. They could hear scrambling behind them, sharp clicking, and a pained groan. Then there was the sound of bells jingling as the figure pursued.
I can't be caught. He's gonna get me in trouble, detain me for the rest of the night and not let me do any tasks. I can't let him catch me.
Chester tried to think through the panic, through the haze of exhaustion. They hadn't come this far just to get fired for neglecting their ill-gotten job.
If they could just get back to the room with the copy machine, they could grab their employee profile form. It wasn't far, they just had to outpace-
All the air very suddenly vacated Chester's lungs as a heavy force hit their middle. After a moment of confused panic, Chester realized they'd been grabbed by their toolbelt. The animatronic yanked on the back of their toolbelt, sending Chester flying back towards him.
"Transgressor," the animatronic hissed in Chester's ear, his voice strained.
Chester fumbled with the belt, managing to unclip it. The belt fell away, and they stumbled forwards, running once more.
The door to the access tunnels was right down the hall- had they left the door open?? The door was wide open, a soft light glowing from the stairwell beyond, just bright enough to illuminate the doorway against the low light of the hall. Chester leapt through, slamming the door closed behind them. Barely a second later they heard a heavy THUD- the animatronic had jumped after them and crashed into the door. Chester flew down the stairs. They heard the door slam open.
Chester turned down the hall. Third door on the right, there it was, Chester could see the blinking blue lights from the servos through the open doorway-
THUD. Chester shot a look behind them, jaw dropping when they realized the animatronic had bypassed the stairs entirely, jumping the railing and dropping the distance, landing heavily on the metal grate floor, which Chester could see was now dented from the force of the impact.
Red eyes fixed on Chester once again, and the animatronic took a running leap for them. Chester dove into the office. They could hear bells jingling behind them as they scrambled for the copy machine.
Chester had a hand on the hood of the scanner. They didn't have time to lift the lid before something latched onto their ankle and pulled sharply, yanking Chester to the ground. They broke the fall with their palms, pain spiking up their arms. Their hat flew off in the fall, landing a few feet away.
"Detained- de- detained- you are-" the animatronic wailed, speakers crackling from the force of it.
Chester flipped over to see the bot crouched over them, his shaking hands gripping his faceplate hard enough that Chester could hear the metal start to groan unpleasantly.
"You- you are- AUGHHHHHH!!" The animatronic screamed again. "STOP IT STOP STOP STOP!" His hands balled into shaking fists. He raised them over his head, eyes locking back on Chester.
Chester rolled just as the animatronic heaved his fists down on them. They pushed up onto their hands and knees, planning to jump up and grab their employee profile. They froze before they could, eyes caught on the sight of the hard tile right where their head had been. The animatronic wrenched his hands free of the jagged hole he'd made. The tile all around the hole was cracked.
That hit would have killed them.
Something is very wrong here.
Chester barely had a passing understanding of the animatronics, but they were pretty sure that the robots were not supposed to be able to use lethal force. That had to be some kind of safety code violation-
Chester moved, realizing that it was now fatally stupid to just sit here. They lifted the lid of the scanner and snatched their employee profile form from inside, just as the animatronic wrapped a hand around Chester's head.
The animatronic screamed again as it threw Chester's head into the ground. Chester yelled as well, pain splintering like lightning through their skull. They'd dropped their stupid form on the way down- where was it?!
The animatronic didn't let go, instead lifting Chester's head and bashing it again against the hard tile. Chester's vision flashed with stars. They tried desperately to focus as their head was lifted again. They felt around for the paper, hands shaking violently.
Chester's head cracked into the ground again. They felt like their skull was about to crack like an egg. They didn't think they could take another hit like that. Their hand fell on something that didn't feel like tile- paper.
Their head was lifted once more. Chester thrust the paper towards the animatronic, their fingers gripping the top of the page hard enough to tear it slightly.
The world seemed to come to a halt. Chester, held up uncomfortably by the head, didn't dare move beyond the tremble in their hands. They heard the hum of the servos, a clicking sound coming from the animatronic, and the ringing in their ears.
Suddenly, the hand gripping Chester's head withdrew with a speed as if the animatronic had been burned.
"What- What happened… Where-" the animatronic scrambled backwards away from Chester, as if Chester was the one to be afraid of.
Chester managed to push themself up onto their elbows. The world was spinning violently around them, and their head ached with the worst migraine they'd ever had. Everything looked hazy… Chester found their glasses. They'd been knocked off at some point and thankfully weren't cracked or broken. Everything was concerningly still hazy even once the glasses were on.
"No no no no. Not again, no no," the animatronic muttered, pressing his hands to his face.
Chester felt something warm running down their face. Were they crying?? They lifted a hand to their face. Their fingers came away covered in red.
Blood on their hands. That face, sneering at them, eyes wild. The same face, eyes closed, unsettlingly still. Blood, blood on that face, blood on their hands, blood everywhere. People have so much more blood in them than you expect. Pounding, the pounding of rain, of fists on a door, of Chester's footfalls as they ran.
Chester squeezed their eyes shut, trying to block out the sudden barrage of images. They breathed, trying to focus on the present.
Chester looked up just in time to see the animatronic stumble through the doorway, hurrying out of the room. Now alone in the room, Chester fought through the haze trying to smother their brain. They realized they were still holding their employee profile form. They stared down at it, focusing on it.
All of that over some stupid form… and why?? Chester breathed and tried to think. Thinking was really difficult right now, for some reason. Something they'd read drifted to the forefront of their thoughts, something about… a wireless network adaptor? All the animatronics had one, to let them connect to the internet, so they could download software updates and send alerts to staff if something triggered their… security mode.
