Chrysalis Gown

I think this first appears in Episode 14. It's in-between some scenes with the Honey-coloured gown, during the early process of transformation. This one seems to be for more formal, business occasions.

We get a well-lit view of the absolute bunfight of colours and patterns going on here. The shirt is particoloured, in red and green, both woven with gold in identical patterns, and cut and pieced together in this high, tight, stiff collar.

It bothered me that the patterns don't fit together at the neck at all well. I felt like something this magnificent should be pattern-matched more harmoniously than it is, with that seam between red and green in such a prominent place at least trying to look more symmetrical. The outer gown looks green here, with a sort of damask needlecord texture. In most shots it looks black.

The outfit returns in Episode 26, by which time we know that the consequences of the transformation have hit. We get a nice view of the structure here. The visible parts are the undershirt or tunic (actually two different ones), a very full pleated skirt, a splendidly gold-patterned wrap-around robe that's very tightly fitted to the waist and emphasised with a belt, and then this spectacular gown that might be green or black, with the giant explosions of gold embroidery. And an asymmetrical gold crown.

It's his most magnficent outfit, far more visually intimidating than the black-and-gold fighting gown he wore in Episode 9, and he wears this repeatedly when he knows his actual power is severely weakened.

The gold edges of the gown seem to be made of thousands of tiny sequins, and they're not just gold, there are hints of green to give it depth - and the gold extends beyond the pattern, like dust.

There are actually two different shirts. The red-and-green one in Episodes 14 and 27, and this black-and-gold one in Episode 26 which is a different colour of the same pattern, with no red-and-green pieces, less tightly fitted to the neck, and pieced differently. You can see almost all of the V shape and the little plant shape in the lower part of the pattern, which you can't in the red-and-green.

I think this is an error, because the next scene is supposed to be a direct continuation of the scene above, but we go back to red-and-green. You have to look hard to notice it though.

The texture of the gold on the gown is amazing. The effect in a shot like this is to make the hands look incredibly delicate and insubstantial.

He wears this outfit, with the red-and-green, for the qin duet with absolute madlad Changheng in Episode 27. And to fidget huffily and keep quiet while XLH dumps Changheng immediately after.

This is the scene where I reflected that if he was going to kill anyone, he'd be wearing the Hunting Dress. So this is what he wears when he wants to intimidate, and would probably prefer deadly violence if it were up to him, but can't or won't actually do anything but glare.

What a wonderful look for going on a date and being horribly, horribly embarrassed about it. Look at the gold on the inside of the sleeves! The sleeves of the outer gown seem to be lined with gold.

And the confession to Xunfeng.

At the end of Episode 28, he wears this to experiment with stubborn self-destruction:

And it stays with us through the whump scene, during which the crown symbolically falls off, and we get a good look at the texture. Like all his crowns and armour, it looks like something that grew on a tree, possibly as a result of insect attack. It's much prettier than the ones the fairy tribe wear. I'd like to know how this was made.

And the disaster. Where we glimpse how heavily patterned the train is. The pattern makes it look as though it belongs to the robe underneath, but it's hanging straight from the shoulders, and we saw the robe has a belt, so I don't quite understand the structure here.

I call this this Chrysalis gown because it reminds me of the splendid protective costumes that certain butterflies and moths put on while they are tearing themselves apart and remaking themselves into a totally different shape.

Which seems to be the point, so perhaps the rather eye-watering pattern bunfight and the way none of the patterns fit together at the neck, are exactly as they should be.

I hate that, even in the era of everything being on the internet and things being preserved, we can still just lose games.

I understand that sometimes it isn't financially viable to keep hosting servers for a certain game, it sucks for everyone involved (both the players and the devs working on it) but sometimes it's the only option left. However, that shouldn't just condemn the game to a grave never to be seen again! Chances are there's still fans of that game, still some small community that'd love to just keep playing, even if only for a little longer. But they're never given the chance, because the proverbial keys to the gate are held only in the hands of those making the game.

