Story Idea: Dark!Serenity - Ep 33 Rewrite
I've been wondering for a while now if there are others who've asked themselves: how would a Dark!Serenity, the inverse to the usual Dark!Endymion, story go? How would it work? Like, I don't mean like an entire role swap like Kyralih's "Cardinal King" series over on Ao3, or the short time where Usagi is called Wicked Lady in BeeJ88's fic "A Twist in Time" that can be found on both FFN and Ao3, but like "instead of Tux's identity being known or found out, the DK injure and kidnap SM to brainwash her to their side". The reason being that she seems to be the powerhouse/finisher. Kinda like how "Dark Rabbit" by Sidus_Spei attempted it but differently.
I think the perfect episode for that happening, in regards to the 90's anime since I haven't seen Crystal or read the manga, would be when Venus arrives. She's late to the party and the girls have since fallen unconscious when she makes Kun drop the barrier before they're crushed. Meanwhile, Tux has gotten 'Moon' down but he still feels she's in danger and finds that a strange device is attached to 'her', it must be draining 'her' energy if not 'her' life, with slots that he just knows are meant for the crystals in his possession. Does he save 'her' by relinquishing his crystals or keep them and let 'her' die? The choice is obvious. Only thing is, once the crystals are in place and the device shuts down, the sense of danger dies unknowing that V has saved the day, 'she' attacks him as in the episode but instead of Zoi revealing the deception he simply mocks the man for his sentimentality and falling for 'her team's' trap before booking it back to Kunz; Tux's too shocked, betrayed and hurt to follow. Zoi's exultant (they have them all!) when he comes upon the Senshi with Kun and V fighting close by and gets the bright idea to nab Moon. What better way to keep the two sides from allying with one another against them than to make the 'deception', Moon is Tux's enemy, a 'reality'? How sweet would it be, the Senshi trying their hardest to get their leader, the one who's the strongest magically, back while trying to defend her from Tux who'll want his crystals back, thus 'proving' Moon was wrong about him, while also trying stop their youma from gathering more energy until they figured out how to reform the Nijizuishou into the Ginzuishou? Moon fights as long and hard as she can but then Kun sees a strange reaction with the Nijizuishou, they seem to be siphoning away Moon's power. So Beryl fashions a collar or belt of the Nijizuishou to put around Moon's neck or waist, as an experiment, and lo and behold! She finally succumbs. Thing is, since her whole life's gotta go, not to mention she hadn't been outed as the Princess, she's given the name "Rin" meaning "a cold, severe and dignified person" when 'playing civilian' and "New Moon" instead of Sailor Moon as a play on words that she's a more 'improved' version of SM to which is also when said moon is dark in the sky and acts more like Serenity than Usagi (like the Generals, she fully believes she's been a warrior of the DK all her life) due to the suppressed memories of her past life not being inhibited or overwritten/overwhelmed by her current life anymore. Not to mention Usagi's family. Will they be made to forget, with possibly the extra angst of it being irreversible, be told who their missing family member is and why she's missing and run the risk of their doing something drastic in their attempts to get her back, or will the Senshi have to bear the guilt of knowing her possible whereabouts and can say nothing as her family frantically tries to find her and get so hopeful when someone calls in saying they 'spotted' her but it's always 'Rin', a mature young lady, she's nothing like Usagi and Usagi herself isn't that good an actress, with two protective older brothers who just so happens to be Usagi's doppelganger, just going about her life's business? And what about Mamoru? He doesn't know Moon is Odango and the Senshi obviously aren't gonna tell him; they haven't had their Elevator Chat, their Moment of Bonding or Identity Revelations. He sees 'Rin' and her brothers around but despite "everyone", the woman and said brothers too, and his own logic, not to mention 'Rin's' own personality and bearing, telling him otherwise he just can't shake the feeling that 'Rin' is Odango. So? How do you think the story would go from there? If I've inspired you, and you don't have to use it word for word if you've thought of something better, or only use the 90's anime when writing, please let me know by leaving a note with a title, your penname and where to find it. I'd like to see how you try to conclude such a story-line. That is, will it have a good ending or a bad one?

You know, I have been a yaoi fanatic addict since the late 90s. I was like 13 then and thought I would try my hand at a Digimon shounen ai fanfic after a year or two of writing (mostly) straight Sailor Moon fics. I was incredibly nervous. Shounen ai was not popular like it is now. People were way less accepting. At that very young age, a homophobe completely ripped my fics apart bit by bit, along with my confidence over their hate. I was so hurt.. also torn about my own sexuality .
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh friend :( Thank you so much for sharing this with me. I hate that that happened to you. It’s such a horrible side of the internet. I completely agree, though, that I think their mental health must just be a disaster. I can’t imagine the kind of headspace I would have to be in to spend this amount of time and effort just to anonymously yell slurs at people…in both of our cases. I joke, but I was kind of happy for a little while when I didn’t hear from my obsessive little weirdo for a few years - I thought (hoped) they might’ve escaped from that hate spiral they’d been in. It’s horrible that you were harassed across platforms, ah man. I definitely also grew tougher skin and learned to accept myself as I am, but I also look back on myself with much kinder eyes and just sort of wonder how people can be so cruel to children. I wonder if they remember what being a child was like.
But I digress - this was an incredibly kind, heartfelt message to receive. I read it just before midnight, my time, and something about that and the new year settled something in me - so thank you. It felt like a really touching moment on my end. Thank you so much, friend, I love that reading my works makes you feel bright. That’s such a lovely thing to say. And if their harsh words gave you writer’s block, then I hope mine do the opposite and give you all the inspiration rushing in - I admire the kindness it took to take the time to write this to me, and your spirit has come across really strongly, just here. I think it’s hard not to admire it. At the very least, it speaks to your prose that in just this little tumblr ask, you’ve got me contemplative and emotional. Thank you very much :) <3

I normally come here for the Jonsa content but you have me wanting to bing Inuyasha now lol. It's been years. First Ballad of Fallen Angels (imo visually one of the best anime episodes ever) and now Inuyasha. Do you have a fav anime?/ which are your fav animes? Whichever question fits best.
Well, considering my icon is from Sailor Moon (though likely unrecognizable, it's Lethe and Mnemosyne from the manga) and my ao3 name is a reference to Cowboy Bebop, those are probably some answers to that question!
I won't say that Cowboy Bebop is my favorite, though. I loved it a lot and obviously it had an impact on me since 2 of my online handles have been references to it. I also loved it's sister show Samurai Champloo.
Tumblr media
Sailor Moon was the first anime I got into. I even ran a Sailor Mars fan page back when I was a baby child messing around on geocities (was it geocities? I don't remember. I also wrote fanfic that I never posted lol). Sailor Moon remains something I am intensely nostalgic about. I even put the newest manga editions on my Christmas list (because I don't own them anymore because I went through a phase where I was "too cool" for everything and got rid of all my anime/manga and a lot of my old fantasy books and I regret it so hard because I spent so much time and carefully saved allowances to buy each and every one. Ugh.) I reblog Sailor Moon the most because the aesthetic is everything to me. I love 90s anime aesthetics.
Tumblr media
I think, though, in my heart of hearts, it's Inuyasha that's my favorite. I was so obsessed with it. I would tape every episode when it aired on Adult Swim (I wasn't allowed to stay up that late) and then I'd watch it the next day when I got home. Inuyasha is what truly introduced me to fanfic. I learned to play some of the music on the piano. I spent hours designing Inuyasha bookmarks to print and computer wallpapers and screensavers... I didn't write fic for it though, weirdly.
Anyway, I'm rambling. There's so much that I watched as a kid and I could go on and on even more, but I won't. Alas, I stopped watching anime in high school and the only ones I've watched since have been FMA: Brotherhood (loved it) and I watched about two seasons of Attack on Titan but then I had to wait for new ones and just never went back.

