🤩 a bit more about me 🤩

heya! the name's nick. i've been on tumblr since like...2011 or so? i was really big into it in my college years (2012-2017) but after The Great Tumblr Porn Ban of 2017 I've sorta been drifting in an out. When The Great Twitter Debacle of 2022 happened, I decided to migrate back on a new account so I could start fresh.

this account was immediately suspended because of my side-blog. which was a bit too unsafe for work for tumblr's guidelines ig 🙄 not mentioning that they had just recently updated their policy and everything i was posting was PERFECTLY FINE under them but w/e

so i started another one lmao and that's the one that you're looking at right now! my other account has since been restored but at that point I was already situated over here so like. whatever i guess. lol

i'm currently 28, and bisexual. semi-recently out of the closed as bi, actually. for years i identified as gay, but over time i started realizing "actually...i do kinda like girls?" i still identified as "gay" cuz it was easier than saying "so like i'm bi-sexual but mostly homo-romantic but also maybe potentially demi-sexual but only when it comes to real people?" then around 2020 it just kinda clicked with me, and the label of "bisexual" just felt right

anywho you didn't come here for my full life story. here's just a little bit more about me:

i'm a total nerd. i love video games, playing Yugioh, DND (just starting to get into that one), etc. i'm a writer. i've written several fanfics (some of which i'm really proud of, some of which i'm...less), and have a goal of one day publishing a novel (my main genre is YA contemporary with queer themes and characters). i'm a musician. i actually got my bachelor's degree in music (BA in Music). my main instrument is drums/percussion, but i'm learning a bit of guitar and can play a little bit of piano. i'm also a composer/songwriter, though haven't been writing as much these days. if i write anything cool i'll be sure to post it here!

Hi anon! Thanks for the ask and sorry for the delay. I've been known to hoard asks.

What's something that makes me happy about writing my muse? Is it their personality, their mentality, or something else entirely?

To be honest? Everything. I love her personality and her backstory. I've been writing and developing Annaleigh for years. She's one of those characters who has been through trauma and tries to put on a brave face, even though she's hurting. Which I find relatable. And despite everything she's done in the past, she's still trying to be a good person and a good mom for her son.

Also, is there something you'd like to explore with your muse in general, but haven't had the opportunity for it?

I want more interactions in Annaleigh's AU verses so badly. Especially her Naruto and Yu-gi-oh! verses. Those two verses I have a lot of muse for and they quickly became to other default verses on this blog because I love them so much. So technically she has three default verses. (but if I'm not doing yugioh or naruto interactions i just default to the main one usually)

I also want Annaleigh to gain more friends and other relationships in general.

I also have some verses I've wanted to write out for her but haven't yet. Like verses in :: Yu-gi-oh!5DS, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Vampire Diaries / The Originals / Legacies, an Ancient Egypt Verse that ties into her Yu-gi-oh! verse, and an Ouran High School Host Club verse.

I've also thought of doing an AU where she's working for royality. Also threads where she's a supernatural being in general.

Also more threads about Annaleigh's life as a parent would be great too. We've been sleeping on Tommy and I want to bring him into threads more.

𝐓𝐄𝐍 𝐐’𝐒:  

1. When are you usually online?

. Usually at night and weekends, especially when I am working at the hospital and not at home. I work full-time and I also take classes on Monday evenings for this semester. Lately, my activity has been a bit rough. Hoping that will change, though. I try to be here when I can.

2. What verses are you involved in?

 Other than my main verse, I have a Yugioh verse, police verse, Free verse, FF7 verse, FF7 Turk verse, Angel/guardian verse, fantasy verse, Rock star verse,FF15 verse, and I’m working on a Vampire Knight verse, Sailor Moon verse, and started on the Berserk verse. I would like to work on an Elden Ring verse too, but that’s been in construction for some time.

3. What is your biggest RP pet peeve? 

 Generally, it’s godmodding, force-shipping, and not reading rules. I usually don’t participate in call-outs either. The only exception is if someone is in immediate danger in real life. I’m not a fan of excessive and very graphic smut either. Some intimacy is okay, but I draw the line with extreme levels of it.

I also don’t like replies that don’t offer much. I am not against short replies, but something like “she smiles and giggles,” doesn’t give me much to work with. I rarely write one-liners or I would try to encourage more input in some cases like add more details.  You don’t have to write four or five paragraphs. I just want something to work with.

4. Are you drawn to specific types of muses?

Harmony is attracted to other muses who are rough around the edges or are downright deadly. She's quiet, kind, and gentle, but also has the urge to help and love others. It’s in her nature to seek out people who may not have received love and kindness out of the belief that she can heal them. The thing is, that doesn’t always happen. Harmony wants to save other people when that can put her at risk of making the problem worse or putting herself in danger. Other than her chronic heroism, Harmony also falls for the unpredictable dynamics of a relationship with the other muse.

5. Are there reoccurring themes in your writing that people might not notice?

 I try to make the replies immersive and be in Harmony’s perspective. I want to work more on writing environments and I hope I’m getting better with it. However, I tend to focus on thoughts and emotions. I want people to see how she feels, what she thinks, and how it influences her actions. I don’t know how well I portray her in some situations like when she’s excited, upset, or scared. I need to practice more on things like that. 

6. What are your favourite RP trends?

 I love the banners people have on their blog’s and also banners for answered asks and things. I hope to get things like that some day. 

