Dream a Little Dream of Me
@steddie-week Day 1: Pining | 1.2K words | Rated M for mild smut and canon-typical gore
In Hawkins, things slowly return to normal. Evacuees filter back into town, back into their patched-up homes, and Main Street turns from a crater to a construction site. Even the high school is open again, though Steve doesn't know how the others manage to focus on school while they're all still waiting with bated breath for Vecna to make his next move.
Still, life goes on.
But not for everybody.
Wayne doesn't look up at the sound of the door opening. He knows it's Steve. His eyes are fixed on Eddie lying too still, too quiet, amidst the beeping machinery that surrounds his bed. Most of the bandages have been removed now, revealing a mess of stitches and angry scars that stand out too vivid against his pale skin. Despite it all, he looks peaceful.
"Any change?" Steve says as he hands Wayne a coffee: black, no sugars. The stench of burnt beans tickles the inside of Steve's nostrils. They've both stopped commenting on the taste.
"Fluttered his eyelids a few times." Wayne sighs and looks over at Steve. "No change."
Steve nods, taking a sip of his own coffee. The walkman on Eddie's chest clicks off, the tinny sounds of Master of Puppets escaping his headphones fallen silent, and automatically Wayne reaches over to press rewind. Like Max's Kate Bush, the album plays on a constant loop. Steve's sat listening to it so many times he probably knows it as well as Eddie by this point.
Honestly, it's kind of growing on him. He hopes one day soon he'll be able to tell Eddie that.
"I can stick around longer if you want to grab some sleep after work."
"No, I'll be here," says Wayne. He's still in his uniform from this morning. Steve wonders how long it's been since he actually went home. With a parting kiss to Eddie's forehead he says goodnight, tells Eddie he'll see him again first thing tomorrow. There are deep, dark bags beneath his eyes when he turns to Steve.
"Drive safe," Steve says.
Wayne gives his shoulder a gentle squeeze on his way out of the room.
And in the quiet that follows, Steve settles into Wayne's vacated seat, picks up the battered copy of The Hobbit from the bedside table, and takes Eddie's hand. "Hey, Ed," he says. "It's Steve. Shall we pick up where we left off?"
It's well past dawn by the time Steve heads home. He crawls into bed and closes his eyes.
"Finally," Eddie says with a smile. "I've been waiting for you, dude."
He's lying beneath Steve, hair fanned out across the pillow and tangling around Steve's fingers as he slides a hand through it, and Steve kisses him. His mouth is on Eddie's jaw, his neck, his chest, the scars melting away beneath Steve's touch, and he knows that if he can just kiss Eddie everywhere he can fix things.
Eddie doesn't give him the chance, though.
"Steve," he gasps. He slings an arm around Steve's shoulders to pull him close, his other hand sliding down to Steve's ass as Steve rocks into him, steering his movements, licking into his mouth to taste Steve's moans. Steve clings to him, feels Eddie push up against him in turn, and it's still not enough. He's still too far from Steve.
Beneath him, Eddie drops his head back against the pillow and closes his eyes.
"Eddie," Steve says, breathes the words into his skin as they move together, "you need to wake up."
But Eddie doesn't. He's just gone. The bed's empty around Steve, Eddie's soft moans choked away into silence, and Steve's eyes snap open. Bright sunlight streams through a gap in the curtains; the distant sounds of repair work taking place filter into the room. Steve sits up in bed, still panting, hard, and alone.
It isn't the first time. It isn't the last. Every time Steve manages to catch a couple of hours of uninterrupted sleep, he dreams of Eddie.
He watches Eddie on a stage, staring up at him in awe with the rest of the crowd as red lightning arcs through the sky behind the band. Mid-solo, Eddie catches sight of Steve in the front row. The crowd screams when Eddie winks back at him.
He stands alone, somewhere black and cold and quiet. "Steve?" Eddie's voice calls, but no matter how hard Steve tries he can't find Eddie in the darkness. "Steve, I don't know where I am." Steve wakes from that dream with tears streaking down his face, and though Wayne and Dustin are keeping vigil at Eddie's bedside he races straight back to the hospital, just to make sure Eddie hasn't slipped away while Steve slept.
They lie together in a room Steve doesn't recognise but can tell is home, Metallica drowning out the sounds of the world beyond their bedroom. Steve rolls over in bed and cups a hand to Eddie's cheek. "Wake up, Eddie," he says, and Eddie's nose scrunches as he buries his face back in the pillow with a grumbled, "five more minutes."
Most dreams they're back in the Upside Down. Steve fights side by side with Eddie, staring on in horror as the swarm brings him down, or he arrives back at the trailer park to find Eddie in Dustin's arms, blood on his lips when Steve kisses him goodbye.
Sometimes, he reaches Eddie in time to save him.
Time passes. The routine stays the same. Steve reaches the final page of The Hobbit in the 2am stillness of the hospital and sets the book down with a sigh. "Well, you've really gotta wake up now, dude," he says, brushing a stray curl away from Eddie's face. "'Cause no way am I reading you the whole series."
He stifles a yawn and rests his head in his free hand, the other still curled tight around Eddie's, waiting for a twitch of movement, some tiny hint of a response. His breathing falls into time with the rhythmic beeps and hissing of the equipment, and slowly Steve's eyes close.
"Steve?" It's Eddie's voice. He's stood in the doorway when Steve spins round, still wearing his bloody, tattered Hellfire t-shirt, eyes wide as he stares back at his own body.
He looks like he's seen a ghost, looks like he did that day back in the boathouse: small and terrified and in no way equipped to deal with the madness he was being dragged into. Steve had ached for him then. He aches for Eddie again now.
Eddie only drags his gaze away from the bed when Steve touches a hand to his blood-stained cheek.
"It's okay, Eddie," Steve says gently, like any sudden move might scare him away. "You're okay. All you need to do is wake up."
Before Eddie can respond Steve's blinking awake, the dream slipping away through his fingers. His heart thuds against his ribs as he looks around the room, just in case. But Eddie's still asleep beside Steve, still lost somewhere inside himself.
Steve buries his face in his hands and lets a single, quiet sob escape his chest.
The next time Steve sleeps, he doesn't dream of Eddie.
He wakes with an aching kind of emptiness in his chest and dread curling in his gut. It's a long time before he finds the strength to drag himself out of bed and shuffle downstairs.
There's a flashing light on the answering machine when he does. Bracing himself, Steve hits play.
"Steve, it's Wayne Munson," the voice crackles on the tape. "He's awake."

hey Serra! I'm curious, what are some of your favourite tropes/genres to read fic? in the broadest sense I mean, not just relationship tropes. I personally love time travel fics, do you like them? (also if you have any recs at all either time travel or for your favourite tropes I'm all ears 👀👂)
Hi! In general I really like reading Harry and Draco working together, I do like time travel tropes as well and I love it when both are combined! I'm adding on to my existing Universe/Timeline Hopping list. I had a lot of fun making this list, so many favorites. <3
Time Travel
Always Already by @aibidil (170k)
It’s 2004: Harry teaches primary school and loves his job and friends; It’s 1980: Harry has to fight Voldemort, again; It’s 2004: Draco is a trainee Healer and reformed member of society; It’s 1980: Draco has to face his father’s cruelty; It’s 2004: Harry and Draco definitely aren’t lonely or depressed or traumatised; It’s 1980: Harry and Draco listen to Kate Bush and watch Dallas and drive a 1979 Ford Cortina; It’s 2004, it’s 1980, it’s…
Far From The Tree by aideomai (112k)
The arrival of Harry Potter’s children—snapped back in time, the children themselves guessed, twenty or so years—was the most interesting thing to happen at Hogwarts for years.