A Best Friend's Secret
Fandom: Sailor Moon
Relationship: Naru Osaka and Usagi Tsukino
Words: 1,535
Summary: Naru Osaka was Usagi Tsukino's childhood friend. They did everything together. But lately, they seem to have grown apart. Naru knows that Usagi belongs to a different world than hers. She knows she can't be a part of it but she just wants to help her best friend.
A/N: Oh geez, how long has it been since I've posted a fanfic. It seems I've lost my motivation over the past year.
Anyways, I've been rewatching the Sailor Moon 90s anime as well as re reading the manga and I have a lot of thoughts about Naru Osaka. I think she's quite underrated and its a shame how she was slowly phased out in both the anime and the manga. She was Usagi's best friend before she became Sailor Moon. Also I can't stop thinking about how its implied that she may know that Usagi is Sailor Moon. She at least knows that there's something going on with Usagi.
This fic takes place in the manga canon. The first part takes place during Act 18, in that scene where Naru tries to cheer up Usagi by taking her to the AV room. The second part takes place during Act 52. Naru is shown in one panel having lunch with Usagi, Haruka, and Michiru and that's her only appearence in the Stars arc. The third part takes place in the future, after Usagi is crowned Neo Queen Serenity. I like to think that Naru had a place in Neo Queen Serenity's court for always being there for her when she was Usagi Tsukino.

Tumblr media
Naru knew that Usagi had been acting differently. She hadn’t been as cheerful and always seemed to be worrying about something. Whenever Naru offered to walk home with Usagi, or watch a movie together, she always declined, saying this was busy. Naru knew that something was up, it had to be. Usagi usually had more free time on her hands - even if there was homework the next day, or a test coming up, Usagi couldn’t resist the urge to get some ice cream or watch a movie. But now, it seemed she had no time. It couldn’t be that she suddenly decided to get serious about her studies. No, there was something else going on - something larger than life itself. Naru could sense it, Usagi was her best friend after all.
She saw Usagi standing by the window, seemingly worried about something. Her two friends, Ami and Makoto, hadn’t come to school for quite a while now. Naru decided that Usagi needed some cheering up.
“Usagi”, she hugged her from behind. “Come on, its lunch time. Lets go to the AV room and watch a video while we eat. I got a really good one.”
Usagi just went along with her. Umino got out a tape, he said he had the hardest time getting it. It was about channeling. Usagi had never heard of it. Umino explained, channeling was when someone from another dimension or another plane sends a message through a channeler. He put on the video, and the trio sat back and watched. A woman was on the TV. She had light brown hair tied in a bun with a golden ribbon, brown eyes, and was wearing a golden sleeveless top along with a red skirt. She also wore black earrings - something about them seemed strange. She was introduced as the world famous channeler, Miss Calaveras. She sat on a chair, eyes closed, and with a strange aura around her. When she spoke, a male voice came out of her mouth. It claimed to belong to Rubeus of the Black Moon. As soon as those words were uttered, Usagi froze in place. Rubeus claimed to guide the people of the Earth along the right path.
“What is this?” Usagi said out loud. “They’re lying! They are the enemy!”
Umino tried to calm her down, saying that the ones who send these messages don’t normally have physical bodies. But Usagi ran out of the room.
“I figured a long time ago… that there’s something about Usagi that makes her different” Naru thought to herself. “There’s another world she belongs to, one that I’ll never be a part of. But I still wish I could help her… Usagi…”
Naru tried to think back to when Usagi started acting differently. She remembered she’d gotten attacked by that monster that took her mother’s place that day. And then someone had come to save her…. someone calling herself Sailor Moon….. someone who looked and sounded a lot like Usagi.
Could Usagi be Sailor Moon? Is that why she was acting so distant lately? Is that why she seemed worried a lot of the time?
Naru knew that strange things had been happening around Tokyo. There were reports of UFO sightings. Could they have something to do with Sailor Moon?
Naru knew one thing. Whether Usagi was Sailor Moon or not, she lived in a different world. Naru feared this was the beginning of the growing distance between her and Usagi.
***
Two years passed. Naru was now in high school. She was doing as well as ever in academics. She, Yumiko, and Kuri had grown closer. By now, the distance between Naru and Usagi had grown. Usagi no longer spoke to her beyond a simple “hi”. She was always seen with four girls - Ami Mizuno, Rei Hino, Makoto Kino, and Minako Aino. Rei wasn’t in the same school as them. She was attending T. A Girls Private Academy. How Usagi had gotten close to her was beyond Naru. But Rei was pretty, with her sleek black hair, her deep purple eyes, and her mysterious mannerisms. Naru knew that Usagi always had a thing for mysterious girls. She was sometimes seen with two other girls as well, Haruka Tenoh and Michiru Kaioh. They were famous in their school for their elegant nature. Naru wondered how Usagi got to know them.
“Hey Usagi,” Naru said one day. “Do you want to have lunch together?”
“Oh, sure Naru-chan,” Usagi replied. “I’ll invite Haruka-san and Michiru-san too. Is that alright?”
“Yeah, I’d love to get to know them,” Naru replied.
So that day, she sat together with Usagi, Haruka, and Michiru for lunch. Usagi introduced Haruka and Michiru to her. They got on well. But Naru noticed Usagi seemed to talk more to Haruka and Michiru than to her. Once, off handedly, she mentioned someone called Galaxia.
“Galaxia?” Naru asked. “Who’s that?”
Usagi immediately caught herself.
“Ah, no one,” said Usagi. “No one for you to worry about.”
Naru knew Usagi was lying. There was definitely something. And besides, she noticed that Ami and Makoto had not shown up at school that day. Maybe they were sick, or maybe something else happened to them.
Naru decided that she would talk to Usagi about everything. She needed to put the turmoil in her heart at rest.
“Usagi, can we meet after school?" Naru asked. "There's something I want to talk about."
"Oh, sure, Naru-chan," Usagi replied.
The bell rang, indicating the end of school. Usagi and Naru walked together.
“What did you want to talk about, Naru-chan?” Usagi asked.
“Usagi, are you alright?” asked Naru.
“What? Of course I am.”
“No, are you really alright?”
“What do you mean?”
“Usagi, I debated on talking to you about this, but I know something is going on. Ami-san and Makoto-san haven’t shown up at school today. Did something happen to them?”
“Oh…. they’re sick in bed, ahahahaha.”
“Usagi, I’ve known for a while that you live in a different world, a world that I can’t be a part of.”
“Naru-chan, what are you talking about?”
Naru mustered up all her courage to ask this question.
“You’re Sailor Moon, aren’t you?”
Usagi’s expression suddenly changed. It was as if she was hit by a thunder bolt.
“Ah…. what are you talking about? There’s no way I can be Sailor Moon.”
“You look like her, sound like her… you have the exact same hairstyle.”
Usagi went quiet.
“How long have you known?” she asked.
“Two years. I remember the day Sailor Moon first appeared. I was attacked by a monster pretending to be my mother. And Sailor Moon came to save me. I knew she sounded familiar but I wasn’t sure then. But now, I think there’s no doubt about it.”
Usagi did not say anything. Her expression remained blank.
“Usagi, I don’t have powers like you or the other Sailor Guardians. I know I cannot fight enemies like you do. But if there’s anything you need to talk about, you can come to me. I’ll help you in any way I can. I know we don’t talk that much anymore but you’ve been my best friend from childhood. I still care about you. So please…”
“Naru-chan…”
Usagi leaned forward and hugged her. Naru held her shoulders. The remained like that for a while.
“So, this Galaxia you mentioned…” Naru began.
“She’s a new enemy. And more powerful than any enemy I’ve faced. She killed two of my fellow Sailor Guardians, Mercury and Jupiter… my precious friends.”
Tears fell out of Usagi’s eyes. She hugged Naru again. Naru just let her cry.
“It’ll be alright” Naru said. “You’ll get through this too. You’ve always defeated your enemies. You’ll defeat Galaxia too, whoever she is.”
Usagi wiped her tears.
“Thank you, Naru-chan” she said. “And, can you do me a favour?”
“Anything at all.”
“Please don’t tell anyone that I’m Sailor Moon. Keep my identity a secret.”
“I won’t tell a soul.”
“Thank you, Naru-chan. You’re the best friend ever.”
Usagi and Naru then went home, on their seperate ways. Naru felt relieved. The burden on her heart for two years had been lifted. She knew now that Usagi was indeed Sailor Moon. And she would not tell anyone about it. It was a best friend’s secret.
***
Usagi was crowned Neo Queen Serenity and would rule over Earth with her husband, King Endymion. The four Sailor Guardians would protect her and the Earth. But there was another important person at her coronation ceremony - Naru Osaka, her childhood friend. Naru had been given a special place at Neo Queen Serenity's Court for always being there for her. And as her childhood friend, she couldn't be more proud. She had stuck with her when she was clumsy, a crybaby, always late to school, and always got the worst grades. She had stuck with her when she revealed her identity as Sailor Moon and told her about the enemies she had to fight and her role to protect the Earth. She had stuck with her in all her good and bad times. There was no one else who deserved this honour better than Naru Osaka, the childhood friend of Neo Queen Serenity.

