alright. i'm taking it upon myself to put something to rest.
there is a new mlvn argument on the market, and i have to say, it is the absolute most BACKWARDS, IDIOTIC, WILFULLY IGNORANT take i have ever seen from them. and it is so easily disprovable that i need to make a post about it and put it in the ground early on.
if you've been around since s4 vol1 era, then you've seen the evolution of their arguments surrounding the monologue. first it was "mlvn was love at first sight, because mike said so". they were all posting the clip from s1 ep 1 of mike finding el in the woods, clips from all throughout s1, and saying "this mike was in love with el!!" because mike said so. in the monologue. when bylers pointed out that this claim from mike directly contrasts his behavior in s1, we were called delusional and told we were just coping. i was even told by someone on reddit that mike wasn't acting like he loved her because he was afraid of being made fun of by dustin and lucas, which deserves it's own separate post, but anyways...
after what finn said at the paris con, aka this:
bylers obviously took this as a win, because it very obviously completely dismisses the idea that mike was being truthful in the monologue. because of this, mlvn's argument has shifted. now, they are claiming that what mike said in the monologue, "I knew right then and there in that moment that I loved you." was not a lie, but HYPERBOLE.
here's just a few examples of this.
holy fuck. where do i even start with this...
i guess let me start by saying that i am an english major. i am a creative writing student. english language arts has always been my forte. it's been my best subject my entire life. i was the kid people went to for help in ELA (english language arts). i was the one tutoring my friends. i was the one explaining things to them. in college my friends would line up to get my help with their english work. i edited and revised their essays. i spent close to 10 hours a week in english classes discussing literary devices and analyzing different stories, which i excelled at.
i am not trying to 'flex', i am simply providing context as to why i believe my opinion on this is worth something. mlvns try to say being a writing/film student means nothing in this argument, but it really really fucking does. i, and countless others in the byler fandom, are LITERALLY more educated in this sort of thing than those who did not spend thousands of dollars to study it. sure we may not be renowned writers with masters degrees, but who do you think we learned from?? our professors, who ARE renowned writers with masters degrees. its no different than trusting the opinion of a biology major when talking about biology. of course ELA is more subjective and free, but when you actually study it you find that its more concrete than you'd think. there are definitions, there are guidelines, there are rights and wrongs. of course you do not have to obey those rules, but in the world of publishing and analysis there are things that make sense, and things that don't make sense.
for example. you can totally write a story where a character says "i knew right then and there in that moment that i loved you" and add whatever explanation or nuance that you want. you can write that with the intention of the character being truthful, but maybe exaggerating a bit. whatever you please. you have the creative freedom to do that whether it makes sense or not.
what you cannot do is claim that that phrase is a hyperbole in that context, or any context, because that is OBJECTIVELY wrong. that is incorrect and inarguable. there are phrases that could potentially be debated between those educated in ELA on whether or not it could be considered a hyperbole, but that would requite the phrase to have ambiguous wording. the phrase in question does not check those boxes. it is not ambiguous in any way shape or form. it's not hyperbole. it's not even hyperbolic in any way.
here's a link to an article with 50 different examples of hyperboles. i promise you that our quote in question will not be there, and that nothing on that list will be remotely similar to it.
"I knew right then and there in that moment that I loved you."
i mean you are genuinely a fucking doofus if you're genuinely trying to claim this is a hyperbole. i need you to be so fucking for real. mike is referring back to a specific moment, remember? maybe you don't because i know y'all don't even watch the show, so let me refresh your memory:
"But the truth is, El...I don't know how to live without you. I feel like my life started that day we found you in the woods. You were wearing that yellow Benny's Burgers shirt, and it was so big it almost swallowed you whole. I knew right then and there in that moment that i loved you. And I have loved you every day since."
el even has a flashback to that exact moment in the scene right after he says it, and right before he says "I knew right then and there etc..."
he literally starts it off with "The truth is"
not meant to be taken literally.
would it make sense to say "The truth is, I'm so tired I could sleep for a century." or "The truth is, I'm so hungry I could eat a horse." or "The truth is, I'm dying of laughter."
NO! IT WOULDNT!
mike's monologue was written/approved by the duffers. the same duffers who graduated from a very prestigious film school and created the biggest tv show in the world. they know what a fucking hyperbole is and that you don't preface one with "the truth is". it is genuinely ridiculous to suggest that they let that stay in a scene where a character is supposed to be finally revealing the truth to both another character and the audience.
let's circle back to those screenshots of dumbass mlvns cosplaying as ELA students
"i fell in love with you instantly" vs "i fell in love with you mere days after we met . ur arguing semantics when the point is that they fell for each other really fast"
please tell me, in WHAT fucking world does someone say "I knew right then and there [in the first moment I saw you] that I loved you" when trying to explain that they really fell in love a few days later. and in WHAT UNIVERSE would a WRITER choose to have their character, who is supposed to finally be telling the unfiltered truth, say that. the answer is, there isn't one. that is so fucking backwards and idiotic that i can't believe i'm even having to explain why. the monologue is fabricated. it was written and approved by professional writers and directors. if mike fell in love with el at some later point in s1, or realized it at some later point in s1, then he could've just fucking said that. he could've just told her the moment he fell for her or the moment he realized. they didn't have to make it all twisted and confusing for no reason. he has absolutely no reason to lie or exaggerate (if he is straight and in love with her).
DING A LING A LING A LING!!!!! THATS A BELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"this feels like taking mikes words too literally"
oh, my apologies for taking his words literally during a fucking CONFESSION OF LOVE that he gave her while she was DYING. sorry for taking a line prefaced by "The truth is" literally. you are totally right and i will never do that again!
"when looking back on it it probably does feel like he loved her from the start"
cute sentiment, but that's literally NOT WHAT HE SAID. for the millionth time (see how i just used a hyperbole in a place where it makes sense? where i didn't preface it by saying it was the unfiltered truth?) he said "I knew right then and there in that moment that I loved you." he is saying he saw el in the woods in the rain in her yellow benny's burgers shirt, and KNEW he loved her. he realized it in that moment. that is what he wants el to believe. he is using specific language to pin point the moment he realized it on that moment. like im so serious when i say that if you try to say anything else you genuinely have worms for brains.
any way you logically look at this, it is crushing for mlvn. even if it was a hyperbole, which it is NOT, why the hell would the writers have him exaggerate his feelings to cater to her when it would be much more meaningful for his ACTUAL feelings to save her life?? why would mike feel like he needed to exaggerate?? and i'm sorry, i dont buy the heat of the moment bs. mike has nearly lost el multiple times because he kept lying to her. they had a bad fight days earlier because mike wouldn't tell her the truth. so he finally gets another chance to tell her the truth, and he EXAGGERATES?? HE TELLS A WHITE LIE??? that would also be crushing for mlvn. but none of that matters, because it's not a hyperbole, it's a lie. a flat out lie.
let be me clear, that does not make mike a bad person. in fact, it actually makes him an incredible, caring, selfless person. (remember the synopsis for s4 ep9? "With selfless hearts and a clash of metal, heroes fight from every corner of the battle field to save Hawkins ---and the world itself.") he lied because he knows he doesn't love el the way she wants and he feels like his actual love for her (which is platonic) would not be enough to save her. he devalues his own feelings because they are not what el wants. this is why he nodded after will said "It's scary to open up like that, to say how you really feel. Especially to people you care about the most. Because...what if they don't like the truth?" he feels like he owes el the love she wants, and he is willing to lie to her if it means saving her life. because he truly does love her and care about her, so much that he will do whatever it takes to not lose her.
and i know a lot of mlvn's devalue literary/media analysis and english/creative writing, and our opinions in general, so in case all that wasn't enough, i also asked mlvn's old friend about this. their friend being AI.
mlvns, everything with a lick of sense, including artificial intelligence, is proving you wrong. you are incorrect. what finn said at the paris con put the nail in your ships coffin and you know it. so please stop embarrassing yourselves on the internet and making dumbass claims like this when you know nothing about the subject. you look stupid.
this rant isnt just coming from a place of byler truther anger, it's english major anger. LEAVE MY SUBJECT ALONE. PLEASE.

New to your blog and I'm curious and think this will probably be a good ask for you to cook on for a while: Sell me on Naddpod?
well first of all welcome! as much as i walk like a d20 blog and talk like a d20 blog i am in fact a naddpod blog a lot of the time so. look out. (everyone)
this is gonna get long.
now, to the task at hand.
naddpod.
imagine if you will that four improvisers/comedians who are very good friends combine their powers to tell stories that they want to completely sit in while also having the ultimate goal of making each other laugh.
naddpod is first and foremost a comedy podcast, there’s a reason dragon pussy comes up four and a half minutes in, there’s a reason “cumpatriots” being said in today’s episode left me completely unfazed. they want it to be silly. they enjoy it being silly.
but god do they also just simply care.
they care about their characters, they care about each other’s characters. they create a world together where when the dm (murph, most often) gives them a shocking twist, you can hear them waiting with bated breath, the same as you, for what will come next.
there are also so many deeply devastating emotional moments. “you ruined my night, brian.” is said in the show and oft repeated by the fans for a goddamn reason. you feel for the characters when bad things happen. you can’t wait to see them resolved. and they don’t feel cheap when they happen. you’re having a great time even as they have terrible times.
the worlds feel lived in. you also feel like you can see the worlds be created as you listen. it’s just so fun. there are several episodes where if i listen to them during a shit day i feel so much better.
sometimes, it’s deeply stupid. and it’s very fun. god are some bits insane. (shoutout to dip spit). but it’s just a good time.
they’re also incredible writers. the stories the dms are trying to tell come from this pure place of loving what they’re doing and being very good at it.
murph’s encounters are also some of the best in the game. even when they’re similar they don’t feel tired. he creates pictures you can see so vividly without having any visual aids. he keeps the stakes high even though he clearly wants his players to win. and they’re so endlessly creative. (c3 def has some of the best encounters due to his experience at that point but don’t discount some of the mighty c1 and c2 ones either)
in conclusion, listen to naddpod. please. you’ll have a great time. if you don’t enjoy the dragon pussy of it all, you might not love it, but if you enjoy it or can power through it, you’ll have fun.
and now. a quick rundown of like the general conceit of each (completed) campaign off the top of my head. in case you’re curious about where to start. (you can start at the beginning of any of these, in any order) and fuck it. i’m including a spotify link to every ep 1. i’m also def gonna do a bad job so. grain of salt etc etc.
bahumia (campaign 1): three legendary heroes saved the world three years ago, cumulating in their killing the devil. but then they vanished. and things have gone bad. so our adventurers attempt to figure out what happened. and how they can fix it. (100 episodes, dm’d by murph) (x)
trinyvale: sci-fi. three roommates work for a corporation on mini retrieval missions that eventually all come together to point toward one large mystery: what happened to the gods and how does it impact the world? (22 episodes, plus a few one-shots or mini arcs, dm’d by caldwell) (x)
the mavrus chronicles: five lads who are each other’s boys go on a beach vacation and one gets lost. they have to find out what happened, and find their friend, even if it means trekking across the water into the mysterious fog (7 episodes, dm’d by emily, ft. zac oyama’s guest pc from bahumia) [also has a sequel campaign, blazing babe, where they go to a burning man-esque festival and try to figure out who’s trying to ruin it. you can’t listen to that on its own. it has 4 episodes](x)
eldermourne (campaign 2): a dark fairy tale setting where those devoted to the gods continue to hold their alleged promises over people’s heads without quite explaining what it really means. and a secret order has left behind our heroes, who have no choice but to try to track them and what they’re working toward down. (41 episodes, dm’d by murph) (x) (also has a session 0)
ba2mia (campaign 3): we return to the world of campaign one, 200 years later. things have changed in the world a lot in the time in between, and it’s a much more cyber-punky place now. our heroes work for a megacorp attempting to dig itself into every major city in the world. they do their best to outrun that. and its ripples. (72 episodes, dm’d by murph) (x) (session 0ish)
twilight sanctorum: the family business is as detectives. and the business is slow. in a noir setting, a father/grandfather, son/father, and grandson/son work together to solve one single mystery: who is threatening the featured performer at the town’s most famous theater. (4 episodes. dm’d by emily) (x)
the episodes i shared will give a better early description than i did, certainly. bc they thought about them more.
anyway. long answer over. hope this helps. maybe. idk it ran away from me a little bit.
thanks for the ask!!
#yeah fuck it i’ll maintag this one#naddpod#asks#valerico#i’m sorry this is so long#i edited this to add more lol sorry

