The fact that most people in the Marauders fandom deliberately ignore that Snape was also part of that generation, or only acknowledge the character to bash him or portray him as a complete weird stalker while whitewashing literal psychopaths and serial killers, or giving prominence to characters that are just a name and a surname in the saga without a defined personality, isn’t surprising. And it’s not surprising because if they had to give Snape the place and relevance he deserves in that generation, or at least a fair treatment, they would have to admit that, in fact, yes, he was a victim of bullying and abuse, and that the Marauders were his perpetrators. They would have to accept that the characters they idolise so much were actually bastards and bullies. And of course, that doesn’t suit them, it’s much easier to make up the story than to confront reality.

Hiya! I haven't had much time to draw lately but I wanted to share an Anne design for you guys!

Story Ideas/ Notes for Anne:

When Anne was 15, she was found hiding in a pond by Rosemarie "Marie" Plantar (aka Mama Plantar), who took her in and nursed her back to health.

After a month or so, they decided that she needed real clothes and made them for her as an anniversary.

Anne was really good with 8 year old Sprig but wasn't really sure what to do with 2 year old Polly. Tadpoles aren't all that for physical affection or conversation, so she mostly left her alone in the beginning.

The oldest Plantar child was there when the herons attack. She was responsible for protecting the children inside Stumpy's, stepping up to protect them and keep them from panicking. When she saw one of the Flour triplets swimming outside trying to get to their parents, Anne dove in to save her, using just a hint of her calamity powers for the first time.

Unfortunately, many of the kids' parents died in that attack, including the Plantar parents. Hop Pop and, to a lesser extent Anne, would need to fill the hole to the best of their ability.

Design Notes:

The patches and the cloth she's using to tie her hair up are from the clothes she came to Amphibia in.

This is a rough draft o__O I'm tweaking colors and I think I need to make her hat bigger, but her design has always remained the most consistent

It's a bit hard to tell since I shaded the heck out of it, but Anne's eyes are #96a4fd, which is a light blueish purple color, like a pastel indigo

Sakura has dreams and nightmares, although most of the time he only remembers snippets. Prone to gasping awake or shooting up into sitting position during nightmares. The type to have dreams about his friends and feel like they’re at fault for what happened. Once he had a dream Nirei stole his food and he wouldn’t let Nirei sit next to him during lunch the next day without telling him specifically he better back off his sandwiches.

Whenever Hiragi has a nightmare, stomach cramping follows. Whether it’s his stomach causing them or them causing further stomach distress, he’ll never know, but he has tea and medicine to settle down before trying again. Mumbles in his sleep on occasion, and it’s really kind of cute.

It’s no surprise Umemiya is a dreamer. Sure maybe once in a blue moon he’ll have a bad one, but for the most part they’re really weird and silly. Loves to talk about them at breakfast the next morning, recounting his time flying with a penguin, or being chased by trolls. He remembers the whole thing usually, though he’s such a deep sleeper that once he’s worn himself out enough and has one of those big, drool inducing rests, he just sleeps with no dreams to be had.

Suo is vague, beats around the bush, and generally likes to joke around. When he tells his friends he dreams in black and white? He’s actually telling the truth! He doesn't have good or bad dreams often, but when he does, he likes to laugh about them in the morning. Something about them looking like he’s watching an old movie makes them all the more funny.

Kaji has nightmares more than dreams, but mostly he sleeps without either. He’ll be in a shit mood the next day though, because the nightmare will have him tossing and turning, trying to find the comfiest spot on the bed that seems to have disappeared in the hour or so it took him to be woken by it. Another sleep mumbler. He can actually sleep with his music blasting in his ears pretty easily too!

Kotoha dreams most of the time. She’ll exchange sleep stories with Ume, but hers always seem to be a little tamer than his. Has a diffuser that cycles through colored lights she’ll put on if she has a dream she deems ‘not great’ and a stuffed dragon her siblings got her that guards her dreams on the nightstand next to her bed. Sometimes she’ll have it on the pillow next to her for no particular reason; it’s just soothing (and so soft and cute.)

