I can scream for a while about this, but I'll try to keep this under a novel's length lol

MAJOR SPOILERS ABOUT GILBERT'S MAIN ROUTE / CHEVALIER'S SEQUEL ROUTE BELOW:

Alright, you asked about Gil and Cheva things, so here it goes.

There is so much Gilbert in his sequel. So much that it starts to feel like Comte's route when it becomes the Vlad show (if you read IkeVamp). And I guess, like Comte and Vlad, they can't shake that friendship that was there since their youth.

In Cheva's sequel, Cheva and Emma go to Obsidian (along with Leon, Yves, Cyran and Lucien - wow that's a mouthful) because of...well, things that happen in the prequel that are barely even important here. Gilbert spends a bit of time with Emma - for obvious reasons, if you read his route, and Chevalier spends some time digging around Obsidian Castle.

One thing that will be nice for players who don't read Cheva's events is they will see his emotional development that was lacking in his route. You will see a Chevalier who is free to be affectionate with Emma in front of his brothers (to which Yves and Leon were thoroughly disturbed). His love for Emma is on full display....and guess who is witnessing all of this.

When the routes split, they deal with the a similar conflict, but one puts the problem solving on Emma, the other puts it on Chevalier. And it's interesting to see how they both handle it - which is they handle it the same way. Chevalier puts all his trust and faith in Emma - and this love is something Gilbert ends up being jealous of.

My favorite saddest part of Chevalier's sequel comes towards the end of his Dramatic Route. Chevalier is put in a terrible, awful, horrible situation, one where we truly see how mad Gilbert is - did you think you saw his madness already? Guess what, you didn't. Anyway, after all the horrible things Gilbert has done to Chevalier (which Leon saved him from!) Chevalier asks Emma and Leon to leave the room.

Gilbert and Chevalier have a heart to heart chat, best that these two can. Gilbert admits that he has known about Emma for some time now (cue shocked Chevalier). He tells him he is in love with her and he had wanted to save her from being tainted by royalty. They are only engaged, and there was still hope for her. He then adds that despite all of Gilbert's obstacles, their love for one another won out and neither betrayed the other. Can these two hug it out now?

Chevalier also had figured out Gilbert is sick and dying. He tells him to get himself better and that Obsidian needs him. Obsidian is nothing without him. This is after Gilbert tried to kill him and even shot him with his gun. That just shows the deep (and weird and twisted) bond these two share. And I think it also shows immense emotional growth for Chevalier.

A faint exhale mingled with the breath, and my breathing became shallow.

Gilbert: "You're still reeling from yesterday, aren't you?"

Emma: "If you know what I mean, don't ask."

Gilbert: "I'm asking you because I don't know. ...How can we make up?"

Emma: "It's not like we're fighting."

Gilbert: "You're mad at me, aren't you? For saying, "You'll be glad if I die."

I gently brush off Lord Gilbert's hand, keep my distance from him, and nod.

Gilbert: "You are such a saint that you would respect even the life of a villain. Aren't you kind?"

I understand, but it doesn't add up. I think that's how Lord Gilbert is feeling right now.

Emma: "… The owner once told me that Lord Gilbert used to be a boy with a beautiful heart."

Gilbert: "Ahaha, what is that?"

Emma: "And he even told me that I am like Lord Gilbert."

I felt the atmosphere around Lord Gilbert sway slightly.

Emma: "I am often told by Rio and others that "I take care of others and neglect myself..."

Lord Gilbert tries to laugh it off, but his eyes are not smiling.

It didn't seem to be a misguided consideration.

Gilbert: "And even if that were true, then what is beyond that?"

Gilbert: "Are you going to say, "You are actually a good person. So you shouldn't die?"

Gilbert: "Ahaha, don't do that, okay? That's disgusting."

Emma: "I won't say it. Whatever the reason, Lord Gilbert chose the path of evil."

Emma: "It's ridiculous to think you're a good person, and I've never thought so."

