My Most Ambitious Crossover
I got bored by posting only my second gen Amazon AU, so I’ll get back to that tomorrow, but enjoy this one-shot about Chloe and Marinette creating their own trip instead of their class trip in the meantime. Can’t have you all thinking I’m a one-trick pony, can I?
“-and that’s why we think you shouldn’t go on the trip this year.” Mlle. Bustier tried to look apologetic, but it was as much her idea as the students. Between Marinette refusing to set an example and Chloe associating with her, neither of them deserved to go.
“Oh, thank goodness. I was afraid I would have to get my daddy to donate 30% of the funds like he does every year.”
“I’m just glad I don’t have to take 60% of the trip funds out of my commission profits. That will give me a much bigger budget for fabric and accessories.” Everyone blanched at the statements of the 2 girls. They were saying that they paid for 90% of the trip every year, but that couldn’t be right. They worked so hard on fundraisers every year, they must be lying about how much they contribute.
Marinette just ignored them, turning to her seatmate. “Do you think that our other friends would want to go on a trip with us? Most classes take their trips during May, so we could leave at the beginning of June and take the entire summer.”
“Nice thinking, Maribug. With fewer people, prices go down and we can afford more bang for our buck.” They walk out of the classroom, discussing who to ask and when.
The class just made a big mistake.
-----
By the time the weekend rolled around, Marinette and Chloe had their group list finalized. The people going on their trip were themselves, Luka, Kagami, Aurore, Mireille, and Marc. They got together and started brainstorming fundraisers.
Marinette started. “There are the given examples; you know, car wash, bake sale, raffle. What else?”
“We could host a show.” Luka suggested.
“Like an exhibition?” Marinette asked. “We could have you perform, Kagami do a fencing demonstration, and I could do a small fashion show, using Chloe and Marc as models. Aurore and Mireille could be our MCs.”
“To capitalize on money-making, we could sell tickets, food and drink, and merch for Luka’s solo career as well as commission spots for our resident designer.”
“That’s good.” Marinette starts scribbling in the shared notebook.
“At Le Grande Paris, we could host parties. I know days when the grand ballroom is open. We could host an auction, sell lessons and creations and stuff. We could also host a masquerade ball that we sell tickets for. We could charge for food and drink. The pools are open for private reservation quite often, we could have parties there too.” Chloe takes the notebook and starts writing down her ideas, mapping out all the resources needed while muttering.
“We could also host a carnival or a gaming tournament in the ballroom.” Kagami looked thoughtful. “I’ve never actually been to one.”
Chloe added that to the list. “Should we do anything else?”
“We could start a go-fund-me. Artists and writers do it all the time to get their creations off the ground.” Marc murmured.
“That would be great. What’s our goal for this entire endeavor?”
“Our goal, Maribug, is €45,000. That should cover travel, boarding, tours, food, and souvenirs. Whatever we don’t spend gets redistributed to the group.” Chloe supplies.
“Then that should be it. Nice job, guys!”
“My, what a whirlwind of a planning session. I hope nothing rains on our parade. I wonder weather Mlle. Bustier’s class is doing this well.” Aurore beams at them.
“Mm-hmm.” Mireille agrees with Aurore.
“Probably not. Our classmates couldn’t pour water out of a boot with instructions on the heel. They’ll just listen to Lila that the boot will empty by itself through the toe because ‘I worked on patenting this boot’, then they’ll get mad at the boot for not doing it.” Chloe chuckles dryly.
“Be nice.” Marinette reprimands half-heartedly.
-----
Chloe immediately filed the paperwork with the school board so they could go on their trip with no safety or legal concerns. She recruited Mme. Mendeleiev and M. D'Argencourt to be their chaperones, who were more than happy to go on an all-expenses-paid trip to Los Angeles, Star City, Central City, Metropolis, Gotham, New York City, and Tokyo.
They had their first fundraiser at the end of September, a pool party at Le Grande Paris. Even Mlle. Bustier’s class attended, though they didn’t know who had set it up, only that Luka was performing. They hadn’t even started their planning  yet. The group made €3,041.
The next was a car wash in the middle of October. It was cool enough for a car wash to be pleasant while being warm enough that everyone was still out and about. They earned €2,632. Bustier's class was getting ice cream and listening to Lila brag.
They then had an All Hallow’s Eve bake sale, complete with candy decoration reminiscent of the American holiday. They earned €1,800.
During November, they held a carnival, with a full fall theme. It was wildly popular with families from all over Paris, earning them €6,483. It was around this time that Mlle. Bustier’s class held a bake sale, and earned €1,594. They celebrated.
Throughout the holiday season, they took advantage of peoples’ spirit. They held a raffle throughout the 12 Days of Christmas, while also holding a bake sale the day before winter break. Overall, they earned €10,749.
Over winter break, Chloe bought plane tickets and reserved tours and hotels, so all that was left was to get money for the tours and food. They were over halfway to their goal.
During January, they rented a theater, and held their exhibition. They had a crowd of fencing enthusiasts, rock music lovers, and fashion followers. They made €5,830.
They held a date auction and a masquerade to celebrate Valentine’s Day. It was amazing, and they earned €7,284.
They had checked their go-fund-me, and had found that €10,000 was there, putting them €2,819 over their goal. They were ecstatic!
They still held the gaming tournament at the end of April, but let it be free for everyone to enjoy as their celebration of reaching their goal.
-----
Mlle. Butsier’s class had made €7,000 over their 3 fundraisers, and they were pretty proud of themselves. No doubt they would be going somewhere much better than whatever Maribrat and Chloe have planned. Once the girls walked into the classroom, the class started to brag.
“We’ve finished fundraising!”
Marinette smiled and decided to be nice to them. “Cool. Where are you going?”
“We are going to New York City.”
Chloe was not as kind. “Oh, so are we! It was so hard to raise the €45,000 needed for our trip, but we did it. It was so euphoric to meet our goal. How much did you guys raise?”
“We made €7,000.” The smiles slowly slipped off the faces of the class. “What do you mean the €45,000 needed?”
“Well, we needed to cover food, travel, boarding, and tours, and that was just for the 7 of us. I can’t imagine what the budget would’ve been like for an entire class.” Her smile got an edge, like a lioness who knew she had cornered her prey.
Her classmates blanched. “What was our budget, Alya?” Rose looked towards their new class representative, hoping that she had an answer.
“We never had one.”
“Well, at least you filed the paperwork right?”
“What paperwork?”
Marinette responded this time. “The paperwork needed to go on a trip. You were supposed to submit it to the school board for approval of safety and legality. It was on page 17 of the packet I gave you at the beginning of the year. Didn’t you read it, Alya?”
“I-I-no. Lila said that was just extra work that you had given me to throw me off my game. She said you didn’t actually need to do all of that.”
“I didn’t know that Lila had more experience being a class representative than me and Marinette, the only 2 people who have ever been class representative here.” Chloe’s voice became as sharp and sweet as her smile. “Well, have fun with your trip. Marinette and I have to do last-minute checks on our arrangements.”
The class looked at the people that had carried them the previous years, and realized how much they relied on the girls. Lila was cursing herself for pushing away the only people who actually did anything in this class.
-----
The class ended up going to Disneyland Paris, and tried their best to look as upbeat as possible on their social medias. Meanwhile, The group was having the time of their lives.
They stayed in LA for 2 weeks, visiting movie sets and meeting actors. They spent another week just going on everything at Disneyland and California Adventure.
They then spent a week in Star City, touring Queen Industries and having a meet and greet with Oliver Queen and his ward, Roy Harper, who seemed to enjoy Aurore’s outgoing personality. They even saw the vigilantes.
They spent another 2 weeks in Central City, touring STAR Labs and watching the rogues try to fight the Flash family. It was the most meta-filled city in the world, and They toured a forensics lab with Bart Allen. Chloe seemed grimly pleased with seeing the bodies. She might’ve been projecting certain people onto them, not that she would ever admit it.
2 weeks in Metropolis was really fun. They toured the Daily Planet with Clark Kent and Lois Lane. Mireille was amazed by what you could do to report without having to be in front of a screen. They made a scavenger hunt of how many Supers they could find, and they found 2 different superboys. Lex Corp also gave them a tour, although it was more professional than the tour of the Daily Planet.
They spent 1 week in Gotham. They toured Wayne Enterprises and stayed out of the Bats’ way. Luka got the phone number of Tim Drake. Marinette enjoyed the inspiration that the gothic architecture brought her. There wasn’t much of a nightlife scene, considering only fools stay out after dark in Gotham.
Their 1 week in New York City was hectic. The Avengers were all at the tower when they were touring with Pepper Potts by Chloe’s request. Chloe might’ve been unofficially adopted by Tony Stark when she stood up to them and made them ‘cease their bullshit’. The Black Widow also took a liking to the girl. They also ran into these weird teens muttering about monsters when they were waiting for the elevator at the Empire State Building.
2 weeks in Tokyo. Their last stop. They visited the prestigious Ouran Academy, the host club getting Marc to come out of their shell by constantly helping boost his self-esteem. Chloe enjoyed talking business and finances with Kyoya Ootori. Kagami led them all in a traditional tea ceremony, before they all stormed the streets to try the unfamiliar street food.
Marinette ended up being unofficially adopted by 3 heroes, 2 rogues, and 5 billionaires. She was happy getting to spend 7 weeks on the road with only her closest friends.
The class was incredibly jealous of the trip their classmates took. They hoped next year they could go on a trip like that as well, but they had missed their shot.

Reviews for Every Movie I Watched in March+April
Kinda fell off on watching movies after January due to some mental health shtuff, but I’ve slowly been getting back on that horse and I wanted to talk about the movies I’ve seen, so here we are. Take my number ratings with a grain of salt, they’re mostly off the cuff and giving a movie a numbered grade is pretty arbitrary anyway.
March 1: The Wizard of Oz (1939)  dir. Victor Fleming - 9/10
It is STUPID how good this movie is for 1939. I really do like almost everything about this movie, from the fun characters to the bright and colorful set design to the iconic music. In fact, the only parts of the movie I don’t like are that ugly ass Cowardly Lion and those godforsaken Munchkins.
March 1: Kick-Ass (2010) dir. Matthew Vaughn - 8/10
Even when Matthew Vaughn is bad, he is still amazingly fun, and this movie is by no means a bad movie. Nicolas Cage gives the best performance, I love his delivery on some of his lines. This movie is so much fun y’all. Just watch it, you’ll have a good time. (And yes, I know both Quicksilvers are in this, you don’t have to tell me)
March 13: There Will Be Blood (2007) dir. Paul Thomas Anderson - 10/10
This is a fuck-you movie. This movie curb stomped me, spat in my face, and told me I’d never make it in this industry. I don’t need to tell you this movie is incredible, ‘cause if you’ve seen it you already know, and if you haven’t you are seriously missing out.
March 14: The Philadelphia Story (1940) dir. George Cukor - 7/10
I had a hard time deciphering how I feel about this movie. I watched this for a Classic Film course, so I had a couple days to listen to and share some deeper analysis, and I feel like this film is actually pretty good. I don’t have any strong feelings on it, check it out if you like classic film.
March 14: Moulin Rouge! (2001) dir. Baz Luhrmann - 8/10
This movie is bombastic as hell, and even if this is a bad movie, it’s a good movie in my soul. Ewan McGregor, please return my calls.
March 15: The Ruthless (2019) dir. Renato De Maria - 5/10
I guess this movie just isn’t for me, I don’t know. I really do like Riccardo Scamarcio in this movie, but that’s the extent of the really good things. I was on a “Santino from John Wick” kick, I can’t really explain it.
March 20: The Host (2006) dir. Bong Joon-ho - 9/10
Bong Joon-ho has never disappointed me once, and I don’t think he ever will. This is one of the best monster movies I have ever seen (granted I don’t think I’ve seen a lot of monster movies). Watch this movie, it has a wonderful heart and a wonderful monster.
March 20: Citizen Kane (1941) dir. Orson Welles - 10/10
Anything I can say about this movie has already been said, so I’m going to leave you with “I wrote a paper on this film and got a C so fuck this movie” and call it a day.
March 27: Sound of Metal (2019) dir. Darius Marder - 9/10
I am so glad a watched this movie. Riz Ahmed gives an award winning performance if only he hadn’t been competing against Anthony Hopkins. Paul Raci is also really, really good in this movie, and I don’t think that’s mentioned as much, and I think it should be.
April 6: Casablanca (1942) dir. Michael Curtiz - 9/10
I did not think I would enjoy Casablanca as much as I did, but yeah. This is a great movie. I wanna go on record and say Humphrey Bogart is not tall, he is 5′8″. He wears pumps in this movie and they’re really funny to look at.
April 10: Dr. No (1962) dir. Terence Young - 7/10
This was my introduction to the Bond universe, and I thought it was a pretty good way to get me into the character of James Bond. Sean Connery is the strongest part of this movie as Bond. It is by no means a perfect movie, some aspects are extraordinarily outdated. But as a first crack this movie gets two thumbs up from me.
April 18: The Godfather (1972) dir. Francis Ford Coppola - 10/10
This film is truly something special. I am lucky that I was able to experience the story basically blind (I knew about some specific plot points and some famous lines, but for the most part this was all new to me), and I was extra lucky that I got to watch it with my dad. Being able to watch The Godfather with someone who has a deep love of the genre and the film itself is something that enhances almost every movie going experience. The Godfather is one of the greats.
April 19: Mank (2020) dir. David Fincher - 6/10
I am not in love with this movie. I don’t hate it, but I don’t particularly like it either. The production design is great, and as a general appreciator of classic cinema I liked those aspects just fine. There’s just something in here that’s preventing me from fully liking this movie.
April 21: Judas and the Black Messiah (2021) dir. Shaka King - 9/10
The only way I can describe this movie is “important.” King gives us a story of a often left out part of the Civil Rights movement, and it’s a story that everyone should be aware of. Fred Hampton was only 21 when he was assassinated, and yet he left such a mark on the fight for racial equality. Daniel Kaluuya absolutely deserved his Oscar win, he is a dream in this film. This is an uncompromising, tragic, and endlessly relevant movie.
April 23: The Father (2020) dir. Florian Zeller - 10/10
Yeah I cried. Anthony Hopkins is... I don’t think his performance can be summed up in words. It’s heartbreaking, everything about this movie is soul-crushing.
April 24: Promising Young Woman (2020) dir. Emerald Fennell - 8/10
(You can tell I was cramming for the Oscars at this point) It is really hard to review Promising Young Woman. It’s incredibly polarizing to the film community, and it’s also polarizing in my own opinion. I really don’t know how I feel here, all I know is my feelings are strong. Also every time Bo Burnham was on screen I had a big stupid grin on my face, I can’t wait for his new special to come out.
April 25: Nomadland (2020) dir. Chloe Zhao - 9/10
What a beautiful experience. This movie, on top of being absolutely gorgeous, has such a wonderful soul that completely shines through Zhao’s directing. There’s a monologue about maybe a half hour in that describes so succinctly the beauty of nature, and as someone who lives in a much more urban area of the world, it’s a description that I don’t get to see that often in my life. That’s why I love film. If Promising Young Woman made me angry at the world Nomadland made me fall back in love with it.
April 25: Minari (2020) dir. Lee Isaac Chung - 8/10
Watching Minari is like being gently set on fire. My feelings aren’t as strong as they were for Nomadland, and I don’t have much to say, but I still adore this movie and think it’s worth watching.
April 26: Singin’ in the Rain (1952) dir. Gene Kelly, Stanley Donen - 8/10
I think my film teacher puts it best in describing this movie as “just so stinkin joyous.” That’s what this movie is, it’s joy put to film. I love how you can clearly see the excitement over making film that comes through in older movies, I feel like you don’t really see that anymore.
April 28: Some Like It Hot (1959) dir.  Billy Wilder - 7/10
As glaringly outdated this film is, I still managed to have a pretty good time with it, although I can totally see why the plot could put some people off, or even make them outright dislike the film as a whole. Marilyn Monroe playing a ukulele made me feel very seen. (This is my first Marilyn movie as well!)
April 29: Snowpiercer (2013) dir. Bong Joon-ho - 8/10
CHRIST this movie is intense. The best part of Snowpiercer is it is engaging as hell. Unfortunately I had to duck out about three quarters of the way through to get some dental work done, but rest assured under different circumstances I would have been glued to the screen from start to finish. The premise is chilling (ha ha, get it), and the subplot of class disparity is also really compelling. If you know me you’ll know that I love me some John Hurt, Song Kang-ho has been great in pretty much every movie I’ve seen him in, TILDA FUCKING SWINTON rocks every scene she’s in. My only real problem here is sometimes Chris Evans is a bit hit or miss for me, I really like his performance at times, and I like it less at others. It has been cool to see him grow as an actor over the years, you can definitely see his improvement in more recent movies. In any case, I stand by my previous statement, Bong Joon-ho has never disappointed me once, and I don’t think he ever will.

A Ladybug in Gotham #1
 Marinette knows no peace
Ok fuck it, we’re doing it!!! Hang on to your pants guys! <3 Also, just wanna say, I have loved every single Daminette fic I’ve read in this tag. You guys are a bunch of talented folks; I hope you guys like this! Also feel free to send me asks, and ask questions! There are some things that happen in the six months before the trip that I just,,,,,, REALLY did not feel like writing lmao >.> There is an allusion to some heavy stuff, but we won’t be getting into that yet.
Ages are 17-18, and Lila has been back for 4 years by the time they get to Gotham.