If a game's servers are to be shut down, a molding for the key should be made freely available for anyone to cast their own keys to the gate. In "less bullshit metaphor" terms: the source code for the servers should be made freely available to the public, or as much of it as possible. Like I said, I understand that sometimes it's not feasible for a dev company to keep servers up, but that doesn't mean the community wouldn't step in if given the chance.

Titanfall 2 is probably the best example I have of this. When the game was absolutely fucked by DDoS attacks on the servers, rendering the entire multiplayer unplayable, and with literally no intervention from Respawn (though they made sure to spout "Titanfall is the core of our DNA!" at least...) the community took it upon themselves to mod in community servers. The code wasn't even freely available like I was suggesting above, and some madlads did it anyway. They saw that the multiplayer was effectively murdered and unplayable, so they took it upon themselves to keep the game alive and give people a way to keep playing the game that they love. It's not a massive community, I only ever see a couple hundred online at any given time (but I don't know how accurate Northstar's player count is) but that's still more than enough to have full matches with people.

There are active efforts to revive the original Hawken and there are people trying to build up WildStar from scratch. Both games for which the services have long since shut down, but still have people who love them and would absolutely love to keep playing. I myself would absolutely love to revisit WildStar, and I've been having fun dicking around in Hawken again recently thanks to the Hawakening team. Hell, people brought back vanilla World of Warcraft before Blizzard themselves did, and that was hugely popular. The passion is very clearly there, and people are more than willing to put in the work for it.

So why not make their lives easier? Hell, you can even still just sell the original game and make it a requirement to own that to access any community servers. Not sure how that'd work for free to play titles, but I'm sure something could be done. Anything would be better than our current landscape where games just die and are condemned to a grave, left to languish, just because they can no longer phone home.

We have art from hundreds to thousands of years ago that's still preserved and admired today. Why can't we do the same for games?

when do you think theyll make hawkdemetri canon; in s4 or later (assuming it goes to 6 seasons)? i think the romantic aspects of their relationship will be empathized more clearly in s4 (hawk's jealousy of yasmime, their deep understanding and love for each other, etc) but they won't officially get together until the fifth season, leaving the last one to explore them figuring out how to go public and all that. or or i was thinking they do get together in s4 but due to the cobras threatening demetri or smth like that, they break up shortly after and don't get back together until the s5 or 6 finale. i feel like i'm being bold bc nothings set in stone but w what jon and hayden liked/rted im just ahhh!! so excited!!

IF SHE-RA WENT THROUGH WITH IT MAYBE IT ISN’T A MERE GAY KARATE PIPE DREAM

I personally see them making Hawk/Demetri an endgame pairing, so they wouldn’t officially get together until close to the end of the series--maybe even IN the series finale (which, as I believe I mentioned in one of my other posts, I would strongly prefer to be the kids’ senior prom, where a giant karate fight breaks out and everyone has to battle in tuxes and dresses because it would be HILARIOUSLY AWESOME). I think they might do it like She-Ra did Catradora, where they don’t confess their love and get together until the last (or close to the last) episode (Ah, She-Ra spoilers, I guess...but anyone who doesn’t know by now that Catra and Adora end up together has been living under a rock XD) but there’s LOTS of ship tease prior and maybe even a stolen kiss/hand-hold or two leading up to that moment. Either way, if they decide to go the Hawkmetri route, it definitely has Endgame Ship vibes to me, which means...good news is, we’re gonna win this bitch, and bad news is, I don’t think we’ll be seeing Hawkmetri proper anytime soon, especially if the show goes on for 6+ seasons D: But hey, we sure as hell have something to look forward to, if our hope isn’t totally misplaced!