7. What is your process for starting a new story with someone?

I am pretty shy but would reblog different memes to encourage others to send something to start interactions. I also will reach out to people to plot things out or like permanant starter calls and plotting calls to show that I am interested. 

8. How do you feel about duplicates?

 I worked hard on Harmony and she’s an OC. I have allowed people to have her in their works like fanfics before, but it’s after they asked me. Other than that, I hope people don’t copy Harmony, which is different from being asked on whether she’s included as a character or npc in other works. 

9. How long have you been involved in roleplaying?

For many years. I did this since I was 13.

10. Is there a muse or verse you could write in, but haven’t?

muse  wise: I thought of writing as Casca from Berserk a few times, but I was never sure if I would do her justice. I worry about that a lot when I consider canon muses. 

verse  wise:   I’m working on a few verses, but the Berserk one is one I really thought about working on. It’s very bare bones right now though and trying to come up with how to make Harmony fit into it.

I had the idea to start a Selfshipping side blog for awhile since 1 my main Account is kinda hideous and I just wanted a new slate especially now that I understand tumblr more 2 cause I really like the self shipping community! And I used to write fanfic

New Ask Game! Send me a 🌻 and I’ll just tell you whatever the fuck I want to talk about!

((HOO BOY!! 6 FLOWERS AT ONCE!!! In this case, why don't I list off 6 muses I write outside of Tumblr! These are Discord and friend/mutual exclusive muses that I don't want to bring onto Tumblr, or bother putting them on a blog haha! I'm not one for a HUGE multimuse blog because I know it'll overwhelm me. I'll give a small explanation why they became muses and why I wanted to write them!))

Jaden (Judai) Yuki - Yugioh GX: I love Jaden's hype energy and enthusiasm for card games! He's a free-spirit kind of guy, loves making friends, and overall has a very warm, welcoming personality. I really got hooked onto him as a character during the 3rd season of GX, because that's when the plot and overall darker themes began coming into play. Despite Jaden's sunny demeanor he's seen A LOT of heartbreak, tragedy, and pain. He's a very well-balanced character and I instantly got a muse for him after I finished watching the series.

Razputin (Agent Raz) - Psychonauts: A snarky, little 10-year-old who has the powers of a psychic? I instantly fell in love with the kid when I played through the first game. His quips, his manner of speaking, and his mischievous nature made me absolutely love him. Despite being a kid, however, I do admire how much he cares for his friends and their mental-wellbeing. But THE KID IS ONLY 10 FOR PETE'S SAKE!! He's seen WAY TOO MUCH a regular 10 year old shouldn't see until they're a teenager.

Cuphead - Cuphead: For those who know me very well, they know how much I love and adore 1930s-esque/rubberhose animation. I followed Cuphead's progression as a game for many years up until it finally released. The daring, gullible, and street-smart Cuphead caught my attention the most in game. It was to the point I made a whole cosplay for Cuphead too! But as a character, I THOROUGHLY enjoy getting to write and play out cartoon logic with other muses. That being...there IS no logic or science behind the actions they can do! He's been a fun muse to explore for creative settings, thinking outside the box for different scenarios, and all around letting loose without caring if it makes any sense. Cartoons DON'T make sense!

Susie - Deltarune: Despite Ralsei being my favorite character out of the main 3, I really latched onto Susie as a muse after completing Chapter 2. She's brash, extremely rude, the big bully of the game, but she has the soft and caring attitude beneath her hardened exterior. The "asshole with a heart of gold" types of characters are ones I tend to gravitate towards, whether it's me adoring their character arc or....simping for them. Sometimes, but not all the time. Susie has her weird quirks too, like the foods she eats and her brief moments of tsundere reactions. All around, she has a special place in my heart and I look forward to what she does in future chapters.

Akari - Pokemon Legends Arceus: I was a little surprised when I found myself musing the female MC for Legends. Much like a lot of silent protagonists, Akari is an open-book character. There's very little information given to the player at the beginning, and provided many of the dialogue prompts are a "yes or no" scenario she's pretty much a base for an OC. But that's the fun part about those kinds of characters. You can build and structure them however you like, and I've really ben enjoying how much thoughts and character building I've put into Akari so far.

Mayday - No Straight Roads: The most ROCKING, HOT-BLOODED, AND REBELLIOUS MUSICIAN IN ALL OF VINYL CITY!! Mayday exudes chaotic energy whether it's through her words or jamming out on her guitar, and it's no surprise she became my favorite NSR character for the very start! Loud-mouthed, energetic, and absolutely blunt, she doesn't hold back when voicing her opinions about the corrupted system inside NSR. Plus her personality reminds me of myself in some ways. She's such a damn good character and GOD do I love writing her wild, feral self!

Yugioh S5 Ep 20: Pharaoh’s Cool New Trick

Digging my way through quite a pile of commission work (funny how these things only come all at once or not at all), nearing the light at the end of the tunnel, was looking forward to some free time to catch up on my many little side projects when I was asked to take off for a weekend to do some cat-sitting to which I would NEVER say no to a cat, so like...Rip this blog I guess, we only update like once a week nowadays, but what do you do?

That’s right, play Puzzles and Dragons! The only phone game worth paying any attention to! Where they just released Pegasus on their Yugioh Collab and he looks pretty great!

