20 and 21 for the film ask! ✨
Hello 🫂 These two specifically were so hard, offering three picks for each: one Nostalgic, one Niche, one Obvious but Nonetheless True. This is actually me exhibiting so much restraint you have no idea
20. A film where the vibes are immaculate:
Krysar: La Joueur de Flúte d'Hamelin (1986) - The first weird film my best friend brought to me like, "I've never seen this but I read the description and saw some screencaps and this is a You film". It's a Czech stop motion feature adapting The Pied Piper of Hamelin, it really elevates the original folklore into something special imo
Blood Tea and Red String (2006) - Another film my best friend brought to me, essentially a poem as a film. Highly suggest going in blind, just know that there's no dialogue and it has slowburn pacing
The Fall (2006) - Obvious but very, very good pick. Can't recommend highly enough, can recommend to anyone
21. Films with a great needledrop/score/soundtrack:
Grosse Pointe Blank (1997) - Joe Strummer from the Clash is one of my favorite Guys of all time and he was the music guy for this and I love it, it's about a high school reunion and you can tell he had so much fun finding places to drop his favorite throwbacks
The Phantom of the Paradise (1976) - Yet another film my best friend and I found together, also very heavy influence over Guillermo del Toro in terms of style and subject matter, Paul Walker did the music and also cameos as a music producer who's done a deal with the devil, also Jessica Harper from Suspiria (1977) is in it, and um who knew she could sing? God, I love her
Moonlight (2016) - Gorgeous score by Nicholas Brittell, almost picked this for the previous number as well. Same as The Fall, can't recommend highly enough and will recommend to anyone
Also, I almost picked Troy (2004) for this one because it brought us together and also I included it among a bunch of movies the scores of which I studied for a science project in middle school <3 she's always been like this actually 🤔
#mine#asks#mutuals#hiiii im kicking my feet hiiiiiiiii#this reminds me i need to start actually updating and posting reviews on letterboxd#i was torn between picking the pied piper or morgiana for the nostalgic one bc morgiana is also czech and nostalgic for best friend reasons#morgiana 1972 is also really fun and more Pretty in terms of vibes a very fun watch with friends#but storytelling wise krysar is just better imo#also almost picked how to marry a millionaire for vibes and gentlemen prefer blondes for music#but my answer to film cant be marilyn monroe every time i have grown since i was five presumably#oh shit moulin rouge couldve been a good answer for either too...... i have to post NOW or ill go on forever ahhhhhhhhh#wait also joe strummer putting one of his own band's underappreciated songs in the soundtrack he was asked to put together.... rip icon ily

Usually war films and miniseries pretend they're not homoerotic and it just Happens to be that way. SAS: Rogue Heroes does not do this. See Figure 1.
#sas: rogue heroes#history#war movies#felt weird posting this even though i did not film write or direct this show#cant even put it in my letterboxd list of unintentionally homoerotic war films#a) because its not on letterboxd#and b) because its not unintentional

finished dune 1984! would i have enjoyed it if it didn't star kyle maclachlan? it's hard to say. i love the terrible effects & the score goes hard (toto?!), plus there were some delightfully nasty moments which i always appreciate. and i could never overlook that little pug. also i'm not huge on scifi as a genre, so i tend to like bad scifi more than good scifi (for which reason among others i don't ever intend to watch villeneuve's dune). overall... well i definitely was bored through a lot of it—the plot, which i had kind of a sense of due to cultural osmosis or whatever, didn't matter to me at all—but there were several moments where i was interested in what lynch was doing & i do wonder what he could have done given more freedom.