Gilbert: "Then you don't mind if I die, do you?"

Emma: "You're taking this too far!"

Gilbert: "Yeah? I think death is the norm for villains."

Emma: "I think it's cowardly. When you die, it only makes you feel better."

Gilbert: ". . . . . ."

Gilbert: "Ahaha! Yes, that's right. I see, you're the type of person who wants to make life a living hell, aren't you?"

Gilbert: "So when I think about you being angry... well..."

Emma: "Don't get me wrong! I don't care if it is a living hell or not."

Emma: "… It's just too unrewarding."

If it were me—I wouldn't be able to fulfill such a great ideal for a stranger.

Not unless you have someone really close to you—someone that you absolutely want to protect from deceit and corruption.

Emma: "My definition of a friend is "someone who is fun to be with, makes you laugh, and makes you want to wish them happiness."

Emma: "No, I am lost. I'm lost and confused, and I will find another way."

Gilbert: "What if a lot of people die in the meantime?"

Gilbert: "That's what I am to you."

Gilbert: "You can't be with me unless you're ready to kill me."

Gilbert: "Unless you want to be a traitor in the truest sense of the word…?"

I knew from the beginning that Lord Gilbert's definition of "friend" was different from mine.

But when the perceptions don't mesh this well, I am beyond angry and in despair.

(If Lord Gilbert thinks that way, he shouldn't have been so kind to me in the first place.)

Lord Gilbert stands up and takes a small case out of the drawer of his office desk.

The lid of the case, which was obviously made of high-quality material, was opened, and as I approached it and looked inside, I saw that it was something of a shape I had never seen before, something I had no idea what it would be used for.

(… I don't know what it is, but I know it's not good.)

It's a polished piece of silver.

When I look closely, I can see that the metal is decorated with delicate roses.

The metal had a rotating golden round thing on it and a bright red rose charm on the black part that appeared to be the handle.

Gilbert: "Yes, Little Bunny."

Lord Gilbert makes me hold it with a smile.

It felt so comfortable in my hand as if it had been made for me.

Gilbert: "That face... you've never seen it in Rhodolite, have you?"

Emma: "Is this common in Obsidian?"

Gilbert: "No. This is a prototype that I made, so it's not on the market."

Gilbert: "But it's easy to use."

Lord Gilbert grips the cylindrical silver part and presses it against his own chest.

I instinctively had a bad feeling that made me break out in a cold sweat.

Gilbert: "First, this is a safety device, so remove it, then turn this. And if you finally pull the trigger—"

Gilbert: "Even Little Bunny could kill people easily."

Emma: "Ah..."

It slips from my hand, and Lord Gilbert grabs it before it hits the ground.

Emma: "I don't have any use for this stuff!"

Gilbert: "Right now? You might think this is a murder weapon."

Gilbert: "But in other words, it could also be a "weapon needed to protect what is important" to you."

Gilbert: "But I'm sure you'll have limited opportunities to use it. As long as I'm here, your life isn't in danger."

Gilbert: "But you see, I am your greatest enemy and world disaster, protecting you."

Gilbert: "There will always come a time of choice. There's no harm in having it."

I seriously thought about kicking him off, but he didn't seem to want to touch me, instead, Lord Gilbert picked up something like a leather belt that was on the desk and began to wrap it around my leg.

Gilbert: "Yep, it fits."

Smiling with satisfaction, he attaches the gun to the belt.

Apparently, it was an accessory for carrying a gun.

Gilbert: "Carry this weapon with you at all times."

When I appealed to him with my gaze as if I couldn't understand his words,

Lord Gilbert notices this, softens his eyes, and for some reason bites my thigh.

Emma: "Hey, why would you do that!?"

Gilbert: "Oh, am I mistaken? You had a cocky look in your eye, I thought you wanted me to bite you."

Emma: "You know that's not true, right?"

Gilbert: "Hehe…"

With a confident smile, Lord Gilbert clenched his teeth, far from feeling sorry.