Damian: 18, 19 in a few months ( like august)
Marinette (& crew): 17, (Mari’s b day is actually the month they’re in Gotham, so like april/may-ish??) Also Chloe is already 18
Tim: 22
Jason: 29
Dick: 35
Bruce: 48
Ao3
Part 1 :HERE: Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5
Enjoy my dears!! <3 <3
Marinette couldn’t stop the smile on her face as she leaned back in her chair, holding the acceptance paper over her head.
“We did it, Tikki! We got the trip!”
Tikki whizzed around, fluttering in front of her.
“Oh, Marinette, I know you could do it! Madame Bustier will be so happy!” Marinette smiled as her kwami nuzzled her cheek, and the girl laughed, cupping the little god close to her face.
“It’ll be just what I need for inspiration, Tikki! Gotham is beautiful in the spring I hear.” With a jolt, she sat up, her chair creaking under the sudden movement, “I have to go tell maman and papa!”
She left Tikki giggling as she raced downstairs to tell her parents.
It was one of the most exciting days of the last four years, truly.
With the fundraising done ahead of time, all she’d needed to do was write an essay on why her school deserved the trip. Despite how she personally had been treated by her class these last few years, the school still had them actively involved in the community; and while she may not like most of her classmates anymore thanks to Lila, they still took their responsibilities seriously. They had rightfully earned this chance, she thought. As the year rep, she had worked tirelessly with the other classes and their reps to arrange preparations in the event they got it, and Mme. Bustier had publicly assigned her the role of the essay; Lila had not been thrilled about that.
But she’d done it!
They were going to Gotham!
Telling Master Fu abou the possibility went well; her master trusted her judgement, and he understood her desire to go on this trip. To be safe though, he decided to send Kaalki along with her, in the event of an akuma; that way a speedy return was always possible no matter what.
She was excited; but it didn’t change the fact that the trip was still a good six months away, a good end of the year trip before graduation.
‘Just a little longer,’ Marinette thought, a rueful smile on her lips, ‘A little longer, and I’ll finally have a break.’
The four years since Lila’s return had not been kind, or even all that fun. She did her best not to dwell on her emotions, what with a madman running around praying on any and all negative feelings; but she couldn’t deny the apathy she felt at times in regards to her classmates.
Lila had made good on her promise, truly. None of her old friends cared about her anymore, bar Alix and - surprisingly - Chloe. Alya had even hit her before summer break, claiming that Lila had told her Marinette shoved her down the stairs again.
And Marinette had stared right at Adrien, her boyfriend, and he had done nothing.
And she felt nothing when she broke up with him later that same week.
Finding out he was Chat Noir over the summer had been like a slap to the face, and she was just glad he didn’t realize she’d put the pieces together; especially considering how often he visited her balcony as his hero self. He’d always flirt with her as Chat, whether she was Ladybug or Marinette; and at first, she’d almost found it flattering. Then it started to make her uncomfortable.
She’d reject him as Ladybug, only to have him come whine to Marinette while he also made passes at her, showering her in praise, and pushing her to get back with Adrien. She started avoiding her balcony.
It left her stressed and on edge; Adrien only talked to her as Chat now. He wouldn’t risk talking to her at school, and after they broke up, her parents had barred him from the bakery.
But still.
Six months.
Six more months of hell, and she’d be heading to Gotham to destress.
She couldn’t wait.
~~~~~~~~
The flight had been rather dull, despite Chloe being her seatmate for the whole trip; they’d giggled over some awful american movie for the last half, and Madame Bustier had been kind enough to room her with Chloe at their hotel. The Grand Gotham Embassy building was massive, and Marinette couldn’t help but gape in awe.
Chloe snorted as she walked up next to Mari, her own carry on in hand as they stepped off the bus.
“Careful, DC, you’ll catch flies.” Mari snapped her mouth shut, and gave Chloe a flat look; the blonde only laughed, and linked their arms.
“Come on Mari-bear, let’s get our room key so our luggage can be taken up.” Marinette smiled, and nodded.
“Yeah, I wanna get settled in too.” She leaned closer to Chloe as they walked arm in arm into the hotel lobby, heading for Mme. Bustier, “Tikki is starving.” Chloe nodded.
“Pollen is too.” She said just as softly. Marinette saw Alix wave from where she stood talking to Kim and Max, and Mari waved back softly. She averted her eyes the second Max looked at her, and Chloe hurried them away once they had their keys.
Their rooms were breathtaking, honestly. Each of the suites her class was staying in had two rooms, each with their own single bed; there was a shared seating area between the two, and one bathroom, but it still had privacy. They each had a door out onto the connected balcony, and once Marinette sat her carry on bag on her bed, she threw open the balcony door, staring out over the cityscape in wonder. Paris was beautiful, the city of Love; but Gotham was gorgeous this high up.
With a thought of mischief, Marinette scoped out some good swinging spots for later before turning to see the bellhops unloading her bags. She offered them a smile and a sincere thank you as they left. She heard Chloe settling into her room through the door, and smiled as she heard her talking to Pollen. Master Fu had decided to send Pollen along with Chloe in the event that Ladybug had to come to Paris; she could bring another ally with her if needed, without having to search one out. And since Chloé had figured out her identity two years ago, she had been the best bet. Her new hero identity, Hornet, helped.
Tikki flew out of the purse at her side, and smiled.
“We made it, Marinette! We’re finally here! Do you think the Gotham university will be what you want?”
Marinette sighed as she flopped back onto her bed, staring at the ceiling, “I don’t know, Tikki; I hope so. The website was super promising, and the woman I spoke to seemed to think I’d have no problem getting in.”
Tikki hummed as she flew down and dug a cookie from Marinette’s purse, “Well, we’ll be here for a month, so it’s plenty of time to go and see the campus. I think you’ll like it Marinette! And once we defeat Hawkmoth, maybe we can start a new chapter here!” Marinette smiled at Tikki, sitting up.
“I think I like the sound of that. I’m worried about how… Adrien will handle it though.” Her smile fell as soon as it had come, and Tikki frowned as well. She floated over to her chosen and rested her paw on Marinette’s cheek.
“Marinette, his feelings are not your responsibility. You and Adrien broke up, and the fact that he was disrespecting your wishes as his superhero self was a major red flag. I don’t know why you were so upset when the Guardian took his miraculous.”
Marinette groaned, covering her face with her hands, and Tikki wove herself into her long hair, hugging the girl.
“I know he was your partner, Marinette, and you don’t want to replace him; but you have to know, Adrien isn’t the true Black Cat.”
Marinette went still.
“Tikki, what are you talking about?”
Tikki hesitated, before floating in front of Marinette’s face, “Well, for some of the miraculous, there are multiple people who can be Chosen, and some of them are better candidates than others. Adrien was the best option out of the people in Paris, so the Guardian Chose him; but he is not meant to be your Black Cat, he is just A Black Cat.” Marinette stared at her Kwami with wide eyes, slowly processing.
“So… you’re saying he’s not my other half?”Tikki shook her head, “No; and he was never meant to be. His actions have done nothing but prove that. I’m sure once we return to Paris, we’ll be sent to find the real Black Cat.”
And in a moment of clarity, Marinette realized she was out of Paris, far away from Hawkmoth; so when tears rose to her eyes, she let them come. She covered her mouth as she sobbed, and she bent over, resting her elbows on her knees as she breathed.
“Oh, Marinette, don’t cry! Please don’t be sad!” Tikki fluttered around her anxiously as she cried, and after a moment, Marinette laughed; it was a bit raspy, but it was happy. She spared a glance at her, where, in a secret pocket, she had stored Plagg's slumbering miraculous; she looked back at her own kwami.
“Tikki, I’m-I’m not sad, I’m… I’m so relieved.” Her smile was weak, but sincere, “I was terrified that he was an inevitability I’d have to just accept…” Tikki’s frown grew, and she hugged her chosen again, little tears leaking down her face.
“I’m so sorry Marinette, I wish you didn’t have to feel so much negativity all the time.”
A knock at her and Chloe’s shared door cut her off before she could reply, and Marinette looked over in time to see Chloe peek in. The blonde’s eyes grew wide when she saw Mari crying, and she rushed over, sitting on the bed next to her.
“What’s wrong, Mari-bear?”
And Marinette laughed, wrapping her arms around Chloe.
“For once, nothing!”
Chloe shared a look with Tikki while the kwami spoke with Pollen in hushed tones, but she just hugged her friend closer. They sat in silence for awhile, waiting while Marinette composed herself. With a final sniffle, Marinette leaned back and gave Chloe a grin.
“Since it’s a rest day, do you think they’d let us check out the surrounding boutiques? I wanna see what kind of fashion Gotham has.”
Chloe snorted, but it was in good humor, “Nothing they have here could compare to what you make, Mari-bear, or even what Paris has in general.” With a smile, Chloe reached over and tapped her nose, “But I’m sure Mme. Bustier will allow it as long as you’re with someone as amazing as me.”
Chloe had learned long ago not to pry into Marinette’s business, and since she’d split up with Adrien, Chloe had learned just how true that statement was; learning that the blonde boy was Chat Noir and that he’d been harassing Marinette on her balcony? That had been an accident, though Marinette had been the one to tell her.
Chloe could only watch Marinette flinch away from the Cat hero so much before she’d gotten concerned, and asked for an explanation. And Marinette hadn’t held back; she’d told Chloe everything, from the midnight visits, to how he constantly complained about Ladybug - herself -, and finally to how he flirted with her as Marinette, and kept insinuating that she get back with Adrien.
As the only one who knew, Chloe had doubled down on partnering with Marinette for everything after that; and now that his miraculous had been reclaimed, Chloe wanted to sigh in relief.
If you’d told either girl four years ago that they would be inseparable even at the end of lycée, they would’ve scoffed and told you you were crazy; and yet here they were, Chloe helping Marinette clean up her face before they went to see madame Bustier. It was only around 3 pm in Gotham, and dinner wouldn’t be until 8; and as much as Marinette wanted to enjoy the indoor pool, she would much rather see the city.
Once they were ready, Chloe led them down to the lobby, kwamis secure in their purses, and found Miss Bustier talking with one of the receptionists. Chloe - being, well, Chloe - walked over, and interrupted.
“Mme. Bustier, Mari-bear and I are going to look at the boutiques across the street. Call me if you need us.” And leaving their teacher spluttering and indignant, Chloe led them away, and out the doors. Marinette laughed a bit as they were out of hearing range.
“She’s going to kill you Chloe, you know that?” Chloe smiled while they stood at the crosswalk waiting to cross, and she flipped her blonde bob over her shoulder.
“Please. That woman wishes she could do anything to stop me.” Marinette watched as Chloe’s smile fell, and they walked as the walk sign lit up. “Besides, of course I’m not going to listen to a teacher who has let Lila just do as she pleases. She’s just as complicit in your abuse as the rest of the class is, Mari-bear, and I will not tolerate it. It's utterly ridiculous.”
Marinette felt her heart warm, and her smile softened before she hugged Chloe’s arm closer to her. “Thanks, Chlo. Though you know~” Chloe groaned, knowing where Marinette was going with this, “you also used to torment me pretty relentlessly.”
Chloe levelled her with a flat look as they walked into a store, “Yes, we’ve established that, DC, thank you for reminding me.” Chloe pinched Marinette’s cheek with a grin, “Such a goody goody, you know that?” Marinette laughed, and batted her hand away.
“Come on, let’s see what they’ve got, dork.” She ignored Chloe’s indignant squawk, and laughed as she started looking through the clothes.
Marinette and Chloe talked idly while they browsed, but found nothing of note in the first store other than a cute pair of bulky sneakers that Marinette couldn’t help but buy. Chloe had rolled her eyes and commented on how thin they made her legs look; which of course, made Marinette reveal the inspiration behind the choice. BLACKPINK was a pretty popular K-pop girl group, and Marinette had fallen in love with their style since day one. The baggy pants with big shoes they often used was something Marinette found herself enjoying more than she ever thought she would, but she just hadn’t found the right pair of shoes until now.
The next store was much better, in Chloe’s opinion; Marinette shied away from the Agreste line on display, and followed Chloe over to where her mother’s work was displayed. Audrey was a difficult woman, but neither of them could deny her talent in the industry.
Both girls ended up leaving with something to fit in their wardrobes. Chloe had chosen a deep purple blouse with ruffled sleeves; Marinette had giggled, telling her she reminded her of a witch, but the color was excellent on her. Marinette had gone more simple and fun, opting for a zip up hoodie inspired by one of Gotham’s own heroes, Robin. It may have been spring in Gotham, but being Ladybug, Marinette was very susceptible to the cold; she’d get sluggish and sleepy, and spring in the states was cooler than in France.
By the time they were bored of the shops, it was only five o’ clock. Chloe stifled a yawn, and Marinette looked at her.
“Why don’t you go ahead and head back Chloe? I’m gonna go sit in the park there, and try to design for a bit.” Chloe stared at her for a moment before she looked at the park. It was visible from the front of the hotel, and their hotel was in the better part of the city. Well, all that, and the fact that Marinette was Ladybug...
Chloe nodded, taking Marinette’s shopping bag for her since the girl had already put on her new hoodie, “That should be ok. But I swear, DC, if something happens, I am not letting you go anywhere alone for the rest of this trip.” Marinette laughed, and waved off her concerns.
“Don’t worry, Chlo, if anything happens, I can handle it.” Feeling playful, Marinette raised her arm, and flexed, “After all, these guns aren’t just for show.”
Listening to Chloe laugh hysterically was always a treat, and it warmed Marinette from her toes to her head every time. In some small way, she was grateful to Lila; if it hadn’t been for her, she and Chloe would’ve probably never become such good friends.
“Ugh, no one likes a show off, Marinette.”
The smile fell from her face instantly, and Chloe’s laughter cut off like someone flipped a switch. Mari turned to see Lila standing behind her with a smug smile, though it had been Alya who spoke, Alya who was glaring at her with disdain. Nino was behind them looking kind of uncomfortable, Adrien next to him, backed up by Rose and Juleka, and even Sabrina. Marinette flinched under the harsh stares, and felt herself shrink as she stepped back, but before she could say anything, Chloe was there, a snarl marring her lips.
“Funny how you say that Cesaire, given who you’re friends with.” She blocked their line of sight to Marinette, though it was only Lila’s and Alya’s, and Marinette could feel Adrien staring at her, “You think what Mari was doing was showing off? Then what do you call Lila bragging about all the fake shit she’s done, huh?” Chloe didn’t even give her time to respond before she scoffed, and rolled her eyes, shutting down Alya's retort, “Oh, wait, nevermind, I forgot. You’re such a terrible reporter you don’t even fact check anymore, my bad.” Chloe smiled at the end, before making a shooing motion with her hand, “Now begone. I don’t appreciate sheep breathing my air.”
Lila turned on the waterworks as Chloe turned away, and gently guided Marinette down the sidewalk to the park they’d been talking about; Alya was shouting after them, but they continued on. Once they were out of sight, Chloe wrapped her friend in a hug, and Marinette cried. It was how it happened every time, for the last three years, since Chloe had decided to stick to the girl’s side. She’d only known about her being Ladybug for two years, but even before then, she’d made efforts to befriend the girl she’d bullied; because Lila was somehow so much worse than even Chloe was, and it was plain for the blonde to see. It had become routine at this point.
Lila and Alya would gang up on Marinette, Chloe would make them back off, and then comfort Marinette. Mari had told her time and time again, she didn’t need to do that, but Chloe knew she did. Chloe had messed up too many times to count, and she knew Marinette still cared about some of their classmates, especially Alix since she was the only other one who would hang out with them.
But Chloe?
Chloe had never cared about sparing people’s feelings until she’d become Marinette’s support. She would tear them down each time they came for her best friend. Alix had told her she was ‘fierce’, and Chloe thought it was an accurate description nowadays. They were nearly adults for crying out loud; you’d think her idiot classmates would’ve caught on to Lila’s lies by now.
“Are you ok?” Chloe asked softly. She rubbed soothing circles into Marinette’s back as the girl calmed down, her cries giving way to sniffles. Marinette nodded, pulling back and wiping her eyes.
“I-I think so. Thanks Chloe. It feels… It actually feels so much better to just let it out, and not have to worry about getting akumatized.” Chloe nodded, brushing some hair out of Marinette’s face.
“Good. Cesaire is lucky I didn’t deck her. Like, seriously, what a hypocrite.” Chloe was fuming, but she softened when Marinette laughed, “Do you still wanna sit in here and try to design?”
Marinette cleared her throat, and nodded, “Yeah, I do. It’ll be nice, I think.” She rubbed at her face some more, wiping the moisture away, but her red eyes remained. “I just want to decompress for a bit, you know?”
Chloe nodded, “Ok, then I’m gonna go ahead and go back to our room.” She gave her friend a severe look, “And I’m serious, Marinette. If anything happens, you call or text me, ok?”
Marinette rolled her eyes, but smiled, “Chloe you’re not my bodyguard, you know that right?”
Chloe scoffed, “Bullshit, I am so. And I am totally the best at it, by the way.”
Marinette hugged Chloe tight, startling the other girl, “Thanks, Chlo. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
Chloe’s mind flashed back to a dark night on the Seine from three years ago; of tears, and horrible wishes, and she wraps her arms around Marinette in a tighter embrace.
“Probably get lost, and then kidnapped, honestly. Your sense of direction is awful, Mari-bear.”
It worked, sparking another laugh out of her best friend, and Chloe wanted to sigh in relief.
“Now go and find yourself a nice spot to sit. I’m going to make sure Lie-la and her little goonies are gone.” Marinette nodded as they separated, and Chloe booped her on the nose, “I’ll see you back at the room, DC.”
With that, Chloe waved and walked back towards the entrance of the park. She needed to talk to Alix. Lila always planned something big when Chloe defended Mari, and she was sure this time would be no different. She needed to be ready.
And without the risk of being akumatized?
Well.