Fantasy 1
Warnings: non/dubcon, stalking, and other dark elements. My username actually says you never asked for any of this.
My warnings are not exhaustive but be aware this is a dark fic and may include potentially triggering topics. Please use your common sense when consuming content. I am not responsible for your decisions.
Characters: Curtis Everett
This AU is called Watcher Anonymous and will include different series for different characters. This is our introduction to Curtis and Whimsy.
Summary: the bookshop window holds intrigue for both buyer and seller.
As usual, I would appreciate any and all feedback. I’m happy to once more go on this adventure with all of you! Thank you in advance for your comments and for reblogging ❤️
The door creaks shut as another customer enters. Curtis looks up, greets them with a silty, hey, then goes back to reading. His business isn’t extravagant. He doesn’t need one of those paperback mills selling mass-produced ‘Now a Feature Film’ shills. He works for himself, by himself, and he likes it that way.
The sunlight traces the outline of the marquee painted on the window onto the table of fiction classic and ripples over the floor. A silhouette appears on the other side of the glass, another passing by. He looks without lifting his head. He’s honed the skill of looking without looking.
It’s her. She passes everyday, twice a day. Once alone, and once with that man. As she admires the cover he hand-painted to display on the ledge, her escort comes back to hurry her along. Her disappoint darkens her eyes and tugs at her lips. She turns and walks away with him.
Curtis sighs. She deserves better. Almost a year of her stopping and staring and she’s never set a foot inside. It’s not the business he mourns, it’s the smile that faded at least nine months ago. She used to point out the displays to that other man but after he shrugged her off enough, she stopped trying.
He can’t claim sainthood. He’s not the most enthusiastic person but he never blights out someone’s passion. He has his own, it’s his business fortunately enough, and he keeps it locked up to keep it safe. Some might see him as stoic but he’s really just cautious.
He closes the book. He’s not in a mind to read anymore. He can’t follow the dialogue. The customer comes up to pay for a three for five combo and he packs it in a paper bag before sending them off.
As he sits on his stool, he pulls out the old anthology of Grimm tales he found on eBay. He can restore it but he’s not sure he should just fix the binding or replace the cover altogether. He has an idea, a princess and a cad, robbing her away from her tower...
Hm.
The hours tick by and customers come and go. A few children flurry in with their mother only to be disappointed by the lack of Dog Guy or whatever the new fad is. Their guardian pays for a copy of Bronte and goes, promising ice cream to her unsated brood.
He closes up at six. He has routine. He balances the till and locks everything up. His stomach stirs as he stands outside the door. That night, he has other plans.
He did it one time. Once. He followed her and that man. He locked the door and left a sign, back in twenty. It was an hour.
He retraces the steps he made all those weeks ago. The ones he strode in his dreams. He should be doing this. He gets to her building and turns back. He stops himself at her corner.
He opens Discord. He pulls up the chat with Jake.
‘You there?’
A minute then it shows his friend typing.
‘Sup?’
Curtis doesn’t know how to explain. He knows he can tell Jake anything; Jake tells him everything.
He gets his thoughts together. He leans on a pole and taps the keys. ‘I’m here.’
‘At my place????’
‘Hers’. He sends and a shiver rolls over him.
‘Everything ok?’ Jake asks.
‘Don’t know why.’ Is all Curtis can come up with.
He puts his phone away. It doesn’t matter what Jake says. He's there and he’s not turning back. Besides, it’s not like he’s going to do anything.
He walks by her building. She’s on the second floor. He saw her in the window the first time. It’s hard to see up but climbing a tree is a little much. He sees the lamp light and her shadow, but not much else. He’s annoyed. He didn’t think this through even though it’s all he thought about. Ever.
He lingers, retracing his steps, wandering around the building, avoiding odd looks. It’s almost nine. The side door opens on his twentieth lap of the block. He pauses at the jangle of cans. He knows her by her gait, even as he can only see her legs behind the big bin of recycling.
She goes to the taller bins lined up behind the dumpster. She struggles to get the lid up before she dumps the contents. She leans the empty container on top and sniffles. She wipes her eyes and winces. She pulls away but lingers at the corner of the building.
She touches her cheek as if checking it. It must be tender as she lets out a squeak. He doesn’t know many ways she’d hurt herself there...
His sole scuffs and she flinches. She looks over at him and hikes up the bucket. He’s been caught.
“Nice night,” he says and tries not to cringe. He sounds as cheesy as Jake.
“Sure is,” she agrees with a croak.
Silence. Awkward and unfurling. She teeters as if afraid to move. He can tell she wants to flee. He doesn't want her to be afraid of him, not like she is with that man.
“You okay?” He asks.
She twitches again, “f-fine,” she ekes out.
“Sorry to bother,” he says, “have a good one.”
“Thanks... you too,” she turns and flops away in her slippers.
His chest is tight. He makes himself walk away. That was too close.
He takes his phone out at the end of the street. Jake sent him several messages. He assures him everything is alright. He knows his friend won’t read it for a while. It’s late and he’s doing his ‘surveillance’. All the better, Curtis doesn’t feel like talking.

Girl, but no one (or most people at least) don’t deny that she did bad stuff.
The point of Caitlyn’s arc is that by trying to defeat Jynx she becomes in someone like Jynx. Then, she regrets that decision and does everything she can to make it right.
I think that the problem is that for a lot of people her remorse is not obvious and for others it is.
Honestly, for me it is there.
She faces Ambessa, and is willing to die to prevent what she is going to do, and Ambessa being able to do that is directly her fault so she is trying to mend her mistake.
At the end there is NO indication that Caitlyn is still in the police force. Neither her or Vi have a police uniform. I don’t know if because of League Canon this is the only ending possible for them, but the show already canonized enforcer Caitlyn and Vi, so their characters still could have a different ending. (I am not sure of this, is someone knows more you can correct me)
Some people say that they are going to be probably like vigilantes or a unique entity separated from the enforcers, acting on their own. But I don’t know if this is confirmed or if it is a headcanon.
There is also no indication that she won’t use her wealth to help Zaun.
The real problem people have is that Arcane is very open ended. After watching it I also felt I needed more closure. But you are assuming she didn’t do any of that when the show just doesn’t give any answers to where Cait and Vi story is going forward. They are still mourning the situation in S2 end and their characters could go anywhere.
Of course, your point can be that since it is open ended then her redemption arc is not completed and I think that’s fair. However, even if it wasn’t completed her remorse and her change of heart is in the show.
But I commented because this post is talking like those things are confirmed and from what I know their ending and what they are going to do going forward is not confirmed. We don’t know anything about what the characters are going to do in the future. The only character that maybe had some closure ironically was Singed 😒.
We don’t know what Ekko is going to do, he lost almost everyone. We don’t know what happened to Jayce and Viktor. We don’t know what Cait and Vi are going to do. We don’t know if Jynx survived and what she is going to do if she lives. We don’t know what awaits to Mel but the next show is going to be about her. In general, most of the main cast didn’t have a concrete answer of what happened to them or what it is going to happen. I think that a satisfying closure was the one of Jayvik and Jynx, even if we don’t know what is going to happen their ending feels like a closure.
I think (well, my hypothesis) is that if a spin off about them doesn’t happen, they might have a small appearance in the Noxus show or they might publish a comic book or book about their future story to see what happens with them.
a lot of people don’t understand why caitlyn gets so much criticism for her actions in s2. while it is true that she was being manipulated by ambessa, caitlyn was already taking a dark turn before ambessa suggested martial law and appointed caitlyn as a general. in ep 1 she uses “us v them” rhetoric to describe piltovans and zaunites when she tells vi “i thought you were on our side” and later refers to zaunites as animals. in ep 3, her turn to fascism is cemented when she gasses zaun (which is a war crime) and threatens heenot when he was being cooperative. it’s very infantilizing to blame all the bad stuff she does in s2 to ambessa’s influence when we are shown countless examples that prove otherwise and caitlyn herself has always been pretty classist. while it does make sense that caitlyn would grow wary of putting the city under martial law, we should’ve seen the process that lead her to that position instead of having time skip after she becomes the dictator of piltover. it’s even more frustrating when she never faces any consequences for her actions in s2. i know a popular argument is that caitlyn is “redeemed” by giving sevika a seat on the council, my problem with that argument is that the audience can’t deduce bc it is the background of an EPILOGUE instead of being a full scene in an episode. additionally, i don’t think that caitlyn “giving” sevika a council seat is actual redemption since she is the only zaunite on the council and it is still dominated by the wealthiest clans in the city. caitlyn is apart of one the richest families in piltover, she could have easily redeemed herself by quitting the police force and using her wealth to improve zaun; it would’ve been a logical conclusion to her character arc bc in s1, after learning about the struggles zaunites go through, she works with vi to try to improve things. in s2, she should be fully aware of why brutally occupying zaun was wrong and amend her wrongs by helping heal the city like she promised in s1 ep7.

