I have no idea what Amaranthine is, but this looks amazing!
Old Wounds
So excited to finally post this comic collab between @chocodile and I! She did the initial thumbnails and colors and provided the evil wizard rabbit, and I did the script, sketch and lines and provided the pathetic prettyboy unicorn.
Old Wounds is a look into the alliance between Duke Hyden and Lord de Luxe, an alliance that winds up being a mere ploy for Hyden’s experimentation with unicorn blood and leaves Ambroys feeling rather drained (and often unconscious on Hyden’s floor). It takes place towards the end of their “friendship”, after there’s some serious bad blood between the two - bad blood that sustains a centuries-long grudge.
(Well - I say “bad blood,” but Hyden seems to think the blood is juuuust fine.)

It's Time To Investigate SevenArt.ai
sevenart.ai is a website that uses ai to generate images.
Except, that's not all it can do.
It can also overlay ai filters onto images to create the illusion that the algorithm created these images.
And its primary image source is Tumblr.
It scrapes through the site for recent images that are at least 10 days old and has some notes attached to it, as well as copying the tags to make the unsuspecting user think that the post was from a genuine user.
No image is safe. Art, photography, screenshots, you name it.
Initially I thought that these are bots that just repost images from their site as well as bastardizations of pictures across tumblr, until a user by the name of @nataliedecorsair discovered that these "bots" can also block users and restrict replies.
Not only that, but these bots do not procreate and multiply like most bots do. Or at least, they have.
The following are the list of bots that have been found on this very site. Brace yourself. It's gonna be a long one:

The oldest ones have been created in March, started scraping in June/July, and later additions to the family have been created in July.
So, I have come to the conclusion that these accounts might be run by a combination of bot and human. Cyborg, if you will.
But it still doesn't answer my main question:
Who is running the whole operation?
The site itself gave us zero answers to work with.
No copyright, no link to the engine where the site is being used on, except for the sign in thingy (which I did.)
I gave the site a fake email and a shitty password.
Turns out it doesn't function like most sites that ask for an email and password.
Didn't check the burner email, the password isn't fully dotted and available for the whole world to see, and, and this is the important thing...
My browser didn't detect that this was an email and password thingy.
And there was no log off feature.
This could mean two things.
Either we have a site that doesn't have a functioning email and password database, or that we have a bunch of gullible people throwing their email and password in for people to potentially steal.
I can't confirm or deny these facts, because, again, the site has little to work with.
The code? Generic as all hell.
Tried searching for more information about this site, like the server it's on, or who owned the site, or something. ANYTHING.
Multiple sites pulled me in different directions. One site said it originates in Iceland. Others say its in California or Canada.
Luckily, the server it used was the same. Its powered by Cloudflare.
Unfortunately, I have no idea what to do with any of this information.
If you have any further information about this site, let me know.
Until there is a clear answer, we need to keep doing what we are doing.
Spread the word and report about these cretins.
If they want attention, then they are gonna get the worst attention.