Chloe couldn’t help but laugh.
Lila wouldn’t know what hit her.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Marinette found a soft patch of grass in the sun behind a wall of bushes, and sighed as she sat her purse on the ground, and flopped down. She could hear the rush of cars on the street over, and sirens in the far distance; there were birds singing in the trees around her, and children laughing over at the playground she’d passed. It was peaceful.
“Marinette? Are you ok?”
She smiled as Tikki nestled into her long hair, offering her comfort.
“Yeah. Yeah, I’m ok Tikki. I just wish they’d stop. It’s lessened since Chloe became my friend, but it doesn’t change the fact that it hurts. Hearing Alya say such awful things to me, even now…” Marinette sighed, feeling her eyes tear up; nope, she was done for today, she could cry again tomorrow, “It still feels like a knife in my lungs.”
And she knew what that felt like; Sharpener had been an akuma from two years ago. She was a chef who’d gotten akumatized because her coworker had broken her best knife out of jealousy. Chat Noir had been distracted during the fight, and Ladybug had missed the akuma’s approach, taking the knife right between her ribs. Her Miraculous Cure had healed her, but Marinette still remembered the pain quite vividly.
She’d almost been akumatized after the fight was over, having been sent into a panic attack.
Shaking herself out of it, Marinette reached over into her purse and pulled out her sketchbook. She’d upgraded from her little clasp bag that she’d made to something with a bit more utility. It was a lavender shoulder bag with a cross strap, and it was large enough to hold her sketchpad, and a few other essentials while leaving plenty of room for Tikki and Kaalki, along with the pocket for Plagg's miraculous box.
“Marinette, I know their treatment of you still hurts. I’d be more worried if it didn’t. But remember,” And Marinette looked at Tikki, surprised to see the bright smile on the kwami’s face, “you’re Ladybug, with or without the mask, and if they can’t see how sincere and kind you are, then they never deserved you in the first place.” Tikki flew forward, and hugged Marinette’s cheek, “You’re  the best Ladybug I’ve ever had, and you mean so much to me. I hate seeing people hurt you, and I’m sorry I can’t do more for you, Marinette.”
“Tikki’s right, Marinette.” Mari glanced down to see Kaalki poking her head out of the purse, a smile on her face, “You’re an excellent Ladybug, and you’ll be an excellent Guardian one day, we all know it.”
Mari smiled, reaching down and rubbing Kaalki’s head gently, “Thanks Kaalki, thank you Tikki. I love you guys. You hungry?” Both kwamis said yes, and so Marinette handed Tikki a couple cookies, while Kaalki dove into the small pile of sugar cubes Marinette gave her. Tikki and Kaalki conversed quietly in her purse, and Marinette finally turned her attention to her sketchbook.
Humming to herself, Marinette drifted off as her pencil danced across the paper. It was easy to get lost in the sounds of the park around her, and she was thrilled with what she was coming up with. Already, dresses and casual clothes filled the next few pages of her book as she worked. She was just about to ask Tikki something when an explosion rocked the earth.
Marinette yelped as the ground beneath her rumbled, and Tikki burrowed into her hair in a panic.
“What was that, Marinette?!” Marinette shook her head, getting to her feet, and putting her bag over her shoulder, reaching in, and patting Kaalki in reassurance. She crawled to the edge of the bush where all the commotion had originated from, and peeked out carefully. Most of the people were gone, but she could still hear crying somewhere.
Then the laughter started.
Marinette felt a chill go down her spine. While her and the other reps of the school had been planning this trip, she had researched about every danger Gotham had to offer, looking at pictures, reading articles, and watching as many videos as she could find; she knew that laugh now.
She was just about to hide again, when she saw the source of the crying. A little girl with dark hair sat in the dirt behind a trash can, holding her hands to her eyes while she sobbed. Mind made up, Marinette dashed from the bushes, keeping low until she reached the child. She wrapped her arms around her, and when the girl tensed, she smiled gently.
“Shhh, it’s ok, honey, I’ve got you. Where’s your parents?” The little girl shook her head, tiny hands clutching Marinette’s jacket.
“N-not- h-here! B-babysitter left m-me…!” Another sob wracked the little girl’s frame, and Marinette hugged her tighter at the sound of gunfire. She needed to get out of here, get this girl to safety, but she couldn’t transform. Idly, Marinette toyed with the metal yo-yo in her purse, a gift from Master Fu that could help her fight as a civilian. She could do this.
Focusing back on the girl, Marinette pulled her back until they could look at each other; the girl’s eyes were a vibrant green, almost neon even.
“My name’s Marinette, what’s yours sweetheart?” The girl caught her breath long enough to answer, wiping at her face.
“M-Mar’i Grayson, miss.” Marinette nodded, looking at the girl in reassurance.
“I’m going to get you out of here. Let me check the area, ok? Stay behind me.” Mar’i nodded, clutching the sleeve of Marinette’s hoodie, while she leaned out around the trash can to observe their surroundings; and she promptly cursed her rotten luck.
Joker was strolling through the park with about three henchmen around him; 4 on 1 odds were not in her favor, especially with Mar’i. Marinette glanced at the little girl who was crying silently next to her, trying to not think about how much worse Joker looked in real life. Marinette found she was terrified.
No.
She had to do something. She was Ladybug, with or without her damn mask, and she was going to protect this little girl with her life.
Marinette took a deep breath, and braced herself, “Mar’i.” The little girl looked at her with wide eyes, and Marinette smiled.
“Stay behind me, ok?” She waited until Mar’i nodded, and then they waited; and Marinette listened.
“Can’t seem to find her boss. She must’ve gotten out.”
“Oh hogwash! I saw that babysitter of hers scamper out of here without the brat, so Grayson’s daughter is here somewhere!”
Oh my god.
They were after Mar’i? Why?
‘Doesn’t matter, not gonna get her.’ Marinette thought aggressively. So she calmed herself, and she listened, and she waited until they were in range. And once they were, Marinette moved.
Leaping up out of her crouch, Marinette moved Mar’i behind her right as the group turned to look at them; but Marinette was already grabbing the trash can with both hands, and hurling it at the goons and their boss. It had the desired effect, and the group scattered, but it managed to take down two of Joker’s men, knocking one out from the sheer force while the other lost the grip on his gun, losing it in the bushes. Moving quickly, Marinette swiped Mar’i up with her free hand while she retrieved the carbon fiber yo-yo from her purse with her other.
Whipping it forward, Marinette snagged the gun of the third minion, yanking it away and to her; and then she ran.
“She’s got the brat! Get after her, you idiots!”
Marinette sprinted for the entrance of the park after throwing the gun away, running as fast as her legs could carry her; which admittedly, was quite fast. Years of being bonded with Tikki, plus the extra training she’d picked up in her free time made her formidable even out of her suit; and she was not about to let that clown get his filthy hands on this precious girl.
Marinette yelped as a bullet impacted the dirt next to her feet, and then she was bobbing and weaving, dodging bullets before she ducked behind the bathrooms.
“Get the kid, damnit! God, why are you all so useless!”
Marinette looked down at Mar’i, expecting the girl to still be terrified, but she was staring up at Marinette in awe.
“Wow, Miss Marinette, you’re like a superhero!” She said softly, and Marinette flushed, but gave the girl a small smile.
“You’re very brave Mar’i, but we’re not safe yet.” She could hear footsteps coming closer, light, matching the gait she’d heard from the Joker just moments earlier. With a small huff, she wrapped Mar’i around her again, and readied her yo-yo as she ran the opposite way. She stopped short for a moment as she came face to face with the other henchman, but thinking quickly, Marinette ducked his wide swing, and brought her head upwards into his chin, knocking him back and off balance; following up with a quick swipe at his legs, he hit the ground, and Marinette was running again.
‘Almost there, so close…’ “Merde.” She hadn’t meant to say it out loud, but seeing Joker grinning at her from the entrance did not instill much hope in her. He tapped the barrel of his six shooter against the palm of his hand, watching her. Marinette sat Mar’i down, and pushed her behind her further, grip on her yo-yo tight.
“Now, now, little lady, we don’t have to fight. If you’d just hand that little girl there over, I’ll let you leave. With a smile even!” The grin on his face told her he was lying, even though his laughter was a clue in and of itself.
Marinette’s eyes narrowed, and she lowered her chin, “That’s not happening, clown. Step aside.” Joker’s eyebrows flew up, and he began laughing; Marinette hated that sound.
“She’s got some fight in her then! How interesting! And a foreigner too? So fearless!” Marinette let the yo-yo swing from her hand, swinging next to her leg, as he pointed the gun at her. She felt Mar’i grip her pants tighter with a small gasp. Joker’s grin grew, “But are you so willing to die for her?”
Marinette snarled, “Of course I am!”
The lack of hesitation made the Joker pause long enough for Marinette to make her move.
With a precision that startled even her, Marinette flung her yo-yo out again, managing to grab the Joker’s gun this time, and yanking it from him. It careened away into the brush, and Marinette snapped her yo-yo back with a trained hand; just in time to see a man dressed in black land on him from above.
Holy shit.
That’s Batman.
Shaking herself off, Marinette turned and picked Mar’i up, running the other direction; no child should see a fight like that. She had to get her to safety, to her parents, or the police, someone safe. The bathrooms? No, she’d left that goon over there, and she wasn’t sure if he was down and out or not.
“Think, Marinette, think, come on!” There had to be another exit in this park, away from the chaos of the main path; big parks always had multiple entrances and exits.
“Go that way Miss Marinette!” Marinette looked to where Mar’i pointed, and followed the girls directions. Flashing red and blue lights lit up the street, and Marinette could’ve cried with relief at the sight of the police officers.
An auburn haired woman was standing at the front of the police line, looking around in a panic, and the second her eyes landed on Marinette carrying Mar’i, she rushed forward.
“Mar’i, oh my god, baby girl, you’re ok!” The woman was crying, and Mar’i smiled, reaching for the woman.
“Auntie Barb!” Knowing Mar’i knew this woman, Marinette allowed the girl to be taken from her arms delicately, but she lingered by them. An older mustached man walked up, and held out his hand to Marinette, startling her.
“Thank you for getting her out of there. What’s your name?” Marinette flushed, reaching out and shaking his hand.
“Marinette Dupain-Cheng, sir. Please don’t thank me. I couldn’t have left her in there. Not with him.”
“I’m Commissioner Gordon. You don’t sound like you’re from around here, Miss Dupain-Cheng.” Marinette shook her head as she stepped back from him.
“No, sir; I’m from Paris. My school is here on a field trip.” The commissioner nodded.
“You’re the school Bruce Wayne sponsored.” Marinette offered him a tired smile.
“Yes, sir.”
“Miss Marinette!”
Marinette turned in time to feel tiny arms wrap around her legs, and she looked down to see Mar’i smiling at her, despite the tears on her face. Marinette crouched down to her level, and blinked when Mar’i wrapped her arms around her neck; she was quick to return the hug, even as she saw ‘Auntie Barb’ walk over.
“Thank you for saving me, Miss Marinette! You were really cool!” Marinette’s smile was small as she squeezed the little girl tight.
“Oh little one, you don’t have to thank me. I would do it again and again if need be.” She hummed contemplatively, “Though I think I’ll talk to your mama or papa about that babysitter; who leaves a little girl alone in this city?”
‘Auntie Barb’ scoffed, “When Dick hears about that, he’s gonna lose it.”
“Mar’i!”
Marinette looked over in time to see the police part like the red sea, and she was treated to seeing nearly the entire Bat pack escort a dishevelled looking dark haired man through the crowd. Mar’i broke away from her to run to the new arrival.
“Daddy!”
And Marinette smiled as she stood up, watching the two hug. Her father was patting her down, holding her close by the head, obvious relief in his eyes. It was a beautifully heart wrenching thing.
“Miss.”
Marinette jumped, looking to the side to see Batman staring down at her. She yelped, flushing.
“Y-yes, sir?”
My god, this man was intimidating! Was he going to lecture her? Bar her from the country??! Oh no, what if-?!
....Why was he holding his hand out?
Marinette blinked stupidly before she took his hand and shook it.
“What you did tonight was very admirable. You put yourself at great personal risk to protect the life of a child you’d never met, and managed to thwart a kidnapping by one of the most dangerous men in the city. You have my respect.”
Marinette’s cheeks grew more red, “Please, I-I’d do it all again, you don’t have to say any of that. It was the right thing to do; anyone would’ve done it.” Batman simply shook his head.
“No, Miss Dupain-Cheng, they wouldn’t. I’d like to get a statement from you, if you’d allow it.”
“Before that...”
Marinette and Batman both looked over, and she was surprised to see Mar’i’s father next to her. He gave her a smile.
“I would like to thank you for rescuing my darling, Miss… Marinette, was it?” Marinette nodded, fiddling with her hands; her anxiety was starting to peak with this many people. “If anything had happened to Mar’i, I… I don’t know what I would’ve done. Thank you. From the absolute depths of my heart, thank you for protecting my little girl.”
Marinette’s face grew impossibly redder, “Y-you’re welcome! It was no problem! She’s a wonderful girl.” She smiled at Mar’i as she sat in her dad’s arms. Shifting the girl to one arm, he held out his free hand.
“My name is Dick Grayson. I hope to see you again, but for now, I need to get Mar’i home before her mother gets any more anxious.” Marinette nodded as they shook hands.
“If I may, mister Grayson?” The man smiled, and despite the situation, it was shockingly cheery.
“Please, call me Dick.”
‘Auntie Barb’ snorted in amusement somewhere next to Marinette, but she tuned it out.
“Please speak to whoever was babysitting Mar’i today; they left her behind.”
Dick stared at her for a moment, maybe processing, before he nodded, a steely look in his eyes.
“Thank you for telling me, Marinette. We’ll take care of it.” Marinette smiled, before she dug around in her purse, and pulled out one of the many cookies she had for Tikki; she handed it over to Mar’i who took it with a smile of her own.
“You be safe, ok?” Mar’i nodded, giving her a bigger smile.
“I will! You’re the best, Miss ‘Nette!” Smiling at the nickname, Marinette waved to the little girl as the police escorted the family away; she realized Batman was still next to her, and snapped her attention back to him.
“S-sorry, sir. I’ll give you that statement now.”
The man seemed less intimidating for some reason, like he was quietly amused.
“You’re surprisingly humble in the face of all this, Marinette.”
‘Calm down, calm down, you’re fine.’ She thought, gripping her bag.
“I didn’t do this for attention, sir. I’m… not exactly comfortable being in the spotlight like this.”
The masked man nodded in understanding, and once he was ready, Marinette began her retelling of what had happened.
Distinctly unaware of the several pairs of ears listening in.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Holy shit, you’re telling me pixie stick here threw a metal trash can at Joker?! Like a full on throw?!” Red Hood wasn’t buying it. The girl was so tiny, despite the toned muscles of her legs; she looked like she weighed ninety pounds soaking wet!
“That’s what the cameras in the park are showing, Hood.” He heard Red Robin typing away at something, before- “Holy shit.” Hood stood back by the police, flanked by Robin, and he turned his attention back to his comm line.
“What is it, Red?”
“That girl took them down with a fucking yo-yo, Hood. What the hell?”
The comm fell silent again before Jason heard all the air whoosh out of Tim over the line.
“Red? What now?”
“The… The audio. Hood, she was fully prepared to lay down her life for Mar’i. You can hear it in her voice; it’s like she’s a completely different person to who Bats is talking to.”
Damian’s eyes narrowed behind his mask as he frowned; he didn’t like the sound of that. Red Hood noticed the change in his brother’s demeanor, frowning to himself.
“What do you mean, Red?” He asked, and he heard Tim sigh.
“Look, just… wait till you get back, and I’ll show you. That girl’s good though; she’s got guts.”
A shrill call of the girls name had Jason turning, just in time to see a blonde girl tackle Marinette. She was speaking rapidly in French, checking her friend over thoroughly before she turned sharp eyes on Batman. Jason couldn’t help but grin as he watched Bruce’s eyes widen behind the mask, his eyebrows raising a little as the blonde started on a tirade.
Red Hood snickered, “Now this is funny.” He watched his father get berated by the blonde before she started guiding Marinette away; the poor dark haired girl was red all the way to her ears in embarrassment.
“Find something funny, Hood?” Jason looked at Batman as he walked over, and wished his old man could see the shit eating grin on his face.
“Course I did. It’s not everyday I get to watch a teenager yell at you.”  Next to him, Robin snorted. Hood and Robin waited until Bats had given Gordon the girl’s statement before the three of them left as one.
They met on a nearby rooftop, far enough away from the scene to be able to talk freely. Batman turned his comm back on, and pinched the bridge of his nose.
“Red, what do you have on her?” There was a sigh over the line.
“Marinette Dupain-Cheng, 17, nearly 18; she’s in her last year of lycée at Francoise Dupont in Paris. She’s the one who put together the essay that won her school the trip to Gotham. Her parents own a bakery, but her mother has a vast history in martial arts it looks like. Her grades are excellent, and I’ve found records of literally so many charities I’m not gonna bother listing them.” Bruce could almost hear Tim shrug, “She’s clean, Bats.”
Damian rolled his eyes, “You said she took them down with a yo-yo, Red. That’s not a standard weapon.”
“There’s records of her enrolling in gymnastics several years back; it’s probably a skill she picked up back then; maybe from the ribbon dancing? I’ll see if I can find anything else.”
“Red, just remember,” Everyone paused at the tone of Bruce’s voice, “This is not a malicious search; she saved Mar’i’s life; I don’t want to make problems for the girl.”
“Got it, Bats.”
Batman turned to Robin, and Damian sighed.
“Let me guess, stake out her hotel, make sure she stays safe?”
