ESC2023 Reaction Post

Just like the title said, I'm writing this post as I listen to most of the 2023 entries for the first time. So far, I have only heard Italy (of course), Spain, Finland, Serbia, Portugal (I just couldn't miss their national finals), and Norway (heard it in the wild).

My top 6 of these entries would look like this:

1. Finland: Käärijä - "Cha Cha Cha"

I've definitely caught the Cha Cha Cha fever! At this point, I've streamed it 240 times in less than a month. It's an instant dopamine boost, it hits several spots of my taste in music, the transition between the two halves of the song is seamless and reflects the lyrics perfectly (I recommend Eurovision Histories' analysis of the song, he explains it really well), Käärijä is such a charismatic performer and an absolute sweetheart, but most of all...

2. Spain: Blanca Paloma - "Eaea"

I rarely cry over a song, so when one does manage to get my eyes wet, it must be special. The fusion between flamenco and a contemporary production, together with Blanca Paloma's flawless and intense vocals, make "Eaea" a contender not only in my ears, but also in my eyes, as the staging completes the package effectively. Hopefully she doesn't change it much for Liverpool!

3. Serbia: Luke Black - "Samo Mi Se Spava"

It seems like Konstrakta might have paved the way for a more experimental side of the Serbian music scene! I first heard "Samo Mi Se Spava" at Pesma za Evroviziju's final and, while I loved the dark electro-pop style, I was also left a little confused - maybe it was the vocals that I couldn't fully get? But with more listens, I've now warmed up to it. Its only flaw is that it's too short. Give me a 7-minute long extended mix with a drop going absolutely bonkers, please.

4. Italy: Marco Mengoni - "Due Vite"

Yes, it's a classic Sanremo-style ballad. But the artist can make or break this kind of songs with their way of singing, and Marco definitely makes it with his distinctive vocals and artistry. While he has a bunch of upbeat bangers and I would have loved him to show this different side of his music this time around, I really can't complain as "Due Vite" makes yet another entry we can be proud of. Forza Marco!

5. Portugal: Mimicat - "Ai Coração"

This keeps growing on me! Such a cute and classy song, retro sounding in the best way. Portugal is one of my favourite country in the ESC, and "Ai coração" is faithful to their brand. Mimicat is such an endearing performer and definitely sells the song!

6. Norway: Alessandra - "Queen of Kings"

It's 'last' as for now, but I'm sure it won't be last in my overall ranking! In fact, I can't see it dropping outside of my top 20 once I've heard all of the entries. Epic feel, pumping bass, powerful vocals - I wouldn't be surprised if "Queen of Kings" landed the second top 10 placement in a row for Norway. Bonus points for Alessandra being half Italian!

Needless to say, I really enjoy all of these songs. It feels so hard for me to imagine a personal winner other than "Cha Cha Cha", but maybe I'll be surprised...

Now to my live reaction to the remaining 31 entries: what I'm going to do is play ESCBEAT's Spotify playlist on shuffle without looking at the title, so I'll make it even more interesting for myself and try to guess which country's song is playing - with the exceptions of Armenia and San Marino, as they're not available on Spotify yet so I'll check them out individually on YouTube.

Armenia: Brunette - "Future Lover"

Ok, before the song starts, let me say that basing her song on Tumblr quotes is honestly iconic behaviour. Truly one of us. However I fear I won't be able to take it 100% seriously after reading this fact.

Alright.

After listening: you know what... it makes a lot more sense to me now. The first verse can be interpreted as her scrolling her dashboard, reading such posts and fantasizing over this ideal partner to do all of these cute and mundane things with. The second verse is when she gets hit by reality and acknowledges that she's spent so much time obsessing over someone who doesn't even exist, and that realization hits her hard. The music seems to explode together with the racing thoughts in her mind. Solid, r&b-tinted track, has potential to be a memorable moment on the Liverpool stage. Oh, and once again Armenia shows that they're capable to make a music video.

San Marino: Piqued Jacks - "Like an Animal"

I have already read the lyrics to that, and they are definitely Something™. Let's see if the music and the performance can make up for it...

I was expecting so much worse from what I've read around the eurofandom spaces? It's a pleasant, very well sung rock song. The lyrics didn't even bother me that much while listening, although they're kinda awkward indeed. Maybe they'll change them up in the upcoming revamp?

Now to shuffling the Spotify playlist.

Sweden: Loreen - "Tattoo"

Oh, this has to be Tattoo. The start is indeed a bit reminiscing of The Winner Takes It All! It's what Sweden can do best - a strong pop song with slick production, in which Loreen's personality and artistry is the added value. I wish she had presented something more experimental, but seeing how it went with "Statements", can we really blame her? "Tattoo" does sound like a jury winner, and it would surely be deserved. I'm sure it's even better live - I'll make sure to check her Melfest performance out!

Australia: Voyager - "Promise"

Have no idea of what this could be, but the sound is interesting. Hope the build-up does not disappoint.

Okay, it has to be Australia! I was expecting it to evolve into a full-on dance-pop song, lmao.

I'm digging this! "Dreamer" was a national final favourite of mine last year, and while I'm not sure I like "Promise" more, I still did like it a lot, and I can hear some common patterns between the two songs - poppier verses, the chorus suddenly getting heavier, and then the peak in the breakdown and the final chorus. Oh, and there's a short but sweet guitar solo in here! I wonder how it will be received on the ESC stage, as it might come across as confusing to some.

Slovenia: Joker Out - "Carpe Diem"

Is this Joker Out? I've been SO curious to hear their song, as I heard some of their back catalogue and it sounds really cool.

OMG I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. Such a strong indie-rock banger, reminiscent of what I used to hear on the alternative radio stations in the mid 00s, but still sounding fresh in 2023. Also Slovene sounds adorable together with rock music. It's been absolutely worth the wait! I NEED THIS TO QUALIFY OKAY.

Austria: Teya & Salena - "Who the Hell Is Edgar"

OH MY GOD YOU'RE SUCH A GOOD WRITER. Yeah, recognized it instantly. MASSIVE BOP ALREADY. Was... not expecting this opera bit.

POE POE POE POE POE POE POE POE POE POE POE POE POE POE POE EDGAR ALLAN EDGAR ALLAN

Everyone stand up for the new Austrian anthem. Honestly iconic. Loving it unironically, great production, love me some satire, and I trust them to deliver live. Hope they go bonkers with the staging. I feel like ranking these entries is going to be hell...

Switzerland: Remo Forrer - "Watergun"

Oh, piano intro.

Army mention. Switzerland, isn't it?

Not bad, just sounds kinda cliché so far... very nice voice though. Can't see myself replaying it. Probably going to end up in my bottom 10.

Georgia: Iru - "Echo"

This is a banging intro, I'm listening respectfully.

...Georgia?

There's going to be a drop, I hope so...

I'm... disappointed so far? Not really hearing the build-up I was hoping for. It seems to be a fan favourite, but I'm not getting it. Maybe it will grow on me, who knows?

Moldova: Pasha Parfeni - "Soarele si Luna"

ROMANIAN. Has to be Pasha. Another song I was eager to hear!

THE DROP. THANKS FOR MY DAILY DOSE OF DOPAMINE. THIS IS SO GOOD HELP. The bass, the flute, the backing vocals, everything. This might be my favourite Moldovan entry ever. Pasha Parfeni came on this bitch mad as hell. Welcome back!

Azerbaijan: TuralTuranX - "Tell Me More"

Automatic voice message? This sounds kinda unserious idk why.

Oh, it has to be Azerbaijan.

