She doesn't like a captain
Requested by: @blueberrycoffee19
I was on my adventure to go save Jack from Davy Jones's Locker. Sao Feng gave Barbossa a ship and a crew so we can go and save Jack, here are we going to the end of the World. I was standing with Barbossa talking when my younger sister Elizabeth came to us.
"Stay! Away! From! Her!"
Barbossa looked at her with questionable face and I looked at her shocked.
"Elizabeth what is wrong with you?"
"WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?! HE IS A PIRATE!! YOU CAN'T DATE HIM!!"
Barbossa looked at ne now shocked. He didn't knew that I have a feelings for him. I started to panic.
"ELIZABETH!!! First!! Will is pirate as well!!! Second!!! You can't say who I can or can't date!!!"
Whit that I saw Barbossa getting into captain's cabin or should I say his cabin. I looked at him while he was getting away and started feeling angry.
"THANKS ELIZABETH HE DIDN'T KNOW THAT I LOVE HIM!!! NOW I LOST FRIEND TOO!!"
"FRIEND?! LET ME HELP YOU TO REMEMBER BUT HE KIDNAPPED ME!!!"
"BECAUSE YOU LIED THAT YOU ARE TURNER'S KID!!!"
"(name) HE IS BAD MAN, HE ISN'T HONEST, HE WILL JUST USE YOU!!!"
Those words hurted like hell. Maybe she was right but maybe she wasn't.
"Wow Elizabeth.... You decided that you can tell me that I can't be with pirate but you can??"
She looked at me a little bit sad and I just walked away from her. I was sitting and watching stars when Pintel and Ragetti came to me.
"Hey (name), captain wants to see you"
Oh no... I thanked them and went to Barbossa's cabin when I came in he was nowhere to be found. I looked at room to see if he is somewhere else but I didn't see him.
"Captain?? You wanted to see me??"
And after that I felt another body pressed on mine from behind. He took my waist and could feel his breath on my neck.
"Captain..." I moaned.
He pulled my waist closer to his and could feel his member starting to be hard.
"So you have a crush on your captain (name)??" He asked while kissing my neck
I couldn't answer because I was enjoying in this moment. He slapped my ass and grabbed it, and I moaned.
"Answer your captain young lass"
"Yes... I have a crush on my captain"
He rolled me to see his face.
"And what shall I do to you for that??"
"You can do whatever you want captain, Im all yours"
He started walking towards bed and sat there looking at me.
"Strip for me lass"
And I did what he said. I took off my corset and white dress along with my boots. He looked at me like he saw a goddess. He put his hand on his lap and I knew already what to do. I sat on his lap trying not to sit on his member but he pulled me to sit on it.
"Don't run from him, you can't run from him now"
I looked at him and put my hand on his cheek.
"Can I kiss you captain?"
He smiled at me and kissed me. He took my waist into his hands and started to move me up and down, I moaned into his lips and Im sure he liked that. To be honest I started to feel so close and Barbossa could see it, he let go of my waist and let me do this how I want. Hw as laying on his hand looking and smiling at me. I started to go faster and after a few minutes I came in his lap.
"I hope you know thatwe are not done here, m'lady"
He said and slapped my ass a little. He rolled us so i was laying on bed and he was on top of me.
"Don't you think it's unfair that Im naked and you are full clothed??" I asked.
He stood up from bed and I looked confused, did I said something wrong?
"Than undress me lass" he said and smiled.
I stood up and took his clothes off. He pushed me on bed again and entered me, the pain was huge and he saw me crying.
"Have you ever had sex (name)??"
"No...."
He looked shocked a little and than he waited for me to give him signal that he can move. I started to move and than he started also to move in and out. As the time was passing he started to go faster and faster and after some time we both came. He pulled out and went to get some water he gave me to drink it first but than he spilt it on his hand and cleaned blood from my thighs. I stood up and took his shirt and dressed myself in it and got back to bed. He smiled and got back to bed too.
"Did you just use me?"
He looked at me shocked and stood up a little to see my face.
"Who told you that??"
"Elizabeth..."
"I know that I don't have great backstory with yo sister m'love but I would never use a lass if she isn't a Tortuga whore"
I smiled at him and we kissed. We were cuddling and talking a little more but than we both fall asleep. In the morning when I woke up I saw that Barbossa wasn't in bed so i dressed myself and found him talking with Elizabeth. I went a little bit more closer so I can hear them.
"I know I didn't have a good start with you Miss Swann but I would never use your sister for my pleasure. I know it sounds weard to you to hear this from pirate but I need you to trust me in this that I love your sister".
Elizabeth looked at him, trying to see if he is lying bht she saw he was telling the truth.
"Just don't break her heart she is good person"
"I can promise you that"
They smiled at each other, and I came out from my spot.
"Wow you two maybe will get a good second start"
Elizabeth looked at me and laughed.
"We are good just because of you, I still hate him for kidnapping"
"You shouldn't lie miss Turner" he said and laughed.
I hugged my now boyfriend and Elizabeth left us alone.
"I love you captain"
"hmm don't call me that outside of my cabin or I will fuck you Infront of everyone" he said and smiled.
I laughed and kissed him.
"I love you too (name) Swann"

MK SO-
I just got the Pokémon SWSH DLCs and I was wondering what it would be like for some legendary Pokémon to come to twst and cause some trouble(Legendarys I’d like to do ( you c an pick just one: Kyogre, Giratina, or Groudon)
If you can i want it to be just Diasomina!
This turned out longer than I expected and I got so mad with myself because I was almost done with writing this and I accidently deleted all my new work, so I had to start over from my last save point which is one of the reasons it took so long to post.
I’ve been binge playing the old Sinnoh games and rewatching the anime, so this was fun to write (despite me deleting my work).
This will have references to the Pokémon Platinum game, so spoilers if you haven’t played the game and plan to.
Hope you enjoy!
Malleus's favorite time of the day was night time. Night time was the best!
The world was at peace, it was quiet, everything was asleep, save for a few nocturnal creatures much like himself, he could hide from SIlver and Sebek and have some time to himself, and there were no students or humans who would see him and run away in terror.
But his favorite thing about night time was probably when he got to visit his favorite human, (Y/n).
Their situation was a bit odd, having appeared out of nowhere from a world full of creatures called Pokémon, but Malleus didn't care. They weren't afraid of him. After spending a lifetime of having people fear him due to his name, it was a nice change.
Malleus arrived at the Ramshackle dorm to find you already sitting outside, cleaning your Empoleon's feathers.
"Greetings, Child of Man." He greeted, happily walking up to you.
"Hey, Tsunotaro." You smiled, putting down Empoleon's brush to wave at him.
That was another thing Malleus adored about you. Even after finding out who he was, you still didn't fear him and continued calling him by that amusing nickname you gave him.
You both entered the dorm, along with Empoleon, and he was instantly greeted with the rest of your strange creatures. Luxray, Togekiss, Glaceon, Garchomp, and Lucario.
You headed over to the kitchen to make some tea while he got comfortable on the couch. Once he was seated, Garchomp laid its head on Malleus's lap, implying that it wanted scratches.
