The absolute funniest conversation I have ever had with a doctor is hands down my last visit to my dentist back in California. Over the course of the conversation, as the dentist nurse* grew progressively more bemused (and slightly horrified), the dentist said things including but not limited to "you have a tiny little bird mouth" and "if you were an animal, you'd be a fox" (the dentist nurse at this point made a "wtf" kind of noise) and the dentist hastened to clarify "in a good way! You seem clever, not like a trickster". She also said she herself would be a hummingbird. I spent the entire appointment trying desperately not to laugh while they were working on my teeth *dental hygienist??? assistant dentist????
I've got another thing to add to my list of top five funniest things doctors have said to me: My latest test results came back, and I now have a document saying I have, and I quote, "unremarkable hands"

Avery: And here we see Yume and Nanako in their natural habitat. Texting eachother anything to try to make eachother happy. Yume: *sends Sabito pic to Nanako* Nanako: My hubby!! Yume: Ha ha, yes my friend.
۞⋆♡ ♡⋆۞
Nanako: There are some things beyond our understanding. We must accept them and learn from them. Because these moments of crisis are also potential moments of faith. A time, when we either come together or fall apart. Nature always has a way of balancing itself. The only question is, what part will we play? Yori: Did you just make that up? Nanako: No. I read it in a fortune cookie once. Yori: Nanako: A really long fortune cookie.
۞⋆♡ ♡⋆۞
Bri: Have I ever told you that you cook well? Yume: Awww, no, you haven't! Bri: So why do you keep cooking?
۞⋆♡ ♡⋆۞
Mosmei: Why does my arm shake and turn bright red when I’m eating dirt? Yume: Yume: Why are you eating dirt? Mosmei: Did I ask you if I should eat dirt? No, so answer my question.
۞⋆♡ ♡⋆۞
Yume: Hey Mosmei, have you seen the photographer? Mosmei: Nope. Have you seen the meat tenderizer? Yume, confused: What? Mosmei, grabbing the meat tenderizer out of the drawer: No reason, cute girl things!
۞⋆♡ ♡⋆۞
Nanako: Why's it called an oven when you of in the cold food and you of out hot eat the food? Yori: …What???
۞⋆♡ ♡⋆۞
Mosmei: What the hell were you thinking? Bri: I heard releasing birds at a wedding is romantic! Mosmei: You released OSTRICHES!
۞⋆♡ ♡⋆۞
Yori: You spent all our money on THIS?? Avery, putting tiny raincoats on ducklings: They live outside. They need this.
۞⋆♡ ♡⋆۞
Avery: WHO ATE MY BREAD?! Avery: I'M GOING TO FUCKING K- Yume: I did? Avery: Kiss you and buy some more, you haven't been eating anything today Yume. *walking away* Yume: Yume: Their gone Mosmei. Mosmei, coming out the closet with bread stuffed in their mouth: Twankh uh!
۞⋆♡ ♡⋆۞
Nanako: You've been given a new job to do, but I'm worried it might make you angry. Avery: Just say it quick, like ripping off a band-aid. Nanako: You have to teach Zubbue how to drive. Avery: …put the band-aid back on.
۞⋆♡ ♡⋆۞
Yume: Name a more iconic duo than my crippling fear of abandonment and my anxiety. I’ll wait. Nanako: You and me! Yume: *tearing up* Ok.
۞⋆♡ ♡⋆۞
Yori: So… what’s goin’ on? Bri: You want the long version or the short version? Yori, hesitantly: The short one, I guess? Bri: Shit’s fucked. Yori: Oh. Well, yeah, that’s definitely not an optimal situation.
۞⋆♡ ♡⋆۞
Mosmei: I printed up a bunch of fake safety inspection certificates. Go slap one on anything that looks like a lawsuit. Yume: Mosmei, is that legal? Mosmei: When the cops aren’t around, anything’s legal!
۞⋆♡ ♡⋆۞
Yori, looking at a selfie of Mosmei’s: I hate this photo. Mosmei: I’m cute as fuck in that photo! I’m smiling kindly. Yori: You’re not smiling kindly; you look like you’re up to something. Mosmei: Up to kindness.
۞⋆♡ ♡⋆۞
Yori, in Yume’s window: I thought I’d find you here! Nanako, climbing past Zubbue: WE COULD HAVE USED THE DOOR-
۞⋆♡ ♡⋆۞
Bri: Avery likes to win. When they were 8, a little Club Scout friend of theirs bragged they could sell the most cookies. Bri: Damned if Avery didn't walk the neighborhood till they got blisters on their feet, and won by 10 boxes. Bri: Best part is, Avery wasn't even a Club Scout.

Gooooood Morning Paradis Birds! Remember to give a big round of applause to the football team for clutching the victory against reigning champion Marley High! We stay undefeated thanks to our excellent and hardworking team. Special shoutout to Captain Eren Yeager for guiding the team to another flawless victory-
You're half-heartedly paying attention to class, sleepily listening to the school announcements over the speaker until the mention of his name douses you like a shock of ice-cold water.
You can't catch the rest of the announcement because your class erupts into cheer, enthusiastically clapping their hands for the boy of the hour.
The only one not joining is you.
Eren's smile is brighter than 100 kilowatts. In the back of your mind, you wonder where he learned to smile like that. When his emotions became so practiced.
Mr.Berner tries to calm the kids down, especially Sasha who bangs on her desks and howls, creating even more hype and ruckus. The class, now in a chattier mode, excitedly breaks into little conversations.
"Man, thank god. That school is so pretentious, I'm glad we finally have something over them."
"Jeez, I know our team was good, but it's this good-?"
"-Bro, year of XXXX is stacked as fuck. It's literally never been this stacked before. We have a whole team of prodigies, it's insane-especially Eren. "
"Yepp. My dad went to Paradis too and he said shit like this never happened during his time. The academic comps were one thing, but these footballs wins? We're being put on the fucking map."
The announcements are still going on, but it's hard to hear over the noise. You're only able to catch the tail end, a useless tidbit about the word of the day.
pre·mo·ni·tion a strong feeling that something is about to happen, especially something unpleasant. Here is an example: "She had a premonition of imminent disaster" Have a good day folks, hope it's free of any premonitions!
Overhearing the unceasing praise of the boy who pinched your thighs until they bruise blue and purple was a little painful-but you were used to it. After all, he's putting Paradis on the map. Whatever the fuck that means.
While you didn't love sharing this class with him, he was seated far across the room and surrounded by a gaggle of friends. You might as well have been invisible, the way he did not acknowledge you. Maybe you should treat it as a small mercy.
Unwittingly, your eyelids grow heavy. You're sitting in the back of the class, no one would notice if you took a little nap right? Assured by the fact no one will notice, you lower your head into your folded arms and let your thoughts float.
You dream of vaguely nothing but shadows of smiles, tufts of dark hair, and the smell of the wind at sea until a noise confined to the shape of your name breaks the harmony.
"[y/n?]"
"[y/n?]"
You startle awake with pairs of eyes piercing their gazes at you. Swallowing thickly, you apologize to Mr.Berner who looks worried. He's a good teacher, and one of your favorites.
"I'm sorry Mr.Berner. I had a migraine so I laid my head down." You lie smoothly, with more grace than you knew you were capable of. Course, you could have just said you were taking an unprompted nap, but that would disappoint your lovely teacher.
He sighs, "Guess that can't be helped then. Go to the nurse ok?"
Bingo. The nurse was an understanding lady, she'd let you sleep the rest of the period off. You nod, and start to gather your materials, relieved the class' attention on you was beginning to dwindle.
"Wait, Mr.Berner, let me take her. What if she gets disoriented and falls in the hall?"
Fuuuuck. You should have known. You should have expected this because attached to the request dripping with faux concern was none other than the precious jewel of the kingdom. Eren's intrusion makes your peers perk up again at the scene unfolding in front of them.
You smile, lips tightly pressed, "I'll be fine. I don't want to distract anyone from the lesson and it's a short walk-
"It's still potentially dangerous.", Your teacher interrupts, pinching the bridge of the nose, "And while I'm completely surprised by Eren's sudden streak of altruism, he's right. Something could happen. He'll take you there safely."
A very convenient streak of altruism, all right. You think it over in your head, yeah the nurses' office is right down the hall, and once you're there, he'll leave. Sure, he'll taunt you but you can handle a few minutes worth of cruelty.
It's awkward getting up, and walking in front of the class while Eren props the door open like a gentleman. You know what a sharp contrast it must look like, you and him, you cowering into yourself, not meeting any eyes while he stands tall and confident.
"Do you have everything?" His tone is one of reassurance, and for the barest of the moments, feels too familiar. You know he's not being genuine right now, and for the first time, you question if he was genuine back then.
"You can hold onto my arm if you're too dizzy to walk." He says as you guys slip out of the classroom, purposefully a little too loudly. You hear coos from girls and a stray "She's so lucky!"
He must have heard it too, because he lowers his head to whisper into your ear, "Yeah, very lucky, aren't you?" Wisps of dark hair tickle your cheeks. You see the glint of tiny silver hoops and wonder when he had gotten his ears pierced. The illusion breaks and the performative charming prince's reassuring smile is replaced by a sneer.
"Didn't know you could lie like that, by the way. Some good girl you are if you're trying to ditch class like this." Fingers dig deep into your waist as he drags you along the empty hallway that seems to stretch on for miles.
Your breath gets stuck in your throat, "How did you know I was lying?"
Viridian eyes narrow, "I've seen you get migraines before." There's a knock on your heart. As if realizing he was talking about something far away ago, a vindictive edge laces into words pouring out of his mouth, "I bet you wanted this to happen, didn't you? Wanted to get us all alone."
He's trying to get a rise out of you, that much is obvious. So you ignore him to the best of your ability.
...which quickly proved to be futile, as you suddenly find your arm pinned to your back, and your front facing the nearest walls.
"I asked you a fucking question bitch." He's practically growling, "Fucking answer me."
If there was a world record for the shortest temper, best believe Eren Yeager will have collected that accolade too. He's getting too worked up, and you could definitely feel his harness poking the back on your ass, as he grinds into you.
You manage to crane your neck, wanting to have your face shoved into the wall, and then venomously spit out, "You're not looking for answers. You just want me to repeat whatever you think is true."
This position brings back flashbacks to the library when he caged you in against the bookshelves, and like then, he spins you around to face him quite abruptly.
His smile is full of sharp teeth, "No. I know I'm right."
You don't respond. He moves in closer, his breath fanning on your earlobes. Your body can't help but let an involuntary shudder, and you close your eyes, not wanting to see his pleased grin or the way the fluorescent light makes his hoops gleam like silver bullets.
One calloused finger flicks your nipple, "Do you want to know why I'm right?"
At your lack of response, the dark-haired boy rolls your nipple in between his fingers before pinching it painfully, eliciting a small whimper out of your fuckable lips. "N-no", you answer finally. You're wearing your thinnest bra because of the seasonal heat, and you can't help but regret that decision right now. The fact he's only paying attention to one of your nipples is driving you insane. Not that you want it, but you're so fucking sensitive right now. You struggle in his hold, causing him to hold you tighter, and by now his nails were probably embedded into your skin.
He chuckles at your honesty, rewarding you with a thick stripe of his tongue over the collared shirt of your uniform making you gasp. Did he just-, over your shirt too-, you look down and see a very visible wet spot.
Taking advantage of your distracted state, a eager hand snakes under your skirt until it settles in the middle of your panties. He licks your earlobe before speaking, his voice like ice under your heels.
"You were so fucking wet that day in the library while saying you hated me the entire time," he pauses as his fingers scissor you through your panties, as if to drive the message home, "About as wet as you are right now."
There's a wet spot there too, also caused by him. You crush your eyes shut, "Eren...please just take me to the nurse." You're not even struggling anymore, holding onto him out of your own accord, worried that if you don't hold onto anything-you'd fall on your knees.
The very headache you lied about having seemed not so non-existent after all.
Eren hooks his arms under the plush of your thighs, "Yeah. Of course, that's what I came to do, right?"
*
You had hoped you'd be granted a reprieve in the nurses' office but you'd forgotten that luck was never really in your favor. Because while you guys had entered the squeaky-clean office, the nurse was nowhere in sight.
Instead, a note sat on her desk in unassuming frilly cursive that Eren read with glee.
Sorry students! Minor emergency to take care of, and I'll be back by the middle of the next period. If you're badly hurt, see Mr.Ackerman in room 203. If not, just sit tight! Feel free to take up the beds.
Thank you,
Ms.Ral
Eren had turned to you with shining green eyes, "Since no one's here, I guess I'll have to keep you company. Don't want you to hurt yourself."
There was something claustrophobic about how Eren stood in front of the door as if to signify to get out of here, you had to get through him.
"Maybe I can get Mr.Ackerman..."
Eren's sudden bout of laughter makes you wince and retreat inside of yourself, "For what? A fake headache? You really wanna inconvenience him like that? Mr.Ackerman?"
You take slow steps backward until the back of your knees hit the school bed, making you stumble as you clumsily take a seat. Eren's been marching forward with every retreating step you took, and it's no surprise when he pushes you down the bed, strong hands on the side of your head, while his muscular legs force your thighs apart so he can settle himself in between.
"We have some time to kill, you know." Strands of dark hair fall into his eyes, and without thinking, you reach upwards to brush them aside.
He grips your wrist before you make it that far, nearly gritting out a "What are you doing?"
You just stare, not really knowing why that was your impulse either. Finally, you mouth out, "I want you to leave Eren."
The grip on your wrist is tighter than ever, and you very well know that you're going to have new finger-shaped bruises before the old ones even finish healing.
"And I want to stay." He punctuates each word slowly, and all you can think is how being pinned to a bed is much less painful than having the hard surface of wood digging onto your back.
You're fully aware of the heat in your core, and having Eren on top of you doesn't make this it any easier because fuck, he is attractive. Maddeningly so. And maybe you want him to go away so bad because you're afraid that if his fingers are caught inside of you, you'll thank him for it.
As if reading your mind, he lets go of your wrist (making a mental note of your sluggish movements and slipping resistance) and massages your warm hole from your panties.
"Eren please" You grit out. He merely chuckles, "What are you asking for, whore?"
You could feel tears threatening to fall. This was so embarrassing. Did you want this? Yes, yes. yes, yes. You were so wet right now and had enough of the teasing.
He alternated his kneading from slow and soft to fast and rough, and you couldn't help but let out the prettiest little moans Eren's ever heard. Since you lose all pretenses of resistance, his other hand roughly brushes against your hardened nipples, straining against the fabric of your shirt.
Okay, he decided. He's going to make you beg.
"Beg." It's announced like a command, and while you hear it, you don't really register it because your hips are busy chasing the heat, and it's all too much of an utter disappointment when his long thin fingers leave.
"I said beg slut."
"Eren, please, please. I need you so bad." You're blubbering and you don't care. You just want his pretty fingers to shove aside your panties and rub against your folds. You think back to the library, how wet you were, how the stupid fucking phone call from his coach interrupted him pumping his fingers inside of you. And you didn't know if you were happy or mad he left. But now, all you crave is the blissful wave of pleasure- the very pleasure he's been denying you.
Eren looks down at you, green eyes scrutinizing. After a long while of what it seems to be him just staring, he wipes his fingers on your skirt, brushes back his hair with a wayward hand.
"Looks like I should head back to class. See you later."
Too numb to say anything, you watch him leave with a smirk on his face. When you're sure he's walked away, you curl into yourself and cry.

——————————
The delicious aroma of chicken and rice wafted through the Brooks-Ramsey household. The couple worked side by side in the kitchen as they had all those years ago, the only difference being that it was now a dinner for five and not just two.
Allison Dolores Brooks-Ramsey came into their lives nine years ago, and while it was earlier than they would have wanted, they didn’t regret a second of their lives ever since they first heard her voice.
The twins on the other hand, were planned, but nothing had prepared them for the chaos that Nathan and Natalie would bring. A new broken object every week, a dozen fights for the TV every day, and yet were nothing short of tiny tornadoes when they joined forces.
It couldn’t be more perfect.
“What time did Jackie and Emilia say that they would bring the girls back?”
“6:30, I think.”
“Ah. So we have time till 7:00.” They shared a knowing smile. Two aunts taking their nine and six year old nieces to the mall meant a complete raid of the toy store, and a new guitar.
“You need to stop letting everyone spoil the girls just because you have a soft spot for them, Ethan. Ally’s grown old enough to understand that she has her daddy wrapped around her finger, and we don’t need Nat coming to that realisation as well.”
“I don’t- I can’t believe you would accuse me of not loving all my children equally!”, he exclaimed in mock offense.
“Mhmm. So why did I have to come up with an explanation to tell Nathan why his dad wasn’t on board with ordering dessert when he asked for it, but relented once his sisters kept bugging him for another five minutes?”
He opened his mouth in protest, but decided against saying anything for his own good. “Well what can I say? They’ve inherited their mother’s persuasiveness. And I can’t really say no to you, can I?”
Alyssa’s lips curved upwards at that. The playful look in her husband’s eyes caused her to finally break into a grin. “At least you’re self-aware.” Stuffing the rice into the bird she added, “But I can’t exactly tell our son that his dad is too in-love with his mom that he sees her in his daughters and hence can’t say no to them. He’d gag in disgust.”
He chuckled and wrapped his arms around her, resting his head in the crook of her neck. “That he would. Alright I’ll try a little harder to resist their charms. Wouldn’t want my only son to end up hating me.” He said it without a hint of worry over it becoming true someday. Over the years, he’d learned to put aside his fears of not being a good father, and with the help of some therapy, and Alyssa’s unwavering love and support, he’d locked up his insecurities in a box and let it sink to the bottom of the ocean.
They took the stuffed chicken and put it in the oven, washed their hands and plopped down on the couch for some rare downtime.
“Crap.”
“Everything okay?”
“Fred’s mom got called in, so she’s dropping Nate off on her way to work.”
Ethan sighed. “There goes the hour I planned to spend with my wife, who I barely get to spend enough time with these days.”
“I swear, you were never this busy when you were chief. I have no idea why my workload’s ten times bigger.”
“I do.” Ethan smiled with pride. “One usually does have a lot of work when they’re at the front lines of the battle for making free healthcare accessible for every single person in the country. My brilliant wife, though she could choose to leave most of the work to her very competent team, opts to take it all upon herself. So that’s probably the cause behind all the extra workload she complains about.”
She smirked and perched herself onto his lap. “Well your very brilliant wife also knows that you called my team very competent just to avoid hurting my feelings, and that you and I both know that they’ll be running around like headless chickens without me taking care of things.”
“I know, love. But you can still make them do a little more instead of working yourself to the bone while still making sure that you have at least one meal with the kids every day.”
She sighed. “Yeah, to make sure that they don’t forget what I look like.” She leaned in closer. “Besides, are we really going to spend our last few minutes of peace talking about work?”
Just as she uttered the words, the door burst open, and Nathan kicked off his shoes and jumped onto the couch as Alyssa slid down from Ethan’s lap. She shot him a look that very clearly meant What did I just say?
Ethan gave her an apologetic look and ruffled his son’s hair. “Hey buddy. How was your day at Fred’s? I know you wanted to spend more time with him.”
“I did, and we were just about to open his new LEGO set when Mrs. Watson told us that she had to run up to her office for some emergency meeting.”, he pouted. “But it was a nice day. We watched Thor: Ragnarok and Luca, and we would’ve watched another movie if his dad didn’t tell us that two movies were enough for a day.”
Alyssa shot him a mildly stern look. “Well he was right. You’re too young to have movie marathons just yet. Two are more than enough, unless you want to have a headache.”
“But mom, I’m not too young! I’m a big boy! I can swing along the monkey bars at the park faster than Natalie, and soon I’ll swing across buildings just like Spider-Man!”
“Well Spider-Man got bitten by a yucky spider before he swung across buildings. Do you want to be bitten by a gross and poisonous spider?”
“Mommy, not all spiders are gross and poisonous. Dad told me that when I was four and got scared of them at the zoo.”
She rolled her eyes. Leave it to her husband to convince her kids that insects were anything short of creepy and disgusting. In reality, they were, but as someone who ran a mile away at the sight of a butterfly, she wasn’t going to accept that.
“That’s right, Nate. Some of them are certainly very poisonous and dangerous, but that doesn’t mean that you should be scared of them. If you maintain your distance and admire them from afar, there should be no problem at all.”, he said with a pointed look at Alyssa, who just huffed in annoyance.
Nathan giggled, his brown eyes lighting up with amusement. He loved watching his parents playfully bicker. It was way better than seeing them- ugh, kiss.
“We were pretending to be superheroes and Fred used his full name for his pretend name cause it sounded cool, and it is. Fredrick Anthony Watson sounds like something from that show you and mom watch with the guys in the stuffy suits.”
“When did you see us watching the show with the guys in the stuffy suits?”, asked Ethan with a slight hint of concern. Whatever he and Alyssa watched on their free nights was definitely not kid-friendly.
“I don’t remember. Maybe a few months ago.”
Their year old puppy, Ivy, woke up from her nap and bounced into the living room to jump onto her favourite person. Nathan squealed with joy as the fluffy hair of the dog tickled his nose.
Ethan and Alyssa smiled at each other. Getting another dog after Jenner was a decision that took a lot of convincing, but their kids were responsible enough and it was impossible to say no after two years of constant pestering.
“Fred told me that he was named after his great-grandfather William, and that he was this really cool guy who saved a bunch of guys from getting mugged in a dark, dark alley.” He turned to look at his parents as Ivy snuggled into his lap. “Who was I named after mom?”
The question caught her off guard, and she glanced at Ethan for backup.
When they knew that they were having a boy, they immediately knew what to name him. They hadn't, however, anticipated Nathan Daniel Brooks-Ramsey to ask such a question this soon.
Seeing his wife at a loss for words, Ethan spoke up. “C’mere Nate.” He pulled him closer and pressed a kiss atop his head. “We once had a friend named Daniel. He worked at the hospital as a nurse, and he was close to your mom and Aunt Sienna when they were interns.”
Having found her voice, Alyssa joined in. “He was an amazing friend. He was the only nurse in the hospital who helped me out when things got messy, and cheered up Aunt Sienna when no one else could. He’d join us for picnics and movie nights, and you could always count on him if you needed something at the hospital.” She took a deep breath, and Ethan nodded. “Things were going well, but then in my second year, something really bad happened.”
“Oh no.”
“There was this bad guy, who wanted his revenge on another bad guy, and he was ready to risk his own life, and the lives of everyone around him to do so.”
“That’s horrible! Who would want to do something like that?”
Ethan smiled wistfully. “A lot of people in this world actually do. You’re a good person, so you know that it’s wrong. But some people aren’t, and they don’t care about other people getting hurt because of their actions. That night at the hospital, Danny tried to tell the bad guy that it was wrong, and to think things through. But he didn’t listen, and did something that hurt both himself, Danny, Uncle Raf, another friend of ours, and your mom.”
His little eyebrows creased with worry, Nathan asked, “What happened then?”
“He… he died. Along with our other friend, Bobby. Do you remember what we once told you about an autopsy?” Nathan nodded his head. “Well Danny asked for his body to be autopsied, and thanks to him, we were able to find out what was wrong with mom and Uncle Raf.”
He fell silent for a moment, remembering the horrors of the day, and how eternally grateful he was to Danny for being the reason he didn’t lose everything. He couldn’t imagine a life without the love of his life and his children, and he wouldn’t have either if not for the sacrifices that were made.
He looked up at Alyssa, and she squeezed his hand in support. “We’ll tell you more when you’re older, but to make it short, you’re named after a hero too. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have you, your sisters, or mom here with me.”
Nathan wriggled out of his dad’s arms, and set Ivy down so he could hug his mom as tightly as he could.
“Well… if you can hear me Mr. Daniel, I just wanna thank you. Thanks for saving my mom. I love her so much and I’m so thankful that I got to meet her because of what you did. I wish I could’ve met you, you sound like a really cool person, and I’m sure you were. So yeah, thanks. A lot.”
Alyssa’s eyes glimmered with unshed tears, and she held her son as she expressed her silent thanks along with Ethan.
What they had was precious.
Fifteen years had passed since they first met, and yet each day they fell in love a little more like they did when they held hands for the first time in the dim light of the NICU watching over little Ethan, or when she finally got to see the real him the first time she visited his place; the first time in years he let someone know a little of the worries residing deep in his heart.
With all the odds against them, it was a miracle that they survived, even more so that they managed to raise three perfect children who had more love to share than they could ever comprehend.
And they’d never forget all the reasons that made it possible for them to survive.
Ding!
The timer on the oven went off, and they got to their feet to get the chicken.
“Was he a good cook dad?”
“I… don’t really know, Nate. Your mom knew him better than I did.”
“Well there was this one time where he helped Aunt Sienna bake an amazing cake, so I guess he knew his way around the kitchen.”, Alyssa recollected fondly. It was for Jackie’s birthday, one of the few nights where the competition was completely forgotten about.
Nathan’s face melted into a glowing smile. “I love cake. So I guess I really would’ve loved him.”
She mirrored his radiant expression. “You definitely would’ve.”
“Why don’t you go play with Ivy while mom and I get the food ready? You can help us with the dessert later.”
“We’re having dessert?!”
Ethan grinned at his son’s excitement. “You bet we are.”
“Yay!” They watched as Nathan ran off to go play fetch with Ivy in their enormous backyard.
Ethan pulled Alyssa in for a sweet, lingering kiss as soon as he was out of sight.
“You’ve been wanting to do that for a while now hmm?”
“Something like that.”, he murmured as they broke apart.
She could see the ever-increasing strands of silver in his brown hair, and the faint wrinkles along the sides of his forehead, but his clear blue eyes were just as loving and devoted as she remembered from over a decade ago.
“We have a pretty good life, don’t we?”
Ethan kissed her again. “No, we have the perfect life.”

ivy (f.w.)
A/N: Here here the first piece for the Folklore/Evermore collection - ivy. This ended up being 13 pages (whoops!). It is clear in the piece that Y/N’s family, the Malfoy’s, and the Weasley’s are in no way related so, I just wanted to make sure everyone knew that! Anyway, enjoy lovelies💛!
Paring: Fred Weasley x Fem!Reader/Draco Malfoy x Fem!Reader
Show/Movie: Harry Potter
Not Requested
No Voldemort AU, but there is blood-supremacy but it’s not like in your face, it’s just because of the arranged engagement.
Warnings: Lucius being a jerk, being trapped in a loveless engagement, arranged marriage, cheating, breaking off an engagement. Lucius kills a owl, but it’s briefly mentioned.