I'm glad they left the artists more creative control this time around, but this is really not doing it for me. It sounds like the demo to some 90s song. My last so far. I fear this won't do well and the delegation will go back to Melfest rejects...

Ireland: Wild Youth - "We Are One"

We take our first breath and then we exhale. King of teaching us how to breathe. Can't figure out which entry this is, but it sounds cliché so far.

Oh, Ireland. Wild Youth, what have you done? I already knew their song "Can't Say No" and it's so good, are we sure it's the same band? It's like they came together and decided to deliberately write the most stereotypical ESC song. It's a no from me.

Latvia: Sudden Lights - "Aijā"

Interesting beat, wonder where it's going to go from here. Oh, guitars.

5/4 to 6/8 tempo transition? A bit confusing but in a good way, I'm enjoying it a lot! Definitely original. Could it be Latvia? I've been VERY curious to hear it.

Well, he's saying Aijā now so no doubt. First impression is really good already, but I feel like I'll end up being obsessed!

Malta: The Busker - Dance (Our Own Party)

Funky pop, nice. Enjoying it more and more as it progresses, and that sax? *chef's kiss*. It's sensual, retro but there's also something a bit futuristic about it at the same time? Still not sure about what it is, even now that the song is coming to an end. Kinda want to say Malta? I'll figure this out by exclusion. What's sure is that it slaps.

(Spoiler: it was indeed Malta)

Romania: Theodor Andrei - "D.G.T. (Off and On)"

Is it Romanian again? Thought Romania's entry was in English, so this is surprising. And it's pretty good? This was one of the entries I just couldn't figure out the vibe of from the eurofans' comments, and I'm positively surprised honestly! Was expecting it to be maybe more upbeat, definitely was not picturing this jazz-rock fusion. Oh, turns out it's bilingual. I don't know how memorable it will be in the mix, but it's solid. Such a diverse lineup so far, it's shaping up to be a stronger year than I thought!

Albania: Albina & Familja Kelmendi - "Duje"

Oh, this lady CAN vocalize! Something in the Albanian water...

I was expecting this to be more ballad-y for some reason but it's making me want to shake my ass. I feel like something in the production/mixing is holding it back a bit, though. Overall it's Albania doing Albania, and I can't complain.

Iceland: Diljá - "Power"

Iceland time, I think? I'm enjoying it a lot so far. EDM hasn't been particularly successful at ESC, but she has a lovely voice and her winning Söngvakeppnin suggests to me that she can deliver live, so this could be a dark horse!

Denmark: Reiley - "Breaking My Heart"

Very modern production for this and vocoder for this next song. Okay, this is probably Denmark. It's most likely not going to be one of my favourites, but it's a personal taste thing. It's a solid pop song, hope he can deliver it live.

Estonia: Alika - "Bridges"

Now a lovely tone of voice being accompanied by just a piano and strings. I've lost count of which songs are left to listen to, and while I'm at the last chorus, I'm still struggling to figure out which country this is. WAIT IT'S ALIKA FKFHFKFHDKDH. Girlie said "bridges" a ton of times and I didn't catch it lmao. Really liked it though! It could stand out in a less balladful year like this one.

Czechia: Vesna - "My Sister's Crown"

FINALLY HEARING VESNA'S SONG!!!! This has been so hard to resist BUT GOD HAS IT BEEN WORTH THE WAIT. I've been listening to their music for some time and I was so excited when they were announced for ESCZ. It's what I was expecting from them and more: a gorgeously sung, very well produced folk-pop tune, and the rap verses are such a great surprise! Up to my top 5 you go.

Belgium: Gustaph - "Because of You"

Gustaph delivers some good old eurodance, and I can tell this is going to be a sort of guilty pleasure for me... except I do not, in fact, feel guilty. It's the good kind of dated. Good job on bringing out the 90s kid in me!

United Kingdom: Mae Muller - "I Wrote a Song"

Sounds like slick pop so far. Oh this is building up nicely.

Yes, the UK delivering a quality, very radio-friendly host entry. They seem to be determined in changing their course, and hopefully we'll see a competent enough staging to bring out the entry's potential!

Greece: Victor Vernicos - "What They Say"

Is it Greece? Cute song, I just think I'm not the audience for it. He's really young and this seems to be his first performance on a big stage, so I'm a bit worried about how he might cope with nerves... But then again, there have been 16-year-olds who did amazing on the ESC stage, so fingers crossed!

Croatia: Let3 - "Mama ŠČ"

CROATIA TIME LET'S SEE

This is as all over the place as I was expecting, it's far from a musical masterpiece but it's clearly not meant to be. They're just vibing, and I support that.

Cyprus: Andrew Lambrou - "Break a Broken Heart"

What in the Imagine Dragons is this? Oh, that's Cyprus. This is pretty good, I just don't see myself coming back to it much. But I feel like it's the kind of song that might be elevated a lot by strong staging.

Poland TVP: Blanka - "Solo"

BEYBAH ITS KAINDA CRAYZAH.

...yeah. It's a song. I get those who say it sounds like a Margaret song, but it's also giving me early 00s vibes. At the same time, while I'm a slut for early 00s pop, this is giving me nothing. And the context around it makes everything worse.

Israel: Noa Kirel - "Unicorn"

I've heard "Unicorn" is a messy song, now I'll get to witness it for myself. So far it's a respectable dance-pop entry, but that "power of the unicorn" sounds so random ngl.

Oh well. This is definitely a song meant FOR a staging. The breakdown after the repeated "do you want to see me dance?" line reminded me of kpop a bit. The ending was... so abrupt?

Netherlands: Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper - "Burning Daylight"

This might be the Netherlands' entry? You can surely hear Duncan Laurence in it. I was afraid it would sound too forced as a song and a duet, but it's flowing well so far. However I'm not a fan of what the drums sound like. They sound... buried? I liked it the most until the second chorus.

Germany: Lord of the Lost - "Blood & Glitter"

Metal? In MY Eurovision Song Contest? Love to hear it, especially from Germany, since it seemed like they were stuck in their safe approach to the competition. As for the song itself... maybe I'll warm up to it with time, but on a first impression, I like the intro and the verses a lot, the chorus not as much. The ending was great!

Ukraine: Tvorchi - "Heart of Steel"

Oh, what's this? Slightly off-beat chorus, very interesting!

Right, Ukraine! Tvorchi use their host entry privilege to bring something we've never heard at the ESC before, and definitely a change of pace from the folk-driven songs of the past couple of years, proving the richness of this country's music scene.

Lithuania: Monika Linkytė - "Stay"

ČIŪTOOOO TŪTO

Another returnee! Sweet ballad, really pleasant vocals. Turning into more of a midtempo now, with sort of marching drums. I can't remember which country is in which semi, but I wouldn't mind this in the grand final at all!

France: La Zarra - "Évidemment"

So far, so French. And yes, it's a compliment - I'm a French pop slut. It's now surprisingly evolved into pop-funk, and I'm loving it! France is truly on a great streak (STILL MAD ABOUT FULENN OKAY.) - maybe we'll see them win in the next few years?

Overall: what a year! I was planning to make an initial ranking, turns out I'm too overwhelmed right now. As the years go by, the songs seem to be less meant for a contest, and more as a bunch of stand-alone solid and diverse tunes that happen to compete with each other, therefore it feels unfair to choose some over others. I'll take my time to warm up to them, and see which ones I will come back to the most, which ones will grow on or off me.

I think Finland is still my favourite, though.