Security mode. Chester had read about that. All the bots went into security mode once the complex closed for the night. Maybe there was some sort of code that only ran during security mode? The alleged code had gotten caught up with Chester's lack of a digital employee profile, causing the animatronics to react as they had.
Even so, were the animatronics supposed to be capable of lethal force?? Even if Chester was right about the security mode coding, at most the animatronics should have theoretically only restrained them.
Chester heaved a sigh and closed their eyes against the headache. They wanted to just lay here and rest and forget any of this ever happened. They wanted to forget this night, this stupid mall, everything. They wanted to go home. Chester's heart hurt. They reminded themself that they didn't have a home, they hadn't for a very long time.
Chester braced against the copy machine and slowly, very slowly, got to their feet. The world spun nauseatingly around them. Chester focused on their breathing until the nausea passed.
Still gripping their employee file, Chester made for the door. They had to… go somewhere. Do something. They tried to figure out the details as they slowly inched their way down the hall, leaning heavily against the wall to keep their balance.
The missing files… employees were in danger. In fact, Chester had the sneaking suspicion that some of the rumors they'd been hearing were true. Employees getting into 'incidents' and never coming back to work again. Chester had known that there was no one left to work the night shifts, but they couldn't have guessed that this was why. If employee files got corrupted often, then it was entirely likely that Chester was not the first to run into this issue.
What had that animatronic said…? 'Not again'??
They had to report this to someone, they had to…
Chester paused at the base of the stairwell, frozen by a realization. If someone found out they'd had an incident on the job, found out they'd been violently assaulted by an animatronic, it was extremely likely the police would get involved, maybe even the news. Chester couldn't let that happen.
They had to pretend this had never happened. They were the only employee on the night shift (for good reason, they now realized) so no one else was really in any danger. This meant, however, that Chester would have to resolve whatever this bug was with the animatronics on their own. They had no idea what they were going to do if it was a software issue, they had even less experience with coding than they did with hardware. Maybe they could just figure out how to get the digital files to stop corrupting?
Chester made it to the hall. They didn't remember getting up the stairs, but here they were. That nausea refused to relent, sticking sickeningly in the back of their mind and at the base of their throat. Still gripping their employee form, they trudged onwards. They were going to print a copy of this damn form if it was the last thing they did.
They found their tool belt laying on the ground not far from the door and buckled it back into place. Chester also passed a custodian bot mopping up the water they'd spilled earlier. A little wet floor sign bot sat at the ready nearby. Both robots turned to look at Chester as they passed. Chester recognized the custodian bot, this was the bot with the little blue cap on their head, the one who'd startled Chester when they'd first entered the pizza-plex a few days ago. The bot stared at Chester as they passed, their blank and rigidly monotone face offering little in the way of expression. Chester carried on.
Paper finally acquired, Chester trudged back down to the printer room once more. Luckily, the printer had saved the last scan, so Chester didn't have to try and smooth out their wrinkled and torn form to re-scan it. Chester grabbed their hat up off the floor and scowled at the cracked tile. They weren't sure how the hell to fix that, so they just pulled the copy machine over to cover the cracks. Copy in hand, Chester carefully folded and pocketed the wrinkled form. They carried the copy back to the upper office, filing it away where they'd found the first form. Then they headed for the nearest bathroom.
They ducked into the first stall just as the nausea finally became overwhelming. Chester emptied what little they had in them into the toilet and sat there for a long moment after, waiting for the nausea to finally subside. Their head was swimming, headache and dizziness swirling together in a mess of bad.
They couldn't sit around here all night, so Chester slowly pushed to their feet and flushed the toilet. They leaned against the stall and breathed as the loud hush of the toilet roared uncomfortably in their ears. The horrible feeling of acid in their throat urged them to get to the sink. Pointedly avoiding the mirror for now, Chester turned on the nearest sink faucet and rinsed away the disgusting taste in their mouth and gargled the acid in their throat away. Then they put their head under the stream of water to clean all the blood out of their hair. They hissed as the water moved over a specific spot on the right side of their head, the same area that had been repeatedly bashed into the floor. The pain lasted for only a moment, and then all Chester could focus on was the headache.
Chester finally looked in the mirror, hoping to clean themself up. They winced at their reflection. They weren’t exactly glamorous, but at least they were still in one piece. They started scrubbing the blood off their face and cleaning it out of their hair.
Their head wouldn't stop bleeding, and seeing as their work shirt was already ruined and blood stained, Chester balled it up and opted to use it to apply pressure against their head. They stuck their name tag on the Hawaiian shirt they were still wearing underneath.
Once they were decently cleaned up, Chester checked the time. They swore. Only an hour and a half till six, when the plex’s front doors would unlock and people would start arriving for their shifts and getting ready for when the plex officially opened to the public at seven.
They still needed to find a place to lay low for the day, maybe even get some sleep.
Chester checked their task list, wondering if they even had time to complete any more tasks. They'd gotten through a woefully pitiful amount of tasks tonight, but at least they'd completed all the high priority-
Wait a minute. There was a new task.
Chester scowled at the singular high priority task at the top of the list. It definitely hadn't been there earlier. 'Daycare lights', it read. Had that Sun fellow reported the task?? Whatever the case, Chester didn't want to get in trouble for leaving any high priority tasks unfinished. One last task for the night, then they'd figure out someplace to lay low.
Chester did their damndest to move stealthily and not run into any other animatronics on their way to the daycare. They spotted Freddy, the bear mascot, as they peeked around a corner. They waited for him to wander down the hall and turn a different corner. They found a first aid kit on their way, a simple metal box bolted to the wall just beyond a 'STAFF ONLY' door. After sticking a bandage on their head, Chester carefully pulled their hat on to hold the bandage in place. They tossed the old work shirt in the trash, planning to grab a replacement shirt later.
