According to them, Sauron somehow became aware of Galadriel's existence when she touched Finrods dagger and took up his vow to find Sauron, thus he planted the seed of obsession in her that eventually consumes her in her quest to find him. I really don't understand why some ppl can't accept that Galadriel was never pure and wholly good and noble before ever meeting Sauron or even losing her brother. This twt has some decent theories but it's very obvious they're only basing everything they know on the show, and have never touched the books (or not read it very well).

I guess making Sauron out to be this one dimensional omipresent villain and Galadriel this 100% naive, innocent victim who only did bad things like indiscrimantly kill because she sees no humanity in uruks, and drag her party across the dark tundra, and turn down Valinor, and bring Sauron back because he made it so, makes for an interesting multi faceted villain and an interesting story? So that thanks to this darkness she has because of Sauron, she can be saved and all traces of her darkness will be purified by her savior husband and that is the role these theories predict for him to have? Because damsel in distress galadriel is really the main kind of vibe I'm getting from some of those theories where sauron is presented as being the one behind everything all along.

I mean Sauron himself said he couldn't see all the paths. He can't predict the future, only put some things in place so the future turns in his favor. That's literally what we saw him do in season 1 and 2.

There's no indication, in the books or the shows, that Sauron knew Galadriel before he met her. He probably vaguely heard of her because of her hair that inspired Fëanor and the creation of the Silmarils, but that's it ? If I'm not wrong Sauron didn't even care about the Silmarils himself, it was Morgoth's obsession, so why would have Sauron been obsessed with Galadriel before meeting her ?

Also how he could he know that Galadriel would inherit Finrod's dagger ? He didn't even know who he had caught, let alone who his sister was !

I just hate those theories that take all agency off Galadriel. "It wasn't her being drawn to darkness, it was Sauron all along". Yeah sure. Way to infantilize a grown woman, she's not responsible for any of her actions, it was the big bad guy ! And I'll say the same about Celebrimbor: people who reduce Celebrimbor and Galadriel as no more than victims of Sauron understand it all backwards imho. It takes away all the complexity of the story and of all the characters involved, and makes the Elves pass for flawless saints while it's not at all how Tolkien described them.

Sauron plants seeds yes, but he does it in a ground he knows to be fertile. He knew Celebrimbor had the ambition to make his own Silmarils, to outmatch Fëanor, so he just had to pull a few strings to convince Celebrimbor to work with him so he could reach that goal. Celebrimbor always had this ambition, but I guess Sauron planted that too ? C'mon... Celebrimbor himself admitted to Galadriel that he always knew Annatar wasn't who he claimed to be, and Galadriel admitted as much, so why do we keep seeing these discourses now ?

Making Sauron this genius evil mastermind who can predict everything and control everyone from a distance, even without meeting them would be very lazy, boring storytelling. And that's just not Tolkien.

you are right. Men are strangely united. When we look at other species a lot of the males can’t even be AROUND each other lol. I remember when I was a kid my parents had a big fish tank and they always used to explain to me that we couldn’t have 2 male Bettas in the same tank as they’d just fight each other.

I think I’ve just come up with a theory on why men hate us so much, and it’s nothing to do with womb envy like some radfems theorise. I think it’s a lot simpler than that. I think they started to resent us because they have wayyyy higher sex drives than we do, to the point where many men’s lives purely revolve around sex, to the point where they are utterly obsessed with women, and it pissed them off that we’re not as horny as they are because that gives us more freedom and independence. We’re not controlled by our urges to the same extent as they are. I think they know their horniness clouds their judgement and makes them more irrational. You can even see this be demonstrated in modern times when they tweet stuff like “If women didn’t have vaginas we’d be hunting them for sport”. this is of course disgustingly offensive and misogynistic, but I find it slightly hilarious in a way that he basically just admitted he hates women but he’s so controlled by his urges like a lower life form that he’s still drawn to us

I’m assuming at some point in human history men started to collectively realise they were all united by their resentment towards women and started to slowly impose more and more control over women while teaching their sons to do the same. and eventually religion became a thing, allowing patriarchy to spread easily around the world (which is, I think, one of the reasons why religion was developed in the first place). Once Holy Texts like the Bible came into existence, I think that is truly when misogyny became entrenched forever because now entire populations can be more easily brainwashed into hating women, even women themselves! Just teach them from the moment they were born that they were created from Adam’s rib.