Most likely to end up in my top 10: Czechia (definitely top 5), Slovenia, Latvia, Moldova, Malta, Austria

Inktober days 16-25

hi!! small scheduling thing I wanna say before we get into it!! if you just wanna see the art you can skip to under the cut!! where it says 'keep reading'!!

Im posting 10 (thats right, ten!) drawings today, and 5 tomorrow!! (hopefully!) that way, I can just post one final drawing on Halloween!! I didn't fully think this schedule out tbh... but thats okay! I think this'll work fine, Im just ensuring you all know :D

as for how I'll post after October... we'll have to see!! I *might* do novelember! but I also might instead of daily prompts combine them into one per week or generally do less, just because I can't write as fast as I draw! (glances at my finished but unposted scarian pt 2.... so maybe i can write fast but it takes a bit to be satisfied with it....) /silly

first time drawing jimmy!! the canary!! but also the sheriff!! I saw something on tumblr a while ago where hes literally like a little bjd (ball joint doll, I think!) and I think thats really cute! I fudged the proportions on that middle drawing, but thats okay lol

Day 25

I love this one the most I think- at least from this batch! watcher grian has always been something I love even though I havent seen Evo... and it was fun to play around with wing placement! and the pose was fun :3

my app crashed while I was drafting this so im sorry if anything seems stiff or rushed TwT

I had to rewrite it all! makes it feel like energetic I think... oh well...

anyways!! theres all of them for now!! I'll try to post 26-30 tomorrow... we'll see how many I actually post, but I will post tomorrow!! see you then!! 💜

Summary of January:

Surprise MAKE ART EVERY DAY week at the beginning of the month that I kind of never recovered from. Did manage to finish everything in time and get my gift exchange done well within the time window, so good job there, me.

Plan from December:

All monthly/weekly goals for the year ✗ did more of these than I have in ages though, including Proko FINALLY

Review all Proko notes ✗ can't find them; did have to go back over parts of the spine and pelvis lessons while doing ribcages though

notes and improvements from finished stuff:

practice expression sketches + ear placement from photos✗, do Proko ribcage lesson✓, keep trying to put more effort into hands✓, check distance between eyes after sketching✓

lyon 1: lighting isn't correct, leaving partial lines in looks SUPER messy and bad, loses definition from neck downwards, hair looks stuck together, I DO like how I simplified the statues in the background though

lyon 2: really bad expressions (look forced), weird hair/cloak flow, sketchy and bad lines, eyes in 3/4 look flat (I think they extend too far into the cheekbone area?)

lyon 3: hand looks off but I don't know why, shoulder form is very strange (I apparently don't understand how to light collarbones), eyes too soft and blurry, open mouth looks wrong, chin too pointy. do like colours and the fact that I tried to include a hand though

lyon comic: bad colours, inconsistent face, hair looks very bushy/rough, background is, like, powerpoint-level bad (due to time constraints though - I think if I'd had the time some cross/hatching would have worked better)

lyon 5: lacks impact because we can't see his face (?) - maybe could have been more interesting if I'd added more concrete background details to set the scene, but at least I did put some background detail in even though it doesn't explicitly support the story. gesture got lost under cloak even though I did try to keep the cloak an interesting shape, so it's not 100% clear that he's climbing stairs

ME Secret Santa: again expressions look kinda forced, lines for background Reapers too thick, K's outstretched arm looks too short because it isn't obvious that his elbow is bent (should have emphasised cross contour lines on his armour and overlap). I do think this was a nice economical but effective piece though and I definitely learned from not having a story in the last piece

lyon 6: colours a bit all over the place (wanted it to be colourful but had trouble balancing them), perspective got a bit off while inking, hair looks really stringy and bad again, there's definitely a story and I upped the non-generic detail level but it's still lacking impact and this time I can't figure out why apart from the fact that Lyon's facing away again. Maybe the image should be landscape instead for more background detail (setting it in an actual world instead of one shop front)?

l/imstella: shoulder rotated awkwardly out, ribcage too narrow, overall not very 3D on Z-axis, cloak isn't really affected by perspective, head connection to neck is off

ACTIONABLES: USE PHOTO REFERENCE FOR EXPRESSIONS and try more open mouths, always try to include a story and use specific background details to flesh out the world (even if portrait) - MOST IMPORTANT, do more hair studies, use photo reference to figure out stylised 3/4 eyes

Part 1. Asteroids

🌈According to research, asteroid Angel(11911) was first discovered when it was still under the sign of Sagittarius

🌈Having your asteroid DNA(55555) in an earth sign can indicate that your children may see you as someone who is grounded, hard working, practical, and very stubborn. They might look up to you because you are capable enough of giving them the best life you could give and they would understand that your hard-work is a way to support the family

🌈Asteroid Psyche(16) in Pisces/Libra craves romance that is fanstasy-like, something out of this world or something magical that just came out of a romantic story. These folks are the types of people who might be actively looking for true love

🌈Vesta in the 7th house might prefer to not get married

🌈People with Psyche(16) conjunct mercury think on the “soul” level (with heart)

🌈Prominent Ceres can indicate being a very loving and supportive mother but if Ceres have many challenging aspects then it can be obsessing

Part 2. MBTI & Astrology

Sidenote: There's no correlation between MBTI and Astrology and we are using this only for personality observations

🌈Cancer/Moon dominants fit with the stereotypes of ISFJ. Both are maternal, nurturing, supportive, sympathetic, selfless, always protects their loved ones, and are sick of dealing your shit lmao. Also they tend to be the Mom/Dad of their friend group and the ones who always brings food 😋😋

🌈 I noticed most Sagittarius placements tend be ENFPs or INFPs base on MBTI. Maybe because both are idealistic, goofy, huge procrastinators, creative, and free-spirited. This can also apply to Jupiter/Pisces dominants (For Pisces it's more on INFP)

🌈While Virgo placements are more fitting with ISTJ because they are dutiful, loyal, traditional, organized, reliable, practical, and fact-minded. And with ISTJs dominant cognitive function which is Si(introverted sensing) they can use the past as a guide and lesson to be used in the present which explains them relying on the tried and true methods in dealing things

🌈In my own opinion, Scorpio/Pluto dominant just gives me INTJ vibes. Maybe because of their analytical and reserved nature

🌈Since the earth signs are known for being observant and detail-oriented, they are more of a sensing type because sensors can notice every single detail of a certain thing such as noticing that you change your hairstyle or you changed your signature perfume and they can sometimes miss the bigger picture. Also sensing types are more focused on the present(Extraverted sensing) or in the past(Introverted sensing) rather than the future which fits the earth signs who are more focused on experiencing the physical world

Part 3. Composites

🌈Uranus in the 1st can indicate that people might perceive you two as best friends

🌈Neptune in the 1st can indicate that people might see the partners as very spiritual and "usually not seen around" relationship

🌈Pluto in the 1st can indicate that people might project you two as very intense and "deep" relationship

🌈Sagittarius ascendant in the composite chart will indicate that other people see the relationship as very fun and adventurous. It has a philosophical vibe

🌈Earth Ascendant in a composite chart can indicate the relationship as stable or grounded and loyalty is established

Nov 2021 Wk 3 - Bad Buddy is carrying us all

Ongoing Series - Thai

Love With Benefits Ep 2 - I watch this one sped up (yes I can still read the subs) it’s still slow. These two are better at playing enemies than lovers, so far, and I’m still not sure about it. [Official Eng Subs started Nov 17, airing every Weds on YouTube: DV8 Thailand.]

Loveless Society Ep 1 - didn’t drop to Line international on Thursday so I have no idea what is going on.