By the time you had returned with two mugs of steaming tea, all the other Pokémon had already gotten comfortable and most had fallen asleep.
You handed Malleus his mug before sitting down in your chair. Glaceon hopped up and curled up in your lap before falling back asleep.
After you both got comfortable, you began regaling Malleus with stories of your world.
Malleus loved hearing your stories.
From your gym battle challenges to your contests. Catching all your Pokémon and even receiving an egg from a woman named Cynthia that hatched into a Togepi that which layer evolved into your beloved Togekiss.
Malleus has never left the Valley of Thorns, except for school, so he enjoyed hearing about your travels. Your freedom to journey and see so many different places, never being tied down, he envied it.
“May I see your badges and ribbons again?” He asked.
“Sure.” You agreed, getting up to grab them.
At the movement, Glaceon, rather huffily, got up from your lap and moved to Malleus, curling up on his lap instead. He instantly started stroking her with one hand while the other continued scratching Garchomp. He only stopped when you handed him your badge and ribbon case.
He immediately opened them both and admired your impressive 7 badges and 5 sparkling ribbons.
You had told him that even though you had collected the required number of ribbons, you were transported to Twisted Wonderland before you could compete in the Grand Festival. You also hadn’t yet had the chance to earn your 8th and final gym badge, which allowed you to challenge the Elite Four and the Sinnoh Champion.
“They are very impressive, Child of Man.” Malleus complemented.
Even though there wasn’t a gym challenge or contests in Twisted Wonderland, Malleus could tell how much value each badge and ribbon you earned had.
“Thanks, Tsunotaro.” You beamed, positively preening at the complement. “Maybe when I find a way home you could come with me and have your own journey. There are a bunch of dragon type Pokémon I bet you’d like. Maybe your starter could be an Axew. Or a Dino. Maybe a Gible seeing how well you get along with Garchomp. There are also rock or electric types. OOH- Maybe a fairy type!”
Malleus tuned your rambling out. His head was both empty and racing.
Him? Go on a journey in another world? The idea was preposterous! Yet... also tempting.
Traveling around with no chains. Nobody knowing who he was, thus no one quivering at the sight of him. No overbearing, but well meaning, guards to coddle him. He liked this idea!
Unfortunately, he didn’t have long to dwell on the tempting daydream when Ramshakle’s door slammed open with a loud bang.
“WAKA-SAMA!!!”
Speak of the devil.
You and Malleus turned to the doorway to a disheveled and hysterical looking Sebek and a normal sleepy looking Silver.
“Sebek.” Malleus greeted, hiding his annoyance of being interrupted during his time with his Child of Man.
“Waka-sama, you mustn’t leave without telling us! What if something happens to y-”
The half-fae was cut off by and ice beam, freezing him solid. You and Malleus looked over at Glaceon who was angry about having her sleep disturbed for a third time. Now quite irritated and huffy, Glaceon angrily marched upstairs to try and get some sleep in your room.
“My apologies.” You jumped when Lilia appeared behind you without warning, hanging upside down as usual. “They ran off when I wasn’t looking.”
You looked back at the other Diasomnia residence. Silver had already fallen asleep, using Togekiss’s soft, feathery body as a pillow, while Sebek was slowly beginning to thaw out of the ice.
You wish you could say this is the weirdest thing to ever happen with them.
After having Lucario use force-palm and free Sebek, you all sat down near the fire.
(You left Silver be since he was already asleep.)
Sebek wanted to know what was so fascinating about you that Waka-sama would continuously come visit you.
The only thing you could think of was telling them about your journey.
“After I won my seventh gym badge at Snowpoint, I had to meet my friend, Barry, at Lake Acuity and right after that I had to meet with Professor Rowan and Lucas at Lake Verity.”
“Why did you have to go to those lakes?” Lilia asked, genuinely curious as to what value they had.
“Uh, well-- mmh-- pthbbt.” You tried to think of a way to avoid that question, or at least dance your way around it, and the stuttering and raspberry blowing was obviously helping you be discreet in avoiding the question.
“GLACE!!”
A loud yell echoed from upstairs thatw as loud enough to wake even Silver. You were momentarily grateful that you had been interrupted before realizing ‘Oh shit that’s my Pokémon.”
“Glaceon!” You yelled, bolting from your chair and rushing up the stairs with your Pokémon and the Diasomnia boys at your heels.
You opened your bedroom door with a loud bang and saw Glaceon in a defensive stance, hissing at the mirror with Grim looking frazzled.
“Fgaah! Minion, control your Pokémon! I was asleep and then it started shouting and tried to attack the mirror!” He yelled angrily, before stalking off to the living room to continue sleeping.
You sighed before looking over at the mirror. You held out your arm towards your Pokémon so they knew not to do anything yet. You inched closer to the mirror, pausing only for a second to pet Glaceon and calm her down a bit. You walked forward a few more steps until you were face-to-face with the mirror.
Now that you were closer, you could see the shadow of something moving within the glass. You didn’t know what it was, but it wasn’t Micky. You leaned a bit closer, trying to make out the figure--
“GIRATINA!!”
Everything went black.
~
The first thing you noticed when you could see again was that you were clearly not in your room. Or your dorm for that matter.
Everything was weird. You weren’t sure of any other way to describe it other than weird.
Weird and familiar.
“The Reverse World.” You muttered, shocked by your sudden return to the feared Giratina’s playground.
You didn’t have long to stay dumbfounded when you remembered the Legendary who lived in this world. You frantically looked around you and saw that your team and the boys were with you, which did nothing to curb your panic. Grim wasn’t with you all, so you assumed hoped that he was still at Ramshackle.
You first woke up your Pokémon. They freaked out for a second before realizing where they were, putting them all on guard. They carefully scanned their surroundings for anything they found threatening while you quickly crawled over to the boys, traying to shake them awake.
“Get up. Guys, get up! We need to move!”
The Diasomnia boys hardly registered what was happening and where they were before you pulled them away. Your team created a barrier around you all as you lead the boys through the strange new world. All they could do was look around wildly.
“Careful, gravity gets weird here.” You warned them.
True to your words, the piece of land you all were walking on started to curve in the air until you all started walking upside down. Even Lilia, who was used to hanging upside down, was a bit thrown off about this.
“What is this place?” Silver asked what everyone was thinking, knowing that you were the only one who could give any of them an answer.
“The Distortion World.” You explained. “Also known as the Reverse World. It’s kind of like the Underworld of my world.”
That explanation only provided them with more questions but went they entered a place that had these large bubbles floating around them they were quickly distracted.
“Hey,” Silver called, gaining everyone’s attention. “This thing has headmaster Crowley in it.”
Said bubble did have a picture of Crowley in his office, working late into the night. Huh. Who know he actually did anything.
Silver raised a hand towards the bubble.
“No, don’t touch it!” You exclaimed. Unfortunately it was a second to late and the bubble popped at the slightest graze of Silver’s fingers.
The boys looked over to you at the sound of you yell, seeing your panicked expression.