Ben’s Big BL Blurb 5: Let’s Talk About Sex
I was mostly planning to check in again after the current Japanese shows ended, but after three out of four sex scenes left me wanting this week, I want to write down my ideas. I maintain that bed scenes, like action scenes, need to tell us more about the characters. Many sex scenes serve as a release of tension or confirmation of existing feelings. As usual, MAME seems to understand this, and others should probably take notes.
Call Me By No Name is Doing Nothing For Me (5/8)
I have just about given up on this show. I don’t get Megumi’s whole deal, why she’s so in love with Kohata, or Kohata’s reticence. I was really hoping that an intimate scene would open up some space for vulnerability and truth with them to give us some answers about why these two weirdos are drawn to each other, but that’s not what we got. I was hoping that when we saw these two go at it we’d learn how much Megumi has felt for women before, or how she responded to Kohata’s experience. Instead, I’m left feeling cold by the whole affair, and generally baffled by the conflicting themes around going somewhere she did cutesy girl nights before, and ordering the cute food. This one is a chop.
Impression of Youth is Wasting My Time (5/9)
I have my own squicks as a former teacher with stories where a teacher messes around with their student. However, I don’t see the point of doing a teacher-student story if we’re not going to explore any of the lines being crossed here. We also didn’t get a good arc about the student helping the teacher properly reconnect with a feeling, or discover something, that helped him get back to his art. We simply had him start painting on the beach again, the kid confessed, and then they fucked with awkward kissing. I was a bit let down by the brother’s fast encouragement of the whole thing. It felt like they were reaching for the same energy we had in Call Me By Your Name (2017) with Oliver and Elio, but it’s missing the component where Oliver knew what he was doing the whole time for me. The overall alignment feels off, and I’m getting so little emotion from this show as a result. On top of all that, they showed us the kid’s boxers before implying he was nude in the shower! Ridiculous!
When It Rains It Pours is Being Shy About Sex in a Show About Cheating (5/7)
This is the biggest offender of the week for me. This show is all about how the leads cannot have sex from the people they love, and find someone they can commiserate with in each other. When the dam finally breaks and they both need the release in each other, I was so dismayed that the show tried to gloss over as much of the sex as possible. It’s so fucking annoying for me when the shows about sex get precious about it and won’t show it. I was thankful that they tried to capture all the emotions happening around the weekend they spent together, but I think we lost a lot in not having Hagiwara blow Sei, because you just know that man has a people pleasing streak that would require him to give pleasure back. The lack of sex also means that there is no gap time between the infidelity and the discovery. We don’t give enough time for the shift in their relationship to breathe before the crisis (@respectthepetty). I’ve lamented before about Japanese shows only showing toxic or breakup sex, and so it’s damned annoying that they’re doing that in the cheating show because they probably want these guys to be together by the end. I was really hoping Mood Indigo would have some company finally (especially after Love in the Air Koi), but I clearly need to stay patient. Cannot overstate how lame it is for the show about two guys cheating because their partners won’t fuck them being shy about the sex effectively sides with the partners who won’t fuck them. Finally, I am not over them getting the insertion angle wrong while making points about it!!
Your Sky Could Have Been A Good Follow-Up on 2gether
I’ve been sitting on this one for a bit because I don’t know what I want to say about this one. I was really into it in the beginning, but it felt like this show didn’t really know what it wanted to do after resolving the issues with Oh. I personally liked the dad being confronted by his wife and father about the way his homophobia was hurting his son, but I didn’t really enjoy it as a Very Special Episode. I would have also liked to see Teerak’s newfound assertiveness in this period beyond is refusal to cave. I think this show also deeply underutilized its own supporting characters, especially the side couples. Still, I thought Thomas was probably the most beautiful newest BL boy we’ve gotten, and I liked the way he and Kong worked together. I also really enjoyed Teerak being allowed to want sex, ask for it, and take charge of it. That’s so important for a cute character. Letting us know that Teerak has also become protective of the private moments he has with Fah, and is growing into his desire for Fah really is a great way to finish a show.
Final Verdict: 7, Recommended With Reservations. I find it hard to give this a stronger recommendation. I just think the show ends up being overall inessential from how much of it ends up being fluff that doesn’t connect much to each other. The biggest things I liked were Fah and Teerak, especially in the early episodes, and I liked the family dynamics. Still, I feel like this show didn’t know what to do without Tine’s internalized homophobia, and what to do with Fah’s ex that was mentioned. There’s just too much hanging off this to recommend it as a strong drama. Everyone is very pretty, and the performances are earnest. It’s a show that means well, even if it’s a bit indulgent.
The Boy Next World Understands that Phu Has a Dick (5/10)
MAME, as usual, understands the assignment. There’s no way that their first encounter is going to be Cir showing up to stick is dick in Phu’s ass. He’s been obsessed with this boy for years in a way that prioritizes Phu’s wellbeing. It was absolutely correct to payoff that Cir keeps making Phu hard by having Cir take care of him, let us see that Phu enjoyed it. Like @babyangelsky I think it’s important that we let go of the notion that cute characters cannot want and enjoy sex. We got so much from this. We know that Cir likes to give pleasure, and that he’s not going to ask for it from Phu. We also know that Phu cares about Cir, too, because he asked about his time in the bathroom (Cir clearly jerked off and rinsed his mouth, y’all). What’s so excellent about putting a sex scene at this point is it means we’ll see their sex change after Phu learns that Cir has been stalking him for years. MAME is consistently the best storyteller at using the kisses and sex to help inform the arc of the relationship. Most importantly, she gets what the angles are supposed to be.
Ossan’s Love Thailand Is…Fine (5/12)
I’m not really into this one much right now, despite what I think is a pretty solid performance from Krit Shahkrit. I understand the choice to go back to making Kongdech a widower, but I don’t think giving him a daughter who initially opposed the romance added much to this for me. I’m hoping activating Thor’s character next week will add some energy to this for me, because I’m feeling a bit flat with it at this point. I’m glad they’re letting Earth and Mix continue to play adult characters, but it doesn’t feel like they knew what they wanted to do with office romance dynamics here.
Gelboys is a Welcome Return from Boss Kuno (1/7)
Started this today and I am seated. I really love how much it feels like we get to actually be inside of Bangkok. I love that we opened with an ad for the Bangkok rail system as a mechanism for freedom. I love how filming on iphones has enhanced the naturalistic feeling of the production. I also love how we completed the major arc of the het angst of Make It Right in the first like five minutes. Incredible stuff. I’m so excited to see the mess Fou4Mod is going to make of everything, and I’m excited to see Chian dickmatize that boy. Curious to see how much this feels like a bubble show. Shout out to Boss for showing us a naked teen at the start of this show to scare off the pearl clutchers.
RED BLUE is EVERYTHING (6/8)
This is not BL, but it’s got enough BL boys rolling on the floor and sweating on top of each other that I’m saying here loudly that I LOVE IT. Kimura Keito is fantastic in this, and I loved his fight with Okura Takato in episode 6. I almost didn’t recognize my boy from his role as Amane in If It’s With You with the change in his hair. I did not know I needed a wrestling show with BL boys…who am I kidding? We’ve been asking for this every year. This is hitting all the notes I want from a sports shonen show. It’s fantastic.
Please Use the Sex Well in Romance
I think there’s a real place for clean romance in the BL genre. Some of our favorites don’t involve sex being a major component of their romance narrative, but that often requires significantly more drama and better storytelling and plots. What I cannot abide is when I find myself bargaining about how a show that wants to talk about sex every episode seemingly doesn’t want to deal with sex. Romances about sex that don’t use the sex well in their stories are as bad as comedies with terrible jokes, or action flicks with no suspense and satisfying fight sequences.
Other than that, I dropped I'll Turn Back This Time. It’s just too stupid and incoherent for me to put up with it’s nonsense. Seeya next time.

Hey Pookie!! Hru?
I was wondering if you could do a father like Crowley with a reader who grew up pretending to be a boy but is biologically female and prefers being more feminine, Crowley takes her in after Book one and like spoils her and calls her his daughter and his little dove!
Maybe also with the reader having a big crush on Riddle and Crowley doesn’t know wether to be accepting of it or protective
Tysm Pooks!🩷🎀
adopted by crowdad!reader crushing on riddle ✧・゚
.
Hey Muffin! How are you?? This was such a cute idea I tried to write it even though I had so much wild homework xD Hope you like it!! I like writing Crowley and Riddle c:
I am also sorry this took so long my life took a drastic turn 😂 Fun Fact: Riddle was a character I was drawn to when the game was first coming out even though Azul was my OG bias.
.
Summary: [Name] is the adoptive daughter of Dire Crowley after the incidents of Riddle Roseheart's overblot. But why does looking at Riddle make her face flush? Maybe Crowdad can help!
TW/CW: Tagged Crowley/Reader but it's PLATONIC/FAMILIAL
Notes: the reader is Yuu/Ramshackle Prefect, she/her pronouns for the reader, implied AFAB/female reader, pre-relationship/Riddle, a couple of throw-away comments that imply Crewel/Crowley
Guest Stars: Divus Crewel, Deuce Spade (mentioned), Ace Trappola (mentioned), Trey Clover (mentioned)

Dire Crowley (Familial)
Crowley didn't expect to feel so protective over [Name] but some kind of fatherly instincts were awakened during the overblot.
He insists that he is the kindest father to his new daughter.
Crowley becomes a girl-dad.
He may or may not have tried to make her take his last name.
A new side of his personality does not like the idea of any of his male students making moves on his daughter.
He gaslights other students that he has raised [Name] since childhood and [Name] goes along with it, because no one can stop the headmaster once he wants to do something.
Crowley thinks Riddle is an exceptional student.
He is still protective of her around Riddle, though.
"She is much too young to be snogging boys at school."
That line had Housewarden Rosehearts sputtering.
It is much better if his daughter is in love with Riddle than with one of his more troublesome and scary housewardens.
He insists that his daughter is more feminine when he sees that she likes to present that way more than being masculine.
Crowley goes out of his way to say DAUGHTER and SHE with a flourish (to the point that he annoys other students with it).
Crowley is annoying but he means well. Surely.
Crewel becomes her weird uncle somewhere in this process because he thinks Crowley is a little too lax.
Crewel also gives better romantic advice than Crowley does x10
✧・゚: ✧・゚: ✧・゚: ✧・゚: ✧・゚: ✧・゚: ✧・゚: ✧・゚:
Riddle Rosehearts
Riddle is intimidated that [Name] is Crowley's daughter now.
Crowley is a lot to deal with and Riddle shies away from her.
However, [Name] is always sweet to him, and goes out of her way to talk to him, and because of this, he begins to talk to her more.
He thinks she is a nice person but is oblivious to his own feelings.
He doesn't know what to do and up asking Trey for help.
Trey has to be a Mom and a Dad to Riddle with his first real love.
[Name] might end up with Mom-Dad Trey Clover as well xD
Ace and Deuce pray for her, they are worried she will end up collared and try to look out for her while also being (terrible) wingmen in the whole situation. Trey-senpai has a migraine.
"[Name]," Crewel said, studying her expression as she sat in the empty classroom and worked on her homework, "Are you worried about something?"
"No..." she said, fidgeting with the pencil she was using to write her homework answers, "I just... Do you think my dad will be upset if I try to ask out a housewarden?"
Crewel thought about this for a moment before his expression relaxed into something softer than his usual smirk. He didn't see a reason to be so hard on the only female student in the school, especially not after hearing a few facts about her previous life from her self-ascribed father, that strange bird of a headmaster.
"I don't think he would be cross with you," Crewel told her gently, "Though depending on who it is both of us may worry."
She seemed surprised. They would worry about her? It felt like a foreign concept for her in a way. She was still getting used to the staff taking care of her like this, especially Crewel and Crowley.
"Ah?" [Name] managed to say, looked at him.
Who in the world did Crewel think... Who would worry them if she were to confess she had a crush? Surely not Riddle, right? He was a good student and a housewarden at that... Overblot aside.
"I'm not sure I trust Kingscholar. Though he doesn't seem your type."
"I mean... No, it's not Kingscholar-senpai..."
Crewel seemed relieved to hear those words from her.
"Then? Who—"
Crewel was cut off by a flurry of black feathers as her father appeared in between the two of them.
"[NAME]!" Crowley cheered as he rushed toward her to embrace her, even if it was complicated by the desk at which she sat.
"Hey... Dad!" [Name] managed, still growing used to calling him that.
Crowley smiled at her.
"How are you, my darling daughter?" he greeted her, speaking louder than may have been appropriate for the interaction.
Could he help it? He was so excited! And he wanted to know what Crewel and his daughter were speaking about. Their daughter? No. He couldn't think about that right now.
Something for later, maybe?
He returned his focus to his daughter.
"[Name]?" he asked again, pulling her from her thoughts.
"Huh? Oh! Right..." she said composing herself, "I'm doing alright. I was just talking to Professor Crewel about something I was worri—"
She did not get to finish her sentence before Crowley gasped oh-so dramatically. Worried? His daughter was worried? Why? Had he not done enough as a father? Was something wrong? Was she okay?
Too wrapped up in his emotions, neither Crowley nor his daughter (who was giving a more worried look at her father's outburst) noticed the deep sigh that escaped the black-and-white-haired professor's lips as he watched the two. They sure did get into... whatever word was best to describe such antics.
"Are you okay, [Name]?" Crowley asked her, studying her as if trying o see whether or not she was injured, "Did something happen?"
[Name] wasn't planning to tell him like this.
"No... Nothing is wrong. I just... I wanted to ask... I mean..."
She wasn't sure how to word it. This was awkward. She hadn't even been able to tell her crush how she felt yet. And now she had to confide in her overly dramatic father who might try to help her? Deuce and Ace were bad enough wingmen as it was. But, her DAD?
That was too crazy. Nope, nope, not happening.
Crowley waited for her to word her sentence this time.
"I like someone."
There, she said it! She did it! Sort of? [Name] wasn't sure if this answer was a "good enough" answer or was opening room for another secondary discussion about her love life. She had planned to maybe tell Crewel today, not their dad... not yet.
She didn't want him to worry.
"One of the students here?" Crowley asked her.
"Uhm... Yes..." she told him, wanting to be honest.
"A boy?"
He sounded worried now. He was kind of overprotective since that incident at Heartslabyul... Was this really going to be okay?
"I. Yes?" she told him, unsure if there were any female students besides herself at NRC.
She supposed there was always room for someone to be transgender that she didn't know about but to her own limited knowledge, everyone was a guy. And Riddle too was a boy.
"Hmm... Interesting. Very interesting, we had best—"
Someone cut Crowley off this time. A taste of his own medicine for that bird is what Crewel thought of the unforeseen event.
"Sorry to interrupt, I did knock" came a voice that she recognized.
Wait... [Name] knew that voice too well.
RIDDLE???
Her eyes widened at the sight of the red-haired boy in his dorm attire.
"Ah, am I intruding?" Riddle asked her.
She shook her head, face burning from embarrassment. He could have heard her. He could have heard how she felt about him. It had only been a short while since the incident and it wasn't time to be confessing her love. She still needed to get Deuce and Ace to calm down their (good-intentioned) attempts to "help" and ask Trey for his opinion. Trey was, after all, one of the people best at pacifying Riddle in his moods, and they had known each other for a while, right?
She sighed. Things weren't supposed to result in this!
"Rosehearts-kun!" Crowley greeted, switching gears instantly.
"Headmage."
Crowley smiled slightly though it was hard to tell if it was genuine.
"What did you need?" he asked the boy.
"I came to give you the notes from the last meeting."
Riddle had taken notes for the housewardens at their last meeting.
"Ah, thank you!" Crowley replied, taking the hard copy of the notes from Riddle as he handed them over.
Riddle nodded.
"That is all I needed," the Heartlsabyul Housewarden said a moment later, "My apologies for the interruption."
He turned to leave the room, saying a farewell as he did so.
"Good day, Headmage, [Name]-san."
"Goodbye, Rosehearts-kun!"
"Uhm! Bye, Riddle-senpai!"
The alchemy professor, the headmaster, and their the headmaster's daughter existed in a slightly awkward silence for a minute or two before it was Crewel who broke it with an observation.
"He's the one you like, isn't he?" he said.
[Name]'s reddened face grew two shades deeper. She was sputtering, unable to word herself properly. What did she say? How did he know? Was she obvious? Did Riddle know??!
"You like Rosehearts-kun?" Crowley asked, looking at his daughter.
She nodded.
"Despite recent events," Crowley said, "He is a fine choice from my current group of housewardens. Much better than some of the other boys in terms of safety. He will surely be as kind to my lovely daughter as I am."
Crowley smiled at her and she sighed.
At least he (and Crewel) seemed open to the idea. Now she just had to tell Riddle... But how would she do that? And wouldn't Deuce and Ace just complicate things? This would be an ordeal, wouldn't it?
.
.
.
Imagine the rest yourself~

