Everyone’s tags and additions to this post are so fun and interesting. When I originally made the Ally Cassandra post it was mostly supposed to be a joke, didn’t know it would resonate with others as well.
It got me thinking more than I normally do about Modern AUs. I love them and think they’re tons of fun, but of course the Arcane-Verse is very, very different from our own.
I was thinking about just making a post about embedding modern cultures and problems into Arcane fanfiction.
It’s been done well many, MANY times and I’ve just been wondering how others (readers and writers) navigate it.
Mostly because I’ve been thinking of Ekko in different protective styles, Mel in waist beads and enjoying native African art styles, how irl Vi wouldn’t even have to come out because look at her (this mentality coming from a modern queer perspective) and even assigning specific nationalities and ethnicities to characters of colour (ie. Caitlyn being Japanese [even though I’m pretty sure that’s confirmed (?) but Japan doesn’t exist on Runeterra so she’s half Ionian (???)], Mel and Ekko being Black Americans, Vi being spicy white, etc. etc.)
I don’t know, I just find it very interesting and even fun. It’s nice to see even more specific representation and watching people kind of claim characters they relate to and look like because everyone deserves media they can see themselves in.
Some fics even add in a hint of the type of discrimination we see today in our own lives. Some fics more than others. Again, I definitely think it has been and will continue to be done well, but how far can you go until it’s just completely taking away from the original canon or even a little triggering?
For real though, Cassandra was definitely not homophobic. The writers stated so many times that homophobia, transphobia and racism don’t exist in the world of arcane
So yeah I’m with you on being tired of people painting her like a homophobe. I know people deal with all this IRL and are probably projecting. Try to ignore those narratives as it’s nice to have a fictional world remove all those forms of hate and oppression.
Cait didn’t even have to come out. I’m sure her parents just walked in on her with a girl one day and that was that.
It’s not necessarily something I hate but it’s just not preferred ? Like you’ll never catch me really bad mouthing fanfic authors unless they’ve done some real awful things because they hold the world up on their own
I definitely get the appeal of writing homophobia into some kind of modern AU and I’ve thought about doing it myself because of the advice “write what you know,” but it’s just kind of exhausting going into a form of escapism and watching people just add homophobia and bigotry into a verse where it doesn’t exist.
The preservation of my escapism is literally no one’s responsibility and I am in no place to tell people what and what not to write and I’ve read, enjoyed and I think I’m still reading many a fic where Cassie is homophobic and made out to be this big bad villain and I’ve just realized that it’s too much for me personally sometimes? I just want my girls to be happy, you know what I mean 😭✋🏾⁉️
I just dont totally enjoy fics where parents are homophobic because real life is for real life and fiction is for fun ? IDK
AND YEAH, NO ONE HAD TO COME OUT IN THE ARCANE UNIVERSE, EVERYONE IS A LITTLE GAY IF ANYTHING. Can’t tell me Cass hasn’t kissed a couple of girls, come on now 🤧
Anyway, authors, keep doing what you’re doing, and readers, keep reading what you’re reading <333
P.S. these tags KILLED ME on the og post this ask if referring to

I want to amend the mini-review I posted of The Atlas Six a couple of weeks ago, because it actually turned out not to be that bad. It was better than I was expecting for a “BookTok sensation.”
Mild spoilers ahead:
The Good Olivie Blake’s writing style is mature compared to most recent YA, although she still uses some AO3 neologisms like “his mouth quirked up into a smile” (tell me you read fanfic without telling me you read fanfic). Her take on magic is intriguingly based on science rather than mysticism or arcane spellwork, so that’s refreshing. And there is a big twist at the end that is a genuine surprise.
The Dark Academic I didn’t really get the dark academic feels, though I can see why people would. To me, this feels more like...dark capitalism? The Alexandria Society is less of a school than a secretive corporation that holds (and does business in) the human race’s entire storehouse of magical knowledge. Now that I think about it, “Dark Capitalism” could totally be an internet aesthetic.
The Not-So-Good The sciencey approach leads to long conversations about things like...the molecular structure of time travel and the physical impact of telepathy. These really slow the book down. I swear, things didn’t start to pick up until around page 250. In a 373-page book.