And So Death Took by @icmezzo (25k)
Fairy tales may soothe small children into slumber, but some stories themselves refuse to sleep. The Tale of Three Brothers, retold.
Our Time by @m0srael (39k)
Draco Malfoy is an expert in Ancient Runes at Oxford University’s College of Advanced Magical Studies. When he isn’t at the head of a lecture hall, he spends his time alone in cavernous libraries with only crumbling scrolls and runic dictionaries for company. One day, a group of Ministry officials interrupts his research with the aim of recruiting him to lead an elite team of investigators in a top-secret race against time to decrypt a set of recently uncovered ancient runes that threaten the very fabric of time. Draco feels certain he can save the world, if only he didn’t keep getting distracted by his co-lead, one Chief Cursebreaker Harry Potter. If only that distraction didn’t evolve into something so much more.
Chrononauts by AnnaFugazzi (39k)
Harry and Draco learn that Time is making fools of them again. And then they learn it… again.
Chronological Displacement by bookinit (89k)
In which Harry and Draco have a time-turner accident, and many things go wrong, but a lot of things also go right. Featuring: reptilian bonding night, canon-inaccurate animagus lessons, and a fuck-ton of pining.
aka the fic where Harry finds his family, and fights to keep them.
The White Pawn by Soupy_George (80k)
When eighteen-year-old Draco Malfoy finds himself back at Hogwarts on the eve of Voldemort’s infamous return, he is confronted with the most difficult decision he’s ever had to make: Relive the 6th year at school he’s tried so hard to forget, or do the unthinkable and ally himself with Potter’s lot…
An Emerald In The Sky by @corvuscrowned (6k)
The hardest part about shagging an Unspeakable is that they’re not allowed to speak of anything. All Draco knows is that Harry works in Time. Harry works in Time, and while he’s out there in all of that time, it is as unforgiving to him as it is to anyone. Somewhere along the way, Draco realizes he’s been thinking in lines, when he should have been thinking in circles.
Eternally Consistent by kitsunealyc (44k)
Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter assumed they would never be anything but civil enemies, until Potter lands on Malfoy's doorstep, bleeding, covered in curses, and acting very strangely indeed.
Quick as a Flash of Lightning, Unhurried as Eternity by @onbeinganangel (10k)
Can you fall in love with someone by simply watching them fiercely love another version of yourself?
Time and Again by lauren3210 (28k)
Draco has an important research assignment, and he needs Auror protection. Harry’s a little concerned, not only because he can’t even pronounce the places Draco’s dragging him off to, but because there’s the slightest chance he might do something stupid, like tell Draco all about that little crush he’s been harbouring for a while now...
Brevem Conspectum by lauren3210 (1k)
During a routine clearing of an old Death Eater house, Harry stumbles over an ancient spell that sends him somewhere completely different. He has to work out where he is and how to get back. Or if he even wants to.
Our Little Life by @tackytigerfic (7k)
Sometimes Harry dreams. Only they're not really dreams at all, and Malfoy is always in them. It's time travel, but not as we know it, and Harry just needs a good night's sleep.
Turning Leaves by @kbrick (112k)
Draco and Harry have a one-night stand that ends in disaster after Harry tells Draco he's unable to move beyond their poisonous past. So when Draco finds an unusual Time-Turner in the Department of Mysteries, he seizes the opportunity to start fresh with Harry. Only instead of fixing things, he keeps making them worse.
Everything is Relative to You by @thehoneybeet (43k)
Potter was supposed to have lived. Draco is certain of this. That Potter would no longer walk the earth was tantamount to the sun moving west to east across the sky. If only he could have stopped this from happening, if he’d have known… It comes to him as ideas often did: too late. Or, Harry dreams of his past lives, and Draco is in every one.
Just a Matter of Time by @gracerene (23k)
Draco's in a bit of a rut. He's nearing forty, divorced, and he still can't figure out how to make his Time Turner reconstruction work. He's bored, he can admit it, so he's not nearly as concerned as he should be when his pet project malfunctions and sends him twenty years into the past. That is, until he ends up relying on a nineteen-year-old Harry Potter for help and starts developing some very inconvenient—and possibly reciprocated—feelings.
Don't Want to Miss a Thing by @tryslora (8k)
Once upon a time, Ron had warned Harry about the dangers of workplace romances, but Harry didn’t listen and he and Draco became an item. But after nearly three years together, Harry broke it off. Fifteen months later, the two find it nearly impossible to work together, except when forced into an uneasy alliance. But this assignment isn’t just complicated (it’s amazing the trouble that can be caused by seven time turners and some creative magic), it’s personal, and Harry and Draco are forced to take another look at their relationship.
Wish You Were Here by cryptonym (17k)
[Snape] leans on the table, towering over me like a vulture watching its prey, his eyes boring into me. “If I were in your position, I would be considering my history as I know it. If you are here now, you were always meant to be here.” Career Choices: Harry: Time Traveller; Draco: Time Trial Test Subject
Primal Urges by @heyitsamorette (10k)
An eighth year fic …er … or should I say, a prehistoric fic? Draco gets hurtled back in time and meets caveman!Potter, who seems to like him much more than normal!Potter. Quite a bit more, actually.
Time Loops
At the Crossroads There We’ll Meet by @firethesound (24k)
Potter keeps dying; Draco keeps saving him.
The Inconvenient Death(s) of Harry Potter by @nv-md (33k)
Harry and Draco have spent the decade since the War avoiding each other, even as they’re forced to work together at the Ministry and their friend groups begin to alarmingly overlap. But what happens when Harry meets a tragic end (in a manner of speaking) and Draco’s the only one who can save him? Or Harry won’t stop dying, Draco’s had too much coffee, and there’s more than enough time for them to make a mess of each other’s lives.
Tea and No Sympathy by who_la_hoop (70k)
It's Potter's fault, of course, that Draco finds himself trapped in the same twenty-four-hour period, repeating itself over and over again. It's been nearly a year since the unpleasant business at Hogwarts, and Draco's getting on with his life quite nicely, thank you, until Harry sodding Potter steps in and ruins it all, just like always. At first, though, the time loop seems liberating. For the first time in his life, he can do anything, say anything, be anything, without consequence. But the more Draco repeats the day, the more he realises the uncomfortable truth: he's falling head over heels for the speccy git. And suddenly, the time loop feels like a trap. For how can he ever get Harry to love him back when time is, quite literally, against him?
Swish and Flick by @unmistakablyoatmeal (7k)
The Swish and Flick is the last place Draco wants to spend his Saturday evening—especially when he discovers Potter is also in attendance—and he can't wait for the night to end. Unfortunately for Draco, time is not on his side.
Groundhog Date by @gingertodgers (15k)
Draco and Harry both have dates at London's newest cereal cafe with a man called Liam. Unfortunately there is no sign of Liam, the waitress insists that they share a table, and every time Draco attempts to storm off in a huff the disastrous not-a-date starts again.
Timecode by Rasborealis (73k)
Harry Potter has been dead for two years, and Draco would laugh in the face of anyone claiming differently. Well, anyone but Hermione Granger.