At the daycare doors, Chester paused to get out their employee profile form. They didn't think they'd be able to avoid Sun, so they wanted to be careful not to set him off. They pushed through the daycare's double doors.
All the lights in the daycare were on. Chester frowned at this, wondering if the issue was that they hadn't turned off automatically after closing time with the rest of the lights in the building. They were about to check the task details when the daycare attendant popped into view.
"Oh, it's you!! Hello new Chester! Remember me? We met a few days ago!!" Sun made his way over, though this time he didn't run.
"I remember." Chester nodded, but quickly stilled their head when that made the dizziness worse. "There's a task about the lights? Is another bulb out?"
"Not quite!" Sun came to a stop a few feet away. He shifted from foot to foot. The sun rays around his head retracted and slowly popped back out in clockwise fashion. He reminded Chester of a loading symbol. "Um. So it's very, very important that the lights here in the daycare stay on. They have to stay on at all times! That's what they told us, and I always follow the rules!"
Chester watched Sun slowly shrink in on himself as he spoke, his shoulders hunching and fingers wringing themselves together. His faceplate remained stagnant, wide grin betraying his distress.
"And so we put in that request for you to come look at the lights! Because they're supposed to stay on! Lights on, it's the biggest rule! Lights on, on, on." Sun laughed, the sound high and quick. "And earlier- just for a little bit!- earlier the lights… well, it was the storm! The lightning must have-" Sun stopped and glanced at Chester. He finished his sentence in one rapid rush of words. "…The-lights-went-off-for-just-a-little-bit."
Chester glanced up at the lights. All of them were back on now. "Yeah, I remember the lights flickering a few times in other parts of the building."
Sun nodded. "Right, right, right. But the lights in the daycare… went out. For twenty-two minutes and twenty-six seconds."
Chester still wasn't understanding. They were far too tired to guess and try to extrapolate, so they asked plainly. "What is the specific issue that needs fixing?"
"Well! Well… we were hoping maybe you could fix the lights so that they wouldn't go out like that again! If another storm came by or the building lost power. Because the lights are supposed to stay on! I know this, it's the most important rule. Lights on!" Sun laughed again.
Chester wasn't sure if they could do something like that, even if they were a proper technician. If there was no power, there wasn't much they could do to keep the lights on. Still, Sun seemed really worked up about the lights, so Chester agreed to at least give it a look. "I can't promise I'll be able to do much of anything, but I will take a look and maybe do some research."
"Really?! That's wonderful!! Thank you!" Sun's posture changed instantly. He threw his hands up in the air and straightened so quickly that he bounced slightly. His faceplate spun a few times. "This way, follow me! The electrical box is up in my room. Wouldn't do to have it out where the kiddos could reach it, no-sirie!" Sun bounded to the other end of the daycare. "Don't forget your shoes!"
Chester paused to remove their shoes, leaving them by the door. Past a single room bathroom was another door, covered in the same foam paneling as the walls of the daycare so it blended in. There was a security panel set into the wall beside it. Sun tapped a code into the panel with rapid fingers, and the door popped open, revealing a narrow spiral stairway beyond leading up. Sun climbed the steps quickly, taking them three at a time with his long legs. Chester took their time following behind, gripping the railing tightly. Going up stairs was hard enough with the relentless dizziness, but this was a spiral staircase to boot. The nausea was threatening to come back. Chester fought it back and made it up the stairs, desperate to not give anything away to Sun.
At the top of the stairway, through another door, was a small room that Chester realized must be the room behind the tower balcony. They spotted the bright red curtains to their left, currently drawn closed. The big dome light on the ceiling illuminated in great detail the hazardous chaos of the rest of the room.
There were spare supplies, stacks of little plastic kid chairs and colorful foam blocks, scattered around with genuine junk. Broken pieces of a playhouse, what looked to have once been a staff bot of some kind lay in pieces around the room. A thin layer of dust covered everything. Loose bundles of some kind of cable sat heaped in the corner.
Sun stood next to the electrical box on the far wall. With his bright warm colors he stood out starkly against the drab décor.
Chester went to the box and popped it open. They grabbed a screwdriver from their toolbelt and set to work removing the panel hiding the wires at the back of the box. "What is this room?" Chester asked curiously with their free hand.
"This is my room! It's just for us- no one ever comes up here but us. I recharge in here when I need to," Sun explained. His steady gaze swept over the room before focusing back on Chester, watching them work intently. "So, new Chester. You know that it was an accident, right?? We didn't turn the lights off, they went off on their own! It was nobody's fault. You know that, right??"
"Yes," Chester answered, though they weren't sure if Sun was trying to imply something. They set the removed panel aside and squinted at the wires, all grouped in neat colorful bundles. The whole array looked really complicated. There was a timer box hooked up to a lot of the lights, though it appeared to be inactive currently, leaving all the lights on and active. Chester started gently checking to see if anything was loose, or if any wires were damaged.
"So-! So, we're not in trouble, right??" Sun asked. He was anxiously wringing his hands again.
"Trouble?" Chester couldn't figure out why Sun seemed so worked up about the lights.
"They said… if the lights go out, that'd be really bad! The lights need to stay on at all times!! Upper management told me I'd be in trouble if the lights went out, that they… They said-" Sun looked away, tapping his fingers together rapidly. "They said they might have to close the daycare!"
"Oh?" Chester paused, hands stilling. They stared at the wires, trying to focus on a thought, an idea, through the muddled haze in their brain.
