I'm not much of a writer so most if not all of my entries for this thing will be rather short.

Day one, First encounters:

When their eyes first meet across the cavernous expanse of the drill's interior both are fascinated. His are pools of deepest blue she could have sworn she was drowning in, hers were an electric yellow that seemed to light up his very soul. Sokkla for the ask game

As you may have gathered judging from my frequent posting about this pair I absolutely

2. I really like the dynamic these two have, they're both incredibly smart which leads to many lovely conversations between them. I also love how they can support each other emotionally. Also, they're cute together, what more reason is needed?

3. Personally I'm not a fan of sokka being the only reason she improves as a person and recovers from her breakdown. It's nice if he's part of the recovery but she should also be allowed to have help from other people and her own motivation. (I don't know if this makes sense, I had to clutch at straws to think of something that I even marginally dislike about this ship)

Horizontober 2021 Day one - Favourite machine

(I know it’s a day late but i completely forgot this event was happening)

ANYWAY, here’s what i think some characters’ favourite machines are:

Talanah - Stalker 

Talanah is actually be quite envious of Stalkers because they are arguably the perfect hunters, able to get right next to a person without them knowing. She actually once tasked an Oseram with trying to replicate the Stalker’s cloak for her. It unfortunately didn’t work.

Petra - Thunderjaw

There are two main reasons that Petra likes the Thunderjaw, the left disc launcher and the right disc launcher. Oftentimes Petra will camp within view of a Thunderjaw just in hopes to see the launchers in action and maybe, finally, figure out how they work so she can replicate them.

Erend - Ravager

Erend is of the opinion that the Ravager is the best fighter out of both man and machine. He finds it perfectly balances large size and devastating power at both close and long ranges. One day he asked Aloy to override one so he could ride it into battle just like he’d dreamed of since he was a kid back in the claim.

Nil - Corruptor

The Corruptor is deadly. That’s why Nil likes it. He finds a beauty in how intricately it moves and hopes to come across one whenever he goes wandering so he can face it and watch in awe as it weaves past his attacks; he hopes that if he is to die at a machine’s hand it would be a Corruptor’s doing.

Aloy - Glinthawk

Aloy deeply admires how free the Glinthawks are, being able to fly wherever they want whenever they want; she wishes she could do the same sometimes. One thing she always wishes is that she understood other machines as well as the Glinthawk does (i mean, they’d have to if they’re able to break them down effectively) and sees it’s knowledge as one of the final remnants of APOLLO.

the people have spoken! this is all basically my initial impressions of the show, after rewatching i could add more but wanted to leave it like this.

before i started atla all i knew was that zuko had the redemption arc to end all redemption arcs, the bald kid was the avatar, there were two blue siblings, a boy and a girl, and people could bend water, earth, fire, and air and i'm pretty sure i only knew that because of the m night shyamalan's movie.

shortly before i started the show i saw a gifset of aang pushing katara out of the way of falling rocks in cave of two lovers and zuko doing the same in southern raiders. underneath that someone reblogged another person's tags talking about the differences between how aang vs zuko got katara out of danger. it's been a while since i saw this post (and if anyone knows which one i'm talking about please send me a link!) but i remember it saying that aang's way was more military. getting katara out of the way as fast as possible even if it meant bumps and bruises, while zuko wanted to get her out of the way without getting hurt at all. from that i believed that zutara would be endgame since i think zuko's way is more romantic.

once i started the show i found nothing to convince me otherwise. i truly thought that aang's crush would go away as the show went on and as the characters grew.

the whole "you will marry a powerful bender" thing in the fortune teller seemed like such a fake out. obviously the avatar is a powerful bender and the fact that katara had that pointed out to her at the end of the episode with sokka practically quoting aunt wu when he said "sometime's i forget what a powerful bender that kid is" just screamed that aunt wu meant someone else.

after aang see's toph in the swamp i thought that she would be aang's endgame love interest because their visions were 'of people we've lost, people we loved'. aang could have seen literally anyone. when the visions are explained they're told the swamp shows them people they've loved and lost to remind them that they're not really gone. aang could've seen gyatso or anyone else that he knew from the southern air temple. hell he could've seen anyone of his past lives' past loves instead he see's someone he will meet since "time is an illusion". you could argue that that was because we need a way to find toph after earth rumble 6 but word about the avatar being in town could've led the bei fong's to invite the gaang over for political reasons or something, or aang could've just been gliding all over and finds her in the garden. but no. they chose her to be the person he loves in his swamp vision. and i'm not trying to say you can't love your friends! or that platonic love is any less! it just felt like a set up to more than earth bending teacher turned friend.

i don't think i have any more specific thoughts on the rest of the show other than being hopeful in crossroads of destiny that that would be zuko's turn to good. and in during the dance scene in the headband i did think that maybe this was the beginning of katara's reciprocation but that interest was immediately dropped. maiko also seemed like a temporary 'i'm back in the fire nation and she liked me when we were little so this seems safe/the thing to do' type thing. i also freaked out about the last agni kai because holy shit? he took lightning for her and she did everything she could to save him. unfortunately after that i had a sinking feeling they wouldn't get together and right before aang and katara kissed i was going 'no no no' and hoping for a platonic ending. i was so relieved when they hugged only to be disappointed a few seconds later.

honorable mention: jun in bato of the water tribe and sozin's comet calling katara zuko's girlfriend
