#I finally drew Qifrey!!

So I read Barbarities because it was mentioned in a tag that one of the main characters was a little bit like Olruggio. And yeah kinda but also the series itself was pretty nice and the characters interesting.

But looking on Twitter for more fanart led to learning:

A) Shirahama made a post congratulating the release of the final volume of the manga, meaning SHE READ THIS SERIES?! (Characters fuck in this series!) and even drew a little fanart of the main characters Joel and Adam

And B) the Barbarities mangaka Suzuki Tsuta DREW QIFREY AND OLRUGGIO?! And even gave Olruggio the same triangle-style frown as Joel, her Olruggio-like character?!

I don't know what to do with this info

1. What originally drew me to it

i read some essays on it since my mutuals put them in my dash, thought "oh cool" then never picked it up until months later (unusual) finally read it when my friend puts down qifrey panels like crumbs that i followed straight to the mousetrap

2. What I like most and least about it

most: the worldbuilding and how it handles a lot of the struggles with so much nuance for a fantasy comic where magic is such a powerful force. the way they gave us a concrete reason as of why magic was hidden away from the public compared to some other series of the same genre. the character designs and the art is also really damn pretty

least: the magic cops lol. also the way it treats its dark-skinned characters. one the is a cop who was pretty much killed, one is the most aggressive characters even more so than the brimhats, another one is sent off to god knows where, and the rest are minor characters. it's obviously not as egregious as other series (coughs) but in a series as well-written as witch hat it's even more prominent. and is it just me or does the sexual abuse backstory of one of the cops feel kinda tacked on? on my first read it was kinda nice being seen and acknowledged and whatnot, but on a reread it just felt out of nowhere and leading nowhere. again not as egregious as other series handles it and its actually pretty..... nice but witch hat sets up such a high standard so it just scratches a wrong spot

6. A character I'd like to frame and hang on my wall and admire like a work of art

qifrey and beldarut.... they're so pretty ToT i actually had a hard time reading witch hat the first time bc qifrey is so pretty and i kept staring and giggling at his panels instead of actually reading. embarrassing

BREAKFAST.

The smell of spices and raw ingredients. It tingled; it made him smile.

It was something he would do on daily basis and became part of his morning routines. Lining up of the food ingredients for today's breakfast, taking out any spices that he needed to use, a circle notebook, magic wand (a shape of a pen), and his magic ink.

A proud smile was adorning his bright face, warmth filled in his heart.

“I think this will do.”

A faint, muffled chirping of the bird could be heard coming from the outside; reminding him that the sun was about to greet the world.

He had to hurry.

The tip of his wand dipped in the magic ink once, elegantly dancing upon the paper of his notebook as he drew the rune, keystone mark, and the glyph. With the circle of the glyph closed and connected, there was a fire born from the drawing; a magic that he had drawn. And he had made another one.

He placed the husk potato inside the crackling fire, left it burnt until it was cooked enough for him to take it out. During the process, while waiting for the husk potato, he had been busy cutting the meat and vegetables, frying them altogether with additional spices. His attention could not help but to shift from one food to another, making sure that both of them would not be overcooked.

“I hope I can prepare it ready on time.” Talking to himself along with a sheepishly laugh, his hands and movement did not stop being busy; he was still making the food, until the sun finally peeked from the horizon.

At least he was done, he thought. The food was even presented beautifully and tasted just as right as his disciples would prefer. He was content about it.

He could hear the voices of his students getting louder as they walked closer, talking to each other with so much energy in this morning; and everyday passed nearly just as the same.

“Good morning, Professor Qifrey!” The girls greeted brightly in unison───almost in unison. The sight of them was enough to make his lips curled up genuinely.

“Good morning, everyone. Breakfast is ready.”

They enjoyed their meal with smiles and excitement, just like they always did.