The characters...hmmm. I want to say they’re not likable, but that’s not really the issue. I don’t need characters to be likable, but I do want them to be enjoyable, which is not the same thing. Personally, I didn’t really enjoy these characters. Two of them (Nico and Reina) could have disappeared from the book and you wouldn’t have noticed. Blake must have liked Parisa best, because she gave her the most attention. But Parisa’s bottomless superiority complex quickly became irritating, and there’s a sex scene between her and two other characters that felt uncomfortably non-consensual to me (Parisa’s a telepath who can not just read minds but alter people’s thoughts, and she takes credit for getting these two characters to have sex---though whether she’s serious, or it’s just her usual self-importance is hard to tell).
The end of the book reveals an apocalyptic conspiracy that will involve all of “the Atlas six” initiates, but bizarrely, one of the major characters (Dalton Ellery) disappears from the story at that point. It’s as if Blake had forgotten about him, or hadn’t yet figured out what role he would play in these machinations. And that’s a real shame because of all the characters, I liked Dalton best.
There’s way too much sly teasing about what’s really going on, and who’s using who. This makes for frustrating reading. It’s clear that Blake wrote this book as the first in a series, so the whole novel is full of hints and suggestions and questions that are just left to dangle until, presumably, a future installment.
The Editing, BookTok, Publishing etc. Overall, this book would have benefited from some serious, dedicated editing, but that’s an issue I have with so many books published within the last few years. I don’t think anyone is editing books the way they used to be edited.
Even with Donna Tartt’s genius, I doubt that The Secret History would be as impeccable as it is without the guidance of a skilled editor. I think this is a role that is becoming obsolete or at least, has changed a lot from what it used to be. A book like The Atlas Six was a success before Tor Books even picked it up...so why bother editing something that was already a proven bestseller? And if the book goes to press with glaring, goofy mistakes in it (like a broken “lamp” that becomes a broken “vase” on the next page, and then is a “lamp” again three paragraphs later)...well, who cares? That didn’t stop the book from going viral on BookTok, did it?
I actually looked up the editor of TA6 and found out that she, Molly McGhee,  made some news of her own recently. She quit her job at Tor Books after the book was released and posted a bitter resignation letter on Twitter.
I have mixed feelings about this. People who work in publishing are woefully underpaid at almost all levels except the very highest, and the process for moving up in the ranks is rigid and outdated. Undoubtedly, this is because publishing is “women’s work,” and has been for probably the last 40 years or so. No joke, if you walk into a publishing company in New York City, you’ll think you’re in a sorority house. You’ll have to go up to the executive floor to find a man behind a desk. So kudos to McGhee for calling publishers out on the shabby treatment of their workforce.
However, while McGhee never calls out sexism specifically (a strange omission, IMO), she does complain at length about assistant editors like herself having to do administrative work. While I’m sure that assistant editors are burdened with too many of these duties, I think McGhee’s complaint that the executives in her company were “technologically illiterate” is just her taking a spiteful jab at her former bosses. The truth is, those executives think they’re above tasks like organizing inboxes or managing databases...and that’s nothing new. Before the digital era, high-ranking people didn’t do their own filing, and it wasn’t because they didn’t know the alphabet. This insistence that anyone born before 1985 has incurable digital dementia is snotty, ageist, and false. McGhee weakens her argument by choosing to focus on this. If she ever becomes an executive anything, I’m sure she’ll gladly leave administrative tasks to an assistant as well.
But the real issue I take with McGhee’s showy resignation is that The Atlas Six was her first acquisition...and because it’s a hit, she thought she deserved a promotion for it. But how much credit can she really take for The Atlas Six? It was a hit before McGhee ever touched it. It was a sensation two whole years ago. And, from reviews I’ve read on Goodreads, there was little difference between Blake’s self-published, unedited version and the Tor version that McGhee edited.
I wonder what effect this kind of performative quitting has. Do you think publishers will start paying assistant editors better, giving them fewer administrative tasks, and promoting them more quickly? Or will publishers decide they don’t really need assistant editors anyway? After all, the way publishing is now, they can just recruit a bunch of freelancers to monitor BookTok, and maybe Wattpad, find out what’s going viral, then buy it, print it, done.
