A Supplement to the Journey to the West is so hetero lol. I swear it was written by a fan who thought it was weird that Monkey had no love interests in the original story.
Funny thing... I really love Supplement XD
Like I KNOW it is insane and anyone that has read it knows it much more like... Alice in Wonderland kind of storytelling rather than anything coherent. Location change on a whim, people come and go out of nowhere, and it's more of a bunch of symbolism tighten put together than anything like a trusted narrative.
Even Wukong being married to Princess Iron Fan is just more symbolism of him having to deal with his desire and the end villain supposedly being a demon made of the same stone as Wukong but as an Evil Fish... like... you can't just add on 'oh by the way, Wukong has a long-lost fish brother.'
If anything I find the story fascinating that it practically shows an alternative universe of 'what ifs' and impossible feats. Yama is dead. Time travel is a thing. Heaven has fallen to earth. Tripitaka is a general in an army. Wukong impersonating the Six-Eared Macaque..... THERE IS SO MUCH GOING ON AND IT'S ACTUALLY REALLY FUN IF YOU CAN GET WITH IT. The idea that Wukong marries Princess Iron Fan because he knocked her up BY JUMPING IN HER STOMACH is so MIND BOGGLING. Also Red Son just... doesn't exist. It says Princess Iron Fan as NO other children from Demon Bull King and even Wukong is confused because he KNOWS he fought her child.
And if you know the story then you know... it's all a dream/illusion made by a demon trying to eat Tripitaka and honestly, it sounds more like Wukong's nightmare than a dream.
And there are earlier interpretations of Sun Wukong before Wu Cheng'en made his final draft in the 1600s, one of those being Sun Xingzhe from Zaju Xiyou ji by Yang Jingxian who was known for being much lustier and having a wife Princess Golden Cauldron. He also had four other siblings as well. While this never made it in Wu Cheng'en's draft there was a lot more versions of monkey yao before the creation of Journey to the West.
I take it a lot more like modern media whenever a movie or a show tries to give one of the pilgrims a love interest. In many, if not most cases they die... rip. But it is that kinda 'what if' scenarios more for the sake of entertainment or trying to flesh out an already fully fledged character. I doubt SJTTW is meant to try to emulate JTTW the same way modern media doesn't try to claim Sun Wukong would actually have a partner as he has shown no interest in romance within the novel. Romance is left more to Zhu Bajie~
#jttw#supplement to journey to the west#sjttw#anon ask#anonymous#anon#I love the idea of Wukong be plop in an alternate universe that he has no business in like#its like that one nick cage movie but with Wukong#Honestly wish they made a sjttw movie#and just as insane as the book#I dont want a coherent moment in that film#Nothing but Wukong being confused for 95% of the time like the audiecne#ask

hello, back at it again with another request <333
sub!sam monroe with an alternative dom!reader? like eyeliner, edgy music, piercings, the works
reader absolutely degrades the fuck out of poor sam and perhaps overstimulates him?? i mean he did cum from literally just kissing in the film so it does not take much to make the poor boy riled the hell up
i’m sorry if this is weirdly specific or too broad, this is purely self-insert for me as an alternative girlie whose spirit animal is sam monroe

a few months ago sam decided to brat out big time which resulted in you giving him a lesson by giving him a new rule - that he cant get off without your help, which leads us tonight.
you sit on the edge of your bed, finally taking off your platform boots, standing back up to your dresser taking off your various necklaces and bracelets.
your phone buzzes, it’s ts sam texting you. what on earth does he want at 1:28am?.
you open the text from sam that reads “need your help”, you smirk to yourself and respond with a simple, “come here then.”
you swear it hadn’t even been five minutes when your door bursts open, you look at him, panting, flushed, and a prominent outline in his pants. “oh baby, cmere”, it takes him a moment to process your words but once he does he slams the door behind him and immediately sits down on the bed.
when you dont immediately start kissing him he looks at you and pouts “please”. you usher him so he’s lying down comfortably, and so you can straddle him. he lets out a whimper at the feeling of you sitting on him.
you start putting your hands under his black shirt, making him shiver from the cold rings on his hot body. you pull the shirt over his head, and immediately start kissing his neck, he starts squirming, he can’t hold on this long, he held on all day. you pitch his nipple making him whine, “stop squirming bitch”. you start harshly sucking on his sweet spot making him moan out “please”.
ignoring his plea, you start moving down to his collarbones, leaving marks here and there, you make your way down to the top of his pants. holding your fingers over the button of his jeans looking up at him until he mumbles an, “off”. you get his jeans off just leaving him in his boxers, with a clear precum stain, you chuckle, “what do we have here hm?” he squeezes his eyes shut for a moment to somehow avoid you. “jesus you’re hard as a rock sam.” you move your hand to run it over his dick sitting uncomfortably hard in his boxers, he whines “please”.
in one quick motion you remove his boxers, running one finger lightly up his shaft, making it twitch, you hold your palm up to his mouth, “spit”, he spits into your palm. “you’re a dirty little thing sam.” you say, as you move your hand back down and finally wrap your fist around his aching dick. he hisses and throws his head back, you start to jerk him off quickly, making him jolt. you slow down your movements giving him a moment to breathe before speeding up again. “f-fuck” he cries out.
you use your spare hand to push on the bruises you made earlier, making him wince. “you like that dont you? such a little slut for me, arent you?” his fists are gripping the sheets, his chest is all red, along with his face. “are you gonna be a good little whore for me sam?” he starts nodding frantically unable to form a coherent sentence. “show me how good then. cum for me.” at this he lets out an absolutely whoreish moan, and cums hard, painting your fist white, he’s letting out breathy moans and whimpers as you stroke him through it.
you leave a kiss on his hip bone as you keep stroking him, his legs start shaking, and he looks at you pleading, his eyes begin to tear up at the overstimulation hits him. “be a good slut for me sam, you can give me another one.” he starts shaking his head in disagreement, you grab his chin with your free hand, “it doesnt matter what you want, youre gonna give it to me, because thats what whores like you do.”
the tears fall out of his eyes, the eyeliner that was once on his eyes, is now falling down his cheeks, staining them.
he lets out a hiss as you swipe your thumb across the tip, “oh- im” his dick starts twitching, legs start shaking even more, with your free hand you grab one of his, letting him hold onto you. he starts letting out incoherent babbles, and you squeeze his hand. “you can do it sam, cmon give it to me” and with that, he’s cumming for a second time, moaning, whimpering, whining, the whole lot.

Hi hello. I've been wondering something about the ending of this week's episode of The Sign and since you did that analysis on the lighting in the P&T sex scenes, I was wondering if I could pick your brain about it. The ending scene felt a bit sudden and while I can get behind the thought that they are both acting on emotions and not really thinking about things, I can't help but wonder. Is there either a scene missing, like we're not getting the full picture? Or is it even fully real? Since, and here's the lighting part that made me wonder, we only see a bokeh-ish effect on the scene (not even as full bokeh as earlier scenes though) but not Tharns bright pinkish colors. Idk, I might be wayyy off base and the scene has just a bokeh-ish effect bc the scene is driven by Phaya or bc of something else entirely, but I needed the thought out of my head. Hope you don't mind!
Thanks for reaching out! My interpretation of the final scene with Phaya coming to see Tharn and them two fucking is real, for a few reasons a) now that Phaya and Tharn can actually fuck whenever they want to, they dont need to be imaginging it and b) if it were a dream I do not think we would have seen Phaya looking as corpse-like as he did when he knocked on the door. We have had moments of reality where we have only had Phaya's bokeh effect in a real physical intimacy situation (goodnight kiss in Nong Khai) and moments where we have only had Tharn's coloring effect in real physical intimacy situations (bathroom).
Now, personally, when handled well I love a good sex as affirmation moment, and would have loved Phaya and Tharn having sex as a way for Phaya to affirm to Tharn that he is alive and that he is staying by his side. I would posit the reason that we only get Phaya's bokeh effect here is because he has become enlightened about Wansa and Tharn and so his emotions are the ones spilling out, his need to pleasure Tharn is the primary emotion. I would also be comfortable saying that Tharn ran with it because he has had a series of incredibly emotionally disastrous days where he was really not sure if Phaya was going to live or die and having Phaya here and physical with him he would naturally melt right in to the sexual intimacy with Phaya as well. And I do think that is what they ultimately were going for here. However, I think we missed out on a lot of strong emotions and clarity from this moment because of editing issues.
From my perspective, The Sign has been suffering from a storyboarding and editing issue for weeks now and so I think the confusion about whether or not this was real, is a very valid question to have. I especially think the confusion around this scene because of its suddenness is incredibly understandable and for me stems primarily from weak editing and writing around the scene. I can't know what they have and have not filmed, I can't know what they did or did not cut, but I know there is often a ridiculously large amount of content that is made and that must be trimmed down to fit inside a reasonable episode length. It is totally possible that they filmed a longer scene and trimmed it down, it is totally possible that this was the intended pathway from the beginning. Either way, Episode 9 was one of the more legible and cohesive episode we've had in weeks, but confusion still lingers because The Sign continues to miss the mark on maintaining the most coherent narrative possible.
TL;DR I think the scene is real and the uncertainty stems from poor editing.

