Well, now... isn't this something...

How many of you Turtle-fans were around in the heyday of individual fanpages (around the late 90s to early 00s)? When people would host their own sites on places like Geocities and Angelfire?

I don't know how many of you are nostalgic for that sort of thing, but I frequently miss being able to go to sites like that to read fanfics and look at fanart and such. And I had just such a bout of nostalgia today, so I decided to go and look at the state of Angelfire now, where I once ran my own TMNT site.

I mean, hell... the whole reason I am able to do html markups is because I had to learn how to do it in order to format my stuff on Angelfire (the simple editor was a bit too plain for my liking).

Apparently, they stopped offering free websites to new registrants in the 2010s. But the to new registrants part got me wondering. So I dug into my old email, found my old Angelfire account, requested a password change, and got in to the web shell... and apparently, since I made my webpage back in the late 90s, I have been grandfathered in, and am still able to edit the page for free.

Now, when I tell you this is exciting for me, I mean it. I know there is no chance of pages like that ever becoming the norm again, but, as a curiosity, it is just plain awesome to know that if I wanted to I could jump right back in and update a site that hasn't been updated in 21 years!

And the mere fact that it is still up and running is... frankly, amazing. Most of the pages that I linked to from there are long gone now. There are popups on the page, of course, but if you're on Firefox and have a blocker, then it isn't an issue.

So, I wonder... what if I did update it now, over two decades later? What if I made a new front page (with a link to the old site), then linked my current internet goings-on to it (meaning my Tumblr, my AO3, etc.)? What if I used it to archive my TMNT fanfics and, some time in the future, to have a page dedicated to my 70s AU? What would you all think of that?

If for no other reason than the nostalgia factor...

2003: mikey for sure. he’s the biggest fanboy going, he’d 100% be writing silvery sentry fanfic and showing it to donnie to proof-read. he’s a livejournal kid <3

2012: LEO!! leo absolutely has a fan account dedicated to his space heroes edits and fanfic. raph does little drawings to accompany them for him :3 he does little one shots to tumblr

rise: i feel like they’d all dabble in fanfic but donnie definitely is one of those big fanfic creators that is very popular among fandoms. his brothers don’t know it and he intends on keeping it that way. also he’s the type of writer where all his works are incomplete and he keeps starting new fics to write (am i donnie? maybe)

mutant mayhem: donnie again. bro got that autistic swag that tells me he’s written the most gut wrenching aot fanfic you have ever seen in your life. he’s the “600k words, 100k hits, 2k comments, 1.5k kudos chapter by chapter, hurt/no comfort tag” kinda fanfic writer

My Top 5 Favorite TMNT 2012 Ships

5) Mikey x Renet

I feel we as a fandom has come to an unanimous agreement that all the canon romances/couples given to us in the 2012 series are bad/toxic/poorly written/inc3st/etc with THEM being the only exception (I'll talk about that ship soon), however I think Renetangelo is the other exception.

They’re certainly not perfect with their first problem being Mikey kinda “cheating” on Renet with Shinigami (they weren’t together or officially dating so it’s not cheating, but it still felt wrong that it was never acknowledged that Mikey was pretty much a skirt chaser, crushing on two girls at once), but I still really love their dynamic and relationship. Mikey and Renet are undoubtedly cute together, just two silly goofballs having a fun time and enjoying the other’s company with the occasional flirting and kiss on the cheek (which btw SO CUTE). Renetangelo is that couple that I feel works great both romantically and platonically. If you told me they’re best friends, I’d believe it, if you told me they’re a couple, I’d also believe it. That's how well they work off each other. I'm okay with them being a couple or just being friends.

Season 5 also practically confirms they’re together on two occasions with Mikey saying him and Renet are in a long distance relationship in the When Worlds Collide special, and Renet hinting during the Halloween arc that she and Mikey have some kind of future together.

Overall, I really like Renetangelo and I love seeing these two together. From Mikey's puppy love expressions when he sees her to their overall personalities clashing so well together. This ship is very underrated and needs more love.