“Don’t. Touch. Anything.” You order, stressing out each word. “Everything in this world effects the real world. If you aren’t careful you could kill someone through this place.
The boys looked positively alarmed.
“Will the headmaster be alright?”
You waved off their concern, continuing to lead the way. “He’ll be fine. Popping that bubble didn’t kill him, but it did feel like he was hit with a bowling ball.
“How do you know this? How do you know so much about this place, (Y/n).” Lilia asked, dead serious.
You glance over your shoulder at them before sighing.
Guess it was time to come clean.
“There are some things that happened during my journey that I didn’t tell you guys about.” You confessed.
“While journeying through Sinnoh, I constantly ran into an organization called Team Galactic. Their leader, Cyrus, believed that the world was ugly and needed to be destroyed. His plan was to capture the legendary Pokémon, Palkia and Dialga, and the Lake Guardians, Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf. Those three were the reason I met Barry and Professor Rowan at the lakes, Lilia, to try and save the Lake Guardians from Team Galactic. Anyway, Cyrus claimed that he was going to create his own, perfect world using the powers of the legendary Pokémon. At least I think that was his plan. He talks like Shakespeare and I have a middle school education. Anyway, before he could create his ‘perfect world’ Giratina appeared and took Cyrus away to here, the Distortion World. This is Giratina’s domain.”
The boys were stunned into silence. They knew you were strong, but for you to have done all that as well as fighting overblots? They were truly impressed.
“What happened afterwards?” Malleus questioned, enthralled by your story.
“Cynthia, the current Sinnoh Champion, and I entered the Distortion World to save Cyrus. Unfortunately, he saw this place as his ideal world and didn’t want to leave. In the end, we had to use force and I beat him in a battle. And, after that, I had to face Giratina itself. But, I don’t know how, but before I could face it, the Dark Mirror called me to Twisted Wonderland.”
You stopped walking, taking a deep breath before turning to face the boys.
“We need to find Giratina. Giratina’s the only Pokémon that can travel between worlds and its the only thing that can get us back to Night Raven.”
Your tone alone was enough to my the Diasomnia boys understand the severity of the situation.
“Human, if this creature is as powerful as you claim, then how do you expect to get it?” Sebek interrogated.
You reached into your pocket and pulled out a purple ball with an ‘M’ on it, showing it the the boys.
“This is a master ball. I stole it from Cyrus’s base when I went to save the Lake Guardians. It can catch any Pokémon without fail. All we need to do is find Giratina.”
“Lucar!”
“Luxray!”
You all turned to Lucario and Luxray who were growling in the same direction. Looking closely, you could see something coming at you all. Your team took their battle stances and sure enough, there was the Angel of Darkness itself, Giratina.
Even Malleus had to admit, that creature was terrifying.
It looked like a dragon and centipede mixed together, but it towered over everything, easily dwarfing them all.
You waisted no time.
“Empoleon, Hydro Cannon!” You ordered. Even Sebek had to admit that your authoritative tone was hard to ignore and resist, full of confidence and superiority.
Empoleon listened without question, fearlessly attacking the towering giant.
“Lucario, Aura Sphere! Glaceon, Ice Beam! Luxray, Thunder! Garchomp, Dragon Rush!”
All your Pokémon attacked at once, hitting Giratina square on. The legendary screeched before firing a move of its own that your team narrowly avoided.
“Great job. Keep attacking!” You ordered shooing the boys out of Giratina’s firing range.
“What do we need to do to help, (Y/n)?” Malleus asked. He was already gripping his pen, ready to fight.
“Nothing. Just stay put and don’t move.” You ordered sternly. The boys were stunned.
“What?! (Y/n) we can help-”
“I know you can help,” You cut off. “But I don’t need to defeat Giratina. I just need to distract it.”
You ran off before they could question what you meant, whistling for your Pokémon.
“Togekiss!” You called, jumping off the edge of the land and easily getting caught by your flying type, who flew you behind Giratina.
You let your team get in one last group attack before throwing the master ball at Giratina.
The legendary effortlessly went in and after a spectacular dive made by you and Togekiss, you caught the ball and returned to the boys.
The boys ran over to you as you climbed off Togekiss, looking at the ball in your hand.
“I can’t believe you actually caught it, human!” Sebek exclaimed, flabbergasted.
“Thanks, Sebek.”
“So what now?” Silver asked. The group all turned to you expectedly and you rolled your eyes before turning around to the wide open space and releasing Giratina from the master ball.
“Giratina,” You called, “Please take us back.”
Giratina stared down at you before letting out an echoing screech and lowing its head to your level.
Immediately understanding what it wanted you to do, you crawled onto its head before waving the boys over.
“C’mon. We its going to take us back.”
Hesitantly, the boys climbed on with your Pokémon and once everyone was on, Giratina soared through the air.
This was different from riding a broom or riding Togekiss, who was happily flying beside you all, but it was exhilarating at the same time.
Too soon for anyone’s tastes, Giratina slowed down to a stop before lowering itself down so that everyone could climb off.
The place were Giratina dropped you all off was a small patch of land with two lakes on it. You and the boys could see your bedroom in one of the lakes, making you realize that you were looking through your bedroom mirror.
“Alright!” You cheered. “Let’s get back.” But before you could step through the reflection, Empoleon called out to you.
“Empoleon!”
“Huh? What is it, Empoleon?”
He was looking in the other lake, pointing at something.
You, your team, and the boys looked through the refection and you couldn’t restrain the gasp that left your mouth.
You could see the Mesprit, the guardian of Lake Verity.
“That’s Mesprit, Lake Verity’s guardian!” You exclaimed, coming to several realizations at once. “That’s close to Twinleaf Town. I-I could go home!”
You turned to your team and the Diasomnia boys, your eyes sparking with both joy and a few unshed tears. “With Giratina we can go home and still stay in Twisted Wonderland!”
Mallues watched you with soft eyes. He had seen a side if you tonight that he had never seen before. Your courage, your confidence, your skill. He had these too, but yours stemmed from experience. This wasn’t something you were taught since you were born like him, these were abilities you learned through trial and error with your team. Something that he wanted.
With a new found determination, Malleus turned to his most trusted knights and friends.
“Lilia, Silver, Sebek,” He began, quickly gaining everyone's attention, “I have decided that until it is time for me to receive the crown from my grandmother, I want to travel (Y/n)’s world with a Pokémon of my own.”
Even you weren’t expecting that announcement.
“WHAT?! WAKA-SAMA ARE YOU FEELING WELL?!?!? WE MUST GET YOU TO AN INFIMERORY!!”
“I’m fine, Sebek. And I’m not joking.”
“WHAAAAAAAT?!?! YOU, HUMAN, YOU HAVE GIVEN WAKA-SAMA THIS DANGEROUS IDEA!!”
“I think its a great idea.”
“MASTER LILIA?!?!”
“zzzzz”
You couldn’t help snorting at the scene in front of you. A rather calm Malleus simply being unmovable about his choice of coming home with you, a hysterical Sebek trying to talk him out of it, an impish looking Lilia who actually supported Malleus’s idea, and a snoozing silver, who could still sleep effortlessly despite the chaos surrounding him.