It used to take time and labor to get a book from manuscript to hardcover, to hone it into a story that was at least a damn good read, and possibly even a masterpiece. Editors worked painstakingly alongside authors to do this. But I don’t think that happens anymore, and maybe that’s why so much fiction now feels so...unfinished. Unfocused, unsatisfying and sometimes, just peppered with mistakes. As in, actual typos. The publisher’s goal with something like The Atlas Six was not to polish it into a gem, but to get it out the door while it still had its BookTok buzz. And it obviously doesn’t matter because these books are making money, probably more money than some of the most brilliant authors ever earned. So Molly McGhee might have a point to make about the unrewarded value that editors bring to the book business, but there’s a good chance she’s already too late. In a landscape of BookTok and self-published viral sensations, the book business may be realizing it doesn’t need editors at all.

Questions Often Left Unanswered: Mun Edition [Accepting]
Tumblr media
1. Are there any characters in your fandom or faceclaims you refuse to RP with? Who and why?
Tumblr media
// My rules has a section showing the fandoms/communities I don’t want to interact or rp with! Here’s a reminder to it:
MLP, Homestuck, Undertale, Fnaf, League of Legends (Arcane won’t get a pass), Genshin Impact, Fnf, Disney and MCU (I’m debating on whether or not, I’ll give the comics a pass tho...)
Star wars stuff in specific.  I’m intimidated and iffy about Legends characters, simply because I’m still not 100% knowledgeable about it (I’m learning more and more about it). Kotor/jedi fallen order/any of the SW games... I’m also not well versed in them, so I’ll also be hesitant to interact with them. With all of these things said, here are my straight ‘no’s. Unless I’m well acquaintanced with the mun behind the muse, I’ll not write with any of the sequels era characters (As stated in my muses directory. Although I’ve watched the trilogy, I’m not entirely familiar with it, which contributes to my overall lack of interest in interacting with it). Then there are the Starcruiser hotel, and the theme park attractions which are at the very bottom of everything thus getting the biggest no (I don’t think I have to talk about how the vibes between those things, don’t fall in line with anything else within the SW universe, right? Nah man, y’all can keep and try to excuse the +6k dollar LARP mess [which I heard that Disney is looking to double the prices so Y I K E S])
And as I’m writing this: I also won’t RP with Andor muses, until the serie is over.
2. Are there any plot tropes you are sick of/refuse to RP? If so, what are they and why?
Tumblr media
// I’m not a fan of those fix-it AUs. No matter what it may be about. ‘No order 66 palpie chokes on a croissant & the galaxy is all fine & dandy uwu AU’, ‘clones are just one big family & jango is their dad uwu AU’. I understand the desire for those types of plots for fanarts and fanfics, but when it comes RP? Killing off the tragedy in SW is the equivalent of, burning down SW’s very essence. Also I’ve noticed that with these plots, they always end up watering down so many things about SW. The name of the series is literally Star wars, the war IS meant to be ugly, I don’t think anyone should sugarcoat that.
6. Is there a character that the rest of your fandom adores that you just don’t like/are indifferent to? Who is the character and why?
Tumblr media
// I think that the Kenobi series hype is long dead by now, SO I can finally say this, without sb coming out of the woodworks to crucify me for it. Reva was mediocre at best (the actress put on her best, it is just that the script she was handed to was bad. The odds were against her.). She most certainly wasn’t the worst thing that came out of the show, see young Leia (wtf did they do to thIS KID?) and Tala (who? I literally forgot about her 5 secs after her death).
I just wished that Lucas arts hadn’t wasted their time with fan-baiting, hate-baiting its audience, all while using Ingram as a meat-shield for every single criticism towards the show. And instead taken their time to properly iron out this character. BC as she currently stands? It’s bad... That pitiful attempt at a redemption? Yeah, it could use some MUCH needed work, instead of just slapping it on her then calling it a day. But I’ll take what we got, over whatever the drafted one had in it (Cody’s legacy is safe... For now...).