Bonus Question Answers! (anime heat 3)
I asked a silly question! You gave me incredible answers. SO VERY MANY INCREDIBLE ANSWERS. If yours is listed below, you’ve earned an entry in a random draw to win a GIFTENING liveblog OF YOUR CHOICE
SURPRISE EVERYONE WHO ANSWERED THIS ONE GETS AN ENTRY (with extra entry if you pulled a specific line). This has been such a struggle for me for the past ... you know, million years or something, and each of you made me feel so good, thank you. ♥
Q: This is reaching back into the memory a bit, I know, but what's your favourite of my fanfic? (BONUS BONUS ENTRY if you pull a specific line!)
*  i cannot remember a specific line off the top of my head but i remember the post-S series dealing with usagi's trauma from pharaoh 90 (sound of silence?) was a gut punch and a half --  anewconstellation
~~
* "Blue shirt. Pearl buttons." I think this was the first time I read you writing the Outers, particularly Neptune and Uranus, and, uh, holy shit. Absolutely note-perfect dialogue and dynamic, particularly for that period of Sailor Moon S when Michiru and Haruka used intimacy of speech and gesture as an instrument of distancing and obfuscation (of their goals to the Inners, of their hearts to themselves and to each other, of the heli-pad to the staff at Mugen Academy, etc). It was so clear, and so clearly *them* that I could actually hear the intonations of their respective seiyuu. And then to deploy such spot-on character elements in combination with the stakes and the maturity the anime never reached for, my WORD, are you trying to kill me??? The pacing, the restraint! What an absolute gift. You're a wonder. (also your drabbles are fuckin peerless, and the BTL concept is such a clever series framework)  -- @rasiqra-revulva
~~
*  This was so hard to pick from, but I finally settled on "Cause and Affect" - it's such a heartbreaking story, but the juxtaposition between the clinical lines of information from the computer to the memories Ami is dealing with to the horror of the visuals around her... it's so bright and sharp and PRESENT.  It keeps me in the story, that mix of tones and feelings.  And the final line?  Perfection.  "Number of regrets: none"  What an amazing take on Ami and how she processes information and how she deals with the situation she is in.  I still get chills up my back when I read the story.  -- @amberlilly
~~
*  I love your Between the Lines series, it's how I found your Tumblr and liveblogs back in the day -- @amboato
~~
*  Author Alert.  “So never, ever, going to live this down.” -- @crunchbuttsteak
~~
*  "Of her word" quote "But for all that, it remained sand. Rei erased it with one swipe."  -- Dei
~~
*  Between The Lines. Adding further character/emotional depth to canon is YES PLZ. I really liked the whole idea of Usagi having trauma post-Pharaoh 90 and all the chapters that hit on that. On a less serious note Chibs' circus-related PTSD and freaking out when Hotaru wants to go to the circus kills me every time. ("But your precious dreams Hotaru-chan!")  -- forgottenfae
~~
*  This is probably the obvious choice, but "The Sounds of The Silence" has haunted me in all the best ways since I first read it. The way you write Rei, Usagi, and Rei and Usagi hits me right in the heart every time. This particular fic, with Usagi so traumatized, and Rei being as soft and gentle as Usagi needs, will always stick with me. I pulled up the fic to try and narrow down a single line, and ultimately there's no real debate. "She would never stop trying to do more, but for now, she simply did this." That line is, at its core, the essence of Rei Hino. And it is perfection.  -- gatorsandglitter
~~
*  I don't expect this to win at all, just sharing,, but I just super fondly remembered the goggles and all the amazing content, meta, and fic those inspired, both from you and others  -- @goosebytrade
~~
*  "You Win or You Die"  my favorite line is "She and Rei WOULD have The Moment, they WOULD get their thousand years of bliss, and they WOULD be making out after all this was over. Like, SO HARD."  -- @i-needa-nap-please
~~
*  I'm always really bad at answering questions like this because my mind has pretty much become a goldfish in my old age and I have a hard time remembering specific fics; it all sort of starts to jumble up in my brain and things get lost. But I have always loved reading your writing, it's what got me onto this godforsaken website in the first place -- it was just before Crystal dropped, and we were all foolishly full of hope and excitement, and you were going through the Moon Pride video and waxing poetic about the FRIENDSHIPS and I was like, "YES! Finally! Someone who understands why I love this stupid kids' show!" I think I sent you an ask saying this before, (but who knows if you ever got it, Tumblrs being what they are - indifferent) but I tried reading fanfic and even published novels based on properties, like the Buffy novels and Star Trek and Star Wars novels, for a long time, and mostly found it frustrating and annoying and just... wrong. It always had this awkwardness and clunkiness to it that didn't do anything for me and just constantly screamed "THIS IS A FANFIC IT IS NOT REAL WRITING" at me. Didn't like it. But, I liked yours. Yours didn't feel awkward or clunky. You have never written any sentences like, "Rei watched the blonde stand up" where "the blonde" is Minako, and I don't know why fanfic writers think that calling characters "the blonde" or "the redhead" or whatever is sexy or cute but it ain't (sorry, pet peeve tangent). So, when you were writing stuff more, I would read it like it was going out of style, and you led me to Doc's writing, which had the same natural, "this is real writing" quality, and I loved hers, too. Anyway, my favorites of yours have always been the Between the Lines stuff. I just love the "hidden" moments that we didn't get to see. The Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead bits of Sailor Moon (speaking of fanfic that actually works) that bring so much depth to characters we know and love already or to characters we see only briefly. Also, the Shadow Senshi, because FUCK. Just... Kill Me. In any event, I know that writing has been difficult for you of late, and I know how that feels, so I hope that people who are actually able to answer this question have given you some places to go and draw strength from so that it can become part of your life again. TBH, I've been using the bonus questions on your Giftening surveys and Doc's 8 Days surveys as an excuse to try doing some small bits of quick, no pressure, nobody's gonna see it unless you or Doc actually LIKE it, don't think about it writing, and it has been helpful. I hope you can find something that gives you the same opportunity. Now that I've written you a novel that doesn't even answer the question you asked (goldfish, remember? *sigh*), have a gorgeous Tuesday!  -- @incorrecttact
~~
*  The one with Pluto and Queen Serenity, where Serenity is selfish in a very Usagi way, but her arrogance combined with that selfishness makes it a fatal flaw? I liked that one a lot. -- Jules
~~
*  the bit you wrote to 'fill in' a gap for why during r did mamoru act like a distant jerk. My favourite parts were Rei coming to see the same dream, and despite being the one to have the biggest reason to believe in these kinds of prophetic visions, Rei still doesn't believe fate is set in stone. -- just... a fan. a well-baked one
~~
*  Make It To New Year's -- @kaleidodreams
~~
*  ahhh, where is a link to all of your fanfic? It's the series you started after S, with Rei comforting Usagi, because like you I was let down by the fact that they never followed up on what Usagi saw, or even how she dealt, with the end of S. runner up: the one where Usagi is about to give birth because everything you write with Rei and Usagi is amazing. -- kari
~~
*  There was a drabble/draft/something that you used one of my prompts for, and I prompted you with Usagi and Rei, but you did it from Luna's perspective and THAT WAS SO UNEXPECTED and it turned out SO GOOD cause like!!!!!! You made Sailor Moon both someone Luna cares for, because still the legacy of the moon, and someone utterly discouraging for her because *this should not be*, and wow what a way to make it both about Usagi herself and about her powers.  -- katrani
~~
*  I love the btl fics, they fill in the missing gaps, add depth to the story, and sometimes smooth over things (SuperS) when canon is just...blah. One line I really liked was: “I was listening, at first, but then I started thinking about how hungry I was, and how a pork bun would be really good right now, and then I wondered what makes a thing a bun, and like, if you put ANYTHING in a bun, does it become a Thing-Bun, so could you make a bun out of another bun and would it be a Bun Bun, and wouldn’t that be the greatest thing to– Rei?” It's a great run-on, stream of thought sentence that just really catches Usagi's voice, is hilarious, and such a natural progression. -- @kumeko
~~
*  “HUG,” Usagi demanded again, because dammit, she’d been promised a hug and SOMEONE was going to deliver. (The one where Michiru has the hiccups. Because it's fun HaruMichi stuff, because it weaponises Usagi in a useful way, because it manages to (gently) make fun of both perfect!Michiru and saint!Usagi without being mean to either character, and also because I get hiccups a lot and I haaaaate them.) -- nerdy-flutterings
~~
*  I can't remember a specific fic, but I LOVE your Shadow Senshi headcanons and they're the main reason I started writing my own Shadow Senshi stories. -- @notesfromtheidiotbox
~~
*  The Figuarts saga is the Sailor Moon fic I never knew I needed -- Raye
~~
*  Special Delivery is a delight. So much Rei Certainty (that ends up being misplaced). So much Usagi being The Most Usagi About Pregnancy. So much Comedic Hijinks, because why the hell WOULDN’T ‘the Senshi get blindsided when Usagi goes into labor’ end up going full screwball? There’s a lot of great lines there (Rei’s theory about Chibs taking control of the Gate of Time and manipulating things is fantastic, as is the ending,) but my favorite is definitely “Rei Hino if I give birth to my daughter on the side of the road I swear I will go back in time and tear all the pages out of your favorite coloring book! [...] I’ll break the crayons too, Rei-chan!” Delightfully specific and childish, especially since Usagi sticks with it, and that particular brand of comic specificity is definitely a highlight of yours. -- Regalli
~~
*  Fire on Mountain!!! When I got to “Her voice was deeper than most expected when facing the certainty of her. It was rough, sandpaper running over cherry. She’d been a singer, once. Nobody would have believed her.” I was like oh. OH! -- Sasha
~~
*  My favorite of your fanfic, one one of the first I read is 'Hard to Break'. And my absolute favorite line is Usagi's panic when Minako tries to smoke: "Minako who was almost certainly dying, the cigarette had spread its evil and killed her instantly oh god."  -- @shavedjudomonkey
~~
*  Tonight Ami would grieve, and wish she understood why.'  This Between the Lines about Ami getting her mini computer both haunts me and brings tears to my eyes.  -- @shonasof
~~
*  I can't remember the title, but it's the one where Minako realizes that Rei's been writing Sailor V fanfic under the name Red Bow -- Somariel
~~
*  You would think Mako-chan's Happy Ending, but nope, this one goes to Hard to Break (although I had to look up the exact name.) This thing is filled with such great lines. How am I supposed to pick out one? "[Watch out, boys,]" Minako said in smooth and entirely unnecessary English. "[Lady Super Cool is on the prowl.]" -- Ultrace
~~
*  I forget the title, but it's the 'last senshi standing' fic where Ami is reflecting on the battle that took the others from her. Detatched and cold as she analyzes Rei Minako and Mako and finally Usagi's death with a medical efficiency, going through her Visors readout and then reflecting that the clinical words were nothing compared to what she'd actually seen. following up the method of death of the senshi with a statistic in relation to her friendship with the girl. Number of milkshakes shared, number of conversations lasting well into the night, number of hugs, number of smiles that brightened the darkest of moods. Describing how Rei's heart was pulped in a monster's grip, Minako's once beautiful face smashed against the rocks, Mako's lightning that outlived its mistress as she and Usagi ran off, and then finally that one last attempt to protect Usagi failing as 'Cervical Fracture' flashes on her visor. And From there she just... accepts death. sitting beside where Usagi had fallen and waiting for the end. it's dark af but it's the first one that always comes to mind when i think about ur fics :>  -- Vega
~~
*  I am extremely predictable here with two of my choices, as you know that I am obsessed with Fire on the Mountain and Blue Shirt, two things you wrote when you "definitely couldn't write" (Sidenote: My new year's resolution is to be harder on your about writing) We all know why I love blue shirt, it's basically an underhand pitch to the face for me, but Fire on the Mountain has a quality of regret and longing that I really connected with, something that really struck me in a way that was powerful. It's different from a lot of your inners work, and I think about Mina posing as Rei, in her disguise magic in the woods, and all the reasons why, fairly often. Something that MAY come as a surprise to you, is I really wish we got more ofyour overwatch stuff, and maybe I'll just keep asking for this for my birthday for the rest of our natural lives, but I think of like, the one you wrote on 7/14/20, with Pharah longing to have a man to shoot in the face because that would be easier than the emotions around whatever's going on with her, and I'm utterly tantalized. And I loved that hurt/comfort you wrote for me, where Pharah had this single minded drive to find out what had happened to Angela, and Tracer's trying to, well, comfort her, on some level, and the way you described Pharah's "animal cry" was FANTASTIC, and as always I am deeply jealous of your Tracer voice and IF YOU WOULD WRITE IT MORE IT WOULD HELP ME. -- WRITE, BITCH.
~~
*  The one were Hotaru confronted Michiru and Haruka about how they had tried to kill her in order to stop the Silence. Such a good little moment =w= -- zorrito
~~
AND THEN THESE WERE UNSIGNED SAD FACE
*  Chosen. I like your Overwatch stuff but Chosen was a goddamn masterpiece.
*  Operation: Heart Angels. Senshi going after Mamoru for his bullshit was something I didn't know I needed.
*  The entirety of Beggars Would Ride, including every single line of Anya's dialogue.
I’ll be drawing for the bonus liveblog around the start of THE GIFTENING 2020 (currently looking to be Monday, 11 January 2021). Each bonus question is another chance to earn an entry! I CAN ABSOLUTELY AND SHAMELESSLY BE BOUGHT.