I feel like this would explain so many of the insults they hurl at women because it’s so obvious that they’re projecting.

“Women only exist for sex” says the guy whose thoughts revolve only around how he will get his next opportunity to have sex, the same guy who changes his entire personality to suit the new woman he just met because he’s empty inside and his only purpose in life is to get laid so he’s more than happy not to be true to himself for it

“Women are so emotional” says the incel who’s planning a school shooting spree in his head because a girl rejected him

“Women are sluts and whores” say members of the gender who admit they’d sleep with any woman who approached them

“Women are nothing without men - they cry every day about the thought of not getting married one day” lol I thought there was a male loneliness epidemic? There’s literally incels threatening to kill themselves if women don’t have sex with them?

So yeah, I think maybe they’ve developed psychological issues from constantly having to address the fact that they’re more obsessed with us than we are with them and they don’t have the emotional intelligence and empathy required (whether from nature or nurture I do not know) to deal with it in a rational way. And now that religion is a thing patriarchy is truly a deep-rooted disease.

Human beings are so susceptible to propaganda and now we just have state-sponsored religious propaganda out there preaching the inferiority of women. So I feel like even a guy who is somehow sexually satisfied (I feel like this is rare because they always want more than they have, but let’s just pretend for a second) could still be a misogynist because he’s been raised hearing these misogynist religious principles.

I learned of a Tiktok 'trend' recently of men taking their female family members, friends, partners etc out on a lovely nature walk, then starting to record and saying "I bet nobody would be able to hear you scream here."

There is not ONE video that the woman laughs in, even when they explain the prank. Not one. For a sex who have been socialised to nervously laugh when uncomfortable, not one of them found it funny. It was mothers who stopped dead in their tracks, their eyes filled with fear. It was girlfriends who started running away in fear, to the laughing taunts of "it was just a joke come back!!!!!". It was sisters who stared these men down, unable to process what this male had said to them.

First of all, the timing is sociopathic. It's not an accident. With Nick "we control your bodies b*tch" Fuentes doing a monologue that undeniably sunk into the psyches of most men, AND the general political landscape for women atm, they feel joy and pleasure at unabashedly making their female friends and family suffer. They giggle at the prospect of making them fear for their life, and they film it for other men to get off on.

Moids continually stun me. After hundreds of thousands of years of oppression you'd think I would understand and expect it, but they reach new heights every time I blink. Deep down, I'm just a hopeful girl who sees men as humans. I try not to assume they're beyond saving, but they're making it harder to believe. They just seem wired for pain and suffering and destruction.

My heart bleeds for the women and girls in places where they have full reign. These demons won't stop until they have raped and destroyed the planet in pursuit of more intense porn to feel a sliver of the emotion women possess.

Oh! I nearly forgot, but can I ask the significance of this panel?

It comes directly after Dee explains that he can’t come and see her from the future whenever he wants. (Which is one of my favorite moments where Dee’s true eldritch horror leaks in to the story), so I assume it’s… sort of a metaphor? How Emily finds herself at the foot of something she realizes is much, much bigger than she contemplated before?

(Also, I just wanted to compliment you for this panel)

(The first time I saw it, I imagined Dee was showing her this on purpose, time traveling from sometime the same day to really show her what it would be like. An object lesson.

The second time I saw it, I started to wonder

Because Dee himself doesn’t really look aware of what is going on behind him.

And maybe, just maybe, this one moment in time has become the only moment that Dee allows himself to come back to to see Emily, the one moment where he can get lost in the crowd with every other time he came back to look. The one moment where he’s explaining why he can’t come back.

Just… Makes me sad, and I wanted to say thank you for that too, because I love these characters and the story they tell, the sweet and bitter.)