12. What’s your biggest pet peeve when it comes to the fandom you RP in?
Tumblr media
// What’s up with all the weird anons me and many of my mutuals have been getting? I’ve never had to deal with anything like it, in all of my RPing years. What’s up with people not knowing how to use the block function, and blacklisting feature?
I’ve received multiple anons, whining about the fact I write cloneshipping. Or even having meltdowns over some of my HCs. I want to believe this is the result of how the search function on tumblr now operates, so it searches with anything that contains the searched words, instead of the tags. So, I’m chalking it up to being just strangers, finding my blog unaware of what this blog is about. But at the same time, there is a part of me that thinks I’ve received hate from actual RPers over that. BC god forbid, blocking sb and moving on with their day, is just too simple.
There is never a bad reason to not block someone. Even if it may sound silly in your mind, just block/filter out whatever is bugging you. It’s a whole lot better than hate-reading, or exposing yourself to shit you know that causes you discomfort.

Dicing characters up
So I’ve recently gotten back into the swing of developing The Wild Hunt, in between puking and other such happy fun times, and of course I ran into the issue of needing to generate original capes. I moaned, I groaned, I made minor notes about general direction, resigning myself to further massive delays in the writing process because making a properly Worm-like power is actually pretty hard-
-and then I abruptly remembered that I actually have an established process for how to do so, and just haven’t used it in a couple of years for various reasons. And lo, this piece of the writing is coming along much faster and more fun.
Then it occurred to me that I could share this process, and explain the reasoning behind it. Maybe others will appreciate it.
Which brings us to now.
First step: write up all twelve canon Worm power ratings. Or I suppose you could use a different system, such as my own stab at making the rating system function, but the canon set is perfectly fine for this purpose. (I’d only personally turn to my own system if I noticed I’d completely failed to make any Othala-esque support capes in a long streak, and felt that was a problem that needed correcting) The order doesn’t matter, you can do whatever in this regard, just make sure you write up the list you’re using first.
Step 1.5: Decide whether you want rolling high to be ‘good’, or rolling low to be ‘good’. I’ll explain this in a minute, but it’s important you do this before you actually roll any dice. Which direction you choose is irrelevant’ I historically went with low=good, and this last session went with high=good, for whatever arcane reasons my brain changes its mind about such things, and it all works out the same so long as you’re consistent within a given session.
Step 1.75: If you’re making multiple characters together, decide ahead of time which set of rolls will ultimately go to which character. ie ‘this is Parahuman 1, so they get Dice Roll Set 1′. Or ‘this is Angry Parahuman, and they get Dice Roll Set 2′. Don’t do all your dice rolling and then assign batches to whoever you prefer. I’ll explain this more later.
Second step: roll an appropriate number of dice. I personally use this site, but it’s not terribly important. My personal model is to roll 12 100-sided dice; this gives a level of granularity and randomness I find useful.
Third step: Plug the die rolls into your list in the order you made each. Your first die roll goes into whatever power rating you placed first in the order, your second die roll goes into whatever rating was second, and so on. No cheating; I’ll come back to this in a minute.
Fourth step: It’s time to engage in deduction about the character you’ve kind-of-created just now. Treat your die rolls as a combination of two things; an indication of how the PRT would rate them, if they know everything reasonably obvious about their power, but also more importantly as an indication of how relatively dominant each element is in their power.
This is the part where actual creativity is involved, and I’m not going to tell you there’s any ‘right’ way of doing things in this regard, beyond that I’ve been emphasizing ‘don’t cheat’ by shuffling rolls about in any capacity, or allowing yourself to assign rolls after they’re made. The reason I’ve been emphasizing ‘don’t cheat’ is that you’re undermining your own creativity if you ‘cheat’; if you have an Angry Cape in your list of tentative characters, and you find yourself prone to doing stuff like giving Angry Capes Blaster powers that are all variations on ‘elemental blasts’, ‘cheating’ means you’re liable to fall right back into that pattern (Or any number of other patterns you’re trying to avoid falling into) instead of forcing yourself to think outside the box. At which point this whole complicated shebang is a waste of your time, honestly.
