mobile guidelines under the cut.
guidelines.
i) independent, selective, low-activity multimuse blog featuring protagonist muses of various video game media ( ie.: otoges, etc ) as explored by Genie (29). activity may be sketchy to writer being a full-time worker. blog is not spoiler free and not safe for those under 18 years old.
ii) i prefer interactions to start with pre-established relationships to avoid the awkwardness of first meet threads ( and sometimes the abrupt end of them ). i am not great with plotting so i often prefer using memes to jumpstart interactions; however, i am not completely adverse to it! don't hesitate to come to me if you've got ideas you want to explore!
iii) i format my posts using small text and sometimes icons of varying sizes; though i will often forgo the use of icons due to lack of resources. please let me know if the font size is a problem, i'm more than happy to adjust it! don't let how i formate my posts affect how you do yours.
iv) i have a preference for longer threads so i may sometimes give you text walls ; however, you never have to match the length of my replies!
v) discord is available to mutuals as i sometimes miss direct messages through tumblr's in-built system. don't ask me to join servers, group settings make me anxious.
vi) all regular roleplay and online etiquette and courtesies apply to this blog and will be observed. do not bring drama or hate to my space. i welcome constructive criticism and appreciate if problematic issues are brought to my attention; however, i will not tolerate hate or drama.
vii) do communicate with me! do talk to me!

As a person who engages with gender primarily as a set of social roles that get constructed in cultures for reasons, I am very interested in RPing in fantasy settings that imagine restrictive gendered social roles but like. Not the way my culture does it. Different ways. Ways that also make it costly to disobey norms, but the norms are different.
The problem is that I run D&D for an all nonbinary group of people and don't want to impose a fun tax. And I play D&D with a group of people who is much less interested in this idea than I am as far as I can tell. And saying "hey I want to explore gender the way I relate to gender in a game, and the way I relate to gender is inherently about people telling you what they want you to be for reasons that might have made sense in aggregate or for the people in power but are restrictive and uncomfortable for the individuals they don't successfully mould into fitting them" is like. That's a really big ask! It's a huge imposition for players who aren't all in on the gender as culture that we explore and fit with or friction against. It's a big ask for a game master to develop an interesting discriminatory cultural schema and set of expectations and apply it to you in interesting ways.
It's just. One of the most interesting base things to worldbuild about for me. It's fascinating as a structural set of mechanisms and thinking about it when constructing societies and characters is interesting and I wish it weren't so... awkward to try to do something with it when you're the only person interested in engaging with that? How does your society construct gender, what are its reproductive norms, how does it decide who to claim is aberrant, how does it treat them, and what does that say about its values? How you generate people is one of the most core questions a society needs to answer. Demography matters. The pressures that exist depending on the reproductive needs of a pre-industrial society? They matter! How does your culture meet them? How does it enforce them? How does that turn into social roles that go far beyond what they originally needed to do?
I have made an active choice in developing Kaijja's homeland that most people have kids. Having kids makes you more credible. the imagery of pregnancy is culturally powerful. The deep history of that culture comes out of (my admittedly limited knowledge of) common interactions between adoption of agricultural resource hoarding behavior and gender relations, and there's all sorts of other stuff built on top. One of the few pieces of worldbuilding I did for their land empire neighbors was a stricter and dramatically more patriarchal than the setting in general set of gender norms. It's unlikely to come up in the campaign, but writing a bit of her ex-husband's relationship with culture as a... let's call it second generation immigrant, though it's more complicated than that, is in part about navigation of finding the things he wanted and didn't want about different communication and gender and family construction norms between the two cultures. I have had explicit conversations with my DM about what transgender people mean culturally in these cultures.
Roleplaying any of the expectations that come out of that is excruciatingly awkward. Because I realized the moment that one of the other PCs was nonbinary that their player did not sign up for my nonsense, and making a thing of the gender of her character without her having consented ahead of time was not a kind thing to do or a good idea. I got a little ways into that, decided it was uncomfortable and a horrible idea, and stopped. Sometimes we make character choices based on our own boundaries, and should.
Which is just to say that like. Even when given maximal control over things and only really doing stuff in my own domain, this is not something I really get to explore without really broad buy-in because no one not buying in will do gender norms to me, and I don't want to do them to anyone who's not bought in as either a PC or a GM.
But I am very interested in exploring what different gender norms and societal reproductive needs do to the people living under and in them. And I am interested in doing it through roleplay because running RPGs is my main writing medium and because feeling what it is like to be part of and subject to systems is interesting. But oh boy do I not have any idea how to have a useful conversation about that or find a group of people who are similarly interested in the kind of weird sociological approach to that that I'm interested in. I think in general I assume people are less interested in engaging with oppressive social systems in RPGs than I am. It's probably true. I don't KNOW it's true, but probably. I've read the literature about the fun tax. Most people I know are pretty queer. So I assume. I mean like, I should probably ask, I know my sibling is queer but also interested in gender as culture as a setting element. It happens. But it's a tremendously awkward ask to make if the answer is no.
So instead I'm writing a page long ramble and posting it on the internet where maybe someone or maybe no one will read it. Maybe I'm just talking. Maybe the people who exist on here will tell me if they have feelings one way or another without me having to directly ask. Maybe this is an expression of anxiety. Who am I kidding, this is definitely an expression of anxiety. But maybe that's all it is.

Agh, I get to talk to a woman who not only has my dream job, but also runs the internship that I'm interested in applying for today, and I'm SO NERVOUS. I'm worried she won't like, and/or that I'll be an awkward mess. I have a list of questions I want to ask her, but we all know I'm prone to rambling...
And ALSO today, for my Seminar class, we have to peer-edit each other's resumes, and I quite literally think I'm the person with the least experience in the class. All my hands-on experience is with domestic animals and happened when I was in middle school.
My only "job" that I've ever had was in high school, and I literally worked for my school. (I did get payed, but there was hardly even an application process.) PLUS it was not even remotely related to my current career goals. (and to be honest, neither was any of my limited volunteer, etc. experience back in middle school. That was back when I thought I still wanted to be a veterinarian.)