Batman nodded, “She managed to stall Joker and his goons long enough for us to get there, and she put her life on the line for Mar’i. The story’s already broke the news, along with her face and name. Harley and Ivy won’t give us any problems with this, but Joker has been working on something with Scarecrow for the last couple of months, and I don’t think he’s going to appreciate the hiccup in their plan.” Damian sighed, while Jason cackled, elbowing him in the ribs.
“Oh wah, Demon spawn, you get to go protect a cute girl for awhile; who knows, maybe you’ll get a date.”
Tim snorted over the comm line before he started laughing, and Damian flushed, his cheeks pinkening a bit.
“Go die, Hood.”
“Already did that, thanks, but no.”
With one last glare sent Jason’s way, Robin walked over to the edge of the building, preparing to make his way back to the hotel they’d seen the girl enter; then Jason just had to speak again.
“Oh yeah, did you see she was wearing your merch?”
Father probably wouldn’t let him kill Jason, right?
….
It didn’t stop him from trying.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Oh my god, Mari, you made it onto the news!” Chloe laughed as she lowered the volume on the broadcast. The cameraman had gotten a good shot of when Marinette had sprinted out of the park, and as she was speaking to the various people who had come up to her; though they mostly replayed her shaking Batman’s hand as he spoke to her.
“Tonight, the attempted kidnapping of Bruce Wayne’s granddaughter was thwarted by a passing teenager from Paris by the name of Marinette Dupain-Cheng, who managed to stall the Joker until Batman could arrive, while protecting miss Mar’i Grayson. This is not the first time the Joker has gone after a member of the Wayne family…”
Marinette groaned and flopped on the couch, covering her eyes with her hands.
“God, turn it off please, Chlo. It was mortifying explaining this to Mme. Bustier without having to hear more of it.” Chloe rolled her eyes, but turned it off anyway. They were lounging in the shared space of their suite, curtains thrown wide to provide a good view of the skyline as the sun set. Tikki, Pollen, and Kaalki were all sitting on the coffee table munching on their respective treats. Tikki flew up, hovering over Marinette where she lay on the couch.
“You were amazing Marinette! I was blown away!” Kaalki nodded as she swallowed a sugar cube, and then her face widened into a grin.
“That’s right, Mari! Your civilian side is super strong just like Ladybug is!” Marinette moved her hands, offering both kwami a smile.
“Thanks you two.” Chloe rolled her eyes, and plopped harshly on the couch next to Marinette.
“I’m glad you’re ok, Mari-bear. I wish I could’ve seen you in action.”
Marinette thought back to how she felt when she heard the Joker laugh, when he was pointing that gun at her. Knowing that without her, Mar’i could be killed, or worse yet.
“Chloe, I’m sorry, but I’m… I’m so glad you weren’t there.” She wasn’t going to cry again, damnit, she was nearly eighteen, but she still felt her throat close up at the force of her emotions, “The Joker is nothing like Hawkmoth, Chlo; he’s not even like the akuma we deal with. He’s in a category far removed from us. I got in a lucky shot because he hesitated.”
Chloe raised an eyebrow, and turned herself on the couch so she was facing Marinette, “What do you mean, Mari?”
Mari swallowed as she sat up, turning herself to the side so she was mostly facing Chloe as well.
“He… He asked me if I was so willing to die for her. And I didn’t even hesitate. I think it threw him off, because he just stared at me; it gave me the opening I needed to use my yo-yo.” She was starting to tremble, Chloe noticed, “I… I was so scared, Chloe. He was after that little girl. I couldn’t let him get his hands on her, I’ve heard about the things he’s done, and I couldn’t let that happen to a child.”
Chloe reached over, and gripped Marinette’s hand in hers, a look of concern on her face.
“That’s not all of it though... is it?”
Marinette shook her head, “I… I was so ready, Chloe; to accept that I was going to die. I forgot that I wanted to live until I saw that opening.” Marinette soon found herself buried in the cloth of Chloe’s sleep top, and she felt the hugs of the three kwamis too.
“Take a deep breath, Mari. You’re here. You lived, and so did the little girl. You did amazing, but not even you can be strong all the time. You can be upset while you’re here, Hawkmoth can’t get us.” Chloe tightened her hold on the girl as she finally cried her heart out; she’d been fighting it so much, for so many years. There was just... so much she’d repressed.
And Chloe held her through all of it.
~~~~~~~~~
Robin was many things. To his brothers, a nuisance, demon spawn Jason called him; to Gotham, he was the stoic boy wonder, both in costume and out. Damian Wayne was generally a cold young man, uncaring for most of the people outside of his own family for a long time. Yes, he cared about the innocents of Gotham as Robin, but as Damian? That was more difficult.
Yet as he sat concealed on the roof across from this girl’s - Marinette’s - hotel room, he felt an odd kind of weight settle in his gut. He couldn’t really read lips or hear anything from this distance, but he could tell she was crying. For some reason, it discomfited him. It was like a longing he'd never felt before, and it was very unusual for him.
And that wasn’t even mentioning the three strange creatures that were flying about the room.
This girl was… odd. Tim had said she was nearly eighteen, so she wasn’t much younger than him, but she was so… expressive. When she’d been talking to Batman, she’d clearly been anxious, but Damian had noticed her constantly sneaking glances towards Mar’i; like she was taking precautions. The girl obviously knew how to fight, as she’d been able to take down Joker’s thugs without taking a single hit.
That was honestly the weirdest part, he thought.
She’d come out without a scratch on her or Mar’i, both of them completely unscathed.
And then Tim had sent him the video he’d grabbed from the cameras, and Damian still couldn’t get it out of his head.
“She’s got some fight in her then! How interesting! And a foreigner too? So fearless!” Marinette let the yo-yo swing from her hand, swinging next to her leg, as he pointed the gun at her. She felt Mar’i grip her pants tighter with a small gasp. Joker’s grin grew, “But are you so willing to die for her?”
Marinette snarled, “Of course I am!”
When Tim had said it was like she was two different people, he hadn’t been kidding; and though at first, Damian had felt suspicious, now that he was observing her more naturally, it was rather obvious that the young woman had some self esteem issues. He’d seen the confidence in her during the video, but around so many people, it had gone out as easily as a candle. Which honestly, was a true shame.
Damian watched as another girl was let into the room by the blonde; this one had short, cropped pink hair. She looked like she’d get along with Beast Boy pretty well, a thought that made him grimace. The pink one crouched in front of Marinette, and even as far away as he was, he could see the concern on her face as her friends talked her through what he guessed may be a panic attack; but he had noticed that once the new girl had come, the three floating… things had scampered away, and out of sight. So she was keeping secrets then.
He sat there for a couple hours, watching the three girls as they spoke, and finally Marinette calmed down. He was just about to settle in for more observations when he noticed a shadow drop onto Marinette’s side of the balcony; before he could move though, he heard another body land behind him, and Damian came up swinging.
“Whoa there, demon spawn, it’s just us.” Jason dodged his hit gracefully, and Damian snarled.
“Damnit, Hood, don’t sneak up on me. And who’s on her balcony?” Jason sat on the edge of the building Damian had once occupied, and nodded towards the hotel.
“Don’t worry, it’s just Red. He’s setting up a listening device since we knew you wouldn’t be able to hear anything; Grayson is wanting us to take no chances with her safety.” Damian couldn’t fault his older brother’s logic; the girl had saved his daughter. Soon, Red Robin landed beside them, and took up a seat, pulling a speaker from his belt. Damian raised an eyebrow.
“Why the listening device now?” Tim shrugged, accepting the bag of chips Jason handed him.
“Bruce wanted to know if she’d tell anyone how she took the Joker down. We found a couple leads, but we don’t wanna push her too far.” Damian thought back to the three creatures he’d witnessed, but decided that was not his business to share. Besides, if his brothers lingered long enough, they’d see them themselves. So with a sigh, Damian sat back down next to Red Robin, and grabbed a handful of chips.
And they listened.
“I CANNOT BELIEVE that asshole!” Alix shouted as she paced the floor. She whirled back to face Chloe, who had one of her arms around Marinette as the girl leaned into her, “You’re telling me Agreste and you dated for two FUCKING YEARS and he wouldn’t even let anyone know!!? What the FUCK!” Marinette nodded, while Chloe frowned.
“Keep your voice down, Alix, we’re not telling you so you can tell the whole hotel.” Chloe said while she rubbed Mari’s arm in comfort. Marinette sighed, looking up at Alix.
“He… He didn’t want anyone to know because his father had told him to make sure he kept Lila happy in class. Chloe knew, she was the only one I told. He-It-I mean, it was fine for awhile-.” Alix crouched in front of Marinette’s knees, and took hold of her hands, giving her a compassionate, but serious look.
“Marinette, no,” She said, “It’s not fine. For two years, he let Lila hang off of him, kiss him, and generally torture you during school, only to, what? Come and comfort you afterwards?” Hesitantly, Marinette nodded, and Alix swore steam was going to come out of her ears. “Marinette, when someone loves you, they love you all the time, not just when it’s convenient for them.” Alix managed a rueful smile, “It’s too bad you’re straight, or I’d totally take you out and show you how you deserve to be treated.” It worked, and Alix smiled as Marinette laughed, rubbing at her eyes. Chloe scoffed.
“Get in line, Alix; if any woman is taking my Mari-bear out, it’ll be me, thank you.” Alix gave her a grin, winking at the blonde and Chloe laughed.
“You can come too, Chlo. We’ll take our girl out and treat her special.” Alix looked back at Mari who was still laughing, and Alix softened a bit, “I know there are things you still can’t tell me, DC, and that’s ok. I’ve nearly got Kim and Max seeing reason finally. It’s gotten easier now that I just google whatever Lila says, and show it to them.” Her grin was bitter as she shook her smartphone for emphasis, “I’m sorry for how everyone’s been treating you these last few years. It’s like they’re just letting themselves be blinded by that little skank.” Alix wouldn’t lie, she was furious with the rest of their class for just letting these things happen; it was a testament to how exhausted Mari was that she didn’t even reprimand Alix on her words.
Marinette squeezed Alix’s hands, and she looked up at her. Marinette gave her a smile.
“Thank you Alix, but you don’t have to, you know. We’re almost done with school, and then we’ll be off to university. It doesn’t matter that much anymore.” Alix frowned.
“Marinette, you deserve to have the truth known. I don’t really care if they wanted to go their whole lives believing that witch, but it’s hurting you. You were always there for us, hell, you still keep spare clothes for all of them in case they need them! You deserve to have your good name cleared.”
Marinette smiled, but it was sad, and Alix wanted to rage against the world at the sight of it; her friend deserved nothing but the best, and she had been treated so poorly for so long. Alix had learned it didn’t matter if you spoke out, told Lila and Alya what they were doing was wrong; telling Madame Bustier didn’t do anything. Everyone just ignored it, unless they were actively participating.
“Alix, I have you and Chloe, and yeah, it would be nice to be friends with Kim and Max again; but I’m used to this by now. It’s… It’s been 4 years, and while the first one was… rocky, to say the least…” Marinette shared a grimace with Chloe, whose frown deepened at the memory, before she looked back at Alix, “I’ve gotten stronger for it. And if it hadn’t been for Lila, Chloe and I may never have become such good friends, and for that alone, I’m grateful to her.”
Alix grit her teeth as tears welled in her eyes, “But Mari! Alya has hit you! Adrien did nothing! They’ve ruined your sketchbooks, trashed your site, and tried to sabotage your university applications! How could you possibly be ok with any of that?!” Alix was surprised when Marinette’s eyes narrowed.
“I’m not, Alix. It hurt every single time. But what’s done is done, there’s no changing that, and there’s no going back. I can only keep moving forward.” Marinette sighed, giving her a pleased smile, “And I’m not alone, I never am. I have two of the most amazing, trustworthy friends I could ever have at my side, and an invitation to see one of Gotham’s most outstanding universities. Things haven’t been good, or fun, but they won’t stay that way.”
Alix stared at her in shock, and the tears rolled down her face while she hung her head, “We don’t deserve you, Marinette… I’m sorry.” Marinette pulled her up to the couch, and pulled her closer to herself and Chloe.
“Don’t be sorry, Alix. You and Chloe have stuck with me through it all; you’ve spoken out against Lila to defend me countless times. You don’t have anything to apologize for.”
Next to her, Chloe snorted, “Except for that t shirt, oh my god, where did you even find that horrendous thing?” Alix laughed, and gave Chloe the finger, which caused the blonde to huff.
“Rude.” But Chloe was smiling, and Marinette finally felt peace settle in her heart. Soon, she’d be gone from Lila for good, and everything would be nothing more than just a distant memory. She was fine; she was in a much better place than she used to be, even with her small slip up tonight in the park.
They were going to be ok.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I don’t know french, what are they saying?”
Damian had a scowl on his face as they listened, but Jason had noticed how Tim had frozen; his two brothers were the ones who spoke french, damnit, why weren’t they translating? Finally Tim moved, and he buried his face in his hands.
“We shouldn’t have heard this…” Tim said softly, and now Hood was looking between the hotel, and Red Robin in concern. With a sigh, Tim raised his head, staring at the girls in the hotel room who were laughing now. “From what I can infer based on their conversation, Marinette is being bullied, and ignored by most of her class. Based on what these girls are saying, two girls, Lila and Alya, have been terrorizing her in class for - four years, I think they said? Not even her boyfriend would let anyone know they were dating, and he just stood by when this Alya girl hit her.”
Damian’s scowl deepened, and his hands clenched at his side, but Tim wasn’t done.
“And he’d go and comfort her after school, but the only one who knew is the blonde one there, Chloe. Apparently he’d let this Lila girl hang on him during school, and kiss him and junk. These girls have shredded her sketchbooks, trashed her site - whatever that means-, and tried to sabotage her university applications.”
Jason whistled low, “Damn, that’s harsh.” Hood frowned as he looked at the girls having a good time despite the heavy conversation they’d just had. She didn’t seem like the type of girl who deserved all that animosity. “How are we gonna help then, Red?”
The three of them paused as their comms crackled to life, and Bruce’s voice came over the line.
“I’ll take care of it. Come on home; Nightwing will take watch the rest of the night.” Damian watched as Chloe whacked Alix with one of the couch cushions, and an all out war broke out between the girls.
Next to him, Tim sighed, “Got it, Bats. Coming home.”
Jason turned first, and Tim lingered for a moment longer, but Damian was still staring at the girl. She was laughing as she beat her friend over the head with a pillow, the pink one - Alix - retaliating instantly. She looked… happy.
“Robin? You coming?” Damian nodded, and finally he turned away.
“Yeah, let’s go.”

@uGH_WHYME
OH MY GOD GUYS did you see the girl on the news???                                Looks like there could be a new Wayne! #onlyinGotham
#darkhair #blueeyes #mustbeaWayne #gothamites
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Holy shit, and that is chapter one y’all! Just a quick rundown on a couple things. Chloe and Alix are gonna be hella gay, and I can’t wait for you guys to find out who their GFs are gonna be >:3 It’s gonna be GREAT. There will be some minor Adrien bashing, but he will ultimately learn from his fuck ups; mostly cause I love my dumb ass boy, but BOI is he dumb sometimes. Alya bashing will hopefully be minimal cause I DO love her to death.
Also, Chloe is totally getting/got the redemption she deserved GDI. Zagg can shove that S3 finale right where the sun don’t shine. Oh, did I mention there will be salt??? Like TONS OF SALT probably. Also, I probably won’t post super often on tumblr; I’m primarily use Ao3, so things may end up going up faster over there.
Hope you guys liked it! <3
“Exorcizamus te-,” Sam’s voice rang out behind you, Dean’s face smugly twisting with vindication.
“Omnis immundus spiritus,” you continued, whispering in disbelief beneath your breath. That made Sam stutter briefly as your eyes went black against the chant. You reached out to stroke Dean’s face, but he ducked out of your reach, swatting your new vessel’s hairy arm away.
“omnis satanica potestas, omnis incursion infernalis adversarii,” Sam spoke louder as he stepped closer.
“Figures.” You sighed dramatically before squaring your feet, preparing for another vacancy. “Good luck and take care of our girl,” you said directly to Dean’s stunned face, ignoring Sam’s looming sneer. You jumped from Alan’s body and out through the bathroom window out to the limitless night sky.
*^*
“What the hell was that about?!” Dean shuttered against the uncomfortableness, catching the guy in front of him before he hit his head on small table. Alan’s eyes blazed open, panic and confusion escaping in gulps and off-putting moans. “Hey, man it’s going to be okay. We gotcha, just breathe.” Though still visibly annoyed Dean’s tone seemed to soothe the recently unpossessed man to functionally acceptable levels.
“What the hell, who was she?!” Alan glared at Dean like he had kicked a puppy.
“That was a demon,” Sam sat on the table top and began to give the spiel.
“Why was she was obsessed with you?! Her mind was filled with you doing all sorts of awful things, man.” Alan started to get scared again as he tried to reason with the memories of his possessor and the reality in front of him.
Dean cocked his head and met the accusations with a rueful squint. “Forget about that bitch, demons mess with your mind. Make you see things and worse. I think it’s time you go home, maybe get drunk and sleep this whole night off, like a nightmare, mhmm?”
Alan left on shaky feet, the world wider and darker than he had ever imagined. Meanwhile, Sam and Dean carefully moved CC back to their room, playing drunk themselves as to why they were carrying an unconscious woman into their hotel room. After securing the doors and windows, they were able to think about their next steps.
“Where’d you think it went?” Sam was watching Dean carefully, unsure of how much it was run-of-the-mill demonic manipulation and how much of the bravado was sincere.
“How the hell should I know? Did you see that, man, it tried to put the moves on me,” Dean scrunched his face before stepping back to let Sam check on CC himself.
