An Unexpected Painting Session

Summary: After always seeing the Chief Alchemist paint and sketch and paint some more, Kaeya decides to give it a try. Turns out it takes a lot more skill than meets the eye to reproduce something as beautiful as one of Albedo’s paintings.

A/N; FINALLY something that isn’t Thanzag! Here’s my first Genshin Impact work! I’ve been super into Genshin lately, but haven’t written anything until now. Enjoy!

As the cool air of Dragonspine grazes Albedo’s fingers, he drew yet another stroke across his canvas, almost finishing his piece. He took a step back, admiring his work in progress from afar. He loved painting the various landscapes Dragonspine had to offer. Every area he would pick on this mountain to create a new piece offered him a new look on his surroundings. He never got bored of it, unlike other topics of research he has lost interest in long ago.

He loved coming up to Dragonspine. He didn’t mind the cold as much as any adventurer would. He found it quite soothing, in fact. The mysteries the mountain held also drew him in, helping him find many new things to investigate. His lust for learning would never be satisfied, the complexity of these cold summits were proof of that.

Yet, there was another cold and mystifying subject that had enticed him just as much as Dragonspine.

Albedo paced back to his canvas, satisfied with what he’s produced so far. As he continued filling in the snowy peaks in the landscape ahead of him, he thought of said subject. A subject as enticing as the peculiar wonders of Dragonspine seems impossible to think of, yet it stuck to Albedo's mind. The mystery behind a certain Cryo user who loves to go around teasing and flirting with everyone he encounters on his way.

A subject just as peculiar as Dragonspine could be none other than the enigma behind Kaeya, the Cavalry Captain of the Knights of Favonious.

Albedo dipped his paintbrush into another shade of blue as he pondered about Kaeya some more. A man who disappears to Celestia knows where, it was only a matter of time for Albedo to find interest in him. What secrets does he hold? What is he hiding in plain sight? Might he be planning something dangerous? Why does he wear an eyepatch all the time? Why does every word he speaks baffle, yet still draw Albedo in further and further? All these questions were still a mystery to him, and he was willing to do whatever it takes to find the answers to them.

The chill in the area felt a lot colder now that Albedo had concluded his thoughts. He continued to paint, thinking that the change was just a brief gust of wind. However, the newfound feeling of a more chilling air around him lingered. Surely his fire didn’t go out, he could still feel the presence of the heat from behind him. However, there was another presence there, but not one of a campfire, or an object. It was a person.

“My, my, will you not even greet me with a simple ‘Hello’ or a ‘Nice seeing you here’?”

It is almost as if the Archons had heard Albedo’s thoughts and had brought to him the exact person on his mind. He turned to face Kaeya, a smile on the man’s face.

“And what brings you here to Dragonspine, Sir Kaeya?” Albedo asked, placing his paintbrush down, “It is quite cold up here, might I add.”

“Come on now, Albedo. There’s no need to be so formal,” Kaeya advanced towards him, particularly eyeing his artwork, “I just wanted to admire the scenery, the cold is barely a problem.”

Right, Kaeya did possess a Cryo vision after all. There isn’t a doubt that the cold wouldn’t nearly come close to affecting him. Albedo watched as Kaeya tried to get a peek at the canvas, though he was standing right in front of it, obscuring his vision. The smile still lingered on the Cavalry Captain’s face as he tried to look over Albedo’s shoulder, going from side to side as the alchemist followed his every movement. Typical of Kaeya to have such a childish nature, while still acting like an adult. Another captivating thing to note, Albedo thought.

“Oh please, won’t you let me have a look?” Kaeya asked, now standing still in front of Albedo.

“You should have just asked instead of going around me like some sort of child,” Albedo responded, looking up at Kaeya with a calm, yet irritated stare, “If I were painting in front of Klee, she would have done the same thing.”

Kaeya feigned an expression of hurt, putting his hand up to his chest, “You wound me, Chief Alchemist. May I see this wonderful painting of yours that you’re trying oh so hard to hide from me?”

Albedo nodded and took a step aside to reveal the piece he had worked on for Barbatos knows how long now. Kaeya hummed in satisfaction as he admired the work of art. It was of the snowy mountains of Dragonspine, of course, but it had such exquisite and fine detail, you wouldn’t be able to tell it apart from the real thing. The shades of blue and gray used were identical to the landscape. Kaeya looked up at the area in front of him, and then back down at the painting, humming once more.

“Such intricate detail as always,” Kaeya stepped back, looking at Albedo with a smile, “Truly another impressive feat of yours, how do you do it?”

Albedo appreciated Kaeya’s compliments, yet felt a wave of embarrassment overcome him. While praises certainly did feed into his pride, he couldn’t help but feel sheepish when receiving them. Especially when it came from Kaeya, it seems.

“It takes a lot of practice,” Albedo explained, ignoring his embarrassment with a cool expression on his face, “It’s taken a lot of time for my work to turn out like this.”

“Of course, of course,” Kaeya says in a genuine tone. He approached Albedo again, inspecting his art tools, “I wonder if I could do something as wonderful as this as well.”

“Would you like to try painting?” Albedo asks out of curiosity. Surely, it was what he was implying, but he still decided to ask. It was hard to tell what Kaeya meant at times, another reason why he disliked talking to and having relations with people. Kaeya simply laughed.

“I mean, it wouldn’t hurt to try,” Kaeya said, rubbing the back of his head, “However, I can assure you it won’t be a masterpiece like yours, prepare your eyes.”

Albedo nodded, “Well, I suppose you already know the basics of painting, correct?”

“I’d say I do, it doesn’t seem too complex,” Kaeya said, swiftly picking up the paintbrush that Albedo had placed down, “Do you happen to have a spare canvas?”

“Of course I do, I wouldn’t go around with just one canvas to spare,” Albedo reached down into the bag placed at his feet and fished out a fresh new canvas. He grabbed a new paintbrush as well as a cloth, which wasn't as clean as one would expect. He took the brush Kaeya was twirling in his hands away from him, earning a confused and upset expression from the captain.

"Hey, I was going to use that," Kaeya frowned. Albedo traded the used paintbrush with the clean one he fetched from his bag.

"It's dirty," Albedo explained, swiftly and gracefully taking a step towards the fire. There was a cup of nearly frozen water placed right by it. If he hadn't left it there, it would've been as hard as the ice covering the ground all around him. He knelt down and picked up the cup, feeling how cold it was despite the fact that he was wearing gloves. He dipped the paintbrush in the water several times, before quickly wiping it dry with the help of his washcloth. Even if it may not have been the cleanest, it did its job quite well.

Albedo got back up, making his way towards Kaeya who had just been standing in front of the easel. He looked over his shoulder and smiled.