I really want this woman to like me, because she literally has my dream job and would also be my boss for a summer internship, but I'm so nervous, and I have a tendency to start off on the wrong foot. (I have frequently described myself as an over-excited large dog that comes barreling towards you barking, and you think it's going to attack you but really it just wants to say hi and lick your face and get pets. And that is quite accurate as to how I introduce myself to total strangers: with entirely too much enthusiasm and nonstop talking.)
OKAY, that's enough random personal information for you all. In other news, we're either FINALLY having our Big Roleplay Chat in our dnd session tonight, OR we're continuing to watch Dimension 20, Starstruck because Izzy insists that I watch it (and I am enjoying it!!), OR we're gonna watch Mad Max because my character's backstory group is basically based off Mad Max but I've never seen it, lmao.

GET TO KNOW THE WRITER
BOLD OR COLORIZE WHAT ALWAYS APPLIES TO YOU, ITALICIZE WHAT SOMETIMES APPLIES TO YOU, AND STRIKE THROUGH WHAT WILL NEVER APPLY TO YOU.
I RUN: lots of blogs || a few blogs || just this one Technically I have four... Riley answers when he does. Lugh is usually too busy being a sun god, and Quothe is an acquired taste {request only}
I FOLLOW BACK: muses in the same fandom || muses /blogs who interest me || fandomless muses || friends of mutuals || only members of a closed rp group || everyone
I AM ACTIVE: more days than not || as often as not || some days here and there || depending on my school schedule || rarely || I'm often lurking even if I seem inactive I work the middle days of the week as a librarian and try to put things in the queue for those days. I do my best to be available. Speed/activity =/= my interest in writing with you.
I LIKE TO WRITE THESE THEMES: fluff || angst || action || casual interactions || intense interactions ||crack || first meetings || platonic rp || shipping / romantic rp || threads || ask memes || prompts
Crack is often reserved as part of conversations in dms/discords. As a joke. Sometimes it will appear on the dash with my nearest and dearest. Besides that, I am open to literally just about anything/any time/any genre/anywhen. If Beth doesn't fit, I'll make a new version of her.
I PREFER ROLEPLAYS THAT ARE: one-liners || single-para threads || mutli para threads || novella || different lengths depending on my mood I am a wordy bitch and I have proven to myself that I cannot stfu.
FOR SHIPPING, I AM: {selectively } multiship || single ship || poly ship || no ship || plotted ships only || open to new ships || not looking for new ships || mostly or exclusively looking for high engagement ship partners || mostly or exclusively looking for casual or low engagement ship partners || not picky about ships || somewhat picky about ships || extremely picky about ships Who doesn't like shipping? That being said, I like them to develop organically. I do not know how the story will go when they meet. She will not instantly fall in love regardless of the other muse, and if the spark of connection isn't there, if she doesn't feel like she *knows* someone, then it is not happening. No matter how pretty your muse is or who they might be in the grand scheme. She might develop a squish, one sided. She might end up somewhere on the q-platonic scale. But mostly, she is a soft and heartbroken thing who doesn't want to be hurt any more.
I LIKE TO PLOT: everything || most interactions || some interactions || first interactions || nothing || threads || everything except memes and crack || ships || family relationships || history / backstory for our muses
TALK TO ME OUT OF CHARACTER: anytime || to plot || if you're confused or have questions in general || to remind me to reply || sparingly || only if it's really important
I GIVE ALTERNATIVE CONTACT METHODS (discord / social media) TO: friends || mutuals || anyone who asks || people i've spent a lot of time talking to already || ship partners || members of a certain rp group || no one

How do you go about creating a new character?
Literally anything can start it, from the simple concepts to jokes to memes to subversions of archetypes or the archetypes themselves.
CptTritium: There’s a couple of processes. Oftentimes I think of an archetype. Thorne, one of my favorites, was going to be the horny bard, but that ended up being a drow tiefling and she ended up being more nuanced than that. But Thorne was supposed to be the horny bard, but with discussion with other table members, it went from that to “What if he’s on a quest for love?” Very upbeat, very passionate, bright side of life, super happy all the time; he could find a redeeming quality in a Balrog. Golden retriever. Then Rose said, “why not make him an artificer”. That’s how he got his gun, Commitment, and a sniper rifle attachment, Long Distance Relationship, and then he has the undocumented feat where he can just, tuxedo-mask a rose out of nowhere. But for an NPC, that can be either super planned out, or like. Cutter, for example, exists because I have this scar on my neck. Scourge of the seas, he was mutinied against, did they not cut deep enough or did he crawl back out of hell. He was going to be a Halloween costume but I ended up making him the villain for Axia and charting out his wants and needs and motivations. Then there’s off-the-cuff NPCs. Most comes organically, others require thought, I listen to music and come up with ideas.
RosexKnight: I sometimes make my characters around the builds! Character creation just works like this, literally any prompt can spark a new character. I’ve made entire families for a character based on a bit, or for a ship, or literally any spark!
Jademod: A combination of things, really? If I get an adopt design, how do I build the character around this design; other times we design the characters ourselves from scratch. That’s a combination of what I think would be an interesting thing to do or not done before, like a take on a class or combination of classes. Now that the world’s getting more fleshed out I try to come up with things that tie to something we know in the world.
Ry: Monkey brain; throw things at a wall and see what sticks/people like. I wanna make a character that jives with everybody, and has some level of chemistry with the group. Like Ezraan was just made to be a scaredy-cat who just wants to help everybody and heal people; he’s the voice of fear, not the voice of reason, but I’ve had a lot of fun with playing him. It’s not that he won't do something, he will, he just won’t be happy about it. He is easily frightened, can see the odds are completely overwhelming but still chooses to go help everyone out. He could just cower in fear but something in him propels him forward.
Bluebrush09: I go through my horses and figure out which I feel like doing. Making new characters is very prone to whimsy. Like Quentin, it was 2am and he just, never left. Hecked off for a while, had to do stuff with Flick, who was out of spite because too many horny kobolds… I just make whatever works.
