Where can I find patterns for making Fashion Doll Clothes?
A friend and I were chatting tonight about doll clothes, and it occurred to me that if you've never dabbled in making doll clothes before, you may not know where to find patterns for them. So I'm sharing a list with you guys of every resource I know of.
Paid-For Patterns:
Requiem Arts: https://raddollclothes.com/
This is one of the big go-to's of the community. Requiem Arts has patterns for so many different fashion dolls, from Monster High (G1 and G3) to Rainbow High, to a number of BJDs, to Barbies, and even several for the boy dolls. I've gone to them for many a Descendants pattern since not a lot of places offer them. Her blog also features a number of great posts on size differences between dolls, fixing articulation, and more.
Dollightful: https://www.etsy.com/shop/DollightfulPatterns
If you need Monster High and Ever After High patterns with easy to follow instructions, this is the place to go! Dollightful only has a handful of patterns up, but her instructions are super easy to follow. They're just as enjoyable as her YouTube videos.
Moonlight Jewel: https://moonlightjeweldolls.myshopify.com/collections/ebooks
This artist has an interesting mix of patterns for fashion dolls, once again it's a lot of Monster High, but also a little bit of Rainbow High. I have her two pattern books, and they've got some wonderful picture instructions that put into perspective how to follow along. I hadn't realized until making this post that she's released a couple of individual patterns from her YouTube videos, that's really cool!
Enchanterium: https://www.enchanterium.com/shop
The Enchanterium sisters are a delight, and their patterns for MH, EAH, and Smart Dolls encompass a wide variety of genres. They even have some 3D printing files for shoes and accessories.
Cosmomoore: https://ko-fi.com/cosmomoore/shop/sewingpatterns
Cosmomoore is great if you need patterns for Rainbow High, Barbie, or G3 Monster High. All of the G3 patterns are under the Creepy Class tag. I've tried their skirt pattern for G3 Draculaura, it was a breeze to put together when you know a few basic stitches.
Free Patterns:
Enchanterium: https://www.enchanterium.com/shop/freebies
Enchanterium offers a number of freebies at this link! Most of them are patterns from their older YouTube videos, so there's those as a resource to follow along with.
Cosmomoore: https://ko-fi.com/cosmomoore/shop/sewingpatterns
Once again, this artist has a number of freebies, but they don't have a specific tag.
Poulpe en Ciel's Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1lkI6inme4K6wxw0IqTSGGju2bIQMln_A
This artist is known for having some truly extravagant patterns for Monster High and Cave Club dolls. And she offers them in both English and French! Highly recommend checking out Poulpe on Instagram, her dolls are absolutely to die for, and she puts so much heart into making her stuff accessible for the wider community.
Chellywood: https://chellywood.com/
Chellywood's website is a diamond in the rough. If you're looking for a doll pattern for a doll most people don't make patterns for, Chelly probably has it. Her website is organized by size and goes into individualized pages for each doll line. It's fantastic. And on top of that, she has YouTube videos!
MyFroggyStuff: https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOJWM4ft-CgHQI3fhqNJzWLG30C45Xl3xs-tgatId430gKVW-J8w5cB9ViW2jRPFw?pli=1&key=Y2Y2UDJ6S01Gb2EwUHRZUVJDdm9FanpMdDZzY1RR
Barbie lovers rejoice, this is your kingdom! While there's no tagging system here, Toya has patterns for everything, from mermaid tails to cute easy dresses, this is a great place to go. Her YouTube channel is also an endless resource of creativity.
If you have any resources for patterns, or for places to buy doll clothing, feel free to reblog! I'd love to include more people from our lovely doll community so people know about them!

Monster High and East Asian Representation
Alright MH fans, we need to have a semi-serious conversation about how East Asian rep has been handled in the franchise. Representation itself has been a big point of conversation in the community, so it's important to talk about all of its aspects. The good, the bad, and the ill-conceived.
For context, I am an East Asian-American who has seen time and time again her culture be misrepresented, boiled down to stereotypes, and even mocked by other Asian cultures. Am I the all-time expert? Absolutely not, which is why I encourage other East Asian/Asian-American fans to give their comments about the franchise's handling of Asian characters.
Now then, we'll start with G1 since it probably has some of the most infamous pieces of representation
There is a lot to unpack with G1 Jinafire's design and personality. Not only the choice of golden skin, the misguided outfit choices, and emphasis on honor and discipline, but also the oriental riff often accompanying her in every backing scene. Highly encourage people to look into the Asian Dragon Lady stereotype, because unfortunately, that is what Jinafire is.
It is acknowledgeable that Jinafire's voice actress, Stephanie Sheh, is also Chinese, but there is still error with her character as a whole. Jinafire was personally one of the first Asian characters in media that I was introduced too, so it's upsetting to reflect on how negative her character design is.
Shibooya is... not great. The exchange program as a whole feels like a minefield of issues (though I don't have much liberty to discuss the other transfers), and this one especially rubbed me the wrong way. They gave the vampires of Shibooya yellow skin, and the doll is supposed to kimono-inspired while hardly even resembling one.
Harajuku style was right there and easily fit the fashions of Monster High. There are also a number of Japanese yokai that could've been featured within the short and would have likely been better representation than the vampires.
Kiyomi is okay, and certainly an improvement compared to the previous G1 characters. She's based off the Noppera-bo, aka the faceless ghost, and it's used decently in her design. However, her personality is boiled down into being shy, quiet, and reserved, which is a stereotype many Asian girls face under the name "Lotus Blossoms". She even has blossoms on her dress sleeves, and her outfit again is a loose interpretation of a kimono.
There are a number of modern Japanese outfit designs that could be used, and kimonos are often associated with modesty and respect. Kimonos are not meant to be revealing in any way, covering the body in full and being intricately wrapped. I personally take issue with the designers noting her chains meaning to resemble the sailor collar, which is used in middle school uniforms, not high school uniforms.