“Yeah, pretty clingy, for a demon,” Sam acknowledged offhandedly as he checked CC’s eyes, not sure what he was looking for beyond reaction to light, which he hoped was normal. She was breathing and her heartbeat was steady. “Think Cas can swing a visit or are we really going to send you back in?”
Dean stared at Sam like he had something on his face. “What?”
“Yeah, that came out wrong.”
^*^
The road was endless and smooth, the slight breeze swaying the massive vehicle enough to keep up the illusion. The trucker played a slightly staticky station, humming along at random. She knew he would have had a GPS or the CB going if he was real, but he was just another ferryman. If everything was so obvious, why couldn’t she work out what decision she had to make? Chloe huffed, shifting against the seat belt as the heat waves rose before them in wilted warning.
“You know you ought to have just stayed home, don’t ya?”
She closed her eyes against the accusation, however gentle. “Nothing back there has to do with what’s happening to me now.”
“Well, there’s nothing out here for you that’s gonna help until you know the question.”
“Yeah, well, maybe you could just tell me and save the return trip?” CC didn’t want to be rude, it was a free ride and he had been nothing but kind. Even if he kept changing faces, Bobby, Rufus, Roger, Reynolds, Ellen, and now it was Pastor Jim. It was the faces that didn’t turn up that made her uneasy, her mother, the other elders, John even. The one face she had never seen that she longed for above all others.
“Can’t tell you something you already know.”
“If I wanted to answer a riddle, I would have found a bridge,” CC grumbled, rolling the heavy crank in the door, needing to stick her head in a wind tunnel for the sheer mindless pleasure for a few minutes. She let her eyes tear and her hair trail behind her to inevitable knots. The sun was warm, and the air dried the trails of saline as fast as they formed. The hiss of brakes and the sudden pull of gravity broke through her revelry. She fell suddenly against her chest strap. Confused, she looked back to see the driver’s side door hanging open. An ear-piercing screech followed by a jarring thud forced her to see what her guide was up to. The entire trailer had been unhinged, whatever load left precariously angled against the blacktop.
“What’d you do that for?!”
Geoff’s mischievous smile greeted her, his eyebrows waggling conspiratorially. He swung back into the seat and started the engine, spinning the unweighted cab deftly on its remaining ten wheels. “Better?”
“We’ll see.” Chloe held onto the handle above her head, a hopeful glimmer spread through her.
^*^
Dean didn’t know what he had expected, but the potion still tasted like the wrong end of a junkyard dog. He sucked it back as Sam watched with a look of sheer disgust on his dumb face. Dean inhaled the musty motel room air and coughed, the taste burned, spreading through his chest. He didn’t know why exactly, but he dropped down beside CC’s body, and threaded his hand through her cool fingers. Before he could finish listening to Sam’s instructions, Dean drifted away.
He awoke in the passenger seat of the Impala, parked at an awkward angle in a forgotten, yet familiar driveway.
He knew he was younger, by the easy roll of his shoulders and the old leather jacket stuck with sweat to his face, while bunched against the window. The Mark blatantly missing from his forearm as he brushed down his sleep-ruffled hair, he checked his face in the sideview mirror. For a second, he thought he saw a gangly Sam in the backseat, but as soon as he turned around, he realized he was alone. Good, Sammy should be watching out for them in case the demon returned, not jumping headfirst into CC’s head. He felt bad enough about doing it without her knowledge, even if invading privacy was par for the course of desperate times.
Dean climbed out of the car, closing the door with a resounding clunk. He walked up to the old cast iron framed porch. The inside door swung open before Dean could knock, his hand held precariously in the air as he breathed out his greeting, “Uh, hi.”
“Go home, Dean.” Old Man Collins was exactly like he was the last time Dean saw him, in a word, dead. The entire right side of his face was peeled off, he remembered the chunks the wendigo had slashed from the ancient hunter before they had found him. Luckily for the situation at hand, his clothing was obscuring the more grotesque wounds. “This isn’t about you, boy.”
“Sir, I, uh,” Dean opened the screen door and met Chloe’s grandfather’s deep-set eyes. “Look, I need to find her, she got possessed on my watch and I need to make sure she is okay. I fucked up, bad and its on me to fix it.”
“Save your guilty sob story, son. That thing had its sights on you before CC showed up, but it’s not why Chloe’s gone. Not really.”
Dean’s mouth froze open, brow pinched in confusion. “Okay? But I need to know that CC is going to wake up.”
“She’ll live.”
“Forgive me, but that’s not too reassuring.”
The old man walked away, back into the house and settled in the recliner near the half wall between the living room and the kitchen. Dean followed, looking around as if someone else would appear at any moment. “Sit down, since you can’t bother to listen to reason, at least relax.”
The television was on, but the sound was off, an outdoor channel with fly fishing tips flickered on the old console set. They sat in uncomfortable silence before Dean stood suddenly. “Do you know when she’ll be back or, do I need to hop in the car and track her down?”
“She’s on her way now, but you’re going to leave before she gets here. She has enough things she needs to answer to without you mucking it up.”
“But I can help.”
The old Cheyenne man stood to size up the spunky upstart hunter. “You really can’t. You know I’m not Old Man Collins, right?”
Dean paused, nodding slowly. “You’re part of Chloe’s subconscious.”
“Yeah, the logical, bullshit free part. So, take that shiny black car and get. Before I start listing the reasons why you are no longer welcome in my home.”
“But, Cease and me–,” Dean gestured awkwardly then fumbled for words, the more he thought and spoke, the more he realized the apparition before him was right. Amused acknowledgement sparkled in the man’s dark eyes as Dean’s sheepishness stilled his tongue. “Is she going to wake up?
“That’s up to her, but she’ll live, neither Hell nor Holy water can snuff her out so easily.”
The walls shook and the sun set in a blaze as if in time-lapse, the dark room groaned as Dean caught himself on a lamp stand. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“It’s not for you to know. Now, go. She can’t face what’s in the woods until you’re gone.” Dean felt lightheaded, he struggled to hold himself upright. Old Man Collins approached him, patting him firmly on the back. “Goodbye, Dean.”
“No, wait, Mr. Collins, please–,” Dean sat up, wrenching CC’s arm up as he turned to face the dream in which he was no longer welcome.
“Dean?” Sam’s voice and face were suddenly close as Dean squinted into the dim morning light.
“Yeah, I’m good,” Dean groaned, untangling CC’s hand from his before kicking his legs off the side of the bed.
“What happened?”
“I got kicked out. Couldn’t even get to her.”
“By whom?”
“Her grandad.” Dean shrugged. “Well, the stubborn ass part of her brain that showed itself as her grandad.”
“Huh.” Sam chewed on the information.
“Yeah, well, good news? She’s fine, physically, apparently. So, what’d you say we head home? Get her set up in safety while we wait for her to come to?”
Sam nodded, watching Dean’s disappointment bury itself behind action and planning. They carefully laid her in the backseat, consequently, it was still early enough for them not to draw any concern from other guests. Sam paid for both rooms, while Dean stopped to gas up her truck. Simple, easy tasks, busy work to be done as the Mark made its renewed presence known, tingling along his skin.
Denver, CO
Slipping back into your dissipated form was overwhelming, especially as you traveled farther away. You tested your limits, spiraling as fast as you could go, paying little mind to direction or destination. Experiencing the world as a raging cloud of damnation meant you sensed emotions and actions instead of seeing them. You bee-lined toward a city, with vessels to spare and fear and anger pulling you from your own thoughts. Thoughts of the ultimate rejection, and the look on Dean’s face as he let Sam’s words sweep you into the dust bin. Like you were nothing, or nothing more than the kill of the week.
If you had a gut, it would have rolled with your swift descent.
In the formlessness, with the vast sea of humans littered beneath you, every molecule of your being seemed to hum. Emotions and justifications rushing through your thoughts as you streaked against the heavy spring air. You were bombarded with their feelings like sound vibrations, rattling from an untested speaker system. When you found a corner where a pair of people sat, drenched in fear and lust, you landed at last.
The man was buzzed, but you weren’t sure if it was the gin or the pain killers for his back that were making everything fuzzy. They were on a bench, waiting for a bus. The African American woman sitting on the furthest edge away from the portly white man, who had clearly been making her uncomfortable. Once you got your bearings, you turned to her and smiled. “Don’t worry, Miss, he’s going to be out of commission for a while.”
She muffled a shriek and called on her savior as you stood and sauntered down the street.
Humboldt Hotel
Cleveland, OH
Dean’s body pulsed with purpose, defined by the certainty of his mission and its now tangible completion. If he could just keep Sam from getting in the way; it would be clean and quick. God help him, Dean’s brother always questioned direct orders; Dean tried to come off as practical, cautious. Meanwhile he was jonesing for the fight. The elevator seemed to take forever, the Penthouse unrestricted to even the likes of him, which set his hunter’s logic from four to twelve in the time it took for him to breach the top floor.
Crowley was scared, but he wasn’t stupid. The minion went down easy, almost too fast for him to enjoy it. Before Dean could continue his search, she was there. The Ginger Bitch herself, red lipped and gloating. He couldn’t wait to finish this, and the tug of a not-so-distant strand of memory told him that even this demon couldn’t hold him for long. The lethal combination of the Mark and the Blade only increased his confidence. The Knight that would be Queen was his to finish, if he could just get his ass off of this wall.
Abaddon wasn’t fucking around either, she knew he was her biggest threat despite her haughty sass. She didn’t even hesitate to throw everything she had at him. As the First Blade slipped through his fingers, Dean’s resolve stuttered, but the pull from the Mark centered him, honing the rage and blood lust to draw the weapon back into his grasp. At the moment of reconnection, Dean knew she had reached the bottom of the barrel, her powers no longer strong enough to contain him.
He didn’t register Sam’s entrance, or Crowley’s astonishment, he narrowed his eyes and stalked toward his prey. It was almost sad how easy it was now, the mangled bone slicing into her voluptuous vessel, impossibly smooth and satisfying. Once he had a taste, he needed more. Abaddon’s cries a siren’s call. Dean hacked into the demon, even as the flashes of her essence faded. The blood smattering his face and the floor, it’s warmth delicious, but the hunger never abated. It was only Sam’s voice breaking through the fog that got Dean to look beyond the corpse before him and his need to destroy.
The tunnel vision righted, and Dean was himself, or the new version of himself, the marked and armed version. Letting Crowley talk his way out of their demands, Dean knew that his list of potential kills held few as deserving as the King of Hell. But a Winchester didn’t back out on a deal and Crowley had done right by them, until CC’s face floated through his thoughts. He never even asked whose stooge had made a vegetable of her. Unfounded retaliation sounded perfectly acceptable now. The calm returned, because Dean would find the demon and he would take his time.
LONG BEACH, Calif. — Her hair pokes out of the back of her sky blue helmet and flaps like a cape as she flies around in circles. Poised confidently on her skateboard — knees slightly bent, infectious smile engaged — she gains speed and fearlessly attacks the bowl. Sky Brown is not here to take it easy, and she doesn’t have time to wait behind the older, bigger skateboarders.
She’s 10 years old, about the size of two skateboards stacked end to end and has a big mission on tap.
“I want to go to the Olympics,” she says. “I want to be the youngest one out there and show the girls it doesn’t matter how big you are or how small you are. You can do anything.”
Sky is a member of Great Britain’s national team, hoping to be among the world’s best athletes who gather in Tokyo next summer when skateboarding makes its Olympic debut at the 2020 Games. No one who has seen her on a skateboard would dare rule her out. Her outsize talent and charisma have made her one of the most popular and intriguing skateboarders — even if she’s just now wrapping up fifth grade.
She has several sponsors, a giant social media following and several viral videos to her credit. She’s a prodigy of sorts on a skateboard but also has made waves in surfing. Last year she even won “Dancing with the Stars: Juniors,” and she says there’s a purpose behind everything she does.
“If they watch me skate or do this trick, they’ll think maybe they can do it, too,” she says. “That’s why I want to do the Olympics — to inspire those kids who think they can’t do it."
Sky caused a stir when Great Britain put her on its national skateboarding team this spring, but she has since shown that she’s no novelty act. She took first in the U.K. national skateboarding championships in April. At last week’s Dew Tour stop in Long Beach, the first Olympic qualifier in the United States, Sky was the youngest skater in the field. She posted the highest score in the qualifying round of the park event and was third after the quarterfinals, though she failed to advance to the finals.
Sky commands attention whenever she’s on her board. She doesn’t generate the power of her competitors, who are often more than twice her age, but she can be every bit as aggressive, smiling almost the entire time.
“To be able to create the speed and get the height she’s getting with the weight she’s got — she’s like a feather — you almost think it’s impossible,” says Lucy Adams, the chair of Skateboard England and Skateboard GB.
From the beginning
Sky and her tight knit family — parents Stu and Mieko Brown and brother Ocean — split their time between Southern California and Japan, where Sky was born and first learned to skate.
“I started skateboarding when I was 3 or 4,” she explains, “but I’ve been playing with it since I was zero, kind of.
“It was always my favorite toy,” she continues. “I’d just always want to play with it.”
She would watch her dad and friends skate and then study YouTube videos. She wasn’t content to be simply balancing or slowly rolling. She hit the backyard ramp with her dad and was a natural, performing kick turns on the ramp and kick flips with her board.
Stu Brown uploaded some footage of 5-year-old Sky onto Facebook. The clip bounced around and soon amassed a few million views. Sponsors and event organizers started noticing. Invitations and opportunities started piling up.
She did her first local contest at 7 and the next year became the youngest girl to compete in the Vans U.S. Open Pro Series. The family is selective about what to take on and says it has had to turn down many opportunities.
The Browns spend at least half the year living in Miyazaki, a city in the southern part of Japan known for its surfing conditions but lacking in skate culture.
“I feel like I’m the only girl skating sometimes,” she says.
They often travel around to skateboard, and the family has been spending more and more time in Southern California. Stu says he and his wife are careful about putting too much on their children’s plates — 7-year-old Ocean also skates and surfs — and they want to make sure Sky remains a kid first, a skater second.
“She’s so self-motivated. We would never want to push her, but she’s the one pulling us in all these directions,” he says. “She just loves skating. How do you stop her from doing something she loves?”
A young Olympic dream
Sky met Adams, a British pro, in 2016 at a competition in the United Kingdom. The two struck up a friendship and stayed in touch. A few months later, skateboarding was formally added to the program for the 2020 Tokyo Games, and Adams later would take a position with the Great Britain national skateboarding team.
“I was like, ‘Skateboarding’s in the Olympics?’ ” Sky recalls. “Everyone was like, ‘You don’t know what the Olympics are?’ ”
As Sky learned more, she became increasingly excited. The Olympics offer a big platform, and she thought girls all around the globe might see her and want to pick up a skateboard. But she will be just 12 years old during the Tokyo Games, which her parents felt was too young. Maybe in 2024, they told her, when she will be 16.
“But I was like, ‘Please, please, please!’ ” she recalls.
Adams and Sky swapped social media messages and chatted on WhatsApp. Sky couldn’t shake the Olympic dream, and Adams started entertaining the possibility, too, excited by the impact Sky could have. Because Sky’s father was born in England, the young skater could compete for Japan or Great Britain in international competition.
“I knew that Sky would be inspirational, and she’d help us raise the participation of skateboarding in this country, especially among females,” Adams says.
The governing body for most every other Olympic sport has age restrictions that prevent athletes as young as Sky from taking part in Olympic competition. Skateboarding does not.
"The idea is if a skater can earn enough points and do well enough in competition to qualify to participate in the Olympic Games, you shouldn’t eliminate their chance to participate based on how old they are,” said Josh Friedberg, the chief executive of USA Skateboarding.
Even though Sky was named to Great Britain’s national team, she’s not guaranteed a spot in the Olympics. She has to accumulate points at competitions over the next year and show that she’s among the most competitive park skaters, regardless of age.
Even if she makes it to Tokyo, winning a medal would be a stretch, but the history books would take notice. It’s not often someone as young as Sky reaches the Olympics. Inge Sorensen won a bronze medal in swimming for Denmark as a 12-year-old at the 1936 Olympics. Italy’s gymnastics team in 1928 had competitors who were 11 and 12. The youngest Olympian ever was Greek gymnast Dimitrios Loundras, who was all of 10 years old for the 1896 Games.
Over the years, teens have left their marks on the Games, particularly in sports such as gymnastics and snowboarding. More recently, snowboarder Chloe Kim won two gold medals as a 17-year-old at the PyeongChang Games, and swimmer Katie Ledecky was 15 when she won her first gold medal at 2012 London Games.
‘Like a playground for me’
With the help of her mom, Sky is active on a social media, an important link to skateboarding fans but also a vital vehicle for her sponsors. Sky now has more than 375,000 Instagram followers. Her videos on the platform can top 100,000 likes. She shares her travels, training and exploits. After a skating mishap this month, she captioned one midair photo: “a Broken wing, will NOT stop me Flying!!”
Sky had been skating at a school in Oceanside, Calif., where she was trying a kick flip off some stairs. A bad landing sent her tumbling on her arm.
“It hurt really bad,” she says, “but I kept skating after.”
The pain didn’t subside, and doctors explained that she had fractured a bone, and Sky was outfitted for a pink cast that goes the length of her right arm. The injury has kept her from surfing, which meant more time to spend on her skateboard. Another tumble resulted in her cracking the cast, which is now reinforced with some tape.
Despite the injury, she insisted on competing in this month’s Dew Tour event. “It would’ve hurt her so much more to miss out,” her father says.
Sky skates well beyond her age, but there are competitors who are able to go higher and faster and execute tricks that Sky’s not ready for. It doesn’t stop her from trying, and in the coming years, she will be able to create more speed, more power and more air when she launches skyward.