ZenAquaria: Like the other artists at the table, it varies! Like, for Vess, with her creation, I am obsessed with vampires and I wanted to do the take on the reluctant vampire, but also accepts what she is. With her, it was just a matter of bringing her from her original writing in a roleplay some 6 years ago to a more contemporary character build. She was already designed and fleshed out, I just applied the classes that fit her abilities the best, as opposed to someone like my homebrew gryphonfolk, the Toraion. Ash was crafted entirely out of a concept I nicked out of Blu’s server for a general premise based on Percival du Rolo from Critical Role with the whole warlock plague doctor aesthetic. So how can I take that premise and make it so that it works? It was a focus on acid and poison with necrotic but the limitations of warlock made a pure warlock difficult. Ended up going alchemist artificer with it, which has the abilities for the bonuses to those damage types, as well as feats like Metamagic Adept, for Transmute Spell, turning a fireball into an acidball. And artificer also for the firearm proficiency so I didn’t have to grab another feat for it.

Act 5 + Side Note: Class Myths
There’s a lot of symbolism within the Homestuck classpect system, however this also comes with its fair share of stereotypes within it. As such, I am here to provide my own opinion on such ideas that have formed in the community when I last saw it.
Note:
I couldn’t think of anything for aspects as they tend to be tied to their symbolism rather than tropes a person would follow. I will gladly try to explain my own views on aspects however, should I be asked.
Knowing:
The Visionary classes are often seen as all-knowing and wise characters, and while part of this is true, they can be idolized greatly.
Seers, mostly, are often taken in high regard due to their title, but these classes are essentially learning as much as they are guiding. Mages and Seers, to be frank, start off knowing Jack shit. They may know parts of their aspect, but their main problem is actually understanding and knowing where to apply their aspect.
Mages are also seen as a 'suffering class,' and while it's a trend in Homestuck. Their type of learning and knowing is through experience rather than study. Muelin and Sollux both experienced their aspects in different regards; Sollux hearing the voices of the dead, or doomed souls, and Muelin engaging in her aspect through shipping. Both have a personal connection with their aspects that Seers often lack. Likewise, Seers are more knowledgeable about their aspect compared to Mages.
Exploiting:
Knights and Pages are treated differently due to their paths.
Pages, as stated before, are infantilized due to their slow growth. This makes them appear weak or useless to their group despite the immense potential they have.
Knights are also treated like pillars of strength, leading others to disregard, or not take into account, the issues they may struggle with.
The Exploitation class is a powerful one, yet as the saying goes "With great power, comes great responsibility." This statement weighs on both exploitation classes who often require someone to see eye-to-eye with them and kinda chill with them.
Stealing:
For Stealers, I can't think off the top of my head for major major misconceptions. However, I do need to address something about thieves that I've seen once or twice in a few other analyses.
The concept of Thieves being selfish is a fair, yet wrong assumption to make. I consider Thieves to be more hoarders than anything. A Thief's own ability comes out of fear of a lack of their aspect, so to compensate, they fill themselves with it, taking it from others.
And, I also have to state, Alternatively, Rogues aren't all good either. At times, they, too, can be selfish. Starting out, Rogues will also hoard their aspect, but not through gathering like a thief, rather they suppress their aspect.
Roxy and Vriska both come to mind for each of these issues. Vriska dealt with a very unfortunate life in Alternia; her nothing being abusive as well as Vriska having the blood of countless trolls on her hands. This led her to be filled with a life of emptiness. Trying to fill that void, Vriska roleplayed as her idol, Mindfang, despite such roleplays containing far much more murder than her friends intended. She also had a cueball, giving her physical knowledge to create a sort of control in her life.
Roxy, likewise, was already filled with Void, drinking herself to oblivion. As such, she would be invisible to her session and friends. Roxy would later solve her issues alone, unknown to her friends until she broke her sobriety during the whole lollipop thing.
Overall, the Stealing class tends to be a hoarding class, just one takes from people to fill themselves, and the other suppresses themselves as a ‘sacrifice’ of sorts.
Manipulating:
Again, I’m kind of blanking out on issues to discuss, but there is a bit of an issue –not serious as other people tend to get this right– with Witches. I’ve seen Witches described as extremely powerful with their aspect, considering that they actively Manipulate it. However, this is mainly given with Jade’s own abilities, not taking into consideration with her dogteir abilities.
As such, a brief explanation: Witches aren’t that powerful, and Jade’s abilities were enhanced via Bec, the First Guardian of Earth. Thus, her usual abilities would include growing and shrinking per normal, but teleportation and such is solely due to Bec. Jade is still badass as fuck.
Witches are given more creative freedom with their aspect as an active Manipulation class. For example, a Witch of Heart would have powers that align more with changing a person’s character or drawing out fractures of a personality to their bidding. Yet, they would not physically change a person’s character (in my opinion, that would be rather OP and leaning towards Lord territory), rather take pieces and arrange them as they like.
Heirs, on the other hand, are often seen as complacent or detached from their aspect, yet this is mainly a John is an Heir of Breath and cannot represent every Heir issue. Breath players are likely to be detached in some sense, yet Heirs are more known for a calm attitude and general friendliness to their peers. They’re actually cool guys, and not a ‘Please-Think-I’m-Cool’ person like the Striders are (No hate, I love the Striders).
Destroying:
The Destructive classes have a bad reputation of being ‘villainous’ due to the negative connotation of destruction. However, destructive classes are just as important as other types of classes.
Imagine Gamzee, the Bard of Rage, the entire session was filled with a bunch of angry teens stressed out about the extinction of their race. Gamzee and a few others were often invisible or treated badly by their fellow players, and in Gamzee’s case, his own beliefs were challenged by the very beings they created. As an addict and cult-attendee, Gamzee was filled with Hopes and Miracles, but once he became disillusioned and sober, those crashed right in front of him leading him to question and jump to the next truth he could see. That being, the reality of the caste system in Alternia. Gamzee became aware of his power, and in his rage, used it as a way to vent out his struggles.
It is also important to mention that Gamzee was also influenced by Caliborn’s own rage and corruption via Lil’Cal which also ties in with his Bard class.
Despite this, Gamzee’s actions pathed a way to victory for his session, allowing Terezi and Vriska to work together (in a good timeline, that is) as well as creating a more unified bond for Karkat to work with. In a sense, he did create Hope via his destructive Rage.
The same sense goes for Princes as well who take their destruction in more literal senses.
Creating:
Creation classes suffer from the opposite issue to destructive classes; instead of being villainized, they are idolized due to their role.