So I’m just gonna take a second for some art appreciation, because the Puzzles and Dragons art team is just A++++ honestly, and yes, I did pull 13 times to get a Pegasus in my monster box, and yes, he is a completely insane team leader that is absolutely broken when paired with Yugi (the numbers are so satisfying) but...look at him. He looks so good!

(also I finally got Joey Wheeler, and so now my gatcha cravings are settled. And, don’t worry, I play this game so much that I was there during Christmas when they offered like a bajillion stones for free so I didn’t actually use real money on this.)

Now PAD also released a Weevil and Rex, and I don’t know why, and neither does the art team because they still look pretty good but in comparison to all the mains, they sure do looks like just some shorty guys in some casuals.

though I gotta admit, I want to learn how the hell this art team does swooshy effects, because man, that would make my art so much better to just have flames violently exploding out of all my art. Why am I not doing that more often? I have the technology.

anyway, I didn’t bother trying to pull them. Maybe I’ll accidentally pull them when they eventually release a Duke Devlin. (also, RIP to the fact that Roland will probably never be in Puzzles and Dragons but like...I can only send them so many polite letters covered in stickers pretending I’m some 10 year old child and writing in my broken Hiragana “Roland in PAD?”. Thems the breaks. (They also might not remember who Roland is.))

So because this is not actually a Puzzles and Dragons blog, and it’s been ten eons since I regularly updated so I could remember episode to episode...where the hell were we?

That’s right, we’re on an island now. This show’s wonderful obsession with evil islands (and spoiler, this is one of the few Yugioh Islands that doesn’t explode at the end. Mostly because Kaiba isn’t here to do it or this place would be cinder)

Anyway, after announcing “hey guys! Screw islands!” Yugi immediately collapses and without any warning.

Apparently the armor is a big ol parasite, which is something that Yugi is so used to at this point that he refuses to admit that this is a problem. Just normal Muto stuff, refusing to tell anyone that he has a serious illness going on underneath that giant mass of hair.

Sort of feels like a call back to S1 when Yugi was clearly possessed and everyone else was like “He acting weird to you?” except it’s S5 and everyone has learned to never trust Yugi when he says he’s fine and they are responding like he is about to die. Which is correct.

Outside of the cave falls this scroll that is...glowing, I guess. So they open it up and get a bunch of hieroglyphs that give them the “riddle of light” and like youknow...it’s riddle stuff.

They’re doing this riddle for “wings.” And it’s like...everyone’s monster here has a set of wings or an ability to fly. Every single monster except for I dunno, flaming swordsman? Hell, Yugi himself had two sets of wings when he fused with Dark Magician (which was weird, and I still don’t like to think about what technically was going on there.) But we have to go and get ourselves even more wings.

Weirdly, Joey turns to Tea and does something that in any other show would be completely normal. He was like “you want to stay here with Yugi, don’t you?” and it was the first time Joey has ever actually addressed the fact that Tea and Yugi are close. Uncharted territory. I was amazed at the amount of casual shipping that is happening here. It’s almost like a normal ass relationship.

So the boys decide to go off, and be boys and tackle this themselves. And they shouldn’t have, because Tea is smart for this group, and also has the only healing spell.

Like if you’re playing D+D you wouldn’t typically leave your only healer behind. Just saying.

Also like...Grandpa Muto went with them? I guess he’d have to since he’s the translator but also...kind of weird to leave your grandson dying in a cave, but maybe that’s just the Muto lifestyle.

Do not be fooled by my caps, no one has addressed the Bakura in the puzzle for 3 seasons. I’m starting to think this show will never address the Bakura in the puzzle. Which honestly, that would be hilarious if they made a big deal out of that plot point and then couldn’t use it in the end.

And speaking of plot points that kind of come out of nowhere and don’t make full sense with the continuity of the show--Joey has regressed back to the 4th grade.

So like if you love Joey, this is not the arc for you, because this arc he is reduced to a Himbo and nothing else. Straight up didn’t know what an echo is, but is very strong and pretty, I guess.

This inevitably happens with any TV show becuase different people make different parts, and I’ve brought up before that sometimes it feels like some teams only have loose post-it notes of what any character should be like at any given point (ESPECIALLY with Seto Kaiba’s timeline) but like...

...Personally I’m mot so fond of this interpretation of Joey, kind of ignores Joey’s best traits, and makes Tristan look way too smart in comparison (and like I always pinned Tristan to be the Himbo of the group, but maybe it’s because they give Tristan so little else to do?)

And like don’t get me wrong, Joey’s a dumbass a lot of the time and needs to get corrected by his pals...but...to the point he doesn’t know what an echo is? He’s a dumbass in a High School student sort of way, youknow?

Anyway, they get down to this big ravine, and they have to destroy this stone while the light passes over it. Kind of feels like a Breath of the Wild shrine quest, actually. In fact, I think Breath of the Wild recycled the shadow/sunlight pathing quest like 4 or 5 times. (I love Breath of the Wild to death but boy did they run out of ideas at the end there.)

They have to fight a glass monster and it’s kind of like...do you know the game Balls 3D? probably not, but it looked like a bunch of random shapes stuck together like a 90′s animation. They basically went to war with shapes.

Pure Himbo energy, has several pokemon, but punches for his pokemon instead of using them. A power move if I ever saw one.