I'm dying for any ghostflower TWBOS content you have
Can u give us any teaser 🥺 pretty please?
(If it's not too inconvenient off)
TEASER 8 - CH.9 TIL WE BURN OUR SKINS
Hi anon, sorry for answering so late !!
Dont worry, I got your back now 😎 And since I'm so late against, here's two teaser for chapter 9 !
(side note : im so happy to have an ask you can't imagine-)
(teasers below the line)
Teaser 1
Four depressed teenage girls in their pajamas on a bed and a huge tub of ice cream.
They're watching a movie on Webflix, a movie that Margo chose ("It's not so bad," she told them.) And that was perfect, because at the moment, it was an average movie that they needed to watch. With this, they could continue talking while paying a little attention to what was going on.
It's hot in Mumbattan. The three guests each brought a fan, but it wasn't enough. Gwen didn't know she would need a seventy-centimeter-high pot of ice cream in her life until Margo told her it existed on her Earth.
Drowning your sorrows in ice cream, that's the ideal solution!
And by sticking your hands on it, you could be sure of being cooled off.
Gwen also had to admit that she'd seen… better than that. It was a film aimed at young adults (and to be completely honest, female young adults), very cliché and sometimes lame. Fortunately, the two main actors came to save the shaky scenario.
“Margo, I thought you said it was a good movie… Peni whined.
— Actually, I said “not so bad”.
— That’s not the word I would have used to describe it…”
“So, about your parents? Gayatri asked. How's it going?
— Still through divorce, but there's progress! If lawyers are right, just another month and it will finally be behind!"
With the divorce, Margo was already planning a lot of things: for starters, she will finally be able to invite her friends to her dimension without having to hide all the details of their visit. But also organize parties: Margo had parties in her soul.
Her mother was often away for work, and she intended to take advantage of it.
“Cool, I’ll come to squat more then, replied Gwen.
— Only if you bring cakes, it’s not open bar here.
— Deal."
Teaser 2 / CW : Implied nudity
Satisfied with her work, she comes to join him in the bathtub. He, in the meantime, had managed (with great difficulty) to sit down in the water. She comes to settle in too, pressing her back against the wall, which is still a little cold despite the scalding water.
When she opens her arms, Miles understands the message and comes to stick to her, letting her surround his body with her arms. He doesn't need to be asked to put his head back where it was earlier, that is to say against her neck, and once again inhales the comforting smell of peaches.
She lets her hands absently caress his chest and back, rubbing the bath suds onto his skin. He hums in pleasure and contentment, pressing himself deeper into her.
He knows he shouldn't. He had spent the last few hours trying to convince himself that he absolutely had to end this twisted relationship with her before it was too late.
But the feeling of her body against his acted like morphine, and he was addicted to it. He wants this moment to never end. He hears Gwen in the distance asking him if he wants her to wash his hair: that was probably a bad idea given the time. He would probably fall asleep with wet hair, and his mother would go crazy if she saw him do that, especially at this time of year.
But the “yes,” leaves his mouth before he can even form that coherent thought. She makes him to stand up so she can access his shampoos, and grabs the shower head, making sure to lower the water temperature to rinse his hair.
He closes his eyes, and he feels like he's falling asleep almost immediately. But he stays awake just so he doesn't miss what happens next.
IMPORTANT NOTE : hey people who actually speak english unlike me, would you mind helping me ? In Teaser number 1, i said "Four depressed teenage girls". So idk if it's okay in english, but since it doesn't work in french it makes me confused. I don't mean to say that they have depression, just that they're all in a bad mood (but i can't really write that you know ?). But everytime I try to translate it on internet, they all give me "depress". So if anyone can help me on this 🙏

Hi! Fic Anon here again! I love talking to you about these things too! Because its so hard to find like minded people about Bridgerton 🥲.
I have to be careful about it on insta because everyone on there just seem to hate Eloise (though there are good edits). I kind of saw some still of part two and i dont like it 🥲 like at all. I don't think I want to watch s3 after this 💀.
Also, I was thinking about Kate and Eloise what do you think of their dynamic? They dont interact much in canon but i have a feeling that they would be really close. I am excited to see what your fic has in store for them. Good luck ☺
Hi Fic Anon!
I get that completely, but hey we get to enjoy watching the stuff and then playing in the sandbox and discussing all the things that could be better.
I am on the same page with you about Kate and Eloise. I think it goes back to what I was saying about Eloise and Anthony. Eloise and Anthony may seem very different but at their core they are very similar as principled stubborn characters who tend towards pride and self-righteousness.
Anthony and Kate are also very similar in these ways, they are definitely not an opposites attract couple - they share a similar outlook in putting family first and making sure that their families have the best possible that they can provide them.
In other words Kate and Eloise are similar as stubborn prideful but principled people.
It’s also interesting that Kate is different from Anthony in the sense that Kate has had to fight against the uphill battles of sexism and racism to be able to better Edwina’s life. So Kate and Eloise actually have a lot of similar opinions I would think.
Kate is the type of person Eloise could become given a few more years of maturity. In fact Eloise is likely to be able to do more and push further with her principles because Eloise as the white noble daughter of a long standing British noble family does have privileges that Kate the daughter of an Indian bureaucrat doesn’t. Kate was able to make the best of a terrible situation for Edwina. Eloise if she matures a bit (and the show allowed her to develop coherent politics) would be able to help a lot of women.
Plus, there is the fact that Eloise if kind of the first Bridgerton Kate becomes friends with, they have their first proper interaction at the Danbury Talent Show soirée and Kate likes her enough that it slightly (just barely) softens her to Anthony, and then they gently bully Anthony together. Then later staying at Aubry Hall, Kate and Eloise have a sincere moment of bonding over the position of women and spinisters in society, and Kate seems genuinely pleased to talk with her.
It depends on what Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley’s filming schedules are like, because as much as the Historian in me wants them in the show because as entitled members of the family they would be (like them going off on a second honeymoon during the season - logical for the show but also means that Anthony is shirking his governmental duties because he isn’t sitting in on the 1815 session of the House of Lords), they are both such good actors that I don’t want them turning down great more significant roles to be side characters in Bridgerton for the foreseeable futures.
BUT
If Simone Ashley sticks around I want them to develop her friendship with Eloise, that predates even her relationship with Anthony. Like I love Kanthony, and they are obviously still in the honeymoon phase but it’s a waste of Kate’s interesting character to just be having her rolling around in bed with her husband in every scene we see of her.
So I really really hope they do a storyline of her embracing her power as the Viscountess and involved in that a friendship with Eloise, who encourages her to accept her power and who Kate encourages to think about things in nuanced ways.
Having met Francesca now, I am also super interested in the sisterly relationship between Kate, Eloise and Francesca who all seemed to rub up against a woman’s role in slightly different ways. (Having Daphne in the mix, as the perfect Paragon who found her crown as the diamond a burden would also be interesting but Phoebe Dyvenor isn’t coming back and honestly good for her)
Basically I think that Kate and Eloise are similar enough that they would and do make great friends, but different enough in maturity, upbringing and experience that they’d challenge each other and help each other improve
What do you think their friendship would be like Fic Anon?

hi sarah! if it’s not too much trouble can you give starter horror recommendations for a guy who feels some trepidation about the genre because i think it’s like, very cool and interesting and have been thinking about writing some horror stories but i’m also the easily frightened type so i was wondering if there’s a way i can ease myself in before working up to the super duper scary stuff?
yes!!! i will try to give you some variety of subgenres/subject matter but if you have like a specific type you’re looking for i can also add more recs based on that! but just in general:
•cloverfield (2008) is one of my all time favs and i think it walks the line of being scary but not like….disturbing. it’s not shield your eyes and grit your teeth type horror, it’s more like adrenaline and putting yourselves in the protagonists shoes and wondering what you would do in their situation. it’s found footage (it may or may not give you motion sickness so if you’re sensitive to rapidly moving camera work maybe watch it on a small screen or skip it) and i get full body chills when i watch it every single time because of how real it feels. despite all that, there’s very little up close shots of the monster and pretty minimal blood/gore.
•scream (1996) due to it being satirical and self-aware, a lot of the scary tense parts are cut by comedic moments and i think that helps a lot. i honestly think the scariest part is the opening sequence, so if you get past that feeling okay you’re probably gonna be fine throughout. there’s definitely injuries and blood but nothing i’d constitute as body horror, and again the movie likes to make little wink wink jokes which makes the tone pretty tame
•the cabin in the woods (2011) basically see above it’s also very self referential and subversive and also just like if you’re interested in horror such an amazing take on the genre, but it’s a little more intense than scream with the gore in certain parts
•poltergeist (1982) is considered a family friendly horror movie and i agree with that assessment <3 the silly little 80s practical effects make it hard to get scared despite the child actors absolutely slaying, and i think as far as horror creatures (villains?) go, ghosts and poltergeists and spirits are pretty chill
•the blair witch project (1999) is very iconic and like laid the groundwork for other found footage films, and luckily it is not very scary until the last like 2 minutes <3 and when it is scary, nothing gory/graphic is shown! for me the real horror of blair witch isnt even the witch, its the thought of being lost in the woods with no way out and the movie is just so realistic that i always start to panic a little on behalf of the characters. some people think its boring though! i dont i love it <3
coherence (2013) is not very well known but its (to me) the coolest fucking movie in the world. i think it has such a brilliant and original premise, and i’d categorize it as horror even though i consulted my mom and she thinks it’s more of a thriller. either way i highly recommend and there’s no blood or gore or anything like.....in your face scary? its more like a sense of dread that builds up over the course of the movie
they live (1988) is john carpenter <3333 and it’s pretty tame compared to other john carpenter movies. it’s horror but it’s also scathing social commentary and kinda action and again it has those 80s special effects so the scary little faces are less scary and more like...party city masks. its also referenced in a surprising number of other things (free guy feat. joe keery for one) and i think its a prime example of how horror can communicate such a wide variety of themes
and you probably already know about this but in case you dont: doesthedogdie.com has a comprehensive crowd-sourced list of potential triggers for every movie. the site does a great job including phobias/triggers that aren’t necessarily common and warning you if a movie has those, so it’s a great resource if you want to avoid certain subjects all together. happy horror watching <3
#i hope this is a good list if it counts for anything i think these movies are all absolute bangers#anon#answered