"Do you have something in mind that you'd like to paint? It's much better to have an idea of what you'd like to do rather than going in blind," Albedo asked, now standing next to Kaeya. He handed him the palette, which had all the colors needed for Kaeya to create whatever he wanted. Kaeya seemed to be lost in thought, going through the different options he had in mind.

"I suppose I have an idea," Kaeya says, looking down at the palette in his hands. Albedo expected him to explain what he was going to paint, but instead he said, "Could you stand in front of the canvas? I'd like for this piece to be a… surprise."

Albedo, shocked by the sudden request, stepped away from the canvas. He stood facing the captain, so that he could get a look at whatever he was planning on doing. He also just wanted to see Kaeya’s face shift as he tried painting for the first time.

Kaeya rested the hand that held the paintbrush against his chin, seemingly lost in thought. He scanned the blank canvas before him, then finally gasping and dipping his brush into a color Albedo couldn’t guess. He dragged the brush along, making what Albedo could only assume to be thick and broad lines.

The alchemist let his mind wander as Kaeya painted away, studying the Cavalry Captain intensely. He thought more about the man standing in front of him, trying to come to a conclusion for one of the many questions he had asked himself. Nothing particular came to mind as always.

Albedo seemed to think of Kaeya quite often, and not only just to wonder about his past. He found himself thinking of how charming he is to look at, with such admirable features. His skin was blemishless, being a smooth caramel color all around. He'd heard people around Mondstadt speculate that the skin under his eyepatch would be lighter, but he disregarded those comments.

Kaeya's hair was yet another distinct feature of his that Albedo found quite pleasant. Navy hair as silky and smooth as that seemed impossible to be kept that way, especially when considering he would always style it in a low ponytail. One would expect it to get in the way, but Kaeya didn't seem to mind it at all. This made him all the more intriguing to Albedo, getting the gears in his head turning faster and faster. These features happened to make his heart quicken too, which Albedo just couldn't seem to understand the reasoning behind.

Kaeya’s gaze met his, making Albedo turn away in a quick movement. Kaeya chuckled under his breath, his stare lingering on the alchemist’s figure. He seemed to be finishing up his piece, Kaeya taking a step back, and looking at it from different angles.

“It’s done, would you like to see it?” Kaeya asked, “It could be better, but that doesn’t matter now, does it?”

Albedo paced back towards the easel, surprised by what was presented to him.

It wasn’t a landscape like he thought it would be, nor was it a flower or a tree from the surrounding area. The colors were quite nice to look at, he had to admit. From different shades of yellow to blue, with a teal nearing the color of his eyes, he admired the piece before him. Of course, it wasn’t a spectacular painting, he expected that. What he didn’t expect was to be met with his own face on the canvas.

“It’s me,” Albedo remarked, “You decided to paint me?”

“Why yes,” Kaeya explained, putting down the brush and the palette before him, “You have quite the charming appearance, Chief Alchemist.”

Albedo could’ve sworn he felt the heat rise to his face, but he shook it off, “You’re not that bad of a painter yourself, Kaeya. The colors are quite nice. You could use a bit of work on refining your technique.”

“I expected that,” Kaeya said, putting his arms behind his head, “Say, why don’t you teach me how to paint just like you? Shouldn’t be too hard, coming to see each other between our duties.”

“I think that would be quite nice,” Albedo said, a faint smile on his face, “Why don’t we head back to Mondstadt now? It’s getting quite chilly up here. I suppose you don’t have any duties to attend to at the moment and neither do I, so it would be the perfect time to get properly started.”

“Yes, that would be lovely,” Kaeya replied, helping Albedo put his affairs away for their journey down the mountain.

hands down my favourite moon sign! you're extremely empathetic and sensitive, you care a lot about others and you treat others' problems as if they were yours, you get totally immersed in them. you have quite a vivid imagination, you're able to idealize and picture anything you want. while this placement gives you an incredible amount of creativity, it can also make you uncomfortable. in fact, you may actually find yourself imagining every detail of every situation, even the worst ones. let's suppose you hear of a rape at the news; you literally start imagining the scene detail by detail, and it makes you extremely uncomfortable. actually, it literally ruins your mood, as it's as if you actually lived that scene. going back to the creativity matter, you have the soul of an artist; you have very enhanced emotions, and you're able to express them through artistic outlets. you could be amazing at writing poetry, books, art, music... also, your particular empathy of human's intellect can also make you an amazing psychologist or actress, as you're able to understand others' feelings and make them your own. you're extremely spiritual, and if you don't feel like that, you just have yet to have your spiritual awakening. you may be able to talk to spirits, for example, or perhaps you have very meaningful dreams. or maybe, you could literally predict the future through them. you're also most probably an avid daydreamer, you tend to get distracted easily because you're too busy thinking about random scenarios in your head. seriously, you could even make a movie out of them. you're also an hopeless romantic, and you dream of finding not just your spouse, but your literal soulmate. to make it simple, you want all of your daydreams to become reality.

you're very diplomatic! you always try to be nice and gentle with your words, you don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. your tone of voice is extremely soft, sometimes it could even be hard to understand what you say, as you could naturally have a low voice. you're extremely balanced, you have amazing problem-solving skills as you're able to see both side of an argument. it's natural for you to understand what's right and what isn't, and most of the times you're actually right. when you're with someone you're not really close to, you could even be the accommodating type who allows others to speak over your voice, or maybe you let others speak first as a gesture of kindness. I feel like with your jupiter dominance you have very strong opinions, and you're actually particularly proud of them. luckily, this placement makes you able to communicate them with diplomacy. you could often get angry if someone tries to prove you wrong, but aside from that, you try to be very elegant and formal when you speak. you're probably not fond of cursing, or at least you try to appear as mannered as possible with people you're not comfortable around. last but not least, you're such a charismatic, smooth talker that you result very persuasive. you're able to trick people with your words, which appear very diplomatic and calm.

libra mercury conjunct libra venus: this placement confirms your struggles to open yourself to the world. you’re insecure that your thoughts and ideas may be judged negatively by others, hence you just bottle them up with your feelings. this aspect is mostly positive, though! you’re probably a good singer, or at least you have a very calm tone of voice that is pleasant to hear. you’re able to see both sides of an argument, hence you may be good at helping people making up. you could actually be suited for psychology! you may also earn money through your voice and thoughts, so you could be a writer, a journalist, an actress, a singer etc. this placement assures that you may be sociable, or at least that you have great social skills.