During last week’s competition, Sky was limited by the broken arm but still skated with a smile.
“Skateboarding is like my happy place,” she says. “It’s like a playground for me.”
She found her parents immediately after popping out of the bowl. During practice sessions, Stu Brown would chat with her between runs, sometimes lovingly poking her nose or wrapping Sky in his arms.
“We always come back to: If this isn’t fun, we shouldn’t be doing it,” her father says. “If she’s not happy, we’ll stop it. But as long as she enjoys the journey, we’re going to support her. We love what we have as a family. Everything works right now. I know the Olympics are huge, but if there’s a time where it’s not working, we can just walk away.”
okay after that beautiful yet completely heartbreaking one shot I need the fluffiest one with prompt 69 pls
The prompt was: “We are not going to steal someone’s dog.”
Hopefully this was fluffy enough!! Sorry for breaking your heart. 💕
fools rushing in
Summary: Beca and Chloe love and support their five-year-old son through everything he does. Almost everything.
Word count: 1966
Beca likes to think she has grown more perceptive over time. A product of dating Chloe, proposing to Chloe, marrying Chloe, and then finally having a child with the love of her life. All of that has definitely amounted to an increased sense of awareness as to when the people she loves are distressed or in pain.
Chloe tells her that maybe it’s because she’s a genuinely kind human being and that she’s grown up a lot over the years.
They’ve both adapted to parenthood well despite Beca’s original hesitations about having children. She can’t imagine being anywhere else in her life right now, content with how everything’s turned out.
Chloe remembers the entire pregnancy with vivid clarity. Beca had been there night and day, attentive to Chloe’s every desire, even obscure grocery store requests in the middle of the night. She hazily recalls waking up almost every morning to Beca singing quietly to their little bump, often forgetting about the own pains in her back, content to watch her wife sing to their baby happily.
It had been a stark change from only a year and a half prior, where Beca had been somewhat adamant about not wanting children for at least a few years. Chloe’s not quite sure where it all clicks for Beca, though she knows they both regret the harsh arguments and fights between them over the topic.
Still, it feels like a fading dream, now that they happily have a son between them.
Theodore Beale-Mitchell is born on a Thursday night in March, weighing in at a healthy 3.9 kilograms, bright blue eyes, and the tiniest tuft of brown hair on top of his head. Beca literally cries when she has to separate from him and Chloe for just a few moments while the nurses quietly check in to clean up and make sure everything’s okay.
She’s back in Chloe’s hospital room only minutes later, hovering with uncertainty while Chloe adjusts their newborn in her arms.
It’s then and there that both Beca and Chloe vow to never let anything bad happen to their baby boy.
When they upgrade to a nicer home in a nice suburb north of Los Angeles, it comes with the added perks of better school options for Theodore. The school is snugly in between their home and Chloe’s neighbourhood veterinary clinic, so they adapt to their little community and surroundings fairly quickly.
Beca thinks that even though Teddy doesn’t necessarily have her biological traits, he picked up on a little of her prickly stoicness. She tells Chloe it’s just how people like them look out for themselves - with caution and hesitance. Chloe understands perfectly, despite having a completely opposite outlook on life. She adores how Beca bonds with their son, however. She has a million photos of similarly-shaded heads bent over a laptop, or the two of them sharing a pair of headphones, or her favourite - one of them donning similar leather jackets. Teddy’s adorable little brown leather jacket is one that Beca brings home - a gift from a client.
The thing about both Beca and Chloe is that they don’t manage conflict well. It’s not necessarily something that they have a lot of experience with, both of them hating the feelings that well up inside them whenever they fight - especially with each other.
They raise Teddy to be a kind, loving little boy. He is always respectful and careful with his words. He is generous and giving, but also wary of being taken advantage of. He loves animals, something that Beca once believed couldn’t have been genetic, but she truly believes it might be. She watches on in amusement whenever Chloe carefully shows him around the clinic on Saturday mornings. He stares at a fluffy white german shepherd, making grabby hands in its direction until Beca carts him back into the waiting area.
He’s the best of what both Chloe and Beca have to offer him.
It comes as a surprise to them, therefore, when he comes home in tears in his eyes and a scrape on his hand.
Beca is furious.
Chloe is heartbroken.
“Oh baby,” Chloe murmurs, bending down to inspect his hand. “Who did this?”
His eyes widen. “I - I did,” he whispers. “I fell.”
Chloe doesn’t believe him for a second, but Beca beats her to the punch. “Did somebody…make you fall, buddy?” she asks, bending down next to them. She brushes his hair from his forehead. “Has this happened before?”
He looks like he’s about to lie to their faces, but Chloe raises an eyebrow, causing his confidence to waver. “Yes…it’s these boys at school,” he admits quietly.
Chloe is well aware of what boys at ages five and six were like, having grown up closely with her cousins in Portland. They were menaces. They had been fairly tolerable until they turned their teasing and bullying towards her when she transferred into their elementary school after her parents moved. Worst years of her life.
“How long has this been going on?” Chloe asks, ensuring her voice doesn’t waver. She can feel Beca’s comforting presence beside her as well as the gentle hand that rubs at her back.
“I don’t know,” he admits, shuffling his feet. He wiggles closer to them, throwing his arms around Chloe’s neck. “A while.” He reaches out for Beca’s hand. “They…said stuff about you.”
Beca feels her heart jump into her throat. “What…stuff?”
“Like how your music really sucks.”
Chloe bites back a chuckle and twists to lock eyes with Beca. She can see relief and amusement in Beca’s eyes.
“That’s rude,” Chloe states, standing up. She groans as his weight causes her knees to wobble a little. “Mommy’s music only sucks a little bit.”
Teddy swats at her back lightly, giggling. He tucks his head against Chloe’s shoulder, turning his face so he can grin at Beca. “I like mommy’s music.”
Chloe continues chatting with him as she carries him into the kitchen. “Want to know a secret? I love mommy’s music.”
“That’s not a secret, mama!” Teddy’s voice carries from the kitchen. Beca shakes her head.
The topic of his school bullies doesn’t come up again until a few weeks later.
“Why don’t we have a dog?” Theodore asks moodily, sliding his waffles around on his plate.
“That’s a great question,” Chloe pipes up, putting her thermos down on the counter. “Why don’t we have a dog?”
Beca groans. She had forgotten that there are two children living in her house.
“Everybody has a dog. Or a cat.”
“Yes, why don’t we have a cat?” Chloe mutters, tapping her chin.
“Chlo,” Beca calls, warning in her voice.
“Yes, dear,” she gets in return.
“Bobby says that only losers don’t have pets.”
“Bobby’s wrong,” Beca says steadily. She wonders if she’s actually going to have to go in to talk to this kid’s parents. Or Teddy’s teacher. She finishes off the last of her coffee. “I didn’t have pets growing up and now look at me.”
Chloe snickers. Beca pretends not to hear.
“I had three dogs when I was a kid,” Chloe whispers to Teddy while she’s helping him put on his shoes.
Beca definitely pretends not to hear that. They definitely can’t afford to have a hyper animal in their house - at least, not for the time being.
Teddy’s mood steadily improves as the rest of the school year continues. Beca and Chloe watch his behaviour and they are pleased to notice that he is slowly reverting back to his cheerful self. Beca knows that Chloe had taken it upon herself to go into the school to have a chat with their son’s teacher, citing that Beca didn’t need additional stress on top of work and other things.
It’s a sunny Tuesday morning in April, just a month and a half after Beca and Chloe found that first scrape on Teddy’s hand.
He sits and the kitchen table and pouts before throwing his bag to the side.
“Hey!” Chloe exclaims, kneeling next to him when she hears the clatter of his plastic pencil case. She pulls him closer to her, making sure to maintain eye contact. “What’s wrong?” she asks quietly. “Do you not want to go to school?”
Beca puts her mug in the sink turning to face them. “What’s wrong?” she repeats, moving to pull up a chair so she can sit by them.
“I have show and tell coming up,” Teddy mumbles.
“You love show and tell!” Beca points out, smiling encouragingly.
“I’m going to fail!” he shouts.
Chloe raises an eyebrow at his raised tone. “What are you talking about? You can’t fail show and tell.” She turns to Beca. “Can you?”
Beca shrugs.
“Everybody has been bringing in their pets for show and tell,” he informs them. “Last week, Mary brought in her hamster. The week before, Nicky brought in his cat.”
“That seems irresponsible,” Beca mutters. Chloe nods in agreement.
“I just want ‘em to like me,” Teddy says softly.
Beca thinks her heart shatters right then and there. Her instincts kick in. She can practically feel Chloe’s temper rising. “Hey,” she says softly, reaching out to hold his tiny hand. It still baffles her that this is a human being that Chloe created - a human being that turns to them for love and support. “Hey,” she repeats to get his attention. “We love you so much, okay? You need to know that. There is nothing wrong with you.”
Chloe is quiet for a moment. “I thought you said they stopped,” she murmurs.
“I…I didn’t want to upset you.” His face scrunches up in concentration. “It’s not bad.”
They stay silent for a minute, allowing the quiet family moment to pass over them.
“When are you presenting?” Beca asks, breaking the silence.
“Friday.”
“Well, your mama and I are going to help you, isn’t that right, Chlo?”
“Yeah, we’re going to make it amazing,” Chloe says with determination. “It’ll be so amazing that your friends literally won’t know what to do with themselves.”
“Yeah?” he asks hesitantly.
“Yeah!” Beca exclaims, trying to exude enthusiasm as best as she can.
“Yeah!” he repeats, raising his arms excitedly.
Chloe grins, tapping her fingers on his knees excitedly. “I have so many ideas, little man. Don’t you worry. God, I think I’m more excited about this right now,” she says to Beca.
Beca rolls her eyes good-naturedly. She loves Chloe Beale, certified forever-child.
“And you know what? We’re going to figure something out, even if it means drastic measures.”
“What’s dras…drastic?” Teddy asks, tilting his head.
“It means she’s being dramatic,” Beca chimes in helpfully.
“I wanna be dramatic!” Teddy shouts.
“We’re going to figure this out,” Chloe repeats, tapping her chin. “Even if it means…stealing our neighbour’s dog!”
“Yeah!” Teddy shouts, gleeful excitement in his eyes. “Dog!”
Beca gawks at them, regardless of how much she loves Chloe and Teddy with all her heart, she’s not going to be party to a crime. “We are not going to steal our neighbour’s dog, Chloe,” she hisses.
Chloe waves her off nonchalantly, focusing on zipping up Teddy’s hoodie. “Sure, Beca.”
“What? Chloe?”
It concerns Beca that Chloe immediately jumped to theft to help their son.
She pulls out her phone, making a note to look up Humane Society locations as soon as possible.
Later that night, Beca sits up straight in bed, a gasp leaving her lips.
Chloe immediately sits up as well, flicking on her bedside lamp. “What is it? Are you okay?” She moves her hand to Beca’s stomach. “Is it the baby?”
“No - no,” Beca mutters distractedly. “I just…was that all an elaborate ploy to get a dog?”
Chloe’s laughter follows her as she sinks back into a restless sleep.
The Greatest Hunt/April Fools
This is the joke chapter. My god.
"Is it just me, or are these challenges getting earlier?" Moaned a sleepy Scott. He was standing with the rest of the contestants outside of the cabins, Chris having already called for them to gather. "What business does he have starting so soon?" "You better not complain the whole challenge." Williams bit at Scott, who flinched slightly. Vera stood to the side with crossed arms, watching over the dispute grudgingly without saying a word. Ray was attempting to joke with Yvette about some dream he had, but the girl was hardly paying attention- she was focusing primarily on the actress. Tabitha was tapping at a clipboard held by a flustered Ace. "Who are you to try to pin the blame on me? Write my name on the innocent side, you scrub!" "I thought you already wrote her there?" Chloe pondered, looking up at Ace. "Uh, uh! Yes...!" Ace sputtered. "You lie!" Tabitha snatched up the board. "Hey! I've spent all night on that!" Ace attempted to take it back. Chloe rose a brow. "Why? We already figured it out!" Ace shot his head towards the geek frantically. "Figured out that it was me?" Jacque cut in. The three quarreling turned to look at him. Jacque scoffed. "Heh, then I don't blame him for making a new list." While Chloe voiced her disbelief, Marshall was too wrapped up in thought to care. He was fuming, and ever since he learned that Scott had not been voted out, his face was tinted with an angry red. "Alright, alright!" Chris clapped his hands, bringing the bickering amongst the campers to an end. "Now, this challenge is easy. A game of hide-n-go seek, where you don't want to get caught, because your seekers..." He motioned behind the campers, where two chains were brought in. At one end of a chain was Alexandra, angry as ever, and the other was an only-slightly-less-ticked-off bear. "Will probably maul you. Now, I'll give you five minutes to hide. On your marks..." The campers ready themselves to run. "Get set..." "We got this, right, Yvette?" Tabitha nervously smiled over to the albino. Yvette answered her with a harsh stare. "G-" And then Yvette punched her in the face. Everyone stared in shock as Tabitha flew to the ground, landing with a harsh thud. Silence filled the air. "What... was that for?" Williams spoke up, slightly frightened. Yvette stood tall. With a steady voice, she confessed, "Tabitha is the one who hypnotized Alexandra!" Everyone gasped, except for Ace, who threw his clipboard down. "Damn it!" He yelled. "All that work for nothing!" "That's why you do things the aggressive way and don't make gay lists." Jacque scoffed behind him. Inwardly, Ace gasped. He's right! Ace thought. Maybe I have been too passive... From here on out, I'll be more aggressive, and make Zack proud! "Well if she did it, she can un-do it!" Chloe shouted excitedly. Everyone seemed relieved by that, until Tabitha scoffed on the ground, holding her hit cheek, "Wh- what makes you so sure that I will, huh!? None of you can force me-" Suddenly Yvette jumped forward, grabbing Tabitha by the shirt collar and pulling her up to point another fist at her. Yvette grinned manically. "I'll have a blast trying." Tabitha's mouth went dry, sweat beading down her temples. Yvette's manic expression coupled with her pink eyes made her truly terrifying. "Okay! Okay!" She was dropped, and turned to Alexandra. Chris moved out of the way, surprised that this subplot was already coming to an end "Uh... Alexandra, I release you from your hypnotism!" Tabitha stated. Slowly, Alexandra's breath stopped being heavy, and her eyes grew softer. "Whoa... what happened?" Chris sighed. "Well, I was going to have her chase the Ants and have the bear chase the Trout, but I guess the bear can hunt all of you." He snapped his fingers to some interns, who removed the chain from around Alexandra's neck. "I don't even want to know what that was for." The girl rubbed at her exposed neck, looking around. "Where's Young?" "He's long gone, sweetie." Ray informed. "Yeah, 'sacrificed himself for you." Chloe added. Alexandra's eyes grew wide. "He got eliminated!? My poor prince!" Suddenly she jerked her head back and screamed to the heavens, "I'M COMING JASON!" And darted off into the woods. Silence again. "Is she really going to try to swim to him?" Vera asked in disbelief. Marshall looked exasperated. "To be honest, I think she was a bigger help when she was trying to kill us..." "Hey! Shut the hell up!" Ace shoved a finger into Marshall's face, who quickly grew panicked. "You don't know what it's like to be alone without your lover, do you?" When he didn't answer, Ace got closer and louder. "DO YOU!?" "N- no!" Marshall's eyes were pricking with tears. "That's what I thought." Ace backed off with pride. "Dude." Yvette said. "BADASS." She held her hand out and high-fived Ace. Scott was shaking with annoyance. "Yes. All fine and dandy." He waved a hand to Chris. "May we please get this moving?" "Heh? Oh yeah. Ready set go." The host said quickly, prompting the teenagers to suddenly perk up and dash away. /Some time later/ Scott was coming to a clearing in the woods. "Yikes... man, I should have followed someone..." He thought to himself. "I never was good at this game." "But I always was." A voice said behind him. At the sound, Scoot whipped around to see Jacque walking into the clearing from the woods. "Whoa, where did you-?" "I followed you." Jacque answered. "Being a convict of several offenses, it's only natural that I know how to sneak around." "You're a criminal!?" Scott shrieked, terrified. Jacque's smug expression turned confused. "You couldn't tell already?" Scoot just shook his head. "Oh... maybe I shouldn't have told you, then." "You think?" "'Doesn't matter now anyway- you see Scott, I figured that at some point down the line someone is going to screw me over, you know how it is, right? Screwing people, I bet you do a lot of that, huh?" Jacque sneered. "So I'm going to just make this nice and easy so I can get at the money, and we can all go home by the end of the day." "I do know quite a bit about that." Scoot admitted proudly, ignoring the rest of what Jacque had said after 'screw.' Jacque gave him an unamused stare. Deciding it wasn't worth it, the convict pulled out a gun. "And I decided to start with you, pretty-boy." "What? Have sex?" Scott asked in confusion. Jacque couldn't help but gag. "Just shut up." He pulled the trigger, and the bullet shot through Scott's lower stomach. "Ow! Hey, you jerk!" Scott hissed, covering the new hole in his body. Jacque smirked, tucking the gun into the back of his pants. "On to the next one." /A little bit later/ "I can't believe that I already got caught!" Marshall groaned, sitting against a tree with Ray. "Ugh, no wonder my team must hate me." Ray hummed. "Nah, if your team hates you, then it has nothing to do with losing- you're just so dang whiny." Marshall grunted. "Remind me why your team hasn't voted you out already, seeing as you already got caught as well." "Did you forget that you put your girlfriend on a path of revenge?" Ray said, half-heartily insulting. Marshall stared off into the distance quietly. But the distance wasn't as quiet, seeing as Williams burst out of the shrubbery, holding a body over his head. "GUUUYS!!" He cried, panic etched on his face. He shoved Scott into their laps. "He DEEAAAAD!" "I'm NOT DEAD." Scott seethed. "I