do one every ten lines :)
🤝 for a headcanon about a connection with one of the receiver's mutual
big fan of dave (yifftwiceplz) and dave (dj-shitslot) basically looking in a mirror at each other at all times, younger self in awe of "older" self (its just that dj is a guardian / has more responsibility) and older self looking back at younger self fondly. thats the good shit. they dont make shit like that anymore but we do like you pass your 13 year old self on the street and your gut reaction is to light up and say oh my god i love you and your 13 year old self is like holy shit, the parts of myself i always wanted to shine through are right there plain as day, we made it
🌇 for a headcanon about morning- or evening rituals
dave wakes up in the afternoon and mostly just lounges around for a few hours. due to his audhd and dysfunction he cant do Anything in any day unless 1. it was preplanned a week in advance 2. he has his obligatory four hour Do Fuck All time. where mainly he smokes weed and listens to music loud enough you can hear it across the house (even though he's wearing headphones). and then once he feels like a person he'll have breakfast, shower, brush his teeth etc and focus on work
😡 for a headcanon about something that makes them angry
it's so hard to make dave angry. maybe it was easier in sburb but he's genuinely a very happy guy. i specifically decided to RP him after i saw that smile on daves face on the lilypad i thought. my guy can heal now. so mostly any time he gets mad it's probably just that he's overstimulated. which is nebulous and random and hard to predict and he tries to grit his teeth and not show it until he snaps, which isn't ideal but he hates looking sensitive or asking someone to back off him in terms of actual real true anger - i dont think he feels it. maybe for a brief moment if someones attacking his friends - only a moment because immediately following that he's got his body and sword between them
🚗 for a transportation-themed headcanon
this bitch cant drive. bro never drove; they lived at the top floor apartment in a walkable neighbourhood what good would a car do yknow? bro had the hoverboard for any long distance trips actually it would be so moe of him to start skating again maybe i should do that. but anyway mostly he walks everywhere he goes. he FREQUENTLY forgets he can fly because thats like... a super power to him. to be used during a fight. but a long fly doesnt work as well as a long walk to clear your head if you have attention issues and mildly dissociate. hed end up in tennessee
hc + 🚬 for a headcanon about a bad habit
oh boy definitely the drinking is his worst habit. it's well-managed but sometimes gets out of hand which is HARD to recognize because dave does not typo when he's drunk. he says roxy is either weak or faking it. striders in general are high dexterity builds so it doesn't matter if his eyes work or if he's coherent - them fingers are gonna find the keys. but he's also a fun drunk! he and roxy share that trait where you get a little booze in them and it's a little easier for them to laugh and open up and be confident in themselves so dave is really good at playing off being totally wasted with being totally charming. and it leads to people letting him drink more than he should quite frequently. luckily karkat isn't as fond of drinking as he is and has a keen eye for when dave is too far gone
hc + 🎥 for a film/tv-themed headcanon
dave is very passionate about film/tv even with his limited "real" education on it, dude just has an eye for it. good editing / camerawork tickles him to death like in a reality show where the interviewee is oblivious to something and there's a slow camera zoom in... got him seal-clapping and kicking his legs in glee part of the reason he's always so busy and tired (which is hard to see because he's always online and blogging casually - that's just part of his process and he just responds to a couple things at a time) is he's such a perfectionist with his own videos. he will not hire an editor. no one understands his vision.

what are some of your favorite stories! yours, other people's, small, big, etc! that's probably a big thing to think about so if you want something specific ummm recommend me a writer or three!
man!!! okay excellent question. i think ill still do three but ill talk about different things with each one; bear in mind that this is like, off the top of my head, so its not Definitive (ill try to sneak em in as honorable mentions but even stuff with a huge impact on me is gonna be harder to think of/talk about if it was like ten years ago, yknow?)
oh, and if you want to read my stories, you can see those here =3c
Kill Six Billion Demons
this one probably has to be The Bar for quality in my mind, at least at the moment.
82 White Chain Born In Emptiness Returns To Subdue Evil (yes, full name) has maybe one of the most compelling character arcs i've ever read;
the art is stunning, and the worldbuilding incredibly thorough (in a way that makes the history of the world feel dynamic and relevant, rather than just being tons of lore to sift through);
the fights whip ass and the logic of the cool shit that the characters do is directly tied to the underlying view the story has about Power™, which directly influenced my thought process for a lot of the plot details of "Dawnsister";
and, sort of related to the two previous points, the entire thing is just so fucking coherent, thematically speaking. all the side stories and bits of hover text, all the bits of commentary and passages from fictional manuscripts in the image descriptions, weave together and do some really good allegorical storytelling for the messages Abaddon wants to send (and to underline/counterpoint whats happening in the comic itself), and the details tend to come back later to be relevant in a big way
its just. high marks on literally every metric i can think of. this is the kind of "every line (both kinds) is crammed with intent and nothing is wasted" stuff i wanna do with my writing
(honorable mention for this category: Everything Everywhere All At Once, for sheer quality of writing and similar levels of "god they planned this from the fucking start". one of the only films to make me cry)
Homestuck (im not linking it we all know this one)
i have less to say about this, but i think its one of the stories that's had the biggest stylistic impact on my writing. i was kind of doing it even before reading homestuck but it SUPER cemented it: the 2nd-person voice and the fuckery where a character's thoughts, the narrator's description of a scene, and instructions from the audience/in-universe sources of Brain Interference all blend together is something i keep coming back to in both 3rd-person limited perspective AND 2nd-person (typically transformation-related) work
it also takes all the "using every possible avenue for Additional Storytelling" thing that i was describing about KSBD and ratchets it the fuck up. like this comic is repeatedly the benchmark for "what kind of weird, media-mixing, format-breaking shit can i do with comic panels and text rendering", even if i dont plan to dabble in webpage shenanigans like Hussie did
(i cant think of an honorable mention here, but i liked the way Tyranny presented lore and history to you in hyperlinks in the text, so that you could just HAVE background information your character would have instead of having to Do Exposition. also check out Vast Error if you liked the shit homestuck was doing with multimedia storytelling)
Ascension: Tales of Twin Tails
this one is just one of my favorites. out of this list its for sure been the most impactful on me personally, in like an identity sense at least. this shit transed my gender and othered my kin. its one of the only OTHER pieces of media to ever make me teary-eyed. its about being transgender extremely literally but also in some really creative And Also Extremely Dope ways
the fight scenes are about as grand in scope as the ones in KSBD, and the way that magic works in the setting is just about as thematically-strong (and also offer lots of room for insight about the characters, as well as self-reflection for the reader to have fun with).
the relationships are really, really well-done, and there are scenes that stick with me two years later as just strikingly and stunningly tender and intimate and vulnerable; the characters are just as strong (Coyotl is like, Top Three with White Chain, and if you know anything about me at all you know that Cat Kitten became my entire identity for months after reading it)
read it please read it i will evangelize this novel until the end of time
(honorable mention as far as having an effect on Me As A Person is probably like..... Night in the Woods; super super natural dialogue, lots of compelling relationship turmoil and hit some fears that were Extremely Relevant to me at the time of my life that i played it)
ty for asking btw!! i hope you get around to enjoying one of these =^w^=

just seen some people say they didnt vibe with max's running up that hill scene and i think that reactions and people reacting quickly about media for socials is part of the cause of this new thing where people have so many divisive opinions. when i watch something new i am eyes and ears at full alert, taking in everything as it goes rather than trying to figure the plot out ahead of time, and i realised i would make a shit reactor because it's all happening internally. i dont want to express anything aloud as i watch because you would miss something; dialogue, music, emotional beats? even if stories aren't meant to be consumed in dead silence, i'm amazed at how quickly people form coherent opinions about characters a split second after they've done something instead of just seeing how everything plays out. i'm thinking about lucas 'betraying' the party in s4, people thinking he was genuinely hunting eddie instead of just seeing where his story went. in terms of byler, even now with the story unfinished i am so unable to conjecture real 'proof' or evidences of byler wholly because its open ended! i wont judge anyone until the story is complete.
i'm just amazed by these reactors because theyre usually just GA/nerds, and its fascinating to see them respond and react so quickly and so judgementally, i wonder if it's partially for views now instead of an honest reaction theyre sharing online.
Reaction videos are not something I watch, unless a very funny clip gets shared, I guess because I'm maybe feeling some of the same things you are - they don't feel sincere a lot of the time? I don't think there's anything wrong with all of them. I know a lot of people like watching them especially after they finish a show so they can go back and see what others are taking away which could be interesting. It depends on the reactor. So I can understand the appeal to an extent, but I don't personally like a lot of that format because like you said, the initial over the top gut reaction isn't that useful to me? I'm also mentally absorbing a show if I watch. I'll gasp or maybe cry a little at a scene, laugh, but mostly I'm just watching. The reactor videos are a performance, but then these folks use that performance to inform their opinion. It's a little too off the cuff for my personal taste.
I think for me, I just can't imagine ever filming myself watching something to showcase my emotions, especially if it's something I really care about? So I don't trust reactors as true fans. Because it's just not so authentic. You're aware of the content you're trying to capture. You overly emote, you pay more attention to the fact that you're recording. It's never completely a natural opinion or reaction. I'm not so much into livetweeting/liveblogging, either, so that's probably a factor. Sounds pretentious, but if I care about a movie or show, the first time I watch it I need to be present.
I know when season five drops, I'm turning off my phone from the moment it's available on netflix until I've finished watching what's out myself. That's my plan. Divisive is the key word. Social media moves fast and everyone wants to be the first to post something or see something or point something out. I'll be ok being a day late to things!!
It's why the main Byler fandom on tumblr isn't appealing to me anymore, because one thing I kept seeing is people getting pissy about folks 'pointing out stuff that's been talked about already too many times' or 'I already thought of this theory first and this user is copying me now' as if everyone watched and thinks at the same pace? As if people innately know every post that's ever been made on tumblr or added under the tag? Calm down. Yeah, if it's a rage bait opinion, or blatant plagiarism, but that's not what I'm talking about.