You leaned up against Empoleon’s belly, him and all your other Pokémon already lying down, knowing that this was going to take a while. Even Giratina was curled up!
But, You thought, watching the group was a soft smile, you know that no matter how much you wanted to go home, you would've missed this. And this, your friends and NRC, was something that you never wanted to lose.
Bonus:
After sorting everything out with Crowley, you returned to your world to reconcile with your friends and your mom. It took some explaining, but bringing Grim back with you as well as Malleus with his magic and horns was enough to convince everyone what happened to you.
Afterwards, you were able to compete in the Grand Festival. You didn’t end up winning, however you did make it to the finals. Your opponent, Dawn, had only beaten you by a few points.
The Diasomnia gang, as well as Grim, the Adeuce combo, and the Pomefiore Trio were all present to see this and couldn’t have been prouder.
Once the Grand Festival had come to a close, you headed over to Sunnyshore City and won your 8th and final Gym Badge, permitting you to challenge the Elite Four and Cynthia.
The Pomefiore Trio didn’t watch these challenges, but the other did.
Their nerves were through the roof when you finally faced Cynthia. And when your Garchomp miraculously out sped her Garchomp with the finishing move nobody cheered louder.
In the end, you took Malleus to the place where you caught Garchomp back when he was still a Gible and caught Malleus his own, whom he unironically named ‘Gargoyle.’
Malleus did have to return to the Valley of Thorns, but not without you promising that the upcoming summer would be the start of his own Pokémon Journey.
I wrote most of this forgetting about Grim, so sorry he doesn’t have a bigger role or more screen time.
Fun story; I got in trouble for writing down my ideas for this at work even though I did it while the store was dead and I’ve worked there for nearly two years and have either written something or drawn something almost every shift I have. Litterally no one but the manager to caught me cares.
And, just to irritate me more (whether she was aware of it or not), said manager takes my writings and decides to read them and then proceeds to put them back in the wrong order before lecturing me.
So, yeah, that was fun.

1 & 15 for the thath ask game? 🌻
What song from THATW did you first fall in love with? Kind of a boring answer after my last set, but it really was the title track again. I already loved Joey from The Witcher and I was obsessed with "King", which my Spotify algorithm correctly predicted in one of my Discovery Weeklies as something I'd love and one day, the summer after THaTW came out, I went, "Oh, I should look up to see what else they've done because I'll love it, too," and found that they'd just released the album. I excitedly put it on and "Rockrose" was really haunting and spoke a lot to a fanfic/AU I'd been working on for something else, but once the drums for "Horror and the Wild" kicked in, it was like my chest exploded. I knew I'd Found Something. If you could recommend only one THATW song to your followers, what would it be? Oooh, geez. I have recommended "That Unwanted Animal" many times in the past but I guess by virtue of which playlists it is on (for two of my favourite fictional pairings), I've recommended "Marbles" the most, probably. I don't know!! It feels like cheating to say the title track again but I just feel like it's so perfectly encapsulating of what you want from them - the ferity, their vocals, the LYRICS, etc.

Why Do Republicans Deny Climate Change
Florida Could Be Underwater In A Few Decades Can Republicans Win The Battleground State If They Refuse To Heed Environmental Warnings
Why Do Republicans Deny Climate Change Science?

MIAMI Florida is waging a quixotic battle against climate change that becomes immediately and aggravatingly apparent when driving anywhere in Miami. Endless orange traffic cones, flashing detour signs, and car-swallowing pits clog the streets as the city tries to rebuild overloaded sewer systems and literally raise roads above the encroaching flood waters.
Sitting in his cramped, cluttered office at the University of Miami, geophysics professor Chris Harrison squints at a rising red line on his computer monitor. It shows sea levels in Key West, which have risen 2 mm per year on average in the last hundred years or so. No longer: Now theyre rising by 3 mm each year bad news for a place where the highest elevation is 345 feet. So is Miami eventually doomed to a watery death?
Well, yes, he said.
Well, yes, he said.
I dont have a plan to influence the weather, he dismissively answered a question about climate change at a town hall in New Hampshire.
People Who Have Changed Their Position
“I used to be a climate-change skeptic”, conservative columnist Max Boot admitted in 2018, one who believed that “the science was inconclusive” and that worry was “overblown”. Now, he says, referencing the Fourth National Climate Assessment, “the scientific consensus is so clear and convincing.”
Climate change doubter Bob Inglis, a former US representative for South Carolina, changed his mind after appeals from his son on his environmental positions, and after spending time with climate scientist Scott Heron studying coral bleaching in the Great Barrier Reef. Inglis lost his House race in 2010, and went on to found republicEn, a nonprofit promoting conservative voices and solutions on climate change.
Jerry Taylor promoted climate denialism for 20 years as former staff director for the energy and environment task force at the American Legislative Exchange Council and former vice president of the Cato Institute. Taylor began to change his mind after climate scientist James Hansen challenged him to reread some Senate testimony. He became President of the Niskanen Center in 2014, where he is involved in turning climate skeptics into climate activists, and making the business case for climate action.
Weather Channel senior meteorologist Stu Ostro expressed skepticism or cynicism about anthropogenic global warming for some years, but by 2010, he had become involved in explaining the connections between man-made climate change and extreme weather.”
Farmers And Climate Denial
Seeing positive economic results from efforts at climate-friendly agricultural practices, or becoming involved in intergenerational stewardship of a farm may play a role in turning farmers away from denial. One study of climate change denial among farmers in Australia found that farmers were less likely to take a position of climate denial if they had experienced improved production from climate-friendly practices, or identified a younger person as a successor for their farm.
In the United States, rural climate dialogues sponsored by the Sierra Club have helped neighbors overcome their fears of political polarization and exclusion, and come together to address shared concerns about climate impacts in their communities. Some participants who start out with attitudes of anthropogenic climate change denial have shifted to identifying concerns which they would like to see addressed by local officials.

The partys progress is huge, when you apply the context, Butcher said.; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;
This is an excellent first step, she continued. The first thing you have to do in achieving climate action is start talking about these problems.
To Butcher, integrating climate action into Republican politics speaks to her partys historic conservation core the GOP with a deep-seated, rural heritage, was responsible for creation of the National Park Service and the Environmental Protection Agency under former Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Richard Nixon.
I also see this as us reclaiming our heritage, she said.
But with two-thirds of Americans indicating that the government should do more on climate change a stance that Butcher observed is especially true among young people” she said Republicans need to be talking about these issues and involving the younger generation in the discussions.
The GOP has notoriously struggled with young people, she added.