She never saw this coming. This was not supposed to happen - any of it. She wasn’t supposed to be forced into an arranged marriage, she wasn’t supposed to be with Draco, and (most importantly) she wasn’t supposed to fall in love with Fred Weasley while she was engaged to Draco Malfoy. She could guess that she deserved this. Her life was relatively easy until now. Even when she was sat down with her parents, Draco and his parents a year following their departure from Hogwarts and told she was to marry Draco since she was part of one of the only pureblood families not related to the Malfoys at all, her life was rather uncomplicated. It wasn’t until she bumped into Fred Weasley (another pureblood her family was oddly not related to), an old friend of hers from Hogwarts, one day in Diagon Alley when she was out shopping for a new owl since her and Draco’s had died from Lucius’ spurt of anger a few weeks prior.
The second her face met the broad chest of Fred, she felt heat crawling along just under her skin, tingling through her entire body in seconds. Looking up at him, his face glowed incandescently. Soon, she found her other thoughts cloudy in comparison to the thoughts of him. Despite everything within her telling her that those tingles and clouded thoughts meant no good, she agreed to be accompanied by him to help her choose a new owl. “You know, Errol finally kicked the bucket, it was quite sad,” Fred told her as they stepped into the cluttered shop. “Miss the poor bugger.” He muttered, letting the door softly close behind him as he followed her farther into the shop.
“I’m sorry, I know how much Errol meant to you guys,” Y/N sympathized. For only living with Draco for six months, she grew oddly attached to their owl, feeling like she was the only one she could confess her true feelings about the marriage to. When Lucius had hit the bird with the curse, she felt like her heart had been ripped out of her chest, but she didn’t dare react. When he and Narcissa had left a few hours after, she had immediately run up the stairs, locking herself in her and Draco’s shared bedroom for the rest of the night. “It sucks when they go.”
Fred hummed in agreement, looking around at the multitude of caged owls around them, all clicking their beaks and cocking their heads at them as they passed. “That it does, Y/N/N. That it does,” He spoke, reaching his finger out to stick a bent knuckle between the golden bars of one of the cages. The snowy owl lunged at it, snapping its jagged beak at his finger in an attempt to bite it. “Hey!” He exclaimed, jerking his hand back away from the cage before he could get caught by the beak.
Y/N turned to look at him, snickering when she saw him clutching his hand to his chest, leaning away from the cage as he eyed the bird. “Teach you not to put your finger in a random owl’s cage, Fred.” She chastised, turning back to inspect the owl in front of her. She heard the sound of Fred’s feet shuffling along the old floorboards towards her.
“She looked friendly enough,” He defended, coming to stand beside her, bending down to also inspect the owl she was considering. She tried to ignore the rush of dizziness she felt from him being so close to her, the heat of him waving across the small space to hit her. “Who do we have here?” He asked, not noticing her switching to breathe through her mouth in an attempt to block his intoxicating smell of gunpowder and firewood from wafting into her nostrils. She could feel his gaze settling onto the side of her face, but she tried her best to also ignore that. She reached her hand out, tapping the little information tag attached to the table below where the cage sat.
“She doesn’t have a name yet, but she’s a decently young Barn owl-”
“Just like your owl from Hogwarts! Whatever happened to her anyway?” Fred inquired. Y/N swallowed, her hand fiddling with the sparkling engagement ring that sat on her left ring finger. She didn’t want to tell him the truth, but she had nothing else to tell him. She wasn’t prepared to spend the day with Fred, let alone having him ask her questions like that.
“I had to get rid of her when I moved in with Draco, Lucius’ orders. I couldn’t have any possessions of my own that should be shared between a couple. So no owl, no dishes, nothing like that.” She muttered, casting a look down at her ring, watching as it caught the sunbeams pouring through the window of the shop. It was an extravagant ring. Tiny diamonds surrounded the large oval diamond and dotted all the way along the silver band. It took up so much room on her finger that it was a bit odd-looking. She thought it was an absolutely gorgeous ring, but she much preferred simpler rings compared to gigantic ones that nearly blind you in the morning sun.
“That’s insane, your parents couldn’t have kept your things if he requires you to follow that ridiculous, archaic rule,” Fred asked, bewildered. “Does that mean you had to get rid of your favourite teacup? The floral one that your grandmother gave you?”
  “Unfortunately so.”
“Where did it go?” Fred blurted the question out immediately, a look of determination on his face. Y/N finally glanced at him again, her eyes catching on his jawline before stopping at the freckles that littered his face. His red hair burned brighter and his skin glowed in the golden rays, looking like one of the paintings you would find hanging in the Hogwarts corridors.
“I sold it to an antique store here on Diagon Alley, don’t know much more than that,” She clicked her tongue, reaching out to grab the ring on top of the owl’s cage. “I think I’ll take this lovely lady, she looks so calm,” She cooed, noticing how the owl barely shifted when she picked the cage up. “Wanna stick your finger in her cage?” She directed the last question to Fred, looking up at the older wizard with teasing eyes.
“Yeah, no thanks, I learned that lesson already today.” He scoffed, following her towards the cash in the middle of the store. Y/N let out a boisterous laugh, gaining the attention of the lady tending the cash. The older lady sat up straighter on her stool, tucking her copy of The Daily Prophet off to the side.
“Good morning, Mr. Weasley,” She greeted him kindly, reaching under the counter to grab a tin, setting it onto the counter and extending it towards the pair. “Sweet?”
“Don’t mind if I do Mrs. Echers,” Fred lit up, plucking one of the individually wrapped sweets from the tin, unravelling it and stuffing it into his mouth quickly. “Thank you.” He spoke through a muffled mouth, chewing on the taffy-like candy. The lady, Mrs. Echers, slid the tin towards Y/N, looking up at her with expectant eyes.
  “How about you dear?”
“If you insist. Thank you.” She smiled, gently taking one between her pointer finger and thumb, tucking it into the pocket of her jacket before placing the cage on the counter. Mrs. Echers put the tin back under the counter, looking between Fred and Y/N.
“You didn’t tell me you were engaged-” She paused, squinting her eyes at Fred to figure out which twin he was. Before Y/N could correct her, the lady sighed. “I’m sorry dear, I still can’t tell you two apart.” She shook her head, defeated.
“Don’t worry Mrs. Echers, I’m Fred,” Fred waved her off, looking down at Y/N with a goofy smile. “But I’m not engaged, she’s an old friend I bumped into.” He said the words with an almost disappointed voice that Y/N was sure she was imagining. Why would Fred be disappointed that she wasn’t engaged to him? He was Fred Weasley. The boy two years older than her, and her friend’s older brother. There was no way that Fred Weasley was disappointed about her getting married to someone else.
“Oh, really,” Mrs. Echers gasped, looking between them again as if she didn’t believe it. “I’m sorry dears. You guys just meshed so well together, I had just assumed,” She apologized, laying a gentle, frail hand on her chest, her shoulders drooping. “Now that I’ve embarrassed myself enough, will this girl be it today or do you need some food or anything?”
“No thank you, she’ll be all. We’ve still got plenty of supplies leftover from our last owl to do us for a bit,” Y/N told her, digging through her bag for the money Draco had given her. Before Mrs. Echers could tell her the total, she was already placing the exact amount on the table, Draco having given her just enough for any owl. “My Fiancé’s father is quite strict about how much money he should give me,” She admitted bashfully as Fred and Mrs. Echers gave her odd looks. “Very traditional.”
“Of course,” Mrs. Echers cleared her throat, sharing a look with Fred as Y/N looked down to zip her bag back up. The older lady placed the galleons into the tray before taking a piece of paper from the stack, slamming a stamp upon it. “Here is your receipt dear,” She smiled kindly at Y/N, handing her the slip. “Have a great day you two.” She waved to them as Y/N went to take the cage off the counter.
“Let me take her,” Fred told her, his hand beating her to grip the loop again, picking the cage off the counter himself. Y/N looked up at him, startled before she nodded. “See you, Mrs. Echers.” He nodded at the lady. Y/N smiled, waving in parting as she walked towards the door. The pair stepped out in the cold, making Y/N regret not wearing her travelling cloak this time round. She shivered slightly, the winter chill running right through her.
“Well, I guess I best be heading home, Draco will be wondering where I’ve gone to or if I’m buying the whole shop!” She joked, trying to take the cage from Fred, but he moved it out of the way, his brows furrowed in displeasure.
“How can you buy the whole shop if he limits how much money you can carry on you per trip?” He questioned.
Y/N sighed, dropping her extended arm. “It’s not Draco as much as it’s his father, he thinks that I shouldn’t be able to spend Draco’s money since I didn’t make it and we’re not married yet.” She explained, starting to walk along the snow-covered cobblestones. Fred scoffed, shaking his head.
  “Why don’t you just work?”
“Because Lucius says that I shouldn’t work, that Draco should be the one controlling the money and he can’t control the money if I make my own,” She disclosed, her eyes trained on the path in front of her. “But Draco doesn’t agree with him, he always tells me that after Lucius has scolded me for doing something wrong.” She was quick to defend her Fiancé.
“If he didn’t agree then he should stand up for you,” Fred pointed out, walking slowly beside her, ignoring the path in front of him - instead, he was watching her. The conversation came to a natural end with that, bathing them both in a comfortable silence as they thought. Y/N tried to not think about how easy it was to be with Fred, how comfortable and relaxed she was with him compared to Draco, the same school-girl feelings kicking up from where they had settled at the bottom of her heart like dust. “Would you join me at The Leaky Cauldron for a drink or two?” He suddenly asked, looking back at her.
She looked over at him, shocked to see him already looking at her. “I really should be getting back, besides, I don’t have any more money on me.”
“Nonsense, you are your own person and I can pay for your drinks!”
“Then wouldn’t that make this a date?”
“That so bad?” Fred wondered flirtatiously. Y/N laughed shaking her head gently, a large smile covering her face as she tilted her head to the ground before looking back up at him, the smile still on her face, her eyes twinkling.
“It would be since I am engaged to get married, I can’t really be going on dates with another bloke.” She pointed out. Fred nodded, looking away to look ahead, his lips pressing together tightly as he nodded.
“Well, if you won’t let me treat you to a few drinks on me, would you like to come to my apartment for a free drink? And if you want, you can send me some knuts for the teabag or whatever you drink if that makes you feel better.” He offered, earning another laugh from her.
“Sure, why not,” She shrugged. “But you better expect to see this owl tomorrow morning.” She teased, pointing to the owl in the cage he still held. She felt excitement ignite within her as they saw the purple painted outside of the Twin’s shop appear. She had never been in the shop since it opened, she was excited to see how much it had changed in its success.
____
Y/N sat on the couch of the grand library, a book open on her lap, but she wasn’t paying any attention to the words on the pages. Instead, her mind was on the same fiery locks she gazed upon a week ago. Even in the big, silent house, her head was filled with the sound of his voice, easing the heaviness of her heart. Before she bumped into him, she was perfectly fine playing the doting wife to Draco, to accept her fate willingly, but now she couldn’t shake the pain she felt when the thought of the life that awaited her when she got married. Suddenly, being alone in this mansion felt like she was trapped up in a tower, far away from anyone who wasn’t her family or her Fiancé and his family.
Sighing, she blinked at the page, trying to unblur the words and take her mind off the man she most certainly shouldn’t be thinking about like this. For the week following their little encounter, she couldn’t get him out of her mind, every little thought was consumed either by the feeling he ignited within her or him himself. She was sure that their meeting was an off thing, never to happen again, especially since he hadn’t sent her another letter since she mailed him a few knuts, having had to lie to Draco and tell him that she had accidentally broken something when she was buying the owl and had to replace it. Even though Lucius had berated her for a good ten minutes afterward as Draco stood back silently, she found herself willing to tell a lie again if that meant that she could just contact Fred in someway.
Two clinks against the glass of one of the large windows of the library startled her. She looked towards the window, seeing a Tawny Owl perched just outside, pecking the window. Carina, her and Draco’s owl, chirped happily, shifting on her perch, her wings flapping as she waited for Y/N to let the other owl in. “You know this owl, Carina,” Y/N asked, gently closing the book and setting it on the empty cushion beside her, rising from the deep green velvet couch. Walking through the dust particles that danced in the heat of the morning sunlight, she unlocked the window, opening only half of it enough to let the light brown owl into the house. “Come on in,” She spoke gently, watching as the owl spread its wings and glided into the room, going right towards Carina and perching itself right by her. “Is this your friend?” She directed the question towards Carina, earning a small, happy chirp in return. Giggling, Y/N grabbed treats out of the jar, leaving the window open, allowing the cold winter wind to gush into the room.
Stroking the mysterious owl’s feathers, she extended her flat hand towards it. Clicking happily, the owl took the offered treat gently. Extending her hand towards Carina, the treat was swiped from her hand. Carefully, she took the rolled up piece of parchment from the owl’s leg, unravelling it. Walking back to the couch, her eyes skimmed over the messy but neat scrawl, the sight of it making her heart jolt. Slowly, she sunk down onto the couch, but still remained poised in case Lucius decided to swing by to ‘make sure she was acting appropriately’ while Draco was at work.
  Dearest Y/N/N,
  Fred’s letter started.
You must be wondering why I still haven’t sent a reply to your letter in the past six days. I was unable to continue correspondence due to the booming business the holidays are bringing to the shop, but I also had my own mission I needed to complete before I could send any sort of letter to you.
She smiled down at the little paragraph before her eyes flowed to the next one.
I am very sorry that I couldn’t have written a more formal letter and put it in an envelope, but sadly, with how busy the shop has been, I could only manage to scribble this down on a spare piece of parchment. It also didn’t help that it was George’s turn to grab stationary this month and he forgot. But despite the lack of supplies and time, I needed to write to you.
Now, to get to the point of this letter. I am requesting your presence at either my apartment or The Leaky Cauldron. I give you the choice because I know how you feel about the idea of me paying for your drinks. Bring sickles if you need, but I beg you to agree to meet me at eleven at your choice of location.
Much love,
Fred Weasley
She couldn’t help but smile down at the parchment, her body weightless as if she was floating around the sky among the clouds. The pain and loneliness of the cold mansion vanishing. Warmth wrapped around her like a warm blanket. “He wants to meet me somewhere,” She whispered, feeling a giddiness rise within her. She tried to squash it, to push it down. It was the same giddiness she felt when he had smiled at her in the hallways back in their school years. “He probably wants to catch up some more, that’s all,” She told herself, rising from the couch once again to make her way over to the writing desk by the open window. “I would love to go to The Leaky Cauldron, but Draco would never give me money if he knew I was meeting Fred there, best go to his apartment I guess.”
She sat Fred’s letter off to the side, noticing a scrawl on the back of the parchment, making her flip it over.
P.S., This is Earl the Tawny owl, George and I’s owl for the apartment. He took quite a liking to Carina, I think they are quite good friends already.
Shaking her head, she glanced up at the two owls sitting calmly on the perch, tilting their heads at each other. “Earl, nice to meet you.” She nodded at the light brown owl. Earl looked towards her, clicking as if returning the greeting. Nodding, Y/N grabbed a piece of clean parchment and an envelope, plucking the quill from the desktop and uncapping the inkpot. Dipping the end of the quill in, she wiped the access along the lip of the bottle, a bit of black ink rolling down the side of the jar. The quill scratched on the parchment as she elegantly wrote a greeting to Fred, a soft smile on her face as she wrote.
  ____
The next day at eleven, Y/N wandered into the Twin’s shop, spotting Fred right away. Standing behind the counter, he slid a big bag of products across the counter to a tired-looking man. Her feet easily made their way towards the tall ginger, the same soft smile that she usually wore around Fred taking its place on her face. The man walked past her, the strangers sharing a greeting nod in passing. “Eleven o’clock right on the dot,” Fred commented, stepping out from around the cash, showing Y/N his deep purple suit. “Always so punctual.” He teased, crossing his arms over his chest.
“One of us has to be, and it’s certainly not going to be you, now is it?” She teased back, pushing the thoughts of how good Fred looked in deep purple. Fred chuckled at that, nodding in agreement.
“Too true, Y/N/N,” He shook his head gently, nodding his head in the direction of his apartment. “Come on, I’ve got something to show you.” He told her, turning on his heel and striding towards the stairs. Y/N followed after him, taking the shop and its contents in as she passed shelves practically bursting with all the Twin’s inventions on them.
“Should I be scared? You’re not going to try and test a product out on me like when we were in school, are you?” She posed the question nervously, eyeing Fred’s back as they climbed the stairs to get to the apartment door. Fred let out another barking laugh, glancing back at her to throw her a wink that made her knees nearly give out from under her.
“Guess you’ll just have to wait and see,” He teased, not easing any of Y/N’s nerves. Even while she was nervous, she still felt the ease of calmness Fred’s presence cast over her. Fred opened the door, stepping out of the way to let her through first. The small apartment greeted her for the second time. Though it was crowded with furniture, products, and other things, she felt something she never could feel in her house. It felt warm and cozy, like a home, not just a house to sleep in. “Take a seat on the couch, I’ll get us some tea.” Fred told her, not even feeling the need to direct her to the couch. She didn’t feel like he needed to either for she already felt like she knew the space better than she knew her own house. Shedding her travelling cloak and her winter jacket, she draped them over the back of the couch, perching herself neatly on the edge of the cushion as if Lucius would pop out of nowhere and scold her for not sitting properly.
“So what’s this thing you need to show me so bad?” She called behind her towards Fred. She could hear the clanging and the shuffling from him in the kitchen behind her, but she couldn’t hear his reply until she heard him walking up behind her.
“You’ll find out in a second, but first,” He paused, setting two teacups on the coffee table in front of them. “You have to let me sit down,” He joked, lowering himself onto the couch beside her, sitting much more relaxed than she did. He took a sip of his tea, eyeing her, waiting for her to take a sip of hers. Catching is drift, she grabbed the cup, bringing it to her lips and taking a dainty sip. Nodding, he set his cup back down and reached for a bag neatly placed by the coffee table. “Happy Christmas, Y/N/N!” He smiled brightly, handing her the gift bag. She gasped, looking at it.
“A Christmas gift,” She asked, looking at him with wide eyes. “Fred, you shouldn’t have,” She continued, but he brushed her off, placing it in her lap insistently. “But I can’t get you anything in return, Draco won’t let me.” She pointed out sorrowfully, playing with the bit of tissue paper sticking out of the bag.
“Nonsense,” Fred waved his hand in the air before pointing at the bag. “Your reaction to this gift is enough for me,” He insisted. “Now open it or I will open it for you.” With a sigh, she pulled the tissue paper out of the bag, gasping when she saw what was settled at the bottom of it. Looking over at Fred with wide eyes, she looked for a way to know that it was actually what she thought it was. Fred nodded, smiling at her reaction.
“Fred, I-I,” She stammered, reaching in to grab the item, slowly pulling it out for them both to see. “It’s my teacup,” She breathed out in disbelief, looking at the light blue floral cup all over. “And the saucer,” She exclaimed, noticing the small plate also tucked in the bag. “I don’t know what to say, this is simply amazing,” She continued to gush, gently placing it back in the bag. “Where did you find it?”
“Well, I went to all the antique stores in the Alley to see which one you might have sold it to. When I did find it, they had already sold it but turns out, they sold it to Mrs. Echers from the pet shop and so I asked her if I could buy it back for you and she just gave it to me.” He retold the story. Y/N sat the bag down on the coffee table, lunging towards him and wrapping her arms around his shoulders without thinking. She was flat against him as he held his hands away from her in a stunned shock before he let his arms loop around her waist, holding her to him tighter, his eyes closing at the feeling of her warmth.
It was the explosions of mini fireworks under the skin of her lower back where his hands rested that pulled her back to reality and caused her to pull away, remembering that she shouldn’t be holding someone like that when she was engaged. “But, I can’t keep it, Draco and Lucius would never let me bring this into the house.” She remembered sadly. For a moment, she felt like she was free from the weight on her chest, free from this marriage that she and Draco clearly didn’t want.
“I know,” Fred told her, a smirk playing on his beckoning lips. “That’s why I think you should leave it here. You can come over for tea when Draco is at work and you can use it here. Whenever you like,” He suggested, snatching the bag from the table and walking over into the kitchen. Y/N stood, following him. Her heels clicked against the floor of the apartment, not having the same empty echo they did on the floors of the mansion. “That way, we won’t lose touch with each other again.” Fred pointed out, taking the cup and the saucer, placing it in the cubert with their other teacups.
“I wouldn’t mind that,” She admitted, looking down at her feet as Fred turned to face her, the cubert door closing quietly. He gazed down at her, noticing the faint blush that appeared on her cheeks and nose. “I’ve missed talking to you.” She finally looked up at him when she was sure the rosy colour had faded, but her cheeks burned once again when she saw him gazing at her like that.
“I missed talking to you too.” He whispered. She was so wrapped up in the realization of how easy it was to talk to him, how easy it was for the pain and the stress from her life to fit in his hand as he relieved it from bearing down on her. It frightened her, but she couldn’t stop. She knew full well that she was falling for Fred Weasley again, but despite her telling herself not to, she couldn’t help but let the butterflies flutter. While preoccupied with her thoughts, she failed to notice how they grew closer together. On some level, she was aware of it and she wanted to lean closer to him, to press her lips to his, but her rational self was oblivious.
Finally cluing in, her rational self made no move to move away from him was his intoxicating scent flooded her senses. His breath fanned over her face the closer they got to each other, their feet shuffling and closing the distance slowly. She didn’t want to stop this. She wanted to do it even though she knew it was wrong. “Hey, Fred! You gotta come back down, we’re swamped-” George barged into the apartment. Y/N and Fred jumped, but they barely moved apart, their shocked faces only turning to look at the intrusion. “Oh, hello, Y/N, how’s Malfoy?” George wondered, having heard about her engagement from Fred.
“Uh, he’s, uh, good,” She nodded, her eyes darting around in panic. “He’s busy at work, but we think that will clear up after the holidays.” She sputtered nervously, stepping away from Fred hurriedly, coming back to her senses.
“Did you have something in your eye?” George wondered, watching her scramble towards the couch and grab her coat, pulling it on frantically.
  “I’m sorry?” She blinked.
“Did you have something in your eye, was that why you guys were standing so close when I came in?”
“Oh, uh, yeah,” She nodded, throwing her travelling coat over her arm and grabbing her bag. “I better go and let you guys get back to work.” She smiled towards Fred sadly, not actually looking at him.
“No, Y/N, you can stay, it won’t take long, we can have the rest of our tea when I come back.” Fred pleaded, not wanting her to leave. She shook her head, rushing towards the door.
“No, no, it’s alright, I have things to tend to at the house anyway. I’ll send you a letter, Fred.” With that, she escaped out the door, leaving a defeated Fred and a confused George behind.
Later that night, laying in the large bed, staring up at the silver moonlight lighting up part of the ceiling, she couldn’t help but think about Fred. Think about how it would feel for him to hold her as they fell asleep, think about how it would feel to kiss him, how it would feel to be wrapped up in his scent. Huffing, she turned her head, spying the dark figure of Draco laying next to her, his back to her. Even in the already large bed, she felt cramped laying next to him, but she also felt lightyears away from him. Sighing, she turned her eyes back to the glowing ceiling, her mind unable to stop thinking about Fred. She had tried so hard not to let him into her heart, not to let him plant himself into her perfectly laid plans, but here he was, slowly climbing up her tower like ivy, almost reaching her.
____
It had been weeks since the incident, and though Y/N had been around Fred, she hadn’t let herself be expressive, instead, she pushed all her feelings to the bottom of her heart and did her best to keep them there until she left his apartment. Even with the tension, their conversations flowed smoothly. But all of those meetings were alone, there was nobody else there, just them. This one was different. This one wasn’t really even a meeting. This was the Ministry’s Christmas party. Y/N was forced to go because of her Fiancé and her future father-in-law both worked with the Ministry. Fred had to go because his father and his brother worked there. The small bit of knowledge that Fred was going to be there both excited and scared her.
His presence at the party was part of the reason she chose to wear this green, wrap dress with the thin straps, and sweetheart neckline. She looked amazing in it and felt amazing in it. She wanted to feel wanted and Fred was the only one she wanted to feel that from. Draco had barely looked at her when she finally descended from the grand staircase in their mansion, too busy talking to his father about how to act at this party. Draco’s hand on her lower-back didn’t ignite the little fireworks that Fred’s did. She didn’t have the same tingling spreading through her body as she did when Fred touched her. Her thoughts weren’t clouded like they were with Fred.
Even before they left the mansion, Y/N found herself longing to have some borrowed time with Fred. She wanted to sneak away with him, seeking the relief he brought her. When they finally arrived at the party and she spotted him across the room, his eyes already on her from the second she stepped into the room, that feeling only intensified. Draco, her Fiancé, was standing right next to her. She should have wanted to have his eyes on her, to feel his touch, to stare into his eyes, but she only wanted Fred. She wanted his eyes on her, she wanted to feel his hands on her lower back, she wanted to stare into his eyes. He had consumed her finally, his ivy growing to cover her tower, reaching inside to save her from her isolation.
“Yes, Y/N and I are still planning our wedding. I’ve just been so busy with work that I haven’t had much time to work out a budget for her and mother to work with,” Draco was locked in a conversation with some old Ministry official, a conversation that Y/N took no part in. Instead, her eyes were locked on Fred across the room, watching as he talked with his twin, sipping at his champagne fluke. “What season were you thinking of having the wedding, Y/N?” Draco asked her, pulling her from her daydream.
She pulled her eyes away from Fred, looking between the man and Draco, Lucius glaring at her subtlety as if to warn her not to mess up. “I was thinking of a spring wedding-”
“A spring wedding,” Lucius repeated in an outcry. “You cannot have a spring wedding. There is mud all over the place. It’s a mess!”
“Yeah, I forgot. Maybe a summertime wedding would be better.” She corrected herself, taking a sip of her fluke.
“Summer weddings are amazing, but they get fairly warm so it would have to be an outdoor wedding,” The man nodded along. “But that doesn’t matter as long as you two are married and start having babies, that’s the main thing, right Lucius?” He exclaimed loudly making Y/N nearly choke on her champagne. The man’s exclamation gained Fred’s attention, making him look over at the group. He saw Malfoy’s arm around her waist, looking rather limp. It was as if he didn’t want to touch her. Y/N on the other hand looked like she wanted to escape his hold and escape this party in general, but she plastered on a fake smile and powered on.
“If you would all excuse me, I have to go powder my nose.” She wiggled out of Draco’s hold, none of them protesting her exit. Setting her champagne down, she exited the main ballroom, wandering through the empty halls, trying to get as far away from the party as she could. She failed to notice Fred following her in a distance, glancing behind him to make sure that nobody noticed or was following him. The slapping of dress shoes interrupted the clicks on her heels, startling her. Scared that it was Draco, she held her breath as she turned around, being pleasantly shocked when she saw Fred running towards her.
She stood there, shocked as he closed in on her, stopping in front of her as he panted slightly. “Hi.” He smiled down at her, breathless and still looking amazing in his black dress robes.
“Hi.” She said, equally as breathless just by looking at him.
“I’m sorry, I just couldn’t not tell you how great you look tonight, it just wouldn’t be right if you didn’t hear that,” He told her bashfully, stepping closer to her. “And that I missed you.”
She took a step back to create distance between them. “I missed you too, but we can’t do this here, what if Draco or Lucius saw? I would never be able to see you if they saw us.” She worried, looking down the vast hall towards where the party was, not seeing anyone. She let out a breath, looking back to Fred, their eyes connecting and her falling under his spell yet again.
“Why would that matter, we’re just friends catching up.” He asked.
“You know that we’re not just friends talking,” Y/N insisted, shaking her head. Fred bowed his head, licking his lips as he nodded, figuring that she would have brought this up sooner or later. “My life is a bloody fire and you’re the one who started it! I would have been fine being forced into this marriage, not knowing if there actually was someone out there for me to love and to love me, but then you reenter my life and that just shatters everything because no matter how hard I tried to fight this, you managed to plant yourself into my life.” She ranted, her chest heaving up and down as she started to panic, having just confessed that she loved Fred. She hadn’t even come to terms with that, let alone think about telling him that.
“And you think I wanted to do that? You think I wanted to fall in love with the woman who was already promised to another bloke? My feelings for you had never gone away and when I found out that you were engaged, it broke me, but I would rather you be in my life married to another than not be in my life at all. You think you’re the one with the problem? Think about how I feel, the woman I love is going to get married to another man and I can’t do anything about that-”
“Tell me to run.” She interrupted him, catching him off guard.
  “What?” He blinked.
“Tell me to run,” She repeated. “If you tell me to run, I will leave Draco, leave the engagement and be with you, but I won’t go if there isn’t a chance of us being together because you’re it for me, Fred. You are the one I love, the only one I love.” She expressed, waiting impatiently for him to speak.
  “I-I-”
“Fred, if you don’t tell me to run, I can’t leave. You’ll have to watch me become a Malfoy, watch me drink my husband’s wine like the doting wife I would have to be, watch me be by his side and bear his children. If I told him that I loved another, his father would destroy my house, destroy my family, destroy my owl again, destroy me. He would burn everything to the ground, but if I leave and be with you, I would have the courage to leave. But if you don’t tell me to run, then I will stay right where I am.”
Suddenly, his lips were on hers, moving passionately, their eyes closing as his tongue darted into her mouth. Pressing her against the cold stone wall, she slung her arms around his neck, pressing herself to him, her lips moving hungrily in time with his. Wedging his leg between her legs, she hiked her leg up to his hip. Her buttery smooth, dark red lipstick smudged against his lips and face as they lost themselves in each other, finally subcombing to their desires. She pulled away, panting, her head resting against the wall, her legs wrapping around his waist as she struggled to reach the ground due to his height. “So, was that you telling me to run?” She whispered, her eyes dancing between his as she waited for his answer.
“That was me telling you to run.” He confirmed, smiling down at her. She beamed, her fingers playing with the hair on the nape of his neck.
“Then let’s run and get my stuff out of that place before Lucius can even think about ruining it.” She smirked, pressing a lingering kiss to Fred’s lips.
  “But, what about Draco?”
“I’ll take care of that later, first, let’s get me out of that house.” With that, they pulled apart, Fred setting her gently on the ground before taking off down the hall towards the floo networks, their hands connected and wild laughs echoing off the walls around them.

