A thing i have noticed that i find interesting about how people claim you are a chaser and all that, is that it seems to have gotten even more prevalent after you started drawing your transmasc characters fat. Not to say it wasnt a problem before, but i have noticed it way more after you made some characters fat. Interesting how that happens...

Also i want to say that i LOVE how much you have improved and i think it's really cool to see how your style has changed, and i think it's fun to see how your art journey goes forward in the future.

So, to answer your question, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the Indigenous people to what the world calls "Australia". And we are Black people. We are Black people and were racialised as Black Indigenous people when British and European people colonised the land over 200 years ago. Aboriginal people were called Black throughout Australias white colonial history and so we also call ourselves Black.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country have been subjected to anti-Black violence and genocidal policies that include but aren't limited to slavery, deaths in custody, segregation, and apartheid. Not to mention forced child removal and assimilation policies intended to "breed the Black out" of our culture.

But we're still here! Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the oldest continuously practising culture in the world. Recent archaeological discoveries show Aboriginal people were baking bread even before the ancient Egyptians and Greeks. As a community, we've had our own Black power movements, music movements, and art movements too.

I'm generalising a lot because Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are very diverse. We've got over 400 languages and nations, each with its own cultural rules. While many of us have lost our language and culture because of colonisation, there are many who haven't and many working to restore and preserve it.

One thing I will make very clear is that all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples refer to ourselves as Black (sometimes without the C) regardless of what we look like. There are many Aboriginal people, like myself, who are pale skinned and still call ourselves Black and are accepted as such. This is because we do NOT adhere to blood quantum that colonisers try to put on us. Our connection to Blackness is about our connection to family and community, it is not *only* about how we look.

Okay, here's a fun plot! Hannibal x reader who has never travelled in a day of her life. Like all she's ever done is road trips and such. So when he wants to make plans to visit Italy again (I can imagine he likes revisiting his roots for reflection and just enjoying the art), it's a really daunting thing for her. Alternatively, he books the flight without telling her, maybe he knows about her lack of experience, maybe he does not, wink wink. And he can get that ego boost of helping a sweet S/O on her first trip.

Bonus points of the reader is scared of flying AHAHAHHAH

You loved Hannibal. You really did. But when he slid the sleek black folder across the breakfast table, his words silky and precise, you felt your stomach plummet as though you were already 30,000 feet in the air.

"I’ve taken the liberty of arranging a short reprieve in Florence for us," he said, his dark eyes locking onto yours with the satisfaction of a man who had just executed a perfect plan.

You blinked down at the itinerary, your pulse quickening as the words “First Class – Florence” stared back at you. First class or not, this was a flight. An international flight. Your palms began to sweat.

“Hannibal…” you started, unsure how to voice the jumble of fear and hesitation swirling in your mind. “I—I’ve never flown before. I’ve never even been out of the country.”

His brow quirked, the faintest sign of surprise in his otherwise serene expression. “Is that so?” His voice was laced with intrigue, but there was no mockery, no condescension.

You nodded, looking down at your lap. “I’ve only ever done road trips. The thought of flying… it’s just…” You trailed off, hoping he’d understand without needing further explanation.

He rose from his chair, moving to your side with a grace that only Hannibal could manage. His hand settled lightly on your shoulder, his touch as reassuring as it was firm. “My dear, it seems I shall have the distinct privilege of introducing you to the skies. Fear is natural, but you needn’t face it alone.”

His words were warm, soothing. But as much as you trusted him, the idea of hurtling through the air in a metal tube still made your chest tighten.

When the day arrived, you were a bundle of nerves. Hannibal, ever the epitome of calm, had everything prepared. He handled the check-in process with ease, and before you knew it, you were settled into the plush first-class seat, the hum of the engines already making your pulse race.

“I’ve taken the liberty of requesting chamomile tea for you,” Hannibal said, handing you a steaming cup. “It’s quite effective in soothing the nerves.”

You took it with a grateful, albeit shaky, smile. He leaned in closer, his voice low and intimate. “Remember, this is merely the beginning of a journey. Allow yourself to savor the experience. Focus on the discovery, not the apprehension.”