% Of Scientists Agree That Humans Are Causing Global Warming Yet Belief In Climate Change Continues To Depend On Political Beliefs Above All Else
It is no secret that belief in climate change in America is strongly divided along party lines, a fact we were reminded of in last weeks Republican leadership debates. The relationship was assessed in an experiment by Dan Kahan published in Advances in Political Psychology earlier this year, which demonstrated that there exists an extremely bizarre paradox that is as mind bending as it is troubling. Believe it or not, the more Republicans know about science, the less likely they are to believe in climate change.;
The Ordinary Science Intelligence measure which runs across the bottom of the graphs above measures how likely someone is to answer tests of scientific knowledge and reasoning correctly. For example, someone with an average Ordinary Science Intelligence score has a 70% chance of giving the correct answer to the simple scientific question âelectrons are smaller than atoms â true or falseâ. Someone would have to be a full standard deviation below average to be more likely than not to get this question wrong.
As the graph above shows, a Democrat with an average level of scientific understanding has an 80% chance of believing in global warming, while the equivalent Republican has only a 20% chance. Astonishingly, this number falls even further as Republicansâ scientific literacy increases.

Neither I Nor Any Christian I Knew Really Worried About Things Like Pollution Global Warming Climate Change Or Any Of The Other Seemingly Apocalyptic Scenarios Put Forth By The Scientific Community I Thought I Had Insider Information About The End Of The World And It Had Nothing To Do With Climate Change
When it comes to Christian eschatology, there are numerous end-times scenarios embraced by evangelicals. The details may change but the main plot rarely does. In general, there are three main theories: Premillennialism, Postmillennialism, and Amillennialism. The first posits that the end of time will bring a tribulation of suffering, that Jesus will return, and that Christians will be raptured, which is when Jesus takes the faithful back up to heaven with him. Within this theory are two types: pre-tribbers and post-tribbers. Pre-tribbers believe that true Christians will be raptured first and that seven years of hellish suffering brought by the Antichrist will follow, after which Jesus will return again to rule over the earth for the remainder of the Great Tribulation and give people one more chance to reject him before destroying the world. Post-tribbers contend that Christians wont be raptured until the tribulation ends and must evangelize during this time.
Postmillennialism holds that the Second Coming of Jesus Christ will happen after a thousand years of relative peace on earth made possible by the practice of Christian ethics, at which time final judgment and the Rapture will occur and the world will end.
The fourth angel poured out his bowl upon the sun, and it was given to it to scorch men with fire. Men were scorched with fierce heat; and they blasphemed the name of God who has the power over these plagues, and they did not repent so as to give Him glory.
A Majority Of Republicans Say They Support Policies To Mitigate Climate Change

A majority of Republicans in almost every congressional district support regulating carbon dioxide as a pollutant, even when they dont believe those emissions are causing climate change.
That may seem like a paradox, but theres a long history of support among people of all partisan backgrounds for regulating pollution basic things like clean water and clean air, Professor Egan said. To the extent global warming is framed that way, it raises support for policy interventions more than the abstract concept of climate change.
Despite this majority support, Scott Pruitt, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency, has worked to repeal Obama-era policies regulating power plant emissions. He has also raised questions over whether his agency should be regulating greenhouse gases at all.
Bob Inglis, a former Republican congressman from South Carolina who is working to get others in his party to accept climate change, said that Republicans are often willing to embrace solutions, even if they say they dont believe in climate change.
It doesnt help to point the finger at conservatives and ask, Do you believe? he said. By showing me a solution that fits with my values, Ive got a way to accept the existence of the problem.

Climate views at the local level tend to reflect where liberal and moderate Republicans live compared to conservative Republicans, said Patrick J. Egan, a professor of politics and public policy at New York University. So its no surprise that Republicans in major cities like Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco and New York are most likely to say climate change is happening.
But, there are also tantalizing hints that geographic vulnerability to climate change may affect opinion, Professor Egan said.
For example, in south Florida, an area vulnerable to sea level rise and increased risk of extreme weather, an estimated 56 percent of Republicans agree that climate change is happening. A majority of Republicans in both Alaska and Hawaii say the same.
Nearly Nine In 10 Foresee Global Warming Effects Eventually Occurring
Why Climate Change Denial Still Exists In The U.S.
In addition to the 59% of Americans who believe the effects of global warming have already begun, another 10% predict they will start happening within a few years or in their own lifetime. A further 19% foresee the effects affecting future generations, bringing the total who believe global warming will eventually affect humans to 88%. Most Americans across all demographic groups expect this, including large majorities of Republicans and independents , and nearly all Democrats .
Still, there is variation across groups in the belief that the effects of global warming have already begun, a view that may be more relevant to the propensity for people to be politically active or factor it into their voting. Democrats , adults aged 18 to 34 , college graduates , non-White Americans and women are significantly more likely than their counterparts to say the effects have begun.

The climate change denial movement is part and parcel of this larger corporate effort to hinder regulations.14

On Why The Republican Party Has Become Opposed To Taking Action On Climate Change
Why has the Republican Party shifted? I have one answer for you: Money. They have been bought off by the fossil fuel industry. If its a congressman from Virginia, or Mitch McConnell from Kentucky where they have the coal or some of the oil and fracking interest theres a very clear correlation. Theres a reason there’s the phrase follow the money. Because if you do, you will see that the voting correlates with those major contributors to the Republican party, and most of them happen to be in the fossil fuel regions of our country.
Responding To Climate Denial
An Irish Times article notes that climate denial “is not simply overcome by reasoned argument”, because it is not a rational response. Attempting to overcome denial using techniques of persuasive argument, such as supplying a missing piece of information, or providing general scientific education may be ineffective. A person who is in denial about climate is most likely taking a position based on their feelings, especially their feelings about things they fear.
Lewandowsky has stated that “It is pretty clear that fear of the solutions drives much opposition to the science.”
It can be useful to respond to emotions, including with the statement “It can be painful to realise that our own lifestyles are responsible”, in order to help move “from denial to acceptance to constructive action.”

I think its been used to unfortunately introduce climate hysteria or climate confusion. I think the term is used in such a way to confuse the public that the sky is falling in, he said.;
Of course, theres something a little ridiculous about parsing statements from oil and gas trade groups at a time when Australia and the Amazon are burning. Theres a kind of recurrent amnesia that paints climate change as a perennially new problem, an issue that is just reaching critical mass of awareness.;
Emotional And Psychological Aspects
Florida State Senator Tom Lee has described the emotional impact and reactions of individuals to climate change. Lee says, “If these predictions do bear out,;that it’s just economically daunting. I mean, you have to be the Grim Reaper of reality in a world that isn’t real fond of the Grim Reaper. That’s why I use the term emotionally shut down, because I think you lose people at hello a lot of times in the Republican conversation over this.” Emotional reactions to climate change may include guilt, fear, anger, and apathy. Psychology Today, in an article titled “The Existential Dread of Climate Change, has suggested that “despair about our changing climate may get in the way of fixing it.” The American Psychological Association has urged psychologists and other social scientists to work on psychological barriers to taking action on climate change.

Dunkirk(2017) movie review
Rating: 9/10
I would’ve given it a 10/10 but i’ve decided that i’ll only give it to the absolute best movies i’ve ever seen and unfortunately this isn’t the case BUT it did come very VERY close. This was an brilliant film that did justice to the immense tragedy that happened at Dunkirk.
things i liked about this film:
- it showed reality of the war- it was messy, confusing, you didn’t know who was who and you can sense the tension coming from the screen. this movie in my opinion really captured the essence of war with its frantic plot and fast pace.