#ive also never read dune and i dont intend to (once again not really into scifi as a genre)#also there were many things that made me laugh out loud though i cant even remember what now#in all honesty i was only giving like 75% attention to the movie bc its too late for coffee and because my baseline state is chronic boredom#but yknow. i do what i can. and im posting thoughts here bc so many irls follow me on letterboxd and im afraid to voice my opinions

okay so i finished quest for camelot and i think my memory of kayley and garrett being kind of two halves of a whole knight were not really true and also kayley was a bit less useless than i remember, i think the pacing of her growth arc was just so rushed that i didnt really notice it was happening last time. tbh i think most of the movies faults are just the pacing and awkward writing, and the fact that they shoehorned in a bunch of random musical numbers for no reason other than to try to copy disneys formula
also the like, its so weird that they keep making visual references to kayley getting married (even though she doesnt) bc that was a big plot point in the book i guess
tbh im surprised and feel like i should be grateful that they never once mentioned anything about kayley having like woman expectations placed upon her or that she was trying to defy them like no one told her she couldnt be knight bc she was a girl and that takes some real restraint from 90s writers but at the same time, why write it like that anyway??? they made a little joke at the start where she talks about rescuing damsels and she goes "what is a damsel anyway" because the title of the book is the kings damosel and its like, what does this mean though why didnt they actually do anything with this, i guess its supposed to be funny because shes a girl haha she doesnt know SHES supposed to be the damsel
like literally the only difference between this movie and regular "girls can play sports too" 90s pop feminism writing is that they didnt put it in the dialogue
but anyway, all that stuff aside, it wasnt a good movie. like it was just boring, the songs were annoying, the animation and art were pretty ugly, the writing (dialogue especially) was really weak BUT it wasnt as bad as i thought it was when i watched this like 10 years ago, i think i really jumped on the "oh so youre comparing being a woman to being disabled????" idea i had of it, which like, no, they werent doing that, kayley and garrett were both just disadvantaged in their aspirations for becoming knights even though the movie didnt really bother to actually say that or build on that directly
like i think the biggest problem with this movie is it was trying to be THREE different movies at once, a mulan/little mermaid ripoff, a story about a woman and disabled man who form a bond through common adversity and aspiration, and a loose adaptation of a novel about an arthurian side quest, and all three of them are kind of in conflict with each other mostly due to time constraints probably because we had to fit in the fucking looney tunes dragons who hate each other song for some fucking reason
#idk im not writing a review on letterboxd bc if you want to read this post i just wrote#you can probably tell that i cant get many coherent thoughts out due to this fucking brain fog#like ive clearly GOT thoughts i just dont know how to word them properly

i saw a post u reblogged abt pope maybe having letterboxd and jj definitely having letterboxd and u said you always were thinking abt their top fours....... plwase please please i would love to hear what your thoughts on this are, for those two, and/or the other pogues and/or anyone else u have thoughts about 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
omg soooo i cant remember EVERY thing i said but!!
jj def has trash movies and one token good one. chud, frankenhooker, cotton comes to harlem, idle hands! he watched whatever he got from the bootleg man or what was on tv 😭 cotton comes to harlem gets swapped with kill bill from time to time
pope is more half fun half refined! pope just screammmmmms tumblr kid so imo
do the right thing, weird science, submarine, moonrise kingdom. the the right thing often rotates with he got game he just loves spike lee imo!
john b watched whatever his dad had (and also one of the last movies he watched with his mom) so the outsiders, the mummy, bill & ted’s excellent adventure, and he liked zathura over jumanji 😭
i stand by rafe doesnt like movies so he doesnt have a letterboxd 😭 however movies that feel very ‘rafe’ are scarface (barry makes him watch it) american psycho, a clockwork orange, peeping tom
kie also gives tumblr kid but in a different way! daises (which is why sarah doing what she did killed her), death proof, the perks of being a wallflower, palo alto
sarahs are “basic” with one random ass artsy movie. so daises, mean girls, 10 things i hate about you, easy a
now for my girls heres what eye think.
kitten is a horror fiend in a different way than jj. ginger snaps, crash, the thing, possession. the thing gets rotated with doom generation.
foxy is also a tumblr kid, her pope and kitten have v similar tastes! ghost world, the royal tenenbaums, eternal sunshine, donnie darko. royal tenenbaums gets swapped with scott pilgrim and amelie often
bunnys taste is all over the place was ALSO a tumblr kid of the lana del rey variety. shes not a movie girl but she enjoys movies if that makes sense. showgirls, marie antoinette, mean girls, empire records.
lamb actually has very dark movie tastes? but shes happy! she snuck and watched them at the library. daughters of darkness, possession, valerie and her week of wonders, ganja & hess
edit: PLEASE I KNEW I WAS MISSING SOMETHING i forgot pup
shes a pure fun movie enjoyer she loves vibes and visuals. across the universe, almost famous, cant hardly wait, dazed and confused

ohmygod i literally just made an account on letterboxd bc i watched saw (2004) and loved it so much and ur interview was so inspiring to me and ive been on an absolute craze trying to reblog like every single saw post on tumblr and i somehow found your account what the heck?!!?!?! ur art is AMAZING and i absolutely love ur takes on saw as a franchise and its significance to the queer community. i hope to be as knowledgeable of this franchise as you are one day despite me only being a baby saw fan!!