Bad Buddy (YouTube) Ep 4 - Continues to be great even with the introduction of The Dreaded Faen Fatale (TM). Nanon is amazing, Ohm is fab, it’s a lot of fun. It’s the BL I’m living for right now. I’m live blogging it here.

Between Us special 2 - honestly could these two get any cuter? Also, are BounPrem the BEST pair at product placement in the history of BL? Could be. Honestly though, that’s not really what adults use baby power for boys... but you do you.

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

My Type (Taiwan indie - hard to find but a kind soul is subbing it here) Ep 2-4 it’s getting really cute, absolutely classic short form indie BL, with all the tropes and honestly, what’s not to like? It’s feels oddly Chinese BL old fashioned, liek Mr X and I or something. Love it.

My Beautiful Man AKA Utsukushii Kare (Japan - Gaga) Ep 1 was supposed to drop today (Nov 19) - I don’t have Gaga and I didn’t see the gif wizards or anyone else talking about it, or going gaga over it. So not sure whether it doesn’t have eng subs yet or if it’s just not very good or still hasn’t dropped. Here’s the trailer.

Vanishing My First Love AKA Kieta Hatsukoi (Japan - indie subbed) Ep 6 was fine, but the weakest installment I felt, still funny but I’m beginning to find the drama kind of manufactured and Aoki’s doubts too unfounded. This is a good one to take a rest on, though. Which brings us to: NEWS

Kieta Hatuskoi gets Wide Distribution. I reported all about it here, and what’s going on from industry back end. It’s going to both Netflix (Asia) and Viki (Americas, Europe, Africa, Oceania). Here in the states I found it on Viki listed in English as My Love Mix-Up (they are looking for a channel manager). I know it sucks to wait but this is a GOOD thing. Someone bought it for distribution! $$$ went to the creators. Yay!!!

In Case You Missed It

Hong Kong micro BL The Love that Dare Not Speak Its Name finished its run on YouTube and will now be airing on Gaga. It’s cute but nothing special.

Money Boys the movie launched in Taiwan. I suspect this one will end up on either Gaga or Viki but may take a while.

Oxygen the series got picked up by VIki for distribution. I’m not saying this means it might leave YouTube, but I’m not saying it won’t either. Sometimes VIki licenses properties for exclusivity (HIStory franchise) sometimes it doesn’t (Word of Honor). It does seem to be they often get exclusives on Taiwanese and Korean BL (Wish You excepted), but not Chinese, and only half the time Thai. And, of course, it looks like Kieta Hatuskoi is going in as an exclusive (I’d expect nothing less from a Japanese show currently airing to a Japanese company). I checked Mauve and as of Weds it was still on YouTube. Anygay, this may explain why they suddenly started dropping those specials last month.

Tiny baby Thai BL pulp Bx xM dropped Nov 10, but I totally missed it last week. Under 20 minutes long it’s about a high school love triangle, two boys and a girl. Told from the girl’s perspective, subs aren’t great, but it’s still cute.

GOSSIP

Thai BL short movie The Couple got a baby teaser, looks like a high school pulp love triangle kinda thing.

Earth & Mix (from Thai Bl 1000 Stars) reported filming a pilot (tester) trailer for working title Cupid’s Will for GMMTV. Possible BL, no MDL listing yet.

Catch Me Baby new Thai drama series about and investigator and a fixer on opposite sides to feature a BL side couple played by James & Net (who are also the leads in Bed Friend. James was Gui’s bestie, Beer, in Oxygen. And one of my top picks last year to get his own series, so of course I’m taking all the credit.)

K-BL Cherry Blossoms After Winter is wrapping up filming already, so it might be coming earlier next year than we thought.

K-BL Semantic Error got cast and started filming. Korea really is ramping up production of BL these days.

Speaking of Korea, Park Jun Hee (AKA Jun, leader of K-pop A.C.E.) is part of K-BL Tinted With You (seen below with leads Kim Tae Jung & Yoon Hyun Woo). That’s a pretty green cast but also... intriguing. This BL starts airing end of Dec on Viki. A.C.E. also sang the OST for Light On Me. I might have to became a stan at this juncture. (incidentally, he’s not the first idol to star in a BL while still active in a group, I think Lee Sang of Imfact takes that prize (Wish You).

Check in on my (not very realistic) wish list for episode 139

1. Nobody dies in the potential battle against Lucien/the Somnovem? I will be fine with temporary unconciousness but please nobody actually dies? Will they even fight? What was going on with the cliffhanger? I have so many questions!

Hey nobody died! Nobody even went unconscious. Can't believe we have a part 2 to this epic boss fight. This showdown is awesome! At least we know what will happen next episode.

2. The group uses their new eye powers for something (group telepathy will be hilarious, especially accidental) or just in general goof off with their new eyes.

3. Beau or Caleb discover more new eye functions that we have not seen before (antimagic cone anyone? Does the eye location have any meaning? Lucien’s was also on the chest right?)

4. We get to see more of the party members’ new powers/abilities since they levelled up and got a long rest! Let’s gooo.

MOTIVATIONAL SPEECH thanks Cad. It's a new power we haven't seen before! Caleb knows gravity fissure now, apparently! Fjord and Veth also considered using new abilities before the break. Jester used contagion on Lucien! It was a nice try.

5. They get some sort of contact with/update from the material plane (i.e. their family, Yussa, or anybody else I guess just not Trent please), it’s been a while I wonder what’s going on over there. Has Jester’s parent trap succeeded fully yet? Has the assembly been investigated yet? Has Yussa figured out what the Nein did with his emergency exit gift? How are Yeza and Luc doing in the crime bar? Is the Dynasty looking into Essek? So many possibilities.

6. The M9 succeed in stopping the city from going to the material plane and find a way to potentially destroy it by the end of the episode.

It appears that them plane shifting the crest away actually does ensure that the city cannot return to the material plane, that's great news! Also, I assume destroying Lucien would be a good first step to destroying the city.

7. Beau and Yasha continue to fight like the power couple they are and to indulge in PDA in the flesh horror city (because why not). Bonus: we find out Yasha’s plans for Beau’s red cape/the cape is used by Beau in the episode.

The discussion between Beau, Yasha and Veth LMAO. Oh NO Yasha is fighting Beau again - that natural 1 though! The miss! Another natural 1! The power of love!!!! Yasha also used the battle cry to protect Beau!

8. Fjord and Jester continue to be domestic and supportive of each other in these trying times because they are great. Bonus: more Sprinkle/Artagan mentions or interactions.

Jester and Fjord starting strong with the dirty/natural 20's! Also "I'd rather you wear it" "Fjord, it's so expensive!" They are so cute. Ayy Sprinkle/Artagan both got fed the Heroes' Feast! The excitement over the ring finally working lol. "Imma cast it at 4th level" lol Jester really tried her best to remove his slow and it worked!

9. Obligatory wish for Essek’s fancy dunamancy or magical items (Bonus: STILL hoping to see more high-damage AOE offensive spells that Essek has never cast because of the party placement, dark star anybody?).

The trapped haste spell MmmMm. GRAVITY FISSURE YAY hot spell flavour is hot. THANK YOU for that dispel magic on Yasha Essek you are the best. Nice magic missile but he is out in the open oh nO he is charmed oh no is he going to dark star the party?? Wheww thank you Caleb for the dispel, at fifth level too! He was so going to dark star Lucien if Cad was not pulled.

10. Obligatory wish for Caleb’s polymorph spell on himself or a party member. Actually, let’s expand to any party member’s polymorph! Give me those sweet polymorph interactions.