4) Slash x Alopex

Yes, this is a ship that exist and I take FULL CREDIT FOR THE CREATION OF THIS COUPLE! I AM THE REASON THIS SHIP IS ALIVE AND SAILING! YOU ARE WELCOME!!

Slash x Alopex (or what I like to call them Slaopex) is my rarepair of the 2012 series and I’m so happy that I’m slowly getting more and more people one board with it. It started off as just a random silly idea of mine, like "What if Slash got a gf?" and then I thought "Well, who could I ship him with?" and then my brain went "What if Slash and Alopex got together? That would be funny". I laughed at the idea, but the more I thought of it, the more I started to like it. I began coming up with headcanons and a story of their relationship, and the more I did that, the more I fell in love with this concept and the potential of this couple. So much that it placed 4th in my top 5!

I fell so in love with them I even ended up writing a short fanfic of how I headcanon they would first meet and the beginning of their blooming romance (you can read it HERE). But in short, Slash runs into Alopex during a late night patrol and helps her beat up some crooks who were attacking her. The two get to talking, sharing a tender moment before parting ways, with Alopex now being the only thing on Slash's mind <3

I also reference this ship a few times in my fanfic Courting a Salamandrian. Consider it a continuation of that little oneshot.

3) Leo x Casey

While everyone else was shipping Jonatello, I was shipping Caseynardo! I was never a fan of Jonatello, I don't hate it, just couldn't get on board nor understand the hype around it, but then one day I stumbled across fanart of Leo x Casey and I thought "Huh... these two actually look cute together!" and quickly sunk into the rabbit hole. Looking up every little bit of fanart, fanfics and edits I could find.

Liking this ship this much for it to be ranked 3rd in my Top 5 favorite TMNT 2012 ships says a lot. This ship really grew on me very quickly, so much so that I wrote a fanfiction on them! I wrote a Caseynardo fanfic before writing a Renetangelo one (you can read it HERE), which is funny cause I've been shipping Renetangelo since the show was airing, and I didn't start liking Caseynardo till long after the show ended! That says a lot about how much these boy effected me! LOL

My whole HC for this ship is that they bonding a lot in season 3 at the farmhouse which led to a mutual romantic attraction. Eventually they secretly date without telling anyone but due to the circumstances and problems going on in Leo’s life, he was unable to keep the relationship going. They agree to just be friends, which Casey promising to wait for him. It’s basically the “right person, wrong time” trope. But I like to headcanon that by season 5, Leo and Casey finally get together officially and made their relationship known to everyone else. The only one not surprised was Raphael who knew about those two since day one, cause he was stuck being their third wheel/wingman XD

2) Karai x Shinigami

I will NEVER forgive Nickelodeon for be too cowardly to make this happen. They'd rather ship inc3st and force Shini to be straight than give us our goth kunoichi lesbians. For shame, Nickelodeon... For shame...

Not to mention that one of the writers of the show, Peter Di Cicco, shipped them! Calling them his "OTP" and referring to Shini as "Karai's girlfriend", and even pitching an alternate ending to the series where Splinter and Shredder make up but the only thing they fight over now is who gets to walk Karai down the aisle during her wedding to Shinigami XD

The moment I saw Shinigami, I instantly thought "Oh that's a lesbian and she and Karai are a thing". I really love their dynamic, their friendship and the potential they have in being a cute couple of childhood friends to lovers. You can see how much they care about each other. The fury in Shini's voice when she confronts Super Shredder, "I will destroy you, Monster! For everything you have done to Karai!". Shini is supportive of Karai and is always the one down to start chaos with you. Makes me wish we could've learned more about these two and their history. I like to think they've known each other since they were little, being childhood friends while training and growing up in The Foot Clan.

My personal headcanon is that Shinigami has had a crush on Karai since they were young, like preteens, and is so loyal to her and willing to help Karai not just because she is her best friend but also because she loves her. However, she is scared to tell Karai how she really feels because she's worried she won't reciprocate and it'll ruin their long time friendship. Luckily, Mikey is there for support!