i had a quick question; i found on the saw heritage post blog that they thought leigh/james/someone else confirmed that saw (2004) did not actually occur the day before 9/11 despite the phone given to them being set to that date. however, when i asked them if they knew where this source was from (bc im so curious!!! i want to know everything!!!!!!) but neither they nor i could find the actual source for that so i was wondering if maybe u knew??? just curious :3
regardless ty for taking the time to read this and dedicating so much time to this fandom!! i love that horror fans like you exist in a fandom that i previously thought would be weird and slightly disturbed film bros (i had a lot of incorrect preconceived notions about saw that have been quickly resolved i promise)
thank you!! im glad that people feel the same way about it as i do but even if people thought i was some crazy transexual making everyone else woke and pronouns, i wouldnt care. the story, especially lawrences but adams as well, really resonates with me as a trans person for so so many reasons, more than i listed in the interview. to me, i cant read his character without filling in the gaps with trans subtext. it not only explains but also enriches the personal experiences of these characters as well as their dynamics with each other. theyre both characters that are defined primarily by how theyre seen by other people, themselves, and eventually each other. the narrative is soooo focused on perception and masks and who u truly are, i find it hard to separate any kind of queer theory from that.
as for the 9/11 question thats such a dumbass pet peeve of mine. its one of the things that makes me shout UMMMM ACTUALLY at the top of my lungs. my blood pressure sours to inhuman levels when someone confidently says the movie takes place not just in 2001 but the day before 9/11. not because of some interview or confirmation from any of the crew because my knowledge of old fandom history is incredibly spotty. old sites and interviews r a mystery to me for the most part BUT! the reason it is for sure not before 9/11 is because during the flashback of pauls trap (during lawrences monologue about jigsaw) kerry tapp and sing are all at the scene with other officers and i believe its kerry who holds up an evidence bag thats labeled 2004. the scene takes place 5 months before the events of saw 1 so its not possible that it takes place 3 years before that. it just seemed like a funny (but insanely bold considering how 9/11 was only 3 years before) joke and easter egg for people to catch on to, not actual lore meant to be taken seriously.
if u want to look for the interview, i would honestly just listen to the commentary tracks bc it mightve been said there. i know in the one with leigh, james, and cary they discuss plot holes fans complained about, questions fans had online, the fanfic they read (briefly LOL). ive only seen that one (and once) but theres at least 2 other commentary tracks with different people that i havent gotten around to for fear of like. completing saw? idk i cant bring myself to watch all of the commentary tracks but theres a chance they discuss it there! i can only speculate on the reason, all i know is that saw 2004 takes place in 2004 based on actual evidence from the media itself
if u have any other questions let me know. i still have the original draft of the interview which had more questions and longer responses bc i couldve gone on for days abt the lore and saw queer theory and ill never shut up about it

Ranking all of Ariana grande albums. For context im a huge fan, im 20 so was in that age range that essentially grew up seeing her career flourish and I’ve relistened to all of em. Theres a lot of music (particularly pop music because ive been through many phases of hating pop) that’s from my youth that i would never go back to, but never Ariana Grande she’s the artist of our generation.
Also none of them are bad
1- eternal sunshine- feels like a culmination of all of the different styles she’s done into one album, beautifully personal while also being optimistic and positive, even when the topic is sad. This one definitely grew on me when it first came out i liked it but it didn’t rlly have super strong feelings over it,but she recently dropped some live sessions of some of the songs and it RLLY blew me away, which caused me to revisit the album and appreciate it for what it is. It’s an album about genuine healing, whereas ‘thank u, next’ was projecting healing. The album art is simple and gorgeous. In terms of the concept, around the movie ‘eternal sunshine of the spotless mind’: this is my favourite movie OAT, always in my letterboxd top four. Its been a favourite since i was 16 and my initial reaction that she was naming the album after it was ‘eeee🙄’ just bc i cant help but be a gatekeeper and didn’t want all her fans making it their entire personality and acting like it’s their fav movie too😭. And tbf I didn’t see much of that so im cool w it now. I totally see how Ariana saw the connections between these songs and the movie and she’s also said so many times she’s a huge Jim carrey fan so i think it was a beautiful choice. Some have said the ‘concept album’ idea, creating a character ‘peaches’ (ref to clementine) is way to get around her divorce NDA, i dont rlly care either way. I’m a HUGEEE fan of the Jon Brion’s score/soundtrack for the movie listened to it so many times so i was hoping to get some of that soft, minimalistic, dreamy Elliot smith style. But the closest thing to that was probably the title track (where she sampled Imogen heaps ‘just for now’), and it’s so beautiful.