I couldn’t help it and I wrote a self-indulgent Hawks scenario. 50% angst and 50% fluff, hope you guys like it🥺🥺
My Angel [warnings: some manga spoilers]
''Babybird, look what I bought!'' Keigo said happily, quickly opening the bag that he had with him, crossing your legs you rested your elbow on the arm on the couch and watched him with a smile.
''Is it food?'' You said, raising your eyebrows.
''Nah-uh, I'm learning to control my cravings. Damn, you made me think about food, now I want some chicken'' He stopped his actions, looking away as if he was picturing his favorite eating place, and he was ''Nevermind, check this!'' He took out the recently bought item, and you couldn't believe your eyes.
''Are you serious, Takami Keigo?'' the truth was, that you wanted to laugh at the cuteness and a part of you couldn't believe that he spent money on that.
''Yes! Are they ugly?'' he pouted ''I think they're cool'' Keigo looked again at the pair of socks, Endeavor socks. They were a kind of dark yellow, and the Number one hero's face was printed all over the material.
''No, but... I... Do you really want me to look at Endeavor while we're cuddling?'' You laughed
''I can cover my feet with a blanket'' Keigo raised his shoulders, remaining silent for a few seconds, eyes glued on the socks. ''Are they that bad?'' He furrowed his nose, looking as if he regretted buying them.
''I'm kidding, Kei,'' You gave him a smile when he sat next to you ''If they make you happy, I'm happy'' Cupping his face on your hands, you kissed his lips.
''Damn, I don't deserve you'' Keigo laughed as he placed his hands on your hip, moving his lips against yours softly without erasing the smile on his lips ''I love you, my chicken wing'' from one second to another, his body was over yours, and his mouth was leaving soft kisses on all his favorites places.
''I love you too, my angel'' You said in a whisper, caressing his wings softly''
Your body was still shivering, even as a hero some scene and news reports were hard to take. If it hadn't been for a student, it would have been the end of Hawks. The day he had fought against Dabi, you were at home, that night it was supposed to be your night, some drinks, movies, the usual before his free day. But things took a turn, and the only thing you saw on the news was how he almost died, and then the hospital personal calling you.
''What else should I bring?'' you asked the nurse.
''Anything, miss. Probably just some underwear and things like that. A toothbrush, just personal items.''
''Ok, thanks. I'm on my way''
In a bag, you saved his tooth brush, a hair brush as well. You opened his drawer and took some boxers, and then, you saw them. Those damned socks. Despite his cocky attitude, there were some traces of his personality only you got to meet, he was childish at times, got excited with tiny things. Maybe, it was because he didn't have a good childhood, and now he had the chance to buy whatever he wanted, even an ugly pair of socks of his favorite hero. Those socks were an allegory of his essence, his innocence and love for simple things, an image of how now he was enjoying those parts of his childhood he didn't get to have. Tears filled your eyes as you held them against your chest, keeping them in a bag after short seconds.
The ride to the hospital was the longest ever, and once you were there some kind nurses guided you to the back door to avoid the annoying journalists. The elevator ride was long as well, and your heart was beating fastly against your chest. Was he awake? Was he fine? All of those doubts were answered when you entered his room.
His back resting on pillows, semi-sitted and looking at the window. Lots of bandages were on his face, his torso was naked, but also covered in different types of bandages. But... Something was missing. His wings, his crimson wings.
''Kei?'' You asked softly, walking inside.
''Hey kid'' His voice was soft, so soft it was concerning.
''You scared me so much'' Fighting your tears, you sat on the chair next to him, holding his hand. ''I... I brought you your things'' you opened the bag ''Your hairbrush, teethbrush, underwear... And your socks'' Words where hard, what else were you supposed to say in a time like this?
''You brought the socks'' He laughed weakly, trying to avoid his pain.
''Yeah, I did. Thought they could cheer you up'' You said, knowing what had happened, but unsure of what to say.
''Cheer me up? I'm fine, baby bird!'' Keigo smiled, although you knew he was pretending ''It was just another fight, right?'' It sounded as if he was trying to convince himself''
''Kei... you know you don't need to keep things from me, right?'' You stand from the chair, now sitting on an empty spot on his bed, a hand caressing his golden locks.
''I...'' He drifted his eyes away from you, looking at the window one more time. And as if it were a cliché movie, a bird was flying free. You could see him, his lower lip ws trembling, and his fist was gripping the sheets tightly.
''I know'' You whispered, now caressing his face tenderly, and just there he looked at you. Crystalized eyes, still trying to put a smile on his face.  A broken one.
''I lost my wings'' Keigo finally stated. The smile lasted only a few seconds, because tears came right after. A drowned sob as he looked down and played with his hands.
''Come here'' That's all you could say, moving an inch closer and holding him against your body. His face was buried in the crook of your neck, not caring about his tears staining your skin and shirt. Your hand was playing with his hair as the other cas carefully resting on his back. Keigo's grip on your body was strong, holding you with his life. Tears leaving your eyes. ''They can grow again,'' you said ''There's a whole team trying to find solutions, I'm sure they will''
You spoke with your lips on his temple, kissing that same spot repeatedly. It was heartbreaking to see him like that, the man that was usually cocky, that was always walking around with a smile and something to say, the one who was childish and got excited over a pair of hero socks was broken in front of you, in your arms.
''What if they don't?'' He asked, a hiccup left his lips, still hiding on your neck.
''Hey, look at me'' You grabbed his face slowly, using your thumbs to wipe his tears, then caressing his stuble, forehead, and cheeks again. ''Everything will be fine, ok?'' You tried to comfort him, his image still hurting you, but even with puffy red eyes, pouting his lower lip, and the bandages and cuts covering his face he was beautiful as always ''And if the worst happens, we will work it out together'' A small smile appeared on your face, lost in his eyes. ''You will always be my angel, Takami Keigo. Are we clear?'' He nodded, and right after you pressed a kiss on his forehead.
''Thank you'' He whispered as you held him again, his body shivering and his eyes closed ''I love you. So fucking much'' Keigo said, his voice sounding a little bit better.
''I love you too, and you don't need to thank me for anything, my love'' You ended the hug, looking at him again and pressing a delicate kiss on his lips. ''You're trembling'' You said, touching his bare shouolders covered in cold sweat.
''Yeah... I'm a bit cold'' He sobbed again, calming himself.
''Come on, lets put your ugly socks on'' You gave him a smile among the tears on your face, standing up and grabbing them.
Keigo let out a small but genuine chuckle, looking at you with pure love. He was indeed, the person you wanted to spend the rest of your life with, and you were going to be by his side no matter what, even more now. His wings were beautiful, they made him strong and they were a big part of his identity, but to you... He was an angel for who he was, the cocky and childish man you loved with your entire heart, your angel. And who knows, maybe those late night flights over the city were not going to be over, all you two needed was time. And you were going to be by his side all the neccessary time.

The first thing I’d noticed about her was how self-assured she was, particularly in contrast to her diminutive stature. I’d been grabbing lunch at a local deli between classes and some high school kids were picking on a third boy who may have been a classmate. Everyone in line was just ignoring it, looking away, when this tiny redhead steps out of line and walks up to the tallest, bulkiest guy in the group and tells him to fuck off, in so many words. She barely reached his shoulder and was probably 100lbs soaking wet, but she had no problem standing up for the little guy. After I picked up my order, I noticed her sitting alone at a table near the window and asked if I could join her. She was hesitant, but agreed and listened politely while I told her how impressed I was by her bravado with those kids. That’s when I noticed the second thing about her; her incredible smile. It was like the first burst of sunlight over the horizon in the morning, blinding in its beauty. I introduced myself and learned that her name was Dana, and she had just moved to DC to accept a job with the FBI. We talked for so long I missed my class, but I didn’t care. I was fascinated by her. Aside from being strikingly beautiful with rich auburn hair and porcelain skin, her blue eyes some intoxicating shade of blue I had never seen before, she was also wickedly smart. She seemed to know about everything, any topic that came up she could speak to, and I learned more during that 90 minute conversation than I probably would have if I’d made it to class. She was a doctor, and a scientist, and even the way her voice sounded was enchanting to me, the S’s softly sibilant as they poured from her pouty pink lips. She had realized the time and stood suddenly to leave, and I was so flustered by our impromptu date ending so abruptly that I stupidly forgot to get her phone number. The sinking feeling in my gut when I realized this fact, right about the time her cab disappeared into a sea of other cabs, still ranks as one of the worst moments of my life.
I thought about her every single day for two weeks. I talked about her every single day for two weeks, until my roommates begged me to either figure out a way to get in touch with her, or shut the hell up. All I knew about her was her first name, that she had recently graduated from Stanford, and that she works at the FBI. First I tried calling the FBI and asking for Dana, but they had more than one Dana who worked there and were unwilling to let me try them one by one. Next I contacted Stanford and was able to have a list of the last two classes of graduates faxed to me. Thankfully, there was only one Dana on that list; Dana Scully. I called back to FBI headquarters and asked for Dana Scully, and the next thing I knew she was on the line, her sing-song voice saying “This is Dana Scully.” My mouth went dry, I forgot how to speak, how to breathe.
“Uh, um, hi, hello.”
“…Who is this?” Her tone was the one I’d heard her use with the high school bullies
“Uh, this is Ethan? From the deli, a couple weeks ago?”
“Ethan from the deli? The guy who’s getting his masters in journalism?”
“Yep, that’s the one.”
“Oh! Hi! How…how did you get this number?”
“Well, I hope this isn’t too weird but I forgot to ask for your number and I remembered you said you worked at the FBI, so I kind of tracked you down.”
“Oh. That’s kind of sweet.”
I let out huge breath of relief.
“I’d really like to see you again, if you’re interested. It’s alright if not, I just couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t at least ask.”
She was quiet for a moment but he had a feeling she was smiling.
“I’d love to, Ethan. Do you have something to write with? I’ll give you my number.”
**********************************
The first real date we had, I took her to a fancy Italian place that my buddies said was sufficiently romantic. She let me pick her up at her apartment in Georgetown and when she answered the door, I nearly passed out. She had on a strapless blue cocktail dress and tall black heels, her hair down and soft around her face. Her lips were red and plump and I wanted to kiss her right then, but I knew it was too soon. I held doors for her and watched closely for her reaction, unsure if she was the kind of woman who found chivalry insulting, but she seemed to appreciate it. She was so petite and delicate, like a beautiful bird, but also had this incredible air of confidence that made her so captivating. I was careful not to outright stare at her, so I didn’t make her uncomfortable. She told me more about herself as we ate, what she had studied in school and the things she was doing now at the FBI academy, working in forensics. She asked me about my school and my plans for after graduation, and she really listened when I talked, asking thoughtful questions and wanting to learn more about journalism and broadcasting, so eager to know as much as possible about everything she could. I told some stupid joke, and she laughed, and I think that’s when I fell in love with her. That laugh worked its way into my bones, vibrated in my blood stream and sent a shiver down my spine. I had to imagine that the only reason she was single was that she was so new to the area, because a woman like this was never single for long. I didn’t want the night to end, so I asked her out to drinks afterward and to my delighted surprise she suggested that we have them back at her place. I didn’t want to assume anything, so I didn’t make a move, just talked with her more on her sofa, learned about her family and her childhood as an army brat, her love of reading and bubble baths, her fondness for children and animals. When she leaned in and kissed me, I thought that I may be hallucinating. Maybe I was having an intensely long, lucid dream. How did someone like Dana Scully cross my path of all the places on earth she might have been, and how did I have the nerve to approach her, and how was she interested in me, and how was it possible that right then she had her tongue in my mouth on her sofa?
We didn’t have sex that first night, but it wasn’t too long before we did. And it wasn’t too long after that that we decided to be exclusive, and 6 months later that I told her that I loved her. Two weeks after that, she said it back, and for two years, we were happy. It’s typically the case that when you’re newly in love with someone you have that divine infatuation that makes you see everything about them as perfect, but over time it wears off and the things that were once cute become annoying. That never happened with Dana. I was obsessed with her, everything she did was the most incredible thing a human could accomplish or be. Aside from the megawatt smile and musical laugh, she had this sweet little beauty mark on her lip that I loved to kiss. She was witty and skilled at debate, and we’d spend evenings arguing over something like the moon landing conspiracy before fucking like animals over the back of the couch. And the sex. Oh my god the sex. She was an absolute vixen in the way she played, teased, and ultimately delivered on every promise she made, and she would smile in this self-satisfied way when she came, looking me right in the eye like she’d tricked me out of my last dollar. She could be dominant, or dismissive, sometimes one then the other in the same night. She could be anything and everything, and she was.
I loved to hear her talk about her work and new assignments she was getting, and I was so proud of her and her goals and dreams. I wanted to be right beside her as she climbed the ranks at the bureau, and knew that she would be anything she set her mind to. She was equally supportive of me as I graduated and then worked my way up at a local broadcasting company with dreams of being a news anchor. She made me feel important and worthy, showed interest in the things that I cared about and was so loyal to me that she cussed out one of my friends for making jokes at my expense. We never moved in together technically (her choice) but we slept together at one or the other’s apartment every night, rented a movie every Friday, had dinner with her parents every Sunday. Her sister, who she was close to, seemed to like me okay, and her friend Ellen confided in me that she thought I should propose soon, that Dana was ready for that step. I picked out a ring, a slender gold band with a princess cut solitaire, only half a karat because I knew she didn’t like to be flashy, and hid it in my sock drawer. Our anniversary was coming up on March 23 and I decided to do it then, which was a little ways away, but I wanted it to be perfect.
For her birthday, I took her out to dinner and she had exciting news to share. She’d been offered an assignment with an obscure unit at the FBI, requested specifically by Section Chief Blevins for her background as a scientist. I didn’t fully understand what the unit did or why they’d want Dana for it, but it was something about unsolved mysteries, by the sound of it. She was so happy and felt like this was a great sign, her big break, the fact that Blevins even knew she existed and wanted her on this team was an indication of the reputation she was building for herself there. I bought a bottle of champagne, told her how proud I was and that I couldn’t wait to hear more about it. She let me know there would be travel, it was a field agent role, and that she’d be on the road sometimes. As much as I didn’t look forward to being away from her, I couldn’t help but share her excitement at this new step in her career. That night we had the most incredible birthday/promotion sex you could imagine. I made her come three times before she finally tapped out and told me how much she loved me, and how excited she was for the rest of our lives together, how much she appreciated that I understood that her career was important, and that I supported her. If we would have been at my place, I would have grabbed the ring and proposed to her right then, but we were at hers. So I just kissed her and told her that I was the luckiest man on earth because I had the opportunity to be her partner in life.
The first day of her new assignment, she was nervous. She’d heard some stories about the agent she was going to be working with, her partner, a guy named Mulder. He sounded like somewhat of an oddball, and a ladies man to boot. I made a joke about him staying away from my woman and she rolled her eyes, had me help her choose between the plaid suit or the maroon one, kissed me goodbye and told me that she loved me and I didn’t need to worry about this or any other male agent, or male person for that matter, stealing her away. That afternoon at the station I got a message from her saying that she had to fly out to Oregon for a case they were investigating, which caught me by surprise. She had said she’d be on the road, but I didn’t expect it to happen that fast. I heard from her only once in the three days she was gone, and when she came back, she was different.
It’s hard to explain in what way she changed. She was distracted, spacey, staring into nothing when we watched TV in the evening, not really listening to what I was saying when I told her about my day. She told me a little bit about the work she was doing, but she was suddenly guarded and defensive about what she did all day, most of her sentences starting with “Mulder says...” The phone would ring at odd times, she worked late or was out of town almost constantly. I felt her slipping away. I did all I could to make things easy for her when she was home. I did all the cleaning, all her laundry. I cooked her dinner each night, though half the time she would say that she had already eaten with Mulder. She didn’t seem as interested in kissing or sex, but she would let me go down on her and I did, every night, trying to hold on to her attention and her affection with my tongue on her clit. I tried to talk to her, to ask her what was wrong, if I should be doing anything differently, and she’d say “no, of course not. Everything’s fine, I’m just tired.”
Then it was our anniversary, and I made a reservation at the same place we’d gone to that very first time. I picked up flowers for her, dahlias which I knew she loved. I went by her apartment at the agreed upon time, but she didn’t answer the door. I used my key to enter and it was quiet and cold, no sign she’d been there anytime recently. I called her office at work and Mulder answered, said she was up at Quantico performing an autopsy and could he take a message. I just hung up the phone. I went to bed at her place, and when she finally crawled in at 3am she was startled to find me there. The way she looked at me made me feel like she’d forgotten I existed, and I didn’t even bother to remind her that it was our anniversary. I decided to start fresh the next morning, with a new plan. Maybe I was being too demanding, expecting too much. Maybe this Mulder was difficult to work with and she didn’t want to bother me with horror stories. I would just have to be the most supportive, accommodating, wonderful boyfriend possible, and we could come through this together. When I woke up, she was still snoring softly beside me. I slipped my head under the covers and pushed her legs open gently, sliding her nightgown up over her hips. She stirred and moaned as I pressed my lips to her clit, kissing her there before beginning to lap at her labia, two fingers sliding inside just how she liked it. She responded readily, flexing her hips and pushing her hands into my hair, and I flipped the blankets off my head so I could see her face. I loved the way she liked to watch me, to hold my eye as she went over the edge, so intensely intimate. To my disappointment, her eyes were closed, head back against the pillow. When she came, she didn’t look at me, didn’t say anything. I crawled back up to lie beside her and when her eyes met mine they were so full of sadness it sent me into a panic.
“Dana, what’s wrong?” I implored, seeing tears welling under her blue irises.
She shook her head and scooted up so that she was sitting with her back against the headboard.
“Ethan-“ her voice caught under a sob that she quickly swallowed down.
My stomach dropped. No, this can not be happening.
“Ethan” she began again. “I care about you so much.” Tears were falling now, trailing down her alabaster cheeks and dripping off of her angular chin. “I just don’t think I can give you what you need right now.”
My mind was racing, I looked around the room like there might be something, or someone, who could help me.
“I think it might be best if we took a break for a bit. Took some space from each other.”
I sat up on my knees and grabbed her arm, suddenly regretful that I had chosen to sleep naked.
“Dana, what are you talking about? We don’t need space. I don’t need space from you!”
She closed her eyes. “Ethan, it’s not fair to you. I can’t be available to you right now. My new assignment, I’m just so busy-“
“No, it’s okay, Dana. I know you work more now but I don’t mind, I’ll always be here when you come home. I support you, I support your work, you know that.”
Pulling her arm from my grasp, she stood and went to her dresser. Pulled on panties and then jeans before stripping off her nightgown and putting on a bra and sweater. “Ethan. Please don’t make this harder than it needs to be. It’s just not a good time for me, right now.”
“Is it that Mulder guy? Is he making moves on you?” I hated how desperate my voice sounded.
“No, Ethan. This has nothing to do with Mulder, he’s been nothing but professional. This is about me, and what I need right now. What I’m capable of. And I’m just not in a good place for a relationship, I’m sorry. I need some time.”
She was standing near her bedroom door, leaning against the wall with her arms crossed. She was ready to walk out.
“How much time? How much time do you need?”
She looked at the floor and whispered “I don’t know.”
I slid off the bed and went to her, dropped to my knees on the floor, wrapping my arms around her hips as I pressed the side of my head into her belly.
“Please don’t do this. We can work through it. I love you, I love you so much. I’ll do whatever you need, just tell me.” The humiliation of begging on my knees while nude makes my skin crawl to this day.
She put her hand on my head, petting my hair as she often did. I felt hot tears drip from her eyes and fall against my scalp. “What I need is for you to let me go” she finally said, and she sounded very sad but also very resolute.
“I’m going to go to my mothers for the day, and I’d like you to pack up the things you have here. You can leave your key on the table. I’ll call you soon, to see how you’re doing, okay?”
“Dana, no, I won’t let you go. Please let me try to make this better.” I clung to her like a child, physically keeping her from leaving me. She crouched down and kneeled in front of me, taking my face in her hands. She kissed me softly on the lips, once.
“You have been a wonderful boyfriend, Ethan. You have loved me so well. I don’t want you to think that this is your fault, okay? You are the best. I just can’t be with someone right now. I know you’ll be okay.”
She stood and walked out of her apartment, pausing once at the door to look back at me, naked and destroyed on the floor in her bedroom doorway, and then she was gone.
She didn’t call me, not in a day or a week or a month. She deleted me from her life like a file she no longer needed. I didn’t know how to explain to my friends what had happened, because I didn’t really know myself. I thought about her every day, ate at restaurants around her work and apartment hoping to catch sight of her, so we could chance a meeting and maybe she’d be willing to talk. When I finally did see her, it was at a sandwich shop a few blocks from the Hoover building. She walked in looking like…well an FBI agent. Now in a black, tailored skirt suit that fit her perfectly, her hair cut shorter and more styled, her heels tall and her posture confident. A man was with her, and my stomach turned at his hand on her back, the familiar way they stood close as they waited in line. He was remarkably tall with dark features, handsome in a kind of mysterious way. I wondered if that was Mulder, assumed that it was. They sat down and I watched her face, the intensity in her eyes and the curl at her lip, recognized the way her features danced as she talked about something she found interesting, the rapturous way she listened while her male counterpart spoke. I remembered when she used to look at me that way. She must have felt my eyes on her because she looked at me suddenly, registering surprise and then sadness, offering me a tiny wave as the man turned to see who she was looking at. I gathered the rest of my sandwich and chucked it in the trash can as I stalked out, suddenly having lost my appetite. I wanted to hate her, to be angry at her betrayal, her abandonment. I wanted to hate him, for taking her from me. All I could muster was the same hallow acceptance that I had my chance, and somehow let it slip away. I just hope that he appreciates her smile as much as I do.