You nodded, clutching the tea like a lifeline. But as the engines roared to life and the plane began to ascend, panic bubbled in your chest. Your hand gripped the armrest until Hannibal’s found it, his fingers curling around yours with steady reassurance.

“Breathe,” he murmured, his thumb brushing against your knuckles. “You are safe.”

You focused on his voice, his presence anchoring you as the plane leveled out. Slowly, the tightness in your chest eased, and you dared to look out the window. The sight of clouds stretching endlessly across the sky was oddly calming.

“You’re doing beautifully,” Hannibal said, his tone tinged with pride.

The first glimpse of Florence took your breath away. Hannibal guided you through the city with the ease of someone deeply familiar with its every corner. He pointed out hidden frescoes and whispered stories of the Medici family as you wandered through cobblestone streets.

At the Uffizi Gallery, he lingered beside Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus, his gaze reverent. “Do you see how her form embodies both vulnerability and power?” he asked, his hand lightly brushing your back. "She's much like you."

You nodded, the awe in your chest mirrored in his. For the first time, you understood why he loved this city.

As the days passed, your fear of flying became a distant memory, replaced by the wonder of experiencing a world so different from your own. Hannibal reveled in your transformation, his pride evident in the small smiles he gave when you tried a new dish or eagerly asked him about a piece of art.

On your final evening, you turned to him as the sun set over the Arno River, painting the city in gold. “Thank you,” you said softly. “For everything. For bringing me here. For being patient with me.”

His gaze softened, and he took your hand in his. “It is I who should thank you, my dear. It is a rare gift to guide someone through their first steps into a larger world. And I am honoured to be the one by your side.”

I made a quick timelapse of one of my old-ish work for you, under the cut I'll go into more details about the process! I hope it'll be of use to you, but don't expect some crazy insights, I'm a messy artist ahjkakhj

So, step one! When the sketch is clean enough for me, I go in with plain colours to block out objects that I'll be refining on separate layers later. At the same time it helps me take a step back from details and break down the image into bigger, simpler shapes, so it's easier to find better composition and proportions.

Step two (actual colouring) Usually my brain shuts down on me on that part too, Anon… Basically I use a very limited palette at the start and gradually build up more hues and contrasts as I go. Sometimes I do a gray scale drawing first to get my values right, but this one is simple and was more of a vent&relax piece for me so there is none of that haha Also, since I tend to work on as little layers as possible and merge sketch layer and colour layer together at literally the first opportunity I get, most of the times I have a copy of my sketch saved on a separate hidden layer in case I overdo the painting part and need some roughness back.

Step three, Details! And when I say details I mean

There is simply something magical in squiggly lines and dots… I can never fight them…

There is not much of advise I can really give you here, just do what feels right to you, what looks beautiful to you. Make your art finished in the way you see it finished, take another step back and ask yourself "what's missing? what feels undone? empty?". Combine styles, find new patterns and brushes, most importantly HAVE FUN!!!

Sooner or later you'll find the perfect algorithm for painting and drawing, only to 5, 20, 50 works down the line realize that's something in your own style doesn't sit right with you anymore and feels rather routinish and start that journey anew.

Never stop your searching, chase after your own definition of beauty because without you there will be nobody to show it to others.

I'm gonna start with the scent thing- generally I think he enjoys sweet, fresh smells. Loves when you're straight out of the shower, will literally inhale your clean hair and rub against you to share the scent of himself with you.

On the other hand, I think the smell of incense is so nostalgic for him and brings him some peace. The smell of an old church, the comforting spicy smell of frankincense, cinnamon, rosemary. Those sort of warm scents that help him clear his head to pray before bed. The smell of old books too, brings him comfort.

now some fun little thoughts (:<

♡I think Kurt appreciates art very much, specifically the baroque era, and some post impressionist/expressionist art. He likes to feel things while he examines them. I think in particular he'd enjoy Klimts 'The Kiss' for it's vibrancy and romance, and Van Goghs 'Starry Night'. Obviously he's into religious art, it makes him emotional, but I also think he likes hopeful art, things that show the best parts of life. Its all part of his journey to be more grateful.