Now don't throw tomatoes at me but I'm actually really excited to finally see malleus again— I've always loved malleus since we met him in the story, but I'm also sooo curious about what's gonna happen next,, I'm wondering the obvious thing, about whether or not we might get a parralel scenario like what happened with the KoD and silver will have to "slay" malleus or at least be the one to land a killing blow, but I also saw a really interesting post focusing on how magic is a manifestation of dreams and deep desires and imagination,,,, in that case, I may (VERY delusionally) hope that Yuu finally gets to be a major part of the story for once??? Even reading the novels, there HAS to be something bigger for yuu— while the idea of crowley simply being an incompetent airhead is fun and more comfortable, haven't you thought that meybe he pulled them into this world deliberately??
All to say, what if at some point, Yuu somehow manifests magic in a very dire moment ?? You know lol?? Agh idk. I just want yuu to finally make impactful choices but that IS too much to ask, as far as we can see for now,,, (but hey, that part leading up to ace getting is UM, and the convo between him and yuu,,, it *does* give one a sliver of hope, doesn't it? :') )
Don't worry, no tomato throwing here! 😅 I may not care for certain characters, but I’m not going to shame anyone that does. You’re free to think however you want about Malleus!
dbjsvsJcwhj My personal feelings about him aside, I am actually glad he’s finally relevant to the main story again. He’s missed out on so much of his own book OTL In the time he’s been gone, the fandom has been left to speculate about both his and Lilia’s potential death flags. I really doubt Twst will have the balls to kill off one of them, but it would be cool to at least see Silver delivering the final blow to knock some sense into (not necessarily kill) OB Malleus.
Yes, it’s true that Silver states in the recent update that magic was originally considered “a miracle borne of strong desires from the heart.” But 💦 I don’t think that means Yuu would randomly manifest magic in the final fight?? It feels more like a “let’s save the day with the power of friendship” to me, but I could of course be wrong.
I understand being frustrated that Yuu’s participation in the main story seems to fluctuate a lot, with most of their activity being books 3, 4, and segments of 1, 6, and 7. That’s not much, especially considering how long books 6 and 7 are. Sometimes (even in events) it feels like Yuu is barely there, as most dialogue options don’t involve different reactions from the characters. Even Yuu's quest to find a way home is barely addressed or taken seriously until early in book 7. Yuu hasn't gotten "real" development unless you count them realizing their Disney dreams are prophetic in book 5, taking the initiative to save Grim in book 6, and that dialogue option about them being worried they're not contributing + the related convo with Ace in book 7. All very short moments in the grand scheme of things. And honestly, I think that makes sense for the kind of character Yuu is. A blank slate, a self-insert, an outsider that's easy to exposit information to, someone with which to view the story, characters, and world through. Yuu is primarily there to be the POV character, the lenses, the camera that we see Twst through. They're not really meant to be a traditional "main character". It's possible that Twst gives them a slightly bigger role at the very end (especially with what went down in the dream in book 7), but I doubt it will be a huge triumphant moment where they and they alone save the day or deal the final blow in a crazy act of self-sacrifice. Twst has always been a story that puts the NRC boys first, while Yuu is the observer.
I've noticed that the complaint of Yuu not doing a lot in the story comes mainly from English speaking fans?? And I guess that makes sense, given how western culture tends to emphasize independence and standing out. They want Yuu to reflect that. They want to be the ones to make a difference. I don't even remember ever seeing these same comments from the Japanese speaking fans; it's definitely a less common sentiment for them. The Japanese fans seem pretty content with Yuu being an observer and taking on more of a minor or supporting role. Again, this fits in with what I understand of many eastern cultures. They're demurer, not wanting to stand out too much from the crowd and instead prioritizing group harmony. Very interesting cultural difference to note!
It's a common theory (with many variants) that Crowley intentionally summoned Yuu to Twisted Wonderland for his own nefarious motives. People found him pretty sus right away due to how he seems to not put in any real time or effort into investigating a way to send Yuu home. Plus, there's that ominous opening monologue of his to consider. However, I don't think he summoned Yuu because of their (potential) great magical capabilities. The Mirror of Darkness tells us that it doesn't sense a shred of magic in Yuu, and Leona smells zero magic on them (though that could be because it hasn't technically manifested yet, as some fans claim).
The idea is that Yuu is supposed to be plain. They are supposed to be magicless. Why? To humble the NRC students and to show them that asserting yourself violently or with great magical power ISN'T the way to go. To show them value in strategizing (which Yuu does in the prologue by helping Grim aim at the ghosts), of camaraderie. What does it say about the story's themes if Yuu, the person who is supposed to be showing them the worth of mundane things, is suddenly... "secretly ultra-strong, actually/“just like you guys” (even if it's only a temporary hope-fueled magic)? It might contradict what has already been set up. It also breaks the self-insert appeal of Yuu, since developing magic would also mean Yuu would later have to further develop things like proficiency in magic, best/worst subjects, and an unique magic/signature spell... meaning Yuu HAS to become better "defined", thus losing their blank slate nature. This would surely upset some fans who deeply project onto Yuu, have a Yuusona, etc.
Yuu can still make an impact on the characters and the world--and they have, judging by how much closer the boys are with each other--without having to be The Most Special One or like everyone else. I think it undermines what Yuu has already managed to achieve to say that they haven't made an impactful choice at ANY point in the main story when I believe they definitely have. Yuu made the choice to sign the contract with Azul. Yuu made the choice to approach Malleus. Yuu made the choice to go against Crowley's orders and go retrieve Grim from S.T.Y.X. Yuu made the choice to get Leona’s help with the contracts. Yuu made the choice to stand with Adeuce against Riddle in book 1. Yuu made the choice to let the VDC/SDC tribe train at Ramshackle. Yuu has done a lot, and all without needing to seize the spotlight or to do anything big and flashy. I don't think Yuu needs to be big and flashy. There is pride to be had in simplicity and being humble too. There is pride in representing the 90% of humans in Twisted Wonderland that are ordinary and without magic.
(An aside: so if Yuu wasn’t able to manifest magic in many other extreme instances, does that mean their desire to save Grim in book 6 wasn’t “enough”? That their desire to save Ramshackle, their one and only home in this world, wasn’t “enough”? It implies that Yuu didn’t wish hard enough for these other things they clearly care about and want.)
I think a good way to give Yuu a decent role while staying true to their design as a blank slate would be for Twst to really lean into the whole "beast tamer" aspect that was introduced all the way back in the prologue. This would work well with their deep connection to Grim as well. Assuming that Grim ends up being the final OB... We could easily have the NRC students and staff on the ropes, Malleus at his wit's end after exhausting himself with his own OB, a rampaging Grim about to end it all. And then... one lone figure shakily rises from the rubble and confronts Grim. One human. Magicless, defenseless. A human lost in an unfamiliar world, a human who believes they're useless and don't contribute much. A human who is always in need of being protected by others. But not anymore. This time, it's Yuu's turn to protect what they love--their friends, this world they've come to love, Grim. Ace and Deuce yelling at Yuu to not be stupid, to get back--but Yuu just advances, calling out to Grim and begging him to stop. And maybe it's Yuu's wish that rallies everyone and/or gets OB Grim to hesitate. That's when they can strike. Is that corny? Yeah. Does it sound like the ending to a Disney film? Sure. But it still grants Yuu, a magicless human that is supposed to be there to teach everyone about friendship, cooperation, and humility, their big moment to shine. The best of both worlds, I'd say.