Roleplay Is Not Dead Nor Doth It Sleep
There's a post going around about how text-based, freeform roleplay is dead, and I was typing up a huge response to this, with an accompanying guide on how to find roleplayer in 2024, when I realized it might have a bigger reach if I made it its own post. So here's that guide.
I hesitate to say that there isn't a problem with the new format of social media making roleplay more difficult to find, but in the desire to make that point, the OP of the original post has left people with the idea that there's no way for them to get into freeform text roleplay in 2024. Which just isn't true! Here, look at all the ways.
Forums
The link to RPG-Directory to find roleplaying forums is a good start. Once you've found a forum RPG, even if you don't join, there's usually an 'advertising' section on that forum where other forum RPGs post their ads - this may help you to find forums that don't advertise on RPG-D.
Another really good forum to find roleplay on is Barbermonger. Barbermonger is focused on connecting people for one-on-one roleplays.
This last one's going to be weird, but it turns out that there are still people seeking roleplay on the Gaia Online forums after all these years. I think this is delightfully retro and then crowd there seems a little older than average. No pre-existing knowledge of Gaia required.
Tumblr
You can also find forum roleplay groups (as well as tumblr and Discord groups) right here on Tumblr. Usually, the thing to do is to use the search function - search for "[genre] rp" or "[fandom] rp" and sort by "latest." (If you sort by Top, you are likely to find dead RPs.) For example, here's fantasy rp, historical rp, and marvel rp. You can also try jcink rp, as most roleplay forums are hosted on Jcink these days, or discord rp, depending on your favored platform.
There are also tumblr blogs specifically dedicated to advertising roleplays. I'm not super familiar with these nowadays, but just in the process of searching those tags above, I found these:
Jcink Tinder
RPG Adverts
RPings
There are more, I just don't know them off the top of my head.
Reddit
Listen, don't run away, I swear it's good now - I swear Reddit is good now -
Reddit is a good place to find Discord roleplays. It's a little heavier on smut-only roleplays than other platforms mentioned here, but it's not impossible to find sexless, plot-based roleplay here either. Most ads are for one on one RP, but you can find groups mixed in here too. The big subreddits for text-based freeform RP seem to be:
r/DiscordRP
r/RoleplayPartnerSearch
r/roleplaying
r/Roleplay
Some of these have weird rules about what you can put in your ad, and I don't remember which ones, so read carefully and don't get discouraged if your ad is initially removed.
Discord
In 2024, Discord is by far the biggest and most popular platform for roleplay, and it has its own native roleplay advertising hubs. Here are a bunch:
roleplay partner hub
Rockin Roleplay
The Roleplay Garden
roleplay help
the roleplay connection
RP Central
Roleplay Central
Roleplay Hub
Barbermonger also has a Discord server
Roleplay Meets: Reborn
RP Hub
The Scribes Guild
DM Rp Village
cherry blossom! roleplay hub
DM-RP
Roleplay Round Table (21+)
The Historical Syndicate (specifically for historical roleplay)
The Roleplayer's Directory
If you can't find the Discord roleplay you want on here, you can also try Discord hub websites, like Disboard. These work similar to tumblr tags - search for [genre] rp or [fandom] rp.
Other
The original post specifically mentions that 'all the old "omegle but for role play" type websites died out ages ago'. This is mostly true, but not quite! There's still Rolechat. It's a little janky, but what it needs more than anything is a bigger user base. Their Discord server is also a good place to find one on one discord roleplay. It is, of course, free, but if you want to support its development, they have a patreon.
Please reblog this post, and add your own tips on how to find roleplay!

Digital Stamp Making Tutorial
Hello, and welcome to the long-awaited(at least on my part) digital stamp-making tutorial from neosprites! I’d like to preface that I learned what I was doing from this tutorial so it may be a bit redundant, but if anything I get a bit more specific. Thank you so much to @graphic--horde for your work, it changed me as a graphic maker. This is gunna be a long post so feel free to bookmark it for later. Now, onto the show!
The frame I will be using for this tutorial (which is the frame I use on 99.9% of my stamps) I found from the above linked post, which I believe is from a creator that OP lost track of. Its inner dimensions are 94x50 pixels and its outer dimensions are 99x56 pixels. Here it is!
Find your material! - I recommend using websites like Tumblr and searching with the “GIF” filter only on, or alternatives such as Giphy or Tenor. Your browser may let you directly save the .gif file; if not and you are noticing it restricts you to save it as a .webp file you can try an extension like “Save webp as PNG or JPEG” (for Firefox but I image other browsers have similar functions, but I really recommend you switch to Firefox). To use this you will right click on your source .gif like normal but instead of clicking on “Save image as…” click “Save webP as…” and then click “GIF”. You should be redirected to the website ezgif.com where we will actually be doing all of our editing! Here’s the .gif we’ll be working with.
Convert to GIF (optional) - if you used the extension from the above step you should already be ready to click the blue “Convert to GIF” button. If not, go ahead and open ezgif.com and click on “webP” and then “WebP to GIF”; then convert to a gif with the blue button.
Resize the GIF - now that we have a gif ready to edit, let’s make it the right size. The easiest method I have found is to change it directly to the frame’s inner dimensions, 94x50 pixels. [EDIT: Make sure in the aspect ratio drop drop menu you select "stretch to fit" and not "center and crop to fit" like I did in the photo example.] Click “resize” and then type [94] in for the width and [50] for the height. Next press the blue “resize image” button.
Add the frame - next click “overlay” then click the thin blue button that says “Extend canvas size(use if overlay exceeds GIF sizes)”. This will give us some extra room to add the frame onto the design. Next click “Browse…” and find the frame you have saved onto your device, then click the blue “Upload image” button.
After that it’s going to be misaligned, that’s normal! It will say you have the option to drag it into place, but don’t bother. That’s one of the reasons my old stamps look wack, it’s just harder to do. Instead type [44] in for the Left box and [22] in for the Right box. It took me a while to figure out these dimensions to be honest, and I’ve only tested it with this frame so I don't know if it works with others. Then click the blue “Generate image” button.
Crop the transparent edges - click on “crop”. You will have the option to check a box that says “trim transparent pixels around the image” however, I don’t recommend this as it tends to crop a few of the frame’s pixels with it sometimes. Next, set the Left position to [44] and the Right position to [22]. For the other dimensions we will use the outer dimensions of the frame which are 99x56 pixels, this will trim everything except the tiny spaces in between the stamp frame’s spikes. Type the width as [99] and the height as [56] and click the tiny blue button that says “set”. After that click the blue “Crop image” button.
Save and use! - all that's left is to click “save” and upload the graphic to your liking. (best seen on dark mode obviously)
If you’d like to tag me in stamps you’ve made using my tutorial I would love to see them, but it’s not required!! Make sure to always give credit for pictures/gifs when you can and try not to make stuff out of personal/fan art. Thank you to the person in my inbox who requested this tutorial, I had been meaning to for a while but it was just the kick I needed. :)