Youknow that would make pokemon a lot more interesting if you could like throw out your pikachu, and then choose to just physically run up to your opponents Eevee and sock it in the jaw. Raise of hands--I know you all would love a version of pokemon like that. Let Ash Ketchum punch a Ratata.

Bro has informed me that Ash does do something like this in the anime. But I’m not talking about the anime, I’m talking about the video game. Give me the option to physically combat my rival. This is what I want, Pokemon.

They discover a way to break the monolith, and the show thinks we’re like actually 7 years old (because the show is Y7, although I forget because it deals with so many dark themes) so the show is going to hold on to this puzzle for a while...just to fill time. And it’s fine because we gotta switch over to Pharaoh anyway.

Yami has this dream again. He attempts to fuse with Dark magician to overcome the dream, but alas, he is still not strong enough.

Yugi wakes up in this murky cave while Tea is out washing out like...some rag? (he’s also still got a rag, so I guess multiple rags were required for how sweaty Yugi is.)

Yugi says “I feel like I’m a new man!” a lot in this episode, and every time he calls himself a man like he’s some sort of adult it’s very funny to me.

And then this plot lore dropped.

I mean I guess inevitably it had to happen...

But man, end of an era. It was freakin hilarious while it lasted: that Pharaoh refused to read ancient Egyptian because it’s like 2002 and he is a High Schooler living in Japan and he actually doesn’t WANT to resolve the mystery of the puzzle. Maybe the people who made this arc don’t know about how in S2 and S3, the fact Pharaoh couldn’t read Marik’s back tatt was like...a really big issue. He couldn’t read the God card, he couldn’t even read that massive tablet that read “HEY PHARAOH THIS IS LITERALLY YOU”. KAIBA had to tell him how to read the God card for him. Freakin Seto “Magic is a lie” Kaiba had to tell him how to use the God Card because Pharaoh couldn’t read it.

But like...Pharaoh finally gave in at some point after the world was devoured by the Leviathan, and before Kaiba finished building Kaibaland (which was already built in S1 but wtv)

The timelines on this show have always been a mishmash...but this one is just like...

...show are you trying to convince me that at any point in this show after season Zero, Pharaoh had any idea what he was doing? Did he sap that brain energy straight out of Joey Wheeler so he could do this?

Wow.

(secretly hoping he forgets how to read Egyptian after this arc is over and the show goes back to the other development team)

Pharaohs reasoning is that, if this is the riddle of the light.....

....then where is the riddle of darkness????????????

and when Tea was like “Pharaoh that is not even remotely logic. Omg it’s so bright outside, lets go back to gross cave.” and Pharaoh was like “Tea! You got it!” and she was like “What the hell are you talking about?”

Not gonna lie, I saw the Orichalcos green, and I got concerned.

Anyway, Yugi gets very frustrated and was like “ugh, lets go save em. They’re gonna die (again.)” and marches down there as if he didn’t pass out an hour ago.

And he fuses with Dark Magician again while everyone else (including his grandpa) was like “Yugi are you freakin kidding me? The suit freakin kills you omg! Tea you had one freakin job!”

And then we get the plot twist that...I mean it makes sense but it was choreographed in a confusing way.

And out of no where this guy shows up again:

So this mysterious man shows up and says “If you don’t succeed you have to live here forever” which...nice...that would probably save the world a lot of problems if Yami got locked away and took his OP puzzle with him. And then this man also says “if you do succeed you become VERY POWERFUL” and Yami was like. “...”

This whole episode had a theme to it, where Tristan and Joey were trying to prove that they could do things on their own and without Yugi’s help. And honestly...felt a little bit misplaced. Yami’s the same guy who murdered Yugi last season with the Orichalcos so like...

...I mean he is probably more reliable than Tristan who once died and turned into a robot monkey for 10ish episodes.

and then they flew into a glowing door.

Folks, this was wild to look at.

This is wild.

And at this point I closed Photoshop and thought I was done. But then I looked at my timeline on the video and was like...wait...there’s more?

and I’m really glad I kept watching because it went back to Alex, who...is apparently just still at those steps in this haunted ass Pyramid.

Now we’re watching Yugioh.

I forgot for a second when they turned Joey into a Himbo and made Pharaoh literate, but we’re back. I mean...

...look at the liner art on this adult man.

So...I posit the question...has Alex spent the last 2-3 episodes doing nothing but applying eyeliner to his face in the dark? Because he absolutely has. And honestly, the vibe of being in a spooky haunted pyramid with barely any light, just applying eyeliner down the edge of your face...that’s a Yugioh vibe, if I ever saw one.

This arc is wild. Anyway, next episode we do even more fetch quests and riddles? Just going to guess now that we probably will.

The Yugioh Arcs Ranked

I’m going to rank all the main arcs of the original Yugioh anime with the exception of season zero and Capsule Monsters, because I haven’t seen those. This is just my own personal opinion, it’s not objective in any way. In fact, from looking at other people’s lists, I think I might piss a few people off with how I ranked these. Remember, this is just my opinion. Also, disclaimer, I did watch this show in dub. While from what I’ve seen of the sub is infinitely better, I did get into the show and I do still think it is a good show in dub. Still, some of the story details might be slightly different for that reason. (Going forward with the spin-offs, I am watching sub.)