It’s No Great Mystery by @agentmoppet (57k)
Who on earth decided that bringing back the Yule Ball for their eighth year would be a good idea? It feels like the worst day of Harry’s life, watching everyone get glammed up like the war never happened, like the last Triwizard Tournament wasn’t such a colossal failure. And then it happens again. And again. And again.
No Quiet Find by orphan_account (10k)
War makes a man tired…some more than most. Draco needs rest.
all in good time by @talkingtravesties (13k)
Draco Malfoy's life is boring and repetitive. He supposes he shouldn't complain, since that's better than sharing a house with Voldemort, or doing time in Azkaban. When he gets trapped in a time loop, however, he is forced to confront the routine he has fixed for himself, and try to break out of it. It isn't all bad, facing no consequences for his actions can be fun for a bit. But after he starts visiting the Auror Headquarters and having brief but remarkably pleasant conversations with one Auror Potter, he finally has the real motivation to break out of the time loop - something worth sticking around for.

🕊️Zenyatta (OW I & II) x (gn) reader ☯️
(Chronic Anxiety Reader & Platonic Edition!)
Tumblr media
(Request here! Hey guys uh, I’m sorry for taking so long to give you guys this, these past few days have been filled with all sorts of emotions. But all throughout this I’m glad to have supporters. Thank you all for so much for the umpteenth time.)
- Out of anyone in both Overwatch and Talon, for this specific turmoil, I’d say Zenyatta is one of the wisest choices to choose.
- To befriend him is like giving yourself gentle support or a calming ray of sunshine in your constantly moving life.
- Zenyatta in all his wisdom and patience has a way with his words and actions, with both going in tandem with one another when it comes to comforting and teaching one to express oneself healthily.
- His verbal skills aren't only for mediation but also as a way to comfort even the most haywire minds to ease when needed. He isn't against taking his time to understand and listen as to why you're feeling a certain way.
- As a friend, his mentoring comes in handy because all he wants for you is the very best. No one deserves to suffer because of their minds and holds that sentiment with you to an especially personal level.
- If you are in the right mind and permit him, he provides physical forms of comfort for you as platonically as you want it to be. He knows well that a kind touch can mean so much to a person when they really need it.
- Besides that, he takes the time to teach you ways to cope with your anxiety conditions without his help, for example, if you work alongside him as an Overwatch agent, he may say something like,
- “My friend, I will not be able to be by your side throughout missions all the time, do you remember what we practiced?” or “Keep in mind that your condition doesn't make you who you are, only if you let it.”
- Always has your best interest in mind as a friend, valuing your relationship much like how he does for Genji, teaching you to regulate your emotions in a way that he hopes will stick with you.
- He knows that your anxiety far contrasts that searing rage that Genji once had at the world for what had been done to him, but the one thing that is a comparison is that they’re negative emotions and such negativity can feed on one's soul.
- Your situation is unique to you as an individual and needs to be handled by what makes you the most stable, especially in situations that may warrant that unwanted tightness in your chest.
- Much like Genji’s journey into being less hot-tempered and overly frustrated, it takes time and bonding between you and Zenyatta before you are deemed fit to go on missions.
- Though you aren't the only one learning, as wise and all-knowing as Zenyatta seems to be, he knows that to be alive you are constantly learning about yourself and the other people around you.
- Learning is what leads to progress and so there have been many times when you both have spoken over some cups of chai of what will be the best for you and your journey into someone who can keep an even head in less than great situations and what you can be learned from them.
- Zenyatta tackles it in an “I am here for you but I won’t coddle you.” Kind of way, helping when you need it but wanting you to be able to use what he taught you.
- As a friend, he is spectacular at getting you to a mindset that is as calm as it can be as he hugs you and rubs your back in soothing motions.
- While it is great, he knows that his help isn’t the only kind you need, making sure to remind you to go to therapy or take the prescribed medication you may have.
- To him, communication is key to most situations, whether it be over the things one may ponder or what may haunt them, he believes that being able to get you to articulate yourself can help you break down the barriers of overthinking.
- Zenyatta wants nothing more than to have the people he cares for be the best versions of themselves, to endure and prosper through the difficulties of life.
- He is proud to be your friend and even prouder with every step you take to being more healthy. While your anxiety may always be something you deal with, it gives him the peace of mind that he will be there to help you if he can help it.
(I’m so sorry for making you wait for so long @astralwhimsy !! I hope you like my first attempt at writing Zenyatta, he’s one of my favorite characters/heroes to play!)

I’m on vacation and bored so here’s my hm music taste hcs
Disclaimer: I am completely aware this will not be historically accurate whatsoever, most of this is literally just music that I like
Hattie is a goth through and through. I also feel like he’d enjoy 1930’s-50’s music as well. I think he’d like the album “Vitrioli” by Selofan and ofc he’s Bauhauses biggest fan.
Constance would mostly listen to music from the 60’-80’s. She would also probably collect vinyl and have an antique record player. She’s super uptown girl coded so I think she would probably enjoy that song.
All of the hitchhikers especially Ezra listen to weezer cus they’re weezer blue.
Emily listens mostly to pop music. She’d be like the biggest swiftie ever and would also probably like Melanie martinez, Selena Gomez and Lana del Rey. I feel like Connie or Hattie introduced her to strawberry switchblade and she absolutely LOVED it. Probs also listens to mitski and cries her ass off
Ghost host listens to metal, specifically black, death, and doom metal. No reasoning, just getting those vibes. Also visual kei. He’d absolutely fw gulugulu and dadaroma.
Victor Geist listens to mostly classical/orchestral music, but I feel like he would like opera as well.
Sally slater also listens to classical. She enjoys hearing victor play his organ (if yall can’t tell I ship them🤭) but she would like hole, Lana del Rey, and marina and the diamonds too.
Master Gracey would be one of those weirdos who tries to act different and be like “oh I don’t listen to music 🙄”
Edit: I forgot Leota but she would listen to Fleetwood Mac, mazzy star, Kate bush, and the Beatles.

The last chapter of Time is a Flat Circle is up! So sorry in advance. (No I’m not.) Be sure to read the trigger warnings and tread carefully! This one is a doozy!
Here are the details for this specific chapter! Time is a Flat Circle as a whole will have a “post mortem” itself before Part 2 comes out. If you have any questions you’d like answered, send them my way!
- The lyrics from this chapter’s title is from “This Woman’s Work” by Kate Bush! Heavily inspired by a scene using a song in “Our Flag Means Death”, I listened to this song endlessly while writing this chapter. I believe it fits it so well for obvious reasons.
- “His senses weren’t overly reactive, recently. It was easier to spend more time outside, or among the humans’ excited chatter. It was nice. It made them feel… not peace, but a lack of unease.” - he is experiencing overstimulation less and less due to the humans helping him have access to accommodations!
- “(where the hell even was “Miskatonic University”?)” - This is a reference to H.P. Lovecraft’s work, since it inspired Beetlejuice’s last name, but also more to the movie “Re-Animator”! It kicks a lot of ass if you can stomach it. Check the trigger warnings before watching. Highly regarded in the trans autistic community.
- Beej’s favorite pizza toppings being pepperoni and mushrooms is a reference to That Beautiful Sound!
- “one of the “fidgets” she was particularly fond of; a singular key of a keyboard.” - This is based on my favorite fidget!