Archiving Which-Item-Poll
Trigger tag list - at the moment outlines NSFW tags but will cover other tags soonish
Tag directory - A key to the tags I use as well as ways to browse by category or the month the poll was originally posted.
Please follow @pick-an-item-poll as they're continuing to post polls where you choose an item
If you want to follow the original blog's new poll blog, it's @hear-me-out-poll
What is this blog?
Basically I'm trying to (manually) reblog everything from their blog to this blog to create a more permanent archive once which-item-poll deactivates the original blog. I'm doing this because tumblr's search functions are notoriously useless for finding specific posts and many posts get entirely lost without a blog's archive page. Additionally, this preserves the tags that contain the information about the items, most notably the websites where they can/could be found.
Once the archive is complete and posted, we'll see where this goes from there.
@which-item-poll if you want me to delete a specific post or a couple that I re-blogged from you please ask me and I will. (Even after you've deleted the blog, since I know your main)
About the Archivist
You can call me Arc (not my name, but it works for now), I'm non-binary and my pronouns are she/they! I'm not the original owner of which-item-poll. I'm typically slow to respond to messages, but will take any suggestions into consideration even if I haven't responded to you yet.
Archive progress
Currently in the queue:
July, August, September, October, November and December 2024
Completed Months:
*January, *February, *March, *April, *May and *June 2024
(* these months still need their category tags reviewed and possibly edited)
Needs to be queued/drafted:
Anything posted by OP between now (30/12/2024, 8:20pm EST) and when they decide to deactivate the blog.
Updates
Everything is now in the queue!
I found my draft about opening submissions :) Now I just need to edit it so it's coherent.
The tag directory is completed! It can be found at the top of this post! Since it was a majority vote to not change it, I'm going to leave it as is for now. I'll run another survey on if it's too long once I've pretty much completed it.
02/01/25 EST - Days left until completed archive: 17 days at 50 posts a day.
I've finished queuing and drafting existing posts and are now waiting to archive any future posts between now and when the blog is deactivated.
Previous updates under the cut
Update: My autotagger wasn't working, which I found out about 1200 posts into this. Currently working on restoring tags to the posts already reblogged. I've managed to fix my autotagger but I had to clear the queue and drafts. (I didn't want to do it... but must to preserve my sanity.... and more importantly my wrist) Once I've got the tags back on the January posts (manually) I'll be able to fill the queue and drafts back up with the original tags intact.
Update: Everything that was posted had the tags added back on. Resuming queuing posts (and I've confirmed that the autotagger is copying the tags). Starting the queue again since there's enough in there to run while I sleep.
Update: I have been misspelling February in all of my tags. I will fix this and continue to fix this as they get posted from the queue.
Update: All the miss-spelt tags have been corrected
Update: I made the pinned post nicer to read! I also added some information.
Update 15/12/24 EST: If I run the queue at 50 posts a day, it will take 45 days to post everything from the original blog to this blog.
19/12/24 7pm EST - Taking a very short break from working on the archive as I have my final assignment due for a university course due tonight. (in about 10 hours in my local time). I should be back to doing stuff with it tomorrow. :)
Update 21/12/24: I'm back to it and working on adding tags to posts before making a directory again. For now, All current archival posts and ones that are in the queue now have the tag #which-item-poll-archive
Update: I have lost my draft about new submissions somewhere :(
Since it was a majority yes vote on the survey about new polls, I'm currently considering how I'd go about doing that.
NSFW items are on their way to the top of the queue. Here's a post about the tags to block if you don't wanna see them! :)
The tag directory is completed! It can be found at the top of this post! There's also a new survey about it. Is it too long?
I'm also going to try and post some things manually to get that time down, but can't guarantee that I can do this a lot due to things happening IRL.
Needs to be queued/drafted:
Any posts remaining in which-item-poll's queue or any other post made between time of update (4:47am on the 15th of December EST) and when OP decides to deactivate the blog.
Pretty close to queuing everything now. Going to include some of the repeat posts from the month of December that were meant to let people know the blog was deactivating ect. But I'm not going to include every single reblog of them. Just for the sake of slightly smoother browsing whilst still backing up the posts.