Before I knew what I know now about Robin (Dick Grayson in particular) I used to think that the whole "Batman is Robin's father" was a very popular interpretation that wasn't actually canon and people just thought it was cool. I also thought it was cool, so whenever I saw something of the Teen Titans (2003) I was always like "I wish Robin saw Batman as his dad. Idc if he has parents, Batman is so much cooler :("

That "least favorite companion" post I referenced earlier today keeps haunting me.

Because... well, it was obvious that many would say Oghren. I expected many to have said Oghren.

But it still makes me a little bit sad just how much of Oghren's depth and potential was lost by him being written as a "comic relief" character that both fell flat, and aged poorly.

I remember, the first time I played Origins when I was like 17-18, I was a bit put off by him immediately: he reminded me of people I knew in real life, and were not people I liked, or was proud to know. I was a little disappointed that I'd have to have him in my party for the last part of "Paragon of Her Kind". But that short little scene, where he first steps out under the open sky...

That scene, I still think about regularly.

The moment he casts off his caste, the last thing he still genuinely had. When he first looks up at the sky, and realizes just how vast and open it is. When he takes that step he knows would mean that he can never go back.

That tiny little scene, less than a minute long, made not just him, but my own Aeducan click for me immediately.

Because Oghren is a clear failure of the caste system. Or better said, a failure of dwarven society, really.

He's a castoff, a reject, a lost cause: a once respected warrior, a famed dwarven berserker and husband to a Paragon, who fell through the cracks because he fell out of his house's favor.

Because he got hit hard by his wife and his whole family leaving him behind. Because he got too hard to deal with, too embarrassing.

So under the carpet he went, in both his own mind and everyone else's.

Oghren's, is... an ordinary tragedy. A story of an everyday struggle for men like him (lonely, middle aged, depressed), with feelings that are quietly shoved to the side, joked about, tamped down by both him, and the people around him- and him not being “likeable”, well... isn't that just the way it usually is? People who are suffering are sometimes genuinely not good people.

And despite his best efforts, I can't bring myself to dislike him. I don't like having him in my party because I don't find him funny like he was clearly intended to be, and a lot of his dialogue, I find deeply frustrating and off-putting (in Origins and Awakening alike), but... I can't bring myself to dislike him.

I just... feel sad for him, more than anything else. Because in a few rare moments, there is loyalty. There's honor. Care. Sadness. Even humor when it's allowed to be there, beneath the very 2009 "sexual harassment is totally funny you guys".

There is a lot to talk about regarding Oghren, starting with mental health, and ending with the typical dwarven mentality being to cut ties with what they perceive to be lost causes (which also goes for Kal-Sharok, really), but... I can't shake this feeling that had he been written a few years later, with a touch slightly more careful than the ones with which he was originally handled, he could have been so much more.

..... Though I suppose there's some poetic irony in how the character who was let down by his people would also be one that was let down by his time.

The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that Mary Hatford was a girlkisser, because how else would she be convinced that girls are dangerous? Look at one of Neil's thoughts about kissing Andrew from TKM:

"This was distraction and indiscretion, avoidance and denial [...] something he she shouldn't have and couldn't keep" sounds very much like a teenager in the closet facing both internalized and their parents' homophobia. And I'm betting most of those words came from Mary.

Don't mind me picturing 16-year-old Mary secretly meeting an aristocrat's daughter in the rose garden at Hatford Manor, no flowers yet in the February cold. Or the girls getting caught, Mary just shy of turning 18, and her father immediately starting to look for eligible mafia heirs to marry her off to.

Him eventually finding Nathan Wesninski: the son of a prominent drug empire; young, charming, efficient. Most importantly, an ocean away from the bitch that deviated his daughter. Most terrifyingly, with a secret penchant for beating up his wife and child.

So what if Mary equates falling for a girl with falling into Nathan's grasp? It would explain that she reacted so violently, because I'm sure Neil must have made friends and (as far as I remember) he never mentions her hitting him for that.

Disclaimer just in case: I do not condone Mary hitting Neil, this is just a theory of what might have been going through her head when she saw him kiss the Canadian girl.