The mark on my thigh was painful... yet there was a glamor that I couldn't look at directly.

Gilbert: "But if you don't, you'll die, okay? That's what this place is about."

Emma: "… Don't you hate authority?"

Gilbert: "That's that, and this is that."

Gilbert: "This is Obsidian. Even if you don't like it, you have to accept my gift..."

Gilbert: "Even with this, you must not resist."

A cold hand lifts my leg and then bites me on the calf.

It felt different than trying to instill fear in my body... and force me to obey.

His tongue crawls over the bite marks, and my legs tremble.

I was about to say stop — but I gasped.

His red eye, which rarely reflects emotion, seems to have a somewhat melancholy look.

There is one scene.

One moment in Season 3, that no matter how hard I think about it, I can never figure it out.

It is so confusing that it has left me stumped for a week. So, I'll try to dissect it here. Buckle in, it will be long.

THIS SCENE. THIS F'ING SCENE.

Season 3 Episode 3.

Maybe I'm dumb, but I can't figure it out. You know that user that has their 8 part series for Gilbert's feelings? I tried to do it for this one and got NOTHING.

So, a little context. Ruby and Moody have known each other for years.

They've gone to school together for YEARS.

Ruby has liked Gilbert for YEARS.

In 1x03, Josie says that Ruby has liked Gilbert for 3 years, so by the time we see her in 3x01, she has liked Clownbert for 6 years! 6 YEARS. LIKING THE SAME GUY.

But as we know, Gilbert likes Anne and never showed Ruby any attention whatsoever. Not even romantic attention, just...attention in general. FROM WHAT WE SAW IN THE SHOW, the only thing Gilbert ever did for Ruby was help her off the ground in 1x04 and that was just because he wanted to get Anne's attention. You can imagine how hurtful it must be for Ruby by Season 3, to have the guy you like pay you zero (0) attention for 6 years.

Now, let's look at Moody. He has a love interest of his own. In 2x05, when these poor children are forced to play Spin the Bottle, Moody got to kiss Diana. We don't know if Moody liked Diana during that scene or around that time, but judging by the look on his face when the bottle lands on him, we can assume he did. However, things are fairly normal between them in 2x10, when he says his iconic "my whole life is an accident" line. Diana is sitting with him and everything seems fine, no awkwardness.

But fast forward to 3x01, Moody obviously has a crush on Diana.

He compliments her, but everytime he does so, he is met with this face:

I mean, really. What is this face, Diana? This is the MOODSTER. but I digress.

So, he is met with a painful level of non-reciprocity. Sound familiar? Because this is basically what Ruby has been going through with Gilbert! Not EXACTLY, but quite similar. A crush that has been met continually with a blank stare and lots of awkwardness.

Now we're here. Season 3 Episode 3. Mary is dying, the world is burning, but right in the middle of it all... Moody and Ruby have a little moment.

And it doesn't make much sense. I think it boils down to each episode having so many characters and storylines, that you often have to bounce between them a lot and it gets confusing.

But! Be that as it may, the last time we saw Ruby and Moody was two episodes ago when they were flirting with their own people of interest. Ruby with Gilbert and Moody with Diana. (Keep in mind this is before she saw that he was a banjo strumming king!)

In this scene, Mary is ill and Gilbert yeets off to get the doctor. In the meantime, the newspaper kids are working on their latest issue. They hang up a fresh page and upon rewatching, I noticed, when Moody says "just like magic" he is gazing at Diana, and Charlie pats him on the back. So his feelings for Diana are still very much there, despite her non-reciprocity and overall coldness. (You can even hear Josie say a scolding, "Moody" in the background.) Diana pretends not to notice and reads the newspaper. "Farmers celebrate a new Gilbert" and everyone laughs. Ruby yells that she is preoccupied and wonders why Gilbert isn't there, then starts to cry when Anne tells him that he went to get the doctor. Moody looks sad and sympathetic, observing this scene. Anne claps back at Josie, at Ruby interrupts what could be a squabble by saying that Gilbert was so heroic.