I love your reading of that Uluru panel!! I think I probably didn’t intend anything that deep with it; these time skip montage style chapters are pretty choppy and I’m usually trying to figure out a way to touch on all these brief scenes or moments that I don’t want to spend a whole chapter on for whatever reason, and arrange them in a way where the cuts aren’t too hideously abrupt. For visual reasons I try to contrast different locations and not put 2 dialogue heavy moments directly next to each other. Mood wise, I don’t really want to cut from something serious and angsty to something that’s a complete backflip on that. I also sometimes just feel like drawing a nice landscape and hope it achieves my aims on these fronts haha.

I think also here I was trying to move from that final sentence, “The present is more than enough”, to demonstrating them appreciating having that present together - being able to go do cool and enriching stuff, something not completely mundane but not completely fantastical either. (I mean... sightseeing within your own country is extremely normal, but going to Uluru from Melbourne... not a convenient day trip, since it’s 2000km; 25 hour solid driving, or you can fly in a few hours but I think you have to go via Sydney, so that makes it take at least twice as long I guess. Not that it's specified how long they're there for. I haven’t been myself but I’d love to one day...)

So, yeah!! More of a mechanical/compositional rationale than an intentional metaphor, but I think your reading makes complete sense and actually improves the page! (Sometimes I do intend visual metaphors... but sometimes they’re just happy accidents.)

And thanks for the compliment re the crowd of Dees!! I also love the moments I can lean into his eldritch qualities... they’re sadly few and far between but maybe that helps them be more surprising?? Definitely your first reading was what I intended, that he zigzagged back pretty quickly, probably even from within the conversation, but there is an inherent ambiguity to Dee’s time travelling where unless I take pains to spell it out, there really is no way to know when he’s come from. Even if he can be assumed to be taking every interaction chronologically, there’s no knowing how much time has passed for him between each visit. I don’t even know how to estimate how long his experience of time is, when he’s zigzagging back so densely all the time; even the number of living things on Earth any moment is an incomprehensibly mind-boggling number. That eldritch horror again!

Truth be told I hadn’t thought of him coming back to this moment and blending in with the crowd for the rest of the future ;_; but that’s so real... he could well be, the sad sack...

I had a different sillier thought from slightly misreading your question on first pass, which is that maybe he doesn’t originally know what’s going on behind him, but then later on as he’s just going about his business he goes “oh I know exactly how to punctuate that thing I said earlier!!!” and then does it as an afterthought. Oh to have the ability to add the things you wish you’d said to an earlier conversation 😂

maybe its just growing up in a small conservative town, but does anyone else feel really isolated from their own sense queerness? idk i just sometimes feel like such an outsider to the whole history and culture of queerness, and despite being queer myself, its hard to feel a sense of true belonging after having been so removed from it. everything i learn about queer history feels so new to me, and yet i feel sad and ashamed that it took me this long to learn.

like. cards on the table: at first, i thought, hey, maybe the framing and recounting of the predstrogen situation is (understandably) biased because this seems really fucking weird, even for tumblr.

but, for real, it does just look like a series of repeated mass-reports drew staff attention to her and inevitably got her accounts flattened for entirely normal edge-case posting.

like, repeatedly, mass-reports happened, she'd appeal and get it reversed, and then it'd happen again, until finally it stuck. oh boy, did it stick! permanent lifetime ban.

the "death threats" that got her banned were cartoon-violence grumblings (responding to getting stung by bad-faith mass reporting) and the "harassment" seems to have just been pointing out specific user accounts that were needling her or outright harassing her. neither are against rules unless you're taking a bizarrely bad-faith reading of things.

and of course, all of this was her direct response to repeatedly being falsely reported and having to wade through the drawn-out, unresponsive appeals process while far worse content and accounts remained untouched, despite being reported.

also there was the whole "incredibly obvious and malicious rape/pedo-jacketing mass-anon disinfo campaign" run against her.

deeply uncomfortable that the CEO of tumblr took to posting about the mean anon threats he was getting about the situation, but didn't say a peep about the *genuinely malicious* threats and harassment predstrogen was getting. like. that's not worth a quick callout, lil buddy? you can't see why people are pissed?