As someone who is older and in a few fandoms, I'll tell u why older ppl dont really like it when the media they're consuming isnt happy in the end. Older ppl have been through a lot and have seen the real face of humanity and how helpful they "really" are, so they like media consumed to lie to them and keeping them happy for the time being. I agree about the ending of parasite, the writer and director wanted a shock factor to remain in viewers minds when they leave the cinema so they made it that way. That is what made the film what it has become, and now ppl are discussing the realities of capitalism alot more due to the pandemic and how poor and working classes are becoming poorer
Hi anon,
I find myself disagreeing with you. While escapism and fantasy are one of the reasons why people turn to fiction, and why it can be so powerful, I do not think that it is fair to assume that everyone who is older will disregard all the meaning-making potentials of art only because they are well-acquainted with the harsh realities of the world. For one, it totally disregards the role of tragedy and violence and horror as means of catharsis. But mostly it feels almost a little insulting, in a way, to suggest that people “age out” of the ability to appreciate all of the purposes and possibilities of creativity.
This is for a very similar reason that I have to disagree with the framing of Bong’s decision to not include a happy ending to Parasite as a desire to include a “shock factor”. While he has included more hopeful endings in some of his films, it is clear that the aim of his films is not to provide a means for escapism and fantasy but to explore, metaphorically, aspects of society (while telling engaging stories). Through his use of symbolism, allegories, metaphors and narrative, he’s able to make these commentaries differently than a documentary would. He can make these observations feel visceral, emotional and tangible in ways a non-fiction pieces might never be able to. His art is always intentionally political. Sometimes he’s portrayed these messages in ways that felt a little bit “too on the nose”/cartoon-ish in my opinion (for instance with Snowpiercer), but Parasite is such a great exercise in nuance. And Bong’s explorations are so clear and deliberate, within the entire film. The escalation of the violence might be surprising to some (my colleagues certainly did not expect it), but honestly to anyone with a grasp of cinematic language (and anyone who has watched anything from the Korean new wave, for that matter), the building of the tension is so clearly.... explicit? The big scene is shot to be shocking and visceral, but that moment of violence, the culmination of all the tensions and conflicts, is expected and set up. And the ending, the futility of the hope, is so coherent, thematically, narratively and even character-wise? So to reduce that to “shock value” feels very unfair to a piece of fiction that is so meticulously crafted and so clear in its intent.

@rochc93 I’m also answering the Ethan one but the Meredith post got so long adsfgdfsdf so I’m answering in a separate post.
Ethan Hunt:
Why I like them
He’s suffered so much and been betrayed so often that it would almost be hard to blame him if he had turned cynical and cruel but he didn’t. Even knowing on the deepest emotional level that a good outcome isn’t guaranteed no matter how hard he tries and that opening himself to love also means opening himself to pain, he chooses kindness and hope and love over and again and again
Why I don’t
This doesn’t make me like him less, but Ethan is so desperate to save everyone else that somewhere along the way he seems to have stopped factoring his own wellbeing into the equation at all. And if there’s a selfish bone in his body it’s that he's so deep in his panicked determination to protect himself from the pain and guilt of loss that it doesn’t seem to have registered that losing him would hurt his loved ones as much as losing them would hurt him.
Favorite episode (scene if movie)
Oh gosh ummm ... this changes day to day but I think at the moment it’s Ethan waking up to Benji after the torus
Favorite season/movie
I mean for me it has to be Rogue Nation or Fallout, but we never would have gotten those without every one of the films that came before (yes, even MI2) and I love them all
Favorite line
“Zero kill count” from MI1. I’m almost certainly being dramatic, but I always find myself wondering if Ethan would have become who he is without that line guiding the writing of his character throughout the franchise.
Favorite outfit
They ... they’re almost all black ... I’m sorry I know I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time looking at this character but I truly cannot distinguish his outfits in my mind.
EDIT: Can I say the grey suit-vest from MI7 set images? That one is good I like it.
OTP
Okay so I have to say Ethan/Benji, but a part of me is happily convinced that Ethan and Luther have been quietly married since sometime after he and Julia separated. It’s not a secret, but it happened during a mission and there were more pressing things to talk about, and by now it’s become a standing game of “how long will it take our Actual Spy Friends to notice”
As an extension of the above I really like the idea of Luther/Ethan/Benji. Also Ethan and Julia love each other so fucking much and nothing will ever take that away.
Brotp
I’m intentionally not saying one of the characters from the ask above in order to get to more of them, so I have to say Ethan & Ilsa—I think their dynamic is really fascinating and I’m really hoping MI 7 & 8 develop it further. I also really love Ethan & Jane’s relationship, though.
Head Canon
Ethan likes to read in his (concerningly sparse) free time. It’s useful enough for keeping one’s brain active and understanding/engaging with the world that it slips past the persistent guilt that’s always insisting he ought to be doing something useful, while at the same time it allows him to escape into lives entirely different than the one he feels trapped in. Usually fiction, but nothing that revolves around violence; a too-familiar detail in even the most unrealistic war story or spy thriller can make it abruptly hard to breathe. Instead he gravitates to those rare sci fi and fantasy books that don’t have some sort of violent conflict at their core, and equally to stories about everyday sorts of people—to him, those too bear the sheen of fantasy.
Unpopular opinion
Not only am I ready to go to bat for Ethan as a complex 3-dimensional character, I would argue that Ethan’s characterization in MI2 (for all of its cartoonishness and the fact that I don’t necessarily think this was the intention) can be read as coherent stage of his character progression. Basically, I see Ethan in the beginning as having responded to the trauma of MI1 by attempting to shut himself off from emotion and connection and trust, hence the whole cool bad boy persona (which unfortunately for him he very bad at, seeing how he is not, in fact, cool), and his arc in the film is him making the decision that defines him through the rest of the franchise: to lean into love and protect what is good, in defiance of the pain it makes him vulnerable to.
A wish
I just ... I just want him somehow to get out of the IMF and let himself be out and to have the peace and happiness he fights so hard to protect for others but seems to have given up on for himself. I don’t know how this could happen but I want it so bad
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen
His life is a mess that so I’ve gotta lower my hopes here. As long as he doesn’t die or lose Benji, Luther, or Julia (and preferably not anyone else he’s cares about either, but again, low standards), I can deal with it.
Oh also if there wasn’t a forced romance with Ilsa that would be lovely.
5 words to best describe them
loving, kind, determined, loyal, disaster
My nickname for them
This ask game is making me wonder if I actually have a nickname for any character. I’m not sure I do
#ethan hunt#mission impossible#i love him ...#the mere fact that 'loving' and 'kind' were the first words that came to mind#to describe the lead in an *action franchise*#reminded me why all over again#also regarding ethan reading#i've decided he read and cried over#watchmaker of filigree street and the sequal#mostly because i just read and loved them#but also because i think he'd really relate to Mori#they're not that similar in personality#(if anything i'd say Ethan is more like Thaniel)#but i think he'd very much relate#to the ways Mori tries to shoulder the responsibility of knowing#he can substantially affect the world#and the guilt of never feeling as if he is doing enough#or doing it right