Reasons Why you Should Check Out ROM
(readonlymind.com)
I've done a similar posts before for this site when I first joined up ROM as an author, but I feel like it deserves a little boost and some visibility out here as one of the many sites where one can enjoy erotic mind control literature. And also, because I'm a little selfish! I figure that if more people know about it, there's going to be more erotic stories to read.
Back when I joined, thanks to @arihi 's post on the matter during the 2018 tumblrapocalypse, I believe that there were barely 150 authors that published on the site, but as of today, that number has risen to 446. The list keeps growing and so does the variety of stories available.
Much like mcstories.com, the site is very easy to navigate and search through, even if you aren't 'logged in' as an author or reader. It offers us simple ways to search out and find the stories or authors we most want to read about. They've done an awesome job with the tag system so that regardless of which story you are reading, you can click on a tag to see what other stories that have the same theme.
It's a lot like a porn site actually, but for mind control themes.
And speaking of the tags...
The search function is rather advanced. Not only can you click a specific tag to see which stories have them, but you can also use the 'advanced search' to combine them and refine your search. You can add as many as you want to really find out if a specific theme is available. In fact you can also exclude tags to make sure you only get the stories you truly want.
Of course, when you do find a story you like, the author name will be a link to their page, which will list their stories as well as an introduction about themselves if they chose to add one. Since the site is all about open discussion, they accept self promotion so you can expect to find contact information on authors you like or even a link to other sites they post on.
Another very useful thing you'll find on their page, which I haven't seen on any other MC site before, is the 'story suggestion' link. There, you'll find all the stories the author recommends.
I've found that it's a great way to discover other authors because if you enjoy someone's writing, there's also a good chance you'll enjoy reading the stories they've enjoyed and recommended. Plus, if the author is so inclined, they can do more than just list off a bunch of stories, but also add a comment as to why they enjoyed it. I personally try to always add a little something to entice those that end up on my list.
Another feature I truly enjoy as an author is the fact that you can always go back an edit your stories because you always have full control of what is posted. Honestly, if I had discovered this before I opened up my own website, there would have been no need for me to do it. Although, I might have been a little disappointed about the fact I couldn't add the lovely images that inspire me so much... hehehe
But regardless, as an author that has many stories with many chapters, I've quickly discovered how easy it is to organize my stories because I can add a new chapter to an existing story, which is great because the reader doesn't have to look for previous chapters. Plus, you can add titles and even small descriptions to each, which will show up in the story index. In addition, you always get a word count for each chapter (or full story in the story list) so you know how long it should take you to get through it.
Speaking of readers, the site offers a little more than just a well organized and searchable site.
Well... If you register that is!
You don't have to post anything though, so registering is simply like creating an account. What you get for registering are a few fun bonuses like the ability to 'snap' a story you liked. Which is basically the equivalent of a 'like' here on tumblr. As an author, it's always a great inspiration to add chapters when I notice that one of my stories becomes popular and I know readers want more. It's also a great indicator for readers, as you well know!
Another bonus you get by registering is being able to comment on each chapter. I love the comments section because it not only gives me the ability to get feedback, but it also allows registered people to tag each other and reply to comments. As an added bonus, once you register, you get access to a notification page and if someone's replied or tagged you, you'll be notified there.
Speaking of notifications...
As an author, I get a bunch of notifications every time a user 'snaps' one of my stories, leaves a comment or recommends it to others. But as a reader, I can also 'follow' specific authors and be notified when ever they publish a new story or add a chapter to an existing one. But hey, that could be bothersome too so you ALSO have the option of just following ONE specific story so you are sure to know when the latest chapter drops. I'll admit, I use this option a lot!
Another option you may notice in the above image is the 'Read Later' option. I've used that as both a place to list off stories I like to read multiple times, as well as the obvious happenstance where I find a good one I want to read, but don't have the time.
As you ALSO may have notice, there are well known authors publishing their stories there too. @scifiscribbler, @jukeboxemcsa, @darthkyra, @ellaenchanting, @hypnoticharlequin and @skaetlett, to name a few you might know from tumblr.
If you can't get enough of reading MC stories, then this site will definitely help to feed your cravings. It's still relatively new and small when compared to others, but so far, it's proven its potential for growth.
The more the merrier