Then we get the moment that confuses me. Moody gives Ruby his handkerchief and says, "Here, Ruby, for your poor eyes."

Apparently, after some Googling, handkerchiefs were the main mode of flirting during the 1800s when overt modes of expressing attraction were restricted. We see this in 3x06, when Diana gives Jerry one. But handkerchief love was usually reserved for women expressing love to men, not vice versa. So here, when Moody gives Ruby one, it is a little odd. His face is soft and sympathetic, albeit a little teasing, so it could just be brushed off as a friendly gesture, especially since we just saw signs of him still liking Diana. And as for the poor eyes line, there is probably no other meaning to this other than it being a teasing remark about Ruby crying all the time. (We could say it was a remark about her constantly crying over Gilby when he doesn't care about her, but I don't think so.)

Josie then whistles and asks Diana if she is taking notice of this. Moody glances at her and Diana looks uncomfortable. He looks surprised that Josie is pointing it out to Diana and when she does, he turns back to Ruby smiling like an idiot. He's pleased that his little gentlemanly act got noticed by Diana, or so he thinks.

Then Ruby says, after blowing her nose, "it's true, I am beautiful when I cry". I...am confused. Why would she say that? Is it...I just. No matter how hard a try, for all my analysis, I get stuck on that. Did Ruby interpreted the kerchief moment as a romantic gesture? Did Moody intend for it to be a romantic gesture? He looked surprised when Josie treated it as one, so I guess he didn't. Ruby must have interpreted it as romantic, though, so she chalked it up to it being her beautiful crying face. I don't think she even considers Moody an option by this point, even though he glowed up. We see Moody give her a second glance, though, so maybe he just noticed what she was talking about? He's looking at Ruby tenderly, which makes no sense since up until this point he's been making heart eyes at Diana. Did he realize in that moment that since Diana doesn't like him, Ruby could be an option???

Ruby then bundles up the tissue and goes to give it back to him??? Which is a weird thing to do because what would Moody do with a gross, snotty tissue? But ok. He rightfully tells her that she should keep it (because gross) but then adds, "if you like".

Ruby is confused and Moody continues to gaze at her!

So, in summary, WHAT THE HECK?! HOW DID WE GET HERE? How did we go from "wow diana is like magic" to "keep my kerchief, Ruby". Because apparently in that time period giving someone a kerchief was romantic af?

I don't know. I'm still confused. This didn't help. Congrats if you read this whole thing lol

• Got back into the rabbit hole thanks to none other than MLQC. My favorites always were and up to this very moment still are Gavin and Kiro. I am 120% whipped for Gavin, but uh, he was rightful to be jealous of Kiro in that one date hahahaha oops. *Did end up eventually deleting the game though. Never even got to meet Shaw, damn :')

• And in terms of IkeSen, I've finished at least one route for Mitsunari, Yukimura (+sequel), Ieyasu (+sequel), Sasuke, Kenshin, Motonari, Mitsuhide, & Keiji, & Kanetsugu. Currently on Kicho's route. Yukimura has been my favorite since my second route, lately Mitsuhide is crawling up too..

• Ended up reinstalling IkeVamp after a bit of a break. Started with Napoleon, but have also done (at least one of) Theodorus, Arthur, Vincent, Isaac, Comte, and Daizai, and Mozart's routes. Partway through Leonardo's on my alt, and semi-reading Charles' on main. Unsure as to who is my favorite anymore, but I do most often find myself leaning towards Arthur/Napoleon.