Mun Things and Fandom Notes
about the mun. fill this out  &  tag a few people you’d like to get to know better !
tagged by the lovely @vetlanwrites tysm tagging some people I haven’t tagged before: @amalgammuses, @animus-inspire, @kychchc, @rotinthedark, @warofthebeasts & YOU!
name: my name is [ loud music interrupts ] nickname:  you can call me Kat or KF! preferred pronouns: she/her age range:  30+ favorite animal:  cats pets: cat and a dog tattoos/piercings: I had my ears pierced several times and they won’t stay pierced so I gave up on anything -shrug- star sign: virgo! I’m an August bby how long have you been in this fandom?: doing just the ones I currently have muses for, and not the ones I’ve only talked about -
Dragonball(Z) - I’ve been writing in DBZ since... oh geez, the late 90′s? I think the first fic I ever posted was DBZ and it was around that time. I didn’t start rping it until like, early 00′s though.
Final Fantasy - I actually dabbled in 9 a little bit around the time it came out in ‘00 (my friend had it!) but I wouldn’t say I really did much until I really got into 7, and that was around... geez, ‘05? I rped it a little with a friend around then but I didn’t really start writing it much until nearly ‘10. #latetotheparty Yet I do consider it my “home” fandom - I always come back to it.
Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons - early ‘00s! My first HM/SoS game was Friends of Mineral Town on my trusty GBA and I love it so much to this day. SO excited for the remake!
Legend of Zelda - I really, really loved Ocarina of Time from the get-go when I got it on the N64 in ‘98 (I got it again for the GameCube and the 3DS and would totally buy it for the Switch, just sayin.) Majora’s Mask creeped me out a bit and was stressful but I liked it, too. And then of course later titles like Twilight Princess were just... -chef’s kiss- but I didn’t really dig into the fandom until ‘10-’11 when I started rping Link with a friend and briefly tried joining a forum rp group (shoutout to ZRPG!) with an OC
Marvel Cinematic Universe - I want to say around ‘12, when Avengers came out? Like, I’d seen Iron Man but I didn’t really dig into it until then.
Pokémon - late 90′s / early 00′s because I first started my Pkmn journey playing Gold and Crystal. While I didn’t write fanfic or rp it, I definitely had headcanons and a lot of feels.
Sailor Moon - early 90′s! I first watched the anime as it came out, though I’ve since forgotten most of that and only have the manga/crystal in my head to run interpretations off of. It was so pretty tho.
Stardew Valley - a newer fandom for me, I really only started getting “into” it about a year ago, but man... I love it, I really do
Star Wars - despite early access to the OT as a kidlet, I didn’t actually get “into” Star Wars until the Prequels in ‘99 (fite me) when I fell in love with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan and promptly, voraciously, dove into fixit and timetravel fanfic. By the time KOTOR came out in ‘03 I was hooked.
Threads of Fate - I think I got into this one on the ground floor, so to speak. My friend had just gotten it and I borrowed it from her and my brother’s PS1 in ‘00 and that was it, I was in love.
why did you choose this specific character/s?:  under a cut bc I have like... nearly 30 muses now
I’m doing alphabetical order (by fandom / first name) bc it’s just easier to go down my list:
tl;dr I picked them all because I love them. Read on to find out why. Click their names to read their bios!
Dragonball Z
Vegeta - oh man, actually one of the first characters I ever rp’d or wrote in fic, and that’s saying something. I picked him because I love him. He’s an absolute ass, but he grows so much throughout Z. (I have yet to see Super, hoping to one day remedy that but we’ll see!) I guess I picked him up for nostalgia’s sake? I really love the character and think there’s a lot of growth yet to see buried under that pride and ego. If you can unearth it.
Final Fantasy
Angeal Hewley (FF7) - actually my first muse on Tumblr, back in... oh, 2013? The blog has been deleted, but he was the first muse I ever played seriously out of FF7. There’s parts of Angeal that really resonate with me, enough that - when I was a less experienced writer - I got tangled up in him a bit too much, made him a bit too personal, and I realized I had to take a step back from writing him. But I love Angeal, and after some time had passed, having written him in various fics, I’ve felt confident adding him... even if I haven’t done anything with him here yet.
Cait Sith (FF7) - I know a lot of people see Cait Sith as all sorts of negative things, but frankly I adore the little guy. And I guess I took him on partially because I couldn’t take Reeve on and not take Cait on, but partially because I see so much in him that could be interesting to explore and would really, really love to. (Any Reeve’s or AVALANCHE - or Turks! - come at me!)
Chaos (FF7) - I picked Chaos up on a whim, as far as Tumblr goes. I really enjoy rping him/Vincent off Tumblr and writing him in fics, and I suppose I just wanted to present a different side of him than I usually see. I’ve even had a thread that has a great deal of promise so I think it was worth it.
Genesis Rhapsodos (FF7) - my third FF7 blog, I think? It’s still up, though obviously not in use, just because I’d put so much work into it. I really adore Genesis, and love writing him. I love his sass and flare, but I love that he’s deeper than all the fire and flamboyance, if you’re willing to look past that. I’m lucky that I’ve had some lovely partners to explore him with, though I’d still kill for an Angeal to throw him at. XD Or a Sephiroth, for that matter.
Lazard Deusericus (FF7) - Lazard, my second FF7 blog and an unexpected love. I picked him up because I had recently started writing him in earnest with an off-Tumblr rp partner ( @thegeeksqueaks ) and was really enjoying him, and hadn’t seen him on Tumblr yet so thought I might get more partners that way. (It turned out there were a couple but they were inactive.) His first blog was accidentally deleted - over five years worth of character development and relationships - so after briefly working him up again solo I brought him over here. He’s not getting the same level of attention but it’s worth it not to be juggling blogs.
Reeve Tuesti (FF7) - pre-Remake, most of the Reeve rpers had gone inactive (shoutout to the fabulous @engineering-robotics and @animus-inspire for coming back!) and just... I love the character too much not to see him in the RPC. Of course, I love to write him period myself so I’d love more threads there but regardless he’s so much fun.
Tristan Pierce (FF7 OC) - Triiiiiiiiiis. Tristan was actually born as an NPC off of Lazard’s blog, who took a life on his own because he was just... so full of life. He actually had his own blog, too! I’ve barely done anything with him here, but I still keep him just because he gives me feels and he’s just neat. (He does still appear in the background of Lazard’s threads though.)
Harvest Moon / Story of Seasons
Iris (SoS) - I actually picked up Iris as a muse first for a fantastic HM/SoS/SDV/etc rp group I’m in a couple years ago, and liked playing her so much I thought I’d bring her here. Elegant lady novelist? Yes please.
Neil (ANB) - unlike Iris and Trent, I haven’t written Neil anywhere else, but he’s my love from A New Beginning and just... he seems like he’d be fun to write? I’d love to flesh him out.
Doctor/Trent (FoMT/MFoMT; DS/CUTE) - Trent, like Iris, is one I write for the rp group and I legit picked him up because of the opportunity for h/c I am not sorry. But seriously though, he’s grown on me so much and I love my awkward doctor.
Legend of Zelda
Midna (Twilight Princess) - TP is one of my absolute favorite Zelda games, and Midna a favorite character. There’s just so much to her you don’t get to see that I was really hoping to get to dig into, still hope one day to. We’ll see. Worth keeping on roster.
Revali (Breath of the Wild) - my newest addition! I keep saying in complete seriousness “Genesis with more feathers” but seriously, I may have a type? I love him so much and wanted to see more of him, and by god if I have to do it myself so be it. (I have been playing a ton of BOTW lately which probably has a lot to do with it. XD)
Sheik (Ocarina of Time) - I love them so much. OoT didn’t have a ton of character building, but the sheer implications of the character speaks volumes that I want to explore. I’m lucky enough to be getting the chance to, too.
Marvel Cinematic Universe
Tony Stark - did I mention I have a type? I feel he makes a good argument for it. I originally picked Tony up because I just fell head over heels for the character in the first couple Iron Man movies + Avengers. I... am less in love with him in the later movies, not gonna lie, and am so far behind on lore that I’m considering dropping him. But yeah, originally picked him up just because he had so much potential. Thx Disney, great job there.
Pokémon (gameverse)
Lily Hart (HG/SS OC) - another OC of mine, this time for a fandom that... I only really know through the games, as opposed to manga/anime. I picked her up because I really liked the idea of doing events or little ask things with her, and still may try to initiate some more of those. We’ll see?
Sailor Moon (manga/Crystal)
Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury - I actually picked Ami up because of a plot with @magicalxgirlsxrp where we were splitting up the Inners and the Shitennou for some mega threads. XD But yeah, I do like her. Even if she’s a challenge to write sometimes because she’s very much not like me, and very much smarter.
Kunzite - Kunzite I have always loved, always, and I’ve had him on here because I really wanted to explore him more. I love him even more after the teasing in Crystal of what might have been, be still my shippy heart.
Mamoru Chiba/Endymion/Tuxedo Mask - super fond of Mamoru, too; I didn’t care for him so much in the 90′s anime, but in the manga and Crystal I really became more fond. I do a few things differently, I think, but don’t we all? I picked him up for that very reason, in fact.
Minako Aino/Sailor Venus - Minako is really interesting to me because there’s so much more to her than her airheaded, bubbly persona that fits her like a glove... but is just as superficial. I mean, she’s sunny and happy but she’s also the OG Senshi, the leader of the Inners, a powerful, commanding fighter - she’s complex, and I really wanted to explore that + getting to have fun with her bubbliness.
Nephrite - another picked up from @magicalxgirlsxrp‘s enabling. But I do find him really interesting so it works out well. Haven’t done a lot with him, but we have plans. Plans I’m looking forward to.
Stardew Valley
M. Rasmodius - I knew I really wanted to do something with SDV, once I got to playing it, but I wasn’t sure who. I thought about Sebastian and Elliot, but already had interacted with a couple who were just fantastic. So instead, I did a good fallback of mine - because I never, ever get tired of playing mages. Ever. XD
Star Wars
HK-47 (KOTOR) - the attitude. I wanted to write HK entirely because of the scorching levels of sass from this droid.
Liana Raine (SWTOR f!JC) - the Jedi Consular storyline is one of my favorites out of all of SWTOR (tied with the Inquisitor, but I’m revamping her) and I really just wanted to keep playing with it even once I’d done the dedicated storyline.
Revan (KOTOR LS!F) - give me female Revan you cowards. -ahem- I have feels about Revan, okay? I love her so, so much - she even had her own blog, I love her that much. I would absolutely love to do something more with her but I will hold on to her if for no other reason than to make sure at least one black, female Revan exists in the world. (I want all the timetravel and crossover threads, hit me up.)
Tharan Cedrax (SWTOR) - another for attitude, really, and also definitely my type. XD He’s charming, he’s snarky, he’s sassy, he’s brilliant... I very much like Tharan and really felt he, like most of the companions, deserved more screentime. So, I’m here to give it to him.
Threads of Fate (Dewprism)
Duke - he’s so cool. I mean, he’s a dork, but his powers are amazing and he’s just a fun, incredibly upbeat character to play. And well, anything to spread my love of that teeny fandom.
Fancy Mel - Mel hits all the sweet spots for a mage character. She’s got flavor, she’s got amazing powers, and she had room to create a fantastic backstory with amazing crossover potential. Is she a bit OP? Yes. But she has no intention of using it for anything but her amusement/whimsy.
Rod the Bladestar - I love Rod. I love his oddly genteel manners, I love how he’s unwittingly sexist but quickly cleans up his act when put straight, I love how driven and passionate he is. Could do without such a typically-Square-outfit, but you can’t have everything. (In the right artists’ hands, he might even be pretty amazing, actually.)
Did you read all of that? Amazing. Any of them strike your interest? Hmu and maybe we could plot a thread! :eyes:
Also I sincerely apologize to mobile users who had to read all that because Tumblr can’t get it’s act together.

