The way it's worded and considering who said it, makes it feel like the child is subtly implied to not have been theirs prior to being found.

Like the old and mostly forgotten law that the person who finds a lost child can become the new guardian if nobody shows up for them in thirty minutes. Like the five second rule of stray children, made before orphanages and foster care systems were commonplace.

It doesn't automatically exclude you from being a good parent but it is a highly questionable way of acquiring a child. It also depends on how long the kid was left unattended before adopting them.

Any time prior to being found is instantly re-contextualized as the kid being their kid just prior to being known as their child. Claimed based off of a destination rather than the journey they took to get there.

This might not have been the intended conclusion but it is a conclusion that can potentially be made.