Interest check
Hi, just doing an interest check for an idea we have about making a DS9 anon kink meme! A kink meme is an ongoing prompt event where people can anonymously request fics and others can choose to anonymously fill any prompts they feel inspired by.
See below the poll for our initial thoughts on pros and cons and considerations.
On ao3 we could very easily set up a prompt collection open for anyone to add prompts or fill prompts anonymously. But we don’t know how easy it is to maintain momentum on an ao3 prompt collection. Maybe that doesn’t matter and it can be an ephemeral thing until people forget about it and it becomes inactive, and then the next generation of folks in the fandom can start up their own new one in a few years haha. If we do it on ao3, should we make subcollections for individual “seasons” or “rounds” (there would likely be no actual deadlines, it would just be whatever length of time it takes for the list of prompts to get too long and unwieldy to be usable), or should we have people put all the prompts into a single collection that just grows and grows and grows?
On dreamwidth there would be comment threads so there would be a way to anonymously register enthusiasm for a prompt even before it gets written, which seems really good for encouragement and feeding off of each other’s hype. (Dreamwidth might also tell you when new comments are added to the community, unlike prompt collections on ao3?) But we are less familiar with dreamwidth so we aren’t sure there’s enough ds9 fandom hanging out there (or willing to make an account there) to sustain it over there.
Tumblr doesn't seem like an option for a number of reasons (can't post fully anonymously to tumblr except via asks, and having everything be done via asks would make it difficult to organize and connect prompts with fills because to keep them both anon they'd have to be separated, and tumblr is a website with a famously terrible search function).
If a DS9-focused kink meme already exists, we’d love to hear about it! We’ve found a few seemingly inactive ones in our research. But if there’s an active one out there, we could absolutely just pivot to supporting/participating in that, instead of making our own thing and dividing up the fandom’s energies. (Another question we don’t know the answer to: Is it possible/desirable to work on reviving one of those inactive ones, just by encouraging a collective effort to start participating in one again? Or do we think the mods of these inactive ones have abandoned them and might be stressed out to suddenly see new activity?)
If you have something to say but don’t want to say it publicly, we also have an anonymous, slightly expanded google form version (that can be found in our pinned post) with space to leave freeform feedback. You can vote in one or both forms of this poll, depending on what you feel like.
We’d very much appreciate reblogs to spread this poll around since we just made this account, but no pressure to do so. We still want your vote in the poll if you’re interested in this idea, even if you don’t want to reblog a post about it. <3
Anyway, if you have any thoughts on this DS9 kink meme idea (or messages of encouragement!!!), please feel free to send them in! <3

https://www.tumblr.com/olderthannetfic/754129888346357760/ive-always-felt-pretty-comfortable-sharing-some?source=share
The other day, I got curious about a certain inflammatory Tumblr user and wondered if they'd been involved in other internet wankfests. I followed a couple of links from their Tumblr, which gave me their real name and a handful of other website accounts. Throwing these into Duckduckgo got me their birthdate (including year), a second stable username they'd used pre-2015, about a dozen other social media and art website accounts, and a kiwifarms thread (where they decided the person wasn't interesting enough to target). I also found two photos of the person, one of which showed their whole face and which they hadn't posted themself.
This took me about twenty minutes and I was barely even making an effort, just hucking usernames into a search engine and checking to see if the results were false positives or not.
However, despite turning up this bozo's entire internet presence for the past two decades, I did not find out any demographic information beyond meatspace name, birthdate, and and whatever I can guess about ethnicity and socioeconomic class from the photo, nor did I turn up records of past imbroglios. The person had practiced good privacy hygene for the past 20 years, so the info I was able to get on them was limited. I checked a bunch of the older accounts with the Wayback machine and found that the person had indeed been careful all along, they hadn't just gone back and deleted things later.
Someone who wanted to hurt them, slander them, write an accurate callout post, or build a timeline of their activity would have very little to work with (note the kiwifarms trolls not bothering).
AI does not present any new threats. The info you post on the internet is there forever and anyone with twenty minutes and a functional search engine can find it.