Now that’s all a bit abstract, so let’s provide an example! Just one cape, even though I really use this system primarily for producing batches of capes, because this is already going to be long and I don’t have infinite time.
Before I start, I’ll arbitrary say this example cape is meant to be a low-tier villain cape in Brockton Bay who Coil recently hired in an imaginary fanfic due to butterfly shenanigans. I’ll also arbitrarily say I vaguely want this cape to think Coil is a great guy, so I have some starting point of a personality beyond the range of possibilities implied by being a Coil hire.
So first I’ll write up the list of ratings;
Brute:
Blaster:
Breaker:
Trump:
Striker:
Stranger:
Changer:
Master:
Mover:
Shaker:
Thinker:
Tinker:
I wrote that off the cuff off memory, for reference.
Before rolling my dice, I’m just arbitrarily saying high is good.
Then I roll my dice...
90 - 45 - 97 - 56 - 8 - 48 - 20 - 94 - 23 - 88 - 46 - 74
... and what I’d normally do is just enter those in order in the above list, but for the purposes of this example I’ll instead enter them into a new copy of the list right after this sentence.
Brute: 90
Blaster: 45
Breaker: 97
Trump: 56
Striker: 8
Stranger: 48
Changer: 20
Master: 94
Mover: 23
Shaker: 88
Thinker: 46
Tinker: 74
So first I note the extremes: whatever this cape can do, they’re not a Striker. And if there’s any Mover or Changer elements, they’re really low-key, the sort of thing that would get a PRT threat rating of 1 if they made it into documentation at all.
At the other extreme, Breaker is the highest number, followed closely by Master, Brute, and Shaker, in that order. That implies Breaker is the foundation of this cape’s power (In the framework of ‘Breaker states’, to be specific; if you take a different interpretation of Breaker, you’d interpret this differently), with them either having all their states include Brute/Master/Shaker elements, or that their most powerful/useful states are the ones that merit those ratings.
Tinker is also pretty high up, but not the highest up. If it were the highest rating, I’d probably interpret the cape as a Tinker whose devices all come back to breaker effects in some capacity. Since it’s the lowest of the relatively high ratings, I instead infer the Tinkering is somehow an outgrowth of the Breaker rating; maybe they have a state that can copy tinkertech?
That brings us to the middling ratings of Blaster, Stranger, Trump, and Thinker. These are all high enough I’m not willing to write them off as non-existent qualities, but they’re low enough relative to the main high numbers that they’re clearly not of primary importance, either being not distinct powers at all but a side effect of the primary aspects of their power, or being distinct powers that are weak or inflexible such that the cape doesn’t make much use of them. In this case, the high Brute rating suggests the Blaster rating may simply be an acknowledgement that super-strength is a great tool for turning anything in your environment into an impromptu projectile.
Taken altogether, what comes to mind is that Coil Patsy here has a Breaker state they can turn on that lets them suborn people in an area around them while also making them fairly resistant to harm. At this point I interpret the low Mover number not as, for example, ‘Mover 1′, which would be an indication of mildly superhuman speed or super-jumping or something, but instead as an indication that the Breaker state involves a loss of mobility, which in conjunction with the high Brute rating suggests their Breaker state is something solid and slow, such as turning into solid iron. Said aura of control makes it so everyone in their control is capable of low-tier Tinkering, with the overall versatility and quality of the tinkertech rising the more people in their control are working together. The Trump rating is now obvious; actual Tinkers can be tapped for their full Tinker ability, spontaneously providing this cape brand-new options if they get a Tinker under their control. The Blaster rating is now interpreted as an indication they have a propensity for producing tinkertech rifles and other ranged weaponry, which their thralls use reasonably competently, but which are not stupendously threatening. The Thinker rating is interpreted as an indication they tap the senses of their thralls. The Stranger rating seems to require inventing a new power or major Tinkertech specialty in the context of how canon Worm uses the Stranger rating, but here I lean on the advantages ambiguity provides and choose, in this case, to interpret the Stranger rating as indicating that any signs of control are subtle enough Coil Patsy can have eyes on the inside without people noticing if stringent Master/Stranger protocols aren’t in effect.