Marinette and the Runaway Assassin
~
Marinette Grason and the Runaway Assassin
The first thing they could remember was always flying.
Their parents always told them that the first thing a Grayson ever did was fly.
Whether it be him tossing his sister in the air as she did flips, or flying on the low swing trapeze with his mother and father. they were born soaring.
Their family was the best of the best. Humans with the agility and grace of birds. Their family never stayed on the ground for long. Nothing could keep a Grayson on the ground.
Until they fell.
Their wonderful parents never flew again.
~
Dick was trying his best to keep it together, for his sister, but the pain was almost too much. He was just 16. What was he supposed to do now? He wasn’t of age to care for Marinette and he certainly didn't have much money at all.
It was two days after the fall that killed their parents. Dick had cried himself to sleep, so full of grief, stress and uncertainty the night before. He wanted, no, needed to keep his sister safe, but what were they supposed to do? Live on the street? Marinette deserved better than that. Not to mention her schooling. There was just so many things he needed to think about he had no idea if they’d ever even survive -
A knock sounded at the door, startling Dick from his thoughts.
“Excuse me,” a deep voice came from behind the door, “I would like to speak to a mister Dick Grayson.” With those words the pit inside his stomach grew. It was probably some social worker coming to separate him from the only family he had left.
Dick opened the door and saw a large man with dark hair and blue eyes in a suit, “If you’re here to take me and my sister to some orphanage, leave now. It’s not going to happen. Get lost.” Dick, the normally polite boy, ended his statement by quickly closing the door.
“Wait!” The man jumped in, using his foot to jam the door. “I’m not a social worker. Mister Grayson I presume?” Dick just narrowed his eyes and nodded his head, “My name is Bruce Wayne. I was hoping to come to an arrangement that would greatly help you and your sister.
Dick had the urge to scoff, but he let the man, Bruce, continue.
“You see, I lost my parents at a young age as well. I want to make you and Miss Marinette my wards. You two would both get to live in my manor with your own room and have all the things you two would need to live a happy life. And you would not be separated. This can all happen effective immediately, as soon as you say the word. So, What do you say?”
This was insane. It was everything he and Mari could need. They could lead a normal, safe, and good life. There were so many goods that could come of this and yet…
Graysons are never tied to the ground my little robin. We must never be afraid to spread our own wings and soar. We are free spirits and we fly our own way.
With only that thought in his head, his ressove hardened.
“While I appreciate the offer Mister Wayne, I’m afraid I have to decline.” He began, “My parents used to say that we should never let ourselves be tied down. They were free-spirited and loved to travel. I want my sister and I to continue their legacy.”
Bruce looked a little shocked at this, and also a bit put out., but he quickly covered it with a determined look of his own.
“I see. If I cannot assist with housing, please let me help in any other way possible. Money is no issue, I can promise you that.” Bruce looked so ready to help them. And hell, if they couldn't use the help.
Dick was at a loss for words, “I- Mister Wayne- I can’t thank you enough!” Marinette would get to have the life their parents would have wanted for her. He didn’t have to worry about money any more. They could be free and go where the wind would take them. This flood of relief he felt did ease his grief a little for only a moment. It was one weight lifted off his shoulders.
“It’s the least I could do Mister Grayson.” He nodded, looking a bit relieved himself.
“Please, call me Dick Mister Wayne.” At that Bruce’s mouth quirked upwards the tiniest bit.
“Only if you call me Bruce.”
~
Over the next few years, Dick and Marinette went everywhere imaginable, traveling with the circus.
Eventually they decided to travel at their own pace. Marinette instided they spend more time in their favorite countries. They spent a few months in each, both gathering a love for each culture and language. Marinette especially took a bit of every country with her, absorbing each like a sponge.
Without the circus to keep them active in their travels and with barely any means to keep themselves protected, Dick and Marinette accumulated a mesh of different fighting styles. Neither ever truly mastered one, but both fought in a way very specific to them.
~
Currently somewhere in Italy, the two were waiting for one of their mentors to arrive for a meeting.
“Duckie!!” Marinette, now nine, ran to her brother with that particular spark in her eye, “Duckie! Guess what!”
Dick, smiled a little at the familiar nickname, “What’s up Nettie?”
Marinette jumped up and down excitedly. “Look what I can do!”
The small girl smiled and ran a little ways into the field nearby and did three handsprings to the shock, and pride of her brother.
“Good job Marinette,“ A voice that was not Dick‘s called from behind them, “I’m glad to see that you are improving well.”
An overall average looking man in his late 30’s wearing a firm, yet warm expression walked towards them.
Their mentor, Malachi Dobraski.
“Uncle Chi!” The Marinettw siblings voiced, running to him.
Malachi’s mouth turned upwards at the sibling’s outburst. “Yes, yes I have finally arrived. You two are, of course, ever so humbled to be in my presence.” There was a stretch of silence before the three burst out in laughter.
“Wonderful to see you two as always.” He said as he bent down to give Marinette a hug.
“So what did you need Malachi? You never call meetings so early in the month.” Dick said as he turned to face him.
Malachi hummed in an impressed manner, “Very astute Richard. I asked you here today because I wanted you to meet a friend of mine I had mentioned earlier. Gina, If you remember.”
At the mention of the woman Marinette perked up, The one who travels all around the world like us? We really get to meet her?” She topped off her questions with a wiggle of excitement.
“We’ll have to see about that Nettie.” Dick spoke fondly as he smiled at his sister’s antics. He then turned his attention to Malachi, “Will she be in town soon? You’re rarely one to throw out praise for no reason and you’ve spoken highly of her in the past.”
“She is a lady well deserving of my praise, Richard. To answer your question, yes. Ms. Gina will be in town Thursday evening.” their mentor said with another small grin.
Dick hummed while tapping his chin, “That’s about two days from now. Unfortunately me and Mari probably won’t be able to meet with her right away. We’re tied up until Saturday I believe. Will she be in town for long?”
“Gina is a free spirit, so it’s hard to say. However she has been interested in you two since I mentioned I was taking students again. I expect she’ll stay long enough to meet you.”
“That’s great!” Dick said, as cheerful as ever, “That settles it then.”
“Yay! We get to meet aunt Gina!” Marinette exclaimed, jumping up and down.
Instead of correcting his sister, Dick just shook his head with a laugh. Why does everyone we hear of instantly become family?
~
Marinette sat at a tall table in a quiet cafe. Her tiny legs swung eagerly underneath her as she hummed to herself. Her brother was up at the counter ordering their drinks. She was sketching, or trying to. It was really hard to focus when she was so full of jitters.
Today was the day they were supposed to meet Ms. Gina and while Marinette was excited, she was just as, if not more, nervous. She has always been this way with new people.
————————
That is the end of what i have written BUT NOW the outline:
Section One
Dick is older in this 16/17
Mari is 5 or 6
They grow up with their parents, until they die, again.
Dick is old enough to be emancipated/take custody of Mari
(Bruce didn’t adopt them but he helped Dick get emancipated and gave them loads of money)
Their parents were free spirits and loved to travel
Dick decides they should keep that alive.
The two stay with the circus traveling for around a year
And they continue to travel for 1 or 2 years
They meet Gina
Dick kinda wants to settle down Gina recommends Paris
They go to Paris
They get an apartment (thank you plot convenient Bruce money)
(she’s around 10 or 11 now. He’s 19 or 20 now)
Dick wants Mari to make friends or get a feel for regular school so she goes to FD
Section Two
Separately, Damian and the league are in turmoil (the coup happens)
Thalia might die Idk
Damian, not knowing what else to do, flees to Paris?
Tom and Sabine have always wanted children but were never successful
They find this aggressive child on the streets of course they take him in
Damian would grumble about their ‘lower status’ but would of course be secretly grateful and surprised at the unconditional love and care he receives from T and S
Section THree
Back to Mari
Being raised by Dick, she learned to be true to herself and also headstrong
She takes no crap from Chloé
(She eventually learns of her situation with her mother and they become less aggressive towards each other)
(she also learns a lot of different skills and fashion things)
Section Four
Damian arrives at FD
(He’s like 10 or 11 Mari is like 11)
Damian and Mari are both ahead of the curriculum (Both home schooled) same class
She is her kind self, doesn't know anyone else well and Dami is another new kid.
They stick together out of a sort of necessity
He’s cold at first but (go figure) he softens for her eventually
They slowly grow closer as friends
Dick becomes another behaviour mentor and Brother esq figure to Dami
Dick also sees Daminette’s in love right away
He teases Mari about it
Bada Boom they're 13 now
Section Five
Miraculos canon GO
Mari gets ladybug Dami gets cat
Mari doesn't get a crush on Adrien (the gum incident doesn’t happen because Chlo and Mari are on better terms)
Mari and Dami both immediately recognize each other in costume
Mari’s outfit is black with red detailing sans her cape/glider that’s full red with the five black spots. Has deep red boots that go up to the knee. Her ribbons are longer and can detach to use as a makeshift ribbon dance things (she also goes by Ladybird instead of Ladybug)
Damian’s outfit is his assassin outfit but black and tan undertones with cat ears (his pupils don’t change to slits) Damian goes by Leopard
Dick notices a change immediately He confronts Mari, She caves and tells him too
(She consequently reveals Damian’s Identity as well. No one could have that kind of chemistry with Mari that quickly)
He signs her up for many martial arts classes (She already had training in a few, picking up a lot from her travels)
Damian also helps train Mari in some ~Assassin Skills~
Basically, they’re bad asses.
The only thing stopping them from defeating Hawkey boy quickly is the fact that they can’t find where he is
Section Six
Moving on, Salt
Lila happens
Lila still sets her sights on Adrian (he’s got money at this point Damian is just a baker's boy to Lila.
Lila isolates the two from the rest of the class, even more so than they already were
Damian thinks the class are even bigger idiots
Lila is still an awful person and wants to make both Dami and Mari’s live miserable
Lila tries to go to Dick about Mari “bullying” her
He laughs in her face (he choses laughter instead of seething anger. thanks Hawky)
Lila then tries to get through to Tom and Sabine about Damian
This time it works, they have less reason to trust Damian (and he was also a major prick when they first took him in
(this happens over a year or so. Lila slowly gaining the trust of the class and Tom and Sabine)
The environment gets very toxic Dami and Mari decide to leave the school and go to online schooling (like at college level)
Section Seven
Time skip. They are 16 now
The two have had feelings for a while, they now realize them
Dami is less emotionally stunted, having both Dick and Mari around (Tom and Sabine too but they kinda suck now) so he doesn’t panic much
Mari is full panic mode
Dick is just in the corner all smug-like. (“you didn’t know you loved him? I’ve known this for years”)
Que pining
Lots of pining
There’s some angst, Tom and Sabine are negligent towards Damian (not mean but still neglectful)
He ends up staying with Dick and Mari more often than not
Eventually they both confess after a particularly rough akuma battle (the one where mari becomes the guardian?)
Both of them almost watched the other die. That was too heartbreaking for either of them to not confess
So they are together now.
It was an easy transition, they were already married pretty much
They’ve already figured out who Hawky boy is. They just need evidence
They get evidence. They also discover Lila was working with him
They take care of the Hawkmoth situation
Section Eight
Everything is good now right? Wrong
Batman Finally goes to Paris once Hawky is defeated,
(he kept in touch with Dick all these years and knew what was going on, {He practically became their “uncle Bruce”} He only stayed away cuz Hawkmoth)
When Damian sees Bruce visiting Mari’s House he freezes,
Mari: “what's wrong Dami?”
Dami: *whispers in her ear*
M: “He’s your WHAT???”
D; *whispers more*
M: “I- You- Um- WHAT”
D: *walks up to Bruce* “Hello, I know this is an odd way to meet but I am sure you know of Thalia Al’ Ghoul.” *B nods wairily* “Yes, well, I am your son. And unfortunately hers as well.”
“Yes, I’d be perfectly happy to do a blood test.”
Dick and Mari are shook
“Damian, You must come to live with me in Gotham”
Dun
Dun
Dunnnnnn!!!!!
End Part One
Again I am sincerely sorry I was not able to complete this story in time. Like I said before, I will (maybe/probably) be finishing this and planning a part two! I hope you enjoyed! (even though it’s the first fanfic i’ve written)

Blossoms on a Bough
Fix-it/filler for the end of episode 36!!!
~
The first thing Wen Kexing notices, once his mind has floated up towards any sense of consciousness, is a bright cool light shining on his face. His brows twitch downwards in irritation, the intensity of it stinging his eyes even while they are still closed. His body feels like lead, and his thoughts are thick and muddy. He just wants to ignore the light and drift back off to sleep.
Wherever he is, he seems to have landed on something relatively soft and warm. It is surprising, since his general ideas about the netherworld involve darkness and cold, but he is certainly not going to complain. Perhaps, given the long list of his transgressions, his soul flew right past the Yellow River and dropped straight into hell, and now he is being fried in a pot just like that chicken that had chased Chengling around the Four Seasons Manor. The thought makes him want to laugh, but there is an odd tightness in his chest, so the best he can manage is an incredibly weak cough.
A faint rustling of cloth sounds by his ear as whatever he is reclining on shifts slightly. There is a vague sense of presence nearby, but he cannot tell more than that. Almost against his will, he cracks his eyes open to see who might be trapped in the stew pot with him, but there is only a dark looming blur surrounded by pale watery light. It makes him think of Zhou Zishu; his face bathed in sunshine, in moonshine, in starlight. He always seemed to glow with something intangible and dream-like. And Wen Kexing -helpless little month- could do nothing else but follow after it.
“Ah Xu,” he exhales in the barest of whispers.
A scent lingers in the air around him, crisp and lightly musky. It reminds him of burying his fingers in long dark tresses. Of the tenderness and care taken combing the tangles out of them afterwards. Of sliding his own hair pin into the carefully twisted knot at the crown of Zhou Zishu’s head. He should have brought him a different one to replace it, he thinks blearily. The key was most likely lost or broken in all of that snow, and now he will have nothing to remember him by.
This place is strange, wherever it is. Soothing and disorientating all at once. Is it some sort of hallucination? Did his soul get lost somewhere between life and death? Is he a true ghost now, doomed to wander the world in hopeless despair, witnessing joys he can no longer take part in? Thoughts spin around in his head in a billion tiny fragments. He cannot quite seem to catch hold of any of them, or arrange them in a pattern that makes sense.
“Am I dead?” he wonders aloud, his voice thin and raspy, not expecting an answer.
“You fucking better not be,” a cross reply rumbles out from somewhere above him.
Wen Kexing blinks. The sun still burns his eyes, but after a few moments of intense squinting, the dark blur leaning over him reconfigures itself into a familiar and beloved face. Zhou Zishu, leaning back against a dusty wall with Wen Kexing pulled more than half way into his lap.
“What…happened?” Wen Kexing wonders, head positively spinning in bafflement. Now that he is waking up a bit more, he is becoming more aware of his body’s aches and pains. It feels like a horse kicked him in the chest and then he fell into a river and drowned. Even wincing hurts.
“Something went wrong with the ritual,” Zishu tells him. His voice is raw and his eyes are bloodshot. He looks as haggard as Wen Kexing feels. “You collapsed. Your heart meridians were severely damaged, and your hair turned white. You must have used too much of your internal force. It has been more than three days since you lost consciousness and…I thought…”
His voice splinters and he trails off, looking away from him for a moment.
“But…it worked?” Wen Kexing presses, trying to feebly grip at Zhou Zishu’s sleeve, “You can hear me talking again now, so that means that it worked, right? The rest is fine, so long as it saved you.”
“I’m here, aren’t I?” Zhou Zishu answers, the first traces of a smile pulling at his lips.
“Yes. You are here.” Wen Kexing echoes, as though he still cannot quite believe it, “And…I am here, too.”
“You are.” Zishu confirms, his arms tightening around him, carefully tugging him up until he is all but leaning into his chest. “It was a near thing, though. My medical knowledge is limited, and even with the Yin Yang book, I was not certain that I could heal you.”
“Rong Xuan’s wife allegedly used the teachings in the book to heal his heart meridians and other serious injuries when he was near death several times over,” Wen Kexing hums thoughtfully, casually tilting his head against Zishu’s shoulder, “But she was an experienced physician. You have had no training, and yet you saved me on the first try. You must possess some kind of natural affinity for it. Ah Xu, you have so many talents, I am having a hard time keeping track of them all.”
“It had nothing to do with affinity,” Zhou Zishu huffs, sounding exasperated and perhaps even the tiniest bit embarrassed, “It was pure dumb luck.”
“Eh?”
“The Four Seasons Sect has a special technique that cripples someone’s heart meridians,” he explains somberly, a humorless smirk on his face, “I used it against Prince Jin to keep him alive, but bedridden. My master taught it to me, and as far as I know, I am the only one left alive who knows how to perform it.”
“That is very interesting, Ah Xu, but I am not certain I understand what it has to do with dumb luck,” Wen Kexing says smilingly.
“My master…he also told me how to counter the technique, so that the person’s heart meridians could be healed again and their qi could flow properly,” Zhou Zishu continues, turning his head slightly to directly meet Wen Kexing’s gaze. “I did not have much hope when I opened the Yin Yang book. You were slipping away, and there was no time for in-depth research. But…when I found the section detailing how someone with damaged meridians might be cured, it was obvious that…the techniques I learned from my master were based on this knowledge.”
“So…that means…my parents…?” Wen Kexing looks a bit lost at the revelation.
Zhou Zishu nods.
“It is likely that Lady Yue Feng’Er and your parents shared this precious knowledge with their friends, and possibly even helped my master develop this skill. I was only able to save you because of this.”
Wen Kexing furrows is brows, his thoughts whirling and his emotions complex. He seemingly stares at the dark blue of Zhou Zishu’s lapels for what feels like ages, looking but not seeing, pensive and moody. Finally, he lets out a very tired-sounding sigh.
“And I only managed to save you because that dumb bastard Rong Xuan stole the manual for the Six Cultivation Techniques,” he says, sounding bitter, “But maybe no one would have needed all this saving in the first place if that old monster had never let his idiot disciple leave the mountain to begin with.”
Zhou Zishu frowns down at him.
“I know, I know,” he mumbles, a bit sulky, “The past is past. Zhao Jing was punished and the rest are dead. There is no point stewing on it now. I have just…been angry about it for so long, sometimes I forget that I don’t have to be anymore. Be patient with me, Ah Xu.”
“Hm?” Zishu blinks, as though suddenly coming back to himself. “Oh, it wasn’t about that.”
“Then what?”
“I was just thinking that…it really could not have been anyone else,” Zhou Zishu tells him slowly, intensity burning in his dark eyes. “I said it was only dumb luck, because I never believed in destiny all that much before. If you want to achieve something in this world, you have to be willing to create it for yourself. But…for things to end up this way… It had to be you, and it had to be me, didn’t it?”
Wen Kexing bursts out laughing, utterly delighted.
“I always knew you had a soft heart beneath that tough exterior,” he grins, slightly breathless, with an almost pleasant ache in his ribs, “But Ah Xu, I never imagined that you were secretly a romantic.”
“Shut up,” Zishu grunts, pinching his arm until he yelps, “Who is romantic?”
“Ai, there is no need to be shy about it now, is there?” Wen Kexing says pleadingly, giggling to himself all the while, “There is no one here except us.”
“That’s right,” Zhou Zishu agrees blithely, a truly terrifying expression stealing across his face, “There is no one on this entire mountain except for you and me.”
“Ah Xu, don’t do anything rash,” Wen Kexing cajoles with a hint of genuine nervousness, “I only teased you a little bit, and I am still in such a delicate state of health. If you throw me out in the snow and beat me, I really won’t be-”
Zhou Zishu kisses him then, and whatever he won’t be promptly flies out of his head like a startled flock of birds.
The kiss is softer than he would have guessed, if he had gotten a moment to anticipate it. Clumsy, but tender. Hasty, but sincere. The mouth pressed so suddenly against his own trembles just slightly right before it pulls away. A thousand years too soon.
It is nowhere near the first time they have kissed each other, but Wen Kexing is almost always the instigator. It suits his own preferences to take the lead in most physical forms of intimacy anyway, so he would never complain about it. However, it does make the times Zhou Zishu reaches for him first feel more…something. Something that makes his heart full, and his eyes itch.
It makes him feel as though he is not only being accepted by this man, but chosen by him, too. As his partner. As his equal. As his friend. Lovers and soulmates and all the rest.
Wen Kexing is not certain that anyone else has ever chosen him before.
Not when there were other, better, options on hand, at any rate.
He swallows thickly, gazing up at Zhou Zishu with wide, startled eyes. Little flecks of cold mountain sunlight catch in the dark sweep of the other man’s hair almost like snowflakes. His grin is wide and fierce. Buoyant and hopeful in a way he has never been in all the time they have known each other. He looks impossibly beautiful, and horribly pleased with himself for managing to derail Wen Kexing’s usual babbling. There might be the slightest touch of pink to his ears, though.
“Ah Xu,” Wen Kexing chokes out.
I love you.
But the words get stuck in his throat.
“What?” Zishu laughs, “Do you ever get tired of calling me?”
“No.” Wen Kexing offers him a weak smile in return, shifting out of his hold a little so they can sit facing one another.
Zhou Zishu heaves an exasperated sigh, but his eyes remain bright, his expression one of incalculable fondness.
“Is that all you were saying during the ritual?” he wonders, half joking, “You just sat there calling my name?”
“Huh?”
“You said earlier that you had tried speaking to me, but my hearing had gone,” Zhou Zishu reminds him, “What did you say?”
“Oh, yes, it was mostly just your name over and over,” Wen Kexing nods, “Plus a few embarrassing personal anecdotes I felt like sharing. Once I knew you had no way to stop me, I really couldn’t help myself.”
“Lao Wen.”
“Yes, Ah Xu?”
“After all we have been through together, what could you possibly still have to tell me that you think I would be unwilling to hear?”
Wen Kexing makes a face, caught outright.
“It…is not so much a matter of thinking you would not hear me out,” he admits carefully, “It is more that there are just things that are difficult to say to someone. The more important they are to you, the harder it gets, so between you and me… But when a man feels his end has come, all sorts of things seem to tumble out unwillingly.”
Zhou Zishu looks positively stricken.
“You could tell that the cultivation technique was backfiring?” he hisses out, gasping Wen Kexing by the shoulders, “And you still kept going?”
“What else could I do?” Wen Kexing asks helplessly, “If I had stopped wouldn’t we both die? Would it be better if I had starved to death with your corpse in my arms? Besides, that old monster promised me that this technique could save you, so no matter what the cost was going to be, of course I-”
“So, you knew there would be a cost already?” Zhou Zishu cuts him off, expression like a brewing storm cloud, “You knew this was likely going to injure you, and you did not even think to warn me first? We could have prepared beforehand! You could have looked through the Yin Yang book and point out things that I could use to help you in an emergency! Dammit, Lao Wen, I thought you were supposed to be smarter than this!”
“Was there really time for things like that?” Wen Kexing argues back, “Your senses were already dying out one by one, if we did not try the technique as soon as possible, you might not have been able to complete it! If I told you how risky it is, would you agree to it? Would you still let me try to save you?”
“I deserve the right to make that choice!” Zhou Zishu shouts hoarsely.
“You do!” Wen Kexing agrees just as hotly, “But I owe it to Chengling to save his family. And I owe it to our master to save his teachings. And I owe it to you most of all. I ruined your chance at happiness. To rebuild the Four Seasons with Chengling and the other new disciples. You threw it all away to try and avenge me… The number of people in this world who have been good to me are few enough to count on one hand. I would do anything for them, and you most of all. How could I live without repaying this debt?”
“And what if I hadn’t been able to save you?!” Zhou Zishu demands thunderously.
“I didn’t expect you to save me!”
For a few moments, the words seem to echo of the cold walls of the armory, bouncing back at them over and over. The silence that follows after them is deafening. Zishu’s eyes are red, and his hands are trembling on Wen Kexing’s biceps, but he looks as though he is about to breathe fire.
“Good,” he says finally, his voice low and deadly, “Very good. You feel like you owe me so much, but all you want to do is torture me.”
“What?” Wen Kexing baulks, “No! Ah Xu, that’s not what I-”
But before he can finish the thought Zhou Zishu has already pulled him into a bone-crushing embrace, his breathing erratic, and his face buried in the side of his neck. Wen Kexing makes a pained grunt, his ribs still tender from previous injury. It only makes Zishu’s grip on him tighten, however, holding onto him with a furious desperation.
“In such a short stretch of time, I have had to see you dead or dying before my eyes over and over again,” he mumbles thickly into the silk of Wen Kexing’s robes, “You spent all this time chasing me down, pestering me to let you stay by my side, begging me not to die, and telling me to find things to feel hopeful about. But now it seems as though you are set on leaving me behind.”
“I never wanted to leave you,” Wen Kexing protests, but his voice seems to have lost all of its strength, “I just wanted to keep you safe. Even if I died, and you had to be sad for a while, you have so much left to live for, and I wanted you to have it. I just wanted you to be…happy.”
“Bastard,” Zhou Zishu laughs wetly, “Wen Kexing, you really are…the absolute worst sort of person.”
Wen Kexing sags in his embrace, his heart plummeting down into the pit of his stomach. His head droops, white hair falling across his eyes. Utterly defeated.
“I know.”
Zhou Zishu finally pulls back from him. There are obvious tear tracks down his cheeks, but he still looks fierce, regardless. He takes Wen Kexing roughly by the chin, forcing him to meet his eyes.
“You are also…my happiness.”
Wen Kexing gapes at him, for once in his life completely at a loss for words. Seeing an opening, Zhou Zishu takes the opportunity to kiss him again. Harsher this time. Brief and chaste and biting. It does not seem to help the other man’s sense of bafflement in the slightest. Indeed, Lao Wen looks as though his soul might have just flown straight out of his body.
Zishu smiles at him again, but there is still something sharp and wounded at its edges.
“Eternity would be an empty place without you,” he says quietly, “How could you leave me to bear it alone?”
“I…I’m…sorry,” Wen Kexing sputters, as though he does not know what else to say. He finally reaches back for Zhou Zishu, cautiously taking hold of his wrists. The ache in his chest seems to have spread outward, and he is shaking so badly that he fears he might not be able to sit up straight much longer. “I’m sorry. I just did not… I did not know how else to save you.”
“Mn,” Zhou Zishu nods in understanding, “I suppose I can forgive you for it this time, although some part of me still would like nothing so much as to throw you outside and beat some sense into that thick skull of yours.”
“I will accept any punishment you want to give me,” Wen Kexing tells him earnestly.
“Alright,” Zhou Zishu grins, “Then pay me back with your whole life. Stay alive, and stay with me. Always.”
Wen Kexing blinks in surprise, but the next moment he is laughing. Dizzy with relief and unexpected joy. Marveling at the gifts that fate has blessed him with after so many years of hatred and heartache.
“I can do that.”
~
When Zhou Zishu wakes up later that night Wen Kexing is sitting at the opposite end of their makeshift bed in nothing but his under robe. His back is facing him, and he takes a moment to stare at the snowy cascade of his hair. The living proof of what Lao Wen would sacrifice for him. It looks beautiful on him, as everything else seems to, but Zishu thinks he prefers the rich dark brown that he was born with. This new color comes with a twinge of guilt.
Not that he would ever say so.
“Lao Wen,” he calls softly, “What are you doing?”
Wen Kexing’s shoulders stiffen in surprise.
“Don’t come over,” he replies, “I’m not finished yet.”
“Ai,” Zishu grins, scooting close enough to lightly tug at a few strands of that bone white hair, “But that just makes me want to come over even more.”
“I have a knife,” Lao Wen says coolly, “I will use it if I have to.”
“You left our bed in the middle of the night to play with a knife?” Zishu laughs, not intimidated in the least. “Why?”
“If you stop pestering me for a few minutes maybe you’ll find out,” Wen Kexing snaps. Zhou Zishu is not fooled, though. He had caught the sharp inhale of breath when he had said the words ‘our bed’, and he is all but certain that Lao Wen’s threats are empty.
“But you’ll catch cold,” he coaxes, slipping his arms about his waist and pressing a kiss into his shoulder. He obligingly resists the urge to peek at whatever secret Wen Kexing is fiddling with, though. The other man sighs, but does nothing to discourage him, as expected.
“The next time you accuse me of being insufferable, I want you to remember this conversation,” Wen Kexing says wryly.
“It must be your bad influence,” Zhou Zishu chuckles.
Wen Kexing hums noncommittally, going back to whatever he had been working on before. Zhou Zishu sits patiently behind him, leaning into the warm curve of his back, listening to the steady beating of his heart and the faint scraping sound of a blade chipping away at something. The proximity is comfortable, and the quiet almost meditative, and before long Zishu is already half way back to being asleep.
“Alright,” Lao Wen says finally, carefully pulling himself free of Zhou Zishu’s arms and turning to face him, “You can look now.”
Zishu has to shake himself a little to wake up again, but once he does, he finds that Lao Wen is holding out what appears to be an oddly shaped icicle.
“…What is it?” he asks after a few moments of trying to puzzle it out for himself.
Wen Kexing frowns.
“It’s a hair pin,” he tells him, as though it should be obvious.
“Ah.”
“What do you mean, saying ‘ah’ with such a doubting face?” Wen Kexing huffs in annoyance, “Of course it is a hair pin, what else would it be? You lost the one I gave you before, so now I have to give you a new one to replace it.”
“I lost the one you gave me before?” Zhou Zishu laughs.
“That’s right,” Wen Kexing nods seriously, “But I promise not to be mad about it.”
“Philanthropist Wen is too kind.”
“It’s true,” Lao Wen sighs dramatically, “People are always taking advantage of my generous nature.”
He firmly places the hair pin in Zhou Zishu’s hands. Upon closer inspection, it looks to be roughly shaped like a tree branch. There are two lumpy circles that might be meant to be flowers attempting to bloom from it. The finished product is crude, but the ice is clear and crystalline. Pretty, even despite the skill level of the craftsman.
“It is meant to be plum blossoms,” Wen Kexing admits somewhat sheepishly, “One bloom for each of us. There was meant to be a bud for Chengling, too, but I accidentally broke it off. Hopefully, that is not an inauspicious sign for him.”
“I see,” Zhou Zishu says, because he does see, and just like the morning he had woken up to find the Four Seasons Manor cleaned and Wen Kexing diligently repairing his master’s old painting, he feels very much like he wants nothing more than to pull the other man into his arms again.
“Ah Xu, will you accept it?” Wen Kexing asks, slightly trepidatious at his lack of reaction.
“Of course,” Zishu smiles easily, “But it’s made of ice, after all. If I wear it, it will likely melt or break in a day or so.”
“If it breaks, I will just make you a new one,” Wen Kexing says, his eyes soft. He plucks the hair pin from Zhou Zishu’s fingers, reaching up and carefully sliding it into the loose knot at the base of his ponytail. “I can make you a new one every day, if I have to. With any luck, they will eventually look less ugly.”
He takes Zhou Zishu’s hands in his own.
“There are still things I am not good at saying,” he tells him, “Things that I want to share with you. Things that you deserve to hear. Right now, my skills are not enough, but just like with the hair pin, if I keep working at it every day, eventually I can give you something worth having.”
Zhou Zishu tugs him down into his embrace. He thinks about kissing him. About pushing him down and pulling his robe open and showing him, again, how very much he is wanted. But Lao Wen is still recovering from injuries, and it would be a shame to snap his new hair pin tussling around in the sheets. So, he makes do with holding him close, for now. Tangling his fingers in hair the color of starlight.
“Say them, or don’t say them,” he says quietly against the shell of Wen Kexing’s ear, “Whatever they are, they have no bearing on your worth to me.”
“Doesn’t that seem like my current value is lower than mud?” Wen Kexing laughs nervously.
“It means you are treasured,” Zishu corrects him firmly, “There is no price that I would sell you for.”
“I suppose that means I can stop living in fear that you would truly try and sell me to a brothel.”
“You really are a brat.”
“Ah Xu?”
“Hm?”
“I love you.”