- “Can you even blush?” - He can!
- “ the gaudy floral wallpaper.” … “the tackily patterned yellow wallpaper. (How repellent. How dull.)” - The appearance of the wallpaper and the way Beetlejuice describes it is taken straight from one of my absolute favorite horror short stories, “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman!
- “I promised I’d get you all out of this, and ‘m a… thing of my word.” - Taken straight from my own vernacular. I’m not a man or a woman of my word, so I say “thing” as a joke!
- “Hot damn!” - this is a reference to one of my favorite “Brooklyn-99” cold opens.
- The TV show Barbara and Lydia start while the boys are busy with the model is “The Fall of the House of Usher”, which is one of my absolute favorite shows ever. It is an amalgamation of Edgar Allen Poe’s stories! Lydia would go nuts, I think.
- As Adam states, Beetlejuice has very sensitive eyes! They’re built for darkness, so they don’t know how to handle an abundance of light properly. Also, the sensory nightmare of ‘sun in your eyes’ sucks.
- “Gardening with Barbara was like a short dream conjured up from a summer afternoon nap.” - Although altered, this comparison is taken straight from my absolute favorite story Stephen King has ever written: “Laurie”. It is phenomenal. Highly recommend you listen to MrCreepyPasta’s reading of it.
- The soup Beetlejuice helped make was loaded potato soup! One of my favorites.
- “It should be a comfort, shouldn’t it? No one else got a chance like this, to have the precious moments mapped out, to have their time left set in stone.” - This is taken straight from my own thoughts. As someone with many chronic illnesses and a projected shortened lifespan, this is something I often tell myself.
- “after he’d wrapped her up in blankets and tossed her onto her bed.” - Fun sibling activities! My older brother used to love to wrap me up tightly and toss me across the room onto my bed. I also loved it.
- “I don’t keep anything strong on me after Adam freaked out about my flask.” - My version of Adam has trauma related to alcoholism/substance abuse. Beej took his concerns seriously and stashed away most of his ’goods’.
- “ “There is no… other side for me.” He gently squeezed her hand. “This is it.” ” - This is, of course, one of the hardest lines ever written, from “BoJack Horseman”. Made me bawl my eyes out when I first heard it, and I bawled again writing it into my fic.
- The various smells!
- Black tea and perfume - this has already been addressed! Beetlejuice mentioned how Barbara smells like iced tea and perfume a few times before.
- Isopropyl alcohol and tung oil - aftershave and woodworking materials!
- Vinegar-y chemicals and formaldehyde - Lydia has traces of photo-treatment chemicals on her. And she likes taxidermy things.
- Beetlejuice’s reaction to being called sweet is a direct mirror of my own. I have no idea how to respond to being called kind and such and act all grumpy.
- On the “diagnosed” conversation - everyone but Beetlejuice knows that that’s about. Lydia has been diagnosed with a few things as well! Perhaps we will get into it in Part 2?
- “The evening passed at the speed of a dream. Dinner, dishes, laughter. Pajamas, blankets, rounds of Clue and tossed game pieces.” - This is meant to parody General Gibson’s speech in “Asteroid City”. Specifically when he says, “twenty years passed at the speed of a dream. A wife, a son, a daughter, a poodle.” This movie literally altered my brain chemistry, no hyperbole. It will be referenced again.
- “Eric is returning to his grave.” - This is meant to be foreshadowing for Beej’s plan!
- “Lydia suggested they watch “The Exorcist”. Despite the Maitlands being terrified of the film, they stuck around to watch it. But the humans did not make it to the ending. They fell asleep huddled together, all pressed up against the demon’s sides. “God damn you, take me!” It wasn’t so funny this time around.” - This has a few layers; it’s referring to how movie Beetlejuice has seen “The Exorcist” 167 times, and says it gets funnier every time. The scene that is being quoted is when the priest character, Karras, tells the demon to take him instead of the girl it’s possessing. He then jumps out the window to kill the demon along with himself. For obvious reasons, this is not quite as funny to Beej anymore. (And, I mean, it’s about an exorcism. And he is dreading an upcoming exorcism. Not fun!)
- “How exquisitely stupid. How perfectly splendid.” - These are both references to two of my favorite pieces of horror media. The first is from “Nope”, the second is from “The Haunting of Bly Manor”.
- “They tried, desperately, to hold it all within their grasp, to savor it, to hold it close. But it’s hopeless. The last day with their BFFF passes like sand through his fingers.” - This is meant to be a reference to “So Long” by Tokyo Elvis, which was the song for one of the previous chapters!
- “7pm arrives like a thief in the night, sure and swift and inevitable.” - the phrase “like a thief in the night” is from “The Masque of Red Death” by Edgar Allen Poe. Lydia’s love of the poet is rubbing off on him!
- “He empties out their belongings from his hammer space and leaves them in tidy piles in the basement.” - this is a reference to a line from Mitski’s “The Last Words of a Shooting Star”, which was almost the song for this chapter. The lyrics it references are “And I am relieved that I'd left my room tidy, They'll think of me kindly, When they come for my things”
- The scene where Lydia calls Beetlejuice “BugBeverage” is meant to parallel the goodbye hug they exchanged at the end of the musical, just somewhat reversed!
- “Of all the billions of breathers that coulda seen me and said my name, I’m so glad it was you.” - this is meant to be a homage to a very impactful scene in “Fantastic Mr. Fox”. Shout out to all my fellow autistics that this movie made cry.
- “W-Wiggog Y-” - This is a cheeky reference to Wiggly from the Hatchetfield Universe! I have my own Tickle-Me-Wiggly!
- “I bid you, full foul in your fury, to smother this profane blight with your icy cull,” - This is a rephrasing of one of the best monologues ever from the best movie of all time, “The Lighthouse”. (I have seen it 103 times. I am not joking.) The original lines were, “rise from the depths full foul in his fury!” And “smother this young mouth with pungent slime”
- “His feet shifted, teeter-toter- Deep breath, it’s time.” - Taken from “The View from Halfway Down”, a poem read on “BoJack Horseman” from the same episode as the other quote in this chapter. It is a haunting, distressing poem from the perspective of someone who has jumped off a bridge to commit suicide, but regrets it halfway down. I thought it was extremely thematically relevant here.
- “Morning Frost.” - Morning Frost is a creation of my own. It’s a play on the ‘Morningstar’, or Lucifer, the original demon. The original head honcho of the Netherworld. Not much is known about them by Beej, so we are too for now! The only way to kill a creature born of hellfire is to freeze out that fire.
- “Heart. Lungs. Liver. Nerves.” - This is taken from a similar scene in “Slay The Princess”, one of my favorite games ever!! A horrific timeloop, a twisted romance. I won’t spoil anything, but the character saying this is doing so to keep his body from shutting down, like Beetlejuice. I say this to myself over and over again sometimes when I’m having a panic attack and it’s helped!
- “They hope it’ll lull them safely into a gentle goodnight.” - this is a reference to a famous poem, “Do not go gentle into that good night” by Dylan Thomas.
- The feeling of warmth returning is a bad thing, which is why Adam freaks out more when he notices! One of the last stages of hypothermia is feeling incredibly warm and stopping shaking. There’s also disorientation and confusion, hence why Beej can’t talk or think quite straight after this point.