I think most likely Demetri and Yasmine will date throughout Season 4, and I can see the writers using this to give Hawk a “green-eyed epiphany” of sorts, where he realizes he’s jealous of Yasmine in slightly more than a you’re-hanging-out-with-my-best-friend-more-than-me kind of way, and he’s just like “...oh fuck, am I gay? Shit shit SHIT” and cue Big Boi Angst! Probably by Season 5 Dem and Yaz will be broken up (because ain’t no one telling me a relationship founded on wedgies lasts more than one goddamn season), and that’s when we’ll start getting a lot more ship tease with Demetri and Hawk--subtle touches, a bit of hand-holding (but, of course, they’d find a way to do it in contexts where they can get away with it lol), “friendship teasing” that’s basically flirting, longing gazes when the other isn’t looking, getting a little TOO contact-happy when they spar--that kinda deal. Maybe at the end of Season 5, they’ll share a kiss, but they won’t want to address it or it’ll come with some complication. Like they’re both drunk, or maybe one kisses the other and then doesn’t want to talk about it afterwards because they’re too embarrassed, etc etc. And they’re both trying to figure out if everyone’s even going to be cool with them being gay anyways.

Season 6 I see as being more or less the same thing, with lots of ship tease and mutual pining and such, but it’s a bit more intense now and kinda complicated by the fact that they’re more directly aware of their affection for each other being romantic and they’re both trying to come to terms with the fact that they’re definitely probably not straight. They’re also slowly realizing they’re full-on in love with each other too, and they’re both trying to work up the courage to just ask the other to be with them. And then at the end of the season they finally do it, and then go to Karate Prom together!!! The madlads!!!

GRANTED, I’m REALLY trying not to get my own hopes up about all this, BUT the fact that one of the show creators liked someone’s tweet asking if Hawk and Demetri were gonna be the LGBT rep and another creator straight-up RETWEETING Hawk x Demetri fanart is...admittedly very promising!!! I’m really really hoping beyond hope that this ship happens!!! But Korrasami happened, Catradora happened...so anything is possible!!! It’s certainly easier to make a gay ship with semi-major characters canon than it used to be. I just hope the homophobic side of the Cobra Kai fanbase doesn’t mess this up for us by bitching about “PC” LGBT representation to the showrunners or something :/ Man...it’s honestly kind of alarming to see the amount of people who seem against shipping Hawk and Demetri solely because...they’re both guys??? Like people really be like “UGH these two guys are PLATONIC FRIENDS why must you make it GAY???” As if anyone in the history of EVER has said “UGH this guy and this girl are PLATONIC FRIENDS why must you make it STRAIGHT???” because...they’re already “defaulted” to be straight :/ Sigh...this is the depressing world we live in, I guess.

Fingers still crossed for Hawk x Demetri, though!!! Let’s make it canon through the Power of Karate!!!

Autistic Fox Masterpost

You heard it here, folks, CC-1010, everyone’s favorite red commander, is autistic.

Fox's Autism Subtype is Hypercompetent But At What Cost

He masks a lot and can go for hours at a time, but it's really tiring and he has to spend a lot of time alone to recover

He has a few scripted conversations that get him through most of the day, but if you deviate from the norm you will stop him in his conversational tracks

Fox has atypical empathy. He forms deep connections to a select group of people and has a very hard time letting them go or sharing them with others. With those not in his group, he generally couldn't care less.

It's not that Fox doesn't understand what other people are going through, it's that he has a hard time putting himself in their shoes and feeling what they must be going through. He has intellectual empathy, but he's a little short on emotional empathy.

On that note, he's aromantic of the sort where it's like, "why would I date you? I don't know you and you're going to bang your teeth against my teeth, bite me, put me in an uncomfortable position, and then steal my clothes and try to make small talk." His aromanticism is definitely linked to his autism and that's okay! He's valid! I'm valid! All aromantic autistics are valid!

That being said, he does like to share time and space with his Special People. You know Fox loves you if he just moves into your space and Does Not Move Out Again. Has he talked in five hours? No. He's showing affection by giving you his favorite water glass.

Fox loves routine. Even though he rarely keeps the same hours from one day to the next, he has rituals and patterns he goes through in the same way every time that make things tolerable. For example, he always takes his caf the same way. He puts his armor on in the same order every time. He has the same conversation with Thorn Every Day and it's annoying but Thorn loves him too much to tell him to stop.

One of his special interests as a kid was foxes. That's all I think I need to say about that one.

Favorite stims include pressure, the texture of one specific part of his vambrace, rocking back and forth on his feet, and whistling in that weird text-tone way (which is really scary when your name is Quinlan Vos and you're sharing a hotel room and it's the middle of the night and you didn't know Fox Just Does That sometimes).