11. The party tries to reach Lucien by mentioning Molly and Lucien actually having a physical reaction to their words.

Wow that was a physical reaction alright, definitely to Jester and Caleb's mention of Molly's name. Jester's song also had an effect. Everybody is trying yay! Well, it was worth a try. BEAU'S bonus action Gustuv talk made him lose a legendary action WOW. Fjord's, Caleb's attempt also succeeded. In round 2, Beau removed 1 legendary action, followed by Jester

12. Obligatory wish for Essek’s room in the tower (it will stay until it happens).

CAD what a good pep talk I love you. Path to the grave and also the reaction war caster blight, very nice.

14. I NEED MORE RP PLEASE like last week’s high intensity combat was fun but I miss one-on-one conversations give them to me thank you. Longer conversations are even better.

NVM we are doing the boss fight right now, however there was a lot of Molly RP involved.

15. Everybody being super freaked out/creeped out by the terrible flesh city thanks to Matt’s wonderfully detailed and awesome descriptions.

The damaged state of the city, how it leans towards Lucien's cocoon thing and Lucien's transformation... OH NO the stalks not the tentacle stalks.

16. At least one of the party members get mind-influenced/charmed by some effect during the combat (well at least Caleb’s got mind blank and Veth got intellect fortress, but I would be surprised if there was no mind shenanigans).

Well, I knew it would happen. Gaudius, the eye of longing/love that did not affect Beau DID charm Yasha with a failed wis save and Yasha attacked Beau, again. However thanks to Essek it didn't last long!

17. Somebody check in a bit on Essek’s mental state because he is clearly not entirely desensitized as seen from last episode. At least he got a full rest so physically he is fine (just squishy, like wizards are).

Hey Essek got to open up a little bit before their final fight, so that was great.

18. Caleb uses more fire or his customized spells or just any cool spells in general I guess because what’s sexier than wizards NOTHING I’m still hyped from last week.

Gravity fissure already?? Sweet max damage, despite the save! Caleb you can literally just copy any spell you see cast can't you, high int wizard I love you. Also the use of that potion and the scroll were pretty smart too.

19. We learn more about Lucien’s motives and what he is actually trying to do, or more about the Somnovem’s different? motives because I was very confused last episode. Lucien wants to “parent” the Somnovem by bombing them with 10 intuit charges, like okay are you sure you are not trying to kill them? Then again, if that doesn’t severely damage the Somnovem I don’t know what will.

Well we now know that Lucien has all the Somnovem power inside himself now and is still very much wanting to bring back the city - at least he can't right now because of the threshold crest they got rid of last session. This clarifies a lot. I guess the "parenting" was to weaken the Somnovem for him to absorb them all into himself?

20. Obligatory wish for everyone to remain relatively happy and alive by the end of the episode except Lucien, and the episode ends on a terrifying cliffhanger as always.

I mean, should have known that Lucien cannot be killed in 1 session. Otherwise though, what an episode! What a session! Absolutely amazing.

Bonus:

ESSEK IS MAKING A JOKE LMAO I can't with this man, he is also giving everybody spells/gifts, cute - I guess wizards all have the save love language.

CALEB IS ABOVE 100 HP thank you Jester for that 17 roll from Heroes' Feast! I knew you'd do it. The feast was so crucial in their combat too, what a queen. Caleb always be covering his friends in his anti-aberration cone, and burning Lucien's legendary reactions. Great moves.

Veth are you... horny for Lucien??? LMAO

OH NO Gaudius on Essek this is the alternative Essek bossfight timeline OH NO but at the same time YES the angst- oh nvm Caleb thanks lol.

i’m super excited to announce i am finally going to be offering astrological readings again! i’m also going to be offering a few different tarot readings & mixed astro-tarot readings as well! below the cut is full information on readings offered, prices (all in $CAD), important notes, and so forth. thank you so much for your continued support on my blog and content, and i appreciate so much anyone who may consider and order a reading from me! i can’t wait to provide you guys with more insight to your astrological makeup, and hopefully give you a better overall understanding of how astrological placements function in general. i also hope to give you great insight via tarot and oracle as well.

NOTE: readings will close once i fill up a certain amount of slots (undecided rn, but likely stopping around fifteen-twenty), please check my bio or status in this post (see directly below) on whether or not readings are currently open before requesting! i will make sure to frequently update the status of readings, and will try to re-open them soon after they close. it is likely that when i start my new FT job in november that i may have to close readings for a bit or accept less reading slots :)

💥 RULES AND IMPORTANT NOTES TO READ FIRST:

must be 18 or over to receive a reading (apologies but i do not feel comfortable reading for minors/receiving their birth information)

i default my readings in the PLACIDUS or equal house system (i do this dependent on your place of birth; for more info feel free to DM). if you prefer/relate more to another system, let me know! i am happy to read your chart in another house system (if you’re new to astrology, i recommend looking at the different planetary house placements in your chart in whole sign system, placidus system and equal house system - see which you relate to most - the easiest to tell by is usually the venus & moon house placement, just search up some basic descriptions of the varying placement of moon/venus. i prefer equal and placidus; lately i lean more towards equal)

i use tropical/western astrology, with both modern and traditional rulers

my readings come in either written or audio format, it’s entirely up to you. both audio and written readings contain the same depth and amount of information. audio readings are supplemented by summarized/bullet points of topics covered but note they do not have written in-depth interpretations like the written natal chart reading would (but i do break down my audio readings with time stamps for easy navigation)

tarot readings and mixed tarot/astro readings can also be done via video if you’d like to see the cards as they come out/etc; please note tarot-only readings are not supplemented with writing/notes if you order them audio or video style

full natal chart + personal planet + progressions readings can be customized to an extent: for example, if you’re not interested in romance, let me know before i do your reading! i’ll focus more on friendships and business when touching on connections/partnerships/venus/etc. or, if for example, you’re more interested in romance, i can highlight those things when interpreting your planets and aspects! this goes for any topics/themes: career, finance, love, friendship, etc. just let me know your specific interests, or things you don’t like talking about (ie: you have zero interest in romance), so i can make your reading more tailored to your preferences. if you have any triggers (ie: do not want family talked about, do not want s*xual topics [sorry i have to add the * or i’ll get shadowbanned again lol😭] talked about, etcetc please let me know! it is never any problem to accommodate this)

✨ ASTROLOGY-ONLY READINGS

1. full natal chart reading (must have birth time) $50-70

tier one, $50:

interpretations of all planets (sign + house)

interpretations of ascendant, midheaven, descendant, ic (fourth house)

interpretations of any stelliums, “high energy” houses (maybe not a stellium- but a house with multiple planets/asteroids in it) and lack of an element/modality (or abundance/excess of)

tier two, $70, includes everything in tier 1, plus:

interpretations of every house, even if the house is empty

interpretations of strong / major aspects (main focus on squares & quincunx for lessons, blockages, secret strengths / areas of growth, etc - but any other strong/prevalent aspects will be covered)

interpretations of the following asteroids (sign/house/aspects): north/south nodes, chiron & juno

interpretations of interceptions and duplications if applicable

interpretation of yods and t-squares if applicable

2. full natal chart reading (no birth time) $35

interpretation of all planets (sign)

interpretation of all major aspects (minus moon aspects)

information on any stelliums, lack of an element/modality (or abundance/excess of)

3. personal planets reading (birth time: $30, no birth time $20)

interpretations of sun through mars in the signs (and in the houses if you have birth time)

any standout aspects to the personals are interpreted (moon aspects not available if you don’t have birth time)