• Had also installed Ayakashi: RR for quite awhile before losing my account, and being left absolutely heartbroken. Ended up recently buying it for Switch thanks to both nostalgia and devastation. My favorites were always Nachi and Aoi, only managed to finish the Dawn book and Aoi's book unfortunately, but hoping to get to read some more now with the Switch port.. which tragically doesn't include Dusk faction. RIP. Have done a few on Switch now tho! :)

• Ended up downloading Obey Me! some time ago now for coins on Ikesen, but the game ended up winning me over so here we are haha. Leaned towards Satan and Simeon as my favorites for quite awhile.. but it could be anyone's game, seeing as I'm terribly easy to sway.. (⁄ ⁄•⁄ω⁄•⁄ ⁄)⁄ *Edit: I also really like Asmodeus, Barbatos and Solomon a lot lately. (Edit2: Deleted both OM & NB, but still enjoy stuff for it!)

• Played some of Tears of Themis during the CBT and absolutely loved it! Felt like forever for it come out, I can only speak the highest of praises for it so far. It's such gorgeous quality with interesting mechanics, plus, I'm a sucker for a good mystery game/storyline! Also in case my taste wasn't glaringly obvious at this point....... I really liked Luke and fell hard for him during the beta test lol♡ ......but post-release somehow became a huge Marius simp, go figure ʅ◕ฺᴗ◕ฺʃ＊

• Can't believe I never remembered to add Ikerev on here, despite how much I post about it.. oh wow, talk about forgetful! Anyway I started off with the loml Luka <3 and have never looked back since! (Though I do really enjoy all of the characters, Luka is just always my #1 tbh. Very much enjoyed all of the feels in his TTLG sequel!!) Afterwards I completed Harr, Kyle, Zero, Seth, Dalim, & Jonah's (main+sequel) routes as well. Currently reading Fenrir's route on main. I'm such a sucker for the game I even made a alt account(s) just to be able to enjoy all the story events and more routes.. oop. Completed one run of Oliver's & now on Ray's route on the first alt, then started on Edgar & Loki.

• And while we're at it, Ikepri! I'm all over the place when it comes to Ikepri but my general consensus seems to be that I have a favorite.. half or so of the cast hahaha. Yves and Licht were my favorites before the global ver even dropped, but then Rio, Silvio & Nokto all stole my hearts along the way. I've completed both ends for Yves, Leon, Nokto, Licht, Rio, Silvio <3, & Chevalier. One route cleared for Jin, Clavis, & Luke, Sariel, Keith, Gilbert. Looking forward to the other new sequels, princes, and act! Yves, Licht & Rio were my faves at launch, then eventually Silvio wholly took over my life & wallet. + Keith's been climbing far up my roster lately too,, (Finished Gilbert's route on alt and currently reading Yves'!)

• Adding in IkeVil now that it's out in EN! Finished Harrison's route on main & William's on my alt. Swapped them around now to read the other ending for both routes. Still undecided as to my favorite/s, but Victor was the first to catch my attention, and holds most of my intrigue, alongside Jude now. I do hold the starter trio in high regard presently, and find I might be most biased towards Harrison..? Ended up deleting Ikevil and will likely just wait for Jude, Victor & Ring's routes while still keeping up with spoilers/subs instead.

• Fairly recently had gotten into SLBP and also ended up falling for Yukimura there as well, so go figure lol. Also completed Kaede, Masamune, & Hotaru's routes as of this update. Currently on Shigezane's route.*Edit: I ended up falling hella hard for Sogo (Kaede) and Hotaru.. and the many others.. the name Yukimura still rings a bell, I swear-

• Almost forgot to add TWST on here! My faves from jump were Riddle and Cater, and they still hold a very soft spot in my heart. I don't see most of the characters in a romantic light, as I'm a bit older than the majority of them. But there's a ton I enjoy platonically, or even joke about adopting (like Deuce and Silver. I seem to be quite biased towards Heartslabyul & Diasomnia, in case that wasn't also glaringly so far haha. Only about 3 books completed due to constantly deleting and reinstalling the app due to space/inactivity but I read the jp spoilers a lot anyway. I bark ferally for Divus Crewel (and General Lilia), consider yourself warned. -w-;

• Used to play a lot (and I mean A LOT) of otomes back in high school. Like the SWD series, Voltage games, etc. (phew, it's been awhile). Used to have the biggest crush on Mirai from Sleepless Cinerella ngl (and also kinda Ocean from that one genderbent fairytsle SWD game). There were regrettably some games where the grind took too long or I lost all my data and I could never finish them.. but it's alright, they live on in my heart! (Like that one game where she works at a hospital out of revenge to find out who botched her mom's operation.. that one was really fascinating ngl.)