Realizing I also want to keep track of the songs Apollo mentions, so I'm gonna go back real quick and mention "You Send Me" by Sam Cooke, released in 1957, which he mentioned in chapter 2, and "Rise to the Sun" by Alabama Shakes, released in 2012, which he mentions in the opening of chapter 10. Listened to them both, and honestly, they're both great songs! And Rise to the Sun actually fits Apollo really well, I was genuinely surprised.
Going back also makes me realize that Apollo was going to sing an honest to god love song to stop Cade and Mikey. That image will stay with me for years, I think.
Rhea is described as dressing like a "Libyan queen of old" which is interesting, bc I couldn't find any reference to Rhea being an important figure during the period where Ancient Greece had footholds in the region. What's interesting though, is that Apollo definitely was. One of the two cities Greeks established in Libya was Cyrene, and some myths even call the native Libyans the founders of both Delos and Delphi. So like, I have no idea where Rick got the idea of Rhea being connected to Libya, but it helped me learn new things, so that's cool!
Another anecdote: When Apollo drives the sun chariot as a bus, Hermes always sits in the back, because that's where troublemakers sit.
The way Apollo describes his physical state, I'm convinced he's just constantly in excruciating pain. Like, all he does is get off the cot in the Apollo cabin, and he says that his "eyes felt as if they were being microwaved in their sockets." Bestie, what? Are you dying, wtf lmao?
Anecdote: Apollo once attempted target practice in Zeus' throne room. That feels like it might have been a more pointed thing.
Apollo sees Nero in his dreams for the first time in chapter 10, but he doesn't recognize him yet. He spends the rest of the chapter simply referring to him as "The man in the purple suit", "The ugly mauve-suited man", and simply "the ugly man" King behavior, honestly.
I know I made a post about it a while ago, but I still can't get over Apollo's outrageous claim of 33 mortal girlfriends and 11 mortal boyfriends. He has past that in Ancient Greek lovers alone lmao.
Rick does a really good job of writing these long flowing internal monologues for Apollo, only to cut them off with a short sentence that both allows for an easy transition out of Apollo's head and back to the action of the scene, but also simulates Apollo getting distracted in his own ramblings and then abruptly coming back to reality. Like, he goes on for three paragraphs about Nico and will, and then his past loves, and then his embarrassment over sharing his love for Hyacinthus and Daphne, only to end it all off with the short line "I am so confused." and then we're right back into the scene. It's a really great comedic bit, and it does wonders for Lester's characterization. (Also my god does Lester read so much like he has ADHD. Almost more than Percy to me, but then I think Lester's flavor of ADHD is much more similar to my own than Percy's is)
Anecdote: Apollo cosplayed Rocky at midnight showings of Rocky Horror Picture Show. Queen.
Apollo mentions that he filmed the orientation film on "a tight budget in the 1950's" which like, why? Maybe it's mentioned in the supplemental books somewhere, but why would a god ever be put on a budget for something lmao?
"Had I been a god, I would have turned her into a blue-belly lizard and released her into the wilderness never to be seen again. The thought soothed me." One, Apollo she is twelve dear god. Two, I love this as a character moment for Apollo (Stay with me here). Apollo comes from a culture that is so focused on strength and power and violence. The moment he loses control of a situation, he grasps for any way to get power back into his hands. And in these moments, his way of giving himself power is by reassuring himself that he could totally murder everyone here if he wanted to. Killing people is a way to assert control, it's a way that Zeus and the other gods assert control all the time. And there's an implication with Apollo using these lines too. By asserting that he can kill people, it's also an assertion that the people he is threatening cannot kill him. Idk it's just a very interesting way of coping.
Real quick fun fact! Lester describes the Oracle of Delphi in Greece as a "cavern filled with volcanic fumes" but that's not actually 100% correct. The oracle of Delphi in Ancient Greece was actually in the Temple of Apollo, with descriptions from ancient scholars putting her either in the cella or in an adyton that was below the main temple. There was a opening in the ground in this chamber, but it certainly wasn't a cave. Furthermore, the whole idea of Apollo fighting Python in a cave? From what I can tell, this is also not based in myth! Most descriptions of the fight between Apollo and Python that I can find in myth describe Python being coiled around the mountains of the Parnassus range, which is a terrifying image honestly. Just find it interesting that none of the cave stuff is actually a part of the Delphic Oracle. I mean, from what I can tell, the nearest mythologically important cave is the Corycian cave, which has nothing to do with the oracle and is also like a 45 minute drive away from Delphi.
I usually try to read three chapters before rb'ing, but I had so many notes on these two that I'm gonna cut it off here. Also, this has kind of just become pointing out shit I find interesting instead of focusing specifically on Lester-isms, but I'm def still gonna point those out, so the tag will stay. I just have so much to say about my little blorbo, sorry guys.
I think I'm gonna make a reblog chian of all the little phrases and Apollo uses throughout ToA, now that I'm rereading it. Bc like, he has such a unique way of speaking, and I really wanna dig into it, you know? Ok let's start.
He says "heavens help me" instead of "heaven help me" using the plural the same way demigods do with "oh my gods". I'm guessing this is an acknowledgment of other pantheons? Or I'm looking too far into it, I've just never heard this phrase with a plural "heavens" before.
He calls Cade and Mikey "Ruffians" . And he makes fun of the arrow for being Shakespearean.
He also refers to people as "Mortals" a lot here, which I remembered him doing, but now I want to keep track and see if he keeps that up throughout all the books, or if it peters out near the end.
"I thought how amusing it would be if I could make the snake tattoos around his neck come alive and strangle him to death" I honestly love how violent Apollo's thoughts can be sometimes. Like, you can tell he's someone who has done shit like this before.
I also want to keep track of all the little anecdotes Apollo brings up, so we'll start with the guitar contest against Chuck Berry in 1957, which apparently ended with him getting repeatedly stomped on.
"But something told me this was not she" II love how it's the little things that really get across how old Apollo is. Rick could've easily just said "It wasn't her" or something, but instead he had Apollo phrase this in a way that is far more formal, and more reminiscent of the grammatical patterns of old english. Idk it's just really cool.
(Side note that's not connected to Apollo: Meg's glasses are black? I feel like I've been living a lie, I've been coloring them red for years lol)
God his metaphors are just so striking. Like, I can imagine the phrase "Whatever was left of my pride turned into ice water and trickled into my socks" but I don't want to, because that's such a visceral feeling. I like that Apollo inadvertently proving how poetic he is by making the reader as uncomfortable as possible.
I think I'm gonna start crying out "Horrors!" when I'm upset to. I think I deserve that level of drama.
ahh the classic "My blessings upon you!" Again, I love how every little line characterizes him. Either it's overly formal, like before, or subtly arrogant, like here, or both. It's so fun.
I need to write him saying "Sacred Sibyl!" more. Because that is such a fun little term. Rolls right off the tongue, honestly.
I think I'm gonna leave it there for now, but trust that I will definitely be adding more to this later. Bc Lester-speak is so fun to really look into.

How to Write Women, a quick guide by me
Hello! I was recently inspired to write a series of educational posts so I thought maybe it would be useful for someone.
I want to preface this that there is no criticism intended. I understand that female characters in general have been neglected in media, and I don't blame fandom for not understanding how to write a woman if there hasn't been a good reference in their lives.
My objective is that you, the reader, finish this post with a basic structure and few questions to ask yourself when writing a female character; and with the terms and curiosity to research more if you'd like to expand.
I'm no professional writer, but I've been writing for more than 20 years at this point, and I specialize in writing female protagonists and writing organic romantic storylines.
Here we go.
I want to write a woman, where do I start?
Writing women, at the end of the day, is no different than writing a man. Really, that's the trick.
Disappointed I'm not giving some kind of hot takes about this?
Good.
Because it should be that simple, but to get to that point we should unravel some baseline thought process that can and will get in the way even if you try to write a good female character.
A few questions to ask yourself are:
Why am I writing this character?
Does she have agency in her own story?
Does she have her own goals and aspirations?
Let's break them down:
Why am I writing this character?
What do I like about her? Is she annoying? Is she a hero? A villain? An antagonist? What thing do I like about her canon characteristics (for fanfic writers)? What would I change?
As mentioned at the beginning, female characters usually are not very well written. They are usually fridged or used only as a reminder that MC (usually a man) has emotions and vulnerabilities.
Take a moment to think about it. Think about the feelings her character gives you, and what are the things you do know about her. Think about wasted potential, or unanswered questions about her actions and plot lines that left you wanting more.
If you find her annoying, wonder why — usually, a female character being "annoying" or "not interesting" is tied to her not being developed enough, and pushed into a one-dimensional role. Pay attention at how many speaking lines she has, that usually gives you a clue of how much her character is developed.
Once you have decided who you want to write, this is where it gets interesting.
What kind of story do you want to tell? What role does she play in it?
When making the structure of the story and developing the plot, wonder about how exactly the female character(s) add to the table. Again, female characters can fulfill any role in a story, but watch out!
Bitchy mean girl lesbian
Motherly mommy mom/sister/friend that takes care of everyone
The "healer" of the team
These 3 roles have been used as boxes to fit female characters for ages. Be careful if you think you are pushing her into one of these.
But how can you avoid the tropes?
Does she have agency in her own story?
Or: if you remove her from the story, nothing changes?
Go into your mind palace, and remove the interactions and scenes the female character is in. Does the story still work? Could her lines be easily delivered by someone else?
If the answer is yes, then she doesn't have any agency.
It doesn't matter if she is a main character or a supporting character — she should have a say on the events or some kind of influence in the development of the plot.
Maybe she has a skill that is needed multiple times during the story, or maybe she has past experiences that are a mystery and unraveling her secrets reveals a plot twist, or maybe turns out she was the traitor all along. Make her MATTER.
Does she have her own goals and aspirations?
Or: Is she existing for someone else's sake?
This one is useful for the "mommy" character or the "healer" character.
Go into your mind palace again and think if you remove the female character's loved ones from the equation, does she have something to do?
If the answer is no, then she doesn't exist for herself.
She could still love and take care of others, but she has to exist for something else than that. Make her dream and yearn, and make mistakes, and sacrifice thing for selfish reasons.
Romance is usually a goal given for female characters (and that's a whole other topic I hope to write another post about), and it's a good one! Just be careful with falling for the trap of swapping the people (usually men) she exists for.
Give her hidden agendas, convoluted selfish secret reasons, make her want to destroy the world! Make her want to pursue the truth, chase someone for revenge, be a thrill seeker. Make her HUMAN.
In Conclusion
A quick trick I use when I write female characters is: If I swap her gender, nothing changes?
Of course there's nuance, but that keeps me grounded when even the questions I went over in this post are not enough for me.
Again, writing female characters should not be that different from writing men. If it feels different, ask yourself why and try to understand where the thought comes from.
NOTE: If the point of the story is to discuss the problem of codependency, or portray a toxic relationship, by all means skip checking about agency or her having goals. Rules are there to break them, but first you have to understand them.
I hope this helps someone and I will add and edit this post as needed, maybe to add useful links.
Happy writing!