In it's own form of irony, two of the Creators in Homestuck pose as an antagonist. Aranea is the cause for the death and future retcon of what was the alpha session, and Jane is her own asshole character (mainly talking about epilogues here). Creators aren't going to be all good saints; that's just bad writing. Rather, just like Aranea and Jane (I could also include Kanaya and Porrim), they will be equally selfish, and sometimes just be straight up bad people using their abilities to create overabundance.
Side Note: Female/Male Classes
In Homestuck, Calliope has stated that classes tend to sway between genders. Examples of these being Princes being majorly male and Sylphs being majorly female. However, an interesting take I’ve seen on this is that the Cherub species is inherently sexist, not by nature but by ignorance. As such, Calliope and Caliborn tend to take on ‘traditional’ views of genders. Therefore, I believe that classes, no matter which one, are all supposed to be gender neutral (Hussie has said this, but for all purposes, I will repeat it), and the titles are merely by name. Meenah has shown that a player can customize their godteir outfit to their liking, and I will take this as: your class is your class, and gender is fucking stupid.

OH RIGHT
Just want to like. Throw a bit of journal article this way.
This method of reference -- in which sexuality and dirtiness interlock -- extended beyond the overtly sexual into whole regions and social classes. Leonore Davidoff has shown that Victorian reform efforts equated the lower classes with the lower realms of the body: "Victorians visualized the 'Nether Regions' of society which, by their definition, were inhabited by the criminal classes, paupers, beggars, and work-shy as 'the stagnant pools of moral filth' comprised of the 'effluvia of our wretched cities.'"43 -Sigel, Lisa Z. “Name Your Pleasure: The Transformation of Sexual Language in Nineteenth-Century British Pornography.” Journal of the History of Sexuality 9, no. 4 (2000): 395–419. http://www.jstor.org/stable/3704910.
THIS.
This was what made me start thinking about how I can't just look up how Victorians think about things and decide it applies to the MTP protags.
I cannot imagine Liam agreeing with an OUNCE of that. Nor anyone else in his group. Holmes either.
It might be worth it to look into the source being quoted here...here's the citation from footnote 43:
43. Leonore Davidoff, "Class and Gender in Victorian England: The Diaries of Arthur J. Munby and Hannah Cullwick," Feminist Studies 5 (1979), 89. See also, Anne McClintock, Imperial Leather: Race, Gender and Sexuality in the Imperial Contest (New York: Routledge, 1995), 152-58.
I haven't even finished reading this article, so I haven't read that one. Maybe I go and find that it's not nearly as idk.... clear cut as this journal article makes it sound? I am not a feminist studies student or a historian.
But I'm also not doing a college paper. I tried to look up whether or not I could say "frig his ass" since apparently Victorians didn't think it was possible for another man to fuck an ass because apparently fuck was reserved for heterosexual things at that point and then ended up on an ENTIRE tangent (which admittedly has quoted enough Victorian-era porn that I have learned that anal intercourse was always buggery regardless of whether it was same sex or not... so I guess that's a thing. Interestingly... the context in which this came up was with a woman calling someone who couldn't bugger her like she'd asked a buggerer in roleplay? I think? The author was not doing much to provide context about that part of it, the concern was the crassness of the language compared to the language a hundred years before). ANYWAY my point is that this wasn't SUPPOSED to be something I was going to go down the rabbit hole on and I ABSOLUTELY am going to. But I've only so far got my foot in the door, and I'm just here to say that this is what broke me in terms of "oh they're Victorians they do what Victorians do" even though the WHOLE FUCKING POINT OF THE SHOW IS THAT THEY ARE FIGHTING AGAINST THAT SHIT THE VICTORIANS GOT BACKWARDS. HOW DID I MISS THAT?
And obviously it's possible they might still say... think human nether regions were dirty but that this comparison should not be applied to the lower classes... but at this point why would I do that? Why would I,
a porn author,
write that into my work when this VERY convenient thing has been dropped in my lap.
#moriarty the patriot#the sex one is still coming guys#this isn't even my like#analysis#this is just me spitting shit out

slimeslayers
It's been 4 years since I started DMing my current campaign with a group of good and close friends. The anniversary is few months past, as we hit it back sometime in October, but through circumstance of everyone being in their late 20s and early 30s at this point, the frequency of play is nowhere near what it was in the beginning. Just sharing some thoughts on what d&d and ttrpg's have meant to me and thoughts about my friends who put up with my stories.
Lately I've been really examining my relationship with tabletop roleplaying games and what they mean to me as a person. I've experienced some of my greatest moments of joy playing Dungeons and Dragons surrounded by friends, and have gotten closer to others just by virtue of having played a game that supports displaying raw performance and emotion, in a collaborative storytelling environment that not only welcomes someone being "extra" but actively encourages it.
I do not consider myself a "great" GM by any means, more than anyone I know this is a personal sense of hindrance, especially when comparing myself with people that I admire that get to do it for a paycheck, in an environment that necessitates a valuable performance. I know that every GM is different and all have different thoughts regarding their own personal style and what they glean from others.
The first time I GM'd a game, it was a quick little homebrew to give one of my closest friends a taste of what d&d was like,I GM'd for 2 people, my friend and his brother. It was really simple, nothing crazy, no huge amount of lore, just dice rolls and numbers to hit, with successes and failures and crazy amounts of flavor, a roleplaying game with numbers boiled down to its simplest formula. I definitely didn't do any game systems any justice, but I just wanted to show them what I loved about playing d&d with a group of friends. They both loved it, and so did I.
The next game I GM'd was for my little sister and her group of friends, I did maybe 3 or 4 sessions before it fell apart, through nobody's fault. They were all freshly graduated from high school and it was the summer before freshman year for them and I was on a break from school myself. I know from my sister that they still played d&d after that and she even had a short stint as a DM, asking me for advice.
Since then, I have run two campaigns, one for 9 months or so, maybe a little under a year and then one I've been running for nearly the past 4 years, since October of 2018?
The first fully homebrewed d&d 5e campaign I ran back in 2018, Symphony of Bones, was a HOT MESS. I let everyone make the characters they wanted without restriction and tailored the campaign with my limited experience to facilitate that, sometimes to great results, sometimes to middling ones. I have many regrets about the campaign, but I learned a hell of a lot of lessons I brought into my next one. I ultimately made the decision to end the campaign because 2 of us, myself and Shelby, my now partner, moved to Los Angeles and the time zone issue became flipped and more untenable. It was also during the most stressful moment of my life and I was using it for an escape but needed to prioritize other things in my life. I still hold the story and player characters in that world to high regard, and occasionally make reference to them, having my current campaign, which canonically takes place in an alternate universe, make reference to some of the lore established in Symphony of Bones.