• Now the proud owner of Code Realize for Switch. Will update as I play through, but I absolutely adored the anime, and Fran/Victor most definitely stole my heart. (I see Cardia/Arsène as cannon thanks to it but... I still very much enjoy my mans, yknow? ლ(- ◡ -✿)ლ) Might end up going the switch port route for otomes soon bc mobile ones got me f'd up rn.

• I play some What in Hell is Bad? here and there too! Beelzebub & Satan are my favorites as of writing this (Lucifer has yet to drop). A lot of my favorites are the lesser demons though, like Bael, Bathin, etc. Only got through roughly ch.2 of the main storyline, & had to delete due to storage issues & not having enough time/motivation for card grinding.

• Got curious cause of a friend and some ads about Love & Deepspace and well... I'm too far down to quit anytime soon lol. I joined just after the fourth LI was added (during the quad smexy banner, ikik). Started out a devoted Xavier girlie, now I'm all over Rafayel & Sylus too.. In Sylus' voice: "Get it together, sweetie.". Zayne loves my account though and comes home more times than I've got toes so heeyy bestie~ (I'll probably eventually get tired of the grind too.. but hey, there's always fics! ilysm writers <3)

Slow steps lead me to the front door, and thanks to sweet aunt Jenna's naivety nothing is easier than to get it. Pen Soul: Jodie Jo’

There’s a story to be told and in Pen Soul Jodie Jo succeeds at doing so.

As quoted in the description on Soundcloud, "Jodie Jo' uses this double entendre to show that his soul is in his pen, or per-say, his writing. Everything comes from within, if looked at from a spiritual point of view, most would consider it God sent." He tells many stories from another's perspective in this 16 track LP, reeling out subconscious thoughts and pinned up emotion.

“The backstory of Pen Soul is just the experiences I've encountered in my day to day life.” says Jodie “The tracks on this project deal with a lot of internal issues that cause negative impact on relationships such as, holding grudges, miscommunication, judging, blaming, ignorance, and lack of leadership, but also it brings in the solutions to these issues that can be heard in various tracks, such as forgiveness, apologies, understanding, knowing self, vibrating higher, and finding purpose. So Pen Soul really derives from my soul, the things that I've struggled with, and how I overcame things, but I wrote the songs in a way where it's not telling my personal business, I paint scenarios of other people's lives and situations which can be related to, while giving a message that can't be heard unless dissected.“

Truly Pen Soul speaks on the problematics of our society, of Black America. It uses a range of beats that incorporate a jazz, nostalgic feel while taking you back to your roots.

Pen Soul starts off with Enter the Course (Intro) which gives us a sneak peek of what to expect next. Building up, the track starts off with a gun shot and then a British accented lady begins to speak as if she is giving a friend a word of advice. Afterwards, there is a bit of everything in the audio snippets from "Black Household" or "Church Sunday, Stripper Monday" to police sirens (to even some news documentations.) which adds a sweet touch to a transition.

The second track, Hard Heart (Part 1) drones into your ear sockets with a dash of ethereally, low drum kicks, saxophones, soft yet angelic singing and mellow back phrasing. He feeds the mind with a spoonful of knowledge about dealing with obstacles that life throws at you. Going even further, Jodie says that you shouldn’t let these same obstacles (like battle wounds) or past situations harden your heart. Life can flash before your eyes, so it’s best to just love with all you’ve got. Towards the end he speaks for the hurt by saying “How can I love someone who wants to do me wrong?” As a result, we begin to think of ways to get over those hurdles within ourselves and even though it can seem difficult, Jodie’s symphony makes it easier.