Okokok, so, I’ve been kind of quiet around here lately (ummm, I had no idea that cheerleading was going to own my soul when I signed my kiddo up for it), but I did see somewhere around here that we are recommending fics for October, and I love this idea! I have a list spanning back since 2004 of fics I love and reread and I’m excited to throw a few out there you may not have read before!
The fic above, High School Romance by Luv-X-Juliet, is just as it reads in the description: a high school romance that went wrong. This AU (which uses the DiC 90s dubbed names) alternates between past and present. First, we are introduced to Serena, who is back in her hometown of Crescent Bay. She’s extremely guarded with her emotions, but makes it very clear that she needs to speak with Darien, the man who broke her heart. Of course, we then meet Darien, a respected businessman, who is engaged to his on-again off-again high school girlfriend, and is constantly under his Mother’s (spoiler!alert: BERYL IS HIS MOM. HAH!) thumb.
Next, we are introduced to a teenage Serena, who longs to be popular, and to Darien, a rich and beloved all star football player. We go through the roller coaster of emotions: attraction, disdain, flirting, jealousy, and winkywinknudgeynudge as we learn about their past relationship, why things ended the way they did, and most importantly - the reason why Serena needs to speak to Darien.
Without giving too much away, this story takes a decent amount of turns to keep the reader engaged. There is an element of predictability in how the story turns out, but isn’t that the case with our canon couple? Hahaha. In any event, the chapters are of decent length, the writing style is a good balance of narration and dialogue, and there is a plethora of emotion that will keep you reading. And the fact that Beryl is Darien’s Mom in this story is well worth the read (hahahaha)!!!
Note - it is rated M, but it’s a soft M IMO.
I recently reread this story when I was sitting for three hours in a high school gym waiting for my daughter to do her cheer competition routine I MEAN LIVING A REALLY EXCITING LIFE and it kept me sane as I sat on those dreaded folding benches so there’s that XD

