it was so interesting how the mihawk vs zoro fight was different in the manga than in the show.
Tumblr media
i feel it was much more sudden, no planning the duel for next day, just when zoro saw mihawk he already knew he has to try and fight him.
luffy doesn't say anything against if even if they had just seen mihawk split that ship with just his sword. he accepts it (because he already understands he can't stand in the way of zoro's dream), and stands close by without saying anythign almost the whole fight. watching it closely.
Tumblr media
and when zoro is having troubles, luffy still holds johnny and yosuku back so they don't interfere with the duel .
only after zoro is defeated and drops in the water, luffy loses it, and goes after mihawk with so much anger.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it was a nice and interesting moment that mihawk saw luffy holding the others away from the fight.
lets luffy know that he didn't kill zoro.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and then this whole thing sksajds
Tumblr media
"luffy, can you hear me?"
"i hear you."
Tumblr media
the way they showed it in the show was great - with how close luffy was by zoro's side, immediately checking up on him and hearing what zoro wanted to say to him directly.
but the way it's in the manga, it's almost heartbreaking because they're some distance away and luffy has to ask usopp if zoro is ok, and zoro isn't even sure if luffy is around, but he needs him to know!
Tumblr media
that we won't ever fail!
"got a problem with that, king of the pirates?"
Tumblr media
and same as in the show, luffy in different words say zoro could never fail him! he's so happy zoro survived that

i think this most recent chapter perfectly illustrates how well yor balances out loid. being a spy, loid was taught to always be analytical and logical in all his decisions, so it’s difficult for him to leave that state of mind.
yor, on the other hand, still has to be analytical due to her assassin job. but since she had yuri growing up, she had to put that aside when she came home. she had to be a welcoming and friendly figure in his life.
now she’s teaching loid how to relax sometimes, how to live in the moment, how to let anya be a kid and enjoy her childhood because they weren’t able to. i think this is the reason yor always indulges in anya’s ideas while loid is much more apprehensive about them.
in short: yor is gentle parenting her husband lmfao

Edward Elric actually perfectly average size (164 cm / 5.3 ft) for a fifteen year old child in 1914.
It's just that he's usually compared to his brother, Alphonse Elric, who appears way over 6 ft tall at the age of 14.
Alphonse is an outlier and should not have been counted.

[punk hazard/dressrosa arc spoiler heavy lawlu rambling]
recently I saw a video that was comparing luffy to naruto and the fact that luffy is not a hero when compared to naruto because naruto saved people even when the people that needed saving refused it (ie uchiha sasuke) but luffy? luffy saved countries on his selfish whim and all the other people he saved, he waited until they asked for it. he waited nami to ask for his help and robin to tell him she wanted to live.
except you know who? trafalgar law.
we could tell that law was planning on a suicide mission when he went to punk hazard on his own. he sent off his crew to zou and was wandering alone to find out more about the SAD factories and knew he risk angering doflamingo by destroying it. during that time, he saw an opportunity, formed that alliance with the strawhat and marched on to dressrosa.
retrospectively looking at it, there was no doubt that he was using the strawhat crew. he was putting them all in an unprecedented amount of danger by stepping on doflamingo's turf, the risk he wasn’t willing to put on his own crew that he sent away much earlier.
law definitely felt guilty over it.
at least for a little bit, when law watched luffy almost got his ass handed to him by doflamingo when law was helplessly restrained on the flower hill at the new king’s plateau and was making a fuss for the others to let him free despite his heavy injury until robin who could see through law’s intention and action had to say it: “luffy is here because of his own free will.”
after the deal at greenbit fell through and law found out doflamingo had been manipulating the press, he tried to break the alliance. threatened to kill luffy once luffy uncuffed him. but luffy just shut him up and lugged him all over the place like a sack of flour over his tiny shoulder and fought doflamingo till the end.
one could argue that luffy did that because rebecca asked him to, but revenge against doflamingo was also one of the things that occupied law’s the most since he lost cora-san. he just didn’t directly ask luffy to beat the shit out of doflamingo on his behalf. yet luffy did it anyway.
so back to the whole naruto vs luffy comparison at the beginning of this post? at least there’s one exception where luffy helped someone against his will and acted like a goddamn hero. and it is towards the damsel in distress that is trafalgar d water law.

Tokito Muichiro in regards to being useful
aka I thought a bit too hard about chapter 179 and now we're here (KNY Manga spoilers obviously)
you ever think about how much emphasis Muichiro puts on how much use he can be and how that determines his worth?
When he first appears in the ssv arc he comes off as cruel and arrogant, stating that some lives have more value than others, and evaluating said value through one's use and how many lives they can save. Tanjiro notes that the other wasn't being malicious and while I do think that he's confident in his skills as a demon slayer, it's less so in an arrogant sense and more like stating a fact he's confident is true. He's strong, being a hashira and slaying countless demons is proof. He's probably been underestimated for his age countless times but he knows better than anyone just how hard he worked to get here. (Tetsuido being one of the few that knew)
His utility is proof of his skill and worth.
I fully believe that in the event Muichiro was ever asked if this way of thinking meant that his life would be worth less if he wasn't a hashira, he would simply agree. (But he is a hashira. And his time is too precious to waste on hypotheticals.)
We then find out about Muichiro's past, and how Yuichiro told him the mu in muichiro meant incompetence and meaningless. We find out how they fought over Muichiro's desire to help and how Yuichiro said that a boy who couldn't even cook rice would never be able to save anyone, and that all they could do was to die meaningless deaths like their parents.
Muichiro has always wanted to help others. But Yuichiro ties down that infinite kindness with weakness and incompetence in a desperate attempt to keep the only family he has left safe.
The demon that attacked them also called their lives worthless. Again and again, there is talk about how little he can do and how that equates to what your life is worth. I wonder if the way Muichiro assigned different value to lives later on was subconsciously influenced by this. How ironic it is that he went from one of those "worthless" lives to one of such importance.
I'm sure after getting his memories back Mui knows that there's more to life than that. (He was born to be happy) But I can't help but feel like that thinking still sticks around to some capacity. He knows that what you can do doesn't define your worth, but his desire to help and be useful never truly leaves.
(There is a difference in wanting to help others and the need to be useful. For Muichiro, they come hand in hand.)
Even in his final moments, Muichiro refuses to die not out of a desire to live but because he refuses to be useless. He's tried his best this whole time, no one would fault him for not being able to do anything after being cut in fucking half. No one but himself. He needs to be of use, he needs to protect his friends.
Tokito Muichiro has always wanted to help others.