Black Household puts you at ease with its nostalgic yet soulful aura. In an instant the listener is able to understand what it’s like for those who live either with a single black household from the perspective of the mother and the kid. It really reflects on the deep emotion a mother must sacrifice in order to make ends meet but at the same time, she shouldn’t treat him the way she does because of stress and he seems to agree. Overall this track shows a strained yet loving relationship between a son and his mother.

Some shake it for the glory. Some for the gold. But in this women’s case, she does it for both. In the fourth track Church Sunday, Stripper Monday Jodie Jo’ is the narrator and he tells a brutally honest story about a woman who thinks she is rebuking her sins on the weekdays by going to church. His words are centered by an elevated production that has some passionate melodies, enticing saxophones and finger snapping snares. All in all the song gives off the feeling that it’s meant to: wise words and gospel thrown in with a pulsating tempo.

With the ongoing daunted tone from the piano chords, fast paced drums, cymbals, passionate saxophone and clickers to follow, Mama Drama (The Tale of The Good Baby Daddy) bangs in as the fifth track and tells a story about a mother who keeps a loving man away from his kids (which can be surprising to some because it is usually the other way around.) The production and words that Jodie choose to use are hard hitting. These two elements also wring out the right emotion from your heart, making it easy to feel the fathers pain.

Announced as the sixth track Feminine Myocardium to me, is a man's proclamation of love towards a woman who just doesn't show him ordinary love. The track is followed by reverse tape effects, minor saxophone blares and guitar chords, making the listen more sentimental and in turn, easy to recall past experiences with an old flame.

The seventh track Yeah Yeah, Sure Sure is about the mindset one is in during an argument but shows that love always outweighs the flaws seen in one another. Jodie's floetry in this piece can be characterized to Andre 3000’s due to the structure of syllables and grammatical phrasing that he decides to use. The production has the same reverse tape effect and blaring saxophone as the last but it also includes some warm, splashy piano chords and muffled drums.

"And they fight, and they fuss", thats what Jodie Jo paraphrases in the chorus of the eighth track called Ignorant Love. As it starts off with some deep twilight effects, the track raises the tempo with some light tamborine play, 808's and the same blaring saxophone. The message in the song is told by Jodie Jo who uses duality in his delivery and flows. To sum it up, the character in the story just wants all the fighting to end. It's taking a toll on the relationship that the lovers have.

As Ignorant Love fades out, the ninth track Aniyah's Melody is able to fabricate a cut of funk and soul. Backed up with melodious singing, spacey syntheziers and saxophones, Jodie Jo is able to spar out remorseful notations as the character to the woman that he loves.

The eleventh track Asthma & Pneumonia to me, sounds like The Way by Jill Scott except it's a little bit more slowed down and Jodie replaces the words "Is it the way.." with "Mama I can't breathe.." and adds "I got asthma & pneumonia" in as back chorus. As Jodie goes down the storyline about his asthma attack, Jodi tells us that we shouldn't take this life to granted. The lively saxophone and drums help from beginning to end, taking the track to a close and leaving some space for Puff, Pass to start.

The hardest to make for Jodie, Puff Pass wafts in as the twelvth track of the LP. As quoted by Jodie "It was one of the first tracks I started, but ended up being the last one I finished. Whenever I approached this track, my mind went blank. I didn't want to approach the song in a boring way, nor be too cliche with the topic about smoking.” Jodie’s smooth words are followed by some lighter flicks, spacious droning and low hitting drums. As a result the song transports the listener on a stimulating trip.

In the midst of Puff, Pass fading out, the thirteenth track Vibrate Rendition zooms in the perspective of another who has a sincere apology to those that he has been a “burden to”. Frankly, the character doesn’t want to cause pain anymore.. he just wants to make things right. The powerful words that Jodie uses are followed by some deep soul and sultry jazz to stress the endearment he feels. Jodi even takes us back to the Speakerboxx/TheLove Below days as he chants the excerpt from the song Vibrate in the middle to end!