A2, A9, B5, C3, D2, D8 ❤
Hurrah, more memeing!
The A’s
A2: How did you find your first fic? This story has one of three answers because in all actuality, I don’t know.
1) When I was little...we’re talking late 80′s, early 90′s, my dad used to log on to the internet for work on weekends and let me surf a little bit when he was done. I used to play mad libs and read Baby-Sitter’s Club stories. Looking back, I have no idea if the Baby-Sitter’s Club stories were Official Scholastic Material or fanfic. (And I can tell you right now that my mom probably got REALLY annoyed with my constant “What’s an adjective?” and “What’s an adverb?” EVERY TIME they came up in the mad libs.)
2) I used to write Sailor Moon fanfic on notebook paper and pass it around to my friends when I was in the sixth grade. I don’t think I got the idea of fanfic from another source. [It would be another year before I realized that my mad lib and Baby-Sitter’s Club machine was the internet and it had other things on it.]
3) A friend asked me for my e-mail address when I was in seventh grade. I thought it was a ridiculous request. I laughingly told my mom about it because how silly! We don’t have internet! To which she answered some variation of, “You have been using the internet since kindergarten.”
And then I used it to search for Star Wars fanfic. The Organazation and some Geocities page named after Calista were my main sources of fanfic.
A9: Who was your first ship?First ever, probably Will Riker and Deanna Troi. Don’t remember one before that. First one that I read fics about is Han and Leia.
The B’s
B5: Which story have you read more than any other? How many times?IIIIIIIIIII don’t know for times. I tend to re-read Abigail Reynold’s P&P fics A LOT.
The C’s
C3: Is there anything that makes you nope out of a story? What is it?MANY. But the big one is the rampant misogyny in this female-dominated, by-women, for-women space of fanfic. There are a great many P&P fics that I never got passed ch. 1 because of now the narrator decided the best use of their time was to make Caroline Bingley the Loathed By All, absurdly dressed and constantly screeching. I also hate stories were Elizabeth compares herself to Caroline like, “If you wanted a [obviously negative, but we will pretend that society would like it for some strange reason] woman, you should have married Caroline Bingley!” And then Darcy laughs and laughs. Or he would, if fandom let him have a sense of humor.
The D’s
D2: Who/Where did you get your last fic rec from?My friend Chiara sent me a link via Tumblrchat to a really painful Rumbelle one-shot because she wanted me to suffer, as friends do.
D8: Which fandoms do you read fic for?Currently, Once Upon a Time and Pride and Prejudice. There have been many others in the past.