libra mercury square cancer jupiter: this placement emphasizes your intellect. your mind is so broad that you can come up with different theories and philosphies, making you a sort of genius. you're probably good at memorizing things, and you could even have a photographic memory. yet, with this aspect, you may have troubles being consistent with your ideas. you may overestimate your needs and thoughts; for example, you may promise yourself to get all As in maths, then you get tired and bored and you end up getting Cs. same goes for your handwriting, for example: you may start writing in the best way possible, then you get lazy and end up writing in a sloppy way just to take notes. you also overthink a lot, and that causes you self-esteem issues. on the other hand, you're very open-minded and objective, as you look at the big picture. you'd do very well as a journalist, for example, or perhaps also as a judge of any kind. you may also be naturally skilled at foreign languages, you can mimic accents pretty well. you're probably also very poetic and / or wise, you're like a teacher for your friends.

love this placement! you're very romantic: you're not looking for a partner, you're looking for a whole disney prince. you do care about looks when choosing a lover, but not necessarily a conventionally beautiful person. they have to appear perfect to your eyes, and this usually depends on the way they treat you. in fact, you despise vulgar, rude people. people that act like that immediately become unattractive to you. you're also very picky, exactly because you're looking for the perfect lover. you're probably the type to cry at movies. you're also quite of a cliche; you're into roses, romantic dinners, sunsets... anything romantic that you hear about in fairytales. the problem with this placement is that you may overestimate the people you frequent, ending up having different expectations from reality.

libra venus square cancer jupiter: you come off as a very positive, happy-go-lucky person. you're extremely friendly, and this makes you be good at social relationships. you may have lots of friends, or at least you have the potential to make many if you opened up and talked to them. yet, while this energy gives you positive vibes, some people may take advantage of that, as you could easily be mistaken for naive. people can try to dominate you unconsciously (sometimes even on purpose) not only in relationships but even in friendships. aside from that, I don't think this placement causes you many problems. you may have the tendency to procrastinate and not work. you could be quite lazy and get easily distracted, as you're constantly with your head in the cloud. yet, thanks to your capricorn energy, you still manage to find some motivation to do your work.

☄️ mars in capricorn, 29° / 3rd decan ruled by saturn and mercury

you can get scary when you want, especially with your impulsive jupiter dominance. you're a serious competitor, as your mind is very strategic. your ambition makes you want to be the best wherever you are, and you may actually overwork yourself to achieve your goals. establishing your status is important for you. you may not be the type to act instantly, you prefer taking your time to follow a plan. in fact, you probably write down what you have to do in an agenda, or even in your phone's notes app. you have this strong sense of duty, as you feel 100% responsible of your fate. you're sure that, if you don't work hard, you don't deserve success and recognition. in fact, you don't take orders from others, you are your own boss. you could have materialistic tendencies, as wealth is what motivates you the most to work or just take action in general. you may often experience burnouts, as capricorn, especially in mars, brings intense workaholic tendencies.

🏡 houses

your 1st house is in sagittarius. your relationship with your image could be quite complicated; chiron here points out that you’re quite insecure about the way you look. you may struggle with your self-image often, and you may even have a physical scar somewhere on your body or face. pluto conjunct the first house also gives you a very bold, strong presence, and hence you may be even intimidating. yet, you’re also extremely magnetic and charismatic, maybe even sexy. I assume that you struggle to fully embrace your potential, though. especially during your early years, you had a fluctuating self-esteem. you used to find yourself weird and ugly, you didn’t love yourself. luckily, if you work hard on your mentality you'll start being way more optimistic, and as a result you'll be more confident in yourself as well.

I'm a straight female, 5ft and 110lbs. I have short black hair and dark brown eyes. I'm slight on the chubby side as well. I'm in between pale and light brown skinned. I'm a pure Filipino and I have prescription glasses. I've often been called a "soft girl" but I really don't have a certain styles. My clothes are often t-shirts, off-shoulders, (of multiple color and style) and any type jeans. Hoodies and jackets are a must in winter season.

Personality:

I'm often described as a chaotic motherly type of person. I love to tease others but it's not often. I can be loud and obnoxious at times but I prefer to stay quiet, with people I'm new to. But once you get to know me, I'm loud and obnoxious ish. I can also be such a flirt if I wanted too but I only reserve those skills when needed. My patience is very long and I don't get annoyed easily. Affection and words are my love language. I tend to get just a tad bit grumpy when I don't get affection. I'm a really observant person, so I'm able to pick up emotional cues, habits, and body language. I use that to check on people I care about. I try to act tough and strong so I would be a role model, since I'm the oldest child. I also tend to suppress my emotions and even fake them just so no one would be burden of me. 1. on a scale of 1-10, how excited are you about life right now? idk, i’ll say maybe a 7 or so? honestly i’m feeling pretty decent for the first time in a while

5. what’s one thing people don’t know about you? shit man i usually overshare pretty much everything, but i guess one thing would be that i got hit straight in the head by a golf ball while on a course with my parents when i was in middle school?? it came from way far out but miraculously didn’t seem to crack my skull or give me too bad of a concussion. my dad said it hit so hard that it sounded like it hit the pavement. now i have severe anxiety near golf courses and when things are flying near my head in general lmfao

Spirits Along the Edges of Memory

SUMMARY: Jiang Cheng will cast a balding spell on Wei Wuxian if he doesn’t move back to Lotus Pier after everything is said and done. Wei Wuxian, scared and bewildered at this oddly specific threat, finally gets to go home. Lan Wangji then promises to come visit often. So often, in fact, he kind of just drifts into terminal orbit around Yunmeng.

A.K.A. Wei Wuxian’s mischief and stubbornness is partly his need to exert some kind of control over his own life. Lan Wangji knows Wei Wuxian trusts him but how far does it go? He courts Wei Wuxian in the rainy season when nature spirits bless them with every step, during moonlit boat rides and fragrant night hunts where nocturnal critters serenade them.

Part 01.

He can hear the rain hiss over the silence in his rooms. Once only a soft sprinkle it now came down in gossamer films, shattering against the baked shingles and gurgling along the rain chains around him. Hazy and comforting he allows it to lull him back to sleep. Maybe it will give him a chance to capture his elusive dream again.

Somewhere far away from here a long set of legs are carrying a lithe body through this weather. He imagines them slick with sweat and rain, the white layers embroidered with clouds clinging to each curve and hollow.

Would he use his qi to stay dry? Maybe he is floating on Bichen, just above the dove gray clouds swollen and moody like a woman in her last days of pregnancy.

"Wei-Gongzi," a tiny voice calls out.

He focuses lazily on the carved beams supporting the roof. There is a window just high enough on the wall for him to see a sliver of the lowered sky. He doesn't answer.

"Wei-Gongzi, there is a guest."

A feeling almost passionate enough to become something more coils itself inside his belly and his stomach tightens, pulling on his various puncture scars. All he wants is to luxuriate in not being harrassed, to take this time to recharge and resupply before he has to plaster on a smile for the outside world again.