have to stop bleeding all over my clothes and I'll be fine!" "What the heck happened!?" Ray screamed in horror as Marshall pushed his part of Scott off of him. "I found him in the woods like this and he BROKEN you have to FIX HIM!" Williams blubbered, face a disgusting mess. Ray fearfully lifted the bloody shirt to reveal the pierced stomach. Williams shrieked and Ray felt his own stomach heave. "I'm not a doctor!" Ray shouted in rising fear. Marshall shot up off the ground. "If there's a guy with a gun out there, then someone needs to save the others! I'll show you who's whiny!" He grabbed his sleeves and yanked them off his hoodie, flexing to show a bit a muscle. "Hold this." Marshall told Ray calmly as he flung something backwards. Ray caught a lump of hair. "AAAAAAAAH!" He screamed in horror yet again. "Dude, are these your BANGS!? What the hell!?" "They get in my face, and I need to look tough!" Marshall answered as if it were obvious. "You'll see, I can be cool!" He ran off. "Wait, don't leave me here!" Ray screamed out as Williams violently shook him to do something about Scott's condition. "Are you serious, he put a hole in my shirt too!?" Scott complained without any note of pain in his voice. "These clothes were expensive!" /Somewhere else/ Coughing, Chloe tried her best to smile up at Yvette. "He really did a... number on me, huh? Hah... I knew he was trouble... when I walked in..." "Oh, Chloe..." Yvette held her grip on Chloe's hand. "I was so busy with the bear, I didn't even see him until it was too late..." She bowed her head sadly. "This shouldn't have happened." Chloe weakly glanced down at her own body. "G- guess you could say I was a contestant... Until I took a bullet to the knee." She rolled her head back. Yvette's lips pulled tight, on one hand glad her friend was fine, and on the other hand not appreciating Chloe's lack of seriousness. "Let's get you somewhere safe." The albino lifted Chloe up and wrapped the arm on the same side as the injured leg around her shoulders, Chloe wincing. Slowly, they started walking past the bear that Yvette knocked out and into the woods. "If we burn, you burn with us..." She muttered. "What?" Yvette asked, bewildered. "Huh?" Chloe raised her head. "...Never mind." Yvette said. Chloe let her head droop again as the two walked on, trying to find others. "... You shall not pass...." "Chloe, what are you talking about?" Yvette turned to face Chloe, confusion evident. "Did I say something?" Chloe asked back, equally confused. "You're speaking nonsense!" Yvette cried. "Saving people, hunting things, the family business!" Chloe said back, as if it was a normal response. Then it clicked in Yvette's mind that she had heard all of these nonsensical things before. "Chloe, I think the mechanism in your brain that controls your fandom references is broken." "What!?" Chloe cried in concern. "Luke, I am your father!" She yelled in anger, then quickly slapped her hand over her mouth in shock. "Oh my god... you're right..." "Just... try not to talk too much, okay?" Yvette offered. Suddenly, they came across a clearing. "Ah! He got Scott, too?" "Yvette, thank god!" Ray sighed, leaning over the injured man, awkwardly pressing some leaves against the wound. "I have no idea what I'm doing, do yo-" "CHLOE!" Williams sprang off the ground, rushing to collect his friend away from Yvette. "Are you okay!?" "I- I volunteer as tribute?" Was the first thing to come out of her mouth, and she winced at the weird timing. "I'm glad we found you guys," Yvette began, letting Williams take Chloe from her. "Ray, take care of her for me." She rolled up her sleeve, ignoring Ray's screams of protest. "I have a girl to avenge." She winked at Chloe. "I'm the doctor." Chloe responded woozily. Williams clung to Yvette's leg. "Please don't let anyone else get hurt." He begged, tears filling his eyes. The girl smiled down at him and ruffled his hair. "Don't worry." She comforted, then made her way back into the woods. /Elsewhere/ "Please leave me alone." Tabitha asked calmly, making her way through the vegetation of the island. "I really don't need you to give away my hiding spot when I find it." Ace walked with a toothy grin. "But I'm so proud of myself! Oh, if only my boyfriend could see me now! Hey, wanna hear something cool?" He turned to the girl. "No, definitely not." Tabitha said, groaning when Ace kept talking anyway. "Williams thought he could get onto me earlier- you know how he acts all tough and stuff- and I stuck it to him like a true aggressive person!" Ace pumped his fist excitedly. "And the loser started blubbering more than a whale!" Tabitha rolled her eyes. "For once, I think there're more important things to do than get caught up in things outside of the challenge. As in: go away." Ace rose a brow. "Aren't you the one who likes this kinda stuff?" Tabitha cocked her head. "I've been shown the error of my ways." She lightly touched the side if her face that had gotten punched, a blush covering her cheeks. "Wait, do you-?" Ace began to question in disbelief, before a person came out of the woods. "Oh, hey Jacque!" Ace smiled. "Hey, I've been doing what you suggested- I'm being aggressive, and it's working like a charm!" Jacque moved his arms behind his back, smiling. "That so? Glad you take my advice to heart." "Ugh." Tabitha groaned moodily. "Can I leave?" "Here's another piece of advice: drop dead." Swiftly, he pulled out the gun, aiming it ahead at the two. Tabitha's angst and Ace's pride seemed to fly out the window as they stared down the barrel of the weapon. This was the last thing they expected. "Now let's see... which of you is more annoying?" Jacque teased, flicking his wrist to aim at one after the other. Damn... simply acting tougher didn't make me any more physically strong... Ace worried, gulping. In fact, now my legs feel weaker than usual. What to do? The boy's gaze flicked to the equally scared Tabitha. She looked up at him, a brief sliver of hope crossing her face. Ace pushed her forward towards Jacque, then turned tail and ran. Jacque, surprised, shot on instinct. The bullet wasn't aimed correctly and lodged in the dirt past Tabitha. The girl scrambled off the ground and ran in the same direction as Ace before the convict could make a step forward. "Shit!" Jacque hissed, running after them. /With someone else/ Vera dashed past branches and bushes, panting as the body in her arms weighed her down. Why had she gone out to the ocean to make sure Alexandra was okay? Now she just had a limp body to worry her. Yes, the girl appearantly had tried to swim out to her lover, but failed. Suddenly, she came to a clearing, one with four people strewn about. Two were bleeding and wounded, one was frantically hovering around the injured, and the last was curled up in a whimpering ball. "Vera!" Ray called out desperately when he saw the girl. "Help!" It looked like he was trying to tie a torn-off jean leg around Chloe's actual leg. "Oh, good thing you're here, Ray!" Vera smiled in relief. Ray smiled back with hope, until Alexandra's body was dumped in front of him. "Wh- what?" "I think she was drowning, and might possibly be dead?" She shrugged simply. "Gah! I don't know CPR! Is that even what she needs?" Ray stammered out in fear. Scott, propping his head on a fist, said, "Don't you just kiss them and hit their chests?" Vera shrugged. "If all of you guys are getting hurt, I should go make sure no one is out there in pain." She was about to leave, before Ace and Tabitha burst into the clearing. "Whoa, wha-!?" Vera shouted, before the two ducked behind her, almost cowering. Then a third person burst in, panting. "Heh- heh- give me a run for the money, huh?" "What's going on?" Vera asked in bewilderment, gaze set on the gun in Jacque's hand. "Why don't you figure out for yourself?" Tabitha barked, nudging Vera forward roughly. She stumbled, but caught herself. The barrel was pointed to her shoulder. "Fine by me." Jacque smirked. Vera wasn't ready to make any sudden movements, just stared in worry. As his hand tensed, ready to pull the trigger, a pebble was launched to the back of his head. "Ah! Erg..." He growled, the weapon almost slipping from his grip. He swiveled around to face the offender. "Take this!" Marshall yelled, advancing with a raised fist. The convict's face grew worried as the boy drew near, but his worry was quickly ended when he smacked Marshall across the face with the handle of the gun. "Augh!" Marshall flew backwards, back hitting the trunk of a tree. Vera gasped. "Tch. Weak." Jacque mocked. "Don't be so mean." A feminine voice rose from the shadows of the trees. Everyone in the clearing looked up, to see the figure of Yvette. "We're saved!" Williams cheered. Jacque shot Yvette in the stomach. "Yeah, no." He said coolly. Everyone went silent, impending doom upon them. But the bullet didn't pierce Yvette! In fact, it bounced right off and lodged in Jacque's shoulder! "What!? HOW!?" Yvette smirked, raising her shirt just enough to show off her rock-hard abs. Jacque's face drained of color. Yvette promptly beat the shit out of him. Swooning and blushing like mad, Tabitha gushed, "All's well that ends well..." "Someone please call an actual medic!" Ray pleaded. "Marshall!" Vera ran over to his side, kneeling down. He was bleeding from the side if his head, but still smiled up at her. "Are you okay?" "Heh, yeah... did I look cool?" He asked. Vera smiled at him warmly. "You sure did. Hey, what happened to your bangs?" "Oh, I took those off. I think Ace is wearing them, now." Ace, with Marshall's bangs, mused to himself, "Maybe I could go with that gross emo look Williams has got going on?" "I find that offensive..." Williams cried below him. "And I find you sexy!" Ace snickered. "I thought you said you had a boyfriend?" Tabitha rose a brow. "Ha, so?" Ace laughed. "Hey, don't take my role, you dick!" Scott yelled from the ground. "So..." Marshall brought the attention back to him. "Now that I'm cool, can we date?" He asked hopefully. "Oh, er..." Vera scratched at her head. "You see, I actually found you more attractive when you were weak a whiny... so, I'm going to have to say no." Marshall stared at her blankly. Tears then began to stream down his face stoically as he made no sound. "Aie... don't take it personally..." Vera tried to comfort. Chris walked up to them from out of the woods, clapping his hands for attention. "Alright, since none of you actually finished the challenge, I've decided that you're all a worthless cast. You're all kicked off." Everyone groaned, and then trickled off into a sad silence. After a minute, Alexandra raised a limp arm. "Hell yeah." The end! "WHAT THE!?" A voice shouted after the screen went to white. A black silhouette floated in front of the screen, shaped in the form of a humanoid with no bound to gravity. It twisted around, waiting for something else to happen. "That was it? That's not how it's supposed to go! Nothing right happened at all!" "Boss!" Another voice rose, form appearing from the side. "We lost all rhyme and reason! Our hold on the island was also was completely lost!" The first one, the 'boss', threw their arms down at their sides. "Don't you think I know that!? What made everything spiral out of control?" A third voice spoke up, "Boss, I figured it out!" Another being sprang in from the side, smaller than the boss, but still looked human. "Outta my way!" It demanded to the second one, kicking them away from view. The second voice cursed, but seemed to have backed off, and did not reappear. The smaller one floated around the boss briefly, holding a limp, thin object in hand. "It's all about the date!" The small one explained. "A day can hold that much power?" The first voice inquired, leaning in to observe the object. "This one can, apparently! Humans call the first of April 'April Fools' day. It's written as a holiday on the calendar." "How long does it last?" The boss asked worriedly. "Not long, everything should go back to normal by next episode!" The smaller one said excitedly.
Requests (3/16/17)
Okay, so I have been getting a lot of requests in my off time and now I’ve got a chance to check my inbox. So instead of addressing each request in their own post and spamming you guys with it I’m just going to make one long post with each request in it. If you’ve sent me a request or message/ask recently you haven’t seen answered, it’s probably on this post.
Anonymous said:
Do another click and drag!!! Maybe superhero themed? You have the best blog btw
I’ve actually got a click and drag game as the last game of this month! It’s not super hero themed though. It’s a theme which - if I think goes well - I’ll revisit in the future.
Any chance of a caption where a smart college guy named Rick, gets swapped with Sarah Hylands character on modern family, and force to live out her ditzy, boy filled life?
Sure thing!
Anonymous said:
Could you do another Peyton List caption please.
You got it!
Anonymous said:
Could you please do a caption about a guy named Nate who has to dress like Alicia Silverstone's character from Clueless?
Yep! I haven’t done one with her yet so this could be fun! :)
@destinydueler said:
Probably a lesser known celebrity but always had a crush on her. Could you do something with Arielle Kebbel? Maybe where an guy late 20's early 30's was mean to his new step mother who is younger than him turns him into a female, and first he hates it but whatever she did to turn him into a girl is turning him into an obedient bff step daughter for his step mother, maybe too well like a stepford daughter?
I sort of know who this is so I THINK I can do this. Not entirely sure though. I’ll definitely try. :)
A guy who is really smart not a nerd just intelligent he's afraid of losing his intelligence so one day when a dominant girl shows she's smarter he gets mad and curses her out. So she turns him into a stereotypical blonde bimbo where he slowly loses his intelligence the more he defies her. The dom has a thing for dumb girls Thought you could use Ashley Benson as the TG and I know you usually don't show the person who TG'd them but could you use Elizabeth Gillies she's so hot and dominant.
There are no pics of Ashley Benson & Elizabeth Gillies together so I can’t really make that work but I can totally work with having Ashley Benson be the subject in this! :)
@leslievanb said:
can you do a story of a guy named lesley who bumps into Kat von D and becomes her
Sure thing, honey! :)
Caption where a mean step son is sissified by her step mother, and all his video games are replaced with barbies, which his step mom makes him play with magically. Like he's his original self on the inside but his outside self is her mom's barbie. The girl used would be Olivia Holt.
Olivia Holt is an adult so I can totally do this. :)
I would like to say that I really love your caps and games. They show real imagination and skill. The request I have is for Nicholas a middle class, working family man, who has been worn down by life and work and family. He goes to his high school class reunion and is overcome with regret of a life not lived. The universe feels his pain and his younger self is nudged in the right direction for his or hir happy life. Thank you for ur time
Aww, thank you so much! And I can totally do this! <3
Anonymous said:
Would you be able too do one with Danielle Bregoli?
I don’t know who that is, sorry. :(
Anonymous said:
Can you make a caption where a macho superhero team is turned into frail girly girls who hate fighting? I think I saw a request like this a while ago, but I don't know if the cap ever got made.
I did get a few requests like this a while ago, I’m trying to make it into a game and have been having real progress but a little trouble just making all the pieces work. But this IS something I’m working on, 100%.
@classicccb said:
You should do a choose your destiny game, but it's just random. Have a story about going to comic con as a sexy comic character with your gf but she changes it up and makes you the sexy girl and she's the hero...(or human and your the sexy hero) but all the drinks are regular drinks like a bud light, or whiskey soda and it can be random and unguessable haha idk just a thought
It doesn’t include the comic con aspect or the drinks, but I think you’ll like the game I have going up on April 1st. ;)
Anonymous said:
Do you have any Chloe Bennet caps coming up? If not, can you do one? Thanks!
It looks like I don’t have any in the queue yet so I’ll get one ready for you. :)
Anonymous said:
could you do a caption about a guy named Joseph turned into Brandy please
Totes!
Anonymous said:
Hey, can you do one where a mom turns her ungrateful son into a single mom who has three kids. And could you use Sofia Vergara?
Anonymous said:
I loved your last caption of Grace Phipps and Maia Mitchell! Could you please make another one?
I think I should be able to. Just a matter of finding the right image. :)
Anonymous said:
I really like that Ariana pic you did where the boy was turned into a different version of her. Think you can do one with Eliza Dushku, maybe a boy met her at a convention and she overheard him say she was so much hotter in Bring it on then now. So she turns him into that version of her, and he's forced to be her sissy chearleader and do little chants and routines for her and with every cheer he does he loses a bit of his true self?
Oh yeah! I LOVE Eliza Dushku! And her Bring It On character is a lot of fun to work with! (I’m also a bit of a sucker for cheerleaders, if you haven’t noticed.)
Anonymous said:
Are planning on making anther Selena Gomez caption ? I love your captions so much by the way!
Aww, thanks sweetie! :) And I’ve got one with Selena in the queue right now. It comes out on Tuesday it looks like!
Anonymous said:
Hi, I was wondering if you could make a caption with Ariana Grande from the one of the episodes of Victorious , where she is wearing a blonde wig?
I actually JUST made a GIF cap with her in that wig! That’ll come out like in the second half of April. :)
Anonymous said:
Could you create a caption involving a guy who is forced to work at a diner as Beth Behrs character Caroline Channing?
Oh yeah, totally! I’ve been meaning to work with Beth Behrs and that show. :)
Anonymous said:
On your caption with Ariana turning that hacker into her character from Victorious you mentioned he went through training, hypnosis, and hormones, think you could make a prequel cap of the hypnosis?
I could try but it might not really work out since there’s already a cap talking about what became of the character, you know? I don’t know how well I can write a cap which is just, “this is the hypnosis,” and have it be interesting. So I’ll try but I might not end up posting it.
Anonymous said:
Hey, could you do one where a guy who slut shames women, gets trapped in the body of Miley Cyrus and forced to do all the slutty stuff she does at her concerts?
Sure thing! I might not make the girl name Miley, but it’ll definitely be her image and this gist.
Anonymous said:
Hi could you do a cap with Rachel Keller. Please i love your caps so much
You bet! :)
Anonymous said:
Thanks so much for the Carly cap! <333 I loved it!
You’re welcome! I’m glad you liked it. :)
Anonymous said:
First of all, i love your work. I have a request for a caption for ya. Have a guy named Matthew be turned into a girl by his sister. I would prefer the celebs to be Debby Ryan, Katy Perry, Anna Kendrick, Jennifer Lawrence, or Emma Watson. Thanks in advanced!!
You’re welcome in advance. :) And yes, I can totally work with this!