Still late, but...
Hey, I figured with an actual day mostly off, I should get to Day Two of @sailormoonreviewevent since I’ve got the time, yeah?
So for day one, I’ve listed a bunch of my absolute favourite authors, many of whom I’ve become friends with even outside of fandom constraints, and most of whom are quite well-known in our corner of fandom. Obviously, everything they write is just awesome. But for day two, I think I’ll list a few fics that are more obscure. I do not know these authors personally, and have never spoken to them either via gushing reviews or lj or tumblr or ficathon or any of the other methods we fanfic writers glomm onto each other.
Write a review for that one story you keep remembering, that doesn’t let you go.
That was day two’s prompt. And because I really don’t have any ultimate favourites, per se, I will list more than one fic.
Virgo by Quicksilver. Ami/Saffir. Unfinished, probably abandoned since it hasn’t been updated since 2003.
Okay, so you guys KNOW that I am a diehard senshi/shitennou shipper. Been there (for years), done that, got the t-shirt, etc. etc. Ami/Zoi OTP!!!11!!!11oneone!! 5EVA!!!!11111!!12233!! I myself have written a gazillion fics to that effect. However, this fic is NOT A/Z. It features what looks like a developing relationship between Ami and Saffir (of the Dark Moon arc), although at the point of the latest chapter posted, they are not established as a couple or doing any of the huggy-kissy-cuddly-sexy type stuff. And really, the ‘shippy aspect is not what I love the most about this fic, but rather the characterization.
Now, those of you who know me would probably know that I am a sucker for characterization. Like, I would far rather read a vignette where almost nothing happens if we get a good glimpse into the characters rather than a crapload of action-packed exposition in which a ton of stuff happens to people I have no interest in and can’t relate to. The fic is based on the premise of anime!Saffir who realizes that the Wiseman does not have the best interests of his beloved brother in mind and more or less lands in Ami’s lap. Ami-- studious and logical but quietly and deeply empathetic, more or less takes him in. It explores both their psyches-- Saffir’s inner conflict over his loyalty to his brother and his sense of honour, the slow and subtle attraction between him and his rescuer, the “other side of the story” that he’s gradually hearing from the redeemed Ayakashi sisters and the senshi themselves-- Ami’s reticence around him, both as a potential still-enemy and an attractive, intelligent male who is sharing close, albeit temporary, quarters with her, her reaction to finding someone, at last, who is an intellectual equal to her (though, of course, there’s always the lingering worry about the fact that up to now he has been using his powers for evil rather than good). The budding romance is very slow burn-- but that sort of fits for these two. The writing in itself is very good-- not gunked up by crappy mechanics or an overabundance of purple-prosey superlatives the way some fics are. In sum, I wish the fic wasn’t abandoned, as it is extremely well-written and engaging and I so wish there was more of it. And while I will always and forever ship A/Z and the rest of the senshi/shitennou ‘ships... if I were to want an alternative Ami-ship, this would be it. Because of this one fic. So there.
It’s Gonna Be Me by Firespirit1. Rei/Jadeite AU, Complete.
So this fic, if it’s not immediately apparent by the popular ‘90s boy band title, is just the type of guilty pleasure that we all love to read whether or not we’re willing to admit it. Just like the song in question is a bop and you guys KNOW you jammed to this back in the day and probably would still do now even if the jamming is internal. The premise is the stuff of the golden age of teen movies-- Rei wants to get together with Darien, but he hooks up with Serena. So she and Jadeite (named Jed here) pretend to be a couple so that they can make Darien jealous and so that Jed can get a chance at being prom king. It’s Sailor Moon meets She’s All That, and I’m totally okay with it. It’s a bit dated, perhaps, but it feels nostalgic-- sort of an ode to a more innocent time where we were younger and perhaps a bit more naive but not so weighed down with the mundaneness and harsh realities of adult life-- where our main concerns were going to the mall and high school cliques and crushing on a boy rather than crippling student loan debt or periodic car maintenance or how to set up an IRA. The relationship that develops between Rei and Jed starts on teen movie cliche, perhaps, but it feels realistic in its way-- we see hints of their individual personalities outside their arrangement, and when they start falling for each other, we root for them. You almost want to have the end-of-story montage that some teen movies do, in which the hero and heroine are shown going to college, growing up into full adulthood with all its trials and tribulations dulled somehow because they’re still together and have never lost that starry-eyed, heady, honeymoon feeling of first love. This fic is fluffy lighthearted fun, and it has an unfinished abandoned sequel called Underneath It All (M/K) which makes me sadfais because it is unfinished and abandoned. But, still, guilty pleasure fluffy lighthearted fun, with banter and well-written characters? Sign me up!

Think about this
and I know @tsukinokiss may or may not be able to relate to this but we shall see Do you ever stop and think about all the different...”worlds” that you have wanted to visit because of Anime since it really hit big here in the late 90s and even more so over the past few years with all the stream sites that we have at our disposal to watch our favorite Animes or to discover new ones? If you have then I think you may understand for people like me what its like when you are someone that is a “self-insertist” (and this was before I knew what the hell that term meant) because if someone were to sit down and ask me this question: “What does your blog title mean?” Well here’s a good way to describe it Imagine working in an Office Complex and its just YOU at that time.  Now imagine that over time as you start to like certain series’ or certain characters from series’ that you watched that they come to “work there” and then over time you go to “visit” them in “their worlds” when you write your fics for that series.  You may or may not be a fan of the series as a whole but again you might have characters you like so you write a story including them so that you can visit them whenever you want and keep them close to you in your mind and your heart. Now this can cause a problem because you see the more show you watch the more people come to visit and work with you so you have to make time for them too!  This can be a problem because you have to devote the time and the energy for that group of people but you can’t forget the others that you love and care about either. Like look at me right?  One of my all-time faves is the very handsome and charming Yukari Mishakuji from K Pro BUT because of how many others have moved into the office and how many new places I have to visit..,my time with him sadly has been very limited.  Its not that I don’t love or care about him...that’s not it at all but its harder the more I go off to explore other places that I want to visit with some of my other faves or as the term goes in our field “Fictional Others” or “f/o” for short. Since about 2013 if you asked me to name some of the series’ that I have grown close to well let’s try it Brothers Conflict Diabolik Lovers (The Mukamis, Reiji and Shu) Uta no Prince-Sama (HEAVENS and QN) Kuroko’s Basketball (All schools but if you asked me to name one in particular...Kaijo believe it or not and even Rakuzan) K Project (Scepter 4 and their King Reisi Munakata as well as JUNGLE’s Swordsman Yukari Mishakuji) Tsukiuta (Gravi as a Unit but individually Haru and Shun) Gundam Wing (Zechs Marquise...he was one of the OGs from my old fic days) Sailor Moon (Yaten Kou/Star Healer ,Sailor Mars and Zoisite) I could go on but we would be here for like 20 years and I ain’t got that kind of time Its partly because of this sometimes I am almost afraid to say “I’m in Fandom x” because you never know how some people would take it and that’s just wrong you know?  The point of a fandom is people find ways to create content for a series that they like and...as long as its not truly problematic people should be allowed to create that content.  Its why I’m glad honestly we have blogs on here like @selfinsertlove and @selfinsertheaven because sometimes if I am stuck for an idea I think this year I am going to start doing a prompt from the blog to try and write something with one of my pairings or verses that I enjoy. Like I said this in my video last night:  If it wasn’t for Anime I dunno honestly if i would be nearly as creative or passionate as I am right now!  I love to create content for different shows but I’m no artist or gif maker (now let me figure out Photshop CS2 and that might change) but I write my stories and theories about different series’ to contribute and its one of the things that I enjoy doing A LOT and to get back to my original point its what the “Wondrous World” is for me. Its like this right When I was younger for a lot of different reasons I didn’t have a lot of “real” friends” and legit most of them were in my head and they came from video games.  This was in the 1980s wen I was going to a Catholic School at the time and kids were nasty to me something fierce which caused problems for me because even back then I didn’t take guff from kids and I got more detentions than you could imagine. Legitimately all my “imaginary” friends that I had came from cartoons or video games back then and its not something I am ENTIRELY proud to talk about but when you are that kid in school that got bullied and fucked with by your classmates in general it creates a situation and even my mother and grandparents didn’t know how to deal with it...to be honest I still don’t think they know. Now when we fast forward to when I was in High School and then of course now because of Anime there are a lot of people I met for real that were good people and I do sincerely call them my friends and I mean it.  For me thought when I write a fic about one of the Animes that I like or when I write my “skits” from the “Office” that I work in it gives me a chance to meet with the other people that I love and care about from different Animes because to me they never will go away and I’m 35 years old soon to be 36 and I love each and every one of them dearly like I love all of you as friends and followers. I think the one thing that fandoms can/should do more of (if they don’t already) is embrace those kinds of people because here’s the thing...these people want to show you their own take on a series and showing support for it.  Its something that can spark a unique discussion because you can talk to these people and find out WHY they like certain characters or groups and THAT is something that is so important you don’t even know. I’ll leave you with this Self-Inserts in any fandom and ESPECIALLY Western and Japanese Anime fandoms are arguably one of the most important things you can see because with them you can open up dialogues and maybe introduce people to a show they might not even watch otherwise.  Its something that DOES take time to get used to because if you put out an S/I story or art you may or may not get backlash from a fandom but don’t let that discourage you...EVER!  Keep creating your individual stories/arts with the shows and characters that mean  a lot to you and you will be AMAZED at how much you enjoy it in the end!