2-positions- its an underrated brilliant album which should’ve got way more hype that it did. It feels like an elevated, mature version of ‘Dangerous Woman’ and had some great features, her and the weeknd are always incredible and the ballad is beautiful. It’s a shock to me that people were underwhelmed by her and doja on motive bc it was so fun and always gets me movin. She also worked w Leon Thomas on ‘safety net’ which is one of her most magical, beautiful songs she’s ever done. Also she looked so good during this era no offense to her eternal sunshine style it’s so pretty and much more my style, but brown hair high ponytail 60s makeup suits her so well😭. I definitely think its a different experience listening to it post divorce, seeing a lot of the song are v sexy and giving honeymoon phase, but then ull hear lyrics like ‘acts so possessive and crazy, but ik its jus cuz u love me’ and songs like off the table and pov which show her vulnerability and insecurity. Idk if this is true but apparently someone commented on an eternal sunshine post saying positions is better and she responded ‘glad u finally like it! :)<3’ which i feel so bad for bc GIRL I WAS THERE. I LIKED IT.
3- dangerous woman- i was obsessed w her before this album but this got me OBSESSED. It’s a complete classic where she rlly showed her RnB skills with her pop skills and solidified her presence in the music industry. The songs are classics and for the most part aged pretty well. They bring you back to that era of music yet still work in this era and people love that. Like she performed into you at the met gala this year and its had a whole resurgence and reminded people of the pop star she truly is, like that fixed her image more than ‘yes, and?’ did. I will say there may be too many songs on it bc some of the pop songs are pretty forgettable. But when i say that know I NEVER MEAN JASONS SONG. That was a hidden gem of a diss track fr.
4- sweetener- sweetener and thank u next had always flip flopped for me in rankings but this recent relisten has made me realise yeah this has totally aged super well. Pharrells producing is super cool and unique and she’s definately implemented that style going forward, even though fans weren’t super receptive of it it doesn’t feel dated at all. If anything she was ahead of the curve. Girl literally started everyone typing in just lowercase and the upside down thing, all style and fashion choices she made during this time ud catch girls in school doing it too including me she was unstoppable. REM is iconic, and theres underrated gems like her cover of goodnight n go, and borderline. Also i wanna say people joke abt the song pete davidson abt how she shouldn’t have called it that, but like hearing the vibes of the song and the fact that theres so many jokes abt Pete Davidson being a women magnet it’s genius. Like imagine a small indie artist singing that cute dreamy love song and calling it pete davidson it would be fucking hilarious.
5- thank u, next- ik this is her pièce de résistance and i think it’s a great album, you rlly do get the sense that its all her emotions that were overwhelming her that she needed to get out as soon as possible. The trap style is great, with ‘in my head’ being a standout, it’s evident comparing to the rest of her stuff it’s her equivalent to a rebellious phase. It’s superrrr personal, almost too personal, not for the listeners but for her considering she said she didn’t wanna put ‘ghostin’ on the album but scooter kept pushing it. Beautiful song, but so sad. I just dont find myself revisiting a lot of them apart from in my head bc they just feel so of that time and no longer my thing.
6- yours truly- rlly cute album especially for a debut beginning of her black and white yet feline and feminine aesthetic. Luvvvedd the tenth anniversary lives she did, The Way will forever be a classic. The right there mv was everything to me as a kid. Her n big Sean were so good together their songs always hit. Putting this low bc why was there random EDM breaks at the end of some song nOt necessary gurl. And also she’s improved SO MUCH since this and it was such a strong debut its crazy
7- my everything- dont get me wrong this is great album started showing us her rnb n hip hop side, love her songs w big Sean, best mistake is one of her best songs, also be my baby (she always killed it w cashmere cat). Just the songs aren’t anything super crazy or unique theyre just 2014 hit singles if she kept up w this style instead of maturing w dangerous woman she would not be where she is now. But remember when she started a whole challenge of trying to sit on a stool bc of this album cover? Shes always got people talking even when she’s not trying.