Petrichor
aka the long-awaited Sad Buffy Fic™️ 🐶 This got smuttier than I’d planned, but what else is new lmao
Also: Canon compliance? Don’t know her (I also don’t fully understand the schematics of Alex’s house, but let’s just pretend I do).
Also on AO3!
(Oh, and Happy Season Four Renewal!)
***
“Your dog’s a little weird, dude.”
Alex sighs. “Yeah, I know.”
Outside, his beagle Buffy has been frantically running around and barking at the air for the last thirty minutes. There’s not a squirrel or bird in sight.
“Is she always like this?” Kyle asks, turning away from the window that faces Alex’s backyard to look at him.
“No, usually she’s pretty mellow,” Alex says, passing him a cup of coffee. He takes a sip from his own mug to stall before he finally admits, “She only gets like this when it rains.”
“Huh,” Kyle says, considering it for a moment before he adds, “Layla always hated the rain. Remember when we used to have to bribe her with peanut butter to get her to go on walks if it was too cloudy?”
Alex remembers. Kyle’s childhood German shepherd was usually fearless, but put her near any liquid that wasn’t in her water dish and she’d run with her tail between her legs.
If only it were that simple with Buffy.
“It’s not the rain that’s making her do that,” he explains, looking down into his mug. “Well, I guess it is, but not—not like you’re probably thinking.”
Kyle processes that a moment before he speaks up.
“Are you gonna tell me what’s up, or am I gonna have to guess?”
Alex sighs again. “She misses Michael.”
Kyle looks skeptical. “How do you know?”
Because I miss him too, is on the tip of his tongue, but Alex hesitates. As melancholic as the rain makes him, he’s not interested in spilling his guts over it.
“Because Michael smells like rain,” he says instead. “It’s an alien biology thing, apparently, but you probably would know more about that than I do.”
“Oh my god,” Kyle says, eyes wide and sympathetic. “Are you saying she’s looking for him out there right now?”
Alex nods. “She’ll give up in about an hour, but, yeah. She smells rain and she thinks he’s home.”
“That is so fucking sad.”
“I know,” he sighs, and turns around to go find a seat on the couch.
“Like, Sarah McLachlan in those ASPCA commercials level sad,” Kyle continues as he follows him, taking a seat on the other side of the couch. “Wait, did you guys adopt her together? Like, as a couple?”
Alex considers how to answer that. “No. We were together—I guess as much as we ever were—when I got her, and he went with me to pick her up from the shelter, but she’s not—he didn’t adopt her with me. He was just around a lot when I first brought her home.”
“Mmm, I see,” Kyle says, understanding. “Maybe you should call him.”
“What?” Alex asks.
“You know, invite him over,” Kyle says, like it’s obvious. “Ask if he wants to come play with her a little.”
“What?” Alex asks again, looking at him like he’s grown a second head.
“Look, I may not be a veterinarian, but you don’t need years of specialized training to see that your dog misses her dad,” Kyle says.
Alex raises an incredulous eyebrow.
“Well, her other dad,” he amends a moment later.
Alex shakes his head. “He’s not—That’s ridiculous.“
“Is it? He was here when she was a puppy, man,” Kyle counters. “They’ve clearly got a strong bond if she’s missing him that bad.”
Alex knows he’s right, but… he can’t just call Michael and ask if he wants to come play with Buffy.
Sure, he and Michael have been on good terms lately—great, even, now that they have a common goal and have learned how to actually communicate without having two totally different conversations.
But, months ago now, Michael asked him to stay away. He told Alex he didn’t want to be with him anymore, that it hurt too much, and Alex understands that, really he does, and he’s been trying so hard to maintain the boundaries Michael wants while still being there for him any way he can.
And if he invites Michael over right now, it won’t be because it’s something Michael needs from him. It’ll be because it’s a miserable, rainy day, and Alex and his adorably stupid dog miss him.
And if Alex is being honest with himself… he doesn’t know what he’ll do if he calls Michael and Michael says no. Not right now, not when Michael’s absence in his life, in his home, feels like an ugly, gaping wound.
“Just think about it,” Kyle says. “You never know, maybe he’s been missing her too.”
When Kyle leaves an hour later, Alex registers the quiet and realizes Buffy’s stopped barking. Finally, he thinks, until he goes to the back door and sees her slumped up against the glass, looking absolutely fucking miserable.
“Fuck,” he says, with feeling.
He opens the door and scoops her up off the ground. She’s a little wet from the start of the drizzle, but once she rests her head on his shoulder and huffs despondently he can’t bear to put her back down. He takes her over to the couch and draws the blanket around the both of them, hoping he can cheer her up with enough kisses and pats.
With the smell of Michael so thick in the air, he’s not surprised it doesn’t work.
He stays there with her until hunger beckons him toward the kitchen to make both of them dinner. When Buffy won’t touch her kibble, Alex scoops some leftover grilled chicken, rice, and veggies from his own plate into her bowl. It works, thankfully, but when she’s done she curls up on the floor with a sigh and Alex’s heart breaks just looking at her.
He ends up lying down on the floor next to her, his head cushioned by a pillow he dragged off the couch. The rain really starts coming down outside then, and Buffy starts to whine.
“I know, baby girl,” he says, curling more tightly around her. “I miss him too.”
He’s not sure how long he stays there before his phone buzzes in his pocket. He fishes it out to see a text from Kyle.
Did you call him yet?
Alex sighs and rolls onto his back, his hip aching with the movement. He stares at the ceiling for a long moment, weighing the pros and cons, until Buffy huffs a huge, sad sigh again and he just can’t fucking stand it anymore.
“Fuck it,” he says to himself and takes out his phone again.
He doesn’t end up calling Michael. Instead, he texts him a picture of Buffy without a caption.
His phone vibrates a minute later.
Aww, why’s my girl look so sad?
Alex isn’t proud of the noise he makes when he reads that. He types his response, then deletes it, and then types it again. Nerves coil tight in his stomach when he sends it.
Kyle seems to think she misses her other dad. Wanna come over?
Alex drops his phone on his chest so he doesn’t stare at it. It’s another long, long minute before his phone buzzes again. He takes a breath before he reaches for it.
Michael’s reply is just three words.
On my way
Buffy barely lifts her head up off the floor when there’s a knock at the front door. Alex walks down the hall to answer it, massaging the tight muscles in his right thigh as he goes. He straightens up when he reaches the door and opens it to find Michael standing there, looking gorgeous as ever in a dark green flannel that’s unbuttoned practically to the middle of his chest, his curls a little damp from the rain.
“Hey,” Alex smiles, stepping aside to let Michael in. “Thanks for coming.”
“How could I say no to that cute face?” he replies, but the way Michael looks him over as he says it makes Alex wonder whether he’s actually talking about Buffy.
He doesn’t have long to ponder that particular nugget of information, though, because once Michael’s voice carries into the house, Alex hears the frantic sound of Buffy’s nails scraping his hardwood floors. Michael gasps a little theatrically when Buffy rounds the corner, barking as she barrels toward him at full speed down the hallway.
“Hi, baby girl,” he coos, crouching down to her level.
When she’s finally in front of him, she spins in excited circles at his feet, barking and panting while Michael pets her everywhere he can reach. It takes her a minute, but eventually she stops moving long enough to prop herself up on Michael’s knee so she can alternate between licking his chin and staring up at him with abject love and affection, her tongue lolling out of the side of her mouth.
It’s the happiest Alex has seen her in—God, he can’t even remember. He’d feel a little put out about it if he didn’t understand it on a deeply visceral level. When she looks up at Alex as if to say Look! He’s back! Alex can’t help but bend down to pet her too.
For his part, Michael seems similarly affected. “Oh, I know, baby, I missed you too, I missed you too,” he’s saying with a wide smile. His eyes are wet when he looks at Alex and Alex’s throat grows tight with feeling.
Did Michael need this as much as Buffy did? Alex wonders when Michael breaks eye contact.
“Oh god, uh, Alex?” Michael says suddenly, pulling him from his thoughts. “I think she had an accident.”
Alex spots the small puddle beneath her when Michael gets his hands under her arms and lifts her up onto her back legs.
“Shit, I’m sorry, hang on,” Alex says, making for the kitchen. “Make sure she doesn’t step in it!” he calls back on the way. He grabs the paper towels and some cleaner from the cabinet under the sink and heads back into the living room. “Sorry, she’s just excited,” he explains when he gets there.
“So I gathered,” Michael says, but there’s no hint of annoyance in his voice or on his face.
Alex cleans the mess quickly, and by the time he’s thrown out the used paper towels and washed his hands thoroughly Michael’s found himself on the couch in Alex’s living room. He’s lying back against the couch with Buffy on his chest, scratching right behind her hears as he talks to her.
Seeing them like that reminds him of the first week they brought her home. He has a photo of the two of them sleeping on the couch together, her tiny head stuffed under his chin, and Alex’s heart aches remembering it. He wishes he’d been strong enough to tell Michael what he wanted. Maybe if he had, Michael wouldn’t be rebounding from his short-lived relationship with Maria and Alex and Buffy wouldn’t both be missing him so fucking bad all the time.
“Alex?”
“Yeah?” Alex asks, realizing he’s been standing there in silence for a few minutes.
“You okay?” Michael asks as he gives him an assessing look, his hand paused on Buffy’s back.
Alex realizes this is the first time in a long time that anyone’s asked him that.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” he lies, on instinct more than anything else. “You want something to drink?”
“I’d love a beer,” he says, and Alex welcomes the opportunity for a tactical retreat.
“You got it.”
He collects himself in the kitchen while he grabs two beers from the fridge, uncapping them before he walks back into the living room. Alex hands Michael his beer on his way to sit down on the other end of the couch.
“Thanks,” Michael smiles as he takes the bottle Alex offers. Buffy sniffs the bottle when he goes to take a sip, but Michael holds it out of reach and explains, “No, this isn’t for puppies.”
Alex can’t help but laugh as he props his left elbow on the back of the couch to watch them.
Michael takes a long pull from the bottle and then sets it down on the end table next to him so he can keep petting Buffy uninterrupted.
“She really did miss me, huh?” Michael wonders aloud, as if the very idea that someone would is novel or unbelievable.
“Of course she did,” Alex says, placing his beer on the coffee table and scooting closer so he can pet her with his right hand. He doesn’t quite realize until it’s too late that he’s put himself right next to Michael, his right bicep almost brushing Alex’s chest. He studiously keeps his eyes on Buffy as he adds, “She loves you.”
Out of the corner of Alex’s eye, he sees Michael’s mouth turn up in a soft smile. “I love her too.”
They chat idly while Buffy soaks up Michael’s attention—Michael tells Alex all about a new experiment he’s working on with Liz that has exciting implications for something Alex would need at least two astrophysics degrees to understand, and Alex shares that he’s been keeping himself busy with music again, much to Michael’s delight.
After years of going back and forth between fucking Michael and fighting with him, it’s nice to just talk to him for a change.
The conversation makes its way back around to Buffy when she shuffles her way up Michael’s chest to fit her nose right under his chin, her eyes drifting shut for a nap. When Michael laughs and drops a kiss on the soft patch of fur between her eyes, Alex’s finds the strength to take Kyle’s advice.
“Look, I, um,” Alex starts, shifting on the couch, “I was actually thinking maybe you could… come around sometimes. To play with her.”
“What, like visitation?” Michael asks with an eyebrow raised. “I get joint custody on the weekends?”
Alex can’t help but laugh. “You make it sound like she’s our kid.”
And, wow, he should not have vocalized that thought because as soon as the words are out of his mouth Alex is hit by a whole fucking wave of feelings he does not have the time nor the ability to unpack right now, and by the look of it so is Michael.
“Hey, you’re the one who called me her dad,” Michael points out, a second too late for it to sound completely casual.
“Technically, Kyle did,” Alex flushes, but gestures to where Buffy is snuggled into his neck, finally at peace. “But look at her. She misses you.”
“Just her, huh?” Michael asks, so quietly that for a second Alex thinks he’s imagined it, but then Michael’s hand slides down from the back of Buffy’s neck to cover Alex’s own where it’s resting on her back.
Alex’s mouth goes dry. He chances a look at Michael, and what a fucking mistake that is because Michael’s honey-gold eyes are staring right at him and Alex forgets how to breathe.
“You miss me, too, Alex?” Michael asks, something that sounds a little like hope in his voice.
Alex looks at Michael for a moment, his head and heart at war the way they always are when it comes to him.
“Yeah,” Alex finally admits, a bone-deep exhaustion hitting him as the confession crosses his lips. “I do.”
Michael nods, processing that. “I miss you too,” he says after a long minute, his thumb stroking over the back of Alex’s hand, and Alex fights against the urge to pull his hand away because this doesn’t just feel important, it feels fucking monumental, but how can he even think with Michael touching him like that?
“Stop,” Alex begs softly. “Please. If you don’t mean it, or if you’re not ready, I need you to stop.”
When Michael doesn’t say anything, Alex closes his eyes, the inside of his bottom lip caught tight between his teeth to keep from losing it. He’s felt like he’s on the edge of something all day and Michael sitting here, teasing him with the offer of more, it’s just too much.
Alex feels Michael let go of his hand, feels Buffy disappear from under his palm, hears his leather couch squeak under Michael’s shifting weight and fuck how has he fucked this up already, he’s barely even said anything—
Alex flinches when he feels the warmth of Michael’s palm against his cheek.
“Alex,” he whispers. “Open your eyes.”
Alex does, swallowing hard as he meets Michael’s gaze, his eyes shining with tears.
“I mean it,” Michael tells him, his expression sincere.
“You do?” he asks hesitantly.
“Of course, I do,” Michael says, leaning in to gently knock their foreheads together. Alex’s heart aches at Michael’s closeness, the familiarity with which Michael touches him. He never thought he’d get to experience it again. “God, Alex, I miss you so much I can’t breathe sometimes, I—”
Alex closes the distance between them without a second thought, finding Michael’s lips as warm and soft as he remembers. He pulls back a second later to apologize for cutting Michael off, for moving too quickly when he’s not even sure what exactly Michael wants, but Michael just makes a hurt noise low in his throat and follows after him for another taste, and then another.
Michael presses further and further into his space until Alex’s back hits the couch cushions with a soft thud, the top of his head brushing the armrest. Alex pulls away from Michael’s mouth with a slick sound, and as he gasps for air, Michael attaches his lips to a tender spot beneath his jaw and sucks, igniting a fire low in Alex’s belly that threatens to consume him.
He can feel himself getting hard as Michael worms his way even closer. He guides Alex’s left leg to rest against the back of the couch as he settles his solid weight between his thighs, continuing to pepper his throat with wet, sucking kisses all the while. It’s not until Michael dips his tongue into the hollow of his throat that Alex’s hips lurch upward of their own accord, seeking the kind of relief only Michael can give him.
“Michael,” Alex moans, eyes slipping closed as his restless fingers weave into Michael’s curls.
Michael hums his response and slips his hands under Alex’s ass, encouraging him to grind their cocks together through the fabric of their jeans. It’s rough and hot, too much and not nearly enough, and along with his spiking pleasure comes the daunting thought that they’re moving too fast—that they’re about to make the same mistake they always do.
“Fuck, wait, we should—“ he begins to protest, but Michael interrupts him, groaning unhappily against the neckline of his t-shirt before he lifts his head to look at him. Alex’s eyes skip down to Michael’s mouth automatically, that tempting shade of pink making it very hard to remember what he was thinking two seconds ago.
“Don’t tell me what we should do,” Michael begs him, drawing Alex’s attention back up his face, to where his eyes are wide and more than a little desperate. “What do you want?”
Alex stares at him as that question hits his ears, a “What I want doesn’t matter” already on the tip of his tongue before his brain even catches up with him. He’s spent so long carrying those words in his head and in his heart that he barely notices their weight anymore—not until it’s Michael staring back at him and offering him everything he’s ever dreamed of.
This time’s no different, and Michael must see it on his face because the look in his eyes softens along with his voice as he asks again, “What do you want, Alex?” He reaches up to cup the side of his face, his thumb brushing featherlight across his cheekbone. “I’ll give you anything.”
Alex swallows roughly, his eyes burning with tears he can barely hold back.
“You,” he answers, perhaps more honest than he’s ever been. His voice trembles as he adds, “I just want you.”
A brittle smile breaks out on Michael’s face, his eyes shining in the lamplight before they flutter closed as he leans back down to kiss him again, slow and deep and wet.
Heat starts to simmer between between them once again, the soft press of Michael’s mouth and the tease of his tongue driving all other thought from Alex’s mind. Michael works his hands slowly under his t-shirt and Alex hardly notices it happening until Michael rolls his thumb over one of his nipples, sending a jolt of pleasure straight to his groin.
Alex groans and shivers at the sensation, using his prosthetic—planted firmly on the floor now—for any traction he can get to press his hips up into Michael’s lap.
Michael smirks against his mouth, and Alex can’t help but catch Michael’s full bottom lip between his teeth in retaliation, making Michael whimper so sweetly that Alex lets him go and soothes the bite with his tongue almost immediately.
Michael gives him one last kiss before he pushes Alex’s shirt as far up his chest as it can go and dips down to latch his mouth over his right nipple. Alex sighs and drops his head back against the cushions, his cock thickening even further as Michael teases it into a hard bud with his lips and teeth and tongue, playing with the other between his thumb and forefinger. He tugs it between his teeth and Alex gasps, arching his back and pressing his chest more firmly against Michael’s mouth.
After a few more minutes of teasing, Michael starts a slow slide downward, trailing wet kisses along the way as he charts a path down Alex’s belly toward the wiry hair peeking out above his belt.
“You want my mouth, ‘Lex?” Michael asks before dragging his tongue along the sensitive skin just above the waistband of his jeans.
Alex’s stomach clenches as he pictures it—Michael going down on him with singleminded focus, looking up at him beneath his lashes as he sucks on the head before taking him deeper, sinking down until the tip of his cock is snug inside his throat. He’s always looked so good with his head between Alex’s thighs.
His cock throbs painfully at the thought, desperate for Michael’s attention, but there’s something else on Alex’s mind right now, something he wants with a ferocity he can’t quite put into words.
“I do,” he says, softly tugging Michael’s hair to get his attention. “Up here.”
Michael stares at him a moment before he gets it, confusion fading as a fond smile takes its place. He slithers up Alex’s body until he can hover over his face.
“You want me to kiss you when I make you come?” Michael asks him, rubbing his nose along Alex’s cheek.
Alex nods, not trusting his voice.
Michael presses a soft, almost reverent kiss to his cheek.
“I can work with that,” he says, moving closer to his mouth. He kisses him again, not more than a peck, before he sits up and leans back, resting his weight on his knees between Alex’s spread thighs.
Alex mourns the loss of warmth, but he soon forgets it as Michael strips his flannel off his back and tosses it haphazardly behind him, revealing his toned chest and stomach. His mouth runs dry just looking at him and he quickly follows suit, yanking his bunched up t-shirt over his head and letting it fall gracelessly to the floor.
He starts on his jeans next, but Michael’s hands bat his out of the way, one cupping his cock through the denim while the other undoes his belt with practiced efficiency. He teases his crown with the tip of his finger for a torturous moment before Alex groans and he gets with the program, tugging Alex’s jeans and underwear down his hips just far enough to free his cock.
The relief Alex feels at no longer being so constricted is instantaneous, and Michael takes full advantage of the situation, curling his fingers around his shaft and thumbing through the moisture glistening at the tip. He spreads it down the length of him as he starts to jerk him off, not firm or quick enough to make him come, but enough to make the pleasure that’s been building inside him since they started this flare hot and insistent.
Alex catches his bottom lip between his teeth to keep from crying out as his hips twitch upward, fucking his cock into Michael’s grip. When he tears his gaze away from where Michael is playing with him, he sees honey-brown eyes staring back at him.
“What?” Alex asks, flushing under Michael’s attention.
“Nothing,” Michael smiles, shaking his head. “You’re just really fucking pretty like this.”
Alex scoffs at that, but it only makes Michael more insistent.
“You are,” he says defiantly, squeezing his cock a little on the upstroke. Alex tries to bite back the moan building in his throat, but it’s easier said than done. “I mean, you’re always pretty, but when I’ve got my hands on you? Shit, ‘Lex. You don’t know what you do to me.”
“Oh yeah?” he shoots back, eyes drifting south toward the dark spot slowly bleeding through the front of Michael’s jeans. “Why don’t you show me?”
Michael rises to the challenge, letting go of Alex’s cock and getting to work on his ridiculous belt buckle. He shoves his own jeans and underwear down his thighs as quick as he can and seconds later Alex feels Michael caging him in as he covers his body with his own, pressing up into his space to kiss him just like Alex had asked him to.
He feels Michael’s cock poking into his belly, smearing precome against his skin, and Alex hooks his leg around him to bring him closer until their cocks are trapped between them. Alex breaks the kiss for just a moment, just long enough to lick his palm before he slips his hand down his belly to wrap his fingers around them both, making a tight, wet channel for them to fuck into. The sticky mix of spit and precome isn’t nearly as smooth as lube, but it’ll do.
“Uh, fuck,” Michael groans against his mouth as he begins to rock his hips forward in a slow, steady grind. “Been a while since we did it like this, huh?”
Alex hums in agreement as memories of the two of them in the back of Michael’s truck, rutting together on a makeshift mattress that smelled faintly of weed, flash through his mind. A lot’s changed since then, but the drag of Michael’s cock against his still feels just as good.
Michael starts to thrust in earnest then, and Alex’s burns with every slide of his cock against him, with every eager kiss Michael presses to his mouth. His heart is pounding against his ribs and blood is rushing in his ears, nearly but not quite loud enough to drown out all the perfect little sounds Michael keeps making in the back of his throat.
It’s not long before it all overwhelms him and Alex shudders as he comes, his balls drawing up tight and cock pulsing hot and wet between them. He gasps into Michael’s mouth, too far gone to remember how to kiss properly as his pleasure washes over him, inexorable as the ebb and flow of the rising tide and strong enough to pull him under.
Michael follows him a moment later, moaning sharply against Alex’s cheek as he spills over his fist, adding to the mess Alex made. Alex jerks him through it, milking him for all he’s worth until he hides his face in Alex’s neck and starts to whimper, overstimulated. Alex lets him go then and focuses on catching his breath as the last of his pleasure fades.
Michael’s the first to move, bumping his way back toward Alex’s mouth to kiss him again, lips raw and slick where they brush against his mouth. Alex cradles his cheek with his clean palm to hold him there as they trade kisses, neither one of them quite ready to break the spell that drew them back together. Alex loses himself to it, so much so that he barely registers the quiet patter of claws against wood drawing nearer until Buffy hops her front paws up onto the edge of the couch and starts to lick his cheek.
Alex makes a rather undignified noise at the sensation of Buffy’s tongue on his face—not to mention the smell of her breath—and Michael laughs against his mouth before he pulls away to look at her.
“I’m sorry, princess, were we ignoring you?” Michael coos, and Alex isn’t proud of the way Michael’s low, rasping voice makes his spent cock twitch.
Michael reaches over the edge of the couch, feeling around on the floor for a moment, until Alex hears a sharp squeak. Buffy barks happily, lowering down on her front legs and wagging her tail, and Michael throws one of her brightly colored toys as far as he can across the room.
“That ought to buy us 30 seconds,” Michael says, leaning up between Alex’s spread thighs. Michael’s bare chest shines as he reaches over for the box of tissues sitting on the coffee table, sticky with sweat and come. He grabs a few for himself and then offers Alex the box.
Once they’re as clean as they’re going to get, Michael zips up his jeans and gathers their dirty tissues to throw them out. Alex likewise tucks himself away and sits up on the couch, nervously awaiting Michael’s return.
He’s just reaching for his shirt on the floor when Michael comes back, his head cocked to the side as he looks at him curiously.
“What are you doing?” Michael asks, the corner of his lips pulling up into a lopsided smile. Alex gives him a questioning look, but Michael only steps closer and plants his hand on Alex’s chest, pushing him gently to lie back down. “I’m not done with you yet,” Michael explains.
Alex raises an eyebrow, but Michael just settles on his chest once more, tucked between Alex’s body and the back of the couch. He throws one leg over Alex’s thigh and his arm wraps around his waist, his chaotic mop of curls tickling Alex’s nose as he shifts to get comfortable.
The silence between them as they lie there is nice, simple in a way things rarely are for them.
That is, until Alex’s mind starts running away from him, age-old doubts and fears plaguing his thoughts. He loves Michael more than anything, but was falling back into bed so soon a mistake? Can they really make it work this time?
“Stop thinking,” Michael mumbles against his collarbone.
“Sorry,” Alex apologizes with a sigh, dropping a kiss into his curls. “I just…”
“Hm?” Michael prompts him when he doesn’t continue.
Alex takes a breath before he says, “I just can’t believe we just had sex on my couch without actually talking things out first.”
“Really?” Michael asks, leaning up to look at him incredulously. “You can’t believe that?”
“Okay, that’s fair,” Alex concedes with a laugh. “I just meant—I don’t know. I thought the next time we did this, we would be a real couple.”
That’s the wrong thing to say, apparently, because Michael’s face falls a little, his eyes sliding down to stare intently at Alex’s collarbone. He doesn’t pull away from him though, not yet, which Alex hopes means he hasn’t completely fucked this up.
“Who says we’re not?” Michael asks slowly, chancing a look back up at Alex’s face. Alex isn’t sure what he finds there, but it reassures him enough to joke, “I mean, we have shared custody of a fur baby remember? That sounds pretty serious to me.”
Alex laughs at that, his eyes warm and fond and maybe just a little misty.
“I love you,” he says, the words spilling out of him before he can contain them.
His heart seizes in his chest a little at the unexpected admission, but it’s worth it to see the joy on Michael’s face as he presses in close and whispers those words right back at him.
The next time it rains in Roswell, Alex wakes slowly to the sounds of soft laughter, rustling sheets, and raindrops tapping away at the roof overhead. He drifts in that space between sleeping and waking for a few moments, warm and content.
Buffy barks suddenly, pulling Alex firmly into the land of the living. He cracks open an eyelid to see Michael sitting up in bed and a very happy beagle demanding belly scratches on the comforter in front of him.
“Shh, daddy’s sleeping,” Michael scolds gently, and Alex’s heart feels so fucking full.
He rubs the sleep from his eyes and sits up, the movement drawing Michael’s attention.
“Shit, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you,” Michael says, casting a rueful smile over his shoulder.
Alex smiles and shakes his head, shifting closer so he can rest his head on Michael’s shoulder and pull him back against his chest. He rests his right palm over Michael’s heart, his fingertips dragging lightly through his chest hair.
“Never apologize for being here when I wake up,” Alex says, pressing a kiss to the back of his neck. Michael ducks his head and smiles, his hand coming to rest over Alex’s on his chest.
Alex closes his eyes and breathes deep, the heady scent of petrichor filling his lungs.
Maybe rainy days aren’t so bad.