Sun hurriedly continued. "I know the lights did go out, but! It was an accident, it wasn't anyone's fault, you agreed with that! I know how important the lights are, I know. But everything is fine, nothing… nothing bad…" Sun trailed off for a brief moment. One of his hands drifted to his head, pressing into his forehead before he seemed to snap out of it, returning to his anxious fumbling. "Nothing bad happened, right?? So- so you don't have to tell anyone about the lights turning off, right?"
Chester was still piecing their idea together in their brain. They tapped their fingers along the edge of the electrical box as they thought.
Sun started to visibly tremble. When he spoke, there was faint static underlying his words. "I'm sorry, I know I'm asking a lot, I'm sorry. I know it's your job, you're just doing your job, I know it's really important that the lights stay on, but please, please, please don't tell anyone about the lights, if they closed to daycare I don't know what I'd do, please-"
Chester held up a hand, cutting off Sun's desperate rambling. They straightened up and faced Sun. "I won't tell anyone about the lights… if you don't tell anyone about me staying in this room."
Sun froze. His fingers remained knitted tightly together, and his trembling ceased. He stood stock still as he stared at Chester. With his immobile grin, Chester had no hopes of being able to glean what he might be thinking. They curled their fingers into fists to keep them from shaking.
"…Okay. It's a deal," Sun said at last.
Chester tried not to look too relieved. They let out a small sigh.
"Can I ask… you wouldn't be willing to tell me why you want to stay in my room, would you?" Sun asked.
Chester considered their reply, scraping their thumbnail along the edge of the box. They hated lying, but they knew they couldn't be as honest as they wanted. "I don't have anywhere else to stay."
Sun nodded carefully. His sun rays did that loading symbol motion again, retracting and popping back out in circular fashion. Chester got the impression he was thinking about something.
"You wouldn't be willing to tell me what's so important about the lights, would you?" Chester asked.
Sun turned his faceplate away, picking up the nervous fidgeting again. "…The lights being off presents a major safety hazard."
Chester didn't press it, since Sun hadn't pressed them.
"So we've got a deal. Right?" Chester offered a hand for Sun to shake.
"We've got a deal!" Sun extended a pinky and hooked it with Chester's in lieu of shaking their hand. "I promise not to tell anyone about you staying here."
"I promise not to tell anyone about the lights," Chester assured. "And I'll see what I can do about keeping them on if the power goes out. Might have to just hook them up to a generator."
"Thank you!!" Sun bounced excitedly and released Chester's pinkie. "Thank you thank you thank you! It really really means a lot to us!"
"No problem." Chester picked the panel back up and got to work screwing it back in place over the wires.
If Sun was right, and it really was true that no one ever came up here save for him… with the state of the room, Chester figured it must be true. It seemed their luck was finally starting to turn. With a place to sleep and stay in while they weren't working, they could hide out for as long as they needed. If they weren't so dead tired, they might have been more relieved.
Sun left to prepare the daycare for the day's kids. Chester left for just long enough to clock out (after marking their daycare lights task complete) and grab a new uniform before dragging their feet back to the daycare and up the spiral steps, carrying their shoes up with them so they wouldn't be noticed. Chester cleared a spot in the back corner and laid down on the floor, not giving a single fuck about the discomfort of the hard floor. It was at least better than the uniform closet, where they couldn't even stretch out. Needless to say, Chester passed out quickly and slept hard and sound.

Sheep Faun Henry
Cyborg Geek Girl: I read somewhere that some Satyr's bare a stronger resemblance to sheep than goats, to the point of growing wool instead of regular fur. And now for some reason my brain is picturing Henry as a Sheep Satyr; he's human from the waist up, but sheep from there down, and with Ram horns on his head. He normally wears a charm of some kind to keep people from realizing he's not actually human. He had to leave because of something magic-related (or something). When he came back, he lost his charm at some point in chapter 2, and that's one of the reasons Sammy calls him a "Sheep".
Mom’s Lili Kittyflower: Oooo. Neat.
Cyborg Geek Girl: He wears pants (for modesty) after sheering himself in the spring, but during fall and winter, the wool on him is too thick to allow that. And he has specialized leg warmers he wears during the winter (for the areas that aren't covered in wool) Satyr Henry is very flexible since he has to do all kinds of fancy twisting to sheer himself without cutting himself.
Some Bastardisation of “Mango”: yesss
CGG: Satyr Hen is a floof. I want to talk more about the sheep or see a picture of him.
SBOM: yesss
CGG: Joey didn't know about Henry being a Satyr. He suspected he was magic, but something more grande then a sheep.
SBOM: Ye, lol
CGG: Henry is going through the studio in the fall, which means there's ink soaking into his wool. He's very unhappy about it. He'll have to sheer himself early to get rid of the mats. People are confused by the sheepman making his way through the studio. Alice wants to hug him because he looks so fluffy, but he's drenched in tainted ink. Bendy is confused by the clopping he's hearing instead of footsteps. Boris found Henry a brush to get rid of the worst of the tangles in his hair and wool.
SBOM: Yesss. the butcher clones are fascinated by henry's wool
CGG: Pfft, yes. They want to pet the floof. There are no Satyr toons, so they've never seen anyone like Henry before.
SBOM: i love this. ooo satyr henry meets benry
CGG: He's so tired of the feeling of ink in the gaps of his hooves. That would be interesting.
SBOM: s!hen: i'm guessing you weren't always like that
b!hen: what gave it away?
castor: ANOTHER FLUFFY HENRY
CGG: Henry keeps being startled by them because they keep trying to grab some of his wool or his tail. And it's all on his lower body, so it's very uncomfortable. Especially since they're all butt level against him.