Kiyomi is, of course, hardly mentioned and refined to a movie role, in which she copies and mimics the personality/style of an European character.
Now onto G3!
Honestly, nothing really to critique here! Draculaura's been canonically been confirmed to be at least half-Taiwanese and speaks Mandarin. Now would it be nicer to get more appearances of her culture other than a couple throw-away lines? Yes it would, but there isn't anything really negative about this portrayal. I think it'd be interesting if Draculaura had a Taiwanese name she went by around her mother, or just casual moments of her eating scallion pancakes or aiyu jelly.
aaaaaand here's where we automatically fall back on representation. This may not seem that major to people, but considering this is the first Japanese character we get in G3, it's not great. Points for the writers looking past the most common yokai, but I don't know any person that wants to be represented by an animal.
I really do need people to realize how this is compared to the other characters. I wasn't initially reactive to Kuma's introduction until I realized they were making him a consistent character. Considering we don't have many other anthro/fully monstrous characters, and they chose to make him the Japanese representation doesn't seem right. Especially since they gave him the lead in the cultural appropriation vs. appreciation episode. An excellent episode, but it loses some sentiment coming from a literal bear.
Plus I would implore you all to rewatch Horrorscare and take a close look at the Japanese water dragon Pearl. And I'll remind you she exists in the same world as Jinafire.
now this is what I'm talking about! Not only has the skin issue been resolved, but the creators took a step in the right direction and made Jinafire more akin to Chinese dragons, who are often connected to storms and rain. Her outfit is also much more akin to street fashion in China. I still wish there was more to see with Jinafire's character, but she absolutely an improvement to her G1 iteration!
Well that's a lot to unpack there! Again, I am in no way the expert on East Asian representation and I'm going to miss some things. I encourage other fans to think about these characters and how you feel about them, and maybe even point out things I missed, good or bad! I did this simply out of my own feelings and wanted to see if anyone else felt the same.

MONSTER HIGH G3 IS NOT AS INCLUSIVE AS MONSTER HIGH G1
EDIT: THIS IS JUST A RANT, DON'T TAKE IT SO SERIOUSLY LOL
Maybe that sounds crazy. Maybe it's been said a million times. Anyway, I'm just ranting about my 3 am thoughts.
I know in G3 we have non-binary Frankie (who also has a prosthetic leg), and the Draculaura doll is more curvy. But as far as I'm concerned, they took everything else that made Monster High inclusive.
For starters, and I know it was never actually confirmed, but still, Clawdeen is lesbian (bisexual at best). Once again, it was never confirmed, but in my opinion is a theory popular enough for the Monster High management to hear about it.
If they really wanted to make it more inclusive, why did they not confirm Clawdeen sexuality and give her a female romantic interest?
No, they had to break up one of their best couples. This leads me to my next point, what the fuck are Cleo and Deuce doing being separated?
The first G1 dolls literally came as a package. If you got one, you got the other. That's how much of an obvious couple they were. And not only that, in the Boo York movie, they broke up for like five minutes before realizing they didn't want to be without each other.
Which, in my opinion, it's so fucking cute because they come from completely different worlds. Cleo is royalty, Deuce is just a normal guy. Cleo is a little too superficial, and Deuce looks like he never showers. But they love each other and that's enough.
And you know who else loved each other and that was enough? Clawd and Draculaura. What do you even mean with "Clawd likes Cleo"? That man was in love with Draculaura, that man would've done anything for her, and you're telling me they also broke them apart?
Especially since they made Draculaura curvy, it would've been beautiful to see them together. Because it would've been a great plot point to have jock, almost-bully Clawd evolve into falling in love with curvy, smart, witchy Draculaura. But no, they just separated them.
On a completely different note. What the fuck is Gil doing without his tank? Do I even have to explain why this is taking inclusivity out of the Monster High concept? He couldn't live without his tank outside the water. Ergo, he was limited without his tank. If you ask me, this is Monster High equivalent to something like hearing aids (and this is just an example, there are many other things you could compare Gil's tank to)
Also, Ghoulia talking bothers me a lot. First of all, she was the smartest of the group, but we couldn't understand what she was saying, which added a lot of comedy since us, the spectators, were only pretending to know what the fuck Ghoulia's plan was. And I repeat, she was the smartest of the group.
The smartest of the group couldn't communicate like everyone else. I won't even explain why that is fascinating in itself, because it just is and it added so much depth to whole story. And to add more to my problem with G3 Ghoulia, why is she standing straight and walking at a regular speed?
Ghoulia standing like a zombie was, again, to me, a form of inclusivity to all the kids out there who had some walking impediment, or, in general, had any chronic illness that stopped them from moving around. And her walking slow as fuck was just straight-up funny (especially that one web episode where she got a motorcycle).
There's a lot of things I do like about G3, as I think it improves the brand in wonderful ways, but they definitely took some of the most essential things that made Monster High what it was.

I've been having a TON of fun dressing dolls up in clothes made by @cosmomoore! This isn't even everything I have, and I've already ordered something else whoops.
Some ghoulfriends! This is Ghoul Spirit Cleo, wearing an outfit Cosmo Moore designed (including the fabric!) with stock accessories (headband is Skulltimate Secrets, shoes are I think core, earrings are Ghoul Spirit and idr where the necklace is from) based off of early g3 concept art and Feardescent Frankie wearing an ooak outfit they designed including accessories! Frankie even has socks that you can't see, which is so fun.
I have so many Draculaura leggings that it's almost not even funny. Cosmo Moore just had SO MANY prints that look adorable on her! This is Ghoul Spirit Draculaura wearing Bite in the Park stock along with some lovely spooky leggings and a delightful pink jacket. I love how the leggins look with her dress so much!