Apparently that’s too much to ask for.

“Is Sandu Shengshou back already?”

“Wei Ying,” a deeper voice answers.

Oh. Wei Wuxian chuckles to cover up his startled shivers, “I was just thinking about you, Lan Zhan. Come in.”

Only the windows are opened to the elements, illuminating sections across the room. They gently swath Lan Zhan in shifting light as he drifts through each block only to stop, not quite crossing into the pillowy alcove where Wei Wuxian hasn’t bothered to get up from.

“Hm, what’s wrong? Come closer,” Wei Wuxian coaxes rolling onto his stomach, indecent in his undergarments. “I don’t bite.”

The room seems to dissolve away from him, leaving only Lan Zhan’s pale skin and white robes resembling a painting against the unlit shadows.

“I’m dirty from the road.”

Wei Wuxian hums again then calls out, “Mianmian, where is the bathing tub?”

“I will bring it--”

“Nonsense, put one of the layabouts on the pier to work.”

“Yes, Wei-Gongzi!” Mianmian chirps.

Something flickers across Lan Zhan’s supremely stoic brows and Wei Wuxian says, “Now, now, I even have a set of clothes made especially for you when you visit.”

“I see,” Lan Zhan says, smiling faintly. “Thank you.”

Wei Wuxian clutches his blanket to his chest in theatrical shock, “What, you’re not going to argue? Or say you’re sorry for imposing?”

“I thought I had an open invitation?”

Wei Wuxian grins, “Aw, you remembered.”

Lan Zhan watches with lowered lashes darkened by the rain until Wei Wuxian was within the same softly lit patch splashing in from the window.

“Hi,” Wei Wuxian says.

“Hello,” replies Lan Zhan.

“I miss you.”

Wei Wuxian nearly chokes on the tea he was tasting as he sets the table for a snack. Clutching the poor tea cup, he looks up to see Lan Zhan in low-slung trousers and a single inner robe hanging loosely from his shoulders. His mind blanks out.

Lan Zhan drops on the mat next to him, not across, but nearly on top of him and Wei Wuxian ties to scramble away. He trips on his clothes instead and can only soundlessly beg for mercy when Lan Zhan caught him, holding him in place by an immovable arm around his waist.

“H-Hey,” Wei Wuxian’s voice cracks. “Me, too. Ah, Lan Zhan...”

“Mmn?” Lan Zhan responds while carefully prying open Wei Wuxian’s fingers from the tea cup.

His hair is still damp, and Wei Wuxian’s dream is now sitting next to him with water trickling down his chest, turning the robe translucent. He can make out the Qishan Wen iron brand on Lan Zhan’s chest.

Wei Wuxian manages to croak, “Aren’t you cold?”

He’s steaming, is not the thought Wei Wuxian wants floating around in his head right now. Lan Zhan’s body heat is much higher than the surrounding humid air.

Lan Zhan looks at him and Wei Wuxian helplessly traces a bead of water curving down his face, “No.”

“Oh,” Wei Wuxian hears himself say, “that’s good.”

“I was only given this to wear.”

“Wait, what?” Wei Wuxian snaps out of his daze. How? Did he really forget something that basic? “No, stay here. I’ll be right back.”

Yes, yes he did. The white outer garments with their accessories is still folded neatly in the carved sandalwood chest. He’d only retrieved the top tray which held the layers closest to the body.

“I’m so sorry,” Wei Wuxian says, handing over the missing pieces.

Lan Zhan graciously accepts, “I don’t mind.”

Well, I do. Wei Wuxian manages not to say that out loud. I can’t think with you like that.

“Wei Ying.”

“Hm?” He pretends to be busy, mopping up the miniscule spills on the table.

“Will you help me with my ribbon?”

“There, I hope you like it,” Wei Wuxian says, struggling to hide his trembling hands.

Lan Zhan traces the long fall of hair over the carefully placed forehead ribbon then followed the subtle designs woven at his temple and gathered into his topknot. “Thank you.”

“Heh, you’re welcome,” Wei Wuxian says, plopping down next to him again. “It’s a secret but I used to help Shijie with her hair all the time.”

“Wei-Gongzi even helps Mianmian!” The little girl who escorted him in pipes up from the entrance. “My hair is so thick. It’s annoying but no one lets me cut it.”

“I would be very sad if you do,” Wei Wuxian says, waving her over. “And your mother will scalp me in retaliation.”

“I won’t let her!” Mianmian fiercely declares from behind the large basket of food. “You’re my master, I will protect you from everyone!”

Lan Zhan nods approvingly.

“Ah? How are you going to protect anything if you keep falling asleep during your studies?” Wei Wuxian says, taking the basket. “And Hanguang-Jun please don’t encourage her.”

Mianmian sniffs, “I am your first disciple! It’s my duty.”

“I have not accepted you,” Wei Wuxian points out.

“Yet!”

“Persistent isn’t she?” Wei Wuxian sighs at Lan Zhan.

“A good trait in a Cultivator,” Lan Zhan says with all the gravitas his title grants him.

“Are you two ganging up on me? How is that fair?”

Lan Zhan ignores him and watches Mianmian’s dedication to arranging the sweets just so before presenting them to him, “How are your mother and father?”

“They’re good! They’re somewhere in Baling right now but I asked if I can stay with Wei-Gongzi.” Mianmian says while carefully folding a couple of bamboo leaves into a bird and sat it next to Lan Zhan’s utensils. “For Hanguang-Jun!”

“Thank you,” he admires the little construct then blinks when it flaps its wings. “How clever.”

“Heh, Wei-Gongzi taught me,” Mianmian says, tossing her head in pride. “He says his paper puppets are going to be next if I can master this.”

“Mianmian,” Wei Wuxian raises a brow at her.

Mianmian looks up, “Oh, yes, thank you for the compliment! I also like what Wei-Gongzi has done with your hair. You look really pretty. I mean, you always look pretty but this style looks good on you.”

“I--” Lan Zhan, caught off guard, simply finishes with, “thank you.”

“Seal the rest and weigh it in the river to keep cold,” Wei Wuxian instructs and Mianmian bows in confirmation.

She salutes Lan Zhan and he acknowledges her before she leaves. “She’s just like her mother.”

“Yes,” Wei Wuxian smiles.

Lan Zhan lifts his cup, enjoys the fragrance then says, “If you don’t take her in, I will.”

“Lan Zhan, are you here just to steal my kids?”

“I thought you haven’t accepted her?”

“Taking on that kind of task requires reflection, you know,” Wei Wuxian takes a sip from his own cup. “It’s a lot of responsibility, of course I’m going to take my time.”