dominant!zayne x submissive!reader
tw for light BDSM, bondage/shibari, sex toys (vibrator), fingering, and some minor angst. mc calls zayne sir like twice. if i've missed something else that needs a tag, just ask! nondescript female reader with a bit of a backstory, just to make her feel more connected to the world.
Additional Disclaimer: Takes place after the events of the main story (which I am not fully caught up on). Reader is NOT the game MC in this fic. In my mind's eye MC decided to romance one of the other characters and Zayne does what he can to move on.
and yes, zayne's harness in the fic is 100% inspired by his harnes in the new trailer
In 2034 the world you as you know it ends. It happens suddenly one mundane spring afternoon. A great, gaping maw opens in the cloudless blue sky above Linkon City, releasing a tidal wave of ferocious monsters unto the earth. Locals come to call the event the Chronorift Catastrophe. The world later discovers that the great, gaping hole in the sky was the appearance of the first ever Deepspace Tunnel which attracted alien beings now colloquially referred to as Wanderers.
Everyone in Linkon City remembers where they were that day. They remember what they were wearing and who they were with. A flashbulb memory, the psychologists call it. A memory that endures. A memory that persists.
Like most survivors, it isn’t just the red rain falling from the sky or the horrible sound of the earth splitting around you that you remember: it’s the actions you took to survive. The people you ran past. The neighbors you didn’t save. The hand you didn’t extend to the woman who tripped over her own two feet running from the creature. The debris you didn’t help remove from the body of the elderly man too weak to push the plank away without aid.
For three weeks you see a therapist. You’re an adult now, still plagued by nightmares of the event. You tell the woman you’re meeting with that you are suffering from memories. She tells you that your body needs to learn that the danger has passed. The problem with that logic? The danger hasn’t. Your body can’t stop secreting stress hormones when you daily lunch breaks are constantly interrupted by Metaflux monsters.
Your past becomes a prison. An inescapable cage. Your therapists asks how you would feel if someone flung open the doors for you. You tell her it would depend on who opened the door and what’s happening outside.
The session before you ghost your shrink, she asks you to practice breathing exercises. She prattles on and on about the importance of nervous system regulation in trauma recovery. Apparently exhaling is supposed to activate the “rest and digest” response—the antidote to the “fight and flight” response that your body is stuck in.
And that’s all well and good but even twenty years later the Wanders keep manifesting in Linkon City in numbers that the Hunters can’t keep up with. You’d move, maybe, if you had the means, though you did read somewhere once that a scared animal will continue to seek out their home, even if their home is no longer safe.
So you find an alternative way to cope with the stress of the new world.
There’s budding red light district about an hour outside the city. You go sometimes on weekends to decompress. Your favorite haunt is a small BDSM club run by a couple of old widows who lost their husbands to the war. They verify ages at the door and ensure all the drinks at the place stay virgin.
You’re not heavy into the scene or anything—you actually have quite a few hard limits—it’s just…nothing else you’ve tried has helped you to shut off your brain. To shift your focus from the past to the present. To shut out all thoughts of Hunters and Protocores and Wanders.
The doms you’ve had up until this point were perfectly adequate; they listened diligently to what you were open to and respected all of your boundaries. You aren’t sure why you’ve never asked for a more consistent routine with any of them. Something, somehow, was always missing from the encounters.
There are a lot of new faces at the club tonight. Or, rather, there are a lot of faces new to you. The club has many regulars, but you don’t make the hike often enough to have them all committed to memory. Still, you’re certain you’ve never seen the tall, stoic man in a leather harness swarmed by a gaggle of women before. Despite the fact that he clearly has his pick of the litter, your gaze keeps wandering to his solid form. The way his abs flex when he breathes. The way his lips quirk when he talks.
He's halfway across the room but must somehow still feel the heat of your wandering gaze because after a few stolen looks he locks eyes with you. Your whole body flushes as he acknowledges you with a raise of his drink. The tips of your ears burn as he takes a healthy swig of the beverage without breaking the eye contact. It’s you who looks away first.
When you chance a glance back over, he’s excusing himself from the women who flocked to him like a tourist attraction to pick his way towards you. Your heart flutters anxiously as he closes in, and you have to remind yourself not to take a step back once he’s close enough to touch.
“First time?” he asks, voice smooth like ice.
“Ouch,” you reply, gripping your own water glass to ground yourself. “It’s not. Do I really look that unaware.”
His expression doesn’t change but his eyes move to assess you, “What are you drinking?”
Though his tone is relaxed you can’t help but feel as if the question has a correct answer.
“Just water.”
“Hmm,” he hums. “Something with electrolytes would be more efficient. If you’re looking for a session tonight, that is.”
“I don’t like the taste,” you tell him, trying to keep the glass in your hand from shaking as desire swells within you.
He frowns, “Without electrolytes, your body will dehydrate, no matter how much water you consume.”
“You a doctor?” you ask.
He hums in what sounds like confirmation before wrapping his hand around yours. “I take the health of the people I play with seriously. This is about much more than sex to me. I like when my partners eat three square meals a day and have an effective exercise regimen implemented.”
You don’t resist when he slips your water from your grasp. You also don’t hesitate to open your mouth when he raises his own perspiring glass to your lips. His fingers don’t even graze you as you swallow down the fruity liquid, yet you can feel your insides come alight as you obey. As your pussy begins to leak it becomes increasing clear to you that you would do just about anything to have this man dominate you tonight.
“Good,” he says once you’ve downed the drink. “Now, do you happen to have a list of what you enjoy and your hard limits on you?”
With shaky hands, you reach wordlessly into your bag to retrieve what the man has asked for. He spends a few moments skimming the contents before simply stating, “I believe we are compatible.”
You follow him to a private room near the back of the club and watch as he begins to gather some equipment for the session. Without turning to look at you he says, “I noticed that you have some experience with light bondage. I prefer to use traditional single ply shibari rope or silk as restraints. These two methods prevent chafing and other potential complications like skin lesions or rashes. Do you have a preference for today’s session?”
“No preference, uh…” you trail off, wondering what the man would like you to refer to him as.
Sensing what’s on your mind, he offers, “I have no preferred titles, but you may assign me one if you like.”
“No preference, Sir,” you say, watching the man for his reaction. He seems unfazed by the moniker and continues to ready himself.
“Do you have any allergies or medical conditions I should be aware of?” he asks.
A lie forms on the tip of your tongue but the truth slips out anyway, “My heart’s a bit weak. Nothing serious. It didn’t develop properly when I was younger. I haven’t had any issues with it before.”
The revelation seems to give the man pause. He turns to you and motions for you to hold out your wrist for him, so you do. His warm fingers slip under your sleeve and find purchase on your pulse point. After a few excoriatingly silent minutes, you attempt to put his mind at ease.
“I’m, uh, a bit more excited than usual at the moment. My resting heart rate is probably higher than normal.”
The pads of his fingers don’t leave your wrist when he asks, “What’s your typical resting heart rate?”
You want to ask what that fucking matters, but sensing that won’t get you any closure to what you want you decide to humor the man. It’s been a while since you’ve been to a doctor. Back when they used to have you track it, the rate could vary depending on what task you were completing. It was higher, usually, when doing something strenuous. When you rested it would drop again.
“Usually around 90 beats per minute.”
His eyes flick to your face as he drops your wrist. “You should see a specialist.”
You roll your eyes impatiently, “Are we fucking or not?”
In response to your outburst, his hands find the hem of your shirt. “Who said I had any intentions of fucking you?” he asks, voice frustratingly emotionless. Your arms raise instinctually as he toys with the fabric, and the takes the opportunity to relieve you of the garment. “As I said before, this is about much more than sex to me.”
He circles behind you and draws you in close to him. It occurs to you suddenly just how much larger than you the man is. He rests his chin on your head as his fingers slowly trace down your sides, leaving a field of goosebumps in their wake. His hands make their way to the button on your pants.
“You aren’t just here for sex. Are you?” he asks, voice low. You feel the words vibrate his chest as he speaks them.
“No,” you whisper, eyes suddenly blurring.
“Good,” he says, undoing your buttons. “Let’s use the traffic light system today. It’s a simply way for me to check in on you and see how you’re doing.”
He lets the words sit in the air for a bit, fingers fiddling with your zipper. The only sound in the room is your own uneven breathing that you fight for control over.
The man pinches the tab of your zipper and shifts so his cheek is pressed against your forehead. “Color,” he asks, breath hot on the shell of your ear.
“Green,” you practically moan.
He slides off your pants with ease once he’s taken care of the zipper. He even helps you to keep your balance as you step out of them, one foot at a time.
“Color?” he asks again, as his fingers settle on the clasp of your bra.
“Green,” you reply, voice steadier now.
He undoes the hook with one hand.
You expect him to remove your panties next, but his fingers instead find the meat of your breasts. One of his arms wraps around you, securing you tightly against him, as you nearly keel over in a mixture of surprise and pleasure.
“Sensitive here,” he observes, cupping one of your breasts in his free hand. He uses a foot to nudge your legs further apart and slip a leg between them. The man isn't lying about getting off on this; his cock is hard as a rock against your ass.
“Fuck,” you whine as his bends you over ever so slightly. Just enough to rub your clothed pussy against his pant leg.
“Wet already,” he informs you, as if you don’t already know. As if you can’t feel the way the cotton material sticks to your lip. “All I did was undress you. That eager to begin?”
“Please,” you groan, desperate for him to take you apart with his slender fingers. “Please, Sir, I want you so fucking bad.”
“On the bed,” he instructs, releasing you, careful not to harm you as his leather harness peels away from your skin.
The rope he ends up choosing for the session is the jute rope. He takes his time winding the instrument around your wrists and pulling them above your head. His movements are practiced and skilled. His hands steady like a surgeon’s. You don’t even realize the effect watching him restrain you is having on you until a firm hand finds its way to your pelvis to stop your squirming.
Once you’ve settled, he retrieves two strands of additional rope.
“Are you familiar with the Spiral Futomomo tie?” he asks. “I understand that you’re still a beginner and tie will force you into a fixed position for an undetermined length of time. I trust you will use your safe word if needed?”
“You can trust me,” you assure him. “I know my limits.”
He must believe your words are sincere because he sets to work binding your ankle to your thigh, checking in periodically to ensure the wrappings aren’t too tight. The man is clearly in no rush and seems to delight in taking breaks between knots to steady your shaking form. You also notice the way his eyes shift to the growing wet spot beneath you as he progresses.
“What do you like about bondage?” he asks as he begins to work on your other leg.
“I don’t know,” you say, attempting to shrug before remembering your pose prevents you from such movement. “I’m never in control of my life anyway. May as well surrender myself to someone I know will take care of me.”
He doesn’t look at you, but you can see the way his eyes lighten. Your response must please him somehow. You decide to push the issue, “You like being in control?”
“I like caretaking,” is his response. “I like giving people what they need.”
“What if I need your fingers inside me?” you dare, feeling bold.
A small smile, but a smile all the same. “Then, you’ll have to patiently wait until I’m finished with the task at hand.”
He double checks all of his bindings once he’s finished securing you, mumbling under his breath about optimal blood flow. It’s cute, the way he seems so set on ensuring this is the best possible experience for you. You can’t remember the last dom you had who was this doting.
When he finally situates himself between your legs, it’s with gloved hands and a vibrator. You jump as the cool leather of the hand covering finds your inner thigh.
“Keep these spread for me,” he says, referring to your legs. Then he’s rubbing the vibrator, still off, up and down your panties with just enough strength for you to truly register the tool.
“You’re soaked,” he observes in that neutral tone of his, though his eyes glistening with awe. You wonder if he even realizes the vibrator isn’t on. His eyes find yours and for the first time all evening he smiles warmly at you. “Don’t worry. I’m going to take excellent care of you.”
Then he turns the vibrator on its lowest setting and your pussy truly begins to drool. He circles the vibrating toy around your clit strategically, watching your response to his ministrations intently. Fire pools in your belly as he slides the vibrator down your cunt and presses the tip of it gently against your opening. The panties you’re still wearing dull some of the vibration, but you can still feel the ungodly amount of slick that slips out of you at the slight penetration.
You do your best to stay still for him as he ups the setting, but your body starts to twitch in pleasure, back beginning to arch, toes threatening to curl. Your breath quickens as well as all the blood in your body seems to pump directly to your swelling clit. The same clit the man is now more firmly rubbing the vibrator against.
“Fuck,” you cry, starting to lose your composure. Your hips buck away from the relentless thrumming of the vibrator. Or maybe towards it. You’re not actually sure. It’s both too much and not enough at the same time. You need more. You need less. You need…
His unoccupied hand presses your hips back against the bed. “Easy,” he coaxes. “Don’t pull against the ropes.”
When you’re unable to obey, too overwhelmed with desire, he switches the vibrator off. The lack of sensation is so abrupt the tears you’ve been holding back finally spill, slipping down your heated cheeks. An animalistic whine you didn’t even know you were capable of escapes you.
“We’re not done,” he assures you, swiping at your tears with his thumbs. You wish suddenly he wasn’t wearing the leather gloves. You yearn to feel him skin to skin. The fabric is warm at least from the heat of his fingers. “You’re just getting a little fussy. I want to make sure everything is alright before we continue.”
He settles back between your spread legs and hooks his pointer finger in the bottom of your panties, pulling it aside to expose your dripping core and swollen lips. “Impressive,” he says, “how simple it was to elicit this response from you.”
He collects some of your spend on his index finger before starting to slide it inside you. It’s met with no resistance. He sinks easily in, straight to the knuckle. When he slips out it’s only to coat a second finger in your slick so he can sink that one in alongside the other. The two digits begin working you in tandem with each other, pumping deliciously against your walls. It doesn’t take him long to find what he’s looking for.
“Here,” he states, pressing and holding the tips of his fingers against the sensitive area. You involuntarily clench around them, body begging him to move them once more, but the man—to the devastation of your body—is nothing but the living embodiment of self-control.
You audibly cry out when he pulls his fingers from you. He locks eyes with you as he coyly promises, “Soon. I’d never leave a woman unsatisfied, and any man who would isn’t fit to be a dom.”
He picks the vibrator again and this time, when he touches it to your clit, it’s under your ruined panties. The thrumming sends a bolt of electricity skittering up your arched spine. Fuck, you’re so unbelievably wet. You feel your pussy fluttering around nothing and hiccup out a sob. You’re so empty. You’re so, so empty.
“Need,” you hiccup.
“What?” he asks patiently. “Tell me what you need.”
“Your fingers. I need your fingers. Please.”
He slips the same two from before back inside you.
“So well mannered," he praises. Then he asks, "Here?” as he presses the appendages against that spot once again.
“Yeah,” you agree, though you’re so far gone you would agree to anything he asked of you in this moment. “Yeah. Yeah. There. Right there. Fuck!”
He uses his fingers and the vibrator to bring you right to the brink of an orgasm. It’s so good. He’s so good. He’s touching you everywhere you need to be touched. Pushing all the buttons that need to be pushed. Your time in these rooms has never felt anything like this before, and you doubt it will ever feel anything like this ever again.
“Can I-”
“I don’t remember telling you that you needed my permission.”
Your orgasm ripples through you, strong and steady like a cresting wave. Once he’s certain he’s wrung the last of it out of you, the man withdraws his fingers and switches off the vibrator.
“I’m going to remove my gloves and start undoing your bindings,” he says.
“Yeah, okay,” you reply.
It takes a few minutes for him to completely untie you. Once he has, he asks permission to massage your legs and arms to reencouraged blood flow which you readily agree to. He produces a bottle of lotion that smells like eucalyptus from his bag and starts working the muscles of your arm.
“I wish they had showers here,” he offhandedly comments. “I don’t like sending people home without a proper washing.”
“A bath does sound nice,” you agree, sagging into his embrace.
“Promise me you’ll take one when you get home. I don’t want you getting into your bed dirty.”
“I would never make a promise I couldn’t keep, Sir.”
A comfortable silence falls over the room as he continues to provide you with aftercare.
“Zayne,” he eventually says, eyes fixed on the foot he’s been massaging for the past few minutes.
“What?”
“My name. You could use it if you’d like. Sir is fine too, if you’d truly prefer it, but I find names are much more intimate.”
“Oh,” is all you muster. Then you tell him yours.
“Could we move to the sofa while we continue to wind down?” he asks after testing the sound of your name in his mouth. “I like the casual skin to skin contact after a session. I’ll remove my harness but leave my slacks.”
“Fine with me.”
It takes Zayne a moment to remove his harness. Perhaps it’s his first time wearing this particular set of gear. You watch him wrestle with the final clasp through drooping eyelids. His expression softens when he catches you lazily staring at him.
“Admiring the view?” he teases.
“Never had a better one,” you reply easily.
He positions himself behind you when he joins you on the sofa. The two of you lay there comfortable for some time, breath seeming to synchronize in the quiet of the room. The world outside this secluded space slowly begins to creep back into your mind. Back to Metafluxes and Protocores. Back to Wanders and Hunters.
And then you start to cry.
If you weren’t so close to Zayne, you could probably hide it from him, but he notices the change in your mood instantly. He tugs gently at your arm, a wordless plea for you to turn to face him. You allow him to reposition you, curling yourself into his large body, tucking your face into his neck.
He pets at your hair soothingly while you let the worst of it out. When an appropriate amount of time has passed, he asks, “What brought that on?”
“It’s, uh, well it’ll probably ruin the moment if I told you.”
“I’d still like to know if it’s all the same to you. Debriefing is part of the scene after all.”
At first, you’re not sure you want to tell him what triggered the outburst, but considering the dynamic, you figure you owe it to him.
“I was thinking about my ex,” you admit.
Zayne stiffens, his caressing hand on your head stills. “They hurt you?”
“They loved me.”
Zayne tangibly relaxes at your response, and he resumes petting your hair.
“What happened to them?” he asks, tone carefully neutral.
“They left me.”
The silence that follows your confession is welcome. You think you even dose off. When your eyes open again, Zayne is full dressed, sleeves of his shirt rolled up to his elbows as he sanitizes the sex toy you soiled.
Sensing you stir he says, “You’re awake.”
“I am.”
Zayne dries the toy and sets it aside, turning to face you.
“I like to follow up with the people I dom for. You don’t have to give me your number if you’re not comfortable. An email will suffice.”
“You can have my number,” you say, gesturing for him to hand you his phone. “I’d actually appreciate a check in tomorrow.”
“Of course.”
He walks you to the train station once he’s certain the number you’ve given him isn’t a fake.
“Remember to get a full eight hours of sleep tonight,” he tells you. “And please eat a protein-based meal for breakfast. Something with eggs and meat, maybe. A shake if absolutely necessary.”
“Yes, Doctor Zayne,” you joke, offering him a crisp salute as you step onto the train platform. Maybe you're imagining things, but you swear he flinches at your response.
A firm hand on your wrist stops you from fully entering the car. You turn to face him one final time.
“About that,” he says, expression unreadable. “I was serious about you seeing a specialist for your heart.”