Twyla is a bit of a mess right now, but that's okay bc she's comfy! She's wearing her stock shoes, skirt and accessories as well as a Neon Frights top (sans earrings idk where they are) with the leggings I originally got for Lagoona but forgot about her fins along with a trans version of Cosmo Moore's skeleton bomber jacket and a "plush" rabbit purse! I'm very happy to have a pastel version of that jacket, and as SOON as I saw this little rabbit, I knew Twyla needed it.
The last one for this post is Lagoona sporting one of the ooak outfits Cosmo Moore did for her! I love that each piece of clothing incorporates multiple but not all of her palette, and the button holes to accommodate her fins is a very clever idea! The outer top is reversible, and this is actually the back side - if you look at the pic they originally posted the front is a very nice blue that's subtly different from the blue background of the shirt. It's absolutely lovely, but I'm more of a high contrast monster myself. This Lagoona is Skulltimate Secrets with stock earrings and shoes. I'd put the hat on, but it fell off in a hard to reach spot so hatless she shall be.
I absolutely adore the little winged heart purse, too! I keep imagining her chewing on it to self soothe. And this is an outfit for a ghoul design they didn't like all that much! And it still turned out so good! That's super impressive to me, especially since Lagoona is probably my single favorite character this generation due to how fun she is in the show and how much I like lots of color.

AAAAHHHH~
CRANBERRY DRACULAURA MY LOVE—
please she’s so pretty !!!!! 😭😭💖
that face up !! love love seeing these upclose pics !! (yikes on the poly hair though. her hairs are flying in the back >.<)
but now we can color match better for reroots !! AWW YEH >:3 I IS EXCITED FOR HER !!!!!
VENUS IS GORGEOUS OMG!! although i do wish her entire hair had been in the micro braids and not just the top few… its the least they could’ve done if they were gonna remove her twists >.< let’s hope her next doll has natural hair ♡ she has to get more dolls and get to keep her hair !!
i never like twyla’s dolls but she looks cute here !! (also has that yikes flying hair in the back >.< poly is atrocious T_T)
regarding lagoona, i have so much to say about the situation and the leakers
i for one feel bad for the leakers. they shouldn’t have to explain themselves to us. they already do so much for us by telling us what we’re getting. it’s not their fault lagoona got cancelled. saying it cuz them having to explain things and wondering why they would lie implies people are accusing them of it ://
it just doesn’t make sense for them to lie. their leaks are always right. why would they be wrong this time ?? they also got the lineup (drac, venus and twyla) right and the theme. if everything’s correct, why would they suddenly throw in a random character and claim she’s in the line too ?? seems lagoona was canceled at some point late in production. the leakers aren’t mattel. obviously they wouldn’t have known she was cancelled
it is strange though. it sounds more like a target thing, but i wouldn’t know. is just a theory. welcome committee frankie was suppose to go along with fearbook as a target exclusive but was dropped and moved over to amazon. lagoona being canceled and also a target exclusive sounds iffy to me. target is the common denominator here
i saw someone else say maybe SS3 ghoulia didn’t do too well, which is why SS4 was cut down to four characters instead of five and clawdeen managed to be squeezed in as a target exclusive somehow. that makes sense and sounds possible. my theory is clawdeen got in as an exclusive for target because it’s possible the contract or whatever was already agreed upon. SS4 had to be in the works already by the time SS3 came out so it would’ve been too late to cancel no ??? but then that can’t make sense cuz why cancel lagoona so late into production?? unless clawdeen sells better than lagoona but i wouldn’t know the ranks of popularity based off character alone
i also saw someone saying G3 is not selling well which is why she was dropped. it could be. we have no way of knowing what goes on behind the scenes but then why would mattel be making new lines and new dolls as well ?? why even give us spectra and fearbook and the next upcoming lines and the ones for next year ?? so many lines are coming out and they’re gonna be around for a year since that’s usually the timespan of dolls on shelves until the next ones come in
my guess is lagoona isn’t popular enough and target didn’t wanna have an abundance of stock on a doll that perhaps wouldn’t sell well ?? it’s the only thing that makes sense to me :// target would have a better idea of what dolls sell better than others more than we do
seems the obvious popular ones are draculaura, frankie, cleo, toralei and twyla since they’re the dolls that i notice tend to get new releases regularly. maybe clawdeen too but idk for sure since she could simply get pumped out for being the main character this gen and not cuz she’s popular (i’m referring to the two-packs she keeps getting with drac. if she sold well mattel wouldn’t feel the need to slap drac in the pack with her but who knows)
idk. it’s a very strange situation all around…

Things I love about G3 part four: the different body types
I don’t know about the rest of you, but the different body molds in G3 were one of if not the first sign that this generation was going to be authentically inclusive - and it was so exciting! I don’t know of any other major doll lines with such diversity this way! Like yes, G1 had different heights, but now we have tall dolls, short dolls, super tall dolls, curvy dolls, curvier dolls and truly plus-sized dolls like Catty Noir (who would’ve been in this photo if she were on shelves yet.) Venus is here instead of Cleo because at the time I took this I thought she and Cleo shared a body type - but I’ve been told they had the same thigh mold, while l Venus is on the standard body. My bad!
Anyway, the body type diversity is so amazing!! I know I feel seen in Frankie’s taller body mold and I have friends who feel the same way about Draculaura and Abbey! I also love that Mattel brought back the addition of molded fur and scales, and added prosthetics as well! We as adults - especially those of us in our thirties - know what it’s like to grow up in a world of extremely limited beauty standards and acceptance: this is just another great way to teach kids (and narrow-minded parents) that beauty comes in many forms and you can love yourself just the way you are.
I love living in a world where Monster High fully understands and embraces the power of its tagline: be yourself, be unique, be a monster🖤

doll collection post
Hi guyz!! so somebody asked me to post my doll collection a while back and I put it off because i'm trying to rearrange my setup but its taking much longer than expected due to irl stuff.