7 Dungeon Dice Monsters

This arc served one purpose and one purpose alone: to introduce Duke Devlin/Ryuji Otogi and establish him as a friend of the main group before he comes back in Battle City to… do basically nothing? Personally, I barely saw the purpose in Tristan/Honda and Anzu/Tea so introducing yet another cheerleader for Yugi who doesn’t do much on his own confuses me. Ryuji admittedly has more character than Honda and Anzu and the stuff with the Dungeon Dice Monsters game itself is kind of cool but the other arcs had much more to them so this arc is at the bottom just by default.

6 Noah’s Saga (Or Virtual World)

Onto the first filler arc. There are three arcs of this show that don’t accomplish anything for the overall story and this is one of them. If you don’t know, these arcs aren’t even from the manga. In Japan, Yugioh was based on a then ongoing manga so the filler arcs were created to give the manga writer time to finish the manga so the anime could adapt it. So while I understand the reasoning behind this, I think placing Noah’s Saga in the middle of Battle City was a pretty bad idea in my opinion, as it's nothing but a distraction that destroys the flow of the story and goes on for way too long. It’s not bad though. The deck master gimmick is fun and adds an interesting twist to the duels. It was also interesting learning more about the Kaiba family and especially Seto’s backstory. Overall however, this arc drags in parts and while Noah is still a good villain objectively, he's a complete brat and I personally find that annoying. Still, it was nice seeing Mokuba turn Noah to the heroes’ side through sheer goodness alone.

5 Grand Tournament (Or KC Grand Prix)

Another filler arc. I’m putting this one over Noah’s arc because while that one had the better individual moments and did more for the characters, this arc didn’t overstay its welcome like that one did. It also genuinely shocked me by having Kaiba actually defeat the main villain rather than going the stereotypical way and having Yugi beat him. That’s worth a few points in my book. (It was also just a really good duel.) I also liked Joey’s/Jonouchi’s duel with Yugi’s grandfather, his former mentor. It was annoying how he didn’t recognize him but it was still a nice way to show how far Jonouchi has come since the start of the series. Overall, this arc is just fine. I’d probably skip it if I ever rewatched the series but it’s not without its merit.

4 Duelist Kingdom

Okay, this is the point where I’m probably gonna piss people off. Don’t get me wrong, I still like Duelist Kingdom. It’s a really good start to the show, gradually establishing the characters and the game of Duel Monsters in a really natural way. It also includes some of my favourite duels in the series: Kaiba and Yugi’s duel on the tower, and Kaiba and Yugi’s duels with Pegasus. Speaking of Pegasus, he’s a great villain. He is made out to be undefeatable and actually lives up to that reputation due to the powers of the Millenium Eye. Yugi and the Pharaoh have to repeatedly switch minds in order to beat him, which was really interesting to see. However… This is not the best arc of the show. A lot of the duels before the finals aren’t all that interesting and go on for way too long. They’re not bad duels per say, just uninteresting and padded. When I first started watching this show, I was mostly using it as background while I wrote. The filler duels just didn’t grab my attention and I have no interest in revisiting them. The parts that made me look up from my writing were anything with Kaiba (who I latched onto very early for personal, coping reasons), the times Bakura went into evil mode, and pretty much everything from Yugi and Kaiba’s duel on the tower and onward. I knew about Kaiba attempting suicide but what I didn’t know was that the Pharaoh nearly went through with killing him and had to be stopped by Yugi. That was the moment where I realized this show was more than just “a dumb kids’ show” and was willing to go dark places, despite how much the 4Kids dub wanted to hide that. It was the moment where I actually became interested in the show. So yes, this is a good arc, but later arcs in my opinion topped it.

3 Waking the Dragons

Yes, I put a filler arc over the classic season one. Honestly though, this season was so good I didn’t even know it was a filler arc until I did my research. Sure, it moved the focus away from the Millennium Items but the character development for Mai, Yugi, and the Pharaoh felt so genuine and was really interesting. This season basically forced me to see the differences between Yugi and the Pharaoh by separating them for quite a bit of the season, which was another thing that really surprised me. I was used to this show being darker at this point. However, I never expected them to actually kill the main character, even if it was obviously just temporary. That’s a pretty ballsy move. I grew to really like the Pharaoh and Yugi this season. And Mai’s fall to villainy and the exploration of her trauma from Battle City was very interesting and tragic. This show writes villains very well and this season is a great example of that. I really like stories where the villains’ motivation is to destroy the world due to their hatred of humanity/the world. Valon, Allister, and Raphael all have genuinely sad backstories that perfectly explain why they adopted this viewpoint. Dartz not so much. However, he is still a great villain. He has such a presence and the way he manipulated all these people and even twisted their minds with the Orichalcos was delightfully twisted. However, his ‘redemption’ at the end was really out of nowhere and unnecessary and Pegasus’s involvement in this season was… weird to say the least. Overall, however, I really like this arc. I understand the backlash, since this is a filler arc and a really long one at that, but I personally really enjoyed it.

2 Dawn of the Duel

Yeah, the final arc isn’t the best one. Time travel stories really don’t appeal to me personally. However, in situations where the thing in question was already bonkers as hell before introducing time travel I’m more willing to let it slide and get into the silliness of the time travel idea rather than picking it apart. A lot of its logic makes no sense if you think about it even a little but seeing the conclusion to all these long running arcs was really satisfying. Bakura is also a great villain. I was wondering what they were going to do with him all series so for him to finally have the spotlight as the main villain and to learn that he actually had a sympathetic backstory was really cool to see. This is the arc with the least actual dueling so I can see why people who watch this show for the duels would be disappointed. However, I watched the show for the lore and the characters, which were the focus of this arc and personally, I loved seeing the ancient real life version of Duel Monsters. The battles felt more intense due to them being real. Also, I will admit that the final scene where they all say goodbye to Atem got tears out of me, which I didn’t think this show would ever do.