-the 3 separate plots that join together- i loved this way of ‘’story telling’’ because it gave us a way of seeing it all. First we have the mole on which the plot begins a week before it all comes down together. It shows us the constant bombing and its the center of the war. We also can see the generals talking here so i would say that this provides us with the higher-ups POV. Secondly we have the sea, there plot begins a day before the end. Here we can see the point of view of civilians and also of a frightened soldier desperate to never come back to war. The third is the air and it starts out only an hour before end. Here we can see the point of view of three soldiers desperate to help as much as they can. basically i found the ability to see all these sides of the story brilliant and thrilling.
-there is no traditional hero- nothing was black and white, everyone showed fear. we get to see the natural instinct for preservation kick in and how it brought out the best and worst in some people. there was fear and madness not just pure heroism like its mostly shown in films. nobody fights for somebody elses cause but at that moment when death threatens them they fight to survive and either cower or show small acts of sacrifice or bravery.
-diversity between characters and yet lack of character development- first of all i dont mean diversity in the matter of race just between their personalities and reactions to the situations. we see all the types of possible archetypes for that situation and everyone has a such distinct personality ( like all real people have) and yet there is almost none character development because it shows that reality of war. we dont have time for long backstories or such and everything is a blur but since the situation at hand is so severe we cn get the taste of each characters true colours thatwe dont even need that much of a traditional character development
-generally beautiful scenes- not much to say about this, just that the shots were stunning and the color palette was amazing especially the contrast between the blue and that rose orange/ sunset colour
PSA: something that a lot of people seem to mind is that the movie was confusing but i think thats what depicted that reality of war the best ( as i said in things that i liked). besides this is a christopher nolan movie confusion is his trademark.
things i didn’t like ( honestly just nitpicks and my personal preferences):
- it should’ve been longer so we got an even better feel of the story
-i think it should’ve shown more death because most of the characters survive and showing a group in which everybody died would maybe bring us closer to realising what a huge tragedy it was.
in conclusion this was a very beautiful film which i deem to be a must watch of this summer and thats all i have to say about dunkirk :)

Inside a Texas Building Where the Government Is Holding Immigrant Children
By Isaac CHOTINER | Published June 22, 2019 | The New Yorker | Posted June 24, 2019 |
HUNDREDS of immigrant children who have been separated from their parents or family members are being held in dirty, neglectful, and dangerous conditions at Border Patrol facilities in Texas. This week, a team of lawyers interviewed more than fifty children at one of those facilities, in Clint, Texas, in order to monitor government compliance with the Flores settlement, which mandates that children must be held in safe and sanitary conditions and moved out of Border Patrol custody without unnecessary delays. The conditions the lawyers found were shocking: flu and lice outbreaks were going untreated, and children were filthy, sleeping on cold floors, and taking care of one another because of the lack of attention from guards. Some of them had been in the facility for weeks.
To discuss what the attorneys saw and heard, I spoke by phone with one of them, Warren Binford, a law professor at Willamette University and the director of its clinical-law program. She told me that, although Flores is an active court case, some of the lawyers were so disturbed by what they saw that they decided to talk to the media. We discussed the daily lives of the children in custody, the role that the guards are playing at the facility, and what should be done to unite many of the kids with their parents. Our conversation has been edited for length and clarity.
How many lawyers were in your party? And can you describe what happened when you arrived?
We had approximately ten lawyers, doctors, and interpreters in El Paso this past week. We did not plan to go to the Clint Facility, because it’s not a facility that historically receives children. It wasn’t even on our radar. It was at a facility that historically only had a maximum occupancy of a hundred and four, and it was an adult facility. So we were not expecting to go there, and then we saw the report, last week, that it appeared that children were being sent to Clint, so we decided to put four teams over there. The teams are one to two attorneys, or an attorney and an interpreter. The idea is that we would be interviewing one child at a time or one sibling group at a time.
Read: Masha Gessen writes on the unimaginable reality of America’s “concentration camps.”
How many interviews do you do in a day?
We do a screening interview first to see if the child’s most basic needs are being met. Is it warm enough? Do they have a place to sleep? How long have they been there? Are they being fed? And if it sounds like the basic needs are being met, then we don’t need to interview them longer. If, when we start to interview the child, they start to tell us things like they’re sleeping on the floor, they’re sick, nobody’s taking care of them, they’re hungry, then we do a more in-depth interview. And those interviews can take two hours or even longer. So it depends on what the children tell us. So I’d say, with a team of four attorneys, if you’re interviewing several groups, which we sometimes try to do, or if you interview older children who are trying to take care of younger children, then you are interviewing, let’s say, anywhere from ten to twenty children per day.
How many kids are at the facility right now, and do you have some sense of a breakdown of where they’re from?
When we arrived, on Monday, there were approximately three hundred and fifty children there. They were constantly receiving children, and they’re constantly picking up children and transferring them over to an O.R.R. [Office of Refugee Resettlement] site. So the number is fluid. We were so shocked by the number of children who were there, because it’s a facility that only has capacity for a hundred and four. And we were told that they had recently expanded the facility, but they did not give us a tour of it, and we legally don’t have the right to tour the facility.
We drove around afterward, and we discovered that there was a giant warehouse that they had put on the site. And it appears that that one warehouse has allegedly increased their capacity by an additional five hundred kids. When we talked to Border Patrol agents later that week, they confirmed that is the alleged expansion, and when we talked to children, one of the children described as many as three hundred children being in that room, in that warehouse, basically, at one point when he first arrived. There were no windows.
And so what we did then was we looked at the ages of the children, and we were shocked by just how many young children there were. There were over a hundred young children when we first arrived. And there were child-mothers who were also there, and so we started to pull the child-mothers and their babies, we started to make sure their needs were being met. We started to pull the youngest children to see who was taking care of them.
And then we started to pull the children who had been there the longest to find out just how long children are being kept there. Children described to us that they’ve been there for three weeks or longer. And so, immediately from that population thatwe were trying to triage, they were filthy dirty, there was mucus on their shirts, the shirts were dirty. We saw breast milk on the shirts. There was food on the shirts, and the pants as well. They told us that they were hungry. They told us that some of them had not showered or had not showered until the day or two days before we arrived. Many of them described that they only brushed their teeth once. This facility knew last week that we were coming. The government knew three weeks ago that we were coming.
So, in any event, the children told us that nobody’s taking care of them, so that basically the older children are trying to take care of the younger children. The guards are asking the younger children or the older children, “Who wants to take care of this little boy? Who wants to take of this little girl?” and they’ll bring in a two-year-old, a three-year-old, a four-year-old. And then the littlest kids are expected to be taken care of by the older kids, but then some of the oldest children lose interest in it, and little children get handed off to other children. And sometimes we hear about the littlest children being alone by themselves on the floor.