Can hyperfixate on work if he times his caf consumption and ritual completion right, the absolute MADLAD.

Bonus headcanon: Quinlan Vos has ADHD (more on this later) and they are obsolutely the kind of ADHD/autistic pair that clashes HORRIBLY. Quinlan can never sleep at night and Fox is always tired. Quinlan can't stand other people's motor stims and Fox can't stop flapping his hands. Fox gets an anxiety tic and Quinlan's ADHD adopts it (yes that's a real thing yes it's annoying). They don't get along until one of them's nonverbal and the other's infordumping.

Quinlan appeals to those of us with chronic/lifelong mental illnesses because his whole story is about saying, “Yeah I did shitty things, yeah everything sucks right now, but I’m going to get up and I’m going to keep moving and I’m going to try to be better because that’s what life is about.” He really said goodness is something you work at and I love him for that.

Phantom Thief Hanako-kun AU Story: Chapter 6 - Back in the Early Heist Days

Flashback time!

Let's take a pause from what happened in the previous chapter and backtrack to the past~!

We'll be mainly sticking with Kou for this.

This happened before the first chapter!

-Phantom Thief Hanako released a heist notice to steal yet another jewel

-The detectives and police force were working together to strengthen security

-This thief was astonishingly outwitting them all if he never failed a heist

-Minamoto Kou, younger brother of Teru who is one of the top policemen, was just starting out his career as a new police officer

-His first mission was to join some police officers to capture Hanako

-Teru couldn't join the team during the heist since he was busy taking care of other more serious offenses

-So he was cheering Kou on for the time being, congratulating him on officially becoming part of the police force

-While Kou aimed to be like his brother, he admired a certain radish girl Yashiro Nene

-They didn't really know each other right now

-Before, Kou just came to visit the police station and departments to give lunch to Teru and make sure he's eating properly

-And it was a coincidence that Kou saw Yashiro with Detective Tsuchigomori as they came by at the same time

-Seeing Yashiro working hard on cases became part of his motivation to also work to fight crime along with Teru

-and so she was a Senpai to him in the field and a current acquaintance

-Kou was hoping he could get closer to Yashiro

-Preparing a small bouquet of pink flowers, he wanted to present them to her to make a good impression since they would be working together from now on

-On the day of the heist, he went to look for her with the flowers in hand

-When he found her with Tsuchigomori, he immediately went to hide behind a wall

-Kou peeked over and noticed that they were talking about the heist

-Would right now be a good time to give them?

-He stopped peeking to gather himself together before deciding to head over, feeling nervous

-Only to realize that the moment he let them out of his sight, they were already gone

-Darn, he missed his chance

-Well, it will be okay. He could see them again at the heist itself

-He tucked the flowers in his pockets

-The location of the heist was at a hotel owned by Akane

-Kou heard from Teru that Hanako would go steal from Akane from time to time

-He couldn't help but wonder how the gem collector was dealing with the situation

-Night time arrived and a small crowd gathered

-Not too many people knew of Hanako yet but already there were a few reporters at the scene and word had spread

-Kou was looking around when he accidentally bumped into someone

-"Hey! Watch the camera, Lame-ass Traffic safety Earring!"

-Kou: "Oh sorry--wait what?"

-Kou looked to see a pink haired boy with a scarf and camera on. He seemed to be around Kou's age

-Kou: "Do you know who you're talking to?"

-Mitsuba: "No. Should I?"

-Wow, this guy was testing his patience

-Kou: "Geez. Look at my uniform. I'm a police officer."

-Mitsuba: "Okay, police officer. Now could you let me go? I gotta take photos for the papers."

-Kou's eyes widened as he looked down at Mitsuba's camera he's holding

-Kou: "Oh! Are you a photographer?"

-Mitsuba: "Well I'm a journalist but I guess--"

-Kou: "THAT'S SO COOL! Sorry for bumping into your camera! What's your name?"

-Mitsuba was surprised at Kou's outburst. He felt a little embarassed all of a sudden.