Summary: Kristoff and Anna are ready to go on their annual summer vacation to the beach at Ahtohallan. Little does Anna know, Kristoff has a big surprise for her, well...more of a big question really.
Ao3
“Kris!” Anna Arendelle was currently packing for her and her boyfriend’s annual summer vacation to Ahtohallan. It had become an annual thing they have been doing for the past five years since they started dating. It was the first place they went on vacation as a couple and they had fallen so in love with the charming little town that they had decided to visit every year. And while each trip was a little different, it consisted of at least three things that had remained the same: spending as much time as possible at the beach, going to their favorite diner Reindeer Circle as their special dinner, and staying at the charming The Crocus beachside hotel. Little did Anna know, however, that Kristoff had a surprise that would make this trip more than a little bit different.
“Which dress do you think I should wear to the diner?” Anna hollered from their bedroom.
Kristoff stopped what he was doing and sauntered over to their bedroom. He leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed as he admired his girlfriend examining herself in the Rococo style mirror with the two dresses. One was the white sunflower shirtdress that he had gotten her for her twenty-third birthday, because at the time she had an obsession with the 50’s setting movie Grease. The other was a forest green sundress that had lace trimming, he has actually seen her wear this one before, when they went out to eat for his birthday, and he remembered how it hugged her in all the right places and showed off her scattering of freckles.
“I don’t know. You decide. I’m not the one who will be wearing it,” Kristoff said.
Anna pursed her lips. “I know, but I just want to look beautiful enough for you,” she pouted.
A soft smile graced Kristoff’s lips and he walked over to where Anna stood, enveloping her in a loving embrace. He leaned his forehead head against hers causing a small hum to escape her delicate lips.
“Anna, you always look beautiful. Whether you're wearing clothes or not.”
Kristoff pushed back her bangs so that he could get a better look at her bluebell eyes, not unaware of the blush that began to tint her cheeks.
Seeing this as a challenge he leaned down and whispered, “Especially when you’re not.”
Anna’s blush went from a soft pink to a beat red. Successful with what he wanted to accomplish, Kristoff grinned with pride.
“Kristoff!” Anna whined. “I’m being serious.”
 “So am I.”
Anna let out a small huff before standing on her toes so she could entwine her hands behind his neck to give him a small peck on the lips.
“You know, sometimes you can be very frustrating.”
“But that’s why you love me.”
“That, and so many other reasons,” Anna smiled.
“Oh yeah?” he chuckled, bumping her nose with his. “And what would those be?”
“Hmm?” Anna tapped her lips with her finger, which should still not be doing things to him.
She put her arms behind her back and gave him a cheeky little grin.
 “Not telling.”
 “You little minx.”
Anna picked up the dresses she had dropped on the floor during their embrace and held the sunflower one out in front of her.
“You know,” she said, “I think I’ll wear this one. Besides, you gave this to me so that makes it special.”
It was Kristoff’s turn to blush now. She giggled and gave him a peck on the cheek leaving him standing there dumbfounded as she went to put up the other dress.
Later that night, after dinner they snuggled up on the couch watching reruns of The Office. Kristoff ran his fingers through Anna’s fiery hair, and eventually, she nodded off to sleep. He soon joined her in slumber, allowing his mind to drift to a very important tiny box he had hidden in the top shelf of his dresser.
 ***
Kristoff had woken up from where he fell asleep on the couch last night, careful not to disrupt Anna as he got up to go make breakfast. He knew she liked to sleep in late and the last thing he needed was upsetting the snoring redhead. While Anna was the kindest person she had ever met, she was also scary as hell. Plus, they wouldn’t be leaving for Ahtohallan till a little after noon anyway, so they weren’t in any kind of rush.
He raised his arms above his head and stretched, his shirt rising up a bit to reveal some of his toned stomach.
Turning on the stove, he cracked a few eggs into the frying pan. He made them scrambled, just how Anna liked them. He added an assortment of other things as well like chives and cheese. Early on in their relationship, he had learned that Anna would eat just about anything as long as it had either two things: cheese or chocolate.
The scent of the delicious concoction of eggs, bacon, and biscuits Kristoff whipped up swirled in the air causing Anna to stir in her sleep. She had tried with all her might to not give in to the delectable aroma, but eventually the mouse had fallen for the trap. Her button nose stuck up to get a better whiff. She looked like a little woodland creature in search of food.
She followed the scent all the way into the kitchen to where Kristoff had begun serving everything on their plates.
“You’re up early?” Kristoff teased, knowing very well that this was a rare occurrence.
Anna gave him a small swat on the shoulder. “Oh shush you.” She opened the fridge door to grab the jelly for their biscuits, strawberry for her and grape for him, and set them on the little round table right outside the kitchen.
“Your breakfast m’lady,” Kristoff said, putting on the best posh accent he could muster and giving a small bowl as he placed the dish in front of her.
“Why thank you kind sir,” Anna replied back with a fancy accent of her own.
“So,” Kristoff said, getting Anna to meet her eyes with his. “Are you excited for our trip?”
Anna nodded before shoving a forkful of eggs into her mouth.
“I’m always excited, because it means I get to spend a whole day with you.”
“You see me every day,” Kristoff chuckled, feeling light and happy in his chest. It was a feeling that only Anna was able to give him.
“True, but with work keeping us on our feet and having completely different schedules from one another, we hardly ever get to spend quality time together.”
Anna spread some strawberry jam on her biscuit. Some dripped down the side of her finger and when she licked it, Kristoff could do nothing but stare. It seemed as if with every move she took, made him lose his breath every time.
He must have been staring for quite a while too because suddenly Anna was in his lap with her arms wound around his neck, snapping him out of his reverie. He glanced over to where she was previously sitting across from him and saw that her plate was empty.
She put both her small hands on the side of his face and turned his head so that he was looking at her once again. And when she smashed her lips all he could taste was strawberry jam and Anna, and he would be perfectly fine if time froze in that moment and they stayed that way forever.
“You know strawberry jam may be delicious, but kissing you is always so much sweeter,” Anna sighed.
“You flatter me too much,” Kristoff grinned.
Anna returned the smile before giving him a peck on the lips and leaving to go finish packing any last-minute things.
Kristoff laughed to himself, wondering how he, who came from nothing, had been blessed with Anna, who came from everything.
Anna was the heiress of her father’s manufacturing company, Arendelle Incorporated. Her family had also founded the town they lived in so saying she was popular was a little bit of an understatement. While  he was adopted into a family that couldn’t offer much except their love.
Whenever they were out in public people would always whisper. Many believed they didn’t belong together due to their different backgrounds, that Anna was too good for him. But despite all the harsh words and criticism they have received, Anna refused to believe any of it. She said that it doesn’t matter that they come from two different worlds, because she loved him, and love is the strongest thing there is.
With a smile, Kristoff got up from his seat and went into the kitchen to wash his dishes.
 ***
“Krissss,” Anna groaned, “Are we there yet?”
“We just left the apartment feisty,” he said laughing at his girlfriend’s impatience.
It was a six-and-a-half-hour drive to Ahotohallan, and every single time, no matter how many times they did it, Anna never forgot to show her displeasure for the small road trip. It was rather adorable if Kristoff was being honest.
 “But I’m so bored.”
“Turn on the radio.” He grabbed her hand and kissed it before rubbing little circles on it with his thumb. “Besides,…I like it when you sing.”
With a blush, Anna pressed the radio button, flipping through the stations until she settled on one she liked.
A few minutes later she had become lost in the music, singing and doing little dances in her seat as if there was nobody watching. Kristoff loved this view of her. He loved seeing her in her natural element, because it was so Anna and there was nothing better in the world than that. Her voice sounded like birds singing their morning songs when the first light of day appeared over the horizon. She had rolled her window down and her hair looked like a wildfire the way the wind blew through it, making it go in different directions. And Kristoff hoped that he would get to see her like this for the rest of eternity. If Anna accepted the question he had prepared, then that dream would become a reality.
About halfway they had stopped at a burger place to grab some lunch then headed to the nearest gas station to fill up the tank. Anna, of course, couldn’t pass up the opportunity to go inside and grab a few chocolate bars for the road. Kristoff would never understand how someone so small could consume so much of the sweet treat. He was convinced that it wasn’t blood but chocolate sauce that flowed through her veins.
He laughed when she came out holding twelve chocolate bars, saying that there were too many to choose from and that she didn’t want the other chocolate bars to feel bad for not choosing them so the only logical thing to do was to buy one of each. She also said that she would space them out during their trip, but he just shook his head and smiled knowing fully well that all twelve candy bars would not make it by the time they arrived at the hotel.
 ***
Unfortunately, it took a little longer than usual to arrive at the hotel due to some heavy traffic. Neither of them minded though, because it just meant Anna had more time to sing at the top of her lungs and having little conversations that usually ended with them saying how much they loved one another.
Anna hopped out of the car, “Finally! We’re here!” She hopped up and down on the tips of her toes and clapped her hands together. She looked like a little kid who was about to receive their ice cream cone. “Now we can finally relax and get our vacation started!” She squealed with excitement.
“Don’t get too worked up just yet feistypants. I still have to check-in,” Kristoff chuckled as he made his way over to her with their bags.
The Crocus may not have been five stars, but it was affordable and convenient because it was right on the beach. Kristoff and Anna had never been ones for fancy things anyway.
Anna sat in the lobby admiring the coziness of it all while she waited for Kristoff to return with their room keys. Though she had been here many a time, the homey little hotel never failed to take her breath away.
Speaking of things that took her breath away, Anna was getting a rather pleasant view of Kristoff’s butt from where he stood at the front desk. Those jeans were definitely doing his ass a lot of favors.
The scene had put Anna in such a deep trance that she didn’t even notice that Kristoff had left and made his way over to her.
 “Room 209.”
Anna shook her head, bringing herself back to reality. “Hm?”
“Our room,” Kristoff said. “It’s 209.”
“Oh! Um.Our room.209. Got it!” Anna stuttered hoping that he didn’t catch her ogling his butt a few minutes ago.
“Are you okay?” Kristoff raised an eyebrow.
Blood rushed up to her cheeks. “Never better!” She got up and grabbed the handle of her suitcase, staring there awkwardly as she tucked a piece of hair behind her ear and bit her lip. “Let’s head up shall we.”
She rushed past Kristoff leaving him standing there dumbfounded as to what had just happened before he followed her towards the elevator.
Anna threw herself on the bed sighing with contentment. “Finally!,” she exclaimed. “We can relax and begin our vacation.”
Kristoff joined his girlfriend on the bed grinning at the image of her snuggled up into the pillow with her eyes peering at him. She looked like a kitten curled up in a blanket.
Kristoff pressed her frame against his, his large arms swallowing her in a tight hug. “Just a whole week of just you, me, and spending quality time at one of our favorite places together.”
Anna hummed in agreement. He kissed the top of her head and relished in her soft honeysuckle-scented hair.
They stayed curled up with one another for hours it seemed, one never wanting to let the other go. The peacefulness of the moment, eventually bringing both to a deep slumber.
It was around 5:00 when Kristoff woke up. He figured he would let Anna sleep in a little more before then went and grabbed some dinner.
Carefully unwinding himself from Anna he silently walked over to his suitcase. Unzipping the front pocket he took out the tiny box containing the ring. It glimmered back at him and he looked over his shoulder to make sure Anna hadn’t woken up; if she had seen him the jig would be up.
He ever so quietly put the box back in the small corner of his front bag pocket. He had decided to wake Anna up at 6:00, and for the time being he made himself a cup of tea and got out the chapter book he had currently been reading.
When 6:00 rolled around Kristoff had woken Anna up just as he had planned. Anna quickly fixed her lion's mane that she always got after a good rest and looked up restaurants nearby on her phone to find a place to eat. Settling on an Italian place they headed out the door and down to the lobby.
For dinner they shared a plain cheese pizza, Anna never cared much for toppings. They laughed over stories about moments shared together in their past, with dreams of creating more in the future. And every time Anna’s soft lips wrapped around the straw to take a sip of her Coke she would lick the droplets off her lips causing a pulse to surge through Kristoff’s body. The simple things that woman could do to him was uncanny.
When the check came they had both blushed when the waitress deemed them “The Cutest Couple Ever.”
Now, after a quick stroll through the park, they found themselves back in their bed tangled up in their sheets as they held one another.
Anna absentmindedly twirled the hair on his chest with her index finger, breathing in his woodsy aroma and listening to the beating of his heart. She placed a soft kiss there, “I love it when we get to share moments like this,” she sighed. “Moments where we can let all our worries run free and sunker down into each other's embrace.”
“Yeah. Me too.” Kristoff stroked his fingers through her unruly hair.
“I was always alone when I was little, so I thought I’d never get to have anything like this. I never thought I’d feel as loved as I do now. But then you happened Kristoff Bjorgman. You crashed into my life and changed it for the better.” She propped herself up on her elbows and stared down at him. “I love you, and I will always love you forever and always.”
Kristoff pushed a strand of hair behind her ears, tears welling in his from the sweet words that had just left Anna’s mouth. “I love you too. To the ends of the earth and back.”
Wrapped up in each other’s love, all that could be heard that night were Anna’s soft snores and the heartbeats of two people who were madly in love.
 ***
Anna woke up, her head still resting on Kristoff’s chest. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and stared at Kristoff’s sleeping form. He looked like an angel. A very tall blonde muscular angel.
She stroked his hair and he looked up at her drowsily, cracking a lopsided grin.
“Hey beautiful,” he said, bringing her fingers up to his lips for a kiss.
“Hey yourself.” She smiled back at him and he was lost again.
“So?,” he pulled her tighter to his chest. “What would you like to do today?”
Anna tapped her pursed lips. “Hmm…how about we go to the beach? We had a long day of traveling yesterday so I would just kind of like to have a chill day. Know what I mean?”
He pressed a line of kisses from her cheekbone down to the base of her neck and stayed there for a while. “Sounds perfect.”
Anna went to her suitcase to pull out her swimsuit while Kristoff got ready in the bathroom (which didn’t take long at all). Kristoff, unlike Anna, was never really one who cared much about his looks. Of course he made sure he kept up with his hygiene, but for everyday wear, he usually rocked some sort of simple T-shirt and let his hair go wild and free. Oftentimes, people would give him nasty for how unkempt and long his hair was, but Anna liked it that way and to him, that was all that mattered.
When he stepped out of the bathroom his girlfriend looked at him with hungry eyes and he almost had half a mind to strip them both down of any article of clothing and go back to being wrapped up in the sheets. It also didn’t help that Anna gave him a seductive wink when she passed him to go into the bathroom.
It was Anna’s turn to walk out of the bathroom and Kristoff had given her the same look she gave him just a few moments ago.
She wore a black 50’s style one-piece bathing suit with white polka dots. Her hair was put up in a messy bun, the little whispys that had escaped it framing her angelic face with perfection.
His eyes were wild with lust as he looked at the goddess that was his girlfriend.
Anna must have known that the sight of her was making him swoon too because she rubbed her pale star scattered freckled thighs together as she bit her lip peering up at him with shy yet mischievous eyes.
 “What do you think?”
He lost all control over his body as he sauntered towards smashing his lips against hers.
“I think,” he whispered into her and her butt a little squeeze, “that I must have the sexiest girlfriend on the planet.”
“Kristoff!” She swatted his chest. “You can’t say things like that.” A blush rose to her cheeks which only made him more confident to tease her a bit more.
“In fact, you're so sexy that I think we should skip going to the beach and hop right back in bed.” He nibbled behind her ear.
“Besides,” he smirked, “I don’t want other guys drooling all over you.”
“Ah, ah, ah,” Anna tsked, wagging her finger. “We only get to come here once a year, mister. We’re going to the beach.”
“Fine,” he groaned. “But, don’t get mad at me if I have to fight someone for flirting with you.”
Anna threw her head back and laughed. “I don’t think you need to worry about that. I highly doubt anybody is going to hit on me.You? Yes. People will for sure be wanting a piece of you. But me? No way in hell.”
“You know I really wish you wouldn’t talk that way. You make it sound as if you're not attractive.”
 “That’s because I’m not.”
She started to turn the door handle before Kristoff shoved her up against the wood and pressed his mouth over hers in a firm kiss.
“Don’t,” Kristoff breathed across her lips, “you dare say that. You are the most beautiful being on the planet and I pity anyone who doesn’t agree with me.”
Tears gleamed in Anna’s, making her blue orbs sparkle like the ocean right outside of their hotel. Words got caught in her throat and the only thing she could do was reply back with a kiss.
 ***
Anna couldn’t believe it, but Kristoff had been right. They were lounging in their beach chairs when Anna decided to go grab them drinks from the bar. After placing her order and taking a seat at the countertop while she waited for them, a tall skinny man with eyes of emerald green and dark auburn hair with sideburns took a seat right next to her. He pulled his stool closer, and when Anna had tried moving away he would scoot right next to her again.
Anna stood up to move down to another stool, but as she started to walk away a slender hand gently gripped her tiny wrist.
Anna’s heart dropped as she slowly turned her head to look at the stranger with frightened eyes.
“I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable miss. It’s just that, when I see a woman as beautiful as you I can’t help but wanna introduce myself.”
“That’s very flattering of you to say-I think-but I do have a boyfriend.” Anna made sure to elaborate on the word “boyfriend” to make it clear that she was unavailable and that hopefully the guy would leave her alone.
“Well, that’s too bad.” He gave her a sweet sinister smile and fear washed over her.
He still held her wrist and when she tried to break free he pulled her to him.
“However,” he paused to kiss her hand. “I’m sure he won’t mind if I borrow you for a little while.”
Anna looked over his shoulder with frantic eyes, hoping to find a bartender or some other beach guest who would notice her discomfort. Kristoff was on the other side of the bar and out of sight from her so she couldn’t rely on him either, though if he were to have seen the situation Anna had no doubt he would be here in a heartbeat.
She would have to deal with the problem on her own.
“Actually,” Anna furrowed her brow trying to put on the sternest look possible. “I don’t think he would. And quite frankly I wouldn’t appreciate it very much either. Now I already told you I am not interested so please respect my wishes and leave me alone,” she huffed.
She pushed him away before he grabbed hold of her waist and pressed her body against his once more.
“Come on darling, don't be that way. I promise to show you a good time.”
Anna tried to wriggle from his grasp, but he was surprisingly strong for such a scrawny man.
“No!,” she screamed, finally turning the heads of those around them. “Let me go! Leave me alone!”
She twisted and turned but to no avail could she break free; that was until a fist had collided with her aggressor’s face.
Screams and gasps spread throughout the beach like a tidal wave.
Looking up to see her hero’s face, she cried a breath of relief to find Kristoff standing over the man’s limp body, seething with anger.
Kristoff grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and pressed him up against the countertop. “If I ever catch you near my girlfriend again you can be sure I’ll do more than just punch you.”
Kristoff threw him back onto the ground standing tall and brooding, his arms crossed over his chest as he watched him skimper away like a scared dog.
He turned to Anna, his face softening as he brought her into a warm hug.
She rested her head against his shoulder, her small frame small trembling against his large one. He placed a kiss there as he gently caressed her hair.
He pulled back to look at her, “You okay?”
“I am now, thanks to you.” She smiled softly at him and he kissed her forehead.
 “Were you scared?”
“Only a little, but I’m glad you came to my rescue.”
He gave her one of his iconic sappy grins and it made her heart flutter.
“Always.” He rested his cheek against the top of her head. “Even though I know you could have totally kicked his ass.”
 “Damn right I could have.”
Kristoff gave a whole-hearted laugh and Anna joined in, her giggles creating a symphony with his chuckles.
The rest of the day was spent splashing each other in the salty waters of the ocean, buried each other in the sand, held a sandcastle contest-which Anna had won- and ended with them holding each other close as they watched the sunset beneath the horizon.
When they arrived back at the room they hopped in the shower helping one another wash the salt out of their hair.
Once more they were now tangled in the sheets of their love, drifting off to sleep with the sound of the other’s heartbeat.
 ***
For the next few days, Anna and Kristoff spent their time going on hikes, shopping at their favorite local stores, visiting the town’s attractions, and so on.
Now, on their last night here, Kristoff sat at the foot of their bed dressed in the best casual clothes he had, fumbling with the small box he held in his hands. Anna was still in the bathroom “making herself pretty,” as she called it even though he told her that she was beautiful just the way she was.
Taking one last deep breath he put the ring in the little gift bag he bought to carry it in. Since he wasn’t wearing a suit he didn’t have a pocket to hide it in except for his jeans, but Anna would for sure be able to make out the outline of the box if he did that.
 “Whatcha got there?”
Kristoff jumped at the sound of Anna’s voice behind him. He was so deep in thought that he hadn’t heard her come out of the bathroom and accidentally run into the dresser cursing, as she walked up to him.
 “Oh! Uh…it’s nothing!,” he stuttered.
“Kristoff I love you I really do, but please don’t take this the wrong way when I say you have never been a very good liar.”
Caving into Anna’s persistence he picked the bag off the ground and showed it to her. He had wanted to keep it a secret, but knew his nosy girlfriend wouldn’t stop pestering him until she got what she wanted.
“I got you a gift. You know just a little something to show how much I love you.” He gave her a dopey smile before adding, “But, it’s for after dinner. So no peeking.”
“Aww, Kristoff! That’s very sweet of you, but you don’t need to get me a gift to prove that you love me. I know that by heart.”
Her words made his heart flutter and he took her hand rubbing small circles over before kidding each one of her fingers.
“You ready?,” she said, breaking the silence.
“Ready as I’ll ever be,” he said more to himself than to her.
Together they walked the quiet streets that guided them to their destination and before long they had arrived at a familiar little diner with a big retro light-up sign that said Reindeer Circle.
They preferred their usuals, for Anna a large chocolate shake with extra whip cream and a plate of chicken fingers with curly fries, and for Kristoff a hamburger with regular fries-though he knew Anna would probably eat some of them-and a glass of water.
They chatted and laughed as they enjoyed their meals, the time encroaching ever so closer for Kristoff to pop his big question.  And as the waitress had taken their dishes away, he decided that it was now or never.
 “Anna?”
She had turned her attention away from the window and back to him. “Hm?,” she sighed dreamily, gently squeezing their clasped hands in the middle of the table.
“I think it may be time for me to give you your present.”
Interest piqued in her eyes and she lifted her head from where it rested in the palm of her hand.
“Oh? Really?!” She clapped her hands together, unable to contain her excitement.
“Um? Yeah…just let me,” he cleared his throat, “let me prepare myself right quick.”
“Prepare yourself? Kristoff what are you-”
She was cut off mid-sentence at the sight of Kristoff, down on one knee holding open a box with a ring, in front of her.
“Anna Arendelle you are the most extraordinary person I ever had the pleasure of meeting. Before you, I thought my destiny was to just live on my own for the rest of my life. But, you came crashing into it with your infectious love and proved me wrong. They say everyone has an angel, and you are mine. Will make me that happiest man on earth, and marry me?”
Tears formed in Anna’s eyes and she threw herself into Kristoff’s arms, peppering kisses all over his face.
“Yes! Yes! A thousand times yes!”
Applause spread through the diner and Kristoff spun Anna in the air, kissing her deeply as he slid the ring in her finger.
Anna admired it. In the middle was a stone of amber on a gold band with intricate petal designs that had made it look like a sunflower. It was so perfect and knowing that it was Kristoff who picked it out caused her heart to overflow with overwhelming love and desire for him.
After the excitement had settled, they had already begun discussing wedding plans.
“I think we should have it here, in Ahotohallan. On the beach,” Anna said with a smile.
“Unless…you know…you would rather have it somewhere else. I just thought it would be cute to have it at a place we both loved, and I always dreamed of having a beach wedding since I was a little girl. I always thought it was romantic. But, if you don’t think it’s a good idea I totally understand! You know what, forget I said anything it’s stupid.”
“Hey! Hey! Anna!,” he cradled her face in his calloused palms and brushed a thumb across her ivory freckled cheek. “I wouldn’t want to have it any other way.”
That night as Anna lay in the comfort of Kristoff’s arms, she stared at the ring glistening in the moonlight that shone through the window with visions of many more summer vacations to come.