♡I think he's such a hopeless romantic loverboy, not in the way Gambit is with the flirting and the flaunting, but in an acts of service way. He's humble in the way he loves you, totally devoted and would do anything for you. You make him feel like he's enough and he can only hope to reciprocate.

♡Like I said, he's an acts of service sort of man. He'll do anything to lessen your burdens, help you handle tasks, draw you a bath after a long day, massage your shoulders while you talk about all the trouble the students gave you that day.

♡It translates to your sex life, he's a complete giver. Anything you want you can have, whenever you want it.

2Q about Prowl and Jazz.

1Q, how are transformers born in your au? Does it have something to do with their Sparks (merging and creating a new life form)? Or is it more physically intimate? (No need to describe if it is intimate)

2Q, since Prowl was built and came online, he didn't have parents like Jazz did, correct? Who did Prowl consider as parents or family other than Jazz.

( my tf au there are several other ways that are complicated and sometimes brutal but we aren’t talking about that rn.)

1) For Forte-verse it’s simpler, there are two ways to get Sparklings, spark merging and through a allspark well. Spark merging is a form of physical intimacy. Interfacing is the cybertronian equivalent to.. well you know. ( honestly sex isn’t important to the shenanigans of forte-verse, if I do end up bringing it up it’s probably to make crude jokes.) not only does merging sometimes result in a sparkling but also two bots being Sparkmates. Interfacing isn’t required to have a sparkling but couples will do it while spark merging cause, hey why not.

Allspark Wells will create sparks that will eventually form into newsparks who will then make the journey out of the well and into cybertronian society, finding their own clan, guardians and families. That’s how it used to work at least. As cybertronians evolved they found more efficient methods of making bots for specific purposes. Companies would take ownership of wells and harvest newly made sparks. Then they could be put into development chambers to faster form into new sparks, the companies could manufacture their looks and upload what they are meant to do right out of the chamber. ( I liked this concept so much that it also applies in my other au but I go more into all that junk there too.) Of course they still need to develop on their own a bit into fully fledged adults and some skills would still need to be taught.

2) You are correct, Prowl has no parents. Unfortunately how he was made didn’t make it easy to find any either. It’s normal for new sparks to imprint and want to be close with older cybertronians, however the supervisors that would watch Prowl’s group were very mean and aggressive, they had no interest whatsoever in caring for new sparks, only training them because it was only their job. This would lead Prowl to trying to work extra hard to impress the older bots (never worked.) Prowl never got to view anyone as a parental guardian.

However Prowl did get very close to a couple of bots from his line. Smokescreen and Bluestreak are like family to him, they all grew up together. Smoky acts as the older brother type, though he doesn’t watch Prowl and Blue like a hawk like he used to, Smoky is much more comfortable now letting Prowl take the lead. He’s a big laid back teddy bear but has mastered to art of intimidation, all Praxins have.

( Fun fact: Prowl’s line are referred to as Praxins because the company they from is called Praxus.) Blue is the baby sister for sure, she’s a grumpy bug eyed weirdo but she’s just paranoid. She wants to make sure her family is being treated right, Blue can tell when they are getting taken advantage of. Even tho she is grumpy and kind of gloomy she isn’t super serious like Prowl and is a bit of a social butterfly.

Prowl is pretty independent and a loner but when Blue and Smoky are around he can’t help but hover and fuss over the two.

It's officially New years for me here! I am not the best at words, but I'm thankful for the support that I've received for the short amount of time that I've started posting art more often.

What started off as me wanting to just Archive some art I'm proud of snowballed to so many memories that I'll look back fondly to, so many silly ideas that breached containment that I remember seeing people do (Like the draw your oc reacting to their fave card that me and addie just talked about as a joke, and the Shroompocalypse that was just meant to be an Jade stealing people's yume joke)

Hi! Joining on the previous Anon to say that the reverse Werewolf/Vampire au is REALLY clicking with me.