1) Raphael x Mona Lisa

What have I not already said about RaMona? If you follow me then you know full well that these two are my life. I’ve written multiple fanfics based on them on AO3 (LINK HERE) and have done a few analysis posts about them as well here on Tumblr. They have consumed my life. I love them so much!

Overall, I believe they are the healthiest ship the series offered us, and the best one in canon. I know some complain that they were rushed and how they got together too quickly, but in truth I can understand why Raph and Mona got into a relationship as quickly as they did. They are both warriors with the mindset of "I might die tomorrow" so it makes sense they'd be open and honest about their feelings right from the start just in case something happens to either one of them in battle. You only live once, you know? And I like how open Raph is when it comes to his feelings for Mona. From the very start, the moment he realized he liked her, never once did he deny it. Even when his brothers and friends laughed or scolded him, Raph proudly admitted he likes her with no ounce of shame. Mikey even points out that Mona is "bigger, stronger and a better fighter" than Raph and him responding by saying "Exactly! What a woman..." The boy does not care that she will be the pants in their relationship. He loves that she's stronger than him, bigger than him, a better fighter than him. We even see how excited he gets when she suggests training with him someday. Not to mention how we also learn in the show that these two have written love letters to each other during the course of the season 4 space adventures. Their personailties clash so well together. Both being strong willed warriors who put their loved ones first. Both can be stubborn and jump to conclusions quickly. We even see that Mona can have a short temper much like Raph. Both are ready to kick some ass with anyone who talks shit (Raph defending Mona but then Mona defending herself *chef's kiss*)

It's not talked about often among the fandom/shippers, but the fact that Mona is as much in love with Raph as he is with her is what truly makes this ship great. While the other 2012 ships make it unclear (writing wise) if the love interest truly feels the exact same way towards her Turtle she's shipped with, but for Mona her feelings are obvious. She's the one who makes the first move during all of their kisses/nose nuzzles, she's the one to say "I love you" first" and do I have to remind y'all of the push up scene? XD

These two are obsessed with one another. You can tell and see just how in love they are with one another. Even with only appearing in about 4-5 episodes, they truly left a major impact on shipping in this fandom. I feel it has come to a unanimous agreement that this ship is the best (canon) couple this show gave us. I love them, I love their relationship, I love what these two have done for the show and this fandom. They were able to bring back a classic ship from the 87 series and add so much more to them! I hope we get to see more of this couple in future generations. They certainly aren't a perfect couple, they got their flaws too, but overall they are truly the best couple in the 2012 series. <333

IF WISHES WERE FISHES Raph, Leo and Donnie are quadruplets whose baby brother died the day they were born. When Raphael brings home a new friend with wide blue eyes, a face full of freckles, and a brown belt in karate, the whole family gets a taste of what it might have been like had Michelangelo survived (I just love this story :])

WALK WITH OPEN HANDS Mikey’s head snaps up like a rubber band, so fast it hurts his neck. His father is standing in the doorway, whole and unharmed and strong. He tilts his head, taking in the probably dumb way Mikey is just standing there staring up at him (I'm pretty sure I still don't understand the ending. BUT FUCK, IT'S A WORK OF DAMN ART)

TRAVELING SO FAR TO GET THERE The sound of the apocalypse is a pop number from 1968 by The Foundations. And that’s only because Raphael’s little brother didn’t have the common courtesy to get a decent punk-rock song stuck in his head on the day they fell into this hellscape in the first place. He’s just saying, The Clash or The Offspring or even Fall Out Boy would make more sense, like, thematically. Instead he’s stuck listening to—. “WHY DO YOU BUILD ME UP! BUTTERCUP, BABY, JUST TO LET ME DOWN!". “Mikey,” he yells across the street, “I swear to GOD!” (Long description, and yes, The Foundations became my favorite artists for a week just because of this story)

PROBLEM CHILD Michelangelo has three overprotective big brothers, some questionable friends, a burgeoning need to make himself useful, and a lot of growing up to do. (MY GOSH YOU'RE GONNA LOVE THIS ONE)