In defense of MelJay
I just need to say this…SHUT UP! Yall are all tap dancing on my last nerve.I’m am at my wits end with this fandom. Every time I think we take one step forward some dufus pushes us two steps back.
Okay. I’m arguing with a JayVik shipper on TikTok who says MelJay is boring and toxic. I am about to explode this shit can’t still be the main conversation about this ship.
So first off MelJay is “boring”. This isn’t unique to JayVik nor is it the first time someone has said this about MelJay, but I always find it weird when people say certain ships are boring. The ships in question are usually just chill and communicative so there is no needless drama. This probably relates more to online fandoms’ obsession with romanticizing toxicity but I digress. It’s weird that the tension and political intrigue, something of which yall claim to love about the show overall, is in someway boring. The fact they are not constantly arguing or disregarding each other was nice cause I hate that those interactions are normalized in fandom in regard to romantic ships. If one of them had something to say then they would just say it and they would discuss it and move on like a normal couple. There is a lot to digest with them though as separate characters and as a couple. While Mel and Jayce are similar they obviously are not exactly alike. Mel it’s a lot more closed off and tempered and Jayce is more emotionally open and is hot headed. Both want to do good and have enough ambition to do so. It is their methods that differentiate them. Mel is more comfortable working behind the scenes whereas Jayce runs head first. These little differences offers up moments of character growth for both these characters. Mel started to become more aggressive (she was never docile) in her emotions and tactics where Jayce became more level headed.
The second one is that they are toxic. I’m going to keep this part short cause I already addressed this multiple times on this tumblr, so I’ll just bring up my highlights. Mel was not manipulating Jayce throughout their whole relationship. The only times where we see her manipulations is with Hoskel , but f him who cares about that man, and Jayce during progress day when they weren’t even together and Viktor wanted Jayce to do the same thing Mel was asking him to do. He didn’t even listen to her either. Mel and Jayce were genuinely attracted to one another so no she didn’t eventually fall for him she liked him from the first kiss. After a certain point we must recognize that Jayce was coming to Mel for advice and she gave it. Whether he listened to her or not. The investment line, an investment to Mel is not the same as investment to Jayce. An investment to Mel is like an action word. She invested in Hextech cause she genuinely believed in Jayce and Viktors ability to do good and she wanted to help similar to how a parent invest in their child, not because they think they’ll get something in return but because they love and believe in their kid. Jayce knows that, hence why he apologized for insinuating otherwise.
A lot of the so called toxicity the fandom claims they see is cause no one is meaningfully engaging with Mel or Jayce as characters but are just trying to get them to work in whatever ship they see fit.
Listen at the end of the day ship who you want but how you ship is gonna get your critiqued. For the love of anything that’s holy engage with the characters as their own separate entities. Your ships will thank you for it.
Ps I doubt this will be the last time some one will piss me off about Mel, Jayce or their relationship but I’m trying to keep this page more happy, for a lack of better words,so I’m trying not to rant to much. I got one more though. It’ll be way shorter though.

You are biased towards Stella too. So, what's your point. And I don't even hate Stella, believe it or not, even if she reminds me of the mother in law. The way she acts annoys me, but I am not going to crucify anyone who loves her. She is a great villan. I mostly get annoyed when people call her a unrealistic abuser, even though I know one personaly. And again, I do think Stella has her own issues. She was also forced to marry Stolas. I know all that. I know that this was not fair for Stella either. But, the differance is, Stella choose to abuse Stolas while Stolas choose to try to make it work.
You can critizise the writing all you want, but it doesn't change the way I see it and interpete it. I don't think she is a unrealistic character. I have seen my fair share of Karens in this world to know that some people have absolutley no shame and doesn't try to hide their abuse and nasty attitude. Of course certain abusers can be more like Valentino, where he can be nice even pleseant. But it's all a facade. While other people, like Stella, doesn't care to hide behind one. Because, let's face it, no one in the Goetia family would care that Stella abuses Stolas. But they would care if it was the other way around. Beacuse people doesn't care as much for male victims.
I know I talk a lot about antis. But I also wanted to show some of the anti-antis stuff I found. Here is the first one, enjoy 😊
Yep. This is exactly what would happen if these characters were real. Blitzø would not stand for the antis shit! 😤
#helluva boss stolas#helluva boss stella#helluva boss#fandom discourse#and cheating on a abusive spouse is not worse than abusing your husband and making fun of him every chance you get#it's not comparable at all#stella litterly tries to kill stolas ffs#is cheating worse than murder? it's wrong of course but it's not in the same ball park as attempted murder#and btw would you really defend stella the same way if she was a male and stolas female? i get the feeling you wouldn't 🤔

Do you want to start reading The High Republic books, but aren't sure where to start? This reading guide has you covered!
The High Republic era has given us so much material to explore and enjoy, but that also makes it a bit daunting knowing where to start and what order to follow.
This will serve as your, maybe not quite one-stop, but hopefully very comprehensive guide to getting into all things High Republic!
[Note: I say this isn't quite a "one-stop" reading guide, as I am certainly not the first person to have made such a list. The official Star Wars site has a reading guide (though it is out of order; so if you use it, pay close attention to the publication dates. Helpful, though, for seeing the covers of everything, if you're a more visual person). I personally have found the Wikipedia guide to be incredibly helpful. And (especially for the comics), please feel free to do some of your own research into other reading guides; I did my best to list everything, but there are more detailed comics reading guides out there.]
TL;DR: If you want the shortest answer possible of where to start, Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule. It was the very first book published in this project, and is the perfect entry point into The High Republic era.
For more details and the full reading guides, keep reading below the cut.
Let's get into it!
First things first, What is The High Republic?
The High Republic is a multimedia project, which includes books, comics, manga, and audiodramas (audiobooks but they have a full cast of voice actors + sound effects and music.) This era takes place hundreds of years before the prequel trilogy, during the golden age of the Jedi.
The High Republic has been published in three phases:
PHASE 1 (Light of the Jedi) takes place about 200 years before The Phantom Menace. [COMPLETE]
PHASE 2 (Quest of the Jedi) takes place roughly 150 years before that, so ~350 years before TPM. [COMPLETE]
PHASE 3 (Trials of the Jedi) goes back to the Phase 1 timeline, so ~200 years before TPM. [INCOMPLETE at time of posting. The final three novels and remaining comics are set to be published this year in 2025]
Do I need to read ALL the books, including YA and middle-grade?
Short answer: it depends! If 24 books is really daunting, or you just aren’t sure you’re going to have the time to dedicate to all of that, i would say no, you don’t have to read everything. You could read just the adult novels (which is the main-main storyline for everything), and be just fine!
However, if you are looking for a more well-rounded, full picture of this story, more characters to enjoy, or just want to read as much of this era as possible, than yes, i definitely recommend reading everything! the YA and middle-grade books have been just as well-written, and while you don’t need to read them to understand the main storyline, they fill some gaps in, introduce a lot of really fantastic characters, and make the story as a whole more full and fulfilling.
Now, where do I start?
I definitely recommend starting with Phase 1, Book 1: Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule.
This was the first book to be published, and is 1) a fantastic book, and 2) a great introduction to the galaxy at this time.
From there, I recommend going in order of the Phases, which would essentially be publishing order.
HOWEVER: this is not the only way to read the books; this is just my recommendation. I started with Light of the Jedi and it pulled me right into this era. But I know others have gone in timeline order (ie reading Phase 2 first, then Phase 1, then Phase 3) and really enjoyed that reading order as well.
(for more insight about starting with Phase 2, see this post.)
READING ORDERS
NOVELS ONLY READING ORDER
[*Though I did not include the dates, the following list has the books in publication order, and is the suggested reading order.]
READING OPTIONS
You for sure will want to read at least all the adult novels. At the very minimum you could read just the adult novels for Phase 1 & 3, and get a full story. I do really recommend reading the Phase 2 prequel novels, but reading is individual, so go with whatever reading amount and order will bring you the most enjoyment!
If you know you want to dedicate to more than just the adult books, you can add YA and Middle-Grade books into your reading order as it works best for you.
Level 0.5 - Phase 1 & 3 Adult Novels Only (TOTAL = 6 Books)
Level 1 – Adult Novels Only (TOTAL = 8 Books)
Level 2 – Adult Novels + YA Novels (TOTAL = 16 Books)
Level 3 – Adult Novels + YA Novels + Middle-Grade Novels (TOTAL = 24 Books)
PHASE 1
Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule (adult)
A Test of Courage by Justina Ireland (middle-grade)
Into the Dark by Claudia Gray (YA)
The Rising Storm by Cavan Scott (adult)
Race to Crashpoint Tower by Daniel José Older (MG)
Out of the Shadows by Justina Ireland (YA)
Mission to Disaster by Justina Ireland (MG)
The Fallen Star by Claudia Gray (adult)
Midnight Horizon by Daniel José Older (YA)
Phase 2
Path of Deceit by Justina Ireland & Tessa Gratton (YA)
Quest for the Hidden City by George Mann (MG)
Convergence by Zoraida Córdova (adult)
Quest for Planet X by Tessa Gratton (MG)
Cataclysm by Lydia Kang (adult)
Path of Vengeance by Cavan Scott (YA)
Phase 3
The Eye of Darkness by George Mann (adult)
Escape from Valo by Daniel José Older & Alyssa Wong (MG)
Defy the Storm by Justina Ireland & Tessa Gratton (YA)
Temptation of the Force by Tessa Gratton (adult)
Beware the Nameless by Zoraida Córdova (MG)
Tears of the Nameless by George Mann (YA)
Into the Light by Claudia Gray (YA) [Publishing April 1, 2025]
A Valiant Vow by Justina Ireland (MG) [Publishing May 6, 2025]
Trials of the Jedi by Charles Soule (adult) [Publishing June 17, 2025]
NOVELS + EVERYTHING ELSE READING ORDER
This list includes all novels, a short story volume, audiodramas, manga volumes, and comics.
If you have the time to dedicate to reading everything, the audiodramas are really well produced and the comics + mangas have been incredible. All these other publications typically follow characters that aren't in, or are featured very little, in the novels, so the stories remain fresh and new and aren't rehashing what's in the novels.
I know all of this additional material (especially the comics) can be a bit overwhelming. Here is a continuation of the reading levels above, based on what I will be easiest to add into your novels reading order:
Level 4 – Adult / YA / MG Novels + Audiodramas (TOTAL = Audio x3)
Level 5 – Adult / YA / MG Novels + Audiodramas + Manga (TOTAL = audio x3 + manga x6)
Level 6 – Adult / YA / MG Novels + Audiodramas + Manga + Comics (TOTAL = audio x3 + manga x6 + comic TPBs x27(ish))
[Note: for the comics, I divided them up based on trade paperback (TPB) volume, instead of individual issues, to keep things simpler. For the separate volumes, I placed them after the "wave" of books they coincide with. There are a few one-shot comics I didn't include, because most of the one-shots are included in the TPB volumes. So whether you buy the TPB or check it out from the library, those one-shots will likely be included and make it so you don't have to track it down separately. (and if you've got a library card, the Libby app has all the High Republic comics!)]
[Note #2: Star Wars: The High Republic and Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures are the main storyline comics that have run through every phase. To distinguish which Phase they are part of, the year of the first comic in that Phase's run has been included (Phase 1 = 2021 / Phase 2 = 2022 / Phase 3 = 2023). This does not mean all comics in that run have been published in that years, just the first one.]