The current campaign I am running, titled the Wishing Star, felt like a reset, taking in a lot of the lessons I'd learned from DMing, from listening to actual play podcasts like The Adventure Zone and an episode or two of Critical Role, and applying them to another homebrew campaign with the intent that I wanted to build this fun little narrative playground for my friends to play as their wacky little characters in. Still a pretty nascent DM at the beginning, I was hit hard by a lot of new lessons that come with character conflict, and having a very very loose story. Story threads I introduced YEARS ago are just now coming into play, which is both fun and has its fair share of problems, and I feel self conscious about how much focus I give on individual characters, and worry so much about robbing their agency via railroading, I have felt time and again that I have failed my players. It's also really difficult because sometimes we will have bits of time where we are consistent in playing biweekly or pushing back a week, but since COVID-19 began, the consistency went out the window. Narratively, it is hard to keep the momentum going when there are months between sessions, and new influences and learnings prop up in the interim, which can change the flow of the story and cause new things to happen in the story that others don’t see coming but I at the time think in all of my mania, “Wow this is such a fucking good idea.” It can create a sense of whiplash amongst my players, and even myself. To say some of my narrative pitfalls are self-inflicted would be placing some of the blame on my players, which I am not, but I have learned how important it is to keep that momentum going, so I have to figure out ways to keep my own personal bad narrative habits in check in the long term and that’s a problem in and of itself. Another pitfall I have to leap over is during long breaks, I lose interest in my own work and my own game and it takes a pretty gnarly mental toll on me to try and get back to it. To this day it is still a sense of defeat that I contend with, but try to push through. So I’m writing this with the intent of sharing what I love about my current campaign in order to show off that spark of creativity and the wild storytelling my group and I have all been a part of.
To make sense of my thoughts on the campaign and some of the lessons I've learned I should introduce my friends' characters, all individually badass in their own way.
Firstly, I wouldn't have started the campaign without being hyped up by my partner Shelby and her character Chymes, a Milo Thatch + Kimihiro Watanuki and now Victor Frankenstein-esque Necromantic Wizard character archetype. He's a little whiny intellectual who has a lot of complicated biology and is on an eternal journey to unpack his relationship with his mother/maker. In the past few years, he has evolved from this incessant magical worm of a person to being well on his way to becoming one of the most powerful wizards the Arcane world of Orgaus has ever seen. One time Chymes did drugs with one of the potential Big Bads of the main story and saw god. Also one time Chymes got shot in the side and blacked out and saw an even stronger god. There's so much to explore with Chymes, but his rich backstory has provided me with a ton of potential lore to work with, and some vital lessons to player character creation in the future. I've got so many plans for the Slimeslayers' resident wizard academic that will be coming to great fruition, it's going to be exciting for everyone. I could write pages about things Chymes has done, but I think one of the most important things he's done has been betraying the biggest rebel anti-monarchy/anti-fascist group in the world (consequences unintended), which resulted in like 70% of their active forces being eradicated. Fun stuff! He has a couple of potential boyfriends in the mix, two are burly and one is a twink and that's all I will say about that.
Then we have Ayla Strimstar, played by Zach, a Air Genasi Paladin, a character that might be slightly overpowered at level 12 with some homebrewed items, but not a warrior who hasn't suffered her fair share of struggles. Strong as she is, one time, pretty recently, she tried to fight an Adult White Dragon alone and got swatted out of the sky and almost died. I love Ayla, the way that Zach plays her with his whole heart makes her a character I have grown so fondly attached to, the achievements under her belt really setting her up to be a hero cemented in the lore of the world should I do another campaign in the same setting (which I plan to! I want to play in this world til I'm 40). It was pretty early on that she and Drina, the next character I will gush about, became champions of the Eadrhi Arena, besting such warriors as Hyacinth the Brainwashed Aasimar Swordsman, a Tabaxi Rogue named "Light of Steps," and Big Daddy Goblin, a leather daddy goblin. He died. Light of Steps hasn't shown up again, but I haven't ruled out her return. There was a point where Ayla became a Grim Reaper for a Day, and there were benefits (that have yet to be realized) and consequences that were immediately enacted. Recently, Ayla got the finishing blow on the Adult White Dragon, Ragastat. It was a good button for the Genasi-Celestial War arc that had been going on for nearly a couple of years at this point, and we are at the point where we have begun to resolve it and move on to the final major Kingdom in the story. I honestly can't wait to see what kind of adventures Ayla will go on, and can't wait to explore her epilogue and see the mark she leaves on the world for future campaigns.
Golondrina Passerine, or Drina for short, is such a fun character, played by our friend Kat. A Fallen Aasimar, they fell from the celestial realm, not once, but twice over the course of the story. First to rebel from their family, and then once more to escape and be reunited with their friends, chased by their cocky, prideful brother who became humbled by his descent in pursuit of Drina, falling as a result of his chase. Drina is a bard, flavored to be that of a heavy metal rocker, spikes, deathhawk, black armor, blood red guitar, haunted (or partnered with) by the King of Hell, Ozymandius D. Dio. To get to this point however, Drina had to die in the story, a sacrifice that was facilitated by a close comrade who had bled in the sands of the Eadrhi Arena alongside them, Ayla who as previously stated, was the Grim Reaper for a day. Drina then spent the next hundred years in Hell, working for Dio as a guard, rebuilding their strength until they were collected by the celestials, which led to Drina rebelling once again, but buffed with hellfire, falling once more to the world below to be reunited with their comrades and in doing so, lit the flames of a different conflict altogether in the heavens above. Also Drina fucked the vampire queen.
Benji Zerahad, played by the baby of the group, Jamie, is a multiclass Kalashtar Monk / Cleric, born out of a desire to be a peaceful and intelligent type of being, chasing after a few things, knowledge, his own place in the world, and at one point, a star-crossed lover, the Quori spirit Novatari, an ancient spirit of battle and leadership, an old queen from thousands of solar revolutions past. The funniest part about Benji is how somehow it was pretty firmly established that Benji was a virgin, and this has become a recurring joke throughout the campaign. One day we'll get to fade to black on Benji. Recently, Benji got his ass kicked when his home monastery was overrun by evil monks, but it was a vital turning point in his story. He was able to get reunited with his mothers and learned that he doesn't have to fall into tradition and continue to be the head of the Monastery, and can leave that to his sister. Now he's faced with the choices that the potential of freedom affords him.