By blind coincidence, this cape sounds like a really plausible explanation for where canon Coil got his tinkertech underslung lasers. (That never actually got used...) So now I know that in my imaginary fanfic, this cape is supposed to exist in canon and in canon was hired to make some underslung lasers, but the fanfic’s butterflies led to Coil working to get this cape in his pocket in a more substantial way. I also now know that my original arbitrary decision to make him a fan of Coil indicates Coil used the carrot, rather than the stick, as part of the recruitment process; where Tattletale was recruited with a gun to her head, this cape was recruited by Coil solving his problems and throwing wads of cash at him to do the same basic kind of thing he wants to do anyway.
Now, this sounds like a pretty powerful power, which might seem inconsistent with my earlier arbitrary assertion that Coil Patsy is a low-tier villain, but I can take the interpretation that, yes, it is a strong power, but the cape has been lying low in part because creating a long-term operation is insanely risky. At this step I assume he suffers Thinker headaches if he runs his Breaker state for too long, and that his thralls all remember what happened just fine and are liable to hate his guts and try to kill him once he ends the state, in the scenario where he uses his power to gangpress random citizens; he’s been low-tier because it’s dangerous for him to try to freely abuse his power...
... but for this imaginary fanfic, he’s probably about to turn into a big threat as Coil hires a bunch of people to act as his intermittent Tinker thralls.
From there I do more standard character creation stuff of deciding on his basic personality (And gender, for that matter, though apparently at some point I decided he was male without thinking about it in this particular case), assigning a name and possibly cape name to him, and then put a pin on it and am now free to go forward with writing scenes with this character.
And there you go; a methodology for pushing yourself to come up with weird, creative power sets.

Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus/Trials of Apollo (+ TV show + musical - movies):
We all call the author “uncle Rick,” which just makes it feel like a big family. We all mutually hate the movies, which I fall back on when my one friend says they’re good (I freaking-). There’s this one piece of crap character we all cheered when he died and are vengeful because he stabbed Percy’s stuffed animal.
This applies to Apollo kids because I consider myself one: healing manifests in all of us in one way or another. Because I don’t look or act like a stereotypical Apollo kid, I was iffy on this, but then I got in my brain that healing doesn’t just have to be physical.
Zoe Nightshade. Truth be told, I wasn’t overly attached to her because she was here for one book, but the sheer amount of heartbreaking fanarts I’ve seen and little fanfics of Calypso learning her sister died just before she got off of her island makes me just… die.
I do think it’s poetic how Leo (the seventh wheel) found love in someone who had been rejected by the greatest heroes of mythology. I don’t personally ship it because I wanted Leo’s arc to end with him coming back to CHB single and seeing how everyone truly cared for him even if it wasn’t romantically.
I will be honest, I don’t read fanfiction a ton, but I always like how Sally is an absolute angel in every single one. We Stan Sally Jackson.
This doesn’t just apply to PJO but the diversity and changes in the characters. I love Hispanic Percy and obviously with the show black Annabeth, but also little things like Apollo with brown hair and “stay hot!” Shades, and Nico with crutches.
Gosh, probably exploring the aspects of demigods that weren’t explored in the books. I don’t mean philosophical stuff, I mean a daughter of Poseidon that can cause earthquakes instead of control water, a child of Apollo who causes disease and attracts crows instead of healing. Thats always fun.
The Trials of Apollo series. Yup, all of it. I’ve seen so many people shun the series because they’re afraid of a certain character dying, or because it’s about Apollo himself. They’re missing out on the best character arc I’ve ever read because they’re scared.
Jason x Brick. True love. Piper can go to the sidelines.
@uni-amaly And my other nerd friends who aren’t on Tumblr.
HAH! So my friend made a demigod-writing template that was just for making little personas and now I’ve written 40 characters and the doc is over 100 pages long with plans for stories, oneshots, an overarching plot of overthrowing Olympus, and more.
Okay, thank you to EVERYBODY who watched the show and gave their opinion with LOGICAL REASONINGS. I’ve seen paragraphs of all different point of views on them and I have to say, while the fandom may be divided, I’m thrilled to see it instead of senseless yelling. The negative and positive views each have valid points and I love them.