The Night Before XII
Chapter: 12/15
Rating: U
Summary: Ringo hangs around after the club closes and meets a stranger.
Tags: Smut, Slow Burn
Pairing: George Harrison/Ringo Starr (Background McLennon)
AO3 link here / Fic masterlist here
The following day was spent rather unproductively, Ringo hardly moved from his bed and refused to get dressed into anything decent. Paul and John had left early, they could easily tell when Ringo wanted to left alone, but they ensured that at least one of them would be available should Ringo need anything at all. Last night hardly felt tangible, but the grogginess of Ringo's mind and the overhanging sadness made it difficult to forget. He wasn't entirely sure what he felt so bummed out about: was it merely the pain he felt to see George with another man? Or was it the sheer humiliation Ringo had experienced, having to expose his feelings to George in such an unappealing way? Perhaps it was a mixture of both, but he was determined to only let it sully this single day for tomorrow held endless possibilities and he truly believed that the date with George would still go fairly well, even with all this tension now risen to the surface.
Sometimes it was nice to have days like this, comfortably lounging around in pyjamas with no real objectives in mind. Ringo channelled out any lasting aggression he was harbouring by blasting music on his speakers, just about loud enough to stop himself from thinking. He had more than several comfort films to watch, many of which starred his favourite actor Peter Sellers, to make the time fly by without much thought. Throughout the day he conversed sparsely with John and Paul, neither of them addressing the actual events of last night but their concerned tones were enough of an allusion.
He treated himself to some pizza for dinner, settling down in front of his television and letting the hours pass. These days of nothingness were necessary, especially with the amount of excitement he'd been unwillingly plagued with this past week. Part of him debated not even bothering to get into bed, just to gradually pass into unconsciousness on his sofa, but the mature section of his mind - one which was often ignored - convinced him to tuck himself into the covers and let sleep wash over him.
Ringo gladly slept well into the afternoon, the only thing getting him out of bed was his growling stomach. Reaching for his phone he swiped away a variety of meaningless notifications then paused when he noticed a text from George. His mixed feelings were considerably less tangled than they had been previously, but there was still a hint of dread in his stomach when he thought about him.
Look outside your door.
It was sent a couple of hours ago, Ringo worried he'd missed whatever surprise had been waiting for him. He didn't appreciate the cryptic tone, nonetheless he padded over to the front of his flat and cautiously opened the door. Sitting before him was a vase sporting a diverse bouquet of flowers, Ringo wasn't even sure he could name half of them. He looked at it for a while, registering how to fit this in with his torn attitude towards George, and noticed a small card perked upon one of the leaves; he picked it up and inspected it closely.
First of many treats I have planned for tonight. I hope your hangover isn't too bad and you aren't regretting giving me another chance.
Ringo found himself smiling, he must have looked rather odd standing in nothing but his boxers and socks clutching onto this card for longer than he needed to. The thought of one of his neighbours seeing him in this precarious situation spurred him to take the vase inside and shut the door behind him, he inhaled the fresh smell deeply as he brought them into the kitchen to find an adequate placement. He couldn't deny how beautiful they looked, as much as his pessimism wanted to convince him that this was merely a disingenuous ploy. It was difficult to hold onto the resentment, Ringo found himself leaning more towards the attitude that it was merely an extremely unfortunate situation and that George had never intended on hurting him. What use was there in holding onto the past?
Drinking his morning cup of tea, Ringo stared at the flowers before he realised he should probably respond to George's text.
sorry i only just woke up the flowers are gorgeous thank you so much
You're welcome It's the least I can do really There's plenty more where that came from
flowers or surprises??
Both Just you wait
havent got much a choice have i?
I can pick up you around 7 Does that work for you?
it sure does
Ringo debated whether to send another text, he really wanted to clear the air completely but wondered whether it would be better to do it in person. The last thing he wanted was for the whole night to feel like George was having to make it up to him, rather than it being an enjoyable night for the both of them. He understood George's guilt completely, but it would no doubt make him feel rather ridiculous with the forced nature of it all. If only things could just go back to normal, was that too much to ask? He let out a sigh, drafting out a message and staring at it for a while.
i dont want this to come across as harsh or ungrateful or anything but could we leave out any conversation about last night?? i just want to have a good time and not think about that stupid stuff
Impulsively, Ringo sent it without much further thought. He knew it wasn't the most coherent or effective way of getting across his jumbled thought process but the last thing he needed was even more stress seeping into today.
Last night? What happened last night? I was at home didn't step outside for a second
you're right how silly of me must have you confused for someone else
Ringo felt relief washing over him, a grin spreading across his face as he continued to stare at the message from George. Perhaps tonight wouldn't be as stressful as he'd originally anticipated, he'd almost forgotten how at ease George was able to make him feel.
Now arrived the age old dilemma: what on Earth was he meant to wear? He probably should've asked how upscale the place was that George had picked out for them, he didn't want to risk dressing up too much and looking like a fool. Not that Ringo had a great array of formal clothes to choose from, he wasn't one to frequent snobbish establishments if he could help it. He emptied out almost his entire wardrobe, tossing clothes behind him into barely distinguishable piles like he was starring in a teen movie. It took far longer than necessary to narrow down his choices, eventually settling on a navy jumper and some dark trousers. Looking at himself in the mirror he realised there was no way this outfit reflected the amount of time he'd spent choosing it, but the last thing Ringo was about to do was spend more time agonising over something that no doubt didn't matter much at all.
His stomach started rumbling while he waited for George to arrive, he only hoped the food would be appealing. Ringo had a reputation for being a picky eater, not that he could necessarily help it with his endless list of allergies. He found himself worrying that wherever they went Ringo wouldn't be able to eat anything and it would spiral the entire date into disaster. Exactly where this paranoia came from he didn't know, he only hoped it would disappear as soon as he laid eyes on George.
When the long-awaited text finally arrived, Ringo grabbed his jacket and hurried down the stairs. If he didn't eat soon he felt like he was going to pass out, he knew that wasn't truly the case but he couldn't deny that it felt that way. George beamed at him through the glass window, Ringo reciprocated the grin without it feeling even the slightest bit forced. Everything felt normal, thank goodness.
"Don't you look dashing?" George spoke first, a playful tone in his voice.
"Why thank you." Ringo stepped out of the building "I wasn't quite sure what to wear, if I'm being honest."
George was sporting a dark green turtleneck, on top of which he wore a black chequered blazer with trousers to match. It was the most dressed up Ringo had ever seen him, and it was a pleasant sight to say the least.
"Well you look great." George reassured him "Now, I'm absolutely starving so let's get a move on."
They slid into George's car, Ringo felt a little strange to not be the one doing the driving. As they began pulling out onto the main road, Ringo felt his phone buzz in his pocket. Trying to be polite, he decided to ignore it, it was likely only Paul or John wishing him good luck on his date. Neither of them spoke much as they drove, they'd have plenty of time to talk once they got to the restaurant. George hummed to himself rather quietly, Ringo wasn't sure he was even aware he was doing it. After several minutes, George's hand gradually moved away from the steering wheel and onto Ringo's thigh; he never turned to look at him, his eyes fixed firmly on the road ahead. Experimentally he began rubbing his thumb on the fabric of Ringo's trousers, it was a sweet gesture that Ringo appreciated. Ringo gathered the courage to press it one step further, sliding his own hand underneath and interlocking their fingers together. Once again George didn't turn, but a small smile spread on his face. Ringo wasn't sure this was exactly the safest way to drive, but it helped relax his nerves a little.
Not too much time had passed before they'd arrived at their destination, a rather small building with a cosy looking interior. George turned the ignition off but neither of them made any further movements, sat firmly in their seats with their hands still clasped together. The muffled sound of the bustling city outside the car overpowered any potential awkward silence, Ringo was afraid to move lest he ruined the moment.
"You ready to go inside?" George asked, his voice far quieter than necessary, finally turning to face Ringo.
Ringo nodded, hopefully managing to hide his disappointment as George's hand slipped away. They both stepped outside of the car and made their way towards the restaurant, it was pretty packed but fortunately George had booked a table for the both of them. Anxiety began to creep into Ringo's mind as they were guided to their seats, he hadn't been on a proper date like this for so long, he felt like he'd forgotten how to make regular conversation. Yet sitting down across from George made all those worries disappear, all he needed was the smallest amount of eye contact and he felt safe once again.
"You like wine?" George asked, perusing the drinks menu.
"I can't lie, I'm not a fan." Ringo didn't want to risk sounding rude.
"How about a cocktail or something? Just don't look at the prices." George chuckled "Whatever you want, my treat."
"I'd love a Sex on the Beach, if you're offering." Ringo said rather sheepishly.
"Last time I checked Liverpool didn't have any beaches." George feigned a quizzical expression "I think I'll have one too."
The drinks didn't take too long to arrive, Ringo felt relieved to get some alcohol in his body to help him relax. Although he was determined to not get too drunk tonight, it was about time he experienced George's company sober. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice, rather homely, far less intimidating than the grand vision Ringo had conjured during one of his bouts of paranoia.
Everything just felt right, there was nowhere else he'd rather be or anyone else he'd rather be with. The gleam in George's eyes and the faint smile always barely hidden on his lips let Ringo know that he was feeling the exact same way.