But I dont wanna wait anymore! Feel free to just scroll through the pictures, you don't have to read the commentary if you don't want to. In fact you don't have to scroll through any of this at all. I wrote a lot because I am severely neurodivergent. Having a genuine blogging moment rn.
I have been waiting forever for an excuse to post my collection!! I was so happy someone suggested I do so.
I don't have a lot of room for everybody! Everyone is scattered around my room, but I try my best to display them nicely...
My G1 collection is moderately sized, these dolls are expensive and difficult to find. There are so many more I want, like Dead Tired Lagoona or Sweet 1600 Draculaura to go with my Sweet 1600 Clawdeen...sigh. But it just keeps getting harder! I am actually content with stopping my G1 collecting hunt for now and instead focusing on G3... Many of these dolls are from my dear friends, especially Leo and Raven (hi guyz!). Without my friends, I would only have three of these dolls... I am so lucky to be so loved!!!
I don't have many bratz that are in good enough shape to be on display. I really grew up on bratz rather than monster high... but again...these dolls get expensive! Roxxi was always a favorite of mine and a crush! Growing up, I was the type of kid who almost exclusively wanted one brat though. Yasmin. Not Cloe, Jade, or Sasha. I was devoted to collecting Yasmin because she looked similar to me. In retrospect, I really wish I had gotten more of the other girls...I do have some...though their numbers pale in comparison to the Yasmin army.
The ball-jointed doll is my most expensive doll and my largest doll (she is fucking ginormous). Even when buying her at half the original price (great deal from a great friend) she was hardly affordable.
I bought her because I plan on customizing her to be Flandre Scarlet, my ultimate comfort character! I've always dreamed of having a doll of Flan. SO why not make one myself? I've had her for months but am still too scared to cut that beautiful hair off...I'm no good at cutting wigs/hair in general. I did install her red eyes myself which I've never done before as this is my first and probably last bjd! She is gorgeous but I would consider these dolls luxury items... VERY EXPENSIVE.
(idk why the exposure is so high on these, sorry!! >_<;)
I am so happy to have the coffin bean playset!! I think it was a really good idea to get it. but I am so sad because I have hardly any room for it! So It's sitting on my dresser in front of a giant mirror so please excuse the poor editing I did to obscure the reflection of me and my living space lol...
I gave my Twyla low pigtails, though they aren't very visible, and my Clawdeen braids! I think Clawdeen looks super cute this way tbh I tried curling her hair again and again and again but the curls always fell out (I dont have much experience)...but honestly... I think I like this look even better ^_^. You can see her ears so well this way.
This Clawdeen is basically my holy grail and it was gifted to me by Leo, Leo if you're reading this I hope you know you are basically Jesus.
not to get deep but the OMG doll next to her is special to me because it is one of the last gifts I got from my late Grandpa. He took me to target and when I said I liked the doll, no questions asked, he bought her for me. Didn't give me shit for liking dolls at my big age. He simply got her for me because she made me happy, and he wants me to be happy. Dolls can mean so much. Again, I am so lucky to be so loved!!! >:D
I have this gorgeous Draculaura just chilling next to my jewelry cuz I have nowhere else to put her and honestly she is gorgeous and should stand alone.
Here I have the pride Bratz next to my bed!!! They mean so much to me, as I said earlier I had a crush on Roxxi. To see she's a canon lesbian now is so incredible!! And Nevra, her girlfriend, is beautiful! They are so cute together... they are never leaving that box though. This was actually the first doll/set of dolls where I fully understood why people are content leaving dolls in their boxes. I love to play with my dolls so much... but I could never play with these two!! If anything happened to them I would lose my mind.
Now... you're probably thinking......where the hell is Lagoona?!?! Do you not have one despite loving her this much? Of course I have a Lagoona. I AM GROWING AN ARMY!!!!!!
I really, really love Lagoona...I want to get every Lagoona doll I possibly can. Isn't she so cute! I relate to her character in the cartoon a lot too... her life at home, her difficulties speaking up when she is sad or angry, her sporty personality, etc etc... She has quickly claimed her spot as biggest comfort character #2. I included many pictures because I simply cannot pick one, she is flawless. You might recognize the Lagoona on the left, I drew her in that exact pose recently!!
I have her army on my desk, giving me the strength I need to get through my work... like Homer Simpson with his pictures of baby Maggie at his work. I get endless inspiration and motivation from Lagoona!!!
And here is the Flandre shrine bonus... I adore her!! I also have finally ordered a fumo flan that should arrive in august around my birthday eeek!!!
Anyways that is my collection. It's been many years in the making, though it's almost doubled since monster high G3 released... Mattel truly has me by the balls right now. If you read any of this, thank you. I put a lot of time into making this post, and it was really fun. I feel like a real blogger right now.
I really really enjoy dolls and talking about them. So I will happily do so anytime I get the chance!!! Will probably do an update once I finally install some more shelves and move stuff around <3

omg not u believing a quiz in a website made by a third party company solely for the purpose of a failed giveaway in australia that mixes up the movie and cartoon/doll continuities over an actual leaked bible from a huge 4chan (not reddit!) nickelodeon leak that matches up with stuff released after it that's firmly believed by all the trusted doll leak sources...
and what was that about twyla and venus?
Why is it y’all only have the guts to air your greviences to me on anon? I wont block you for disagreeing with me, I’m not sensitive or a wuss and I’m much more inclined to be polite to someone with a name and not a faceless nobody. Just an FYI.
An international branch of Mattel is a way more reliable source than Reddit & if you think it’s a flex telling me the “leaked show Bible” came from 4chan & NOT Reddit, BOY have I got some news for you about the legitimacy of 4chan.