Books I’ve Read So Far In 2018 (Part 2)
Tumblr had a bit of a blip and wouldn’t let me continue on with that quite lengthy blog post... so here’s part 2!
Tumblr media
6. This Man by Jodi Ellen Malpas
I don't really want to dwell on this book - I'd wish I hadn't read it really. I'm partial to a bit of Fifty Shades but I just think this book was it's awkward cousin. The storyline was extremely repetitive and I just wanted it to end.
However, I did finish it, so it's on my list for those I've read so far in 2018.
Tumblr media
7. Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
 I read this book as part of a Copy Cat challenge I was part of on Goodreads. I really enjoyed this book, I thought it was fun, romantic, and a bit supernatural - so everything I need in a good book.
I don't really know what else to say about it really. It's the first book in a series of four so I am looking at digging out the second book and just cracking through them to see where this story goes.
I would definitely recommend this to younger Chloe in her Twilight-phase.
Tumblr media
8. The Gigantic Beard That Was Evil by Stephen Collins
Last but not least we have the first graphic novel that I have ever read. I really enjoyed it! I thought the story was fun, and I liked looking at the illustrations. I like that I can class this as reading a book but if I was more strict with myself I wouldn't include it because all in all it probably took me half an hour to read.However, I think it was a good introduction to graphic novels so I'm glad I gave it a go. I'm definitely more open to reading more challenging graphic novels in the future.
So what's next...?
I am currently about half way through Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I like Harry Potter, the movies, and the franchise, but I'm not as precious about the books so I'm slowly working through these. I think I've been working through this one since before Christmas.I have Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige on e-book. My library has a phone app so I have managed to download this onto my phone. Until I find a paper copy, this book is my go-to if I'm stuck in traffic on the bus and don't have my normal book to hand.Finally, I am thinking about starting Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth. I wanted to read it when it came out (last year I believe) so when I saw a hardback copy in the library I grabbed it. I'm a couple of pages in and not sure what I think yet, but its definitely a potential to get read in April.
If anyone lasted this long, or scrolled straight to the bottom, THANK YOU and congratulations! I will update you in my next post. TTFN.
The Bunker
Dean felt nauseous.
He had stepped into the spare bedroom CC stayed in to change the sheets and the stink of sulfur hit him like a right hook. It was everywhere, the bed, the desk chair, little dusting of yellow flakes that stopped him in his tracks. He closed his eyes as the rage poured through the Mark and into his veins. A tiny voice inside his mind replied, ‘And you call yourself a hunter.’ He clenched his fist and released his jaw, taking in one more deep breath of betrayal.
“Sam!”
“Yeah?”
“Just come here a sec!” Dean barked, the energy drained from him as the terrifying possibilities came crashing into focus.
“What is it—shit, it reeks in here,” Sam’s eyebrows shot up. “You didn’t test her?”
“I was a little preoccupied!” Dean admonished, “what? You didn’t either!”
“Is she?”
“No, she’s alive or at least she was last I saw her. How did I miss this?!” Dean’s eyes finally locked onto Sam’s. Sam swallowed as he realized how deep this cut into Dean’s carefully crafted armor. Dean dropped onto the perfectly made bed, elbows resting on his knees as he tried to gather himself.
“You’re telling me,” Sam huffed, then their old friend suspicion surfaced. “Crowley.”
Dean pulled his bottom lip against his teeth, shaking his head as it didn’t add up.
“He was pretty keen on meeting CC, Dean.” Sam mentally walked through the day at Magnus’s and the last time they saw the King of Hell.
“Oh god, Sam. What if it was one of the ones that defiled my Baby?” Dean stood and stormed down the hall toward the bathroom. “I am going to be sick, I mean, I--- and she--- and--”
“Breathe!” Sam rolled his eyes as his brother started to dry heave. Dean inhaled the cool, fresh air of the shower room, face leaning over the sink as Sam waited beside him. Dean tried to block the images of CC’s face in his hands, blood on his thighs, mouth on him. He sloshed the cold water on his face and neck, fingers dragging a little rougher than necessary, subconsciously hurting himself to bury the repulsion, the guilt, the fear.
“How did it even get in here, Sam? This place is warded to the gills.” Dean kept his eyes closed, unwilling to meet his reflection in the mirror. “She had a branding, on her thigh. But it wasn’t ancient, it just said, ‘Hi.’ I mean ‘hi’, really?!” Dean pushed off the sink, hand tugging the hair off his forehead.
“Might be some kind of blood spell? I’ll look in to what could have gotten past the Men of Letters’ fail-safes.”
“Yeah, yeah, okay,” Dean sighed. “You do that, I’m gonna burn my sheets and take a shower. In lye.”
Three hours later and Sam hadn’t narrowed down what a demon would have to do in order to gain access to the Bunker. Dean had stopped himself from calling Crowley five or six times, unwilling to give the demon the satisfaction of pulling one over on him. The whole thing felt like a sick twisted game of humiliation and not even the good kind. As most days when he was lost in thought, Dean’s left hand rubbed over the Mark, like bellows doting over embers.
“Look, just call her, maybe we can meet up, exorcise it?”
“Something tells me she is going to see through whatever we cook up, Sam,” Dean muttered.
“This isn’t Chloe, Dean. This is a demon who has our friend!” Sam was losing his patience. “I mean, no matter who she’s working for, we have to go after her.”
Dean waited, letting Sam’s exasperation contort his face into five different things before he looked his big brother in the unamused eye. “You done?”
“No, but if you have something to add, why don’t you share with the class?”
“You don’t think that I know what this means, for CC? The girl that I--, the hunter that has been pulling my head out of my ass for the better part of a year to be taken like this? To have that thing inside her? Sam? Really?!” Dean had his lecture face on staring admonished at Sam’s bitch face and his lips pursed.
“Well, don’t you think it’s time we do something about it?” Sam shifted in his chair.
“Oh, we’re going to do something about it, but I’m not leaving it to chance or a bad tip from Crowley. We do what we do, we hunt the thing.” The brothers shared a look, an entire conversation that resulted in a sucking of teeth and a ruthless smirk.
Her bike had run out of gas, how something that was extremely fuel efficient and, also the stuff of dreams ran out of gas, made little sense to Chloe. But there she was, on the side of the road in the afternoon heat, stranded. Her conversation with her granddad’s spirit had replayed itself in her thoughts for days. It was like elevator music to her now, familiar yet warbled, and easily dismissed.
The eighteen-wheeler was the first sign of civilization she had seen since leaving the memories in the woods. If this was her impending choice, she was ready to answer and take the next step back towards control. It was not. Though the trucker was friendly and had the air conditioning on full blast.
“Where to, princess?”
“Don’t know, we’ll see when we get there.”
The driver gave a thoughtful frown and eased off the brakes.
April 9, 2014
Sayre, OK
Fog clung to the road, sloping into ditches as the passing cars drove by, their proximity rattling the windows around you. You had pulled over to the shoulder hoping for a distraction, but that was hours ago. The body heat had steamed the windshield against the sunrise, scarlet and coral blotches appeared slowly before your unfocused eyes. You listened to the voicemail again, letting the once solacing voice eat away at any semblance of purpose you had left.
He had heard about your last case, wanted to meet half way. There were rumors about Crowley and Dean felt like his show down with Abaddon was an any-day-now situation. Damn, was he a brilliant bullshit artist. You almost believed he wanted to see you. It almost sounded that he had convinced himself he need to see CC again before that next battle. Maybe that’s what it was, maybe it was just Dean’s sentimental side breaking through before he got the First Blade back in his hand.
But it was just a hint too earnest and two puffs too smooth for someone who had done the things to you that he had. Dean knew and he was setting his trap.
You thought of going underground, knowing Crowley still had a few tails on you, despite your regular check ins. There was always defection, switch teams and play against the world’s deadliest hunters, with the last Knight of Hell as your team captain. Or you could tell him the disgusting, grisly truth and let him, or Sam, exorcise you where you stand.
None of those were without merit, but all were without much hope in your survival. The radio crackled over the opening cords of the next song, Kurt Cobain’s voice came next, shattering your pretensions, and finally the tears began to fall.
*^*
Rock Springs, WY
April 12, 2014
The Impala pulled into the parking lot just after rush hour, which wasn’t much to avoid in most respects. Sam had been on the phone on and off the entire drive, keeping tabs on the soul banks that Abaddon had erected all over. Dean was listening, but they both knew he had checked out unless it was about CC or the Queen Bitch herself. He needed the easy routine of tuning the radio and the weight of his foot on the gas. Because when he stopped or thought too much, everything seemed to unfreeze and fall apart at his slightest touch.
The motel had plenty of vacancies, especially for Agents Hawkins and Grohl. There wasn’t a verified case for forty miles, but something about putting on the Fed suit and using an alias made Dean feel in control. It was hard to believe there was a time when he hated the get ups. He replayed his times with CC on and off through the years, usually as one forgotten memory would surface, eventually they all snowballed over the bigger picture. But he could only see now where the holes in time split and the emptiness of his unspoken promises fissured.
“You call her?” Sam’s voice broke through his weapons check.
“Yeah, just rang through to voicemail. We’ll settle in and grab something to eat and I will try again.”
He didn’t turn around to see that look on Sam’s face, he already felt its sting without having to face it.
*^*
It as if she was asleep, her body seemed so much smaller from the outside. Though her boots fell inside the edge of the mattress, you felt the need to bed her knees, curling her on her side as she liked to rest. She was warm and her body heavy. You waited at the small breakfast table, new vessel’s fingers flexing as you acclimated to him. “Come on, CC, wake up.”
She shouldn’t have been tired, you had a solid six hours the night before. But when you left her mouth, you only passively realized that she was nowhere to be found. In fact, you couldn’t recall the last time you felt her fighting you.
Dean.
You hadn’t felt her since Dean. It was a good thing they were coming for you, then. Maybe his voice could break through to her, wherever she had gone. Like some macabre fairy tale, the cursed hunter wakes the mind-lost vessel. You should be gone by then, they didn’t need an audience. You didn’t need to bare witness to that. They would probably blast you full of rock salt and finish you off with their Kurdish knife. Instead you stayed, staring at the man’s generic phone screen until you heard CC’s ringtone from her coat on the rack behind the door.
Dean.
*^*
“I don’t know Sam, this all feel off to you?” Dean swallowed down some coffee as he waited for CC’s voicemail message to pick up again.
“We’re hunting a demon, not really expecting it to make it easy,” Sam shrugged.
“But, wouldn’t it pick up and taunt us?”
“Maybe it ditched her phone, want me to try the GPS?” Sam offered, pulling open his laptop on the cramped diner table.
Dean smiled at the waitress as she brought his slice of pie, though his stomach was full, he wasn’t going to deny himself a slice of Dutch Apple, especially not tonight. Sam huh-ed.
“What?”
“It’s pinging at our motel.” Sam stuck his tongue in his cheek as he spun the screen for Dean to see.
“Fucking demons,” Dean spoke through his bite of pie, inhaling all he could as Sam packed up his computer and left more than enough extra for a tip.
*^*
You could smoke out, there was still enough time. The Impala’s engine cut on the other side of the parking lot. You could almost feel him from where you sat, but this body was a poor substitute, and you were a selfish, masochistic bitch. So, you waited. Chloe’s breath was shallow, but steady. She hadn’t stirred or made even one noise. In a way, this was probably the last time you would ever see her again. Moving day and this was your last walk through of your first place. It was understandable to linger, justifying your inability to walk away from her and Dean.
They had geared up in their room, you could hear muffled voices through the walls, there were just three rooms between you and two were empty. Even whispering, you’d know those voices anywhere. They walked around the building, knowing if they took the shortest distance they would pass in front of the large window at your back. Sometimes you hated hunters’ caution and sometimes you wanted to pat their little heads. You pulled air through his nose and waited.
He called again. Honestly.
“Door’s open,” you said to whichever one was at the door, trying to discreetly pick the lock in nearly full view of the parking lot and surrounding alley. The voice was coarse out of your throat, foreign and distasteful to use for such occasions.
*^*
As the door swung open, Sam’s eyes fell on their host, before locking on to the sight of CC prone on the bed. He dragged his brother to his feet, and they walked straight into the fray. Tucking away his lock pick, Dean rocked forward in a fury, only taking two steps before he was knocked back. In half a breath, Sam and Dean were pinned against the coat rack as the door swung closed. The demon hadn’t even stood up.
“What did you do to her?!” Dean demanded, working to focus and to buy Sam time as a distraction.
“Nothing much worse than you did,” he spoke calmly, but the cadence wasn’t meant for this mouth.
“I’m going to kill you, you sonofabitch!”
“I know you want to, especially now, with all that blood-lust running through you.” The demon stood, the vessel was a white guy in his forties, small compared to them, but that meant nothing now. “The Mark really smarts after you lost the Blade, doesn’t Dean? I know how it makes you feel and how you think. So, I know you want to kill me, in fact, I was banking on it. That’s why I found a new meat suit. Didn’t wanna add anymore guilt on the Winchester laundry list.”
“But, why?” Sam searched for understanding, “I mean, why stick around for us to find you. You could have run back to Abaddon or Crowley or to fucking Botswana by now.”
The demon didn’t answer, but watched Dean watch CC, it almost seemed wistful. Sam was struggling to piece together its motivations all while fighting the force holding him against his will. But Dean had stopped fidgeting beside him, his brother had gone lax. Dean’s eyes unfocused before glaring at their captor.
“You like to watch, huh? Is that it? You get off on people’s feelings, you sick fuck.” Dean inhaled slowly with a piercing stare that further challenged the demon. He tried not to let his rage plummet with the shock as he started to feel an ease of pressure against his body.
“You know I don’t. Besides, I haven’t answered Sam, yet.” The demon approached them, waiting just out of arm’s reach. “I need your help.”
*^*
You had no clue if this would work, but it was the Hail Mary at the end of the game of your own devising. You kept going back to him and now that you had been made, you were running out of options. Nothing you did made sense, but if you were going to get through to Dean, you had to tell the truth. Or at least part of it.
“I don’t know where CC is.”
“You mean other than on the bed,” Dean was not amused with the child-like turn.
You rolled your eyes and put your hands on your hips, which was far less empowering in this form than in hers. “Obviously. She hasn’t been talking back for a while and when I exited stage left, it’s been quiet.”
“Has she had any brain damage or major trauma?” Sam asked.
You shook your head and then shrugged, possession was a bit traumatic, even when you weren’t out to derail her sanity. “The last time I remember even a glimpse of her was with Dean, so I was hoping…”
“No.”
“What, why?”
“It wants me to wake Sleeping Beauty,” Dean snapped. “I am not putting the moves on a comatose girl, not after what, just no.”
“It has a name,” you snipped, dropping your hold on Dean, which oddly wasn’t as secure as it was originally. “Just try and talk to her? Maybe she can resurface.”
“And if I don’t?” Dean watched you like a true enemy. While the power you possessed was nothing compared to what he unknowingly held over you, it was nice to been seen for what you were finally. Again, you remained silent, choosing to squeeze Sam’s throat enough for him to audibly choke. “Noted.”
He approached the bed with caution, eyeing the weapons you had forced from their grasp and waist bands with their confinement. You slid them across the floor beneath the table, nudging Dean onward. Out of annoyance more than courtesy, you removed the strangle hold from Sam’s throat. He sputtered and coughed as Dean checked CC’s pulse.
“Dean?”
“She’s good.” Dean’s large hand cradled her face as he began to whisper, “I’m so sorry, but we’re going to get you out of here. We’re gonna get you back on your feet and we can kick the bastard’s ass together, okay? Cease, you hearing me in there, huh?”
Your eyes flitted back to Sam, he looked at you with something too close to pity in his eyes. You let your eyes blacken and stuck your tongue out at him. Dean started talking again, leaving a little peck on Chloe’s forehead as he waxed on about their first hunt. Things you had learned but hadn’t realized what their past meant for him. It paled in comparison to yours, but Dean wasn’t here for you. And, finally you saw that you weren’t only there for yourself either.
“What about a dream walk?” Sam suggested, “we could probably scrounge up the ingredients between us.”
“Dean? Think you could handle it?” Everything rested on the head of a pin, Chloe’s life, your afterlife, Sam’s patience and Dean’s faith.
“I’m not leaving you alone with Sam,” Dean didn’t bother looking at you, he was too worried about CC.
“It’s not like we can trust her with our bodies, Dean.” Sam cocked his head as Dean’s eyes looked skyward.
“Demons don’t sleep, ergo it’s not coming with.”
You swallowed, remembering everything you knew about the ritual. “Dean, look, if I trust Sam to keep from killing OR exorcising me while I’m in. Will you trust me to go with you?”
“Why are you even still here?” Dean muttered, offended by your very existence.
“Because I don’t want Chloe dead, if I did, I would have done it a long time ago.”
“That right?” Dean stood now, looking down his nose at your vessel.
“Look, I asked for your help, alright?” You threw in your final chip and let Sam fall back to his feet. “Either help me find Chloe or kill me and do it on your own, but this guy has kids and I haven’t done a thing to him or her since you’ve been here. You can trust me.”
Dean let out a mirthless laugh. “Trust you? Sorry, Alan,” he quipped as he flicked the embroidered name tag on your chest. “I don’t even know you.”
*^*
He was impossibly close now and though he had been hiding it, the rage was surging just beneath the surface.  Dean’s every instinct told him to kill this thing, but the way it moved and spoke was giving him a headache. It was like a bad body swap, because he was very clearly talking to CC while talking about CC. Just how long had she been possessed for it to have this sort of mimicry?
“That stings a little, but I’m not going to hold a shitty memory against you, Dean. Ball’s in your court, boys.” The demon sat down, leaning back to grab both of their guns and knife.