4. current astrological progress, focus, etc (”consultation”) $60

this reading is the one i’m most excited for! 🤍 this reading looks at your current transits as well as your progressed chart and solar return chart to determine where you currently are in your stage of astrological development and focus. we will discuss your progressed placements, kind of like a natal reading, and explain how they may be guiding, impacting and influencing you. we will also go over your current transits, their potential lessons, predictions based on your progressions & transits (long-term), and kind of get a full guide on what to expect, what to focus on, blockages, etc.

this consultation is interactive! so i welcome you to ask any questions before or after the reading that you’re curious on (i ask for a maximum of five or so *intense* questions though - clarification questions and small questions are totally fine more frequently). you can ask things like “what will happen over the next year in my love life” or “what are the biggest lessons for me this year”, etc. this reading is meant specifically for gaining insight into upcoming events and themes in your life. i use your natal chart, transit chart, solar return & progressed chart. you NEED accurate birth time for this reading. you also need to be comfortable giving me both your birth place and where you will be (city-wise) on your next birthday (or last birthday, depending on which was closer; for the solar return chart).

please note however, this does not include any in-depth interpretation of your natal chart, if you’re interested in that you are going to want the first reading! it is also consultation style; i of course will interpret placements but it is more a “what to expect & focus on” type of reading, than a “this means (x)” type of reading. if you have more information of questions about this or any other reading, shoot me a DM anytime!

5. love reading $15

focuses on self-love, friendship & romantic love. this reading focuses on the planets, aspects, asteroids, houses that center around themes of love and connection in all forms (namely juno, venus, moon, 5th/7th/8th houses, etc). it will go over your wants in love versus needs, blockages in love and things to look out for, weaknesses versus strengths, the type of person that would likely best suit you as a friend or partner, etc. please note it’s recommended that you have your birth time for this reading, since it relies on house placements (however i am able to provide this reading w/o birth time).

i plan for this reading to likely be around three or so pages but knowing my rambling it may be longer lol.

6. blockages, development and growth reading $15

this astrological reading focuses heavily on the learning points and blockages present within your natal chart. specifically, this will have heavy focus on squares, oppositions, quincunxes, yods, interceptions, saturn placement, jupiter placement, sun placement 12th house + draconic chart. i will go over areas of struggle, blocks, and areas that likely need development and heavy focus based on your natal chart. i recommend the above progressed reading if you want a more extensive view on this with consideration to current transits and progressions. please note it’s recommended that you have your birth time for this reading, since it relies on house placements (however i am able to provide this reading w/o birth time).

this astrological reading focuses on your “purpose”. mainly highlighting placements like the north/south node, 3rd/9th houses, ascendant-midheaven, and sun/mars/mercury/uranus, we cover ideal careers, paths, and purposes for you. this will cover potential issues and blockages when it comes to work, career and study; as well as when achieving your purpose. it also points towards specific fields, industries, areas of study, etc that you are best suited for and guided towards astrologically. please note it’s recommended that you have your birth time for this reading, since it relies on house placements (however i am able to provide this reading w/o birth time).

This is the part of the process where Mercury moves into Scorpio and begins to brood incessantly over the various resentments it has discovered - in others as well as in itself. What does it mean if all those Capricorn placements don’t want to harmonize or negotiate?

What’s intriguing (to me) is that the aspects Mercury is going to make, are bracketed by a conjunction to Juno and a sextile to Venus - both of which entities are associated with the sign Libra, which is where Mercury began this Rx Zone. It could mean that we need to try harder to get along with others. It could also mean that “getting along with others” doesn’t necessarily translate into “letting others have their own way for the sake of peace.” What do you think?

Wednesday, September 30, 06:05 UT - Juno/Scorpio conjunct Mercury/Scorpio, 3:11 (3 degrees, 11 minutes)

First of three, with #2 happening on Oct. 19 and #3 on Nov. 26 (after Mercury has exited the Rx shadow; also Thanksgiving Day in the US, hmmm).

When these two planet type thingies get together, writes Demetra George (Asteroid Goddesses), we are “learning to listen without judgement to another’s point of view.” It gives us (if we want it to) the ability to communicate with clarity to our partners, which in turn contributes to increased intimacy. Since this is the first of three conjunctions, we may become aware of a situation or of circumstances which indicate some difficulty in communicating effectively.

But I’m intrigued by Juno being the symbol for the powerless - Demetra’s list includes “women, battered wives, abused children, victims, minorities, disabled, victims of sexual violence.” And I’m also aware that Juno is associated with the atmosphere. Climate refugees, anyone?

If you aren’t in a relationship right now, you may want to channel this energy towards learning about issues related to those topics. How can you help powerless people find their voice? (Not speak for them.)

Thursday, October 1, 15:49 UT - Mercury’s greatest eastern elongation, 4:36 Scorpio

The “greatest eastern elongation” is something that happens exclusively to Mercury and Venus - the two planets whose orbits lie between the Sun and the Earth. It means that the planet has moved as far ahead of the Sun, in the Zodiac, as it’s going to get. (That’s about 28 degrees for Mercury and 48 for Venus, but not always exactly that.)

It’s similar to the Last Quarter lunar phase, in which we turn away from old constructs that no longer work for us - mental constructs, in Mercury’s case.

Scorpio tends to hang on to things for too long - the sign has sometimes been described, in older books, as “Scorpio would rather sting itself to death, rather than give up the pleasure of stinging.” Eeek. Check out your brains for something along these lines, and turn away from it.

First of three, with #2 on Oct. 22 and #3 on Nov. 15. Making adjustments due to woundedness over communications, is the bare bones interpretation of this aspect. Sometimes I wonder what’s worse, getting hurt, or being the reason for someone else’s hurt. This may also play out as becoming physically ill due to those hurt feelings.

Tuesday, October 6, 03:21 UT - North Node/Gemini (23:27) sesquare Mercury/Scorpio (8:27); South Node/Sagittarius (23:27) semi-square Mercury/Scorpio(8:27)

Another three-peat, alas and alack; #2 on Oct. 21 and #3 on Nov. 15. Since the North Node in Gemini is the overall “vibe” we’re all supposed to be striving toward, and since Mercury is the ruler of Gemini, you just hate to see this conflict. We’re on a course to discover which of our resentments and our stubbornly cherished notions, keep us from attaining that North Node goal.

Another three-peat, with #2 on Oct. 19 and #3 on Nov. 17.

Mercury enters its “Storm” period today - i.e., it’s moving less than 40 minutes per day. According to Llewellyn, “The Storm acts like the retrograde. Not favorable for new projects - just follow through with the items that are already on your plate. Write down new ideas with date and time they occurred.” And what a way to start out, with an opposition to Uranus. Did you know that Uranus is said to be the “higher octave” of Mercury? Which I have always taken to mean “this is what Mercury wants to be when it grows up.” Here, Uranus may be slapping down little Merc from any pretensions to even approaching Uranus’ levels.

Remember, oppositions work through other people. Someone else is refusing to budge, perhaps? Someone not only won’t take back what they said, they’re doubling down?

Placements affected lie between 8:37 and 10:37 of the fixed signs Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius; and between 23:37 and 25:37 of the mutable signs Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces.

Monday, October 12, 16:39 UT - Venus/Virgo sextile Mercury/Scorpio, 11:33

Unlike most of what’s gone on before now, this is a one-and-done sextile. Some quiet words of friendly advice, maybe? Venus is in Mercury’s sign, but she isn’t comfortable there at all - Virgo is Venus’ fall. She may have a different, fresher perspective to shed on what for Mercury may be “standard operating procedure.” We’re lucky to have a flowing aspect to finish up this section of Mercury Retrograde, but Virgo is quiet and doesn’t put herself forward - and the sextile itself is a “take it or leave it” aspect. We’re going to have to pay close attention, to be able to take advantage of the situation.