Yes, the Live Action Movie & The Show have different canons… is there a point to that statement or are we just saying the obvious? Not everything is going to be quadruple confirmed in canon like Draculaura being Asian or Frankie being nonbinary (movie character, actor, TV character, voice actor) all things won’t be hammered in that hard so we gotta take what we can get and international monster high is fair game because Mattel has to approve everything they do.
That leaked show “Bible” is sketchy as hell & no Monster High enthusiast worth their salt has taken it seriously. If you know anything about children’s media there is a lot of language used in it that is not Nickelodeon appropriate and I’m not the only one who thinks so. We don’t know where it came from, who wrote it or who posted it. Y’all saw something that looks slightly official and ran with it and that my darlings is a fool’s errand.
Y’all need to be more critical of the information you consume and perpetuate. “You should believe in nothing that you hear and only half of what you see- Edgar Allen Poe.”
And we need to stop screaming theories as if they are canon. I PERSONALLY head canon Twyla & Venus as lesbians (not together, Twyla is obviously in love with Howleen) because UNLIKE Clawdeen who has shown an interest in boys in previous generations they have never shown an interest in actual boys as far as I know. (I also made a chart of Clawdeen being attracted to girls for equal measure) that is how I see them, I don’t go shooting off that, that is canon information.
I know a lot of you desperately want Clawdeen to be a lesbian, I am very, painfully aware of this head canon but it is just that! A head canon! Yes it’s a very popular & persistent head canon but it’s a head canon nonetheless. G3 Clawdeen appears to have a crush on Deuce, now we don’t have time to unpack that weird ass ship but it does rule out Clawdeen as a lesbian. It does NOT however mean she is straight! Clawdeen could very well be Bi or Pan or any other sapphic inclusive sexuality. I PERSONALLY see her as Bi (for the reasons stated above) but you don’t see me claiming it’s canon.
“But Jess! What about compulsory heterosexuality!” - Clawdeen was created by a gay man. Do y’all really think a member of the LGBTQA+ community would put her through something that was hell for so many of us!? I highly doubt it.
I do not make the canon, I just study and report the canon, if had my way everyone would be fatter, browner and gayer.
Please, for the love of your deity of choice: stop believing everything you read, always ask for a source and stop being so cool with people making fake leaks it’s not some fun new fad it’s intentionally misleading & a little cruel to those of us who aren’t so great at social cues.
Mattel makes the canon & if it’s not from Mattel it’s probably not real.

It’s time for another doll review!
today, i’m unboxing venus mcflytrap, the newest in the series of core students for monster high g3. she’s been showing up in targets sporadically, though my targets tend to be late on the pickup so i ended up ordering her for delivery as soon as she was up on the website.
she was delivered a few days early and i sent her to my moms house, so i was dying to go back there to open her up for those few days. here’s her in box! she’s quite tall, though without an abbey to compare im not sure if she’s about the same size as her?
freed from the box! once again the star jar is my prop-up instead of a proper stand, though venus is actually sturdy enough to stand on her own without too much trouble.
of course we’ll take a look at the shoes. g3 loves a gradient boot, and i’m a fan here. the look like concrete planters before they fade to pink, and the teeth are just hilarious.
the vines are rubbery and removable. the bottoms of them have a peg that secures them to the boots.
another detail i wanted a close up on is venus’s molded vine details. i love that g3 is going more in with the monsterey details, and these are awesome. they peek out just above her mismatched legging pieces
the face: venus’s mold and makeup are both great. instead of the shaved side of her g1 version, she has molded braids, which still give her that asymmetrical look. her ear mold also has a leaf look to it as well. her hair is some kind of yarn, i believe. i’m not sure how durable the ends are, though, so i may see if there’s a need to seal them to preserve them. (in addition, one minor defect i have seen people have with their venus rooting is that the larger yarn plugs seem to sometimes tear her scalp slightly, so it may be something to check for if you’re buying her in person.) i’m a very big fan of the black features they’ve added to venus this generation, which i think has been the general consensus on her design that i’ve seen online. her reception has been overwhelmingly positive, and she is the doll that has many people warming up to g3. and id have to agree! i’m a little picky with what dolls i want (unless they’re draculaura dolls, lol) and she was an instant note on my wantlist as soon as those stock photos were out.
accessories! venus comes with a clear open backpack, icoffin, energy bar, water bottle, a hair product bottle (if someone knows specifically what product it is please let me know, im not sure off the top of my head), sunglasses shaped like venus flytraps (of course) and her pet, chewlian.
chewlian is well… definitely a pet! he does come out of the pot, though. i said this in a previous review, i think core lagoonas, but i’m continually baffled and amused at the ability of g3 to turn every pet into a dog or cat version of it. while the pets have never been a draw for me, this is just comical. i think i’ll stick by a previous joke i made that chewlian just ate someone’s dog, and that’s why he looks like that.
the backpack can hold one (1) chewlian or all of her other accessories. something about the way this backpack sits on her or the silhouette or something is awesome to me, i love it a lot. it’s super cute, and i want to display her with the bag instead of storing the backpacks like i usually do.
one last little thing, while i don’t have abbey, my draculauras, or even twyla to compare her too, i think venus is about abbey height, though i think she’s got a slimmer body and hips. here’s her next to frankie. venus also uses the clawed hand mold.
of course, we have to have the obligatory .5 shot
and that’s venus! one last note i want to make is there’s been a lot of fomo around her, but i want to remind people she is going to be widely available as abbey and clawd are. she is going to stick around for a long time compared to other lines, so there’s no need to pay scalper prices for her (i know i say this as someone who bought her as soon as i could, but that was as soon as i could for strictly retail price. i’m just saying i get it, lol.)
i also recognize that that’s a bit america-centric, but she also did start showing up in person in the UK before the US, so hopefully her international release isn’t as frustrating as other lines and characters.
thanks for reading! big g3 venus fan now and forever, and i’m excited to see her eventually show up in other lines, too!