1 Battle City (Both parts, splitting it was stupid)

Okay, this is the season that made me a fan. It’s the point where I started actively blogging about it and even analyzing it a bit. First of all, this arc had, in my opinion, the best villain in the series: Marik. His redemption arc was the only one in the show that was justified or made any goddamn sense for that matter (besides Kaiba but I don’t really count him as a villain). Marik’s backstory did a good job making him sympathetic without excusing his terrible actions. Even before his darker side took over, Marik was a really good villain, using his millennium item to mind control and kind of terrorize his minions all while hiding in the shadows so when the heroes actually see him, they don't even realize it's him. Granted the story didn't do much with that plot point but it was still cool. Also, I didn’t think this show would actually go as far as to have the villain mind control Yugi’s friends and even force Yugi to duel one of them to the death. That genuinely surprised me, as did the Yami Marik twist. This arc also added a lot to the lore, which was the aspect of Duelist Kingdom that I was most interested in and was barely touched on in that arc. In Battle City however, we got the Egpytian God Cards, two more Millenium Items, the history of the Tomb Keepers, all of which were really interesting. This arc also has a lot of the best duels in the series, which I can try and list:

-Kaiba vs Ishizu (I hate the way destiny is written in this series, but Kaiba changing his destiny was the most badass thing ever. Even I can’t deny that.)

-The best Yugi vs Kaiba battle (Tied with their Duelist Kingdom one honestly, those are both great but this one had two god cards clash. I can’t help but love it.)

-Jonouchi vs Marik (The sub gave me chills and even the dub made my heart skip a beat and think they were actually going to break anime rules and let Jonouchi win. Also, the dub gave us the amazing “according to my math, six is higher than two” line, which I unironically love.)

-Yugi vs Marik (I mean come on. It’s the final battle and seeing Marik regain control and overcome his dark side was great.)

Anyways, that was my personal ranking. I think I’m generally in agreement with the fandom consensus except I feel Duelist Kingdom is a little overrated and Waking the Dragons is underrated. I will do this with GX when I finish it though I admit I have been really on and off about watching that show due to real life reasons.

I don’t... really have any?? I write plenty of angsty situations. Competitionverse (my duke/seto business business au) is probably the angstiest one and the one I have the worst plans for. I have some secret fanfic of 1930s gangster Joey that I’ve kind of put out in the world so maybe that?

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

Haaahaha what drew me back to fanfiction after not writing it for at least a decade was domestic portraits of kaijou so, like, that’s what I write. Probably Baby Dragon or In Awe of Flowers.

7. Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

Not crossovers but I write... a lot of AUs and in fact did an entire compilation one year for NaNoWriMo I never finished. Most niche is the Black Tapes AU that yes I do have a full outline for including timelines for every characters and how they intersect with the grand conspiracy, and maybe the wildest is Long Way to a Small Angry Planet just for making Joey a feathered reptile alien.

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I’ve gotten some comments over writing Duke as non-binary and kind of a weird one on my super secret FE3H fanfiction fighting me on a plot point??

9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?

I didn’t, but now I do. I don’t post 90% of what I write, which is maybe weirder?  It’s been really good to be pushed there by friends and develop that part of my writing, so maybe I’ll post more. Probably not tho. I feel like I’ve branded myself as the KaiJou hand kink person but I still don’t write it enough to be anyone’s go-to.

I guess not technically. Me and @saggiclowns bounce ideas off each other, write fanfiction for each other’s fanfiction, and have definitely developed things together, so maybe that counts? But our IP is individualized.

I have almost exclusively written KaiJou so you think that’d be the obvious answer. I think my actual all time favorite ship that sends me to the moon is probably Marceline/Bubblegum from Adventure Time (the history!!!! the animosity!!!!! the friendship!!!!!!!), I just... don’t want to read AT fanfiction.

14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Hahahaaaaaaa. I am WIP queen!! Back in the day I’d start a hundred fanfics just to abandon them! The same’s true of today I just don’t post every thought that comes into my head. Star Trek AU deserves so much more of my attention and I do have a plan for it and I bought a special little Star Trek notebook to keep all my thoughts ideas and notes in and then when it comes to writing it I struggle.

15. What are your writing strengths?

Genuinely, to toot my own horn, I feel I write very naturalistic dialogue and for the longest time writing dialogue was the easiest thing in the world to me, to the point that sometimes I would skip over anything else. Also, gosh I love world building. I could go from a blank screen to a fully articulated society complete with maps, pantheons, and intricate histories for every location. The problem is then writing it.

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

I tend to get very stuck on things and struggle to skip over them. Last year’s NaNoWriMo was a testament to that, and I kept rewriting and getting frustrated and will inevitably end up trashing the whole thing. I pick up new ideas constantly and then discard them for the next thought in my head. It’s part of why I’ve only really let myself write one shots and short fic, but I do have some longer WIP I’d love to actually finish.