Vi is already a character living unambiguously as herself, so being a vampire actively living life, fighting for food where she can get it, and Caitlyn, a character who grew up in a restricting environment as someone with so much life in her that she can't let out without being seen as a beast, finally finding the ability to be open and "free" with someone as unambiguously free as Vi, and giving her what she's been fighting for her whole life, while getting from Vi what she needs, aka a person who Gets It and doesn't judge Caitlyn for showing that side of herself), is mwah, perfect and I love how it delves into characterisation of them that you don't see in the "traditional" Caitvi werewolf/vampire au.

There they more so play into the character's vibes, but this au I feel like actually delves moreso into the characterisation.

Also consuming stuff from this au is like self indulgent stuff for me. It's my bed time story and whenever I see new stuff from it I kick my feet and giggle. And I just generally love your art style! Might try to change my own (been considering it for a while) and lean into your general direction, it's really inspiring and fun to look at. You get Vi and Cait so right in my opinion, it's ridiculous

AUGH YOU GET IT!!!! it's difficult for me to explain my thoughts on how this au would work compared to the "regular" version but i'm glad you got those thoughts exactly :'D

honestly, this au's intention was to just see how it'd work if the usual roles they were given was flipped and not much else thought LOL. so my doodles are mostly just "arcane but these two are a vampire/ werewolf and not the way everyone else sees them as" instead of something w/ a completely different universe/ story (w/ a few personal HCs but still… maybe i'll make something w/ more substance someday?). i just kinda hope thoughts like these would one day have others consider using this au as a set up for their own ideas (please show me if you do…)! and don't get me me wrong, i still love the regular vampire/ werewolf aus that people make and i also think it works in its own way, but i'm glad that me and others like the reversed au to muse over how the characterization would work alongside it and also to just to be self indulgent :')

Someone covered your eyes, appearing out of nowhere.

“you’re back early” you smiled, before the man who appeared behind you covered your eyes tighter

“You didn’t guess”

“ugh you- I mean my wonderful and amazing boyfriend, the one and only, the greatest man in Teyvat, Lyney!” You said sarcastically, Lyney chuckled as he felt you rolling your eyes.

“oh come on now! Don’t you want to see something cool?” “look Lyney- I’m- ah rosseland no go back!” you felt the cat rub against your leg, you got tickled a bit.

lyney chuckled at the sight, pressing a kiss to the back of your neck, causing you to get tickled more

“ah-lyney” you laughed “stop!!”

He chuckled before letting go of your eyes

and just like that, your canvas was gone. “hey where did you-“

when you looked back, you saw him holding a bouquet of rainbow roses. You blushed

“well I.. charlotte told me in a mission that rainbow roses signify romance and passion. And well… I got reminded of you”

“they’re fresh too! I Just picked them”

he smiled, sitting on a chair behind you and hugging you from behind.

“wait..picked them?”

“mmhm, I grew them myself.”

you were shocked, you didn’t even know that he had been growing flowers for you.

“just like my love has grown for you”

AND THAT WAS IT. That was the last straw, at this point you were a flustered mess and you didn’t know how to thank him. Let alone even look at him.

“No- no buts! I wanted to, I love you”

he smiled, holding your chin to make you face him. He laughed, “my you’re so cute like this!” “shh!!” You crossed your arms, as your lover planted a kiss on your lips.

He moved the chair next to you and with a snap, the canvas re appeared and the roses in a vase in front of it

you nod, and he lays his head on your shoulder as you start to sketch.

“your art is so pretty… I’ll never understand how you do it so well…” he mumbled as Rosseland hops into his lap. and just nuzzles against him a lot.

“I think rosseland agrees as well” he smiles. Looking up to see you for a bit

“still speechless Mon ange?” He chuckled, wrapping an arm around your waist.