Do you perhaps have any resources on a harm reduction approach to disordered eating? it's been tough to find specific of this online and conventional websites only offer "talk to your loved one about what they feel" or either going to the GP. Certainly haven't found resources to help when you are not someone's parent/teacher/etc
the search function on this website is abysmal so i can't find the post but @transmutationisms wrote a very detailed summary of harm reduction tactics for disordered eating!
@librarycards has an entry in the psychiatric survivor zine called "Refuse!" which touches on the themes, as well as going into how to reduce your own fatphobia while still engaging in ED behaviors
Saving Our Own Lives has some chapters on it but i don't find them to be super comprehensive, quite honestly
there is some useful info in this Filter Mag article, as well as some background on why harm reduction is pushed back against in the ED field
Gloria Lucas' nonprofit Nalgona Positivity Pride has this as one of their focuses
while i wouldn't necessarily suggest seeking them out (at least evaluate what is/isn't going to be detrimental for you), the first place i ever encountered harm reduction for anything was in "pro" spaces (don't really want to type it out + get this post flagged). i wouldn't trust any information about nutrition you see in those spaces, but there are often threads about safer purging, specific scenarios, signs of common health effects + how ppl make them more manageable, etc. unfortunately, barring individual blogs on tumblr, these are the only places i can think of that you would be able to ask extremely specific questions + get a serious, non-condescending reply in a timely manner without being banned or reported (you are welcome to ask me specific questions + i can answer based on my personal experiences)