A continuation of Hard Heart Pt 1, the fourteenth track called Hard Heart Pt 2 speaks from the perspective of others who let their anger or grudges get the best of them. This track is relatable to everyone because we’ve all had those people who have crossed us, but Jodie assures us that we just need to let it all go in order to live a prosperous life. Getting the point more across, the drums and piano also add a “rise and fall” effect to the storyline!

Second to last, the fifteenth Death & Fear takes an nostalgic approach. The drums and piano give the song a warm feeling and gives Jodie some free room to speak on all of the things he plans to accomplish.

Last but not least, Dreamville Audition II is just a scenario of how his audition could go once he meets Mr. Jermaine! I won’t give out too much detail but, I will say that this track bangs! It really captures Jodie’s versatility, solid bar structure multi floetry and powerful cadence.

To conclude, Pen Soul is one of many projects that really reflect the hard work that Jodie puts into his craft (you can even see where his inspirations root from: J.Cole & Andre 3000.) Jodie is here to make the world listen and be aware of what’s going on around them. Every time Jodie Jo raps, it is always different and he is constantly showing growth. All in all the lyrics and soulfulness hold weight on your mind but after you listen to the full collective.. expect to feel uplifted.

After all, Jodie Jo is the teacher and we are just the students.

1. What are the steps that you took to create Pen Soul?

Jodie: The steps I took to make this album happen was first and foremost to pray before I worked on anything. From beats to lyrics, to brainstorming, to looking for inspiration. God plays a big part in my creativity and creations. After that, comes preparation, I make about 3 beats in a day and just get in the booth and freestyle over the beat. Usually I find a hook melody first before writing verses, if that sounds like album potential, I write a song to that beat and see what I get. Usually 2 or 3 days later it sounds wack to me and so, that's how tracks get denied. So pretty much I followed that process until I composed 16 tracks, that I felt were fitting for my intentions for the album.

2. In your opinion, what is the best album that was made in history?

Jodie: In my opinion, the best album made in history would have to be Songs in the Key of Life by Stevie Wonder, that being after Pen Soul of course.

3. What’s the difference between Pen Soul & Big Ups to Tha Homies?

Jodie: The difference between Pen Soul and Big Ups 2 Tha' Big Homie first and foremost would be the replay value, Pen Soul I believe has more songs that can be put on repeat while "BU2TBH" has songs that you'll play once and then come back later and be like "Oh yeah, this was my song". Next would be the soulful touch, Pen Soul is considered my only classic in my personal accumulation of projects. Pen Soul is diverse in the production, it has saxophones adding to it's spice, and it all together is greatly put together and much more thought out than BU2TBH.

4. Upcoming Songs:

Jodie: Keep a look out for around Christmas time, that's all I'm gonna say there.

5. What advice would you give to your younger self?

Jodie: If I could give my younger self advice I would tell me to talk to God, take life as it comes, truly develop a belief that anything is possible, don't stress about society's idea of success, count your blessings, and tell your parents, siblings, and loved ones about your love & appreciation for them more often.

6. Who do you admire in Underground Hip-Hop?

Jodie: I truly admire my homeboy Jodie Jo', because he's so consistent and true to himself and those around him. I think he has potential to be a legend amongst legends.

7. Advice to artists working on a project:

Jodie: It's okay to hate your work for a period of time. Get true feedback from people who aren't just pumping you up. Get inspired, try to talk about something nobody is talking about, or at least in a way that nobody else has. Be creative with your voice. Don't create songs based on other people's taste, create your taste and you'll attract people who have your taste. Get an ear for your voice, and your sound. Speak with clarity.

Jodie: Y'all are real as ever, God has his hand upon out unit, I am appreciative of everyone that reaches out, everyone who shares, everyone who goes the extra mile.