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

This is a tricky one and I’ve read and listened to a lot of people talk about how other non-fluent languages are presented in all kinds of different art. I personally don’t have a strong opinion. Best practice is to find someone who is fluent in that language to help you translate it (and there used to be whole blogs dedicated to helping people with this, I don’t know if they’re still around), but that doesn’t mean I’ve never jammed anything into a translator.

18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

This... is interesting because the answer is YuGiOh. Back in my middle school days my friends were very into ygo and wrote silly like chat formatted fics that we posted on DeviantArt (???) that were just really bad and stupid and silly, and the only reason I even thought about ygo was because all my friends liked it. The first fandom I actually really got involved in was Teen Titans, and ATLA I was, like, a recognizable presence. I fell off extremely hard probably thanks to college and have spent most of my life focusing on original fiction and writing my own characters. Then my best friend sent me a piece of fanart that unlocked my childhood memories, and here we are now, in the only fandom.

19. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

I wrote Bite Hard and it might be one of the best things I’ve written... and now I’ve kind of repurposed it into an original fiction??? I think the main characters might always be buddies no matter how much I’ve manipulated them, but it’s kind of spun off into it’s own thing? That’s what fanfiction’s for! Experimentation, playing with ideas, having a sandbox to build in! And then I EL James it and make millions! (jk)

So while clearing out my drafts this morning I found this “things I know about anime” bit that I wrote up just about a year ago, right before I actually started watching a fair amount of anime (thanks #lockdownime!)

When people were posting for the new year/reflecting on the Year of Quarantine I was thinking mine would be “Year in Review: mostly anime” b/c I didn’t do much else last year, so now this is the first half of that. I, for one, am pretty amused by this and how my impressions have changed since I’ve watched (and/or read a lot of discussions of) most of them now. I also want to write up a response/current opinions on anime to contrast but that will take a while.

So, as of February 2020--

Secondhand opinions on anime (from hanging out with weebs for nearly two decades and then spending way too much time on tumblr for the last year or so):

Pre-tumblr animes:

Pokemon: THIS was actually my first anime, but I always forget it’s an anime since I learned about it from the card game and seeing it on American cartoon channels. We didn’t have TV growing up so I didn’t actually see much of it.

Naruto – like I said in the other post, I've known about it forever and I thought I knew the rough plot until I started seeing fanart and discussions on tumblr. There sure are a lot of characters, and I have no idea how any of them fit into it beside the main trio and their teacher.

Yugioh – this was the anime we were too embarrassed to watch in middle school. Actually it might be more than one anime? Idk, seems to have died like bleach.

Bleach – this isn’t Death Note, but not too sure what it actually is. Ghosts maybe? Apparently super passe, except for the opening song I never see anything about it online anymore.

FMA – if I ever actually get around to watching things this is the one I’ll watch this first. Also see a fair amount of discussion of it on tumblr too, great memes.

Ace Attorney – first heard of it in middle school, I only see it on tumblr for ridiculous memes, but good staying power there I guess.

Detective Conan – my weeb best friend really liked this is early high school. I still see it around on AO3 in recommendations and stuff but don’t know enough about it to read and/or haven’t gotten hooked by a fic to go learn about it.

Attack on Titan – was really big among my weeb friends in college but I never see anything about it anymore. They actually got me to watch an episode or two but it was too gory for me.

[Note from 2021: This is missing Death Note and Chobits and I’m not sure why. Studio Ghibli is another major oversight, perhaps 1-year-ago-me considered that distinct from anime? Hmm]

Tumblr animes:

BNHA – I actually know the plot and characters pretty thorough b/c YUTS, but even before I started reading fanfiction I kinda knew the characters either because they’re very distinctive designs or because (my corner of?) tumblr was obsessed with this show last fall.

PMMM – this third most common anime on my dash, because rat-adj people love it I guess? I think I know the plot pretty well, but don’t see much fanart and only know the two main characters and the evil cat spirit.

WAIT I MIGHT BE CONFLATING PMMMM and NGE, uhhh woops

Gintama – I’ve never seen this show, don’t know anything about it, but tumblr radar has decided I’m a fan and keeps suggesting that I follow fan blogs for it?!

Demon Slayer – also see a lot of fanart for this, the four main characters are pretty distinctive.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure – next level memes here! (I don’t actually know the plot or characters but I think it’s set in “Italy”?)

Mob Psycho – lot’s of fanfic but don’t see much fanart/discussion on tumblr

Gundam – I’ll be honest I can’t actually distinguish between the different gundam animes. One of the [***left finished, no idea what I was going to write here]

GX is my fave as well so we've got a lot in common there, I know I post mainly Arc-V now but GX will always be my first love when it comes to Yugioh. You sound like you'd get along well with my partner, she also fully believes that all the protags are straightn't and neurodivegent. I mean, I do too, I just hadn't really thought about it like that until she said it, then I was just like "Huh damn you right."

End of the Year Fic Roundup

Got tagged by @heyitsharding, thanks!^^ I’m posting it here, since I have more followers on my main who might care about it and I want to leave the side blog really just for writing itself. This will be a bit strange I think, because I just started writing this year, so it’s less what changed and more what happened in the first place.