Soooooo. Anyone clownish enough to give Mattel money for that overpriced Designer doll???
….that would be me…I’m the problem…🤡
I was on the fence about getting Lenore…I am a sucker for new Monster High face sculpts and I don’t see her getting any cheaper…so I bought her.
Whelp. Here she is.
Like everyone and their mother has said: she’s not worth $75 bucks (she was $81.98 with shipping, which doesn’t make things ANY better).
To compare, G1 basic dolls were $15.99-25.99 when they were on shelves. They came with a diary, and at the beginning: a pet, a stand, and some sort of bag/purse.
Amazon’s G1 Draculaura exclusive was $50.00. She had embroidered clothing, an ornate (and crappy) stand, and a diary dripping with LORE!!!
Most G3 basic dolls are $25.99-29.99 and are now getting UV screened/painted accessories. AND many of their pets are getting different second and third/fourth sculpts.
Mattel’s Skullector Vampire Heart Draculaura and Fang Vote Jinafire were $90.00-$100.00 each. Draculaura has VERY detailed clothing pieces, a stand, and ornate headpiece and shoes. Jinafire has some insanely sculpted accessories, a stand, and probably a great multi-layered dress.
The Haunte Couture dolls were $75.00 a piece, came with stands, fabric bags, some metallic plated accessories, some layered clothing, brushes, rooted eyelashes and DIARIES.
I see her release akin to G1’s special releases: Basic Catty’s, Casta’s, and Amanita’s dolls. Doll comes in an “elaborate dress,” a diary/introduction to the doll (very important in introducing and getting attached to these new characters) and no pet…while Lenore has a pet and no diary.
I don’t know why Mattel seems allergic to giving their dolls (especially G1 themed dolls) diaries. They make composition notebooks, doll accessories, and even a Spirit Halloween bag themed as their diaries (so they know it’s part of the MH aesthetic), but don’t want to go that extra mile in introducing their “Brand Boo Student” with a diary?! And like, they were hyping the shit out of Lenore being a brand boo student….
Hahahahahahhahahaha!!! Lenore Headcannons under the cut:
Here’s what a ten minute brainstorm came up with: Lenore was a teenaged daughter of a hinted at famous poet. After her mom died, her dad spent more time on his poetry, which left Lenore alone to play out in the garden she had started to grow and collect with her mom. She was spending more and more time out in the garden, either deep in her books on flora from around the world or trimming/weeding her precious plants. She becomes enamored with rarer and more unusual flowers and plants (throw in a drawing of Amanita’s hibernating flower-form and/or some newspaper clippings of monstrously large venus flytraps being found). She even started feeding a raven that has started hanging around the garden, it seems so friendly that she starts talking to and sharing her love of plants and that she wishes to discoverer a plant that no one else has! One dark and stormy night, while getting ready for bed (a reason for her hair to be down and to have a flowing Victorian nightgown look) the raven raps on her window sill. She was startled, but opens the window to let the sopping bird in. It drops something from his beak and it’s one of those eyeball flowers that are all over her art and accessories. It blinks at her. She jumps back, which scares the raven back into flight. It caws: “nevermore” and flies back out the window. Without stopping to think, Lenore lights her lantern and runs down the stairs, out the door, and towards the expansive gardens after it. The raven stays just within her lantern’s limited light but the storm is getting worse and the hedge maze she is normally familiar with is feeling larger and more menacing. The raven is getting harder to see. She hears whispers and starts feeling eyes watching her from the hedges. And it’s so cold and she’s practically drenched through. She should have grabbed something more than her VERY light sleeping gown. She whips around for the raven or to get her bearing. She’s lost! She feels tears start to dampen her cheeks along with the rain. She hears more rustling behind her again. She turns and lifts her lantern towards the sound, but her boots catch and trip on the strange damp vines (the same ones that make up her belt and part of her shoes) sticking out from under the hedges, she falls down hard (darn running in the rain in her bright pink victorian heels) and her lantern goes out. The last thing she hears is the raven swooping down by her. “Nevermore! Nevermore!” She had breached one of the veils/thin spots/transition zones to and from the Monster and Normie worlds. (In G1 I surmised that their worlds were parallel dimensions with overlapping places (like New Salem)). This breach’s mostly made up of Monstery Mirrored version of her family’s estate gardens all lit by never ending dripping candles.
So like Spectra, she wasn’t born to ghosts, but became a ghost through and accident. And since dying, maybe she can only speak in rhymes now (her diary could cut off and every sentence ends in a rhyme). And why is she at Monster High now? Maybe she’s just come to New Salem for a Monster High sponsored (in-verse Monster High has to have some serious money with all their prestigious alumni) Garden Show or a “Plant Exhibition of the Monster World.” Insert a tie back into the Gloom and Bloom line (she heard that last year a corpse flower was put on display and bloomed). Maybe she’s representing Haunted High (due to her being made from solid colored plastic and having a “ghost masked face” is something that is mostly seen in the ghost realm of the Monster world. Ghosts that mostly live in the main Monster world itself (like Spectra, Johnny, the Create a Monster Ghost, and Symphanee) all have see through parts). She could even name drop River/Vandala/Porter/ Kiyomi. You have the implied history and a whole world already started Mattel, use it! Oh! I haven’t explained the 👁️👄👁️spider yet….ummm. It’s her pet garden spider (THEY DIDN’T EVEN GIVE IT A NAME) that helps protect her rare plants from hungry pests and even some insects too. If Porter tries making his own paint from some of her flowers without asking again, oh so help her. Ummmm. Maybe she’s afraid of ravens now? So River’s pet always startles her. Vandala has inherited some treasure maps of far away places that may contain plants yet to be discovered? Hmmm, Kiyomi gave her a sapling of a cherry tree and swears nothing is more beautiful than their blossoms??????? I dunno.