Comics mini-Comints: Dungeon Meshi

reread dungeon meshi through to the end. still such a great manga. here are immediate thoughts - if I end up having time and energy I hope I can write something that goes deeper!

ironically i was only a few chapters from the end when I stopped keeping up, but I was struggling to remember all the characters and context, so reading it through in one go was definitely an ideal way to achieve maximum impact there.

ryoko kui does a very elegant job of handling a transition from 'silly antics' to 'big dramatic fantasy' while still keeping the central thematic throughline - eating and being eaten, belonging to an ecosystem, the significance of sacrificing others to achieve your own desires. a lot of setups pay off in a way that feels meticulously planned - and of course the crux of the final showdown revolves around characters attempting to eat each other, of course the big payoff is a huge feast that symbolically unites all the conflicting factions. it is maybe a bit too neat and happy for my taste, but it's undeniably tightly executed - it never loses sight of what it's about. especially compared to something like Frieren, it's an incredibly coherent serialisation, up there with e.g. Fullmetal Alchemist.

kui's art style deserves all kinds of praise - it feels effortlessly simple, but it clearly communicates all sorts of different shapes and body types and it's really fun to see her play around with remixing the different visual elements when she switches the races around. in general Laius's autistic monster loving ways clearly reflect kui's own deeply felt appreciation for all the ways people and animals live (accentuated further by all the extra sketches the scanlators tuck in). in a way you could kinda call it like Parts Unknown the fantasy manga.

the stakes of the final conflict are interesting - there is much to be said about the framing of 'desire' and its fulfilment, of this occult idea of 'the infinite'. lots you could put in relation to other manga, and also buddhism. (in particular I really want to develop a comparison to Made In Abyss, there are so many parallels, it just might be too spicy for tumblr lmao).

one thing I really like about it is how much its fantasy dungeon-exploring setting owes to D&D and other TTRPGs, rather than videogames. monster ecology has been a fascination of that game since the early days of Dragon magazine, and Kui sharply zeroes in on some of the intrinsic conflicts baked in to that fantasy milieu, notably the lifespan thing, while smartly avoiding the traps of 'evil races'. there's some really fun nods to the weirder monster manual entries. and in a story with so many characters and factions, it does a genuinely incredible job of furnishing everyone with understandable, reasonable motivations, conflicts drawn from their context just like the monsters are explained by their ecology.

and one thing that I particularly appreciate is like... how much it is able to simultaneously understand and sympathise with a character and also show us how and why they'd rub others the wrong way. it's impossible not to like our main group, they're all such charming dorks and the manga leads you along with all the crazy rpg party shit they do, but at the same time you definitely find yourself thinking 'guy's got a point' in the kabru chapters lmao. I'm projecting hard bc i don't really know a thing about ryōko kui but laius def feels like the sort of depiction of having an autism that you can only do if you've lived it.

but yeah, it's a fuzzy ending where it all turns out well. but what's the deeper thrust of it all? there's a funny moment where marcille is like 'maybe in the end our journey is about learning to accept death' and the grouchy old gnome guy completely laughs this off as naive, because death doesn't mean anything. and indeed their big plan pays off, and falin does indeed come back just fine. but still, through all of this it asks you to bite the bullet that being a living creature means eating to survive, at the cost of other creatures, with the other side being that one day you too will be eaten. in contrast to this honest way of being is the beguiling fantasy of infinity, where all your desires are immediately fulfilled - this is shown as a dangerous path of corruption that produces madness and manipulability. having limits and rubbing up against the wishes of others, or 'doing things you don't want to do' as izutsumi's arc puts it, becomes necessary for having some kind of definition as a subject. the thing that makes the demon concrete as an entity is a desire, or appetite, that can't immediately be fulfilled.

of course we can connect this to the idea of narrative conflict. a standard advice for putting together a plot is to ask what each character wants and why they can't get it. wanting something implies movement. and indeed over the course of this story, we see that while having too many desires fulfilled too readily leads to incoherence and callousness, equally a character who is left catatonic as their desires have been eaten by the demon must be reawakened to activity by finding a new desire.

it's kinda Buddhist innit. neither the opulence of the palace nor asceticism. desires are what tie you to the world. but mixed with ecology: what a creature does to find the energy to live is what defines its lifestyle, its form.

this is probably where I'd start talking about entropy gradients and shit if i wasn't typing this on a phone at 1:30am lmao.

but yeah - it's a powerful move to go from 'D&D monster recipe show sendup' to 'living with the inherently violent nature of being an organism fated to live in a finite sum game' and yet Dungeon Meshi makes it feel natural and convincing, while remaining tremendously charming and funny throughout. ryōko kui is definitely some kind of genius, and I can't wait to see what her next act is gonna be. it's all definitely making me appreciate the act of eating a lot more.

next story on my plate is probably The Flower That Bloomed Nowhere, which sounds like it will present a very gnarly thematic contrast.