- A fun little lesson on treating hypothermia from the Deetz-Maitlands! Warm the neck and core with blankets, get heated blankets if possible, and give them warm, sweet beverages. Starting to shake again is a great sign.
- “… he couldn’t let them see him as he was) and stepped forward to greet the pair, shaking on his humanoid illusions and Ghost with the Most persona.” - Beeltejuice is afraid that he can’t take anything back now. He wants to make a good impression on Charles and Delia. Sucks to suck, buddy!
If you’ve made it this far, wow… thank you! This monster of a fic wouldn’t be possible without the serotonin boost every like, comment, and FANART (still can’t believe that one) sent my way. Thank you so much. Can’t wait for Part 2! I will add hints and teasers for what’s to come in the Post Mortem. I’m going to keep working on my crochet sandworm now.

hi leigh!! i hope you're well :) saw your post with asks and decided i would combine lots of them lol so first thing is tell me abt whatever's bothering you!! i hope nothing's bothering you obv but still.
also i am asking you for book recs. i haven't been reading a lot of proper books lately so any recs are welcome but i kind of feel like some fantasy would do me good. but like good ones? The last couple of years i've been picking up some popular fantasy standalones hoping they feel like a fantasy book you read when you're twelve and they end up being the most mid thing i've ever read. like help. i'm planning to read some robin hobb books so hopefully they're good.
also i've started listening to mitski (talk about being late lol) and i'm really liking her songs i was wondering if you have any particular recs? Or any music recs? what've you been listening to?
sorry this ask is all over the place lol i guess i'm chatty today. i hope you're having an amazing day!! <3<333
ORLA!!!! i hope you are doing well too <3 one thing that is bothering me is school is starting again bc i have gotten virtually no break </3 also that apparently the english class i’m taking doesn’t have any required books i was looking forward to reading actual books not whatever mini readings ig they’re going to be giving us instead ☹️ also also that i did Not in fact get my license like planned this summer bc during the singular week i was home a bunch of stuff suddenly came up and it became no longer my priority and now i will need to renew my permit Again bc it expires in early september and im not going to be able to make it home before that so. <3
as for book recs!! i have tragically had the same problem lately re fantasy books and honestly mostly just books in general BUT i don’t know if you’ve read any ve schwab ive really loved what books of hers ive read. vicious was my favorite, but the monsters of verity duology better fits the “feels like a fantasy book you read when you’re twelve” vibe!
for non-fantasy recs if youre feeling poetry i reallyy liked margaret atwood’s morning in the burned house. also just finished hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy which was v fun! got many laughs out of me, i did not however know before starting it that it’s a series so now idk how to proceed bc i only have the first book agdjfk
OH ALSO fantasy shoutout to strange the dreamer duology 🫶🏻🫶🏻 lovely writing style and world, fascinating antagonist, i was not a big fan of the romance but otherwise big rec on that. definitely not for everyone tho some ppl find the pacing too slow, i remember when i first read it i mentioned that in my review too that it took a bit for me to really get into although i personally wasn’t bored in the meantime like others, i was just chilling enjoying what it had to tell me abt everything
MITSKI RECS!! i love strawberry blond sorry for being basic. square too but specifically square solo piano version which they took off of spotify (idk what you’re listening to her on). because dreaming costs money my dear is also a veryyy hard-hitting one. fond of circle, a burning hill, goodbye my danish sweetheart, nobody, washing machine heart, and class of 2013 as well. that was a lot i will stop now 🫡 also must admit i am quite behind on mitski’s recent releases so i can’t speak for any of her newer albums/songs. except for working for the knife musically it doesn’t hit as much as other songs of hers for me but lyrically it makes me go crazy
as for random music recs my most recently liked songs are unsweetened lemonade by amélie farren, army dreamers by kate bush, numb little bug by em beihold, would that i by hozier, the milk carton by madilyn mei, and comme des enfants by cœur de pirate. i have not really been “listening” listening to anything lately! though that will change in a few days with wisdom saga >:)
— sleepover saturday sunday!

Tag your moots with what song do they remind you of?
lissie: oh god... this is gonna be filled with so many people and assigning this will be hard (especially with my currently experimental prog music taste lmao) i’ll try my freaking best!
@kookthief : my time by jungkook (bts). your kook-themed username reminds me of it and i wanted to pick euphoria at first, but i like my rnb songs and i want to promote my time more too hehe. and it's a song about kook growing up and i just had this older-sister-feel from you tbh
@ujunxverse : an alternative-lover queen! ngl the song that reminds me of you is hyper-ballad by björk. it reminds me of you because of how unpredictable you are (in a good way of course), kinda like when i listened to this song for the first time. it goes slow then fast kinda like how you write your story tbh which in return, making it so immersive
@euphor1a : is it weird that you remind me of into the i-land? specifically, the one where enhypen and &team perform together. it has a sense of melancholia in it but is also hopeful at the same time...
@heartandfangs : sober by hyoyeon (snsd)! i first think that i get reminded of you by enhypen songs but you are more than enhypen and i owe you to me and other ppl. i just think of your blog's aesthetic with this song. idk if you like dance/bass type of genre or not, but it just kind of *click* you know
@jeongwins : because of your innie pfp, blueprint by stray kids! it's one of my fav skz songs of all time because of how feel it sounds. thinking of you reminded me of your review on crossroads which is so wholesome and i think this song encapsulates the wholesome-ness too...
@s-ngh8n-main : stereotype by stayc and yes it is because of your sieun and yoon pfps. but, ig it is also from the sound of it that reminds of you and kinda matches your lemon-y vibes <3 hope you have a good time offline!
@boba-beom : thinking of you reminds me of troubled pixies so much and the every breath you take-inspired fic of tyun. so ig throwback songs are what i'm reminded of you of, specifically cloudbusting by kate bush. it sounds dreamy af and tbh... if you can make a beomgyu fic out of this song, i will be forever grateful
@dim-sun : you seem so bright from just a few posts and i think thank you by asahi + haruto (treasure) reminds me so much of you! i had fun watching this live and i hope the optimistic feel of the songs keeps you up with whatever you are doing
@itz-yerin : since your milestone event is based on baek yerin, you really reminded me of k-r&b songs, especially imagination by dean + miso (the fact that this song is not on any streaming service is freaking illegal. i love this song so much). it has an ethereal presence about it, kinda like your blogs tbh... since you prob like my crossroads playlist too, ngl if this song is on spotify, this song will defo be in that playlist
@heart2beom : when i see you like 2000s romcom movies on your blog, 7 things by miley cyrus came into mind! it is unapologetically 2000's dcom soundtrack and probs right up your alley (esp with your f2l agenda that i'm digging.) the whole story of this song could be a fic idea itself so pls if you could make a fic from this song, i will also forever be grateful
@tyunlatte : alex you are a wholesome human being!! you remind me of time of our life by day6! it just gives such a teen adventure type of beat which i associate with you esp with your drawing board and sleepovers! i haven't read your works yet but i just have inkling that it has a somewhat feel like this song
@lovejoshua : fast pace and light a flame by seventeen! both are very jazzy and latin-sounding seventeen songs which reminds of you because of your carat-ness and just because they’re something you might like. tbh maybe it's because they have a sense of maturity to it and you are older than me lol
@junniieesbby : you seem like a very carefree person to me but also confident in the same way(?) ngl while scrolling through your blog and what you wrote on discord, i suddenly had maneater by nelly furtado in mind. my assumptions is that you pretty much ate up things lmao i'm sorry if that is too random >.<
@hanniejie : i really think that you are an embodiment of the sun from how sweet you are. it's gonna be a random choice again but i thought about pocketful of sunshine by natasha bedingfield when being reminded of you. it gives off a sense of encouragement and kind of reminds me of when you send us anon asks that is just words full of encouragement
lissie: this is actually so much fun to make. thanks anon!