“Mmn,” Lan Zhan’s eyes sparkles in the light and Wei Wuxian glimpses the smile behind his cup.

“Wait, are you...” Wei Wuxian leans in, suspicion narrowing his eyes. “Are you teasing me?”

“I, Lan Wangji, do not know what you mean,” Lan Zhan solemnly states, settling into an even straighter position.

“Uh huh,” Wei Wuxian says, wincing in sympathy at what the other man has subjected his poor spine too over the years. “Anyway, how are Zewu-Jun and the kids?”

Lan Zhan’s shoulders slopes a little at the mention of his brother and Wei Wuxian felt immediately contrite, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean anything by it.”

“No, it’s fine. He’s doing better but is still in seclusion.”

“I see, I wish him...” Wei Wuxian trails off, not sure of what to say with everything that has happened between them.

“Thank you,” Lan Zhan says quietly. “He will appreciate the sentiment.”

Wei Wuxian wonders if this is similar to what Lan Zhan had to go through when he was accused, judged and executed without a fair trial. Was it worse or better that Lan Zhan knew him so thoroughly that he never faltered in his support despite what Wei Wuxian had also done?

He stares at the feathery shadows cast across Lan Zhan’s cheeks, “Lan Zhan, thank you for coming.”

When Lan Zhan looks at him with eyes reflecting the shimmering rain Wei Wuxian’s breath hitches, and when he says, “I wanted to come earlier.” Wei Wuxian feels his face heat up.

He looks away first and clears his throat, “Well, you’re here now, unfortunately it’s raining or I would take you to all of my favorite places.”

Lan Zhan picks up one of the little sweets, watching as it wobble slightly before taking a careful bite. “Why let a little rain stop us?”

Bruno Bucciarati

He loves his s/o with all his heart, her and her extremely feminine tastes, her love for frilly cute things and her girly attitude. It’s like a fresh breeze that wipes the daily stress and worry away. He can’t restrain a smile when she storms in his office.

Little he knows that his Barbie-type s/o is a real proud metal fan. He finds it when his s/o calls him, begging him to come to pick her up because her car died in the middle of the street. He immediately drives to her, panic already clenching his gut. Was she hurt? What was she doing out so late in night? Did someone-

His wild thoughts freeze when he sees her, fine and well, and a group of her friends waving their hands at him to make him stop.

His s/o wears a t-shirt with a metal band logo proudly displayed on it, as her friends. Even her makeup, usually light and on pink nuances, is black and strong. He doesn’t say anything about it, he just checks her, to see if she’s alright, then picks her and her friends and brings them to their houses. Once they’re alone, Bruno notices that she’s fidgeting with the hem of her shirt, with a sheepish look. He smiles a little, capturing her fingers with his, and brings her hand to his mouth, lightly kissing her knuckles. “So, you like metal music?” at his girlfriend’s timid nod, he smiles again. “Then I know that to give you for your birthday.” In the end, his present is a ticket (and one for himself as well) for a big metal festival to which she would have wanted to go since long time. She has the time of her life and, surprisingly, Bruno too.

Leone Abbacchio

As his stand’s name suggests, Abbacchio is more for softer musical genres, as progressive rock. He, however, is open-minded and he’d try to listen to everything (the only genre he really doesn’t like is Narancia’s favourite, but more because the boy blasts his music too loud than for a real dislike). This said, he never, not even for an instant, suspects that his s/o could be a metalhead.

She is the exact opposite of him, with her frilly dresses, the light and pink makeup, her soft laugh and the sunlight that she seems to carry with her everywhere she goes. Abbacchio is head over heels for her and doesn’t mind at all her girly attitude that, to someone, can seem vain and shallow. He knows she’s not and doesn’t mind what the others think.

He found out about her love for metal the day they finally moved together. While he was packing some of her belongings, he noticed something that seemed out of place:it was Judas Priest’s “Defenders of the Faith.” He first labeled it as an album belonged to her father, maybe, but, when he found others metal bands’ albums, he understood that those albums were hers. He was surprised, since his s/o didn’t really seem the type to listen to a similar genre, but then he remembered that a book can’t be judged by its cover. He was even thrilled by it, he wanted to know more about her and, when he approached her with her albums in his hands and asked her if they could listen to one of them while they were packing, she was out of words.

In the end, Abbacchio finds himself to enjoy that kind of music and, when they’re alone, they listen to a mix of her and his albums, both enjoying each other’s tastes.

Guido Mista

He lives to see his s/o happy and loves everything about her, from her fashion style to her passion for pink and girly things. She loves him as well, she is nice and kind with the Pistols, what could he want more?

He always buys her little but meaningful gifts that she would surely like, since they are in her tastes range. It never occurs to him that, under the feminine and frilly features, she hides a true metal fan.

One day he arrived earlier to pick her up for a date, so he trotted to her door, thinking that it would not have been a problem. He stopped on his track when he heard a loud -and not the soft and angelic one he always imagined for her in his head- music coming from her apartment. He almost thought he was at the wrong door when he heard her voice perfectly singing the last words of “Hell’s Bells”. He then knocked at her door and the music abruptly stopped. Her red-faced s/o peered at him and his amazed gaze. “Babe, you know you have a wonderful voice?” his s/o was taken aback from his statement. “Are you not… annoyed by my music choices…?” “Annoyed? And why? They’re valid!”

Mista is not a person who judges someone by their music choices and he does the same with his s/o. Metal music makes her happy? Then he’s absolutely fine with that. Now he surprises her with some metal albums and gadgets of her favourite bands and the big smile she offers him is everything he needs.

Narancia Ghirga

He’s still bewildered to be loved by a girl like his s/o. She’s not annoyed by his demeanour and low education and she always supports him and his -often- crazy ideas with enthusiasm. Everyone thought it was just a crush and that soon it would have been gone away, but here they are, the Passione Soldato and the frilly, feminine to the bone and pinkish girl, more in love than ever.

They have a lot of matching things: the orange bandana (she decorated hers with a little cute bow), some bracelets and their MP3s. One day, Narancia accidentally picked his girlfriend’s MP3 instead of his one and he didn’t notice ‘till he was home -the HQ-, when he blasted his music, as usual. Instead of his usual rap songs, however, from the speakers came out Axl Rose’s high pitched voice singing “Welcome to the Jungle”. He was quite shocked by the sudden burst of electric guitars and immediately switched the MP3 off, before someone came to check him -mostly Fugo-.