SBOM: when some of the wool gets cut off somehow, the butcher clones all mob on it, trying to look at it
CGG: Henry is very confused by it. Like "It's just some wool?"
SBOM: i feel like toons, in general, are just fascinated by wool aLSO NORMAN he's just like "my life is already weird enough, might as well add this onto the pile"
CGG: I don't follow. What would Norman's reaction be?
SBOM: that's norman's reaction i was just exclaiming because *i forgot my boy*
CGG: That Henry's actually a sheep man? He's just kinda rolling with it?
SBOM: Yeah.
CGG: Henry escapes the ink demon once by accidentally bleating when it startles him. The demon just... Stops. It doesn't know what to do because bleating is not something humans do when scared. Henry takes the chance to run as fast as he can.
SBOM: pfft there's no horror just comedy, confusion, and odd fascination
CGG: Which is just as fun as the Horror. Well, there's still body horror from the toons. And the coffins from the earlier chapters. Henry and Bo still get dropped down an elevator shaft.
SBOM: but it's not pure horror
CGG: That's true. I want to talk more about Satyr Henry. But I’m not sure what to talk about.
MLK: I want to talk more about him too How does he lose the charm?
CGG: I want to say it was some carved beads (or something like that) that he kept one of those leather pouches that you can wear around your neck, and a searcher ripped the pouch, and the beads ended up scattered on the floor. Henry couldn't fix the pouch right then, and even if he could, he hadn't been able to find all the beads.
SBoM: he's just annoyed that he'll have to recraft the charm from scratch again
CGG: Oh yeah. I’ve just decided Satyr Henry has sheepy ears too.
SBOM: yessss4
CGG: [image] I’m not really an SU person, but I love these Satyr designs. I want Hen to have horns like Rose's and a tail like Pearl's.
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: yesss
Cyborg Geek Girl: Also, I finally found what a proper black sheep looks like. [image]
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: BROWN FUZZY FRIEND
Cyborg Geek Girl: YUS Hen is gonna be that shade of brown.
Mom's Lil Kittyflower: FUZZY FREEEN
Cyborg Geek Girl: Their legs are so skinny.
Mom's Lil Kittyflower: I wanna hug the sheep
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: saaaaame
Trash Mom: SHEEP
Mom's Lil Kittyflower: Fluffy wooly freeeen
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: yeeeee
Cyborg Geek Girl: If Bendy is separate from 'Bendy' in this AU (or even if he's healed from that form), He loves trying to play with Henry's long tufted tail.
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: yesssss
Mom's Lil Kittyflower: He's a cat. Bendy is always a cat X3 And honestly same I would too
Cyborg Geek Girl: Boris is fascinated by the Sheepman, and asking all kinds of questions about how magic is supposed to be outside the studio.
Mom's Lil Kittyflower: Joey; So you're just... A sheep? Henry; One, I'm a satyr. Two, WHAT IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN
Cyborg Geek Girl: Lol, yes. Joey; Sorry, I just expected something a bit... More… Henry; rolls eyes Oh, like you have room to talk. Imma need to swap things around for Henry, turns out I was confusing Satyrs for Fauns. Satyrs are... different. From now on it's Faun Henry.
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: fair nuff
Mom's Lil Kittyflower: Ah okay Snippy is going to love Faun Henry when she hears about him
Cyborg Geek Girl: [image] This is closer to what I picture for Faun Henry. But with fully curves ram horns and wool. (And older o' course) As much as I love the long swooshy tail, I think he's gonna have the cute little nub-tail most sheep have. Henry is so floofy. Joey is so caught off guard by Faun Hen, he just kinda freezes and goes "Wat?" He'd expected Henry to be something a bit grander than a sheepman for him. Like a Vampire, or a Werewolf, or a Wizard or something like that.
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: pfft
Lil Lilipad: We gonna talk more about Faun Henry today?
Cyborg Geek Girl: I want to.
Lil Lilipad: Why don't we talk about why he left? You said "magical reasons" right?
Cyborg Geek Girl: “Magical or something" yeah. I want to say it was partially the stress of working at the studio, and Joey starting to stick his nose where it shouldn't be.
Lil Lilipad: I’m kinda wondering what Henry's family is like
Cyborg Geek Girl: Probably distant. He might not terribly close to them.
Lil Lilipad: Joey just starts dropping hints that he thinks Henry is something magical but all his guesses are completely off base so Henry leaves because it's annoying
Cyborg Geek Girl: Lol, yes. And because He's pretty much running the studio and not getting credit for it.
Lil Lilipad: Does he confront Joey about it before leaving?
Cyborg Geek Girl: For the Credit thing? Yes. It gets very bad. Joey walks out with a black eye and Henry's got some bruises too.
Lil Lilipad: Sorry I feel sick can't really talk
Cyborg Geek Girl: That's fine At first, Joey trying to guess what he really was had been amusing, but then it started to get on Henry's nerves.
Lil Lilipad: He never even gets remotely close
Cyborg Geek Girl: The closest he gets is Satyr, but that just visibly offends Henry. People often mistake them, but that's still pretty rude.
Lil Lilipad: “I’m sorry I guessed something that boring" Henry is further offended
Cyborg Geek Girl: (Satyr's are built like humans, but with Horsetails and ears. They were supposed to accompany Dianonsis, the Greek God of Wine, Celebrations and [ahem] "Sexual Activities") (Henry is less offended by the "boring" comment and more by the suggested activities) "My God Joey! Do you really think of me like that?!" Highly offended tone I want Sammy and/or Wally to be suspicious of Faun Henry not being human.
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: yesss
Cyborg Geek Girl: They find something like some wool, or maybe a chip from one of his horns or hooves. He was helping carry something heavy and it smacked against his head and they found a chip from one of his horns. Henry yelps after having to squeeze his way through a partially blocked doorway, and claims he was just startled by a splinter digging into his hand.