June 8th-June 14th, 2019 Creator Babble Archive
The archive for the Creator Babble chat that occurred from June 8th, 2019 to June 14th, 2019.  The chat focused on the following question:
What was the original incarnation of your current comic?  What has changed over the lifespan of the idea, and what has remained the same?
Nutty (Court of Roses)
My comic, Court of Roses http://courtofroses.thecomicseries.com/, was originally built around my first D&D character, a half-elf bard named Merlow the Rose. The comic was going to be strictly based on D&D, but as I started going gung-ho on the worldbuilding I started deviating away, making my own variations on races, making my own pantheon, and even formulating different magic rules and creatures. It's still largely inspired by D&D, and other fantasy works like Lord of the Rings, Elder Scrolls, etc., but I'm also trying to make the world my own, too!
Pencilz
My comic the Caraway Crew https://tapas.io/series/The-Caraway-Crew was originally based on my childhood friend group. Actually the very first incarnation I had with the Caraways was where we were all self-inserted into some large crossover fanfiction... it was pretty bad aha.(edited)
I just realized I said that twice oops
Draco Plato
The first incarnation of my comic....world was a Sailor Moon parody I believe. There was a boarding school and magical boys and girls that fought aliens or something. Firosofi was the "priest" of water and Affinity was the "priestess" of light (ironically her character hasn't seen the light of day in years). Apus was still around in that incarnation since Firosofi and Affinity were affiliated with it there too I think The initial premise still makes up the core of the Apus ideology I think; people fight in pairs against forces that threaten Earth. The focus since shifted to be much more character focused and on characters who were made much later (Damon and Lyall primarily). http://khyatix.com/
ErinPtah (Leif & Thorn | BICP)
But I'm A Cat Person http://bicatperson.com/ basically sprang into being (heh) fully-formed, but I pulled a bunch of the characters from earlier fanfiction incarnations. Jany and Kara Lynn got started in a Neopets RPG; Timothy was created as an OC member of Section XIII in Hellsing; Reseda and Cybele were from the same Sailor Moon exoplanetary team.(edited)
Leif & Thorn http://leifandthorn.com/ started as Colbert Report fanfiction XD It was so far removed from the source material that I spent years thinking "I should file off the serial numbers and try to publish this as an original work"...but it didn't click until I got away from the idea of doing a 1:1 adaptation of the fic's plot, and just used it as the foundation of a world where I could set all kinds of other stories.
AntiBunny
My comic AntiBunny http://antibunny.net/ started out as an all pencil sketchy comic about depression. It experimented a lot early on artistically as I tried to tear down my old style and build a new one. As it's changed over the years I've built up a new art style, and as I've changed as a person I'd say it's become its own story driven by the characters. The protagonist's depression and anxiety is still important, but I think the significant thing is that I'm seeing depression from the outside rather than the inside, and my writing has changed a lot as a result.
mathtans
Interesting topic. I might be unique in that my math comic started as a web serial (though I didn't know that's what it was at the time). Meaning text, but supplemented with drawings, because the point was that the graphs were character hairstyles: https://sites.google.com/site/taylorspolynomials/series/openbar
I gave it up after several years due to lack of interest, then brought it back as a web comic with many of the characters redesigned (parabola having twintails instead of bunny ears, for instance). http://mathtans.ca/ It then crossed over with the serial, meaning both sets of characters are canon and take place in the same universe. https://mathtans.blogspot.com/2017/04/math-character-bible.html
So the more it changes, the more it stayed the same? (As to plot, that tended to be whatever math concept I thought would be interesting, from archaic trig functions to fractals... I never knew where that'd be going.)

The original incarnation of Ingress Adventuring Company https://ingress-comic.com/ was, like many other fantasy comics, derived from a D&D campaign I played in. I really loved the character I played (Toivo), and the campaign had finished, so I decided to keep using him in more stories. While the basic idea of the character is the same, I completely removed him from the campaign that he was in so I wouldn't have any issues with having to ask my friends to use their characters. Toivo has essentially remained the same, but large parts of his backstory and the entire setting has been changed from the original game I played him in. And, since I'm no longer tied to D&D with a comic, the rules of magic are a lot more vague. Similar to what Nutty said above, my comic is still largely inspired by D&D and other fantasy staples, but at least I can deviate from them as I continue to make my comic.

Black Ball http://welcometoblackball.com/ is a much more recent idea of mine and hasn't really changed too much in terms of the overarching story, though minor things have shifted such as Maude becoming more of a main character, giving her a brother who is also getting more involved in the plot, and changing the role of a future character. But it's always been Emily and Chester solving a murder mystery.
MJ Massey
The shifts have been so minor and over time that it's hard to find where the "first draft" ends and the "next version" begins. But I've been mentally shifting things as I go along and see that certain aspects of the story need more attention for the ending to pay off or for the character to get well developed
Who the murderer is has stayed the same and how it happens and why. Just the circumstances around it have been smudged and fixed

The OG plans I had for https://oiydcomic.com/ occurred after I was fiddling with twine to make a one shot short story, and an illustration series/zine project after having an intense dream. At first, I initially wanted to create it into an ero-romance comic about a woman having a one night stand with her dream lover, eventually living together after seeing each other for a few weeks. After thinking about it further (and some beta readers later lmao), I decided to develop into a romance-focused drama about acceptance and making life more than what is instilled in our dreams. I fleshed out Cara's (main character) modivations, her background in regards on courtship and romance somewhat seen in the asian-american experience (specifically Vietnamese-american rituals; some that retained after viet dispora came to the US in the late 80's - 90's and the effects on their children). Basically, from intense escapism to a general exploration on romance. With some common themes I've liked in 90's shoujo with some criticisms here and there.(edited)

Galebound (http://www.galebound.com/) started off as what was going to be a short story. I posted it up on deviantART just for fun, and I was totally pantsing the plot xD I had an idea of a magician who for some reason couldn't ask questions, and the stablehand he kidnapped when he wasn't getting a horse fast enough. The original idea was that Din was on the run from something? And Conan was that hapless stablehand the protags burst in on like "I need a horse!" before escaping $antagonist or chasing someone. Originally Din was supposed to be a good guy, for real, just...more of a trickster to Conan's straight-faced act(edited)
Since its inception, the plot got way deeper and a gazillion times more horrible I think at one point an Obligation wasn't necessary for magic, and probably wasn't even totally compulsory But then the Pascal Incident happened and making the Obligation compulsory suddenly became much more integral to the plot and world. And once that happened, Din's backstory got more fleshed out and his character got darker. I still really wasn't sure what to do with Conan at that point, though. That didn't hit me until like seven years after the original five chapter draft going up on dA, and knowing Conan better changed everything It's fun :'D

Super Galaxy Knights Deluxe R (http://sgkdr.webcomic.ws/) started off as a short film I made for an introductory film class in college (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibRdxNLd3Q4). The film is about a fan of a really bad anime forcing his boyfriend to sit through an episode. The production quality of the film is honestly really bad in retrospect (still got an A though lol). At around the same time as I was making that film, I had just watched... I assume Food Wars, and I was on a real "you could make a battle series out of anything" stint. Like, I would just have a notes document full of ideas like "a shonen series about math olympiads". One idea I really liked was "a shonen series, but it's actually just The Wizard of Oz". After I had finished the short film, I wondered what the actual series that the "anime" took place in would be like, so I decided to build out a comic. I outlined five books, the first being based primarly off the Wizard of Oz. And... the rest is history.

The first incarnation of millennium (http://millennium.thecomicseries.com/) was pretty much a "chosen one" story where the main character had to go kill an evil space queen and was the only one who could do it. I made about 6 more stories that I later decided I could put together, and the easiest way for me to combine them all was a highschool space story, which I developed for quite a while... Later I changed them all to be adults and started building the current iteration of the story (which has also changed a ton)

My WIP comic (which has an ask blog: http://ask-a-warlock.tumblr.com/) started out as a video game idea incorporating Banjo Kazooie collectathon platforming with Ace Attorney trial mechanics....obvs I'm not much of a programmer or 3D modeler, so I went with skills that I actually know how to do: Write and draw(edited)
It had one incarnation where the characters run around all of Europe but it was much too much to develop within 250 pages so I scrapped that and focused on one standalone story, which I'm thumbnailing now and I'm hoping to get into the art stage by the end of the year
and now the page count is about 170 so hopefully that's an easier project to wrangle, when it comes down to it
