sometimes i hear tgirls talk about organising with/around other transfems in an idealised manner and it just sounds like they dont know what its like to organise this way. i dont bring this up directly, because it feels a pretty cruel way to follow up on girls being optimistic but here’s what it is. try working with other transfems who are outside of the transfeminist discourse youre familiar with and i promise you, you are going to find girls who believe some shit that you think is so nakedly transmisogynistic you cannot understand it. (as well as running the gamut on every other kind of bigotry besides. diversity of opinions, huh, who knew). and they arent going to want to back down, because transmisogyny has forced them into a corner where besides whether they believe what they say, they know expressing dissent in almost all settings is dangerous. and its risky, right? talking to a girl who is ardent that callouts are necessary for community safety, for example. its emotionally draining, socially risky work. but im not saying dont do it. in fact do, if you can. learn the landscape of applying transfeminism locally, how to share it, how to grow it. it will make you a better transfeminist. but it isnt going to be easy, and its better to be alive to that. that all said you know i love you sis. sorry if i sound like a hardass. good luck.

It’s so clear that Jason is supposed to be the main character out of the main characters of the seven (the books starting out with his pov, him having the last chapter in the book, that whole scene of him and Zeus in BoO, etc.) but rick riordan never utilizes him because he’d rather have Percy doing all of the heavy lifting and would rather sacrifice Jason character development in favor of giving Percy and Annabeth more screen time. watched the post-ep 8 recap and got annoyed at craig mazin and neil druckmann all over again for the "violent heart" line. none of what i'm about to say is new or groundbreaking, but i need to rant about it.

i feel like there is literally NOTHING about ellie killing david out of purely self-defense and the built up fear that she has felt for the past 24 hours that suggests that she is just this inherently violent person. she has a full-on emotional breakdown afterward and then goes into (what we are supposed to assume is) several weeks-months of not acting like herself, quiet and withdrawn and traumatized.

then bella did an interview about how ellie "enjoyed" killing david, as evidenced by the fact that she keeps hitting him even after he's dead, but i just don't agree!!! that was catharsis for ellie after pent up sheer terror, anger and grief over thinking she lost joel and was almost killed herself, and it's heavily implied that she was also almost sexually assaulted.

they use the earlier scenes (her face when joel kills the fedra guard, her insistence on carrying a weapon, etc.) as proof, but i just don't buy it. ellie is impressed by joel's violence & strength, the fact that he uses them to protect HER, the fact that she is in good hands and isn't going to die before being handed over to the fireflies even though she was obviously worried about it after being dumped on a pair of smugglers in boston with no further information. she wants a gun because she's an over-confident teenager who grew up in military school and also because...she wants to be able to protect herself, especially after being made to believe that she is the key to saving humanity and creating a vaccine.

this characterization of ellie as some violent, dangerous killer is so frustrating to me (if you couldn't tell), and i feel like they just use it so that fans of the show aren't totally put off by tlou part ii.

Okay, actually. Why are all omegaverse fics this bad morally? I mean, they can be really well-written, but they end up being so sexist anyway. And yes, we all know why, I suppose - the genre is historically used for smut mostly, and the smut relies heavily on degradation, denying humanity, and taking away agency. It relies on sexual assault and sexism, ok, we all know this. But now, I think, the genre has evolved. There are really thoughtful works out there, they are long, and they seemingly want to explore the relationships more than would be required only for smut. And still, the majority is so, so sexist. In many insidious ways.