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: ouch
Cyborg Geek Girl: They go back and find some wool caught on the wood.
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: they start getting suspicious
Cyborg Geek Girl: He didn't hurt his head, because it hit his horns and not his actual head.
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: idea: henry makes and sells yarn made from his wool
Cyborg Geek Girl: Only during early summer and late spring
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: he has a little old lady for a neighbor that knows how to knit and she always buys his yarn
Cyborg Geek Girl: He had a few things he makes himself.
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: yep hen doesn’t knit or crochet he does macrame
Cyborg Geek Girl: He makes cord bracelets.
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: yesss
Cyborg Geek Girl: Just with leftover yarn.
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: he also sells roving wool for needle felters
Lil Lilipad: So his horns are just invisible with the charm? He can still knock into stuff with them? What is macrame?
Cyborg Geek Girl: He doesn't have a lot of yarn. 1/2 of a usual wool bag
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: it's doing yarnwork with your hands
Cyborg Geek Girl: From his self-sheering.
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: “I have a very small sheep"
Cyborg Geek Girl: The charm is to basically trick peoples brains into not notice he wasn't actually human.
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macram%C3%A9
Cyborg Geek Girl: Pants and shoes are normally considered "Not important" to peoples brains beyond, "That person is wearing them".
Lil Lilipad: He has a pen out back for a sheep and whenever people come over "She's out hiding somewhere" Oh I see
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: in reality, he has a pet goat named Sheep
Lil Lilipad: Thanks THAT IS ADORABLE
Cyborg Geek Girl: He claims it's an old ram that's not very sociable. So people should just leave the old boy alone.
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: pfft
Cyborg Geek Girl: He should actually have an old ram. He got it when he was a kid, and stupidly named it Rammy. He argues with him sometimes. Like how Lili argues with her cat.
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: yesss
Cyborg Geek Girl: Everyone suspects Henry isn't actually a normal human. Joey is just the only one trying to figure out what, exactly, he is. Someone should be a farm kid and knows that Henry's wool haul is more than he should have for only one old ram.
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: also, yes, Grant is the farm boy
Cyborg Geek Girl: Sammy finds the wool from Henry, while Wally finds the chip, and it's Grant who identifies them as "possibly sheep".
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: yes
Cyborg Geek Girl: Everyone thinks Henry is odd, but no one really points it out. Except for Joey. Henry does yearly hair-cuts at home, but again, no one questions it. They just think he's trying to save money. Head hair has to be trimmed a bit more often since it grows at a human rate. But Henry still does it at home.
Lil Lilipad: Imagine Henry accidentally bleating when someone scares him
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: yesss
Cyborg Geek Girl: Yes, people look at him funny when he does. Also, apparently Sheep/Rams can shed the outer covering of their horns. This is how Henry's horn had chipped but still healed later.
Lil Lilipad: Henry almost never laughs, so a couple people make it a challenge to see who can make him laugh first When they finally succeed, they find out that Henry has a really weird sounding laugh
Cyborg Geek Girl: Wally: whispers “No wonder he doesn't laugh.”
Lil Lilipad: Wally, Shawn, and probably one other person
Cyborg Geek Girl: Thomas. His curiosity couldn't be contained. (Before the Machine, he was their Heating and Plumbing guy)
Lil Lilipad: He always struck me as someone who has really serious but okay
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: Henry and his nice old lady neighbor [image]
Lil Lilipad: Cuuuute
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: she wears a snuggie 24/7 cause she gets cold easy
Cyborg Geek Girl: Snuggies weren't a thing then, but a good robe/shawl wouldn't be out of place.
Some Bastardization of "Mango”: She just wears a robe all day then :P
Cyborg Geek Girl: Lol, I just found out sheep scream like people.
Lil Lilipad: Oh my god X3

What Could’ve Been E2 C3
And my writing goes back to being god awful. Also surprise, ***** is back and alive!