Ooh… maybe Percy’s birthday? I’m honestly just pumped for summer itself. With the show… the show dates, I guess. Always nice to see the Empire State Building blue for our boy, though!
Percabeth. Yeah, I could’ve said Solangelo but it’s tainted by TSATS now. Legendary slow burn, honestly perfect. I adore it.
Apollo/Lester. My favorite overall is Nico but Apollo always brings a smile to my face. Whether imagining him singing or chilling in his chariot and waving at his kids, he’s a sunny guy who loves his ukuleles.
Nico went through Tartarus alone and survived. Yeah, I understand they didn’t show it but he DID IT. There was no Percy and Annabeth, there was one, 14-15 year old kid who went through the definition of psychotic insanity and made it through as a good person.
Blue food!
#Percyjackonandtheolympians or whatever the typo one was.
PJO/HOO/TOA, Heathers: the musical, Arcane, and Gravity Falls (plenty more but off the top of my head).
Gosh. I GUESS How to train your dragon but that was my childhood obsession. My real first nerd one was Star Wars. Very basic, I know.
Ninjago. Listen, the fanarts are top tier, alright? I like the fandom and the show too, even if I’m a bit farther away from it now. I have a lot to thank it for.
Jeez. Can’t say their name but I guess @uni-amaly I mean, they half forced me to read HOO at Godspeed to get to TOA so thanks… I guess.
Jeez, all the Minecraft SMPs, I suppose. Especially pirates.
back to PJO etc I guess: I mean, tons of writing, so many awesome convos with friends, happiness (literally pure happiness), an interest in mythology, gift ideas for friends, and of course feeling connected with the fandom because of the recent hype. Everything else I don’t have the words for too.
You don’t have to have an opinion! You can throw up your hands and say, “F it, we ball” and just love it without thinking analytically. And if you do have opinions, you can say them and people can be jerks and agree and debate politely and ignore you, but if that’s your opinion, then it’s yours. Just be nice and have common sense.

1. There’s been a few posts and headcanons i’m fond of from this year. Specifically, though, I think I really like my Sand ficlet for my Hermitverse AU. I never went anywhere with it, but I liked how it came out.
2. No one thing and don’t think one actually comes to mind. Overall, though, I feel my fandom interactions have been more direct this year than I managed last year.
3. Can’t say I specifically challenged myself, but toward the end of the year I've been trying to better my writing ethic. Limited success so far, but “just do it” has and will hopefully continue to be the order of the day.
4. Hermitverse AU, see above. It was a fun idea had I gotten over my historic dysfunction with actually following ideas through properly. I didn’t, though, and now Hermitcraft is in a place where the AU doesn’t really work in the context it was set up in. Still might try a reboot depending on how Season 9 pans out, though.
5. Arcane. By all means steering clear of League itself, but that show gripped me and my friend group and continues to do so. It hasn’t been massively up front in my feeds, but that show is my jam and I love reading stuff from the show-specific fandom.
6. My Snapshots ficlet, for @hermitcraftheadcanons Scattered AU. With how very, very early that was, I forgot that was even this year, but I do like it a lot.
7. Might have to forgo this one. Can’t think of an overall project I finished this year, or at least not one that’s been published here on Tumblr. If I stretch it, I made a bunch of logos for a friend’s fanfic series over on Sufficient Velocity, but i’ve never really touched on that here.
8. Again, the Scattered AU. Shade put a lot of work into that - as did everyone else - and you should all be proud. :D
9. Got a job, at last. No, really. Not a Tumblr thing but after a long time job hunting I finally have my first job after uni. Its changed a lot about how I structure my life, probably for the better in the long term. :)
10. Improve my work ethic and get more of my ideas out there, rather than doing lots of planning that never gets used. Do those Hermitcraft AUs! Write that Stargate idea! Start that Evangelion fanfic! Put pen to paper with those original stories and actually commit! Any of these would be a good step. :)
I’m a little tipsy from New Years’ drinks, now, though, so i’ll leave it there.
HNY, guys! :D