Griselda, played by our very own Abby, is a changeling Rogue. She has been more behind the scenes, a later addition to the campaign after Shelby and Abby moved in together, I was more than happy to include her in our campaign. I have not given Gris enough focus, which is something I feel guilt about, but a lot of her story will come into play in the final kingdom, where her underground influence will play a huge role in how the Slimeslayers proceed. I'm truly excited to shine an overdue spotlight on her character, her two dogs, and her FMA Alphonse-ass Shield Guardian, adorably named "Baby." Gris runs a brothel in the Kingdom of Ersatz, with long roots and untold influence, and is quick to make proper acquaintances and allies through her natural charisma, with a few close shaves revealing her true nature. If I remember correctly, there may only be one or two people in the party that even know that Gris is a changeling at all.
Keeping track of an ongoing collaborative story has been a challenge for sure, and it has challenged me in so many ways creatively. This campaign has been by my side throughout the past few years where I've felt like I have almost fully given up on creative endeavors, to still being here when I wanted to create new characters and draw fun scenes, though I am still a little reticent to share. I will one day spam the discord channel with sketches I've done of everyone's characters and half finished illustrations I should just vomit out into that void. I'm sure this campaign will be there when I feel the drive to go full-hog into creating once more and I will happily and patiently wait, as the milestones we experience in the campaign feel like milestones we have in real life to me.
The past four years with my friends have been great, I wouldn't trade any of the d&d sessions I've had with them for anything. I look forward to the many more adventures we will share together and the stories we'll craft together. From making cocktails based on made-up drinks ("GTM") to simply hanging out and roleplaying a battle of the bands to resurrect the vampire queen, I am truly excited for the things we will do together, and the more lessons I’ll learn along the way. Future stories I want to tell with this gang of misfits include but aren’t limited to, Fantasy Hero University Student Adventures, and a multiplanar romp through space to restore peace to the Greater Realms. I’m also looking forward to playing an adventure DM’d by one of them.
Here’s to more adventures, Slimeslayers. Love y’all.

➤ BIOGRAPHY
Much like others of her kind, Cora was born to two parents who wanted nothing to do with her. The relationship between her angel father and human mother was brief but passionate and they were both surprised when she ended up pregnant. Cora’s father left immediately, not wanting to own up to having slept with a human and her mother couldn’t bear to look at Cora after she was born, a constant reminder of the man she had lost. She left her at the door of an orphanage that took her in, which is where Cora spent the next eleven years. She’d watch as every other child would get adopted while she stayed, overhearing the parents whispering about how she seemed ‘off’. Some of the kids started bullying her as she got older and eventually she started hurting them when they did, alarming the adults there. After a particularly nasty episode where she managed to scare all of them, she ran away. Weak and malnourished, an elven woman found her and brought her back to her camp. The other elves were enraged but the woman insisted on keeping her. She stayed with them for thirteen years, during which the other elves learned to tolerate her and eventually care for her but when humans ambushed the tribe and slaughtered more than half of the elves, including the woman who had taken her in, the remaining elves banned her from their premises. Grief-stricken as she had lost the only person she had ever been close to as well as her home, Cora sought out the humans that had slain her people. She made sure that they suffered before she finally gave in and killed them. She believed this to be the end of it but as a group of angels caught wind of her misdeeds, they started hunting her down. Superior in every way, they managed to catch her rather quickly but they did not wish to kill her but rather to make her suffer as punishment for what she had done to the humans and for being a Nephilim, an abomination. They handed her over to the family of one of the humans she had murdered and they kept her for six years during which they alternated between torturing her body and her mind. They kept her trapped in a pentagram to weaken her and it was pure luck that helped her escape one day. The woman who left was another person entirely than who she used to be, both her mind and body being broken. She was enraged at humans but mostly at herself and her human part, a part that had made her weak and vulnerable, a part that reminded her of her mother, a part that in every way was unwanted. Wanting to recreate herself, she abandoned her human name and took another name instead; Athena, the name of a deity fitting for someone part angel. She took the elven woman’s surname, Talmiel, as she had been the closest to a mother figure she’d had. Athena struggles with her human side daily but she fights to suppress it and everything it stands for. Her hate of this part of her manifests in her hate of humans, her hate of the angel species is something she keeps to herself as she tries to make that part of her more dominant. As she has never met another of her kind, she strongly hopes to find one at The Institute.

The Eternal Life Of Alcina aka 'Blood Is The Drug For Me'.
NOTE: The title of this story is a play on words of 'Love Is The Drug' by Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music (and also covered by Grace Jones), and also this story in general is inspired by Slave to Love which is also by Bryan Ferry.
~~~~~
The word ‘vampire’ is definitely one that many horror buffs will definitely know, since we all know what a vampire is. A vampire is a type of supernatural being that traditionally feeds on the blood of others or sometimes if they don’t drink blood they feed on energy/auras, and the vampire has had many different incarnations over the decades and some have been on the very alluring side. Well naturally since vampires and sexuality go hand in hand. Sometimes you might find there are people that find scary/monstrous things fascinating and Jack Thompson was one of them, Jack was Nathan’s old friend from England who was a natural born trickster and comedian with a love of macabre and gruesome things, his ultimate goal was to be an actor or makeup effects artist and to either make monsters or be made up as one.
Now this isn’t going to be one of those stories that some authors do that are TG stories with a bunch of pop-culture jokes that don’t make sense or don’t go together, you know…’oh look, there’s the entire cast of Riverdale and the cast of that one Disney Channel sitcom about wizards’ yeah apart from the fact that both shows are teen shows with supernatural beings in them, there’s nothing the two shows have in common. You won’t be seeing a bunch of random cars showing up with Cool Cat, because 1. That was already done in the first Cool Cat movie. 2. What do Transformers, Voltron, Power Rangers, Turbo Teen and Knight-Rider have to do with Cool Cat anyway apart from a hackneyed attempt at the author at doing a famous vehicle connection because ‘get it that happened in the movie’, even if it’s a joke story, the references have to go together and make sense. Besides, what happens in Cool Cat, STAYS in Cool Cat. And this story definitely makes a lot of sense. You see, Jack was one of those ‘monster kids’, and he owned a huge collection of vampire related items, his dream was to have vampire powers himself but he was deemed as crazy for having such dreams.