How to tumblr for artists… my own version
A collection of things that have been working for me, but may not work for everyone
~~~ your posts ~~~
!!!reblog your own stuff!!! you need to reblog your own stuff, there is nothing morally wrong with reblogging your own stuff regularly. in fact, it is morally right to allow the chance for more people to see your artwork.
~~~ queue it!! ~~~ my queue is 500 posts strong. maybe don't try to make your queue hundreds of posts strong in the same day omg but like… once every month or two i'll go through my whole blog and just scroll and "add to drafts" to every one of my own posts i have. then i'll use the "mass post editor" to add content warning tags. and add to queue, and shuffle. and then I write down what the date was for when I last added my posts to be reblogged on queue. this is helped by turning on timestamps for posts in tumblr "dashboard preferences" settings.
queueing is necessary and life saving for me. It takes out so much work with decision fatigue and the anxiety around posting. It also guarantees that even if I suddenly need time off or away from my phone, I don't just disappear and lose all traction. It also breaks the instant-gratification cycle that you expect when you finish an artwork. It's hard to keep creating when you post something and, when you're expecting to get that gratification, you get none... If you queue your new artwork to come out at a later time, you've separated that expectation - with time. It hurts less and contributes to a more consistent gratification thing instead of peaks and troughs.
~~~ tag ya stuff ~~~ when you're making a new post, the first 20 tags are what gets put into the searchable tags. do not feel shame for using lots of tags. shame is the mind-killer. tags are hard. hard to know what to tag a post with. hard to remember the tags. so I found some ways to help myself. maybe they'll help you too. dedicate some time towards just figuring out what tags you want to use. i have a list in my phone notes that i add tags to and reference whenever i'm making a new post. i have the phone right beside the laptop while i'm tagging so that i can just look at it and scroll. tags are the only way for people to find your artwork, other than people manually coming to your blog because they saw you somewhere. there is no algorithm. posting without tags, until you have an established fanbase, is throwing something into the void.
When I'm doing tag research, I look at what people seem to use - when you put something in the search bar, tumblr recommends you some that have a higher following, typically. Looks like this on desktop:
if you like one tag, look at what other people who use that tag also tag their posts with. Observe and learn how this tag is used. search through a bunch of them and write them down.
here's what i got in my notes, for the specific kind of art I post and look for:
these tags are sort of specific to me and the kind of art I make. You'll want to research your own tags, but this is an example of how I keep them organized to make posting more effective. I generally only write down a tag when it's got more than 2k followers. You might be tempted to use the tags with millions of followers, but I've actually found those a lot less functional for small artists. If your stuff doesn't immediately get a bunch of notifications, you're drowned out and pushed to the bottom much faster. But the bigger tags are better than no tags, so I keep them if I can't think of anything else to tag something with.
~~~ post at the right times….? ~~~
fridays and saturdays is when I post fresh new things... usually. every website has it's own peak hours, and you can find those hours in many different online articles that try to sell you social media growth services. tumblr is unique in having later hours.
here's some random graph from google images:
please don't over think this. please don't let this consume the idea of when to post, preventing you from posting at all. it doesn't mean too much - if you post during very active hours, maybe your art would just be pushed down the feed faster. if you post at the end of hours, maybe everyone's going to sleep… if you post at inactive hours, maybe there's less 'competition'… if you post at the beginning of active hours, maybe that's just more time for your post to circulate for the day, if you have enough people reblogging it once it drops....
this also is in EST. So fuck the other time zones, I guess. I'm over here in europe knowing that the "best" time to post would be like 2-3am or something. It's like this for most english-speaking majority sites - higher traffic in north american time zones.
it's also worth mentioning that this is scattered as heck, compared to other social media sites. and it's not like, the activity times of your followers. it's not the best time to post for your niche. this is just tumblr, broadly. all of tumblr.
~~~ Plan ahead for annual dates ~~~
Your artwork will get more circulation if it's posted on a celebratory day. You could just put them on your calendar and if you're wondering what to make, look on the calendar for what's coming soon. For example, asexual awareness day, trans day of visibility, location-specific holidays, etc. Here's my phone notes thing with my own recorded annuals:
I got these dates from googling and reading different articles, but I find that I still miss dates, and then I add them for next year. If you know of some I missed, tell me and I'll add them please <3
~~~ reblog other people's stuff ~~~
tumblr is sorta about ecosystems. things get passed around within groups of people that are all following eachother. to enter this ecosystem, you must engage and reblog other people's stuff too.
if you reblog other artists' stuff, sometimes they'll come over and reblog your stuff too. sometimes they'll follow you back. this is called becoming a mutual. I'll search specific tags for the kinds of people I want to follow and the kind of art I like - those are listed in the screenshot of my tag note under "Tags for finding new people".
I see a lot of blogs out there that are very clean, posts are tagless, and are only for the artists' content. like scrolling through a portfolio. I imagine this is good for people who are migrating to tumblr but already have their own established fanbase from elsewhere.
you don't need to do reblog other people's stuff on your art blog, you can do this on a separate blog. but if the two don't look very closely correlated, it's hard to tell who you are when you're interacting. and hard to make sure people know that you are the same person as your art blog. and you gotta remember to promote yourself on your personal blog.
~~~ have an art tag ~~~
make your blog easy to search!
if i go to your blog, and you've written 'artist' or 'sometimes art' in your bio, i wanna see it… it make me so sad when i don't get to see it. i want to reblog it. please let me reblog it :(
to make a tag on your own blog searchable, you don't need to repost it to add a tag. you don't even need to reblog it. you can actually just go back to the original post and edit it to add your tag. I've seen post people just have their art tag be something like #(blogname)art . you can see my own in my tags image above. if it's very unique, then it'll work tumblr-wide. I think that's good, since the tumblr search function is really weird. Otherwise it should still work if it's not entirely unique, people just have to make sure they're searching specifically your blog to see only your stuff.
I like to have a link in my pinned post where people can click to have immediately searched for my art tag. Convenience is king. Keep in mind that most people are on mobile, and if something isn't immediately clickable, they often won't find it.
~~~ be consistent and be patient ~~~
!!!this time will pass anyway!!! how many notes you have is not correlated with how good you are as an artist. wanting to earn something from your art means you essentially have two jobs. two potentially full time jobs. this shit's difficult. most of the job is promoting yourself. don't undersell how hard it is to do… don't feel bad for not immediately succeeding. I would write about how hard it's been to promote myself, but it would just be long and sad I think.
This isn't a full guide, please feel free to add more!!
I'm sure in another year I'll disagree with a lot of this, it will become irrelevant with time, and I'll have a lot of different opinions. Chip in and share what you've been doing? Teach me? This is very overwhelming. Don't do it all at once, just like, try one thing at a time, and see how it works for you. Your niche might be different. One size does not fit all. If you're confused about some of the things I talk about in here, you might be on mobile. I do most of my queueing and posting from the desktop browser version.
I will update this with more as things change, but I think you'll have to click through to see the updated post