He realized immediately that that MP3 was his girlfriend’s one and decided to snoop into it a little. His eyes widened when he saw that all the songs in it were metal or heavy rock. He expected something softer, like Britney Spears, Destiny’s child or Spice Girls, not Saxon, Megadeth and Guns’n’Roses! This, however, doesn’t bother him: on the contrary, he finds it extremely interesting, since it means that under her frilly appearance is hidden a wild spirit! When he gives the MP3 back to his s/o -she’s more than embarassed-, he just grins and compliments her for her music tastes. Maybe it’s time for Nara to widen his musical tastes?

Pannacotta Fugo

His s/o is the only person who has never tasted Fugo’s rage, not even an inch. Fugo finds her so adorable that he’s physically prevented from getting angry towards her. Everything of her, from her girly giggles to her Barbie-ish style, gives him peace and a sense of belonging. He really loves her.

After few months of relationship, she decides to introduce him to her parents, so she invites him to lunch at her house. Saying that Fugo is panicking is an understatement: he’s in a frenzy for all the week that precedes the lunch. For the occasion he leaves aside his infamous holed suit in favor of more normal clothes.

The launch goes pretty well, despite of Fugo’s obvious nervousness -that her parents find cute- and, after it, his s/o guides him to her room.

He freezes on the threshold of her room, staring at the many posters that decorate her room’s walls: Alice Cooper, Kiss, Pantera and a lot of other main protagonists of metal are depicted on them. Her room itself is a balanced mix of cute and girlish things and more particular objects. What enraptures his attention, however, is the big shelf furniture full of CDs, all metal and hard rock. He skims them, until he picks one: it’s “Love at First Sting” by Scorpions. He smiles fondly at her, who is watching him in silence, saying that that CD was one of his grandma’s favourite ones and so it’s tied to some of the few beautiful memories he has from his childhood. After that sweet admission, his girlfriend often puts that CD on and they both chill quietly, listening to the music.

Giorno Giovanna

Giorno’s girlfriend’s joyous and sunny attitude helps him a lot to be less stiffy. Even if he’s stressed and worried by his Don commitments, when she enters in his office he always smiles: it’s like the spring itself comes with her. He couldn’t care less about what the others could say, seeing a frilly and, apparently, vain girl with the Don of Passione. He deeply knows her and nothing could make him change his ideas on her.

He, however, doesn’t know everything of her, as he thinks: he has no idea that she loves metal music. He discovers it overhearing a conversation between her and Mista. The gunman was commenting a documentary about Led Zeppelin on the TV and Giorno’s girlfriend started a really long and detailed explanation about the band and metal. Both Giorno and Mista were kinda shocked by her vast knowledge about such subject.

A couple of days after the episode, Giorno gives her a little gift: a rare special edition of The Best of Led Zeppelin. His s/o is incredulous and, kissing his face more times, she asks him how he knew that she loves so much metal and, in particular, Led Zeppelin. He gives her his infamous enigmatic smile and just says that a “little bird told him so”. He’s absolutely not bothered by her music choices and even starts to grow fond of some songs.

1. Untitled - Eddie Vedder

Status: Unedited

“Come on, you’ll be able to meet our new singer! The dude is a fucking beast when he gets up there. You promised you’d be at our first show and you bailed, now’s your chance to make it up to ol’ Stoney!” The long-haired man ruffled your hair while you tried swatting his hand away, rolling your eyes as you sat your paint brush and tray down on the small table to your left. You stood up and glared at him.

“Go fuck yourself. I had come back late from my class, you know I felt bad about that!” You spoke loudly. You didn’t understand why it mattered so much that you were there to begin with. Stone Gossard was a popular guy.

You and him had been friends for years, along with Jeff Ament. Since grade school, you guys were the three musketeers. You often sit back and think about those days, and where you’s all are now. It was awesome that the friendship was still strong as ever, even in your twenties. While they had chose the musical way, you leaned more towards art and painting. Not that you weren’t musically inclined, in fact you were just as advanced as Stone on guitar, if not more. But for some reason it just didn’t compare to the way you felt when your paint brush stroked across the surface. That was your thing.

It was a Saturday afternoon, you finally had a day off. You had been painting all day, Tom Petty blasting out your record player. Then Stone came in the picture, begging you to attend his Mookie show. They had recently gotten a new singer, some guy from California. You had heard the infamous demo tape, and he did indeed have the voice of an angel. But its not what you wanted to do tonight. To attend a sweaty show crowded with drunk people didn’t sound very appealing. You wanted some alone time, to just do your thing, but the guilt from ditching his last show still weighed heavy on your heart.

Yes, Stone could be annoying as fuck, but he was still your friend. Almost family. It felt that way anyway. His parents had always treated you like their own, they were so kind. You knew you had to go tonight.

“The guys miss you, they haven’t seen you in forever. You’ve been so busy. Jeff would be happy as all fucking hell if you were there. Please?” He gave his doe-eyed stare and you just turned away and sighed.

“Alright Stone. You got me. I’ll be there-” You were interrupted when he engulfed you in a bear hug, your face squished up against his chest. He was wearing a navy blue sweater with black shorts and his dark boots. He smelled like cigarettes and mint. He had on his Dallas Cowboys hat with a bandanna underneath. He pulled away, a wide smile across his lips his hands rest on your upper arms tightly.

“Thanks Dani! We’ll pick you up around 7. Be ready!” He kissed your cheek and with that, left your small apartment. You chuckled to yourself as you turned back to your painting.

“You’re welcome Stone.” You smiled softly, and brushed the wet paint on to the canvas.

It was currently 6:30 and you were touching up the last bits of your painting. You knew the guys would be here to pick you up soon, so you decided against cleaning shit up. That could wait.

Instead, you made your way to your bathroom and washed what you could of the paint off you. After that, you brushed your teeth and looked at yourself in the mirror. Your short hair that ran just below your jawline was a bit matted, but didn’t look terrible so you just let it be. You had no makeup on, not that you even owned any, and you didn’t quite care. Sure you had breakouts sometimes, but covering that up wasn’t going to make you feel better about yourself. Right now though, that wasn’t the case, thankfully.

You went to your bedroom and quickly changed into your dark, ripped denim overalls and paired it with your black Chili Peppers t-shirt. Just as you were putting on your socks you heard your front door open.

“Honey we’re home!” A male voice yelled. Jeff.

Footsteps approached your room and that infectious smile stood in your doorway.

“Hey Jeff. New hat?” you questioned standing up, observing. He was an avid fan of quirky hats and you loved it. This hat was pink and huge. He grinned and grabbed it with his hand, placing it on top of your head. You glanced in the mirror and giggled. You looked pretty fucking goofy.

“Yes mam! Thrift store down the road from here. They got some pretty wicked stuff in there, man. You should check it out!” He stated enthusiastically and threw his arm around your shoulder. You smiled at the touch.