Terushima knocked on the door to Y/N’s dorm with anticipation. To be frank, he didn’t think his intimidation would work. But he had the definitive proof that Y/N was Cherry Baby, so why not use this as an opportunity? He had always flirted with Y/N as a joke, most of the time at least. As the semester progressed and they got closer, maybe he did develop some feelings for her. He shook his head at the vulnerable thought, plastering a smirk across his face as the door opened.
“Hey baby girl.”
Leaning against the door frame was Y/N dressed in snuggly in a bathrobe. She gave him a warm smile and let him inside.
“Hi Teru, welcome! I don’t think you’ve been in my dorm before have you?”
He shook his head while scanning the small apartment-like space. One bedroom, a bathroom, a very tiny living room space and a small kitchenette. It seemed like a cardboard box compared to the frat’s mansion.
“Uh no I haven’t. You don’t have a roommate?”
“No, Kiyoko transferred schools last year so I got a single for the following semesters.”
Terushima nodded and looked down at Y/N, who seemed completely unbothered by his presence. No irritation, no shame or fear, just pure calm. It was unlike her.
An alarm went off from within Y/N’s bedroom.
“Oh! It’s 3:45!”
Y/N stepping into her room, Teru following closely behind.
“I never let anyone in my room Teru.”
It made sense. There was the infamous daybed of Cherry Baby, almost unrecognizable underneath the immense number of stuffed animals scattered on top. There was a computer and monitor sitting on a desk, as well as lights and a film camera. The space was incredibly make shift for someone who had become so popular off of the videos.
Terushima turned to Y/N who was moving her desk chair over to him.
“Sit please!” She said sweetly. Terushima chuckled and sat down, waiting for Y/N’s next move.
“You always make comments about how kinky I am Teru,” she purred while grabbing a small velvet bag from the side of her bed. “But how do you match up?”
Terushima cocked his brow and puffed out his chest like a bird trying to impress a mate.
“Well I’m not vanilla-”
“Good,” Y/N hissed while swiftly whipping out a pair of metal hand-cuffs, quickly and tightly cuffing Terushima’s wrist’s behind his back. “These were a gift from a viewer. And now I finally get to use them.”
“Y-Y/N,” Terushima chuckled nervously. Who was the girl in front of him? This was nothing like the studious and nervous Y/N that sat next to him in class and scolded him for texting during lectures.
“These, however, I’ve had for a while,” She said while kneeling in front of him. With calm ease, Y/N took a rope and tied his ankles to the desk chair.
“Jesus Christ, Y/N are you going to murder me?”
“C’mon Teru, I thought you said you weren’t vanilla?”
The laugh that fell from her mouth while she reached for another bag sent a shiver down Terushima’s spine. It was haunting, how she walked around the small room with power in each step, slowly but surely, dominating the space.
“This, is going to be my favorite though.”
Terushima’s eyes widened in shock as Y/N held a ball gag in her hands.
“You can’t be serious-”
“Oh, I’m very serious,” she snarled, stepping forward and cupping Terushima’s face in her hand. He stared at her eyes, a slight tint of fear behind the gleam of rage that covered her irises. “Open up.”
“Y/N I’m not going to be your submissive little play thing-ACK!”
“If you learned to keep your mouth shut maybe you wouldn't have a ball in it right now.”
Y/N smirked while buckling it down.
Terushima tried to speak but it just resulted with drool to pool at his bottom lip. He looked so weak and angry and Y/N was reveling in every moment.
“Now,” she said while setting her hand on his shoulder and looking down at him. “I have work to do. You’re going to sit here like a good boy and if you make a sound, I will tell everyone about the time you threw up in Kenma’s bathtub while blacked out and naked.”
Unable to reply, Terushima narrowed his eyes at Y/N.
“You’re going to watch me, because that’s all you’ll ever be able to do. You’ll never lay a finger on me Terushima. And if you run off after this and tell everyone about who I am, then I’ll happily tell everyone how you loved being my little bitch the entire time. You wanted the Cherry baby exclusive, so here it is.”
Y/N let go of his shoulder and stepped back to take off her robe. Terushima watched as the girl he had been longing for, the one who had tie him up, threatened him, was now standing in front of him in lingerie that fit her oh so perfectly. He couldn’t tell if he was crazy for trying to expose her in the first place or that this was happening.
“Just so you know,” she said while putting the infamous mask over her face. “I think about Daichi when I do my shows.”
The words felt like a punch in the stomach. He should have never tried to out her to the world.
Terushima watched as Y/N moved the stuffed animals from her bed and turned the camera on. She positioned herself on her bed, waiting for the green light to signal she was live.
Green.
“Hello everyone! Its Cherry Baby and I’m so glad you guys could join me tonight!”
Terushima watched Y/N’s every move. He was furious, ashamed and felt absolutely pitiful. But none of those emotions could stop the hard-on from growing in his pants. At this point, he was drooling heavily down his neck, taking sharp inhales from his nose as he watched Y/N spread her legs for the camera. She hummed lewd words while touching herself.
The more things escalated, the more Terushima felt at Y/N’s mercy. Here he was tied up with a gag in his mouth like a hog, rubbing his thighs together to grant himself some relief. It didn’t help when wet noises and Y/N’s moans filled the small room.
He was hypnotized by the sight but consumed by guilt. That was his friend. Sure, he could touch himself to the thought of Cherry Baby, but Y/N was a different being to him.  Yet there he was grinding down against his thighs while watching his friend fuck themselves in front of a camera.
Terushima watched as Y/N’s chest rose and fell in anticipation for her climax. Trying his best to keep pace he continued his best attempts at grind down. Y/N was chanting, practically babbling as she fucked herself, legs shaking in anticipation.
“Oh fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck- D-Daichi!”
Terushima’s eyes widened in horror. Y/N hadn’t realized her mistake yet, as she continued to ride out her orgasm. His instinct to protect Y/N instantly killed the boner in his pants. He tried his best to push the gag out of his mouth, only to wind up drooling more on himself. He looked around panicked, unable to stop the live stream.
Y/N sat up and fanned herself, laughing softly, still unaware.
“Thanks again for joining me everyone! Have a good night!”
Y/N stood up, turned off the camera and turned to Terushima.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
She unbuckled the gag and let it fall from his mouth, his mouth wet from his drool. But he didn’t care as he procceeded to look at Y/N in panic.
“You have to take down that video now, Daichi watches it and-”
“Wait Daichi watches me?”
“What? Yes but Y/N, you-you said his name!”
Y/N paused and looked at Terushima.
“What?”
“When, when you came...you said his name.”

Sample chapter of:
Hamato Elisabetta Sirani
-Tot days
When Splinter finds an abandoned child in an alley way he takes it upon himself to bring her into the Hamato family.
(Takes place during their tot days! This story will be broken up into different sections based on different parts of their lives. It’ll progressively tackle deeper subjects and deeper meanings in life. It starts out really fluffy but it’ll get there lol.)
Year thirteen
"HAMATO ELISABETTA SIRANI!" The voice yelled loudly.
Her father.
Well, not really.
He wasn’t her real father.
Sirani couldn't hear him. Or rather, she didn't want to.
She wanted to be left in the afterglow of destruction.
She wanted to feel nothing.
She wanted to be swallowed up in fire.
She wanted to finally let herself be brought under by violent waves.
She placed her hands over her ears, crumpling to the cement road.
"You gotta stop!" Another voice yelled, faintly sounding like her older brother.
Leo.
"Please! You need to stop!"
Mikey.
"You're hurting people!"
Raph.
"You're gonna destroy New York!"
Donnie.
The tears never stopped falling.
Not even for a second,
"Then let it fall."
Day one
Rain poured down from the rooftops as if it was dropped from buckets. The shadows grew more as the sun continued to lower itself in the horizon. Not a single person wanted to be out in a storm like this.
Unfortunately, someone had to be.
"I told the boys! I told them!" Splinter grumbled to himself as he dug through the garbage cans in the alley. "I told them to let me know when we were low on supplies! But NOoooooo it's too hard!" He shook his head, whiskers twitching with irritation.
He wouldn't have to be out in the pouring rain looking for any form of nutrition if Leo had looked over their supplies like he'd been asked. He wouldn't have to be out in the cold searching for bandaids if Mikey hadn't thought skating down the stairs was a good idea!
How did that boy even get his hands on one? He barely knew how to walk! Sure, he could toddle for a couple feet but that didn't count!
If it were up to him he'd have all their skateboards locked up.
His grumbling was interrupted by the sound of approaching footsteps. They were loud and fast... like someone was running.
How was he able to hear that over the storm-
 Wait...
If he could hear them running...
And it was getting louder...
Then that must mean they were getting closer...
They were getting closer!
The rat jumped behind a garbage can quickly, breath quickening.
He listened intently.
Why would someone be running in a storm like this? Were they also fixing the mistakes of their children?
He peeked around the corner when the footsteps stopped.
Someone he couldn't quite make out was standing on the sidewalk, drenched to the bone.
He sunk further into the shadows when they turned their head to scan the trashy area.
 Were they looking for him?
Did they finally get discovered?
Would he and his children finally end up being taken to a zoo or experimented on by scientists? Become mocked by the public?
But the person didn't seem like they were looking for someone.
They weren't rummaging through trash.
They were... placing something in it?
He managed to make out the rectangular shape of a box as the person placed it amongst the garbage bags.
He waited to see what they'd do next.
They didn't do anything. They just left a lingering touch and straightened back up. They glanced back out at the street and drew whatever article of clothing they had tighter to their body.
It was almost as if they were waiting for something. Or deciding.
But deciding on what?
Splinter inched forward curiously, accidentally knocking over an empty bottle with his tail.
He jumped when it shattered against the cement ground and whipped around to see how the unseen person would react to something breaking out of seemingly no where.
They were gone.
Just an sidewalk, a worried rat, and a... crying box?
Why was the box crying?
Was this a trap?
Was it Baron Draxum?
The foot?
Did his past finally catch up to him?
The crying grew louder and Splinter couldn't stop himself from inching forward. He had to know what was in there!
How lucky would he be if there also happened to be some food and bandaids in there.
Carefully, he took off the now soaked cardboard lid.
It wasn't a trap.
It wasn't supplies either.
And it definitely wasn't baron draxum.
It was a baby.
A tiny human baby, wrapped in a little pink onesie. Her soft brown hair was plastered to her forehead with rain.
She couldn't be much younger than Mikey.
Splinter took a step back.
Did that person MEAN to leave this child in a dark, cold alley?! Did they know someone would find it?!
 The baby cried again, shivering.
Splinter couldn't help himself.
He reached down into the box and picked her up carefully.
It was then that he noticed the packages of dry formula and bottle that had been in there with her.
Whoever left her...
They'd done it on purpose.
The poor rat man didn't know what to do.
He couldn't bring her to the police! He was a rat!
He couldn't follow after that person! They were already gone!
However... Splinter happened to be an expert at adopting creatures that weren't his.
He held the child closer, trying to give her his warmth.
What was one more child for the Hamato family going to do? Nothing bad, in Splinters opinion.
He had experience with human children before. If anything this should be easier than raising four mutant turtle boys.
They might appreciate some new company as well.
 It was decided.
The child was officially a Hamato now.
He grabbed the box with the formula and bottle and headed back for the sewer lid, the fussing child in his hands.
————-
The lair was stuck in the same chaos there was when he had left.
"Dad said no skating!" Donnie yelled, trying to catch Mikey as he zipped past him while lying belly down on the board.
Mikey giggled, not even bothering to stop . He swerved to the right to avoid hitting Leo.
"you need to learn how to walk right!" His purple masked brother protested. He nearly tripped over his own feet. "You're using the board as a crutch!"
"Mikey you ran over my foot!" Raph yelled, clutching his toes. "DAD!"
"Dad's not here, Raph!" Leo yelled, watching Mikey zoom past. "But it's my turn on the skateboard!" He joined Donnie in his chase after their brother via crawling.
Only Donnie really knew how to walk right at this age.
Well, Donnie and Raph that is. Raph could walk since he was a year older than Leo and two years older than Mikey. Donnie could walk because he was determined to beat Leo at something. He'd even taken it upon himself to read a how-to-walk article on the internet.
Mikey and Leo were still wobbly and couldn't run without their legs getting carried away and leading them face first into the ground.
Mikey was the only one that wasn't very good with his words yet as well.
He sure could shout and scream though.
Splinter shook his head at his children. "It is no ones turn on the skateboard!" He adjusted his grip on the little girl and gave the boys a stern look. "I have told you time and time again that it is too dangerous for you!
They immediately stopped what they were doing.
Mikey rolled off the board and looked at the ground sheepishly.
The rat snatched the device from the ground. "I want change. Not guilt" He set it on the 'do not touch' shelf much to the dismay of his children.
Leo's attention was drawn from the loss of his entertainment to whatever it was that Splinter was carrying. The way he held it was so careful. Like it was delicate. It had to be something special.
"What's that?" He pointed at the pink bundle. "Is it a toy?"
"bandaids?" His box turtle brother asked hopefully as he pointing at his still hurting knee.
"A science expiriment?" Donnie inquired, adjusting his rectangle glasses.
Raph joined in before Splinter could even open his mouth. "Food?"
"No, this is not food!" Splinter rolled his eyes. "This, my children, is the newest member of the family." He set the baby down in Soft shelled ones arms, curious to see how his boys would react.
The boys eyes went wide and no one spoke.
It was silent for a minute.
Maybe two.
They stared at the sleeping baby in confusion.
Wonder.
Curiosity.
The brothers huddled around to stare at it.
Splinter was satisfied. They were intrigued. Not mad. Not jealous.
So far, so good.
Finally Donnie sat down, poking the girls face. "You mean as a pet?" He frowned up at his father. What was he meant to do with this creature? Was he supposed to feed and water it like a plant? Was it like those frogs he saw high school students dismember in biology on tv?
"No, she is your sister." The rat nodded. "Now get acquainted while I go get her food ready."
The boys watched the kid with silent interest.
All but Mikey that is.
The boy hadn't really understood what Splinter meant so he went back to plotting to get the board back.
Leo watched Splinter until he was out of the room, turning his attention to the baby in his brothers arms. "Sister? She doesn't really... look like us." He glanced at his own green skin and back at the baby's porcelain face.  "Is she even a turtle?" He asked as Donnie sat on the floor next to him.
"Doesn't look like a turtle to me." Raph frowned. "There's no shell!" He pulled down the blanket she was wrapped in to get a better look.
"I bet she's a bird!" Leo grinned. "She's gotta be a bird if she came from outside!"
Maybe she’d teach him how to fly! Maybe she’d teach him how to soar and build nests!
Donnie rolled his eyes at his aliterate siblings. "Birds have feathers, Leo."
Were they seriously this dumb? Did they not know what a bird was?
"Birds don't need feathers!" Leo protested. "Raph and I saw a featherless chicken on the tv this morning and it was EXACTLY this color." He poked the baby's arm and held one of her fingers.
Why did she have so many?
They were… small.
Donnie set his mouth in a straight line. "Leo, this is obviously a human baby."
 "Human?" Raph questioned.
"You know... those people that are built like us but without shells and a different color on Sesame Street? They have five fingers?" He attempted at jogging their memories. "Like Mr. Noodle?"
"She's Mr. Noodle?!" Leo gasped. "Who turned him into a child?!" He snatched the girl from his arms quickly and held her out. "MR. NOODLE! I’M YOUR BIGGEST FAN!"
"She's NOT Mr. Noodle!" Donnie yelled.
The baby opened her eyes sleepily, awakened by the noise.
One was a soft honey brown.
The other was like the sky that the boys had only seen once before when Splinter took them outside.
"Woahhhhh..." Raph marveled. "Definetely not Mr. Noodle!"
Was it possible for people to have two different colored eyes?
Did all humans have that?
The ones on Sesame Street didn’t…
"What gave you that idea." Donnie rolled his eyes.
He couldn’t help but be intrigued by the different colors. How in all of science was this possible? He hadn’t ever heard of anything like this before!
"Well, turtle or not, we're keeping her!" Leo held the small girl up proudly. "Welcome to the family!" He pointed out across the room dramatically. "Everything the light touches... or rather doesn't touch... is yours!"
Splinter nearly had a heart attack when he saw how the confused child was being held. "Blue! You don't hold children like that!" He rushed from the kitchen and took the girl from him.
"How am I supposed to hold her?" Leo pouted. "She didn't tell me I was doing it wrong!"
The rat father barely could keep his face palm on the inside. "She is a baby, blue. She does not talk yet." He cradled the baby so the boys could see how to do it. "It is like this. See? You hold her head like so and she is safe in your arms."
"Like a burrito!" Raph reached up excitedly. "Can I try?"
Splinter set the child in his arms carefully.
Raph adjusted his hold to copy what his father had done. "Like this?"
"Very good, Red!" Splinter patted his head.
"Move over!" Leo yelled at his brother. "I wanna try!"
"Me to!" The smallest yelled, losing interest in the board. He didn't really know what they were talking about. All he knew was that if his brothers wanted it then he should want it to.
"I'm the one that figured out she's human!" Donnie joined. "I deserve to hold her!"
"You will all get a chance to hold her!" Splinter shut down their bickering immediately. "After all, she's spending her life with us. It is up to us as her family to help her grow."
 The boys nodded confidently.
They had a responsibility for this tiny child now.
Raph was excited to have a sibling who wouldn’t shoot down his ideas. Someone who would marvel at everything he did. Someone he could teach. Someone new to play with. There were so many more games they could play now that they had five people! He’d help her ride a bike, learn how to read, learn how to fight, and he’d help her become a member of their small family.
Donnie was less enthralled. Would he have to share? Would he have to babysit? Would this new sister make fun of his science? What if she was just like Leo? What if she started competitions with him that he couldn’t win?
Leo still didn’t fully understand that this child was his sister now; that she’d be staying forever. He was too excited to realize that. He’d be able to prank her! He had someone new to bother when he and Donnie got into fights!
Mikey still didn’t know what was going on. He just guessed that this would be the way they rolled from now on.
Neat.
"What's her name?" Leo asked, patting the baby's now dried brown hair.
She gripped his hand softly, confused by the green color.
Splinter pondered on what he should say. The child hadn't been given a name. There was nothing in the box that would even suggest one.
But, his sons were named after great renaissance painters.
Maybe he should follow that tradition.
One of his mothers favorite artists was a woman by the name of Elisabetta Sirani.
He took his one idea and ran with it.
"Her name is Sirani." He nodded proudly. "Elisabetta Sirani."
Will also be posted on noandisaidno on wattpad!