okay so i said i’d write this on friday and then i didn’t but i really wanted to so i’m doing it now
not to be a cinnamon tography nerd on main but i have things to say about vrijdag 21:21, nobody asked for this but here they come:
(spoiler alert this got long so it’s all under the cut, enter at your own risks;))
first off the lighting in the lobby: pure gold (*finger guns*). there is a warm yellow golden light around the door due to the street lights outside, so when robbe walked further, he was in the colder whiter light from the building. Then. when sander came in, the shots of him were in this golden light, which creates such a heavy contrast. i mean look at them side by side, do you see the difference? It could show that the two characters are not in the same head space and that their feelings coming into the scene are very different. Reminder that at this point and time they have not spoken since sander kissed britt and he never answered robbe’s messages either. Sander walks in this scene with the purpose of telling robbe that he chose him, not Britt, but robbe is lost and has “colder” feelings towards sander.
but thennnnn when they both come together in the same frame, the colours fit together so well that robbe blends into the golden light and the background, like he was meant to be there. Whether it’s his hair or his coat he just melts into the set and your focus is instantly drawn to sander who immediately stands out.
also, all of the shots from the beginning are very warm, until we see the “cold ‘robbe’” shot (im calling it that but you know which one i mean i’m bad with words sorry). so not only does it represent their feelings and creates a contrast, it feels very unsettling to the watcher because up until this shot, all of the shots were rather warm and yellow-toned, even the close ups of robbe’s face because the coldness of the shot comes mostly from the white wall behind him. So, having scene all of these golden-lit shots before, when seeing robbe in colder, bluer light it feels surprising, much like robbe felt seeing sander.
sounds in the lobby: not one. there is not one sound but the creaking of sander’s boots and his leather jacket, their breathing and the *yearning noises*, and yet i know for a fact those doors dont block sounds at all, and especially not all the sounds you can hear when robbe is outside walking in, meaning they were cut on purpose. In other clips there is always some background sound to represent their surroundings, to make it feel more real, and cutting that out really shows that this right there is 1) all you should be focused on and 2) all that really matters in the story and in each of the characters’ life at this point. facts also strengthened by 1) the fact that all sounds go quiet the second sander closes the door and is officially in the building and 2) the fact that you see a red light flashing passing by (see picture below) and you don’t. hear. a. thing.
continuing in the sounds in the lobby category is the synchronization of the song with their kiss and most specifically sander’s jaw (because it’s taking up most of the frame). at 1:36 and 1:37 between the lyrics “take it” and “how you want it” there is a cymbal or sound of some sort that resembles a breath in, and that sinks in perfectly with the movement of sander’s jaw that indicates a breath as well (see picture below). If you grew up doing a choreographed sport, you know how important it is for you to do moves on certain cues in the music to show that you were perfectly in harmony with it or else you could get points deducted, and if you didn’t grow up doing those types of sports and you didn’t know music is important, well now you know and it is soooo important because of the harmony. You being in sync with the song you’re choreographed to truly shows that everything is where it’s supposed to be, when it’s supposed to be there, not a second earlier, just like their reunion.
twirling transition from the lobby to the bedroom: *chef’s kiss*
photography in the bedroom: 13/10. they move on to the bedroom with the overhead shot, which is so effective. this shot placed above their heads actually detaches you from the scene because you are placed above them, like an omniscient overwatcher, so yes, you feel like you are intruding, being kind of like a peeping tom, but this shot sold the clip to me because it visually changed things up, but it actually reminded you that you’re just a watcher and that this is something between them, and you aren’t part of the scene. Yes, you feel like you’re intruding, but let me tell you if all the shots we had were ground shots or eye-level shots you would feel the intrusion feels even more.
okay! next! this shot:
this is very much shot with a wide angle lens and you can tell by the disproportion of robbe’s face (how big his forehead is compared to his chin). WA lenses are often used in films and photography to how the surroundings and the world around a certain character or thing. A fairly common shot is a character in the middle of a frame with all of his surroundings to make him/her/them feel small compared to the world around them. Basically, all i’m trying to say is, to me, this shot felt like they were using the WA lens to represent the world around them but it only showed robbe and his chain, or sander’s world in that moment, nothing else matters, it’s just him and robbe, alone, in a universe of their own, much like the outside sound or lack thereof in the lobby.
then when they’re kissing and they intertwine their fingers, the shot goes from having them kissing in focus and the hands out of focus in the foreground to having them out of focus in the background and their hands in focus. I feel like this is pretty self explanatory, but it really shows that they are together, on the same plane, as physical proof. Yes, the lighting and the angles were showing that before in the clip, but in that moment, that physical touch shows that they really are one and in sync.
and then that last overhead shot where it spirals and gets higher and higher plays on that intimacy again, it’s the reminder. Since the last ‘overhead’ (even though it wasn’t *technically* overhead but you get it) shot all that we got were very close, specific or WA shots that made you feel like you were part of the scene. You easily noticed and focused on the details, and that last shot starts like that, focusing on sander’s back and moving to robbe’s hand, bringing your focus from his back that took up most of the frame to robbe’s hand, a very specific element of the frame, until it starts to spiral away, moving higher. THIS REMOVES YOU FROM THE SCENE IN THE MOST PERFECT WAY. Essentially, the focus change from the back to the hand gathers your glances. It makes sure that wherever you were looking before you are now solely looking at robbe’s hand and then the shot moves backwards still focusing on the hand and withdraws you as a watcher from the scene, and basically wraps that scene in a perfect bow. It reminds you that you saw what they were doing, but in the end it really just is all about them and you were only witnessing it. And this is only strengthened by the last two seconds.
After the overhead shot is first moving backwards, it’s lowered again and you’re closer to their heads, and yes you’re still close to them, but not with the level of intimacy you had before because you’re now not part of the scene you’re just a witness floating over them. Fun Fact: it is also the exact same shot that we first get of them on the bed, just lifting up instead of coming down (see picture below) and it just finishes the clip beautifully imo. tl;dr the overhead shots are basically a way to remove you from the scene and imo they were very effective and beautifully done.
geometry in the bedroom: diagonally amazing. As humans, our eyes love geometry, and studies show that if there is some form of geometry in a photo, we’ll tend to like it and appreciate it more. It’s not the geometry from elementary school with squares and triangles, but stuff like the rule of the thirds and multiple lines that all lead to one specific point. What i noticed a lot in this clip particularly was the diagonal lines. First example: sander’s back in the last few shots of the clip: it goes from one corner of the frame and even though it does not reach the other corner of the frame, there is nothing that is particularly blocking it, meaning your eye elongates it and creates a coherent line, which is very appealing to the eye and very easy to follow. It is also part of what makes the shots so ~aesthetially pleasing~, but there are multiple examples of this throughout the clip (see picture below) like the movement of the focus from their faces to the intertwining of their hands, which brings me to my next point.
movement in the bedroom (it sounds so sexual omg i promise it’s not): smooth. One of filmmaking’s golden rule is to not move the camera unless it is absolutely necessary, which is why i was absolutely floored when it happened on three major occasions: 1) at 1:54 when robbe removes sander’s shirt the camera moves along with his hand, essentially keeping robbe’s watch in the centre 2) at 2:09 when the shot goes from sander’s boot up along his leg to robbe climbing sander like a tree and 3) at 3:08 when the focus moves from their faces to their hands holding (but i kind of already talked about that one).
Not going to lie, i have no particular analysis for 2 apart from the fact that it might have been used for contrast because of the black jeans and boots compared to the skin, but it looked so good that i am not mad it was included in the final cut. As for 1, to me, it symbolized their emotional stripping? like they are physically stripping but being in the movement of it meant something more and made it a symbol of how they are committing emotionally to one another after all this time, stripped of anything else, kind of like their first kiss. just them and their *in love noises* and nothing in the way.
All i’m saying is that this clip was so incredibly easy to watch because all of the geometry and movement does all the work for you, it makes your eyes move from one corner of the frame to the other with ease, and the lighting set the mood perfectly with such a warm colour.
and that’s all i have to say! thank you so much for reading up to here haha i am forever thankful🌻 i’m not studying media in any way shape or form i’m just very interested in it so all of this is purely from my amateur point of view but i really wanted to scribble all of my thoughts somewhere so here they are:)