Thanks to the hardworking Octavinelle students, the stalls that lined the side street of Night Raven College towards the coliseum were bursting with customers. Azul, as head of the Magical Shift Managing Committee had planned everything to perfection, from determining the prices of each stall, as well as the placement.

“Third years,” Azul read off of a clipboard, the rest of Octavinelle on the grassy field before him, awaiting his orders. Each person would have a part to play in making sure that the displays would sell their merchandise without a hitch. “You will be floating amongst the outside merchant’s stalls, checking to see if they are selling at the pace at which we expect. Any establishments that are not meeting the average pace of 5 items per 20 minutes will not be invited back next year, so we must keep record.”

“Tch, why do we gotta listen to this second-year brat-” “Shh, man, you don’t want to anger the Leeches, do you? Just listen to the Dorm Leader.” “Yeah, but without those two, he’s nothing.”

The hushed whispers that came from the third years weren’t going unnoticed, but neither did Azul regard them as a threat. After all, it wasn’t anything he wasn’t used to hearing all his life. Azul looked up from his clipboard. “Vice Dorm Leader Jade will be your point of contact, supervising and keeping a running log. You will all answer to him on this.”

Azul looked back down to his clipboard. “Second years, same, but with the club stalls. Make sure that they also know that they are to meet the selling pace of 2 items per 30 minutes, or they will be charged a heftier fee to participate in the stalls next year. We are losing prime estate to clubs that could go to outside merchants, so they need to be able to perform just as well.” He glances at the group of second years over his glasses, watching them squirm, knowing what question was hovering on their lips. He gave a sly smile. “I will be your point of contact for this one, especially as one of the stalls belongs to my Boardgame Club.”

A breath of relief spread through the second years as they all eyed the remaining group of first years who were now shifting uncomfortably in their shoes. If Jade and Azul would be looking after the third and second years…

Azul continued. “Finally, we have the first years. You all will be responsible with directions, making sure to keep the customers within the confines of the street stalls. We want them to buy as much as possible, of course. Whenever possible, try to direct a customer back to another stall, using whatever means necessary. If any of them get unruly, you may direct them to Floyd, who will be your point of contact today. He will make sure to quell any disturbances.”

Floyd gave a gleeful chuckle and a wave towards the first years. Even those who had only been at the school a few months new better than to cross him, but as long as his attention would be turned onto the customers and not them, perhaps this wouldn’t be too terrible.

“Alright,” Jade said, clapping his hands together while Azul magicked his clipboard away. “We all have our assignments, let us make this year’s sales better than last year. I am sure that this tournament will be quite exciting, we can’t keep our customers waiting, fufufu.”

The three walked down the narrow street between the street stalls, keeping an eye on the customers and the merchants. Things were going swimmingly, sales piling up, and the customers happily staying in lines.

“Ah, the number of customers this year has grown from last year. Wonderful. Jade, make sure to keep a proper running tally of that as well.” Azul smugly reminded his friend. “We can’t allow any of the clubs to pretend like they are sold out just because they are overwhelmed.”

“Of course, Azul.” Jade affirmed. “Also, preparations for the other thing have been finished. Your client received your magical potion and should be pleased of the outcome, fufufu.”

“Eeehhh? What’s going to happen? Tell me~” Floyd pouted, as the three of them walked off the street, to more safer pastures.

It wouldn’t be long before a princely scheme would be enacted, a stampede that would change the course of the afternoon.

I did not watch any of the big 5 or the Dutch rehearsal/jury videos so I'll be watching those whole for the first time. (I probably should have watched them. Oops. Too late now!)

I really have no idea who will win. Kind of makes it exciting!

What's a little weird with my setup is how much "sharper" the music sounds on my speakers.

What's funny for me here is that the Belgian song is growing on me on this third listen. I like it more each time. (This might actually make my Eurovision AND Hooverphonic playlist!) With the other songs I was... like I didn't feel the level of "excitement" I felt when I watched them earlier this week.

5. Russia

Oh yeah! This is another one I'm liking more on a second viewing. I like her expressiveness. This is never not interesting. And an enthusiastic response there.

6. Malta

Maltese Lizzo. I know this is very popular with the ESC crowd and I get it but it doesn't personally register with me. I think it's the speed. It's like the same fast speed and mostly same level of "noise." Crowd really loooooves it though. Might just be my own autistic sound processing issues.

7. Portugal

I still am impressed with how well-structured this is. I'll probably forget the song next week but when it was being performed I never lost interest.

8. Serbia

They seem so wholesome in their postcard. Hmm, singing doesn't sound as good on my speakers. This is like the first 3 songs for me.

Kind of sucks performing early because it hurts you with the vote but at least you get to sit back easy and watch the rest of the show.

I still feel very conflicted about how to feel about Junior ESC. Lots of pressure to put on children.

Jamala, Emmelie de Forest, Duncan Laurence on where they keep their awards... nope, Nikkie, I'm not gonna check out the live blog. I like the ESC but even I have to draw a line somewhere.

9. United Kingdom

First time watching. I don't understand these British songwriters who perform their own songs and yet... like, it doesn't sound ideally suited to their own voices. It was okay but it's another one I'll forget in a week.

10. Greece

Well, I didn't get to watch this properly the first time so here goes: I don't like the huge reliance on effects but it's BEHIND her so it's completely acceptable to me. I think this would've worked better for me if the dancing was "more [active?]" since it's a fast song about dancing.

The hosts briefly have to tell us something for some reason.

Hmm, apparently a lot of my sound issue is that the rear speakers are coming through louder.

11. Switzerland

This is playing much better for me today than it did the other day. The overall performance is better. I don't like the epilepsy-inducing light though. That's my only complaint. Well done!

12. Iceland

Well, literally the same exact performance we watched the other day but it was fun so... and my viewing experience is slightly different so... Hmm.. what I'm really feeling right now is a song placement thing. We went from intense to chill and that energy change is a bit much for me.

13. Spain

This song does not have a strong hook. I ... can't remember the song and it only just finished.

14. Moldova

I honestly don't think this song would've made it through the first SF. I just don't care for it. I think I spent most of the performance looking at the dancers when that was an option.

15. Germany

This feels like a cross between a Moldovan and a San Marino entry. I dunno, I enjoyed it. I wouldn't watch it again though.

I do also understand that part of watching this as an American is that I don't ever have to feel embarrassment that I'm being represented through any of these performances.

16. Finland

Now that I know that this is like this I'm totally not interested. I'd probably feel very differently if I was in the same space as these guys because it's a SHOW!

And another break. Oh, the broadcaster boxes. I always assume that they're going to harass Graham Norton but they're actually visiting the Danes right now. And the Russians.

17. Bulgaria

I remember this postcard from the other day because of the menagerie this girl has. This song is also growing on me. I was confused about the lyrics the other day but now am experiencing them as playful. Feeling the "production" of this one.

18. Lithuania

It's hard for me because I really liked "On Fire." I'm really enjoying this the second time and a really great, entertaining performance. And maybe it's in a better place during the night.

Hosts talking about the app. They're really hammering this whole "clap along" thing (which I haven't found on the app because I'm probably too old to care).

19. Ukraine

This song is a trip. Bangy-est banger of the night. You just never know.