10 songs you like that everyone should go listen to right now, GO
Ooo! Uhhh
Ship in a Bottle by Fin- it’s five minutes long but it doesn’t even feel like it, best song to imagine stories to. Many emotions :,-)
Dead by They Might be Giants- same peeps who wrote Istanbul (Not Constantinople), they’re actually from the same album called Flood. Funky songs where the main thing they have in common is awesome lyrics that are heavy metaphors for something.
Summerland by Half•Alive- it somehow captured that feeling of the first summer you could go out on your own and be with friends. And if you love dance choreography I recommend their music videos like Still feel.
Sunglasses at night (Jean Jacket Mix) from the NOPE movie soundtrack.- listen listen, I heard it in the movie and was overjoyed there was a full version. But it is like the definition of slow reverb edits haha
Cutthroat by S U R V I V E- An electronic song made by the same people who did the stranger things soundtrack. If you love electro I 100% recommend their album RR7349
Glitter by Daisy the Great- found this song while watching Moon Knight and I will forever associate it with that. Amazing song, the artists recently came out with a new album.
Betty Boop with Charlie Puth the remix - Electro swing, it’s just really fun to jam to :-)
Sedona by Nicholas Podany- it’s such a heartfelt song and just GOSH! Like Podnay’s music is so good please go listen and watch his series called Lucids for f r e e on YouTube please
Leena By Caravan Palace- it’s my favorite from the band it’s so 💕🎶
The Big Sky by Kate Bush- It’s from the album hounds of love which Deal with God is also from! Like PLEASE it’s my favorite one the whole album is amazing please listen to the whole album :,-)

YIPPEE also: i forgot to mention these two in my list of Music Mary Introduced Norman To (iirc it was elton john, fleetwood mac, and billy joel) but. she strikes me as the type to listen to cyndi lauper and kate bush. this definitely isn’t a prompt i just felt the need to bring it up
i have. a few headcanons but i dont wanna flood your inbox so im just gonna rattle off as many of em as i can :D👍
norman derives a lot of comfort from stuffed animals but since getting back from the institution he’s become really embarrassed about it
he has a pretty limited range of safe foods because either Taste Bad or Texture Bad. usually Texture Bad
he’s really warm. he doesn’t notice it, but whenever mary hugs him or something she’s like “holy shit you’re cozy”
tbh. i feel like norman forgets to eat pretty often. partly because sometimes he just… doesn’t realize when he’s hungry until it starts to Feel Really Bad
now that ive written these i am hella curious as to your thoughts on ‘em! again they’re not quite prompts but they can def be fodder for something!
I LOVE ALL OF THESE!! Also don’t u dare be afraid of flooding my inbox, I WISH my Inbox was flooded.
I can imagine the institution really did it’s best to just crush any decent coping mechanisms Norman had. They probably thought it would help him “grow up” or deter his age regression (I know that’s only technically canon to the book, but Tony performs those parts even when it’s not necessarily in the script. He’s so good at knowing when to put Norman in a childlike mindset). Suggestion: Modern AU where Mary takes Norman to Build-A-Bear?
The thing that’s so funny to me about Norman’s horrendous eating habits is that Tony was JUST AS BAD 💀 his milk drinking was fucking infamous. He lived on grilled cheese sandwiches and chocolate junket pudding. He adored hamburgers and literally has multiple quotes saying “I was trying to listen to this director/someone who was speaking to me, but I was sooooo hungry I wanted a cheeseburger SOOOOOO bad 😫”. They both love to eat garbage basically, and u know what? Slay.
And now I’m like really thinking about the stuff Norman eats and Jesus Christ. it really is just candy corn, fried chicken steak, grilled cheese sandwiches, peanut butter, milk… like… girl … EAT A REAL MEAL 💀💥 even when he DOES remember to eat, he’s just eating the most horrendous crap. No wonder he doesn’t put on weight, he’s eating like.. styrofoam.
Also the Kate Bush fan hc for Mary is SO real. I bet she likes The Police too I can totally imagine her and Norman jamming out to some of their tracks.

Music asks! 1, 2, 8, 17, 27, 38, 54, 56, 92, and 106!
Thank you, Ash!! Sorry it’s taken me forever to respond. I’m just very indecisive (despite asking for these questions, ha).
When I’m saying favorite for any of these questions, it can change day to day or even mood to mood, so I’ll just pick two or three that come to mind for most. 😅
1. What is your favorite album?
I will admit that with streaming, I don’t typically listen to most albums in full beyond maybe 3-5 times.
But since I saw them in concert recently, I’ll say, I’ve been listening to The Head on the Door by The Cure.
But the real forever answer is Shrek 2: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
2. What is your favorite artist?
It may currently be Angel Olsen and Sharon Van Etten.
8. What is your favorite concept album?
Look, I know it’s a big one, but it’s gotta be Ziggy Stardust by David Bowie.
17. Favorite song right now?
Favorite might not be right, but ones I’m listening to non-stop lately: Vampire by Olivia Rodrigo, Immigraniada (We Comin' Rougher) by Gogol Bordello, and Mermaids by Florence + The Machine
27. What is your favorite album that is not sung in your mother tongue?
Ooh, while I listen to many songs that aren’t in English (especially French and Croatian), I feel like I can almost count the number of full albums on my fingers (that aren’t associated with movie soundtracks).
Un verano sin ti by Bad Bunny G***y Kings by G***y Kings (given the name, I want to add that their parents mostly are Romani from Spain) Tous les garçons et les filles by Françoise Hardy
It has been years since I’ve listened to it, but I’m also going to put Rebecca: The Musical in German (Vienna production). We were robbed of a Broadway production. Hoping the London version this year leads to that.
38. Good song for writing
I admittedly make a lot of playlists for things that I’m writing but mostly play instrumental music while I write because it can be hard to tune it out, and I don’t want to be distracted.
But also things are so dependent on vibe?
Instrumental: Shape of Water by Alexander Desplat, Comptine d’un autre été by Yann Tiersen, and Drive My Car by Eiko Ishibashi
Non-Instrumental: Hounds of Love by Kate Bush, Shadow by Chromatics, and Sorry Not Sorry by Tyler, The Creator
54. Song you recommend
For you specifically (if you don’t know them already): A Better Son/Daughter by Rilo Kiley, ale Bien Qui Fait Mal by Mozart l’Opera Rock, and Androgynous by The Replacements
For people who may randomly be reading this whose taste I am less familiar with: Easy On Your Own? by Alvvays, Sun Bleached Flies by Ethel Cain (for the uninitiated), and Hot Knife by Fiona Apple
56. Underrated song
I have a bad sense of how popular things actually are, so I’ll just list songs I wish had more recognition that I’ve been listening to this year:
Body by 070 Shake and Christine and the Queens Young Lover by St. Vincent Leather by Tori Amos
92. Which album(s) would you wish to see performed live front to back?
Not possible but:
Blue Weekend by Wolf Alice I Put A Spell On You by Nina Simone Lion and the Cobra by Sinéad O’Connor (😭)
106. Which musicians would you wish to teach you an instrument?
St. Vincent and Mitski can teach me guitar. Kim Deal could teach me bass. They’re all the best at what they do, but also my gay self would thrive.