I think this AU us very interesting, because it changes this fundamental dynamic in our world - it changes people's sex. I know, we call it "secondary gender", but what it really is, is sex. Omegas are women, and alphas are men (and betas are… smth else). This whole thing gives you the rare opportunity to turn all your favorite fandom guys into women. Make them be like you, in this very real sense. (assuming you're female yourself) It is very intriguing, how everything would change in this world, for this character. But! But the authors keep choosing internalized misogyny over all these interesting things. "I'm an omega, but I'm not weak like them", "I don't behave like omegas", "I don't need solidarity with other omegas, because I'm different" etc, etc. Yes, I get it, you're suddenly a third-class citizen, who, in this world, is expected to be abused. It must be hard to be in this position, but like. It is so uncomfortable to read - I know the text is saying "omegas", but what you really mean is "women", what you really mean is me. I am shallow, weak, and likely to be abused. I am icky and gross.

How can you write something like that about yourself, and people like you? You should think better about yourself.

you know, you know. no gods, no masters, no kings on pedestals. everyone is fallible. death of the author. you know! you are balanced about your intake of media - you allow the wiggle room, the grace, the gratitude, the skepticism. nobody above criticism.

but still. a weird gut-punch feeling, something akin to betrayal. you read the article. surprise! an author you love is actually: a serial fucking predator.

well, shit. what now. no, you knew he was a person (all people are), but now you're wondering - what have i overlooked by accident? what messages have i internalized that are strange and cruel? and also, like, what the fuck?

his actions lay a thick glaze on top of everything. like each place is now ruined, opaque in a new way. but okay, fine, you've done this before. you knew better, right? you've been betrayed by many a cherished childhood author.

still, this stickiness. fuck. can you pick up that book again. will you read it to your children. you've recommended it to others - will you ever do that again? and of course, of course, no parasocial relationships. you were theoretically above this kind of sentiment. but the artist informs the art, right.

so it's not something as clear-cut as feeling he owed you, specifically (a stranger) better behavior - just that you kind of, in a distant and odd way... sort of trusted him to do better. it's not like a real trust or something speakable, just the faint hope that the product (good books) was a thin representation of the soul. now it feels like the product (good? books?) was a mask. in some small or insignificant way, your previous support of this person lent them power. your money and your time and your laughter.

and the thing is - you have this terrible, echoing sensation. how many times will this happen? over and over. you find out that the singer you love is actually a predator. you learn over drinks that your favorite high school english teacher is in jail for what he did to her. you listen to the news idly and suddenly discover that a woman you used to idolize has been abusing her kids for an actual eon.

what can you touch without the static melting off. you can't even really complain about it too much (you were supposed to know better, and besides, you don't want the same re-split "it's not your fault, love what you love" basic advice), but now it's here. somehow, it feels like - you let him into your life.

it's not that things need to be pure or an artist has to be like, endlessly perfect, mindful. demure. it's more just this terrible truth that has been replayed through your veins so often it feels criminally vain. power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. did you want any one person to be worth that power?

it's just that he wrote books where he seemed to understand that. he seemed to know about hierarchies and unfair systems and bigotry and privilege. you thought they were books about what it means to struggle. you thought they were about having power and still using it for good rather than for control. he spooned you a narrative of being a good guy, a kind soul. you fucking bought what that fucking monster sold.

maybe that's why they were fantasies, after all.

listen there really was just something about how in the book, snow’s 3-page descent from hesitant lover boy to deluded mfer happens entirely in his mind. lucy gray gives him no indication whatsoever that she suspects him, that she’s going to leave or betray him. he’s just sitting quietly in the cabin waiting for her to return when that seed of calculated suspicion, which he has needed to survive the capitol, takes a hold of him and chokes the life out of any goodness left inside him. it really drives home your terror as a reader that “oh my god did he kill her? did she escape? what happened to her? why would he even think that?” in a way that when the movie had to adjust for visualization it lost some of that holy shit this guy has lost it emphasis.

Columbo and the Knight (1984)

put me in the universe where Columbo ran through the 1980s and had a crossover episode with Knight Rider. I think they deserved it, and I am not just saying that because they're my two favorite Old Shows. @telebeast wrote a little fanfic blurb about it and I HAD to visualize it into a comic (which is also the longest comic I have finished thus far at five pages...), so writing credit goes to them.