I'VE BEEN AFRAID OF CHANGING It’s not fair. Donnie’s so smart. He’s tired and overworked and unhappy, but he’s smart. How can he get this one thing so wrong? How can he not know Mikey as well as he used to, like all of those years of being each other’s best friends and co-conspirators and secret-keepers from where they were relegated to the “B Team” aren’t as intrinsic and important and fundamental to him as they are to Mikey? How can he look at Mikey, right in the face, and not understand him at all?. Something breaks. (I hate myself for thinking the deleted scenes from 2007 were trash)

-And like these stories, she has thousands more, only these are my favorites and they have Mikey in them, but yes, it has Leo and Usagi, Raph and Casey, Donnie being... Donnie i guess

I'd say it's been probably... almost two months since I became an active participant in the TMNT 2003 fandom? And while there have been some ups and downs, overall I have been enjoying myself.

The biggest adjustment is the size. Most of my previous fandoms have been relatively niche JRPGs and while TMNT 2003 isn't the most popular animated TMNT iteration, the fanbase is still much, much larger than what I'm used to. More people talking, more fanart and fanfic being posted, and definitely a lot more, ah, discourse. Not that discourse wasn't a thing in my smaller fandoms, but I stumble across it quite a bit when browsing tags, and there's also a lot more variety to it as well. It really is weird what kind of stuff people will get their underwear up in a bunch about.

As far as interacting with other fans goes, I try to keep a relatively open mind when discussing the show and characters. I know some people can be very trigger happy with their block buttons, but I try not to block people simply because they disagree with me/I disagree with them. If I were to block someone on the grounds of their opinion being different from mine, it would be because they were being aggressive of how right they are while I'm completely wrong to the point of literal harassment over whatever is being discussed. Which, you know, fortunately I haven't had to do something like that yet. Most people have been very kind to me thus far, even when there were disagreements.

I am pretty happy with how things are turning out, even though it was a bit rough in the beginning when I didn't know anyone and felt like an outsider. A lot of people have expressed thanks for the fact I've been posting the official model sheets and concept art from the show, and as long as people still want them, I'll keep uploading them until I've run out because hey, I can personally confirm that the turtles are fucking hard to draw, and even the lowest quality reference can do wonders. This is also the fandom that inspired me to dabble in video editing and gif making; still not the best at either of them, but much like art, it's a learning process and the most important thing is that I'm having fun. My brain hasn't been this entertained learning new techniques for making things in a while, even if it can be frustrating at times. (Those damn shells are the worst to draw, man.)

So.... Yeah. All I can really say at this point is thank you to everyone for making this fanbase experience enjoyable so far. I'll probably be around for a while yet!

Gonna-Try-To-Stay-As-Spoiler-Free-As-I-Can Reaction to Mutant Mayhem (Very SLIGHT Spoilers)

THE SOUNDTRACK I am legitimately in love. May be the best movie soundtrack I've listened to in a long time.

Voice casting was on point. Who can't love Jackie Chan as Master Splinter?

This Master Splinter has THE BEST ears. Omg, sooooo cute.

A+ origin story retelling. "I was an old rat, so I became an older rat. You were young turtles, so you stayed baby turtle things. When you think about it, that really makes the most sense." lmaooooooooo

Absolutely dug all the references to previous TMNT iterations! I have a feeling I could watch this movie 10 times and still find new ones.

Saw the Laird Pizza reference. Not sure if there wasn't an Eastman reference or if I just missed it. (EDIT: Thanks, notes! I did miss it!)

This...may be my favorite April O'Neil, actually. She was amazing.

Super into female Leatherhead, actually.

Splinter, I'm with your sons. THAT IS DISGUSTING. BLECH. I'm happy for you, but BLECH.

The big bummer about the movie is that part of the reason I love TMNT is because there really is no romantic content and when there has been romantic implications, they have been quiet and subtle. This is a great franchise for aroaces like me. ...Except for this movie.

The movie is listed as comedy but OMG it should be listed as heartbreaking. So much sadness and angst throughout. cry.jpg I was looking for happy feels, dang it!

I really think this movie is gonna inspire a ton of fanfic, and I am PUMPED for that.