One evening he decided to pay a visit to Nathan’s apartment, especially since he had booked a special visit to that place for his latest project. He was part of a Resident Evil Village roleplay group and since his best friend had taken Donna while his brother chose to play Heisenberg, he decided to do a role he never would consider doing since he rarely ever did female roles that role was Dimitrescu. He had fallen in love with her and was obsessed with her, he was reluctant to at first but eventually accepted it. ‘Nathan, I have arrived.’ ‘So you’re ready for your special get into character assignment’ ‘Why yes, I am.’ ‘Have you thought about which village lord you want to be?’ ‘Yes, I want her.’ ‘Lady Dimitrescu?’ ‘Yes, Lady Alcina Dimitrescu. The deadly and alluring vampiress, I love vampires, i’m obsessed with vampires, I want to become her.’ ‘Naturally and how will you be doing this?’ ‘Well I was wondering if she could take over my body.’
“As in possess you?”
“Naturally…your possession stories are sexy, I want her to possess me.”
“You want to become Dimitrescu via possession? I can do that.”
If a TVTropes trope could ever be applied to Jack it would be ‘Vampire Vannabe’, because as mentioned his dream was to have vampire powers but everyone thought he was crazy for having such dreams, he had a very strong connection to Alcina, he even dreamed about her, which was something Nathan could relate to since he felt the same about Santanico Pandemonium and Elvira, and also had a lot of love for Alcina too. He knew of a book that could help, it was an ancient book/tome he kept on his bookshelf, this book had a book of game character summoning spells. His family dabbled in magic and he himself knew of many spells that he had been taught and of course he had a friend that had sorceress-like powers.
“You didn’t tell me you knew magic.”
“Everyone in my family does.”
“Lucky, the only one who can do magic in my family is my father.”
“Here we go…a Dimitrescu summoning spell.”
Nathan pointed out the instructions for the incantation and taught Jack how to utter them himself, Jack chanted the words as supernatural energy emitted from the room as a smokey spectral entity materialized, taking on the shape and form of Lady Dimitrescu herself as ‘she’ materialized before him. Jack couldn’t believe his eyes, his beloved ‘vamp queen’ was all there and he was ready for her to claim his body. ‘Woah, you definitely seem ready for her.’ ‘I’ll do anything for Alcina.’ ‘Aaaaw, you are the cutest Dimitrescu simp ever I must say.’
“Hello Jack.”
“Alcina…I can’t believe you’re here.”
“This is no dream, this is real and I am here to guide you. Now, listen to my voice.”
“I’ll do anything for you,, my lady.”
Alcina seductively blew a kiss in the direction of Jack, which sent him into a trance-like state as he couldn’t help but think of just how beautiful and powerful she was. She brought him over as she sang a song to him to increase the trance’s effect. ‘I still remember, I still love, I still remember, where I came from. Lover to lover, days in the sun. Moment by moment, past and done.’ Jack recognized the song as the song ‘Seduction Surrender’ which was performed by Grace Jones as the vampire character Katrina in the 1986 film ‘Vamp’.
“Alcina, you’re the best mistress ever.”
“I know, and I know that you like this.”
She seduced him with her powers and enticed him further, kissing him and explaining that she had been searching for someone who was worthy enough to take after her. Jack had been waiting for this moment all his life, and he knew that he was likely going to enjoy it. ‘You think i’m worthy enough of being like you?’ ‘Oh yes, i’ve been connecting to you through your dreams, and I know your dreams have lead to me.’ ‘Well yes…but everyone thinks i’m crazy for wanting to be a vampire.’ ‘I don’t think you’re crazy.’ ‘You don’t?’
“Oh no. I think you’ve got good taste. And I know you’ve been wanting this.”
“That’s so sweet of you.”
Alcina’s influence was making Jack fawn over her even more, he wanted not only to be with her but to be like her…he wanted the glamorous undead life of a vampire. ‘Would you take over my body, please?’ ‘Why most certainly.’ The glamorous vampiress turned into a translucent form as she entered Jack’s mouth and dove down his throat, possessing him in the process…within a couple of seconds he began to feel the effects of the possession take place. His skin slowly lost imperfections as it softened and smoothened but also became pale, the kind of pale skin that she had.
“And now it is beginning, I am becoming just like you.”
“Why yes, you are.”
In addition to this his arms were lengthening and slimming as they contorted, his hands shrank while a pair of elegant black gloves materialized on them…his fingernails lengthened and he found that he could extend his new fingernails even more and use them as if they were claws…’aaaw hell yes, i’ve always wanted to be able to do that!’. His torso and chest slimmed down quite a bit as his two round formations slowly developed on his chest, these formations blossomed out into what were commonly known as breasts, breasts that went up several sizes as his stomach slimmed and his legs lengthened, giving him a shapely build. ‘Oh yes, oh yes…I am already loving this!’
His hips flared out as his privates altered, giving him a thicc rear end as his feet shrank and his clothing slowly changed into an outfit that resembled Alcina’s own one complete with his shoes becoming the same as hers, he was already loving the process and knowing he was becoming exactly like her, this made everything better for him as his back arched and he slowly began to increase in height from his normal height of 5’8 to 9’6. His shoulders shrank inward while his hair turned from brown to jet black, his neckline lengthened while a white pearl necklace materialized around his neck. His eyebrows thinned while his cheekbones sharpened and eyelashes blossomed around his eyes, eyeliner and mascara were applied around his new eyes as his eyes in general turned a piercing shade of yellow.
He examined his body and also his face as his nose shrank and his lips plumped up, his features slowly feminizing and altering into a perfect copy of Alcina’s features while his canines extended to become akin to fangs, which of course he had always dreamed about. His voice softened and altered, becoming sultry and seductive and the perfect voice to match his appearance, that sultry Maggie Robertson voice that went with Alcina’s glamorous appearance, his personality and mind altered…becoming akin to Alcina’s own as he or ‘she’ in this case always felt like she had been who she was for all her life. She looked over at Nathan, now towering over him. 'Wow…how does it feel?' 'I actually feel really nice like this, thank you.'