Progress: 

I’ve uploaded on Ao3 a bit more than 75k words, together with the wips I haven’t finished yet, and the just the character building things I did on tumblr, it’s probably somewhere between 80k and 85k. For someone who wrote like... 8k words (fanfiction, I wrote a whole lot more for school of course) in her whole life before, that’s a lot. I started writing because Waidwen deserves mor attention, and hardly anyone else gave him any, so I decided to just do it. And now we’re here. It’s very strange honestly. At this point I almost write more than I read which is... slightly disorienting sometimes. Over the course of the year my approach has changed a lot as well. It started out very focused on structure and specific details, and then towards the end became more and more vibe oriented really. Hildraed is essentially just me writing what jumps at me with exactly no focus on any sort of theme or such. It’s just me, indulging my ideas and feels. And I do like that, but I also think there are other projects that deserve more attention than just doing whatever.

(Actually I just caught myself in a lie. I started another yugioh fanfic at some point, and also I wrote a whole ass play as a kid for a contest. I still think I would have deserved at least an honerable mention. If anyone cares, maybe I’ll write down what it was about some point. Maybe I should try find it again...)

New Things I tried:

Everything really, since I didn’t really do anything before. But I guess I started out relatively basic, with writing in past tense about specific events, and later got into more vibe specific stuff, with second person, present tense and all that. Also I decided to chuck my inhibitions out of the window, and just write without caring how others might interpret it. Because here’s the thing, it doesn’t matter if anyone interprets for example Broder’s and Waidwen’s relationship as gay, because it’s still me who writes it, and can make it what I want. And if I say men get to be tender and intimite without any sexual or romantic intentions, than that’s entirely my right, just like it’s anyone’s right to write as much gay intimacy as they want, and that’s entirely valid for both of us.

Favorite thing I wrote:

I don’t think I can really choose anything to be honest. But a few I particularily like are A Death in Your Name, because I think it balances the line between original content and canon compliance pretty well, and also actually has a nice structure I think (even if I’m not too happy with Favaen’s short appearence, though to be fair that was still very early in her existance.). The Miracle of Verdant Vorlas is also one of my best I think, probably also because it’s based on a canon event, and also because it was pretty much the start of my obession with Waidwen and Eothas, and has heavily influenced everything that I wrote after. Reperire Regem has the unfortunate fate of me getting side tracked too early, but I will finish it, and it will be glorious. Someday. Waidwen will have a proper story with his friends. I’m a bit sad how little attention ashes of the dawn got, cause it’s really one of my favourites, that plays a lot on Eothas and his feelings on what does an has done. It also has one of my favourite headcanon’s, namely that Maerwald kind of knew about him under the castle, just not who exactly he is. I just really like that idea. Writing Gay was just a lot of fun. It was also an interesting challenge describing someone’s attraction. I’m really proud of What Wael Sees, if only for its name. I thought that was really clever.

I think that was more than half of what I wrote, but I guess that just means I like what I did, which is good and certainly won’t complain. I don’t like everything I’ve ever written, but there is something I like in everything I’ve ever written.

Writing goals for next year:

I really want to at least continue Reperire Regem, if not finish it. I’d also like to branch out my fandom’s a bit, because I have this one-shot lying around that I promised a fanrtist on twitter about baby Claude, and it’s been more than half a year. I know I’m not obligated to anything, but I really just want to finish this thing. Also there is a thing about Tamary that’s almost done, and a sad Loki thing that I started like 5 years ago. I also started a tiny choice script fangame for Pillars of Eternity (like, really tiny. More of a moodpiece really) that would be great to finish. When I’m done with that I’ll post a link to where it is on Dashingdon (who do allow fancontent, I checked thrice just to be sure), but that’s still gonna take a while. I’d absolutely love it if I did ever manage to make my own, real choicescript game, but probably won’t be 2021 yet. The fan thing is a good way to practice though. One tiny sneak peek for you: It’s called: The Wheel. ;)

One of the most unpredictable muses that I have. Possible plots- depends on the time line. If its in the pendulum era. Literally anything can happen. There is a large gap of time (9 years) of things that could of happen but the anime or manga didn’t show. The same goes with his Captain era. We don’t really see much then or anything relating to his time in Muken. There is a lot of different situations that could happen with the right other muse.  

- With what type of Muses do you usually struggle to rp with?: muses who are hopelessely romantics. muses who don’t have much to work with in a plot.    - With what type of Muses do they usually work well with?:  muses who has similar mind set as him or could be as unpredictable. . Characters that could possibly catch him off guard or catch his interest because of the way they act.

- What interests your Muse(s) in general:  evolution, Science related things. hollowification experimenting. becoming a god.  - What do they desire, is their goal?:   Their goal . It depends most verses  its to gain access to the royal realm and become the one true god, and change the soul society. - What catches their interest first when meeting someone new?:  The way that they handle them selves, there intentional personally.   - What do they value in a person?:    Loyalty. Hard working.  - What themes do they like talking about?:  he likes when people talk about themselves. He can learn more about them. Literally just talk to him. don’t go trying to challenge or question his ego.  Literally just talk to him with any amount of respect .  depending on the verse- his responses may very. but other then that- He is rather easy to approach depending on your intentions to be approaching him. - Where are they usually to find?: His office in division five, hueco mondo, (Specifically in Los Noches), Muken. The forest near rukongai (only really applies to pendulum verse).    

Something you may still want to point out about your muse?:  he is nerd with a god complex.  he deserves a more flesh out back story then what the Manga gave him.  I try to keep him as close to the manga, keeping all of the things that happen in the manga and anime as canon.