You slipped on your black boots and the two of you made your way outside, talking stupid shit like always. He led you to the truck they had been using since the good Love Bone days. It was big enough to put all the gear in and it had some value, you figured they would never part ways with it.

There was loud music coming from within the truck, and you had assumed all the guys were in there but as you looked, it was only Mike, whom occupied the drivers seat. He made his way out and around over to you.

“Hey you! Where have you been hiding? Its been a while.” He asks teasingly as he wraps his arms around you. You wrapped yours around his waist equally as tight.

Mike and you were pretty close, Stone introduced you two when you were about 15 years old. He was the one who practically taught you to play guitar. Out of the whole band, you felt like you could relate to Mike the most. He shared your quiet-like features, and definitely understood your anxiety issues. It was something you really appreciated and you enjoyed his company. It always made you happy to see these boys and you would always consider yourself lucky to have them in your life.

“I know, school has been stressing me out to the max lately.” You said as you pulled away and made your way to the back of the truck while he went back for his drivers seat. You were quickly stopped though, before you could even hop in.

“Ladies sit up front, don’t be silly.” Stone teased as he pushed you to the passenger side door that was wide open.

“How chivalrous of you, Gossard. I thank you.” You spoke heartily.

“I am! Whatever the fuck that means.” You laughed aloud and sat in your seat.

Next thing you guys were in the parking lot of the club.

“I’m gonna grab a beer. That cool?” You looked at them both. Jeff was opening the back doors to the vehicle to grab his gear.

“Yeah, if you see any of the guys in there tell them to come grab there shit.” You nodded in response and smiled. He winked and started grabbing his stuff.

You made your way inside and looked around. It wasn’t that bad, but you knew by the end of the night this place would be way more packed than it was now. But maybe some time with your friends was what you needed.

Before you could even find the bartender you spot Stone, so you just decided to make your way over there first. He sport the exact same clothing as before, which didn’t really surprise you.

“Well look who decided to actually show up tonight! Miss Dani, we are honored to have your presence at our second Mookie Blaylock show!” Stone spoke sarcastically, witty smile plastered on his face. You shot him a look. He was with Matt Cameron from Soundgarden and some guy you’ve never seen before. You could only assume that was Eddie. He was cute, his blue eyes gaze into yours for just a moment. You felt a positive energy radiate from him and it made you smile.

“Yes Stone, there’s absolutely no where else I’d rather be on earth right now.” You shot back, with a lot of sass. Matt laughed.

“Hey Dani.” Matt said to you. You waved your hand and smiled wide.

You turned to the curly haired man and held your hand out. “ Hi, you must be Eddie?” He smiled small and nodded, hand enveloping yours gently. “Im Danica. But most people just call me Dani. Nice to finally put a face to the voice! That was some demo tape bud, you got a beautiful style.” And that was the honest truth. His voice was literally liquid gold on that tape. He looked down, face flushing, small smile on his lips and his brows furrowed. He looked like he did not do well with compliments so to help him out you decided to just change the subject. The last thing you wanted to do was make this guy uncomfortable here. He was probably sick of gloomy Seattle and missing the beaches of sunny California already. You wondered how long he had been here for anyway? You pulled your hand back and let it fall to your side.

“Jeff is out by the truck and wants you guys to go get your shit.” You punched his shoulder. He grabbed it in fake hurt. You flipped him the bird and tried not to crack a smile. But that proved to be too hard.

“Yep, lets go Ed!” He chirped and made his way toward the entrance. Ed smiled lightly at you. You took it as an awkward thank you for the compliment you gave him and you returned the smile.

“I’m going to grab a beer.” you stated to Matt as Eddie was trying to catch up to Jeff.

“I’m with you, man.” Matt spoke and you guys made your way to the bartender for a cold one.

You had spoken to Matt on numerous occasions as Mother Love Bone (as well as Green River) have played quite a few shows with Soundgarden. He was a genuine guy, a bit quiet, but so were you. And you appreciated the silence sometimes. It was never awkward.

You guys drank your beers and spoke about upcoming Soundgarden shows. You hadn’t seen them play in a few months as things had been very hectic for them, so you were a bit excited as you learned they would be playing tonight too.

After the boys got their shit together, everyone watched Mudhoney perform an awesome show. Mark was a cool guy, and you were glad that he had a band of his own now. They were great. You all drank your beer and smoked cigarettes and laughed.There were a few joints passed around too so you were in an extremely good mood. People were definitely starting to crowd in.

You couldn’t help but sneak a few glances at Eddie every now and then. He didn’t say much, so people were always trying to get him to talk. You felt a bit bad, so maybe you could try and get him away from everything for at least a few minutes.

While the guys were distracted by Steve’s loud solo, your hand made its way to Eddie’s shoulder and you squeezed gently, trying not to startle him. You didn’t think it worked very well in your favor, as his head quickly turned to find you. His crystal eyes bore into your own hazel ones, face inches away. You didn’t mean to be that close to him and you hoped it didn’t make things weird. You were trying to get closer so you could talk to him without the others really paying attention. Not to mention it was super loud. You also almost forgot that Jeff’s hat was still on your head as it was just grazing Eddie’s forehead. You took a mental note to give it back to him before he goes up there.

Lucky for you, it didn’t seem to make Eddie too uncomfortable, but you did notice his face change. His brows furrowed as he pursed his lips, his cheeks were a light shade of pink and his eyes darted down to your lips for half a second. It happened so fast you almost wondered if it had really happened. But you were pretty certain it did.

“Wanna dip? We could go have a smoke outside? You look like you could step out for a few minutes.” You removed your hand as you spoke.

He merely nodded and you both stood up, leaving your empty bottles by your seats. Looking around, everyone was still just focusing on the awesome show that the Mudhoney guys were giving the crowd.

You made your way to the entrance, Eddie following behind you. Once you’s were outside you each lit one and smoked in silence. It wasn’t uncomfortable and you were glad about that.

After a few minutes, you were halfway done your cig and you thought it was time to start up a small conversation, but he spoke first.

“Isn’t that Jeff’s hat?” He rose an eyebrow in curiosity. You giggled and nodded.

“Yeah, he put it on my head before we left my place and apparently its still up there.” You pointed up at it with your index finger. He laughed softly and took another drag.

“So how are you liking Seattle so far? Everything you thought it would be?” you took a puff, eyeing him. He looked sexy smoking.

He chuckled quietly, eyes glued to the ground. You had a feeling you were making it a bit awkward, but you were here now and nothing you could do. Just let it play out.

“I guess. It could be worse, right? I mean, the people are pretty cool.” He looked up at you, you observed his beautiful cheekbones. You noticed you were probably staring too long when he looked away and shook his head.