Send me music asks.

2024 - May 3 - 6:48AM
Title: May 3rd // Cloudbuster // River of Happiness
hiding by the stairs, half here half there, past the lashing rain
—also, may third has passed.
jolene/jolyne likely not related, they’re too..separate of personalities to make sense, as much as Araki loves his music references. he also distinctly does not seem like the sort of guy who would listen to country, though I suppose it’d make sense he’d go for the more rock-adjacent stuff considering we’re in an action-packed shounen. but then again, we have Pesci’s stand modeled out of THE BEACH BOYS for fuck’s sake, so I get if people are skeptical of the origins….I suppose I’ll look for official confirmation if I can.
6 & 4 are placeholder numbers for me; I’ll interpret 34 as 36 & vice versa.
you’ll look sideways and i’d think you’re looking at me. sometimes i expect someone to generate and tell me I lean my weight on the left side of my body, or how my breathing dramatically shifts each 18 minutes and I will cry that they know me so well
I think I know you well enough, and well enough to know that listening to Cloudbusting by Kate Bush is something you’ll value for the rest of time; dense forest vague as thick globs of dried dull green paint, sandy beaches grey and seashells atoms. I’m okay with that; I see dewy clouds past the horizon, and broad cello riffs. I just know that something good is gonna happen - I don’t know when, but just saying it could even make it happen.
If I do see her - a meager sense of pity, perhaps even love and sympathy, I will spit on her outstretched hand and bare my teeth, bar my heart. I don’t want to grow to be her, I don’t want to grow to be someone any different - someone who’d stoop so low as to attempt to console me with profound folk sayings. She will be kind, maybe. She may not exist, and I’d like that best of all. In a selfish sort of way, I’d rather not meet her at all - I’m glad that’s the way things are.
Cloudbusting isn’t..as close as I’d like for it to be. The skies are too clear, the rivers too broad for comfort. I’d’ve liked for the fog to last for just a little while longer.
..rivers of happiness. The asters, the dahlia, the wild geranium \\ Like the sun coming out; like your sun’s coming out. The sort of contentment that doesn’t fill your heart, not your eyes, not even your fragile fingertips. It’s something that dances tentative on your tongue, fun and fleeting.
You will never be able to comprehend it - shouldn’t you find the romance in that, instead of the pity? it’s you, it’s you, it’s you, Alyosha - you are all that I will live for, my love.
Sometimes, when you’re scared, you’ll go breathless & quick-lipped and high-pitched. Sometimes, you’ll have no good reason to feel this sappy. Sometimes, you should shut the fuck up and stop doubting the profundity of life. Sometimes, you should shut the fuck up and let yourself think what you want without inhibition — what’s so wrong with feeling? Is it only okay if you’re hurting yourself?
Not even that will appease you. I’m content to listen to Dolly’s warm intonation if you are.

Music Monday 5 New Releases: This Week's Must-Listen Tracks
Tumblr media
This week brings a fresh wave of music from both established and upcoming artists. We've got dance-worthy tracks, heart-wrenching ballads, and even a touch of Halloween spirit. Let's dive into what you should be listening to this week. LLOREN captures the raw, transformative energy of chasing dreams in the heart of LA with new single! Lloren has definitely set something of a scene here, and it's not one that requires visuals, just your ears. Last Star gradually builds itself up layer by layer before finally giving it the all. A great song, already looking forward to the video  Listen - Last Star in LA https://open.spotify.com/track/6py2lyAW3CFq1CIbfY4tEX?si=26883202c5db453e Live out all that you are with Veronica D'Souza's interpretive dance video for "Peaches In My Halo" Whilst I wouldn't go as to say that it oozes originality what I will say is that it makes great reference to the Tarantino classic Kill Bill and works by Kate Bush. I will say that it's outside the box thinking which I enjoy  Watch - Peaches In My Halo  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6vnNDiS8yE Phil Mac serves up a menacing new Halloween hip-hop banger, 'Shiftin'! Certainly, something of an after dark feel to it and Phil just tells it like is and doesn't do the softly softly touch which I like. Now I don't mind strong language in music provided it's not for the sake of it but rather as an expressive release. Decent tune Listen - Shiftin https://open.spotify.com/track/3m34ZTeBAkUehlLB8F4Cqf?si=495e3e5c99654756 Beans on Toast - Releases New Single: "Why?"  Beans on Toast basically asks the question which occasionally we ask ourselves if we've nothing else going on; why are we here, what was here before us and what life actually means (probably not 42 if you're a Hitchhiker fan). A nice little comical song with some entertainment to it New Album 'Wild Goose Chasers' Coming 1 Dec STREAM ON ALL SERVICES HERE 'WILD GOOSE CHASERS' OUT 1 DECEMBER, VIA BOT MUSIC PRE-SAVE 'WILD GOOSE CHASERS' TOUR 2024/25 2024 Special guests Dillon Warmek and Sorrel Nation in support. - 13/11 STOKE ON TRENT Sugarmill - 14/11 WREXHAM The Rockin' Chair - 15/11 BIRKENHEAD Future Yard - 16/11 PONTEFRACT Northern Social - 17/11 HALIFAX The Grayston Unity (SOLD OUT) - 19/11 YORK The Crescent - 20/11 WHITBY Whitby Brewery (SOLD OUT) - 21/11 HARTLEPOOL The Studio - 22/11 STIRLING Tolbooth - 23/11 DUMFRIES The Venue - 24/11 BOLTON The Ramp - 26/11 SCUNTHORPE Café Indie - 27/11 NORWICH Norwich Arts Centre - 28/11 CHELMSFORD Hotbox (SOLD OUT) ** 01/12 MARGATE Olby's - LAUNCH SHOW ** - 03/12 ALDERSHOT West End Centre - 04/12 ST ALBANS The Horn - 05/12 MILTON KEYNES MK11 - 06/12 SHREWSBURY Albert's Shed - 07/12 LICHFIELD Lichfield Guildhall - 08/12 LEICESTER International Arts Centre - 10/12 TOTNES The Barrel House Ballroom - 11/12 FALMOUTH The Cornish Bank - 12/12 BARNSTAPLE JCT27 - 13/12 GLASTONBURY The King Arthur - 14/12 SHOREHAM Ropetackle 2025 - 12/3 LIVERPOOL The Cavern Club - 13/3 MANCHESTER Band on the Wall - 14/3 KENDAL Brewery Arts - 15/3 NEWCASTLE The Grove - 16/3 EDINBURGH The Voodoo Rooms - 18/3 SHEFFIELD The Leadmill - 19/3 NOTTINGHAM Rescue Rooms  - 20/3 LEEDS Brudenell Social Club - 21/3 CARDIFF Clwb Ifor Bach - 22/3 BRISTOL Bristol Beacon - 23/3 PLYMOUTH The Junction - 25/3 SOUTHAMPTON The Joiners  - 26/3 BIRMINGHAM Castle & Falcon - 27/3 COLCHESTER Colchester Arts Centre - 28/3 CAMBRIDGE The Junction - 29/3 LONDON The Dome JOHNNY LLOYD - new single "If You Love Them..."  and solo Punchline  I've said it before and I'll say it again, though they're full of emotions like sadness songs about heart break are just incredible as they're honest the artist wears their heart on their sleeve. oh wow thanks for sending little ol me a question!!! love it!!!