Twi YouTube AU?? 👀
dlgjk ok i dont have a coherent au idea i just like the idea of like.
alec being this confident youtuber man who does all sorts of shit, like funny vlogs and maybe some sketches with his siblings or some lets plays or something, idk, he’s just a popular youtuber like, idk, fuckin markiplier or something, you know, kinda does a lot of stuff. maybe some fashion/interior design shit? idk? but like. he’s pretty popular and if there’s any list on tumblr that’s like “some queer creators you should try watching” he’s always up there because he’s pretty open about being gay. maybe at first he wasn’t in the earlier youtube days but he had a pretty emotional coming out video and everyone was like “holy shit”
meanwhile magnus is like, a quietly popular youtuber, you know? kind of a niche audience, but with decent numbers. he does a lot of things, like vlogs about being trans. like, oh my god. magnus documenting his transition? would that even be a thing? wait oh my god is this mundane au, or is this canon? because twi magnus who’s actually a warlock with a youtube channel would be hilarious but maybe not a good idea. you know what? how about a mix. he’s mortal and was born in modern times and all, he’s like the same age as alec–idk why but i’m thinking he’s like a few weeks older or a month or two older than alec and alec jokingly teases him about being old–but he like…. still has magic, because why the fuck not. actually, you know what? fuck it? it’s an au where magic is just openly a thing. not even necessarily canonverse magic, just. some people have magic. magnus does little tutorials and shit, he has a real talent for it and he’s actually really powerful but he hides that. (possible plotline: some paparazzi discover he’s like, a level ten mage, and it’s a scale from 1-10 and 8 is the most powerful u get most of the time, there’s been a few really famous 9s and there’s been one 10 ever and that was fucking merlin. you feel. because why not. idek fuck.) anyway he has little diy make your own magical charms and weaving enchantment and safe summoning circles and tips for writing magical contracts and shit like that. he’s this cute little nerd but he’s like incredibly knowledgeable and he knows how to teach it in a way that’s understandable and accessible? and he answers questions in really clear ways, and he does amazing demonstrations that look so cool people accuse him of editing but he’s just That Good. and he’s like, actually a really well-published wizard/magic scientist, he invented the fucking portal, but probably under a pseudonym because he doesn’t really want the attention. (his last name is fell in honor of his mentor. yes. although if he does multiple ones he may or may not also use loss, santiago, rollins, etc.) anyway he’s just so fucking good, he has all these videos explaining magical theory in pretty easy to understand ways (maybe going from really simple to like “i understand the basics here and am ready for the technical terms but need an overview” videos you know.
also he doesn’t just do magic videos, because i said so. also maybe some blogs, and like. because i want to. some fashion/makeup tips. and it’s weirdly endearing because it’s not something you’d expect since he doesn’t wear makeup that oftenalthough a) there are def gifsets of his full makeup looks on tumblr, and b) when he does occasionally decide to wear lipstick or eyeshadow or whatever, most of his fans are like omg yes!! u look cute! also headcanon: twi magnus wears less makeup in general but he still indulges in nail polish. mostly dark/muted colors on his fingers, but bright silly colors on his toes. NAYWAYWYA
also magnus bane is his chosen name because he wanted something cool and wizardy sounding and undeniably masculine.
also he’s so fucking sweet like look his videos are pretty popular because they’re just handy but he’s not exactly like, a super popular celebrity or anything, you know? but when he does meet fans he’s so incredibly sweet and he does selfies and he’s very appreciative of his followers? he’s so genuine?
and alec is way more popular–not that he’s not kind and appreciative of his followers. it’s just the thing is, magnus and alec are totally opposite sides of youtube. alec is friendly charismatic completely non-magical youtuber, he plays video games with his sister and like, does vlogs and reaction videos and shit you know. magnus is out here with educational tutorials and excited rambles about magical theory. (i feel like sometimes he accidentally starts doing groundbreaking research for a video and forgets to like, publish it first, and people are like wait what the fuck holy shit)
but then they fucking meet.
and a) they’re Instantly smitten. b) this will eventually result in the weirdest collab ever.
like NO ONE would expect magnus bane, tarot reader and tutorial on magic diy and shit, occasionally does makeup videos and little vlogs and talks about Issues sometimes, to collab with typical hot vlogger gamer man alec lightwood. but it happens, and somehow it’s the best fucking thing ever.
i’m not sure how their channels collide. maybe alec plays a game involving magic and magnus talks about all the ways it’s right/wrong but it ends up just being bantering and giggling and magnus may or may not end up leaning into him on the couch their sitting on and giggling as he makes a stupid joke with the character in the game and immediately everyone’s like…… we ship it
not that i support irl shipping but u know how it goes, everyones like “damn they’re cute” and they’re both openly queer so there’s that. i mean, still not cool, but you know
but really tho they keep doing collabs after that and become actual friends and both start kind of….. doing things for each other’s channel? magnus does a thing like “interview with someone who knows nothing about magic” and we just see a total mundane take on magic and honestly it’s really interesting for both of them, we have more “magnus, who’s an Old Soul and despite having a youtube channel is actually not that great with technology, raphael does all the editing, tries to play video games and kinda fails at it but he gets the hang of some of them”?? he likes puzzle games and mariokart, he does NOT like super smash bros because “THE CHARACTER NEVER DOES WHAT I WANT IT TO ALEXANDER” “you’re just jealous bc i beat ur ass” “you wanna play mariokart again, lightwood?!”
magnus does a tarot reading for alec, alec does a vlog with him just like “day in the life of alec lol :P” and there’s moments where he just comes up behind magnus like “hey what’s up” and magnus, who’s in rumpled home clothing, sees the camera and chuckles and kinda half heartedly waves it away, and the audience loses their mind at how cute he looks lkdhjgfh
they just become actual good friends, you know? it’s weird bc you wouldn’t think it would work but it really, really does
also on of alec’s fans at some point tries to make a transphobic crack at magnus during a livestream and alec goes OFF on his ass and it’s trending for the next week, the clip goes viral, it’s like “HIMBO GOES OFF ON HATERS FOR BEING TRANSPHOBIC TO HIS FRIEND/POSSIBLE LOVER?” and alec apologizes to magnus for all the attention it brought them but magnus is like “it’s okay, we can use this” and they end up using the hype to do one of those charity livestreams youtubers do and all the proceeds go to something like mermaids or the trevor project, you feel? they’re like “suck it transphobes look at all this money you got trans ppl” khjfgh
ok but eventually they do get together, not on camera, and while it’s slow at first and kind of secret (from the internet, not from friends and family) they’re also not super subtle. they know they’re not, but they’re just sort of like “it’s no one’s business, we’ll announce it when we’re ready”
and honestly tho they love each other so much
also i’ve just decided it’s not uncommon for strong magic-users, even like, level 4 or 5 and up, to have marks, so while his cat eyes are usually glamoured maybe he showed them after a q&a or in a vlog or something? and there are like. lots of gifsets of this, okay, and like, lots of thirst comments. which are like, this weird mix of slightly uncomfortable, really flattering/validating, and embarrassing (in a good and bad way). anyway, magnus has cat eyes in this au, because i fucking said so.
ANYWAY back to their relationship, they’re in love
how did they meet? maybe at a con they bumped into each other, or a totally random fan was like “y’all should do a collab” and everyone was like “what”
or maybe a mutual friend and fellow youtuber, meliorn, who is a nonbinary youtuber who fucking has a sword don’t question me, introduces them?
idk. but when they meet they hit it off instantly and flirt and end up getting coffee and they don’t date for a while (maybe mutual pining/misunderstandings like “oh he doesn’t like me like that, but it’s okay, we can still be friends :)” or something lkfgjhfgh) but eventually they end up getting together
how? no idea. let me think about it.
idk why but im thinking they’re filming at magnus’s apartment and they’re on his couch and just. late night. they’ve finished up filming but they’re still bantering and maybe playing some video game like mariokart or watching a movie together and just. magnus is leaned all the way into alec, just snuggled up and pressed close against him, alec ends up putting an arm around him, and alec cracks a joke or teases him and magnus sits up a bit to like, poke his chest or flick his nose (you know what i mean? like in an otp person a shifts, still kinda sitting in their lap, and is like [playfully hits shoulder or boops nose or something] and now they’re making eye contact and person b ends up pulling them into a soft kiss???) anyway THEY MAKE EYE CONTACT AND ALEC PULLS HIM INTO A SOFT KISS and alec almost pulls away when he realizes what he’s done but magnus makes this soft little happy noise and leans into him, kissing back, and they just end up kissing for a bit and when they break apart alec is just looking up at him with breathless wonder and magnus is looking down at him with that same soft reverence and alec blurts out something like “you’re magical” and magnus just loses it and he’s giggling and leaning against alec’s chest and alec starts laughing too and magnus can feel the vibrations in his chest and it’s just so nice and pleasant and wonderful and they may or may not end up making out
they have to talk about it in the morning when they end up falling asleep together in magnus’s bed, cuddled close, but they find, to both of their delights, they both want to date and be in a serious relationship and it’s so fucking good ok
they go to dinner and the transition from friendship to romance is a little awkward but so worth it, especially when they realize HEY IT’S BOTH YOU DONT STOP BEING FRIENDS WHEN YOU DATE. i mean like, they didn’t not know that, but it’s like, idk how to explain you know they’re kinda like “are we doing this right” and then they’re like “fuck doing it right we can keep cuddling on the couch and giggling and bantering over stupid shit and watching dumb movies and kicking each others asses in video games it doesn’t matter we just also kiss and have dinner more often and sleep together and also we may or may not be in love”
also they’re That Couple. they’re like straight to the honeymoon, they’re domestic from the first week. magnus is casually doing magic around the house (imagine: he just dyes his hair on a whim and grows it out a little bit and alec is like “i love u no matter how u style ur hair and stuff, and like, ur usual look is so fuckin cute and handsome, but also I Love This.”) but like he’s like (casually summons small ball of light to read book at night) (casually makes alec little protective charms–side note alec def makes him some of these too, but he asks magnus’s old mentor, ragnor, and two of his friends that can do magic, catarina and dot, to enchant it, since he can’t himself, and having magic woven by people who care about him will make it stronger. oh mhyhogfd) and just like. magic used to be something he mostly kept to himself (this def has something to do with his parents–his mom, who he thinks killed herself because of his eyes/magic, his birth dad who’s a powerful sorcerer–level 9, actually, and they think magnus is level 8 for a long time–who was an abusive fuckstick) and then he started doing youtube and it was a kinda show, a gift, something to share, but still not really something he just used openly in front of people he cared about (other than his close friends, since most of them do magic too anyway) but with alec it’s so easy to do that casually?? it’s so easy to just feel comfortable and safe????? yes
anyway they do eventually “come out” as boyfriends, maybe something short and sweet like just. a tweet of magnus sleeping curled up on alec’s chest and he’s like “god i love my boyfriend
they were already not subtle but now that they’re not hiding it they’re so fucking blatantly in love tbh. they do one of those boyfriend tag videos and it’s fucking adorable, at high request they do some couples games kind of videos, like the newlywed game and fuck marry kill (mostly on alec’s channel but magnus has a few, too) and it’s just HIGH QUALITY FUCKING CONTENT
also originally i was just thinking something along the lines of “in canon verse, twi alec is instagram famous/famous on social media and he gets cute tarot boyfriend and is like look at my cute boyfriend and then magnus’s small insta account mostly for his business gets a fuck ton of new followers and alec’s gets a considerable amount too” and now i’m imagining everyone from their respective audiences first thirst-following the other, then actually getting invested
but really tho they’re the internet’s hottest couple for a while it’s great
for some reason i’m picturing them doing a live tour now, with like, accessible tickets and magnus does magic live on stage and idek what else they’d do tbh but it’d be fun as fuck
anyway this au got away from me
me: i dont have any real coherent ideas
also me: [vomits a 2,500+ word ESSAY]