Donnie's a massive fanboy, and I am LIVING for it.

So yeah. I loved it. I tend to favor the more serious versions of TMNT, so this doesn't take my top slot, but it's a very solid showing. I absolutely adore how the kids in the audience reacted to it. TMNT is for them, and it was great to see them loving it. I saw regular, but now I'm kinda tempted to go back and see how it is in 3D. The animation was super cool, so I imagine 3D was actually pretty fun.

Fanfic Art Contest!

I am a Febuary baby. I don't do much for my birthday, maybe have a slice of cake and recieve one present. But I'm going to have fun this year, and I'm going to involve all of you guys with me 🎉

I'm having an art contest, something small and easy since this is my first time doing something like this. Your judge will be me (obviously!), but I'm not basing the winners on any certain criteria, I'm basing it on personal preference to the pieces shown to me.

I LOVE your blog it's so friendly and cool! Do you know any other TMNT art and or fanfiction blogs that are safe and friendly to interact with?(Im new to this)

I don't actually read much fanfiction for TMNT, I'm very picky about it, mostly because I have a hard time dealing with all angst all the time, or I want to write about the same stuff, which I want to write first before I read anyone else's about it.

All I've got for fanfic is @virgilisspidey, who writes Two Souls, a fic where 2012 Leo is a ghost that somehow got attached Two Souls (the game) style to Rise Leo. It's still ongoing but they're very active and answer questions all the time!! As for art ones, I think these people are friendly and cool! I don't know how much interaction they want?? But these are the names I can think of off the top of my head. (I am terrible with remembering names I'm so sorry if I've forgotten someone I definitely have) My friend @wondrous-art (Ibby) is the one who co-writes Mystic Forest and Season X with me!

@20s-turtle-posting does absolutely gorgeous art that I am incredibly jealous of and I want to stare at all day long. They also do SUPER cute little fics occasionally.

Same Raph AU (aka Two Sides of the Same Coin) Masterpost // Fanfic Link Summary: Rise Raph and 2012 Raph are the same person. He switches between bodies randomly whenever he sleeps (or gets knocked unconscious) -> Same Raph AU Crossover is a side idea (not canon to the main AU) where a typical Rise and 2012 crossover happens, but it’s with the same raph au. TMNT 2012 Leonardo as a VILLAIN

I know I am definitely going to raise hatred upon me 🤣

Anyways, do you guys remember the part in TMNT 2012 series where Leonardo cut Shredder's head off? Yeah. That scene...

Well... Let's just ignore the fact that season 5 'lacks' the PTSD part of the turtles?

My concern was Splinter knew he was dying. His time is ending.

Remember the part where he also said this to Leo...

"Leadership is not about being appreciated, it is about responsibility. It doesn't matter that the burden is heavy, It matters that you carry it."

I mean yeah sure. The context is leadership and Leo did volunteer to be the leader. But the part where Splinter just straight out let him suffer? What do I mean...

Remember the part where they were fighting the Kraang and he needs to stay behind ? Splinter did say this to him...

"With the world at stake, the only importance is you complete your mission... No matter what you have to sacrifice... Or who..."

Bruh... You are telling your son to sacrifice himself. YOUR SON.. YOUR BELOVED SON..

Anyways... Going back... Splinter knew he was dying and these are the things he said to Leo waaayy before. Leo, as a Splinter Jr. dutifully remembers it.

Then Splinter died... Leaving Leo to kill the Shredder. Why? Because Splinter knew that Leo can figure it out himself. Wow... Nice parenting skills Splinter. I mean, I wouldn't even be so shock if Leo turned into a villain.

Imagine the weight of the world on your shoulders and you Father tells you to kill yourself to save it. *Clap* *clap*

And you just killed the Shredder. Well there's a first time for everything I guess. Let's deal with the fact that I killed a living being.

And his brothers seems to be so oblivious with his suffering. Why won't he tell them? Oh yeah.. "what matters is that you carry them" Welp. No brothers to cry on to. Who will I cry to then? Oh ... That's right... I can't...

My point? TMNT 2012 Leonardo has every right to be a villain