-Mitsuba: "....Mitsuba Sousuke."

-Kou: "I'm Minamoto Kou! Nice to meet you! I can't wait to see all of your work!"

-Mitsuba: "I've done a few already but I'm still new at my job so my writing isn't that great."

-Kou: "That's okay! My reading isn't that great either!"

-Kou gave a thumbs up at that.

-Mitsuba: "Reading and writing are two different things. Also, I don't think you should be proud of that pff"

-Kou: "Hm? Is that so?"

-Mitsuba: "Anyways, I'll be going to the hotel rooftop to take pictures of the cityscape from there. Would you like to come along? There should still be time before the heist"

-Kou: "Sure! Let's go!"

-And so they are both at the rooftop chattering away as Mitsuba took photos with his camera

-Kou: "Huh so you like taking pictures of animals and landscape stuff. How about photos of people?"

-Mitsuba: "I do take them as well. The papers get way more media attention that way anyways."

-Kou: "How about taking one of me? I'll be the ultimate subject! Just call it 'Police Officer Minamoto Kou Makes His Debut'!"

-Mitsuba: "Hm....No thank you."

-Kou: "Aw come on! I want to be in the papers!"

-Kou tried to grab the camera from Mitsuba

-Mitsuba: "Hey wait a minute!"

-Kou: "Just a bit!"

-"Two gentlemen fighting on the rooftop? That's quite dangerous."

-Kou and Mitsuba looked over to find the the phantom thief Hanako standing near the edge of the roof

-When did he get there?

-Oh wait, did the heist start already?!

-They lost track of time!

-Kou: "Hanako!"

-Hanako: "I will be taking the treasure~"

-Hanako showed them the jewel in his hand.

-Kou: "Oh no you don't!"

-Kou rushed towards him and Hanako just dodged Kou's attacks, keeping the jewel out of reach

-As they got closer to the edge of the building, a sudden strong gust of wind burst forth

-Knocking the jewel out of Hanako's hand

-and the pink flowers from Kou's pocket

-Ah. The flowers. Kou completely forgot about them

-Both items were being blown away far apart from each other and off the roof

-Kou: "Oh no the flowers!!"

-That was Kou's immediate response

-Hanako ran and jumped to grab the flowers, dismissing the jewel

-He just jumped off the roof without a thought

-That madlad

-Kou's body moved and he managed to reach and grab onto Hanako's legs to prevent his fall from the roof

-Hanako was a bit heavy so Kou was having trouble lifting him up and they were right at the edge

-Mitsuba grabbed onto Kou and they both were able to lift Hanako up to safety

-Kou was shocked at Hanako's sudden move

-Kou: "Why did you just risk your life for a bunch of flowers?!"

-He couldn't understand

-Hanako also let that jewel drop!

-Hanako: "These are important to you, no?"

-Kou was rendered speechless at Hanako's words

-What kind of thief was that considerate?

-Hanako: "I'm sure you wanted to give these to someone. Also, I got my equipment on me so I wouldn't have fell to my death but thank you anyways"

-Hanako handed the flowers back to Kou and took a bow

-A racket of footsteps and shouts came from the door leading to the rooftop

-Hanako: "Welp, time's up, my fellow gentlemen. Perhaps we'll meet again~"

-Hanako escaped using his smoke bomb as a smoke screen

-Kou and Mitsuba coughed through it and once the smoke cleared, Hanako was gone

-The door slammed open to reveal a frantic Akane, panicked Yashiro, and a curious Aoi

-Akane: "AAAAAA NOOOOO we're too late!"

-Kou: "Huh? What are you talking about?"

-Yashiro: "Hanako made off with the jewel!"

-Kou: "Wait but I saw the jewel drop down the building. I apologize about--"

-Akane: "That must have been a fake! I prepared fake copies but he saw through my plan and still stole them anyways. He already stole the real one when I wasn't looking, since it was in a different location. That bastard thief!"

-Kou:

-Kou: "HAAAH?! Wait, why didn't I know about this??"

-Mitsuba: "Ahhh drama between the police and the gem collector once again. Why do you guys think he managed to get away?"