“I mean, its great.” He stuttered sounding a bit nervous. “I’m sorry, I’m insulting you aren’t I? Fuck, that’s not what I wanted to do. Its just-” You interrupted his rambling with a light chuckle.

“Don’t worry dude, I could give less of a shit what you think of the city I guess. Just trying to make a bit of talk. You miss your family right? I mean I don’t blame you. I would too.” You spoke evenly. He smiled slightly and took the last puff of his smoke and tossed it to the pavement.

“Yeah.” Was all he said.

You finished your smoke as well and put it out. You both still just sat there in silence staring at the street ahead of you. It was a bit busy, but nothing to crazy for a Saturday night.

Then, Eddie broke the silence this time. “Uh - Stone tells me you’re an artist?” You turned to find him already looking at you with a hint of curiosity.

“I guess. I mean, if you wanna call it that.” You smiled.

“I’d like to see your art sometime.” He said quietly, almost like he didn’t know what he was saying, like it just flowed naturally out of his mouth.

“Sounds like a plan.” You stated as you stood up. He got the idea and stood up as well, as you both made your way back inside the dingy nightclub.

Unit Reflection

For the ‘Illustration and publishing’ project our brief was to look at a building and from the building create an 8 double sided page publication that also includes text. The building could be any building of our own choosing as well as the text included. For my publication I chose the building I worked in in Norwich, which is a ladies clothing shop called ‘Sahara’, creating a small publication about a day working at Sahara and interactions between myself, co workers and customers. The book included illustrations and quotations from customers, with the narrative being what goes at the beginning of the day to what happens at the end.

To start this project I listened to customers conversations during the course of one day and made a note of the most memorable, amusing and outrageous. Theses formed the text part of my project and were the starting points for the imagery. I made small thumbnail sketches of the customers and also of the building and details of the interior of the shop. Together with the text, these formed the main part of imagery for my project.

I knew that I wanted to create a book made from fabric which would reflect the nature of the building. I investigated the work of artists who work in textiles for example Louise Gardiner and Rosie James, to look at how they combine contemporary images with stitch. The freely drawn figure work of Rosie James lead me to think about using the Wacom tablet to change my sketches and photos into a digital illustration. These could then be printed onto fabric and then stitched together with a machine. I also looked at other artists work on Pinterest, focusing mainly on antique fabric books. These images of books gave me a better understanding as to how I could construct my book and what materials to use. I found that there wasn't any example of what I wanted to do so due to this I took inspiration from children’s fabric books.

After completing my first Wacom illustration for the book, I experimented with colour. Originally I wasn't intending on using colour but after doing a colour version I felt like this would improve the book, showing a reflection of the colourful clothes in the shop and also make it more visually exciting to look at. The style of illustration has a slightly comic book look to it as I looked at comics and also other children books illustration and was inspired by the free flowing movement the illustrations have. I also experimented with the font of the text. The font I decided on works well with my illustrations as it has a hand written look to it. The lines of the font are quite thick, matching the lines of my figures. The font letters are also at different heights, making them look not so perfect and straight. This is a reflection of my own drawings and also of the stitching holding the book together.

To construct the book I had to think about the layout. How would the illustration and quotation merge and link together? To do this I made a few different layouts. Originally I had planed for the image to be half a page then for the quote to make the other. The challenge with this would be how the image and quote once stitched on, how the backing of the stiching would be visible on the next page and over lap and obstruct the corresponding image and text on the other pages. To solve the problem of this I changed the layout and sizing of the images and quotes making it so that the image takes up one side and then the quote sit comfortably in the centre of the corresponding page.

While doing this project I improved my Wacom tablet skills by using different styles of brushes. Typically when doing Wacom illustrations I tend to only use one style of brush but for these illustrations I decided to use a different brush that gave my work a less smooth finish and more of a rough and sketchy look around the edges. I used a different brush head to make the background, which also gave a raw and more contemporary look, complimenting the figures and outfits. To develop and improve my book I could possibly make the illustrations into posters, print them out and hang them around the shop and in the changing rooms. Although if I was to this I would want to keep the figures looking fresh in the Sahara outfits. To do this I would update the outfits the figures are wearing so they are always drawn in clothes which are in season. I could also try and include the illustrations on the mailing list sign up cards. These cards are seen by customers who wish to sign up for catalogues and emails, so this would be good publicity of my work.

If I was to redo my book I would maybe include more quotes and make sure to include everyone that works for Sahara as this would be a nice sentiment for them to all be included. I could also look at the size of my book. Being A5, the book is quite small so fits comfortably in the readers hand. To make it bigger would lose this comfort and make it more cumbersome. This would also add to the cost of creating the book.

Overall I am happy with how my book turned out. I received positive feed back from my peers and also from my co workers at the shop. It is now displayed on the table in the changing room for all the customers to look through. The bright colours of the books front cover make it noticeable and is often picked up by people to look through.

For the next project ‘Illustration as Event’ we were given the task of doing a collaborative project with other members of our class after being put into groups. The collaborative project formed a live group event that was part of the ‘kaleidoscope illustration festival’. Our theme for our stand was Archaeology, the theme was assigned to us by tutors. The lead up to the festival consisted of five tasks set over five weeks that as a group we worked together to complete. These tasks helped us to come up with ideas for the stand and to also let other groups give us feed back about how to Our stand at the illustration event work on and improve our ideas together.

To begin the project we were put into random groups and given a numbered envelope. Inside the envelope was written our theme “Archeology’’. After this we were given our first task of visualising our subject. We had to look and find images that showed a process, objects and colour palette. To do this we discussed as a group what we thought archeology meant and what goes into it before finding images on google. For the rest of our tasks we all worked together in completing them as best we could. To arrange meetings and share ideas we created a Facebook group chat. In the chat we shared images and arranged times to meet and discuss ideas. It also meant if anyone was unable to attend a meeting we could let everyone know what we had discussed. Images shared in our group chat Throughout all the tasks we were given we would come together as a group and discuss our ideas. Working in a group was a new experience as all my previous works while studying have been solo projects. While working in a group everyones thoughts and ideas have to be taken into consideration. Also as a group we had to rely on one another to complete our set tasks and to also respond to group messages. Overall we worked successfully as a group and our end stand came together well.

This project gave me a new insight in to how collaborative projects work. Having not taken part in one before I learnt how to work with other people who had different backgrounds in art and to use each others ways of working to complete tasks that had been set. I also had the experience of working behind a stand as I hadn't taken part in an event like this before. I already had experience working with the public before but this was different as it was explaining what the activities rather than trying to sell clothes. Overall I enjoyed this new experience and way of working, although it wouldn't be a way I would chose to work personally, it was a new experience of sharing ideas and developing them all together.