Hey I love your art very much! Just wanted to ask you if you have any ressources/tutorials to recommend for learning Blender?

Hey, thanks for the kind words! Honestly most of my Blender learning has been just messing around with it and looking stuff up as I need it, but here's a couple tutorials that got me started: MortMort's "Blender Zero 2 Hero" tutorials These were very useful in understanding Blender's UI, and come with some tips for pixel art textures in Blender that will be helpful for low poly stuff specifically. Cherylynn Lima's Low Poly Modeling tutorials These use an older version of Blender, so the UI and some shortcuts will be different, but they're great for getting an understanding of the box modeling process used in low poly models. Imphenzia's Low Poly Character Modeling tutorials This is a link to the newer version of his tutorial videos, which goes over the same kinda stuff as the older ones that I used. These were particularly great for getting a quick grasp on rigging low poly characters for animation. Besides those tutorial videos, an additional resource I used was The Models Resource, which collects video game models for viewing in Blender and other 3D art applications. I used this site to study lots of low poly models from stuff like PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64 and Nintendo DS games. I also participated in challenges like #256FES very early on, because I strongly believe that having limitations or challenge goals makes it much easier to learn how a program works. Especially limitations (like 256FES' "use only 256 tris and a 256x256 texture") really force you to learn and puzzle solve to get the most out of your model. My last tip would be: if making your own art is the ultimate goal, then don't feel like you have to learn everything about a program before you start doing your own art. Just get started, then problem solve as you go! It can be fun and gratifying to follow along with tutorials because they produce pretty results in the end, but for me personally I vastly prefer just being creative with a program and figuring out what I need to do as I stumble upon problems. I’m re-reading A Power Unbound and I just want to thank you so much for these ridiculously wonderful characters. I have been wishing/hoping/waiting/making sacrifices at the Altar of Enemies-to-Lovers for the Ross/Hawthorn pairing since page 119 of ART (literally 😂), so I can’t even express how excited I was to finally read a whole book about them! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

The magic system in The Last Binding is fascinating to me, and I wondered what research you did that informed your choices, especially about the objects chosen to represent the Last Contract. The knife, coin, and cup harken back to (what I understand to be) some ancient Celtic symbols. Was that intentional, and if so, were there any books or other resources that you found helpful in fleshing out the magic system?

and the symbolism of the cup, coin and knife went through some journeys during the writing of the trilogy: when they first popped into my head in the first draft of AML I was just like uhhhh need some nice magical archetype objects, they can be changed later if need be. but as I was developing my ideas about the overarching plot, and the themes of the trilogy as a whole, I realised that I could use them very deliberately for their tarot suit symbolism.

so each book and each romance thematically resonates with the base theme of the suit of tarot cards corresponding to the contract-piece most actively being sought after in that book. thinking about it in retrospect I could have swapped the knife and the coin and still had it work, but ART always had to be the cup. and I did want the two rings -> coin thing to happen in AML, because that commingling was ALSO a theme thing and also just....fun. to lay the clues of addy's ring and the ring in the clock literally in chapters 2/3 and have them lurking in the text to be discovered.

so yes! tarot. and then I got to fuck around some in APU with the idea of a fourth piece/s corresponding to the wands suit and the theme of willpower. that was in the nature of an easter egg for anyone whose pattern recognition had perked up all WHERE IS THE WAND, FREYA, YOU HAVE LEFT NEGATIVE SPACE IN THIS TEXT!

I did fill the space. just in a less obvious way.

(and to answer your other question, nope, the closest I got to reading books to flesh out the magic system were 'a children's book of cats cradle patterns' and 'a book on the history of a wide variety of trees and the use of their wood'. I am also very much on the beginner/amateur end of tarot knowledge, so I was going off the way I personally interpret and use the suits. and also vibes. so many vibes.)