Many of the children reported sleeping on the concrete floor. They are being given army blankets, those wool-type blankets that are really harsh. Most of the children said they’re being given two blankets, one to put beneath them on the floor. Some of the children are describing just being given one blanket and having to decide whether to put it under them or over them, because there is air-conditioning at this facility. And so they’re having to make a choice about, Do I try to protect myself from the cement, or do I try to keep warm?
We weren’t originally planning to be there on Thursday, but one of the reasons why we came back for a fourth day is that some of the children, on Wednesday, told us that there was a lice infestation, as well as an influenza outbreak, at that facility, and so a number of the children are being taken into isolation rooms, quarantine areas where there’s nobody with them except for other sick children.
There was one child-mother who took her baby in there, because the baby got the flu. And then the mother, because she was in there caring for the child, got the flu as well. And so then she was there for a week, and they took the baby out and gave the baby to an unrelated child to try to take care of the child-mother’s baby. Sorry, I was trying to remember where I was going with that.
It’s fine.
Oh, I know what I wanted to tell you. This is important. So, on Wednesday, we received reports from children of a lice outbreak in one of the cells where there were about twenty-five children, and what they told us is that six of the children were found to have lice. And so they were given a lice shampoo, and the other children were given two combs and told to share those two combs, two lice combs, and brush their hair with the same combs, which is something you never do with a lice outbreak. And then what happened was one of the combs was lost, and Border Patrol agents got so mad that they took away the children’s blankets and mats. They weren’t allowed to sleep on the beds, and they had to sleep on the floor on Wednesday night as punishment for losing the comb. So you had a whole cell full of kids who had beds and mats at one point, not for everybody but for most of them, who were forced to sleep on the cement.
Where are these kids from, and where are most of their parents in most cases?
Almost every child that we interviewed had a parent or relative in the United States. Many of them had parents in the United States and were coming here to be with their parents. Some of the children that we interviewed had been separated from their parents. Most of them were separated from other adult relatives. Almost all the children came across with an adult family member and were separated from them by the Border Patrol. Some of them were separated from their parents themselves; other times it was a grandmother or aunt or an older sibling. We don’t know where the parents are being kept.
They are primarily from Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras. There are a few from Ecuador, one from Peru.
What is the attitude of the guards to your team?
They are on our side. Multiple guards told us while we were there that they are on our side and they want us to be successful, because the children don’t belong there, and the children need to be picked up and put in appropriate places for children. They want us to be successful.
So things like the comb and the punishment, that’s a rare story? Most of the guards care about the welfare of the kids to some extent?
I’m not going to say that most of the guards care about the kids, because we didn’t talk to most of the guards, but I do believe in the inherent goodness of people. And when I’ve talked to guards, they seemed caring, and they had guards who, when the children were there for these very lengthy interviews, would bring the children lunches in the conference room. They’re terrible lunches. That’s how some of the guards are, but the fact is that some of the guards are bad people, and there’s no question about it.
There are some other stories that we’ve heard from the children, such as that one of the guards has an older child, who’s seventeen, serve as the unofficial guard inside the room. So he tells the kids what to do, and he tries to keep the room neat and straighten up the mattresses and everything. Now, the guards reward him with extra food, and when a seven-year-old saw that this older boy was getting extra food by being helpful, he asked if he could help clean up the room and keep it neat so that he, too, could get extra food. And the seventeen-year-old chastised him for this, and then when an older sibling tried to stand up for his little brother, the guard intervened and reprimanded both the little boy and his older brother.
And so you’ve got a guard who is manipulating these kids, very similar to what we heard about in the concentration camps. I’m not going and calling these concentration camps, although I know that some people do.
I am curious, at just a human level, about you being at these camps this week, while much of the country, or a bunch of politicians, seemed outraged most of all by the fact that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez used the phrase “concentration camp.”
Well, we’re not watching the news. I saw a tweet. The thing is that all of our capacity is taken up. We’re waking up at six o’clock in the morning, and we’re on the road shortly after seven to go to our different sites and meet with these kids. And we’re meeting with them until five o’clock, sometimes—it didn’t happen this week, but at other site visits we’re staying until eight o’clock because there are so many kids to interview. And then what happens is we go back and we debrief. We did not eat until eleven o’clock on Wednesday night, and then we’re going to bed, waking up a few hours later and doing it all over again. There’s no capacity for processing what’s going on in the real world. It is all about these kids and the horrific conditions they’re in.
Was there anything that you think was specifically illegal?
I just got back from this facility where laws were being broken right and left. There is a judgment in this case that says that children are supposed to be treated a certain way when they are in government custody. All of these children are in government custody, and those very basic standards are being violated.
For example, in Flores, which is the class-action suit that governs the standards for the care of these children that are in U.S. custody, it clearly says that children are supposed to be kept in safe and sanitary conditions. And there is nothing sanitary about the conditions they are in. And they are not safe, because they are getting sick, and they are not being adequately supervised by the Border Patrol officers. This is a violation of the case law. In addition to that, these children are not supposed to be in a Border Patrol facility any longer than they absolutely have to, and in no event are they supposed to be there for more than seventy-two hours. And many of them were there for three and a half weeks.
And, in addition to that, they are not supposed to be breaking up families. In the Ms. L case that was brought last year, when children were being routinely separated by their parents, that judge ruled that these children need to be kept with their parents, that family integrity is a constitutional right and is being violated. There were children at this facility who came across with parents and were separated from parents. There were other children at the facility who came across with other adult family members. We met almost no children who came across unaccompanied. The United States is taking children away from their family unit and reclassifying them as unaccompanied children. But they were not unaccompanied children. And some of them were separated from their parents.
Do you have some hope or sense that courts will step in promptly?
That is the hope. I will be honest with you: I am not authorized to talk about the Flores case. I am not one of the attorneys litigating that case. I am there as an expert monitoring compliance. It is a very active case, and the lead attorneys in that case are very concerned about what we found on the site visit. Even the little things—when they are transporting the babies, transporting the toddlers and the preschoolers, they are not putting them in infant seats or booster seats, and they are driving along Texas highways, all of which require children to be properly placed in the vehicle. It is so frustrating to hear the current Administration talking about the rule of law when they flout the rule of law right and left.
I know you have been doing this for about three years. For people you know who have been doing it longer, to what degree is this the worst they’ve ever seen, and to what degree is this an aspect of our immigration policy that has been going on for a really long time, and there is just much more of a spotlight on it now?
That’s a very good question. Things have always been horrendous in Border Patrol facilities, especially for children. That’s why Flores requires that the children be moved out of there as expeditiously as possible. So we’ve always been concerned about the conditions in Border Patrol facilities. What we’re concerned about now is the number of children who are there, the young ages of the children there, and the length of time that they’re being left there.
Almost all of these children have family members, including parents, in the United States, who are able to and want to take care of their children. All we need to do is to get these children to their families, and we know that almost all of them will be well cared for, and it will cost the U.S. taxpayer no money to care for these children, because they will be cared for by their parents.