See! I’m already bonding with Lenore more now and can see why she has some of her accessories, style choices, the sassy looking pet, and why they didn’t give her see through anything (did Symphanee take all the see-through plastic Mattel?!?!).
Tada, I have put more thought and have tied this back into the brand more than Mattel has.
WAIT! Or maybe (due to the trippy/bright colors on her box, and the eyeball flowers) MAYBE she was drinking a bit too much absinthe at her Garden Tea Parties with the other Victorian ladies; went to get up to use the loo, couldn’t see straight, started screaming that the “flowers have eyes” and “the giant spider with candles knows all of her secrets”, took another step, couldn’t walk in her weird heels and fell on her face and died. It made for a really awkward Garden Party.
The possibilities Mattel!!!
Okay, I’ll be making an actual review of her in the next couple of posts.

#grave-st0ned#thoughts w/ corey#monster high#mh#monster high gen 3#monster high g3#mh g3#mattel#dollblr#like at this point i’m confused why nickelodeon didn’t just make draculaura the main character in their show#with how many goddamn dolls of her there are#give us some more of like ghoulia & twyla & abbey#or like i’d love an iris doll#i know they’re coming out with leone dolls next spring but that’s so long from now

Talking About The New Scare-adise Island Dolls (Monster High G3)
Monster High G3's newest line, beach wave Scare-adise Island has just fully leaked! As always, I am just delighted to see new dolls and want to talk all about them and my opinions on each doll, and if i will be buying them once they release.
The Line Overall
Not many people know this, but I love beach lines. They're a staple of any doll line naturally, but I love to see the takes that a brand does on swim wear or summer fashion, and how they make it both fashionable and practical. And for the most part, I do think Scare-adise Island does a good job at this. Each doll, bar one, comes dressed in swimwear, and all of them come with a bag, sunglasses, a drink, and an extra accessory. There is also a playset, which comes with a lot more accessories, as well as a doll.
Clawdeen Wolf
Clawdeen's doll is quite interesting, and I don't excatly think it captures a beachy vibe. Clawdeen comes dressed in a green leopard print swimsuit, with holes in the sides. She also wears a transparent purple pair of long pants with black patterns, transparent pink shoes, and a transparent purple visor, both made of a "gummy" plastic material. She comes with a purple bag, lavender water bottle with sipping straw, green crescent moon sunglasses and a novel, titled "Howler Thriller".
This look doesn't fully read as "beach" to me- the pants, and more full heels paired with her swimsuit almost read to me as being a "dance" look. I think Clawdeen would have been improved by one thing- having shorts instead of long pants. Her accessories are cute, and I especially like the water bottle, even if it is a recycled mold from G3 Basic Clawd. I also think her shoes should have matched the visor- why are they pink?? At least the green sunglasses match both the swimsuit and earrings. Her pink lipstick is also a little weird- MH PLEASE give her a natural lip. Or even, purple! I think her side ponytail is cute, but I cannot help but think it will be poly, again.
This Clawdeen is cute overall, but she is not for me.
Frankie Stein
This Frankie doll is super cute- and looks so transgender in all of the best ways. They are dressed in a silver and white top, and black and white checked board shorts, with yellow lightning bolts streaked across them. Over top, they wear a black button-up top, with yellow lightning bolt patterns. They have long straight hair, which is black, white and blue streaked, and sport a silver bucket hat, with blue and yellow rings piercing the brim. They wear cute black heel sandals, and come with a blue bag, yellow skullette drinks cup, yellow lightning shaped shades and a green sports ball.
I personally adore this Frankie, and I think it was the best possible thing they could have designed for them. I think the color combo of the look is great, and I hope it stays the same in the animated series. One of the only complaints I can really give is the pink lips- Frankie do you only own one pot of lip gloss? This Frankie would have been so cute with a black, blue, or even yellow lip! I suppose it is an easy fix for any customizers, though.
This Frankie is so so stunning! I think they are worth a buy for any fans of Frankie and beach wear.
Draculaura
And another banger! Draculaura looks absolutely stunning in this look, sporting a pink sunhat with black bat shaped bow, pink and yellow cobweb earrings that look almost like a sun, a pink bikini with cobweb patterns and black ruffles, and a transparent cover up with cobweb patterns. Draculaura wears pink pumps, and comes with pink sunglasses recolored from her core look, sunscreen, a mocktail with little bat wings, and a black, bat shaped bag with a pink charm. She wears her hair in a low ponytail, and it is mostly black with pink streaks.
This Draculaura is pretty perfect, and I don't really have any complaints other than she could maybe use a necklace or two in her look. She is oh-so very pretty, and I love the way that they made the cobwebs of the design look like suns.
I think that this Draculaura is great, and an absolute must own for Draculaura and beach doll enthusiasts. So pretty!
Heath Burns
Making his first ever doll debut in G3, it's Heath Burns! And honestly, I like it! Heath Burns has orange skin, and orange eyes, and has plastic hair, which is made to resemble a mohawk. The hair is shaved on both sides, and he has red painted hair. Heath's face sculpt also has small pointed ears. Heath wears a blue hoodie with flame patterns, and blue board shorts with a similar flame patterns. Heath also sports a pair of slip-on sandals, which are dark blue with flame patterns. The Heath Burns doll also comes with a blue tote bag, an orange, volcano shaped drink, a bottle of sunscreen, and orange sunglasses with flames on the frames.
As somebody who loved G3 Heath with all my heart, I have to say that I just love this doll. I do wish his face sculpt better matched his show counterpart, by having bigger ears, a longer, thinner face, and a different nose shape, rather than looking similar to the other boys. I also am a fan of bald Heath, and prefer it over the mohawk. The outfit is similar to what he wears in the show, except for the shoes. I do wish that this doll had come out in another line so that it could better match the show, but now is better than never, and Heath is the last member of the "poster cast" (characters featured on promotional posters and advertisements) to get a doll. Also, I really hope he's short! I NEED him to be shorter than Abbey!