ok so I’m glad you asked, I would write a whole essay so I’m just gonna write the ‘why’ for the byler songs
byler:
heroes- peter gabriel (this song eviscerates me. this better play at the end when they kiss or I will kill myself)
don’t delete the kisses- wolf alice (this is a personal favourite but I adore this song, it’s about falling in love deeply but not feeling like love is meant for you)
seven- taylor swift (not the biggest fan but this song hurts me and is perfect for miwi byler)
hounds of love- Kate bush (very stranger things, the ‘ hiding in the dark, hiding in the street…the hounds of love are chasing me ….i’ve always been a coward… It’s coming for me through the trees oh! oh help me darling help me please!..feel your arms surround me’ VERY s1-2 byler)
bizarre love triangle- new order (need I say more. need I say more.)
dreams- the cranberries (FALLING IN LOVE!!, realising this is love, ‘you have my heart…a different way to be’)
bluebeard- cocteau twins ( I listened to this a lot in the background when I read the INCREDIBLE byler fic ‘a dream all the same’ on ao3….)
kangaroo- mortal coil (longing, wistfulness, pure love)
don’t talk put your head on my shoulder- the beach boys (not communicating yet silently understanding each other, apocalypse/last day of their life byler?)

I am on a flight across the North Atlantic back home. The border guard asked me what I had bought while in Ireland and I felt strangely compelled to tell him a lie. Instead, I said I had only spent money on clothes and it was not a lot. Three hours into the flight and I sit completely afraid every bodily ache is a sign of impending doom. All the things I am, to add being half a hypochondriac to the list makes a varied mix. Since I learned how the author of “Goodnight Moon” died kicking her leg up as a sign of good health to her nurse, you can’t be too careful. I said all my tacky goodbyes to the people in my apartment, promised to talk, said the time I spent with them was nice. None of them believed me probably. I have a compulsive need to convey my true feelings and they’re all not idiots. Everything got so spoiled in record time. I was going back to look at pictures from when I arrived. In just a few months, an opinion can be formed so solidly. And I think we all had such unmoving thoughts two to three weeks in. My roommate made me promise her several times that hang out with her in the future. It’s an absolute miracle who you’d hug if that’s what the social convention calls for. I hugged my least favorite roommate goodbye though he never cleaned and only produced miraculous mess after mess, and of all things slept with the one girl I liked. Also fought with me frequently after the first month of arriving to our apartment. Everyone looked at me to hug him so I relented.
The sick feeling in my stomach during the last few days of getting my things together has finally stopped for the most part. It was no definitive transition. It was there and the next second I thought about it, gone. Probably went somewhere with the Dublin train. On the train I finished reading “Stoner” by John Williams and cried very quietly making my face all sticky the way tears do. Particularly it was the last twenty or so pages that got me in William Stoner’s story. He was a character that longed for a passion he didn’t possess himself and never got quite a hold of in his life. This made his death rattle in the final pages a painful one. Although he seemed to extract joy from teaching, it was never with a memorable fire to me. The book is exactly what my parents always accuse me of indulging in too much. Bubbling misery in every movie, book and song. I did like the book, but I think it’s funny it ever reared its head out of its fifty-something year old obscurity.
Now I won’t be confusing this alleviation of semester stress for a tranquility in my personal life. Most of those details mustn’t be thought of for pure continuity’s sake. Plus I have a nightmarish paper to be completed in the next 12 hours on whether or not Greek figured pottery can offer any information on the Athenian economy. It can’t, I’ve beat the horse in 150 ways and have about 1/4 of the paper to go. I downloaded the 2011 version of Twin Fantasy which I think I’ve only listened to briefly before. I was watching the version of “Sober To Death” Will Toledo does on Tiny Desk and it’s fantastic, completely love it. Looking through the comments someone says a bit about how they preferred before his changes made in the re-record. Since I’m an all-out media purist I had to listen. I think I should do some drawings just on the parts he cut out in all the songs. I’m such a sucker for long drawling speaking parts. It’s completely different but it reminds me of the song “Waking of The Witch” by Kate Bush. Absolutely nothing alike other than a song with no singing involved, incantations, monologues and exclamations instead of singing.
I can’t wait to get coffee in a vat. A comically large, pissing your pants type of size they have in the states. Being handed that will have me singing God Bless America backwards or break into cartwheels of patriotism. I’m hoping to avoid any serious thought over the course of the next few weeks and using my time to just draw like a maniac and read twelve books and absorb the contents of this lovely, terrible app. I have to complete a commission of many different dogs which I’ve been putting off. The woman who’s paying me will totally give me a lot more money the work’s worth so I’m nervous about delivering something a good quality. I’ll need to draw more dogs.
I’ve also got some zine ideas in my head which’ll be great for a punk art event thing I’ve been invited to in February. One zine’s already done, it’s just a matter of printing.
I’m so paranoid about getting a blood clot that I have this image in my head of touching the ground and bursting like a ballon. If you’re reading this, that did not happen 🫡
(An aside, glanced at the woman reading right next to me and a line from her book said “I can live with her being happy, even if it’s a fucking dickhead causing it.” A beautiful example of 21st century prose lol)

Monday, November 6 — Daylist: Make a playlist for a specific day and time for your character, inspired by what they’d typically listen to at that time. Has Spotify decided your character likes to listen to Happy Indie Sunshine on a Monday morning? Or Witchy Goblin Scream on a Saturday night? Make sure to come up with the funky description and examples of the specific weird “genres” Spotify thinks they listen to – and write about what they’re usually doing at that time of day.
golden existential singer-songwriter sunday afternoon - roz's daylist*
You listen to 70s, yearning, and songwriter on Sunday afternoons. Here's some: coffee house, vocal, empowering, solitude, acoustic, and 90s).
(I made this on YouTube because Joni Mitchell was a crucial component of this playlist and so I just had to find a way other than Spotify lol. Since Roz doesn't use Spotify, this is more of the ~spirit~ of the daylist than an actual canon thing.)
Sundays have a routine in the Peterson-Boggs household. In the early morning, there is Bob's morning run while Roz makes coffee and reads. Bob makes breakfast when he returns, a full English, and recounts what he's seen around town over the sounds of clinking cups and scraping forks. Roz remembers every detail.
The afternoons are for chores. Roz cleans while Bob runs errands, and on days when she can shoo the kids out of the house, the Peterson-Boggs home is hers, all hers. She plugs her iPhone into the sound system and hums along as she dusts, scrubs, vacuums, and shines.
It's not really a playlist— just the songs in her iTunes library that she's had for decades now on shuffle. Occasionally, she'll add another, a new song that she hears somewhere that she finds that she likes, but Roz's music taste hasn't changed much since she was a teenager. She likes acoustic guitars, women with deep alto tones and high soprano notes, melancholy lyrics that are oddly comforting— there's something about listening to Carole King lament the same guy for the past fifty years that just feels like being home.
She usually finishes up her cleaning and turns off the music before anyone else gets home. But if you happen to walk in early, if you open the front door very quietly, you might catch a rare glimpse of Roz Peterson-Boggs with her guard down, swaying and singing along.