Now, when I say that—of course there are certain inherent costs in running a society that will be incurred, but as far as direct care, at the facilities that we have the numbers for, such as the large facilities like Homestead, it costs seven hundred and seventy-five dollars a day to care for these kids. There is no reason for the American taxpayer to have to pay seven hundred and seventy-five dollars a day to care for children who have families who love them, and are here in the United States, and want to take care of them. There are multiple kids that we could put on a plane this week to be with their parents in the United States. Many of them have never spoken with their parents since they got there.

2019 Lexus ES: First Drive – Cars.com
youtube
Now when Lexus launched in 1989 it only had two models in this lineup and one ofthem was the ES, so the ES has a long history with this company and thebrand-new redesigned 2019 ES is actually the seventh generation of the car and ithas been changed inside and out with a new platform new powertrains and updatedstyling. Now the ES shares the most in common with the Toyota Avalon which wasalso redesigned for 2019 and the two share more than a passing resemblance. They have the same wheelbase, the same overall length and mechanicallyidentical power trains just with some slight tuning differences from the side. Even the two models look fairly identical but the ES does have a fewstyling cues that let you know that it’s a Lexus starting with the grille. Nowmost versions of the ES will come with this spindle grille with verticallyoriented slats. If you opt for an F Sport model you will get a more aggressiveoverall look but also this 3D kind of chainmail mesh grille that looks muchmore aggressive. Now the ES will be offered in gas and hybrid versions andthe gas version of the car will get a 3. 5 liter V6 that makes just over 300horsepower. Now the car that we’re here with is the hybrid and that featureswhat Lexus is calling a fourth generation hybrid system. It has a totalsystem output of 215 horsepower and it’s fuel economy matches the Avalon’s at 44mpg combined. Now acceleration from the gas engine is adequate, I wouldn’t saythat is mind blowing and that actually makes me prefer the hybrid versionbecause you get that big advantage in fuel economy. Now there is one catch toogoing for the ES and that is it’s gonna be front-wheel drive only. Pretty muchall the other competitors offer some sort of all-wheel drive so it’s weirdthat Lexus wouldn’t choose to put some kind of system in the ES and it makes itstick out for the wrong reasons. Now the Lexus ES also benefits from the moveto Toyota’s global architecture, much like the Camry and the Avalon did overthe last couple years. The new platform means that the ES rides better, is lesssloppy in turns and is just overall a better driving experience. Lexus has alsoincreased stability by adding a v-shaped brace right behind the rear seat and itdoes help calm down the rear a little bit especially under braking but whatthat does mean is that you can’t fold down the back seat. There is a smallpass-through for longer cargo but it’s not very big, I wouldn’t be able to fit asnowboard through there so for those of you who like winter sportsyou might have to get a roof rack or something like that for a longer cargo. Like I mentioned before, power from the two powertrains is what I would calladequate. I’m driving the hybrid right now and while it’s not fast, it’s enoughpower for passing and it’s a smooth powertrain that transitions veryseamlessly between gas and electric modes. Now the Lexus ES also benefitsfrom a very quiet cabin and you can make it even quieter still by opting for anultra luxurious package which comes with 19-inch wheels that are designed to bequieter than other wheels. They’ve cut a channel out of the wheel and they saythat helps to mitigate some of the road vibrations and noise and when I drove avehicle with those wheels equipped it was noticeably quieter than the car thatwe drove this morning. Now the 2019 ES also introduces the F Sport version ofthe car and what that has is more aggressive styling stiffer anti-roll barin the front and its own Sport Plus drive mode it also comes with anadaptive variable suspension that Lexus says can firm up the ride to make itmore dynamic in turns. I didn’t necessarily find this to be true I thought thatthe F Sport actually drove pretty similar to the non F Sport models whichmeans that what you’re getting with the F Sport is mostly an appearance packagealong with some sports seats that do have nice bolstering but don’t expectthe F Sport to suddenly become a sports sedan. The ES is pretty quiet andcomfortable most of the time but there is one situation in which that getsbroken up and that’s when you really lean into the throttle on the hybridversion. Now the hybrid models actually come with some specialized sounddeadening which are meant to filter out the higher pitched noises that you getfrom the electric drivetrain however that sound deadening doesn’t do much forthe four-cylinder drone that you get when you really lean into the car likethis. Another thing that’s much improved onthe ES is this new interior and that’s both from materials and a stylingperspective. Now the cabin materials are taking a big leap forward. I would saythis actually feels like a bonafide luxury interior now whereas the previousES felt upmarket but not quite luxurious. The model that we’re sitting in alsocomes with be available twelve point three inch screen which is highresolution and high up on the dash so it’s easy for you to see while driving. Now all of these things on the ES are big improvements over the old model butthere is one key way in which the new ES hasn’t taken a step forward and thatwould be the multimedia system. Now our biggest gripe with the multimedia systemis not actually the screen itself it comes with how you interact with it andthat is through what Lexus calls a remote touch interface and thatbasically means you use a glorified touchpad here in the center console tonavigate the menus and submenus found on the screen. Now using a touchpad and acursor is fine if you’re on your laptop in a coffee shop but not so much ifyou’re driving and you have kids in the back and you have traffic and carsmoving around you, it’s just a lot to take in if you’re driving and it’spretty much impossible to use without looking down at the screen. Lexus did addApple CarPlay on Amazon Alexa integration to the ES however there arecaches to both of those at launch. The car is gonna come out in September butit looks like Apple CarPlay won’t be standard on the car until after October. You can get it on ES models with navigation but if you don’t wantnavigation you won’t be able to get Apple CarPlay until you buy a car thatwas built after October 1st. On the Alexa side, the Amazon app that’srequired by Lexus to use the full Alexa functionality in the car won’t becertified on the App Store until November. However it will be availablefor those who have Android phones so while you might not have Android Autoyou will get to enjoy full Amazon Alexa integration before you’re friends withiPhones. Now this pre-production model that we’re in actually does come withApple CarPlay and we had a chance to play with the system and we think thatit works quite well here. The screen is very wide and Apple CarPlay is actuallyable to fill the whole thing so you get more icons than you do normally on thehome page and we think that it’s actually a good direction for Lexus totake in the future with this system if they want to stick with a touchpadbecause Apple CarPlay uses large icons that are easy to see while the Lexusmenus are smaller and you have to go through more steps to find what you want. Now there’s no question that the 2019 Lexus ES is a massive improvement overthe 2018 version of the car. I think that it’s more stylish, I think that it drivesbetter and I think that the interior is more luxurious. It also has a massivebackseat that can fit two adults comfortably over long voyages and thismakes the ES a great road trip car, much like the 2019 Avalon. Now thecaveat is you’re stuck with that multimedia system. And this is somethingthat we could say about most Lexus products is that without that multimediasystem they would actually be a more compelling buy. For me is it adeal-breaker? It just might be in this car because everything else seems sogood that that sticks out like a sore thumb. Now we’re still waiting onofficial pricing figures for the 2019 ES. All that we can tell you is that itwill start at around $39,000 with hybrid modelscommanding a $3,000 premium on top of the gas versions. Official pricing should come closer the cars on sale date in fall of 2018.