-Aoi: "So the rumors about Hanako were true! He's a clever mastermind!"

-Akane: "Ao-chan praising that thief....oh no no no no no that charmer did not just--"

-(Inside Akane's head of delusional fantasies):

-Aoi: "Hanako-sama! Please take me with you!"

-Hanako: "My dear sweet lady, I shall come for you as my next prize~"

[They fly and get farther away as Akane runs after them]

-Akane: [reaches out] "AO-CHAN! NO WAIT I LOVE YOU!"

-Aoi: "Hm 1 point~. Farewell Akane-kun! Please forget about me. I'm eloping with him now ♡"

[End of delusion]

-Akane: 'AAAAAAAA NO THAT CANNOT HAPPEN! IT ALL BACKFIRED!! I should not have brought Ao-chan here...Now I gotta watch out for not just that Teru bastard but also him aaaargh!'

-They were all staring at Akane leaning against the wall, agonizing

-Akane: [mumbling] " 'If we met under different circumstances, we could have been friends' my ass you thief, not when you're flirting with Ao-chan you son of a-"

-Kou: "Uh...is he okay? He's been leaning against that wall, mumbling weird stuff"

-Aoi: "He'll be okay ♡. Akane-kun's a big boy"

-Mitsuba nudged Kou

-Mitsuba: "Minamoto-kun, there's something you want to do, right?"

Kou: "Huh? Oh! Right!"

-Kou approached Yashiro who was zoning out, looking a bit troubled

-Yashiro: [mumbling to herself] "Aah~ I can't believe I got lost again...it's a good thing I found Akane-kun and Aoi along the way"

-Kou: "Um! Senpai!"

-Yashiro snapped out of her thoughts

-Yashiro: "Me?"

-Kou: "My name is Minamoto Kou. I'm a new police officer in the workforce so I'll be in your care! These are for you!"

-Kou handed the pink flowers over to Yashiro

-Yashiro: [smiles brightly as she received them] "Thank you! They're so pretty! I think I've seen you around. I'm Yashiro Nene. It will be a pleasure working with you!"

-Kou flustered as steam came out of his head and his heart felt like an arrow shot through it

-He may have developed a slight crush

-Kou: "Y-you're welcome! And I-I look forward to it too!"

-Kou turned around to see Mitsuba, trying to distract himself

-Kou: "Mitsuba! Did you get any good pictures?"

-Mitsuba, taking a look at his camera, smiled to himself

-He had taken a few photos of Kou without him realizing

-Mistuba: "Mhm. I sure did~"

-As Hanako walked casually through an alleyway, he heard footsteps coming closer and he stopped

-He didn't have to look back to know who it is

-This happened often enough after all

-Hanako smiled

-Hanako: "Of all the people who could actually capture me if serious, you sure don't really take me seriously."

-He turned anyways to face the person responsible for the noises

-Hanako: "Great detective Tsuchigomori."

-Tsuchigomori stood in the alleyway as Hanako figured, looking at him nonchalantly

-Hanako: "What is this, a game of catch and release?"

-Tsuchigomori: "Hmph so you really did go this way. There wouldn't be many people here after all. It's a good escape route."

-Hanako: "Why didn't you tell the police?"

-Tsuchigomori: "They need to learn for themselves. Seriously incompetent if they can't capture a single person. Besides, I realized there's more to your stealing. I haven't figured out why exactly though."

-Hanako: "Oho I see. So that's what you care about. Curious?"

-Tsuchigomori: "I'm too busy for that now. I have an apprentice to look after....who apparently got lost since she's supposed to be with me..."

-Hanako: "Oh? You have an apprentice?"

-Tsuchigomori: "I'm showing her the ropes for now. And then, she'll be taking over my place to capture you."

-Hanako: "What, great detective? Aw, I'll miss you! Things won't be the same"

-Tsuchigomori: "Oh don't worry. You'll find her to be quite a persistent one."

-Hanako: "Heh~ Interesting!"

-Hanako vanished from sight using his fancy garment and smoke bomb for the second time, saying one last thing.

-Hanako: "I'll keep that in mind."