20. France

You know, this comes off as something the juries would love to award. Damn, girl! You know, I wasn't impressed when they showed the short clip at the end of the SF. You really have to watch the whole thing.

21. Azerbaijan

Seems more appropriate to sing about Mata Hari than Cleopatra in the Netherlands when you think about it. It could be because I've already seen this before but I'm still processing France. There's also something about this staging that makes them look small on the stage to me.

22. Norway

I don't know why I find him adorable but I do. This song feels like a hug. (Or it's the "feathers." LOL)

23. The Netherlands

I was into it until the last 30 when it got really repetitive but that's still an overall like.

24. Italy

I really can't predict anything. I dig this but we've sort of filled a quota for intensity for the night.

25. Sweden

I'm just kind of like....of course Sweden has the Rijksmuseum postcard. It's like the most recognizable place in all of these postcards. And be near the end of the show. I'll be honest: I'm just predisposed to be against Sweden. Ugh, epilepsy light. I can't even look at the screen. Also, I liked Russia's "A Million Voices" in 2015. I'm guessing this song did not look like this at Melodifestivalen because it's really looking terrible on my tv. This is the worst visual presentation of the night.

26. San Marino

Honestly wondering how well San Marino is gonna finish this year. This felt more awesome the first time. Well, also Flo Rida delightfully surprised me the first time.

And how our hosts telling us about the importance of voting. I have no idea how these are going to pan out. I just know that if I was voting I think I'd throw my votes at Ukraine and France...while feeling bad that I'm not throwing some at Bulgaria, Iceland, Lithuania or Switzerland. (I also liked Russia but I wouldn't vote for them.) I mean, I liked Italy but... I don't know. I think I ran out of energy by then.

Really think it's that Ukraine and France just zapped my energy for energetic songs. The only one I felt after those was the hug of Norway. Or maybe Norway lulled me. LOL.

Would be interested in the televotes for some of these countries.

December 2020 Dates

This grueling year is almost over...what lies in store for its final month? For one thing, a lot of big changes all at once towards the middle/end of the month. (Image and the bulk of information taken from The Astrology Podcast’s monthly video, so dates are based off U.S. time zones--if you’re in the Eastern Hemisphere it may be a day earlier)

As I’m writing this there’s a full moon and lunar eclipse in Gemini, whose effects will reverberate for awhile. (Anyone interested in pictures I took of it?) Additionally, Neptune has only been direct in Pisces for a few days going into the new month.

!November 30: Full Moon & Lunar Eclipse in Gemini! Moon at 8 degrees Gemini; lunar nodes (Moon’s path) have shifted to the Gemini-Sagittarius axis this summer--when the Sun or Moon cross each other’s paths this creates an eclipse.

Expect hidden information to be revealed--even moreso than a regular new moon. We may seek lots of information, but end up overwhelmed through it. This eclipse is also conjunct the royal star Aldebaran, indicating major changes for people who are powerful, especially because of their possessions (thinking the current US president experiencing changes, though both major candidates & VPs have significant Gemini/Sag placements affected by this). Things may move more quickly between now and the next eclipse.

December 1: Mercury enters Sagittarius After retrogrades in Scorpio & Libra for months, Mercury is truly in new territory!

!December 14: New Moon & Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius! 23 degrees Sagittarius--coinciding with Biden’s rising sign and that of the U.S. chart (July 4, 1776 around 5PM) on the day the electoral college votes.

Because it’s a New Moon and close to the South Node, we can expect the end of a a cycle or journey--check your Sagittarius house. This eclipse’s ruler Jupiter is about to leave Capricorn but will not enter Aquarius for a few days, so things aren’t going to completely wrap up. It’s the first set of eclipses on the Gemini-Sagittarius axis, so this emptiness or clearing out will precipitate some new activity in those areas. Perhaps travel will be affected--air travel became heavily restricted last time the South node was in Sagittarius was 2001.

December 15: Venus enters Sagittarius Venus will join Mercury here, also treading new ground.

!December 17: Saturn enters Aquarius! He’s been in Capricorn for three years now, thought we got a little preview of it a few months ago before he went retrograde. He’ll no longer be making difficult aspects to Mars, which is reason for hope. Once again Saturn is domicile, this time in his diurnal/extroverted expression. He will also be squaring Uranus in Taurus, who wants to enact bombastic, Promethean changes. He’ll stop sharing a sign with Pluto (though still conjunct for awhile), signaling a light at the end of the tunnel for the "disease-ridden totalitarian nightmare” that these once-in-40-years contacts indicate.

What structures of the past are crumbling, and what will the structures of the future look like? Aquarius makes people think of experimenting and limitless possibilities, but keep in mind that airy, Saturnian Aquarius just as concerned with rules as Capricorn was--but now it’s a matter of determining our new M.O.

!December 19: Jupiter enters Aquarius! Sun conjunct Mercury in Sagittarius Jupiter has spent a year trekking through Capricorn and will soon join Saturn. As the major benefic, he may have a stabilizing effect on Saturn’s transit this time, or he may simply amplify the effects. This will also indicate Jupiter returns for those of you with Jupiter in Aquarius natally, so look out for artistic inspiration or crises of faith in this area of your chart.

December 20: Mercury enters Capricorn Look to your natal chart for where communication may be highlighted.

December 21 (Solstice): Sun enters Capricorn Cardinal signs, especially Cap suns, will be happy to celebrate the first birthday in 3 years that doesn’t have Saturn looming over it. Eclipses have also been hitting cardinal signs the past few years, and will now be in mutable signs.

!!!December 21: Jupiter and Saturn conjunct in Aquarius!!! These planets are only closely conjunct about every 20 years. This particular lineup is a rare “great conjunction” where they will look like almost one star. Jupiter will remain in Aquarius for a year and Saturn for about two.The effects may appear on the day itself in headlines and such, but the effects are more slowly moving at a personal level for sure.

Does this mean we’re entering the Age of Aquarius? Well, it depends on who you ask. The Age is generally defined by the precession of the equinoxes shifting, which technically won’t happen for another 700 years or so. Personally I think we’re getting a preview of it, since we’re in the last quarter of a 2000-year cycle where the vernal equinox is in the constellation Pisces, and because there is debate as to where the “ages” start considering the irregular breadth of the constellations themselves, I’m not going to completely dismiss the idea that we’re headed for changes in human consciousness.

We’re definitely entering an Aquarian period of time for the next 20 years. And for the next 200 years Jupiter and Saturn will be conjunct only in air signs, so we will be entering an era of air as well. Austin predicts a cyberpunk dystopia (LOL). This air cycle may indicate that we are using the Internet in even more ways,and that rules and limitations in these spheres will come forward.

Additionally, Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions only occur in air signs every 800 years or so. Historically time periods like this often align with prophets or major historical figures with changes worldwide--so we can still expect some major shifts.

December 23: Mars in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn (not pictured) Third of three. Moon will be conjunct Mars as well--very hot and combustible. This may bring up frustrations and conflicts with control and power dynamics, but with subtle, structural issues. Personally this may be an irritating couple days for us. Mars is speeding up in December and will exit his retrograde shadow in January.

December 29: Full Moon in Cancer The first time in a few years Saturn won’t be looming over this! The Moon is in domicile here so it may be nourishing. Not configured to benefics or malefics (will square Mars in a day or two) and this may finally be kind of nice. Venus will also square Neptune around this time, so relationships and other Venusian activities may be dreamy and idealisitc.

Fresh new chapters will begin to open up in 2021--we’re experiencing the end of an era in multiple ways here.