A Test of Courage

A Light in the Darkness
Master List
Characters: Jensen x Reader (girlfriend)
Warnings: Mention of death, sadness, grief, fluff
A/N: Wrote this quickly for my sweet friend @jackles010378. I am so sorry about your friend. I do hope this helps some. Sending lots of love and hugs.
No disrespect to Jensen or his family, this is a work of fiction. Written fast and not edited well. Do not take it or say it’s your work.
Minors DNI 18+
The key rattled in the lock, a familiar sound that usually brought a smile to my face. Tonight, though, the click echoed hollowly in the otherwise silent apartment. I was curled on the sofa, enveloped in the darkness, tears silently streaming down my face. I hadn't bothered turning on the light. What was the point? The world felt dim enough already.
"Hey, baby, I'm home!" Jensen's voice called out, the usual cheer in his tone. It faltered as he stepped into the living room. "Whoa… what's wrong?"
He rushed to my side, his face etched with concern. The soft glow from the hallway illuminated his features, and I could see the worry in his eyes. He knelt beside me, gently taking my hand. "Hey, talk to me. What happened?"
I tried to speak, but only a choked sob escaped. I shook my head, unable to articulate the pain that was tearing me apart.
"It's okay," he murmured, his voice soothing. He pulled me into his arms, holding me tight, kissing my head softly. "Just breathe. Whatever it is, we'll get through it."
Finally, between gasping breaths and hiccuping sobs, I managed to get the words out. "Sarah… she's gone. She… she died this morning."
Jensen’s embrace tightened. I felt the shift in his posture, the intake of his breath. He knew Sarah. Everyone did. She was a ray of sunshine, always laughing, always there. A wave of fresh tears washed over me as I relived the moment I’d received the phone call, the moment my world had tilted on its axis.
"Oh, baby," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. He held me closer, stroking my hair. "I'm so sorry. Sarah… she was… she was amazing."
We sat in silence for a long time, the only sound was my muffled cries. Jensen didn't try to fill the quiet with platitudes or empty reassurances. He simply held me, his presence a comforting anchor in the storm raging inside me.
The next two weeks were a blur. Jensen was my rock. He took time off work, clearing his schedule to be by my side. He handled everything – from grocery shopping to fielding concerned calls from friends and family. He made sure I ate, even when I had no appetite. He listened patiently as I recounted stories about Sarah, both happy and mundane, his own eyes often glistening with unshed tears. Rambling on and on about how she was the reason I got the job I loved so dearly, how she quickly became more than my mentor, but like a sister to me.
He didn't try to fix me, he just loved me. He sat with me in my grief, sharing his own memories of Sarah. The first memory of her meeting him and her threatening to cut off vital parts if he ever hurt me, making me laugh amidst the tears. He reminded me that it was okay to grieve, okay to feel the pain.
The day of the funeral arrived, a gray and somber affair. Jensen stood beside me, his hand firmly clasped in mine. His presence was a source of strength, a silent promise that I wasn't alone. As I looked out at the sea of faces, all touched by Sarah's light, I felt a pang of gratitude for Jensen. He wasn't just my boyfriend; he was my best friend, my confidant, the one person who understood my pain and loved me through it. And in that moment, amidst the sorrow, I knew that with him by my side, I could face anything.

I’m fine with posts about my Blorbo getting ignored. It happens. We all know that. It’s disappointing, but you get inspired, start plotting, maybe even start writing yourself, lose motivation, and stop. It’s normal. It happens to all of us. Not a big deal.
But. BUT. BUUUUT. What drives me fucking insane is when some beautiful creative once-in-a-lifetime hand crafted prompt gets derailed into the generic stereotypical tropes that this crossover fandom constantly falls back on. I know that happens to you a lot, how do you deal with it?
In truth, when you sign up for creating content that you allow anyone to interact with, it’s just a part of the gig. It happens a lot, I may not enjoy it but others do and a community of people writing and having fun is what I strive to create.
My main ways to divert posts are either:
1.) Leave it be and let folks do their thing. The point of prompts is to let anyone add their thoughts, it doesn’t matter your personal feelings on a trope or headcanon.
2.) Simply stop interacting with that reply chain. I used to reblog absolutely every reply I got but now I only reblog the ones I enjoy. It has helped my mental health greatly. Additionally, if you don’t reblog responses to your posts, go and do that. It makes people more likely to see the responses you like if they already follow your blog for your writing and you’ll have a higher likelihood of that prompt gaining more replies.
3.) Put in the tags (#not ____ AU/trope/headcanon). I’ve done it a few times before with Ghost King AU’s I believe, mainly because I think that avoiding that trope for that particular post would make people flex their creativity more and write something they wouldn’t even have thought of if not given that limitation. This will sometimes work. Some folks reblog the post without the tag and the trope is posted anyways. People also might see the tag and think you’re being picky and rude and avoid the post entirely.
4.) Complain. I don’t really recommend doing this because people will Not Be Pleased but I am 100% guilty of doing this more than once. I have been pretty vocal on making my opinions clear on: Danny and Bruce’s relationship could also be something other than paternal, the automatic adoptions tropes, Ghost King AU’s, OP Danny, and not consuming some form of DC media is nigh impossible and actively avoiding it prevents you from learning about new characters and giving you new interests and ideas to spread and influence the fandom. This is the second least effective action to do. The first being saying nothing. Venting might be a good way to express frustration but let’s be honest, no one wants to listen to or read someone complaining for a few hundred words when they could be consuming a positive take on something they enjoy. For example: this post might get like 50 notes maybe max. It’s not a topic people like to read of and it’s critical on the things they like so they probably won’t interact with it.
5.) Add back onto your own post or another persons post with the idea of how you thought the post should have gone! If you don’t like the angle other folks are going at it, write your own thoughts on the prompt. A few solid paragraphs of ~500 words are what I have seen work the best in influencing and changing the direction of replies to a post. This is the best course of action to have people write another direction in tropes you enjoy and ideas you view are fresh and new. It might not be people’s favorite response to hear, but if you want a story to go a particular way, you have to write it yourself and hope the audience receives it well and picks up what you’re putting down.
6.) Write something similar again and hope a different audience receives the post and interprets it differently. Add a different spin on the concept and maybe add the (no ____) tag if you really really want something different.
I hope these tips help! Main takeaways if you don’t want to read everything: Complaining solves nothing and action solves everything. If you don’t like the way a post is going, write it to the way you want it to be.

There's no "calling out" in analysis imho- people just interpret things different and implying some kind of morality is involved (that some interpretations = moral, okay, while others aren't) always feel a little pushy and chronically online to me. However I understand the point being made here and here's my take...
The reason no one is applying the same logic to Rupphire is probably multifaceted and I'm not the end all be all, but the reason *I* don't is because not only is the power imbalance just... somewhat less of a thing according to worldbuilding, it's less emphasized narratively. rubies are apparently made for the gems they protect becuz of how ruby reacts to seeing sapphire ("as my sole duty and purpose, i will protect you with my life!") in the movie, but they are not objectified the way a pearl is and if you havent seen the movie its even less obvious. pearls have default settings and can be customized... they are at the veeeryy bottom of the hierachy and diamonds at the veeeeryy top, making rose and pearls difference in power a little more obvious and intense than ruby and sapphires.
significantly less time is spent on ruby's feelings of inadequacy even though it's briefly examined- we get one or two scenes, im thinking specifically "the answer" and "gem heist," and in both of these examples sapphire is SHOWN onscreen to immediately communicate disapproval and assure ruby she's equal. in someone entirely new:
"well what about you?"
"what about me?"
"well *you're* here too.. we're here, together."
and she places her hand on ruby's. in "gem heist" ruby stammers that shes disposable and sapphire's like "what!?" and in jail break, when ruby says "who cares?" sapphire retorts "i do!". there's more on screen evidence here sapphire and ruby feel equal and sapphire actively solicits belonging, equality, etc. from ruby. sapphire obviously onscreen kinda often tbh communicates love, adoration, respect for ruby etc, just think of their wedding ep! we dont see that from pearlrose. im not saying that it wasnt there but the audience isnt shown it.
we get a LOT of scenes and lyrics about pearl's objectification by homeworld and her feelings of inferiority.
"Everything I ever did, I did for her. Now she's gone, but I'm still here." - pearl
"Because pearls aren't for this! They're for standing around, and looking nice, and holding your stuff for you."- peridot
"But it's true! No matter how hard I try to be strong like you... I'm just a Pearl. I'm useless on my own. I need someone to tell me what to do." - pearl
"Who am I now in this world without her? Petty and dull with the nerve to doubt her." - pearl
"Well, you know Rose.... She always did what she wanted" - pearl
these lines are incomparible to many of ruby's lines and rose isnt there onscreen to dispute her claims of inferiority/helplessness like sapphire is there to dispute ruby. whether she even would or not is probably intentionally left to interpretation, serving to obfuscate rose's supposed good character.
also: sapphire never utilizes her position of power over ruby to force ruby into silence about one of the most traumatizing events of her life. not saying this is smth she even could do, but either way she doesnt do it.
anyway this is why i think the conversation is different. their relationships are presented differently becuz well.. the two relationships *are* different.
You know if people talked about Ruby and Sapphire’s relationship the way they talked about Rose and Pearl’s I’d imagine for at least some it’d highlight how infantilizing it is towards Pearl and how it demonizes Rose for basically no reason.
Like, nobody in the SU fandom would ever think “Ruby only loved Sapphire because she was programmed to be loyal to her.”
If anyone said that they’d be called out and rightfully so. But that’s like a common talking point for a lot of the people who try to undermine Rose and Pearl’s relationship.
Why is ok to say this about them?