hey okay uhm firstly LOVE your writing, super messed up <3 secondly. so you're into horror. you're like super into horror right. please i am begging you (and your followers, if you choose to publish this) to help me find a horror story i read online at some point in recent years, but that i've forgotten the title and author of because i have. como se dice. Memory Issues.
i read it on the website of the author who published a TON of their horror short stories online. i read other stories on their site but only remember the one. things i remember about the story i read:
it takes place in space, on a ship, and the big mystery/horror is that there's ships with entire crews that slowly wind up hallucinating, and then violently snapping and/or going catatonic. once catatonic the only thing these people sometimes do is start thumping their fists all at the same time. this phenomenon starts happening to the main character's crew. the main character (captain? iirc) starts experiencing hallucinations of inky black splotches on the walls. something calling for them to come in. it is warm and safe here. when they eventually reach into the splotches it is indeed warm, as if alive. less and less crew is functioning, and eventually they realize the ship has become alive and it has a "heart" and someone needs to fuse with it to...keep the ship going? keep the madness at bay? fuzzy here. i remember there being subplots about a mentor figure(?) of the main character dying to the same phenomenon and certain people being able to resist it longer.
that was long but i'm dumping as much detail as i can remember in hopes any of this rings a bell with anyone. this is killing me i can't find it in my browser history or through web search or on tumblr (i originally found the story through a recommendation post). this is going to haunt me until i find it again and while i love horror i'd prefer to be haunted by something sexier than "i forgor"
thank you in advance to you or anyone who knows what in the goddamn i'm talking about.
Does anyone know this?

Is it just me, or does it seem like Tumblr's terrible search engine is gradually becoming even worse over time?
@staff @support, I love that you're branching out and exploring new features for the community, even if they tend to be hit and miss. But please remember that there are basic things on this site that don't work, that really should.
It's often hard for me to locate my own posts. Part of the reason I have so many links to what I consider my "signature posts" in my pinned is because I'm genuinely worried these posts might end up lost and unfindable if I didn't.
A functional search is super important to a healthy website. Especially when many Tumblr posts can't be found on Google either.

hey hey! i heard about this challenge in a discord i frequent and i somehow got SO interested in this aa but i wanted to ask, should i post the stories i make for this on tumblr? or can i on Ao3 and post the link here while tagging you guys?
(also i snooped around and found the ao3 collection for previous years. ...and my current main fandom has no entries from what i could tell- looks like i have a job to do eheheh)
Hi!! Glad to hear from you (and excited for new fandom 👀)
There's no specific rules about how/where you post — if you wanna do just ao3, if you wanna post a link here and tag us, if you wanna post your work directly to tumblr, if you wanna throw something up on your personal website and not tell us at all — all fine! (We won't be able to reblog that last one though, for obvious reasons. 😉)
When the week is upon us, we will reblog:
PSW posts that @ us
PSW posts that tumblr's glorious search function actually shows us in the #polyshipweek24 tag
PSW posts sent to us via DM link
We also flip through the collection(s) and queue up a post share for each of the submitted works (unless you have that disabled in your user settings).

Sorry if you've done something on this before (I tried using the blog's search function and nothing came up), but have you ever thought about how Ash and Goh's engagement would have started? Love your work btw, you're a large part of reawakening my long-dormant Pokémon fixation!
No problem, Tumblr doesn't have the best searching tools, hence why I have a Soul(mate)s of Light Master Post that can be checked. I took the chance to update it this morning with links to the most recent illustrations and comic strip parts.
If by engagement you mean...
The moment they began dating for the first time: There's a comic about this with links available in the Master Post that's called "Confession" and it's divided in 11 parts. The timeline of this happening occurs between the canon events of Pokémon Journeys' EP16 and EP17.
The moment they got married: No comics exist, but a link can be also found in the Master Post of a fanfiction text that describes a part of the ceremony, named "It Was You All This Time". It will redirect you to AO3 website.
And thank you very much for your feedback, I'm happy you're enjoying the AU! ✨

forever thinking about that lil fic you wrote of obi-wan grinding on anakin at a club as a way to blend in. eternally wishing for a part two
oh my, I had actually forgotten I'd written this!! probably because it's not posted on Ao3 and any kind of ficlet posted solely on Tumblr is swiftly lost in the void that is this hellsite. I was even searching for the post for a whole fricken hour, couldn't find it because the search function on here is useless and then remembered that I had shared a link with somebody on discord and found it through there...I feel like it shouldn't be that difficult for writers to find their own writing on this website. anyway, here's a link to it and thank you for reminding me of this fic anon!
I wanna say that a part two would just be them fucking each other nasty the moment they're alone, but I know myself and I know that part two would actually be 10k of Obi-Wan and his guilt as he tries to adjust to the fact that he nearly just came, in public, from grinding against his former Padawan's ass.
#also still give massive props to the initial anoj who sent in that ask#what an incredible prompt that really sparked my imagination#anakin skywalker#obi wan kenobi#obikin#answered asks#my writing