Clementine's POV I looked up at the truck in front of us stopping. "Why'd we stop?" I asked. "I don't know." Eli replied, parking the car and getting out. The two of us walked out of the car, seeing the others coming out of the truck. "What is it?" I asked, walking to Francine who had stepping out. "That." Francine pointed at the bridge before us. My draw dropped seeing the barrier before us. It had like multiple cars stacked, and packed together. "How are we gonna get through that?" Javi asked. "Only if we had Tripp here...maybe he could push one of them out of the way..." Eleanor whispered. I patted her shoulder gently, and she gave me a small smile. "Let's look around, there may be something that'll help us get through." Javi stated. "I'll help, I'm sure Francine wants to stay with Conrad." Eleanor explained. Francine nodded, climbing back into the truck. Javi walked towards one of the buildings, looking around. Eli approached the barrier, crossing his arms. Eleanor walked towards the gas station. Time to look around. I walked towards Javi, stepping by him. "Hey." I said. "Hey Clem." Javi said. "Look...I'm sorry about your niece." I looked at him, taking in his emotions. Javi looked at me, sighing a bit. "I'm sorry about your friend. He seemed like a pretty neat guy." Javi stated. I nodded to him slowly, walking away. Eleanor looked through the window, observing the gas station. "Eleanor." I called out. The woman turned around to face me. "How can I help you Clementine?" Eleanor asked. "Been a crazy day hasn't it?" I asked. "That's one way to put it. It's insane thinking of all the people we lost in a matter of hours. Mitch, Tripp, AJ, and who knows who else." Eleanor sighed out. "We still have a chance to get AJ back. I'm not stopping until I get my baby back." I stated. "Your right..." Eleanor nodded, preparing to walk away. "Wait Eleanor." She turned around again, "Tripp wanted me to tell you something.". "He...wanted you to tell me something?" Eleanor questioned. "Yeah. He wanted me to let you know, he really liked you." I said. She looked at me wide eyed, before nodding slowly. "I...thank you Clementine." Eleanor said, clasping her hand over her chest, "I appreciate it.". I nodded to her, walking away. "Hold on baby, were gonna get you some help." Francine said, looking at Conrad from her seat. "I know. I trust you guys will keep me alive." Conrad replied. I smiled at the couple, passing the truck. Eli stood by the barrier, looking at it, then the truck. "Got an idea, or will it involve you pawning off something off brand." I said. "Very funny." He groaned, looking back at the truck, "But I might actually have an idea.". "Really?" I questioned. "The truck has a hook, we can hook it up to the first car, and Francine can drive back." Eli explained. I stared at him, before nodding slowly. "That could actually work." I whispered. Not wasting a second, I made my way to Francine. I knocked on the front window, catching both of their attention. "Francine, get in the drivers seat, I got an idea." I said. "It was my idea!" Eli shouted. "Alright then." Francine climbed out of the car, then going back into the front. Nodding, I made my way to the front of the car. Crouching down, I grabbed the hook. Heaving heavily, struggling to pull the hook, dang this thing was heavy. "There we go." I whispered in relief, finally hooking the thing to the car. "Good to go Francine!" I called out, backing away from the car. Francine nodded, reversing the car. Javi and Eleanor walked over, watching the car being pulled back by the truck. "Smart idea." Javi stated. "We'll get there in no time." Eleanor said, smiling. "Guys!" Francine shouted from the car. We all looked at the bridge, gasping as walkers started pouring out from the hole we just created. "Francine, go, we'll meet up with you!" I shouted. "The hook, we won't be able to move with it on!" Francine shouted. I turned to face the car, my heart racing. "Cover me!" I shouted, running over to car. "Clem!" Eleanor shouted in fear. I slid forward, grabbing the hook. "Come on!" I groaned, struggling to yank the hook off. Walkers around me growled, attempting to get me. Just as it reached for me, a metal bat struck in right in the face. Javi nodded at me, striking more walkers around me. "Clementine hurry up!" Eli shouted. "I almost got it!" I shouted. With a satisfying click, the hook came free. "GO NOW!" I shouted, diving away from them. Francine nodded to me, before slamming on the gas and driving forward. "They just left us?!" Eli yelled. "You would have done the same, we need to get out of here." Javi exclaimed. "There was a ladder on the side of the gas station. We can use that to get on the roof." Eleanor explained. "Then let's go!" I shouted. We ran towards the later, Javi swinging his bat at any walker coming from behind. It was a good thing he was a baseball player before this I guess. "Hurry." I said. Eleanor grabbed the metal bars, climbing up the later slowly. "It's sturdy, come on!" Eleanor shouted. Eli made her way up next, and I pulled out my gun. "Javi go." I stated. "Are you sure?" He asked. "Just go!" I shouted. Javi nodded to me, sliding his baseball bat back into place. Not wasting a second, I began firing at the walkers all around me. "Clementine go!" Eleanor shouted, firing at a walker from behind me. I flashed the woman a thankful look, before hopping onto the ladder. Climbing up seemed like the easy part. But life was never easy. "AUGH!" I screamed as one of the foot holds broke. "Clem!" Javi shouted as I landed on a trashcan. I shook my head in pain, looking around. Two cold hands grabbed my face, causing a scream to fly from my throat. I struggled to push off the walker, it's teeth getting to close to my face. A startled gasp came from my mouth as it was shoot off me. I pushed it off, and turned my attention to the others. They were just surprised as I was. "Who shoot that?" Eli asked. "Doesn't matter, we need to go." Javi leaned over the edge, holding out his hand. I jumped up, grabbing it myself. Javier grunted, as he pulled me up. I yanked myself up the ledge, leaning on my knees for support as I took deep breathes. "What now?" Eleanor asked, approaching the edge of the roof. "We wait it out?" I panted. "That is one of the stupidest ideas I've heard. It could take hours, maybe days for this to clear out." Eli stated. "Hey I don't see you making any plans." Javi said. "Fuck you." Eli growled. "Can we please not fight now? Francine and Conrad are out there." Eleanor said. "She's right." I stated. "Guys shut up." Javi said. "Excuse me?" I asked. "No seriously, shut up and take cover." Javi quickly ducked behind one of the vents and as he moved I realized why. A figure stood on the building across from us. I slid behind cover with Eleanor, looking at my group. "Have they been watching us this entire time?" Eleanor questioned, peaking out a bit. "I don't know." Javi whispered. "Why are we whispering, they can't hear us from here." Eli stated. I rolled my eyes at him, and peaked out slowly. "I'm going after them." I whispered. "Is that safe?" Eleanor asked. "Is anything safe now adays?" I whispered, standing up slowly. I slowly walked across the bridge that connected to each side of the buildings, clutching my gun. This was crazy, was someone just watching us during this? Shaking my head a bit, I stepped onto the connecting building of the one where our watcher was seen. My feet stepped onto a wooden plank, and I walked over to person. They were hiding behind the signs, peaking out from a broken part of it. Not saying a word, I walked around them, hoping to make them explain themselves. However, once I got around them, my eyes widened. It was just a beanie and jacket resting on some planks and tires! "What the-" "Clever trick huh?" A male voice questioned. I heard the faint clinking of a gun, and slowly turned around. "Now, put your gun down slowly." The man stated. "Or what." I threatened. "Or the woman who saved your ass will shoot it." I gasped at the voice, my eyes widened. A woman came from behind Jesus clutching a sniper riffle, when her eyes, well eye widened. "Lilly?" "Clementine?"