CIRCLE WEEK - CELINE MONTCLAIRE
Tumblr media
“Jonathan,” she called. “Jonathan Christopher!”
The little boy came running, even the gentle tip toeing of his feet sounding musical to her ears.
He was grinning at her, a wicked gleam evident in his golden eyes.
“Jace,” she chastised. “Did you climb up the fridge and eat from the Nutella jar again?”
“No,” Jace shook his head solemly.
Either he wasn’t aware that his mouth was covered in chocolate or he knew the truth. Celine could never be mad at him.
“Come here,” she smiled and sat down on the grass. Jace ran towards Celine and hopped down next to her.
“I got you a present,” she told him.
“But it’s not my birthday,” he frowned. “Oh. Is today the mundane holiday where the giant red demon brings them gifts?”
“He is not a demon, Mon Cheri!” she laughed. “And no, it’s not Christmas. This is a special occasion.”
Jace’s eyes shifted to the large box to her, which rattled violently. Jace made a whimpering sound but quickly recovered.
“You know you start your shadowhunter training at the academy soon,” Celine pointed out. “I thought we could start a little early. I got you a little friend to train with.”
Jace’s eyes narrowed further. He didn’t really like many other boys. Alec Lightwood was the only exception of course.
“Ta-da!” she revealed his gift.
“It’s a bird,” Jace observed flatly.
“It’s a hunting falcon,” Celine pointed out. “Do you know something people call them shadowhunters of the sky? They are incredibly smart and very brave. Just like you.”
Jace smiled a little at that. “What do I do with him?”
“Her,” she corrected.
“What do I do with her?”
“You train her,” she said simply. “Hunting falcons are not easy to tame. But once they are, they become the most loyal creatures you can find. It’s always good to have a friend you can count on when you are in a fight.”
Jace considered this for a moment, his blonde eyebrows knitting in deep thought.
“Alright,” Jace stood up suddenly and held out his hand. “It’s a deal.”
It wasn’t really a deal but Celine couldn’t help but laugh and shake his hand.
“I’m going to call her Artemis,” Jace grinned.
For the goddess of the hunt, Celine realized. Sometimes she forgot how smart her son was.
And then the training began.
To nobody’s surprise, Jace excelled in every single aspect of his training – whether it was sword fighting or rune skills or tracking or hand-to-hand combat.
She was incredibly proud of him.
But Jace did not share her pride.
“Artemis bit me again,” Jace pointed out. “I wanted to tame her like you tasked. I wanted to make you happy. But Artemis doesn’t like me.”
“Artemis is afraid,” Celine pointed out. “You’re bigger than her. You’re stronger than her.”
“But I just want her to be my friend,” Jace pouted.
“Then you need to make that clear,” Celine said. “You’re teaching her how to obey you. It will only make her more afraid. You need to teach her how to trust you.”
“Trust me?” Jace asked.
“Trust is very important in a relationship, Jace,” she told him. “You should be able to trust your friends.”
Jace was deep in his thoughts again. “But how do I make her trust me?” Jace asked.
“You’ll figure it out, my tiny hunter,” she ruffled his hair. “For now, let’s go have lunch.”
The quest to tame Artemis began again.
This time, it was clear that Jace had listened. He took Artemis everywhere he went. He kept her in his room. He introduced her to everyone who came home. He read her the Codex – which Artemis wasn’t very happy about. He even played the piano for her – which the falcon seemed to enjoy.
Celine watched the two of them every day. At first, it had merely been a training. It had been Valentine’s idea – the instructor in the shadowhunter academy. He had told all children must be able to tame a hunting falcon.
She had thought it would be a good idea for Jace to learn this too.
Everyone had told her that Jace would grow up to one of the best fighters in history. They had told her that he would live up to the Herondale legacy.
“He has sharpest mind,” someone had said.
“He has the quickest reflexes,” someone had said.
“He has the best fighting skills,” someone had said.
But none of them saw what she saw.
They didn’t see him singing French lullabies to Artemis before going to bed every night.
He has the kindest heart, Celine thought.
Even though no one really praised it, Celine knew that was a good thing to have too.
One day when she was on her way to the shadow market, he noticed that Artemis’ cage was open.
“Jace!” she ran to the music room. “Jace! The cage is open. Artemis must have flown aw-”
Jace was playing the piano, a French classic Stephen had taught him ages ago. There, on his shoulders, was Artemis – looking regal and solemn.
Jace noticed her presence and smiled at her.
In that moment, Celine knew that he was going to do great things one day.
Not because he had tamed a wild creature. But because he had chosen love over power. Celine knew by experience that only one of those things mattered in life and Jace already knew to make the correct choice.
When the shadowhunter academy started later that year, all the children were expected to bring their falcons with them. Valentine had individually inspected every single one.
None of the children had been able to tame their birds. Some parents had even refused to buy such a creature for their children.
When Valentine inspected Jace and Artemis, Celine had thought he would be proud of what her son had achieved.
But instead, a look of disgust clouded his face.
“What is this?” he demanded. “I asked you to tame the bird. You’ve made it your friend! It has manipulated you, you weak boy! This is not a hunter. This is a pet. You’ve broken the damn creature!”
Jace who looked horrified, looked at her and then the children around him and ran away to the hills. Artemis, who had been sitting on his shoulder, started to fly after him.
“Honestly, Celine!” Valentine looked at her now. “I don’t know why I’m surprised. After all, the boy is being raised by a soft-hearted woman such as yourself. Of course, he would be a weak little thing focusing on caring for his play thing instead of training it-”
“Oh, shut up, Valentine!” Celine said, and not quietly either.
There were some audible gasps in the background.
“Caring for someone takes a lot of courage and strength. We cannot fight if we didn’t care. We care about the world. We care about the future. It’s what we do. Caring is never a weakness. It makes us better people. If you’re going to be training children here, you must as well get that in your arrogant head right now.”
She wasn’t going to stop here of course. She was going to have words with the dean of the academy. There was no way she would allow for this horrible man to shape the minds of the next generation.
She decided to go after Jace. But turned around one last time.
“Don’t EVER talk to my son that way,” she said, holding nothing back. “I might be a soft-hearted woman as you say. But I still know my way around a seraph blade.”
With that, she walked towards the hills, only to find Jace throwing pebbles into the river, with Artemis observing him from a distance.
“Sweetheart,” she called.
“I’m sorry,” Jace said. “I’m sorry I failed.”
“You didn’t fail,” she told him. “You did really good.”
“But Mr. Morgenstern said that I-”
“Not everything Mr. Morgenstern says is true,” she told him. “Sometimes people say things because they believe it to be true. But that doesn’t mean it is the actual truth. You need to decide the truth for yourself.”
Jace bit his lip. Maybe it was all too much for him. Maybe the academy would be too much for him.
“Mama,” he said quietly. “Did I…Did I break Artemis?”
Celine’s heart certainly did break upon hearing that.
She knelt down next to him so their golden heads were both on the same level.
“Listen to me, Jace,” she told him. “Artemis grew up in the wild. She probably didn’t have any friends growing up. She must have been very scared. She must have been very lonely. I know what that feels like. What you did…It was the best thing you could have done for her. You showed her kindness. You gave her love. Those are more important than learning how to fight.”
“But does that make me weak?” Jace asked in a quiet voice. “Valentine said I am weak.”
Celine wanted to tell him that Valentine was an idiot. That he was a man driven by anger and arrogance. But bashing Valentine was not going to help Jace understand – for she knew that there were many Valentines out there who would call her son weak for showing mercy and choosing love.
“Okay, tell me this,” she demanded. “Did you believe me when I told you that showing kindness to Artemis was a good thing? That loving her really helped her?”
Jace nodded, his little face determined.
“Then believe me when I say that as much as it is important to be kind to Artemis, it’s also important to be kind to yourself,” Celine told him softly. “When you chose love over destruction or kindness over hatred, people will always call you names. But that says more about them than it says about you, okay?”
Jace considered that for a moment. She liked that about him. How he always processed what other people said quietly to himself.
He finally nodded.
“Does that mean we can take Artemis home?” Jace asked now. “She wants to eat chocolate.”
“Birds don’t eat chocolate, Jace,” Celine poked out her tongue, already making a mental note to replace the now almost empty Nutella jar.
“This bird does,” Jace winked. “She loves chocolate.”
Celine laughed. “You love Artemis, don’t you?”
“I do,” Jace smiled, his face brighter than sunlight. “But don’t worry. I love you more.”
Celine smiled back and held out her hand for him. Jace took it as Artemis perched herself on his tiny shoulder.
“Good,” Celine said. “To love is the greatest strength, little one. And to be loved is the greatest blessing.”

Poker Buddies AU: Max and Memories Notes
Something I compiled for @i-cant-thinkof-anything-new Poker Buddies AU they have going. Now I used the Poker Night wiki to get this and I thought this would be helpful for any Sam and Max or Poker Night at the Inventory Fans in general. That and I have my own Poker Night At The Inventory AU and headcannons that I need to work on too. The first information is generally Max’s poker strategy in Poker Night At The Inventory:
When it comes to reading the opponent's strategies, Max's will prove to be a big problem. Due to his lack of knowledge on the subject, his poker strategy seems non-existent. His choice of whether to call, raise, or fold tends to come out of nowhere. Sometimes, Max will or will not have a good hand, so he will be very hard to read. His strategies are completely random; he might bluff, be cautious, or be aggressive. Sometimes he will just keep on betting or keep on folding.
I would call Max an unpredictable poker player at times. There’s this tell he has that if his left hand quivers, he’s bluffing, but other than that, you’re on your own with him.
Next is his relationships with the characters of both Poker Nights:
Heavy: Max seems to have a good strong friendship with the Heavy, asking him about how his career is going and what kind of weapon he could recommend.
Strong Bad: Mostly casual, having the odd talk with Strong Bad when Max is compelled to tell some sort of story.
Tycho: His relationship with Tycho seems to be, again, a casual friendship. They share many of the same interests, although from time to time Max will be slightly put off by Tycho's odd behavior.
The Player: Max often thinks The Player plays too conservatively, especially when not calling a huge bet of Max's.
Sam: Max very much loves the big guy. Max is Sam's long-time partner, best friend, husband, and sidekick.
Brock Samson: Brock finds Max annoying like Claptrap, but also finds it much easier to ignore him, even when Max is physically attacking him. He also has some level of respect for the lagomorph for everything he and Sam overcame as members of the Freelance Police.
Claptrap: Much like Sam, Claptrap is a fan of Max for their games and comics. He seems closer to Max than Sam due to the fact that Max isn't as annoyed by him as Sam is. Max's love for violence makes the robot think he would fit in very well on Pandora. If Claptrap is knocked out before Sam, he will often sit next to Max for a while. Also, during a Showdown, Max will stand right next to Claptrap, wondering what the next card will be.
Ash Williams: Ash has considerable respect for Max and Sam's career and is otherwise "okay" with the lagomorph. However, Ash also displays a few moments of apprehension and even downright concern when Max' insanity acts up, usually in his theme eliminations.
GLaDOS: Max doesn't seem to mind the murderous AI as much as the other characters and occasionally joins in when she insults or annoys the other characters (primarily Sam).
This is from the wiki, so take this with a grain of salt.
And finally, with spoilers in the cut:
The Memories I would focus on for the Epic Texas Hold Em Matches! Note that it’s not all the conversations from both games, but here’s the ones I found so far that might be interesting to incorporate for the AU. I’ll bold the ones that would seem more angsty for the AU:
Max: I don't know a lot about card games, truth be told. But, I take it you're a little bit of a beginner, yes? Strong Bad: Are you talking to (pronounces it as moy) moi? Max: You betcha. You're as green as the bologna in Sam's mini-fridge. Strong Bad: (angrily) Shut up, Stitch. Max: (cheerily) It's OK. It just means you have to adopt a wanton strategy of wild deception. Strong Bad: Hmm... Not the woist idea I ever hoid. Max: (furrows brow) Get into their heads.
Max: You know what I love? Tycho: What's that? Max: Destroying wave after wave of the undead. Tycho: WORD UP! How do you roll? Max: With my trusty side arm of course. Tycho: I'm more of an auto-shotgun guy. Max: Oooh! Heavy: This is good weapon no? Max: Sam and I had to resign ourselves to pistols when our cleaning bill started going through the roof. Tycho: Yeah, its like ichor? Oxyclean ain't cuttin' it. Max: This pelt is dry clean only.
Tycho: Max, how'd you learn to play cards? Max: Funny you should ask! This one time, Sam and I were busting up a crime syndicate down in Atlantic City. A road job. Tycho: Indeed. Max: Yeah! So we're tailing this low level mafia bum for an hour and he pulls up outside a casino and before he can go in Sam says, "Well little buddy, we better nab this guy quicker than a Pittsburgh driver taking a left on a green in rush hour." I couldn't have agreed more. So I grab a tire iron out of the back seat, right, hop out of the Desoto, and pummel this guy like a piñata. Tycho: Yow! Max: Blindfold and all! Tycho: ...That doesn't really answer my question. Max: You asked me a question?
Tycho: Hey Max, how do you like being a freelance police officer? Max: It's the best. Tycho: I bet it is. Max: Oh, but that's not all I do. I'm also available for babysitting, bat mitzvahs and general shakedowns. You know anybody who needs work? Tycho: See, this why I think we get along. You're a Renaissance man. Max: You need anybody roughed up? Tycho: There's a bird at the pet store that's been giving me a little beak, yeah. Max: Oh ho, putting a wise acre in his place is my specialty!
Heavy: I will make hat from you, little bunny. Max: How 'bout I just sit on your head and shoot people? Heavy: (thinks about this) ...This is good idea.
Heavy: Tiny Heavy, who is your favorite to kill in war? Strong Bad: Hmm, in WAR? Probably those Green Helmets. You know, the guys who don't have any cool weapons or gimmicks, and come in a discount three-pack. Heavy: To kill spy is glorious thing! How about you, Max? You are killing type. Max: My favorite enemy? {gasps} That's like asking me to choose between my children! Heavy: {laughs heartily} You crack me up, little bunny!
Heavy: You look very familiar, bunny. Max: How closely do you follow the Manhattan crime blotter? Wait, you didn't go the Spiro Agnew School of the Arts, did you? Tycho: You attended? Didn't take you for the book learnin' type. Max: No, but Sam and I pinched their gym teacher in a black market jock strap ring in the 80's. I'd be surprised if any student didn't remember a dog choking out a large man with a unibrow.
Strong Bad: I don't trust you one bit, ra-bbit. Max: It's ok, I don't trust myself. Strong Bad: How do we know that you don't have a never ending stack of aces wherever you put your gun? Max: Well, you don't, but you're welcome to look!
Strong Bad: So... Max. You're like one of those (pronounces as poke mons) poke-mons, right? Max: (narrows eyes) My genus and phylum is a mystery to all mankind. Strong Bad: Because I'd love to see some prepubescent pointy-haired kid run in here and stick you inside of a baseball (laughs). (in a high pitched voice, with a smile) That would be hilarious. Max: Are you talking about the red-capped kidnapper who terrorized the fauna on the Upper West Side for months? Strong Bad: Maybe. Max: Because Sam, Flint, and I caught him trying to stuff a chimpanzee into his knapsack, and made him cry for his mommy.
Strong Bad: I wonder if this dump is haunted? Max: (cheerily) Ooh, I hope so. There's something about being able to terrorize a spectral being without it up and dying on you that (furrows eyebrows) I just love. Heavy: (sadly, lowers his head) I do not like ghost. Max: It's OK Mr. Weapons. I've got extensive experience with zombies and vampires. (points toward himself) I can handle a little ghost. Heavy: (with large eyes) You will take care of ghost for me? Max: (cheerily) You betcha. Heavy: (cheerily, nods his head) I like you, tiny rabbit.
(Brock) GLaDOS: Brock Samson is eliminated. Max: GERONIMO! (lands on Brock's head and starts to gnaw on it, to no effect) Die, die, die! Brock: (gets up) I'll be at the bar.
(Claptrap) GLaDOS: Claptrap is eliminated due to lack of funds. Max: Wet willy, wet willy! (sticks a finger in his mouth and inserts it into a hole in Claptrap's side) Claptrap: Hey! That's not my ear, it's my... (both are electrified and fall from chair)
(Ash) GLaDOS: Ashley Williams is eliminated. Ash gets up and reaches for his chainsaw, only to realize it's not there. Max is holding it, standing a foot or so behind him. Max: (grinning maliciously) Looking for something? (looks at Sam normally) Hey, check it out, Sam! I'm a tree surgeon! Sam: (whispering to Ash) He's not really a tree surgeon...! Ash looks worried. Max: (revs up chainsaw) Open wide and say "ah!" (chases Ash away)

“I’ll always love you”
Kakashi x reader
A tiny bit of swear words...like three. Like two mentions of sex. Pretty sfw.
Summary: You break up with Kakashi
You walked into the Hokage building and prepared yourself for what was about to come. Today was the day you were going to break up with your boyfriend, Kakashi. It took a lot of thinking and tears until you finally came to the conclusion that breaking up was the best option for both of you. Knocking on the door you heard Kakashi give you permission to enter.
“Hey,” your voice hiding the tone of dread.
“Hey Y/n,” Kakashi looked up to meet your eye, “what brings you here? Also, you don’t have to worry I promise I’ll make time soon for our next date.” He smiled and then looked down to finish some more paperwork.
“Well actually, you don’t have to worry about making time for our next date,” you knew you had to do this but it still didn’t stop the guilt you were feeling. You just couldn’t do this anymore.
“I don’t? Why not?”
You took a deep breath, “because I’m breaking up with you. You don’t have to worry about balancing a relationship and being Hokage anymore.” you looked up to meet his eye.
“That’s funny Y/n but seriously why don’t I?” he let out a disbelieving chuckle.
“I’m being serious, Kakashi. I’m breaking up with you,” he could tell you weren’t joking.
“Why?” he stood up, “please Y/n, tell me this is some joke Naruto made you play”.
“You really think I would joke about this Kakashi. I’m not trying to toy with your emotions,” he took a step back, then proceeded to walk towards you.
“But why? I thought everything was going fine. Is it because I’m always working? Y/n I promise I’m working on making more time for us.”
“It’s not just that Kakashi, I’m not happy, I don’t want to do this anymore. Every day is a struggle and it’s honestly tearing me apart. I just can’t do it.” Kakashi was now standing right in front of you.
“What did I do Y/n? I promise whatever it is I can fix it. I don’t want to lose you, I can’t lose you,” he spoke fast, desperately.
You let out a sigh and put both of your hands on his face. Bringing him closer to you trying to ignore his tears threatening to fall.
“Kakashi, you can’t fix this. It isn’t just you, I’m a part of the problem as well. I should have brought up my feelings sooner. I love you and always will, but currently loving you has been hurting me.”
“But Y/n-,” you cut him off.
“No, Kakashi.” you whispered to him, “I already have everything out of the apartment. When you get home I won’t be there.”
“But Y/n,” he whispered back, finally letting his tears fall. You turned around and reached for the door. Once you touched the handle to open it he spoke again.
“I love you Y/n,” it was quiet but you heard it. Not responding you left, finally letting your own tears fall. You had many reasons why you broke up, but the main one was you weren’t happy, in fact, you were depressed. Ever since Kakashi became Hokage you haven’t spent any time with him. You tried constantly to make plans with him. You didn’t mind that he was too busy to hang out all the time. It was the fact he would agree to the plans and then not show up. Countless times you sat in a restaurant waiting for him, or at a park waiting for what was supposed to be a romantic dinner by the river. If he remembered the plans once he got home he would kiss you and tell you he would make it up to you. It worked the first couple of times but after the 5th dinner ditch, you stopped believing his words. Sometimes he wouldn’t even remember you two had plans and never apologized for missing them. Aside from a kiss before and after work you two shared no love. At first, you had made attempts, but after two many rejections, you decided your self-esteem couldn’t take anymore. That’s not all that had been bothering you either. You had known Kakashi his whole life. You were there for him when his comrades and sensei died. You were there for him when Sasuke left the village, but the worst part is you were there when he died. It may have only been a little bit to him but to you it was hours. The only man you had loved was dead. After he woke up in your arms you were overjoyed. Unfortunately, it was short-lived as he left to find Naruto right afterward. At first, you were fine with it, Naruto did just take out Pain, but before you had time with your lover he left to go meet the Raikage. Then the war came up. You never truly had time to remorse over him dying, or shower him in affection because he wasn’t dead. Truthfully you don’t think it ever occurred to him you watched him die and it traumatized you. You still had nightmares and every time they were just as heart tearing as the first. You wanted to go to him, tell him the problems you were having, but you just couldn’t. He was promoted to Hokage, so every time you tried to talk about it he was either busy or too tired to do anything other than sleep or read his icha icha. So many nights you cried yourself to sleep next to him muffing your cries so he wouldn’t hear. It hurt you so badly because you loved him and it started to feel one-sided.
Sighing you ran a hand through your hair as you prepared for what was next. You had to unpack all of your stuff into your new apartment.
~
I sat there in a daze as I watched Y/n walkout. The love of my life just broke up with me. I knew I was neglecting her for my work and figured I could make up for it, but now it’s too late. I sat down in my office chair and cried.
~
It’s been two weeks since Y/n broke up with me. I haven’t done much since then other than cry and sleep. Papers and papers were overflowing on my desk and I looked like shit. It's not like I have a reason to look good anyway. I couldn’t get her out of my head. She has always been a part of my life. I’ve always had her by my side, learned to live with her by my side. Now, I don’t know if I can live without her by me. I heard a knock on the door and sighed.
“Come in,” I watched as Yamato walked into the room and stood in front of me.
“Hey Kakashi, you look,” he looked me up and down, “uh, well, anyways I need you to come with me”.
“You want me to go with you?”
“We’re going out drinking tonight, just you and me,” he looked so happy if only I could relate.
“I can’t go with you Yamato, I’ve got lots of work to do,”
“Yes but it’s not like you’re doing it anyway, besides, you need to loosen up a bit. After what happened you need it,” damn, Naruto and his loud mouth must have told everyone.
“Fine, I guess I’ll go, but it better be just you and I,” I reluctantly gave in.
“Great I’ll meet you there at 8, oh and uh,” he looked back at me, “make sure you clean up a bit,”. With that Yamato was gone leaving me to my thoughts.
~
I walked into the bar and glanced around for Yamato.
“Right behind you Kakashi,” I turned to look at him.
“So, are we just going to drink until our heart’s content,” I remarked sarcastically.
“Yep, let’s go get one of those booths,” I let Yamato lead the way until I heard it. Y/n’s beautiful laugh. I could pick her laugh out anywhere. Dam, it’s been so long since I’ve heard it. Following my ears, I saw her. Y/n and all her glory, she was with Genma. Why the hell would she be with him.
“Kakashi are you coming,” Yamato followed my eyes, “ oh, crap, Kakashi I’m sorry I had no idea she would be here too,”
“It’s fine,” I mumbled bitterly. “I’m going to go talk to her I’ll be back later,”
“Wait, Kakashi,” I ignored him as I made my way towards the two love birds.
“Well, Y/n, long time no see,” I made my famous closed eye smile, but this time there was a deeper emotion in it.
She looked up at me surprised “o-oh, Kakashi hi”.
I scoffed, “when you told me you were breaking up with me I didn’t know it was because you wanted trash,”
She made a look of offense, “Kakashi, don’t be rude” she tried to finish but I was quick to interrupt her.
“Oh I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to offend anyone,” I stated coldly, “I didn’t take you as the person to leave someone for someone else, Y/n” I spat her name like it was poison.
“Kakashi Hatake,” Y/n stood up from her seat, “If you would be so kind as to meet me outside” she smiled. If I weren’t pissed off, I’d be terrified, Y/n only smiles like that when she is prepared to rip a head off.
“Gladly,” I smiled back.
~
Genma finally talked you into leaving your apartment. It’s been two awful weeks since you broke up with him. You still loved him so much, breaking up with him was the hardest thing you’ve ever done. Currently, you were sitting at a bar with Genma.
“You know Y/n when my girlfriend broke up with me I was so depressed. I didn’t want to do anything, but then she gave me another chance, and look at us now, we’re still together,” you sighed.
“ I know, I want to be with Kakashi and I want our problems to be solved but how are we supposed to solve them when I can’t even voice the problems,” Genma looked at you apathetically.
“He’ll come around looking for you sooner or later and when he does that’s when you should tell him,” you sighed again, Genma was right.
“Look on the bright side, you don’t have to take birth control anymore,” you laughed for what seemed like the first time and months.
“Genma I stopped taking that about 6 months ago when Kakashi stopped getting hard for me,” Genma laughed at that, not expecting you to be so blunt about it.
“Well, Y/n, long time no see,” you stopped for a minute, shocked you looked up to meet Kakashi’s gaze.
“O-oh, Kakashi hi,” he scoffed.
“When you told me you were breaking up with me I didn’t know it was because you wanted trash,” you sat back surprised by the sudden venom in him.
“Kakashi don’t be rude,” I tried to finish but he cut me off.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to offend anyone. I didn’t take you as the person to leave someone for someone else Y/n” he spat my name like it was poison.
“Kakashi Hatake, If you would be so kind as to meet me outside,” now I was pissed, what the hell got into him.
“Gladly” he responded while he followed me to the back door.
Once you got outside you were the first to speak. “What the heck was that Kakashi? You haven’t seen me in two weeks and that’s the first thing you do. Why were you even in the bar in the first place?” you glared up at him not happy with how he was treating your friend.
“I was there with Yamato. Why were you there with Genma? Why didn’t you tell me you left me for someone else Y/n?” he spits the first sentence but you could tell in the last sentence he was hurting.
“I didn’t leave you for someone else-,” Kakashi cuts you off before you can finish.
“Don’t lie to me Y/n,” his eyes were hard and cold.
“Kakashi, will you listen to me, please. I know you’ve never listened before, but you can’t cut me off if you want your questions answered,” he was surprised by the calmness in your voice.
“What do you mean I’ve never listened to you, I always listen to you Y/n and,” he let out a sigh, “I didn’t mean to keep cutting you off like that,” he looked down at his feet.
“Kakashi if you did listen to me we wouldn’t be here right now. If you had listened to me then we would still be together, but you don’t listen, you never listen,” you let out a sigh, “you used to always listen to me, but this last year and a half you’ve done nothing but ignore me,”
“I haven’t ignored you Y/n, we’ve done lots of things together. I mean, I guess the last couple of months It might seem like I have but not the last year,”
“You have though,” you sat down on the steps to the door.
“When Y/n? These last two weeks without you have been awful, I haven’t been able to eat or sleep,” he ran his hand through his hair and sat down next to you.
“It started when you died. You died fighting Pain, I watched it happen,” you brought your hands up to your face and looked down. “It- it still haunts my dreams. Seeing your lifeless body, not hearing your pulse beat. What makes it so terrible is it’s not just a nightmare. It did happen, I watched it. After you woke up you went off to find Naruto. I didn’t get any reassuring word or even a kiss, all I got was a ‘where’s Naruto’ and an ‘I’ll be back later Y/n’. After you found Naruto I only had a day and then you went off to find the Raikage. Then the war happened and now you’re Hokage. Every time I tried to talk to you about the night terrors something came up. Most nights you were too tired to even talk to me. I started to set up dates so that way I could tell you or at least be with you, but you never showed up to any of them. After that, I didn’t even care about telling you I just wanted to be with you. It never happened though, you rejected any form of affection I gave you. At that point, I had a wounded self-esteem and frequent anxiety attacks,” the tears were flowing silently down your face as you told him what you had been wanting to for a while. “It’s w-why I broke up with you, I was falling into a deeper depression every day,” Kakashi moved closer wrapping his arms around you so your face was to his chest. You looked up at him and gasped quietly.
“Kakashi,” you whispered, “don’t cry” he kissed your forehead.
“How am I not supposed to cry when I was hurting you and didn’t even know it,” he sighed, “Y/n, I’m so sorry. I-I had no idea, I should have but I didn’t. I understand why you did it. I can’t even imagine watching you die. It hurts too much,” Kakashi’s voice cracked and so did your heart. You didn’t like him being sad.
“I’m sorry, Kakashi,”
“Sorry for what Y/n? None of this was your fault,” he moved his hand down to wipe your tears.
“Yes, this all could have been avoided if I had just told you,” Kakashi lets out another sigh.
“It was my fault. You tried to tell me, but I promise you Y/n if you give me a chance it will never happen again,” you move back from him and put your pinky finger in front of him.
“Pinky promise?” Kakashi chuckled at your childish antics.
“I pinky promise,” he wrapped his pinky around yours and then leaned in for a kiss.
“I love you Y/n,”
“I love you too,” you leaned in and kissed him once more, “now, go apologized to Genma because he was the kind one who told me I should give you a second chance,”
“He did?”
“Yes, he did, he said his girlfriend gave him and a second chance and it’s been great ever since,’
“Girlfriend?” you could tell he felt stupid for making such wild assumptions.
“Yes, his girlfriend, now go apologize,”
“Right, and then afterward can we cuddle, then have make-up sex, and then cuddle some more?” he pouted like a child.
“Of course we can” you laughed and kissed him.