Sometimes when I have my racing thought... moments? Rapid fire thinking web times? I wish I could film it or record it somehow to translate it for everyone? Bc it's still too fast for me to write or type and too... webby and conceptual to JUST use words? WHY DO I BRAIN LIKE THIS. right, bc I am not neurotypical. My brain is ALWAYS a stringboard. Always a moodboard. It's like. I swear when I try to describe it people think I'm manic or high or something.
Like, I was just having some really great realizations outside and it was blowing my mind and I actually started getting panicky feeling? Or just like... excited? Elevated? Idk. My heart was freaking out and I was trying to decide if it was connected to my thought pattern, was I triggering some stuff (probably) and it was all just very fucking intense.
I had watched a video by Daniel Siegel about his concept called The Wheel of Awareness and I connected with it so much and it kind of just got all these thoughts going on my head - but bc it deals with trauma and attachment theory, maybe it was activating stuff idk but aaaaaaahhhhh I dont even care about sounding super coherent i just want to get it out into a form that exists not in the abstract.
People cant even comprehend that your mind is separate from your brain. Once you get that, it opens so much shit up.
He was talking about this concept and in a way it's like harnessing the hypnotic effect and spaciousness of dissociation but using the separation of it to link everything back together instead of getting rid of memories/sensations etc. Its like harnessing what was a survival mechanism that is now impeding on your life (and possibly scaring you) and, and working with it to help you heal yourself. Like WHAT. WHAT.
He talked about quantum physics and how ANY state of mind, no matter how damaging, feels more comforting to us than existing in uncertainty and we had to lean into uncertainty bc uncertainty is synonymous with possibility and freedom.
Also he touched on meditation and loving kindness and I was never into that as much but he quoted a colleague of his, Sharon Salzberg (sp?) "Loving Kindness is embracing the reality of interconnectedness" and I was like "oh."
Also he started talking about "mwe" !! Me + we. Me is the interior and we is the relational and combined it is mwe. But the concept is better understood once you know about the Wheel of Awareness bc that's all about integrating consciousness... lmao but IT MAKES SENSE. HE EVEN TALKED ABOUT SHADOW WORK AND LIKE HAVING A RELATIONSHIP WITH THE "DARK" PARTS OF YOURSELF. Like even thanking the negative aspects of yourself for their teachings LIKE HOLY SHIT
He even talked about merging Science with Spirituality?! This is a NEUROSCIENTIST. I'm just like wait. What is happening. That *could* be interesting and I think some people are already attempting to do it?
Help.

Hey I know that you all see me as the Grand Authority on Movie Opinions in that I am correct and can never be wrong and also my opinion on things is NEVER unsolicited because I’m literally the most important person on the internet and you CRAVE my opinions.
So I saw Shazam last night and I’m gonna talk about it under this readmore because I dunno how long it’s gonna be and I respect y’all’s dashes like that (plus if y’all don’t care abt what I thought then you can keep scrolling). There will be spoilers but I will clearly mark them.
So I’ve been thinking to myself on whether or not Shazam was the best DCEU movie. All things considered, it didn’t have too high of a bar to leap over, seeing how Wonder Woman, which was originally my favorite, had a lot of incredible moments, but was bogged down by a few of the scenes around those moments and a frankly terrible final act. And if I were to put it into numbers, (which people seem to love) I’d put Wonder Woman at about 50% INCREDIBLE 20% ehhhh and 30% GOD WHY, plus add a few bonus points for being so inspiring within its social context as a female-led superhero movie that isn’t terrible, sexualized or both. Shazam, on the other hand, doesn’t get those bonus points of social context, but has about a 60% Pretty Good and 40% ehhhh with one small bonus point for having one scene that personally hit me pretty hard that I’ll talk about later. It doesn’t reach any of the LOWS that any other film in the DCEU had, but at the same time, it didn’t really hit any of the highs either.
Something that’s worth addressing is that as someone who likes to partake in any and all drama because I’m a gremlin who loves seeing complaining, I saw plenty of DC fans complain that this movie was falling into a sort of trap set up saying “ITS ONLY BEING LIGHTHEARTED BECAUSE IT THINKS THAT IT HAS TO BE MORE LIKE MARVEL AND THATS WHY MORE PEOPLE LIKE IT” and I do want to address that because it’s a stupid argument. While Shazam is a departure from the DCEU’s more serious tone thus far, it’s not a black and white deal. DC isn’t strictly defined by being “the more serious Marvel” or vice versa. Being lighthearted did help Shazam out, not BECAUSE it was more like a Marvel movie, but because unlike movies like Batman v Superman, it didn’t try (and fail) to tackle more complex themes and down to earth schemes that made it lose focus and become an enormous mess. That being said, Shazam’s schemes and themes were much simpler, and it made for a much SMALLER mess if/when it did lose focus.
Before I dive into the spoilers, I’ll give my two cents on the film as a whole. Like I mentioned, the light-hearted tone did help out the movie, and it took itself a little less seriously with things while still balancing out some emotion in the story, and the whole theme behind it, while not PERFECTLY drawn out, still had a coherent message behind it. Visually, the movie was definitely trying to break out of the Zack Snyder mold that had been set up back with Man Of Steel, and while it still chills out in Low Saturation City a lot of the time, it IS doing a better job. Zachary Levi definitely deserves a shoutout in this movie for probably being the second best actor in the DCEU closely behind Gal Gadot in terms of casting choices, perfectly encapsulating the idea of Shazam, and pulling off the role of a Big Billy Batson, however he seems to have taken away the acting talent from half of the rest of the cast, because some of the acting in this movie is.....not great. And that’s not counting the child actors who did alright considering they’re child actors (Freddy in particular was fantastic).
The dialogue in this is pretty solid and indicative of the situation, and they really tried to lean into the idea that it’s some middle school (or early high I cant really remember) kid who just got these powers, and they do a pretty good job of that in both the dialogue and in the first half of the movie. And like I mentioned, there is a bit of Emotion in this movie that they really tried to deliver and they did a pretty good job delivering it. That being said, it’s very clear that they’re going for a kinda cheesy sort of vibe. Which makes sense, since the concept is Kid Becomes Superhero, which is ripe for picking like some kind of Cheese Tree....orchard.....thing.....and it leads to just a fun experience. It’s something that knows it shouldn’t be taken too seriously, which is why I’m writing an incredibly long analytical review of it, because I’m a curmudgeon like that.
ALRIGHT SPOILER TIME SCROLL DOWN TO THE VERY BOTTOM IF YOU DONT WANNA GET SPOILED
Lol alright so this spoiler section is gonna have a lot of negative points, so let me start with some positives.
The overall theme of this movie is sort of an idea of Found Family (which I’m an absolute sucker for), and there’s a subplot that follows this idea where Billy is looking for his mom. The movie starts showing a flashback where Billy’s mom gives him a compass saying “it’ll always help you find your way home” and then very shortly afterward, Billy gets himself seperated from his mother and had to be put into foster care and is now searching for his mother by looking everywhere he can to the point it causes him to run away multiple times. It’s not too surprising how this ends, with him finding his mother, only to find out that she just didn’t pick him up because she was 17 at the time and felt she COULDN’T take care of him. And that’s the point when he realizes “maybe my REAL family were the kids in the foster home all along”. Billy Batson sees that his birth mother’s life is tumultuous, taking on new lovers, working part time jobs, and not having time to even consider caring for Billy, moreso just hoping he turned out alright. Billy, as a sort of symbolic gesture, hands his mother the compass saying “you’ll need this more than me”. And then she replies with two words that just killed me for some reason.
“What’s this?”
I don’t know. It was a line that hit me. Kinda reflecting that sort of disconnect. Alright enough being nice, let’s talk things that are Alright but could be better.
The villain was alright. His character was pretty fun at the beginning, but after he got revenge on his father for Toxic Masculinity™ he became pretty boring, acting more like a CGI Monster Vending Machine. Of course it kinda leads into the whole Cheesy vibe they were going for, but it’s hard to make your movie seem like it’s gonna be campy and cheesy when your villain doesn’t really fall into the role once he actually fights the hero (also with the color palette). Just wish they would’ve sorta gone full Sam Raimi and just leaned into the campiness, with this movie kinda afraid to jump into the pool past its bathing suit.
And then there was the climax of the movie in the carnival, where I felt like it went a little bit downhill, not really being the best that it could be, but still pretty serviceable. The director seemed to be REALLY into using slo-mo, using it a little more than necessary to the point of being distracting, and while the Shazam concept was used in a few fun creative ways, there were some moments where it could have had more utility, or one moment in particular when he absolutely needed to change back and probably had time to say “Shazam” like twenty times over, but he didn’t, which was a LITTLE frustrating, but that’s way more nitpicky. Speaking of nitpicks, there were a few shots that were.....questionable (most notably the Santa.....moment? It seemed to be a clear funny moment, but it didn’t really land and didn’t flow either)
And also the climax has a bit of a fun twist moment that helps round out the Found Family moment where all of Billy’s adopted family also become superheroes, which is pretty sweet, but there was one SMALL nitpick that doesn’t overwhelmingly detract from anything but I found strange. Every character had a power, with one person showing the super strength, another showing super speed, another with lightning, another with flying, which were Shazam’s powers. And then Mary was there....and we don’t really get to see her powers? I did research and apparently she’s a character in the comics with all the powers of Shazam, but Mary was one of the only other characters with an arc and we don’t get to see her with any powers, which is a bit weird (we also don’t get to see her arc formally conclude. We can draw conclusions but still). So in the end it looks like Mary essentially kinda got Kairi’d. Oof.
But that’s really it for spoilers, in terms of the “bad” it’s really just that it didn’t really give it enough of an impact and while it knew what it wanted to be and isn’t disingenuous about it, it also doesn’t really commit to BEING what it wants to be.
ALRIGHT SPOILERS ARE ALL DONE YOU CAN LOOK NOW HERES MY BOTTOM LINE
Bottom line is that this movie is definitely flawed, and after consideration I don’t think I’d put it at the top of the DCEU, if only because Wonder Woman reached higher points than this one did, but that shouldn’t be a slight against Shazam at all. Heck, I would consider putting it a little bit above Captain Marvel if we’re inevitably comparing rivals.
So all in all I give it a Shazam/10. A good fun time. Not the BEST movie you’ll see this year, but you’re there to have a good time and you’ll have it.