First post will be the Shieldmaidens, and I'll do the Headstrongs sometime after when I'm not all tuckered out.
Shieldmaidens:
Solveig Lynstad (She/Her, Mixed Heritage (Fallen Aasimar/Half-elf), 7th level Hunter ranger/7th level "Sublime Nomad" homebrew fighter)
Has a big "Kiera Knightley playing Aragon" kind of vibe, with an "autumn ranger grunge" aesthetic and an edge of Eastern European proto-pagan, paleolithic weirdness.
Her dad was a fallen aasimar and her mom was either an elf or a half-elf, so she's a mutt with no real preset 5e racial/species traits. She's a nature girl with crazy high perception, nature, and survival skill bonuses, and that's about it lol.
Born in the Greying Wildlands, but adopted by a half-elf diplomat and raised in Gwardan on the Menagerie Coast.
Has prophetic dreams and visions that are nature-oriented and really difficult to interpret. They seem to be leading her towards some kind of big destiny involving saving a nation and slaying a dragon or some shit. She wasn't paying attention.
Sheds embers when she fights (they don't light anything on fire but man it looks cool as hell) and her fighting style is based around locking the fuck in.
Queer af and there's no sliding scale. She's either completely confident with herself and her physicality or she has NO IDEA what she's doing.
Josephine "Josie" Davenport (She/Her, Quarter-elf bard, 14th level College of Valor)
Think Karen Gillian, playing an elf, raised by dwarves.
Extended family is a clan of Dwarves, heavily viking/skellige inspired, that defend the northern Menagerie Coast (near Gwardan) from sea monsters and pirates and shit.
Her mood board is "North Sea and Plaid".
Big drinker.
Boy crazy.
Kind of a klutz and an impulse shopper.
Angry but objective-focused in combat.
She's spicy, and flirty, and fun, and very much the face of the party.
Best friends with Solveig since they were like eight. They know each others' strengths and weaknesses and the tragic parts of each others' backstories. People who knew them both called them the Fire and the Flood (not foreshadowing or prophetic titles AT ALL >.>)
Olivya "Olive" Audouin (She/Her, 6th level Human cleric, Community Domain/7th level Swarmkeeper ranger)
Brunette "Odette Yustman-looking indie halfling aesthetic schoolteacher" vibes from this one.
Plucky, persistent, maybe a little naïve sometimes?
Cottagecore aesthetic. Likes beekeeping, birdwatching, making jams and jellies.
Her swarm appears as a flock of butterflies with leaves for wings.
She doesn't worship or represent a deity, but has like a "pantheistic" faith that honors nature without associating it with anyone. She didn't go full druid because of her connection to her community, rather than nature itself.
She was initially raised in Odessloe in the northern Dwendalian Empire, but eventually moved to Felderwin.
Grandmother is a noblewoman who is toxic af and places unrealistic expectations on her grandkids. Olive was raised by her after her dad died, but eventually went to live with her mom and stepdad in Felderwin, and was much happier there.
She was a schoolteacher before becoming an adventurer, working predominately with halflings in the town of Felderwin. Her desire to make her community better and undermine local corruption led her to Agronomist June Wiston, and she became one of the half-elf's undercover inspectors in the Marrow Valley.
She's nature-oriented, but like woods, and orchards, and hedgerows and shit. Big nature was always on the horizon, and she wanted to see and experience more, but her responsibilities at home kept her busy.
Gets it BAD for Solveig because of her whole "representing the sublime in nature" vibe.
Karin Matswick (She/Her, 8th level Shifter Samurai fighter/6th level Swashbuckler rogue)
Initially the youngest of the group until (REDACTED) shows up.
Meets up with the rest of the party as professional adversaries - Karin is working as a saboteur for the rebel faction the rest of the party's been hired to track down - but she decides halfway through a swordfight that she'd rather get a drink, and a few drinks and a bathroom conversation later, she switches sides.
Fidgety af, energetic, curious, confident in her abilities but not THAT much of an ass about it.
BIG on platonic physical affection - hand holding, hugging, stroking, hair brushing, etc. She kind of does the tiger "headbutt/head rub" thing, but will also, like, headbutt and punch people to show affection too.
Is notorious for having absolutely zero game. A recurring theme is all of her romantic interests being unrequited or not meant to be.
Is a tattoo artist in her spare time and can even do a few of those magical gemstones tattoos from CR C2 that Orly could make.
Her main questline is recovering her family's ancestral katana - a Vestige of Divergence that empowers shifter and lycanthrope abilities - from some rando who killed her grandmother and swiped the sword off her while she was dying.
Ginseng (She/Her, Firbolg werebear barbarian, 14th level Path of the Totem Warrior)
Big butch werebear that just happens to be a firbolg. Think less "cow person" and more "Pangoro meets that bear from Brave".
Gets her name from chewing on a ginseng root like a cigar.
Grumpy af, strong silent type. Does her best to do no harm, but also takes no shit.
She knew Solveig's dad from way back in the day and is the last thing she has to biological family. They're not...close, per say? They just share a kind of shorthand and cohabitate well.
Doesn't put up a tough front to hide her feelings. She really just is that grumpy most of the time.
Can't go full "hybrid form" werebear because of the nature of her condition - a corrupted physiology from the Savalirwood combined with several (involuntary) transfusions of werebear blood. She can occasionally go "super saiyan" when she goes into a rage and turn into a huge black grizzly bear, but its like once every 5 long rests or something. I never quite figured out the mechanic.