I like this doll! He's pretty good for a boy doll, and I will be getting him so he can sit next to my Abbey.
Lagoona Blue
Lagoona Blue is the playset doll for this wave! However, I won't be talking about the playset, just the doll. And this Lagoona, oh boy she is PRETTY!! Lagoona has long yellow hair, with teal and pink streaks, styled mostly out, with a small ponytail in at the right. She has gorgeous pink lips, and soft makeup. Lagoona wears a pastel tie dye bikini top, with black ruffles and straps. She sports a matching skirt with drip patterns, black pleather ruffles and plastic pink rope-esque belt-cover piece. Lagoona's shoes match, being pink, and seemingly tied up with plastic textured to look like rope.
I personally love this Lagoona doll so much, and think she is so pretty. I am almost upset that she is a playset exclusive, as that just means that she will be more expensive for me to buy. I don't have any design complaints for her, it's a pretty perfect doll!
If you like playsets, then I'd give this one a buy JUST for the exclusive doll!! Lagoona is so pretty!
What Do You Think..?

Gen q here: Aside from the banger outfits on the new MH dolls do u prefer the designs of the dolls themselves from the original run or this new one? I personally loved how the pets used to look now they look too cutesy imo I miss when Hissette and Lagoona’s fish looked like y’know actually dangerous animals lol
For me it kind of depends? Like specific aspects I'd say I prefer G1 over G3, other aspects I prefer G3 over G1. Like the pets, I also agree with that, I'm not a fan of how cutesy the G3 pets look, especially with how many of them are just basic ass cats and dogs, or at least look like it? Like, G3 Count Fabulous is a cute thing sure but it doesn't compare to G1's spindly ass actually bat shaped creature that was Count Fabulous. Same goes for G3 vs G1 Chewlian, Neptuna, hell I was annoyed they initially replaced Hissette with that dog G3 signature Cleo came with?? That's so uncreative. I think Crescent and Shiver are the only pets from this Gen that I think look just as good/better than G1 in Shiver's case.
Anyway! Aside from pets lmao, like I said I think they have their own design strengths and weaknesses. Like, the fashion? I do love a lot of the designs for the G3 dolls but I do miss the darker colors and more intricate outfit pieces of G1. It's only within like, the past couple of months that I think G3 has finally hit it's stride and is starting to live up to the same level of thought and purpose G1 was on? And that's a whole other discussion to be had about the difference in their fashion ethos, I'm not getting into it right now but it's interesting, and most certainly not a "MH isn't goth anymore" thing lol. MH wasn't goth in the first place, but that's for another discussion lmao <3
And like, both gens have ugly designs, it's not like either of them is good or bad 100% of the time. Like I can't stand G3 Ghoulia's design, but also I can't stand Howleen's redesign from G1. In fact there's quite a bit of dolls from G1 that I would say are objectively bad, not as bad as G2, but compared to what it we knew it was capable of, some dolls just look lackluster. Both of them are very much capable of fumbling the bag lmao
G3 I think has the biggest design strengths when it comes to the variety of the dolls, cause you can not look me in the eyes and tell me G1 was better at body diversity, or diversity in general, when all the ghouls had the same stick thin ass body molds lmao. Obvs there were a couple of dolls with different heights and specific changes to their molds based on the monster they were, but G3 is just doing SOOO much better in terms of actual varied body diversity. I know Draculaura isn't actually chunky or anything but she's short and has a wide waist and thighs and her figure resembles mine and that makes me so happy. Abbey being fucking TALL and wide fits her so much better than the stick thin body she was confined to in G1. And Catty's upcoming G3 doll having a truly fat body mold?? G1 would NEVER lmao. All the ghouls have bodies that better reflect them in my opinion, they all don't look the exact same in the body shape department and that's wonderful.
Also like, the face sculpts vary based on the race of the characters now and that's amazing? Like, one look at G3 Venus' face sculpt and we immediately knew she was Black, that's not something you can say about G1 and I'm happy they're putting in that extra effort nowadays.
Anyway my point is: each Gen is better than one another in specific aspects, they're worse than the other one is in others. I love both Gens for what they are, I don't think I could say I prefer one over the other because they're both special to me. I got a bit off topic but like, yanno lmao

I LIKE THE G3 DOLLS!!!!! Clawdeen finally serving in that weekend get away two pack.
The media not so much, ofc like a G1 lover I don't like that they changed certain stuff(esp the ships ngl). I don't mind that they added the talisman plot thing, but some stuff doesn't make sense. Even if I was a newcomer certain things would make me scratch my head.
Draculaura being a witch is cool, actually it's a cool idea for monsters regardless of type learning to hone witchcraft from the natural magic in them.(except i guess science based monsters)
It makes no sense for literal monsters some who's existence itself is innately magic or magic derived to be scared of witchcraft. To say its "human-y" then describe the event that made them ban it was caused by another monster is??? If it were no human witches I'd get it, but witchcraft itself is huh?
I also like the idea of there being many werebeast, there were more than just two in the g1 series. I think its kinda whack to put them all under an umbrella of just being ruled by one. I think the werebeast having individuality amongst the species makes them special. Like there's common ground for camraderie but ultimately them all having their own traditions and rulers. It just feels like simplifying and funneling them into narrow categories. I liked in the (bo)original series they didn't seem to have any one ruler or president or anything, they were just like "fuck it, we out here" and just decided to exist outside of normies lmao.
I forgot to say that I have nothing nice to say about the live action movies, but it's still nasty spirited to make clawdeen lightskinned. Her new doll is a shade or two lighter than the original.
#monster high#monster high g3#monster high g1#I could never hate them for having the characters act their age#but i miss when they were cunty still idk#ghoulia used to serve MUG