"No problem, m'lady."
"Oh, you flatter me oh so well."
"You deserve all the flattery in the world, because you're truly worthy of it."
"Thank you ever so much."
Nathan blushed, he felt small in comparison to Alcina and he wished he could hug her and kiss her but he was 5'7 in contrast to her 9'6 stature. But he was devoted to them and she sang to him, entrancing him and allowing him to give himself to her, she told him that if he could bring Ethan here she'd be pleased, he used a dark spell to summon Ethan Winters, and Alicina weaved her dark powers on Ethan…hypnotizing him and turning him into a vampire in the process. 'I always enjoy seeing you in action.' 'Everyone does.' 'Naturally, everyone enjoys watching you.' 'And you love me too, don't you? Of course you do.'
"What do you have planned now?"
"Could you summon Jill here? I could use with a sister."
And thus with that Nathan used his powers to summon Jill Valentine, who was then hypnotized just like Ethan had been. Alcina then conditioned her further and transferred some of her vampire powers into her, making her grow taller as her breasts and hips swelled out as she gained a more MILF-like build, within a few seconds later Jill was a vampiric MILF and a sister to Alcina. As for what happened later, Alcina decided to go and greet some fans who devoted a special place as a shrine to her and she found some people to convert into fellow vampires. Truly the one and only Alcina Dimitrescu was going to enjoy herself in this world and with Nathan by her side she wouldn't have any difficulty either, it helped the horror fans were devoted to her as well.
The lesson for this story is perfectly simple but understandable, if you ever have a dream that is truly wild but you fear what other people would think about it, you can always share it with your friends, because if their own dreams are as wild as yours you can find some interesting ways to make them come true, and just because other people may not have the same beliefs as you doesn't mean you're crazy.
Wah ty... Joey pulling out the lanterns during his fight with Shadow Girl this episode was such a rough moment... As much as she probably shouldn't have helped Scott and Sausage grief his area, him pulling out the lanterns she had just returned to him in order to chase her off was extremely cruel considering that he was there for the task force. I think a lot of disabled and mentally ill folks empathize with the fear that they'll screw up and suddenly those close to them will turn the things they can't help against them and seeing Joey weaponize her sensitivity to light because he was upset with her was! Bad! I think there is a lot of tragedy in their friendship that was beyond their control with Joey going from Shulk to the Fairy Prince, but it doesn't lessen how horrible it must have been for Shadow Girl to see the one person she trusted suddenly start to demand she change and wield her struggles against her. As much as I hope she has a happier life as her new origin, I also hope she's not over the ways that everyone, from Scott and Sausage, to the Task Force, to Joey, wronged her as Shadow Girl. She deserves to demand that they make it right and she deserves to find a group of folks that will care for her unconditionally, even when her needs don't align with theirs. I'm... honestly not thrilled about the idea of her only getting to find happiness after death and rebirth without being a Shadow Crawler anymore bc I've seen that story before and it is often very ableist, but with the nature of the server and with hopes for cc!shubble's writing, I am cautiously hoping that the respawn won't be the end of things... All this to say i hope Shelby is still angry and doesn't forget and maybe next time someone gets the shadow crawler origin, she'll be able to make sure they don't have to feel as miserable as she did. She literally deserves the entire world and also has a right to kill whoever she wants This also isn't meant to be like. anti-Joey as either a content creator or a character, I think he is fantastic both in and out of character!!! It's just my thoughts on the story as a whole and that particular moment
yeah! well, ok i have thoughts:
- i said the whole ‘shubble stumbling onto a mental illness/disability vibe’ as a very LOOSE thing. i mean, its definitely something ppl can relate to and vibe with as a feeling but we should also probably step back and realize that its. Not the purpose of the story cc!shubble is telling. like thats a cool connection to make, but cc!shubble Not living up to that expectation isn’t bad or ‘feeding’ into abelist narratives. At that point, you’d be putting the expectation that because WE see a story this way, that the creator needs to adjust their narrative thusly.
which, yeah, isnt great. she didnt make it as a neurodivergent/mi/disability story, she stumbled onto the right path by accident. its minecraft roleplay and it makes sense that she’s vibin with that story and can take it wherever she’d like. Your frustrations with an abelist narrative stem from people who KNOWINGLY make mentally ill/disabled characters and then kill them off/cure them/etc and spread the idea that ppl cant live happily with themselves. Which is definitely an issue- however. you’re uh. not gonna find the answer for it in a mcrp.
thats not to say i dont sympathize! id also love for like. single crumb of good representation in media and also. yeah i think it was intentional for the other characters to treat her Badly to set her up for a sort of comeback so— we’re all definitely empathizing with her as a character. who knows where the story is gonna go tho, im kinda hoping for an unholy trio reunion tbh.
tl;dr— c!Shubble has a relatable narrative and connections, however she (cc!shubble) IS NOT making a story with the intention to represent these themes and expecting her to withhold to standards that dont Apply here will only lead to disappointment.
anyway yes uh. got off track there but. Yeah! these past few episodes have been Brutal w the betrayals and shit. totally get why c!joey was pissed hoWEVER…. i would kill for shadow girl…. beloved…
and Wow these past few episodes have been heartwrenching. definitely FELT that as someone whos Needed accommodations in the past only to be made fun of for needing them— oof.
#tw abelism discussion#alsmp spoilers#spoilers#sorry i focused a little heavy on like. meta stuff there#but i feel resposnible for bringing up the connection to tumblr so#i feel like if it got out of hand; itd be my fault#i just want it to be clear that whatever cc!shubble does has no bearing on like. abelism as a whole#bc shes not making a disability narrative— im warping her narrative through projection#so its unfair if anyones gonna b like. ‘this is abelist writing!’ when shes not even doing that in the first place#not that Thats what youre saying anon but i am. anxious and i tend to ramble#i do agree tho! i really do hope shadow girl gets some form of like. self acceptance in her next origin#not conforming or changing to another sunshine girl but that shes. like good as she is. she doesnt need to change#but! worse comes to worse i can bother gulfie into writing a happy ending :)))#asks#long post
